Armie Hammer’s life took a major turn in 2021 after he became embroiled in a situation involving leaked DMs that featured sexual content and cannibalistic fantasies. Shortly after, Hammer faced accusations of sexual assault and emotional abuse, though he was never formally charged with any offenses. The actor’s career has been mostly stagnant since, though he’s teamed up with director Uwe Boll for a new film that’s since been banned in Germany. Now, Boll is explaining his reasons for hiring the “canceled” Hammer.

Boll and Hammer are teaming up for Citizen Vigilante, an action film that sees Hammer playing a man looking to take the law into his own hands. As of late, Boll has been promoting his latest film and discussing his rationale for crafting the story. The BloodRayne helmer recently spoke to The Telegraph UK, during which he discussed the topic of Hammer’s casting. As the German filmmaker explained to the outlet, his thought process for bringing the Social Network star onto his movie was relatively straightforward:

After the allegations and leaked texts, Hammer saw several career setbacks, including a severing of ties from talent agency WME. He was also dropped from Jennifer Lopez’s Shotgun Wedding along with the film Billion Dollar Spy and the Paramount+ limited series The Offer. Ahead of that situation boiling over, Hammer landed roles in high-profile films like Call Me by Your Name, Nocturnal Animals and The Birth of a Nation. Boll further emphasized the lack of charges against Hammer and what he found appealing about him:

As it stands, though, citizens in Boll’s native country of Germany won’t be able to see his star’s performance film due to the aforementioned banning. The film has been barred from being released in the region due to its high level of violence. Additionally, the Telegraph reports that the film has been barred from being screened due to its purported anti-migrant message. (For context, immigrant-perpetrated crimes play a major role in the narrative.)

Uwe Boll has long been known to somewhat stray off the beaten path when it comes to some of the creative decisions he makes with his film. While many of the filmmaker’s flicks have been met with negative reviews and tepid box office numbers, he continues to work using his specific sensibilities. That also seems to include casting whomever he sees fit for his films. On that note, Boll apparently has a desire to work with other stars who’ve been married in controversies, and he even named a specific Oscar winner:

In the years since Armie Hammer’s troubles occurred, he’s been real about the cannibalism controversy, and he’s even expressed a level of gratitude for it all playing out. The reason he says he feels “grateful” now is because before everything happened, he was in a place in his life in which he “didn’t feel good” or “satisfied.” Hammer now feels he’s in a place where he can give himself “self-validation” after years of having been unable to do so.

This new film with Uwe Boll marks a significant professional step for its star and it also signifies something of a full-circle moment for Armie Hammer. Originally titled The Dark Knight during pre-production, Citizen Vigilante sees Hammer finally getting to play a crusader of sorts years after he was linked to the role of Batman. Make no mistake, though, as Hammer’s character in this latest film is quite different from the brooding hero of Gotham City, and it sounds like Boll is happy with the work his leading man put in.

Citizen Vigilante is set to open in select theaters and on digital platforms on June 19 amid the 2026 movie schedule.

Hollywood press tours can be chaotic enough without a little extracurricular activity in the mix. But according to Armie Hammer, there was at least one junket where things went hilariously off the rails. In a recent Podcast episode, the actor shared a story from before the 2025 movie schedule, recalling how he was effectively banned from promotional appearances, likely for Disney’s The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp, after getting the Pirates of the Caribbean star “super stoned” before a press day.

On the July 28 episode of his Armie HammerTime podcast, the actor chatted with his assistant and cohost, Ashton Ramsey, about the “most trouble” he’d ever gotten into on a set. As Ramsey put it:

Ramsey teed up the story by calling it “the most trouble that you ever got into,” recalling that The Social Network actor had essentially gotten Depp “super stoned” before the day’s interviews. The Call Me By Your Name star said the incident had immediate consequences:

Hammer didn’t elaborate on how Depp reacted in the moment, but it’s not hard to imagine the studio wanting its leads alert and ready for hours of repetitive press questions.

The 38-year-old The Man from U.N.C.L.E. actor didn’t name the project outright, but the timing — along with multiple mentions of working with Depp during the same conversation — strongly suggests he was referring to 2013’s The Lone Ranger, available to stream with a Disney+ subscription. In that film, he and the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star shared top billing, and the Crisis actor recalled that during that period he was “smoking upwards of 15 to 20 joints a day” and often tried to get others just as high:

This isn’t the first eyebrow-raising headline for Armie Hammer, who’s weathered everything from highly controversial allegations — including claims of cannibalistic fantasies — to sexual assault accusations. However, those specific claims never led to legal action. He’s spoken openly about the heightened cannibal rumors, as well as revealing painful experiences with childhood sexual abuse and a past suicide attempt. These days, the Los Angeles-born performer says he can look back on that turbulent chapter with a bit more humor. Whether or not The Lone Ranger press team truly had to keep its two stars on opposite sides of the junket schedule forever, the story now lives on as one of those only-in-Hollywood anecdotes, part cautionary tale, part comedy. It’s a reminder that even the most carefully managed movie campaigns can go sideways when off-screen chemistry turns into off-script behavior.

Armie Hammer’s first big-screen role post-controversy, Frontier Crucible with William H. Macy, does not yet have a set release date, but it wrapped in January, so it's safe to say that if it doesn't land this year, the 2026 movie schedule is a pretty safe bet.

Kate Hudson - Alex & Emma

Films with stories within stories are often a good place to find actors playing multiple roles, as is the case with Kate Hudson in Alex & Emma. In the "real" story, Hudson plays Emma, a stenographer helping Alex (Luke Wilson) complete his novel. As Alex and Emma work on the story, viewers are taken inside the story of a novel where both Wilson and Hudson play characters in the novel. Hudson, in fact, plays four different versions of a nanny in the book.

Michael J. Fox - Back To The Future Part II

While nothing will ever live up to the original Back To The Future, Back To The Future Part II is still pretty fun. One of the things that make it so is Michael J. Fox playing Marty (of course), and his son Marty, Jr., and his daughter Marlene in the movie. Thomas F. Wilson, who plays Biff Tannen, also plays multiple roles in the movie as the various members of the Tannen family.

Jodie Comer - Free Guy

This one is a little bit of a fudge, because in Free Guy, Jodie Comer is playing her character and her character's avatar. So in some ways they are kind of, sort of the same character. Still, she plays the roles different and for that reason, she deserves to be on this list.

Rory Kinnear - Men

Men is an odd movie, but in a good way. Rory Kinnear is what makes it unique. On the surface, Kinnear plays the owner of an inn in a small town, but he also plays most of the rest of the men in the town, all of whom are pretty odd characters.

Lupita Nyong'o - Us

Jordan Peele's horror classic Us features all of the cast members playing both their main character and "Tethered" character with that excellent cast being led by Lupita Nyong'o, who plays Addy and Red. It would be fair to put any of the cast members on this list though, about 20 in total, but we don't want to make this whole list about Us, despite how great it is.

Paul Dano - There Will Be Blood

It'll come as no surprise that a few entries on this list are actors playing identical twins in a movie. We had to include Paul Dano as both Paul and Eli Sunday in There Will Be Blood because Dano's performance, especially as the preacher Eli, is transcendent. The final scene between Eli and Daniel (Daniel Day-Lewis) is one of the most intense scenes ever to appear in a film.

Scarlett Johansson - Astroid City

Director Wes Anderson's Astroid City has a movie within a movie telling the story of the movie. As such, and as you'd probably expect, there are a few actors playing both their "real life" characters and the actors playing them in the movie inside the movie. Scarlett Johansson plays both Midge Campbell and the actor playing Midege, Mercedes. Jason Schwartzman also plays two roles, as do Matt Dillon, Maya Hawke, and others.

George Burns - Oh, God! You Devil

The legendary George Burns played God in not one, but three movies in the Oh God series. In the third installment, he added another character, the Devil. The best scene in the movie comes when God and the Devil play a game of poker for the soul of Bobby Shelton, played by Ted Wass.

Bette Midler And Lily Tomlin - Big Business

Movies about twins separated at birth have been popular in Hollywood forever, but in 1988, director Jim Abrahams upped the ante with two sets of twins separated at birth. Lily Tomlin and Bette Midler are two sets of sisters who discover they were separated from their identical twin. It's a decent movie that hasn't really been remembered by many movie fans.

Eddie Murphy - Coming To America

Of course, we had to include Eddie Murphy on this list! There are multiple movies where the great comedian plays multiple roles, but in the interest of brevity, we're just including the best Eddie Murphy movie, Coming To America. Murphy's main character, Prince Akeem, is the only one that he plays in the movie. Clarence, the barber, is also Murphy, as is Saul, the guy who just hangs out at the barbershop all day. Finally, Murphy also plays the character you may remember from the "What's Going Down" episode of "That's My Mama," Jackson Heights' own Randy Watson!

Christian Bale - The Prestige

The Prestige is a movie that gets a little lost in director Christopher Nolan's fimography, though, like most of his movies, it's excellent. Nolan teamed up with Christian Bale again on the heels of Batman Begins for this movie about rival magicians. Bale plays Alfred Borden and Borden's assistant, Fallon, who are living with a secret that we'll keep in case you haven't seen the movie.

Mel Brooks - History of the World, Part I

Mel Brooks is a one-man force of nature. Not only did he write, direct, and str in most of his movies, but he usually played multiple roles as well. One of the best examples was in History of the World, Part I, where he plays four characters, one in each segment of the film.

Tilda Swinton - Suspiria

There is little that Tilda Swinton can't do, including playing multiple roles in movies. She first did it in 2002's Teknolust, before playing oddball twins in the Coen Brothers' Hail, Caesar! In Suspiria, she plays three roles, Madame Blanc, Dr. Josef Klemperer, and Mother Helena Markos.

Whether you are at all interested in the bizarre life and career of Armie Hammer or you are a huge Batman fan like me, you probably have heard the news of the actor’s first post-controversy role in an upcoming movie called The Dark Knight. No, that is not a typo and I meant to write the word “night.” The Social Network star is aiming to make a comeback in a project synonymous with one of the best live-action Batman movies ever made.

According to Variety, the film from writer and director Uwe Boll (known for helming many critically reviled movies based on video games) is described as a vigilante thriller, yet executive producer Michael Roesch assures that this Dark Knight is “very different from [Christopher] Nolan’s movie, so there is no danger of confusion.” Even if that is true (the inevitable “confusion” notwithstanding), this upcoming superhero movie does share a loose but intriguing connection to a certain DC character that not many people are talking about. Allow me to enlighten you, or at least refresh your memory, about it.

Armie Hammer Almost Played Batman

One of the most infamous cancelled comic book movies is Justice League: Mortal, which was to be helmed by Academy Award-nominated visionary George Miller before a myriad of circumstances, including the 2008 Writers’ Strike, led to its premature demise, according to MovieWeb. Had the film not been shelved, we could have seen a unique take on the DC superhero collective staring future Shazam! actor Adam Brody as The Flash, future Mad Max: Fury Road star Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, and as Batman… Armie Hammer.

Yes, years before 2010s-era movie classics like The Social Network in 2010 and 2017’s Call Me By Your Name made him a star, the actor’s mainstream breakthrough almost came sooner when he was cast as George Miller’s Bruce Wayne. So, this is technically the second time that Hammer was up to play “The Dark Knight.” Call me overzealous but I think it might also be the last.

This Is Likely The Closest Armie Hammer Will Come To Fulfilling That Lost Opportunity

In 2017, Armie Hammer claimed he was glad Justice League: Mortal never happened since he was only 19 at the time but did say, in 2019, that he would jump at the chance to play the lead of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which ultimately went to Robert Pattinson. Of course, the opportunity to play the Caped Crusader is currently back on with James Gunn and co. looking to cast the official iteration for the DCU (which exists outside of the Batman Epic Crime Saga) but I don’t think there is a chance of Hammer getting that call.

For those unaware, the actor’s career took a steep decline in 2021 following allegations of sexual assault and cannibalism that led him to seek treatment for issues involving sex, drug addiction, and alcoholism. While the charges against him were dropped after an investigation, the road he went down is still a hard one to come back from, and the fact that an Uwe Boll movie is meant to be his comeback picture should say a lot about the state of his career. Subsequent evidence has shown that Hammer could have made a good Batman but this Dark Knight is probably the best consolation he will receive.

Will I Watch Armie Hammer In Uwe Boll's The Dark Knight?

Even before the horrifying allegations against him came out, I was never really a huge champion for Armie Hammer, despite enjoying his performances in movies like Sorry to Bother You, the spy movie classic (in my opinion) The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and the underrated Free Fire. On top of that, I have never seen an Uwe Boll movie because I have been warned against the idea by multiple sources.

So, in other words, I do not think I will be going out of my way to see The Dark Knight, which begins shooting in Croatia relatively soon. Then again, speaking as someone who religiously keeps tabs on superhero movies and any upcoming titles related to Batman and considering the strange connections between this film and the character, I have to admit that I am somewhat intrigued.

You know, despite Hammer’s controversies and Boll’s negative reputation in the filmgoing community, I would not be surprised if The Dark Knight becomes an ironic hit, because of curiosity to see how it will turn out or the potential fun in pointing out any shameless rip-offs from the similarly-named Nolan movie. That being said, I wonder how soon it will be forced to change its name.

The script for The Dark Knight, which was written by Boll, will have Hammer’s character becoming a social media sensation and hero to the public following his vigilante acts. So… it's very much like Batman. Boll is a German filmmaker who is known for making 2005’s Alone In The Dark, an adaption of one of the great video games, which is thought of as one of the worst movies ever made – especially considering its 1% Rotten Tomatoes score.

What The Internet Is Saying About Armie Hammer’s Upcoming Movie

Following word that Armie Hammer is heading back to the movies for The Dark Knight, the internet has a lot of thoughts about the project. As one person wrote on Twitter:

After Hammer’s past few years in the public eye, one might think the actor might play into his reputation a bit with the next role he gets. Instead, he is going the opposite way playing a hero-type. Some people just can’t get over the title and how similar it sounds to a Batman movie.

The Call Me By Your Name actor spoke in the past about the idea that he was "grateful" for that situation exploding on the public sphere in the way that it forced him to step back and reassess his life and his actions. And when talking to Tom Segura, he expanded on that idea and talked about how he may have unconsciously taken things too far in his personal life specifically so it would all come out. Here's how he explained that line of thinking:

For the record, Armie Hammer married Elizabeth Chambers back in 2010, and their separation went public in 2020, months prior to the text message leaks. She shared her take on having to go through a life-changing break-up that was such a headline-maker at the time, all while the cannibal rumors and assault allegations were making waves. The next feature fans will see Armie Hammer in will presumably be Frontier Crucible, a western drama directed by Travis Mills that also co-stars William H. Macy and Thomas Jane. It’s already been filmed and is reportedly in post-production.

Fans of superheroes have had it good for the last couple of decades. Between all the upcoming Marvel movies and upcoming DC movies fans are wanting for very little, but for all the movies that we’ve had, there are some that we’ll never see. One of the more exciting superhero movie concepts of the last decade was the now-scrapped Justice League: Mortal, and now I’m wishing even more that it had happened.

Justice League: Mortal was going to be George Miller’s foray into the superhero genre, and the movie came remarkably close to happening. All the major roles in the film had been cast, which included Mad Max’s Toecutter (and future Immortan Joe) Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter. On Instagram, some images recently dropped showing Keays-Byrne doing what is likely a screen test in full makeup as the character, and it looks awesome.

We had seen concept art of Justice League Mortal characters before, but this is one of few images of what the actual actors would have looked like in their roles. The shot of Hugh Keays-Byrne in the makeup chair are almost frustrating considering he likely went through hours of time in the chair for a screen test that would ultimately lead to nothing. Justice League: Mortal would end up getting shelved and we’ll never see it.

Justice League: Mortal came remarkably close to actually happening. The movie had been fully cast, which included Armie Hammer as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Adam Brody as The Flash, and D.J. Cotrona as Superman. Usually when a movie gets to the casting stage, it’s a pretty sure thing, but that wasn’t the case here.

Reportedly, Warner Bros. wasn’t happy with the script and thought it needed work. Unfortunately, this happened during the 2007-2008 WGA strike, so no work could be done on the screenplay. There was also a need to start filming at a certain time to receive financial rebates from the Australian government. The contracts on the cast lapsed before a script could be completed, the start date was missed, and the movie ultimately never recovered.

Maybe Justice League: Mortal wasn’t going to be the greatest superhero movie ever, but George Miller has a remarkably strong track record as a director. From live-action to animation and from family films to action, Miller has found success in just about everything he’s attempted, so seeing him do his particular take on a superhero movie is an incredibly enticing idea.

It’s not all bad news. Adam Brody and D.J. Cotrona got their chance to play superheroes in the Shazam! movies. George Miller would go on to make Mad Max: Fury Road, which may not have even happened if Justice League: Mortal had been a massive hit. And considering the state that Armie Hammer’s career is currently in, not having him play Batman was probably a good thing in the end. Still, this is a movie I will always wish I had seen.

Three years after Armie Hammer was accused of sexual assault and sending texts that expressed cannibalistic desires, he’s opening up about his situation and what he’s been through. This included him addressing claims that Robert Downey Jr. paid for him to go to rehab. While he dispelled those rumors, he did explain how the Marvel actor supported him.

On an episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored, the titular host asked Hammer point-blank about a lot of sensitive topics. This included him addressing reports from about two years ago that Downey had paid for him to go to rehab. He checked into rehab in the spring of 2021, and about a year after that, it was reported that RDJ helped finance it. When asked directly about it, the Call Me By Your Name actor said:

Morgan followed that comment up by asking if RDJ has been “supportive” of Hammer, to which he responded by saying:

The host then quickly stated “You don’t seem convinced” in response to Hammer’s answer. He said that this was “well reported,” and many people had heard about it. To that point, The Social Network actor responded with:

Keeping up the precedent of asking Hammer blunt questions, Morgan questioned if Downey was “one of” the people who had supported him. The actor responded with a “yes,” and then explained how the Iron Man star will seek out and help many folks who are in the process of handling and healing from addiction. He said:

That was followed up with Morgan asking about the advice RDJ gave Hammer. In response, he said:

When asked if Leonardo DiCaprio or Julia Roberts reached out to him, Armie Hammer said they didn’t. Then, when Morgan questioned him for names of actors who had contacted him, the Death on the Nile performer said that Luca Guadagnino, who directed him on Call Me By Your Name, has been supportive, and that he’s communicated with Johnny Depp. Adding to that, he explained that he knows his situation is “precarious” and “inflammatory,” so anyone who supports him “comes under fire.”

In 2022, it was reported that he was selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands amid the controversy. Then, in May 2023, it was announced that Armie Hammer wouldn’t face sexual assault charges in Los Angeles. Overall, throughout this situation, he’s kept a relatively low profile. However, more recently, he’s opened up about what’s happened. He explained that he’s “grateful” for the controversy now, and this most recent interview with Morgan is over an hour of him answering questions about what’s happened over the last three years.

It seems 2024 is the year we get answers after the ongoing rumors that Armie Hammer was into cannibalism. After an ex of the actor explained the bizarre situation in more detail back in January, we now have some words from Hammer himself about the whole fiasco. He appeared on a podcast, and in a surprising turn of events, explained why he feels grateful for the drama in hindsight. 

A year after being cleared of sexual assault charges and the internet reading leaked messages detailing the actor's fetish fantasies of cannibalism and BDSM, Armie Hammer spoke to Painful Lessons about the whole experience. Hammer talked about what it was like to be at the center of it all, quitting movies he was a part of and reckoning with the idea that people believed he was a cannibal. The actor laid it all out, saying

Hammer's ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers, who left the actor when the initial accusations of sexual assault against him surfaced, has also said going through that during the end of their marriage was absolute hell. As such, it isn't hard to believe that the actor looks back on it as such a bizarre time, especially without the threat of any legal repercussions looming over him.

On the other side of it, Armie Hammer has apparently found happiness in 2024. That may seem like a confusing statement considering he lost work in movies like Next Goal Wins as a result, but the actor explained why he feels that way now, saying

Armie Hammer has evidently found a way to heal following his controversy, but there's a real question of whether he'll get back to Hollywood with these problems in the rearview. As of writing the actor doesn't have any major movies in the works, and the actor said later in the podcast that his career is "nowhere now," and implied he's not welcome back in the Hollywood circles he once was offered gigs.

While the odds of Armie Hammer ever returning for a Man From UNCLE sequel feels low, he is apparently writing a screenplay with a friend. He may eventually make a return down the road, but even if he doesn't, it seems the actor has found peace in addressing his various addictions and other issues in the time since the whole controversy surrounding him began. 

Ultimately, the actor engaged in a 12-step program in an effort to battle everything he was up against, and based on his statements in the recent interview, it seems he has made progress. It's unclear if the progress will ever be enough to resurrect his Hollywood career, but we're in uncharted territory here. I'd imagine not many celebrities were accused of cannibalism in their lifetimes.

The story of Armie Hammer’s fall from grace is well known at this point, but one person who hasn’t been heard from or talked about nearly as much is Elizabeth Chambers, the ex-wife of Hammer. The couple was already going through a divorce when the allegations against the actor broke. In a new show, Chambers admits that the experience was hell.

Elizabeth Chambers is part of the new Freeform docuseries Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise, where she speaks (via PageSix) about the experience of her divorce from Armie Hammer. The pair had already filed for divorce, ending their marriage of 10 years after moving to Grand Cayman, but the allegations against Hammer, which included claims of sexual misconduct and an accusation of rape against the actor, made things much more public, and much worse for Chambers. She explained…

The firestorm surrounding Armie Hammer happened in 2021 when an anonymous woman on Instagram posted texts that were alleged to have come from the actor. They revealed violent sexual fantasies including cannibalism. Chambers admits that everything that came out in the media was news she wasn’t aware of, so she had to learn about it all along with the public.

The divorce of a public figure is almost always a spectacle in one degree or another, but this obviously changed the state of the divorce proceedings drastically. The divorce wasn’t finalized until June 2023, almost three years after the process had begun. By that point, the anonymous woman who had posted the texts had accused Armie Hammer of sexual assault. In May 2023 the Los Angeles District Attorney announced the actor would not face charges due to insufficient evidence. 

Hammer gave an interview in February 2023 which was the last time he spoke publicly on the matter. He denied the allegations of rape while attempting to explain the other allegations against him. 

While the divorce proceedings would become more public, Armie Hammer would retreat from the public eye. Hammer was dropped from several film projects he had been attached to. There were rumors he had been working selling timeshares on Grand Cayman as a way to make ends meet. While other stars who have found themselves on the outside of Hollywood have been able to return to acting to one degree or another, that hasn’t happened here, at least not yet.

Armie Hammer’s star was on the rise when allegations of abuse derailed his career in a big way. At this point, it’s been just about two years since the last movie he worked on was released. However, a woman who says she was in a brief relationship with the former actor and apparent part time timeshare salesman, is now talking about her brief experience with the actor, and how he’s handling the stories about him.

Brittany Murphy is a comedian and podcaster who, in the most recent episode of the This is the Worst podcast, reveals that she was in a brief “situationship” with Armie Hammer in the middle of last year. The pair met because Hammer has been going through a sobriety program following allegations of infidelity, rape, and sending texts to women full of cannibalistic fantasies. Murphy explained…

The accusations against Armie Hammer have been quite significant. Back in 2021, an anonymous Instagram account leaked what were allegedly private messages from Armie Hammer requesting violent sexual activity from a partner, including acts of cannibalism. The actor originally denied the texts were his, but Hammer was dropped from all his movie projects at the time.  With the reports being very public, Murphy says she asked Hammer about the cannibalism, and he reportedly had an explanation. Murphy continued… 

The relationship between the two apparently only lasted for a couple of months, but Murphy says she did have experiences with Armie Hammer that at least hinted at some of the things the actor has been accused of. While she stressed that nothing non-consensual took place between them, she claimed Hammer did like to bite her. She explained… 

Of the various allegation against the actor, the most serious was rape. The woman who posted the original texts, known as "Effie" had accused the actor of physical abuse and rape, but the decision was made not to charge Hammer due to insufficient evidence. Armie Hammer recently returned to the headlines last year when a woman in Prague claimed she was engaged to marry Hammer. However, earlier this month she claimed the relationship was over. One thing is clear: we shouldn't expect him to appear in any 2024 movies. 

Armie Hammer had a prominent acting career gaining wide recognition in The Social Network and a Golden Globe nomination for his role in Call Me By Your Name. But January 2021 changed everything for him when an anonymous Instagram account House of Elfie made allegations about leaked messages Hammer allegedly sent that involved cannibalistic requests. As these rumors led Hammer to drop out of many upcoming projects, Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins is the next movie to repeat this controversial trend.

Last January, an anonymous Instagram account House of Elfie claimed that Armie Hammer sent her DMs requesting graphic, sexual activity with hints of cannibalism. The Social Network actor denied the accusations, calling them “bullshit claims.” The controversy towards the acclaimed actor didn’t stop there as sexual assault allegations against Hammer followed, with one woman saying she reportedly suffered violent abuse from Hammer and thought he was going to kill her. Another accuser told Page Six she was reportedly subjected to emotional abuse from the J. Edgar actor and attended a PTSD hospitalization program as a result of the relationship. Following the allegations, Hammer dropped out of many film projects, with his next one being Taika Waititi’s latest movie.

Armie Hammer Was Originally Supposed To Be In Next Goal Wins 

One of Armie Hammer’s upcoming movies was Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins based on the true story of the American Samoa national football team trying to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. According to Deadline, Arrested Development’s Will Arnett has replaced Hammer’s role as the team’s executive Alex Magnussen. Whereas Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World had the then-accused Kevin Spacey completely replaced by Christopher Plummer weeks before the movie’s release, Arnett’s new role was instead expanded. Hammer’s role was originally supposed to be just a cameo appearance before Arnett stepped in. 

Armie Hammer reportedly had to drop out of the project due to the American actor not being available for reshoots. It’s possible that Hammer’s unavailability could have also arisen from news that came not long after that Hammer completed a rehab program in Orlando, Florida. Sources claimed the actor had been in the facility for nine months and was doing fine, but wanted to leave to return to his family. Fortunately, Arnett was able to successfully reshoot his scenes for the new role. 

The Role Getting Recast Is Part Of a Trend Of Armie Hammer’s

Next Goal Wins is just one of the movies that Armie Hammer had to drop out of amongst the personal scandals he went through. He reportedly first left the action rom-com Shotgun Wedding feeling the need to stay with his kids while the allegations occurred, rather than shooting a movie in the Dominican Republic. Hammer’s role as Jennifer Lopez’s leading man Tom Fowler was officially replaced by Josh Duhamel. Then, Hammer dropped out of the Cold War drama Billion Dollar Spy where he would have co-starred with Mads Mikkelsen. 

Next in line with Armie Hammer’s projects was the Sean Penn drama Gaslit co-starring Julia Roberts telling the story of the Watergate Scandal. Hammer was set to play White House counsel member John Dean conflicted about lying to protect the president. The role was replaced by Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens with reasons apparently having nothing to do with Hammer's cannibal text allegation scandals. It was due to scheduling conflicts to be a leading man in the Paramount+ series The Offer which Hammer no longer became a part of either. The final project no longer starring the On the Basis of Sex actor was the Broadway show The Minutes which Hammer said he needed to exit to focus on himself, his health, and be with his family.

Based on the trailer for Next Goal Wins, the American Samoa national football team was considered one of the weakest football teams out there. In order to recover from the brutal 2001 FIFA match, a new coach, played by Michael Fassbender, plans to get this team into top shape for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This may be one of the many projects of Armie Hammer’s absence, but the comedy stylings of Will Arnett should help audiences enjoy themselves watching the biographical sports dramedy. You can watch this 2023 movie release in theaters on November 17th. 

Superhero movies have been a constant in the world of modern Hollywood, and the genre reached its peak popularity with the explosion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With such a storied history, there are obviously going to be stories of actors who didn’t make the cut. But believe us when we tell you the actors on this list who almost played major superhero roles are quite the collection of characters.

Burt Reynolds - Superman - Superman (1977)

A bunch of big name actors turned down the role of Clark Kent/Superman when it came time to make 1977’s Superman feature film. Among those who skipped this early era of cape action is the legendary Burt Reynolds. The decision seemed to work out in the end, as that same year saw Smokey and the Bandit become one of his most iconic hits.

Demi Moore - Supergirl - Supergirl (1984)

Early in her career, Demi Moore had a chance to become a part of the Superman franchise. She auditioned alongside Brooke Shields for the lead in Supergirl, though Helen Slater would eventually win the part. Moore then almost played the supporting role of Lucy Lane but passed, as she was about to go from being on General Hospital to starring in the Brat Pack era of films, including About Last Night…

Pierce Brosnan - Batman - Batman (1989)

There are quite a few actors that have done the dance of fate with both superhero movies and the James Bond movies. One of the most surprising, besides Burt Reynolds turning down 007, was Pierce Brosnan testing for Tim Burton’s Batman. Brosnan admitted he blew it, especially since he criticized the wardrobe choices of Bruce Wayne’s darker alter-ego.

Annette Bening - Catwoman - Batman Returns (1992)

Annette Bening was almost Catwoman, believe it or not. The original choice for that role in Batman Returns, Bening seemed set to be a part of the film. That is until the actress found out she was pregnant and had to bow out of the part. It’s ok though, as Burton found a more than willing successor in Michelle Pfieffer, who practically signed on after reading half of the script. 

Marlon Wayans - Robin - Batman Returns (1992)

Marlon Wayans is the Bobby Bonilla of the superhero movie world. Just as Bobby continues to be paid not to play for the Mets, Wayans still gets royalties for not playing Robin in Batman Returns. Due to the roster of characters in Tim Burton’s 1992 sequel being trimmed, Wayans never took flight as the hero.

Dougray Scott - Wolverine - X-Men (2000)

Out of the 13 actors that almost played Wolverine in X-Men, Dougray Scott was the one that got the closest. Scott was actually cast in the iconic pre-MCU film and was so close to getting to pop those Adamantium claws. If he hadn’t suffered injuries and scheduling conflicts from the tail end of Mission: Impossible II, we would've seen different Logan in action. 

Rachel Leigh Cook - Rogue - X-Men (2000)

Brace yourself for a weird loop of coincidence. She’s All That star Rachel Leigh Cook turned down the role of Rogue in 2000’s X-Men. Who did the role end up going to? Academy Award winner Anna Paquin… the actor who gave Cook's character that memorable makeover in the aforementioned teen comedy. Maybe Paquin has some mutant career powers that nobody’s ever noticed before. As for Cook, she eventually admitted that she totally blew it by passing on this classic adventure.

Leonardo DiCaprio - Spider-Man - Spider-Man (2002)

James Cameron’s unmade Spider-Man movie would have gone in some wild directions. Perhaps what fans discuss most is the fact that if he were to have made the movie, Leonardo DiCaprio would have been his Peter Parker! While that’s not the most shocking aspect, especially if you’ve actually read the script, it’s certainly something that feels pretty interesting considering where Cameron and DiCaprio’s careers would go after that point. 

Kate Winslet - Elektra - Daredevil (2003)

There was a wide net cast when looking to fill the role of Elektra in 2003’s Daredevil. Lucy Liu, Salma Hayek and even Katie Holmes were all considered; as was Titanic alum Kate Winslet. Considering her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio almost played Spider-Man for James Cameron, could Winslet have also been considered for Mary Jane Watson had that movie gotten off the ground? 

Ashley Judd - Catwoman - Catwoman (2004)

Development hell can wreck a movie before it ever shoots a single frame. Michelle Pfieffer's intended Catwoman spinoff, for example, eventually mutated into a standalone film. And somewhere in-between Pfieffer’s variant being iced and Halle Berry’s infamous final product being made, Ashley Judd was meant to play the character in the early aughts. According to the Daily Haggis, Judd dropped out in favor of a stage play; which was probably the better move.

Cillian Murphy - Batman - Batman Begins (2005)

Beginning his stint as one of the actors in the most Christopher Nolan movies, Cillian Murphy played Scarecrow in Batman Begins and was a menacing presence to behold. And yet, the Irish actor initially tried out for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman; going as far as doing screen tests in and out of the Batsuit. While it was admitted that he wasn’t a good fit for the lead role, Nolan did use Murphy’s audition to cast him as Dr. Jonathan Crane; and the rest was history.

Tom Cruise - Iron Man - Iron Man (2008)

You knew this was coming. When the MCU fired up its arc reactor in 2008, Robert Downey Jr. was there front and center to make Iron Man a mega hit. Of course, the studio needed to be convinced that Downey was the way to go, as there were powers that be who wanted the Mission: Impossible daredevil as the lead. Cruise turned down the part, while at the same time the Tony Stark we knew and loved had enough people in his corner to make it happen. 

Emily Blunt - Black Widow - Iron Man 2 (2010)

It’s time to revisit one of the cruelest villains ever: contractual obligations! Back when Iron Man 2 was getting into gear, the then up-and-coming Emily Blunt was offered the role of Natalie Rushman… who was eventually revealed to be Natasha Romanova, the Black Widow. Unfortunately, this was the first of Blunt’s two Marvel passes; with this part going to Scarlett Johansson after Emily had to fulfill her obligation to star in 2010’s Gulliver’s Travels. 

Daniel Craig - Baldur The Brave - Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)

The worlds of James Bond and superhero culture have collided before, thanks to Daniel Craig’s rumored Thor casting being debunked. What isn’t as sketchy is the claim that Craig almost played Baldur the Brave in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. And if you need anyone to further firm up this claim, just ask Elizabeth Olsen, who actually saw Craig’s costume after it was designed.

Joe Jonas - Spider-Man - The Amazing Spider-Man (2011)

One of the greatest heartbreaks in Joe Jonas’ career as an actor is still that time he almost landed the lead role in The Amazing Spider-Man. Jonas recalled his Marvel auditions as well as the tragic turn the situation took when Andrew Garfield landed the role, and it’s hard not to feel for the dude. Then again, Jonas may have dodged a bullet, considering where that series went.

John Krasinski - Captain America - Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

One of the hot prospects for the casting of Captain America was appropriately a man who’s clearly cut out for the role of an American boy scout -- John Krasinski. Though The Office star failed to secure the bag as Steve Rogers, he did go on to play the similarly patriotic lead of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Oh yeah… and he was a Multiversal Reed Richards in Doctor Strange 2 as well. 

Morena Baccarin - Maria Hill - The Avengers (2012)

Joss Whedon sure does have a deep bench of talent he loves to pull from. Firefly alum Morena Baccarin knows that fact, as she auditioned for The Avengers to play the role of Maria Hill. Though she stayed in the extended MCU family through Deadpool, Baccarin admitted she tanked the audition because she didn’t get Hill’s character on the page.

Jamie Dornan - Superman - Man of Steel (2013)

Mr. Kent will see you now. If history shook out a bit differently, maybe Henry Cavill would've played the lead in Fifty Shades of Grey, and Jamie Dornan would have been the Man of Steel lead that kicked off the DC Extended Universe. But that’s not the multiverse we live in, as we’re now wondering if these two will be competing for another massive pop culture role: that of James Bond.

Amanda Seyfried - Gamora - Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

If it wasn’t for Amanda Seyfried questioning whether or not Guardians of the Galaxy would be the first Marvel movie to bomb, she might have accepted the role of Gamora. However, it’s those doubts that kept her out of James Gunn’s 2014 blockbuster; a fact that Seyfried admits she was “very wrong” about.

Glenn Howerton - Star-Lord - Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

It’s more than an implication that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Glenn Howerton was almost cast as Star-Lord. It’s been pretty much confirmed by James Gunn that Howerton would have been his next choice, had Chris Pratt not signed on. The only thing more interesting is how “the Golden God” himself wasn’t considered to play Adam Warlock.

Lindsay Lohan - Scarlet Witch - Avengers: Age Of Ultron (2015)

Back in the days of her docu-series Lindsay, this Mouse House graduate thought her manager cost her a role in an Avengers movie. Well, if the timing of that 2014 project was any indication, the whispers of Lindsay Lohan being up for the part of Scarlet Witch just may have been true. 

Olga Kurylenko - Wonder Woman - Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

If there are two stars that need to be interviewed together about their careers, it’s Gal Gadot and Olga Kurylenko. Apparently, they both competed for lead roles in Quantum of Solace and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice; with Kurylenko ultimately getting the Bond experience and Gadot snagging the Lasso of Truth.

Asa Butterfield - Spider-Man - Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Remember that time the world was convinced Asa Butterfield was the new Spider-Man? It happened, and the Sex Education lead apparently did test for the role in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Though his bid was unsuccessful, it’s hard not to admit he’d have made a good candidate had Tom Holland not eventually landed the role.

Emma Roberts - Harley Quinn - Suicide Squad (2016)

Apparently, the world has Fox’s now defunct shriek-com Scream Queens for taking Emma Roberts away from Suicide Squad. Roberts chose that TV gig over becoming the living embodiment of mayhem, leaving the role wide open for Margot Robbie to accept, and own, the role of Harley Quinn for years to come.

Josh Brolin - Batman - Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

Ben Affleck had some stiff competition for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’s Caped Crusader; and Josh Brolin was one of those competitors. But just as those hopes of Bryan Cranston as Lex Luthor and Timothy Dalton as Alfred didn’t pan out, Brolin lost the gig. With that, another major "what if" casting scenario was created.

Ryan Gosling - Doctor Strange - Doctor Strange (2016)

Yes, it’s true: Ryan Gosling took a meeting back in the Phase Three days of the MCU. The Mickey Mouse Club alum was considered to play Dr. Steven Strange himself. It’s hard to tell which missed opportunity is the more intriguing what if: this, or Gosling’s failed attempt to make a Haunted Mansion movie with Guillermo del Toro.

DeWanda Wise - Maria Rambeau - Captain Marvel (2019)

Getting cast in a superhero movie like Captain Marvel, only to have to bow out, has to be a painful feeling. DeWanda Wise is another case of such history in action, as she was supposed to play Maria Rambeau opposite Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers. Sean Young - Catwoman - Batman Returns (1992)

David Duchovny - Batman - Batman & Robin (1997)

There was a bit of a holding pattern between the success of Batman Forever and the accelerated timeline to make Batman & Robin. In that chaos, Val Kilmer exited the role, and a new Bats needed to be found. The X-Files' David Duchovny was one of the candidates considered, but the spooky man lost out on the role to George Clooney. A fate that Mr. Clooney still apologizes for, to this very day.

Armie Hammer - Batman - Justice League: Mortal (2007)

Tax rebates! That’s what caused the cancellation of George Miller’s Justice League: Mortal, which was pretty far along in pre-production for a movie to be given the axe. With Armie Hammer cast as Batman for this big blockbuster, the Caped Crusader scored yet another intriguing “what if…” when the curtain fell.

Anne Hathaway - Black Cat - Spider-Man 4 (2011)

If Spider-Man 4 had actually happened, it could have been a hell of a sight. With folks like John Malkovich cast, the next intended Sam Raimi-helmed movie could have been a return to the heights of Spider-Man 2. And in that pocket of alternate reality, Anne Hathaway probably didn’t play Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, as she would have played a feline of a different stripe: Felicia Hardy herself, Black Cat. 

Christina Aguilera - Invisible Woman - Fantastic Four (2005)

Prepare for quite possibly the most bizarro alternative casting on this list. Amid development on 2005's Fantastic Four, Sean Astin himself wanted to direct the First Family of Superheroes. And as Astin revealed to Collider, he wanted Christina Aguilera to play Sue Storm a.k.a. the Invisible Woman. There’s got to be a “Genie In A Bottle” joke here somewhere, but we just can’t see it.

As you can see, the world of alternate comic castings has led to some stranger than-fiction-possibilities, near misses and truly heartbreaking passes. You can bet that so long as Marvel, DC, and any other comic company is keeping the pedal to the medal to make more superhero movies, there will be even more of these tales to come along in the years to come.

Timothée Chalamet reteamed with Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino for the cannibalistic romance film Bones and All. The plot of the movie was uncanny as it came out after allegations against Armie Hammer surfaced about disturbing leaked messages he allegedly sent. As the said messages alluded to cannibalism, the Bones and All actor shares his reactions to whether his film was inspired by the allegations against his Call Me By Your Name co-star.

Based on the horrific yet romantic trailer of Bones and All, this romance/horror film is about two young cannibals who develop feelings for each other as they set off on a road trip. You may find it a coincidence that the plot surrounding the Luca Guadagnino movie involved cannibalism as Armie Hammer (who previously worked with Guadagnino) was accused of cannibalism by an anonymous woman. She made claims she was sent violent, graphic texts from The Social Network star allegedly requesting his desire to drink her blood. Bones and All male lead Timothée Chalamet spoke to GQ about what his intentions were for wanting to take on the project.

There you have it. This movie was not a message to be sent out reacting to the Armie Hammer allegations. The intention of Bones and All was to adapt Camille DeAngelis’ haunting coming-of-age book. What hooked Luca Guadagnino into directing the project was he felt it was a beautiful love story and not just a cannibalism film. He said he wasn’t thinking about the horror aspects of the script he read but about two misunderstood kids who fall in love. When the Oscar-nominated director spoke of releasing his movie amidst the Armie Hammer allegations, he responded that they are two completely different things. Guadagnino said he doesn’t engage with social media and worked on this movie years before the allegations broke out.

Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer played forbidden lovers in 1980s Italy for the Oscar-nominated film Call Me By Your Name. When the actor, who can be seen in the upcoming Wonka, was asked about the cannibal allegations against his co-star, here was his response.

The Dune star has never been a fan of social media for that reason as he described it as “societal collapse is in the air.” He found the use of social media a very easy way to receive judgment which is true. Rumors and allegations speak much higher volumes when multiple social media sites report them.

After sexual assault accusations about Armie Hammer surfaced, he dropped out of projects like Shotgun Wedding and Paramount+’s The Offer in order to be there for his children during that time. His talent agency WME dropped him as well as his role in the movie The Billion Dollar Spy. Hammer was also replaced in Taika Waititi's Next Goal Wins. The On the Basis of Sex actor continued to deny the allegations but admitted to AirMail about being an “asshole” towards women and bringing them into a “whirlwind of travel and sex and drugs.” In May, the D.A. concluded that Hammer would not face sexual assault charges in LA due to insufficient evidence.

It may seem like a coincidence that a cannibalistic romance film Bones and All came out around the same time cannibal texts allegedly from Armie Hammer surfaced. Veronica Mars is one of the pivotal shows of the early 2000s. It was a critically acclaimed show with a dedicated fan base. Therefore, of course, many actors and actresses longed to be a part of it. The Veronica Mars actors were also talented and really helped give the show its identity. 

Even the Veronica Mars actors who guest starred added to the show’s appeal. Some of these guest stars and recurring characters were once unknown on Veronica Mars and are now household names. 

Let’s look back at some of the many now well-known actors who once appeared on the show.

Melissa Leo 

Academy Award winner Melissa Leo appears in over a hundred film and television projects. The Fighter earned her her first Oscar but she received critical acclaim and award-season recognition for many performances, including ones in Mildred Pierce, Louie, Prisoners, and Frozen River. 

Leo appeared in Veronica Mars Season 1 Episode 3, “Meet John Smith.” She plays Julia Smith, a transgender woman who reunites with her son after Veronica (Kristen Bell) helps him track her down. 

Jane Lynch 

You can’t think of Jane Lynch without thinking of Sue Sylvester from Glee. Sue is terrible but hilarious and often creates iconic moments with the main cast and the unforgettable Glee guest stars. In 2020, Lynch began hosting a revival of The Weakest Link. She has appeared in Two and a Half Men, Criminal Minds, Party Down (which is also co-created by Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas), Mascots, and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. 

Lynch makes a brief appearance in Veronica Mars Season 1 Episode 6, “Return of the Kane.” She plays Mrs. Donaldson. a faculty member that Veronica approaches about voter rigging at a Neptune High election. 

Jessica Chastain 

As one of the most respected actresses of the last decade, Jessica Chastain has won numerous awards, including an Academy Award. Her first Academy Award happened in 2022 for her performance in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. She also received Academy Award nominations for Zero Dark Thirty and The Help. Her filmography includes A Most Violent Year, Scenes from a Marriage, George and Tammy, and It Chapter Two.

Before Chastain could deliver one of her many great performances, she appeared in Veronica Mars. It was one of her first screen roles. She appears in the 7th episode of Season 1, “The Girl Next Door” as Sarah Williams. Sarah is a neighbor friend of Veronica's who goes missing. 

Aaron Paul 

Aaron Paul became a household name for playing Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad. He also played the character on El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie and Better Call Saul.  Some of Paul’s screen highlights include roles in Truth Be Told, Westworld, The Path, and BoJack Horseman. He’s also had a great cameo or 20 in various projects and made plenty of guest appearances, including in Black Mirror and The Simpsons. 

Paul plays Eddie LaRoche, the main suspect in a murder and disappearance case in Veronica Mars Season 1, Episode 11, “Silence of the Lamb.” His sketchy behavior makes him a likely culprit. 

Anthony Anderson 

Anthony Anderson has created many memorable characters throughout his career. A few include Dre in black-ish, Detective Kevin Bernard in Law & Order, J.D in the Barbershop movies, and Antwon Mitchell in The Shield. He also appeared in Psych, Shameless, Beats, and Scream 4. Anderson has so many great forgotten performances as well.

He plays a gangsta rapper and former criminal named Bone Hamilton in Veronica Mars Season 1, Episode 13, “Lord of the Bling.” He hires Keith (Enrico Colantoni) to help him locate his missing daughter, who also used to be a friend of Veronica.

Adam Scott 

Adam Scott is best known for comedic roles in television shows such as Parks and Recreation, Step Brothers, The Good Place, and Party Down. He’s also the star of the AppleTV+ hit series Severance. 

Scott takes on a much more serious role in Veronica Mars. He plays Mr. Rooks, a teacher that divides Veronica and Keith in Veronica Mars Season 1, Episode 14, “Mars v. Mars. He’s accused of having an affair with a student. Veronica believes that he is innocent, but Keith can’t ignore the evidence. It’s one of the best Veronica Mars episodes. 

Leighton Meester 

Leighton Meester’s performance is the reason Blair Waldorf is such a beloved Gossip Girl character. Her film and TV credits include The Roommate, Single Parents. Life Partners, Making History, The Orville, and How I Met Your Father. 

Meester appears on multiple episodes of Veronica Mars as Carrie Bishop. Her first appearance is in “Mars v. Mars.” Her character accuses Adam Scott’s character of having a secret sexual relationship with her. The character of Carrie Bishop returns in the Veronica Mars movie, but Andrea Estella plays her. 

Tessa Thompson 

Tessa Thompson’s fame really blew up when she started playing Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, she has been in many well-known movies and TV shows. Some of her most popular movies include For Colored Girls, Dear White People, Selma, the Creed franchise, Sorry to Bother You, Passing, and Men In Black: International.

Tessa Thompson may be one of the people on this list that you do remember from Veronica Mars because she was a main character all throughout Season 2. She plays Jackie Cook, the main love interest of Wallace (Percy Daggs III). The character immediately left at the end of Veronica Mars Season 2. 

Taylor Sheridan 

Taylor Sheridan is an actor, director, and screenwriter. He has written many popular movies and TV shows, including Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, 1883, and 1923. He also wrote the screenplay for the films Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River, Without Remorse, and Those Who Wish Me Dead.

Sheridan’s few acting credits include Veronica Mars. He had a recurring role as Danny Boyd in Veronica Mars Season 2. The character first appeared in Veronica Mars Season 2 Episode 8, "Ahoy, Mateys!" His character is part of a notorious crime family in Neptune.

Michael Cera 

Michael Cera may currently best be known for playing Allan in the Barbie movie. Before being the best male in Barbieland, he appeared in Juno, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Arrested Development, Black Mirror, and Life and Beth. 

Cera appears alongside his Arrested Development co-star Alia Shawkat in Veronica Mars. They appear in the episode “The Rapes of Graff” from Season 2. He plays Dean, a student at Hearst College who leads Veronica and Wallace’s tour of the campus

Armie Hammer 

Armie Hammer first stepped into the spotlight by playing the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network. He then appeared in such popular movies as J. Edgar, The Man from U.N.C.L.E, Call Me by Your Name, Sorry to Bother You, and Death on the Nile.

Hammer appears in Veronica Mars Season 3 Episode 3, “Wichita Linebacker.” He plays Kurt Fenstermacher, a football player who may lose his scholarship if he can’t retrieve the team’s playbook that was stolen from him.

Paul Rudd  

It’s hard to imagine anyone who hasn’t heard of Paul Rudd. He’s been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ant-Man. He was Josh in Clueless. Mike in Friends. He’s also been in many iconic comedies such as Wet Hot American Summer, the Anchorman movies, The 40-Year Old Virgin, I Love You Man. He has so many great movies. Rudd has appeared in TV shows such as Parks and Recreation, Party Down, iZombie, and Only Murders in the Building. 

Rudd appears in Veronica Mars Season 3 Episode 17, “Debasement Tapes.” He plays Desmond Fellows, an aging rock star who Piz (Chris Lowell) gets to interview. However, the man is a disaster.

Over two years ago, Armie Hammer was first accused of sexual assault, which led to a lengthy investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department that launched in April. That investigation has now concluded, and it was announced on Wednesday that the case has been dropped. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office has released a statement saying that not enough evidence has been discovered to prove the rape allegations brought against the Call Me By Your Name actor. 

Hammer’s accuser, who has previously been identified as "Effie," reported to the police back in February 2021 that the actor had allegedly been physically abusive to her during their four-year relationship and had raped her in 2017. Armie Hammer denied the allegations. Check out the D.A. office’s statement following the investigation, per Variety: 

Effie’s claims initially went viral when an Instagram account called House of Effie anonymously leaked messages from Hammer writing about his BDSM and cannibalistic fantasies. This was followed by more allegations from other women, and Hammer was dropped from numerous projects he was attached to including being replaced by Josh Duhamel in Shotgun Wedding with Jennifer Lopez, exiting The Offer, and no longer being part of Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins, which is coming out this fall. 

After the allegations, Armie Hammer went to a rehab for months in Orlando, Florida to reportedly be treated for issues related to substance abuse and addiction. He also spent time in the Cayman Islands where he reportedly was working at a resort and selling timeshares. Hammer opened up about what had transpired after the viral messages and sexual abuse allegations in February, sharing details of past sexual abuse and a suicide attempt. 

Regarding the allegations, Hammer has continued to deny them, though he did admit to being an “asshole,” who has been “selfish” and had lived a “very intense and extreme lifestyle” in an interview with AirMail. He recalled bringing women into his life and bringing them into a “whirlwind of travel and sex and drugs” before he would “drop them off and move on to the next woman.” 

With the LAPD unable to find sufficient evidence to charge Hammer, we do wonder what’s next for the actor. His last movie was 2022’s Death on the Nile, which he did not do press for. He is not attached to any 2023 new movie releases or other upcoming Hollywood projects, and last we heard, he was dropped by his talent agent. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about what’s next for Armie Hammer. 

Among the projects that dropped Armie Hammer, following accusations of sexual misconduct and rape was Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins. The sports dramedy is finally coming out this year and is among this fall’s 2023 new movie releases. The movie stars Michael Fassbender as a down-on-his-luck coach, who finds an unlikely job as the leader of the American Samoa national football team, and the trailer (above) is a delight.

Taika Waititi Is Crafting A Funny-Looking Sports Biopic

As Searchlight Pictures' trailer sets up, Dutch-American soccer coach Thomas Rongen (played by Michael Fassbender) begrudgingly takes a job coaching the American Samoa soccer team following its infamous and brutal 31-0 FIFA loss back in 2001. Set to the tune of ABBA’s “Take A Chance On Me,” the footage shows Rongen going to American Samoa to turn the team around all while he drinks his days away and showing doubts of his team’s capabilities. All the while, his players are humorously leery of him as well.

The movie initially wrapped back in early 2020 but, following the Armie Hammer controversy, the actor's role was recast, with Will Arnett taking over. Deadline reported in December 2021 that Arnett would step in for reported reshoots. This occurred months after Hammer went viral over a cannibal text scandal. Arnett plays an executive at the Football Federation American Samoa, who is shown in the trailer to be breaking some bad news to Michael Fassbender’s Rongen. 

What's Going On With Armie Hammer's Situation?

Armie Hammer's situation led the actor to the actor checking himself into a treatment program, and he currently has a case being reviewed by Los Angeles District Attorney. One couldn't have foreseen such a situation impacting the production, and it has definitely taken longer than expected for this movie to see the light of day. Now that have our first look though, Taika Waititi's feel-good comedy seems like it might be worth the wait.

The Social Network alum's role was supposedly a cameo when the movie was initially filmed but, when Will Arnett, stepped in the role was expanded for him. The soccer movie is one of several productions the embattled actor was involved in before dropping out. For example, amidst the controversy, he was replaced by Josh Duhamel in Shotgun Wedding, which was released on Prime Video in January 2023. He also exited Paramount+’s The Offer, and that premiered back in April 2022.  

That drama aside though, Taika Waititi seems to be on top of his game. He's certainly made a name for himself, between writing and directing the What We Do In The Shadows movie and helming the last two Thor movies. He also directed Jojo Rabbit, which won him the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar in 2020. His latest film is based on the 2014 British documentary of the same name, and it received overwhelmingly positive praise when it was released. Let's hope Waititi's adaptation will be a winner, just like the doc and the team itself

Next Goal Wins makes its long-awaited theatrical debut on November 17.

It’s been more than two years since Armie Hammer was first accused of sexual misconduct. Leaked messages from the actor appeared to show him requesting violent sexual activity from a woman who was not his wife. Hammer’s career largely collapsed following the allegations, but his name is now back in the headlines as it appears threw may still be charges of sexual assault in his future. 

CNN reports that the Los Angeles District Attorney is now reviewing a case of sexual assault against Hammer that was recently presented by the LAPD. While the details of the case (including the identity of the alleged victim) are unknown, a woman known only as Effie accused the actor of raping her in 2017 in Los Angeles. So this could very well be the case under review, though it's also possible this is something entirely different. 

Hammer has denied the allegations of sexual assault, but in an interview in February, Hammer spoke at length about his lifestyle, admitting to “pushing envelopes” with his sexual partners, but denied the allegations of assault-- claiming that consent was always important to him. Hammer also confirmed reports that he’s since been to rehab since the allegations surfaced.

Armie Hammer’s career came to a full stop following the allegations against him. He dropped out of the various projects he had been involved in to be replaced by other actors. He was originally going to be a part of the recent Amazon movie Shotgun Wedding with Jennifer Lopez, in the role that was played instead by Josh Duhamel. The last time Hammer was seen on screen was in Death on the Nile, last year. The film’s release was delayed by the pandemic but it was also possible it was delayed to distance itself from the allegations against Hammer.

Following Hammer’s exit from Hollywood there were reports he was allegedly working at a hotel in the Cayman Islands, possibly selling timeshares. Those reports were apparently inaccurate, but it’s also been alleged that Hammer is broke. He was sued by American Express over an unpaid bill, that was apparently the result of his ongoing divorce. His time in rehab was allegedly paid for by Robert Downey Jr. 

We’ll have to wait and see what happens with the legal case against Armie Hammer. Just because the case has been submitted to the D.A. does not necessarily mean charges are coming. It’s possible the District Attorney will decide that there is insufficient evidence to move forward with charges, though the LAPD apparently felt there was enough to move the case along. Whether we'll see Hammer on screen again is yet another question. While we've certainly seen actors' careers recover from serious legal problems, Hammer's are seemingly far from over. 

These past few years have been incredibly tumultuous for Armie Hammer as, in 2021, purported text messages from the actor were leaked online. Said messages included details of sexual fantasies that alluded to cannibalistic actions, rape and more. As time went on, others began to corroborate said DMs, which Hammer said were “bull.” Not too long after, the Hammer was accused of sexual assault by a woman simply identified as Effie. The actor subsequently dropped out of multiple projects and was cut from some as well. Now, Hammer is addressing the misconduct allegations while also opening up baout the child sexual abuse he experienced, an attempted suicide and more. 

During a wide-ranging interview, Armie Hammer got real about the messages, which stem from his participation in B.D.S.M. relationships. Since the DMs were leaked, a number of other stories have surfaced, which allege that the actor did not always receive consent when it came to sexual activities. He now says that this was not the case and that he sought permission from his partners before engaging with them: 

The Social Network alum also claims that his desire for such relationships was, at least partially, born from an encounter he had when he was 13 years old. He says that a youth pastor at his family’s church sexually abused him for nearly a year. The actor would tell his parents about the alleged situation years later, though they apparently scoffed at the idea of a “Man of God” committing such an act. According to AirMail, the star also revealed the situation to a friend, who has since passed away, as well as godmother Candace Garvey, who backed up the claim. When discussing how the purported ordeal impacted him, the Critics’ Choice nominee said: 

Since the allegations against Armie Hammer surfaced, he’s been living a very different kind of life and, at one point, rumors even suggested that he was laying low in the Cayman Islands. Hammer said, during this recent interview, that the situation took its toll on him emotionally. With that, he once engaged in what he referred to as an “attempted suicide”: 

Since the actor’s fall from grace, his reported encounters and interactions with women have been widely discussed. They also serve as the subject of the docuseries House of Hammer, which also sheds light on the Man from U.N.C.L.E. star’s family and the controversies that have befallen them over the years. A number of interviewees contributed to the doc, with his former partner, Courtney Vucekovich, even detailing an alleged biting story. When the series premiered in 2022, it was said that Armie Hammer was bracing himself for it.

Despite everything that’s occurred, the 36-year-old star seems to be in a better position from a mental standpoint. He’s since been to rehab, with his stay reportedly paid for by Robert Downey Jr. The star explained just why he now feels fortunate to have had his experiences:

Only time will tell how the comments on the misconduct allegations are received by those involved in the reported acts. Armie Hammer’s future in the entertainment industry is also still uncertain at this point. If anything though, it’s clear that he wanted to get these details off his chest and ultimately, discuss his account of events.

Namely because he wants to work with the ensemble of actors that brought his original 2017 movie together. But does that include Armie Hammer?

Luca Guadagnino’s comments to Variety come as he’s promoting his upcoming cannibal thriller Bones & All, which also stars Timothée Chalamet. Eventually the conversation turned to the possibility of more Call Me movies, as he had previously expressed interest in a sequel set 15 years later in the 1990’s. Since Guadagnino is so interested, Variety asked if he’d include Armie Hammer's character Oliver in these potential projects. He responded by saying:

Well, there you have it. While Armie Hammer has been “cancelled” and has been seemingly trying to stay away from the public eye, it seems like Luca Guadagnino would be down with working with him again on another Call Me By Your Name. Given the serious nature of the allegations made against Hammer, this comment is sure to quickly circulate online. Of course, there’s no guarantee that these movies will ever actually come together.

Following the allegations made against Armie Hammer, he dropped out of a variety of projects including Jennifer Lopez’s Shotgun Wedding. He was promptly dropped by his representation, and a documentary about his family and the allegations was produced titled House of Hammer. It’s unclear how the legal situation surrounding these accusers might ultimately play out.

Two years ago Armie Hammer was a major star in Hollywood whose future only looked to be getting brighter. Unfortunately, the actor’s career is essentially over. Following accusations of sexual misconduct Hammer dropped out of all the movies he was planning to make and he’s had to make money elsewhere. And now it seems his financial issues are only getting worse as Hammer is being sued by American Express. 

TMZ reports that Hammer is being sued by the credit card giant over an equally giant unpaid balance of $67,000. Exactly how long Hammer has been carrying the balance is unclear but certainly it’s been long enough that Amex decided that a lawsuit was the necessary step to be taken, which means other methods of collection have failed.

It seems the account is one that Armie Hammer and his estranged wife Elizabeth Chambers held together, so whatever balance is owed is likely owed by both of them to some degree. The account is apparently one of many things that needs to be dealt with as part of the currently ongoing divorce proceedings between the pair, so that would seem to explain why it hasn’t been paid. As Elizabeth Chambers explained, with the right people by her side, she decided to watch House of Hammer, and while it was a difficult experience for her, it was important for her to watch it. Regarding whether anything in the docuseries surprised her, Chambers stated:

Ahead of House of Hammer’s premiere, Armie Hammer was reportedly trying to “trying to prepare himself as much” as he could for the docuseries, but was also looking to “move forward as much as possible emotionally speaking and in terms of his career.” Although he and Elizabeth Chambers are no longer together they have reportedly been co-parenting their son and daughter together in the Cayman Islands, and over the summer, it was reported that Hammer was working at a resort selling timeshares to help support his family.

It’s more recently been reported that Hammer is now selling timeshares in the Caymans. Despite being the great-grandson of Armand Hammer, an oil tycoon, the actor is is not on the “family payroll” and has been working to support his two children and ex-wife. 

Armie Hammer reportedly went into a treatment program in June. He spent months in rehab in Florida and then went back to his home in the Caymans. Allegedly, Robert Downey Jr. helped pay for six months of rehab when the actor needed it. It has also been reported that Downey is giving him financial support as well. According to the source,  the actor is also now sober. 

The trailer for House of Hammer shows the actor's exes Courtney Vucekovich and Julia Morrison sharing their past relationships with Hammer. Two of the women featured in the trailer, Courtney Vucekovich and Julia Morrison, appear to turn over their phone records and social media accounts so that the creators of the series could paint a fuller picture of the sexual abuse allegations – and even cannibalism rumors – that have plagued Hammer for years now. Earlier this month, a flyer was shared on social media advertising the Call Me By Your Name actor as giving tours at a hotel in the Cayman Islands. It was later reported that he’s been selling timeshares in the Caymans, but now Hammer is seemingly shutting down these rumors by showing himself out in public in the United States.

Following one of Armie Hammer’s attorneys, Andrew Brettler, claiming that the flyer that circulated on social media was fake, and an unnamed employee from the hotel in question saying that it was made as a prank, the Sorry to Bother You star was photographed outside of the Great White restaurant in the Venice area of Los Angeles on Monday. According to an eyewitness who spoke with E! News, Hammer was hugging a friend before going to lunch in Venice Beach. The actor was wearing a blue graphic T-shirt, rolled up grey pants and brown flip-flops.

So clearly Armie Hammer doesn’t have any trouble making his way back to the United States from the Cayman Islands, and between being seen in public in Los Angeles and that hotel flyer supposedly being fake, this might be his attempt to debunk the rumors that have been circulating around him lately. That said, just because Hammer has been seen in LA doesn’t necessarily mean he hasn’t been working in the hotel industry. According to a report from last week, Hammer has been a “personal concierge” at the aforementioned hotel because “he’s totally broke, and is trying to fill the days and earn money to support his family.” A separate report alleged that that Hammer has been financially “cut off” from his father, businessman Michael Armand.

These recent updates concerning Armie Hammer arrive over a year and a half after he was hit with sexual abuse allegations from multiple women. This led to the actor dropping out of projects like Jennifer Lopez’s Shotgun Wedding and keeping a low profile for a while. Hammer also spent several months at a treatment center in Orlando, Florida, which Robert Downey Jr., who’s gone through addiction recovery, reportedly paid for, as well as provided additional financial assistance to Hammer. There’s been much speculation regarding whether it would actually be possible for Armie Hammer to return to Hollywood after everything that’s transpired. It’s hard to say whether that notion will come to fruition. But at the moment, it seems that Hammer’s gig in the Cayman Islands could carry on for the foreseeable future, especially if he truly isn’t receiving aid from his parents.

After numerous women came forward alleging abuse from Armie Hammer (yes, including those viral cannibalism texts), the Call Me By Your Name actor checked into a treatment center in Orlando, Florida and spent months there before checking out and returning to his home in the Cayman Islands. Amidst recent reports that Hammer is currently selling timeshares off the Caribbean, the latest is that Robert Downey Jr. may have been involved in paying for his rehab. 

Robert Downey Jr., who has his own history with addiction recovery, reportedly paid for Armie Hammer’s nearly six months of treatment in Florida, per a Vanity Fair report, which cites a source close to Hammer. Additionally, the Iron Man actor is allegedly providing the fellow actor financial assistance until he gets back on his feet as well. 

Armie Hammer checked into a rehabilitation facility in Florida on May 31, 2021 to undergo treatment for drug, alcohol and sex problems. According to this new information, the center was a 52-acre estate in Silver Springs particularly catering to clients with “high-visibility lifestyles” such as being business execs, politicians or entertainment professionals. 

This past week, Armie Hammer’s low-profile life in the Cayman Islands was disrupted when a brochure claiming he is a concierge at a Cayman Islands resort spread alongside firsthand claims he is working at a resort. Following this going viral, Hammer is reportedly being “besieged by press” in the Caymans and has escaped to Los Angeles. Hammer is reportedly now staying at a home owned by Robert Downey Jr. and recently attended an A.A. meeting in Malibu as well.  

The Hammer saga began in January 2021, when Instagram direct messages from the actor to a woman referenced his interest in “cutting” her toes, “drinking blood” and calling himself “100% a cannibal.” The woman who shared the screenshots also came forward to accuse the actor of a 2017 rape that allegedly involved him “repeatedly” slamming her face against a wall. 

Additionally, one of Hammer’s ex girlfriends, Courtney Vucekovich, backed up these claims by sharing her own experiences, where the actor reportedly told her he wanted to break her rib, “barbecue and eat it.” Another ex, Paige Lorenze, said he carved an “A” into her skin with a knife and also told her he wanted her to remove one of her ribs for his consumption. 

Following these claims, Armie Hammer’s wife Elizabeth Chambers, who separated from Hammer in 2020, showed her support for the women. The TV personality and entrepreneur reportedly lives in Cayman Islands and is supporting Hammer as she can as she raises their two children. 

Hammer currently has no upcoming movies or TV on his plate and was reportedly selling timeshares at the Caymans to help support his family and get back on his feet. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about what’s going on with Hammer following this public downfall. 

Although Armie Hammer was seen earlier this year as part of Death on the Nile’s ensemble cast, for the most part, the actor has kept a low profile for a while now. Last year saw him being accused of sexual abuse from multiple women, which included expressing cannibalistic fantasies through text messages. This led to Hammer resigning from various projects, splitting from his wife and checking into a treatment center, and last week brought word that he was giving tours in the Cayman Islands. Now it looks like this particular aspect of Hammer’s life has finally been cleared up.

In case you missed the news from last week, a picture of a flyer made the rounds on social media which advertised Armie Hammer working at a Cayman Islands hotel as a “personal concierge” giving tours. This was followed up by photos surfacing of Hammer wearing a blue polo and slacks, and entering the offices of a resort in the Caymans. While one of Hammer’s lawyers, Andrew Brettler, previously said that the flyer was fake, Variety has now heard that the actor is indeed working at the hotel, only he’s selling timeshares. According to an unnamed source:

This individual also told the publication that prior to selling timeshares, Armie Hammer was managing an apartment complex in the Cayman Islands, and that he’s living there so he can be close to his ex-wife Elizabeth and their two children. Although Hammer is the great-grandson of oil tycoon Armand Hammer, he’s reportedly not on the “family payroll,” and this needs to work a “normal and respectable job” since his Hollywood gigs have dried up. Variety previously reported that an employee from the hotel in question that the flyer had been made as a prank, and that Hammer had simply been staying there and golfing with some of the staff. However, the aforementioned unnamed source alleges that the hotel was trying to “protect” Hammer.

While we may not officially know exactly what’s going on here until Armie Hammer actually comments, right now, more signs are pointing towards him working at this Caymans hotel to make ends meet. Prior to the sexual abuse allegations, Hammer was set to star opposite Jennifer Lopez in the romantic comedy Shotgun Wedding, and he’d also shot scenes for the Taika Waititi-helmed sports movie Next Goal Wins. However, Hammer dropped out of Shotgun Wedding shortly after the allegations surfaced in January 2021, and he was replaced with Josh Duhamel. As for Next Goal Wins, Will Arnett was recast in Hammer’s role for the reshoots.

Since the scandal, Hammer was recast in a slew of projects he was previously attached to, he split with his wife and he checked into a treatment center for months. This week, his whereabouts were allegedly tracked down when he went viral again over a claim he is now giving tours in the Cayman Islands. 

After Armie Hammer checked into a treatment center in Orlando, Florida in summer 2021, he reportedly checked out at the end of the year and moved back to the Cayman Islands, which he lived at as a kid with his family before moving back as an adult with his ex-wife and kids during the pandemic (they have since left). Let’s dive into this recent rumor about the Hollywood actor.  

What Are The Rumors About Armie Hammer Being A Concierge?

On Wednesday, Twitter was sent into a whirlwind when TV writer/producer Muna Mire took to the site to share a flyer her friend’s parents sent her involving Armie Hammer. The tweet has since been deleted, but here it is: 

The flyer features a picture of Armie Hammer along with an advertisement that he is a “personal concierge” in the Cayman Islands. It didn't exactly look official, but promised discounts, reasonable prices and a “free orientation” about the island to guests. 

What The Sources Are Saying About Armie Hammer Being A Concierge

Since the flyer went viral, two major sources have reported on the subject. First off, TMZ reported on the situation with actual pictures of Armie Hammer wearing a blue polo and slacks and entering the offices of a Cayman Island resort. According to a timeshare resident the outlet spoke to, Hammer has been at the resort for “several hours a day” and has also been seen going outside for smoke breaks. The witness claimed they saw Hammer show at least one family around a timeshare on the property, too. 

A major detail from that report is the confirmation that Hammer has a friend who works at the resort and may be filling his time there or helping him out right now. Still, Variety spoke to one of Hammer’s lawyers, Andrew Brettler, who said the flyer was fake. The report explained that Hammer is friends with some of the hotel staff, plays golf with them and they made it as a prank to see if it would get attention. A resort employee, whom Variety spoke to, said they’ve had an uptick of phone calls at the resort, adding they could “only dream of this sort of publicity.”

All of Hammer’s previous upcoming movies and TV roles became roles for other actors. Taika Waititi recast the actor with Will Arnett for his sports film, Next Goal Wins and Josh Duhamel replaced him in rom-com with Jennifer Lopez, Shotgun Wedding to name a couple things he is no longer doing. Sounds like Hammer might be resettling into the island life with close friends amidst his high-profile scandal. 

Ever since Murder on the Orient Express released back in 2017, creating a spike in interest for Agatha Christie books everywhere, it was only a matter of time before another movie adapting the stories of Hercule Poirot would be made. Now, Death on the Nile is out in movie theaters and making splashes with an intensely talented ensemble cast. 

But with so many stars, you might be wondering where you’ve seen them before. From long-time stars in the industry to younger actors and actresses making their way, here is where you’ve seen the Death on the Nile cast before.  

Kenneth Branagh (Hercule Poirot)

Returning from the first movie is Kenneth Branagh, playing the main character of Death on the Nile, Hercule Poirot. Branagh has been in the industry for some time, in both movies and TV, so it’s not a surprise that you might have seen him before. 

Some of his biggest works in film include, Henry V, the excellent fantasy movie, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, My Week With Marilyn, the war film, Dunkirk, Tenet, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, the Disney live-action adaptation of Cinderella, and 2021’s Belfast. 

While Branagh keeps his talents mainly to film, he’s also had a career in television as well. He had a main role in the series Lunar Jim, as well as recurring roles in shows such as Wallander, Thompson, Fortunes of War and more.

Tom Bateman (Bouc)

Also returning from the previous film is Tom Bateman, playing Bouc in Death on the Nile. Starting off his career in theatre, Bateman has appeared in a variety of movies and TV. While he also appeared in Murder on the Orient Express, he had roles in the movies Creditors, Snatched, Cold Pursuit and more. 

He’s also had a successful career in television, including roles in shows such as Da Vinci’s Demons, a lead role in Jekyll and Hyde, and parts in miniseries like Vanity Fair, Beecham House, Behind Her Eyes and more. 

Annette Bening (Euphemia)

Playing Euphemia in Death on the Nile is Annette Bening, an iconic actress who has been around for some time, appearing in huge films that have won many awards. One of her most known roles was starring in American Beauty, but some of her other big roles include The Grifters, Being Julia, The Kids Are All Right, Mrs. Harris, 20th Century Woman, Rules Don’t Apply, Captain Marvel and more. 

Bening has kept more of her talents towards movies, but she has appeared in some great TV shows and miniseries. Besides a couple of guest roles, she had a recurring voice role in the show, Liberty’s Kids, as well as an award-nominated performance in Mrs. Harris, where she played Jean Harris in a television movie. 

Russell Brand (Linus Windlesham)

Popping up next in Death in the Nile is Russell Brand, playing Linus Windlesham. While Brand is mainly known for his stand-up comedy, including several TV specials he has done, he’s been in plenty of movies and TV shows. Some of his biggest roles in film include Get Him to the Greek, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the Despicable Me series, Hop, Trolls, Minions and more. 

Brand has definitely appeared many times as himself in TV, including shows like Saturday Night Live, Big Time Rush, and others. Among his many guest roles on television, he has been in shows like Ballers, playing Lance, as well as a guest role in Hospital People, playing Tyler Watt. 

Ali Fazal (Andrew Katchadourian)

Next up is Ali Fazal, playing Andrew Katchadourian in Death on the Nile. Fazal has been in many popular Indian films, including Fukrey, Always Kabhi Kabhi, 3 Idiots and more, but he’s also appeared in a couple of American films as well. These include Furious 7 and House Arrest on Netflix. 

Fazal has mainly kept his talents to movies when it comes to television, only having a couple of guest roles in Bollywood shows. He also had a recurring role in Bollywood Hero, and a role in the miniseries Bang Baaja Baaraat. 

Dawn French (Mrs. Bowers)

Playing Mrs. Bowers in Death on the Nile is Dawn French. Mainly known for her comedy sketch show, French and Saunders, French has had a pretty active career in television, including roles in Girls on Top, The Vicar of Dibley in which she led, Wild West, Psychoville, Delicious and more, as well as judge stints and hosting gigs on shows such as Little Big Shots and Australia’s Got Talent.  

French has also appeared in many popular movies as well. Some of her most-known roles were the stop-motion animated movie, Coraline, Love and Other Disasters and Animals United. 

Gal Gadot (Linnet Ridgeway-Doyle)

In Death on the Nile, Gal Gadot plays Linnet Ridgeway-Doyle. I’m sure at some point you’ve heard of who Gal Gadot is in the last couple of years. One of her biggest roles thus far has been playing the legendary superhero, Wonder Woman, in two standalone films, Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman: 1984, as well as appearing in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and both versions of Justice League. 

Some of her other big roles in movies include the record-breaking Netflix film, Red Notice, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Triple 9 and more - and will soon be playing the Evil Queen in the upcoming Snow White adaptation. While she hasn’t had a main role in any TV shows, she has guest-starred on several television series’, like Entourage, The Simpsons and Saturday Night Live. 

Armie Hammer (Simon Doyle)

Moving on, we have Armie Hammer, who plays Simon Doyle in Death on the Nile, the husband of Gal Gadot’s character. Armie Hammer has appeared in many movies and TV shows. Some of his biggest roles were being a part of The Social Network cast, The Lone Ranger, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Call Me By Your Name, On The Basis Of Sex and more. 

He’s also had roles in many TV shows, including but not limited to the CW series, Gossip Girl, Reaper, and guest roles on many other shows like Veronica Mars or Desperate Housewives. 

Rose Leslie (Lousie Bourget)

Up next is Rose Leslie, who plays Louise Bourget in Death on the Nile. Leslie has appeared in some great roles in movies, including The Last Witch Hunter, The Last Dance, Morgan and more, but television is where she really shines. 

For three seasons, Leslie starred as Ygritte on Game of Thrones. Besides that, she’s also had main roles in shows like Downton Abbey, where she played Gwen Dawson during the first season, portrayed Emma Lane in Luther, played Maia Rindell in The Good Fight, and played Kirsten Longacre in the miniseries, Vigil. 

Emma Mackey (Jacqueline de Bellefort)

Playing Jacqueline de Bellefort in Death on the Nile is Emma Mackey. While she’s younger than many of her other co-stars on this list, Mackey has been making strides in Hollywood through her roles. 

In terms of movies, she’s appeared in the films The Winter Lake and Eiffel, but her biggest role this far is being a part of the Sex Education cast, playing Maeve Wiley in the popular Netflix series.  

Sophie Okonedo (Salome Otterbourne)

Next up is Sophie Okonedo, who plays Salome Otterbourne in Death on the Nile. With a career that has spannwd decades, Okonedo has almost done too many roles to list them all, but rest assured, you’ve probably seen her before. 

Some of her biggest roles in movies have been starring in Hotel Rwanda (which got her a nomination for an Academy Award), Martian Child, The Secret Life of Bees, Skin, Hellboy, Christopher Robin and more. 

Okonedo has also appeared in a variety of TV shows. These include The Governor, Starting Alive, In Defence, Clocking Off, Tsunami: The Aftermath, Criminal Justice, Flack, the Ryan Murphy-created series, Ratched, the Amazon Prime original series, Modern Love and Wheel of Time, His Dark Materials, and many, many other roles. 

Jennifer Saunders (Marie Van Schuyler)

Second to last is Jennifer Saunders, who plays Marie Van Schuyler in Death on the Nile. Saunders is most known for her sketch comedy show, French and Saunders, which she hosted with her comedy partner, Dawn French (as previously seen on this list). However, Saunders has had quite the career in both movies and TV. 

In terms of movies, Saunders has appeared in roles that include Fairy Godmother in Shrek 2, Coraline, Minions, Sing and Sing 2, Patrick, and more.

Saunders has also had quite the TV career. Besides her popular sketch shows with her partner, including Absolutely Fabulous, Parkinson, Dead Boss, Blandings, Josh, The Stranger miniseries and more, alongside many guest appearances in reality and talk shows, examples being Richard Osman’s House of Games and The View, among others. 

Letitia Wright (Rosalie Otterbourne) 

Lastly, we have Letitia Wright, who plays Rosalie Otterbourne in Death on the Nile. Wright has been making her name known these last couple of years with her big appearance as Shuri in the popular Marvel film, Black Panther, a role that she reprised again in both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, and is reprising once more in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Besides her character in the MCU, Wright was also a part of the Sing 2 cast, and appeared in movies such as Guava Island, The Commuter, and Ready Player One. 

Wright has also had a pretty big career in television, including roles in shows like Banana, Cucumber, Top Boy, Humans, the Netflix original series, Black Mirror and the miniseries, Small Axe. 

With so many stars in this movie, it’s no wonder they’ve been in so many movies and TV shows, but now, they can all add Death on the Nile onto their resume as well. And I for one can’t wait to see what they do next.  

Kenneth Branagh is back, directing and starring in another Agatha Christie book-to-movie adaptation with Death on the Nile. Following 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express, which Branagh also helmed and starred in, Death on the Nile will see private detective Hercule Poirot (Branagh) back in action to solve the murder of a vacationer aboard the S.S. Karnak. Critics have seen the movie, and the reviews are in. 

Death on the Nile features another ensemble cast. In addition to Kenneth Branagh, the murder mystery also returns Tom Bateman as Poirot’s friend Bouc, and features some big names including Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders and Letitia Wright. Let’s see what the critics are saying about Death on the Nile, starting with our own CinemaBlend review. Mike Reyes rates the film 4 stars out of 5 and says while this second Agatha Christie adaptation delves more into Poirot’s backstory, it expertly keeps the crime he’s tasked with solving. 

Siddhant Adlakha of IGN rates the movie 7 out of 10, saying the first half flounders but leads to an intense and personal second half. It takes patience, Adlakha says, but it’s worth the wait. 

Not all of the critics are willing to be so patient, however. Owen Gleiberman of Variety likes Death on the Nile better than Kenneth Branagh’s previous venture, but says it still feels like a relic and pales in comparison to the modern murder myster — or “Agatha Christie 2.0” — Knives Out.

That isn’t the review that compares Death on the Nile unfavorably to Knives Out, as SlashFilm’s Josh Spiegel says he’s already looking ahead to Knives Out 2. He and other critics mention that the real-world assault and rape allegations against Armie Hammer make for some awkward scenes between him and his two romantic partners. Spiegel calls the movie an “absolute misfire” and rates it a 2 out of 10. 

The ensemble and pacing of the film is also knocked by David Rooney of THR, who rather than looking at the updated version of a murder mystery compares this adaptation to the 1978 version of Death on the Nile. He notes that Kenneth Branagh’s version is outshined in terms of supporting cast and writing. However, its faults aren’t bad enough that audiences unfamiliar with the previous adaptation will be bothered.

Kyle Anderson of Nerdist agrees with other critics that the film is strongest when focusing on the murder, which apparently doesn’t happen as early as in the source material. 

Death on the Nile doesn’t please all the critics, and it seems like some of their critiques aren’t about the movie at all. Whether it’s the off-camera scandals of its cast or comparisons to either past adaptations or the revamped version of the whodunit genre, Death on the Nile is fighting a lot of battles before it even starts.

As we move towards the beginning of 2022, we’re starting to see more films delayed from the pandemic re-schedulings of 2020 finally show up in theaters. Director/star Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile is one of those that have been shuttled around the calendar several times, but finally next February will be Hercule Poirot’s time to shine once more. Celebration is in order thanks to a new trailer, which shows us more murder and intrigue, but also much less of star Armie Hammer. 

20th Century Studios delivered this beautiful holiday present to the internet’s doorstep, as the oft-delayed Death on the Nile will see Poirot returning early in the new year. Another all-star cast, including the likes of Gal Gadot, Letitia Wright, Russell Brand, and Annette Bening, among others, is on hand for murder most foul. The heat is on, the bodies are adding up, and Poirot's wit is as sharp as his trademark mustache.

While one could presume that the avoidance of lingering glimpses at Armie Hammer might be due to recent events in his personal life, such a huge ensemble as the one in Death on the Nile could make it feel like any singular member is being given a little less time. With Kenneth Branagh’s Poirot having to make his way through a literal boatload of suspects in the name of the truth, it’s not like he can casually chat with everyone on board. Even with that in mind, the edits feel just a little sharper around those moments where we do see Armie Hammer’s Simon Doyle; and while it’s noticeable, it doesn't sink the atmosphere the trailer is selling its audience. 

Originally slated to set sail last October, the follow-up to the surprise smash Murder on the Orient Express steamed into various slots, before landing on its final destination. While we may not have gotten as many trailers for this film as we did for other delayed 20th Century Studios projects, like Free Guy and The King’s Man, the peeks behind the curtain have been continually enticing. This latest trailer for Death on the Nile strikes a perfect balance of showing us what we’ve seen before, but with just enough new details to keep us guessing. It’s honestly what Agatha Christie would have wanted. 

Should this latest Poirot adventure score a win for Kenneth Branagh and his studio partners, the Christie Cinematic Universe could find itself expanding even more. All that’s left to ponder is what the forces behind Death on the Nile have chosen the next adventure to name drop in the finale, which is exactly what sent book sales skyrocketing the last time the Belgian detective set foot in a movie theater. This may be a murder mystery, but that subject we’ve just mentioned may be the greater unknown for those looking forward to this next case.

Death on the Nile finally sets sail into theaters on February 11, 2022; just in time for Valentine’s Day. Murder and intrigue aren't always tastes shared by couples going to the movies, which is why you should probably check the 2022 release schedule carefully before making plans. Don't worry, the alternate options definitely sound more traditional, and one of them is even a J-Lo rom-com!

A number of stars have gone viral for various reasons this past year, but actor Armie Hammer made headlines for supposedly seeing himself as a cannibal. Private text messages started circulating earlier this year that suggested the Call Me By Your Name star had fantasies about literally eating his sexual partners, and it prompted many offhanded jokes online. However, the situation became much more serious when multiple ex-girlfriends came forward with similar stories of violence concerning Hammer. In the wake of the controversy, he was ultimately dropped by his agency and several acting projects, which resulted in the actor checking himself into rehab. Fast forward a few months later, and he is now reportedly out of the facility.

Armie Hammer first checked into an in-patient treatment facility in Orlando, Florida at the end of May. He was allegedly being treated for issues related to drug, alcohol and sex, following the viral cannibal allegations. However, a source for The Sun claims that the actor had actually been in the facility for nine months and was “thriving” but just recently decided to end his stay. They don’t stipulate the reasoning behind his exit, but stated:

Despite allegedly leaving rehab, the Golden Globe-nominated actor still has a lot of issues to contend with in the real world. Namely, he was accused of violently raping and threatening the life of a former partner (only identified as Effie) in March of this year. The seriousness of the allegations prompted an official investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. 

The case is reportedly now being forwarded to the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office, per TMZ, but their sources claim the situation most likely won't result in formal charges against the actor. At the time of the initial accusations, he stated through his legal team that any of his sexual encounters were “consensual” and refuted what was being alleged.

Along with the ongoing legal situation, the cannibal story has also affected his personal and professional career. He and his wife Elizabeth Chambers have separated. Moreover, Hammer has since been replaced in several roles in the past few months, including a Broadway stint, the Julia Roberts drama Gaslit, the Paramount+ series The Offer, as well as the film Shotgun Wedding led by Jennifer Lopez. However, he still has a few completed titles to be released that predate the accusations against him, such as Next Goal Wins and Death on the Nile.

When looking at her experiences under a microscope, the actress had the rare opportunity to work with three men who have been the subject of abuse allegations as well: Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer and Shia LaBeouf. 

As these situations have cropped up, as an audience we often become conflicted. If we loved Johnny Depp movies, can we separate the artist from the art and enjoy his films, or do we blacklist these actors due to the funny feeling that may come up knowing that in their personal lives, a libel trial rages on with his ex Amber Heard following major abuse allegations? Dakota Johnson wrestles with this too, as she shared her experiences working with these actors in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:  

As Dakota Johnson said to the trade, she did not personally have a negative experience working with Johnny Depp, with whom she worked on 2015’s Black Mass, playing Whitey Bulger’s girlfriend Lindsey Cyr. Or Shia LaBeouf, with whom she starred in 2019’s The Peanut Butter Falcon, and faces a sexual battery lawsuit from ex-girlfriend and singer, FKA Twigs. Nor Armie Hammer, who checked himself into a rehab facility in Florida for drug, alcohol and sex addition following abuse allegations over the summer. Johnson continued her thoughts on her former co-stars, saying,  

Oftentimes when headlines pop up regarding some of the actions of these actors, such as these Dakota Johnson has worked with, there’s a tendency for the public to go from the extreme of idolizing to completely “cancelling” the person. At the end of the day, we’re all human and while no one is excusing their actions here, Dakota Johnson certainly speaks to the bigger picture. She believes that perhaps these men can see the other side of their current struggles, but at the same time believes in keeping people accountable as well as this particular moment calls for it. She continued, 

There’s uncertainty right now about how Hollywood will look at these actors moving forward. Johnny Depp was recast in the Fantastic Beasts movies after losing a libel lawsuit regarding allegations that called him a “wife beater.” Armie Hammer dropped out a host of roles as of late, and Shia LaBeouf's career has been quiet. As Johnson described, above all else, it’s a “sad” situation for all parties involved.

Hilary Duff, best known for playing the title character on Disney’s Lizzie McGuire, guest starred in six episodes of Gossip Girl Season 3 as movie star Olivia Burke. Olivia started dating Dan and became Vanessa’s roommate at NYU, which led the former Disney star to engage in some very un-Disney-like behavior when the trio had a threesome. Duff is also known as Kelsey Peters on Younger and is set to star in the How I Met Your Mother sequel spinoff, How I Met Your Father.

Krysten Ritter (Carol Rhodes)

Krysten Ritter plays Lily van der Woodsen’s older, rebellious sister Carol in Season 2’s “Valley Girl,” which flashes back to a crazy night with the college-aged Rhodes sisters that ends in them getting arrested after a fight breaks out at the house party. The Jessica Jones star is also known as Jane from Breaking Bad, her starring role in Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 and guest roles on other popular shows, including Lucy on Gilmore Girls and Gia Goodman in the Veronica Mars cast.

Armie Hammer (Gabriel Edwards)

It’s the rare instance when an actor’s real-life controversy overshadows anything their Gossip Girl character did, but here we are with Armie Hammer, who played Gabriel Edwards in a recurring role in Season 2. Gabriel and his girlfriend, Poppy Lifton, duped the Upper East Side gang into funding a phony philanthropy. There was also an awkward moment when Serena thought she’d married Gabriel in Spain. Hammer is also known for playing twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss in The Social Network cast.

Rachel Brosnahan (Pill purchaser)

Rachel Brosnahan makes a brief appearance in the Season 3 episode “It’s A Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad World,” when she confronts Jenny Humphrey for selling her antibiotics instead of OxyContin. The role may have been just a few seconds long, but the line, "I didn't get high, I got a yeast infection," lives forever. These days Brosnahan is known for her award-winning portrayals of Midge Maisel in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Rachel Posner in the House of Cards cast.

Sam Page (Colin Forrester)

Sam Page appeared in four episodes in Season 4 of Gossip Girl as Colin Forrester, a guest professor at Columbia who was also a billionaire (naturally). Colin's job at the university was threatened when he became involved with Serena (a student), so he quit. He and Serena broke up anyway, leaving Colin to cry into his billions. Page is known for playing Greg Harris on Mad Men and has had recurring roles in shows including Switched at Birth and House of Cards.

Gina Torres (Gabriela Abrams)

While Vanessa spent much of the original series feeling much like an extension of the Humphrey family, we got a couple of guest appearances in Season 3 from her mother, Gabriela Adams, played by Gina Torres. Torres, who is known for playing powerful lawyer Jessica Pearson on Suits and Zoe Washburne on the series Firefly and movie sequel Serenity, has most recently taken on an emotional role as Tommy Vega on 9-1-1: Lone Star.

Brittany Snow (Lily Rhodes)

Like Krysten Ritter, Brittany Snow only appeared in one episode of Gossip Girl, Season 2’s “Valley Girls,” as a young Lily Rhodes (pre-van der Woodsen), who had just been expelled from boarding school and took off to Santa Barbara to find her sister, Carol (Ritter). The Pitch Perfect cast member is also known for playing Meg Pryor on American Dreams and co-starring in the Netflix movie Someone Great. Snow has also had recurring roles on the series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Ben and Kate, and Nip/Tuck.

Sofia Black-D’Elia (Sage Spence)

You might know Sofia Black-D'Elia as the spoiled, trouble-making teen Sabrina Pemberton from Fox's The Mick. But, for nine episodes of Gossip Girl's sixth and final season, Black-D'Elia played the spoiled, trouble-making teen Sage Spence. Sage, who dated Nate, was the teenage daughter of Serena's boyfriend. Yeah, nothing icky about that scenario at all. Black-D'Elia has most recently played Frannie on Your Honor, as a teacher having an affair with a student, and was Heather in To All the Boys: Always and Forever.

Jerrika Hinton (Waitress)

Before she was Dr. Stephanie Edwards on Grey's Anatomy, Jerrika Hinton had a blink-and-you'll-miss-it role in Season 2’s “Valley Girl” flashback episode. Hinton played a waitress at the restaurant where young Lily Rhodes went looking for her sister. The flashback scenes of this episode featured some well-known faces, likely because it was originally written as the pilot for a potential spinoff. Others you might recognize in "Valley Girls" (besides previously mentioned Krysten Ritter and Brittany Snow) include Ryan Hansen, Matt Barr, and there was even a performance by Gwen Stefani and her band No Doubt. Since leaving Grey's, Hinton has had roles on HBO's Here and Now and the Amazon Prime drama Hunters.

Clémence Poésy (Eva Coupeau)

Careful, Upper East Siders, there's a witch walking amongst you, and she's been getting pretty friendly with Chuck Bass! Clémence Poésy, known by Harry Potter fans the world over as Fleur Delacour, played Eva Coupeau for four episodes of Gossip Girl in Season 4. Eva saved Chuck's life after he was shot in Paris, and while the couple played house in France for a while, they couldn't find the same domestic bliss in New York — you know, where Blair lived. Poésy is also known for her roles in films like Tenet, In Bruges and 127 Hours.

Kevin Zegers (Damian Daalgard)

Kevin Zegers appeared in ten episodes across Seasons 3 and 4 as international drug dealer Damian Daalgard. Besides being the go-to person to text anytime drugs were needed, Daalgard had brief relationships with Jenny and Serena, pulling each of them into his dealings (as well as most of the main cast, if we're being honest). Zegers' other television roles include Dr. Nathaniel Flynn as a member of the short-lived drama Rebel cast, and Mel on AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. He is also known for starring in the Air Bud movies, as well as for his roles in 2005's Transamerica and the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake.

Mädchen Amick (Duchess Catherine Beaton)

Mädchen Amick is widely known for her role as Shelly Johnson Briggs in Twin Peaks, but for four episodes in Season 2 of Gossip Girl, she played Duchess Catherine Beaton, a married woman who was having an affair with Nate (yuck). Catherine's stepson, Marcus, was dating Blair (Yuck), but it was quickly revealed that Catherine was also having an affair with Marcus (YUCK). Amick can currently be seen on Riverdale as Alice Cooper and has had a number of film and TV roles on shows including Central Park West, Gilmore Girls, ER, Witches of East End and American Horror Story: Hotel.

Outside of guest appearances, Gossip Girl was known for dropping A-listers into episodes as themselves. Vera Wang appeared in the series to design Blair's wedding dress. Rachel Zoe was a good sport, getting chocolate fondue spilled on her at one of Blair's birthday parties. Tim Gunn offered his opinion on Jenny's fashion pieces. Former gymnast Nastia Liukin flirted with Chuck at a party. The list of celebrity cameos is long, and for good reason — it lent credibility to the series as being part of the landscape of NYC's upper crust.

Only time will tell if the reboot will use the same tactics to stand the test of time like its predecessor. Jennifer Lopez fans are about to see the actress get married not once, but twice on the big screen between her two upcoming films Marry Me and Shotgun Wedding. The latter will have her playing off of Josh Duhamel following Armie Hammer’s prior exit from the role. The Jupiter Legacy star has wrapped his work with JLo, and he’s really hyping up his experience on the film with her.

Josh Duhamel was the third actor to be cast in his role in Shotgun Wedding, but given he’s the only one who actually got to play fiancé to Jennifer Lopez’s character, the third time's most certainly the charm. Prior to Duhamel, Ryan Reynolds was attached to the role in 2019, and Armie Hammer previously replaced him before dropping out in early 2021. Here’s what Duhamel had to say about his time working with Lopez:

It sounds like JLo is a dream of a co-star, per the actor’s words to ET Online. Shotgun Wedding will see Josh Duhamel and the Hustlers actress play Tom and Darcy, a couple getting ready for a destination wedding they are getting cold feet about. Amidst the festivities, the entire wedding party is taken hostage, and the duo must work together to save them from the danger. Get it? It’s a literal shotgun wedding!

The movie was filmed early this year from February to late April in Boston and the Dominican Republic. Shotgun Wedding has long been in the works, originally set to film in the summer of 2019. Armie Hammer was cast in the lead role in late 2020, but has since been the center of multiple assault allegations, leading him to drop out of this and all other projects he had in the works. Hammer checked into a treatment program for drug, alcohol and sex problems in June.

Despite the film dealing with a few bumps in the road, Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel sound like they could be an electric rom-com match. Both of them have dived into the genre on multiple occasions over the years, and it helps that the two actors knew each other prior to playing a couple on set.

Shotgun Wedding is expected to come out on June 29, 2022, the week after Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is released and one week prior to Minions: The Rise of Gru. Until then, J-Lo is living a rom-com of her own and Duhamel voices Two-Face in Batman: The Long Halloween, which concludes with with Part Two on July 27.

Throughout the year Call Me By Your Name star Armie Hammer has been the subject of a wave of controversies including a viral cannibalism DM and alleged sexual assault and rape claims from women. The 34-year-old actor has since dropped out of the acting projects he’d had in the works and his agency no longer represents him. The latest development coming in regarding Hammer is that he has reportedly checked into an in-patient facility to undergo treatment for drug, alcohol and sex problems.

Armie Hammer checked into a treatment facility in Orlando, Florida on May 31. He has been spending the past week in a program to get himself healthy with support from his wife Elizabeth Chambers, per Vanity Fair.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing Armie Hammer leave Grand Cayman airport in the Cayman Islands on May 29 with Elizabeth Chambers and their two children to see him off to the Florida treatment center in an “emotional” goodbye. Apparently after Hammer became estranged from his wife, Chambers, following the various controversies, he reached out to her in late May asking for help seeking treatment.

Armie Hammer is reportedly “committed” to receiving help following a number of troubling developments that have greatly affected his acting career and his personal life, per a close source to the Death on the Nile actor. The controversies started in January when Instagram DMs from Armie Hammer to a woman referencing his interest in “cutting” her toes, “drinking blood” and calling himself “100% a cannibal.”

The woman who shared the screenshots of Armie Hammer talking about cannibalism has since come forward to accuse the actor of a 2017 rape that allegedly involved him “repeatedly” slamming her face against a wall. The Los Angeles Police Department subsequently began an investigation of Hammer.

One of Armie Hammer’s ex girlfriends, Courtney Vucekovich, backed up claims by sharing her own experience with the actor, who apparently told her he wanted to break her rib, “barbecue and eat it.” Another one of Hammer’s past flames, model Paige Lorenze, said the Call Me By Your Name actor carved an “A” into her skin with a knife and he was dead serious about getting a doctor to remove her bottom ribs for his consumption.

Amidst these claims, Elizabeth Chambers, who is seeking a divorce from Armie Hammer, shared her support for the victims/survivors who spoke out. Hammer was removed from his intended role in Shotgun Wedding and replaced with Josh Duhamel, along with the Broadway production of The Minutes, a movie with Mads Mikkelsen called Billion Dollar Spy and the Paramount+ making-of The Godfather series The Offer.

It’s currently unclear if the controversies will affect his forthcoming release of Death on the Nile, which is expected to hit theaters on February 11, 2022.

After hitting a pretty odd setback in that its star was in the middle of drama centered around sexual assault allegations as well as cannibalistic texts, Jennifer Lopez’s Shotgun Wedding has finished up filming with a new lead. Josh Duhamel quickly took up the role of Tom, previously played by Armie Hammer opposite Lopez. It appears that Duhamel did not take up the replacement role lightly, though, because he now recalls the email he sent to Hammer after securing the role.

In an interview with Man About Town (via E! Online), Josh Duhamel reveals he sent an email to Armie Hammer after replacing him at Tom on Jennifer Lopez’s Shotgun Wedding. The two actors seem to know each other and are on friendly terms, although not necessarily friends. Duhamel apparently felt they were close enough to warrant an email making sure no toes were being stepped on by taking the role, and in the email he says he doesn’t like getting roles because another actor loses out due to outside drama. Here’s what the actor says in the email, exactly:

Even if you don’t believe Armie Hammer to be an innocent or even good person, you have to admit that it’s a pretty commendable thing Josh Duhamel did. Duhamel kept his opinion out of the email, and just sent some good vibes Hammer’s way, while also laying it out that he was going to replace him in a film.

While he wished him luck, it’s unclear where Duhamel falls with his opinion on the whole Armie Hammer situation. Nevertheless, Hammer is having a pretty tough time right now in both his personal and professional life due to the scandals he has incurred and Duhamel has his thoughts with him.

Like Josh Duhamel says, he doesn’t like getting parts second hand like with Shotgun Wedding, but it seems like it’s worth it this time. The trade off of working with Jennifer Lopez is one he seems glad to have made, because he has said it was a dream on set with Lopez and a lot of fun was had.

The bulk of the fun is over, though, as filming on Shotgun Wedding has concluded. Even so, it won’t be until next summer that we see whether or not Josh Duhamel and Jennifer Lopez’s good time on set translates on screen to viewers. Armie Hammer probably won’t be having as much fun watching the film though, even if he did get a head’s up email from his replacement.

The pandemic isn’t the only thing that’s been mucking up production in Hollywood; scandals have a way of doing that too. After being set to star opposite Jennifer Lopez in the action-packed romantic comedy Shotgun Wedding, Armie Hammer dropped out of the film earlier this year due to his sexual abuse allegations and sexual cannibal texts were leaked. It put the project a bit off of its schedule, but now the developing movie has finished shooting, and a new release date has been set.

After quickly replacing Armie Hammer with Josh Dunhamel to star opposite Jennifer Lopez, Shotgun Wedding is all set to come out in summer 2022. According to Variety, the film wrapped principal photography last week and is now set to be released on June 29, 2022. Despite the drama with Armie Hammer, the film has had a pretty fast rebound.

Lionsgate’s Shotgun Wedding centers around Jennifer Lopez’s and Josh Dunhamel’s characters as an engaged couple on the way to their destination wedding when they both start to experience cold feet. It’s not just a romcom though, because the wedding guests end up getting taken hostage and some action ensues.

That could have been you, Armie Hammer, but you had to go and be the source of multiple scandals! The actor has seen his slate of upcoming projects totally diminish in recent weeks, as he has been removed from a number of films since stories began to break about his personal life. While the Rebecca star has two movies that are completed and yet to be released, including Death on the Nile starring opposite real life Wonder Woman Gal Gadot, he does not have any productions on his schedule.

With the box office already seeing some improvement as we are starting to get closer to summer, we can expect theaters to possibly be back to normal by the time next summer rolls around. It looks like film companies are thinking the same thing, as there are already a number of major films set to come out next summer featuring some big names. Jennifer Lopez’s Shotgun Wedding is just the newest to set its release in that time frame.

With a June 29, 2022 release date, Shotgun Wedding will be in theaters just a few days before the next Minions film, Minions: The Rise of Gru; a week before Black Panther II; and a month before Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam and Indiana Jones 5.

The film industry is starting to get back to normal, and films like Shotgun Wedding are overcoming more obstacles than just the pandemic, but things don’t seem to be looking as good for Armie Hammer. For now, the projects that once were set to include the actor are moving right along without him.

Society might be slowly trudging out of the murky waters of the pandemic this year, but the same can’t quite be said for Jennifer Lopez. Not only has her latest film Shotgun Wedding had viral casting switch-ups and controversy, but she and Alex Rodriguez announced their breakup after a near 2-year-long engagement. It’s only been a week since the latest drama, but Lopez outwardly has nothing but smiles as Shotgun Wedding wraps filming.

Shotgun Wedding has been filming for months in the Dominican Republic, where Jennifer Lopez has taken up temporary residence amidst the Armie Hammer and A-Rod dramas. Now that it’s wrapped and headed to post-production, J.Lo took the time to smile and post selfies with the crew and fellow co-stars on the film, Josh Duhamel and Lenny Kravitz. Jennifer Lopez might be at ease with the cast and crew of Shotgun Wedding, but it has presumably been difficult for the actress to film. Even crazier is considering that the action-comedy is premised on a couple attempting a destination wedding, when in reality they might be actually headed toward breaking up.

The parallels between the fictional Shotgun Wedding and J.Lo’s real-life as of late are a bit glaring. She may not be literally taken hostage and getting a bit bloody as she saves loved ones from peril, but Lopez has been dealing with a lot of drama concerning her relationship with A-Rod. The kids are involved, and it’s gotten a bit messy. Reportedly, the “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” singer was the one to ultimately break up with A-Rod because of the rumors swirling of his alleged contact with Southern Charm star Madison LeCroy.

For a while there, though, both Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez seemed to be making headway out of the cheating allegations. A-Rod was blissfully posing for pics in the Dominican Republic while J.Lo was filming Shotgun Wedding and paparazzi even caught the couple in the midst of some serious PDA. But as Shotgun Wedding wrapped, so too did J.Lo and A-Rod’s relationship, apparently.

However, as can be seen by J.Lo’s Instagram pics, the tripe threat entertainer is putting on a brave face. We commend her, especially after managing to juggle preparing for three different love interests on-screen for Shotgun Wedding. Ryan Reynolds initially dropped out from the lead role before it was passed onto Armie Hammer. But due to the scandal surrounding Hammer’s alleged behavior with his own real-life paramours, he dropped out as well (along with few other noteworthy roles). This was all within the space of a few months before Josh Duhamel took over the part.

The scandals circling around Shotgun Wedding and Jennifer Lopez have been pretty relentless. With filming officially complete, hopefully J.Lo can take a much deserved break from it all.

When 2021 began, the future looked bright for Armie Hammer. The Call Me by Your Name actor was fresh off of starring in Netflix’s Rebecca, and along with having three movies already completed, he was gearing up for a number of other projects. But then Hammer was caught in a wave of controversy, and now he’s dropped out of most of, if not all, the projects he had lined up.

Back in March 2020, Armie Hammer was supposed to star in a play called The Minutes that was expected to open on Broadway, with Armie Hammer attached as one of the lead actors. Unfortunately, those plans were scrapped by the COVID-19 pandemic, and Broadway still hasn’t opened back up over a year later. As things stand now, The Minutes is preparing to resume production for the 2021-2022 season, but Hammer will no longer star in it. Here’s what the actor said in a statement to Variety about exiting the stage production:

The Minutes, which is directed by Anna Shapiro, debuted back in 2017 from the Steppnwolf Theatre Company, and the story follows the inner workings of a city council meeting in the small town of Big Cherry when a newcomer shows up to start asking the wrong questions. Armie Hammer previously worked with Shapiro in the 2018 Broadway production of Straight White Men, but they won’t be collaborating for a second time after all. There’s no word yet on who will take over Hammer’s role when The Minutes does finally get up and running.

With this, Armie Hammer’s professional schedule is much clearer, as the actor has also exited the roles he had lined up for the big screen. Leaving The Minutes is just the latest in the fallout that’s unfolded in the last several months tied to the various scandals surrounding the actor. Back in January, texts allegedly from Hammer were leaked online that showed him expressing interest in sexual cannibalism and other violent fantasies. Several months later, it was reported that Hammer accidentally sent explicit text messages intended for someone else to his now estranged wife, Elizabeth Chambers.

Although Armie Hammer initially denied that the leaked texts came from him, Hammer ended up dropping out of Shotgun Wedding, the action rom-com that would have seen him starring opposite Jennifer Lopez. Jupiter’s Legacy actor Josh Duhamel has since been recast in Hammer’s place. Soon after that, Hammer departed the Paramount+ limited series The Offer, where he was going to play The Godfather producer Al Ruddy. The talent agency WME also dropped Hammer as a client.

As of last month, Armie Hammer is now under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department for sexual assault after a woman stated that the actor “violently raped” her and repeatedly banged her head against a wall in 2017. A little over a week after those allegations came out, Hammer left the final movie on his slate, Billion Dollar Spy, a Cold War drama also starring Mads Mikkelsen. It’s also worth mentioning that Hammer has exited the Starz series Gaslit and been replaced by Beauty and the Beast’s Dan Stevens, although in that instance, his departure wasn’t directly tied to the allegations surrounding him.

So as things stand now, Armie Hammer only has two completed movies left to be released: Next Goal Wins and Death on the Nile. Beyond that, it’s hard to say when we’ll next see him act in something, if at all. We’ll keep you posted on Hammer’s professional and personal lives should any major developments unfold.

Armie Hammer was just replaced in another project, an upcoming TV drama setup at Starz that also has Julia Roberts attached. This time around, however, well-publicized controversies including allegations he was into sexual cannibalism and separate allegations of sexual assault are not the reason why. In fact, Armie Hammer had left the project before any of the myriad allegations came to light just a few short months ago. Now, we’ve learned he’ll be replaced by Beauty and the Beast and Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens.

News broke today that Armie Hammer has exited an upcoming Julia Roberts and Sean Penn drama called Gaslit, which is expected to be a “modern take on Watergate” and is based on the podcast Slow Burn. In it, Hammer had been expected to take on the role of John Dean, a member of the White House Counsel dealing with conflict over whether to lie to protect the President. Dan Stevens will now occupy that role in the Starz series, per Deadline.

It’s been about two and half months since Armie Hammer dropped out of Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming movie. Shotgun Wedding (which is now shooting without him in the Dominican Republic) following allegations he allegedly was into sexual cannibalism (allegations he denied). In the time since, the news he’d left Gaslit also dropped -- though unlike Shotgun Wedding it was not directly related. The tide has not stymied either following separate reports of sexual assault and some comments from Armie Hammer’s ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers, who has publicly commented on the matter -- the couple had split last summer following a reported cheating scandal before any of these reports broke.

At the time of Hammer's exit from Gaslit he was expected to star in another project called The Offer, which is why he left the Starz series. As for The Offer, the actor has also left that project at this point, this time directly related to the allegations. Most recently Armie Hammer exited Billion Dollar Spy, a Cold War era movie that would have had him starring along with Mads Mikkelsen.

However, prior to all of this Armie Hammer had completed work on the hotly anticipated Death on the Nile, the sequel to Kenneth Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express which had been pushed back earlier due to the pandemic. It now won't come out until 2022, but it's unclear if that movie will make any changes as it's already been filmed, Hammer's in it extensively, and it's in the can and ready to roll. The movie is a Hercule Poirot project and the first did well at the box office, so pushing it to February of 2022 kind of sucks from that standpoint, but we'll have to wait and see what Disney ultimately opts to do given the current circumstances.

Meanwhile, we'll let you know if any other news breaks related to the actor, who rose to fame with The Social Network in 2010. He currently has no upcoming projects (only a couple that are completed) in the works. Of course, Gaslit is likely going to be a weird one for Dan Stevens, too, as I'm sure this whole replacement thing will be a part of the dialogue about the project moving forward. We'll keep you updated regarding that too.

Major Hollywood studios despise scandals. Opening a blockbuster film in this marketplace is hard enough, and when a scandal casts a shadow over a production, or a member of a sprawling cast, that threatens to be a massive distraction from the movie at hand. Which brings us to a piece regarding Armie Hammer, his ongoing negative publicity, and the attempts by Walt Disney to postpone having to address the issue because Hammer happens to be a male lead in the studio’s oft-delayed Agatha Christie adaptation Death on the Nile.

Variety tackles these concerns in a column that follows up news that Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile feature shifted all the way back to Quarter One of 2022 as Walt Disney studio shuffles release dates and plans for theaters to reopen. This is just the latest in a series of delays for Death on the Nile, though the previous ones were due to production issues and then COVID restrictions. Those delays, however, have put the massive murder mystery on a collision course to a publicity nightmare thanks to the headlines Armie Hammer is getting.

Hammer, as you may or may not know, is the center of an LAPD investigation regarding claims of a violent rape from 2017. He has been outed on social media as someone who might be involved in domination and sexual cannibalism, claims that are unverified and he has mostly denied. He’s engaged in a public custody battle with his ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers, who was married to the actor for 10 years. And he has been losing professional gigs in the wake of these allegations, stepping away from the Lionsgate RomCom Shotgun Wedding with Jennifer Lopez, then being dropped from The Billion Dollar Spy, a Cold War drama with Mads Mikkelsen.

Which brings us to Death on the Nile, and Disney’s difficult situation. The studio can’t fire Armie Hammer from the movie. The movie’s done, and according to sources who spoke to Variety, he has a significant part that can’t just be removed. There’s precedent for that, as when Christopher Plummer replaced Kevin Spacey in the Ridley Scott drama All the Money in the World. The late actor actually ended up getting a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Academy Awards for his work.

Other analysts suggested to Variety that Walt Disney simply bite the bullet and take the stance that hundreds of talented people worked on Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile, and they’re not going to let the alleged actions of one cast member sink the whole ship. But Variety astutely notes that any press needs to be protective of Armie Hammer’s female co-stars, including Gal Gadot and Letitia Wright, because of the violent nature of the allegations leveled at the actor.

The release date buys Disney some time on Death on the Nile, and we will continue to see how the Armie Hammer story plays out. Eventually, though, Kenneth Branagh’s movie is going to see the light of day, and we’ll figure out if Hammer’s alleged actions overshadow the director’s accomplishments.

To say 2021 has been eventful for Armie Hammer would be an understatement. The Social Network actor started off the year dealing with text messages being leaked to the public where he expressed cannibalistic sexual fantasies, and earlier this month, he was accused of sexual assault. These personal incidents have also impacted his professional life, and that includes dropping off another movie.

Back in October, it was announced that Armie Hammer would star opposite Fantastic Beasts 3 actor Mads Mikkelsen in Billion Dollar Spy. Fast-forward five months, Variety reports that Hammer has exited the Cold War drama that will be directed by Amma Asante. Neither Asante nor Walden Media, the company behind Billion Dollar Spy, didn’t comment further, but this news follows just a few weeks after a woman accused Hammer of violently raping her in 2017.

Billion Dollar Spy would have seen Armie Hammer playing Brad Reid, who arrives at the CIA’s Moscow station and strikes up a friendship with Mads Mikkelsen’s Adolf Tolkachev, a Soviet engineer. The two men form a strong bond, and Reid faith in Tolkachev is rewarded when he hands over a treasure trove of military secrets, resulting in Tolkachev earning the nickname “The Billion Dollar Spy,” and his actions altering the power balance between the East and West. Billion Dollar hasn’t begun production yet, so there’s still plenty of time for the creative minds behind the movie to find Hammer’s replacement, although there was no mention of anyone being specifically looked at.

This is the second movie Armie Hammer has dropped out of since 2021 began, as he’s also no longer participating in the action rom-com Shotgun Wedding. Following Hammer’s exit from that project, Jupiter’s Legacy actor Josh Duhamel was tapped to take over the role, and he’ll star opposite Jennifer Lopez. Hammer has also departed the Paramount+ series The Offer, where he was set to play The Godfather producer Al Ruddy.

This now also means that Armie Hammer is no longer part of any movies that are in active development. With Crisis having come out back in February, he’s next slated to appear in Next Goal Wins and Death on the Nile, but both those movies finished filming a while ago. There was also talk about Hammer reuniting with Timothee Chalamet and director Luca Guadagnino for a Call Me By Your Name sequel, but that hasn’t been given the green light and reportedly doesn’t even have a script.

In addition to this professional fallout (which also includes talent agency WME cutting ties with him), Armie Hammer is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department for sexual assault. We’ll keep you apprised on what’s happening with the actor as more details come in. For now, Death on the Nile is slated for a February 11, 2022 release, and Next Goal Wins is currently undated.

After years of chiefly drawing the public spotlight for his performances in movies and TV shows, Armie Hammer has been drawing more attention in recent months for what’s happening in his personal life. The actor has been keeping a relatively low profile ever since sexually explicit text messages were leaked where he expressed cannibalistic fantasies, and more recently, it was revealed that he’d reportedly sent his now-estranged wife Elizabeth Chambers texts that were meant for someone else by accident. As of today, Hammer is also now facing accusations of sexual assault.

During a press conference on Thursday with attorney Gloria Allred, a woman identified only Effie stated that Armie Hammer “violently raped” her and repeatedly banged her head against a wall during an encounter in Los Angeles back in 2017, among other “violent acts.” Effie said she thought the actor was going to kill her, and that he left “no concern” for her well being. She continued (via The Wrap):

Effie, who is now 24, allegedly met Armie Hammer when she was 20, and they had an on-again, off-again relationship from 2016 to 2020, with their most recent communication occurring last year. Her press conference was in response to Hammer’s lawyer having previously said that all “interactions” the actor had with his former partners were “consensual.” Effie also claimed that she’s been in contact with some of the women with whom Hammer exchanged salacious text messages. While those messages were shared on an Instagram account House of Effie, neither she nor Gloria Allred confirmed if she’s the same individual running the social media page.

Armie Hammer’s attorney, Andre Bettler disputed the claims coming from Effie, who he identified as Effie Angelova. In his words:

We’ll just have to wait and see how this latest chapter of the Armie Hammer saga unfolds, but it’s certainly taken an already-complicated situation down a darker path. For those unfamiliar with Hammer’s personal life, he and Elizabeth Chambers married in 2010 and have two children together, but in summer 2020, they announced their separation. Hammer sending Chambers text messages not meant for her occurred after Hammer flew back to the United States without his family, as up until that point, he’d been quarantining with his wife, children, father and step-mother in the Cayman Islands, and it got to the point where he reportedly couldn’t take being there anymore.

In addition to the extra focus on his personal life, these events have also dealt a huge blow to Armie Hammer’s professional career. Back in October, it was announced that he would co-star alongside Jennifer Lopez in an action-comedy entitled Shotgun Wedding. However, shortly after the leaked text messages starting circulating in January, Hammer exited the project, saying at the time that he could not “in good conscience” leave his children for four months to shoot a movie in the Dominican Republic. Josh Duhamel has since been brought aboard to take over Hammer’s role.

Armie Hammer has also departed the Paramount+ series The Offer, which would have seen him playing The Godfather producer Al Ruddy. Hammer most recently starred in Crisis and has Death on the Nile and Next Goal Wins lined up in the near future, but for now, his acting work looks to be on pause while all this turmoil is happening.
