Kenny Powers Hits A Homerun On DVD

It’s one thing for a network to pull in viewers using massive amounts of advertising and star power, but it’s another to have a show amass its audience all on its own. Eastbound & Down may have gotten a rough start, but it finished strong leading HBO to bring it back for a second season.

Kenny Powers’ baseball career didn’t pan out as he’d hoped. After getting kicked off his team he had no choice but to return to his hometown of Shelby County, North Carolina and take a position teaching Phys Ed at his old middle school. Even with his new job Kenny is still a hotheaded offender and wreaks havoc across town.

Not only is it important you buy Eastbound & Down on DVD when it’s released June 30th so you’re ready for the premiere of the second season in 2010, but you should also get familiar with Danny McBride. He stars as Powers and is the show’s co-creator and co-writer. McBride has been in a number of comedic hits including Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express, is in the upcoming Land of the Lost and has a bunch of films on the way. He’s a downright hilarious actor that is sure to be around for a while.

Eastbound & Down will be available in a 2-disc DVD set that has all six episodes of the first season as well as special features including “Making Eastbound & Down,” deleted scenes, bloopers, audio commentaries, “Kenny Powers: Greatest Hits” and two fake car commercials with Will Ferrell. The gag reel may be the bonus feature I’m looking forward to most but I’d bet all of the other options are just as amusing, particularly the car commercials. Will Ferrell as Ashley Schaefer may be ridiculous funny, but I don’t know if I’d ever buy a car from him.
