With every season that comes out, American Horror Story's casting team proves itself to be among the best in the biz, and I think Season 13 is shaping up to be the most impressive one yet. (Not just because John Waters is in it, but that's a prominent pie piece.) The production kicked off in April, and it sounds like all the awesome casting news has yet to subside. Get your bowling pin-juggling skills polished, because Twisty's ba-a-ack!

I tried lugging a calliope into this story, but I guess we'll have to make do with just imagining the sounds and smells of AHS' fourth season, Freak Show. Because guess what? Esteemed actor and Ryan Murphy regular John Carroll Lynch isn't the only veteran of Fräulein Elsa's Cabinet of Curiosities who will make a grand return for the Coven-fueled season. As Deadline reports, we'll also get to reconnect with Mat Fraser's Paul the Illustrated Seal, as well as Mena Suvari.

When American Horror Story hits the 2026 TV schedule, it'll feel like 2013-2015 all over again. Although it's hard to know exactly what to expect from either Twisty or Paul when they return, nor whether the events of AHS: Apocalypse's finale (i.e. Michael Langdon's death) affected their current situations. I mean, both of the characters would have been around 50 in the season's 1952 setting, so we'll definitely be dealing with a flashback situation.

Not that this is the first time we'll be reconnecting with Twisty or John Carroll Lynch. Though this will be Mat Fraser's first time back in this world since Freak Show, Lynch appeared in Hotel's hellish Halloween episode as John Wayne Gacy, and later reprised Twisty for Season 7's Cult storyline. He landed his biggest role yet for 1984 as the disturbed groundskeeper Mr. Richter. I cannot wait to see him back in Twisty mode, though.

Beyond those two AHS character returns, as well as Suvari's casting, we can also look forward to seeing actor Berto Colón making his debut in this sordid world.

Unfortunately, no details were offered up for Suvari's role. Fans might recall she previously portrayed Elizabeth Short, the Black Dahlia, back in Season 1, and then again in Apocalypse's episode "Return to Murder House." It doesn't seem like there's much of a need to bring the Dahlia back for any Coven-related duties, so perhaps she'll portray another historically tragic character.

Perhaps best known for his work on Orange Is the New Black and The Night Agent, Colón is reportedly set to take on the role of Joe the Doorman, who is said to be under the employ of Jessica Lange's character. Interesting that we still don't quite know who Lange will be playing just yet, although I fully thought Ryan Murphy's initial reveal was about her playing Constance Langdon again. It's clear she'll have a doorman, whoever she is.

This quartet of actors is joining what is already a shockingly great cast of award winners and fan favorites. Check out a full list of cast members below!

How many more cast members can this show factor into the new season? Technically, there are still dozens and dozens of stars from past seasons who have yet to be invited back, at least as far as we know. I'd love to see Connie Britton back as a Coven member and not just as Vivien again, and James Cromwell would be another huge one, given his one-and-done role in Asylum. And I mean, we all want Lily Rabe back as Misty Day, so that HAS to happen.

While waiting to see Twisty back in very non-hilarious action, all twelve seasons of American Horror Story can be streamed via Hulu subscription or Disney+ subscription.

One of TV’s busiest producers at any given time, Ryan Murphy finally gave American Horror Story fans more reasons to look forward to the upcoming Season 13, which will hopefully wrap in time to debut on the 2026 TV schedule. Initially through a Jessica Lange-infused first look, and then through the confirmation that the anthology’s newest chapter will return to the bewitching city of New Orleans for a proper Coven sequel that's bringing all kinds of former stars back.

Gloriously, Murphy followed that up with daily character reveals, first with the returning Sarah Paulson as Cordelia Goode, and then with a clip earlier today of Emma Roberts back in b---h mode as the irrepressible Madison Montgomery. Check out the vid, which is set within the hallowed halls of Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies, which Murphy confirmed was rebuilt in NOLA to film the season.

Truth be told, Madison remains one of my least favorite AHS characters, but entirely for the reasons why so many other fans love her. So it's more of a love to hate kind of thing than pure disinterest.

But Coven did feature one of my favorite American Horror Story characters, and it's one whose return status is currently unclear, as the actress is not among the cast members that has been announced for Season 13. Not that it's stopping fans from calling for her to be included.

I Stand With Fans Who Want Lily Rabe's Misty Day Back For Season 13

One of the most tragic characters conceived for this anthology series, Misty Day was a witch who was legitimately burned at the stake, Salem style, for bringing an animal back to life. She remains a part of the season by bringing certain characters back form the afterlife, but just when it seemed like she'd be made whole again, Misty surprisingly remained stuck in hell at the end of Coven’s season.

Thankfully, that wasn't the last fans saw of her. Misty finally did make a canonically legitimate return to the land of the living after Apocalypse’s time-traveling shenanigans reversed many characters’ deaths by killing off the Antichrist Michael. So for all intents and purposes, Misty is still presumably capable of coming back. (I mean, she might not want to for obvious "avoiding being burned to death" reasons.)

Admist the myriad positive comments calling Paulson and Roberts' characters "Mother," and people going relatively gaga in general, some fans are calling for other characters to return beyond the ones we've seen so far, and I'm putting all my support behind everyone asking for Misty to grace us with her presence again.

While I'm admittedly single-minded in my hopes for Lily Rabe to tap into her inner Steve Nicks again, I can't exactly deny those above and elsewhere also calling for Frances Conroy's Myrtle Snow to also return to Miss Robicheaux's. Not to mention those hoping to see Jamie Brewer's Nan again after she also popped back up in Apocalypse.

As far as new cast members go, the ever-wonderful John Waters is joining this universe for an as yet undisclosed role, while pop queen movie star Ariana Grande is also in the mix, and has been dying to talk about it. Maybe Grande will be playing the new musical witch that Misty connects with. I may take offense of this season ends up being a big Wicked crossover, though.

Never before in its going-on-13-year run has American Horror Story gone a full two years between new seasons, but April 24 marks the second anniversary of Delicate’s finale (which probably doesn’t justify party favors), and there’s no guarantee that the upcoming horror series’ next season will actually debut on the 2026 TV schedule. But praise be to the Minotaur, as Ryan Murphy and FX have finally delivered something tangible for Season 13. Or should I say, something Lange-ible.

Yeah, I’ll admit that was a rougher pun than I’d expected, but it’s all for the greater good of seeing Jessica Lange back in the mix for the very first look at the new season. Regardless of how new it may be, fans will no doubt instantly recognize the familiar setting and character.

Oh hell to the yeah to the Satan. Or whatever dark entities we believe are responsible for the many atrocities that went down inside that very establishment. The location used for Murder House will forever be recognizable for its windows, as well as for all the haunted s--t that's gone down in there over the years. And the commenters are all over that connection as well. Check out some of the most ecstatic responses, with even Kyle Richards sharing a "Yesss" comment.

I want to bottle all of this high-energy happiness and save some of it for later. But for now let's refresh ourselves on where we last saw Lange's beloved character Constance Langdon.

AHS: Apocalypse Revealed And Retconned Constance's Death

While it's unclear at the moment whether or not Jessica Lange will be portraying any of her other American Horror Story characters, the image above makes it clear that Constance is back, so we'll keep the focus on her for now.

In the OG season of Murder House, we learned that Constance was the mother of Evan Peters' Tate and the attic-bound Bartholomew, and the season ended with her as the grandmotherly guardian of Michael, the antichrist baby that Vivien Harmon died giving birth to (after being impregnated by Tate's ghost). Just your average cable drama plot is all.

Seven seasons later, Apocalypse gave us the follow-up story that said grandchild (Michael Langdon) grew up to indeed be the destroyer of worlds, as portrayed by Cody Fern. A flashback showed that an Constance, overwhelmed by Michael's horrific and corpse-amassing actions, committed suicide within Murder House to spend enternity with her children.

Only that didn't quite happen, as Billie Lourd's Mallory used her witchy time magic to go back to 2015 to arrange Michael's death via vehicle before he attained full strength. Though he begged Constance to take him into the house so that his spirit could live on, she refused, and went on to survive beyond the point when her suicide would have happened.

Considering Season 13 shows her still inside that haunted home, one can assume she's still keen on staying near her ghostly children. But what has she been up to since Michael's death in 2015, and why would this new season have the need to return to Murder House?

It's Time To Break Out My Infantata Wishes Again

At least once per each American Horror Story season, there's a moment where I allow my brain to go off half-cocked with the notion that Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk could possibly bring back one of this anthology's most haunting creations: the Infantata! Or, if you're into non-monstrous monikers, Thaddeus Montgomery!

As we all hopefully know, Thaddeus was child of Nora and Charles Montgomery who was kidnapped and murdered (a la the Lindbergh baby) and then sent back to his parents in pieces. Charles brought those pieces back together and injected new life into it, though the being that returned was not their loving little baby, and was more bloodthirsty than all that.

Despite only appearing for a handful of quick flashes in Season 1, the Infantata quickly became a fan-favorite monster within this world, all the more so due to his non-ghostly-but-still-undead nature, mixed with his bloodthirst. Understandably, the character's return has been limited, as original portrayer Ben Woolf passed away in 2015.

However, the ghoulish li'l heathen returned in fine form for American Horror Stories' two-part Rubber(wo)Man episode, where he and the home's other threats kill off the teens bullying Scarlett. A fun return, for sure, but certainly not enough.

Will American Horror Story Season 13 be the one to give the Infantata a bigger storyline? Is it ridiculous to even say those words in that order? Probably so, but I'm still here for it, especially with John Waters in the cast. I've definitely theory-wished for Infantata to return in the past, so I guess I won't be too devastated if it doesn't pan out.

Speaking of the larger cast, Season 13 also marks Sarah Paulson’s return following her justifiable break. Beyond her, Waters and Lange, the cast also includes Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman, with Ariana Grande as the second new addition in the bunch. Stay tuned for release date news!

Throughout its twelve seasons to date, American Horror Story has become a genuine contender for TV's best revolving-door cast, including both Ryan Murphy's recurring stable as well as myriad one-off AHS actors who've come and gone. and the anthology isn't suddenly changing course for the still cloaked-in-mystery Season 13. While fans are already aware of quite a few returning faces, with Sarah Paulson back on board, someone new has been added to the lineup, and it’s an actor/filmmaker who 100% should have been involved from the very beginning.

Join me in flamboyantly applauding American Horror Story Season 13 for adding Pink Flamingos and Chucky-verse vet John Waters for what will no doubt be a delicious, devious, and duplicitous role that could presumably also be described using lots of other D-words. Waters is the reigning crown prince of camp, and he’s definitely leaned into becoming more of a horror icon as the years have gone by.

While Ryan Murphy usually likes to reveal big casting news through the show itself, usually through creepy social media videos, Waters himself was the one to let the cat out of the bag in this instance. While onstage for a spoken-word performance in Baltimore (via Baltimore Fishbowl), the Serial Mom helmer dopped this most fabulous bombshell on the crowd:

He could have finished that thought by saying, "And the world will completely end, AHS: Armageddon-style, as soon as the season is over," and I'm not sure any of those words would have truly hit home, because HUZZAH! John Waters on American Horror Story! It's like getting Halloween for Christmas!

I can only assume anyone reading this knows exactly why Waters is such a non-guilty-pleasure prize for this series, and why I've wanted him on board since Murder House. He's as arch a performer as can be, with an air of delightful menace and an unmistakable voice. Having him bring life to any Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk characters would be aces, but this "big new part" in the anthology franchise sounds downright dreamy.

If there were time enough in the day, I could easily sit back and envision the Grammy nominated performer taking on every single role within this show, from Dr. Ben Harmon to Ramona Royale to Twisty the Clown. For reals, if AI could ever be good for anything, it'd be turning John Waters into every American Horror Story character so far.

Elsewhere in his spoken-word performance, Water talked about how his on-screen roles have been heading in a somewhat similar direction for a while now, saying:

Thinking about John Waters in all of Vincent Price's roles is a whole other line of imagining outside of AHS, so that'll have to be put on the back burner for now. But no matter, since he will legitimately be popping up on FX's hit anthology when it presumably hits the 2026 TV schedule in October.

Okay so now I cannot wait to see Ariana Grande and John Waters sharing the screen, which is not a sentence I thought I'd ever say.

Could this cast possibly get any better? Well, yeah, since there are lots of other AHS vets not listed there, as well as tons of other A-tier performers also not in the mix. But is this an A+ lineup all the same? Indeed, it's simply...Divine.

Ryan Murphy shows are known for being visually striking, and for often including the same company of actors time and time again. Chief among them is Sarah Paulson, who has starred in most of the seasons of American Horror Story (which is streaming with a Hulu subscription). She'll be back for the upcoming Season 13, but explained the reason why she needed to take a break from the terrifying anthology series.

Fans were hyped when the AHS Season 13 announcement revealed that many of the OG actors were returning, including both Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson. The latter actress was noticeably missing for the past two seasons NYC and Delicate, and in an interview with Variety the Glass actress explains why she took that sabbatical from the series, offering:

Honestly, this tracks. Being an iconic Scream Queen is tiring work, as its an inherently physical job. And Paulson's body doesn't know that it's all pretend, resulting in exhaustion for her mind and body. As such, she decided to step away from American Horror Story for a few years. Luckily she'll be back with a vengeance with the mysterious 13th season.

Part of why Paulson became such an icon in AHS is how different her characters have been throughout the years. And for some seasons like Hotel she's played multiple characters in the same season. Through it all we've seen her scream, cry, run, and be murdered along the way. Talk about heavy work.

Aside from AHS, Paulson has also worked with Ryan Murphy on American Crime Story and, more recently the Hulu show All's Fair, which has been trashed by critics but quite popular on the streamer. Later in the same interview, Paulson explained why she wanted to return to the horror anthology series, saying:

Looks like the cast of AHS 13 has helped get her psyched, as she'll be reunited with frequent collaborators Jessica Lange, Emma Roberts, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Billie Lourd and more. So on top of having the time away from the show, she's seemingly happy to get the old band back together.

There was no American Horror Story this year for Halloween, but Season 13 is expected to arrive next fall as part of the 2026 TV schedule. Hopefully we get information about its theme and release date sooner rather than later.

As Ariana Grande is preparing to star in what is one of the most-anticipated movies in 2025 with the release of Wicked: For Good this week, she is preparing for her next role. The “yes, and?” singer recently wrapped filming Focker In-Law, and was just announced as part of the cast for American Horror Story Season 13. Aside from the star-studded lineup for the new season of the hit anthology series, not much else is known about what’s in store. And Grande is trying hard to avoid spoilers.

Grande has been busy on the Wicked: For Good press tour, which came amid the AHS13 announcement. Variety brought up the new season to Grande at the 2025 Governors’ Awards, and she really tried her hardest to say nothing, and I applaud her for her efforts:

At this point, avoiding spoilers is likely second-nature to her since she’s spent a few years trying not to spill too much about the Wicked films, despite the stage show. It does sound like she and the cast know some details about what’s in store, as Grande revealed that creator Ryan Murphy reached out to her with a text about it. Not surprisingly, she couldn’t even share much about that.

This won’t be Ariana Grande’s first time working with Murphy. She briefly appeared in the first season of the Fox horror comedy Scream Queens in 2015 as Chanel #2. Her character was unfortunately killed early on by the season’s serial killer, the Red Devil, but it was pretty memorable. With her reuniting with Murphy after over 10 years, it will be exciting to see what they cook up together, especially since Season 13 of American Horror Story will include some pretty big AHS heavy hitters.

American Horror Story marks Grande’s first television role since guest starring on the Showtime family tragicomedy Kidding in 2020. She may find it hard to avoid spoilers, but it should be a little easier with AHS since the wait probably won’t be nearly as long as Wicked, which officially wrapped filming in early 2024. At the very least, Grande doesn’t seem to know too much right now, which is also making it easy, aside from some key details.

It's unknown when plot details and the title will be revealed for Season 13, including who everyone will be playing. The fact that the little information Grande received about it was enough to get her on board is proof that fans will likely be in for a ride. It should be interesting to see how American Horror Story Season 13 turns out and how the cast continues to avoid spoiling anything, but for now, those with a Hulu subscription can watch all 12 seasons and prepare.

The American Horror Story franchise has been going strong since back in 2011 with the Murder House season that started it all, and that season is still my favorite out of all those that I've seen so far. Now, with creator Ryan Murphy revealing details about the long-awaited Season 13, the cast list has me convinced that I'm going to need to plan on tuning in after the end of the 2025 TV schedule. Not only are there many big names coming back, but one new cast member is going from Wicked to... well, something probably wicked in a different way!

Among those on the cast list (as revealed on Instagram on Halloween 2025) are several of the AHS cast members to appear in the most seasons. Brace yourself for some very familiar names, and check out who you can expect when American Horror Story comes back:

While there are a lot of names to be excited about, there's a reason why the comment section is largely full of fans freaking out about Jessica Lange. After starring in the first four seasons, Lange hasn't returned to AHS for more than a guest role since 2015. (There are also plenty of people excited about Ariana Grande, with the news breaking less than a month before the arrival of Wicked: For Good in the 2025 movie release schedule.)

There reveals came with "I'll Be Seeing You" by Vera Lynn playing, and I've found Vera Lynn songs to be fun when paired with horror ever since "We'll Meet Again" was effectively used in Stranger Things. There was some bad news to go with the thrills of the cast list, though, as the video confirmed that Season 13 will premiere on Halloween... in 2026. With AHS Season 12 wrapping back in April 2024, that will mean more than two full years without any new episodes. Take a look:

As noted, a lot of the fans commenting on the video are sharing their excitement about Jessica Lange and Ariana Grande, and one person caught the AHS: Coven reference of the iconic "Surprise, bitch, I bet you thought you'd seen the last of me." That line has been heavily memed since Billie Lourd dropped it in her role as Madison Montgomery in Season 3. Interestingly, both Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett are also currently starring on network TV shows, with CBS' Matlock for Bates and ABC's 9-1-1 for Bassett.

At least one person was celebrating that Kim Kardashian won't be part of the cast despite her doing well enough in Season 12 when she channeled sister Kourtney Kardashian. Ryan Murphy was impressed enough by the reality star's turn as a scripted actress that he cast her in All's Fair, which premieres with a stacked cast on Tuesday, November 4 for anybody with a Hulu subscription.

With AHS Season 13 not premiering for another year, fans might be in for a long wait until more details emerge beyond the cast list. That said, those actors are interesting enough that I may use the next year to catch up on the American Horror Stories seasons I've missed over the years. After all, even though AHS is an anthology, it pays to see the actors playing different roles time and again.

Depending on whom you ask, American Horror Story: Freak Show, which is season 4 of the popular anthology series, is either one of the best seasons, or, one of the more middling ones. Personally, as somebody who just watched it (I know, I’m way late to the party), I thought it was pretty good. Twisty the Clown was interesting (While he lasted), and I liked Jessica Lange’s arc as Elsa Mars.

However, one reason why I think I liked and didn’t love the season is that it reminded me of one of my favorite horror movies, Freaks, from 1932. I say it reminded me, but American Horror Story: Freak Show was nowhere near as interesting or as honed in on the actual performers as I would have liked it to have been.

That said, Freaks is, and it’s one of the best movies ever made. Here’s why.

Even Back In 1932, It Showcased That The Ugliest Evil Comes From People Who Think They’re Superior

The plot of Freaks is rather simple. Slightly based on the short story, “Spurs” by Tod Robbins, Freaks is about a trapeze artist named Cleopatra (Olga Baclanova) who pretends to be in love with a little person named Hans (Harry Earles) because he is set to come into possession of a large inheritance. The two wed, but Olga is really in love with a strong man named Hercules (Henry Victor).

Well, Hercules and Cleopatra conspire to kill Hans, but the other circus performers learn of the deceit and work together to mutilate both Hercules and Cleopatra in an ending that I will get into later. But, man. It’s really hard to sit through. And, it’s not because Tod Browning, who was the director of one of the quintessential vampire movies, Dracula, used actual performers, like a man with no limbs, or conjoined twins.

No, it’s disturbing because the circus performers are the obvious victims, and the “normal” people are the villains. Because even back in the segregated time of 1932, the film makes it clear that what Hercules and Cleopatra are plotting to do is wrong. They don’t see the performers as people. They see them as things, or rather, as freaks, even though the movie itself makes it clear that these are just hard-working, regular people.

Honestly, it’s seeing just how black the human heart can be that makes this such a startling film. And, even though most people probably wouldn’t call it one of the best horror movies of all time, I certainly would, as it’s truly horrific how evil people can be.

The "One Of Us" Scene Is Parodied Today, But Tragic In The Actual Film

There are some movie quotes that are so famous that you may have heard of them but don’t even know what movie they’re from. Lines like “You talking to me?” or “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn” (from Taxi Driver, and Gone With the Wind, respectively) are so well-known that you might have even recited them and never even watched the movies they came from. That’s just how far their reach is.

Well, another line that you’ve probably heard is, “Gooble, gobble, gooble, gobble. We accept her. One of us. We accept her. One of us.” It was parodied in The Wolf of Wall Street, and it’s been in a myriad of cartoons, like The Simpsons, and the Clerks cartoon (Which I should really write about one day).

Anyhow, it originally comes from the movie Freaks. And, while it’s now a parody, it definitely wasn’t in the movie, where the circus performers are giving a genuine gesture of accepting Cleopatra as one of their own. They want to have “a loving cup” for the new couple, and instead of it being a joyous occasion, a drunk Cleopatra throws her drink on the performers and shrieks that they’re all “freaks!”

It’s tragic. It’s awful, and it’s hard to watch. Especially when you hear their silence and see their sadness after she screams it. Freaks is a movie where you feel bad for the characters, and then angry, which brings me to my next point.

The Heroes Were Genuine Circus Performers, And Their Actions Feel Justified

I mentioned how the cast was mostly circus performers, and many of them were actually known entities prior to the movie. For example, Harry Earles, who played Hans, was part of a quartet known as The Doll Family, which also included Daisy Earles, who is also in this film as the woman who loves Hans before Cleopatra comes into the picture.

Then you have my favorite character, Schlitzie, who is called a female in the film, but was actually a male who wore a dress. Schlitzie was famous at the time and performed in multiple circuses. He’s a pleasant character, and one who you fall in love with the moment you meet him. In fact, most of the performers (Besides Cleopatra and Hercules) are like this, and that’s because the film humanizes them.

That’s why , when they seek vengeance on Cleopatra and Hercules for wanting to hurt one of their own, you feel it’s justified. They are a tight-knit group, and you root for them because they didn’t want to do anybody harm. They welcomed any and all who saw them as human beings. And, when Hercules and Cleopatra didn’t, you feel it is right that they come after them.

However, the film still makes me a little sick to my stomach when I imagine what actually happens to one of the characters, which I’ll get into soon.

The Overall Tone Of The Film Is Especially Creepy

A lot of horror movies these days fly under the radar, and I think it’s because many of them are more “creepy” than “scary.” Sure, that may not seem like a big difference, but anybody who loves horror movies will tell you it definitely is.

Sometimes, creepy can be even more effective than scary (Which might be one of the reasons why some people prefer Midsommar, which is more creepy than scary, to Hereditary, which is terrifying). As somebody who loves horror, creepiness is always more effective for me, and I can’t even watch some horror movies like Smile and A Tale of Two Sisters because I’m too creeped out to finish them, as creepy movies linger longer.

Well, Freaks is more creepy than scary, and a lot of it is the tone. There’s a calm, and almost quiet tone to it, even though there’s music and lots of dialogue for a 30s film. However, you get a sense that something is building all throughout, and when we finally get to that climax, it gives me the shivers every time.

In that way, Freaks is not a scary movie, but it is a creepy one, and that’s why it’s stuck with me for so long. It gets under my skin!

The Ending Always Haunts Me

Lastly, the ending of Freaks is truly horrific, as after the circus performers get their hands on Cleopatra, they mutilate her into a human duck woman. In a scene that some call “The Code of the Freaks,” we see that Cleopatra now has no legs, but rather, a feathered stump. Her eye is gouged out, and she makes squawking noises. She is more creature than person.

And this always disturbs me. She was wrong for what she did, and I think the performers deserved to get revenge, but to destroy her like that? This goes to the creepiness factor again, and that scene really haunts me.

So much so that Twisty the Clown was nothing compared to this. I mean, not even close. None of the season was.

Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story is arguably one of the best FX shows ever, and was welcomed part of the Halloween season for years. While fans can re-watch AHS tenure on the air with a Hulu subscription, we're not being treated to the 13th season. But would Sarah Paulson return to the horror anthology series? Luckily for us, she recently addressed this.

Paulson has starred in some of the best American Horror Story seasons, and is known for crafting wildly different characters each time. The iconic scream queen was recently interviewed by People at the Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women's Filmmaker Program Luncheon, revealing her thoughts about returning for more American Horror Story. She said:

Well, that's definitely a hopeful message. While Paulson didn't explicitly confirm anything, it sounds like she's expecting to return if/when AHS returns to FX. Whether or not that'll happen in time for this year's spooky season remains to be seen, but clearly Ryan Murphy's muse is down to clown.

While fans have been treated to new content from Murphy, they've been left wondering if American Horror Story Season 13 was going to return. We've gotten a new season almost every fall since it premiered in 2011, so this is a tradition for longtime fans of the series.

As previously mentioned, Ryan Murphy is still bringing chilling TV content to fans. A new season of Monster is arriving in early October for those with a Netflix subscription, this time centering around suspected serial killer Ed Gein. And a fourth season focused on Lizzie Borden is already in the works. Still, longtime fans of the entertainment mogul are hoping for more AHS sooner rather than later. Preferably with Sarah Paulson playing yet another iconic character.

In a worst case scenerio, American Horror Story could end up joining a list of other Ryan Murphy shows that have either been cancelled or let on in definite hold. Ratched was cancelled by Netflix despite originally being ordered for two seasons, while fans are still hoping to see more of The Politician and/or Hollywood. Hopefully the future of AHS becomes clear sooner rather than later.

Who knows? Perhaps a new season is already in the works and Sarah Paulson was just being cheeky with her comments. Only time will tell, but it's clear that there's fan interest about the future of the long-running anthology series. Either way, Murphy is bringing new horror content to the small screen this October, which something I can definitely get behind.

There is something so infectious about a dance sequence that, even in movies and TV shows in which they occur pretty much out of nowhere and, in theory, should not work, they still do in most cases. In fact, some of the most iconic and beloved numbers in pop culture history do not even come from titles categorized as musicals. Step back in time and review the following most cherished examples of the like.

Napoleon Has "Canned Heat" (Napoleon Dynamite)

While most of the dialogue is extremely quotable and Jon Heder's title character is a one-of-a-kind instant comedy icon, if you ask me, the moment that 2004's Napoleon Dynamite won audiences over is its centerpiece dance sequence. In a last-ditch effort to help his best friend, Pedro (Efren Ramirez), win class president, the nerd busts out some absolutely ridiculous, yet passionate, dance moves in an impromptu routine set to Jamiroquai's "Canned Heat," which earns a roaring round of applause from his classmates.

Nothing Suits Barney Like A Suit (How I Met Your Mother)

In the 100th episode of the beloved TV sitcom, How I Met Your Mother, Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) contemplates whether or not he should give up his suits forever in order to score with an attractive bartender who hates men in business attire. He then imagines an elaborate song and dance number professing his love for his wardrobe called "Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit," featuring the rest of the snappily dressed cast.

Tom's Dreams Are Coming True ((500) Days Of Summer)

It is moments like this that make 2009's (500) Days of Summer one of the best romantic-comedy movies of its time. Tom Hansen (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is so high on cloud nine after starting up a romance with Zooey Deschanel's title role that he imagines the local townspeople are joining him for a brief dance set to Hall & Oates' "You Make My Dreams Come True" during his morning commute.

"The Name Game" (American Horror Story)

Some of the most unsettling moments from American Horror Story masterfully utilize the power of juxtaposition, like in one of the most dazzling moments from Season 2, subtitled Asylum. After receiving shock therapy, Sister Jude (Jessica Lange) hallucinates that she is performing a rendition of Shirley Ellis' 1964 pop hit, "The Name Game," with her fellow patients at Briarcliff Manor.

Gutterballs (The Big Lebowski)

Joel and Ethan Coen's 1998 cult favorite comedy The Big Lebowski is home to two of the most iconic movie dream sequences, with the second one easily taking the cake as the most wonderfully uproarious. Knocked out by Jackie Treehorn, The Dude (Jeff Bridges) imagines he and Maude Lebowski (Julianne Moore) are the stars of an adult film shot in the style of a Busby Berkeley dance number.

Joel Likes That "Old Time Rock And Roll" (Risky Business)

I like to think that occurred in 1983's Risky Business when the future Oscar nominee, as Chicago teen Joel, with the house to himself, celebrates his independence by dancing and lip-synching to Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll" in his underwear.

In the episode of the U.S. version of The Office when Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer), the wedding party, instead of the traditional walk down the aisle, dance to Chris Brown's "Forever," which was originally written as a Doublemint Gum commercial. While this act goes against the couple's wishes, it goes down in history as a memorably unique way to start the ceremony.

Nathan And Kyoko Tear Up The Dance Floor (Ex Machina)

Alex Garland is a writer and director who never fails to dazzle his audience, either with thought-provoking sci-fi concepts, brutally honest societal commentary, or epic dance sequences. All three of which are used to perfection in his 2015 technophobic classic, Ex Machina, when Oscar Isaac's shady, eccentric tech billionaire, Nathan, and his companion, Kyoko (Sonoya Mizuno), shift the tone in a rousing way by interrupting Caleb's (Domhnall Gleeson) interrogation by getting busy to “Get Down Saturday Night” by Oliver Cheatham.

"I'm Just Ken" (Barbie)

There had been a dance sequence earlier in 2023's Barbie when Margot Robbie's title hero hosts a party, but that was nothing out of the ordinary, even for a movie taking place in an alternate dimension where dolls are sentient. The film suddenly incorporates an elaborate, traditional Hollywood dance sequence when Ryan Gosling's Ken expresses his frustration with feeling undervalued by Barbie in the Academy Award-nominated track, "I'm Just Ken."

Jenna Thrills Her Colleagues (13 Going On 30)

One of the most iconic scenes from the hit fantasy rom-com, 13 Going On 30, sees Jennifer Garner's Jenna (an '80s teen trapped in the body of her future, adult self) try to liven things up at her company party by getting everyone to recreate the dance from Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

Rue's Relapse (Euphoria)

After giving in to her addictive urges, Zendaya's Rue imagines that she is in a music video for the actor's haunting single, "All For Us," which illustrates the complicated relationship she has with her family as a result of her habits. The sequence culminates in her being carried outside of her house by a sea of dancers in matching outfits, who also serve as her choir, at night, before a marching band joins in. It marks an invigorating, but also tragic, end to the first season of the provocative coming-of-age drama, Euphoria.

The Deetzes Do The Calypso (Beetlejuice)

One of the all-time greatest and funniest musical moments from a horror movie comes from 1988's Beetlejuice. Hoping to scare the Deetzes (Jeffrey Jones and Catherine O'Hara) and their dinner party guests out of the house, the lingering spirits of Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) use bodily possession to manipulate them into dancing and singing to Harry Belafonte's "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)." Much to their surprise, they enjoy the experience.

Wally, Charley, And Rhonda Channel Bowie (School Spirits)

School Spirits is a TV show told from the perspective of ghosts who have passed away on a midwestern high school campus, where they struggle to cope with the parameters of their afterlife. Wally (Milo Manheim), who was a star athlete in the 1980s, lets off steam by putting on a vinyl copy of David Bowie's "Let's Dance" and leading his fellow ghostly friends in a wonderfully choreographed groove through almost the entire school.

Jamal And Latika Are Victorious (Slumdog Millionaire)

Director Danny Boyle's Best Picture Oscar winner, 2008's Slumdog Millionaire, ends with an upbeat dance number set to the Academy Award-winning original song, "Jai Ho" and led by Dev Patel and Freida Pinto as Jamal and Latika. It might have been surprising to some audiences to see this production suddenly include such a sequence, but it honors a longstanding tradition in Indian cinema.

The Kids Rock The Library (The Breakfast Club)

Many have argued that 1985's The Breakfast Club is the greatest high school movie ever made, despite never taking place during school, but a Saturday detention shared by five teens who each represent a different rung of the teen social hierarchy. The unlikely friends attempt to break up the monotony with an impromptu dance to "We Are Not Alone" by Karla Devito.

"Tequila!" (Pee-wee's Big Adventure)

One reason 1985's Pee-wee's Big Adventure remains a cherished classic is how Paul Reubens' eponymous man-child wins over the hearts of nearly everyone he meets. For instance, he earns the respect of a bar full of bikers with his signature dance to The Champs' rendition of the saxy tune, "Tequila."

Andy Lets The Sunshine In (The 40-Year-Old Virgin)

Judd Apatow's heartfelt, raunchy comedy, 2005's The 40-Year-Old Virgin, ends with Steve Carell's Andy finally losing his "innocence" and expressing his relief through song. The song in particular is The 5th Dimension's "Aquarius / Let the Sunshine In," which transitions into a dance in a wide-open field that the rest of the cast joins him for.

"Come On, Little Sister, Let’s Dance” (The Life Of Chuck)

There are not many Stephen King movies with scenes that leave you feeling invigorated and hopeful, but that is the general response to the centerpiece dance sequence in 2025's The Life of Chuck, from writer and director Mike Flanagan. Tom Hiddleston's title character crosses paths with drumming street performer, Taylor (Taylor Gordon), and spontaneously lets the music drive him, even inviting a random young woman named Janice (played by Annalise Basso) to join him, giving a crowd of bystanders the show of their lives.

Will Shows How They Dance In Gelderland (A Knight's Tale)

A Knight's Tale may take place in 14th-century Europe, but it boasts many modern sensibilities in everything from its dialogue to its soundtrack. For instance, in a scene when William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) is forced to come up with a dance to impress the royalty, he receives some help from his "foxy lady," Jocelyn (Shannon Sossamon), and soon the entire dance floor is rocking out to what we hear as David Bowie's "Golden Years."

Raj's Romantic Fantasy (The Big Bang Theory)

In one episode of The Big Bang Theory, Raj (Kunal Nayyar) finds himself attracted to Bernadette (Melissa Rauch), leading him to have multiple daydreams about her, including one reminiscent of an Indian Cinema dance sequence.

In an essential and bewilderingly surreal episode of 3rd Rock from the Sun, the Solomons experience their first-ever dreams. This proves to be a startling experience for the extra-terrestrial visitors, except for Harry (French Stewart), who imagines he is in an upbeat, urban Broadway production.

Ed Livens Things Up At The Mental Hospital (Good Burger)

In Good Burger, Ed (Kel Mitchell), Dexter (Kenan Thompson), and Otis (Abe Vigoda) are wrongfully committed to a mental hospital, where Ed responds to the request of a patient played by George Clinton himself to change to the music to something funkier, and tunes it to Funkadelic's "(Not Just) Knee Deep." He then leads most of the other patients in an impressively choreographed dance routine, which Dexter uses as an opportunity to knock out the guards and escape.

The Siblings Are Alone Now (The Umbrella Academy)

Netflix's series adaptation of the hit comic book The Umbrella Academy has a clever way of introducing its superpowered main characters early on in the premiere episode. The adoptive siblings are seen grooving to Tiffany's cover of "I Think We're Alone Now," each in a different location and boasting a different style of dance.

Backstreet's Back In Heaven (This Is The End)

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's 2014 apocalyptic meta comedy This is the End ends with most of the main characters (actors portraying uproarious versions of themselves) meeting up in the afterlife, where they celebrate their ascent into Heaven with the Backstreet Boys, who also appear as themselves to perform “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”

The Study Group Is Gonna Finally Be Fine (Community)

Community Season 3 begins with Jeff (Joel McHale) daydreaming about a dance number, featuring the entire cast of characters, with a hopeful outlook on the next year at Greendale.

David's Three-Way Dance Battle (Legion)

In the Season 2 opener of FX's unconventional Marvel Comics adaptation, Legion, one of David's (Dan Stevens) memories of the past year shows him at a club where the mutant engages in an intense dance battle with Lenny (Aubrey Plaza) and Oliver (Jemaine Clement).

Lucifer Is Alright (Lucifer)

The series finale of Lucifer opens with the Devil Incarnate (played by Tom Ellis) leading an upbeat ensemble dance sequence set to Kenny Loggins' "I'm Alright," which starts at a bar before transitioning to the police station, where Lucifer and Detective Dan (Kevin Alejandro) reenact an iconic moment from Dirty Dancing.

They say that “Mother knows best,” but I can think of a few movies and TV shows that challenge that belief. The following are some of the rudest, most cruel, and just plain evil fictional moms whom I am eternally thankful I never had to grow up with.

Margaret White (Carrie)

Sissy Spacek's title character from Brian DePalma's 1976 adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie possesses telekinetic abilities that make her a danger to others, but she is not the villain of the story. That would be her mother, Margaret (Piper Laurie in an Oscar-nominated performance), who is an abusive, extreme religious fanatic with deluded reasoning for cruelly punishing her daughter, whom she even considers to be a punishment for her own past sins.

Lucille Bluth (Arrested Development)

There are very few members of the Bluth Family from Arrested Development who do not boast hilariously despicable personalities. The worst of them all might just be the matriarch, Lucille (Jessica Walter), whose self-serving, elitist ego drives her to manipulate and arrogantly berate all of her "loved" ones, with her own children facing much of the brunt.

Momma Lift (Throw Momma From The Train)

In the 1987 dark comedy movie, Throw Momma from the Train, Owen Lift (Danny DeVito, who also directs) agrees to kill the ex-wife of his writing professor, Larry Donner (Billy Crystal), in exchange for murdering his mother. Honestly, it is hard not to empathize with Owen when Anne Ramsey first appears in her Oscar-nominated role as the loud, nasty, belligerent, and physically abusive Momma Lift.

Livia Soprano (The Sopranos)

Every Sopranos character has their standout qualities, but Livia Soprano (Nancy Marchand) has absolutely none. Her gangster son Tony (James Gandolfini) enters therapy to get over issues stemming from his terrible childhood living under her roof. However, she committed her worst sin against him when he was grown up, attempting to orchestrate his murder.

Lady Tremaine (Cinderella)

You could look at any iteration of the classic fairy tale, Cinderella, and the title character's wicked stepmother could be considered an all-timer in this category, based on her unjustifiably horrid treatment of the innocent young woman. However, Eleanor Audley's portrayal in the Disney animated classic from 1950 is perhaps the most bloodcurdlingly cruel and chillingly intimidating.

Selina Meyer (Veep)

In Armando Iannucci's hilarious political satire, Veep, Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) uses and abuses as many people as possible to rise in the ranks of the United States Government. Receiving the worst treatment, however, is her own daughter, Catherine (Sarah Sutherland), whom she constantly belittles and shamelessly uses as a tool in her campaigns.

Mary Jones (Precious)

One of the most stunning examples of a comedian giving a stellar dramatic performance is Mo'Nique's Oscar-winning role in Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire as the title character's mom, Mary Jones. Not only does she physically and verbally abuse her teenage daughter (played by Gabourey Sidibe), but she also stands by when her husband takes advantage of her, only to blame her for the situation and accuse her of "stealing her man."

Cersei Lannister (Game Of Thrones)

In the world of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels, there are many noble royals who breed despicable children, and just as many noble royals bred from despicable parents. However, Cersei Lannister (played by Lena Headey in HBO's Game of Thrones cast) is an example of a sadistic woman who also bred sadistic children, all of whom would end up meeting a bitter end as a result of her manipulative ways.

Joan Crawford (Mommie Dearest)

Arguably, the mother of all mean movie mothers is not a product of complete fiction, but allegedly based on fact. Faye Dunaway gives a frighteningly over-the-top performance as Academy Award winner Joan Crawford in a 1981 adaptation of Mommie Dearest, a memoir by the screen legend's own adoptive daughter, Christina.

Cookie Lyon (Empire)

The dog-eat-dog nature of the music industry has rarely been captured better than in Lee Daniels and Danny Strong's hit series, Empire, especially as seen through the eyes of Loretha "Cookie" Lyon. Portrayed by Taraji P. Henson in a Golden Globe-winning performance, the record executive and former convict is not opposed to pitting her own children against each other to benefit her own influence over the family's company, Empire Entertainment.

Pamela Voorhees (Friday The 13th)

If you really think about it, Pamela Voorhees (portrayed by Betsy Palmer in the 1980 horror movie classic, Friday the 13th) is not, in essence, a bad mother. It was her loving commitment to her son that drove her to murder the camp counselors she believes were responsible for his fatal drowning. In fact, proof that the sympathetic horror villain was a good mom lies in the mysteriously resurrected Jason and his bid to continue killing debaucherous teens in her honor.

Marie Barone (Everybody Loves Raymond)

On the beloved TV sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond, Frank Barone (Peter Boyle) is the more outwardly spiteful parent to Ray (Ray Romano) and Robert (Brad Garrett). At least he does not treat his sons like children, even as grown-ups, like his wife, Marie, does. Doris Roberts' multi-Emmy-winning role might be an even worse mother-in-law, with the way she puts down Ray's wife, Debra (Patricia Heaton), at seemingly every chance.

Lavona Golden (I, Tonya)

I believe the key to Allison Janney's Oscar win for portraying Tonya Harding's mother, Lavona Golden, in I, Tonya is how persuasively she argues that she is responsible for pushing the Olympic figure skater (played by Margot Robbie) to greatness. However, she takes absolutely no responsibility for instilling qualities of poor sportsmanship, incessant verbal and physical abuse, and her shamelessly manipulative ways.

Evelyn Harper (Two And A Half Men)

Holland Taylor is dynamite in her ferocious, four-time Emmy-nominated performance as the cold and vindictive Evelyn Harper on Two and a Half Men. It is no wonder that her sons, the commitment-phobic Charlie (Charlie Sheen) and hopelessly dissatisfied Alan (Jon Cryer), turned out to be, when you imagine what living with her must have been like.

Petunia Dursley (The Harry Potter Movies)

What makes Petunia Dursley (Fiona Shaw) easily one of the most despicable Harry Potter characters is her terrible role as a parent, but in more than one way. She treats her son, Dudley (Harry Melling), far too well, spoiling him beyond repair. Yet, her treatment of her eponymous orphaned nephew (played by Daniel Radcliffe) is abhorrent, from locking him in a cupboard under the stairs as punishment to making him into her home's indentured servant.

Colleen Donaghy (30 Rock)

Elaine Stritch earned five Emmy nominations for appearing on 30 Rock as the domineering and mercilessly critical mother of Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), Colleen. Jack once accidentally hit her with his car and, as a result of her unfavorable behavior, proceeded to wait eight minutes before deciding to call 9-1-1.

Ruth DeWitt Bukater (Titanic)

Frances Fisher's role in the Titanic cast, Ruth DeWitt Bukater, is an essential example of an overbearing, elitist, and manipulative movie mother. Perhaps her worst offense is forcing Rose (Kate Winslet) to marry her loathsome fiancé, Cal (Billy Zane), purely for the social status it will earn their family.

Brianna Barksdale (The Wire)

On The Wire, the only thing standing in the way of D'Angelo Barksdale's (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) switch to the right side of the law is his mother. Brianna (Michael Hyatt) is constantly manipulating her son into giving up so much for the benefit of their family's unlawful business, including serving a long prison sentence on behalf of his uncle, Avon (Wood Harris).

Eleanor Shaw Iselin (The Manchurian Candidate)

Discovering that you have been brainwashed into becoming a political assassin is terrifying. Discovering that your own mother is involved in the conspiracy, like what Eleanor Shaw Iselin (Angela Lansbury) does to her son, Raymond (Laurence Harvey), in the 1962's The Manchurian Candidate, is simply devastating.

Endora (Bewitched)

Some of the funniest moments on Bewitched would come courtesy of Agnes Moorehead as Endora, a literal witch who never once held back from expressing her resentment toward her mortal son-in-law, Darrin Stephens (original Dick York and later Dick Sargent). Of course, Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) is as much a victim of her mother's domineerance, and one can only imagine what sorts of wicked things she must have put up with while growing up with her.

Mrs. Robinson (The Graduate)

Watching The Graduate from the perspective of Elaine Robinson (Katharine Ross) makes the 1967 dramedy an even more maddening trip. It is bad enough that her mother (played by Anne Bancroft) attempts to ruin her relationship with Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman), but to discover that he is her lover, too, sounds like a nightmare.

Irina Derevko (Alias)

To get a more authentic look at what the life of a spy must be like, I would not recommend checking out the James Bond movies, but the hit ABC series, Alias, which follows the adventures of double agent Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner). She was prepped for the traumatic hardships of espionage at an early age when her mother, Irina Derevko (Lena Olin), faked her death, but even that could not prepare her for when Irina betrayed her daughter in favor of the KGB.

Beverly Sutphin (Serial Mom)

The central character of writer and director John Waters' uproarious dark comedy, 1994's Serial Mom, is Beverly Sutphin (Kathleen Turner), a suburban housewife who would never harm her own children. However, she has absolutely no qualms about brutally harming other people for the sake of her children, which does not make things any better, of course.

Maya Lewis (Scandal)

Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) had dedicated her life and career to making crises disappear on Scandal. On the other hand, her mother, Maya Lewis (Khandi Alexander), has, ironically, dedicated her life to making them happen. However, Olivia did not know that for almost two decades, and, in fact, she was under the impression that her mother was dead that whole time.

Mrs. Windle Vale (Now, Voyager)

Bette Davis stars in director Irving Rapper's 1942 drama, Now, Voyager, as Charlotte Vale, who longs for independence from her overbearing mother (played by Gladys Cooper), who constantly belittles her with comments about her being an embarrassment to their family. Apparently, Mrs. Vale could not stand the idea of her daughter protesting her dominance because the day she does just happens to be the day she succumbs to a sudden heart attack.

Ida Welker (Malcolm In The Middle)

While Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) could be seen as a mean mom, in retrospect, she put up with a lot while raising her five boys (six if you count Bryan Cranston's Hal) on Malcolm in the Middle. While I have nothing but respect for her, I have nothing but disdain for her mother, Ida (Academy Award winner Cloris Leachman), who is a cold, conniving, and downright horrid woman right to her core.

Zinnia Wormwood (Matilda)

Based on the novel by Roald Dahl, 1996's Matilda stars Mara Wilson in the title role of a young girl gifted with telekinetic powers but cursed with despicable adult peers, including her uncaring parents. Not only is her mother, Zinnia Wormwood (Rhea Perlman), a vain, airheaded narcissist, but her father (played by Danny DeVito, who also directs) is just as bad.

Dr. Beverly Hofstadter (The Big Bang Theory)

Almost every member of CBS' The Big Bang Theory cast has a mother with a strong personality, to say the least, but Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) has that claimed unmatched. Psychologist Beverly Hofstadter (Christine Baranski) never bothered to show Leonard any affection, considering she only had children for experimental and research purposes anyway.

Alice Ward (The Fighter)

Melissa Leo gives an Academy Award-winning performance in 2010's fact-based, acclaimed boxing movie, The Fighter, as Alice Ward. The portrayal paints her as a woman who is more concerned with what is best for the athletic careers of her sons, Micky (Mark Wahlberg) and Dicky (Christian Bale), than what is best for their well-beings.

Constance Langdon (American Horror Story)

As one of the most frequent recurring American Horror Story actors, Jessica Lange has played an amusing variety of characters on the seasonal horror anthology TV show. However, her scariest role may be the first, Constance Langdon, whose horrid parenting skills and refusal to take responsibility for them have resulted in chaos in her household and for others affected by her children's actions.

Lilly Dillon (The Grifters)

One might assume that Lilly Dillon (Anjelica Huston) would be happy that her son, Roy (John Cusack), has found love with Myra (Annette Bening), who is in the same line of work as she is: con artistry. However, Lilly is the type of mother who does not believe any woman is good enough for her son, which is why she plots to murder Myra in 1990's The Grifters.

Norma Bates (Bates Motel)

We never actually meet Norma Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's seminal 1960 thriller, Psycho, but we can imagine, from the way her son, Norman (Anthony Perkins), takes on her likeness when murdering people, that she was not an easy person to get along with. The A&E original series, Bates Motel, offers an inside look at the complicated relationship between Norma (Vera Farmiga) and young Norman (Freddie Highmore), which is littered with lies, manipulation, and murder.

Okay, it’s that time of the year when I need to talk about American Horror Story, because what the heck is going on?

Before we get into this, I want to say that yes, I did write an article some time ago about Ryan Murphy covering the Menendez Brothers in Monsters and how I didn’t know if I could support him going forward. A part of me still really feels that way. But there’s also another part that does enjoy his more real-life-focused series instead of those that feel like they glamorize murders, killers, assaulters and so much more.

So in some ways, I am excited for his new shows. But I will admit—the one show of his that I have pretty consistently watched over the last decade has been, and always will be, American Horror Story.

With twelve seasons of cast members, so many different stories and enough trauma to pay for a new therapy bill every time I watch an episode, American Horror Story is one of those shows that truly changes the game every time you watch it. Somehow, Murphy always finds a way to terrify his viewers, and I suppose I can’t help but give him props.

However, next to nothing has been confirmed about Season 13, which many long-term fans have waited for since thirteen is a pretty “spooky” and "superstitious" number that could lead to a great season. But what’s been said about AHS? Let’s talk about what we’ve heard.

Ryan Murphy Has Several New And Returning Shows Coming Up, Including ‘All’s Fair’

It was confirmed in May 2025 that a new show from Ryan Murphy, called All’s Fair, would premiere on Hulu in fall of that same year, according to Deadline. The series follows a group of female lawyers who leave a male-dominated firm to open their own one, and yes, girl power, we love to see it.

I’m not sure how I feel about seeing Kim Kardashian in another one of his shows, but she did all right in AHS Season 12, so I can’t complain too much—not when there are powerhouses like Sarah Paulson, Glenn Close, Niecy Nash and so many more.

This isn’t even the only show Murphy has coming up – there’s going to be another series called American Love Story (because, of course, there is). It’ll focus on the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, as reported by People. Another new series, titled The Beauty, is in the works as well, according to Entertainment Weekly. There’s even another season of Monster in the works – but I’m probably not going to watch that.

But what does all this mean for American Horror Story?

Ryan Murphy Said He’s Always “Working” On The Show, But Apparently, Season 13 Hasn’t Been “Ordered”

So before you even ask, yes, American Horror Story was renewed for Season 13. In fact, back in 2020, Deadline confirmed that FX renewed the show for three more seasons. This was before Season 10 aired, so it was renewed for Seasons 11, 12 and 13. And honestly? If the series ended on Season 13, I would not be upset about it. In fact, that would be fitting.

Even so, that’s really one of the only things that we know about Season 13: that it is supposed to happen. But there hasn’t been much that has come out. In an interview with Variety in October 2024, Murphy admitted that he has “always” worked on the show, but a new update from Disney TV Studios Chief Eric Schrier about the status gives us pause.

Before you ask, Disney owns Hulu, and because FX has a partnership with Hulu, the show is under that umbrella, so that’s why this matters. And in an interview that Schrier did with Deadline in May 2025, he revealed some troubling news – that Season 13 of American Horror Story hasn’t even been ordered yet:

So now we know that the series has been renewed, but because there’s no set idea, the following episodes haven’t been confirmed by the network just yet because Murphy hasn’t finished a story. I understand the concept of rebooting the series, but at this point, I’m not even sure if it’s worth rebooting. I think fans really want to see the series properly come to a close with its thirteenth installment and then bury it with the rest of the corpses that this show has produced.

There Have Been Some Cast Members Who Have Expressed Their Interest To Return – And Some Haven’t

Even then, it’s not like Season 13 hasn’t been brought up to former cast members of the show. In fact, in the same interview that Murphy did with Variety back in October 2024, he said that two OGs of the original seasons – Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson – were interested in returning. Paulson herself said to Murphy that it was time to “get the band back together,” meaning the original cast.

What a way to send out the show with these two and some of the others that we all know and love coming back.

But that doesn’t mean that everyone is aiming to sign back onto this horror fest. Jessica Lange vehemently said she wouldn’t return in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in February 2025. Patti Lupone, who appeared in American Horror Story: Coven and in Season 10, told Gold Derby in April 2025 that she didn’t think she would be back either.

Even so, it’s still incredible to think of who could be back…but with no story or order in sight, I’m not sure if that’ll ever happen.

What This Means For The Future, We’re Not Sure

There are plenty of upcoming Ryan Murphy projects to look forward to if you are a fan of the mega-creator in Hollywood. But it is a shame that one of his longest-running shows doesn’t have a set date.

I’m not sure what this means for the series' future. While there are plenty of great shows releasing on the 2025 TV schedule, I really did wish that Season 13 was a part of it. I support the idea that we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but a girl can dream, you know?

For now, I suppose I can rewatch the show until Season 13 comes around… if it ever does.

The best uses of music in movies and TV shows have typically changed the way we perceive the songs in question forever, especially if the normally jovial tune is heard during or relates to a particularly intense or disturbing scene. Because of the way the following titles used some of the happiest radio hits of all time, we can never hear them again without our hearts skipping a beat.

Zodiac ("Hurdy Gurdy Man" - Donovan)

The opening scene of Zodiac depicts a horrifying crime by the eponymous killer, accompanied by an otherwise relaxing folk ballad from 1968 called "Hurdy Gurdy Man." Coincidentally, Ione Skye, the daughter of the song's writer and performer, Donovan, makes an uncredited appearance in David Fincher's great true crime movie from 2007 as Zodiac Killer witness Kathleen Johns.

Black Mirror ("Anyone Who Knows What Love Is Will Understand" - Irma Thomas)

In one of the best episodes of Black Mirror (Season 1's "Fifteen Million Merits), Abi (Jessica Brown Findlay) auditions for Hot Shot by singing "Anyone Who Knows What Love Is Will Understand." Following this memorable scene from the sci-fi anthology series, the 1964 Irma Thomas hit would be featured in some capacity in every season since, offering plenty more reasons to feel unsettled by the feel-good romance tune.

The Silence Of The Lambs (“Goodbye Horses” - Q Lazzarus)

According to the original writer of "Goodbye Horses," William Garvey, the 1988 one-hit-wonder performed by Q Lazzarus is about “the ability to lift one’s perception above [their] physical limitations." In that case, its inclusion in the terrifying Best Picture Oscar winner, The Silence of the Lambs, as serial killer Jame “Buffalo Bill” Gumb (Ted Levine) embraces his femininity through dance is a perfect match.

Halloween ("(Don't Fear) The Reaper" - Blue Öyster Cult)

To be fair, the lyrics to Blue Öyster Cult’s signature 1976 hit “(Don’t Fear) the Reaper” are not the happiest, referencing a romance destined to end similar to that of Romeo and Juliet. However, the world might have been less receptive to its creepier themes if not for its inclusion in one of the best horror movies of all time, 1978's Halloween, as Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Annie Brackett (Nancy Kyes) are unwittingly being tiled Haddonfield’s own “reaper,” Michael Myers.

Watchmen ("The Times They Are A-Changin'" - Bob Dylan)

There is a dark thematic tone to most of Bob Dylan's earlier work, especially his 1962 breakthrough hit, "The Times They Are A-Changin'." The folk ballad's message of a society experiencing a revolution comes through effectively while playing over the opening titles of 2009's Watchmen, which traces the ups and downs of superheroes' contributions to history in the world Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel.

American Psycho (“Hip To Be Square” - Huey Lewis And The News)

Pop culture's most famous Huey Lewis and the News fan would have to be Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale), who provides an impassioned analysis of 1986's "Hip to Be Square," and the Fore! album in general, as he prepares to murder his colleague, Paul Allen (Jared Leto) in his apartment. Lewis himself would pay tribute to the memorable moment from American Psycho in a Funny or Die bit in which he exuberantly analyzes the 2000 psychological thriller as he prepares to murder “Weird Al” Yankovic.

Insidious ("Tiptoe Through The Tulips" - Tiny Tim)

For years, the only creepy aspect of Tiny Tim's version of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" was that the high-pitched vocalist was actually a lanky, 6'1" man. These days, since its prominent use in the first Insidious movie from 2011, audiences cannot help but picture the demonic "Man with Fire on His Face" when the romantic ukulele ballad plays.

American Horror Story ("Tonight You Belong To Me" - Patience & Prudence)

The best-known version of writers Billy Rose and Lee David's "Tonight You Belong to Me" is by young sisterly duo Patience & Prudence, which became even more famous in 2011, thanks to American Horror Story. The playful 1956 tune about making the most of your time with a loved one appeared in four episodes of the horror anthology TV show's premiere season from 2011, taking place in a haunted house with an extensive history of murders.

Beetlejuice ("Banana Boat (Day-O)” - Harry Belafonte)

In 1988's Beetlejuice, the ghostly Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara Maitland (Geena Davis) attempt to scare off the Deetzes (Jeffrey Jones and Catherine O’Hara) by possessing them and their party guests into dancing and lip-synching to Harry Belafonte’s “Banana Boat (Day-O).” While the scene did not necessarily make the 1956 Calypso hit creepy, it would be forever entwined with the classic horror-comedy movie – a fact that Belafonte told Pitchfork he enjoyed.

Reservoir Dogs ("Stuck In The Middle With You" - Stealers Wheel)

The first of many iconic musical moments in Quentin Tarantino's movies occurs in 1992's Reservoir Dogs, when Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen) puts on K-Billy's Super Sounds of the '70s (which starts playing "Stuck In The Middle With You") and proceeds to torture Officer Marvin Nash (Kirk Baltz). We doubt there is a single person who can listen to Stealers Wheel's upbeat, 1973 rock single without imagining the criminal slicing the cop's ear off, even though that moment is thankfully kept off camera.

A Clockwork Orange (“Singin' In The Rain”)

If there is one cinematic use of 1929's "Singin' in the Rain" as, if not more, iconic as Gene Kelly's performance in the eponymous 1952 musical, it would be the rendition heard in A Clockwork Orange. As Alex DeLarge, Malcolm McDowell belts out the song about happiness that even weather cannot deter during one of the most unspeakably brutal moments from the 1971 Stanley Kubrick movie.

Stranger Things ("Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" - Kate Bush)

There have been many memorable musical moments from Stranger Things but none as impactful as its uses of "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)" in Season 4, which made Kate Bush's definitive track more popular than ever. The English art pop queen’s 1985 ballad first helps rescue Max (Sadie Sink) from Vecna's trance before a remixed reprise accompanies the disparate gang's multi-faceted defeat of the villain in the action-packed finale.

10 Cloverfield Lane ("I Think We're Alone Now" - Tommy James & The Shondells)

While it experienced a new life in the 1980s with Tiffany's cover, the original version of "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tommy James & The Shondells was reintroduced to modern audiences via 10 Cloverfield Lane. The cute pop tune about a couple enjoying their time on their own took on a whole new meaning when it appeared in the 2016 thriller, which takes place in an underground bunker inhabited by survivors of an unknown disaster.

Supernatural ("Carry On, Wayward Son" - Kansas)

"Carry On, Wayward Son" by Kansas would become the de facto theme for Supernatural after it was used in the season finale following the first one. In fact, the series finale of the hit series, following the adventures of paranormal hunters Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki), was named "Carry On," after the 1976 rock epic.

Get Out (“Run Rabbit Run” - Flanagan And Allen)

Originally released in the late 1930s and a hit during World War II, "Run Rabbit Run" became iconic to modern horror movie audiences as the first song featured in Jordan Peele's Oscar-winning 2017 thriller Get Out. The song is heard coming from the car that sneaks up on Andre Hayworth (LaKeith Stanfield), who tries to walk in the opposite direction before getting abducted.

Halloween II (“Mr. Sandman” - Chordettes)

The second installment of the Halloween franchise from 1981 opens in an unexpected manner. Instead of John Carpenter's unmistakable score, we hear the Chordettes' endearing doo-wop hit, "Mr. Sandman," which might have had a more endurable reputation as a retroactively creepy song if not for its use in the time travel movie classic, Back to the Future, four years later.

Kill Bill Vol. 1 ("Woo Hoo" - The 5.6.7.8's)

Before blood hits the screen at the House of Blue Leaves in 2003's Kill Bill Vol. 1, things are peaceful at the Japanese eatery. One major reason why is because the guests are treated to the head-knocking rock 'n roll song, "Woo Hoo," by The 5.6.7.8's, whom Quentin Tarantino discovered while shopping in Japan and wound up casting in the violent revenge movie.

Jeepers Creepers ("Jeepers Creepers" - Paul Whiteman and His Swing Wing)

The lyric "Jeepers creepers, where'd you get those eyes?" takes on a more frighteningly literal meaning in Jeepers Creepers. The eponymous love song by Paul Whiteman and His Swing Wing plays during the final moment of the 2001 horror flick as the grotesque, villainous "Creeper" (Jonathan Breck) shows off his new "peepers," which he stole from Darry (Justin Long).

Shaun Of The Dead ("Don't Stop Me Now" - Queen)

Like most Edgar Wright films, there are many moments from Shaun of the Dead in which music plays a large role but the best takes place at the Winchester. Nearly every move Shaun (Simon Pegg) and the gang make when battling the bar's undead owner is in near-perfect sync with Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now," which randomly starts playing from the jukebox as they are desperate to stay undetected from the horde outside.

The Shining ("Midnight, The Stars And You" - Ray Noble And His Orchestra)

The final moment of Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining slowly zooms into a photo taken at the Overlook in 1921 with a man resembling Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) shown front and center. The chilling shot is accompanied by 1934's "Midnight, the Stars and You" –performed by Ray Noble and his Orchestra with vocals by Al Bowlly – which is most notable today for its inclusion in the 1980 horror classic.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe ("Open Up Your Heart (and Let the Sunshine In)" - The McGuire Sisters)

In The Autopsy of Jane Doe, the titular corpse (actually a witch capable of nearly anything but moving a muscle) likes to taunt the father-son coroners examining her by playing the McGuire Sisters' version of "Open Up Your Heart (and Let the Sunshine In)" on the radio. The otherwise "shiny" tune makes a devasting reprise near the end when Austin (Emile Hirsch) believes he is being rescued by Sheriff Burke (Michael McElhatton) who repeatedly tells him to "open up" the stuck cellar doors until he hears him belt the song's chorus, indicating his nightmare is not yet over.

The Strangers ("My First Lover" - Gillian Welch)

Sometimes turning a happy song into nightmare fuel takes a little manipulation, such as how Gillian Welch's "My First Lover" appears in The Strangers. At one point in the 2008 home invasion thriller, a record scratch causes the romantic folk ballad to repeatedly loop on the lyric, "Quicksilver girl," which is enough to create relentless tension.

Us ("Les Fleurs" - Minnie Riperton)

Sung from the perspective of a flower, Minnie Riperton's 1969 hit "Les Fleurs" is a beautiful song about spiritual renewal. However, when it begins playing as the twist from the ending of Us is revealed and reaches its invigorating crescendo during the apocalyptic final shot, it creates a chilling juxtaposition for Jordan Peele's sophomore hit.

A Quiet Place Part II ("Beyond The Sea" - Bobby Darin)

In A Quiet Place Part II, Emmett (Cillian Murphy) tells Regan (Millicent Simmonds) that he has heard a radio station playing Bobby Darin's scintillating swing hit "Beyond the Sea" on repeat. She correctly deciphers this as a code sent from an island safe haven, which she and Emmett eventually find and, unwittingly, lead a sound-hunting alien to.

Candyman ("The Candy Man" - Sammy Davis Jr.)

Some might argue that 1971's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has its creepy moments, but Aubrey Woods' performance of "The Candy Man" is not one of them. However, by playing Sammy Davis Jr.'s rendition of the song and slowly fading it out with the sound of buzzing bees during the production logos serves as a perfect way to set the tone for the 2021 Candyman requel.

Annabelle: Creation ("You Are My Sunshine" - Charles McDonald)

The end of Annabelle: Creation from 2017 leaves off where the rising action of its 2014 predecessor begins, revealing how Malthus entered the creepy doll. Playing over the closing credits is Charle McDonald's rendition of "You Are My Sunshine," making it the ironic defacto theme of the Conjuring Universe movie.

The House Of The Devil ("One Thing Leads To Another" - The Fixx)

Ti West's 2009 breakthrough feature, The House of the Devil, is a slow-burn horror film that waits to reveal its visceral frights with masterful pacing. During that time, he finds ways to catch you off guard with moments of levity, such as when Samantha (Jocelin Donahue) tries to distract herself from her creepy "babysitting" gig by dancing around her clients' house to The Fixx's "One Thing Lead to Another" on her tape player.

Dawn Of The Dead ("The Man Comes Around" - Johnny Cash)

Upon deeper examination, Johnny Cash's "The Man Comes Around" is a song about Jesus Christ's return to Earth on Judgment Day. Its foreboding apocalyptic message is greatly emphasized by its inclusion over the opening credits of Zack Snyder's 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead.

The Handmaid's Tale ("Cloudbusting" - Kate Bush)

Despite boasting one of Kate Bush's most cheerful melodies, "Cloudbusting" is actually one of her darkest hits, inspired by the true story of a boy whose father was taken away from him when he was abruptly arrested. However, that tale is far lighter than the story of The Handmaid's Tale, which uses the song in a scene from Season 3 in which evidence of a character's brutal murder is removed.

You're Next ("Looking For Magic" - Dwight Twilley Band)

Director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett are known for using comedy in their horror movies, including their otherwise brutal 2013 home invasion thriller, You're Next. Much of the humor comes from the ironic use of the Dwight Tilley Band's "Looking for Magic" in two scenes, due to one victim of the masked assassins putting the 1977 pop tune on repeat accidentally before his death.

Final Destination ("Rocky Mountain High" - John Denver)

The uplifting music of John Denver has been used for ironically dark purposes in several movies and the most iconic example comes from the first installment of the Final Destination movies. Any time "Rocky Mountain High" is heard in the 2000 teen thriller is a signal that Death is near.

Nope ("Fingertips" - Stevie Wonder)

To be fair, Stevie Wonder's "Fingertips" never actually appears in Jordan Peele's third feature, 2022's Nope. However, a remixed version of it provides an ominous aura for the alien invasion movie's trailer.

If you know me, you know I love horror. From the best horror movies to the best horror TV shows, I’m a massive lover of the genre, and will tend to tune in to anything (at least at first) to check it out and see if it’ll scare me. One show that has dipped up and down several times in quality over the last several years is American Horror Story.

The series premiered in 2011 and was a huge hit for FX at the time. To this day, it still manages a decent audience, but it’s not nearly as large as it once was—which makes sense, as I have always believed that the earlier seasons of American Horror Story were some of the best.

However, as the spooky season arrives and I am getting back into my fall-loving self, I decided to rewatch American Horror Story – and I have to admit, I’m starting to rethink my favorite seasons and how I’d rank everything – and maybe after hearing me out on some, you’ll be rethinking the show too in specific ways. Let’s get into it.

I Always Considered Freak Show And Murder House To Be My Favorites

As most tend to be with American Horror Story, for a long time, the first few seasons were my favorite. Murder House is the first, and Freak Show is the fourth. For the longest time, I held these in super high regard because they featured compact stories and excellent acting.

While Murder House ironically felt a lot more tame than Freak Show (both seasons find new ways to shock me even now), they both told excellent horror stories.

I also loved these seasons because they featured Jessica Lange, who was the star of the show before leaving after Freak Show. While I did like a lot of the other seasons that came after, a lot of them just didn’t hit as right without her there. Plenty of American Horror Story cast members have come and gone and spent several seasons playing different roles, but nothing ever hit quite as right as Lange and her four seasons.

Before I rewatched the entire series, this was my ranking:

1. Freak Show
2. Murder House
3. Asylum
4. Coven
5. 1984
6. Apocalypse
7. Hotel
8. Double Feature
9. Roanoke
10. Cult
11. NYC
12. Delicate

But two seasons on this list changed my ranking positions—and this shocked me more than I expected.

But Rewatching Made Me Appreciate Two Different Seasons Far More Than I Expected

If we’re being truthful, much of the above list hasn’t changed when it comes to later rankings. Delicate and NYC still stay dead-last because they just weren’t scary and had pretty forgettable plots. Roanoke is meh, and the first half of Double Feature was great, but the second is just… strange.

Hotel is excellent, really only for Lady Gaga and a great AHS Sarah Paulson performance. Apocalypse is a little better because it’s almost like a crossover with every season, which is fun. 1984 is a slash-fest that is a nice homage to the 1970s and 80s slasher pictures. And Asylum is arguably one of the best seasons in general, with a great cast and a fantastic AHS Evan Peters performance.

But truthfully… my rewatch made me love Coven and Cult a heck of a lot more. Like, a whole lot more.

I think I was so anti-Coven for a long time because it didn’t have the same vibe as the first two seasons. It was still good, but I never really took the time to appreciate it – and right now, it’s my favorite season. The sisterhood, the performances, the fashion, the setting of New Orleans – everything just works so well, and honestly, if this season was spun off into its own show, I would watch in a heartbeat.

Cult was an interesting one for me. Truthfully, I watched Cult during a time when the country was very divided, and it felt a little too real for me, but upon rewatching it for the first time, I find myself really enjoying it because of the parallels to what happened in real life.

For those who didn't see it, Cult takes place after the election of President Donald Trump, and follows a cult that terrorizes residents of a neighborhood. There are no ghosts or freaky creatures -- just the pure scariness of humans and how a hive-mindset is dangerous. While Cult takes it to an extreme level, it clearly seems inspired by real life.

And honestly, I’m ranking it a lot higher now in this new ranking:

I know, I know, I might get hate for putting Cult above Asylum, but when I rewatched the show, I realize just how similar some of the moments are in that iteration to today.

Rewatching The Show Has Changed My Perspective On Later Iterations - But Nothing Quite Beats The Earlier Seasons

There are some later seasons of American Horror Story that are great—like Cult. Rewatching it seriously opened my mind a lot more to the idea that this series can still be very original, and it makes me look forward to Season 13 whenever that comes out.

However, I have to admit that nothing beats the earlier seasons in terms of quality. Cult is great, but until we get that same feeling of utter terror and horror, I don’t think any season of AHS will pass Coven, Freak Show, or Murder House.

Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe Season 13 will be the one that changes everything. But until then, I’ll stick with my ranking – and enjoy every second of it.

I have watched American Horror Story for years. The latest season has come out as part of the 2024 TV premiere schedule, and while I don’t think it was nearly as gory as some of the other seasons, it was still enjoyable to watch. However, if you’re like me, and you’ve been watching American Horror Story since the very beginning, you and I both know that there’s no cap to the shock level of this franchise. 

Seriously. I’m the kind of person who loves the best horror movies out there or the best horror TV shows, but sometimes, this series finds new ways to shock even me – a young woman who has spent most of her life desensitized to mindless violence. And today, I’m going to scar you too – hooray!

The Blood As Moisturizer (AHS: Coven)

So, I will be the first to say that I think American Horror Story: Coven is the absolute best season of American Horror Story, and I will stand by that to this day. As a Harry Potter lover but also just a nerd when it comes to all things witchy, I was living my best life when the third season focused on witchcraft. 

But it definitely has its moments of pure creepiness, and that, my friends, starts with Delphine LaLaurie (Kathy Bates), who uses the sacrifices of her Black slaves and their blood as a moisturizer. Why, might you ask? Because of some superstitious attempt to keep her skin youthful and fresh. It’s horrifying in every way possible.

Nail Gun To The Head (AHS: Cult)

You know, I think I blocked out American Horror Story: Cult because it was coming out during such a volatile time of American history, but rewatching it now, yeah, this season is messed up. And this is one of those moments that got me. 

Cult members are tested on their allegiance when they are forced to use a nail gun on R.J., but it turns out it takes a lot of nails to kill someone. So we just sit there for ages, watching someone get repeatedly nailed in the head. Good god, I’m getting nauseous just thinking about it. 

That Demon In The AHS: Hotel Premiere (AHS: Hotel)

Look, man, I’m all for living your life and being with whoever you want and doing what you want, but this scene in American Horror Story: Hotel was just… disgusting. When a junkie gets high in the hotel, a waxy, disgusting demon-like creature appears and sexually assaults him with a dildo that happens to have a drill. 

Yeah… I really don’t think AHS has topped this in a long time. And I don’t want to think about it anymore. 

When Lana Gives Herself An Abortion (AHS: Asylum)

In terms of Sarah Paulson’s best characters on AHS, this is one of her best. Lana is assaulted while in Briarcliff, and she becomes pregnant. This is the '60s, and she’s already being held captive, and the man who attacked her is quite possibly the worst human alive. She feels she has no choice. 

So she decides to take drastic measures and use a coat hanger to force an abortion because she can’t get the help that she needs. It’s a gruesome scene and painful to watch, and even more so, knowing that it’s because the resources were not available to aid her. 

Maggie Getting Cut In Half (AHS: Freak Show)

Emma Roberts has appeared in many seasons of American Horror Story as a cast member, and one of her best characters was Maggie in AHS: Freak Show. Maggie is a fake fortune teller who falls into this world. 

She winds up becoming a volunteer for a magic trick that turns bloody after she is sawed in half, but at that point, no one helps her because she has already tricked a lot of the freaks at the freak show. It’s still a gory and disgusting scene that was probably one of the most creepy so far. 

Violet Discovers Her Death (AHS: Murder House)

The first season of American Horror Story, otherwise known as Murder House, feels tame in comparison to many of the others. But you want to know what wasn’t tame? Violet finding her own dead body. 

I think what shocked me was just the way it was delivered – none of us knew she was dead until that moment, and it all came so quickly. And when we finally saw her corpse, covered in webs and bugs and all things disgusting, it certainly made you squirm and never want to watch the show again. But of course, we keep going. 

Elsa’s Legs Are Cut (AHS: Freak Show)

American Horror Story: Freak Show is disgusting in many ways, but I do think that having Elsa as a character was great because she had a very, very interesting past. Not only was she a dominatrix, but she revealed a vulnerable part about her – that she lost both her legs in a torture porn video. 

It’s a horrible moment that makes you feel bad for the woman, but it also made me truly question what the heck I was watching because it was so horrible.

Xavier Gets Roasted (AHS: 1984)

Ah, there’s nothing quite like watching someone get roasted alive. American Horror Story: 1984 reminds me of many slasher films of the past, and this moment, where Xavier is roasted in an oven, is pretty gruesome. 

You’d think the show couldn’t get more bloody, but it does, and I don’t even want to think about how it leads to this because I’m getting grossed out. Blech. 

The Guinea Pig’s Death (AHS: Cult)

I can’t get into this too much because it will genuinely upset me, but in American Horror Story: Cult, a guinea pig that is so sweet and innocent is in a house, but someone winds up putting the damn guinea pig in a microwave. 

And they microwave it. And it explodes. 

The sound…

Yeah, I don’t think I’ve ever fully recovered from this, and I genuinely hope you never experience this either. 

The Minotaur Sex (AHS: Coven)

American Horror Story: Coven has some fantastic characters that end up in fascinating and strange storylines. One of those happens to be Gabourey Sidibe’s character, Queenie, having sex with a minotaur. 

Yes, you read that right. Things get kinky very quickly, and it’s a moment where I genuinely turned to my mom and asked, “Is this okay to put on TV?” Because even now, I still don’t know. But here we are.

There are probably many other moments I could point out, but these were just some that truly still shock me to this day, and maybe the next season of American Horror Story will find some new disgusting way to make me squirm. 

Three are a lot of places around the world that have become famous for being set locations or exterior shots from television shows. From restaurants, to prisons, to houses, to everything in between. These are just a few of these now-famous locations everyone recognizes from their favorite shows. 

Tom's Restaurant - Seinfeld

In virtually every episode of Seinfeld, the gang met up at Monk's Diner. The interiors were a set, of course, but all the exterior shots for Monk's were of Tom's Restaurant at the corner of Broadway and 112th Street in New York City. The cast of Seinfeld is enshrined in caricatures on the wall. One more fun fact about the eatery, it was also the restaurant that inspired the song "Tom's Diner" by Suzanne Vega. 

Highclere Castle - Downton Abbey

Grand houses dot the English countryside, many of which are quite famous for their ornate beauty. One house now stands out from the rest, Highclere Castle in Hampshire. As hardcore fans of Downton Abbey know, not only was it used for the exterior of the house, but many of the interiors, including the iconic library, were used in the production. 

The Painted Ladies - Full House

San Francisco was once home to thousands of grand Victorian homes, though many were destroyed by the earthquake in 1906. A notable row that survived across from Alamo Square Park is famously known as "The Painted Ladies" and is a big tourist destination for fans of Full House after they featured prominently in the show. 

Police Beach - Lost

The mysterious island in Lost was in actually many filming locations across Oahu in Hawaii. One of the most famous locations is known as Papailoa Beach or Police Beach. It is located on the North Shore and was used a lot in the show as the spot where the plane crashed and where the survivors lived for a time. 

94 Bedford Street - Friends

94 Bedford Street, at the corner of Grove and Bedford, has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in New York City. Not because anyone famous has lived there, but because that's the building used for the exterior shots of where most of the characters on Friends lived.

St. Michael's Mount - House Of The Dragon

St. Michael's Mount in southeast England is less famous than its cousin, Mont-Saint-Michel in France, but they are very similar monasteries. Both were built on little spits of land surrounded by a tidal area that leaves them completely separated from the mainland much of the time. St. Michael's Mount serves as the exterior for Driftmark, the seat of House Velaryon in House Of The Dragon.

Salish Lodge & Spa - Twin Peaks

On Twin Peaks, one of the most prominent locations is The Great Northern Inn, where Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) lives during his time in the town investigating the murder of Laura Palmer. The exterior of the hotel, located above a beautiful waterfall, is actually the Salish Lodge & Spa in Snoqualmie, WA.

The Bull & Finch Pub - Cheers

Tourists in Boston are often startled to see the exterior of Cheers as they walk around the Public Garden at the foot of Beacon Hill. The famous bar from Cheers was once called The Bull & Finch Pub and has been in that spot since the late '60s. In the early '00s, the owners changed the name to Cheers. 

Pasadena City Hall - Parks And Recreation

Parks & Recreation may be set in the town of Pawnee, Indiana, but the exterior shots of the City Hall on the show were filmed much closer to where the show was actually filmed in LA. The building is, in fact, the City of Pasadena's City Hall. A far cry from rural Indiana, but these days the building is more famous for being in a fictional TV town in the Hoosier state than the City of Roses. 

Richmond, London - Ted Lasso

A little alley in Richmond, London, has become one of the most visited tourist spots in a town chock-full of great tourist spots. That's because it served as the exterior to Coach Lasso's apartment in Ted Lasso. The pub nearby was also one of the most-used shooting locations for the show and fans of the hilarious show have been flocking ever since. 

The Belnord - Only Murders In The Building

There are a few famous apartment buildings on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, including The Belnord. The grand building is one of the most prominent of all, especially now as it serves as the titular building in Only Murders In The Building starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. It's located at 86th St. and Amsterdam.

Dubrovnik Harbor - Game Of Thrones

HBO's Game of Thrones made quite a few locations around the world famous, and while the city of Dubrovnik, Croatia was already famous among historians, it entered popular culture in a big way when it was the stand-in for King's Landing throughout many episodes of the show. There is a little harbor on the city's west coast that was one of the locations used in some of the most famous scenes.  

The Waybury Inn - Newhart

In Newhart Dick Loudon (Bob Newhart) and his wife Joanna (Mary Frann) moved to Vermont to run the Stratford Inn. The real-life Stratford Inn is actually The Waybury Inn in Middlebury Vermont. And yes, it's still a hotel, and you can still stay there. 

Ranger's House - Bridgerton

The stately home of the Bridgerton family in Bridgerton is, in fact, called Ranger's House. Built in 1722 in what is now London, it's located near Greenwich Park, just a couple hundred yards from the famous Royal Observatory, Greenwich, which was where time was set for the world for centuries, but it is now a museum. 

Mr. Beef - The Bear

Chicago is famous for a lot of different foods. Pizza and hot dogs are probably the two most people think of first. Or at least, they used to. After the wild success of The Bear, one of the best shows on Hulu, the Windy City is increasingly famous for Italian Beef sandwiches, like the ones served at Mr. Beef. The small eatery stood in for The Beef on the show. 

15 Washington Street, Brooklyn - Gossip Girl

Located basically under the Manhattan Bridge in the Dumbo neighborhood, 15 Washington Street has become iconic for its use as the exterior of the Humphrey loft in Gossip Girl. 

Bell Works, Holmdel, NJ - Severance

The Bell Works building in Holmdel, NJ was locally famous for decades before the Apple TV+ show Severance made it famous everywhere. Long a favorite in architectural circles, the building, designed by Eero Saarinen, was the R&D headquarters for Bell Labs for decades starting in the early '60s. It is a perfect building to house the mysterious Lumon Industries on the show.  

Chief Joseph Ranch - Yellowstone

Some terrible things have gone down on the Dutton Yellowstone Ranch in Yellowstone. It has to be the most violent place in all of Montana, in the context of the show. Luckily, the real ranch where it is filmed, Chief Joseph Ranch is like it in looks only. It's a guest ranch and fans of the show can even stay there. Just try not to murder anyone. 

Holsten’s Brookdale Confectionary - The Sopranos

One of the most controversial and possibly one of the best endings of a show in TV history took place at Holsten’s Brookdale Confectionery in Bloomfield, NJ. The Sopranos ended when Meadow walked through the door of the diner and the screen went black. Did Tony die or didn't he? The arguments will last forever, an argument you could have over some onion rings at Holsten's.

Twisters Restaurant - Breaking Bad

A Twisters Restaurant in Albuquerque, NM is better known to Breaking Bad fans as Los Pollos Hermanos. The chain restaurant location on Isleta Boulevard in Albuquerque was re-dressed as Los Pollos Hermanos for the show and its spinoff Better Call Saul. 

Speedy’s Cafe - Sherlock

221B Baker Street is one of the most famous addresses in literary history as the home of Sherlock Holmes. On the BBC show Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, the flat is located next door to a cafe called Speedy's. Not only is the restaurant's exterior featured on the show, but the interior is shown on occasion, such as when Watson (Freeman) meets with Mycroft (Mark Gatiss). 

Senoia, Georgia - The Walking Dead

Senoia, Georgia is a small unassuming town on the far southwest edge of the Atlanta metro area. It's a quaint, picturesque southern town that is not a hotbed for tourism by fans of The Walking Dead as it became the setting for the settlement of Alexandria on the show. 

Buckingham Fountain - Married... With Children

The Buckingham Fountain in the heart of Grant Park in Chicago has long been a local landmark in The Windy City. When it was used in the opening moments of the credits on Fox's Married... With Children, it became a national landmark, recognized the world over. Along with having one of the most famous musicians ever singing the theme song, Frank Sinatra, it became an iconic opening. 

Mystic Grill - The Vampire Diaries

The real Mystic Grill is located in Covington, GA, and has become a must-see location for fans of The Vampire Diaries. It pre-existed the show and looks pretty much identical to what fans remember from the beloved show. 

Frist Campus Center - House

Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, where Dr. Gregory House torments his residents and his patients on House isn't actually a hospital at all. The famous exteriors are actually of the Frist Campus Center on the campus of Princeton University. The building is also famous for Room 302, where Albert Einstein lectured when he was a professor at the school. 

Torrance High School - Beverly Hills, 90210

Without a doubt, Torrance High School in Torrance, CA, is one of the most recognizable locations in television history. It was the setting for West Beverly High on Beverly Hills, 90210, but that's not all. It was also the stand-in for Sunnydale High on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Ulysses S. Grant High School in The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and it was used in movies like She's All That, Not Another Teen Movie, and Bruce Almighty, among others. 

Waterfords' House - The Handmaid's Tale

In The Handmaid’s Tale, the Waterfords live in Boston, but the mansion used for the exterior shots of their home is actually in Hamilton, Ontario, near Toronto. Like other houses featured in shows, it's become a popular place for selfies, but do you really want to memorialize that house after everything awful that happened inside it? 

Rosenheim Mansion - American Horror Story

The stately Rosenheim Mansion in Los Angeles has a look that is just perfect for horror stories. Most notably, it was used in American Horror Story. It's also been featured in other creepy shows like The Twilight Zone, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The X-Files, and Dexter. Yikes! 

Franklin Square House Apartments - St. Elsewhere

The exterior of St. Eligius Hospital, the fictional hospital in the critically acclaimed '80s show St Elsewhere is actually an apartment building called Franklin Square House Apartments, in Boston's South End, where the hospital was also set. The show launched quite a few careers, including Howie Mandel's and Denzel Washington's, and like their careers, the apartment building is still around today. 

1618 Pine St., Boulder Colorado - Mork & Mindy

If you find yourself in Boulder, CO, and are a fan of Mork & Mindy, you can take a selfie in front of their apartment. The exterior used is a house that still stands on  Pine St., near the middle of town. 

Old Joliet Prison - Prison Break

If you close your eyes and picture a classic American prison, you'll probably see something that looks a lot like the old Joliet Prison in Joliet, IL. For that reason, the now-closed prison has been a popular shooting location over the years. Not only does it serve as the exterior of the jail in Prison Break, but it's also where Jake Blues (John Belushi) is released from in The Blues Brothers, and has been in numerous other movies and TV shows. 

Cincinnati Enquirer Building - WKRP In Cincinnati

Though it was really only used in the opening credits and very occasionally in the show, the studio for the fictitious radio station WKRP from the hit '70s sitcom in the Cincinnati Enquirer Building, located in downtown Cincinnati. When you're in town, you can pretend all your favorite DJs and intrepid reporter Les Nessman are hard at work in the building. 

There were some strong opinions when Kim Kardashian made her acting debut last year on American Horror Story: Delicate. While not everyone was impressed, the reality star garnered enough positive feedback for her portrayal of witchy publicist Siobhan Corbyn that she’s now got several coals in the Hollywood fire. The role seemed tailor-made for Kardashian, too, as Siobhan was dripping with momager Kris Jenner vibes. However, it turns out Kim had drawn her inspiration from a different member of the Kardashian-Jenner dynasty — her older sister Kourtney.

Kim Kardashian talked all things Ryan Murphy when she sat down with Chloë Sevigny for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, even giving her opinion on David Schwimmer’s portrayal of her dad Robert Kardashian Sr. on The People v. O.J. Simpson. When it came to her own performance on AHS’ 12th season, it wasn’t her mother who informed Kim’s acting choices, but rather, Kourtney Kardashian. Kim said: 

It seemed like a no-brainer. Kim Kardashian played Siobhan Corbyn as a P.R. machine, unwilling to take no for an answer, ready to go to any lengths to let Emma Roberts’ Anna Victoria Alcott know that she was “doing amazing, sweetie!” Siobhan was also harboring a few secrets of her own, so it’s no surprise that reviews of the American Horror Story: Delicate premiere said Kim was the perfect choice for the Kris Jenner homage.

Kim Kardashian said in hindsight she understands why everyone saw her mom in that performance, but looking back even at her very first scene, it’s not that hard to see shades of Kourtney Kardashian there too. The delivery of her vulgar first line, followed by the exasperated realization that, “It’s exhausting being better than everyone,” could definitely be an attitude that Kim’s seen in her older sister, particularly during the fiery fight we saw play out on The Kardashians (available to stream with a Hulu subscription).

American Horror Story was Kim Kardashian’s first time working with Ryan Murphy, but it won’t be her last. In December, Murphy received a series commitment from Hulu for an as-yet-untitled legal drama starring Kim Kardashian as a powerful divorce attorney. This time around she’ll be looking outside her family for inspiration, though her muse is someone she’s still pretty close to. She told Chloë Sevigny: 

Divorce attorney to the stars Laura Wasser has worked with Kim Kardashian to end two of her three marriages, so it will be interesting to see how the reality TV queen pulls from those experiences in that role. In the meantime, you can stream American Horror Story and The Kardashians on Hulu, and be sure to see what else is new and coming soon to Hulu. 

American Horror Story: Delicate has returned to FX for Part II of the nightmare that is Anna Victoria Alcott’s pregnancy. That means that Kim Kardashian is gracing us with more of her acting prowess, as she jumps back into her publicist persona, Siobhan Corbyn, and it looks like she’s going to play a pretty huge role in the horror series’ upcoming episodes. To celebrate the series’ return, Kim Kardashian posted some behind-the-scenes pics, angering fans who thought she revealed spoilers. However, it turns out no script secrets were spilled, as Siobhan’s witchy ways were already revealed in the trailer.

Many fans thought The Kardashians star had given away an important plot point when she posted photos to Instagram showing her character being transformed into a Maleficent-looking witch. Check out her post below: 

While American Horror Story: Delicate viewers were wary of Siobhan’s intentions with Anna in Part I, she so far has been depicted as way more than just a publicist to Emma Roberts’ character. She’s a best friend and confidante. Also, apparently a witch, if this elaborate headpiece is any indication. 

People were quick to hit up the comments on the social media post to accuse the SKIMS boss of dishing out spoilers, writing:

Other commenters argued that it really wasn’t a spoiler, since most viewers assumed Kim Kardashian’s character would take a villainous turn, but I’d have to disagree with that logic, because having suspicions confirmed is still spoiling. 

Rather, the reason that the reality star is innocent of any crimes against television is that the preview already showed Siobhan in the costume in question. Kardashian fully embraced her heel turn in the face-slapping, neck-snapping trailer, which you can see below: 

Siobhan actually tells Anna in the trailer that she’s “so much worse” than a monster, while clearly wearing the crow-feathered headpiece. And that’s after she slapped the bejesus out of her friend in the middle of a restaurant. 

Of course, some fans like to go into a season or episode without having watched any previews, and for those people, yes, Kim Kardashian’s Instagram would have been the source of them learning about Siobhan’s true colors. But if FX revealed as much in the trailer, it’s probably safe to say that there are even more twists still to come.

American Horror Story’s return comes amid other big news for the budding actress. Just a few months after announcing she will produce and star in a Netflix comedy The 5th Wheel by Paula Pell, she landed a role in an untitled thriller for Amazon MGM. Her family’s reality show is also set to premiere its fifth season on May 23. For now, though, you can continue to catch her on AHS: Delicate Part II, which airs at 10 p.m. ET Wednesdays on FX. Episodes can also be streamed with a Hulu subscription.  

For the first time in its lengthy TV history, FX’s annual anthological frightfest was required to split its season in half due to Hollywood strikes, but American Horror Story: Delicate Part 2 is on the way, and we now have a bunch of new footage to obsess over. And it’s indeed obsession-worthy for bringing Kim Kardashian to the spotlight as what appears to be this season’s true antagonist. Siobhan Corbyn, we hardly knew ye. 

Check out the footage below to see Kardashian’s character settling in for an unexpected kiss with Emma Roberts’ Anna Alcott, followed by a brutal face slap, as well as more villainous machinations. I am 100% here for the mogul embracing her Maleficent phase. 

As it went for the first half of AHS: Delicate’s season, this trailer is all about making the pregnant and hyper-anxious Anna even more stressed out about everything in her life, but most importantly the potential monster growing inside her. But while the earlier episodes played more heavily into the possibility that all of the chaos in Anna’s life was the product of her own paranoid imagination, the trailer throws such ambiguity out with the wash. (Which is fine for the wash, since all that blood wasn’t going to come out anyway.)

For all that I’m digging the new footage, I wasn’t exactly too surprised to see that SKIMS founder taking on a larger role as the season went on, considering she didn’t have all that much to do early on. To the point where some of us at CinemaBlend were not sold on Kim Kardashian’s acting. But maybe we can just blame that on the character herself trying to play it too cool without revealing her malicious intentions.

But hard to hide any such intentions while wearing this, unless you put them under that hat or something.

Considering how little other members of the AHS: Delicate cast are seen in the promo, save for the other presumed antagonist played by Cara Delevingne, one can only assume that this trifecta of females will be core to the story when the show returns. 

It should be good to see more outside-the-box acting from Kim Kardashian in the back half, seeing as how her acting career has exploded quite a bit since American Horror Story twelfth season began. First, she signed on to star in Netflix comedy The Fifth Wheel alongside Girls5Eva co-star Paula Pell, then she gained some kudos for her SKIMS commercial, and most recently landed an untitled thriller for Amazon MGM.

I say this because, for as much as I love watching the greatest horror movies whenever I get the chance, I often find myself disappointed that the story has to end, forcing me to choose the next feature on my own.

The Twilight Zone (1959-1964)

Black Mirror (2011-Present)

Tales From The Crypt (1989-1996)

The skeletal, pun-spewing Crypt Keeper (voiced by Jon Kassir) presents the viewer with a star-studded gallery of stories that range from hilarious to horrific and a mix of both.

Slasher (2016-Present)

Castle Rock (2018-2019)

A lawyer (played by Andre Holland) defends a strange man (played by Bill Skarsgård) recently freed from a secret, decades-long captivity in his hometown in Maine, where, later, a nurse and single mother (played by Lizzy Caplan) makes a deadly decision that sets off a shocking series of events.

Why it is a great horror anthology TV show: Each season of one of the best horror TV shows on Hulu, Castle Rock, tells a different story set in the same titular community that takes inspiration from the works of Stephen King, with some of the author’s most famous characters being directly involved or cheekily referenced.

I was once like you – stuck in my never-ending sadness that the show I once called my Roman Empire had ended; my love, my life, my Supernatural brothers, Dean and Sam, who I followed for almost way too many of my teenage and young adult years. But then 2020 came around, and one of the best CW shows ended, which also ended me. 

Okay, now that I'm not being so dramatic, Supernatural ended after fifteen seasons in 2020, ending the story of the Winchester brothers and their paranormal and deadly interactions with the unknown and beyond. If you've been missing shows that have a similar vibe, or have monsters, or are just witchy in general, we have you covered. Here are some great shows like Supernatural. 

The Winchesters (2022 – 2023)

Starring Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly (Jensen Ackles guests as the narrator), The Winchesters is a prequel series to Supernatural, telling the story behind John Winchester and how he met his wife, Mary Campbell, and their time hunting monsters together. 

Look, The Winchesters isn't perfect. It goes against much of what the original show made canon, and the practical effects can sometimes be a little goofy. But it's the same universe and tone, and there's a lot to love in the few episodes it has if you're looking for more lore for the show. There's only one season (The Winchesters was cancelled), so you might as well check it out.

The X-Files (1993 – 2018)

The sci-fi drama, The X-Files, stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. It tells the story of two FBI agents who look into "X-Files," cases that involve the unknown, all while discovering conspiracies that change their lives forever. 

The X-Files is one of the most successful shows ever, running for several seasons, spawning movies, and more. Mulder and Scully are the way to go if you're looking for an iconic partnership with vibes similar to Sam and Dean's in their banter. There's plenty of supernatural fun to go around.

Walker (2021 – Present)

Starring Jared Padalecki, Walker is a reboot of the series Walker, Texas Ranger, and follows the story of Cordell Walker, a man trying to solve a high-profile case while also trying to heal his family at the same time. 

If you miss the Supernatural cast, Walker is great for you because Jared Padalecki (who played Sam) is the star and does a great job as the leading man. Clearly, the show has done well, because it's been renewed for a fourth season. It's a simple show compared to the others on this list, but great.

Lucifer (2016 – 2021)

Oh, Lucifer is a great one. This show is all about Lucifer Morningstar (based on the DC Comics character) and how he gets bored of running hell and decides to open a nightclub in L.A., but somehow gets pulled into working for the police department. 

If you like smooth-talking men who practically weaponize sarcasm and smirking, then Lucifer, played by Tom Ellis, is your guy. In just this one man, you will be reminded of Sam and Dean from Supernatural in every way possible. Throw that in with supernatural concepts, and it's a great show.

Grimm (2011 – 2017)

If you're looking for a police procedural series, Grimm is the one for you. It follows a homicide detective who discovers he has the power of a Grimm, a line of guardians meant to protect humans from mythical creatures. 

The premise makes Grimm sound much more dramatic than it is, but in reality, it's a great fantasy drama rooted in reality and has some funny moments that tie it all together. Every season has brand new mysteries with a compelling plot, and it's great for fans of Supernatural who want a good, complex story.

The Magicians (2015 – 2020)

Based on the novel of the same name, The Magicians was a Syfy series that told the story of students who attended a private and secret magic school. Still, as the world of sorcery begins to open up more to them, they discover there are much more dangerous foes than they were ever expecting. 

Fans of Supernatural will love the Magicians cast and how well they bounce off each other, giving outstanding performances throughout. There's still plenty more to love about this series, from the magical creatures you encounter to the spells used. There are only five seasons, so it would be a nice binge to finish the entire series.

Charmed (1998 – 2006)

I have to put Charmed on this list; it's a must. This series follows three sisters known as good witches, the Charmed Ones, whose primary goal is to protect the world from evil beings trying to take over, from warlocks and demons to other mysterious creatures, all while trying to live everyday lives. 

Charmed comes from the CW (formerly the WB), so it has many of the same vibes as Supernatural with its stories. The Charmed cast is charming (pun intended), and this show lasted for eight seasons, so you know it was popular.

Stranger Things (2016 – Present)

Stranger Things is one of the most popular Netflix shows ever. The series initially follows a group of young boys who make it their mission to find their friend, Will Byers, who has gone missing, only for them to run into a strange little girl who changes their lives forever. 

What can I say about Stranger Things that has yet to be said? Like Supernatural, there are plenty of monsters and crazy moments for you to enjoy, but you'll end up loving the Stranger Things cast and, even more so, the heart poured into this show. It's undoubtedly one of the best shows to binge-watch on Netflix, and Stranger Things Season 5 is coming.

American Horror Story (2011 – Present)

For fans of Supernatural, I have to put American Horror Story. This series, created by Ryan Murphy, follows a new gruesome horror tale each season, from the ghosts that haunt an old house to witches who reside in New Orleans. 

If you like Supernatural, you'll most likely enjoy AHS for the monsters, modern setting (in most seasons), and the crazy amount of American Horror Story cast members. It's undoubtedly a great pick, and with each season having a different story, there's always something new to enjoy.

Wynonna Earp (2016 – 2021)

Last but not least, we have Wynonna Earp. Based on the comic of the same name, Wynonna Earp follows a young woman who inherits the power to return revenants, which are reincarnated outlaws that her great-great-grandfather killed, to the afterworld. She returns to her hometown to do so, running into trouble as she does. 

For fans of Supernatural, you'll love Wynonna Earp as a character. She's badass and funny and somehow takes down every conflict she runs into without losing who she is. There's a lot to love about the side characters, who somehow win you over as much as Wynonna does.

These are just some of the great options available for fans of Supernatural, and now I feel the need to binge-watch Stranger Things to prepare for Season 5 – and maybe to get over missing Sam and Dean. 

Kim Kardashian made her major acting debut back in September, when she joined the cast of American Horror Story: Delicate, co-starring as the cutthroat publicist Siobhan Corbyn opposite Emma Roberts. After many viewers were pleasantly surprised with Kardashian’s campy performance, it looks like the reality TV star is looking to add more acting roles to her resume. In fact, her newest project will take her from the small screen to the movies, as she’s teaming up with Paula Pell for a new comedy titled The 5th Wheel.

Not only is Kim Kardashian set to star in The 5th Wheel, she’ll join Paula Pell as a producer of the movie, Deadline reports. It will definitely be interesting to see how the reality star’s acting chops translate from FX’s horror TV series to funny films, and apparently the studios are intrigued as well. Five studios are reportedly battling for the flick, with multiple bids on the table. 

The Kardashians star has been pretty hands-on through the whole process, the site reports, noting that she's been present at the pitch meetings. The 5th Wheel is a female-driven comedy to be scripted by Paula Pell and Janine Brito. Pell is a veteran writer for Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock who has also shown off her comedic skills on-screen in titles like Girls5Eva, A.P. Bio and the movie Wine Country. Brito, who is married to Pell, has written on series including Bless the Harts and One Day at a Time, in addition to also making several guest appearances.

Kim Kardashian faced her fair share of critics when she decided to make the leap from reality TV to scripted television. Acting veteran Patti LuPone — who has appeared in multiple Ryan Murphy projects, including several seasons of AHS — even accused Kardashian of taking roles away from actors. 

However, this jump to the big screen shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, especially to viewers of The Kardashians, who on the current season have seen Kim Kardashian pulling late hours to meet with an acting coach. She even teased her movie star ambitions when discussing the backlash of her American Horror Story: Delicate casting. The SKIMS boss apparently reached out to Salma Hayek after people suggested the part of Siobhan should have gone to the Magic Mike’s Last Dance star. Kardashian recalled: 

Not everyone was sold on the reality star’s acting, but Kim Kardashian does seem to have the support of her “idol” Salma Hayek, so it sounds like she’s full-speed-ahead on that movie career. We’ll have to see if her dream pairing ever materializes on screen. 

While we’re also waiting for more details about The 5th Wheel, fans still have Part 2 of American Horror Story: Delicate to look forward to in the new year, as well as a number of other upcoming horror TV shows. Following its vastly improved second season, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s spinoff anthology American Horror Stories is set to deliver a spooky third season of WTF-ery to audiences as part of his year’s Huluween festivities, with its four all-new episodes streaming all at once with a Hulu subscription in the days ahead of Halloween’s arrival. To get audiences all riled up in the most enjoyably off-putting ways, the American Horror Story spinoff dropped a trio of posters that aim to tickle your disturbing bone, which is the one locked in the attic above the funny bone.

As opposed to the weekly drops of past years, American Horror Stories changed the schedule up to better utilize the four Season 3 episodes that had finished filming before strikes brought all but a few TV productions to a halt. The three new posters below bring the total to four so far, so does that perhaps indicate that each one is specifically representing a different episode? 

Let’s take a closer look at the new looks, though obviously from behind slightly spread-apart fingers.

We-e-e-ell, I can’t find anything comfortable or comforting within that particular promo imagery. Nothing about this half-woman’s overly prominent skeletal structure makes me feel good about anything in life. And I don’t think she’d be able to hold herself up with those all-bone arms, but that’s a different conversation.

So what the shit is happening here? Is this creature one-half starving woman, and one-half otherworldly snake? The eyes are giving “what if Godzilla, but also cat?” while the teeth come straight out of my nightmares, and at least one of those drool droplets also comes from that same nightmare thatch. On the flip side, is this perhaps an emaciated mermaid whose extremely long tail suddenly grows a terror-mouth? That one seems less likely, but hardly impossible in the world of AHS’ creepiest monsters. 

And what exactly is happening here? A woman with clown-ish makeup is somehow being sucked into her computer screen, which simultaneously has a freaky-looking creature coming out of it. Is everyone else thinking what I’m thinking? Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!

Ew. That’s not a real thought. But this seems to imply that at least one episode will feature some tech-related mayhem of the most haunted variety. Am I the only one who is getting Infantata vibes from that ghoulishness coming out of the screen? It may just be the blacked-out eyes, but now I’m all in on this being the — wait for it — Internetfantata. 

Another discomforting image from the American Horror Stories team, and one that feels like it could have also stood in for AHS: Delicate, or perhaps as a mirror reflection of that plot. Whereas that season is focused on something potentially evil growing inside a seemingly innocent woman, this image appears to show a possibly not-so-kind creature whose body encapsulates someone trying to escape. A person bursting out of an alien, instead of the other way around, would be a fun spin. 

Because that’s probably an alien’s figure, right? The sleek head, long neck, protruding shoulders and hourglass body shape indicate something slightly inhuman, even though nothing is too extreme in that way. Except for the whole body inside the body thing. A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2, anyone?

Amidst other upcoming horror TV shows, American Horror Stories will make its Huluween streaming debut on Hulu on Thursday, October 26.

Spoilers below for the latest episode of American Horror Story, so be warned if you haven’t yet watched!

We’re three episodes into American Horror Story: Delicate, and I cannot tell you how many times I have wanted to throw Matt Czuchry’s Dexter Harding through the closest window or wall. I can’t exactly say I’m having fun trying to suss out who is and isn’t a cog within Anna’s descent into assisted madness, but the constant time-gaps and questionable reality definitely add a weird sense of urgency to each nerve-grinding sequence. Thankfully, “When the Bough Breaks” offered up a moment of levity involving Kendall Jenner’s cucumber fiasco, as well as a presumably intentional callback reference to Evan Peters’ AHS: Cult character and Cody Fern's Apocalypse antagonist.

As soon as Kim Kardashian landed a role in American Horror Story, it was inevitable that Delicate would bring in few elements from the entrepreneur’s real life into the hyper-dramatized world of The Kardashi…I mean, of AHS. Episode 3 delivered arguably the most logical one possible for a show that features knives as a go–to prop: Kendall Jenner’s infamous cucumber-cutting snafu. (It doesn’t hurt that both the reality series and the horror anthology share Hulu as a go-to streaming home.)

Thankfully, the nod wasn’t anything too broad or universe-breaking, with Kim Kardashian’s Shioban chopping up some cukes (and smiling about it) while talking to Emma Roberts’ Anna. To anyone who wasn’t already aware of the incident, which Jenner has self-awarely poked fun at herself, it might have just seemed like a random scene action. But those aware definitely clocked it as soon as the cutting board made it into the shot.

AHS: Delicate's Callback To Cult And Apocalypse

Just as the cucumber-chopping faux pas was a pretty specific instance to reference, the episode’s other callback moment appeared to be a direct nod to American Horror Story: Cult, and came during the trippy scene when Anna wandered off and was temporarily held captive by the Feathered Weirdos in Black. (Copyright pending.) As they were strapping her down and doing all their weird shit to her, they were repeating the following chant, along with rough translations:

AHS fans' ears likely perked up when hearing "Ave Satanas," as a version of that has come up at least twice so far within this franchise. For one, it was used in Cult's fifth episode by Evan Peters' Kai Anderson as a mantra for his gang of murderous asshats to use in stoking satanic panic and further chaos in the outside world. In Apocalypse, Cody Fern's Michael Langdon uttered the phrase as he was getting his blood-bath on.

To be fair, the phrase "Ave Satanas" is a fairly simple one, and would't be out of place in American Horror Story: Delicate even if it wasn't a callback reference, given the palpable Rosemary's Baby vibes of it all. But AHS doesn't tend to repeat itself in such ways without it serving as connective tissue between seasons. But what could it mean?

The One Grand Hope here is that Sarah Paulson's Ally Mayfair-Richards came away from Cult's finale as the leader of empowered women, and that they're the ones behind the wicked shit happening to Anna. Although it would probably take some kind of team-up with an actual antichrist to steer Ally so that "Ave Satanas" is more than just a phrase, which is obviously where Michael Langdon would come in. I think we can agree it doesn't matter whether or not it fits the canon we know, since Ryan Murphy & Co. could reframe the entire timeline if they wanted. 

So I dunno if I feel comfortable betting any money (or my soul) on Ally being the ringleader behind it all, since it's kind of a stretch. (Especially since Paulson isn't even rumored to have returned in any capacity, at least before the strikes caused filming to stop.) But it sure would be great to see Cody Fern back in this world, amirite?

It’s officially fall, which means that there’s a new season of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series American Horror Story airing on FX. This season is titled Delicate, and features a number of familiar faces from the show’s history. But there’s also some newcomers like Kim Kardashian. AHS: Delicate is here, but I’m not sold on Kardashian’s acting. 

We’re only a few episodes into Delicate, so the show’s overall plot is still being established. But Kim Kardashian’s Siobhan Corbyn has been heavily featured, with the reality TV icon given some truly wild dialogue. Twitter seems to be going gaga over Kim’s acting chops so far, so I feel like an outlier. It’s just not landing for me.

To clarify, I’m not a hater of the Kardashian empire, and watch plenty of reality TV myself. And as such, Kim still has the ability to win me over as we get deeper into this season of American Horror Story. But right now there’s a disconnect for me.

Perhaps the reason is due to the wild dialogue of AHS: Delicate. Kim Kardashian has been going viral online as Siobhan because the character’s lines are so filthy and outrageous. Unfortunately, I haven’t felt like she’s portrayed up that loud personality, and is instead letting the screenplay do the heavy lifting.

Maybe there’s also a cognitive dissonance with seeing Kim Kardashian playing… not Kim Kardashian. She’s been on TV non-stop for years, and continues to make headlines thanks to Hulu’s series The Kardashians. So it’s strange to see her without eating salads and talking to various members of her family of entrepreneurs. Since she’s got that signature contour and high fashion looks in the show, the costuming isn't exactly helping the transformation process. At least, not yet.

All this being said, you can’t deny that the camera absolutely loves Kim. It’s hard to take your eye off her onscreen, even in the same frame as other actors like Emma Roberts. So if her character forces her to step out of her comfort zone later on in this season of American Horror Story, it could be her big debut as a real actress. Only time will tell, but I’ll be tuning in.

As previously mentioned, the cast of American Horror Story: Delicate is stacked, with plenty of returning faces. While Emma Roberts is playing the protagonist, she's joined with franchise favorites like Dennis O'Hare, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, and Zachary Quinto. We'll just have to see how these characters ultimately factor into the growing narrative of the beloved anthology series.

Whether you’re a fan of reality TV or not, there’s no denying that Kim Kardashian was the main focus of conversation going into American Horror Story: Delicate. The Hulu reality star made her major acting debut last week as Siobhan Corbyn, publicist and confidante to Emma Roberts’ Anna Victoria Alcott, and the critics were pleasantly surprised with her “campy” performance. Fans continue to hype her acting on social media, with many saying she’s the best part of Season 12 so far.

The decision to add Kim Kardashian to the cast of AHS: Delicate — alongside Emma Roberts, Matt Czuchry, Denis O'Hare and more — initially didn’t go over well with many. Patti LuPone, who has appeared in two seasons of the horror anthology, accused her of taking roles away from actors. Kardashian playing a PR expert doesn’t feel like too much of a stretch, and CinemaBlend’s Alexandra Ramos said as much, musing that the reality star was a good fit for the role, and she looks forward to seeing more from her. Fans on social media agreed, with one X user writing: 

Lots of people are excited to see how Kim Kardashian’s character develops over the spider-filled season, and I’m interested to know how many viewers will be able to stick it out, should this wild and gross theory prove to be true. For now, though, Siobhan has provided a bit of campy comic relief to Anna’s pregnancy horror, and fans are here for it, with another writing:

I’d say these are pretty good reactions for Kim Kardashian’s debut into the American Horror Story universe, and it will be interesting to see the role that Siobhan plays as we get further into this arachnidian nightmare of a season. Is the publicist as good a friend as she appears to be, or do Kardashian’s wild eyelashes and overall spidery look from the ad campaign indicate there’s more going on there?

American Horror Story: Delicate has finally premiered – and I have some spoiler-filled thoughts, so be warned if you haven't yet watched!

American Horror Story, the popular and long running Ryan Murphy TV show, has been freaking audiences out since 2011, with the twelfth and latest one premiering in September 2023. (We've had every season ranked.) As lover of horror myself, I have viewed every single season, with my favorite being the third, American Horror Story: Coven. Honestly, it's mainly because I love witches and anything fantasy – I didn't write the list for best fantasy shows for no reason. But besides that, this series has been one where the quality has ebbed and flowed. Some seasons have been utterly perfect, some have been less than that - *cough* Cult *cough* - but no matter what, I do still find plenty to enjoy. 

It's why I was looking forward to American Horror Story: Delicate. From the trailers and the first looks, it looked to be an intriguing take on pregnancy and horror, something that has been tackled in AHS before, not to mention the horror genre in general. Plus, this season has plenty of returning stars to join new recruit Kim Kardashian. So, I obviously decided to watch the first episode when it aired, and I have thoughts. 

AHS: Delicate Features The Most Unsettling Intro In Years

American Horror Story has always been known for its creepy intros. The theme music itself has stayed relatively the same, besides some speaker-rattling changes for the story of that season, but the background imagery is constantly changed up to match the show's theme. 

The intro for American Horror Story: Delicate was one of the most unsettling I've experienced in years, probably since AHS: Coven, laying out a good mix of everyday objects smothered in blood and covered in other horrible substances that made me genuinely uncomfortable. And all that was mixed in with loads of medical equipment one would find in an OB-GYN's, such as a table with stirrups. 

And that's the main point, of course. You want to be uncomfortable after each episode's col open, and I'll always applaud the team at AHS for doing something so creative each year. 

I Like The Idea Of AHS Using Pregnancy As The Main Source Of Horror Again

As I said, this isn't the first time pregnancy has been used as a plot device in American Horror Story. We saw it in both the first season, Murder House, as well as Double Feature's first half. We've even seen pregnancy used in plenty of horror movies – one of the best horror movies ever, Rosemary's Baby, revolves entirely around that concept, and it's a clear inspiration for this season and its source material.

Even so, I genuinely love the idea of using it as the main storyline in this. Sure, it's been a part of the plot in the past, but it always felt more like just another character description rather than something that moves the inciting incident. In this, we are introduced to that topic in the first few minutes, and it sets the tone for the rest of the season. 

Not only that, but pregnancy itself is scary and in the wrong hands, is capable of causing as much harm as good. As such, I can understand why it could be used quite successfully in a horror-scape such as this. 

And The Inclusion Of Spiders Is A Great Scary Addition

I freaking love spiders. I don't know why. I would let a tarantula crawl all over me. I'm weird that way -- which is what makes this season so much fun for me already.

I feel like in American Horror Story, spiders have never been an intricate part of the web of stories we have been given, but from the first episode, we know it will play a significant role in this season. We've seen black widow spiders referenced, but whether that is a hint about Anna and Dexter's story, we'll have to see as the story goes on. 

But I Do Not Trust The Husband At All

Matt Czuchry's Dexter is super suspicious, and I don't trust him at all. Let's first address the fact that he called his deceased wife the "love of his life" when his new wife was right before him. I understand his feelings, but saying it right there, to someone he promised to spend the rest of his life with, with just an afterthought of adding on “until I met you” – something felt way off, like it wasn’t genuine. 

That itself, even if it was a mistake, is such an "ick" line to say and should have given Anne (Emma Roberts) a red flag. But he's just sketchy the whole episode. Even the way he speaks to Anne feels off – and I think there's something else up his sleeve. 

It's Always Nice To See Denis O'Hare

There have been many cast members of American Horror Story that have appeared in multiple seasons. Roberts is one of them, of course, but so is Denis O'Hare – someone who also had a role in the American Horror Stories Season 2 cast. And he is always a delight to see, always bringing something truly unique and nutso. 

The actor does a great job portraying the most unsettling characters that don't necessarily scream creepy but make you uncomfortable. I'm genuinely surprised he's never won an Emmy for his performances. He deserves the recognition – and I can't wait to see him in the show more, even if he probably has a lot to do with Anna's current mental woes.

Surprisingly, Kim Kardashian Fits The Role She's In

One of the biggest criticisms of this season, before it released its first episode, was that Kim Kardashian was cast as part of the main story, and some people were not huge fans of that – which, understandably, I can get. 

Kardashian isn't necessarily known for her excellent acting skills, since she's never acted for a scripted TV series like this before. But her performance on Saturday Night Live was fun, and quite honestly, many people thought Lady Gaga wouldn't be impressive in her role in American Horror Story: Hotel --and she won a Golden Globe for her performance. 

While Kardashian is not on that level, she surprised me in the episode. Her acting was decent, and her character didn't feel like it was shoved in there just because she's a well-known name. She's a publicist for Anne, which makes a lot of sense. I look forward to seeing her more and the rest of the American Horror Story: Delicate cast. 

But Cara Delevingne Felt Like A Severe Afterthought

Yeah, I don't know about Cara Delevingne's character either. It's a shame at the moment, because I like the model-turned-actress. She's been in some great movies and TV shows, and has been an enjoyable part of them. I quite enjoyed her as Enchantress in Suicide Squad back in 2016.

But her part in this feels like an afterthought. Yes, I know it's the first episode, but the entire point of the first episode of any season is to set up the rest of the show and establish storylines – and I am not interested in her storyline. Her character says nothing and stares weirdly at Anne, as if she knows something the young actress doesn't know, before vanishing. 

I'm more interested in the older woman spilling blood all over Anne's lips during her procedure. Why does she keep showing up? But Delevingne isn't giving anything from me, at least not yet.

That Being Said, I'm At Least Curious And Want To Watch More

Even so, I will say I am at least excited about what this season has to offer – and that's saying a lot for American Horror Story. 

The last few seasons haven't been my cup of tea. Double Feature was fun for the first half, but the second half was not for me. I couldn't even finish NYC at first, truthfully, and I am literally from New York – I thought it would be added to our list of the best shows set in NYC, but it's not even close. 

It's been hard for me to be really invested in this show for the last couple of years. This was the first time in a while I genuinely wanted to turn on the TV to check out the next episode, and I was annoyed when the premiere ended because I wanted to know what happened next. 

While I don't think that American Horror Story: Delicate will break barriers for being the best horror TV show right now, it'll at least be a lot more fun than we expected. And I believe there might be a hint of a return of some classic AHS tropes there that will make this all the more entertaining. 

We’re used to seeing Kim Kardashian in the headlines and all over social media, but it was a pretty big shock when it was revealed that the reality star would co-star in American Horror Story’s 12th season alongside scream queen Emma Roberts. In fact, many were upset with the casting decision, and Broadway vet Patti LuPone accused her of taking roles away from actors. Well, like it or not, Kardashian made her debut on September 20 as publicist Siobhan Corbyn, and I'm pleasantly surprised that the critics are pleasantly surprised about her "campy" and "vulgar" performance.

Spider season is upon us, as American Horror Story: Delicate's premiere introduced us to Emma Roberts’ Anna Victoria Alcott, who is thriving in her career while trying to conceive a child with husband Dexter Harding (Matt Czuchry) through IVF. Kim Kardashian already seems to be playing an important role as Anna’s closest confidante, and while the season is inspiring some pretty gross theories after "Multiply Thy Pain," it sounds like I’m not the only one who’s intrigued about what Kardashian will continue to add to the ensemble. 

Coleman Spilde of the Daily Beast says The Kardashians star is “far and away” the best part of American Horror Story’s 12th season so far, especially in the delivery of her deliciously vulgar first line. The critic writes: 

Anthony D’Alessandro of Deadline points out that Kim Kardashian may not be an actress, but if there’s anything she knows, it’s PR. For that reason, this role fits the reality star like a glove (one likely full of spiders). The critic says: 

Patrick Ryan of USA TODAY isn’t impressed with AHS: Delicate overall, rating the premiere episode “Multiply Thy Pain” just one star and calling it “an exhausted riff on Rosemary’s Baby.” And while Ryan says not even Kim Kardashian is powerful enough to save the season, she is the only member of the ensemble so far to deliver on the high-camp potential. In the critic’s words:  

Joel Keller of Decider also isn’t as sure about the horror series’ 12th season as he is about Kim Kardashian’s role in it. But with solid performances by both her and Emma Roberts, it seems to be worth checking out, Keller says, and in regards to Ms. Kardashian:

I’d say these are exactly the kinds of reactions one would hope for with stunt-casting like Kim Kardashian, and I am pretty excited to see what the rest of AHS Season 12 throws at the reality star. Spidery spoilers are creeping around below for the season premiere of American Horror Story: Delicate, so be warned!

FX’s annual spooky season delight American Horror Story brought mega-celeb Kim Kardashian into the star-studded Season 12 cast, but the core story for this cycle is centered squarely on married couple Anna and Dexter, played respectively by franchise vet Emma Roberts and Gilmore Girls vet Matt Czuchry. The pair’s goals of starting a larger family together were at the heart (and womb) of the debut episode, “Multiply Thy Pain,” though it was immediately clear that something was and is awry concerning the show’s medical professionals, with Denis O’Hare’s Dr. Hill being a geyser of red flags. But it was Dexter Harding’s past tragedy that sparked my theory-hungry attention the most, in regards to how it could relate to one of the following disturbing and heinous potential scenarios listed below:

• 1. Anna is going to have a baby, and Dexter is going to eat it. 
• 2. The baby is somehow going to consume Anna herself.

Stay with me here, because I'm not just writing about infant-oriented cannibalism because that's just how I choose to spend my work hours these days. This conjecture stems from a pair of presumed mythological references, as well as the frequent references to the eight-legged creatures that have been all over American Horror Story: Delicate’s marketing. 

Dexter’s Wife Ran And Died In A Restaurant Named Hestia

Let’s already make it clear that I’m leagues away from being anything resembling an expert in Greek mythology, so none of my ideas would hold up in anything but kangaroo court, but there are still some clear and easy connections for anyone to make. The news article Anna read about Dexter’s late wife Adeline noted that she died on August 10, 2013, in an accidental kitchen fire at her restaurant Hestia, where she’d rather quickly risen to James Beard Award-winning fame.

Sister to Zeus, Hestia was Ancient Greece’s goddess of the hearth, which already makes enough symbolic sense for why it was chosen as the name of the eatery itself, and with the concept of fire also serving as more ghoulish connective tissue. But beyond that, Hestia was also notable for refusing to marry, and choosing to remain a childless virgin, which seems like it has to be connected to Dexter and Anna’s current push to have a child together, and why he hasn’t talked to her about his first marriage much.

Before any of that, though, an infant Hestia and several of her siblings were gobbled up by their powerful Titan father Cronus, whose horrifying actions — spoiler: not uncommon in such myths — were guided by a worry of being usurped by one of his children. Zeus saved them from such digestive doom, though had his own issues with such behavior later in life.

Anna Hopes To Name Their Child Theya

While perhaps not as direct a reference as the mythology clue noted above, the fact that Dexter kept saying it’s not a name was curious, and possibly points to the idea that “Theya” is a remixed version of “Theia,” the Greek goddess of sight and vision. The name also just plainly means “goddess” or “divine.” At this point, anything that looks and quacks like a mythology reference is going to be mentally noted as one.

Since so much of AHS: Delicate’s premiere involved Anna possibly being gaslit-by-suppository, with Dexter often seeming just as non-empathetic as other characters, I think we can stretch the argument to suggest that Dexter also low-key shit on Anna’s name idea because he doesn’t want to have a daughter at all. Because, like Cronus (who was Theia’s brother) and Zeus (who consumed daughter Athena), he may be worried about female offspring being his eventual downfall. 

Spiders Are Known For Eating Their Mothers, And Vice Versa

Salutations anew, those who are still with me. Similar to not being a mythology scholar, I’m also not extremely well-versed in the ins and outs of creepy-crawly creatures like spiders. But a lifelong fandom of gross facts meant I was already vaguely aware that the arachnids are among the living creatures that engage in cannibalistic methodology within their families. Though I don't think I realized that the act goes both ways, with spider children feasting upon their elder mother, as well as eight-legged matriarchs consuming their young. 

All things considered, however, I don't think we need to worry about Anna having a particular taste for bitty babies anytime soon, since she'd probably worry about how that might change how she looked on camera. (Not that she seems that callous just yet, but we're just at Episode 1.) So if this season isn't gearing up for Matt Czuchry to go all Mother! on his kid, I then have to think the child will be the cause for Anna's downfall. Which may be too closely related to how things played out in the first half of Double Feature, but still. 

And if you thought this section was free from Greek mythology, YOU WERE WRONG. We definitely can't ignore the existence of Arachne, the skillful weaver who challenged the aforementioned Athena to a contest, and was beaten and shamed into suicide by the vengeful goddess. Upon hanging herself, Arachne was transformed into a spider by a regretful Athena. The tale has served not only as a tall tale origin story for spiders' webbing skills, but also a cautionary fable about the dangers of being led by one's pride, which I think totally ties into Anna's career goals. 

Obviously, the next American Horror Story episode could totally blow up all of my theorizing in an instant, but I don't think I'm completely off-base here. Even though that would be perfectly fine, since I don't necessarily want to see anybody eating babies in any capacity. (Not even Sugar Babies. No kinds.) The rest of the episodes haven't even finished filming yet, with this being the first AHS season to split its airing schedule in half, so maybe there's still time to change it even if that IS the way things are going.

As per usual, this latest edition of American Horror Story has brought in an ensemble of familiar faces as well as newcomers to one of the best horror TV shows on Hulu, who should still be familiar to you for other reasons. Let’s go over how you may recognize the American Horror Story: Delicate cast in our breakdown below.

Emma Roberts

Leading the American Horror Story: Delicate cast as an actor who suffers from bizarre circumstances after conceiving her first child is Emma Roberts, who has starred in five previous AHS seasons (namely Coven, Freak Show, Cult, Apocalypse, and 1984). Her legacy as a Scream Queen also includes the fourth chapter of the Scream movies, 2015’s The Blackcoat’s Daughter, 2020’s The Hunt, and Fox’s aptly titled horror-comedy series, Scream Queens. As for her lighter roles, Roberts — the niece of Julia Roberts and daughter of Eric Roberts — broke out as the lead of Nickelodeon’s Unfabulous in 2004 before starring in comedy movies like the family-friendly Aquamarine, the not-so-family-friendly We’re the Millers, and more recently the 2020 Netflix original romantic-comedy, Holidate. 

Kim Kardashian

Joining the AHS family for the first time as a friend of Roberts’ character is media mogul and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian, who was world-famous before even making her acting debut in the 2008 spoof movie, Disaster Movie. She would go on to land a recurring role on Drop Dead Diva, appear in a Tyler Perry movie called Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, lend her voice to the PAW Patrol: The Movie cast, and nail her SNL hosting gig in Season 47. Kardashian has also played herself numerous times, such as alongside the How I Met Your Mother cast and in Ocean’s Eight, most notably

Cara Delevingne

Yet another AHS newcomer this season is English model Cara Delevingne, who first transitioned into acting in 2012 by appearing in Anna Karenina for director Joe Wright, who cast her as a mermaid in Pan in 2015. That same year, she landed her biggest role yet in the YA novel adaptation, Paper Towns, followed by back-to-back comic book movie roles (Enchantress in 2016’s Suicide Squad cast and Sergeant Laureline in Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets in 2017). Some of her most esteemed credits as of late have been on television, such as her leading role on Amazon Prime’s Carnival Row opposite Orlando Bloom, joining Only Murders in the Building Season 2 cast in 2022, and hosting Planet Sex for Hulu that same year.

Matt Czuchry

Playing the husband of Roberts’ character is Matt Czuchry, who is also new to American Horror Story, but not to horror, having starred in the 2002 horror-comedy movie Eight Legged Freaks. Plus the failed attempt to reboot Dark Shadows in 2005. His first gig was a Freaks and Geeks appearance you may have forgotten, followed by a role on a Dawson’s Creek spin-off you may have forgotten called Young Americans, before joining the Gilmore Girls cast as Logan Huntzberger. After leading the raunchy 2009 comedy, I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, Czuchry played Cary Ages on The Good Wife before leading The Resident (until its cancellation in 2023) as Conrad Hawkins. 

Billie Lourd

Returning for her sixth AHS season (including a role in last year’s American Horror Story: NYC cast) is Billie Lourd, who also previously worked with Emma Roberts when she made her acting in the aforementioned Scream Queens. She shared the screen with her late mother Carrie Fisher, in her first movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as Lt. Connix — a role he wold reprise in two more Star Wars movies — before stealing the show in the 2019 coming-of-age comedy Booksmart. More recently, Lourd expanded her role in the AHS universe by leading an episode of American Horror Stories and starred alongside Roberts’ aunt, Julia, in the 2022 rom-com, Ticket to Paradise.

Denis O'Hare

Yet another franchise veteran (of both the original AHS and the spin-off) appearing in Delicate is Denis O’Hare, who has even more roles on strange TV shows to boast — such as HBO’s True Blood and The Nevers and Starz’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. His reputation as a Scream King also involves movies like found footage thrillers Quarantine and The Pyramid, the 2014 remake of The Town That Dreaded Sundown, and the Shudder original Lizzie Borden biopic, Lizzie from 2018. Of course, three-time Emmy nominee is known for more than spooky titles, having also starred in Oscar-winning dramas like Michael Clayton and Dallas Buyers Club, as well as funny movies like Zach Braff’s Garden State or the Sandra Bullock-led rom-com, The Proposal.

Leslie Grossman

A member of the AHS family since 2017, Leslie Grossman only other spooky experiences include an episode of charmed and a small role alongside Foo Fighters in the musical horror comedy, Studio 666. She is better known for having regular roles on TV comedies like Popular and What I Like About You, as well as a recent recurring role on Hulu’s coming-of-age LGBTQ+ TV show, Love, Victor. You might also recognize Grossman from the big screen in film like Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous or the party movie classic Can’t Hardly Wait.

Michaela Jaé Rodriguez

Delicate is Michaela Jaé Rodriguez’s first AHS season, but not her first time working with producer Ryan Murphy, having earned an Emmy nomination (the first for a transgender actress) for her role on FX’s exploration of ballroom culture, Pose. She also became the first transgender actor to play a Transformer when she starred in the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts cast as Nightbird. Rodriguez also put in memorable performances in Netflix’s  tick, tick… BOOM! cast and opposite Maya Rudolph in the Apple TV+ comedy, Loot.

Actor Angelica Ross has frequently taken part in super producer Ryan Murphy’s creations, most notably through her roles in Pose and the 1984 iteration of American Horror Story. In the case of the ninth season to FX’s hit horror anthology, the experience was purportedly less than ideal, at least that's the sentiment that was conveyed through a story Ross shared on social media. The actress asserts that the unpleasantness stemmed from being on the receiving end of a transphobic comment made by series co-star Emma Roberts. 

Sharing her story through an Instagram livestream, which was captured and shared via Pop Crave’s Twitter, Angelica Ross laid out her supposed experience in detail. She details a moment in which Emma Roberts supposedly made a playful complaint about her. However, Ross goes on to say that Roberts ultimately took a subtle jab at her personal identity as the conversation moved on. Ross also explained why she chose not to report this behavior in the moment, as well as the remark in question. The AHS alum presented the scenario thusly:

With no proof of this incident happening during the actress' time among the American Horror Story: 1984 cast, these are merely allegations at the time of this reporting. That doesn’t soften the severity of what was reported to have been said, but it also makes discussing the matter a sensitive balancing act. It's worth mentioning that isn't the only allegation Ms. Ross has shared as of late, in relation to her time working on AHS. 

It seems these supposed stories may be stemming from the current SAG-AFTRA strike, as Angelica Ross also claimed on her own Twitter that Ryan Murphy ghosted her about a season of American Horror Story composed of a Black, female cast. Supposedly, this may have resulted in her losing a potential gig in a Marvel Studios production and, by sharing these stories, Ross seems to be putting forth examples of why actors are striking for better conditions.

The Claws alum shared a screenshot of an alleged email exchange between her and Ryan Murphy pertaining to the plans for that season. Take a look at that tweet, which is embedded below: 

As with any stories of this nature, we’ll have to wait and see if there’s an official response from either Ryan Murphy or Emma Roberts. Time will tell where and how this matter progresses and whether Angelica Ross will receive any kind of closure regarding either of the accounts she's brought up.

If fans are looking for more American Horror Story, they can see Delicate (which will mark Emma Roberts' return to the franchise), as it makes its debut on September 20 as part of the 2023 TV schedule. Viewers can also watch past seasons through access to a Hulu subscription. Not to mention the spin-off American Horror Stories will be launching a “four-episode Huluween event” on October 26th, as part of everything new on Hulu in the month to come.

Over the last several years, Margot Robbie has truly skyrocketed to Hollywood fame. She's done so much, which makes it easy to forget that the actress and producer is just 33 years old and still has an entire career ahead of her for us to get excited about. Think about all the fantastic roles we’ve yet to see from the actress, and the sky is truly the limit thanks to her starring turn in 2023's most successful film, Barbie. Interestingly, something recently dawned on me about Robbie after learning she had a "crazy" good American Horror Story years ago: she’s never once done a horror project! 

Ok, so she technically did do a super low-budget Australian horror movie called I.C.U.. Still, the actress hasn't starred in any massive, mainstream fright-inducing productions, and that's wild to me. Let’s talk about it. 

That Time Margot Robbie Auditioned For American Horror Story 

Eric Dawson, a casting director who has filled the cast for every season of Ryan Murphy’s hit and very star-studded series, shared that Margot Robbie actually auditioned for an undisclosed role in the second season of the show, Asylum. The season, which aired in 2012, counted the likes of Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Chloë Sevigny, Clea DuVall, Adam Levine and Jenna Dewan among its cast. Here’s what he said about the audition and the decision not to cast her while speaking with Backstage: 

It was between 2011 and 2013 when Margot Robbie really began to get her big break, between her starring role in ABC’s Pan Am, supporting gig in About Time and breakthrough in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. As Eric Dawson shared, her audition was unbelievably good for American Horror Story, but it sounds like the show just missed out on casting her! 

What’s Up With Margot Robbie Avoiding Horror Projects? 

Now, it wouldn’t be until 2016’s Suicide Squad that we really saw Margot Robbie’s ability to play twisted characters, but this whole story has me thinking about the realm of possibilities for Robbie in the horror space. Now, I know the genre isn’t always a place for movie stars. However, between her take on Harley Quinn in the DCEU and her absolutely chilling performance as Tonya Harding in 2017’s I, Tonya, I can totally see her pulling out a wild performance.

While it's true the roles that I mentioned weren't horror-centric, they do show the star's knack for playing out madness on screen. I'd like to think that a skilled director like Ari Aster or Jordan Peele could put those talents to work in a major way. It’s actually surprising to me that she hasn’t made the leap and worked with filmmakers like those already, but maybe she’s just not into the genre? Either way, now I’m not getting this idea out of my head anytime soon. 

Meanwhile, the next American Horror Story season (which will be streamable with a Hulu subscription) is subtitled Delicate and based on the book Delicate Condition by Danielle Valentine. The season recently released a first look at its stars including Kim Kardashian, Emma Roberts and Cara Delevingne. That promotion came ahead of its premiere on the 2023 TV schedule, which will happen on Wednesday, September 20. We’ve got our theories ready for the new AHS season but, of course, I’m now thinking about how incredible it would have been for Robbie to join the cast of women! 

The twelfth season of FX's genre hit, subtitled American Horror Story: Delicate, is oozing vibes harking back to earlier seasons like Coven and Hotel, partially due to all the grrrl power in the full cast, and partially due to non-acting mega-celeb Kim Kardashian in a starring role. The first look at the reality star alongside Emma Roberts and Cara Delevingne was pretty freaky, and we now have an extended teaser from FX with even more clues and footage to scour over and speculate about ahead of the season, which will be split into two parts for the first time in franchise history. 

To that end, I already have a handful of theories cooked up after watching the video above, as well as some ideas about how it could tie back into past seasons. Which doesn’t include “FX wants to torture us by not immediately us first looks at Michaela Jaé Rodriguez or Billie Lourd,” but that’s also bouncing around my brain. Now let’s put on our goopiest thinking caps to dive into AHS theories.

All The Icky Spider Stuff Is Mostly Metaphorical

After so many years of visually haunting teasers and trailers ahead of yearly seasons, American Horror Story fans know that not everything that pops up in the promos is meant to have a straightforward impact on the season itself. Which is why I think the over-abundant usage of spider imagery here is almost entirely meptahorical and will allude to mythology or other forms of symbology. 

In what will forever be mixed-messaging to me, spiders have been used to represent birth and creation, which certainly ties in here, especially the moment in the trailer with all the egg babies pouring out of the broken egg. (Anyone who's ever unwittingly killed a pregnant spider likely felt the same chills and clenches my body went through.) Kim Kardashian's character seems like a fitting enough stand-in for the Greek goddess Arachne, details unheard, while Cara Delevingne seems to be imbued with Anansi-esque trickster behavior. And then there's the Japanese jorōgumo, a folklorish creature that can shapeshift from a spider into a beautiful and seductive woman. Maybe American Horror Story: Delicate will showcase ALL the spider mythology out there.

Most Likely Season Tie-In: Coven's Lore-Touting Witches

The Story Will Center On Both Good And Evil Babies

The concept of "good vs. evil" is as old as time, and it's obviously also a central part of American Horror Story's storylines from year to year, even if it sometimes leans more into "evil vs. evil." But while the live-action Delicate, which is based on Danielle Valentine's novel Delicate Condition, has been speculated to be a spin on Rosemary's Baby and other kinds of "mother carrying a monster" narratives, the teaser hints that maybe not everything will be darkness within these characters' wombs. 

The back-and-forth shots of the rocking bassinets seems to pretty directly set up light/dark dichotomy, where the more angelically lit sleeper has a nice mobile dangling above it, while the red-tinted bassinet doesn't have such luxuries. Plus, there's the fact that Kim Kardashian is donning a black dress amidst her possible acolytes, while Emma Roberts' pained character is dressed in white. Dun-dun-dunnnn.

Cara Delevingne's Meg Is Trying To Clone Herself Through Surrogates

Another way American Horror Story: Delicate may be distancing itself from the demonology and religious sentiments of Rosemary’s Baby is by setting its good/evil babies balance wholly in the world of science and technology. The shots of needles and cells do tip things more into medical practices, even if all those women chasing Emma Roberts’ Anna Alcott look like they’re fully down with weird rituals. But like, the teaser is very clear about showing a centrifuge, which doesn’t have nearly as many historical reference points as spiders.

Because Cara Delevingne’s Meg is rocking such a specific white-blonde hairstyle, and because that’s the same hairstyle adorned by all of the women chasing Anna, it makes me think Meg has a plan for tweaking the population. She may not be intent on using her own DNA for the cloning, to be sure, but that character is already giving Victor Frankenstein, just with fetuses instead of corpses as her subjects.

Aliens Are Also Involved Maybe?

Okay, so this one is the most out-there of this group of theories, both in terms of location and conjecture. Because that idea is largely tied to the image seen above, of the presumed spider-creature ready to burst from the womb. That particular visual instantly brings to mind the facehugging creatures from Ridley Scott's Alien, even though those were on the outside of the body instead of the inside like these. 

But there's also something alien in the look of the long black fingers and tentacles and spider legs. I could spend a completely different article pontificating about cloning alien spiders, but I don't necessarily think all those ideas are going to gel together here. If they did, though, hot damn!

Most Likely Season Tie-Ins: Double Feature's Calico and Theta

Will any of these theories pan out? Will all of them come true? Did I miss the mark each and every time? How much tithing do I need to get done for Dark Lord Ryan Murphy in order to get the Infantata back on my TV?

American Horror Story: Delicate will debut the first half of its season on FX on Wednesday, September 20, with episodes available to stream the next day with a Hulu subscription. At this point, it's unknown when production will start up again on the later episodes, as both the WGA writers strike and the SAG-AFTRA strike will need to be resolved in order for filming to resume.

As the writers and actors continue to walk the picket lines and negotiate with the AMPTP for new and fair contracts, small businesses who are contracted to work on shows and films are also dealing with the consequences of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. Now, the owner of a business who works with shows like Yellowstone and American Horror Story opened up about how they’ve been impacted, and are also dealing with the struggles of the strikes. 

Diana Foster owns the United American Costume Company, and she counts on providing outfits for costume designers who work on films and television shows like the smash hit modern western Yellowstone. However, with productions shut down, they can’t do their work, and it’s putting the business in danger. Foster opened up about the challenges her company is facing because of the strikes with Variety, saying:

The writers and actors are striking for fair deals from studios, and this situation has put a stop to tons of productions in Hollywood. This means that not only are these creatives currently not working, crew members and business owners who rely on productions as clients, are also out of work. 

United American Costume Company is independent of studios, and they “provide quality wardrobe for affordable prices,” per their website. Along with outfitting Taylor Sheridan’s show Yellowstone, they’ve also provided costumes for films like Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige and Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby and outfitted shows like N.C.I.S., Mad Men and AHS. 

Foster explained that they’ve been preparing for the worst. The company was founded in 1977, so this isn’t the first strike it has lived through. However, there is still concern for her business, as she explained: 

In February, the owner started warning her staff that things could get slow in the coming months. She also started cutting back her overhead. Foster went on to say that when the WGA strike started, productions were still working, so they could work. However, it was also a signifier that things were going to slow down. 

Along with not really having new business, Foster has also been dealing with studios that are not sure what to do with their costumes. She explained productions don’t know if they should return their wardrobe or pay for an extended rental. At the moment, there’s not much work for her employees to do, and she said:

While A-list celebrities have donated millions to the SAG-AFTRA fund to help actors who are out of work, according to Foster she does not have access to a resource like that. She said:

As the unions work to negotiate better deals with the studios, there is no question that everyone who is currently out of work is facing serious challenges. Colin Farrell was in production on The Penguin in New York when the strikes began, and he acknowledged how this issue is impacting everyone, not just writers and actors. He gave an update on his DC show, saying the strikes have put 650 crew members out of work, and he called out the studios for what was going on, saying “change needs to happen now.” 

So, not only are the actors and writers deeply impacted by the strikes but crew members and businesses who have contacts with productions, like Foster does with Yellowstone, are also struggling. Negotiations are still ongoing, and the strikes have not come to an end. It’s likely the second half of Yellowstone Season 5 and Taylor Sheridan’s other shows will not appear on the 2023 TV schedule, along with a lot of other productions that had to hit pause.

The 2023 Fall TV season is set to suffer dearly when it comes to scripted TV premieres, but FX has a far more enjoyable sense of agony in store for viewers with a double dose of star-studded frights. American Horror Story’s 12th season (subtitled Delicate), and franchise spinoff American Horror Stories are each set to make their highly anticipated debuts, and each is having to change up initial release plans due to the ongoing WGA writers strike and SAG-AFTRA actors strike.

As such, each series in the American Horror Story franchise is being released in a new way that changes up what fans have gotten used to over the years. Whether those changes are good or bad is up to audiences to decide, but they were apparently deemed necessary in order to give this Halloween as much Ryan Murphy flair as it deserves. Here’s what to expect from both AHS shows. 

American Horror Story: Delicate Release Details

For 11 years running, American Horror Story aired its seasons in full stretches, with sporadic variations by way of episode counts, premiere windows, and that one year when it aired on Tuesday nights for whatever reason. FX gave AHS: NYC its own pretty major scheduling alteration in 2022 by airing back-to-back episodes for the duration of the season, resulting in an arguably truncated experience for those of us who enjoy this show’s signature batshittery for as many weeks as possible.

This time around, it’s not wholly clear just yet how the ep rollout will go down, but the network confirmed that American Horror Story: Delicate will be split into two separate parts, with the first section premiering on Wednesday, September 20. Which means we might be waiting a while to find out why Kim Kardashian’s twisted pregnancy story features spiders so heavily in its creepy first-look imagery, as seen below.  

The concept of a two-part season might not be so horrifying if we had any idea of when Kardashian and co-stars Cara Delevigne, Emma Roberts and more can return to film the remainder of the season once the SAG-AFTRA strike has concluded. Unfortunately, that's not clear just yet, so we'll have to make do with however many episodes were completed before production went on hiatus.

American Horror Stories Season 3 Release Details

American Horror Stories hasn't aired for nearly as long as the flagship series, and thus hasn't quite set up clear expectations for its release methods. For instance, Season 1 kicked off its seven-ep run with a doubled-up premiere, while the second season spread its eight installments out across eight full weeks. Season 3 will reverse course in that sense, however, by dropping everything that was filmed all at once. 

As part of this year's Huluween festivities, American Horror Stories Season 3 will debut all four episodes at once for fans with Hulu subscriptions. That premiere was revealed to be happening on Thursday, October 26, which could technically set up a four-night viewing run going into the year's spookiest holiday. There's nothing NOT freaky AF about the first look at the season below.

It's unclear if FX and Hulu will turn the unproduced episodes into a fourth season, or if their fate will be decided once the strikes are over. And we'll have to wait a little longer to see official pics and footage from the new eps. 

In the meantime, though, every bit of American Horror Story excellence can be streamed in full on Hulu.

The fall TV season is approaching, and FX at least will be able to release one of its usual mainstays despite the WGA writers strike and SAG-AFTRA actors strike. American Horror Story is returning for its twelfth season, with none other than reality star Kim Kardashian as part of the cast alongside actors more accustomed to scripted projects. Now, FX has released first looks at Kardashian, AHS regular Emma Roberts, and Carnival Row's Cara Delevingne, and the release date for American Horror Story: Delicate reveals that spider season is upon us... well before Halloween. 

Kim Kardashian is quite literally wearing a massive spider in the first look at her in American Horror Story, and she's hardly recognizable as the same woman from The Kardashians. Take a look:

If you think that the placement of the massive spider on Kim Kardashian looks like a pregnancy bump, that's no coincidence! AHS: Delicate is based on a book called Delicate Condition, which follows a woman believing that somebody or something wants to prevent her pregnancy. The image of Emma Roberts looks even more like she's expecting:

The Delicate season will be the first time that a season of AHS is adapted from a book, which is reportedly worth comparison to horror classic Rosemary's Baby. If the show is anything like that film, this may be a rough season for Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts' characters!

The image of Cara Delevingne for American Horror Story Season 12 doesn't evoke pregnancy as much as the photos of Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts, but her character definitely looks like somebody you'd want to avoid as much as those massive spiders! Check her out:

Something tells me that Cara Delevingne's syringe full of what looks like a spider-related serum isn't a giveaway that AHS Season 12 is going to be about attempts to create the next Spider-Man! This season marks Delevingne's first role in American Horror Story, as well as Kardashian's. Emma Roberts has appeared in several seasons since debuting on the show in Season 3 in 2013, and she ranks among cast members who have been in the most seasons.

Production on Season 12 wasn't without its complications, particularly in light of the current strikes across the entertainment industry. After Kardashian tweeted from the set back in June, TV writers on strike responded with everything from inviting her to join the WGA picket lines to saying that she crossed their line. Just a couple weeks later, a Blacklist producer name-dropped Kim Kardashian and Ryan Murphy as people who could "have tremendous impact" if they joined the strike efforts. The writers strike is still ongoing, and WGA has been joined by SAG-AFTRA's actors in striking against the AMPTP. 

For now, with fall approaching in the 2023 TV schedule, you can find these three actresses debuting in their new characters with the premiere of American Horror Story: Delicate on Wednesday, September 20 at 10 p.m. ET on FX, and streaming next day for those with a Hulu subscription.

American Horror Story is one of those shows that has run for some time, and over that timeframe, there have been many stories, characters, and so much more – and I’ve been there to see it all.

The Ryan Murphy-created series has had twelve seasons that have taken place in a multitude of different locations. The cast has always changed, bringing in new actors and characters for each story. But, there are several actors for this anthology series who have been in many seasons, which is what we’ll be going over today.

Evan Peters (9)

There are a few people I instantly think of when American Horror Story pops up in my mind, and one of them is Evan Peters.

The actor has been making even more of a name for himself the last few years, starring in shows such as Dahmer, where he was praised for his performance for Jeffrey Dahmer, as well as being a major part of the Mare of Easttown cast, which led to him winning an Emmy.

Believe it or not, Peters has been in nine seasons of AHS. This includes Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, Cult, Apocalypse and Double Feature. He’s arguably one of the most known names from this series, and for good reason – his acting has always been fantastic.

Sarah Paulson (9)

The next person I always think of when it comes to this show is Sarah Paulson. There’s plenty to watch if you love Sarah Paulson, but she’s also appeared in nine seasons like Peters. Her seasons are Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, Cult, Apocalypse, and Double Feature.

It’s been some time since we’ve seen either of these two actors in a season, but maybe, in the future, we just might be able to see them return.

Lily Rabe (9)

Lily Rabe is another actress who has been in many seasons of American Horror Story – nine to be exact, just like Paulson and Peters. Her seasons are Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, Apocalypse, 1984, and Double Feature.

Rabe has also appeared in a few other projects, including her part in the Love & Death cast and in Presumed Innocent in 2024, but I always loved her in AHS.

Francis Conroy (8)

Francis Conroy is another actor who's been in the show since the very first season. Her seasons are Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Roanoke, Cult, Apocalypse, and Double Feature.

My personal favorite season of hers was Coven. There’s just something about her playing Myrtle Snow that always makes me love her even more. It’s also been a few years since we have seen her in the show, so hopefully she'll return before much longer.

Denis O’Hare (8)

The next actor on this list that we’re going to talk about is Denis O’Hare, who has been in a total of eight seasons. O’Hare has played a variety of roles across his seasons so far, which are Murder House, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, Double Feature, NYC, and Delicate.

O’Hare was also a part of the Season 2 cast of American Horror Stories, another Murphy-created show, so it’s clear that he’s a pretty big mainstay in the series.

Emma Roberts (6)

Emma Roberts is the first actress on this list that wasn’t featured in the first season, but her characters have certainly made an impact on AHS. Roberts has appeared in a total of six aired seasons so far.

These are Coven, Freak Show, Cult, Apocalypse, 1984 and Delicate. Personally, I have always loved Roberts in this show. While it’s awesome that she has been doing her own thing and appearing in many small horror films, such as Nerve, it’s great to see her in the latest seasons.

Billie Lourd (6)

Billie Lourd was another actress who didn’t start appearing in American Horror Story until much later on, but is steadily becoming one of the most reliable actresses for the series.

Her parts in the show include seasons such as Cult, Apocalypse, 1984, Double Feature, NYC and Delicate. making her overall total so far as five. Lourd, in my eyes, is becoming another awesome Scream Queen.

Leslie Grossman (6)

Leslie Grossman also came a little later in AHS’s lifespan, but her characters have truly made a serious impact, from some that you literally hate more than anything to characters that are truly sinister.

Grossman’s appearances are in Cult, Apocalypse, 1984, Double Feature, NYC and Delicate.

Adina Porter (5)

Porter is one of those actresses who has been around since the beginning, but she had such a long hiatus from the series that you wouldn’t have ever expected to see her again.

She first appeared in Murder House way back in 2011, but then didn’t appear again in the series until Roanoke. She had parts in two later seasons – Cult and Apocalypse, and then also appeared in Double Feature.

Kathy Bates (5)

I honestly think Kathy Bates has become another queen of horror since she had such an iconic role in Misery back in the 1990s – and truthfully, there have been so many amazing Kathy Bates movies since then. But, believe it or not, I was actually first introduced to Bates in American Horror Story, way back when I was a wee little girl.

Alright, well, maybe not little, but a teenager. Either way, Bates has appeared in a total of five seasons: Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, and Apocalypse. Truthfully, she’s one of the few actors from the earlier seasons that I miss the most, because she was always a force on screen, but I suppose I can just return to older seasons to watch her.

Jamie Brewer (5)

Jamie Brewer’s characters were always the ones that I genuinely loved the heck out of, because they are either incredibly creepy or some of the sweetest people ever – talk about a spectacular range. Brewer has appeared in a total of five seasons.

These are Murder House, Coven, Freak Show, Cult and Apocalypse. She also appeared on American Horror Stories, but what I wouldn’t give to see her again in the new season. I always loved watching her on screen, no matter what role she performed.

Finn Wittrock (5)

Finn Wittrock is one of those actors that truly made a mark when he was on the show. He is, yet again, one of the few on this list who was not in the original season (Murder House), but his characters in American Horror Story have truly become legends of their own, and his seasons are some of the best.

Wittrock has appeared in a total of five seasons: Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, 1984, and Double Feature.

Jessica Lange (5)

Another actress that I believe everyone thinks of when it comes to American Horror Story is Jessica Lange. While she was only in five seasons, Lange was arguably the main character of the first four seasons, creating very compelling stories and giving performances that truly rocked the world of television horror.

The actress is a legend who has been in many movies and television shows throughout her decades in the industry, but her time in AHS will always be remembered as great. Her seasons are Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, and Apocalypse. While I doubt we’re going to see Lange in another, it’s always incredible to revisit some of the best seasons of the show with her performance in them.

Angela Bassett (5)

Last, but not least, we need to talk about Angela Bassett. The actress has been swimming in movies the last few years, becoming a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and even earning a historic Academy Award nomination for her role in it. There are so many awesome Angela Bassett movies from earlier in her career, like Vampire in Brooklyn, Waiting to Exhale, Malcolm X, and many more.

Bassett had pretty big roles for five seasons (Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Cult, and Apocalypse), where she played a few characters that I still think about to this day. While she may have only been in a handful of seasons, she truly made her mark on the show, and I miss her dearly.

With so many incredible actors, it’s not that surprising to see how many have appeared in multiple seasons of the series. While Season 13 is confirmed, we don’t know who the actors that are coming back will be, but we’ll be sure to update this when that’s confirmed. I’ll just go back and rewatch some of the older seasons to relive the glory days.

We're over two months into an industry-wide writers strike in Hollywood, which has shut down pre-production on a slew of scripted shows and movies. While it isn’t technically against guild rules, it is frowned upon for production to continue on pre-strike written projects. Many sets have shut down in solidarity with the writers as they picket for better pay and working conditions. However, Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story has opted to continue shooting its twelfth season and, recently, a producer of The Blacklist called out the FX show. 

The continued work on AH12 is viewed as controversial, as it requires many industry professionals to cross the picket line. The studio where production takes place has become a picketing location, as many writers have organized lines in the vicinity. It would appear that some feel like the ongoing shoot is a slight to the writers, who are looking for solidarity as the Writers Guild of America fights for a better contract with the major studios. T Cooper, a WGAE strike captain and previous executive producer on The Blacklist, name-dropped AHS while speaking to Deadline and explained why he views this as a "hard" situation:

Kim Kardashian was announced as one of the co-leads for the season alongside Emma Roberts back in April. The reality star has been a target of much WGA grief, as she's continued to film the Ryan Murphy-produced show despite the union's urging to shut down production. Kardashian recently tweeted from the set and received major backlash from supporters of the WGA strike. As T Cooper alludes to, Kardashian is a major player in the entertainment industry and could theoretically be a driving force for the scribes' cause if she sided with them.

Ryan Murphy has also been scrutinized during this time. Not only has he chosen to continue to film his show, forcing many industry professionals to cross picket lines, but he also threatened to sue Warren Leight, a WGAE strike captain. Said lawsuit was sparked by a tweet Leight shared, in which he claimed that Murphy's employees would be "blackballed" if they walked out. After litigation was threatened, Leight took down the tweet, apologizing for his sentiments. At present, Murphy's show continues to shoot at Silvercup Studios and will be available for Hulu subscribers to stream sometime in the near future. 

While AHS12 has opted to continue production and Kim Kardashian and Ryan Murphy have continued to work, many stars have publicly supported the writers. Secret Invasion's Dermot Mulroney walked off the set of The View as a public demonstration of support. In addition, Pete Davidson brought pizza to protestors, and Mark Ruffalo and Mariska Hargitay have both tweeted about their solidarity with the writers. More stars may be striking soon themselves, as the Screen Actors Guild contract will be up on July 12th. 

The writers strike has delayed many projects, like Stranger Things, and Daredevil: Born Again and further delays could be on the horizon. Of course, American Horror Story Season 12 may not experience changes due to the fact that it's still shooting. Time will tell if that continues to be the case, and we'll also have to wait and see if the writers are able to agree upon a new deal with the studios. And as for whether others like The Blacklist's T Cooper calls out AHS as time goes on, that remains to be seen as well.

Fans are anxiously awaiting the release of the much-discussed American Horror Story Season 12, and one of the reasons for that may be because Kim Kardashian is set to be the co-lead. While few details on the story and theme for the latest chapter in the franchise are unknown, Kardashian’s involvement seems to be stirring up a bit of buzz. Yet it appears that the business mogul now finds herself facing a bit of backlash related to the show. She recently tweeted from the set amid the ongoing WGA writers strike, and a number of the picketers responded with some honest thoughts. 

Many of Hollywood’s most notable scribes have put down their pens (or keyboards), as they seek better wages, working conditions and more amid the strike. However, American Horror Story and other productions overseen by TV mogul Ryan Murphy are still in production, per reports. Kim Kardashian’s Twitter post confirmed that when it comes to the long-running scary show. The star tweeted the message below while she was apparently working on the show: 

In May, the SKIMS founder made headlines after she was spotted crossing the picket line in New York, where production on AHS has reportedly been taking place. Once news of the reality TV veteran’s actions became known, she received a considerable amount of blowback at the time. So when she posted about her experience this past week, a number of writers (civilly) condemned her post. When the 42-year-old star inquired about how other Twitter users were spending their time, comedy writer Jesse McLaren simply said:

Whether the mother of four actually sees – let alone accepts – that offer is anyone’s guess at this point. What can be said is that this point is that the reality TV vet is going to be starring on AHS Season 12 – which is subtitled Delicate – alongside Emma Roberts, Cara Delevingne, Matt Czuchry, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and more. The businesswoman’s casting has drawn mixed responses, as franchise veteran Patti LuPone wasn’t too thrilled about it. Though fellow alum Zachary Quino had nothing but kind words to say about the media personality after meeting her on the set of the new season.

The mixed thoughts on Kim Kardashian aside, it’s unclear when the public will even get to view this new season. It’ll be interesting to see how production continues to progress amid the strike and whether Kardashian will address her recent post.

American Horror Story has welcomed a plethora of major stars over the course of its 11-season run. From Angela Bassett and Sarah Paulson to Evan Peters and Lady Gaga, it feels like a major chunk of Hollywood’s celebrity population has popped up on the anthology series at this point. And the upcoming twelfth season of the FX series is set to keep the star power coming, as Kim Kardashian is set to co-lead it. She’ll appear alongside a number of other notable names, including Zachary Quinto. The fan-favorite actor just recently confirmed his return and opened up about meeting Kardashian on set as well.

Longtime AHS fans will surely be glad to hear that Zachary Quinto is returning to the fold during the new season. However, it sounds like his role will be relatively small compared to past seasons. He shared those few details during a recent interview with People, during which he also recalled crossing paths with Kim Kardashian. The Star Trek alum had nothing but kind things to say about the reality TV star and mogul:

That’s serious praise, especially coming from someone who’s been a fixture in Ryan Murphy’s franchise for so long. Zachary Quinto joined the cast during the first season of American Horror Story, which was subtitled Murder House. From there, he appeared in the second season, Asylum and, after a long absence from the series, he returned for the latest entry, NYC. It’s wonderful to see the seasoned pro shower some much praise on his co-star as she prepares to make her own mark on the long-running program. 

The Heroes alum isn’t the first veteran of the horror show to react to Kim Kardashian’s casting. Patti LuPone – who’s starred in two seasons herself – also spoke out on the matter, though she wasn’t quite as kind. LuPone chastised Kardashian, as the veteran actress believes the SKIMS founder’s hiring took away an opportunity from a more experienced performer. It is true that Kardashian doesn’t have as many acting credits as a number of her peers, but one would think that she just happened to possess something that appealed to the producers. 

The Kardashians star is set to co-lead the season – which is called Delicate – alongside series vet Emma Roberts. Among the cast that’s joining them this year are Cara Delevingne, Matt Czuchry, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and Debra Monk. Plot details are scarce at the moment, and it could be a while before we get our first glimpse at what’s to come. This is because the show has reportedly been delayed due to the ongoing WGA writers strike. 

Those curious about Kim Kardashian’s AHS debut may be bummed that they’re going to have to wait longer to see it, but Zachary Quinto’s vote of confidence may be enough to make them a little excited. It goes without saying that Kardashian has proven herself to be skilled in a number of ways. It’ll be intriguing to see if she finds similar success as the lead actress of a show.

For the bulk of 2023 so far, Yellowstone fans have been dealing with a revolving door of problematic behind-the-scenes reports coming out of the proverbial rumor mill, though with the relatively recent guarantee that the hit western will return to production in order for the rest of its fifth and final season to be filmed ahead of a November premiere date. (Which will precede the confirmed sequel spinoff that may or may not be headed up by Matthew McConaughey.) It’s still unclear when that’ll actually happen, and possibly making things even more confusing is the fact that star Kelsey Asbille is taking a sharp left turn away from westerns in order to film a freaky new movie alongside an American Horror Story star. 

As fans wait to see what fate’s plans are for her character Monica Dutton, Kelsey Asbille is set to star in a new genre feature from Sam Raimi’s Raimi Productions, with the horror filmmaker currently celebrating the continued box office success of Evil Dead Rise. The new project, which is titled Don’t Move, will team the actress up with one of Ryan Murphy’s go-to TV stars, American Horror Story regular Finn Wittrock. 

While it sounds like it will be a fairly small production without a lot of room for bells, whistles and delays, the production is set to take place in Europe starting in June, according to THR. Which would feasibly mean that Asbille will not be filming Yellowstone episodes in Montana during that time. So does that mean the TV production won’t kick off until July or later, making the November debut on Paramount Network harder to hit? Or will it end up getting delayed altogether due to the WGA writers strike?

It’s hard to say at this point, but horror fans should be enthused all the same. Don’t Move will star Kelsey Asbille as a grieving woman who is injected with a paralytic substance by a hardened killer, presumably played by Wittrock. In order to stay alive, she has to run, fight and avoid her attacker ahead of her body shutting down completely. It sounds pretty much on par with all the stressful situations that happen at the Duttons’ ranch, albeit with more running.

Don’t Move is set to be directed by Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, who wrote and helmed the three-part “Grey Cloud Island” entry from Sam Raimi’s short-form horror anthology 50 States of Fright. Schindler’s only other feature was 2015’s Intruders, which starred Rory Culkin. (Fun quasi-connection: Finn Wittrock’s most recent season of AHS, Double Feature, marked one of the only TV regular roles for Macaulay Culkin.) That film’s screenwriters, T.J. Cimfel and David White, also penned the screenplay for Don’t Move. 

For further horror move cred, the new project will also boast Alex Lebovici as an executive producer through his Hammerstone Studios. He produced the mind-boggling hit Barbarian last year, and he's also set to work with video game legend Hideo Kojima on a film adaptation of Death Stranding.

Despite one of her earliest roles being in the horror short Found Footage, not to mention her time as Teen Wolf's Tracy Stewart, Kelsey Asbille has spent recent years in more grounded-ish non-genre projects such as Wind River (also with Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan), Fargo and Gaslight, in which she reprised the role she voiced in the original podcast.

Now let's start imagining this project leading Finn Wittrock to join the Yellowstone-verse in some capacity. Or that Taylor Sheridan will craft a horror spinoff at some point. Not that it could be more frightening than what's happened in 1923 so far, but still.

The twelfth season of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story is on the way, but as per usual with the series, not a ton of details are available ahead of time. With no premiere date yet announced, however, there is still one reveal that has had people talking: reality star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian will be co-lead of the new season. Fans had a lot to say after the initial announcement; now former AHS star Patti LuPone had strong words of her own… and they weren’t “Congratulations, Kim.”

The Broadway legend brought her talents to Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story series in Season 3 and Season 11, as well as Pose and Hollywood, putting her on the list of actors who’ve worked in multiple Ryan Murphy shows. As such, perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise that Patti LuPone had some strong feelings about the news of Kim Kardashian being announced as co-lead of AHS Season 12 alongside Emma Roberts. 

She shared those feelings when she was a guest on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live during the “Do! They! Give A Damn!?” segment that revealed that she does indeed give a damn about this. She immediately said “Yes I do!” when Cohen asked if she gave a damn, and then “No I don’t!” when he asked if she doesn’t like it. She didn’t mince words with the host asked her why:

Now, Patti LuPone’s message about Kim Kardashian joining American Horror Story already seemed passionate when she pointed out that the reality star is taking on a role that would normally be performed by somebody with more scripted experience, even if you don’t understand the “Mrs. Worthington” reference. 

If you did understand it or (like me) immediately looked it up to see what she could have meant, then you now know that “Mrs. Worthington” is a song with the repeated line of “Don’t put your daughter on the stage” and the overall message that some people aren’t meant for an acting career even if they desire it. The reference might have been better fit for Kris Jenner as Mrs. Worthington, but I’d say that it’s a pretty harsh burn… now that I know what the song is! 

In fact, Patti LuPone’s passion on the subject seemed to be contagious, because fellow Watch What Happens Live guest John Leguizamo jumped on board, saying:

All things considered, it was a relatively brief moment of Patti LuPone sharing her thoughts on Kim Kardashian joining the cast of American Horror Story, but I’d be lying if I said that I haven’t already watched it more than once. Check the full “Do! They! Give A Damn!?” segment below:

This isn’t the first time that American Horror Story has cast somebody not exactly known for work in scripted television or film. Lady Gaga joined the franchise well before she was established as an actress and went on to win a Golden Globe for her work in 2016. That’s not to say that Kim Kardashian will follow in Lady Gaga’s footsteps, but at least it’s not unprecedented for a Ryan Murphy show to cast unexpected stars. The AHS fans who flooded the comments on Kardashian’s Instagram announcement don’t seem optimistic!

Of course, opinions could change once more is eventually revealed about Season 12, as there’s no confirmation yet as to when it will debut for FX viewers and Hulu subscribers. It’s expected to arrive in June, but no official date has been revealed at the time of writing. The trailer for the Delicate, Part Two confirms that Kim Kardashian's character, is the true antagonist of the story. The teaser is equal parts confusing and cryptic (such as with a shot of a spider-like creature protruding from Anna's baby bump) and surprisingly revealing (by showing that the demanding PR manager, Siobhan, is not a monster, but "so much worse." From what we can gather, Siobhan will stop at nothing to keep Anna from winning her prized award, even after the actress voices concerns over the issues she has faced since conceiving her unborn child. Luckily, the final episodes of American Horror Story: Delicate will provide the answers fans crave.

Series Veterans And Exciting Newcomers Return For The American Horror Story Season 12 Part Two Cast

The Delicate cast includes a few AHS stars who have been on the show the longest, but even more people who have made their debut on the show this season. Before you see more of them upon the season’s return, let’s talk about them and what we know about their characters so far one-by-one below.

Emma Roberts (Anna Victoria Alcott)

Leading the AHS: Delicate cast as first-time mother and Oscar hopeful Anne Victoria Alcott is Emma Roberts in her sixth season of the anthology series. She also previously worked with Murphy and Falchuk as a regular on Scream Queens and first became a Scream Queen when she starred in the fourth installment of the Scream movies.

Matt Czuchry (Dex Harding Jr.)

Anna’s husband, Dex, is played by Matt Czuchry. THR reported that he was not the first actor to join the cast not long after the cancellation of his acclaimed medical drama, The Resident. 

Kim Kardashian (Siobhan Corbyn)

Perhaps the most exciting addition to the American Horror Story Season 12 cast – just not in the eyes of AHS vet Patti LuPone – was the aforementioned Kim Kardashian, who plays Anna’s PR manager, Siobhan, who is hiding a deadly secret from her client. The reality TV star, entrepreneur, and social media mogul previously acted in 2008’s Disaster Movie, Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, and the PAW Patrol: The Movie voice cast, most notably.

Annabelle Dexter-Jones (Sonia Shawcross/Adeline Harding)

Annabelle Dexter-Jones, known from the recently overlooked horror film Bad Things, plays dual roles in Delicate. Not only does she play a huge fan of Anna’s named Sonia, but also Adeline – Dex’s former wife, who died under mysterious circumstances.

Michaela Jaé Rodriguez (Nicolette)

Another actor who made her AHS debut this season is Michaela Jaé Rodriguez. The transgender actor and singer is best known for her Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe-winning performance on Pose and for lending her voice to the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts cast as Nightbird.

Denis O'Hare (Dr. Andrew Hill)

Denis O’Hare is one of the most experienced AHS veterans, having appeared in seven seasons before starring in Delicate as Anna’s IVF doctor, Andrew Hill. The Tony Award winner was even part of the American Horror Stories Season 2 cast as a deranged dollmaker.

Cara Delevingne (Ivy Ehrenreich)

Another A-lister who joined the AHS family this season is Cara Delevingne. The Only Murders in the Building Season 2 cast member seems to be playing a nurse when she first appears in Episode 2, until it is learned that no one by her character’s name, Ivy, works at that hospital.

Julie White (Ms. Preecher)

Ms. Preecher is a domineering, disturbing, and mysterious presence throughout the season. She is played by Julie White – another Tony Award winner and veteran of the Transformers movies appearing in Delicate.

Maaz Ali (Kamal)

A security guard named Kamal is played by Maaz Ali. This is the actor and model’s biggest live-action role to date, having previously lent his voice to the popular anime series Record of Ragnarok and a couple of Pokemon video games, most notably. 

American Horror Story Season 12 Is Based On An Original Novel

Kim Kardashian’s Instagram video confirming her involvement in Season 12 was also what first revealed that the full title was American Horror Story: Delicate. The subtitle borrows from the novel that inspired it, Delicate Condition, which – much like this season – has drawn comparison to one of the greatest horror movies ever made, Rosemary’s Baby. 

This marks the first time that a season of AHS has been directly based on an original piece of source material. However, the show has been known to borrow from certain works of fiction — with the ninth season paying homage to many classic ‘80s slashers — and even true crime, as seen by all the real-life serial killers that either inspired characters or were actually portrayed in some episodes. Fans would get an early taste of what would take place in Season 12 when Delicate Condition hit the shelves in August 2023. 

How Many Episodes Does American Horror Story: Delicate Part Two Have?

According to TV Insider, the second half of AHS: Delicate will consist of four episodes, which is one less than the first half. This brings Season 12 to a total of nine episodes, making it one of the series’ shortest yet.

Halley Feiffer Is The Season 12 Showrunner

With Kardashian joining the AHS family and an original novel inspiring the story, Delicate is a season of many firsts, including the news that one person serves as the lead creative force this time. However, instead of Ryan Murphy or Brad Falchuk, the showrunner is Halley Feiffer – an actor known for films like The Squid and the Whale and on TV shows like The Good Wife, who first broke out as a writer with the 2013 comedy He’s Way More Famous Than You, which she also co-wrote and co-starred in with Ryan Spahn. After she and Spahn created their own comedy series, What’s Your Emergency, in 2016, she found work writing for shows like Mozart in the Jungle and SMILF before landing her first collaboration with Murphy as a writer for Season 3 of American Crime Story. She was also a consulting producer for the inventive, star-studded Apple TV+ anthology dramedy, Roar.

Murphy and Falchuk are still very much involved with AHS Season 12 as executive producers.The prolific duo behind many other hit TV shows — that range from light and fun like Glee to dark and reality-based like Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story — also have plenty of other interesting projects in the pipeline. For instance, according to Deadline, the premiere season of American Sports Story — which will dramatize the life of former NFL star and convicted murderer, Aaron Hernandez — is in the works.

AHS: Delicate Part Two Wrapped Production In January

According to ScreenRant, principal photography for the second half of AHS: Delicate was completed in early 2024, paving the way for the series’ return this coming April. The reason behind the season’s split into two parts is that the production was put on a six-month hiatus in lieu of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. However, that long, industry-rocking event famously did not stop the series from trucking along initially.

A Variety article from June 2023 reported that American Horror Story: Delicate continued filming despite the ongoing picketing and also addressed allegations that crew members would be “blackballed” from working on any of Murphy’s future shows if they did crossed the picket line. The producer would deny these rumors.Later that month, Kardashian shared an X post (when the site was still called Twitter) from the set that would attract the attention of many strikers who responded with negative criticisms over her decision to make the post in the first place and accused her of not supporting the cause.

With 2022's American Horror Story: NYC, co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk continued to expand their ever-growing stable of new and returning cast members, bringing Looking's Russell Tovey and The Watcher's Joe Mantello into the fold. With American Horror Story Season 12, though, the creative team may have pulled in the most jaw-dropping cast member since Lady Gaga, as reality star and mega-bazillionaire entrepreneur Kim Kardashian is offically co-leading Season 12 alongside a familiar face, but with an unfamiliar theme.

We're nine whole days beyond April Fool's Day, so this can't possible be a prank of the holiday variety, although I wouldn't be overtly shocked to learn that this was all part of Nick Cannon and Kevin Hart's new prank show. But no, American Horror Story fans will legitimately get to see Kim Kardashian sharing the screen with none other than Emma Roberts, who has previously popped up in Coven, Freak Show, Cult, Apocalypse, and 1984, not to mention both seasons of Murphy's Fox comedy-thriller Scream Queens.

The video seems to indicate that the subtitle for Season 12 will be "Delicate," although that's hardly confirmed in the weird li'l video. Am I the only one picking up doll vibes, either of the terror-inducing porcelain variety, or like old-timey rag dolls and the like? (Not that those dolls would be considered delicate in the same way, but still.) The childlike music, combined with the scribbly font, plays into something more youthful. But would that mean Kardashian and Roberts would be the mommies, as it were, or whatever other kinds of maternal roles would be there?

This is easily the biggest update for Season 12 to date, without much else coming prior. The Resident's Matt Czuchry is reportedly set to star in Season 12, as indicated by a report coinciding with the Fox medical drama's official cancellation.

With so many Ryan Murphy shows out there, it speaks to the co-creator's love of the genre that AHS continues to be a priority for all involved. And while the franchise isn't expected to cap off completely anytime soon, landing Kim Kardashian as a star might be the kind of high point to go out on. Assuming such praise will be applicable, anyway.

American Horror Story Season 12 doesn't yet have a premiere date, but you can bet that fans are going to be clamoring louder than usual to learn when new episodes will arrive. 

The Resident’s time on Fox has come to an end, as the network has cancelled its medical drama after six seasons and more than 100 episodes. The decision comes months after the Season 6 finale that left fans asking is The Resident coming back, and means that Matt Czuchry’s tenure as Dr. Conrad Hawkins is over. Apparently, however, the star isn’t staying away from the small screen for too long, as he has reportedly landed a new role.

Season 6 of The Resident wrapped back in January without any sign of whether or not it would return for Season 7. The finale fortunately didn’t end on a wild cliffhanger, and fans won’t be left needing closure on any huge, open-ended storylines. The show had managed to survive huge obstacles that included COVID and the departure of its original leading lady when Emily VanCamp decided to leave, only to get the axe now. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the cancellation comes after a 12% ratings drop from the fifth season to the sixth. 

As well as the bad news about the end of The Resident, the outlet bears some good news for fans of Matt Czuchry, who was known for Gilmore Girls and The Good Wife before landing the leading role in the Fox medical drama. He’s reportedly joining the next season of American Horror Story, which wrapped its eleventh season back in December with a divisive finale.

Unfortunately, there is no official news at the time of writing about the theme for American Horror Story Season 12, or which of the many franchise familiar faces might (or might not) reappear. Actors like Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, and Billie Lourd are just a few of those who have appeared in many seasons of AHS playing different characters thanks to the anthology format of the series; given that FX renewed the show through Season 13 back in early 2020, it’s possible that Season 12 would be only the beginning of Matt Czuchry’s time in the franchise. 

We can only speculate at this point, given that little is known about Season 12 beyond that it will happen and The Resident alum will reportedly be part of it. Seasons of the hit show usually debut between mid-September and mid-October (with a couple of exceptions). If that’s the case for Season 12, then Matt Czuchry could be back on TV in the fall around the same time as he would have been in a normal season of The Resident. 

At the time of writing, Matt Czuchry has not publicly commented on reports of him joining American Horror Story or on the news that The Resident officially will not be returning to Fox in the fall. Fans can always revisit his time as Dr. Conrad Hawkins – which ended on a happy note with the start of a new romance – with the full series streaming via a Hulu subscription. All eleven chapters of American Horror Story so far are available on the streamer as well. With the end of The Resident, there's still no shortage of 2023 TV shows that could get cancelled, so cross your fingers for your favorites if they haven't already been renewed!

Spoilers ahead for the final of American Horror Story: NYC.

FX’s American Horror Story is a bonafide TV sensation, helping to revolutionize anthology shows for modern television, and featuring stellar casts. The Ryan Murphy series recently wrapped its whopping 11th season on the air, titled AHS: NYC. The season was a return to one long narrative after the duel story of Double Feature, and featured the return of franchise favorites like Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto, Billie Lourd, and Dennis O’Hare. And while I originally enjoyed the season’s contained story and strong performances, the last two episodes were hard for me to even get through. In fact, AHS: NYC’s finale is still bothering me weeks later.

Throughout American Horror Story: NYC we were dealing with a few plot points. One was the serial killer Mr. Whitely played by Jeff Hiller. Then there was the hulking masked figure known as Big Daddy, who seemingly worked for Quinto’s Sam. And finally there was the mysterious disease being investigated by Billie Lourd’s Dr. Hannah Wells. The latter felt like more of an afterthought, until the last two episodes ended up becoming a drama about the AIDS epidemic. Let’s break it all down, and I’ll explain why the latest American Horror Story finale was such a let down for me.

As gripping as the death montage was, the Big Daddy reveal was a let down.

The two-part finale of American Horror Story NYC was titled “Requiem 1981/1987”, and both were released on FX November 16th. The episodes featured a time jump, and killed off the majority of the cast of characters. This includes Billie Lourd’s character, who was not even given the dignity of dying on camera. Although they weren’t murdered by the mysterious Big Daddy… kind of. Mostly because Big Daddy wasn’t actually a real person at all.

In the finale of AHS: NYC it was eventually revealed that the masked killer Big Daddy was actually a metaphor all along. He was the representation of death, rather than another physical murderer. The episode ended with a gorgeous montage which saw countless queer men walk into a grave, while protagonist Gino (Joe Mantello) battles AIDS and avoids Big Daddy for years. While the sequence itself was ambitious and Mantello’s performance was strong, I was let down by this narrative choice. Big Daddy was a mystery that surrounded the entire season, and so to not actually have anyone under the mask felt underwhelming.

The last two AHS: NYC episodes shifting from horror to an AIDS drama was a misstep.

Aside from the Big Daddy of it all, my biggest issue with the finale of American Horror Story: NYC was the way the last two episodes transformed the show from a spooky series to a devastating meditation on the AIDS crisis. While throughout the season we heard about a mysterious virus and even saw skin lesions on characters, I truly thought that AHS was going to flip the script and make it about something other than HIV. I was wrong. 

In the end, NYC’s finale didn’t feel like American Horror Story at all, but more like an episode of Pose or a scene from The Normal Heart. While Ryan Murphy has made great strides in representing the truth of the AIDS epidemic, I thought it felt out of place in AHS. The performances were powerful, but I had a hard time even getting through the final two episodes. Mostly because it’s hard for me as an LGBTQ+ man to watch so much gay pain. It’s for this reason that I had to turn off Dahmer, another Ryan Murphy production, after its grueling premiere episode. And while the gruesome content of that series is to be expected, ending American Horror Story: NYC the way it did felt out of place, and almost ruined the entire season for me. It’s definitely not a chapter I’d be down for revisiting, as fans often do with iconic entries like Murder House and Coven.

American Horror Story is expected to return for a 12th season on FX, although those plans are being kept under wraps. In the meantime, check out the 2023 TV premiere list to plan your next binge watch.

A straight, female interior designer (Debra Messing) and her best friend — a gay, male lawyer (Eric McCormack) — share an apartment in New York City where they run into various funny situations with their friends, the flamboyant Jack (Sean Hayes) and the filthy rich Karen (Megan Mullally).

Why it is one of the best Leslie Jordan TV shows: One of Leslie Jordan’s most memorable, scene-stealing recurring roles on a TV show was Beverley Leslie — a staunchly conservative socialite who fervently denies he is gay despite many hints to the contrary — on Will & Grace, which is what earned him his Emmy Award in 2006.

Boston Legal (2005)

Although his methods are ethically questionable, Alan Shore (Emmy winner James Spader, reprising his role from The Practice) becomes a successful partner at a Boston law firm with the help of his friend, and a veteran of the field, Denny Crane (Emmy winner William Shatner).

Why it is one of the best Leslie Jordan TV shows: Another acclaimed recurring TV role on Leslie Jordan’s resume was Bernard Ferrion — a man with a notorious history for murdering people by striking them with frying pans — on Boston Legal, which is one of a few TV series created by David E. Kelley that the actor also appeared on, including Ally McBeal and Boston Public.

The United States Vs. Billie Holiday (2021)

A talented jazz singer (Andra Day) struggles to overcome her own crippling addiction and fight for the right to perform her legendary song, “Strange Fruit,” which condemns America’s history of lynching people of color.

Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday (1991)

Why it is one of the best Leslie Jordan movies: His roles on American Horror Story were not Leslie Jordan’s first experiences with the horror genre, as he also played a diner employee named Shelby in Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, which was not the last of the Friday the 13th movies as initially promised, but is probably the funniest of the bunch.

The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time (2018)

A man (Ian Ziering) reunites with his friends and family to hatch an elaborate plan to prevent a deadly, recurring storm of strong winds and hungry aquatic beasts from ever happening by traveling back in time to when the bizarre event first occurred.

Why it is one of the best Leslie Jordan movies: Another horror-centric title on Leslie Jordan’s resume — in which he plays Benjamin Franklin — is the also (more intentionally) funny The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time, which is, indeed, the final installment of Syfy’s franchise of ridiculous creature features…for now, at least.

The Cool Kids (2018-2019)

A close-knit group of senior citizens (David Alan Grier, Martin Mull, and Leslie Jordan) abruptly become acquainted with a new resident of their retirement community (Vickie Lawrence) who is even more rebellious than they are.

Why it is one of the best Leslie Jordan TV shows: The same year he appeared in The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time, Jordan landed the starring role of the older, but still lively and flamboyant, Sid alongside a cast of fellow funny legends on Fox’s The Cool Kids — co-creators Charlie Day and Paul Fruchbom’s short-lived, but well-liked, sitcom that celebrates those who continue to hold onto their youth no matter what.

Sordid Lives (2000)

The death of their matriarch brings a Texas family back together and forces them to confront their own deepest secrets and insecurities as well as their frustrations with one another.

Why it is one of the best Leslie Jordan movies: Perhaps the funniest movie that Leslie Jordan is well known for is writer and director Del Shores’ own star-studded, cinematic adaptation of his satirical, Southern-fried play, Sordid Lives, in which the actor plays a drag queen who bases his look off of country music legend Tammy Wynette.

Call Me Kat (2021-2022)

A single, middle-aged, and enchantingly eccentric woman (Mayim Bialik) takes a sum of money that her parents intended to use for her wedding to open up a restaurant for cat lovers.

Why it is one of the best Leslie Jordan TV shows: A couple of years after The Cool Kids was cancelled, Leslie Jordan was cast in a main role on another Fox sitcom called Call Me Kat — star and executive producer Mayim Bialik’s adaptation of the British comedy Miranda — as the title character’s friend and employee, Phil.

Like many others who worked with him, Mayim Bialik went to social media to share thoughts about her Call Me Kat co-star and announce the series will pause production in light of his passing. The Jeopardy! host said it is “inconceivable to imagine a world without Leslie.” I think we can all agree that things will be different and, especially, a little less bright without a one-of-kind personality like Leslie Jordan.

One of the brightest personalities in Hollywood has now been dimmed ever so slightly, as actor Leslie Jordan, the charismatic co-star of Fox's Call Me Kat opposite Cheyenne Jackson and Mayim Bialik, has died. He was 67 years old.

The details behind Leslie Jordan's sudden and unfortunate death are still being investigated. According to TMZ, the American Horror Story vet was driving his BMW through Hollywood on the morning of Monday, October 24, and it stands to reason that he went through some form of medical emergency that left him unable to maneuver the vehicle properly. After this point, he reportedly crashed his car into the side of a nearby building.

This news comes as a huge shock to Jordan's legions of fans new and old. The actor has been as busy as ever in recent years, not only with playing Phil on Call Me Kat, but in a slew of other relatively recent projects. In the past two years or so, he's made appearances in shows such as Fantasy Island, The Great North and Special, while popping up in features like The United States vs. Billie Holiday and Until We Meet Again. He also served as the narrator for this year's streaming docuseries The Book of Queer. 

Sadly, Leslie Jordan is leaving behind not just unseen episodes of Call Me Kat, as well as episodes that he'll never get to film, but also at least one feature project that is yet to be released. He filmed for the comedic anthology Strangers in a Strange Land, which is not at all related to Robert A. Heinlein's sci-fi classic. He was also set to co-star with Margaret Cho in Ben Eisner's AIDS-tethered dramedy Ron., though that project was still in pre-production mode as of May 2022.

It wasn't just with acting that the entertainer struck a chord with his fanbase in recent years, either. Jordan became something of a social media obsession for many during the pandemic years, as he offered up a wealth of hilarious stories, warmhearted conversations, jovial dancing, and everything else one would want. He'd amassed over 5.8 million followers on Instagram, where he'd posted as recently as Sunday with a video of him singing hymns, as seen below. 

Even just earlier this year, he inspired a collective and non-judgmental "awww" among movie fans by mispronouncing Denis Villeneuve's name during the Oscar nomination announcements.

To that end, Leslie Jordan has been an entertainment gold mine for as long as he's brought his Southern charms to both the big and small screens, with a career that kicked off back in 1986 with roles on The Fall Guy and The Wizard. The next decade saw him appearing in everything from Night Court to Pee-Wee's Playhouse to Lois & Clark to the Married with Children spinoff Top of the Heap opposite future Friends star Matt LeBlanc. Hearts Afire marked a big break for him — even if the series didn't last as long as it could have with sitcom greats like John Ritter and Markie Post — and he went on to take part in hits such as Reba, Boston Legal, Ellen, Desperate Housewives, Raising Hope, Will & Grace and many more.

The Tennessee native was a fan favorite amongst American Horror Story viewers as well, having appeared across three seasons, Coven, Roanoke, and 1984. He wasn't reported to be part of the cast of the new NYC season.

American Horror Story (And Its Spinoff) (2011 - Present) (2021-Present) 

In this horror anthology series, American Horror Story covers a new tale each season, ranging from mysterious happenings in haunted houses, to covens down in New Orleans, or to a summer camp in 1984, all while showing the horrible outcomes of what happens during these true American horror stories.

American Horror Story is definitely one of my favorite shows that Ryan Murphy has done. While I could spend my time watching the best horror movies, sometimes I want a nice long season filled with scares, and that’s what American Horror Story is all about. The casts that have popped up throughout the seasons are fantastic, from legendary actress Jessica Lange, to pop superstar Lady Gaga, with plenty of other amazing actors with them, like Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Finn Wittrock, and many more. Truly, it’s such a great series - my personal favorite season is Coven. Gotta love my witches.

Something else you should also check out is its spinoff, American Horror Stories. A Hulu exclusive, the show has two seasons and features a new story with a new cast every episode, featuring some truly twisted tales. The Season 2 episodes are my personal favorite. But that could all change with the upcoming AHS 12.

9-1-1 (2018 - Present)

In a change of pace compared to many of Murphy’s other projects on this list, 9-1-1 is a procedural television series created by Ryan Murphy that follows the lives of first responders in the city of Los Angeles, focusing on not only the police, but the dispatchers, firefighters and paramedics that help the citizens of the city on a constant basis. 

To be honest, when I think of Ryan Murphy, a procedural series is never what I think of, and yet, he made this show so good. I’m not even a big procedural fan and yet I find myself returning to this show on television whenever it’s on because the stories are that compelling. The show has gotten popular enough that it now has a spinoff called 9-1-1: Lone Star, which takes place in Austin, Texas. If you want to give procedurals a try, this is the one to check out.

Nip/Tuck (2003 - 2010)

In Nip/Tuck, the series focuses on two Miami-based plastic surgeons, Sean McNamara and Christian Troy. When they are on the brink of expanding their practice, their friendship is put to the test when McNamara goes off to do pro-bono plastic surgery on victims of a serial rapist/slasher.

This was one of the first TV series that Ryan Murphy ever did, paired with constant collaborator Brad Falchuk, and honestly, it’s really good. I didn’t think I’d be into something like this at first but Murphy does a great job of pairing medical drama storylines with many other genres. Some episodes are very simple, others are nail-biters, and others are strangely… erotic? Is that the best word? I don’t know. I can’t give much away without spoiling the show. Just watch it.

Scream Queens (2015 - 2016)

Scream Queens takes its name after the iconic use of the term, about a girl who can produce a hell of a scream. In this series, a group of girls, starting out at a university and later moving to a hospital, are constantly terrorized by a serial killer.

I don't think Scream Queens got the love that it deserved. Not only was it so funny, but the cast was killer (pun intended). Emma Roberts, Billie Lourde, Abigail Breslin - even Ariana Grande was a part of this series for a time. The ultimate scream queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis, had a main role! Plus, the scares were actually so much fun, paired with a funny but frightening story. This should have been so much bigger than it was - but you can at least give it the praise it rightfully deserves now by streaming it.

Glee (2009 - 2015)

Oh, Glee. In this musical-comedy, a group of outcasts at William McKinley High School end up joining the Glee Club under the tutelage of Will Schuester, one of the school’s Spanish teachers, all hoping to maybe gain something out of it - whether that be popularity, love, or anything else.

I feel like when anyone thinks of Ryan Murphy, they think of this show because of how huge it was. I mean, it became so popular the cast went on tour not that long after its second season. While I do think the quality of the show dipped after Season 3 (and bounced back in Season 6), it’s still enjoyable to watch. 

I love the Glee cast, the music renditions are usually very good and show off their wide array of talent, and they touch on some pretty heavy topics very regularly, especially in the first couple of seasons. I think everyone should give Glee a shot - and be a loser like me. If not for the amazing covers.

Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (2022)

Arguably one of the biggest television shows of 2022 (so far at the time of writing this) is Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, or more commonly referred to as Dahmer. The series, starring Evan Peters, tells the story of infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, recapping his life and how he turned into the monster we all know him to be. 

The show has been popular on Netflix since its debut, and Evan Peters’ performance has been critically praised across all boards. The story itself is fascinating for the true crime enthusiast, as well as anyone who wants to experience a truly raw and compelling story that will shake you to your core. You don’t want to miss out on this one. 

Stream Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story on Netflix. 

American Crime Story (2016 - Present)

American Crime Story is an anthology series that follows a new legendary crime case that rocked the world each season. The first season was called The People vs. O.J. Simpson, covering the O.J. Simpson case. The second season was titled The Assassination of Gianni Versace, covering the murder of famous fashion designer, Gianni Versace. The third was titled Impeachment, about the sexual scandal of Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton. 

As someone who loves true crime, I really loved that Ryan Murphy began doing American Crime Story. The show does an excellent job of adapting real-life events while also making them entertaining to watch. The casts have always been impeccably talented, with recurring actress Sarah Paulson returning in another Murphy project, as well as people like Darren Criss, Cuba Gooding Jr., Sterling K. Brown and more.

Feud (2017 - Present)

Murphy does quite well with these anthology shows, and Feud is another great example of that. In this docudrama first season, Feud aims to focus on famous feuds that have gotten wide-spread media attention, with the first eight episodes of the show focusing on the famous feud between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. 

The first season was widely acclaimed and ended up earning eighteen Primetime Emmy Awards, showing you just how amazing it truly was. A second season has been ordered and is currently in the works, according to Deadline, featuring a new cast of stars like Molly Ringwald, Naomi Watts, Diane Lane and more.

Pose (2016 - 2021)

In this FX series, Pose is all about the African-American and Latino LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming drag ball culture scene in New York City in the 1980s and 1990s, showing what it was like to live the way you wanted back then.

I think what I love the most about Pose is that it’s not afraid to take risks. There are so many topics that they touch on throughout the show, and plenty of moments where you’ll either be dancing to the fantastic music, laughing your ass off, or crying. One standout of this series is Billy Porter, who’s won a lot of awards for his portrayal of Pray Tell, but everyone is fantastic in their own right. It’s such a great series, even if it only has three seasons.

The Politician (2018 - 2020)

In this Netflix original comedy, The Politician centers on Payton Hobart, a wealthy man from Santa Barbara where each season focuses on a different political race that he is involved in.

You know, at first, I wasn’t really into the idea of watching this show. I wasn’t that big into politics and felt that a show that revolved around it would bore me quickly. But, after giving The Politician a shot, I knew it was so worth it. Ben Platt of Dear Evan Hansen and 2012’s Pitch Perfect fame is absolutely perfect in the leading role of Payton, and the rest of The Politician cast is great too. The story itself is also a lot of fun, making the political races funny and yet serious at the same time - it’s a fantastic dramedy.

Ratched (2020 - Present)

In this spinoff of the classic film, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Ratched follows the titular nurse, Mildred Ratched, from the original film, telling her origin story at the legendary hospital, and how she earned her name as one of the worst nurses there.

Let me say that I don’t even think you need to watch the original film to like this series (even though you should because it’s awesome). Ratched adds depth and backstory to this iconic character, played by the ever-talented Sarah Paulson, and the rest of the Ratched cast performs exceptionally well too, including a fantastic performance from Finn Wittrock as Edmund Tolleson. It’s suspenseful, scary, and everything you could want in a spinoff series.

After writing this, I’m starting to see that Ryan Murphy likes a lot of the same actors – especially Sarah Paulson – but hey, when they make such great TV with such talented actors, how can you not cast them in more things? Hopefully, now you’ll be able to watch some of his best TV series (so far). 

Something else that recently came out in 2022 is The Watcher, another Netflix original that follows a famous true crime case, and one you should certainly check out.

What’s even better is that American Horror Story Season 11 is a part of the 2022 TV premiere schedule, so I know that my television life will be packed.  

You can never predict exactly what you are in for with each new season of co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s alluring bizarre and extremely freaky anthology series — which is also one of the best horror TV shows on Hulu. That is especially the case for its latest, and eleventh, edition called American Horror Story: New York City (or AHS: NYC, for short), which we can infer takes place in the Big Apple, but not much else about the story has been revealed. 

However, what we can probably count on is that the American Horror Story Season 11 cast is going to be a knockout, just like it is every year. The following is breakdown of the familiar faces coming back and new faces joining in on the fun for the return of the FX hit.

Joe Mantello (Gino)

Making his debut in the American Horror Story cast in the role of Gino, we have Joe Mantello, who has worked with Ryan Murphy several other times. He played Mickey Marcus in HBO’s Emmy-winning historical film The Normal Heart, directed Netflix’s The Boys in the Band from 2020 (which Murphy produced), starred in Murphy’s Netflix original period miniseries, Hollywood, from the same year, and had a role on The Watcher cast, most recently. 

After getting his start on Broadway, the actor made his debut in a title made for the screen with Cookie — a 1989 comedy starring Peter Falk — and, in 1997, made his own feature-length directorial debut with Love! Valour! Compassion!, starring Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander.

Billie Lourd (Hannah)

Hannah is the sixth character Billie Lourd has played in the AHS universe (or the seventh if you count her episode of American Horror Stories). She made her acting debut in Murphy and Falchuk’s more comedic (and more network-friendly) horror TV show, Scream Queens, in 2015 — the same year she made her feature film debut in Star Wars: The Force Awakens alongside her late mother, Carrie Fisher. 

In addition to reprising the role of Lt. Connix in two more Star Wars movies, Lourd stole the show in Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart in 2019, played Debra Messing’s niece on Will & Grace in 2020, and, also in 2022, appears in the George Clooney and Julia Roberts-led rom-com, Ticket to Paradise.

Zachary Quinto (Sam)

As Sam, we have fellow AHS veteran Zachary Quinto, whose other most notable TV credits include his one-season stint on 24 as Adam Kaufman, his first starring role as Sylar on Heroes, the Joe Hill-inspired AMC horror show NOS4A2 as villain Charlie Manx, and Amazon’s animated, non-Marvel or DC superhero series, Invincible, as “Robot.” 

On the big screen, the actor is best known from J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movies as Spock, but also gave memorable performances in the likes of Oliver Stone’s Snowden as journalist Glenn Greenwald in 2016, 2018’s Hotel Artemis as the son of Jeff Goldblum’s crime lord character, and in his co-star Joe Mantello’s aforementioned directorial effort, The Boys in the Band.

Russell Tovey (Patrick)

While Patrick is his first AHS character, Russell Tovey is no stranger to horror, having played a werewolf on the BBC’s original version of Being Human, appeared in the funny creature feature Grabbers from 2012, and starred in 2014’s Blackwood — a modernized take on a traditional English ghost story. The British actor also had a role on a couple of Arrowverse DC TV shows, made a small appearance in Muppets Most Wanted, had a regular role on HBO’s queer drama, Looking, and also starred in the queer biographical movie, Pride, in 2014. 

Leslie Grossman (Barbara)

Barbara is only the latest American Horror Story character played by Leslie Grossman, but her only other experience with the synonymous genre is appearing alongside Foo Fighters in Studio 666, having been better known for comedies — such as one of the best party movies, Can’t Hardly Wait, or Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous. She has a prolific small screen presence, however, from her regular roles on The CW’s Popular and What I Like About You (when the network was still called The WB) and, guest spots on hits like Nip/Tuck or 2 Broke Girls, and a more recent recurring role on Hulu’s Love, Victor.

Charlie Carver (Adam)

As Adam, we Charlie Carver, who is yet another AHS newcomer, but also a Ryan Murphy veteran, having starred in his Netflix original series prequel to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest called Ratched and the aforementioned The Boys in the Band. He made his debut joining the Desperate Housewives cast as Porter Scavo, later starred on HBO’s The Leftovers, had a recurring role on MTV’s Teen Wolf, and most recently appeared in Matt Reeves’ The Batman — all of which also starred his twin brother, Max.

Sandra Bernhard (Fran)

Stand-up comedian, singer, and actor Sandra Bernhard first appeared on AHS in the Season 8 episode, “Sojourn,” and is returning for Season 11 in the regular role of Fran, continuing her working relationship with Ryan Murphy that also includes Pose. She also worked with Martin Scorsese on 1982’s The King of Comedy, stole the show from Bruce Willis in 1991’s Hudson Hawk, appeared alongside Leslie Nielsen in 1998’s Wrongfully Accused, and is well known for her recurring roles on shows like Roseanne, The L Word, and 2 Broke Girls, to name just a few.

Isaac Powell (Theo)

Yet another AHS and Broadway veteran in the Season 11 cast — as Theo — is Isaac Powell, who just made his feature film debut in 2021 with the cinematic adaptation of the Tony winner, Dear Evan Hansen. Before then, he was seen on an episode of the 2018 Murphy Brown revival, an episode of Amazon Prime’s romantic anthology Modern Love in 2021, and, also in 2022, appeared in the coming-of-age crime thriller movie, Susie Searches.

Denis O’Hare (Henry)

Playing Henry is longtime AHS veteran and three-time Emmy nominee Denis O’Hare, who has other creepy and fantastic shows under his belt like True Blood and The Nevers on HBO, and Starz’s American Gods, as well as movies under the same category like 2009’s Quarantine, 2014’s The Town That Dreaded Sundown and found footage thriller The Pyramid, along with Shudder’s 2018 Lizzie Borden biopic, Lizzie. O’Hare actually has a very eclectic filmography that also includes Oscar winners like Dallas Buyers Club and Michael Clayton, and fun comedies like Garden State, The Proposal, and Late Night.

Patti LuPone (Kathy)

Yet another veteran of theatre, American Horror Story, and other works by Ryan Murphy is Patti Lupone, who plays Kathy on Season 11 and landed her first credited feature film role in Steven Spielberg’s 1941 before going on to star in Oscar darlings like Witness and Driving Miss Daisy. Her most notable, previous small-screen credits include a main role on suburban drama Life Goes On, recurring sports on Oz and Penny Dreadful, playing herself on HBO’s Girls, and, also in 2022, she can be seen in Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil.

Sis (Dunaway)

Making her American Horror Story debut in the role of Dunaway is Sis, who has one other screen acting credit to her name — the brief, unnamed role of “Employee” on Season 4 of the TBS sitcom, The Last O.G. in 2021. The transgender actor also made history that year when she was cast in the role of Ado Annie in a Broadway tour of Oklahoma! 

Kyle Beltran (Morris)

Another young theater performer making his AHS debut — as Morris — is Kyle Beltran, who actually made his screen acting debut more than a decade ago with two episodes of the CBS drama, Unforgettable, which he followed with a guest spot on Showtime’s The Big C before landing his first feature film in the form of 2016’s Equity. That same year, he appeared on the acclaimed web series Horace and Pete, only to return to screen acting four years later by lending his voice to The Shivering Truth and, the next year, two episodes of OWN’s David Makes Man before joining Netflix’s Inventing Anna cast earlier in 2022.

While AHS favorites like Sarah Paulson and Even Peters are nowhere to be found this year, I think fans should have no trouble warming to the talented newcomers in the American Horror Story Season 11 cast.
