Cute, furry animals can get away with anything, but cute, furry cartoon animals can get away with even more, like convincing you to buy G-Force on DVD or Blu-ray. The concept of a team of guinea pigs being spies is downright ridiculous, but when G-Force hits stores on December 15th I bet your inner child will get the best of you.

Darwin (Sam Rockwell), Juarez (Penelope Cruz), and Blaster (Tracy Morgan) are a trio of super-smart guinea pigs working for the FBI. When the animal unit is shut down, the guinea pigs find themselves trapped in a pet store’s rodent display. The team has to figure out a way to escape so they can stop Leonard Saber (Bill Nighy) from taking over the world using household appliances. G-Force features a stellar voice cast, including Rockwell, Cruz, Morgan, Jon Favreau, Steve Buscemi, Nicolas Cage, and Dee Bradley Baker, as well as an impressive live-action one consisting of Bill Nighy, Will Arnett, Zach Galifianakis, and Kelli Garner.

You’ll have three buying options for G-Force. There’s a single-disc DVD, a two-disc DVD, and a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. The first will run you $29.99, but for $10 more you can get the two-disc DVD, which has a nice selection of bonus material. There’s audio commentary with director Hoyt H. Yeatman, Jr., “Blaster’s Boot Camp,” “G-Force Mastermind,” “G-Farce Bloopers,” deleted scenes, and three music videos. “G-Force Mastermind” will likely be the best of the bunch, focusing on how Yeatman and producer Jerry Bruckheimer developed the concept.

If you’ve got an affinity for animation, spending the $44.99 on the combo pack might be worth it. In addition to all the extras from the two-disc DVD version, you also get Cine-Explore with Darwin, Blaster, and Yeatman, as well as “Access Granted: Inside the Animation Lab.” The first feature gives you a look at the computer graphic effects, and the second an exclusive tour of the facility in which the film was animated. That tour includes details of every step of the process from initial sketches to the final performances.

G-Force may not appeal to most adults, but the holiday season will be right around the corner, and it would make the perfect gift for any kid. Be warned: don’t buy this DVD for your child unless you’re prepared to buy a guinea pig after the film.
