How To Create Funny TV Characters, According To Ricky Gervais
Ricky Gervais has had his fair share of funny characters over the years. From the iconic David Brent of BBC’s The Office to his latest title character of Netflix’s Derek, there’s always a certain quality to his characters that get us falling to the floor in laughter.
Ricky Gervais' Derek Gets Its First U.S. Trailer For Upcoming Netflix Debut
Gervais looks to be in proper form, going just slightly below-the-top in terms of comedy, while somehow remaining sympathetic and charming. I think a lot of what makes this possible is the doc-style that Gervais perfected with The Office.
Ricky Gervais' Derek Hitting Netflix In September
We’ve known for a while that Derek would head to Netflix after airing in the U.K.; however, we didn’t know when the move to Netflix would be happening. On Tuesday it was announced that all seven episodes of Derek are set to hit Netflix on September 12. The date and time is extremely precise. Derek will hit the subscription streaming service at 12:01 a.m. PST on that date.
Ricky Gervais Debuts First Trailer For Derek
Last spring, the pilot episode for Ricky Gervais’ somewhat controversial new comedy series, Derek, aired in the UK on Channel 4. Subsequently, the series was picked up to air in 2013 and now, Gervais himself has kindly tweeted out the first trailer for the series.
Netflix Picks Up Ricky Gervais' Derek To Begin Streaming In 2013
Ricky Gervais’ Derek is heading to Netflix. The show’s pilot was produced for British public access television, where it aired on April 12, 2012. A full series has been commissioned by Channel 4, and in the U.S., Derek, will be a Netflix exclusive.
Ricky Gervais Writing 6 More Episodes Of Derek, Shares Outtakes Of Karl Pilkington
Ricky Gervais' one-off special called Derek was well received by audiences so it should come as no surprise that the British comedian had some exiting news to share earlier today via twitter. The 'pilot' was always intended to open the door to more shows and not only has the comedian started writing an additional 6 episodes of Derek but he also shared this great clip of Karl breaking character. And I don't think Karl laughs. Ever. Seriously.
Derek Clips Showcase The New Channel 4 Pilot With Ricky Gervais And Karl Pilkington
All of comedian Ricky Gervais' television projects eventually make their way across the Atlantic. The Office came overseas before American television made the full on adaptation. Then his popular podcasts with the "little round headed buffoon that is Karl Pilkington" got picked up and animated before Karl became the Idiot Abroad. Gervais' new project, again with Pilkington, is called Derek and is scheduled to air in the U.K. soon but there's no word on when the one-off dramedy will come to North America. That doesn't mean you can't watch the new clips.
