Joining NBC at some point in the 2012-2013 season is a comedy series that stars Dane Cook and Jeffrey Tambor. We have some clips and a synopsis for the series, which comes from Stephen Falk (Weeds) and takes place at a radio station.
NBC doesn't have Next Caller on their fall lineup for the 2012-2013 season so it looks like we may be waiting until midseason for this one. It stars Dane Cook as a foulmouthed satellite radio DJ who doesn't want to share the spotlight with his new co-host Stella (Collette Wolfe). Playing their boss is Jeffrey Tambor.
Below is the cast photo and NBC's full synopsis for the series.
What happens when a foulmouthed satellite radio DJ – played by the multi-platinum selling artist and outrageously charming Dane Cook ("My Best Friend's Girl") – is forced to share the mic with a chipper NPR feminist? It's anyone's call in this sharp new comedy from producer Stephen Falk ("Weeds") and Emmy-winning director Marc Buckland ("Grimm," "My Name is Earl").
And the clips below give us a glimpse of Cook's character and his new sidekick, who is clearly very determined not to be shut out of her new job…
Seeing Tambor on a new comedy so soon after the cancellation of the short-lived but promising Bent is bittersweet. On one hand, it's great to see him back in another show so soon. On the other hand, given how NBC treated Bent and the fact that this series is likely aimed for midseason, possibly with a similarly late launch, it's hard to feel optimistic about midseason comedies at NBC right now. Still, this looks like it could be a fun workplace, if you like Dane Cook.
