Roseanne Barr is determined to make a successful comeback to TV comedy. For the second year in a row the comedienne is working on a comedy project that would provide her with a starring vehicle, and once again she’s looking to NBC to make it happen.
Last pilot season Barr’s Downwardly Mobile went to pilot at NBC, but ultimately didn’t make it to series. This season she is back at it, developing another comedy project for the peacock network, according to Deadline. She signed a deal just today to develop the project, which she will executive produce in addition to starring in, along with Steven Greener. Greener worked with Barr on another of her TV projects, the Lifetime reality series Roseanne’s Nuts. That series aired for a single season before being cancelled due to low ratings.
Rosanne hasn’t has a regular starring role on a TV series since her eponymous hit Roseanne which ran from 1988 through 1997. She did do a couple of years on a self-titled talk show, but since then has done only a few guest roles and of course the failed Lifetime reality series. Hopefully for fans of Roseanne’s comedy she’ll be more successful this time.
So early in development there is nothing in the way of information as to what direction Barr might take for the new project. While we wait, you can catch Roseanne in the final season of The Office, where she is set to appear in a three-episode arc playing a talent agent by the name of Carla Fern.
