Sweeney Todd Slices Into April

Because of the quantity of movies I try to fit into the calendar year, it’s uncommon for me to have time to see a movie more than once during its theatrical run. Typically that’s not a big deal, but in the case of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street I found myself disappointed not to have a chance to revisit the Tim Burton movie on the big screen. Thankfully I’ve had the soundtrack to tide me over until the inevitable DVD release, which has finally been announced by Paramount.

April 1st brings Sweeney Todd to DVD in both single disc and a two-disc special edition. The studio has also announced an HD DVD version of the release, although that may be subject to change considering the recent developments in that format. Personally I’m hoping we get some high definition version of the movie quickly and that it isn’t delayed while the aftermath of the format war is sorted out.

The two-disc edition carries quite a few bonus materials, especially in contrast to the bare bones single disc version. Fortunately the two editions carry separate artwork so you won’t mix the two up. The special edition even has a razor-laden slipcase for the packaging. Check out the special features on the two disc edition below, and below that the package artwork for the different versions, then check out Sweeney Todd on DVD (and hopefully HD DVD) on April 1st.
