Earlier this month, Perfect Couples lead Kyle Bornheimer signed on for a new Fox pilot entitled Council Of Dads. While not uncommon, putting your name in the ring for another program while your current one airs is almost tantamount to admitting you’ve lost all confidence in the initial vehicle being picked up for another season. Turns out that was the right decision, as NBC has decided to pull the remaining episodes of Perfect Couples and replace them with a new offering from a more established star.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, former Mad About You star Paul Reiser’s new self-titled comedy is ready to make its debut, and it’ll take the aforementioned timeslot on Thursdays at 8:30 EST starting on April 14th. The Paul Reiser Show sees the beloved comedian playing a fictionalized version of himself where he begrudgingly accepts family life and starts hanging out with random men forced upon him by either his wife or his children. I guess you could think of it like I Love You, Man without a clear goal in sight.

It’s been nearly ten years since Mad About You ended, but during its run, the NBC show regularly averaged between ten and fifteen million viewers. There’s no telling whether Reiser still commands that much of a following, but one would assume it wouldn’t be overly difficult to top the departing Perfect Couples.
