Sean Hayes To Guest Star On Smash For Season 2

It looks like Smash will be having itself a mini-Will & Grace reunion. The musical drama series returns next winter for its second season, and with it comes a guest appearance by Sean Hayes, who will reunite with his Will & Grace co-star Debra Messing for a multi-episode arc. And it sounds like a funny role.

Smash is a musical drama series starring Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston and Katharine McPhee and follows a group of aspiring stars, writers and producers who are looking to make it big on Broadway. NBC announced the new today, stating that Sean Hayes will join the series in its second season for a multi-episode guest spot, playing "Terrence Falls, a comedic television and film star who is making his Broadway debut in the musical “Liaisons,” based on the novel “Les Liaisons Dangereuses.” Due to a series of comic circumstances, he becomes a major thorn in the side for Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) and other characters."

Anyone who antagonizes Ivy, whether intentionally or unintentionally, scores points in my book. "A series of comic circumstances" sounds like something Hayes can handle, given his background in comedy. And this "Liaisons" musical certainly sounds interesting.

In addition to recently starring in the Three Stooges film, Hayes hasn't drifted far from his old Will & Grace stomping grounds, especial in recent years. Known for playing Jack McFarland in the NBC comedy series, Hayes' recent credits include an episode of Parks & Recreation, and he's also an executive producer for NBC's Grimm. In addition to plenty of experience working with NBC series, Hayes also has a bit of Broadway experience, having starred in the 2010 Broadway revival of Promises, Promises with Kristin Chenoweth.

Smash will return to NBC for Season 2 Midseason 2013.
