Just a couple of weeks ago I was watching Back to the Future II and thinking, this probably won’t be what things are like in five years. Somehow I think Spielberg might have a better vision of what’s to come for the world than Zemeckis did back in 1989. We’ll find out when his new project with Discovery airs.

It was announced today that Discovery Channel is teaming up with Steven Spielberg, DreamWorks Television and DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc on a miniseries called Future Earth. The aim of the miniseries, which hopes will be “epic,” is to examine what life on Earth will be like 25, 50 and 100 years from now. Using futurists, scholars and “great minds of today,” the series will bring their ideas of what might be ahead for mankind to the small screen. This includes health and medicine, technology, the environment, the military, economy and media.

"I am excited to be back in business with DreamWorks Animation and all the active imaginations and creative artists at the best animation company in the world today. Joining together with Discovery, we have an opportunity to bring exciting new experiences to take television audiences into the imagined future of planet Earth, said Steven Spielberg.

I have to say, it sounds interesting and with Spielberg on the project, we’re most likely in for a real treat here. I’m just hoping we won’t see any neon spandex outfits in this version of the future.
