Oprah In Primetime With The First Family
The leader of the free world is taking time out of their busy schedule for a prime-time interview on December 13. And she's got the President and his wife on tap. That's right, the queen of daytime, Oprah Winfrey, will be making the move to prime-time when ABC premieres Christmas at the White House: An Oprah Primetime Special. See, it's all right there in the title.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The hour-long program promises a tour of the White House and a conversation with the First Couple, as well as Oprah's first in-depth interview with Barack Obama since his inauguration. We'll also get to see how the staff of the White House prepares it for the holiday season.
With the announcement having come recently that Oprah will be wrapping her daytime show in 2010 after 25 years on the air, she couldn't have picked a better time for such a high-profile interview special. I have a feeling we'll be able to look forward to more of these; perhaps one near the launch of her new cable network OWN? Or at the least, she's bound to have interview specials on the network.
It'll be interesting to see if she gets into deeper issues with the President, or offers more of a puff piece during the holiday season. There's a valid argument for either angle, and I think we all know Oprah's more than capable of either approach. And I think the President knows she may be the only person in America with more power and influence than he has.
Christmas at the White House: An Oprah Primetime Special is a one-hour special airing on ABC, December 13 at 10 PM ET.
