Beyond their big-budget blockbusters, Marvel has been extending their productions into a string of short films that have peppered the home-video releases of features like Thor and Captain America. More than just fan service, these shorts—or "One-Shots" as Marvel dubs them—give love to arcs that—like one shot comics—don't require much time to offer a satisfying punch and story. Buzz has been percolating on their latest secret short, and now EW has a first look and some intriguing details on Item 47.

Available on The Avengers Blu-ray due out September 25th, this One-Shot picks up where the film left off, centering on Benny and Claire, two New Yorkers who come across one of the guns dropped by Loki's alien forces and take this uncanny chance to become a modern Bonnie and Clyde. Lizzy Caplan (Party Down, pictured below) and Jesse Bradford (Flags of Our Fathers) star in the short, which is said to be Marvel's most ambitious One-Shot yet.

Named for the to the gun seen above, Item 47 is Marvel's longest short to date—clocking at 12 minutes, which is three times longer than its predecessors. It's also their most elaborate, featuring multiple sets, visual effects, and action scenes. This new production level belies a new tactic for Marvel, one where the studio could use these One-Shots to lay the groundwork for expanding and exploring the movie Marvel universe and introducing new characters like a new S.H.I.E.L.D. agent played by Titus Welliver, who along with Maximiliano Hernández of Thor, hunts down Benny and Claire.

Beyond being a bonus to fans who bought the Marvel home releases, the shorts could prove a testing ground to see how audiences respond to other Marvel heroes (say Black Panther, Wasp or even Ant-Man) that have not yet been integrated into the Marvel movies. Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito, who helmed Item 47 admits:

“There’s always a potential to introduce a character. We have 8,000 of them, and they can’t all be at the same level. So maybe there are some that are not so popular, and we introduce them [with a short] – and they take off. I could see that happening.”

Item 47 will screen at San Diego Comic-Con next week. Download The Avengers Second Screen app to uncover a secret Marvel screening on July 12th, as well as access to an undisclosed clip.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron developer High Moon Studios has another high-profile licensed game in the works. During Comic Con, they're set to announce a project based on one of Marvel's properties.

The Comic Con panel entitled "Marvel Video Games" will feature information on Gazillion Entertainment's MMO Marvel Heroes as well as Ubisoft's Avengers: Battle for Earth. The description of the panel doesn't detail High Moon Studio's Marvel game. All that they say is that it's "sure to be a hit."

It seems possible that High Moon Studio's game is based on the Avengers. Ubisoft is making Battle for Earth but that's only going to be released for Xbox 360 Kinect and Wii U. Considering the enormous financial success of the Avengers film, I would think that Marvel would also license a "hardcore" multiplatform game based on the franchise.

It's surprising that they didn't release a Avengers game alongside the film. It's for the best, though. Forcing a development team to conform to the release schedule for a film often results in rushed, forgettable games. Extra time doesn't always result in a quality game but the odds are better.

High Moon Studios seems like a smart choice for the project, regardless of what Marvel license it's based on. They proved with Transformers: War for Cybertron that they know how to take a beloved franchise and put an entertaining twist on it. Fall of Cybertron looks even more promising.

The "Marvel Video Games" panel will be held on July 14th and run from 1:45 to 2:45. Considering it's only a one-hour panel and at least two other games will be discussed during the presentation, we probably won't hear much about High Moon Studio's game beyond its title.

Having attended Comic Con in San Diego over the last couple of years, I've frequently heard the wish that certain TV panels might be moved to Hall H, the biggest of the venues at the convention center. Typically, Hall H is reserved for movie panels, save the final day at the convention. But considering the massive line of people queued up, trying to get into the panels for shows like The Big Bang Theory, The Walking Dead, Fringe, True Blood, Game of Thrones and some of the other enormously popular TV shows, it seems logical that the convention organizers might try to move some (if not all) of those shows into the bigger hall this year. From the sound of it, that's what's happening, at least for a couple of shows.

While there's no word (yet) on whether or not HBO or AMC will manage to get their huge series into Hall H at Comic Con this year, Warner Bros. TV released some information about their series, which includes The Big Bang Theory and Fringe. The CBS comedy and the Fox sci-fi drama will both be featuring panels at SDCC this summer, and fans will find them in Hall H, as opposed to the smaller Ballroom 20. Fringe is being moved to Sunday, while TBBT's panel will take place on Friday. That's only part of the good news. The next bit of info involves the pilots that will be screened during Wednesday's "Preview Night." Last year, there were four series screened during preview night. This year, we get five! Those who attend Comic Con on Wednesday night (July 11) will be able to see the pilot episodes of 666 Park Avenue, Arrow, Cult, The Following and Revolution. That's quite a bit of TV watching for one evening, but it's also quite a solid selection. And it's usually easy to get a seat in there for those screenings, so that's a plus.

The studio has also released the schedule and locations for their other series (new and returning) panels. No specific times are mentioned, but it gives us a general idea of what's going to be there and where we'll find it.

THURSDAY, JULY 12• MAD (Mondays 8:45/7:45c Cartoon Network): Get a glimpse behind theMADness with MAD television show producers Kevin Shinick and Mark Marek. Given the line for Ballroom 20 on Friday morning last year, I really hope we'll hear news of some of the other popular shows being set up in Hall H this time around. In the meantime, it sounds like Warner Bros. has a lot to offer TV fans at SDCC this year.
