OWN is looking to take on a more predominate role in the cable market. Oprah Winfrey is expanding role now that her contract with CBS is up, and talk show guru Rosie O’ Donnell is set to start on the network with her own daytime talk show in the fall. Now, OWN has taken steps toward even more original planning, with Don’t Tell The Bride, a remake of the UK series with the same name.

Don’t Tell The Bride is a series about giving away dream weddings. Each episode will feature a different couple planning a wedding. The couple will be given enough money for the wedding, with the catch only the groom and the best man will be allowed to plan. With the many bride shows saturating the market, including Say Yes To The Dress and Bridezillas, it is nice to see a show featuring the groom for a change. Don’t Tell The Bride will be a joint venture between OWN and Discovery Communications, and will be produced by Shed Media U.S.

The joint venture shows relations are on task between Discovery Communications and OWN after a rocky period where the CEO handling OWN, Christine Norman, was replaced by Peter Leguori. According to Variety, Don’t Tell The Bride is the fifth program to be picked up since Monday. Starting a network and gaining new viewers is a tough business, and with The Oprah Winfrey Show only ending this week, it’s good to see OWN is staying on task.
