Snooki And JWoww's Jersey Shore Spin-Off To Be Set In Jersey City

Late last month, we learned that Snooki and JWoww’s Jersey Shore spin-off hit a snag when the Hoboken mayor’s office denied their request to film there. Now it looks like they’ve found an alternative, which still keeps them in Jersey but also within commuting distance to New York City. Jersey City, here they come!

From the sound of it, the issue with filming in Hoboken was more about the geography of the city and issues with public safety concerns, as it’s not that big a city, relatively speaking, and the attention might cause crowds and traffic jams. There was also the issue of the show wanting to have permission to film in public locations at all hours, which would have violated a rule of the city’s prohibiting filming past 11:00 p.m. In other words, the city didn’t seem like the right set-up for the show, at least, from the perspective of the city.

The Daily News is reporting that MTV has permission to shoot the Jersey Shore spinoff reality series in Jersey City.

“My view is the more people that see anything about Jersey City and see what we have in Jersey, the better it is for Jersey City,” Mayor Jerramiah Healy told WNYW/Ch. 5’s John Huddy, who broke the story.

The show has permission to shoot for six weeks in a location near Grove and Mercer Streets. It’s apparently a two-story building that’s described as an old firehouse. That sounds more like something we’d see in The Real World rather than a spin-off for two people. Still, it should be interesting to see what they do with the location. And for those of us who can’t seem to help indulging in these kinds reality shows, it’ll also be interesting to see how Snooki and JWoww do with their own show.
