Low Winter Sun Canceled By AMC

AMC’s drama Low Winter Sun seemed like a good fit to air as a companion to the final set of Breaking Bad episodes this summer. Regardless, it was never a ratings-bringer, and on Friday the cable network officially announced it will not be bringing the drama back for a second season.

The Walking Dead Season 4 Sneak Peek Shows Someone Under Attack

Usually when you have to watch an ad before a video, it's something separate from the video itself, but in the case of AMC's preview for The Walking Dead, the advertisement was built right into the video, as AMC used the first thirty-seconds of their Walking Dead Season 4 preview to promote the currently airing Low Winter Sun. That appears to be AMC's online equivalent of showing the Walking Dead clip during the Low Winter Sun broadcast, in the hopes of luring the millions of Walking Dead fans out there over to one of their new series.

Breaking Bad Mid-Season Premiere Scores Big Ratings

While it's not exactly bringing in the massive numbers that The Walking Dead earned in its most recent season, Breaking Bad certainly has cause to celebrate what's undeniably a ratings win after last Sunday night's mid-season return.

Low Winter Sun Review: Mark Strong And Lennie James Bring Depth To AMC's New Drama

Low Winter Sun follows the murder of a cop and the subsequent cover up, set against the backdrop of a corrupt police unit where nobody trusts each other and no one is talking. The standard of a pilot doesn’t always say a lot about where a series might be going, but if this is what we have to expect from Low Winter Sun, the series will offer an escape unlike anything else television has to offer.

Low Winter Sun Poster Reveals A Cop And A Killer

There are a lot of cop dramas on television, but even the marketing for Low Winter Sun has shown AMC’s new program to be a little more outside-the-box than what audiences have come to expect from most crime dramas. Low Winter Sun will tell the tale of cops who must cover up the death of another cop after killing him. That drama will be central to the narrative and it shows in AMC’s new key art for Low Winter Sun, which focuses on Mark Strong’s character, Frank Agnew.

Low Winter Sun Preview Explains How To Cover Up A Murder

The first preview for AMC’s newest drama, Low Winter Sun, offers us a glimpse at the murder of a cop by other cops that will be central to the narrative. Mark Strong is strangely silent throughout most of the preview, letting another cop (played by Lennie James) allude to the reasons for the cop killing, as well as noting that the two need to watch each other’s backs.

Zero Dark Thirty's Mark Strong Will Star In Low Winter Sun On AMC

Last spring, AMC greenlighted a pilot for the remake of a British miniseries called Low Winter Sun. The project would follow a cop who commits the perfect murder when he gets away with killing another cop, but is eventually sucked into the city’s underworld after the event. Such a dark and dangerous premise seems perfect for a one-hour drama on AMC, and apparently the network believes so, too. AMC has picked up Low Winter Sun to series, signing on for 10 episodes of the show.

AMC Picks Up Two Drama Pilots, Including Adaptation Of British Mini-Series Low Winter Sun

AMC has ordered two scripted pilots at once today, a result of what the network likes to call its “bake-off” – a yearly event in which pilot scripts are showcased. It’s the first time they’ve ever ordered two pilots at the same time, a possible sign that they’ll be looking to increase their scripted programming even more in the future.
