While things might not have worked out for Roseanne Barr’s unscripted Lifetime series, we may not have seen the last of the actress on the small screen. The former Roseanne star has a new scripted comedy in the works, and NBC has taken an interest in it, which means we could be seeing Barr back on network television in the near future.
According to Deadline, NBC has purchased a scripted comedy created by Barr and her boyfriend John Argent, as well as Roseanne’s Eric Gilliland. The pilot is called Downwardly Mobile, and much like Roseanne, it centers on a lower-middle class family, except in this case, rather than living in a house, the family lives in a motor home community. Without My Name is Earl on the air, NBC certainly has a vacancy for such a sitcom setting. The peacock gave the comedy a script commitment plus penalty.
This news comes following last month’s announcement that Lifetime cancelled Barr’s reality series Roseanne’s Nuts after just one season. Hopefully Downwardly Mobile will have better luck, should the pilot make it to air.
