Underworld 2: Evolution Synopsis
In Underworld: Evolution, the sequel to 2003's Underworld, latex loving vampire Selene (Kate Beckinsale) returns. She's still caught with her smurf-werewolf hybrid boyfriend Michael (Scott Speedman) in the middle of the war between Vampires and Werewolves.
It’s fun to mock Underworld. Pretentious film-assholes do it at every turn, looking down their nose at anything resembling “Goth” or the mere suggestion of heavy rock music. But Underworld is a well done, beautifully stylized film. It doesn’t deserve the snobby hate. It does however, deserve a kick in the groin for having a horrible ending.
The original film ends with Scott Speedman turning into a gigantic smurf. Actually, I think he looks more like a blue Lou Ferrigno than anything. Terrible idea and it’d be nice if the sequel would simply pretend that had never happened. Maybe kill Scott Speedman off right at the beginning, get his suckiness out of the way to turn the franchise over solely to Kate Beckinsale’s character Selene. Sadly, it looks like we’re in for an extended Speedman ride.
The sequel is Underworld: Evolution and it arrives with everyone on board, a full returning cast… even those whose characters who are supposed to be dead. I suspect they’ll appear in the form of a flash back, which is fine by me since it allows them to bring back the scene stealing greatness of Bill Nighy. If Underworld2 can minimize the smurf and maximize the Kate Beckinsale vampire hotness, this is a sequel that stands a good chance of improving on the first.
