Veep is one of the best new comedies this season. Armando Iannucci's first foray into American television is a delightful political satire with super sharp writing and even sharper performances. Now six shows deep, the hilarious comedy is only getting better and being a mix of episodic and serialized storytelling, there is an element of tension added to the laughs with things coming to a head. A tiny, newborn baby head.
Okay, that sounds weird but last week's "Baseball" put Madam Vice President in the middle of a pregnancy scare and as lovely as creating a new life may be, it sure is a career killer for an unmarried woman in American politics. So what is the second most powerful person in the world to do? Try a little "Full Disclosure." Well, after calling up the baby-daddy and telling him it's not only time to do some ring shopping but that you've actually already been engaged for weeks. Congrats! Now, "Full Disclosure"...
Maybe the title of the episode isn't about Selina's (possible) pregnancy after-all? False positive? Of course, in Washington full disclosure rarely means 'full' and I'm sure the team is doing their best to keep the baby news under wraps even while having to come clean and publish all of these records. "Full Disclosure" was directed by Chris Morris, the man behind Four Lions, which only gets me even more excited for the second last episode of Veep. With just two shows remaining in the first season, it's a relief to know that the comedy has already been renewed for a second and this time running for ten, not just eight, episodes.
Veep airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on HBO. It stars Julia Louis Dreyfus, Matt Walsh, Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, Sufe Bradshaw, Tim Simons and Reid Scott. It was created by Armando Iannucci.
