Vikings Gets A March Premiere Date On History

published: 2012-12-19 12:31:40
Over the summer, History announced it was finally time to get into the scripted content game, assumedly after the success of the miniseries Hatfields & McCoys, which brought in particularly high ratings on the network. Now, the channel’s first attempt at original scripted content, Vikings, has finally been put together and given an official release date. If you’re interested in seeing History tell a tale of Vikings, you’ll be able to catch the new series beginning on March 3, 2013. The network has even put together an early preview to get fans excited about the new programming.

The preview for Vikings mostly takes a look at some gruff figures in the community and the awesome weaponry, but we do know a little more about the Norsemen Vikings will take a look at. The series will follow a leader and warrior named Ragnar Lothbrok, played by Travis Fimmel. Gabriel Byrne has also joined the cast as Earl Haraldson, and other Skarsgard brother, Gustaf, will play Ragnar’s buddy, Fioki. With their long hair, dirty bodies, and shaggy beards, it’s hard to tell which actor is which within the preview.

While the trailer doesn’t exactly focus on family and friendship, Vikings will actually look into the personal lives of Lothbrok’s tribe, as well as the group’s explorations across the ocean and, to get back to the weaponry, raids.

History’s Vikings premieres March 3, 2013 at 10 p.m. ET.
