Watch Jon Stewart's Touching Philip Seymour Hoffman Tribute
There are plenty of tributes being ushered out into the world in honor of Philip Seymour Hoffman. The recent (and if we’re being honest, devastating) loss of the esteemed actor came as a shocking blow to the entertainment community in addition to the world at large. So it’s no surprise that The Daily Show host Jon Stewart used his typical end-of-episode “Moment of Zen” to honor the late actor. In a beautiful and touching minute of film, the clip — featuring Hoffman discussing the merits of constantly giving 100 percent as an actor — displayed with simple yet poignant clarity the reasons for which we’re grateful for Hoffman and his committed style of acting.
“In a year filled with gut-punches, this weekend delivered one that we won’t soon recover from,” Stewart stated simply before a clip of Hoffman speaking at a Golden Globes press conference cuts in.
“If you get a chance to act in a room that somebody else has paid rent for, then you’re given a chance to practice your craft,” Hoffman stated. “And in that moment you should act as well as you can.”
Hoffman and Stewart have a history of conducting engaging and interesting interviews together — from politics to private moments to his company LAByrinth and everything in between — going all the way back to 2003. In ten years the men have theorized on many an interesting subject with a rapport like old friends. We’ve compiled the duo’s best interviews, below:
