Ever since Tony Lucca joined the cast of Season 2 of The Voice producers have made a big note about how the contestant, like judge Christina Aguilera, is a former Mouseketeer. He’s all grown up now, to the point Christina herself at first did not recognize him, and he seems in the game to win it. Well, as long as that pesky Mouseketeer star power does not get in the way.
After a pretty cool rendition of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes,” Christina took the first critique, blatantly stating while Lucca has Christina’s (and apparently Justin Timberlake’s support), she hopes his former gig won’t give him added star power, because she feels like he does not have the best vocals on the show. Ouch.
"Obviously we get a lot of support. You've got me and your old Mouseketeer buddies behind you. And Justin in particular. I hope this is really a contest about the voice. I think there are just better voices on the show, rather than a celebrity sway kind of thing."
Apparently, Timberlake does not totally agree, however, advocating for his buddy via Twitter on Monday.
“Tony Lucca @luccadoes performs LIVE tonight on #TheVoice Tune in and vote for my boy!!! #realtalent.”
You can check out Christina’s critique and see if it works for or against the contestant during tonight’s elimination episode, airing at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
The Voice airs on NBC Mondays at 8 p.m. ET and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
