Dark Skies (2013)

After starting out as the top movie on Friday, The Rock's action entry Snitch tapered off to settle for an overall second place this weekend behind The Identity Thief which returned to the number one spot for the second time in three weekends. With juts $13 million, Snitch marks Johnson's second lowest wide opening ever, behind the awkward Faster debut of $8 million back in 2010.

Coming off just a terrible, rotten week we are looking for a little bounce back around these parts. It won’t be easy as I went 0-4 last time with my predictions. The only thing that can get us back on track is a little Rock and some more haunted houses

If one watches the Dark Skies trailer for the first time, they might be inclined to think Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds and M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs somehow hooked up and had a film baby. The previews have done a decent job of laying down a spooky atmosphere, but instead of keeping the frights on tight lockdown, they throw them at viewers, hoping to get them in theaters to see a handful of other jump scares...

Writer/director Scott Charles Stewart has made a movie about the biblical apocalypse, a movie where priests battle against vampires, and now he's heading into the sci-fi genre with the alien thriller Dark Skies.

Written and directed by Scott Charles Stewart, Dark Skies centers on the Barretts, a family who is normal in every possible way…until they're not. Keri Russell and Josh Hamilton star as a Lacey and Daniel Barrett, who are forced to confront a mysterious and dangerous force that marks their son, terrorizes their house, and makes them both lose control.

Dark Skies is an upcoming supernatural thriller written and directed by Scott Stewart, whose feature credits include Priest and Legion, and produced by Blumhouse, the company famous for making widely released but cheap and high-quality horror films like the Paranormal Activities, Insidious and this summer's Sinister.
