Pharrell Williams To Mentor On Rihanna's Styled To Rock
When Style initially nabbed pop singer Rihanna for a brand new reality competition series called Styled to Rock, I was impressed that such a busy celebrity would commit to a TV program. Then, months passed and we didnít hear much about the remake of the British series and I wondered if, somewhere along the line, the series stopped moving forward. As it turns out, Styled to Rock will air on cable, and musician and fashion guru Pharrell Williams has joined as a fashion mentor on the series.
Pharrellís a pretty appealing choice for the new series. Not only does the man dress in an outside-the-box manner, heís also created numerous fashion lines like Billionaire Boys Club, Billionaire Girls Club, and Bee Line. Additionally, heís collaborated with other big names in the fashion business on accessories, including Louis Vuitton. While heís mostly still a big name because of his music, thatís still a lengthy list of credentials, and Williams should be a perfect fit for a mentoring gig on Styled to Rock.
According to THR, the program will follow 12 up-and-coming designers as they work their scissor hands off in order to create designs for A-list clientale. The ultimate winner of the series will have the opportunity to dress celebrities in the industry. Rihanna is executive producing the endeavor, alongside Nick Emmerson, Pam Healey, Dan Peirson, James Lassiter, Sarah Weidman, and Merah Chung. While Project Runway occasionally puts together outfits for celebrities, I canít think of a fashion-based competition show that is as celebrity-geared as Styled to Rock, and because of this, the show may be able to build a major audience for itself on the network (obviously, having Rihanna on board also helps).
Styled to Rock is expected to premiere later in 2013. Ten episodes of the series have been slated for Season 1.
