Storm Chasers Tim & Paul Samaras And Carl Young Killed In Oklahoma Tornado
Tornados in the midwest continue to take lives this summer. Among the recent casualties in Oklahoma was Storm Chasers star Tim Samaras. He and his son Paul Samaras, along with Carl Young, were among those killed on Friday while chasing a tornado in El Reno, Oklahoma.
CNN posted the unfortunate news, stating that the men were among at least nine people that state officials reported were killed on Friday night. From what the site reports, authorities say their storm-chasing vehicle was found at an intersection, "twisted almost beyond recognition." No additional details about the circumstances of their deaths were given.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Tim Samaras his son Paul and their colleague Carl Young,” the Discovery Channel said in a statement (via Deadline).
Storm Chasers aired for five seasons on Discovery Channel, and - as the title implies, it centered on several teams of storm chasers willing to brave the dangerous and often deadly tornadoes that tore through "Tornado Alley" in the central part of the U.S. The series debuted in 2007 and wrapped up with its fifth and final season at the end of 2011. A behind-the-scenes special closed out the show in December and the show was later cancelled by Discovery in 2012.
Discovery's planning on airing a documentary special on the tornado outbreak. Deadline says they're going to dedicate it to the Storm Chasers star with a card in their memory.
Our thoughts go out to their friends and family, and to all of those who've been affected by these storms.
