Earlier today, we shared some news and a teaser for Alan Ball's upcoming Cinemax series Banshee. While we still have a couple of months to wait for that one to premiere, Cinemax has their next new series ready to go tomorrow night. Hunted follows a female spy who disappears after nearly getting killed and returns to work a year later, much to the surprise of her co-workers and secret boyfriend.
Produced for BBC One and Cinemax, Hunted comes from Frank Spitnitz and stars Melissa George as Sam Hunter, the mentioned operative who nearly died. You'll get a better sense of her situation in the description for the series premiere episode, which airs tomorrow night on Cinemax. Check that out below, along with the trailer...
Sam Hunter (Melissa George), an operative for the elite private intelligence and security firm Byzantium, is finishing a mission in Tangier when an attempt on her life leaves her critically injured. Not knowing who tried to kill her, she disappears to a remote location to recover, regroup and retrain. Returning to work unannounced nearly a year later, Sam surprises her co-workers, who are suspicious about her disappearance, especially Aidan Marsh (Adam Rayner), her secret lover. Her bosses, Rupert Keel (Stephen Dillane) and Deacon Crane (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), retain doubts about her, but need their best agent for an important new assignment. The team devises a plan to have Sam infiltrate a family headed by powerful millionaire Jack Turner (Patrick Malahide), a man with a criminal past whose ambitions are at odds with Byzantiumís secret client.
Sort of a Bourne/Alias thing happening here, with an attractive young spy in the lead. The question of how she was almost killed and who is responsible lingered in the air, and it seems likely that this mystery will be a part of the driving force behind the series, in addition to Sam's work as an operative. It looks exciting, and could be one more reason to consider giving Cinemax a chance for those who don't already subscribe.
Here's the poster for the series, which premieres Friday, October 19 at 10:00 p.m. ET on Cinemax.
