Wanda Sykes' Herlarious Comedy Specials Headed To OWN
OWN is continuing to beef up its original programming this summer and has signed on comedian Wanda Sykes to help the network out. The actress and comedian has signed on for two comedy specials on the Oprah Winfrey Network, both of which are set to bow later this summer in July.
The two specials are rolling with the title Wanda Sykes Presents Herlarious and will air on July 13 and July 20 at 10 p.m. ET. Deadline is reporting that the two specials will actually be taped versions of a live show that will air from Harpo Studios in Chicago. Lest you think the specials will be all about Wanda, other female comedians are also schedule to appear, including OWN’s Kym Whitley, Tracey Ashley, Gloria Bigelow, Marina Franklin, Carmen Lynch, Andi Smith, and Dominique Witten. The hour-long programs will offer comedy shorts featuring each of the listed guests. Additionally, Sykes will executive produce the endeavor, along with Push It Productions.
Oprah has done pretty well with bringing some popular names to the channel in recent months. Earlier this year, she managed to coerce Tyler Perry to sign a deal with the network, and his two new programs, The Haves and Have Nots and Love Thy Neighbor, began airing last month. Sykes has been a pretty big name over the years as well, producing her own TV series for Fox and popping up in shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and New Adventures of Old Christine, not to mention a slew of movies. With a little luck, Sykes’ two specials will do well on OWN’s network and will help Oprah’s channel to continue to improve the quality of its content, and thus, its ratings.
