MTV Turning Catfish Into A Reality Show

Relatively Media is developing a reality show for MTV based on the film Catfish. The documentary follows a photographer who falls in love with a woman he meets on Facebook but eventually finds out she isn’t exactly who she claimed to be. The reality show will likely take a similar look at the subject.

According to Variety, MTV’s reality series, which is still in the early stages of development, will likely focus on people who intentionally “misidentify themselves” online and the repercussions that follow.

I liked Catfish. It touches on a subject that’s been fairly relevant since the internet went mainstream and there’s definitely an interesting story told throughout the film. With that said, the documentary had me wondering if those who questioned its authenticity may be on to something. Everything comes together a little too well. The filmmakers say it's 100% real. Regardless, I’m even more skeptical of an MTV reality show take on the subject but it’s really too early to tell. We’ll have to wait and see what MTV plans to do with the concept.
