Earlier today, NBC began picking up programming for next season’s schedule. The first programs to make the cut were the dramas Believe and Crisis, from J.J. Abrams and Rand Ravich, respectively, as well as Jason Katims’ About A Boy comedy. Now, NBC has signed on for two additional original comedies, Sean Saves the World and The Family Guide.
Harold Perrineau Joins J.K. Simmons In NBC Comedy Family Guide
NBC's single-camera comedy pilot Family Guide already has plenty of talent behind it, with Bent's DJ Nash writing and executive producing, David Schwimmer directing, and Jason Bateman executive producing. Among the cast is Parker Posey, J.K. Simmons and Eli Baker. And now we can add Harold Perrineau to the already-promising cast. The actor is reuniting with Oz co-star J.K. Simmons for a part in the comedy.

Sans the fact that it still doesn’t have a title, Up All Night executive producer DJ Nash’s pilot is coming along pretty nicely. Parker Posey, who has been enjoying a lengthy guest stint on The Good Wife this season, has taken a lead role in the series and today J.K. Simmons has been added to the roster, also in a starring role.

Among the numerous TV and film credits on J.K. Simmons' CV is a role in Starz' unfortunately short-lived comedy Party Down. Simmons will be reuniting Party Down's Adam Scott in another excellent TV comedy coming soon. The actor is set to appear in an episode of NBC's Parks and Recreation, where Scott plays Ben, the fiancé of leading lady Leslie Knope. And it just so happens that Simmons' role involves Ben.

Simmons has been hired to play the patriarch of the family in the new series.Between Simmons and Bornheimer, the show, about a young man who puts aside his own dreams to take over his dad’s handyman business, should be pretty funny. It is rather a good sign that Bornheimer and Simmons chose Mark Gordon’s particular pilot to work on next season.
