Remember Dark Skies? Part of the same NBC programming block that brought us Profiler and The Pretender, Dark Skies was one of many mid-'90s series hoping to ride the coattails of The X-Files to fame and glory. The series played sort of like a backstory version of that better-known series, positing an expansive government conspiracy to cover up the alien presence on our world beginning with the infamous Roswell crash. The show begins in the 1960s, with John Loengard (Eric Close) and Kimberly Sayers (Megan Ward) stumbling onto the truth and launching a long campaign to defeat the top-secret government agency called Majestic 12 and expose the truth about the invading Hive aliens before it's too late. Working under the tagline that "History as we know it is a lie," the show put a genre spin on numerous historical events such as the assassination of JFK.
The show only lasted one season, but it developed a devoted following that has no doubt been itching for an official DVD release so they can replace those bootleg copies they picked up at Comic Con. Luckily, Shout! Factory has ridden to the rescue. The eagle eyes over at TVShowsOnDVD.com have spotted a pre-order listing for Dark Skies: The Declassified Complete Series up on Amazon with a release date of January 18th. The six-disc set will include every episode of the show, plus the feature-length pilot, all for a MSRP of $49.99.
