There are numerous dramatic takes set to tell the story of Osama bin Laden's demise. Headed into theaters this December is Zero Dark Thirty, a film that chronicles the hunt for the al-Qaeda terrorist leader. And now National Geographic has set the date for their own full-length feature film Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden.
The film is directed by John Stockwell and produced for theatrical release by the Academy Award-winning producer Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker). National Geographic Channel has the exclusive rights to the world premiere of the film, and that's where you'll see it when it premieres Sunday, November 4. The film stars a number of recognizable names, including Cam Gigandet, Anson Mount, Freddy Rodriquez, Xzibit, Kathleen Robertson, Eddie Kay Thomas and Kenneth Miller.
When the rumored whereabouts of Osama bin Laden are revealed, the CIA readies a team of seasoned U.S. Navy SEALs for the mission of a lifetime. Despite inconclusive evidence that bin Laden is inside the compound, and ignoring the possible ramifications of an unannounced attack on Pakistani soil, the Pentagon orders the attack. The SEAL Team bands together to complete their mission of justice.
It sounds like the focus of this film will be on the actual raid, whereas Zero Dark Thirty focuses on the decade-long hunt for the man, so it seems like there's definitely room for both movies. Given his involvement in the 9/11 attacks and the founder of al-Qaeda, it's understandable that people would be interested in knowing and understanding the details of Bin Laden's demise and the efforts made by the soldiers and military leaders responsible for finding him.
Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden premieres Sunday, November 4 on NGC. It will be available to Netflix subscribers in the U.S. the following day.
