Grimm has cast a new recurring role for Season 2, and he’s a familiar face to fans of True Blood. James Frain, known to pay cable viewers for his roles as Franklin on True Blood and Cromwell on The Tudors, as well as for his film work, has been cast in the creepy detective series for the upcoming season.

Frain, says Zap2it, will come on board Grimm in a recurring guest role as Eric Renard, Captain Sean Renard’s brother, with whom he has something of a rocky relationship. He’ll arrive on the scene on the tails of what is described as “a very bad creature” and has Nick as the target of whatever plans he is cooking up. So it’s from one supernatural show to another for British actor Frain, who not so long ago played a vampire who develops an unnatural (even for a vampire) obsession with Tara and goes just a little crazy as a result on True Blood. He also guested on The Mentalist recently and has been up to some feature film work as well in his spare time. Prior to that he played Thomas Cromwell on the steamy cable adaptation of The Tudors

NBC gave Grimm, a crime procedural with a supernatural twist, an early renewal way back in March, so producers on the series have already had plenty of time to prepare for its return. Frain was way-creepy in a stalker sort of way while still managing to be a bit comical in his role on True Blood, and this part sounds like it’s right up his alley. The network is running the first season in re-runs on Monday nights at 10 pm if you need to catch up; you’ve got plenty of time before the new season hits your screen though.
