When Arrow premiered in 2012, it didn’t take long for Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen to find a partner to aid him in his war against crime and corruption in then-Starling City. David Ramsey’s John Diggle (who did not end up becoming a Green Lantern) learned Oliver was The Hood at the end of the third episode, then agreed to work with him in the following one, thus marking, to quote Casablanca, “the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” Amell and Ramsey also didn’t have trouble having fun in those early Arrow days eiteher, which started when the latter told a specific raunchy joke to the former to make him break.

David Ramsey told the story while appearing on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, where he also got into a friendly argument with the title host about whether Arrow or Smallville was DC’s true flagship TV show. As for the raunchy joke, Ramsey it set up with the following after being asked by a fan about one of his favorite moments working in Arrow:

John Diggle was introduced in Arrow as Oliver Queen’s driver/bodyguard. Moira Queen, Oliver’s mother, hired him to look after her son once he returned to Starling City after being thought dead for five years. Diggle’s presence was initially problematic for Oliver, as he kept having to ditch the man in order to carry out his Hood activities. Meanwhile in real life, David Ramsey used this Arrow scene as a way to mess with Stephen Amell, with the actor continuing:

I guess it didn’t take long for Ramsey to strike up a good rapport with Amell on the Arrow set if he felt comfortable making a joke like that so early on. I can understand why he had trouble keeping a straight face, and it was a nice indicator of things to come. Ramsey was the only other actor besides Amell who was a series regular for the entirety of Arrow’s eight-season run. Along with his time on the Green Arrow-focused series, Ramsey also played Diggle in various episodes of The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batwoman and Superman & Lois, though in the latter show, it ended up being an alternate version of the character.

David Ramsey last played John Diggle in The Flash Season 9 episode “It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To,” which also saw Stephen Amell reprising Oliver Queen for the first time since Arrow ended in early 2020. While the Arrowverse is no more, both actors have appearances lined up on the 2026 TV schedule. Ramsey will soon appear in an episode of Tracker on CBS, and this fall on Fox, Amell will star in the Baywatch reboot.

While there are some superhero-based titles on the 2026 TV schedule, there was a time, not that long ago, when The CW was literally chockablock with action-packed dramas about DC comics characters. Widely known as the Arrow-verse, the programming reached its peak with six shows on the network, and was so-named for the one that started it all: Arrow. But, wait…did that Green Arrow-focused show actually start the spate of DC titles on the network? Series star David Ramsey recently had a friendly argument with Smallville’s Michael Rosenbaum about which show truly led the charge.

What Prompted Arrow’s David Ramsey And Smallville’s Michael Rosenbaum To Have A Friendly Argument

Superheroes have been a big part of pop culture for decades, but TV shows that followed them had lots of trouble getting (and staying) off the ground until relatively recently. While the Stephen Amell-starring Arrow can certainly be credited with helping to change that for fans, a little 10-season series called Smallville (which focused on Clark Kent’s teen and young adult years) was, technically, first out of the gate.

David Ramsey portrayed John Diggle (Oliver Queen’s confidant and eventual non-Green Lantern partner in vigilante justice) throughout all of Arrow’s eight seasons, and with appearances on other franchise shows like The Flash. During a recent chat with Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, Ramsey revealed that he had a conversation with Smallville’s Justin Hartley not long ago, which led to the Tracker star bringing up his earlier stint as Oliver Queen. Leading Rosenbaum to add:

While Hartley didn’t seem to push the issue of Smallville being the show that really served to kickstart the whole DC series universe, Ramsey’s story did prompt Rosenbaum to push a little harder on that note. Man, stirring the pot and trying to sound innocent is such a Lex thing to do, isn’t it? And, Ramsey couldn't really argue his point too much, as he responded:

I love the fact that Hartley enjoyed his time as Oliver/Green Arrow so much that he felt the need to bring it up to Ramsey when they met not long ago. As the actor told Rosenbaum (who, of course, starred on Smallville as Lex Luthor for Seasons 1 through 7, then returned for the series finale) he met the This Is Us star while doing a guest appearance on Tracker, but Hartley’s first long-running primetime role was as Green Arrow on Smallville from 2006 through 2011, which was just about a year before Arrow began.

Listen, folks who are in the know fully realize that Smallville is legendary and was the first to really do some of the DC-based stories right on television, but Ramsey is still correct that Arrow has a special place in the comic book hero sun for directly leading to such a beloved TV franchise.

When Arrow wrapped up its eight-season run at the beginning of 2020, one of the final things fans saw was David Ramsey’s John Diggle opening up a mysterious box containing something glowing green that crashed on Earth right before his eyes. This plot point was later revisited on shows like Supergirl, Batwoman and The Flash, and fans waited with bated breath to see if this would culminate Diggle becoming Green Lantern, which had been theorized for a long time. However, by The Flash Season 8 episode “The Man in the Yellow Tie,” this story ended with Diggle walking away without an emerald ring. Ramsey has now shared why he thinks it was the “right decision” his character never became a member of the Green Lantern Corps, and I agree with him.

The actor discussed this topic while participating alongside Arrow co-star Stephen Amell in the Arrowverse Heroes panel at Motor City Comic Con, which was moderated by ScreenRant’s Joe Deckelmeier and also saw Amell sharing why he’s open to playing Green Arrow again. Regarding the green box, Ramsey mentioned how “politics” surrounding the Green Lantern property destroyed his and producer Marc Guggenheim’s attempts to Diggle one of these ring-slingers “for six seasons.” But in the end, he’s happy with how this turned out, saying:

The Arrowverse certainly did its job of teasing John Diggle becoming a Green Lantern. As David Ramsey mentioned at the panel, there was that moment in the "Elseworlds" crossover when John Wesley Shipp’s Flash from Earth-90 observed that this universe’s Diggle wasn’t wearing a ring. Let’s also not forget that Ernie Hudson played Diggle’s step-father, Colonel Roy Stewart, which technically means Diggle could have been known as John Stewart, who’s one of the most popular Green Lantern characters in the comics.

By the time of “The Man in the Yellow Tie,” John Diggle learned from Eobard Thawne, a.k.a. Reverse-Flash, that it wasn’t a Green Lantern ring, but some kind of great cosmic power. Thawne said he could reopen the box, but accepting this power would require Diggle to leave his family behind. The man who fought crime as Spartan refused this offer, causing the box to disappear. I thought this made the best sense to go this route with the character since it would’ve been bizarre for him to abandon his wife and children, and David Ramsey also approved of this choice, saying:

As for David Ramsey saying the Green Lantern property is “in the hands it should be in now,” he’s referring to how the Green Lantern mythos has been incorporated into the DC Universe franchise. We met Guy Gardner in Superman earlier this year, and Lanterns will premiere on the 2026 TV schedule, with Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart as its leads. While the main Arrowverse continuity never pulled the trigger on anything Green Lantern-related, Stargirl, which took place on Earth-2 post-“Crisis on Infinite Earths,” did feature Jennie-Lynn Haden inheriting the ring belonging to her late father, Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern.

You can revisit David Ramsey’s time as John Diggle by streaming Arrow with your Netflix subscription, but take advantage of that while you can, because the show will leave the platform on December 18. Lanterns is now expected to premiere on HBO sometime in mid-2026, with episodes being available to stream afterwards with an HBO Max subscription.

The final lap of The Flash’s race is about to begin. After premiering in September 2014 following the introduction of Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen in Arrow Season 2, the Scarlet Speedster’s CW series is returning for a ninth and final season comprised of just 13 episodes. While fans remain in the dark about what Season 9 holds in store plot-wise, there’s been a few casting announcements over the last several months, and today brings word that three rumored Arrowverse characters will indeed be appearing too, including the big bad from the first chunk of Season 6.

Those of you who read DC Comics’ Earth-Prime six-issue series last year will recall that it ended with a tease that Ramsey Rosso, a.k.a. Bloodwork, would appear in The Flash Season 9. Sure enough, it’s been announced (via Deadline) that Sendhil Ramamurthy will guest star in Season 9’s ninth episode. That same episode will also feature the return of David Ramsey as John Diggle and Keiynan Lonsdale’s Wally West, a.k.a. Kid Flash. With Diggle having made 10 guest appearances on The Flash so far, and Wally having been an important character in the show’s earlier seasons, fans speculated that they’d be looped into Season 9, and now we know for sure this is happening alongside the return of Bloodwork.

Ramsey Rosso was the villain in The Flash Season 6’s opening arc (i.e. the episodes prior to the “Crisis on Infinite Earths”), with his efforts to ward off death resulting in him obtaining haemokinesis, the ability to control and manipulate blood. After being defeated in “The Last Temptation of Barry Allen, Pt. 2,” Bloodwork was imprisoned by A.R.G.U.S. and last seen in “Liberation” giving a sample of his special blood to Eva McCulloch’s mirror minions, but forgoing their offer to free him from custody, as he was playing “the long game.” Bloodwork was then seen in the Earth-Prime comic book series being transported to 2049 to cause trouble, and after the main story was concluded, it was shown in the present day that he hadn’t been returned to his A.R.G.U.S. cell, meaning he’s still on the loose.

David Ramsey was last seen as Earth-Prime’s John Diggle in The Flash Season 8’s “The Man in the Yellow Tie,” when he visited Eobard Thawne at Lian Yu to ask for the sinister speedster’s help with opening the mysterious box that he found in the Arrow series finale. After a couple years of this mystery lingering in the Arrowverse, the cosmic contents of the box were finally revealed, but Diggle ultimately ignored its offer of greater power in favor of returning to his family. While the Dingle-centric spinoff Justice U is still in development, if that project doesn’t get off the ground, The Flash Season 9’s ninth episode may end up being the last time we see Ramsey playing Earth-Prime’s Diggle, though let’s not forget that he’s also been playing a different version of the character on Superman & Lois, which is set on another Earth.

As for Keiynan Lonsdale’s Wally West, he started out as a series regular in Seasons 2 and 3 of The Flash, recurred in Season 4 and guest-starred in the following two seasons, as well as starred in the latter half of Legends of Tomorrow Season 3. We last saw Wally in The Flash Season 6’s “Death of the Speed Force,” when he came back to Central City to help Barry investigate what was wrong at the Speed Force at the time and deal with Turtle II. Considering how important Wally has been to both this show and DC Comics’ Flash lore in general over the decades, it’s good to know we’ll see him at least one more time before this CW series wraps up.

Along with these three characters, The Flash Season 9 is also bringing in Supergirl’s Nicole Maines to reprise Nia Nal, a.k.a. Dreamer; Andy Mientus to reprise Hartley Rathaway, a.k.a. Pied Piper; and Batwoman’s Javicia Leslie to reprise Ryan Wilder (although in her case, it hasn’t been clarified if we’ll be seeing the main Ryan or a doppelgänger). The Flash’s final season will also introduce Richard Harmon as Owen Mercer, the new Captain Boomerang. While Jesse L. Martin will only be recurring as Joe West in Season 9, Jon Cor’s Mark Blaine, a.k.a. Chilblaine, has been upgraded to the main cast for these last episodes.

Arrow has been off the air now for almost three years, but one of its leading characters has maintained a recurring presence in the overall Arrowverse. David Ramsey’s John Diggle, who fought crime alongside Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen, popped up on shows like The Flash, Supergirl and Batwoman, and in January, it was reported that a spinoff series for Diggle called Justice U was in development. So where to things currently stand with this project? Ramsey has shared an update.

You’ll recall that Justice U would see John Diggle running a mission involving five young metahumans going undercover at a prestigious university, and under his education and training, they’ll become the “heroes of tomorrow.” Along with his acting duties, David Ramsey will direct the pilot, and Superman & Lois’ Michael Narducci and Grey’s Anatomy’s Zoanne Clack are writing and executive producing. We haven’t heard anything else about what’s being planned for Justice U, but Ramey assured TV Line that the spinoff is still in the works with the following: 

Sometimes it takes longer than expected to craft a project, but as David Ramsey explained, a new writer is being brought aboard to work on Justice U, though he isn’t willing to disclose the identity of the woman. The point being, the plan remains for Justice U to move forward, so while it’s obviously too late for it to be ready this TV season, maybe enough pieces will fall into place in the coming months for the pilot to shoot sometime next year. After that, it’ll be up to The CW brass to decide if Justice U should be ordered to series or pass on it and let this be a one-and-done affair that the public will never see.

A lot has changed with the Arrowverse since Justice U was revealed to the public. Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow were cancelled, The Flash is gearing up for its final season, and Superman & Lois was revealed to take place on a different Earth than Earth-Prime, thus making the Diggle on that show not the same one we followed along with on Arrow. So if Justice U is greenlit, this could be the only show to keep the main Arrowverse reality afloat by the time it starts airing. On The CW’s overall DC TV front, along with Superman & Lois coming back for Season 3, Stargirl’s third season is currently going and Gotham Knights will begin airing sometime in 2023.

In the Arrow series finale, before he and his family left for Metropolis, John Diggle saw a mysterious box from space emitting a green light crash in front of him. Diggle spent the next couple years trying to reopen the box and discover why it came to him, and he ultimately accomplished this in The Flash episode “The Man in the Yellow Tie” with Eobard Thawne’s help (no, it didn’t end up being a Green Lantern tease). However, the box disappeared after Diggle rejected its offer of cosmic power in favor of staying with his family. With that mystery solved, now the path is clear for him to embark on the journey set up for him in Justice U.

Arrow may have wrapped its eight-season run at the start of 2020, but some of its starring characters have popped up in the Arrowverse since then. Chief among them is David Ramsey’s John Diggle, a.k.a. Spartan, who guest-starred on The Flash, Batwoman, Supergirl and Superman & Lois during 2021 (Ramsey also appeared as Bass Reeves in Legends of Tomorrow). Now word’s come in that Ramsey is gearing up to reprise Diggle in his own series on The CW, and that’s not the only good news for him.

Starting off, Variety is reporting that David Ramsey is attached to star in the drama series Justice U. This show sees John Diggle recruiting five young metahumans to go undercover at a prestigious university for a mission. It’ll be up to Diggle to oversee their education and training so that they can become the “heroes of tomorrow.” Along with his starring role, Ramsey will also direct the Justice U pilot. Superman & Lois’ Michael Narducci and Grey’s Anatomy’s Zoanne Clack are on board to write and executive produce.

Keep in mind that Justice U is in early development, so while the premise may sound appealing to various Arrowverse fans, it’s not guaranteed yet it will be picked up to series. Fortunately, even if that’s the case, David Ramsey isn’t leaving this corner of the DC media landscape anytime soon. It’s also been revealed that Ramsey has signed a deal with Berlanti Productions to direct multiple episodes of numerous Arrowverse shows, as well as guest star as John Diggle in said shows. 

Justice U is currently one of the two Arrowverse shows in development at The CW, the other being Gotham Knights, which will follow Batman’s adopted son teaming up with the children of some of the Caped Crusader’s enemies after they’re framed for killing the brooding superhero. In addition to the shows mentioned earlier, the current Arrowverse lineup also includes the recently-premiered Naomi and Stargirl, although the latter series is set on a different Earth than those other shows. This Justice U news also arrives just days after CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz revealed that the network is up for sale.

In addition to his work with ARGUS seeing him help out his superhero friends in other cities like mentioned earlier, “Fadeout,” the final episode of Arrow, also set up a new chapter of John Diggle’s life. Following Oliver Queen’s funeral and during his move to Metropolis with his family, John witnessed a meteor crash, and when he came to the site of impact, he found a box with something green glowing within. While it hasn’t been stated within the Arrowverse what was in that box, it’s been confirmed that it’s a reference to the fan theories that Diggle could become Green Lantern. We’ve since learned in the character’s guest appearances on other shows that he’s experienced headaches that are likely related to this object, as well as heard a strange voice saying, “Worlds await.” He also turned down the opportunity to become “a special kind of hero.”

It stands to reason we’ll eventually get payoff to John Diggle’s mysterious arc and potential future as a Green Lantern, whether that’s explored in-depth on Justice U or sprinkled throughout his upcoming Arrowverse guest spots. Either way, we’ll keep you informed on Diggle’s future adventures, including if Justice U does indeed make its way to The CW. With the exception of him popping up in The Flash Season 6 episode “Marathon” to help Barry Allen come to terms with Oliver Queen’s death, we haven’t seen David Ramsey’s John Diggle since Arrow concluded in early 2020. However, the character will soon make a big comeback, with Diggle appearing on episodes of nearly all of the currently-airing Arrowverse shows (while Legends of Tomorrow will see Ramsey playing a new character). As far as his Batwoman appearance is concerned, it turns out that Diggle will play a key role in the journey of one of the show’s main characters: Luke Fox.

Luke Fox has been through a lot in recent episodes of Batwoman, as he was shot by a Crows agent while he was trying to prevent a carjacking, and then imagined seeing Bruce Wayne and his deceased father, Lucius Fox, while in a coma. Luke is now awake again, but considering he was ready to die, he’ll be struggling emotionally in the coming weeks. Before it was confirmed that John Diggle would specifically play a “pivotal role” in Luke’s arc, here’s what Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries had to say to EW about the Arrow character dropping in:

It was already a big deal that David Ramsey was coming in to direct an episode of Batwoman, but it’s also nice to hear that John Diggle will help Luke Fox transition into the next chapter of his life. So just how will this happen? Well, while the specifics of Diggle’s influence are being kept under wraps, last month, Ramsey said that his character would help someone “take their into their own destiny of becoming a full-fledged superhero.” Considering how long he fought crime alongside Green Arrow, he’s certainly qualified to help another person embrace the superhero life.

Cut to yesterday, it was officially confirmed that Camrus Johnson’s Luke Fox will suit up as Batwing before Batwoman Season 2 is over, with images of the character wearing high-tech armor being released to the public. This isn’t to say that Luke will suit up immediately after he and John Diggle have a heart-to-heart, but it does sound like Diggle will help push Luke towards the mantle that his comic book counterpart has held for almost a decade now, having inherited the Batwing moniker from Batman Incorporated member David Zavimbe.

While The CW’s flagship Arrowverse series Arrow, came to an end over a year ago, it didn't mark the end for one of its characters. An exciting summer lies ahead for David Ramsey and his Arrow character, John Diggle, as he will be making his highly-anticipated and teased return to the Arrowverse. Now, the actor is revealing what brings Diggle back after all this time.

If most can remember, Diggle’s story in the Arrow finale was only just beginning, as he had discovered a green meteorite that indicated the start of his run as Green Lantern. And to explore more about what that means and what could happen to him, he will be visiting Central City, National City, Gotham, Smallville and the Waverider. David Ramsey tells TVLine Diggle’s reasoning for visiting Gotham in the upcoming June 13 episode of Batwoman (which will mark his first of multiple appearances in the Arrowverse) and what A.R.G.U.S. has to do with all of this:

Meanwhile, David Ramsey’s upcoming appearance in Legends of Tomorrow has been teased as a mysterious one. Ramsey mentions that his Legends is a different person and not one that fans would expect, considering where Diggle was headed to when fans last saw him. Despite this, as Ramsey explained, it will be an interesting one:

Not only will John Diggle be returning in multiple episodes in the Arrowverse, but David Ramsey is set to direct a number of episodes as well. So all in all, he'll guest star in five episodes and directing three, and will even handle both acting and directing duties in two episodes.

The Arrowverse hasn’t seen the last of John Diggle just yet. While Arrow wrapped its eight-season run in January, the series finale hinted that Diggle’s adventures after leaving Star City were only just getting started. Now, it’s been confirmed that David Ramsey will reprise his role as Diggle in 2021, and will return to direct several episodes throughout the Arrowverse as well.

David Ramsey will return to the Arrowverse next year. As Diggle, the actor is set to appear in five episodes across Superman & Lois, The Flash, Batwoman, and Legends of Tomorrow. Per Deadline, Ramsey is also directing a total of five episodes in the shared universe, including an episode of Superman & Lois and Supergirl, respectively. The actor is no stranger to playing Diggle or directing for The CW, having helmed two episodes of Arrow before the show ended. In a statement, Ramsey shared his excitement about his return to the Arrowverse. Here’s what he said:

While Diggle’s comeback is quite exciting, his role in Legends of Tomorrow is perhaps the most noteworthy. Yes, David Ramsey will be playing Diggle, but he’s reportedly taking on another kind of role for the time-traveling superhero series that is (for now) completely shrouded in mystery. Does that mean there’s hope that Diggle will finally become Green Lantern? Honestly, the fact that the role is being kept a secret does hint at that possibility.

The last viewers saw of Diggle, he and his family were moving to Metropolis to start a new chapter of their lives. However, Diggle stopped to pick up an object that seemingly fell to Earth from space. When he opened it, a green light began to glow. The scene suggested that Diggle was about to embark on his next adventure as Green Lantern. Both Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim and David Ramsey have teased Diggle’s transformation into Green Lantern. However, they have never outright confirmed that it would ever actually happen in the Arrowverse.

My theory is that Diggle will be revealed as Green Lantern on Legends of Tomorrow before joining the HBO Max series that will feature several iterations of the superhero. Conversely, it’s possible that Ramsey is simply playing an older version of Diggle. Legends of Tomorrow is, after all, a time travel show and we’ve already seen the Waverider crew meet an older (and alternate) version of Oliver Queen.

It’s unclear which episodes Diggle will appear in just yet, but stay tuned to CinemaBlend for updates. Currently, Batwoman is scheduled to return on January 17, 2021. Meanwhile, The Flash and Superman & Lois will premiere on February 23, 2021. Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow do not yet have premiere dates.

Though Oliver Queen might not be around anymore to witness its ongoing legacy, Arrow is easily one of the most important superhero projects to ever hit the small screen. The action-packed drama birthed an entire costumed industry on The CW, where indirect spinoffs like Batwoman are keeping the cycle going into the future. From its pilot through Season 8's conclusion, the show built a fandom that will continue to provide Arrow's cast with an endless supply of adoration and questions about their experiences.

Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow)

Having had his share of portraying the playboy-turned-vigilante Oliver Queen, Stephen Amell chose to follow Arrow up with a starring role on the upcoming Starz drama Heels. With a focus on the world of independent pro wrestling, Heels will pair Amell up with Vikings' Alexander Ludwig as two head-butting brothers fighting over their late father's wrestling promotion as it grows in popularity. Amell has years of experience with pro wrestling, going back to his faux rivalry with then-WWE superstar Cody Rhodes. Amell will also be seen opposite Criminal Minds' Aisha Tyler in the short film Speech & Debate, and fans can often find him giving extended Q&A sessions on Instagram and Facebook.

Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance/Black Canary/Black Siren)

Like only a few other Arrowverse stars, Katie Cassidy got to play two different versions of Laurel Lance, with two different vigilante personas under her belt. Considering both characters were fan-favorites throughout the course of the drama's eight seasons (even when she wasn't even around), it perhaps makes all the sense in the Earth-1 that Cassidy's next big project in the works is the in-development Arrow spinoff that will be devoted to the Canaries. Cassidy made her directorial debut directing the third episode of Arrow's final season, so fans might soon get to see from of her work behind the camera.

Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak/Overwatch)

Though Emily Bett Rickards exited Arrow before its final season, her years of emotional performances as the nick-of-time tech whiz Felicity made her feel ever-present anyway. (It helped when she came back for the series finale.) Fans would no doubt love to see Felicity appear again in the Arrowverse, but for the near-future, fans will hopefully soon watch her in the indie dramedy We Need to Talk, from writer/director Todd Wolfe, which is about a self-absorbed celebrity gamer struggling to interact with people in the real world as easily as he does online. As of a year ago, in 2019, Rickards was also signed on to produce and star in Miles Forster's horror RAGs, centered on a movie serial killer who defends a group of teenagers from another dangerous killer.

David Ramsey (John Diggle/Spartan)

The kind of sidekick/bodyguard that every good vigilante deserves, David Ramsey's John Diggle was an integral part of what made Arrow's core squad so watchable. The show's fans have been craving for Ramsey to get a shot at playing the Green Lantern on the small screen, but there's nothing concrete in the cards just yet. That said, the actor did appear on The Flash after Arrow's end, so he might just stick around The CW from time to time. While he doesn't have any bigger projects publicly known to be in the works, Ramsey is currently recording Cameo videos for fans where part of the proceeds go to the Red Cross. Maybe we'll see Ramsey returning to CBS' Blue Bloods for another attempt at mayor-dom.

Willa Holland (Thea Queen/Speedy)

For six seasons and then some, Willa Holland served as Oliver's badass younger sister Thea Queen, who eventually became (and then retired and became again) the vigilante Speedy. The actress and character returned for Season 8 in a recurring capacity, but probably won't show up in the Arrowverse again. Which is a shame, since Willa Holland doesn't have anything big on the radar as far as TV or movie roles. She reprised her role as Aqua in Kingdom Hearts III in 2019, so maybe it's time to start any arguments that Kingdom Hearts should get a Disney+ TV show soon.

Paul Blackthorne (Quentin Lance)

A solid part of Arrow through its sixth season, and then again in Season 8, Paul Blackthorne was as dependable a performer as always when portraying the occasional alcoholic Quentin Lance, father to Sara and Laurel. With Quentin in his rear-view, Blackthorne will co-star with Gotham vet Morena Baccarin and Legends of Tomorrow vet John Noble in the extraterrestrial-hinged crime drama TV series Home Invasion. Blackthorne is also part of the star-studded voice cast for the upcoming animated feature Pierre the Pigeon Hawk, which also has Kenan Thompson, Howie Mandel, Nick Cannon, Whoopi Goldberg and more involved. Though it's not an on-screen role, Blackthorne serves as a producer on the upcoming females-in-football documentary Victorious.

Rick Gonzalez (Rene Ramirez/Wild Dog)

Before joining Arrow to play the anger-laden Rene Ramirez, a.k.a. Wild Dog, actor Rick Gonzalez was probably best known for his hilariously subdued reactions in the cancelled-too-soon supernatural comedy Reaper. While it's possible Wild Dog could appear in the Arrow spinoff, considering what we know of the universe's future, Rick Gonzalez is already set to show up on TV rather frequently again in the near future. Gonzalez landed a role in Langdon, which is NBC's upcoming episodic take on Dan Brown's puzzle-cracking historian Robert Langdon, of DaVinci Code fame. (Don't forget about that Calvin Klein ad he was in, either.)

Juliana Harkavy (Dinah Drake/Black Canary)

When she joined Arrow in Season 5, Juliana Harkavy was something of a controversial addition, since she was effectively (at the time) taking the Black Canary helm from Katie Cassidy's Laurel Lance. Thankfully, Cassidy returned as Black Siren and gave Harkavy a chance to develop the classic comic character Dinah Drake. Thankfully, the character survived through the events at the end of Arrow's final season, and Dinah is one of the various characters at the heart of the potential Canaries-based spinoff. There's a decent enough chance we'll see her again in Legends or The Flash, but it can't be known for sure just yet. Elsewhere, Harkavy was set to star in a '70s-set thriller titled The Lighthouse, but it's unclear if that project is still in development.

Colin Donnell (Tommy Merlyn)

Unlike everyone else on this list, Colin Donnell only starred in one season of Arrow, which was its debut year. However, the actor and character struck a major chord with fans (as well as the cast and crew), so Tommy Merlyn got to return to the show on occasion to cause confusion and mourning. (His final episode was the Season 8 premiere.) Donnell's biggest non Arrowverse role came with the NBC drama Chicago Med, though he left the drama in Season 5. He took part in a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie back in January 2020, and has appeared on the recent web talk show Stars in the House, but doesn't have anything upcoming that has been publicly announced. But, in connection with his Med history, Donnell is selling clothing and medical masks to support medical equipment suppliers.

Manu Bennett (Slade Wilson/Deathstroke)

One of the more beloved recurring Arrow characters across its eight-year run, Manu Bennett's deadly assassin Slade Wilson was in beast mode every time he was on the screen, and his take on Deathstroke will likely be the definitive live-action take for a long time. (Sorry, Joe Manganiello and Esai Morales.) Deathstroke returned in Arrow's final season for a last hurrah, but it wasn't Bennett under the mask, and it's unclear where we'll see the actor again in the near future. He showed up in a 2019 episode of The CW's Pandora, which is set to return this year for Season 2. The actor did reunite with his former Shannara Chronicles co-stars for an online reunion in April 2020, and is currently keeping busy sending messages to fans through Cameo.

Katherine McNamara (Mia Smoak/Blackstar/Green Arrow)

One of Arrow's later-stage stars, the former Shadowhunters and Maze Runner franchise star Katherine McNamara joined the CW drama in Season 7 as the future timeline's Mia Smoak, the daughter of Oliver and Felicity whose life was changed by the Crisis on Infinite Earths. She inevitably takes over the Green Arrow mantle, which went into setting up the potential Green Arrow and Canaries spinoff. Beyond that CW project, McNamara will be making waves on another big TV show, CBS All Access' take on Stephen King's The Stand. On the film side, she'll be seen in the romantic drama Finding You, as well as It's Always Sunny vet Charlie Day's comedy feature El Tonto.

Colton Haynes (Roy Harper/Arsenal)

Having gained his brooding drama cred on The Gates and Teen Wolf, Colton Haynes was a big part of Arrow's second and third seasons as the powered-up Roy Harper, who eventually adopted the vigilante persona Arsenal. After faking his death and fleeing Star City, Roy returned to Arrow several times over the remaining seasons, and appeared in three different episodes in Season 8, including the series finale. Haynes' future TV slate appears clear, but as a former star of both American Horror Story: Cult and Scream, he'll hopefully reconnect with Ryan Murphy in the future. Beyond trying to get his YouTube video-creation mojo going, Haynes may soon be seen in Brett Leonard's feature drama Triumph opposite Breaking Bad's R.J. Mitte and Empire's Terrence Howard.

John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn/Dark Archer)

John Barrowman has in arguably been one of the most enjoyable elements of the Arrowverse almost since the beginning as Arrow's Malcolm Merlyn, leader of the League of Assassins. Save for Season 6, the charismatic Barrowman appeared in varying capacities across each of Arrow's seasons, and was also a temporary regular on Legends of Tomorrow. The multi-hyphenate entertainer is also beloved for his work in Torchwood and Doctor Who as Captain Jack Harkness. Barrowman's return for Jodie Whittaker's latest season was the only publicly known on-screen role he currently has for 2020. However, the theatre veteran is set to star in the upcoming UK production of Snow White as the Wicked Queen herself. The Hollow Earth YA fantasy novel series that he writes with his sister Carole was optioned several years ago, with X-Men: First Class screenwriter tapped to pen it, but all has been quiet on that front.

Arrow's TV legacy will be felt for many more years to come, especially since nearly the entire cast has wholly embraced the fandom through conventions and social media. (And because the Arrowverse can't stop, won't stop getting new spinoffs.) We'll likely see some of these former stars reprising their heroic and villainous roles in the future in one capacity or another, even though Stephen Amell will likely never play Green Arrow again.

Arrow took its final bow in January, culminating its eight-season run with a series finale that honored Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen and the Green Arrow’s legacy as Star City’s hero. While Oliver died saving the multiverse and fighting the Anti-Monitor in the Arrow-verse crossover, “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” the other characters were left behind to pick up the pieces and move on following the series finale.

Arrow’s series finale saw the return of several familiar faces, some of whom had previously been dead. With the multiverse rebooted and all of Arrow-verse’s superheroes calling Earth Prime home, Arrow resurrected everyone from Moira Queen to Tommy Merlyn. Felicity Smoak, who was absent from Season 8 after Emily Bett Rickards’ departure in Season 7, returned to Star City and came face-to-face with her adult daughter Mia. Meanwhile, Thea Queen and Roy Harper got engaged and Dinah Drake quit being captain of the police department.

However, now that all the superheroes exist on one earth and Star City is seemingly crime-free, Arrow's characters might find themselves called upon to help out elsewhere. There is even still a chance Laurel, Mia, and Dinah get to kick some ass in the future in the Green Arrow and the Canaries spinoff, though the show has not yet been picked up by The CW. With certain character’s futures up in the air, here are six Arrow characters who can still appear in the Arrow-verse after the series finale.

John Diggle

David Ramsey’s John Diggle is an obvious choice for a multitude of reasons. First introduced in Arrow’s pilot episode, Diggle was initially hired to be Oliver’s bodyguard following an attempt on his life and subsequent kidnapping. Oliver tries to evade Diggle, but the man is ex-military and manages to keep up with the Green Arrow. It isn’t long before the two become friends and working partners.

Following Oliver’s funeral, Diggle packs up his family and decides to move to Metropolis for a new start. On the way, a mysterious crash leads him to open a glowing green box, teasing that he might become the Green Lantern. Now, Diggle could very well continue on to Metropolis and appear in episodes of Superman & Lois, the Arrow-verse’s latest spinoff ordered to series by The CW.

While he’s primarily appeared in episodes of The Flash, potentially becoming Green Lantern means that he could visit all of the Arrow-verse shows to help out as a superpowered being. I could specifically see him showing up on Supergirl, especially since J’onn J'onzz, Kara Danvers, and Brainy could help him grow accustomed to the Lantern’s alien ring.

Quentin Lance

Portrayed with vibrant conviction by Paul Blackthorne, Quentin Lance was introduced as a detective with the then-Starling City police department in Season 1. The father of Laurel and Sara Lance, Quentin was quite angry with Oliver for a long time, blaming him for the death of Sara (though she was later revealed to be alive). After a while, Quentin and Oliver came to respect each other, but he died after taking a bullet to save Earth-2’s Laurel Lance.

Arrow’s series finale revealed that Quentin Lance was alive and well in the newly minted Earth Prime. While the character has only ever crossed over to The Flash before, Quentin could find himself back at Central City’s police department, working alongside Captain Joe West. Now that crime in Star City is practically nonexistent, the former detective could assist in bringing down the crime rate for Batwoman’s Gotham City, since it’s clear the Crows aren’t doing that great a job. Naturally, the best option would be for him to show up on Legends of Tomorrow to pay Sara a visit and maybe even get in on the time travel shenanigans.

Malcolm Merlyn

John Barrowman’s Malcolm Merlyn was equal parts snark and villainy. Arrow’s Season 1 proved him a conniving antagonist who sought the destruction of the Glades. As the Dark Archer, he served as a scenery-chewing villain who went head-to-head with Oliver Queen. Seasons after revealing that he, not Robert Queen, was Thea’s biological father, Malcolm presumably died on the island of Lian Yu after stepping on a landmine in the Season 5 finale.

While Arrow’s series finale brought most everyone back from the dead, Merlyn was not confirmed to be among them. What’s more, no one actually saw him die onscreen, so the villain could return to wreak more havoc in the Arrow-verse. (No body, no death, that’s the fiction rule.) Merlyn was one of four villains, known collectively as the Legion of Doom, in Season 2 of Legends of Tomorrow. There’s a chance he could return to the time-traveling show with a nefarious plan or even show up on Batwoman. I think he’d fit right in with the corrupt in Gotham City and he always did know where to find those Lazarus Pits.

Nyssa Al Ghul

Nyssa Al Ghul was first introduced way back in Season 2 of Arrow. As a member of the League of Assassins and Ra’s Al Ghul daughter, Nyssa is an exceptional fighter, and a reluctant ally of Green Arrow. Nyssa is the ex-lover of Sara, but after seemingly dying for a second time, she mentored and trained Laurel before she eventually became Black Canary. The last we saw of Nyssa, she was joining Thea and Roy Harper on their mission to destroy the Lazarus Pits.

Not much seems to have changed with Nyssa in Earth Prime. However, considering that she and her sister, Talia, are Ra’s Al Ghul’s daughters, they would be right at home in Gotham City. Nyssa probably won’t show up as a villain on Batwoman, but she’s actively and successfully trained several Arrow characters, so she might be able to teach Kate Kane a thing or two. Now that Hawaii Five-0 has officially been cancelled, Katrina Law’s schedule might free her up to reprise her role.

Curtis Holt/Mr. Terrific

Curtis Holt first joined Team Arrow in Season 4 after discovering the Green Arrow’s bunker. As a former employee of Palmer Technologies, Curtis was already familiar with Felicity and the two became friends, later coming up with an idea to start their own company. While he ultimately became Mr. Terrific in Season 6, Curtis (Echo Kellum) left Team Arrow for a new job in Washington, D.C., occasionally returning to Star City to help his former teammates when necessary.

Curtis is the most logical choice to appear throughout all of the Arrow-verse shows. From Supergirl to The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow to Batwoman, Curtis’ tech and coding expertise makes him an additional asset to any of the superheroes and their respective teams. While he’s currently retired from being a superhero, I could see Curtis spicing up the Batcave with Luke, hanging out with Cisco over on The Flash and even figuring out a way to get digital information in and out of Black Lightning’s occupied city of Freeland.

Lyla Michaels

Audrey Marie Anderson’s Lyla Michaels was a staple of Arrow since Season 1, appearing in a handful of episodes every season. Her work with A.R.G.U.S. has often put her at odds with husband Diggle, but it was in Season 8, when Lyla became Harbinger and began working with The Monitor, that her storyline really flourished. At the tail end of Arrow's series finale, Lyla and her family were moving to Metropolis.

However, a recent episode of The Flash confirmed that Lyla was still working with A.R.G.U.S., making her the next best candidate to venture to the other shows in the Arrow-verse. Like Diggle, Lyla has primarily crossed over to The Flash. However, given her secret government agency status and the rebooted universe, Lyla could logically offer assistance to the DEO on Supergirl and even appear to help take down the ASA on Black Lightning next season. The most obvious appearance, however, might be on Superman & Lois, where she could team-up with Lois Lane should the intrepid reporter need information only Lyla has.

The possibilities are endless and the list of Arrow characters who could appear throughout the Arrow-verse are not limited to those mentioned here. While Arrow is officially over, there are still plenty of superhero shows to watch on The CW. The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow air Tuesday nights, with Supergirl and Batwoman teaming up on Sunday nights, and Black Lightning going it alone on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. Ever since it premiered in 2010, Blue Bloods has remained a stable of CBS' late-night Friday programming. The police procedural drama centers on the Reagans, an Irish Catholic family based in New York City with several family members working on the police force, and it has found a consistent viewership for 10 years now. But as it continues with its currently-airing tenth season, which cast members are still involved with the long-standing cop drama, and who has either left or been let go from the popular television series? Believe it or not, most of the cast members are still there.

Yes, surprisingly enough, a majority of the main Blue Bloods castmates have stayed with the CBS drama series for the long haul. Even though the TV program has now been on the broadcast station for a full decade and counting, several of its prominent actors, including Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, and Tom Selleck, have remained at the center. While there are rumors of castmates potentially leaving — including Sami Gayle, who plays Nicky Reagan-Boyle (and a cast member since the beginning), and Tony Terraciano, who plays Jack Regan (a reoccurring part of the cast since the get-go who has only been a guest throughout this newest season) — neither actor have announced their departures, so by no means is it confirmed at this time.

Suffice to say, the Blue Bloods cast members seem to enjoy each other's company — or, at least, they like the consistent paychecks. Whatever the reason might be, it should be noted that not a lot of prominent actors have left Blue Bloods throughout its long run.

Therefore, unlike other, similar hit broadcast TV shows like Chicago Fire, Hawaii Five-0, Chicago P.D., Law and Order: SVU, CSI, and CSI: Miami where cast members have rotated in-and-out of the program, Blue Bloods has kept its core cast members. Therefore, this list won't be quite as long and extensive in terms of naming all the various cast members who have exited and dolling out the reasons why — whether it was their choice or a decision from the writers. We'll be focusing on the few main cast mates who did leave, as well as a few other prominent reoccurring actors who haven't been on Blue Bloods since their respective departure. With that out of the way, without further ado, here are the reasons why the Blue Bloods cast members left the series.

Amy Carlson (Linda Reagan)

Throughout Blue Bloods' extended run on CBS, Amy Carlson has continued to rise up the ranks on the show in the role of Linda Reagan. She started out as a "reoccurring" cast member for Season 1, then earned the distinction of "Also Starring" for Seasons 2 through 4. And then, with Season 5, the TV actress finally became a main cast member of the popular series. Alas, it was a distinction that didn't last long. Between the end of Season 7 and the start of Season 8, Linda Reagan died in a medivac helicopter crash while tending to a patient. Since the character's shocking death, Carlson has spoken critically about Linda Reagan's sudden departure from Blue Bloods. 

The TV actress claimed in a Deadline interview that she was "surprised" by how the writers handled the character's demise, and she noted that she "wouldn't have done that" in regards to how her character perished. Carlson ultimately believes that, if she was given a choice, she would've shown the character's death on-screen, to give the fans a chance to mourn.

Jennifer Esposito (Detective Jackie Curatola)

Playing a prominent role in Blue Bloods' early seasons, Jennifer Esposito wasn't a main cast member on the CBS drama but she earned the "Also Starring" distinction during her tenure. Alas, she didn't end up staying on Blue Bloods for long. Esposito was taken off Blue Bloods before its fourth season, with Detective Jackie Curatola, her character, taking an early retirement from the NYPD after she started showing signs of burnout.

Later, in a statement, a CBS spokesperson claimed Jennifer Esposito could only commit to a "very limited part-time schedule" on the series, which ultimately wasn't conducive for their initial plans for the character. But Esposito spoke out against this aforementioned CBS statement on her social media account. The actress noted that the TV network put her on unpaid leave and ultimately barred her from working elsewhere after she was diagnosed with Celiac disease and needed a reduced schedule due to this condition, resulting in her being let go unceremoniously from the series.

Nick Turturro (Sergeant Anthony Renzulli)

An experienced police sergeant with a lot of knowledge about the 12th Precinct, Nicholas Turturro's Sergeant Anthony Renzulli has made close to 40 appearances on the popular CBS series, but he hasn't been on Blue Bloods since 2016. His character hasn't been killed off the show, so the possibility of Renzulli coming back for another episode in the later seasons isn't out of the question, but he hasn't made an appearance since Season 6. 

Even though the actor hasn't been on the program in nearly five years, Turturro kept himself busy with a variety of different film and TV projects. Notably, Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman, Kevin Can Wait, The Name of the Rose, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and various other projects currently in different stages. And he clearly enjoyed the part. In 2013, Turturro asked his Twitter followers to tell Blue Bloods and CBS that they wanted more of Renzulli, as well as possibly give him a spin-off. It's possible this tweet was mostly in jest, but it looks like he likes the role.

David Ramsey (Mayor Carter Poole)

Elected to his high-standing political position in Season 2, David Ramsey's Mayor Carter Poole has played a consistent role throughout Blue Bloods, though he's been absent from the CBS series after Season 7. While he hasn't appeared on Blue Bloods since 2017, the television actor remains busy with a few other projects, most notably in the role of John Diggle in Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow. Most likely, his ongoing commitments to this TV universe are preventing him from making more consistent appearances on Blue Bloods. But Mayor Carter Poole hasn't been killed off, so it's not without reason that he might show up on the show again someday.

As we noted earlier, a shockingly high number of Blue Bloods cast members remain on the CBS series even as the show is now settled into the double digits in terms of seasons. It looks like the actors involved don't have too many grievances about the continued work, and the show writers (well, for the most part, at least) have done their part to keep their characters alive and thriving on the popular Friday night series. 

There's always a chance that a few of these actors and characters will bid adieu to the show sometime in the future, as a couple of them have been speculated to leave in short notice. But, for the most part, these cast members are involved for the long haul, and that is not expected to change anytime in the near future — so far as we know, at least. That said, there have been at least a couple controversial exits — as we've noted.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD for the series finale of Arrow on The CW.

The Arrow series finale ended Oliver Queen's story with some closure, but another Arrow hero's journey may take him to outer space. The final episode ended John Diggle's story with Oliver's longtime righthand man packing up to move his family to Metropolis, only to be knocked to the ground by something crashing to the ground from space. That something turned out to be a glowing green box that seemingly confirmed fan speculation that Diggle is the Arrow-verse version of DC Comics Green Lantern John Stewart. So could he return to the Arrow-verse despite the end of Arrow, as Green Lantern?

The scene of Diggle finding the glowing green box was a long-awaited (and more or less promised) payoff, but it didn't show a Green Lantern ring or anything to confirm he could have a Green Lantern future. Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim addressed the big reveal in the series finale, saying this:

Unlike the Arrow-verse nabbing Ezra Miller for a last-minute appearance in "Crisis on Infinite Earths," Arrow delivering a Green Lantern twist for John Diggle has evidently been in the works for quite a long time. On the one hand, there was no real reason not to give a sign of something very exciting for John Diggle in the future, since the end of Arrow means the end of his story as the right hand of the universe's founding hero anyway. On the other hand, the larger Arrow-verse continues, and so could John Diggle's story.

As Marc Guggenheim noted, the characters left alive at the end of the series finale -- and there were quite a few living characters who were very much dead before "Crisis on Infinite Earths" -- could go in pretty much any direction. Laurel, Dinah, and Mia's futures are more or less set thanks to the 2040-set backdoor pilot for Green Arrow & the Canaries, but everybody else's future was up in the air. Who could argue that Diggle's potential Green Lantern future isn't one of the most intriguing?

Marc Guggenheim went on in his chat with Deadline to explain that there's not a lot he can say about a possible future for Diggle as a suited-up Green Lantern:

What is certain at this point is that some Green Lantern action is coming to the small screen, although not necessarily in the Arrow-verse. HBO Max ordered a Green Lantern series, which has been confirmed to include more than one Green Lantern. Could David Ramsey jump from The CW to HBO Max to play a Green Lantern, and thus add one more show to the Arrow-verse? "Crisis on Infinite Earths" already incorporated pretty much everything else from DC TV!

Even if David Ramsey isn't destined for the HBO Max series, there is a way for him to potentially suit up as Green Lantern in the Arrow-verse, and not necessarily due to his upcoming appearance on The Flash. The Arrow finale established that Diggle and his family are moving to Metropolis, which just so happens to be the setting of the upcoming Superman & Lois series. It might be kind of strange for a superhero series set in Metropolis not to include one of Arrow's surviving superheroes when he's right there, right?

David Ramsey couldn't explain what the glowing green box means for Diggle's future in the Arrow-verse, but he dropped some teasing comments at an Arrow series finale press screening (via TVLine) worth getting excited about:

Fans may not get to see Diggle suited up as Green Lantern, but David Ramsey indicates that some answers are on the way! Personally, I'm hoping Diggle at least mentions the glowing green box when he drops by The Flash in its winter premiere. He did recently see Barry, after Barry zoomed over to Star City for Oliver's funeral, and the disbanding of Team Arrow means he'd have to go somewhere else to try and dig into whatever it was that landed in front of him and glowed green.

Unfortunately, the episode description for Diggle's visit to The Flash (which is now the most senior Arrow-verse series) doesn't give away any details about what he's doing there:

The Arrow-verse continues even without Arrow, and we'll have to wait and see if Arrow's spinoff gets a series order. David Ramsey has played Arrow’s John Diggle for eight seasons, and viewers have wondered for almost as long if Diggle would ever become a member of the Green Lantern Corps. Now that the Arrow-verse crossover “Crisis on Infinite Earths” confirmed the existence of the Corps (not to mention a Green Lantern series being greenlit for HBO Max), Ramsey says Green Lantern answers are finally coming in Arrow’s series finale.

Plenty of Green Lantern-esque clues have popped up over the years, leading fans to believe a big reveal would be coming at one point or another. Here’s what David Ramsey had to say about Arrow's swan song:

It’s about damn time! While Arrow has yet to confirm Diggle’s fate in 2040 — he’s the only Team Arrow member unaccounted for in the future — there have been a lot of clues sprinkled throughout the series that Diggle’s ultimate fate may not be Earthbound at all.

The Green Lantern teases have dropped on several occasions throughout the past eight seasons. During the “Elseworlds” crossover, for instance The Flash from Earth-90 asked Diggle why he wasn’t wearing his ring. Viewers took that to mean the famous Green Lantern ring worn by Corps members, since Flash probably wouldn't be too worried about Diggle's married life.

In addition, Arrow Season 7 introduced Ernie Hudson as Diggle’s stepdad. His name? General Roy Stewart. As fans know, John Stewart is the name of one of the most famous DC Comics characters to take on the Green Lantern mantle. Stewart is also the surname of Black Lightning’s Lynn, so there might be an untapped connection there as well, made more pertinent now that B.L. has been folded into the Arrow-verse.

With Arrow’s end on the horizon, it’s high time that fans got some answers about the possible connections Diggle has to Green Lantern. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s called upon by the Green Lantern Corps at the end of the series finale, changing his name to Stewart in the process. At the very least, the reveal that he’s gone on an off-planet mission would help explain his absence from Arrow’s future timeline.

Could Diggle join the untitled Green Lantern series coming to HBO Max? Speaking with TVLine, David Ramsey expressed his excitement for the upcoming series, which will include the origin story of two Green Lanterns, but didn’t confirm whether he’d be a part of that venture. In his words:

While there’s no telling what Diggle’s future holds or what kind of Green Lantern answers fans will get by the end of Arrow’s series finale, David Ramsey will reprise his role in an upcoming episode of The Flash, though he doesn't look too Lantern-y in the first-look pics. Here’s hoping there’ll be more information about Diggle by then.

Arrow is ending, Oliver Queen is dead, and outside of a spinoff that takes place in the future, it's unclear how much the show's characters will impact the rest of the Arrow-verse moving forward. With that said, David Ramsey will appear as John Diggle in another Arrow-verse show after the Arrow finale. Strap in for speedster fun, and maybe grab a barf bag, because Diggle's headed to Central City for The Flash.

The CW has released photos for The Flash episode "Marathon," and John Diggle is seen hanging out with Barry and Iris in their lavish apartment. The details surrounding his visit are not known, but Barry appears to be examining something in a picture from the episode.

Is that a pair of swim goggles? Probably not, but the angle is awkward so it's hard to determine exactly what the two of them are looking at so intently. It could be related to the plot of "Marathon," where Barry will finally deal with the changes in his life post-Crisis, and hopefully fulfill Oliver's wish he had for Barry they talked about in the mega crossover. Diggle's arrival may play a part in that, as could this strange device they're examining.

It's also possible that Diggle is in town to lend a hand to Team Flash after Iris finds herself in a bit of trouble. She's being targeted by criminals after a big article she ran in The Citizen, and will be working to take down this evil organization. Given the potential danger involved, it wouldn't hurt to have someone with A.R.G.U.S. connections around for backup.

Diggle's appearance continues the mourning period for Oliver Queen, which will almost certainly be addressed at some point on The Flash. Barry and Oliver were close, and who better to talk about their dynamic than Oliver's best friend?

Perhaps the talking will go both ways, as appearing on The Flash will give Diggle some more friends to talk to post-Oliver. He's seen here getting a hug from Iris, though it's possible she could just be thanking him for helping out on something entirely unrelated to Oliver's death.

David Ramsey appearing on The Flash post-Arrow is exciting, and certainly leaves the door open for more former Arrow stars to appear in the future. I would wager more appearances like this will happen in the Arrow-verse in general, especially with the 20 year gap that takes place between Arrow and the Mia Smoak-centered spinoff, assuming that gets a series order. Ideally, The Flash can be one of those shows that checks in with key characters of the spinoff.

The Arrow-verse shows on The CW have always pulled out as many stops as possible when planning the annual mega-crossovers that feature heroes from all the superhero series banding together to save the world. But, as we know, this year's crossover will be bigger than usual, with five shows (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow) all getting their own hours of the event, and Black Lightning finally getting a chance to join the fight, as well as the official Arrow-verse.

While there have been many cool things announced for Crisis on Infinite Earths, few were quite as exciting as hearing that Legends of Tomorrow's Brandon Routh would get the opportunity to revisit the character that first brought him to the attention of people around the world: Superman. While there are still plenty of secrets being held about Routh's version of the iconic character for Crisis, we do know that, even though he'll be joined by current Arrow-verse Superman Tyler Hoechlin and former CW Man of Steel Tom Welling, Routh made quite an impression when he showed up in that famous supersuit.

Brandon Routh, who will also be playing his LOT character Ray Palmer / Atom for the crossover, made such an impact, in fact, that several of his co-stars were blown away by him. David Ramsey, who we all know and love as Arrow's John Diggle / Spartan, even went so far as to say that Routh will be our "golden era Superman" for Crisis on Infinite Earths:

Well, David Ramsey was clearly very impressed with Brandon Routh's appearance as Superman, wasn't he? And, I mean, since you can see Routh in character above, can you really blame him? It looks like he was definitely able to get back to that best-of-the-good-guys attitude and add on some worldly growth and wisdom. Plus, as the internet is telling me that Brandon Routh is only 6'2", it would seem that standing ramrod straight in a Superman costume, arms akimbo, adds several stately inches to one's height. All the better to quietly intimidate bad guys, I suppose.

We don't know just yet how big of a part Routh's seemingly older and wiser Superman will have in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, but from the looks of the photos that have been released, we can at least count on him showing up in Part 2 (Batwoman) and Part 3 (The Flash). Even if that's all we get of his first time reprising Superman since he played the character in 2006's Superman Returns, it sounds like it's going to be a wondrous thing to behold.

Of course, we also don't know just how this "golden era Superman" ended up looking just like Ray Palmer. It's one thing to have different versions of Flash look like Barry's Earth-1 dad, at least they're all human. Superman, as we know, is actually an alien, so if Ray crosses paths with whatever Earth's Clark Kent looks just like him, he's probably going to have some very big questions for his naturally superpowered doppelgänger.

Speaking of the two different Brandon Routh characters we're going to get in Crisis on Infinite Earths, according to Carlos Valdes (The Flash's Cisco Ramon / Vibe) watching Routh embody both of them was a real treat:

As Carlos Valdes told TV Guide, this season will be the last for Brandon Routh (and at least one other character) on Legends of Tomorrow, so fans should have even more fun watching him play Ray and Superman in this crossover.

Crisis on Infinite Earths (and its two Brandon Routh characters) will kick off with Supergirl on December 8, then carry over into Batwoman and The Flash before winter hiatus, then wrap up on Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow when the shows return in January.

Many Arrow fans undoubtedly remember back in Season 5 when the Emerald Archer's show was impacted in a key way by Barry Allen's shenanigans over on The Flash. Barry's decision to change the timeline by racing into the past to save his long-dead mom's life kicked off the big (albeit somewhat abbreviated) Flashpoint arc that changed everything for The Flash, and Arrow didn't escape unscathed. Due to Flashpoint, Diggle and Lyla's adorable daughter Sara was erased from existence and replaced by John Jr. Now, Arrow might finally fix the Flashpoint change.

Admittedly, in the grand scheme of the Arrow-verse, switching baby Sara to baby JJ wasn't the biggest deal in the history of Arrow, but a lot of Arrow viewers felt that The Flash went way too far in changing the family of a major character on another show, especially when JJ could have been Flashpoint-ed into existence without eliminating Sara. Now, David Ramsey has weighed in about whether a callback to baby Sara will happen before the end of Arrow's current and final season:

David Ramsey dropped the tantalizing tease to TVLine ahead of the November 26 episode of Arrow, so viewers will have at least another week to wait before an update on the baby Sara front. Lyla in particular hasn't let the elimination of her daughter -- even if she has no memory of ever having a daughter -- just slide, as she's mentioned it during her visits to The Flash, so there have been callbacks in the past. Ramsey's hint suggests that Sara could return in the flesh, though, right?

If this were any other season of Arrow, I'd be inclined to say that no, of course baby Sara won't return. Even if the show has gotten more fantastical with magic and metas over the years, the return of characters literally eliminated from existence is the sort of thing likely to happen only on The Flash or Legends of Tomorrow. Since this is both the last season of Arrow and in the stretch of episodes leading up to the massive "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover, however, I say that all bets are off.

And why not? I still haven't forgiven Barry Allen and The Flash for unceremoniously erasing baby Sara with nobody other than Lyla seeming to care all that much in the grand scheme of things, with Barry himself not sparing much thought for the huge way his actions changed the life of his friend over in Star City.

With The Monitor in the mix and an infinite number of Earths coming into play (unless The Anti-Monitor has his way), there are ways for at least a version of Sara to return. Could this be the whole reason why Lyla seemingly betrayed Team Arrow to work with The Monitor in the first place?

Lyla surely didn't just become Harbinger for the fun of it, and as the one person in the Arrow-verse who could be counted upon to remember the daughter who no longer exists, it would make sense if Sara is a motivator for Lyla, and Lyla helping The Monitor in order to get her daughter back would probably prevent any huge blowouts between her and Diggle, and even her and Oliver. Honestly, if she had any idea how cute Sara was, who could blame her?

Damn you, Barry Allen! How could you erase such an adorable child from existence and not feel bad about it on an ongoing basis, especially after what happened with Nora?

Of course, if Arrow does bring back Sara Diggle via "Crisis on Infinite Earths," there would likely be some heartbreak involved. If Diggle and Lyla meet a parallel version of their daughter, she would be proof of what they missed out on and lost due to a speedster making selfish decisions over on another show. Since I can only assume that a daughter of Diggle and Lyla named after Sara Lance would be awesome and badass, seeing her could be even more painful considering the kind of man JJ grew up to be.

Could The Monitor somehow restore baby Sara to Diggle and Lyla after the events of the "Crisis" crossover, since four of the five Arrow-verse series still have a future on The CW, and an Arrow spinoff may launch from the backdoor pilot in Arrow's penultimate episode (which won't feature Oliver Queen)? Sure. There could still be an element of tragedy to such a twist, though. Unless The Monitor also erased what Lyla had to do to get her daughter back, she and Diggle would always know.

Still, there's a lot that could happen with however Arrow references baby Sara before the series finale, and there should still be plenty of drama on the Diggle family front. In the present, the good guys are dealing with the fact that sweet little JJ is slated to become a murderous bad guy in hellish Star City 2040, while adult Connor is dropping bombshells on his adoptive dad before Diggle has even adopted him as a child.

Throw in what appears to be Lyla's betrayal and Diggle's knowledge that Oliver is likely to be gone sooner rather than later, and there's a lot going on even before Sara gets a shoutout at the very least. If Sara returns in the flesh -- whether as a child, flash-forward adult somehow, or parallel version -- the situation will only get stickier. Personally, I'd love if Lyla brings up baby Sara to Barry again, but I'm going to have to let the Flashpoint elimination of Arrow's cutest pre-Mia baby girl someday, right?

Arrow has wrapped filming on the final season, and the stars of the superhero drama have shared lots of heartfelt farewells. It seems like just yesterday that it was announced that Season 8 would be Arrow’s last. Since then, the eighth season has gotten underway and, on-screen, there is still more to come.

Among the things set to go down is the return of Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity for Arrow’s series finale, with an air date for that major episode having already been set. Worth noting is the fact that Rickards will not be the final season’s only return. But, for the cast of Arrow, the journey of filming all of the exciting final season is over.

Taking to Twitter, Arrow’s co-showrunner, Marc Guggenheim, commemorated the last day of production. Guggenheim posted the following farewell message on behalf of himself and fellow Arrow showrunner, Beth Schwartz. It reads:

When it came to Stephen Amell saying goodbye, he posted a particularly heartfelt picture and caption on Instagram as the final week of filming got underway. The actor, who recently took on his fiercest enemy yet, posted this before the final day of filming on Arrow. Check it out:

Original Arrow cast member (and potential spinoff star) David Ramsey shared a great post on social media. Ramsey’s message came as he prepared to get started on the final day of filming Arrow. He did so in a very cool way for fans! Check it out:

Speaking of original cast members, Colin Donnell played Oliver’s best friend, Tommy Merlyn. He is back for the last season. It is a return that has been promised in a significant way. The actor shared his thoughts and feelings about finishing Arrow with this emotional post:

Colton Haynes took to Instagram to pour his heart out about the last day of filming on Arrow. The actor, who plays Roy Harper/Arsenal, shared an emotional message in the caption and a lot of photos. Be sure to slide over to see them all!

Echo Kellum, who plays tech genius, Curtis Holt/Mr. Terrific, shared his thoughts on the final day of filming Arrow. Kellum left the show before being among those to return for the final season. On Twitter, the actor posted a tender message after Arrow wrapped production. It said:

She has a spinoff to look forward to, but that does not mean saying goodbye to Arrow is not tough. Katherine McNamara, who plays Felicity and Oliver’s grown-up daughter Mia, shared her thoughts on wrapping the show on which she originated the role. See it here:

Arrow’s eighth and final season premiere aired last night and it was a callback to the pilot in so many ways. It felt old, but different, but that’s mainly because Oliver wasn’t on his own earth, but had gone to Earth-2 to acquire Dwarf star particles for The Monitor. While it was a great episode and a strong start to the season, series star Stephen Amell teased that it’s actually Season 8, Episode 6 that is the "best episode ever."

Stephen Amell is nothing if not a hype man for Arrow. The actor, who plays Oliver Queen on the Arrow-verse series, is usually on social media, teasing fans about what to expect from the season and dropping in behind-the-scenes nuggets.

Prior to the Season 8 premiere, Stephen Amell took to Twitter to share his excitement for the sixth episode of the season, which will be directed by none other than his co-star, David Ramsey, who plays John Diggle. If fans thought the premiere was one of the best episodes, then Amell assures viewers they haven’t seen what the best of Arrow Season 8 will look like just yet.

Never one to leave his friend hanging, David Ramsey responded in kind.

The sweet exchange was just an example of the bond they share and how much they enjoy working together. It also worked to ramp up the excitement for what’s to come this season.

If that wasn’t enough, David Ramsey wants the chance to direct Stephen Amell again, so it leaves the door open for either Oliver to show back up in the Arrow-verse at some point, or Ramsey could direct an episode of Amell’s new Starz series, Heels. The latter is more of a possibility considering that the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover has fated Oliver to die.

Speaking of Oliver’s fated death, the Season 8 premiere of Arrow immediately began with his new mission for The Monitor. The cosmic entity didn’t reveal what he needed the Dwarf star particles for, but he was adamant that Oliver do his bidding regardless. Still, the Green Arrow struggled a bit with leaving his family behind while he’s in the midst of a mission and the countdown to the end of his life. Being a hero is hard.

If the premiere is any indication, Arrow Season 8 is gearing up to be a great season (even though the show killed off Earth-2 and its inhabitants). However, given the hype from Stephen Amell and David Ramsey, we’ll be waiting with bated breath for Episode 6 specifically.

The end is nigh for Arrow, but does that have to mean the end of all the Arrow characters on The CW? While there is of course the possibility of survivors who didn't end the series mysteriously shipped off elsewhere by the Monitor to simply join The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, or one of The CW's other superhero series, rumors have abounded for a while about a possible spinoff to keep an Arrow series in the Arrow-verse.

David Ramsey, who has played Oliver Queen's right-hand man from the very beginning of the show, chatted with CinemaBlend's Nick Venable at the 2019 Summer TCA Press Tour, and Ramsey said this when asked if he thought Diggle could hold his own for his own spinoff or a special one-off:

Not only could John Diggle star in his own spinoff, according to David Ramsey, but so could any of the current Arrow characters. One of the most popular (and, arguably, likely) spinoff possibilities that has been pitched by fans is a Star City 2040-type of show, starring the next generation of Arrow heroes, including Mia Smoak, William Clayton, and Connor Hawke, possibly with John Diggle, Jr. joining the ranks in Season 8. Ramsey did tease possible spinoffs!

Still, the current generation of Arrow heroes is going strong, and some will undoubtedly continue to do so even after the events of "Crisis" ultimately take Oliver out of the superhero game, at least on Earth-1.

Of any of the adult heroes in the present timeline, Diggle certainly is the most logical candidate to anchor his own spinoff. He's been around from the very first episode of the series, was a hero long before he ever donned a helmet and took a code name, and knows what he's doing. And he's married to Lyla, leader of A.R.G.U.S.!

Throw in that long-awaited Green Lantern mythos that David Ramsey already teased will have a part to play in Season 8, and the stage is practically set for Diggle as the next leading hero in Star City. He even played the part of the Green Arrow when Oliver was out of commission, and his new suit for Season 8 has green accents to it.

The eighth season of Arrow may be largely about setting up "Crisis on Infinite Earths," but there will be room for more. And if Arrow does get a spinoff set in the present timeline, would Oliver really sign on for anybody other than Diggle to step into his shoes as the lead hero of Star City? And would anybody else really deserve it, if Diggle wanted it?

Of course, assuming Diggle survives, there's no reason why he couldn't be part of a Star City 2040 spinoff, unless David Ramsey wanted to avoid the makeup process that would be required to age him up a couple of decades. We'll have to wait and see what happens once Arrow returns for its eighth and final season in the fall on The CW.

The Arrow-verse on The CW is poised to lose the show that started it all by the end of the 2019-2020 TV season. Arrow will wrap up after its upcoming eighth season, which will be by far the shortest of the series to date. The Season 7 finale ended on a reveal that seemingly points toward Oliver departing the entire Arrow-verse in a way that can't just be undone with time travel, and that raises the question: is Arrow's series finale really the end of Oliver Queen?

Members of the Arrow team spoke with CinemaBlend and other outlets at San Diego Comic-Con, and several of them weighed in on the possibility of Oliver returning following the end of Arrow. Let's start with what star Stephen Amell had to say:

In his response to the question of whether he'd return to the Arrow-verse, Stephen Amell gave a shout-out to The Flash star Grant Gustin and Supergirl leading lady Melissa Benoist. Assuming those shows last for another several years, Amell would be willing to return if one of his former fellow Arrow-verse superheroes asked. Arrow and The Flash have been the most closely connected of the Arrow-verse series, so it would be fitting if Barry wanted to reach out to Oliver, wherever Oliver ends up following "Crisis on Infinite Earths."

Considering the foreshadowing that Oliver meets his "Crisis" fate because of his "Elseworlds" determination to save Barry and Kara, it would honestly track if either of them felt connected enough to him that they'd want to see him again even years in the future. So, there's no need to despair that Stephen Amell would be unwilling to return if Barry or Kara sends out the call! That said...

Stephen Amell also noted that he's a big fan of "definitive goodbyes," and there's certainly something to be said for endings that really are the end. If Arrow comes to a satisfying conclusion -- and Oliver's ending seems like it has been more or less on the books since "Crisis" was planned -- then perhaps it would be for the best if Oliver's story is finished when the final credits roll on Arrow.

Then again, pretty much everything seems to be possible in the Arrow-verse, so it's possible The Flash or Supergirl or maybe even Legends of Tomorrow or Batwoman could incorporate an Oliver Queen from another Earth than Earth-1, or even from a point in Earth-1 Oliver's timeline before whatever happens in the Arrow series finale. There could be ways to recruit Stephen Amell without destroying the definitive goodbye at the end of Oliver's story.

Of course, it's not just up to Stephen Amell whether or not Oliver Queen ever returns to the Arrow-verse following the end of Arrow. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim weighed in on a potential future for the Arrow-verse's first superhero:

Considering how Arrow was far from guaranteed to be a hit (especially with how different it was from Smallville), nobody could have predicted back in 2012 that the gritty series about the Green Arrow would go on to launch a whole universe of superhero shows.

By the time Arrow goes off the air, the Arrow-verse will be comprised of no fewer than five series. Has anything about Arrow really been predictable? (Other than Oliver's decision to lie about William backfiring horribly. I think we all saw that coming.) It's not impossible for Oliver and Arrow elements to return!

Marc Guggenheim certainly wasn't wrong that the Arrow team did some of the biggest things they once said they wouldn't. Back in the day, for example, the plan was never to include superpowers or big names like Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne.

Superpowers have been part of Arrow more or less since Season 2, Clark Kent has appeared in the Arrow-verse on several separate occasions (and will be played by two different actors in "Crisis"), and Bruce Wayne was Batman before bailing on Gotham to kick off Batwoman. And honestly, who could have ever thought that "Crisis on Infinite Earths" would ever be adapted on The CW?

The executive producer's comments certainly don't guarantee more on the Arrow front even after Arrow ends, but "never say never" is enough of a reason to hope!

David Ramsey, who plays John Diggle on Arrow, shared some insight that could point toward a future for Arrow characters, if not necessarily Oliver Queen. When asked if there are Arrow questions he doesn't want answered in the final season, Ramsey said this:

Arrow may be ending, but that doesn't have to mean the journeys of all the Arrow characters have to be done! Fans have been speculating about a spinoff starring the next generation of Star City-baseed superheroes could happen. After all, a huge chunk of Season 7 was devoted to the adventures of Mia Smoak, William Clayton, and Connor Hawke, and Season 8 flash-forwards will introduce the adult version of Diggle and Lyla's son John Jr.

Could David Ramsey be aged up to have a part to play in a Star City 2040 series as John Diggle? Or could a different kind of spinoff happen as basically just a Green Arrow-less Arrow? Could Diggle take on the mantle of the Green Arrow on a full-time basis? His new suit for Season 8 certainly has a lot of green to it.

Find out when Arrow returns for its eighth and final season this fall, as one of two long-running CW series bowing out in the 2019-2020 TV season.

The days are finally coming, fans, when Arrow may take its official stance on John Diggle's connections to the iconic superhero Green Lantern. That possible reveal will be a long time a-coming, with viewers wanting clarification on that front for years now. Not that there are guarantees that everyone will love what they see, but here's hoping everything "rings" true to the mythos.

While we likely won't be hearing Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz offer up any full-length confessionals about Green Lantern-related reveals, series star David Ramsey did drop a meaningful hint to CinemaBlend and a handful of other press outlets while at San Diego Comic-Con. When Ramsey was asked if fans will get to see more from Diggle as a father in Season 8, here's how the actor answered:

[Double take.] What the what? Despite not being directly asked about getting any Green Lantern or John Stewart updates in the new season, David Ramsey awesomely over-shared with his answer, which is something that fans have grown to love about interviews with the actor. (Stephen Amell is also equally open and frank at times about teases, especially when compared to stars from other secretive shows.)

While John Diggle's role as a father obviously has important implications for the future, what with John Diggle Jr. officially getting cast for Season 8. (It'll be Chicago Fire and Russian Doll vet Charlie Barnett taking the role.) J.J. has been mentioned as the Deathstroke gang's leader in Star City in 2040, so it will be interesting to see how closely the writers tie him to that potential future, where he'll have a rough relationship with his adopted brother Connor Hawke (Joseph David-Jones).

For as interesting as all that is, though, Diggle's children probably don't have any direct ramifications on how the Green Lantern details get parceled out. Instead, that side of the story has deeper connections with Diggle's stepfather, General Stewart, as portrayed by Ghostbusters vet Ernie Hudson. John Stewart was one of the Green Lanterns in the comics, and he's been a suspected alter ego of some kind for John Diggle for quite a while now. It just hasn't been all that clear how.

According to what David Ramsey said at San Diego Comic-Con, though, it sounds like some meaningful answers will be coming during the final season. Not exactly a whole lot of other opportunities after that to do anything, although I suppose Green Lantern could end up becoming a lead character in Legends of Tomorrow or even in his own standalone Arrow-verse series.

Will Diggle's Green Lantern reveal have something to do with the upcoming "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover? That seems highly likely, since the "Elseworlds" crossover is where we learned that Earth-90 (whose Flash is John Wesley Shipp's version from the 1990 TV series) is where Diggle's counterpart exists as Green Lantern John Stewart. Will the world-combining efforts of the Monitor (and maybe Oliver Queen) help to turn Earth-1's Diggle into the ring-bearing hero? Or will there be another narrative-shaking event involved?

With lots of new costumes and exciting reveals to be made in its final ten episodes – though likely not any that involve Emily Bett Rickards' Felicity – Arrow will return to The CW for Season 8 on Tuesday, October 15, at 9:00 p.m. ET. For its final year, the dark drama will finally be paired with The Flash, which will kick off Season 6 on Tuesday, October 8, at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Arrow recently finished its seventh season, which not only marked the end of the series’ penultimate year, but also meant saying goodbye to a long-time cast member. Weeks ahead of filming her final installments, Emily Bett Rickards announced that she would be leaving the show, meaning Arrow’s eighth and final season will have to conclude without Felicity Queen née Smoak, a key cast member since Season 1.

David Ramsey, who plays fan-favorite Diggle, has opened up about the impact of Emily Bett Rickards’ exit. He shared that “no one” wants to do Season 8 without her. However, Ramsey still says that Arrow’s producers have teased an “exciting” season ahead. In his words:

That sounds promising! At least, more promising than a Season 8 where none of the actors are around, because everyone is off being sad about Emily Bett Rickards being gone. Whatever is in store on Arrow, it should be interesting to see how Diggle and Oliver handle the road to "Crisis on Infinity Earths" without Felicity.

Since Emily Bett Rickards exited before the final season of Arrow, there had been some hope she could return for the finale. For many, saying goodbye to Arrow would not be right without her. But that might be an inevitability.

In a recent interview, Emily Bett Rickards said that Felicity had “done her time," indicating that her and Felicity’s appearances on Arrow are a thing of the past. So hope is not exactly high that the fan-favorite will be putting in an appearance in Season 8, and David Ramsey's words don't exactly reinforce the good vibes.

Emily Bett Rickards could have filmed something during filming for Season 7 to use on Season 8. While his co-star is not interested in returning, Stephen Amell has revealed he would return for an Arrow-verse appearance post-Arrow. Maybe Rickards would have more interest if Felicity were to come back on The Flash or Supergirl.

As for what fans can expect from a Felicity-less Season 8, David Ramsey gave Digital Spy a cryptic clue/challenge of sorts.

Based on what David Ramsey is saying, Arrow fans should expect the unexpected. Which, in this case, would be Emily Bett Rickards returning for every final-season episode.

In response to whether the final season will feel like a different show, Ramsey said it will “to some degree.” Arrow will definitely be missing something crucial in its last season without Felicity, and it's assumed that more big changes are yet to come. Fans will get to experience the totally different show for only 10 episodes, the number of installments that will comprise Season 8.

At least one of those episodes will be dedicated to the next mega-crossover event in the Arrow-verse, which fans are already looking forward to. The upcoming “Crisis on Infinite Earths” will span every show in the Arrow-verse, including the new series, Batwoman. It will also unravel between two different years, with the first three episodes airing in 2019, and the two-episode conclusion running at the start of 2020. Before that can happen, of course, Arrow will need to return.

It sounds like Arrow will be taking quite a few chances on its way out. A show can either try to curb change or embrace it entirely, and it seems like Arrow is going all in. Why fight it, when there are so many villains to take their rage out on instead?

Arrow’s eighth and final season will premiere this fall on The CW.

Arrow Season 7 has been jam-packed with crazy reveals, and with so many story arcs going on, some characters' development has fallen by the wayside. That said, The CW series hasn't forgotten about this season's lesser-celebrated characters, and showrunner Beth Schwartz recently took to social media to confirm that. Schwartz revealed an upcoming script for a new episode, which seems to hint that Diggle is finally getting a big episode here soon.

The episode's title "Spartan" would seem to reference Diggle's heroic alter ego, which is somewhat strange given how Arrow Season 7 has gone so far. Diggle's primarily been helping Lyla at A.R.G.U.S., and had seemingly left his vigilante alter ego behind with his new job. With this upcoming episode, fans may see Diggle suit up yet again when the situation calls for Spartan's return.

There's also the possibility of this being an Arrow flashback episode that could tie into the flash forward story line, which recently revealed his adult son Connor Hawke. Diggle's fate in the Arrow-verse future is up in the air, although it wouldn't be surprising to see he's fallen back into old habits considering all the stuff happening there. There's also a possibility of this being an episode with flashbacks, which would further detail the character's origins.

Arrow fans who responded to Beth Schwartz's post were thrilled, with quite a few saying a John Diggle episode was well-deserved and overdue. Some are hoping for more on the character's background, while others are wondering if this episode will explain some of the odd behavior the character has shown throughout Season 7. The verdict's out on those answers, although TVLine did tease an army general from Diggle's past would come into play at some point in the season.

The two men, defined as "estranged" in the report, will come together in an unexpected situation. This might lead to Diggle donning the Spartan suit, either to bring down his former colleague or to aid him in something that A.R.G.U.S. may not approve of. If that were the case, he would probably pick another identity they don't know about for the hero work, so maybe this persona coming back is Lyla-approved?

To be quite honest, this is the most exciting thing to happen to Diggle ever since he was teased to have a Green Lantern doppelganger in the "Elseworlds" crossover. Chances are that's not happening on Arrow anytime soon, so this standalone story will work in the meantime for those eager to see something fun happening with John this season.

A.R.G.U.S. has been a sizable presence in the Arrow-verse throughout the years, but David Ramsey revealed the organization might play a role as big as it ever has in Arrow Season 7. CinemaBlend's TV Editor Nick Venable caught up with Ramsey during a roundtable interview at San Diego Comic-Con, and we learned that Arrow will focus more on the organization in the upcoming season:

David Ramsey isn't fully back in with Team Arrow at the start of Season 7 apparently, although it's looking like he and Oliver have found a way to keep the team alive in other ways. That's mainly due to A.R.G.U.S., who are still on the trail of Season 6 villain Ricardo Diaz. As mentioned, the days of "dress-up," are gone, and Oliver, Diggle, and everyone else will have to rely on A.R.G.U.S. and its resources as they continue to track Diaz.

A.R.G.U.S. isn't the worst thing for Team Arrow at the moment, as David Ramsey mentioned they have a lot to offer the new and old iterations of the group. We all know they've got some pretty handy tech for capturing metas, which is always handy regardless of the fact Star City isn't huge on villains with abilities. They've also got extensive manpower, which is also a great way to bring down any enemy that's a tough customer. Of course, it appears neither of those have been much help in capturing Diaz, who according to Ramsey is still on the lam five months after Oliver was locked away.

Regardless, this shift in dynamic is interesting, and certainly a way one would imagine Arrow creates some tension in Season 7. It seems as though A.R.G.U.S.' slow progress in tracking Diaz would be a point of frustration for all members of Team Arrow, especially when they all know they may be able to make faster progress bending the rules just a bit.

Spoilers ahead for Episode 18 of Arrow Season 6, called "Fundamentals."

John Diggle has been an essential part of Arrow from the beginning, and he brought invaluable skills to Team Arrow as Oliver's right-hand man. Unfortunately for Oliver, he and his former best bro had a falling out that resulted in a brawl in the Arrow bunker and Digg making the huge decision to leave Team Arrow. Now, in seasons past, rifts in Team Arrow didn't always last for more than a handful of episodes, but David Ramsey (who plays Diggle) already revealed to CinemaBlend that won't be the case this time around. He also explained how Digg's decision to leave the team will continue to impact Oliver and the show moving forward, saying this:

Diggle and Oliver are still going to be able to work together in the fight to take down Ricardo Diaz, but according to David Ramsey, they won't be working together the way they once did. Digg will have a different kind of autonomy as an agent of A.R.G.U.S. (which just so happens to be run by his wife) than he did as Oliver's right-hand man, and given the events of the last few episodes of Season 6, it's safe to say that he and Oliver are going to have different ideas about how to do what needs to be done. The good news is that they seemed to be done with physically fighting each other after their blowout in the bunker. Hopefully that means any further disagreements will be worked out without battling it out on top of Felicity's computers.

Of course, Diggle won't be the only one in a new position moving forward in Season 6. In "Fundamentals," Oliver came to the conclusion (after spending the episode overwhelmed by Vertigo) that he needs to get back to the basics of vigilantism, and for him, that means all the way back to the basics. He intends to fight the good fight alone now, and he may end up needing Diggle sooner rather than later. After all, Oliver didn't really make all that much headway in his mission to save Star(ling) City back in Season 1 until he brought Diggle and then Felicity on board, and he may discover sooner rather than later that he needs to accept help. Perhaps learning to work with Diggle rather than expecting Diggle to follow his directions will set him on the right path. David Ramsey also told me this about what the separation will mean for Diggle in particular:

As much as Oliver has sustained loss after loss over the years on Arrow, Diggle has lost a great deal as well, and he hasn't gotten the chance to process everything in recent years. His time away from Oliver could help him grow and truly grasp how he wants to do what he wants to do moving forward. He'll have more to do than cover Oliver's back and give Oliver advice, and that may be for the best for both men. They might never have changed if they stayed partners and best bros because they wouldn't have had the necessary motivation for growth; as heartbreaking as that big fight and the subsequent separation is, both Diggle and Oliver may be better off in the long run.

We'll have to wait and see what happens next for Oliver and Diggle as they continue to deal with the aftermath of their big fight and split. Team Arrow has gone through the wringer in Season 6, and last week's episode saw the unit lose another member when John Diggle dropped out after a seriously explosive fight with Oliver. Arrow fans have heard this song before, but David Ramsey assured CinemaBlend's own Laura Hurley this latest breakup is the worst one yet and the bad blood between Oliver and Diggle won't be fixed so easily. While Oliver and Felicity will still collaborate with Diggle over at A.R.G.U.S., it'll be a while before Team Arrow proper is back together. In the actor's words:

Arrow fans will likely appreciate the writers' decision just as much as David Ramsey did, since keeping the show's central cast on their separate paths will possibly mean great things for the Arrow-verse. Ramsey has already confirmed his new gig with A.R.G.U.S. will lead to him appearing on The Flash, and allow for Diggle to grow as a character outside of Team Arrow. The length of the breakup will also force the writers to create new team dynamics for Oliver, as Star City's troubles have gotten far too massive for him to try and protect it all by himself.

Fans have seemingly seen the results of Team Arrow's breakup elsewhere, too, as Arrow announced Colton Haynes will return as a series regular to play Roy Harper in Season 7. Roy's return as Arsenal almost has to be tied to Oliver needing to dig deep to find allies willing to work with him in the way he wants to operate, which is somewhat unsurprising, given his attitude in Season 6. That said, everyone will eventually grow up enough to put the past behind them, as Ramsey also confirmed the classic Team Arrow will once again reunite down the stretch:

How bad will things get for Diggle? Will his family be involved? Will he find new teammates? So many questions! And it's not even Season 7 yet.

Team Arrow has gone through a lot of ups and downs in Arrow Season 6 as various members discovered they can no longer work together. John Diggle left Team Arrow behind after he and Oliver talked (and fought) out their differences, and he's now moving on to a new stage in his life. Fortunately, leaving Team Arrow doesn't mean John Diggle will be gone from the Arrow-verse. He has a new arc of his own on Arrow and will soon cross over to another of the shows. David Ramsey, who has played Diggle for the past six seasons, spoke with CinemaBlend about his upcoming crossover as well as just how rare and remarkable the Arrow-verse phenomenon has become:

Arrow-verse fans can look forward to seeing David Ramsey as John Diggle on The Flash in the not-too-distant future. Ramsey also revealed that he'll drop by Arrow's sister show in his new capacity as an A.R.G.U.S. agent. Digg turned to A.R.G.U.S. after leaving Team Arrow, and he'll work with wife Lyla at the government agency for at least the foreseeable future. This won't be the first time Diggle travels to The Flash on A.R.G.U.S. business, as he joined Lyla for a trip to Central City back in Season 2 of The Flash to help Barry Allen and Co. deal with King Shark.

We can't say just yet what will bring Diggle to The Flash or how much of a role he'll have in the episode, but it should be fun to see him on another show. That said, The Flash has been pretty serious in Season 4, and one character on Team Flash just got a whole lot more dangerous. Diggle may not be around for something as straightforward as sharky shenanigans this time around.

Now, Arrow fans who are concerned about David Ramsey's comment that something like a cameo crossover "will never happen again" don't need to worry that something bad will happen to Diggle sooner rather than later. Rather, he was reflecting on how truly remarkable the Arrow-verse has become over the years. Who could have guessed when Arrow debuted back in 2012 that it would ultimately spawn a small empire of superhero series for The CW? Without Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow never would have happened, and The CW may not have seemed like a perfect fit for Supergirl if the other superhero shows weren't already airing successfully. Even Black Lightning may have Arrow's superhero success to thank for making it onto the airwaves, although Black Lightning isn't currently in the Arrow-verse. Arrow was proof that a new kind of superhero show could work on primetime.

When I asked David Ramsey if he enjoyed being a major part of the show that started it all, he said this:

It has taken six years for the Arrow-verse (and Supergirl over on Earth-38) to reach its current state, and David Ramsey may well be correct that nothing like this will ever make it to network television again. Sure, Marvel is growing a nice little pocket of superheroes on Netflix, but the Arrow-verse spans different universes, Arrow alone has run for more than 100 episodes, and the whole Arrow-verse lineup scored renewals for the 2018-2019 TV season. Arrow is even bringing back a familiar face as a regular! There's plenty of superhero action on The CW to come.

Diggle has been trudging along as the Green Arrow in Oliver's absence, but as fans are well aware, it hasn't been a walk in the park. He's still relying on the use of illegal drugs to keep his tremors under control, and recent comments from the cast have us thinking fans should be very worried about Diggle. Actor David Ramsey kicked off the fear fest by talking about his character's addiction, and how his avoidance of seeking help will soon make for a bad situation:

Arrow fans knew the drug situation was never going to play out well, but as David Ramsey told TVLine, it appears they might even get worse than originally imagined. With Ramsey going so far as to call the events that lead to him coming clean "tragic," one has to wonder just how badly Diggle drops the ball in this situation. With Diggle serving as the mentor for Team Arrow for so long, it will be a harsh morale blow for the team to see him take a tumble, provided it's as bad as he's teasing.

Fortunately, since roles have switched to Diggle playing the main hero, Stephen Amell teases that Oliver will play mentor when he eventually has a conversation with Diggle in regards to his drug addiction. The Arrow actor seems to tease that Oliver won't go the lecturing and angry route with his friend, but rather approach the situation in a way Diggle might have in the past:

Hopefully, that moment of intervention comes before Diggle interacts with Ricardo Diaz, who will make his debut on tonight's episode of Arrow. Diaz (who will be portrayed by Kirk Acevedo) has been described as an ex-con looking to control Star City's underworld, and, according to Curtis actor Echo Kellum, will be the villain tied specifically to Diggle. Arrow fans could speculate that whatever drugs Diggle is using at the moment, Diaz could be the guy behind the supply. With Diaz being described as a skilled hand to hand fighter, let's hope Diggle is at the top of his game should the two come into contact.

Arrow is all new tonight at 9 p.m. ET on The CW. Since Arrow's beginning, John Diggle has been the consistent moral center and wisdom-giving sage of Arrow. Now in Season 6, he's stepping in for Oliver to carry on the Green Arrow mantle, and actor David Ramsey says that's going to change the beloved side kick. Ramsey talked about the pressure his character is feeling taking over as the Green Arrow and how his secret will eventually find Diggle showing a side of himself audiences haven't previously seen:

David Ramsey told TVLine that those black market injections are going to affect Diggle as he becomes more reliant on the drugs to continue operating in Oliver's steed. As Ramsey said, typically one would assume Diggle feels bad about this and would eventually rat himself out, but it appears the military man is committed to doing what he has to do to get the job done. That's interesting to note, as Diggle has consistently been the moral compass of Team Arrow, so what happens to the team the longer Diggle continues to compromise his values and allow his drug habit to go on?

As for ways Green Arrow changes under Diggle, David Ramsey said the Arrow crew has worked to make his character's fighting style distinctly different from Oliver's. Ramsey said Diggle's Green Arrow is a lot more brutal in his fighting compared to Oliver and utilizes a more military style of combat:

With the drugs he's currently taking seemingly wearing off and requiring him to take more, ending fights quickly should be Diggle's mantra going forward on Arrow. If that tremor returns in the midst of a showdown, who knows what the consequences may be? Let's not forget there have to be side effects to a drug this sketchy, and there's no telling what could happen to Diggle out in the field if he doesn't get his fix prior to a mission, or what other problems he could start to see because of his dependence on that drug.

The Arrow Season 5 finale marked the end of an era, and fans have known for a while that the show would look different in Season 6 now that Oliver's flashbacks have come to an end. What we haven't known is just how the gigantic cliffhanger will affect all the characters moving forward. We can bet that they won't escape scot free, and it has been confirmed that the Season 6 premiere will catch us up with what happened right after the giant explosion. David Ramsey, who plays John Diggle, revealed some of what will happen in Season 6, and it doesn't bode well for Digg:

Well, at least we know now that Diggle survived the cliffhanger. David Ramsey explained that the explosion on Lian Yu in the Season 5 finale will have lasting ramifications for his character during a press roundtable at San Diego Comic-Con. Given the extent of the destruction on the island, it was practically a given that the survivors of Team Arrow would need some recovery time after they made it back to Star City. Apparently, Diggle won't be bouncing back from this catastrophe quite as well as he's bounced back from other catastrophes in years past.

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like David Ramsey is simply referring to emotional ramifications, although those will factor in. John Diggle may have suffered a terrible injury in the explosion. Arrow star Stephen Amell revealed at Comic-Con that there will be injuries coming out of the cliffhanger, and Ramsey had this to say about the types of trauma Diggle will be dealing with moving forward:

David Ramsey clearly couldn't spill too many details about what's in store for John Diggle in Season 6, but it certainly sounds like Digg was seriously injured in the cliffhanger explosion. In all of those traumas that Ramsey listed, including Andy Diggle's death, Laurel's murder, and his own imprisonment, Diggle was not physically hurt. As a man who has been a skilled soldier and crime-fighter from the very beginning, an injury that takes him out of the fight would definitely be difficult to recover from, and it would likely change him permanently.

If Arrow does go the route of injuring and perhaps even crippling Diggle, it wouldn't be the first time that a major character was taken out of commission. Felicity was shot and lost the use of her legs back in Season 4, and it was only thanks to a piece of advanced tech that she was able to walk again. I'm not sure Arrow would try to pull the same move of crippling one of Oliver's original teammates and then restoring their abilities within a handful of episodes, so I expect poor Diggle really will struggle with whatever happens to him for quite a while.

Whatever happens, we can only hope that the storyline is fully explored. David Ramsey has proved that he can tackle whatever Arrow throws at him, and a lasting arc about the repercussions of the explosion could showcase him in a pretty fascinating way. Considering the nature of the new bad guys in Season 6, Diggle likely be anxious to get back in the game. We'll have to wait and see.

The Black Canary has returned to Arrow, and the latest incarnation is unlike any other Canary to hit the streets of Star City so far. Dinah Drake is actually a metahuman with a Canary Cry, and the inclusion of a superpowered hero on Team Arrow will change the scale of how the good guys can fight crime. The big question now is whether she is too much of a wild card to stand with Team Arrow against the likes of Prometheus. Actor David Ramsey plays original Team Arrow member John Diggle, and he recently spoke to CinemaBlend about how the new Black Canary will begin her life in Star City, saying this:

Dinah Drake was originally a cop in Central City, but she left the life of official law and order behind after the death of her partner, and she was wreaking havoc on the bad guys of Hub City when Team Arrow found her. It took the entire episode for Oliver to convince Dinah to uproot her life and join their cause in Star City, and she's clearly not going to be as easily cowed by Oliver as the other team newbies were when they joined. She isn't going to open herself up emotionally at the drop of a hat.

If Dinah opens up and reaches out at the wrong time, she could become a major liability for Team Arrow. We already saw earlier this season that Prometheus was able to play on Evelyn's vulnerabilities and recruit her; it's possible that he could find Dinah's weak spot and turn her against her new teammates. Even if she doesn't necessarily join Prometheus' cause, he could certainly do something to encourage her to go rogue, and her abilities as a metahuman mean that a rogue Black Canary would be big trouble for any who get in her way.

David Ramsey elaborated on Dinah's difficult position in Team Arrow, telling me this about her potential susceptibility moving forward:

No matter how Oliver and Co. welcome Dinah, she'll still be the new kid in school. Who can blame her if she can't immediately settle into the team? David Ramsey also teased that Diggle will do what he can to ease her transition in the same way that he did with Wild Dog, but that may not be enough with a supervillain like Prometheus on the loose.

The Dinah we've seen so far is a strong-willed character who has a distinct sense of right vs. wrong that transcends the rules of law and order; if she goes off the straight and narrow in Star City, Oliver and Co. will have a significantly harder time stopping her than they did Evelyn. After all, Evelyn was a teenage girl with a bow and arrows. Dinah Drake is the metahuman Black Canary, complete with Canary Cry. We'll have to wait and see if Dinah causes trouble for Oliver and Team Arrow in the rest of Season 5. It sounds like she has the best intentions with her decision to make the move to Star City; we can't know just yet if those intentions will shift the longer she stays.

It's hard to argue against Oliver Queen being probably the most relatable hero in the Arrow-verse. Sure, he's got mad archery skills and muscles for days, but he's still just a man. Despite his physical limitations, though, Stephen Amell seems to think that Oliver has already started to prepare for an inevitable battle against some of the Arrow-verse's most powerful heroes. Like the Boy Scouts, it's all about being prepared. The Arrow actor explained Oliver's insurance again a particular super-someone:

Stephen Amell and David Ramsey recently took the stage at Wizard World New Orleans (via GeekSquire) and addressed Oliver Queen's concerns about the other heroes in the Arrow-verse. As Amell explained, Oliver has seen the capabilities of the people around him, and he has almost certainly developed contingencies for handling each of them. He has already had to fight against Kryptonians and speedsters over the course of his career as a vigilante, so he knows the importance of making sure that he can take them down if necessary.

Comic book fans have seen moments like this before, and Green Arrow is obviously no stranger to Kryptonite. The character famously used the radioactive rock during the events of The Dark Knight Returns to take down Superman in the middle of the Man of Steel's fight with an aging Batman -- thus ensuring victory for The Caped Crusader. Oliver has already met Kara Danvers, so we're sure he knows about her bigger and stronger cousin. We can only imagine that the thought of Kal-El's very existence, no matter what Earth he's from, doesn't help Oliver sleep too well at night.

After Stephen Amell's answer, David Ramsey similarly chimed in to point out that such a plot thread could pave the way for a great crossover next year. The heroes of the Arrow-verse have become an incredibly cohesive unit over the course of the last few years, so driving a rift between Oliver and the superpowered members of the small screen DC world could represent incredibly fertile storytelling ground. It's also worth noting that the idea bears a ton of similarity to the famous Tower of Babel storyline, in which Batman's secret plans for taking down every member of the Justice League fell into the hands of Ra's Al Ghul. Green Arrow has essentially become The CW's surrogate Batman, so it wouldn't be surprising to see The Emerald Archer take The Dark Knight's place.

As the Arrow-verse continues its expansion, I think seeing Oliver Queen prepare to fight against his closest allies could represent the next logical narrative step. Kryptonite hasn't made its way to Star City just yet, but we would love to see Green Arrow start to tinker with it in his Arrow-cave. If things start looking similar to what happens in the clip above, prepare for good times.

The first crossover between Arrow and The Flash represented a watershed moment for The CW. John Diggle meeting the Scarlet Speedster opened up a whole new world of possibility for comedy and storytelling. With the imminent debut of Supergirl in the Arrow-verse, we can expect even more of that comedy in the near future. Meeting an alien is apparently going to be a big deal for Diggle, and he's definitely going to have a visceral reaction to Kara Danvers' arrival. Actor David Ramsey explained:

During a recent panel at Salt Lake Comic-Con, David Ramsey and Stephen Amell discussed the arrival of Supergirl among the ranks of The CW's DC heroes. Referencing Diggle's reaction to seeing metahumans for the very first time in Season 3 of Arrow, Ramsey explained that the act of meeting an alien would require a much bigger and funnier response. What's the next logical step from throwing Big Belly Burger fries? Peeing yourself, obviously.

Stephen Amell and David Ramsey then proceed to do a little bit of improv showcasing what such a scene might look like during the upcoming crossover event. Diggle's a tough guy, but given what we've seen from him when he faces off against metahumans and magic, we wouldn't put it past him to pee himself -- just a little bit. After all, this is a guy who said "what next, aliens?" when he learned about supersoldiers like Deathstroke.

Just think: Diggle's reaction to seeing Supergirl for the very first time will actually RIVAL that scene. Don't be surprised if he pees himself. Although Arrow's fifth season will see it return to the darker sensibilities of its earlier episodes, we're glad to see some of the more recent humor will continue when the crossover occurs. That just helps balance things out.

In Season 4 of Arrow, Damien Darhk arrived and made everyone's lives terrible, particularly the members of Team Arrow. No one had an easy time of it, and viewers even had to make some sacrifices as David Ramsey's John Diggle spent a good chunk of the season dealing with a subplot involving his brother, putting some distance between him and Oliver & Co. Ramsey spoke with Cinema Blend and other outlets during roundtable interviews at Comic-Con, and when I asked if he would be back in the thick of the action in Season 5, here's what he had to say.

Double yes! One for Diggle and one for Spartan. David Ramsey wasn't the only one speaking enthusiastically about the upcoming season's tonal shift from Darhk's mysticism to the gritty crime drama that the series started out as, and everyone on hand from Arrow was jazzed about going back to basics on the superhero series. But now fans can rest assured that we won't be going through the entirety of Season 5 will Diggle leading an entirely separate military subplot while mourning the death of his brother.

With some minor adjustments to his costume and mask, Diggle will hopefully be a brutal force to be reckoned with when Season 5 starts picking up steam in its crime lord-driven narrative, featuring Chad L. Coleman as the gangster Tobias Church. This show definitely is at its best when the good guys are getting along and all agree that beating the crap out of the bad guys is the best move. Things won't start out like that, though, as Ramsey explained when it would be that he gets his groove back with Team Arrow.

That's right, Diggle will be a free agent when Season 5 gets underway, as Felicity and Arrow start drawing in other recruits for the team, including Curtis "Mr. Terrific" Holt, Eveyln "Artemis" Sharp and Jack "Wild Dog" Wheeler. We will definitely see Speedy and Diggle returning to headquarters at some point, though, to keep the action and adventure at a fever pitch, even if the newbies have to take some backtalk when it happens. Season 5 will also be notable for being the final year of the flashbacks, though I'm pretty sure Diggle is more interested in meeting Supergirl than Oliver's past.

The DC universe on The CW started with Arrow back in 2012 with Oliver Queen and his partner John Diggle tackling crime on the streets in Starling City. The DC universe has since expanded with the more fantastical Flash and Legends of Tomorrow joining the superhero lineup. Arrow remains mostly grounded in reality, and so the expansion of the DC universe has exposed the regular folks of Arrow to some distinctly irregular characters from the other series. Now that Supergirl will be moving to The CW in the fall, the Arrow crew will encounter the most impossible ally yet with the superpowered alien Kara. According to David Ramsay, John Diggle might be the member of Team Arrow to have an extreme reaction to Kara.

The actor didn't mince words in his prediction of how Diggle might react to Kara. Here's what David Ramsay had to say:

David Ramsay shared his theory about how Digg could respond to the sight of Kara in flight at the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in Secaucus, NJ. The idea of the big, tough, stoic John Diggle freaking out to the point of wetting himself just a little bit is both hilarious and somewhat realistic. He literally tossed his food the first time he saw Barry running at superspeed, and he wasn't exactly thrilled that his later trip to Central City involved chasing down a man-shark metahuman going by the name King Shark. A cheerful blonde girl from Krypton flying across the horizon to say hello could definitely push him over the edge.

Personally, I'm more excited about Diggle's reaction to Kara than anybody else's on Team Arrow. Felicity will probably be cool with the science of the situation, and Oliver seems to have resigned himself to meeting people with crazy powers every once in a while, but Digg still has a ways to go before superpowers can be an acceptable part of the norm for him. David Ramsay is great with comedy, so Digg's first meeting with Kara may be just what a crossover event needs for some levity. After all, the characters generally don't cross over en masse unless there's a crisis in one of their cities, and crises often aren't all that funny. Digg giving Kara the side-eye for a while could definitely bring some laughs.

Of course, given how large The CW's DC universe will be as of Fall 2016, Diggle might not play too significant a part in any major crossover extravaganzas between the four shows. Oliver, Barry, and Kara will have to contribute in major ways on behalf of their shows, and the Legends of Tomorrow ensemble will be pretty big. Even side characters as important as Diggle could be benched for the big crossovers. Hopefully, whenever he encounters Kara for the first time, the episode will give him time to react as only Diggle can: with barely-contained and pretty damn funny panic.

Unfortunately, it'll be a while before we get to see David Ramsay back in action as John Diggle in The CW's DC universe. Team Arrow is currently split, and Digg is off somewhere with the army. Oliver's love life has gone through a lot of changes over the years on Arrow. He spent the first season and a half or so bedding just about every age-appropriate woman on the show, but it wasn't until he openly set his sights on Felicity, however, that we really saw how much he changed. The big scary vigilante was monogamous to a relationship that wasn't even there in Season 3, and he was ready to propose by the Season 4 premiere. Some fans were most vocally not thrilled by the big Olicity-centric romantic twists of Seasons 3 and 4, and unfortunately for them, Season 5 may offer up more of the same.

Diggle actor David Ramsay dropped a possible spoiler that could mean Oliver won't be setting his heart or eyes on somebody new any time soon.

David Ramsay's reveal at the Heroes and Villains FanFest in New Jersey (via Fangirlish), shouldn't make a certain faction of fans very happy. Seasons 3 and 4 were the first time that Oliver's attentions in the present were set on one woman for a prolonged period of time, and some fans just didn't like that Olicity was getting so much attention compared to Oliver's past dalliances. There were arrows to be shot and bad guys to be thwarted and comic canons to be honored. Arrow is not and has never been a romance.

It's not hard to see why Oliver's topsy-turvy love life in Season 4 could have been a drag for many viewers. His relationship with Felicity started out the season pretty low-key most of the time, but the show went too far in amping up the melodrama to break them up. The storyline with Oliver's secret kid seemed mostly in service of ending Olicity, and that arc was pretty damaging to Oliver's character in general. The show just wasn't all that good during the melodramatic straits of Season 4, and some of that had to do with how Arrow was handling the main character's romance.

Star Stephen Amell had an amended version of things to tell the crowd, saying that Oliver and Felicity can have a meaningful relationship without being romantically involved, and that they're in a great place right now. But then he went on to make this hard-to-misconstrue claim.

Geesh, even Amell's festival comments are rife with melodrama. And there's no denying that melodramatic romance has always been a part of Arrow. One of the very first things the pilot episode revealed was that Oliver was coming back from the dead after seemingly drowning while on a sex cruise with his girlfriend's sister. The premise was basically a superhero soap opera, and the soapiness clearly did not end even when Oliver's relationships with both of the Lance sisters ended. Now that Sara is on Legends of Tomorrow and Laurel is in the Great Beyond, it's looking like the most logical candidate to continue occupying the love interest role in Oliver's heroic journey is Felicity.

Of course, this is all great news for the Arrow viewers who have fallen for Olicity. Oliver/Felicity is a surprisingly sweet romance that really feels like it was never supposed to happen, especially considering the comics on which Arrow has been loosely based. The Green Arrow's traditional comic love interest has been the Black Canary, while Felicity Smoak's traditional comics role has been as Firestorm's stepmom who happened to be good with computers. Emily Bett Rickards was brought on to play an Easter egg character, but a few seasons later, she became Oliver's lady love.

It's been an unexpected progression that Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards have worked to sell over the years even when the writing has thrown third-party love interests and a surprise illegitimate child in their path. Season 4 clearly didn't end with Oliver being emotionally over Felicity, so it's really not all that much of a surprise that the moony Mr. Monogamy might want to get back together with her.

Only time will tell if, when, how, and why (oh why) Oliver and Felicity might get back together as David Ramsay has said, although we can bet that the debate among fans will go on and on until the show cements things. We don't know too much about the plot of the present in Season 5, so anything is really possible at this point. Who knows? Maybe Felicity will take one look at Oliver's new Arrow suit and remember a few of the reasons why she fell for him in the first place. Arrow has gone through some pretty drastic changes over the past year and a half, and none have been so major as the inflation of Team Arrow as Oliver was joined by extra masked crimefighters in the field. One character who had actually been in need of a mask since way back in Season 1 was John Diggle, so Digg finally receiving some identity concealment in Season 4 was a welcome change. The helmet is certainly unlike any other mask on the show, and according to actor David Ramsey, it's already getting an upgrade.

David Ramsey’s reveal about the helmet upgrade in his interview with IGN actually makes a lot of sense. We’ve already learned that Digg will be crossing over to The Flash for the fifteenth episode of Season 2 to deal with King Shark, and the team at S.T.A.R. Labs taking the opportunity to upgrade his gear fits. Well, maybe probably more from Cisco Ramon than the whole team. As the genius engineer and vigilante costume designer extraordinaire of the Flarrow-verse, Cisco has had a hand in outfitting major heroes on Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow as well as on The Flash.

Hopefully, the upgrades to the helmet make it look somewhat less ridiculous. As great as it is that Digg now has some head cover for his night job as the hero known as Spartan, the helmet has always been a bit silly. Quite aside from the unfortunate similarities to the Magneto mask, it doesn’t actually cover the back of his head. Some more actual protection in addition to whatever new gadgets might be coming would be great.

David Ramsey himself hasn’t yet seen the new helmet, but he sure is excited. Honestly, it nice to know that he has something to be excited about when it comes to Digg in the field. He spent three years going out to battle either barefaced or with a ski mask, so he’s earned something awesome. Hopefully, the upgrades will be worthy of him, even if not necessarily totally effective against Damien Darhk and magic.

Arrow and The Flash limit their big crossovers - last month saw the heroes teaming up with Hawkman and Hawkgirl to battle Vandal Savage - but there are plenty of opportunities for mini-crossovers on both shows. Case in point: actor David Ramsey, who plays Arrow’s John Diggle, teased this past weekend that he would be appearing on The Flash later this season. Now we finally have the details of what he’ll be doing in Central City, and it involves a big metahuman problem. Literally!

Diggle and his wife Lyla Michaels (played by Audrey Marie Anderson) will appear in Episode 15 of The Flash Season 2 to help the S.T.A.R. Labs team battle King Shark, who we last saw in “The Fury of Firestorm.” Here’s what executive producer Andrew Kresiberg told Comicbook.com about Diggle’s visit:

Although Diggle has appeared on both official Arrow/The Flash crossovers, this will be his first time hanging out with the Scarlet Speedster without Oliver and Felicity along, and hopefully he wont lose his lunch again. Arrow Season 4 has finally seen Diggle obscuring his features with a helmet while operating in the field (though still no codename), so he’ll be able to keep his identity safe while in Central City. Since Lyla still appears to have a working relationship with A.R.G.U.S., it makes sense the organization would send her and Diggle after King Shark, given they’ve dealt with superpowered threats more than others. Kreisberg previously said that it was too expensive to do a full King Shark episode on The Flash, but it sounds like they found a way to make it work, putting the fishy monstrosity in good company with Grodd.

It’s hard to keep villain appearances a secret in this day and age, but King Shark’s appearance on The Flash earlier this season came as a complete surprise to many. After Patty first mentioned a crime she was investigating where she found a shark tooth and rumors of a “man-shark,” King Shark came out of nowhere in the final seconds of “The Fury of Firestorm” and snagged Barry. Like Atom Smasher and Sand Demon, he was one of the many metahumans Zoom brought over from Earth Two to kill Flash. It was only thanks to Earth Two Harrison Wells and his fancy energy gun that Barry didn’t become shark chow. Fun fact: there is also an Earth One King Shark who was seen in The Flash: Season Zero digital comic book, but it doesn’t look like the show will be sinking its teeth into him anytime soon.

The Flash returns with new episodes on Tuesday, January 19 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW, while Arrow returns the following day at the same time. To see when everything else is premiering in the coming months, head over to our midseason TV schedule.

It wasn’t that long ago that we last saw the citizens of Star City and Central City sharing space with one another for the heavily promoted crossover event between Arrow and The Flash. But it looks like there may be more connective tissues between the series on the way, as actor David Ramsey revealed the Scarlet Speedster may soon host John Diggle for an evening.

It would have been possible that Ramsey was just making a random trip to the writers’ room to talk with a friend of his, or something else completely unrelated from him appearing on The Flash. But “can only mean one thing” obviously doesn’t mean that. Wait, or does it? I’m going to check Urban Dictionary to make sure “You just got Diggled” isn’t slang for being pranked.

For reals, though, it’s always a good time when Arrow characters make their way over to assist the S.T.A.R. Labs team in whatever minor disaster is happening. We have to wonder if Diggle is the only one making the trip for this future adventure, or if Oliver and Thea will also be tagging along. We’ll just go ahead and assume that Felicity will be too busy surviving those gunshots to get out and about.

Considering the last crossover episode helped to set up the upcoming spinoff Legends of Tomorrow, the stakes will presumably be a lot lower for this next team-up, with no Vandal Savage around to destroy everything. That said, Zoom has proven he’s a formidable opponent for Barry, and any help in stopping the big bad’s master plan will be accepted. I want to see Diggle using his helmet to headbutt the shit out of Zoom, although that would likely end in Diggle getting smashed to a pulp.

The second batch of Season 2 episodes will fill The Flash with other returning characters like Killer Frost and Reverse-Flash, with even Robbie Amell’s Ronnie Raymond coming back for a crazy twist. Diggle will certainly have his hands full no matter what happens, but if he’s wearing that Bruce Lee hat, he’ll come out the victor no matter what.

Arrow is known for its flashbacks sprinkled throughout the present-day storylines, but the Season 4 premiere switched things up by gazing into the future. After establishing Team Arrow’s new conflict with Damien Darhk and H.I.V.E., the episode flash-forwarded six months to Oliver standing in front of a grave. Although Oliver is clearly emotional over the loss of this person and tells Barry Allen he’s going to kill the man responsible, they never show the name on the tombstone. Since then, fans have been speculating on which character died, and while John Diggle’s actor David Ramsey is in the dark like everyone else, he has a few thoughts on the matter.

Despite Season 4 having already undone a few deaths, Ramsey reminded EW that Arrow is still following its pattern of permanently taking a lead character off the board each season. He said:

Ramsey then delved into who the potential candidates might be, though he dismissed quite few of them. He did admit his own character John Diggle might be a contender, though he believes Diggle’s burial would be more ceremonial given his military background. However, he dismissed Felicity as an option, despite Oliver’s emotional reaction, saying that the show wouldn’t want to break up their relationship and Oliver probably wouldn’t be able to talk if she died. Ramsey also doesn’t think Thea and Laurel are likely either, given that the former is the only family Oliver has left and they wouldn’t want to have Quentin Lance dealing with another dead daughter by offing the latter. Speaking of Lance, Ramsey also doesn’t think it could be him, simply because Oliver wouldn’t be that upset over his death. Harsh words, but he might be right.

Moving away from the main characters, Ramsey then theorized on how it might be someone from Oliver’s past, like Shado’s twin sister Mei or Oliver’s Lian Yu love interest Taiana, or a character we haven’t met yet who will play an important role later this season. Then he delved into more ridiculous territory by musing whether it could someone from Earth Two; with everything going on this season, it seems doubtful Arrow would throw in the alternate world introduced on The Flash on top of everything else. Because Arrow seasons tend to usually last the same amount of time as they run in real life (i.e. around eight months), it stands to reason we’ll see who kicks the bucket sometime in March or April, unless of course the show does a big time jump next year.

The casting news for Ivan Reitman’s upcoming football-themed comedy Draft Day has been coming fast and furious this month thanks to a deadline that most films aren’t tethered to. Due to the film’s subject matter, Reitman will be filming at the 2013 NFL Draft, which starts tomorrow, on April 25. Production began today in New York.

With most of the lead roles filled already, a forty yard dash was made to fill in all of the smaller roles, and Summit Entertainment and OddLot Entertainment issued a press release today announcing that a chock-full of actors have been added to the cast. The more exciting names on that list include NFL player-turned-actor Terry Crews, who adds badassery to any film he’s in, and Josh Pence, who is probably best known for playing Tyler Winklevoss in David Fincher’s The Social Network (albeit without his own face). Sean Combs will also be adding his sunglasses-wearing acting skills to the project, and Rosanna Arquette is also in the picture as Kevin Costner's ex wife. And while I expected more actual football players to be making an appearance in the movie, the Houston Texans’ running back Arian Foster is the only one on the list.

The rest of the cast of this highly-recognizable ensemble includes David Ramsey (Arrow), Wade Williams (Prison Break), Chi McBride (Pushing Daisies), W. Earl Brown (Rogue), Brad Henke (Justified), Griffin Newman (Political Animals), Kevin Dunn (Luck), Pat Healy (The Innkeepers), Wallace Langham (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Christopher Cousins (Breaking Bad) and Patrick St. Esprit (Sons of Anarchy).

They’ll be filling the world and war room of Draft Day, which will see Costner play the GM of the hapless Cleveland Browns, who is solely interested in securing a number one pick in the draft. Frank Langella will play the Browns’ owner, Jennifer Garner will be Costner’s secretary, and Ellen Burstyn will play Costner’s mother. Veep’s Timothy Simons and 42’s Chad Boseman are also starring.

If you’re one of those that will be watching the draft, keep an eye out for Reitman or any of these actors. It’ll almost be like you’re watching the movie itself.
