With the clock counting down to Election Day, President Obama is making another late-night television appearance. This Wednesday he will be sitting down to chat with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. That will add up to a total of five appearances for Obama on The Tonight Show, three of them since taking office almost four years ago.

Obama’s late-night TV appearances are in sharp contrast to his competition for the Oval Office. Romney hasn’t done Leno or any other late-night shows since taking on the role of Presidential hopeful. His wife, Ann, did appear on Leno, however last month. Obama has been active in his television appearances recently as EW points out, showing up on The Late Show with David Letterman not long ago and sitting down the Jon Stewart on The Daily Show last week. The difference in television appearances on late-night talk shows between the two candidates is a marked one. The last Republican to run against Obama, John McCain, is a regular guest on The Daily Show, so it can’t just be Stewart’s left-leaning opinions keeping Romney away.

Both candidates will be going into overdrive in these last two weeks before the big day, but clearly that means different things for each camp. It’s likely the Leno appearance this week will be the last talk show for Obama before the polls open, so it will be interesting to hear what he has to say with the election down to the wire. A light-hearted chat with Leno or a last-minute appeal to voters? Tune in Wednesday, October 24th at 11:30 EST on NBC to find out.
