Just two weeks into September and stores are packed with Halloween costumes and decorations. Holiday preparation begins at least two months before the actual holiday. I say we hold off on Christmas preparations until November 24th. What better way to kick of the holiday season than with the release of Four Christmases on DVD and Blu-ray? Okay, I can think of better ways, but I’d still rather not rush the year away.

When Christmas-time rolls around, most people take that as a cue to get together with their loved ones and celebrate. Brad and Kate (Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon) enjoy another tradition: running away from their families and going on an exotic vacation. It’s that time of year again and Brad and Kate’s bags are packed. Everything is going according to plan until their flight gets canceled. A minor delay turns into a disaster when they’re caught on camera by a news crew, exposing their secret getaway. Now they have no choice but to make four trips in order to visit both sets of divorced parents.

When you’ve got a film with five Academy Award-winning actors (Witherspoon, Robert Duval, Sissy Spacek, Jon Voight, and Mary Steenburgen), you expect a quality film. Four Christmases is far from it, but try to put that behind you and give it some credit for trying. Isn’t that what the holidays are all about?

If you’d like to get into the holiday spirit and give this film a shot, the DVD will cost you $28.98 and the two-disc Blu-ray edition $35.99. The DVD will get you the widescreen and full-screen version of the film but no extra material. On the other hand, the BD has a handful of featurettes including “Behind the Story,” “Four Christmases: Holiday Moments,” “HBO First Look – Four Christmases: Behind the Madness,” and “Four Christmases: Favorite Christmas Memories,” as well as deleted scenes and outtakes.
