Deadpool & Wolverine star Emma Corrin recently pitched a spinoff they'd like to do, and I'm so in on this idea.

Deadpool & Wolverine broke box office records upon its release, which turned heads after recent box office bombs like The Marvels. Given its wild success, it seems inevitable that Ryan Reynolds' corner of the MCU might be expanded upon in the future. Corrin spoke to Variety about possibly reprising their role as Cassandra Nova, offering a fun idea about how to make it happen. In the actor's words:

Take my money. In the comics, Cassandra Nova is the ill-fated twin sister of Professor X who survives her death in the womb by becoming a telepathic parasite. Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order would likely be thrilled if they saw Cassandra and Charles Xavier share the screen together, especially if Patrick Stewart reprised his role to play opposite Emma Corrin. Fingers crossed that Kevin Feige and company are listening.

Corrin crushed it as Cassandra in Deadpool & Wolverine, pivoting between being a terrifying villain and having comedic beats opposite Ryan Reynolds and company. And while the character seemingly perished at the end of Shawn Levy's blockbuster, that doesn't mean she has to stay dead forever.

For his part, Patrick Stewart has already reprised his role as Charles Xavier a number of times in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He had a brief role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse, as Professor X was part of the Illuminati that Wanda brutally murdered. But he'll seemingly get much more screentime in his next appearance, as Stewart is part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast. He'll appear alongside many of the OG stars of the X-Men movies, and fans can't wait to see how this all shakes out when the mysterious movie hits theaters in December.

Although perhaps he's talking about a fourth Deadpool movie, rather than popping up as his signature character in other Marvel projects. Fingers crossed.

Wade Wilson has lead a trio of blockbusters, so audiences (myself included) are invested in his story. I personally think taking him out of the spotlight and making him a supporting character in future MCU movies might be a misstep. Sure, he'll crack audiences up, but I'm sure there are plenty of moviegoers that would like to see him centered in a fourth solo movie.

Of course, fans will likely take Reynolds' words and try to guess how Deadpool will be used in future Marvel projects. Is he teasing the hero finally joining the X-Men, or perhaps forming a new version of X-Force? To note, were originally plans for an X-Force movie prior to Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox and its properties.

While it's exciting that Ryan Reynolds is already cooking up ideas for Deadpool, I assume I'm not the only fan who is having mixed feelings about the character not being "centered" in any of his own projects anymore. Yes, I want to see him interact with other heroes in the MCU, but I also think Wade Wilson deserves the spotlight.

Of course, fans are wondering if Reynolds is going to appear in either Avenger: Doomsday or Secret Wars. While he hasn't been officially confirmed for either blockbuster, its multiversal story means just about anything could happen. We'll just have to wait and keep our fingers crossed that Wade Wilson appears sooner rather than later.

Deadpool & Wolverine's box office performance was made all the more significant after recent MCU bombs like The Marvels. As such, it seems inevitable that Reynolds and Jackman would return to those roles sooner rather than later. But it's currently unclear when that'll happen; neither actor was included in the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement.

2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine features plenty of familiar faces from the Ryan Reynolds-led franchise, but one notable cast member was absent. T.J. Miller didn’t return as Wade Wilson’s good buddy, Weasel, in the superhero movie threequel following legal issues as well as alleged behind-the-scenes issues with Reynolds. Despite his past beef with his former co-star, though, Miller recently shared some comments that may suggest he could return for the Marvel series’ fourth film, which is reportedly in the works.

Miller continues to tour as a comedian and, during a recent stop in Detroit, he chatted with 101 WRIF. Talk eventually turned to the Deadpool franchise, which is allegedly set to continue under the purview of Marvel Studios. With that, Miller was specifically asked if the proverbial ship had sailed for him to be in another one of those Wade Wilson-fronted movies. And the Big Hero 6 alum shared an optimistic response:

To be clear, at this point, there’s been no official confirmation that a fourth Deadpool film is among the slate of upcoming Marvel movies. However, reports indicate that despite previous claims, Reynolds is currently focusing much of his attention on developing that supposed superhero movie. On that note, Miller even went as far as to say that he’s been in contact with Reynolds as of late, and the comic claimed they discussed the concept for DP4:

These comments are starkly different from the sentiments T.J. Miller shared about Ryan Reynolds a few years ago. In 2022, Miller went viral when he shared his belief that Reynolds “hate[d]” him and claimed there was a moment on set in which Reynolds was “horrifically mean” to him while in character as Wilson. However, sometime after, Miller said he and Reynolds communicated via email and sorted out their differences. Still, by late 2024, Miller reiterated the “hate” assumptions and said he “would not work with” Reynolds again.

During his interview with 101 WRIF, though, Miller had nothing but praise to shower on Reynolds. Miller specifically shared what he appreciated about Reynolds as a creative force and where they currently stand on a personal front:

The exclusion of T.J. Miller – who appears as bartender Weasel in the first two Deadpool films – from D&W came several years after he was accused of sexual assault by an unnamed woman in 2017. Both Miller and his wife, Kate Gorney, denied the claims from the woman, who they reportedly went to college with. And, in 2018, Miller was arrested by the feds for making a fake bomb threat in New York while aboard an Amtrak train. Those charges were eventually dismissed in 2021.

Considering Miller’s past controversies, it’s honestly hard to say whether Marvel Studios would bring him back to reprise Weasel. Still, Miller’s latest comments seem to suggest there’s a chance he’ll share the screen with Reynolds in a fourth Deadpool movie. Fans will have to wait and see what happens but, in the meantime, they can stream the first three films in Reynolds’ superhero franchise using a Disney+ subscription.

Even with Avengers: Doomsday already boasting a sprawling ensemble cast, rumors continue to circulate about other actors who will appear in the upcoming Marvel movie. That includes Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, who finally got to have a proper team-up in the Marvel space for 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Now one of the latest Doomsday rumors claims that Logan and Wade Wilson are going to be fighting one of their fellow Marvel superheroes, and the reason why surprises me.

Take this with a grain of salt for now, but according to scooper MyTimeToShineHello (via ComicBookMovie), Deadpool and Wolverine will face off against Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, who was last seen in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Although it had previously been rumored that Wolverine and this version of Spidey would tussle, this latest update throws the Merc with the Mouth into the mix. Additionally, it’s mentioned that the reason they’re fighting is because Deadpool and Wolverine go to the universe where Maguire’s Peter Parker lives (i.e. the setting of the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man movies) to destroy it.

Now, you may be wondering why Wolverine and Deadpool would want to do this, or how these two would even go about accomplishing that. I can’t answer that second question, but as the beginning of the end of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, it’s been repeatedly claimed that Avengers: Doomsday will see the emergence of multiple Incursions, just like what we saw in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Furthermore, it’s also been rumored lately that the X-Men universe we’re seeing in Doomsday has been the target of multiple Incursions, and those mutant characters have traveled to other universes and destroyed them to ward off the destruction of their own.

I should note that the Wolverine and Deadpool we’ll likely see in Avengers: Doomsday, assuming that’s even accurate information, hail from the universe where the original X-Men movies took place. The X-Men universe that’s been talked about lately in regard to Doomsday, however, is a separate one where humanity and mutants allegedly live in a utopia, though it came at a cost. In other words, I’m not convinced that we’ll see Deadpool and Wolverine share screen time with the Professor X, Magneto and Cyclops we saw in the X-Men-focused Doomsday teaser, but I welcome being proven wrong.

But going back to their fight with Spider-Man, my guess for now is that the Web-Slinger is the anchor being of his universe. If he dies, then his universe will slowly die as a result, though it would take a Time Ripper device to accelerate that demise. As cool as it would be to see Wolverine and Deadpool fight Spider-Man, I expect that eventually they’ll come to an understanding and join forces. Marvel has delivered some shocking moments over the years, but I doubt the studio would go so far as to show Tobey Maguire’s Spidey being impaled by Wolverine’s claws or Deadpool’s swords.

We also evidently don’t have to worry about anything bad happening to Wolverine or Deadpool regardless of whether or not they appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Hugh Jackman is said to be in it for the long haul at Marvel, and Ryan Reynolds is reportedly developing a Deadpool/X-Men team-up movie. As for the near future, Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18, and Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027.

On paper, that sounds like a careful, artist-first approach. But behind the scenes, the IF actor may not have as much breathing room as it appears.

Yet, reports suggest that Deadpool remains his most straightforward path back to the version of himself audiences love most.

There’s no shortage of Marvel crossover ideas floating around the internet, especially with the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the Russo Brothers' Avengers: Doomsday soon to hit the 2026 movie schedule, but every once in a while, one actually makes you stop and say, “Yeah… that would work.” On that note, Chris Pratt just shared which character he’d like to see Quill cross paths with in a new Marvel movie, and honestly, it’s hard to argue with his pick.

Speaking to Screen Rant while promoting his new sci-fi thriller Mercy, Chris Pratt was asked about potential Marvel crossovers now that the studio has access to characters previously locked behind other studios. As he put it:

A Star-Lord and Deadpool crossover feels almost too obvious on a tonal level. Pratt’s Peter Quill has always lived in that sweet spot between sincere emotional beats and pop-culture-fueled chaos. Deadpool, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds, thrives on breaking the fourth wall and undercutting tension. Put them together, and you’d get a collision of humor styles that could be complementary.

What makes Pratt’s comments especially interesting is the timing. Star-Lord was last seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which wrapped up James Gunn’s trilogy while reshuffling the team and sending Quill back to Earth. The film’s end credits explicitly promised that “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return,” but Marvel has stayed quiet about when or where that might happen.

Most speculation points toward Quill's return in the two-part Avengers event currently on the horizon, which includes Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. That said, neither Star-Lord nor Deadpool has been officially confirmed for Doomsday, and rumors about Reynolds’ involvement remain conflicting.

Pratt mentioned wanting to be part of the process, even as a “fly on the wall.” That suggests genuine curiosity about how Marvel could balance Deadpool’s irreverent tone with the larger MCU machine, something fans have been debating since the merger became official. There is also the question of whether or not, with the restraint of a PG-13 rating, the character can thrive because, as of now, he's only ever appeared in R-rated territory.

Will it actually happen? That’s still very much up in the air. But if Avengers: Secret Wars truly is positioned as a multiversal blowout and soft reset, there may not be a better time to let Star-Lord and Deadpool cross paths.

Deadpool & Wolverine doesn’t waste much time diving into the ridiculous. Within minutes of the studio logo, the titular Merc With The Mouth is featured in a fight with Time Variance Authority agents set to the hit NSYNC’s song “Bye Bye Bye.” The sequence kicks off the blockbuster with a big fan-friendly moment, and one of the key contributors was Nick Pauley – the masked dancer who is featured busting out Justin Timberlake-styled moves.

If you were under the impression that it was Ryan Reynolds who learned the “Bye Bye Bye” choreography and performed it in the film, I’m sorry to disappoint you, but as a condolence, allow me to offer you the story behind the sequence from Pauley himself. The dancer recently contributed an article to Polygon explaining how the gig came together.

Those who know how Marvel operates won’t be surprised to learn that the whole process was cloaked in secrecy, as Nick Pauley first learned about the job via a vague text from his agent suggesting that he learn the dance moves from one of the biggest music videos of the ‘00s. He writes:

It was quick work, but work that also very quickly paid off. He recounts that it was within 24 hours that he got a response from his agent telling him that he was needed for a costume fitting the next day. At this point, he still had no idea what he was working on.

His level of awareness changed after he drove down from the Bay Area to Los Angeles and got access to a “warehouse in Burbank” and saw the costume he would be wearing for the production... but the whole picture still wasn’t clear. He knew he was going to be doing the NSYNC moves as Deadpool, but he thought it might just be for a bit of marketing. It wasn’t until Pauley actually arrived on set that he realized he was going to be featured in Deadpool & Wolverine – and it was an experience heightened by his own fanhood. The dancer writes,

As for the suit itself, Nick Pauley can be counted as a fan. While superhero suits are generally made by costume departments to be more functional/aesthetically awesome than comfortable, the dancer apparently didn’t feel hindered in performing the choreography:

Pauley notes that the production had to pause every couple of takes because breathing was difficult with his face covered, and it wasn’t the easiest thing to remove the mask because it required removing the swords and the shoulder strap before unzipping the back of the costume. He recounts that he had to do about 15 takes total… but the hard work proved worth it for the final result.

I don’t think there’s any denying the makeup in Wicked and the For Good sequel is both intensive and intriguing. OK, you know like two sentences ago when I mentioned Jonathan Bailey had a “slightly” NSFW answer about Fiyero’s journey from real boy to –and spoilers – the infamous scarecrow from Oz? That was a lie. He had a NOTABLY NSFW answer about the entire ordeal, telling EW that when he wasn’t fully in costume yet, the whole thing was a nightmarish adventure.

Welp, now I can never unsee that Wicked: For Good imagery. It sounds like “big wheat penis” was the best they could do, too, as he went through an intense amount of work before the movie got the whole look right. The end result is certainly memorable, in Bailey’s estimation… particularly when the straw was in place. However, it sounds like the whole thing was rather uncomfortable on set.

This isn’t the first time someone involved in a big budget movie has talked about needing “plumbing,” aka a cooling system to keep them cool amidst filming. Superhero actors are very familiar with the process, with Paul Bettany (Vision) needing a tubing system in place to keep cool. At least I’m hoping Bailey was able to take bathroom breaks, unlike some other heroes we know.

Shortly after Wicked: For Good dropped, a slew of funny internet posts compared Bailey’s scarecrow to Ryan Reynolds, and in some cases, specifically Reynolds’ Deadpool.

I don't think Jonathan Bailey intended to insult Ryan Reynolds with his "wheat penis" comment, but the two things will forever be tied together in my mind. Many apologies to the Deadpool actor, but hey, at least he's not being compared to a "shar pei" this time.

In an era where superhero movies are the most important films being released in theaters, the Deadpool movies are among the top tier of superhero franchises. The three Deadpool films have each been massive blockbusters, with Deadpool & Wolverine clearing $1 billion at the global box office at a time when fewer films are having massive box office success. It’s hard to believe the series has come so far and one person who can’t believe it is co-star Morena Baccarin.

Baccarin, who also stars in the series Sherriff Country, recently spoke with Variety and said that she really can’t believe how successful the series has been. Next year will mark the 10th anniversary of the first Deadpool movie, and the actress admits she can’t believe that this many years later the film would become what it is today. She said…

It is pretty hard to believe that Deadpool is as massive a franchise as it is, especially considering how close it came to not being anything. Reynolds had been trying to get a Deadpool movie made for some time, ultimately getting the ok to film some test footage. Fox reportedly passed on making a full movie based on the footage, but that’s when the story really takes off.

The Deadpool test footage leaked online, exactly who is responsible has never been fully clear, though Ryan Reynolds himself is the prime suspect. When fans saw the footage, everybody flipped out, and it became so popular that ultimately the movie was given the greenlight.

Deadpool would be a huge success, one of the highest grossing R-rated movies ever made. It would in turn spawn two sequels. Deadpool & Wolverine (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription) would outdo the previous Deadpool movies at the box office, but if there was a downside to it was that Morena Baccarin wasn’t in it much. Her relationship with Wade has always been core to the movies, and the lack of it was one of the few things missing in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order will recall that there have been some peaks and valleys in the years since Avengers: Endgame hit theaters. But Shawn Levy's Deadpool & Wolverine broke records, and the director recently shared a sweet photo dump for Ryan Reynolds' birthday. And I particularly love the BTS images of them working on that MCU flick.

Yesterday was Ryan Reynolds' birthday, with the acclaimed actor/writer/producer turning 49. He's been getting a ton of love online, including from his bestie and frequent collaborator Shawn Levy. The Stranger Things director shared the following post on Instagram, featuring some cool images of them working on Deadpool & Wolverine together. Check it out below:

How sweet is that? Clearly there's a ton of love between these two, who have worked together on a variety of projects including Free Guy, The Adam Project, and (of course) Deadpool 3. The latter is represented in the photo dump's second and fifth images, which show them working on set. We see Levy and Reynolds giggling at the TVA headquarters, as well as a shot of the actor in a battle-ravaged version of Wade Wilson's costume. Am I the only one who likes seeing how the sausage gets made via these images?

While Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's faux feud is delightful for fans, Shawn Levy is showing nothing but love on his IG post, which was shared to his whopping 795k followers. Although Jackman does make an appearance in the photo dump, completing this trio of icons.

Given how wildly successful Deadpool & Wolverine was, fans are eager for information about if/when Levy and Reynolds might work on a fourth installment in the R-rated franchise. For his part, Ryan Reynolds shut down the idea of jumping right back into the development stage, but another Deadpool flick seems like it'll definitely happen eventually. The question is just a matter of when. Fans are also hoping that Wade Wilson and Logan might appear in upcoming Marvel movies like Avengers: Doomsday and/or Secret Wars.

Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy met through Hugh Jackman, and the two have been working closely together for years now. Without a doubt, the most highly anticipated upcoming Marvel movie is Avengers: Doomsday, which will feature a giant ensemble cast. Some epic fan art imagined even more heroes joining the blockbuster, and I really hope some of them actually end up appearing courtesy of The Russo Brothers.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday is limited, but fans are hyped about seeing entire teams of superheroes collide during its runtime. The Doomsday cast announcement confirmed a ton of actors, but a number of fan favorites were noticeably missing. Now, some fan art from Instagram has given them their own chairs, and it's pretty awesome to see. Check it out below:

Moviegoers who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order know that certain characters have become fan favorites. Many of which are in this image, meaning they haven't been officially announced to have a role in Doomsday. Chief among them are Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, Tom Holland's Spider-Man, and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk. It's wild to imagine that the blockbuster won't feature any of the faces in the above image, but perhaps a few will be able to join the fray.

Kevin Feige confirmed the announcement didn't feature every single member of the Doomsday cast, so there is still real hope that we'll see some of the other rumored heroes. Hopefully, we get some more information about the next Avengers movie sooner rather than later.

For their part, a number of actors from the above image have spoken about not appearing in Avengers: Doomsday. Elizabeth Olsen denied having a role, although fans might not believe her. Mark Ruffalo also joked about not having his own chair, claiming the studio doesn't trust him with spoilers and left him out. But given how often Marvel stars are asked to lie to prevent spoilers, there's not a ton of trust between the actors and their fans.

Some other faces in this fan art include Chris Evans, who was rumored to be playing a variant of Captain America in Doomsday. There are also some more OG actors from the X-Men movies in Halle Berry's Storm and Famke Janssen's Jean Grey. Rather than wearing their black leather costumes from the Fox movies, they're shown wearing bright, comic-accurate costumes. We also see Punisher, Deadpool, and even Moon Knight included in this fan art. And with Doomday being a multiversal story, it feels like just about anything could happen.

All will be revealed when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18th of next year as art of the 2026 movie release list. We'll just have to wait and see how many more Marvel stars get to join the already massive cast.

The love for John Candy’s legacy has been in full force as of late due in great part to the release of the new documentary I Like Me (which is streamable with a Prime Video subscription). Ryan Reynolds served as a producer on the film and, while promoting it, he has discussed his respect and admiration for Candy, who died at 43 in 1994. Not only that, but Reynolds also revealed how there are Candy-centric Easter eggs in the Deadpool movies. Now, the star is paying tribute to Candy in another very sweet way.

One of the most touching aspects of John Candy: I Like Me is the portion that covers the late comedian’s visit to Harvard in the ‘80s. Believe it or not, that visit was actually put together by a student whose name fans might recognize – Conan O’Brien. While on the campus, Candy posed next to the statue of the school’s namesake, John Harvard. Ryan Reynolds, being so keen to follow in his comedy hero’s footsteps, actually did the same thing during his own visit to the university. Check out the post he shared to his Instagram story:

The notion of standing in the same exact spot as the Stripes icon is surreal to me. Had I been at Harvard as Reynolds was, I’d have likely taken the opportunity to do the same. I’m just endlessly delighted by the various ways in which Reynolds has paid homage to one of the most beloved entertainers in the history of Hollywood. Collectively, these tributes further serve as a testament to the effect Candy had on people, and Reynolds isn’t the only star who was positively impacted by him.

Conan O’Brien discussed his own interactions with John Candy during the documentary, explaining how surprised he was that the SCTV alum would agree to come to the campus. What was even more surreal was for the then-aspiring comedy writer to take Candy around campus and even try (in vain) to monitor what he ate.

O’Brien also revealed that during their time together, Candy advised him that when it came to comedy, “You don’t try it. You either do it or you don’t do it. You don’t try it, kid.” It’s fair to say O’Brien took that to heart, and he's been doing it in earnest for decades.

Honestly, those Harvard-related anecdotes are just a few of the sweet details shared in I Like Me, which is directed by Colin Hanks. The film chronicles the Uncle Buck star’s humble beginnings and his eventual rise to fame. Of course, it also doesn’t shy away from discussing his professional setbacks as well as his struggles with his weight and alcohol consumption. What Hanks ultimately crafts is a portrait of a man who wasn’t perfect but worked hard to be the kind of man and comedian people could be proud of.

Ryan Reynolds certainly seems to admire John Candy hence his desire to team up with the late star’s kids to make the doc. The film aside, Reynolds also thinks there are other ways in which Candy should be memorialized. When someone suggested that Candy’s face should appear on Canadian currency, Reynolds agreed, and it didn’t seem like he was just joking about that suggestion either.

I greatly appreciate various tributes to Candy, including the nods in the Deadpool movies, which pertain to Trains, Planes and Automobiles. However, there’s just something about this Harvard photo that just feels particularly sentimental and personal. I’d imagine that Reynolds will cherish that memento for years to come.

Over the years, Ryan Reynolds has discussed some of the stars he admired at a young age, and John Candy is high on that list. I’d honestly never caught all of these nods but, after learning about them, I find them incredibly sweet.

Ryan Reynolds recently appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote his new documentary. Meyers eventually pointed out that Reynolds peppered references to John Candy throughout the Deadpool trilogy. The first – and I can’t believe I didn’t know Reynolds previously discussed this tribute – is the book The Canadian Mounted. That piece of literature is what Candy’s Planes, Trains and Automobiles character, Del Griffith, reads in the movie. That’s not the only reference to Planes that’s tucked into the Marvel movie series, either. After seeing the Late Night interview (which is on YouTube) I was also surprised to learn that the burnt-out 1983 Chrysler LeBaron convertible that Del and Neal Page use in the film also appears in Deadpool & Wolverine, when the two titular characters traverse The Void. Seriously, as someone who considers himself to be relatively observant, I can’t believe I never noticed that vehicle in that shot. As Reynolds humorously mentioned on Late Night, though, the car had to be renamed the Grand Detroit to avoid legal issues. In addition to the car and the presence of The Canadian Mounted, there are a few other specific references to Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

As Ryan Reynolds noted (via People) during a special presentation of the John Candy doc, the Merc with a Mouth also gives an impassioned appeal to Wolverine similar to Del’s “I like me” speech. On that same token, Logan chews out Wade in a way that mirrors Neal’s berating of Del. Reynolds said during the event that in the movie, the adamantium clawed mutant essentially “rips Wade Wilson a new asshole.” (And that’s a spot-on assessment.)

Those references to candy in the Deadpool movies were sweet enough ways for the Free Guy star to honor him, but the documentary is an even better way to do so. Directed by Colin Hanks, the film was seemingly a passionate project for Reynolds and, with the help of Candy’s kids, he and Hanks crafted a sweet film to honor the late star’s memory and get fans in their feelings.

Honestly, the Deadpool flicks hit just a little differently with the knowledge that there are so many references to the work of John Candy. It’s surreal to think that the world has been without Candy’s comedic brilliance for over 30 years now. Despite that, his legacy lives on through his kids as well as fans – including Ryan Reynolds – who continue to pay homage to his work.

Honestly, the reasoning is pretty legit.

Deadpool & Wolverine broke records at the box office upon its release, with Shawn Levy's blockbuster putting Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's faux feud on display for audiences. While moviegoers might assume that Reynolds' vision is clear from the jump, an interview with TorontoLife revealed more about how he writes for Wade Wilson. In his words:

Well, my mind is blown. This offers a peek behind the curtain on how Deadpool movies come together, and makes a great deal of sense. Because while all three blockbusters are jam packed with R-rated humor, there' also an emotional story underneath. And that's key to the property's wild success, both critically and at the box office.

In the first Deadpool movie, the story was about Wade Wilson's self-loathing, and the worry that Morena Baccarin's Vanessa wouldn't love him after his appearance was so drastically changed. For the second movie, it was about Cable's tragic backstory and Wade Wilson using his trauma to connect with Julian Dennison's Firefist. And both of these helped to buoy these movies outside of the constant barrage of fourth wall-breaking humor.

Of course, Deadpool & Wolverine brought back Hugh Jackman's Logan, this time a variant from another universe. Rather than being the hero we know and love, this version of Wolverine had failed to save his loved ones and the rest of the X-Men. He was filled with regret and bitterness, which was quite a mix of feelings to be dealing with amidst Wade Wilson's antics.

In the end this story was powerful, and Deadpool & Wolverine showed how much box office power the MCU could still have. Fans are hoping to see its title characters in upcoming Marvel movies, specifically the next two Avengers movies. We'll have to wait and see if/when they actually do.

Now, the franchise’s star, Ryan Reynolds, has confirmed what fans long suspected—he leaked the video in 2014, a move that kick-started one of the unlikeliest superhero movie franchises in modern film history, paving the way for the Merc with a Mouth to join the MCU officially. The studios may have been comfortable announcing people like Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh and Letitia Wright back in March, but naturally some surprises need to kept secret. So while Reynolds is all too willing to joke about more John Candy easter eggs, and maybe he has indeed not stepped foot on the Avengers: Doomsday set, let’s not rule out that Deadpool will appear just yet.

Some of you reading this may now remember when Ryan Reynolds posted last month on Instagram the Avengers logo with a red ‘A’ over it. In a separate interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, the man who starred in the frequently-criticized (mostly from him) Green Lantern clarified that he wasn’t teasing anything Avengers: Doomsday-related, but rather sharing an unused flag design from Deadpool & Wolverine. As he explained:

With Deadpool & Wolverine sending its title protagonists into The Void, that allowed for all sorts of characters and easter eggs from past Marvel movies to be seamlessly shown. Most of those were tied to the original X-Men film series, but the final version of that Avengers flag provided another connective thread to the main MCU reality. We also learned in Deadpool & Wolverine that after Deadpool 2, Wade hopped over to Earth-616 to try and join the superhero team, but he was turned down by Happy Hogan.

Avengers: Doomsday doesn’t come out until December 18, 2026, so there’s plenty of time for Ryan Reynolds to be confirmed or even debunked before its release. Me, I’ll continue hoping its the former option, because I desperately want to see the Merc with the Mouth troll the likes of Captain America and the Fantastic Four, as well as find out what exactly is going on between him and Thor.

Marvel security is tight, and extensive reshoots are a regular part of the process. Director Nia Dacosta revealed that The Marvels' script wasn't even done when she started working on the blockbuster.

In the same interview, Leitch spoke about wanting to have more creative control in the MCU if he's going to be part of it. He also name-dropped some original concepts that he produced recently. In his words:

The Kelly that Leitch is referencing is Kelly McCormick, who is his wife and producing partner. The pair have worked on a number of notable projects together, including Bullet Train, Violent Night, the Nobody franchise, and Atomic Blonde. Deadpool 2 is on that list, but it's the only Marvel blockbuster this dynamic duo have collaborated on... yet.

It's currently unclear if/when the Deadpool franchise might return for a fourth installment. Ryan Reynolds has expressed interest in a break, although fans are hoping that we still see him playing Wade Wilson in crossover projects like Avengers: Doomsday and/or Secret Wars.

Per The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision, we can expect to see Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday, but there's one important note to keep in mind. Apparently the hilarious hero will appear in the movie, but will not join Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Now, the report didn't elaborate much further, but THR is definitely considered a trusted trade in the world of moviemaking, and between that and this post from Reynolds' Instagram (below), it definitely looks like the Merc With A Mouth will be joining the sprawling cast of Avengers: Doomsday.

Earlier this year, Ryan Reynolds explained that Deadpool can never become a member of X-Men or the Avengers because it would be "his wish fulfillment," and he wants to keep him as an underdog. However, wouldn't it be fun if Deadpool popped up somewhere during the Avengers: Doomsday plot line? I imagine it being a cameo or single scene, but it definitely feels right to include the character after Deadpool & Wolverine was one of the biggest highlights of the Multiverse Saga thus far.

It's a lot sooner than I expected, given we've historically had to wait quite a long time between Deadpool appearances. I guess the wait between Deadpool and Deadpool 2 was a matter of two years, but fans like me had to be patient for six long years before last summer's Deadpool & Wolverine.

In November 2024, when Ryan Reynolds was asked about Deadpool 4, he said it had been six years because making those movies "swallows" his "life whole" and he wants to prioritize his four kids. So while I'm somewhat shocked Deadpool is returning already, I imagine if it's a small role, Reynolds is probably like, "Sign me up!"

Instantly, I have to imagine Deadpool either crashes some epic battle in hopes of being part of the Avengers, and I just know Ryan Reynolds is going to come up with a funny way to interact with the story. But will Doomsday be the movie where he finds out why Thor was crying in that video Wade Wilson sees at the TVA? It would be such a great callback if the upcoming Avengers films does give payoff for that moment for Deadpool & Wolverine.

My other question is if Deadpool will be bringing along his new pal, Wolverine as well? It would be absolutely amazing if Hugh Jackman could reunite with the other X-Men that have already been confirmed for Doomsday.

Although Kevin Feige did confirm that not every actor in the movie was included in that announcement. Alternatively, Deadpool could show up in Secret Wars instead.

The timing of Reynolds' above post definitely seems purposeful, as Doomsday is in the midst of filming as we speak. Whether or not this is n actual confirmation remains to be seen, but it's clear that fans are still obsessed over why Thor was crying over Wade Wilson. Hopefully the studio has plans to offer a payoff for this ongoing debate.

Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters December 18th of next year as part of the 2026 movie release list. For now, we can re-watch the Deadpool movies on Disney+.

In addition to its strong opening weekend performance, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has been met with a lot of positive critical reception, so it’s fair to call it one of Marvel Studios’ successes. However, not everyone’s a fan of the latest adaptation of Marvel’s First Family. Rob Liefeld, who co-created Deadpool with Fabian Nicieza, didn’t mince words while sharing his thoughts about the 2025 movie starring Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby’s Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Thing and Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch.

Following five months after he took aim at Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige over Captain America: Brave New World’s box office drop, Liefeld went on X to share a picture he took of an empty IMAX theater screening First Steps to accompany his negative reaction to the movie. Check it out:

Ok, I need to point out that Rob Liefeld posted this on Tuesday. Sure, it’s a shame that theater wasn’t packed, but at 5 pm on a Tuesday, a lot of people are either still at work or have just come home and might not be in the mood to go straight back out to see a movie. Plus, IMAX tickets cost more than what you’d pay for a standard screening, so taking those factors into consideration, I don’t think the amount of attendees in that theater should be considered indicative of The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ quality.

Still, Rob Liefeld is entitled to his opinion about First Steps, as no movie is ever going to please every person that sees it. Still, this continues the writer/artist’s critical streak towards Marvel. Back in January, he expressed his dissatisfaction at Deadpool & Wolverine not including Josh Brolin’s Cable. Then the following month, Liefeld shared that he’d severed ties with Marvel over issues that began in 2023, but reached a tipping point over alleged slights at the Deadpool & Wolverine New York premiere. Also, in February 2024, he announced that he was retiring from working on Deadpool comics, though he cited his age as the main reason for this.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps may not have Rob Liefeld’s cup of tea, but with its 86% Tomatometer and 92% Popcornmeter scores on Rotten Tomatoes, it certainly was for many others. A Fantastic Four sequel is reportedly already in development, and as theorized by Variety last month, it could fit into one of the four theatrical slot’s Marvel’s blocked off for 2028. Other possibilities include the long-awaited Blade reboot, Black Panther 3 and the X-Men reboot.

But we don’t have to wait until then to reunite with the MCU’s Fantastic Four, as they’ll return for Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027. Finger crossed that Rob Liefeld is more entertained by their appearances in those gigantic ensembles.

If there’s one thing that fans who’ve enjoyed the Marvel movies in order have known for a long time now, it’s that the studio behind 2025 movies like Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and recent hit The Fantastic Four: First Steps always has lots of creative irons in the fire. As such, there are several films that were announced as being in the planning stages years ago, but which have been slow to take root. Now, though, we’ve gotten an update on the Blade reboot, Black Panther, and Deadpool, as superhero franchises experience a “pullback.”

What’s Been Said About The Current Plans For Blade, Deadpool And Black Panther?

It was roughly six years ago (during San Diego Comic-Con 2019) that a Blade reboot starring Oscar winner Mahershala Ali was announced with much fanfare. Numerous delays have hit the upcoming Marvel movie since then (even with some potential good news about the story involving Wesley Snipes, as well), and we still don’t have any idea when things will get rolling.

Meanwhile, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is doing well in theaters, and with major hits in the studio’s rearview like Deadpool & Wolverine and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, many are wondering where things stand with the long-awaited reboot and new appearances for old faves like Deadpool and Black Panther. According to a report from Variety, fans should be prepared to wait even longer in at least two cases, as the outlet notes:

As everyone who pays close attention to the world of superhero movies will likely realize, we are hardly in the pre-pandemic boom times that kept all of our excitement levels at 100. This means that things have changed across the board when it comes to spending mega-bucks on every potential superhero blockbuster, especially when one of the biggest markets for those movies, China, has begun to turn its attention elsewhere and business for new superhero movies is way down in that country.

While we can look forward to Spider-Man: Brand New Day on the 2026 movies schedule, as well as the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday (with both currently filming), those two will be exceptions to the new rule of doing everything possible to “keep the cost down,” which includes not loading up casts with A-list talent who command major salaries. Because of that, the Ryan Reynolds-starring Deadpool franchise, as well as the Ali-led Blade update, are still in a holding pattern for now.

However, with Ryan Coogler still riding the high of Sinners, his early 2025 horror hit starring Marvel favorite Michael B. Jordan, things are percolating at a much higher level for a third Black Panther film, particularly with Denzel Washington rebelling against MCU secrecy and revealing he’s going to be in the movie.

Obviously, lots of folks will be disappointed by this update, but remember that some good news is better than none.

Time is a cruel mistress, want proof? Look no further than Ryan Reynolds' social media. Reynolds recently celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the first entry in his popular R-rated Marvel movie franchise with an awesome video. Now, though, the man who portrays the Merc with a Mouth on the big screen is marking the first anniversary of the release of Deadpool & Wolverine (which is available to stream with a Disney+ subscription). And Reynolds marked the occasion in a truly sweet way.

Ryan Reynolds took to his Instagram stories to share an incredible BTS image of the wonderful actors and actresses who made up the many cameos in Deadpool 3. The picture, which you can see below, includes Hugh Jackman, Channing Tatum, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, Dafne Keen (who are all in full costume) and of course, the film's director, Shawn Levy. It's wild to think it's already been a year since Wade Wilson and Logan hit theaters and broke the box office, especially after all the time it took for a third Deadpool movie to be produced by Marvel Studios. When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox and all its properties, it finally paved the way for Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool to join the fun. However, it still took years before fans got to see Deady-Pool and Wolvie on screen together and, when it finally happened, it became a major success.

Deadpool 3 also provides a great send-off to all the 21st Century Fox-developed Marvel characters who never got a chance to take their last bows, or got their chance at all, like Channing Tatum’s Gambit. The Step Up star had been hired by Fox nearly a decade before his cameo in the superhero threequel but never even got a chance to make it into production, despite all the buzz surrounding him over the years.

Let’s talk about how amazing it is that a series, kicked off in such a weird way, has gone on to have such a wonderful legacy. It all started with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman doing their thing in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was panned by most and ranked amongst the worst of the X-Men movies. Then there was the leaked test footage of Deadpool, the origin of which remains unknown, not even to Kevin Feige. Now, ten years later, all three Deadpool movies have been hits with critics and audiences alike. The latest one is the top earner of the bunch, raking in over $1.3 billion worldwide amid its theatrical run in 2024.

Prior to its release, Deadpool & Wolverine was one of the most hottly anticipated upcoming Marvel movies destined for theaters. Now, a year out from its release, it remains one of the better Marvel Cinematic Universe entries amid the Multiverse Saga. Also, based on Ryan Reynolds' behind-the-scenes pic, it seems the fun wasn’t just on the screen, but was on set as well.

All three Deadpool movies are now streaming on Disney+, and the newest MCU flick, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is now playing and is one of the biggest titles on the 2025 movie schedule.

Being the media addict that I am, I have seen every episode of Two Guys And A Girl (nee Two Guys, A Girl, And A Pizza Place), and that means that I know Nathan Fillion and Ryan Reynolds go way back. While the latter was a star on the ABC sitcom from the start in 1998, the former joined in Season 2 and eventually became a major character. Despite knowing that history, however, I wasn't aware of two other more recent bits of trivia: Fillion has a cameo in Deadpool that didn't make the final cut, and he was lined up for a part in Deadpool 2 before voicing Headpool in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Fillion has a number of comic book movies appearances on his resume, including all three chapters of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy (admittedly his role in Vol. 2 is very hard to spot) and the newly released Superman, in which he plays Guy Gardner a.k.a. Green Lantern. While recently talking with Entertainment Weekly, however, the actor made note of his deleted scene in Deadpool:

While Nathan Fillion was apparently too busy with his commitment to his long-running network series to take a bigger part in Deadpool, there is a deleted scene where he can very briefly be seen as a towel guy in the sequence set in the strip club that employs Morena Baccarin's Vanessa.

As for Deadpool 2, Nathan Fillion didn't mention specifically what role Ryan Reynolds reached out to him about, but he is appreciative of his former co-star staying in touch and wanting to work together. Eventually they finally got to reteam in the making of Deadpool & Wolverine, which the Rookie star voicing the floating zombie head known as Headpool... but even that role wasn't the initial idea:

It's a cameo that fits right alongside a number of other special appearances in the sequence where Deadpool and Wolverine face off against a collection of Deadpool variants. In addition to Nathan Fillion as Headpool, the collective also includes Blake Lively as Ladypool and Matthew McConaughey as Cowboypool.

It seems that, with each generation, people continue to be obsessed with preserving their youth. However, I cannot say that I submit to that mentality because I have watched my fair share of movies and TV shows that deal with eternal life, and it really does not sound like all it's cracked up to be.

That being said, the mere idea of having a life without end and being able to experience multiple eras in history firsthand has always fascinated me, which is why I do tend to enjoy these kinds of stories. We could spend an eternity discussing all the best tales of immortality from the big and small screen, but here are some of the essentials.

Death Becomes Her (1992)

In Robert Zemeckis' darkly comic, classic '90s movie Death Becomes Her, actor Madeline Ashton (Meryl Streep) discovers that the secret to her longtime rival, author Helen Sharp's (Goldie Hawn), sudden success and "glow-up" is a potion that grants eternal youth. However, it also makes maintaining that youthful glow more challenging, especially after Madeline and Helen suffer insane accidents, which Sabrina Carpenter and Jenna Ortega parodied in the "Taste" music video.

Peter Pan (1953)

I remember looking forward to the freedoms of adulthood when I was younger, but now that I am a grown-up, I think Peter Pan and his Lost Boys had the right idea about staying in Neverland, where they could stay children forever. Steven Spielberg would even use J.M. Barrie's classic fantasy tale as the catalyst of a story exploring the loss of one's inner child in 1991's Hook, which stars Robin Williams as a grown-up Peter Pan.

Deadpool (2016)

Many of the funniest and most gruesome moments from star Ryan Reynolds' adaptation of Marvel's Deadpool comics revolve around the eponymous anti-hero's incredible healing abilities, which also prevent him from aging. Quick-witted mercenary Wade Wilson gained this blessing, or curse, after participating in an experimental program to cure his cancer, which also left him with a grotesque skin condition, inspiring him to wear a costume covering him head to toe.

Doctor Who (1963-Present)

A sci-fi TV show that has managed to get away with featuring the same character in the lead for its entire decades-long run is the British cult favorite phenomenon, Doctor Who. The title character is the last of an alien race known as the Time Lords, meaning he can continue to live on infinitely by regenerating and changing his appearance, which explains why he is played by a different actor every few seasons or so.

The Picture Of Dorian Gray (1945)

One of the most influential stories involving immortality is The Picture of Dorian Gray, in which the title character suddenly ceases to age while his likeness in a recent portrait begins to grow more decrepit over time. One of the most widely praised adaptations of the 1890 novel from Oscar Wilde stars Hurd Hatfield in the title role.

Mr. Nobody (2009)

Writer and director Jaco Van Dormael’s Mr. Nobody is unlike any other film regarding the concept of eternal youth, because the main character is the only one who is not immortal, thanks to a cutting-edge surgical process. Academy Award winner Jared Leto stars in the moving, surreal sci-fi drama as the last mortal man in a utopian future, where he recounts the life (or lives) he has experienced up to this point to a confused journalist.

Interview With The Vampire (1994)

We cannot talk about eternal youth without talking about vampires, and there are few tales of the like that incorporate the theme of immortality as potently as Interview with the Vampire. Director Neil Jordan's adaptation of Anne Rice's novel stars Brad Pitt as Louis, who tells a 20th-century journalist (played by Christian Slater) the story of his life as an ageless creature of the night, dating back to the late 1700s when he is bitten by Lestat (Tom Cruise).

Hancock (2008)

In Hancock, a superhero movie not inspired by a comic book, Will Smith plays the titular boozy, homeless man, who has been mysteriously blessed with extraordinary abilities, including indestructibility and agelessness. However, he comes close to losing those gifts due to a shocking secret about his forgotten past.

Highlander (1986)

It is said in Russell Mulcahy's original cult favorite that there can only be one Highlander. However, the action-packed fantasy thriller, starring Christopher Lambert as a more-than-400-year-old Scottish warrior facing the battle of his life in modern New York City, spawned several sequels and a TV series.

True Blood (2008-2014)

One of the most popular vampire TV shows of all time is HBO's True Blood. Based on a series of novels by Charlaine Harris, the drama takes place in a world where humans and fanged creatures of the night are able to co-exist, thanks to the eponymous, synthetic substitute for blood.

Eternals (2021)

Created by legendary comic book writer and artist Jack Kirby, the Eternals are a group of superheroes given the gift of immortality, among other distinct abilities, by their creators, the Celestials. The Marvel Comic would inspire an MCU film from Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao and starring the likes of Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, and more.

The Sandman (2022-2025)

The Sandman is Netflix's long-awaited series adaptation of Neil Gaiman's widely acclaimed fantasy comic book series of the same name, published under DC's Vertigo imprint in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Tom Sturridge's title character, also known as Dream and plenty of other aliases for his purpose of manipulating the human subconscious, is one of several beings known as the Endless, who each personify a different abstract concept, such as Death and Desire.

Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)

You can always count on a filmmaker like Jim Jarmusch to come through with a stunningly unique take on the horror genre, such as with his acclaimed vampire movie, Only Lovers Left Alive. The dramedy follows the reunion between a rock star (played by Tom Hiddleston) and his lover (played by Tilda Swinton), who have been in an on-and-off relationship for a very long time.

Torchwood (2006-2011)

The Doctor may be the last of the Time Lords, but he is not the only character from the Doctor Who universe who cannot die. The hit spinoff, Torchwood, following the adventures of a secret organization defending Earth from supernatural threats, stars John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, who was turned immortal when he was revived by the power of the Time Vortex after he was killed by a Dalek.

In Time (2011)

Widely regarded as a movie with a brilliant concept but a lackluster execution is the Justin Timberlake-led sci-fi thriller In Time, set in a futuristic society in which people stop aging at the age of 25. However, they can only live perpetually if they have enough time, which is also treated as currency. In other words, the wealthy are truly immortal, while the poor literally struggle to survive until the next day.

What We Do In The Shadows (2014)

One of the funniest films about vampirism is the horror-comedy movie favorite, What We Do in the Shadows, which later inspired a hit FX series of the same name. The faux documentary follows what goes on in the lives of a group of centuries-old bloodsuckers (played by Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, and Johnny Brugh) sharing a house in New Zealand.

Spring (2015)

Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead's romantic horror movie Spring is a beautiful, Lovecraftian take on a Richard Linklater-style drama like Before Sunrise. It follows an American man (played by Lou Taylor Pucci) visiting Italy when he falls for a woman (played by Nadia Hilker), who is not only cursed with agelessness, but hides another transformative secret.

The Fountain (2006)

From Darren Aronofsky, The Fountain is a trippy thriller starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz that is told in a nonlinear, anthology-style structure and takes place over the course of 1000 years. One segment, set in the 1500s, follows a quest for the Fountain of Youth, another centers on a modern-day surgeon and his terminally ill wife, and the last follows a man passionately tending to a tree while traveling through space in the deep future. The question the film leaves you with is whether or not Jackman's roles are all the same person.

The Age Of Adaline (2015)

One film that effectively illustrates the challenging consequences of eternal youth is The Age of Adaline. Blake Lively stars in the title role of a mid-20th-century woman who suffers a freak accident that suddenly causes her to stop aging, forcing her to go on the run and live anonymously for decades.

Forever (2014-2015)

The short-lived crime procedural Forever stars Ioan Gruffudd as a man working as a medical examiner in New York City. However, the most perplexing mystery he struggles to solve is why he has not aged in more than two centuries.

The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus (2009)

Known for being the final film starring Academy Award winner Heath Ledger, director Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus stars Christopher Plummer in the title role, who was gifted eternal life by the Devil (Tom Waits) in exchange for the soul of his daughter, Valentina (Lily Cole), once she reaches her sixteenth birthday.

Altered Carbon (2018-2020)

While most stories about eternal life are considered fantasy, the concept is not entirely implausible. For instance, the Netflix series Altered Carbon imagines a dystopian future in which immortality is achieved by digitally preserving human consciousness and uploading it into a new body.

The Man From Earth (2007)

Writer Jerome Bixby was the legendary mastermind behind some of the best episodes of The Twilight Zone, and his final produced work before his death, The Man from Earth, does feel like something that would have been right up Rod Serling's alley. The film stars David Lee Smith as a professor who, during his impromptu retirement party, reveals to his colleagues the shocking revelation that he has inexplicably existed for thousands of years.

He Never Died (2015)

Without giving too much away, He Never Died is a bizarre thriller starring Henry Rollins as a man calling himself Jack, who has been on Earth longer than even he has been able to keep track of.

Cronos (1993)

The feature film debut of writer and director Guillermo del Toro, Cronos, is a chilling thriller about an ancient, highly coveted device shaped like a scarab that can grant people the gift of immortality.

Tuck Everlasting (2002)

Based on the 1975 novel of the same name by Natalie Babbitt, Tuck Everlasting stars Alexis Bledel as a 19th-century teen who falls in love with a "young" man (played by Jonathan Jackson) whose family has accidentally discovered the Fountain of Youth.

Blade Of The Immortal (2017)

Director Takashi Miike, the mastermind behind some of the shocking Japanese horror movies of all time, brings his signature style to this live-action adaptation of the graphic novel, Blade of the Immortal. The film stars Takuya Kimura as a samurai cursed with eternal life, who is enlisted by a young girl to help avenge her father's death.

The Last Witch Hunter (2015)

Vin Diesel's Dungeons & Dragons character served as the inspiration for his role in The Last Witch Hunter, in which he plays a man whose immortality has allowed him the time to become the most skilled asset in war against witchcraft.

Zardoz (1974)

Writer and director John Boorman's Zardoz is better remembered for the ridiculous futuristic outfit that Sean Connery wears than the plot of the bizarre sci-fi adventure. The story is set in the 23rd Century, in which Connery's deadly warrior, known as Zed, comes across a community where death has been rendered obsolete.

New Amsterdam (2008)

Not to be confused with a hit NBC medical drama that happens to bear the same name, New Amsterdam is a short-lived Fox crime drama starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as a New York detective granted eternal youth by a Native American woman he saved 400 years earlier.

The Old Guard (2020)

Based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, the Netflix original film The Old Guard stars Charlize Theron as the leader of a group of ageless mercenaries. It would spawn a sequel that deepens its lore, which was released in 2025.

Immortality (1998)

Also released as The Wisdom of Crocodiles to reflect the novel that inspired it, the aptly named Immortality stars Jude Law as a vampire preying on women in hopes of finding the one who redeems him.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for constantly producing new content, both in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox and its properties it finally opened the door for Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool to join the fun... but it took years before Deadpool & Wolverine hit theaters (and broke records). And the character's creator Rob Liefeld recently offered a Kevin Feige-related explanation for why fans were left waiting for so long.

Prior to its release, Deadpool & Wolverine was one of the most hotly anticipated upcoming Marvel movies hitting theaters. So it might be surprising that it took the studio so long to actually green light the threequel. During an appearance on the Millar Time podcast, Liefeld made some allegations about why Marvel dragged its feet in this regard. In his words:

Well, that's definitely one explanation for how things went down with Deadpool. While we should treat this as a rumor for the time being (especially since Liefeld doesn't like Feige), but it could offer some context into what was reportedly happening in the studio. Because it was strange how many years it took before Deadpool & Wolverine finally started production.

Liefeld's story might be conjecture, but he does offer some solid points. After all, there have been a number of MCU movies that have failed in the years since Avengers: Endgame hit theaters and became the highest grossing movie of all time. For example, The Marvels was a box office flop, while other titles like Ant-Man 3 struggled as well.

In addition to titles that struggled at the box office, other titles like Eternals and Thor: Love and Thunder failed to resonate with audiences. The pressure was likely on at the studio, and Deadpool & Wolverine's success came at the perfect time. So that part of Liefeld's allegations about Kevin Feige seems logical.

Given how much audiences turned out to see Deadpool 3, I have to assume that we'll be seeing Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in their roles sometime in the future. While they weren't listed in Avengers: Doomsday's cast announcement, fans are definitely hoping to see them finally join the Avengers franchise.

Back in my day, we used to watch R-rated movies all the time. In fact, when I was only 8 years old, my dad took me to see Terminator 2: Judgment Day in the theater, and it still, to this day, has my favorite introduction to any movie ever.

Well, being the idiot that I am, I showed my son and daughter, who are 8 and 9, respectively, this intro, and I stupidly said, “You know, Grandpa took me to see this when I was only 8, and it’s rated R,” to which my children obviously asked, “Can we watch rated-R movies then?”

I walked right into that one, didn't I? I told them no, of course, since I felt bad for even taking my then-six-year-old son to a PG-13 movie like Godzilla Minus One. But my children asked me why I could watch a rated-R movie at their age, and they couldn’t, which really got me thinking: Should I let them watch R-rated movies? Well…

I Guess It All Depends On The Movie, Right?

Terminator 2 is rated R, sure, but I don't know if I would consider it a heavy R. What I mean is the rating is mostly because of the violence, as well as the profanity, as the movie has around 52 f-bombs in it.

Yes, that's a lot, and the first time I saw the movie, I was shocked! I distinctly remember turning to my dad, who gave me an apologetic expression, and I exclaimed, “They can say that?”

How naive I was, as the word was uttered several more instances after that first time. But, here's the thing: after that initial f-bomb, it didn't have the same impact for me anymore. In fact, I kind of didn't even notice it after awhile. So when it comes to my own children, would it really be so bad if they heard a few f-bombs in a movie? I mean, kids at their school say the f-word all the time, and I only know this since I've heard other kids saying it when I've picked my own children up.

So, really, if I let my kids watch an R-rated flick, it all depends on the movie. For instance, my son has asked if he can watch Deadpool, and I said absolutely not. Besides the profanity, there's also a lot of sexual innuendo in that movie, and the violence is a bit too extreme.

My daughter asked if she could watch The Evil Dead, since it's in one of my favorite horror franchises, which, in my enthusiasm, I've told her about several times. But besides the gore, that movie also has that scene (and you know what scene I’m talking about). So even though I saw an R-rated film when I was only 8, I'm not sure if my own kids are “ready” yet. But that brings me to my next question.

What Age Is Appropriate?

I’ve settled on 13. Is that the best age to let kids watch rated-R movies? Honestly, I have no idea, but I figure that if I tell my kids a certain age that’s not too far away, then they’ll be more amenable to accepting that rather than me just saying, “Wait until you’re 17.”

Because, honestly, I trust my children, and I don’t think watching a rated-R movie is going to warp them or turn them into deviants. For example, I’ve been a diehard Mortal Kombat fan ever since the first game debuted back in 1992. In fact, everybody I knew back then was a big fan of Mortal Kombat, and we turned out just fine.

Also, I swear I watched every Friday the 13th movie, unedited, by the time I was 13. My mom worked nights, so I used to wait up until my older sister fell asleep, and then sneak downstairs to watch them (in fact, I watched a lot of movies my sister told me not to watch).

In that way, 13 feels like a good age to me. That's because I’m the kind of father who has been answering any questions my children have from as early as they could talk; my rationale being that if they’re old enough to wonder, then they’re old enough to know the truth. So, when they asked me where babies came from, I took them to the library and showed them an age-appropriate book. I didn’t say, “The stork,” or anything that I would have to walk back later.

I respect their intelligence, and when my daughter started watching The Simpsons, I was a little apprehensive at first since there are sexual jokes. But at the same time, I know these jokes are coming since I’ve seen every episode multiple times, and I’m prepared to explain any bawdy humor that comes up whenever my daughter asks, “What do they mean?” Which brings me to my next point.

Whatever They End Up Seeing, I'll Of Course Watch The Movie First

When my dad took me to see Terminator 2, we went into it blind. He told me that he had asked a coworker of his if it was “appropriate” for his 8-year-old son, and his coworker said that it was. But what’s appropriate for one parent may not be appropriate for another.

For example, I don’t curse in front of my children, but I know there are plenty of parents who do. So for them, Deadpool’s dialogue may not be an issue. For me, it is, at least when it comes to my kids. As another example, a lot of the kids in my son’s class have already watched Squid Game (my son’s friend asked him if he wanted to play “Russian Roulette,” to which my son, thankfully, didn’t know what he was talking about).

So whatever R-rated movie I let my children eventually watch when they turn 13, I’ll of course have to watch it first. In other words, unlike my dad, I won’t just take another person’s word for what is appropriate for my kids.

I feel this is my job as a parent anyway. I’m not throwing any shade, but my kids don’t even have cell phones. I know, how is that even possible, right? When even kindergarten kids have smartphones these days, I feel like the odd parent out since I won’t let my children have them. But even with parental settings on, there are just too many outside factors that I can’t control that I don’t feel comfortable with.

This brings me to my last point…

Lastly, I Know My Kids Will Likely Find A Way To Watch Something That They Want To See Anyway, So I Want To Be There When They Do

Being a parent is knowing that your children aren’t going to do what you want them to do, probably 99% of the time. For example, my mom didn’t want me watching Friday the 13th, or the Halloween movies (which I’ve also watched all the way through), but I watched them anyway. It’s mostly because my mother and I never had that conversation of what I should or shouldn’t watch. It was just implied.

However, it doesn’t matter the generation. If a kid wants to see something badly enough, they’ll find a way to see it, and my kids are no exception. Like, my son had to be the one who narc'd on his sister when he told me that she watched an episode of Hazbin Hotel on my account. I have since pulled Prime Video from my television and now only watch it on my phone.

That said, for my son to even narc on his sister in the first place just tells me that 1, she must have done something that pissed him off, so he wanted to get her in trouble; and 2, even he realized that she shouldn’t have been watching a show like that.

So, when it comes to an R-rated movie, I want to be there when they watch one all the way through. Firstly, I want it to be something that they want to watch so it shows that I trust their maturity level. And secondly, I want it to be there to explain things, if need be. For example, when I used to sneak downstairs and watch Jason kill horny teenagers, a part of me thought sex was bad and that the camp counselors DESERVED to die since they shouldn’t have been having sex in the first place.

But I don’t want my kids to grow up thinking sex is “bad,” or that violence is “good,” which I grew up believing since I watched these films alone at such a young age. I want them to know the risks of sex and the consequences of violence, and I feel I can do that if we watch these films together.

John Candy’s best movies may have us laughing up a storm, but the Ryan Reynolds-produced documentary about the actor is surely going to make us emotional. Directed by Colin Hanks, titled I Like Me, the upcoming documentary will allow audiences to get to know John Candy as an actor and the personal battles he was dealing with when the cameras were off. Now, Reynolds is talking about having “an emotional day” as he shared a big update about the new documentary that would leave even Deadpool a little misty-eyed.

Considering what a comedy legend John Candy was, it’s only natural that fans like Ryan Reynolds and Colin Hanks team up to create a heartfelt tribute to the Planes, Trains and Automobiles star. The Adam Project actor said it was important for him to produce this documentary as a chance to get to know the “beautiful storyteller” through the accounts of creators who knew Candy.

Now, The Proposal actor has revealed that he had “an emotional day” on Instagram as he heard big news about I Like Me, and I think even Deadpool himself would be misty-eyed over this:

The special opening night slot is reserved for highly anticipated films with wide appeal and awards potential. That must mean TIFF sees huge promise in the John Candy documentary. What a perfect way to prioritize the beloved late actor’s story in a way that I’m sure the Toronto native would be proud of. As movies like The Boy and the Heron have achieved accolades after first premiering in this slot, I’m already sensing some awards potential for I Like Me.

There’s no doubt in my mind that if Deadpool was Ryan Reynolds’ Instagram follower, he’d be shedding some tears behind his mask. Under all of that sarcasm and over-the-top violence, we all know the Marvel antihero has a big heart.

To further prove that point, there is a John Candy tribute prop worked in the Deadpool movies. If you look closely, the popular Marvel character is reading The Canadian Mounted, which is an homage to the book Candy’s character reads in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

Before even watching it, I already have a feeling that I Like Me will be an unforgettable documentary. With never-before-seen videos and personal stories from loved ones who knew John Candy, one of the doc’s producers, Glen Zipper, said the new movie plans to honor the Uncle Buck actor’s legacy. He said that director Colin Hanks would like audiences to walk out of his project the same way you would seeing Candy’s touching, lighthearted movies. Considering TIFF has enough faith in the Amazon MGM movie to have it be first in its lineup, I already expect audiences will be in for a real treat.

Just when I thought it was already good news that Ryan Reynolds and Colin Hanks were making a John Candy documentary, now I’m psyched to know it’ll be the opening film at TIFF’s 50th Edition. Deadpool may not be one to admit if he’ll be shedding tears watching this documentary, but I know I will.

Meanwhile, eventually, fans at home will have the chance to see I Like Me via an Amazon Prime subscription this fall.

Is Deadpool 4 happening? Considering how Deadpool & Wolverine earned a lot of positive critical reception and grossed over $1.3 billion last year, one would think Marvel Studios would greenlight another movie in an instant. However, it appears that the Merc with the Mouth could go in a different direction next, as it’s been rumored that Ryan Reynolds is “exploring ideas” for an upcoming Marvel movie that would team his character with some of the X-Men. This sounds an awful lot like an X-Force movie, and now there’s word about the new and fan-favorite characters that might appear alongside Wade Wilson.

Take this information with a grain of salt for now, but I hope this is accurate given such an impressive lineup. According to scooper @MyTimeToShineHello (via ComicBookMovie), Deadpool would get to re-team with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Josh Brolin’s Cable in this proposed project. Additionally, the quartet would be rounded out by the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Storm. Meaning, this would be a new version of the weather-manipulating mutant rather than either Halley Berry or Alexandra Shipp reprising the role.

While Storm doesn’t have any direct ties to X-Force in the comics, I definitely like the idea of including her in this hypothetical movie. While Ororo Munroe certainly didn’t lack for attention during the Fox era of X-Men movies, I didn’t think Berry or Shipp’s depictions did her full justice. Hopefully this won’t be the case with the MCU version, and not only am I already amused at her envisioning her getting exhausted at Deadpool’s shenanigans, her inclusion in this X-Force-like story could help set up the long-awaited X-Men reboot movie.

And then, of course, we already have experience watching Deadpool annoy the hell out of Cable and Wolverine in a cinematic setting, so any chance to see more of this is welcome. These two have both served on X-Force, just like Deadpool, so if this movie is indeed taking inspiration from that gritty team of superheroes, having three of the four characters be canon members is a pretty good ratio. Wolverine and Cable have also butted heads on occasion in the comics and other media, so I’d welcome seeing Hugh Jackman and Josh Brolin’s versions do that too.

Whether or not this project ever comes to fruition is another matter. Even if it does get the go-ahead from Marvel Studios, Ryan Reynolds is currently writing the Paramount comedy movie Boy Band, which will reunite him with Jackman and Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, and even once that’s done, he intends to spend the rest of 2025 writing other projects. So it could be years until it ends up projecting on the big screen.

The good news, however, is that more X-Men appearances in the MCU have been lined up in the meantime. Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique, Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, James Marsden’s Cyclops and Channing Tatum’s Gambit are all set to return in Avengers: Doomsday, which will now be released on December 18, 2026.

There was only one Marvel Cinematic Universe movie released in 2024, but man, was it a doozy. Deadpool & Wolverine finally delivered the long-awaited team-up between Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman’s Logan, and the end result was met with positive reviews and made over $1.3 billion worldwide. Although Reynolds has since gone on to say he’s not interested in doing another standalone Deadpool movie, now there’s word that he’s looking to pair the Merc with the Mouth with the X-Men for an upcoming Marvel movie. Yes please! 

Per THR, Reynolds is “exploring ideas” for a Deadpool that would feature three or four X-Men characters, and is working on “various treatments.” It’s also mentioned that Deadpool may only be a supporting character in such a project, as Reynolds reportedly believes “that keeping his f-bomb wielding anti-hero more on the sidelines could allow for the X-Men characters to be used in unexpected ways.” It was also clarified that this team-up would be separate from the X-Men reboot that Michael Lesslie is writing.

Assuming this Deadpool/X-Men team-up does move past the conception stage, don’t expect it to arrive for a while. Ryan Reynolds is currently writing the comedy movie Boy Band for Paramount Pictures. That will pair him back up with Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, and Hugh Jackman is also reportedly “keen to co-star.” It’s unclear if Boy Band is the same movie that Reynolds talked about last November that would reunite him with Levy and Jackman, or something different. Even after the Boy Band script is finished though, the Deadpool actor has said he’s spending the rest of 2025 focused on writing other projects.

I’m ok with a long wait time, though. Deadpool has been tied to the X-Men corner of the Marvel mythology, and over the course of three movies, we’ve seen him form bonds with mutant characters like Colossus, Domino, Cable and, of course, Wolverine. But rather than just making Deadpool 4, I like the idea of getting a proper X-Men team-up on the books. It was great to see see Wade fight alongside Wolverine, X-23 and Gambit (as well as Blade and Elektra) in Deadpool & Wolverine, so let’s bring in more members of the X-Men for him to annoy.

I’d also be curious to see if this Deadpool/X-Men team-up would set up the aforementioned X-Men reboot or follow it. The MCU hasn’t had any trouble bringing people back from the Fox era of X-Men movies, with Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer’s Beast and James Marsden’s Cyclops are all returning for Avengers: Doomsday, as will Channing Tatum’s Gambit. However, there still has yet to be a new X-Men team set up in the main MCU reality.

Honestly, maybe it would be worth using whatever story Ryan Reynolds picks, assuming this team-up goes forward at all, as a way to finally set up the new X-Men that we’ve been promised for years. That sounds like it could be a definite possibility if Deadpool would be more of a supporting character. Regardless, I welcome any opportunity for Reynolds to put the red and black costume back on, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more updates on this potential project.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is constantly releasing new content, both in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order will recall Deadpool & Wolverine's record-breaking success, although the project has been roped into Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively's legal battle. And the studio's reason for not wanting to give over documents related to the movie is pretty surprising.

Blake Lively's lawsuit against Wayfarer studios began a long legal battle between herself and Justin Baldoni, who directed and starred in It Ends With Us. Baldoni filed a defamation suit, which named both Lively and Ryan Reynolds and also involved the portrayal of Nicepool in Deadpool 3. The Wrap acquired court documents involving Marvel, where a rep from law firm Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp explained why the studio fighting Baldoni's request to hand over documents related to Nicepool's inception and journey to theaters. The quote reads:

Well, that's interesting. While Nicepool felt like a one-off character, it sounds like there's a possibility of the variant returning in upcoming Marvel movies. At least, that's a reason why the studio wants to guard its secrets and documents related to the character's development.

Marvel security is notoriously tight, so perhaps it shouldn't be surprising that the studio is fighting back against Baldoni's request for Nicepool documents. And if Marvel were to hand over the documents requested from the actor/director's subpoena, it has the potential to set a legal precedent for the studio that could affect future projects and/or legal shakeups.

Of course, the insinuation that Nicepool might return to the MCU is going to get fans excited, albeit confused. Deadpool 3's biggest fight scene saw Nicepool get brutally killed by his fellow Deadpool Corps, with Ryan Reynolds' main character using the variant as a human shield. It seemed like that version of Wade Wilson was gone forever, but with the Marvel multiverse at play, just about anything is possible.

In the midst of the legal battle against Blake Lively over It Ends With Us (streaming now with a Netflix subscription), eventually the focus shifted over to Deadpool & Wolverine. Baldoni alleges that Nicepool was a character made to mock him, including the the variant's appearance and dialogue. We'll just have to see if Marvel ends up having to pass along the documents related to its creation.

The Deadpool franchise is streaming in its entirety on Disney+, and the next MCU movie hitting theaters is Thunderbolts* on May 2nd as part of the 2025 movie release list. We'll just have to see when Wade Wilson (in any form) returns to the shared universe.

Despite how many years have passed, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is showing no signs of slowing its pace releases in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. One of the most highly anticipated upcoming Marvel movies is Avengers: Doomsday, and fans are curious about which characters might pop up during its runtime. Some are hoping to see Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, and the actor/filmmaker recently addressed crossovers and explained why the character should never actually be one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday is pretty slim, but Marvel's live-stream revealed some of the actors who will appear. Reynolds was not included, but that hasn't stopped moviegoers from hoping he has a role. In a video on Time's Instagram, he was asked if Deadpool could play a supporting role in crossover projects. He responded:

By definition Deadpool is a bit of an underdog. The fourth wall-breaking antihero is a bit of a mess, and is constantly being mangled while fighting in whatever adventures he's in. Ryan Reynolds specifically crafted three narratives for his trilogy, and it should be fascinating to see how Wade Wilson's story will be moved forward if/when he pops up in an Avengers flick.

Aside from moments like the X-Men cameo in Deadpool 2 and all the multiversal madness in The Void for Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds' trilogy of movies have been pretty contained stories. Fans are eager to see him finally get to join an Avengers flick, which seemed like an impossibility until Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

While speaking about the idea of crossovers, Ryan Reynolds went on to share why it's important that his signature character never actually joins one of the MCU's big teams. In his words:

That makes a ton of sense. There's seemingly nowhere to go if Deadpool actually becomes an Avenger. Whether or not this prevents him from actually joining Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars remains to be seen, but if a crossover happens he likely won't actually become a member of any of the big teams.

It's currently unknown when Ryan Reynolds will return to the role of Wade Wilson. He made it clear that Deadpool 4 isn't happening anytime soon, so if he's not in the next Avengers movies we might be in for a wait.

Ryan Reynolds has moved to be dismissed from Justin Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios' defamation lawsuit. However, the director’s lawyers fired back at the motion, explaining that they think Blake Lively’s husband is a ‘co-conspirator’ in this situation. Now, as this legal battle over It Ends With Us continues, the Deadpool star’s rep has responded to this claim, and they didn’t hold back.

Justin Baldoni’s Lawyer Called Ryan Reynolds Blake Lively’s ‘Co-Conspirator’ In Statement About The Deadpool Actor’s Motion To Dismiss

Baldoni’s lawyers filed a response to Reynolds' motion to dismiss on April 1. In it, they detailed why the actor should not be dismissed from the lawsuit, noting that they think he has not “merely acted as a supportive spouse” in the matter. They also called him a “co-conspirator” in this situation, explaining (via People):

In the same filing, the actor’s lawyers explained that Reynolds getting a dismissal is an “extremely unlikely event.” However, if that were to happen, they noted that he should not be allowed to recover attorney fees.

Of course, The Adam Project actor has been part of the ongoing discourse about It Ends With Us, and Baldoni’s claims have included Reynolds in them. To that point, after Blake Lively’s first complaint was filed at the end of last year, the Jane the Virgin actor's team responded with multiple lawsuits, including one against her and her husband.

On top of that, there’s an ongoing discussion about if Deadpool & Wolverine made fun of the director with Nicepool. For months now, there’s been talk about Nicepool as well as the involvement Reynolds had in the making of It Ends With Us. Plus, at one point, a defamation lawyer said it was “not strange” that the Marvel actor was included in this lawsuit.

However, he is moving to be dismissed from it, and after Baldoni’s team responded, Reynolds’ rep fired right back.

Then, Ryan Reynolds’ Rep Responded

After Justin Baldoni’s team filed that response, a rep for Ryan Reynolds replied. They explained that the opposing party made a defamation claim “without alleging who was defamed.” They continued to praise their client and his relationship with Blake Lively, stating:

The Deadpool & Wolverine star’s spokesperson also claimed that Baldoni’s lawsuit “fails,” and it could result in Wayfarer having to cover Reynolds’ attorney fees.

Along with Ryan Reynolds' motion to dismiss, Lively also filed to dismiss. In response to that, Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, called her action “one of the most abhorrent examples of abusing our legal system."

Meanwhile, the Gossip Girl star’s team responded by saying that her co-star’s team hasn’t moved to dismiss their cases, which implies that they have “accepted that Ms. Lively’s complaint states valid legal claims that they could not muster a single reason to dismiss.” It also notes that multiple parties who have been sued by Baldoni and Wayfarer have moved to dismiss.

Overall, this back-and-forth adds another layer to this already complex legal battle. So, as we learn more about this motion to dismiss as well as the other elements of Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively’s legal efforts, we’ll keep you updated.

I don’t know if you knew this, but Ryan Reynolds actually does have a project on the 2025 movie schedule. The long promised “R-rated road trip adventure” Animal Friends is apparently set to open in the fall, with Reynolds more than likely playing one of those titular companions.

But today, we’re going to talk about another collaboration between the Deadpool & Wolverine star and Peggy, the canine known as DogPool from that very fmovie. Apparently their last pairing was so enjoyable that Reynolds, under his Maximum Effort ad banner, has drafted his four-legged friend to help sell the brand Ugly Wines.

It may seem like an easy joke, and you'll surely get some laughs out of this "Extreme" wine ad. At the same time, I dare you to watch this canine performance, shared on Peggy the Hairless Pug’s very real Instagram profile, and not find it absolutely adorable:

Besides the obvious concern of how wine is poisonous to dogs, seeing Ms. DogPool going to town liking Ugly Wine’s cartons is rather endearing. Yes, the true focus of this commercial should be that these boxes claim to contain “33% more wine than a standard bottle,” and that’s a pretty thrifty finding.

However, with her adorable face and permanently blep’d tongue on display, Peggy the Hairless Pug does steal the show. While I’m not sure I’d go as far as entering the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s “Peggy v. Brisket” debate, it’s still beautiful to see an animal that’s not conventionally attractive getting work.

Though now that I’ve said that, it kind of proves that Maximum Effort’s pitching prowess really does run the glamour gamut. Seeing as the last spot of theirs we highlighted was Channing Tatum’s Super Bowl ad for Stōk Cold Brew, there's clearly room in the Reynolds stable for beefcakes and "ugly" dogs, alongside venerated talent like Rick Moranis and Sir Anthony Hopkins.

While some were disappointed that Ryan Reynolds’ name wasn’t among those mentioned in Avengers: Doomsday’s massive 5.5 hour roll call, I would be equally sad if his hypothetical revelation for Secret Wars would come without a chair next to his saved for Peggy. This DogPool actor is a very good girl, and now that she’s branched out into shilling wine for Ugly Estates, I’d say her profile is going to grow.

I mean, not anybody does wine ads while still having a career. Who could forget these gems from legendary iconoclast/director Orson Welles?

Mr. Reynolds, if you and the folks at Gallo need an idea for your next Ugly Estates ad, have your people call mine. Until then we must turn our eyes back to the roster of upcoming Marvel movies, which sees May 2nd’s Thunderbolts* as our next stop on the tour. As for Animal Friends, that is currently on the books for an October 10th bow, but if anything changes we’ll let you know quicker than the shake of a hairless pug’s tail.

While there’s still a year to to go until the 10th anniversary of Deadpool’s release, today makes a different milestone for the R-rated Marvel movie. Exactly one decade ago, the Merc with the Mouth’s first solo feature began filming, and Ryan Reynolds, the man behind the red and black mask, posted an epic video to celebrate the milestone anniversary. And as an added bonus, Hugh Jackman, Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine co-lead, posted an A+ comment on said video.

Reynolds marked the big occasion by sharing a black-and-white video of the entirety of the Deadpool saga being sped through from end to beginning sans audio. Meaning, it starts off with the Deadpool & Wolverine end-credits scene and concludes with the Deadpool test footage that was leaked to the public in 2014. Take a look!

Although Ryan Reynolds has previously played Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, that that version of the character barely resembled his comic book self, especially once he was turned into Weapon XI. If that test footage hadn’t been leaked five years later, we might never have gotten a proper Deadpool movie. However, the overwhelmingly positive reception to it online with enough to convince 20th Century Fox to greenlight the project. And no, even Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige doesn’t know who was behind the leaking.

The rest, as they say, is history. All three Deadpool movies have been critically well received and commercially successful, with Deadpool & Wolverine bring the hight-grossing of the bunch by pulling in over $1.3 billions worldwide. The threequel and its two predecessors can be streamed with a Disney+ subscription, and I’m loving how Hugh Jackman fired back in the comments section of the Instagram post: at Ryan Reynolds for noted about how “a decade really zips by”:

This, of course, is a reference to the joke in Deadpool & Wolverine when Wade wisecracks about Disney’s going to force Jackman to keep playing Wolverine until he’s a nonagenarian. Originally Jackman was never going to put the adamantium claws on again after Logan, but he had a change of heart and agreed to revisit the role. However, rather than reprise the Wolverine he played for nearly two decades in the X-Men film series, he played a variant from elsewhere in the Marvel multiverse.

Whether you’re a hardcore superhero movie fan or just someone who likes good blockbuster entertainment, I think we can all agree that we’re better off with the Deadpool movies existing. It’s unclear at this point if Deadpool 4 will happen, but I’m hopeful that either there or in some other upcoming Marvel movie, we’ll see more of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman together in the MCU. We deserve another movie with their two characters paired together.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a well-oiled machine that's constantly offering fans new content in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. Despite being released months ago, folks are still dissecting Deadpool & Wolverine, which broke records at the box office. Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order loved all the crossovers and cameos, including Jon Favreau's brief appearance as Happy Hogan. I've been wondering about that sequence, and fans made some A+ points about the details of that brief but memorable moment.

Deadpool was chock full of cameos, and Happy Hogan was one of the first ones, appearing in a flashback when Wade Wilson was trying to become an Avenger. In Happy's office there's various props from the MCU's history, including a shot of the toy Iron Man helmet from Iron Man 2, which is in front of the famous photo of Tony and Tom Holland's Peter Parker. On top of breaking records, the fact that the music industry was also affected by the blockbuster's popularity shows just how much the public connected with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's movie.

As such, fans are eagerly anticipating news about when the pair of A-listers might once again reprise their signature roles in upcoming Marvel movies. The most popular theory is that they'll pop up in the next big crossover projects, Avengers: Doomsday and/or Secret Wars. I know I'm eager to see them return sooner rather than later.

The pressure is definitely on for The Russo Brothers to deliver with their next Avengers movies, especially given how the MCU has struggled post-Endgame. Marvel movies are no longer guaranteed to print money, and hitting it out of the park with Doomsday and Secret Wars could help revive excitement about the behemoth franhise.

It’s a pretty safe statement to say that people loved Deadpool & Wolverine. It ended 2024 as the highest-grossing live-action movie of the year, both domestically and worldwide, grossing well over $1 billion. Fans loved all the returning superhero characters from the various pre-MCU Marvel movies, but there was one character who was conspicuous by his absence, and Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld thinks the new movie made a big mistake leaving him out.

In addition to all the cameos and supporting characters who appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine, most of the cast of the two previous Deadpool films appeared, though in fairly small roles. However, Rob Liefeld thinks that one character from Deadpool 2 should have also been in the new film, as Josh Brolin’s Cable was nowhere to be found. In a response on Twitter to the recent news of Brolin possibly joining the DCU, Liefled posted…

While I think “all-time” might be a bit of an overstatement, Deadpool & Wolverine did just fine as it was, I have to agree with Liefeld that leaving Josh Brolin out was a significant misstep. Cable was an excellent addition to Deadpool 2 and beyond the fact that Deadpool makes a brief reference to screwing with time travel in the new film, events from second movie are barely addressed.

It’s not like bringing Cable back would have been out of place. Every other superhero you can shake a comic book at was in the movie, even some like Channing Tatum's Gambit whose movie never came to fruition.

It didn’t even need to be the same version of Cable that we saw in Deadpool 2, Brolin could have easily played some alternate version of the character that Deadpool and Wolverine came across while wandering the TVA wasteland, just like the other big cameos. It could have been a small role or a brief appearance if Brolin was too busy to do anything more significant.

It would be one thing if Marvel Studios decided that Deadpool was the only character from the X-Men universe who would be seen in the MCU. After all, we can be pretty sure that the official MCU X-Men, whenever they debut in upcoming Marvel movies, will be played by other actors. But of course, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was in the movie, and its title. And even Kelsey Grammar’s Beast made an appearance in The Marvels post-credits scene.

Maybe it was the fact that Brolin is already part of the MCU as Thanos. Of course Thanos is dead, and the fact that Brolin played both roles was already joked about in Deadpool 2 and could have been the source of even more fun in the new film.

Considering how long it took to make Deadpool & Wolverine happen and all the work that went into getting that cast together, leaving Josh Brolin out does feel like a significant lost opportunity.

Being a Disneyland fan means getting used to favorite attractions closing down. There is nothing at the park that is so beloved that it won’t ever be replaced, or at least see so many changes over the years that it becomes unrecognizable. That doesn’t mean we have to like it. I was lucky enough to catch Storytime with Deadpool when I visited the park last summer, and it was an absolute highlight of the trip. The Merc with a Mouth would come out and tell a heavily modified version of a classic fairy tale, one of the ones that's been adapted into a Disney film. And, at some point, Wolverine would show up and get snarky. It was a hilarious time.

Wade Wilson would employ his normal fourth-wall-breaking jokes, but they would be about Disneyland. He would crack jokes about the end of Splash Mountain and Wolverine would go off in a frustrated huff to get a drink at Pym's Tasting Lab.

A holiday-themed version of the show appeared throughout November and December, with new stories on offer. However, now that the holidays are over, rather than returning to the original version of the show, the show is apparently done.

It’s understandable, to some extent, why this was done. Deadpool & Wolverine has largely run its course as a film. It became one of the highest-grossing movies of 2024 and released on Blu-ray ahead of hitting Disney+. Save perhaps winning some awards, the life cycle of the film is complete.

Still, it’s not like the two Marvel characters are going to become less popular simply because their movie isn’t new. The show couldn’t have cost a great deal to put on. It possessed a simple set and only required two cast members for any given performance. Considering that live entertainment at Avengers Campus was cut back significantly in 2024 and that live offerings have been the best part of the superhero-themed era, the land needs this show.

Could Deadpool Return For Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary?

I’m certainly hoping that while Deadpool and Wolverine might be gone for now, their absence will be temporary. Disneyland’s 70th anniversary is coming up fast, with the official event kicking off in May, and it’s going to include some of the best live entertainment in recent years.

Nothing has specifically been announced for Avenges Campus in regard to the celebration. Additionally, construction will likely be in full swing, as two of the new attractions coming to Disneyland are slated for the land. Perhaps we could see the MCU heroes return as a way to draw guests into the land.

When I first visited Avengers Campus it was one of my favorite new places. I still love the land, and seeing the various heroes wandering around is always fun. However, without Deadpool and Wolverine, it’s just a little bit less fun.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a habit of regularly releasing new content, both in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. The latest movie to arrive in theaters is Deadpool & Wolverine, which broke records and was a critical success. Deadpool 3 had lots of cameos, and recent Marvel fan art has paired Ryan Reynolds' title character with Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. And now I really want to see that crossover on the big screen.

Given how wildly successful Deadpool & Wolverine was, moviegoers are expecting Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds' characters to factor heavily into upcoming Marvel movies. Fans have also been calling for Andrew Garfield's return as Peter Parker following his acclaimed performance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. I mean, how cool is that? With the multiverse in play, it seems like just about anything could happen nowadays in the MCU. And since both Andrew Garfield and Ryan Reynolds recently made their debuts in acclaimed projects, why not pair them together? Fingers crossed that something like this happens in a title like Avengers: Doomsday and/or Secret Wars.

Both Garfield and Tobey Maguire got to reprise their roles in No Way Home, and audiences really responded to seeing the three Spider-Man together on the big screen. Although as a result, there's been non-stop chatter among the fandom about them once again swinging onto the big screen for another adventure.

While Ryan Reynolds has made it clear he's not working on Deadpool 4 anytime soon, that doesn't mean that he won't be playing Deadpool again. While it would be a very different experience, perhaps he'd be down to reprise his role in the upcoming Avengers movies. Fingers crossed that this happens, and that we get answers about why Thor was crying for Wade.

When it comes to newer Marvel movies, I think we’re going to be talking about Chris Evans’ surprising Johnny Storm moment in Deadpool & Wolverine for some time. But when three VFX artists watched the movie together, they pointed out a cool connection between The Human Torch in the 2024 movie release and the original Fantastic Four flicks.

YouTube’s Corridor Crew often react to the VFX in popular movies, and they recently did so for Deadpool & Wolverine. While the three artists viewed the movie together, they noticed one element about Johnny Storm’s appearance. Here’s what Nico Pueringer said on the episode after posing to fellow artists about whether the movie was using the same effect from the original movie:

It’s been 20 years since Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm first said “Flame On!”, and admittedly a lot has changed in the world of VFX. However, these artists suggested that the artists on Deadpool & Wolverine actually decided to use the same effect, just perhaps in a slightly updated fashion, to pay homage to the character as he was in the previous Fantastic Four movies. Once Deadpool & Wolverine became a big box office hit over the summer, Chris Evans said it was a “dream come true” to come back to the role of Johnny Storm alongside Deadpool and Wolverine. The R-rated Deadpool & Wolverine continued the franchise’s tradition of dishing out extreme violence and raunchy jokes, despite the fact that it was officially canon with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jokes about cocaine, sex and more were present throughout Shawn Levy’s gleefully violent superhero romp. However, there was one wild joke that didn’t make the final cut, and it was just recently revealed. That barb involved Mickey Mouse and, following its reveal, a source has claims on how Disney CEO Bob Iger played into the decision to cut it.

What Exactly Was The Joke That Was Cut From Deadpool & Wolverine?

We’re currently heading into awards season and, with that, Walt Disney Pictures is currently looking to campaign on behalf of some of its biggest 2024 movie release schedule entries. D&W is included in that discussion and, because of it, the screenplay has officially been shared by the House of Mouse and Marvel Studios. Within the script, the aforementioned dirty joke comes into play after Wade Wilson learns of Magneto’s death. He then reacts with anger, blurting out the following sentiment:

I’m honestly not sure if I’ll ever get that mental picture out of my head. (And, let’s be honest, that’s probably what Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy were hoping for.) Seriously, that’s a wild statement even by this franchise’s standards, which is impressive, in some ways. Had that comment actually been featured in the flick, it could possibly be considered one of Deadpool’s best quotes. But, alas, it just wasn’t meant to be.

What Allegedly Happened When Bob Iger Heard The Joke?

Ryan Reynolds and co. explained earlier this year that they were given a lot of creative freedom. However, a source close to Reynolds recently spoke to TMZ and alleged that Bob Iger himself asked if this particular line of dialogue could. Despite that, the unnamed person further claimed that Iger didn’t demand that that be the case. They also said that the Free Guy star was fine with the request, given that it was just one line and that the family-friendly studio had been gracious when it came to other creative decisions made for the film.

Even though the Mickey Mouse joke wasn’t included in the finished film, it’s still impressive just how many gnarly gags the team behind D&W were able to stuff into the motion picture. Some may laugh at the thought of this, but there’s definitely an art to the dirty joke, as one needs to know what’s appropriate at a given time and how not to cross certain lines. You may not realize, but the team did avoid going in a few dark places for jokes, with CinemaBlend’s own Sean O’Connell truly realizing that during a recent rewatch.

I’d say that Bob Iger’s request didn’t hurt the film, of course, especially since Deadpool & Wolverine earned $1 billion worldwide at the box office and earned mostly positive reviews. One must also remember that the crass jokers are only part of the film’s appeal, as it’s the action and heart that also make it great. So, all in all, Iger, Ryan Reynolds and their colleagues have a lot to be proud of. Now, if I could only remove this mental picture of Mickey Mouse from my subconscious.

In the second Star Wars movie (in chronological order), when Padmé Amidala's (Natalie Portman) life is threatened, the Jedi Council chooses none other than trainee Anakin Skywalker to be her bodyguard. They should have known better, given his obvious emotional connection to her, which would eventually lead to a forbidden affair and marriage. Silver lining: the birth of Luke and Leia in the next movie.

Inglourious Basterds (Lt. Hicox Flashes The American Three)

One of the most intense moments from one of Quentin Tarantino's best movies, 2009's Inglourious Basterds, sees a disguised Lt. Archie Hicox (Michael Fassbender) accidentally reveal to Major Hellstrom (August Diehl) that he is not German by merely holding up the wrong fingers when asking the bar for three drinks. Perhaps this one is really on the British Army for not teaching him that the German Three is made up of the thumb, index, and middle finger but who could have known when that would come in handy?

Avengers: Age Of Ultron (Tony Stark Creates Ultron)

Wanting to create a "suit of armor for the entire world," Tony "Iron Man" Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) teams with Bruce "Hulk" Banner (Mark Ruffalo) to develop a powerful computer program that could do their work for them. Little did he know that this creation would become the eponymous villain of 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron (voiced by James Spader), providing another cautionary lesson against relying on AI.

Scream (Sydney Runs Upstairs Away From Ghostface)

Minutes after condemning the slasher movie trope of women running upstairs from the killer instead of out the front door, Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) does the same exact thing after Ghostface first attacks her. The star of the Scream movies is still one of our favorite horror final girls but it almost makes you wonder how she manages to survive as long as she would with a blemish like that on her track record.

Prometheus (Meredith Vickers Runs From A Rolling Spacecraft In A Straight Line)

Ridley Scott's 2012 Alien prequel, Prometheus, is one of the most divisive sci-fi movies ever made but even its strongest supporters cannot argue against one character's uproarious miscalculation. Why Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) does not choose to easily run out of the way of the alien spaceship rolling toward her and, instead, keep running straight until it crushes her is a mystery that may remain unsolved.

Guardians Of The Galaxy (Drax Summons Ronan)

In 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, a few drinks make Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) confident enough to fight Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) himself, so he sends the tyrant to his current location. As a result, he gets his butt handed to him and Ronan gets away with The Power Stone.

Shrek Forever After (Shrek Makes A Deal With Rumpelstiltskin)

If there is one downside to Shrek (Mike Myers) finding love with Fiona (Cameron Diaz), she may have made him more willing to let his guard down a bit, potentially leading to his disastrous decision in 2010's Shrek Forever After. His nostalgia for his swamp-dwelling days clouds the ogre's judgment when speaking with Rumpelstiltskin (Walt Dohrn), who convinces him to wish himself into an alternate reality where the trickster rules Far Far Away.

Bee Movie (Barry Sues Humanity)

Writer Jerry Seinfeld's Bee Movie stars the comedian as an insect named Barry B. Benson, who becomes angry at humans profiting off of their honey and seeks legal action. He succeeds and bees no longer work in favor of the human race but it ends up causing an environmental disaster.

Avengers: Infinity War (Star-Lord Punches Thanos)

By putting Thanos (Josh Brolin) under Mantis' (Pom Klementieef's) trance, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Peter Parker (Tom Holland), and the remaining Guardians come super close to removing the Infinity Gauntlet from his hand. However, Peter "Star-Lord" Quill (Chris Pratt) learns that the Titan killed Gamora and punches Thanos in anger, breaking the trance and allowing him to get away. This is one moment from 2018's Avengers: Infinity War that understandably prevents some fans from calling it one of the best Marvel movies.

The Descent (Juno Chooses An Unmapped Cave To Explore)

We are not sure if we can count Juno (Natalie Mendoza) as a hero of 2005's The Descent, due to the idiotic stunt she pulls in the otherwise great horror movie. Her friends learn that she chose an unexplored cavern for their spelunking trip only after they get trapped inside with man-eating, nocturnal mutants.

Hancock (Hancock Fights Mary)

It is revealed in Hancock that Will Smith's eponymous superhuman gets weaker the longer he stays in contact with Mary Embrey (Charlize Theron), who turns out to be part of his kind, too. That does not stop him from engaging in a cataclysmic fight with her near the end of the superhero movie not based on a comic book from 2008.

The Blair Witch Project (Mike Throws The Map In The River)

It is not unusual for horror movie characters to make questionable decisions but when Mike (Michael C. Williams) tosses the map to the Black Hills Forest in The Blair Witch Project is simply unforgivable. He argues in the 1999 found footage thriller that the map was ultimately useless, and he may have been right, but discarding the one chance you may have of reaching safety is never the right move.

Skyfall (Q Connects Silva's Computer To MI6's Mainframe)

There is a reason they say you should go through IT before you investigate a suspicious piece of equipment at the office yourself and Q (Ben Whishaw) demonstrates why in 2012's Skyfall. Perhaps the older version of the tech wizard from previous James Bond movies would have been smarter about hooking up Silva's (Javier Bardem) laptop to MI6's main system, which causes the organization to lose control of their tech to the villain.

Army Of Darkness (Ash Speaks The Wrong Incantation)

Bruce Campbell's Ash Williams becomes increasingly dumber in each of the Evil Dead movies, leading up to his absolute worst mistake while trapped in the Middle Ages in 1992's Army of Darkness. He does not even bother to properly memorize a set of words that will take him back to modern times when he finds the Necronomicon and, in attempting to fake his way through it, ends up unleashing more evil forces.

The Big Lebowski (Walter Destroys A Stranger’s Car)

Suspecting that teenage Larry Sellers used stolen ransom money to purchase a hot Corvette, Walter Sobchak (John Goodman) smashes it repeatedly with a crowbar, only to discover it belongs to Larry's angry neighbor. It is easily one of the funniest moments from one of the best movies of the 1990s, The Big Lebowski, but also makes us sad for The Dude (Jeff Bridges) that he is best friends with such an impulse-driven dolt.

Jeepers Creepers (Darry Tries To See Into The Creeper's Pipe)

In Jeepers Creepers, witnessing the Creeper (Jonathan Breck) shoving dead bodies down a large pipe sticking out of the ground, Darry (Justin Long) tries to investigate by looking down the pipe himself but ends up sliding right into the killer's lair. If only he had listened to his sister, Trish's (Gina Philips), meta warning: "You know the part in scary movies when somebody does something really stupid, and everybody hates them for it? This is it."

The Flash (Batman Sacrifices Himself To Destroy Zod's Ship)

While Michael Keaton's return as Batman in 2023's The Flash was awesome, one not-so-stellar moment sees him attempting to save the day by crashing the Batwing into Zod's ship. Unfortunately, the otherwise valiant effort caused very little damage to the craft and only the Dark Knight fatally succumbed to the crash.

Moana (Maui Steals The Heart Of Te Fiti)

The opening scene of the modern Disney animated movie classic, 2016's Moana, explains how Maui (Dwayne Johnson) stole and misplaced the heart of Te Fiti, which he insists was for humanity's benefit. It is not until he meets the title character (voiced by Auliʻi Cravalho) that he realizes that the artifact's absence caused damage to the Hawaiian Islands and their locals.

Jumanji (Peter Tries To Cheat The Game)

In the original 1995 adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg's children's book, Jumanji, Peter (Bradley Pierce) tries to end the wild board game's reign of terror by dropping the dice at the right number to finish. Pulp Fiction

Quentin Tarantino's second film, Pulp Fiction, was one of the most anticipated movies of 1994 and the director immediately let audiences know he was on point with the opening scene between Tim Roth and Amanda Plummer in the diner. Jaws

That's how Citizen Kane opens and audiences then and now are captivated from that moment until the end, when they learn what "Rosebud" means in the movie's final scene.

Apocalypse Now

Some movies just need to have some incredible music and one iconic shot to lock you in. Apocalypse Now is one of those movies. From the foreboding sounds of The Doors' song "The End" to the fireball or napalm that rushes across the jungle in the opening scene, director Francis Ford Coppola immediately let everyone know this was going to be a different kind of war movie.

Purple Rain

If you're one of the most iconic musicians of your day and you decide to make a movie about a fictionalized version of yourself, you'd better open the show with a banger. That's exactly what Prince did when he opened Purple Rain with "Let's Go Crazy." It's simply a performance (and guitar solo) for the ages and sets the tone for the movie perfectly.

The Godfather

While it may not start with a bang like some of the other movies on this list, the opening scene of The Godfather sets the tone for the movie in a way nothing else could. Within minutes audiences knew exactly what kind of man Vito Corleone was and what was important to him.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark

Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the best adventure films of all time and as such, it opens with one of the most exciting sequences in Hollywood history as our hero Indiana Jones dodges traps and a giant boulder to escape with his treasure. Though he loses it right away, of course. It's a very worthy opening to the Indiana Jones franchise.

Boogie Nights

Director Paul Thomas Anderson knocks it out of the park with the first scene in Boogie Nights that lets you know exactly where and when the movie is happening. The long tracking shot introduced almost every character movie right away and audiences are already getting to know them by the time the shot changes. It's brilliant.

Saving Private Ryan

In many ways, Saving Private Ryan changed how war movies are made and what audiences expect from them. The opening scene, when Tom Hanks and his platoon hit the beaches of Normandy on D-Day is one of, if not the, most intense action scenes ever put on film. It's praised for its depiction of the battle and the visceral feel of it all is simply incredible.

Spectre

The James Bond franchise is famous for its opening, pre-credits scenes, so we had to include one on this list. There are any number of great ones you could go with, but for our money, the opening to Spectre with the tracking shot all across Mexico City and into a hotel, and out to the ledge, is pure magic. And pure Bond.

Scream

In an homage to the great Alfred Hitchcock movie Psycho, the opening scene of Scream features one of the biggest stars in the movie, Drew Barrymore, getting killed just minutes into the story. For audiences at the time, it was a completely brilliant and shocking moment as Barrymore had been marketed heavily so no one expected her to meet her demise so soon. It was something Barrymore insisted on.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation

When it comes to the Mission: Impossible franchise, fans can always count on an amazing opening sequence. On the one hand, it's hard to pick one as the best, but on the other hand, c'mon, it's the one where Tom Cruise hangs from a freaking plane! That opening to Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is one of the most incredible stunts Cruise has done on a long, long list of stunts he's done for those movies.

Trainspotting

Danny Boyle's Trainspotting walks a tightrope between really cool and fun, and desperately tragic. This is all summed up in the first few seconds of the movie when audiences see a very rough-looking Renton (Ewan McGregor) running from the police and almost getting hit by a car as Iggy Pop's "Lust For Life" accompanies the scene. It's not only the perfect opening scene for the movie, it's a brilliant musical moment as well.

There Will Be Blood

Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood is one of the examples on this list of movies that set a tone immediately, but do so not with action and pizazz but with a gentle slow build. There is virtually no dialog other than some grunts from the protagonist (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he struggles to get his oil well going. Like the rest of the movie, it's intense, but quietly so. It's really perfect.

The Matrix

While we don't meet Neo right away in The Matrix, we do get a great example of how the world in the movie is going to work as we watch Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) barely escape a group of Agents in the Matrix.

Inglourious Basterds

If you want some quiet intensity, there may be no better opening scene than Inglourious Basterds. Christoph Waltz's character sitting and drinking milk while hunting for hidden Jews is seriously intense without anything more than some brilliant dialog by Quentin Tarantino and a glass of milk. It's the least over-the-top moment in te movie, and yet sets the tone perfectly.

Top Gun

The flight deck of an aircraft carrier is an exciting and dangerous place to be. For Top Gun, director Tony Scott didn't need to use any of the stars of the movie, or even any actors at all. Instead, he used actual Navy members doing their actual jobs as jet fighters took off and landed all to the soaring notes of Harold Faltermeyer's guitar-based soundtrack. Talk about pulling you right into a movie!

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 1

Director James Gunn has become famous for his brilliant use of music in the Guardians Of The Galaxy movies. Star-Lord's mixtape quickly became one of the main characters of the movies, almost. That started at the very beginning of the first movie when we all first meet Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) as he dances his way through the opening scene to "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone.

Full Metal Jacket

The very beginning of Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket features young men getting their heads shaved as they join the Marines. The next few minutes are just R. Lee Emery yelling at the new inductees. It's one of the most iconic opening scenes of any movie, much less any war movie and it's a big part of what makes it among the best war movies ever made.

Deadpool

By now we all know just what kind of "superhero" Deadpool is. In fact, even if you weren't familiar with the anti-hero from the comic books, it only takes about the first ten minutes of the first Deadpool movie to know exactly who he is. There really is no better introduction to a superhero movie, and that's really saying something.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

The two main characters in Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels are, in some ways, very competent criminals. In other ways, they are complete disasters. The opening moments show both sides of them perfectly as they pull off their scam selling stolen jewelry for a time before they lose all their merchandise getting chased by the cops.

Jurassic Park

There was no bigger movie in the early '90s than Jurassic Park and there was no bigger opening moment than when audiences were thrown right into the action as the game wardens and staff tried to wrangle a velociraptor into its cage. It did more than just help the movie become iconic for millions of people.

No Country For Old Men

The opening scene to No Country For Old Men immediately draws the audience into the movie and its dark, foreboding nature. After a voiceover by Tommy Lee Jones, we see an unknown character getting arrested for an unknown reason. We soon learn that the character is Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) and just how ruthless he is.

Gladiator

Ridley Scott may not care much for historical accuracy, but that doesn't matter when you recreate an ancient battle as he does at the opening of Gladiator. It's an amazing scene reminiscent of the great battle scenes in movies before CGI when it was all about practical effects and a huge number of extras.

Once Upon a Time In The West

To make a great western, you have to set a mood. Once Upon a Time In The West does this as well or better than any other Western. Viewers can feel the heat of the day and the crackling tension well before any action happens. You know it's coming, you just don't how or when.

Baby Driver

Take a great soundtrack, a cool moment of people wearing matching suits and sunglasses, throw in a fantastic car chase and you're guaranteed to suck audiences in immediately. Just like they do in Baby Driver. The movie takes off at full speed right from the jump.

Reservoir Dogs

Quentin Tarantino told the whole world just who he was in the first few minutes of his first movie, Reservoir Dogs. The intense, fast-paced dialog he's known for is present right at the very beginning as his character Mr. Orange explains the real meaning behind his favorite Madonna song. And it's not what you think.

A Clockwork Orange

A Clockwork Orange's opening scene definitely has audiences asking more questions than it's ever answering, but that's exactly what draws you in so quickly. You have to know what these guys in the funny outfits are up to and why in the world they are seemingly drinking milk in a weird bar. Later, you might regret getting those answers...
