Joanna Gaines has a new show, and unlike her cooking series, this series will take her back to her Fixer Upper roots, hopefully without some of the chaos attached. The project, slated for the Magnolia network and those with a Max subscription, will dive into home renovation on a smaller scale with Mini Reni.

Starting May 19th and running every Wednesday to July 9th, Deadline reported Mini Reni is on its way to fans of the Gaines family and their projects. Here's what to expect from the renovation series premiering seven years after the final episode of Fixer Upper.

What Is Mini Reni About?

Mini Reni taps into the appeal of renovation shows like Fixer Upper, but differs by emphasizing smaller-scale remodels. Rather than tackle the tremendous redesign of a whole home, Joanna Gaines will zero in on one or two spaces and focus on making that small part of the home look as great as possible.

She might've gotten buff and in shape to tackle massive projects, the focus this time is on the smaller things. For those still missing Fixer Upper all these years later, this should scratch that itch.

Why Joanna Gaines Latest Show Feels So Appealing To This Fixer Upper Fan

I used to love watching Fixer Upper and still enjoy throwing on new and upcoming HGTV shows to see people turn underwhelming houses into something amazing. Eventually, though, I'm forced to confront the reality that I'm never going to be someone with all that's required to renovate an entire house, and that kills the fun out of watching for me just a bit.

What I am capable of is redesigning a single room and/or working on a smaller-scaled home renovation project. In fact, I've put forth the effort with quite a few of those in the last decade, which is why Mini Reni is a pretty appealing idea. Maybe this will inspire me to make some big changes to my current living space, or I'll just enjoy a new series and continue to dream that I'll be a home renovator whilst doing none of the work to do so.

As for what kinds of designs I'd like to see the show tackle, I would love to see Mini Reni take on a child's bedroom or a balcony space. I'm in desperate need of more innovation for both, and would welcome an episode that gives me some fresh ideas to redesign those spaces and make them feel even more welcoming. I haven't even seen the show yet, and I'm already looking outside thinking about how I can switch things up!

Chip Gaines is turning 50. The longtime TV host has a birthday coming up on November 14th, and he recently spoke about the milestone while appearing with his wife Joanna Gaines on Drew Barrymore’s show. He may not be super enthusiastic about what’s coming next, but I gotta ask: Is it cool to say he’s in his Zaddy era yet?

He's not the only celebrity approaching or who just hit the big birthday milestone. Elizabeth Banks had a funny post for her birthday after hitting 50 earlier this year. Jimmy Fallon just hit 50. Barrymore herself is also turning the big 5-0 coming up, but she and the reality star have very different outlooks about what the birthday means. In the former child actor’s case, she’s kind of excited and open to what’s next, and she’s enthusiastic about turning 50. Gaines, however, is struggling a bit more, as he mentioned in a clip.

I’m honestly surprised to hear him lacking in enthusiasm about the celebrity birthday milestone. Chip’s a funny guy on TV and he’s generally in positive and playful spirits – as he notes here, he’s a perpetual “Peter Pan” personality. Plus, he seemingly has a great home life, recently hit a relationship milestone with Joanna, and has a lot of positivity going on the career front, as he did also make sure to note to Ms. Barrymore.

As someone who watched Fixer Upper from the beginning and has followed the famous couple through their subsequent career after their HGTV show ended, this whole thing is a bit hard to compute. Chip Gaines was not even 40 when the show hit HGTV. It’s hard to believe 11 years have passed since that time. While the TV personality has aged like fine wine, it’s still difficult to wrap my head around how quickly time has passed, so on the one hand I get where Mr. Gaines is coming from.

On the other hand I have two words: Zaddy era. Christopher Meloni at 63 has fully embraced those two simple words, and he is thriving. All he had to do was show up to the set of Law & Order and wear a pair of pants that really showed off his assets. Our condolences to his family, who have had to deal with all the Meloni zaddy memes, but also I really have no regrets about this happening.

And Meloni isn’t the only Zaddy out there! Just look at Stanley Tucci, as Emily Blunt has reminded us. Or Pedro Pascal, who isn't a dad, but certainly has that zad(dy) factor.

Likewise, Chip Gaines is a man who has made fitness a priority over the years, running marathons and more and staying in shape on the job. He really knows how to pull off a toolbelt on TV (and as a sidebar once actually ran a marathon in a tool belt) and a suit coat during interviews. Maybe like Meloni, fully embracing the zaddiness of his existence is what should come next?

While they may not be on our TV screens with quite the same frequency as in years past — at least outside of reruns — Chip and Joanna Gaines are absolutely still working as hard as ever to keep their growing fanbase entertained and informed with their TV channel and branding empire Magnolia Network. Just ahead of the premiere of their latest episodic renovation project, Fixer Upper: The Lake House, Joanna celebrated another big milestone in posting a pair of adorable then-and-now pics to mark the 21st anniversary of when they tied the knot.

Not only do they more or less look the same in the current-day pic as they did whenever the first one was taken, but Chip Gaines could potentially be wearing the exact same blue jeans and boots now as he was two decades ago. Which isn’t a knock on him or anything, since he clearly knows how to take something worthwhile and make it last for as long as possible.

Joanna Gaines met her future hubby back in 2001 when she was working at her father’s tire store, fresh out of Baylor University, with journalism dreams on her mind. Meanwhile, Chip Gaines was in the midst of building up his property-flipping skills in Waco, having also graduated from Baylor years earlier. They met when he took his truck in for a brake inspection (via Baylor Magazine), at which point he recognized her from appearances in the store’s TV commercials, and it was the very next day when he asked her out.

23 years later — they were wed during a 2003 ceremony in Waco, Texas — the couple are arguably the king and queen of all things housing, whether it’s buying and flipping real estate, furnishing and decorating finished homes, ways to entertain guests, and more. They first took over with Fixer Upper (one of the best unscripted shows streaming on Max), a show and concept they take pride in for not replicating other home reno series.

Working within the world of reality TV isn’t always a net positive for couples — though Tarek El Moussa and ex Christina Hall are leaning into their past drama for a new show co-starring their respective spouses — but changing up the flow can certainly help. And it seems like the Gaines made the right choice in stepping back from traditional Fixer Upper seasons so that they could set up standalone seasons focusing on larger-scale projects they have keen interest in tackling. It began with Fixer Upper: The Castle in 2022, continued with 2023’s Fixer Upper: The Hotel, and will continue in 2024 with an enviable lake house setting. Check out that trailer below!

Would Chip and Joanna Gaines have continued being so happy for 21 years if they weren’t motivated to keep things fresh in their careers? It’s impossible to say, and thankfully isn’t relevant to speculate about, since they’re clearly still living their best lives together.

In 2022, HBO Max and Discovery merged. This led to the creation of just Max. However, these few suggestions may help you figure out what reality shows to watch on Max. 

90 Day Fiancé 

90 Day Fiancé started with a simple premise: Americans marry their foreign-born mates in 90 days to secure a spousal visa. The hit TLC show launched in 2014. Since its inception, the show has evolved and now includes numerous spinoff series. It’s also now a show that focuses on heightened drama. The original series focused more on the natural drama that comes with the stress of marrying someone from another country. 

Max has the original 90 Day Fiancé and all of its spinoff shows, including 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, 90 Day: The Single Life, and the newest spin-off 90 Day: The Last Resort, which has plenty of drama including a cheating scandal. 

All nine seasons of 90 Day Fiancé are available on Max. It’s such a popular series because it highlights the depths people go to to find love and make a marriage or relationship work. People who enjoy dating shows but wish they had more drama may enjoy the 90-Day Fiancé franchise.

Selena + Chef 

Selena + Chef is hosted by Selena Gomez. Each episode features her learning to cook a dish with the help of a world-renowned chef. It’s a Max original series, so all four seasons are available to stream. It’s one of the few Max original reality TV shows, and it’s one of the best shows for beginner cooks. Gomez offers a relaxing setting as she struggles to learn to make dishes along with her viewers.

It’s a simple concept that works well. It’s partly because of Gomez’s enthusiasm to learn and partly because of the chefs who are eager to teach. Cooking show fans may enjoy Selena + Chef because it offers some useful cooking techniques.

Project Greenlight 

Project Greenlight is an HBO original series that began in 2001. It followed aspiring filmmakers who were given the opportunity to have their original script produced and turned into a feature film. Its original seasons aired in 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2015. Then in 2023, the show rebranded and returned. The original series had Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as the celebrities leading the charge. The 2023 Project Greenlight starred Issa Rae, Kumail Nanjiani, and Gina Prince-Bythewood.

Max only has one season of the original Project Greenlight (the 2015 season) and the first season of the new version. Project Greenlight gives you some insight into the filmmaking process. Not many reality shows or docuseries allow a look at the filmmaking process, so this series offers a look at a world that’s unfamiliar to many, especially the indie film project world.

Billy On The Street 

Billy Eichner hosts Billy on the Street. It’s mainly a game show where Eichner approaches New Yorkers with random questions, some trivia-based and others just opinions. The comedy comes in the (often unaware and occasionally unwilling) contestants' reactions and Eichner’s brass personality. Billy on the Street sometimes also features celebrities, including Paul Rudd, Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, and Amy Poehler. 

Max has four seasons available, Season 2 through Season 5. Billy on the Street may appeal to those who appreciate Eichner’s humor but also the hilarious reactions from the New York residents. It’s one of the funniest game shows and reality shows on Max.

Say Yes To The Dress 

Say Yes to the Dress is one of TLC’s original hit reality shows. As of 2023, it has aired over 22 seasons. Say Yes to the Dress also has many spinoff shows, including Say Yes to the Dress: UK, Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, and Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids. As the title implies, it’s a reality show about women searching for their perfect wedding dress. The series occasionally has famous guest stars. However, host Randy Fenoli is the star and expert of this TLC show. 

Fans of this reality TV show can watch all 22 seasons on Max and a few of the spinoff shows, including Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta and Say Yes to the Dress: Dubai. For those who enjoy dress hunting or just want more insight into the world of wedding dresses, Say Yes to the Dress can be a useful tool. It’s also just a stress-free reality show to watch to decompress.

The Big Brunch 

The Big Brunch is a charming cooking show hosted by Dan Levy. He serves as the host and a judge alongside Sohla El-Waylly and Will Guidara. Ten chefs compete for a grand prize that will allow them to accomplish one of their cooking dreams, whether that’s a restaurant, cookbook, or product is up to them. They have a series of challenges each week that test their creativity and cooking abilities.

The Big Brunch is a Max original show that aired its first season in 2022. We still have hope for a second season on Max but it remains in TV limbo. The Big Brunch is a cooking show that’s a little unique in that it emphasizes the contestants and their story more than the judges or the challenges. It’s fun, warm, and as inviting as brunch itself. Cooking show fans may enjoy The Big Brunch because it has aspects that make cooking shows so entertaining (competition, glamorous food, etc.) but distinct enough to not feel like you’ve seen it a thousand times.

Fixer Upper 

Joanna Gaines and Chip Gaines host Fixer Upper. It’s an HGTV original series about a married couple showing potential buyers three homes in central Texas. Once they decided on a home, Joanna and Chip renovated it based on the buyers’ budgets. Fixer Upper is one of HGTV’s most popular series. The show’s five seasons are available to stream on Max. In addition, the new Discovery Plus and Magnolia Network Joanna and Chip Gaines series are also available on Max.

Fixer Upper appeals to the Gaines family fans and those who love renovation shows. It’s one of the most well-known renovation series and one of the best because of the Gaines’s inviting likability.

House Hunters 

House Hunters is another very popular HGTV series. It began in 1999 and has aired many seasons. House Hunters also has various spinoff series, including House Hunters International and House Hunters Renovation. As of September 2023, Max has several volumes of House Hunters available to watch. Each volume contains about 20 seasons. The volumes available are Volumes 3 to Volume 8. Some of the House Hunters spinoffs are also available to watch on Max.

House Hunters has been so long-running and successful because it gives you a little look into the lives of others. It’s a sort-of voyeuristic series because you get to see how couples and individuals behave and interact when dealing with the home-buying process. It also showcases various homes across the world. You can home-shop as you watch. It also teaches you some home-buying lingo.

Chopped 

Chopped is a long-running cooking competition series hosted by Ted Allen. In each episode, four chefs compete in three rounds to become the Chopped champion. In each round, the contestants must compose a dish using mystery box ingredients. After each round, a contestant is eliminated until one becomes the Chopped champion. Max has Volumes 1 through 3 available of Chopped. Each volume contains about 20 seasons. Max also has some of the spinoff series available to stream, including Chopped Junior and Chopped Sweets.

Chopped is a series that knows how to build drama and suspense around cooking. You can’t help but feel the contestants’ anxiety as they try to compose things such as an appetizer using candy grapes and canned chicken. It’s a great series for cooking fans and those who enjoy anxiety-inducing TV.

Match Me Abroad 

Match Me Abroad is like 90 Day Fiancé’s cousin. The shows are similar except Match Me Abroad takes place from the perspective of people searching for love abroad, not those that already found it. The singles hire matchmakers to find potential mates. Then they fly to the country to go on a series of dates.

Match Me Abroad showcases how personal issues and cultural differences can interfere with finding love. Match Me Abroad will definitely appeal to dating show fans who love the 90 Day series and similar ones. Only one season has aired on TLC.

Baking Championship 

Baking Championship is a Food Network franchise that showcases professional bakers trying to bake various treats based on a set of rules and themes. Baking Championship has several different themed series, including Halloween Baking Championship and Spring Baking Championship. Max doesn’t have the original series Holiday Baking Championship. 

The Baking Championship shows are perfect for The Great British Bake Off fans. It’s not as wholesome as that series, but it satisfies those who enjoy baking reality TV and shows with creative confections at the center. The Baking Championship shows highlight what happens when passion for baking and imagination meet.

Good Bones 

Good Bones follows mother and daughter home transformation team Karen E. Laine and Mina Starsiak Hawk. All seven seasons of the HGTV powerhouse show are available on Max. The final season of Good Bones will likely be available to stream on Max once it concludes airing. Several of the Good Bones spinoff series are also available to watch on Max, including Good Bones: Risky Business and Good Bones Better Yard.

The series takes place in Indiana, so it has a Midwest charisma. Family renovation shows are huge for HGTV, but what makes this one different is that the town and its citizens are also part of the show’s appeal.

There are plenty of reality shows on Max that are worth your time, but these are a few of the ones to start your reality TV binge journey.

Chip and Joanna Gaines are continuing to take over the home makeover market, from their Fixer Upper spinoffs to their own network and more. They’ve previously opened up about the major problem with their homes now that their shows are so popular, but now the duo is getting candid about the biggest challenges they face compared to other home renovation series.

The Gaines have been pretty busy between running Magnolia Network and working on major renovations such as Fixer Upper: The Castle. They first made their mark in 2013 when Fixer Upper premiered on HGTV, fast forward a decade, and they are now well-known faces in the world of home renovation. So, considering this vast world of renovations shows, Chip Gaines opened up to Deadline about what sets him and his wife apart from other series, explaining the role authenticity plays in their work:

It’s definitely been exciting to see what Chip and Joanna Gaines have been able to create over the years, especially since they have been around for so long. They have also been keeping fans updated on certain renovations, as Joanna gave an inside look at their big castle fixer-upper in Waco. Of course, things haven’t always been easy for them as they’ve expanded their empire. For example, the Gaines' previously had to pull a show due to controversy, however, it eventually was put back on the air.

It's no secret that there are a lot of home renovation shows on TV, but Fixer Upper still stands out from the crowd, but it has its hard moments. Joanna Gaines opened up about doing the big reveals and how hard it is to still make it meaningful yet different. She also explained both the challenges and the rewards that come with taking on projects that have smaller budgets, saying:

While Chip and Joanna Gaines have been doing renovations since 2003, per HGTV, they are still going strong. However, there are always challenges to work through, but it seems like they are ready and willing to take them on as they come. With the few Fixer Upper spinoffs the couple has done, they’ve been able to reinvent the series every once in a while, while still keeping the tone of the show the same, and it seems to be working.

The Gaines' remained dedicated to launching Magnolia Network in the era of streaming and it's continuing to bring fans renovation after renovation, especially now with the Max rebrand. While they will definitely continue to face more challenges as they work to set themselves apart from other shows and teams, one thing that definitely won’t change is how much they care, as well as their authenticity when it comes to bringing people the home they deserve. Chip and Joanna Gaines are killing the renovation game, as they have been for quite some time now. On their Magnolia Network, the couple continues to dominate in the genre with their Fixer Upper series and its spinoffs. Their biggest renovation is in the form of a castle, and after seeing a new look at the bathroom, I am completely obsessed.

While Fixer Upper: The Castle highlighted some problems, as Joanna Gaines opened up about wondering what’s going to happen to a house after it’s sold, she still has much love for the job. She and Chip Gaines were working on a castle in Waco, Texas, and they’ve been taking fans on the big journey via the show and social media. 

Just as you might not expect to find a castle in Waco, Texas, you might be surprised by everything that the pair pulled off in renovating this bathroom! Joanna Gaines shared an up-close-and-personal look at the room on Instagram, indicating that the tile is the showstopper. Not to be overdramatic or anything, but I would die to see this in person:

Can you believe that the bathroom used to be a dressing room? Because that is hard to wrap my mind around, and it does look pretty current. Like Joanna Gaines said, the walnut cabinet plus the marble makes it all work, and I need it more in my life.

I've grown to appreciate the finer things in life a lot more in the last few years with a family connection to interior design, and I'm ready for a trip to see this castle in person after a glimpse of the bathroom. With how pristine it looks, however, I'm not sure I'd want to even touch anything! If the bathroom is a sign of how gorgeous the whole castle looked by the end of the renovation, the building is undoubtedly a sight to behold inside and out.

It's not surprising to see something so gorgeous come from Joanna Gaines, since she and Chip Gaines always manage to go above and beyond when it comes to renovating. Even though some houses are put up for rent or on Airbnb (which the pair addressed in a statement when vacation house rentals began to grow in popularity), witnessing the renovation process is a treat. 

Fixer Upper: The Castle debuted its finale back in November, but getting these new posts about the project and an inside look at particular rooms makes the experience even better in hindsight. It’s no question that Chip and Joanna Gaines have grown increasingly popular both from an entertainment standpoint but also from a business standpoint. The popular Magnolia Network couple is still (probably) most famous for their house renovations and recently nabbed some traction for renovating “The Castle,” a well-known property in Waco. However, Chip revealed they haven’t sold the property yet and the reason why speaks to one of the problems the couple has dealt with as they’ve grown more popular. 

If you Google around for Magnolia Homes, you’ll probably find a slew of articles mentioning Airbnb or VRBO. The two house renting services now have a slew of Chip and Joanna-renovated homes available for tourists who want to see all of the sweet flourishes the reality TV stars have put into homes. In fact, a lot of the homes on Fixer Upper have ended up as rentals instead of single-family homes, as the show portrays.

When it comes to The Castle, however, Chip Gaines is adamant he really would like to put the property on the market “with the sole intention to sell it to a family.” He specifically wants someone to live in and enjoy the home not profit off of it. Opening up about the issue of homeowners choosing to rent out places he’s put time and love into rather than live in them, Gaines also told Variety,

Chip said the couple is hanging onto the iconic house for now, and it really sounds like he's looking for the right buyer before it goes on the market. As for his wife, she also told the outlet they talked and decided to "enjoy it for a second before they decide." So, right now The Castle's fate is in limbo. 

This isn't the first time Chip and Joanna Gaines have been candid about issues that have cropped up during their time filming episodes of Fixer Upper. While they've said they have "no problem" with homeowners listing houses, as long ago as 2017 the couple had reworked contracts to try to cut back on the problem. A rep told the Waco Tribune at the time the "goal" was to do "remodels for clients' homes" calling it "the true intent" of the show and also noting it was what the audience expected.

While the rentals issue is on a larger scale, Joanna and Chip are fairly open books, and have even been candid about how the couples' first Fixer Upper renovation ended up being a "mess." They also have spoken about their crazy whirlwind cable run and how they ended up leaving HGTV, only to suffer headwinds getting their own channel Magnolia Network off the ground (you can now view programming with an HBO Max subscription). 

What's next for The Castle is still up in the air, but given the time, love and care the reality couple put into the home, I am hopeful it won't go the way of The Barndominium.

While Chip and Joanne Gaines struggled with their Magnolia Network shows at the beginning of the year, it turns out that the couple has been working on a brand new iteration of their popular Fixer Upper series. And they are involving castles this time around!

The popular Zillow Gone Wild Instagram account, which shows off unique houses on Zillow, dedicates Fridays to castle homes, appropriately called Castle Fridays. The King and Queen of home renovations, Chip and Joanna Gaines, will now also be involved in Castle Fridays as their new show Fixer Upper: The Castle will be premiering soon on Magnolia Network, and the trailer is already available. In the new show, the Fixer Upper duo have bought their 19th-century castle, and they try their best to renovate it. Chip has been wanting the castle for two decades, and now that dream has finally come to fruition. This looks like it’s going to be one of, if not the, biggest and most challenging renovation for the couple yet as they try to restore it back to its original state. 

Fixer Upper: The Castle marks the second Fixer Upper spinoff, following 2018’s Behind the Design. The original series initially ran from 2013-2018. With the launch of Magnolia Network in 2020, the duo announced announced the return of Fixer Upper. The Welcome Home version officially premiered in early 2021 on its new network, solidifying that it is definitely Chip and Joanna Gaines’ world, and we are just living in it.

Seeing how they renovate a whole castle should be interesting since this is definitely different from what they generally do. Usually, they completely renovate a house, and by the time they’re done, you don’t even recognize it. The fact that their goal is to restore it to its original state is something to look forward to. Restoring something from the 19th century to the 21st century clearly won't be easy, but who better for the job than Chip and Joanna Gaines?

Earlier this year, the couple had some complications with their new show, Home Work. Complaints from several homeowners alleged that hosts Candis and Andy Meredith damaged homes for work done on the show. The series has since been reinstated on Magnolia Network, with all episodes of the first season available to stream on the website.

It may have taken slightly longer than expected for Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network to fully come to fruition across the streaming and linear television spectrums, but it doesn’t appear as if any amount of waiting has had a negative effect on the brand’s widespread popularity. The core couple are still going strong on building its audience base five months after launching the cable network proper (following a successful streaming launch through Discovery+’s growing library), and now audiences can expect a brand new Fixer Upper spinoff to hit Magnolia Network quite soon, along with several other newly announced series.

Already one of the top 25 basic cable networks, Magnolia Network is rising as fast as can be within that zone, and currently boasts nearly 100 original projects to date, equaling more than 350 hours of programming for channel surfers and streamers alike. (And yes, some of those other shows also include Joanna Gaines.) In the new announcement, Magnolia’s Global President Allison Page says the company has over 30 in-development projects that could potentially make their way to viewers’ eyeballs in the future, but for now, let’s focus on the four original series that are definitely coming to the summer TV schedule.

Fixer Upper: Welcome Home - The Castle (September)

You gotta love a title with both a colon and a dash in there, especially if it involves a no-longer-bald Chip Gaines trying to get his shiplap on inside a legitimate castle. The biggest fix-up project of the Gaines’ career so far, they’ll be setting their sights on a historical landmark in the form of a 19th century castle in Waco, Texas. Restoring any kind of older structure is always going to be more of a challenge, so this will obviously be quite a unique task for the Fixer Upper squad. Not only will there be infrastructure issues to contend with, but everyone involved also has to consider keeping the setting’s natural beauty intact. So it’s a good thing Joanna Gaines knows a thing or two about such things. 

The first of eight episodes of Fixer Upper: Welcome Home - The Castle will debut on Discovery + in September.

Silos Baking Competition (Sunday, June 12) 

Set in Waco, Texas, the new series Silos Baking Competition serves as the first cooking competition series for Magnolia, and will celebrate home bakers who bring the joy as well as the culinary skills in the kitchen. The contestants will be faded with attempting to perfect a favorite recipe, with a cash prize on the line, as well as the chance to have their dish featured as a purchase-friendly treat at Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Silos Baking Co. Game show-to-bakery isn’t exactly farm-to-table, but it should be entertaining all the same.

Silos Baking Competition will debut on both Magnolia Network and Discovery+ on Sunday, June 12. 

The Home Team With Britt And Annie (September)

Annie Hawkins and Brittany Baker are BFFs who also happen to be pretty proficient in the world of renovating and creative designs. Their start-up business in Salt Lake City is in the spotlight with the new show The Home Team with Britt and Annie, as the duo takes their efforts from small-time to the big-time. 

The Home Team with Britt and Annie will debut on Discovery+ in September.

Recipe Lost And Found (Summer)

Casey Corn, the classically trained chef and food anthropologist, is at the forefront of Recipe Lost and Found, which will have her going out into the world to help people reconnect with family recipes that have been lost. Corn will dig into family histories and cultures to figure out what makes the various dishes so memorable. 

Recipe Lost and Found will debut on Discovery+ this summer. 

Magnolia Network Renewals

On top of each of those new series being announced, Magnolia Network also revealed that three of its original projects have received season renewals. Erin French's restaurant-based series The Lost Kitchen will return for Season 3, the historical structure series Restoration Road with Clint Harp will also return for Season 3, and Zoë François' cooking series Zoë Bakes will also be back for a third season. 

Magnolia Network unveiled these updates ahead of Warner Bros. Discovery’s presentation on May 18 for the network upfronts, during which the world at large will likely learn more about what’s coming for everyone with Discovery+ and HBO Max subscriptions. In the meantime, check out everything else hitting the small screen this summer with our 2022 TV premiere schedule. 

Chip Gaines finally did the dang thing. The star has been growing out his hair for months -- to myriad thoughts from his fanbase -- but he finally chopped it all off for charity. Now he’s bald and beautiful, plus he’s sharing how much shearing his locks was worth to fans who wanted to pitch in to St. Jude’s. Turns out, a lot of people wanted to donate to charity -- or at least a lot of people were willing to pay to see the Fixer Upper star chop off his hair.

This past week, the Magnolia Network star had finally revealed that he was prepping to cut off his long locks. The announcement was big news, particularly given how many people had thoughts about Chip’s hair over the last several, several months. That includes his own family, though they were more positive about the look than some folks. The Fixer Upper star and husband of Joanna Gaines previously said of his hairdo on Today:

Now, if you want to check out Chip Gaines’ bald-as-a-coot new look, luckily he has been very open about sharing it. He's also being very open about how much people opened their wallets to give money to St. Jude’s.

That’s right, a whopping $425,000 had been donated at the time the post was pushed onto Instagram. Meanwhile, a short while later at the time of this writing, $507,798 had actually been raised and the event page can still be checked out if you are here for Chip Gaines’ new bald look.

Of course, I’m more surprised at how the TV star looks as a bald guy than the fact that so many people were willing to share money to see it happen. St. Jude’s is in the Top 10 of most followed charities, and for good reason. It’s seen a slew of celebrity supporters in the last year alone, including Jennifer Aniston, Michael Strahan, Yara Shahidi and more. St. Jude’s would have done well with donations whether or not Chip Gaines had, well, chipped in, but who doesn’t want to pitch in for a cause that works to treat kids dealing with major illnesses?

Meanwhile, if the Fixer Upper is hoping to cut off his hair for charity once more, it could be a while before he has the chance. Luscious long locks take a while to grow out after all, and Chip Gaines would definitely be starting from square 1 this time. That is if his wife Joanna Gaines and kids would even agree to let him grow it out again. Regardless, I have to ask. Which camp did you land in? Are you pro long hair or do you prefer it short?

After a successful launch, the couple seemed to rejoice in their meal of sliders without any concerns for hair length. The meal was a well-deserved reward after Chip and Joanna Gaines suffered a few setbacks in the Magnolia Network’s launch. While the husband-wife duo celebrated the momentous occasion, followers couldn’t help but voice their opinion on Chip Gaines’ long tresses.

One follower didn’t bother to congratulate the married duo. Instead, he pleaded with Joanna Gaines to take the scissors to Chip Gaines’s latest look:

While some of these comments were a little out-of-place, many Chip and Joanna Gaines’ fans celebrated the couple’s long road to Magnolia Network’s launch. Chip Gaines’ hair has become an issue Fixer Upper fans won’t let go of. But there might be some justified reasons for Mr. Gaines growing out his hair that fans aren’t considering.

The Real Reason Chip Gaines Decided to Grow Out His Hair

In recent weeks, the Fixer Upper patriarch has been incredibly open about the real reason for letting his hair grow. Chip Gaines revealed to Access Hollywood that growing long locks was a bucket list item for him. Gaines spilled that having long hair wasn’t only a long wish for him but a result of the quarantine shutting down barbershops. Many can relate to his reasoning behind his long tresses.

Chip Gaines also gave NBC’s Today another reason for his long hair, and it’s a beautiful one. Gaines revealed to the morning show that he will be donating his hair for charity soon. The decision isn’t anything new for Gaines as he cut off his hair in 2017 to donate to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Well, there’s the reason for Chip Gaines’s long locks. Maybe the return of Fixer Upper will calm some fans' qualms. Hopefully, fans of the Gaineses will be more understanding of Gaines growing out his hair during the pandemic.

For anyone who’s ever watched an episode of Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Fixer Upper, it's always been apparent that Mr. Gaines can be a little unpredictable and childlike. That's part of what made the show fun, as he balanced out his wife’s more gentle and logical approach to most situations, and their chemistry hasn't changed even after the show's end. His unpredictability came out during the pandemic, too, as Chip Gaines decided to grow out his hair. Of course, everyone had something to say online, but has anyone asked how his family feels about the new look?

Chip Gaines went through the same dilemma most adults went through – how to get a haircut when the world is shut down. His solution, however, was to let it all go. While Gaines’ hair was never exactly super-short, this is the longest fans have ever seen his hair grow. And as those opinions continue to be shared on social media, Joanna Gaines has revealed what she and the rest of the family thinks about his shaggy look.

Joanna Gaines was right to say her husband’s new hair matches his personality. Chip Gaines has made a brand out of being a semi-mature “bro” with his crazy antics and dad-joke humor. While he's not quite a hippie or anything, having long hair does suit that relaxed silliness more than his past look did. After seeing his long locks, I would now believe that he was trying to fit into more of a professional mold before. But the pandemic, as well as a ton of post-HGTV success, made him let loose with his appearance. It probably helps that he's his own boss now and can wear his baseball caps whichever way he likes.

After Joanna Gaines gave the family’s opinion, Chip Gaines delved more into the fairly simple inspiration for his long locks with Access Hollywood, saying this about growing out his hair over the pandemic:

While the pandemic and a bucket list pushed him to grow out his hair - not quite as dour as it sounds - Chip Gaines apparently wanted to rock this look for a long time. Being in quarantine with the world shut down allowed him to finally fulfill his long-desired wish. Hopefully, Gaines will block out any naysayers' thoughts and keep the look if he wants while dealing with other issues related to their brand. And if he wants to start up a band that specializes in home renovation-related rock songs...well, that's a choice, too.

Maybe viewers will get to see Chip Gaines’ long locks once Fixer Upper: Welcome Home premieres along with the rest of Magnolia Network's programming slate on July 15.

If you only watch the home renovation shows which populate HGTV on occasion or on a cursory basis, you may have trouble telling some of the series apart. Each one generally follows a renovation / design expert duo who take a home from drab to fab in a matter of weeks or months, so that the owners can enjoy a space which better fits their lifestyle and features wonderful updates which will have any viewers scrambling to see if they can make some of that open floor plan, marble countertop luxury their own. But, there is one big way that the finished homes on Property Brothers are very different from those on shows like Fixer Upper.

Drew and Jonathan Scott began their HGTV success with Property Brothers in 2011, and have gone on to spearhead a number of spinoffs where they continue to bring homeowners fabulously redesigned houses. Fans are hearing more and more about how things behind the scenes on shows like Property Brothers, Home Town, Fixer to Fabulous, and Fixer Upper might not always be as they appear while watching finished episodes, but one thing that audiences continue to wonder about is whether or not the owners get to keep all of the amazing furniture you see in the completed homes.

In a move which is very different from what happened on Chip and Joanna Gaines' Fixer Upper, Drew Scott confirmed on Twitter, in response to a fan question, that all of those new items are in place for the homeowners to keep:

Oooh. Isn't this good to know? I mean, if you were currently trying to decide which show to apply for so that you could be featured on HGTV and have your home completely reworked by a famous duo, I could certainly see this bit of information being the deciding factor. Apparently, at least two of the Scott brothers shows, Property Brothers and Brother Vs. Brother, let owners keep everything.

For those who are somewhat in the dark on what, exactly, is going on here, know that the process of updating homes on shows like Fixer Upper or Property Brothers isn't just about putting up new cabinets and ripping out a few walls, even though we also know now that sometimes HGTV foots some of the bill to help these renovations along a bit. One of the best parts of these shows is watching just how Drew and Jonathan Scott, Chip and Joanna Gaines, and other duos, transform living spaces by adding new furniture as well as new fixtures to homes.

Every dramatic reveal shows off fully furnished homes, and those items are never the ones which belonged to the owners at the beginning of the process. All of these items are known as "staging" meant to help the owners see potential in their new(ish) house, and, usually, the renovation does not include payment for these pieces. A recent Pure Wow story confirmed that, on Fixer Upper, the homeowners were only able to keep all that new furniture if they paid for it, with Chip and Joanna sometimes gifting a refurbished or personal piece to the owner, and production paying for one new furniture item to stay.

Other series on HGTV work in a similar manner, with Home Town's Erin Napier confirming on Instagram a few years ago that homeowner renovation budgets don't usually allow for she and her husband, Ben, to completely furnish homes. Though he does often build at least one special piece which is given to them, and they're offered special discounted prices if they want to keep any of the remaining new items. And, according to their Pure Wow interview earlier this year, this process is pretty much the same for those who have Jenny and Dave Marrs renovate their property on Fixer to Fabulous.

As much as I love watching all of these people renovate homes, honestly, I think Jonathan and Drew Scott really win when it comes to completely furnishing the houses. Who wants to have most of your home updated only to have to bring back the ratty couch your pet partially chewed up or the dining table which is missing one leg and has a big stick you found in the woods duct taped to it to make sure it still stands?

Fixer Upper

Fixer Upper stars husband and wife team Joanna and Chip Gaines. Each episode involves the couple remodeling an old home. Chip and his crew work on the construction of the home, while Joanna works on design, usually by combining her own flair with the client’s wants and needs. Fixer Upper originally aired from 2013 to 2018.

The original five seasons of Fixer Upper are available on Discovery+, but as a channel. Discovery+ has a few major shows not available (yet) on demand. Instead, they have a live channel that plays these series all day. Fixer Upper is one of the shows with a channel, but no episodes on demand. It's still unclear whether Fixer Upper episodes will become available on-demand on Discovery+ when the Magnolia Network officially launches later this year.

Fixer Upper: Welcome Home is the new Fixer Upper series starring Chip and Joanna Gaines. It’s the same Joanna and Chip that you know and love, but with even bigger renovation projects. Fixer Upper: Welcome Home launched on Discovery+ on January 29, 2021, with new episodes every Friday.

Joanna and Chip have been running multiple businesses and on TV for several years, so Fixer Upper: Welcome Home allows a look at their growth as business people and TV personalities. This is the Gaines family's return to the TV world, so the projects are definitely bigger in scale. The first episode, “A Neglected Home for Newlyweds,” featured a home in complete disarray, which made the final results all the more satisfying. Fixer Upper: Welcome Home is available to stream on-demand.

Magnolia Table With Joanna Gaines

Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines is a cooking program starring the Gaines family. It features Joanna sharing some of her favorite classic and family recipes. Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines isn’t like a typical cooking show, because it puts more emphasis on having fun with cooking, and less on technique. Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines also features the Gaines family quite a bit, as they come to help her cook.

Joanna Gaines has multiple best-selling cookbooks, so this is a good series for those who already love Joanna’s cooking or ones that just want to see more of the Gaines family up close and personal. As of February 2021, Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines has six episodes on Discovery+.

The Courage To Run With Chip Gaines and Gabe Grunewald

The Courage to Run with Chip Gaines and Gabe Grunewald is a docu-series about Chip Gaines’ friendship with late pro runner Gabriele Grunewald. They met in 2017 when Grunewald had already been fighting a rare cancer called adenoid cystic carcinoma. Chip was so inspired by Gabriele that he decided to run a marathon.

In 2018, Gabriele set out to train Chip and Courage to Run documents their journey together. It’s the type of inspirational story that is bound to inspire others to start running, just from Gabe Grunewald’s short but incredible life and spirit. The Courage to Run with Chip Gaines and Gabe Grunewald premiered on Discovery+ in January 2021.

The Lost Kitchen

The Lost Kitchen is a series that follows Erin French as she returns to her hometown of Freedom, Maine to open her restaurant. The Lost Kitchen restaurant is different in many ways. For example, it has an all-female staff, and the only way to make reservations is to send a postcard. The Lost Kitchen launched on Discovery+ in January 2021.

The entire six-episode first season of The Lost Kitchen is available to stream on Discovery+. It chronicles the first year of Erin’s quest to launch her restaurant.The series goes deep into what it takes for Erin to get The Lost Kitchen up and running, including her meeting farmers to create a menu and the construction work that goes into building the restaurant.

Restoration Road With Clint Harp

Fixer Upper fans may know Clint Harp for his craftwork on the series. Harp travels across the US looking for historical structures that need some restoration. Restoration Road with Clint Harp also explores the origins of these structures. The first episode of the series involved Clint turning a century-old train car into a guesthouse.

Restoration Road with Clint Harp is a unique look at the time, effort, and passion that goes into restoration. Clint Harp also isn’t just restoring small household antiques, he’s taking on huge design and restoration projects. The series launched on Discovery+ in January 2021 with future episodes planned by the time Magnolia Network officially launches.

Super Dad

Super Dad follows DIY expert Taylor Calmus and his team of skilled builders as they help dads realize their children’s backyard dreams. The first episode follows Taylor and a dad who wants to build a skate ramp and climbing wall in his backyard for his three children.

Super Dad is a fun concept that may inspire other fathers to take more of an active role in their child’s playtime and backyard renovations. It's is also a good series to watch if you dream of taking on more household DIY activities. Because the fathers help in the preparation, it shows that anyone can be part of the building team if they have enough will for it.

The Fieldhouse

Former football player Justin Bane stars in The Fieldhouse. It tells the story of how he lost his football dreams because of an injury, but turned that devastation into a positive by devoting his life to helping others. Justin and his wife, Annie, have a 20,000 square foot fitness center called The FieldHouse.

The Fieldhouse focuses on giving insight into Bane’s life and family along with transforming his clients into happy, healthier versions of themselves. His clients set a fitness goal which Justin and Annie try to help the them achieve. The Fieldhouse is a fitness and transformation series that aims to be more personable, less about the scale numbers and more about long-term transformations.

Home On The Road With Johnnyswim

Home on the Road with Johnnyswim follows musical duo Johnnyswim, which is composed of married couple Abner Ramirez and Amanda Sudano Ramirez. The series follows a three-month, cross-country tour and managing their family.

This show really emphasizes Amanda and Abner’s relationship and love for one another. As a pair, they’re charming enough that you easily become invested in them as a unit and their family. Home on the Road with Johnnyswim is all about balancing family life with rockstar life, and it’s more of a wholesome look at road life than many would think.

Self-Employed is a series hosted by Jonathan Morris. Morris had a dream of owning a Barber Shop in Fort Worth that grew into developing a boutique hotel in the Cultural District. He gets to know the owners, their community, and how they’ve been so successful in their business ventures.

Self-Employed is an inspirational series that shows how ordinary people achieve their dreams while facing obstacles at every corner. It’s the kind of feel-good show that’s perfect to watch when you need a mood boost and some encouragement about tackling your big dreams.

First Time Fixer

If you’ve ever thought, “I could totally renovate a home. Those renovation shows make it look so easy,” then First Time Fixer is the series for you. Each episode follows individuals and pairs who set out to renovate their dream home. These individuals have no prior renovation experience, so they have no clue what they've gotten themselves into.

These are only a few series that are available on Discovery+ and will be on the Magnolia Network. The Magnolia Network promises “more than 150 hours” of unscripted programming, so there will be plenty to watch when it officially launches online on July 15, 2021.

Chip and Joanna Gaines have been hard at work on a new season of Fixer Upper, but it looks like getting back into the swing of things can be a pain. I mean that literally, following a photo from Chip Gaines that showed him in a rough position with his family.

Chip Gaines shared a special behind-the-scenes photo from the upcoming Fixer Upper season, which featured a shot of Joanna Gaines talking to the couple's second-oldest son Duke. It sounds like a relatively painless scene until looking at the picture and seeing what was done to make it happen.

As seen in the picture above, Duke Gaines is talking to his mother Joanna while kneeling on the back of his father Chip. I'm not exactly sure if there's a reason this is happening, or it's that trademark goofiness of Chip that keeps filming fun for the whole family. The only other thing I can think of is that Duke needed to be closer to his mother's height for the shot to look right, and Chip had to step in last minute when a box or other device wasn't readily available to make that happen.

As previously mentioned, this was all done for Fixer Upper's return, which has now been titled Fixer Upper: Welcome Home. The revival is set to premiere on Discovery+ Friday, January 29th, with three successive episodes to air as a preview for the couple's upcoming new channel, the Magnolia Network. After that, the series is set to air exclusively there, along with other programming curated or hosted by the Gaines.

As for those wondering where or when they can expect the Magnolia Network to launch, the channel is coming sometime in 2021. Those who subscribe to Discovery+ in the meantime will be able to check out previews of what the network has to offer, including the cooking show Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines. The network ultimately seems branded around the Gaines' increasing brand exposure across all things related to home life, and of course, the fine art of renovation.

All this comes a little over three years after it seemed like Chip and Joanna Gaines were retiring from television. Fixer Upper ended at HGTV right as the family reached peak fame, apparently because the two wanted to focus on raising their children. Flash forward to now and the two have cultivated a brand so huge that there's a channel named after it. You gotta respect the hustle, and I'm sure the network will seemingly re-popularize shiplap in homes not long after launch.

Chip and Joanna Gaines are on their way back to television in the not-too-distant future with a new installment of their popular Fixer Upper series. Now, with their move to the upcoming Magnolia Network, however, the show is Fixer Upper: Welcome Home and features the dynamic duo "back at it." Based on just the content of the trailer for Magnolia Network's Fixer Upper series (seen above), I officially can't wait for what's in store.

The trailer for Fixer Upper: Welcome Home indicates that Chip and Joanna Gaines will more or less be back to business as usual for the fans who have been missing new episodes of the original series, with no wild format changes with the move to Magnolia Network. That's not to say that they won't acknowledge that it's been some time since they were fixing up on Fixer Upper, as Chip Gaines makes clear with the beginning of the trailer, and there were some production changes.

The last episode of Fixer Upper when the series aired on HGTV was back on April 3, 2018, so nearly three years will have passed between that finale and the premiere of Fixer Upper: Welcome Home. The very good news is that the first four episodes of Welcome Home will release on the new discovery+ streaming service starting on Friday, January 29 and continuing with new episodes through Friday, February 19.

The series premiere of Fixer Upper: Welcome Home on January 29 will see Chip and Joanna Gaines helping a newlywed couple update their long-abandoned new house into a stunning home. Subsequent episodes will see Chip and Joanna updating a classic mid-century house for a young professional, helping a first time homeowner update her 1950s home, and redesigning a local shelter for girls. Welcome Home seems like a great welcome into the new year, and returning fans won't have a long wait into 2020 to see the new episodes.

Of course, Magnolia Network (which faced delays in mid-2020) will deliver plenty of content in addition to Fixer Upper: Welcome Home on what was formerly known as DIY Network, and a preview of what's in store will be available on discovery+ beginning in days rather than weeks.

Starting on Monday, January 4, you can find episodes of Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines, The Making of Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines as a special also featuring Chip Gaines, and one episode each of Growing Floret, The Lost Kitchen, Family Dinner, The Fieldhouse, First Time Fixer (with first-time renovators getting a little help from Chip and Joanna), Home on the Road with Johnnyswim, Homegrown, Self Employed, Point of View: A Designer Profile, Restoration Road with Clint Harp, and Super Dad.

In case all of those previews aren't enough, more specials will release on discovery+ as well, including The Courage to Run with Chip Gaines and Gabe Grunewald, Running on Hope, Magnolia Network: A Look Ahead, and Road to Launch. New episodes of Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines will release on January 12 and January 19, leading up to the release of the new Fixer Upper. Even though Fixer Upper won't be among the earliest Magnolia Network releases, there will be plenty of options from the new network over the several weeks before Welcome Home premieres. HGTV fans were stunned a little over three years ago when home renovation superstars Chip and Joanna Gaines announced that they would be leaving both their hit show, Fixer Upper, and the network behind to start their own reality-focused channel, the Magnolia Network. While this new branch of their Magnolia empire is still set to debut in 2021, the couple also revealed late this summer that they would, in fact, be giving fans a new version of their retired series. Now, though, there's a way for Chip and Joanna Gaines to bring fans Fixer Upper, and more, before their network launches.

It was announced that fans of Fixer Upper, who also want to get a good look at some of the offerings from Magnolia Network, will now have the opportunity to do so with Discovery+, the new streaming service which will bring viewers content from the Discovery family of brands. This will mean that over 55,000 episodes from networks like HGTV, Travel Channel, OWN, A&E, History Channel, Lifetime and more, including the upcoming Magnolia Network, will be made available when Discovery+ goes live on January 4, 2021.

And, there will be a lot to choose from when it comes to new content which will find its forever home at Magnolia Network. Not only will Discovery+ subscribers get to watch an exclusive first look at Fixer Upper: Welcome Home (the new iteration of Chip and Joanna Gaines' classic home renovation series), but there will be plenty more from the brand new network to keep people entertained. Fans can also tune in to Magnolia Table, Joanna Gaines' cooking show which features her making some of her favorite dishes and sharing why she loves them and makes them so often.

The Discovery+ first looks will also include Magnolia Network shows Road to Launch (where the Gaineses speak with some of the talent behind their upcoming programming), Courage to Run (a documentary about Chip Gaines training for and finishing his first marathon after becoming inspired by "a fortuitous meeting"), as well as the first episodes from a whopping 10 new Magnolia shows. All of these exclusives will be available to viewers on Discovery+ until Magnolia Network finally launches in the U.S., which will come later in 2021.

Viewers who love Chip and Joanna Gaines will likely be the most excited about being able to tune in to Fixer Upper: Welcome Home when the show hits Discovery+. Fans have been without new episodes of one of the biggest home renovation shows to ever hit television since April of 2018, and while there are plenty of other series where you can watch similar updating antics, we all know that what people really become attached to with shows like this are the personalities at the center.

This Discovery+ first look will give audiences a chance to see what Chip and Joanna Gaines have been cooking up since they left HGTV behind. For years on HGTV Chip and Joanna Gaines let fans in on their workday, but also their charming white farmhouse where the magic of homemaking was always at work. Fixer Upper always felt warm and personal. Now, the two are returning to television with their very own Magnolia Network and bringing Fixer Upper back to boot. Only there will be some changes with the return of the series and one of them is a component to the original series the fans may really miss.

How The New Fixer Upper Will Change On Magnolia Network

If you remember the kids coming around on set to bring Mom takeout for dinner, or the kids running around at home to feed the chickens, getting involved in memorable ways during the original episodes of Fixer Upper themselves, there will be a whole lot less of that moving forward. The reason makes sense though. Joanna Gaines revealed to People that one of the things about the HGTV show that wasn’t working toward the end was the kids wanting to do other things. She noted:

Like any good parent would, Joanna Gaines noticed her kids were less stoked about creating TV moments as the HGTV show was wrapping back in 2018. This time around, her kids are older and more able to make decisions regarding how they want to spend their time; whether or not that will include Magnolia Network remains to be seen. So it makes sense that this change would be made, even if it means losing one of the components that added so much charm the first time around.

Could The Gaines Kids Ever Come Back To Fixer Upper?

Chip and Joanna Gaines do have a system in place that could potentially incorporate their kids should they want to be involved in the new Fixer Upper in more limited doses. It’s their choice to be in the public eye or not. So, there's a chance we may not miss that facet of Fixer Upper completely; yet, it’s definitely going to be a different program moving forward.

While we as fans may miss some of those quiet and intimate family moments, it seems like a better plan for the Gaines family overall. Particularly given that when Fixer Upper was originally wrapping, Chip mentioned it was so they could “step back and take a break” and make sure their family priorities were straight.

Now, there’s a new plan in place and one that will hopefully be flexible for the family and still fun for fans. One thing’s for certain: I’m sure we’ll still get plenty of Chip and Joanna Gaines banter. Magnolia Network is expected to begin its official run in the (hopefully) near future and Fixer Upper will be a part of that lineup. We’ll keep you updated as more details drop, but for now, here’s what’s coming this winter.

Fans were definitely rejoicing and celebrating whenever Chip and Joanna Gaines went public with the news that they're reviving their beloved home renovation series Fixer Upper for their upcoming TV venture dubbed Magnolia Network. Not a lot of details were revealed during that initial announcement, but a casting call went out recently that seemed to indicate how the show's pre-production process is changing up for Season 6.

To be sure, Fixer Upper's homeowner casting call is basically laying out the same kind of stipulations that past notices brought up during the show's run on HGTV. However, it appears Chip and Joanna Gaines (along with other producers) are looking for Waco residents (or those within 30 miles) who have a little more money to put into the renovation process. Now, homeowners will need to have a budget of at least $50,000 that they're willing to put up for whatever redesigns and upgrades Chip and Joanna cook up, according to TMZ.

That uptick in the budget should help make any and all new household additions that much more impressive in comparison with past seasons. For the Season 5 production that took place in 2017, Fixer Upper was only asking applicants to have a $30,000 budgetary baseline for renovations. Inflation likely helped to knock that price up a couple of notches, but let's not forget that Magnolia Network is Chip and Joanna Gaines' brainchild, so there probably isn't as much free-flowing money as there was on an already established channel like HGTV. Plus, they want to make these projects pop as much as possible for the first new episodes in over two years.

Another interesting detail embedded in the Season 6 casting call is that the show is now only considering homeowners who recently closed on buying a new house, or are otherwise already settled into the home they're looking to fix up. Granted, past seasons' casting notices recommended that applicants already be in that finalization process for their homes, but still managed to allow enough wiggle room to play up the legitimacy of the house-hunting portion of episodes.

At this point, it's not clear if Fixer Upper will continue to film the three-house decision process to start up each episode, or if Chip and Joanna Gaines will be eschewing the past format in order to focus more on the renovation than the hunt. Of course, considering house-hunting shows are known to fudge reality in certain ways to keep things interesting for TV, the show might very well stick with its roots despite making certain behind-the-scenes changes.

Beyond all that, applicants also have to agree to give Chip and Joanna Gaines, and the show's production crew, full authority when it comes to making design and renovation decisions. Sure, homeowners can obviously share their opinions and tastes, but the Gaines will have the final say. As well, those who apply are also agreeing to figure out their own alt-housing situation during the renovation process, which can last anywhere from 30-35 weeks.

Will Chip and Joanna Gaines be able to survive the fandom's embrace after Fixer Upper returns to TV via Magnolia Network at some point in the near-ish future? The application process is expected to be completed by September 2020, and you can bet we'll be tuning in to see how the revival looks and feels in its own new home in 2021.

It's somehow been a little over two years since Fixer Upper wrapped up its final episode on HGTV, with creators and stars Chip and Joanna Gaines having left the network in order to start their own design-focused TV empire dubbed Magnolia Network. The channel is gearing up to go wide on televisions across the nation in 2021, and when it does, it will now feature the return of Fixer Upper for a brand new season of shiplap-infused renovations.

While fans were no doubt hoping that Fixer Upper would get renewed life on Magnolia Network, it wasn't quite clear how quickly Chip and Joanna Gaines would be able to dive back into the show that helped turn the couple into household names. (Both in the sense that they're well-known, and that their names might very well be on your household decorations.) Fixer Upper's return was announced both via formal press release from Magnolia, and though a more personal post from Chip Gaines on Magnolia's website. Check out part of that message below, in which he talks about the relatively spontaneous decision to revive the unscripted hit.

While it seemed like putting Magnolia Network together might have created too hectic a schedule for Chip and Joanna Gaines to fall back into the on-screen duties that earned them so many millions of fans to begin with, it looks like the couple just couldn't stay away from the Fixer Upper brand for too long. (Even though the show's long hours are part of what drove them away to begin with.) It definitely makes sense from a business standpoint, considering Fixer Upper has been one of the most popular unscripted TV shows of the past decade, and was bringing in nearly 20 million weekly viewers for its fifth season on HGTV.

Perhaps to be expected, Chip Gaines admitted there is some nervousness attached to returning to the small screen for a new season of Fixer Upper, and he said he and Joanna "feel like a couple of kids trying our best to keep down a few butterflies." And he also said that fans should expect to see a few changes to the show when it returns, since the couple has learned a few things about the way they operate together in the years since the original run ceased production. Here's hoping the personal drama is kept to a minimum.

Magnolia Network also ordered up the new show that's being tentatively titled Self Employed, which features the Fort Worth-based entrepreneur Jonathan Morris as he crosses the country to meet with the most mindful and inspiring small business owners to share stories of undeniable resilience, unstoppable ambitions and how hard it was to reach their dreams. As well, Magnolia ordered up a still-untitled project from interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn, in which he will bring his unique and diverse styles to any kind of decorating project, regardless of how big or small the budget is, as well as how big or small the space is.

At this point, Magnolia Network still doesn't have a specific launch date set in stone (or any other material), but fans can look forward to seeing Chip and Joanna return to TV in a huge way in 2021, with Fixer Upper definitely being part of start-up festivities. Almost two years after the final episode of Fixer Upper aired, you could still make a case Chip and Joanna Gaines are the biggest names in reality television’s home restoration department (sorry to other possibilities there). The couple are still in demand when it comes to interviews. They still have a successful business marketing their sense of style. They’re about to launch Magnolia Network, and reruns of Fixer Upper are still being streamed by adoring fans. No doubt many of those same fans are still clamoring for the couple to make new Fixer Upper episodes, but the couple seems very at peace with their sudden decision to walk away.

Speaking to E! Online in a pretty candid interview, the couple both said it ultimately came down to time or lack thereof. Apparently it felt like they were working “100 hours a week” and like their lives were just a blur. Between doing TV, looking after their real life business and trying to be a family, it got very chaotic. Here’s a portion of Chip’s quote…

In a way, this gets to the heart, I think, of why people connected with and continue to connect with the Gaines family so honestly. They’re very relatable (even if they have their own line at Target), and it feels like they’re always trying to do the right thing. Some of that may be for the cameras, but it’s difficult to fake authenticity. They seem to have it, and their hearts seem to be in the right place.

You also just can’t do everything. That’s a sad fact of life far too many people, both of the celebrity and the not celebrity variety, have discovered. I think those lines get especially blurry for reality stars. Doing the production shoots is one thing, but at some point, all the other less glamorous things about fixing up a house need to get finished too.

It’s a lot of juggling, and in retrospect, that’s a lot of what Joanna Gaines sees. Here’s a portion of a quote from her, as well…

It’s still unclear what form the shows on Chip and Joanna’s network Magnolia will take. We know they will be involved in many in some capacity, but if they want to take time to raise their kids, reconnect as a couple and do other things, then they’ve earned that route. Chip and Joanna Gaines have kept a somewhat lower profile since Fixer Upper ended its popular run on HGTV. But they are definitely still hard at work with their Magnolia Homes brand and the upcoming “new media company” Magnolia Television Network they plan to launch later this year. Sometimes this hardy work means getting their kids involved, even Crew Gaines, the littlest member of their team.

While Chip and Joanna are busy getting their new company together, their littlest one Crew Gaines, who was born in 2018, is already getting big and wanting to help mom and dad around the office. You can see him getting his fax on in the image below.

In the past, Chip and Joanna Gaines have always been happy to show peeks into their personal lives, including moments where the kids are helping with farm animals or recently when their oldest kid went to pick up his driver’s permit. We previously learned the couple will be teaming up with Discovery for the new venture and that the new network will feature the couple starring in their own show once more. The news was a big surprise when it was first announced and subsequently HGTV's head honcho admitted he was even in a state of shock when the couple made the announcement.

One of the original programs on Magnolia Television network will actually revolve around parenthood, with the couple announcing Home on the Road will follow a family who tours as musicians with their kids in tow. So, the family-centric aspect of the Gaines family will bleed into the new network as well.

The new slate of programming is also expected to feature shows related to renovating and design, Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines’ special, but also things like community projects, gardening and even cooking. From the looks of things, it seems as if maybe even little Crew Gaines is bringing ideas to the table. What a boss baby.

After Fixer Upper finished up its run, Chip and Joanna Gaines remained busy. They shared they were expecting their fifth child after announcing the HGTV show was ending. A few months later, they welcomed a new son to their family in July of 2018. Joanna Gaines somehow managed to finish her first book amid all the excitement.

Social media may have been another critical factor as it allowed the couple to keep fans updated on their life post-Fixer Upper. It is because so many people remain invested in Chip and Joanna Gaines’ ever-evolving story that fans will keep staying tuned for more!

It turns out that Chip and Joanna Gaines feared they would not make it before the launch of their HGTV show. The financially rocky period for the do-it-yourself power couple came as the housing market fell into a downward spiral. For the Fixer Upper stars, things became a question of survival.

Chip and Joanna Gaines were talking at Hubspot’s annual INBOUND conference when they opened about those rough times. Fixer Upper premiered in 2013, putting the time frame that Joanna Gaines references occurring around 2008 or 2009. Discussing that problematic period, Joanna Gaines said (via People):

Every Friday, the two were left to wonder if they would make it -- and that went on for four to five undoubtedly exhausting years. That tough spot has given Chip and Joanna Gaines an appreciation for what they have now. They kept pressing, and the determination paid off for the former Fixer Upper duo.

It is not the first time that the couple has opened up about the struggles they endured before finding fame. Joanna Gaines previously discussed the financial issues that filled the early years of their marriage. Little did they know what would eventually await them.

The Gaines’ renovation reality show launched in 2013 and became a massive hit with viewers. It even got a spinoff. The duo found the light at the end of the tunnel and it has shined bright. The brilliant light that awaited them did not mean the couple stopped taking chances.

It's been one year since Chip and Joanna Gaines' Fixer Upper officially left television, and rumors of their return started spreading all over the internet soon after. The Gaines assured audiences that they were intent on taking a break, but now that break may soon be ending so that they can head back to cable television in a big way. The duo have teamed with Discovery, and will have a joint leadership role in their own cable television network takeover set to happen next year.

For their partnership with Discovery, the Gaines are going to bring a new-ish network to television in 2020. This network will actually replace Discovery's DIY Network and, according to USA Today, will likely be branded with some variation of the couple's Magnolia brand. The new venture will also utilize a streaming app.

But what everybody wants to really know is, are the Gaines going to have a new show on their own network? That answer is yes, Chip and Joanna Gaines will have another standalone TV show for fans to get hooked on. This all coincides with news that was hinted at months ago, when the couple first signed on with Discovery.

While they'll be the stars and faces of the network, the Gaines will also hold a minority stake in the channel while serving as its chief creative officers. This means they'll oversee the original programming of the channel, and curate it in a way that reflects their brand. HGTV President Allison Paige will be stepping away from that network to help the Gaines launch their vision, and she promises it will be a channel that focuses on more than just home innovation.

The network also plans to focus on subjects such as family, community, food, and gardening, which really broadens the scope of what's traditionally on DIY. It also sounds on brand with the Gaines, who have expanded their merchandising reach via the Magnolia brand. With their involvement in home goods, food, books, paint, EPA violations, and now television, it's getting increasingly hard to find something these two don't have a hand in!

Discovery wasn't the first network to approach the Gaines about coming back to television, either. Other networks tried to lure them, but it was CEO David Zaslav that won them over. Zaslav has a history of such deals in the past, and famously was the one behind giving Oprah Winfrey her own television network, OWN. With this new television deal, it's possible the Gaines could learn from some of Oprah's early mistakes, and make this network a huge success.

As mentioned, Chip and Joanna Gaines' rebranded version of the DIY network will launch sometime in 2020 with a whole new look, some fresh content, and an original show starring the family. You may not know David Zaslav by name, but the man is the CEO of Discovery, a company that owns multiple TV networks, including HGTV. So, it was a big deal for him when Chip and Joanna Gaines decided they were leaving the HGTV family. The CEO recently revealed he had a moment of panic when he learned the Gaines were exiting Fixer Upper. He said:

It's been more than a year -- can you believe it? -- since we first learned Chip and Joanna Gaines would be ending Fixer Upper after Season 5. Season 5 came and went and suddenly HGTV had lost one of its tentpoles. It was sad for fans. It was certainly stressful for Discovery CEO David Zaslav, and he's now able to admit that to the public just a few months after HGTV head honcho Kathleen Finch bluntly stated there would be no Fixer Upper without Chip and Jojo.

This is likely because it all worked out for Discovery, which also owns HGTV. Just a few short weeks ago, we learned that Chip and Joanna Gaines would be re-partnering with Discovery for a brand new project: their own network.

Chip and Joanna Gaines are partnering with David Zaslav and Discovery to create a new network, which will follow their lives and more. Other than that details are still fairly scarce about what the new channel will entail once it finally comes together.

David Zaslav also revealed to The Wrap it was extremely important the company kept Chip and Joanna Gaines in the Discovery fold, also stating that was part of the reason he was so devastated when the Gaines' decided to fold Fixer Upper. He noted,

Details are still pretty slim related to what the new Gaines-oriented network will look like, but due to existing carriage deals, it's likely that Chip and Joanna Gaines will have to take over a network that is already in play. Discovery actually owns 19 cable channels. Some of them are popular like OWN, Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel and Discovery, but others could potentially be swapped out to make The Fixer Upper Network, or whatever it will be called, a prominent cable channel.

It's been a little over a year since Chip and Joanna Gaines announced they were taking a break from television, and that Season 5 of Fixer Upper would be the final season. Apparently, that break is over. The couple revealed on The Tonight Show that they're heading back to television with a big project that should have many of their fans excited.

Chip Gaines continued on, and announced the family is partnering with David Zaslav and Discovery for an ambitious project that goes beyond the scope of a television show. Gaines said the current talks have revolved around the couple getting their own network that, in addition to the aforementioned footage of the Gaines, will feature family-friendly programming 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That's certainly a lot of television time to dedicate to shiplap!

The Gaines' announcement on The Tonight Show may come as a surprise to Fixer Upper fans, since the family previously said they needed time to focus on their family. One would think launching a network would be a little more time-consuming than a television series, although Chip Gaines noted Discovery's plan "made sense" for their family. As for how that may be, Chip specifically mentioned a bulk of filming will take place in the couple's hometown of Waco, Texas.

The show Chip Gaines specifically teased appeared to imply they'd be doing something different than what they did with Fixer Upper. The fact that viewers will see the family and their children "grow up" may mean the series will focus less on the business side, and more on the Gaines' life with their children. This could mean the couple is doing some sort of reality series that follows their family in-depth, similar to Little People Big World.

As far as other programming that may be on the docket for this potential network, it wouldn't be all that surprising to see old episodes of Fixer Upper in the rotation. While home renovation-themed programming is mostly HGTV's bag, it would make sense if the couple's flagship show is present on a network being built around them. Additionally, Discovery owns HGTV, so securing the rights would presumably be simpler than entering negotiations with a rival network.

There are certainly other Gaines-centric shows the family could create beyond reality television or home renovation as well. The couple are established restaurant owners, and Joanna Gaines' cookbook could mean an original cooking program is a possibility. Considering the success the couple has had turning their home renovation series into an empire with different product lines, one would imagine the sky's the limit with what content the couple could create for viewers.

Fixer Upper was a massive success for the Gaines family and HGTV, with the network posting some of its best ratings while the show was on the air. Given that, it wouldn't have been all that surprising to hear the network wants to reboot the show now that the famous family from Waco, Texas, is taking a break from television. HGTV boss Kathleen Finch recently talked about whether or not the highly rated program could come back with another couple, and quickly squashed all speculation with her response:

HGTV obviously wants big ratings for its shows, but it's apparently not so desperate that it will resort to using the Fixer Upper name to do so. The news is somewhat surprising, especially since the network created several Flip or Flop spinoffs when the original hosts Tarek and Christina El Moussa got divorced. Apparently, the network has a different mindset when it comes to Chip and Joanna Gaines' flagship show, as Kathleen Finch seemed adamant in her view that it was their family that made the show special when she spoke to press at the TCA summer press tour (via The Wrap) .

That's hard to dispute, though, given the success the Gaines family has had with other business ventures outside of Fixer Upper, such as their home furnishings line, restaurant, and book deals. Still, it is surprising the couple walked away from their hit renovation show, especially since they left television in what feels like the height of their fame. Kathleen Finch confirmed HGTV was just as surprised by their exit and were not the ones pushing Chip and Joanna out the door. At the same time, the network wasn't going to try and twist their arm and force them to stay if they didn't want to:

It appears as though those at HGTV don't buy into any of the speculation that the Gaines' left Fixer Upper due to safety concerns or to plan for a television return elsewhere, and that the couple is truly genuine about wanting to focus on their family. Kathleen Finch pointed out that the couple recently welcomed a new child into the family on top of the various ventures they now have a hand in, and that is a lot to handle without the stress of having to do a television show.

Fixer Upper may not be getting a spinoff or new episodes, but repeats can still be seen on HGTV and Hulu. The Gaines family was in hot water with the EPA not that long ago over several safety violations spotted on Fixer Upper, and true to the characters they put forth on the show, Chip and Joanna owned up to it. The couple paid a hefty fine for their lead paint violations, donated a large sum of money to a lead-paint abatement program, and even vowed to make a video instructing on the proper way to remove lead paint from a home. A month later Chip Gaines is on Instagram promoting that video, which is featured on their website:

The tease for the video Chip Gaines posted to Instagram comes at about the midway point, and may just be the most exciting part of this five-and-a-half-minute video. Granted, Fixer Upper and other home improvement shows are typically laid back affairs as far as television is concerned, but at least there's music and some fun to be had along the way. Sadly, that's not the case in this instance, as the music and fun are replaced with talk of government regulations and hard facts on how to keep others safe from potential lead paint contamination.

What's most noticeable about the full video is the demeanor of Chip Gaines, which is a far cry from the jovial guy he was on Fixer Upper. Gaines isn't cracking jokes in this video, as he walks through the process of identifying and removing lead paint in an incredibly deadpan manner. Of course, that may be intentional as the last thing Chip would want to do is make this video seem tongue-in-cheek and anger the EPA enough that it starts poring over more episodes of Fixer Upper in search of safety violations.

Keep in mind this video was not required by the EPA, but proposed by Magnolia Waco Properties LLC as a way of making amends for their safety violations. The video and the Gaines' willingness to fund a program dedicated to removing lead paint from places children stay may have played a factor in the EPA's $40,000 fine, which is substantially lower than the maximum fine of $556,000. While the video might not be the most entertaining thing for a Fixer Upper fan to watch, it's certainly saved the Gaines family quite a hit to their bank account!

The Gaines family are taking a break from television at the moment, and celebrating the recent birth of their new baby boy. The birth may stall the couple's big television return people some have speculated is happening, although the couple has been cryptic about their plans post-Fixer Upper. As the reality TV personality admits, Chip Gaines wears the hospital bracelet he gets when he arrives at the hospital on his arm until it literally falls off. As seen in the photo above, that tradition lives on with the arrival of little baby Crew Gaines.

Joanna Gaines hasn't been shy about showing the newest child in her extended family to her many social media followers. While the boys have all been given "D" names and the girls have all been given names that begin with the letter "E," Crew Gaines is the first Gaines (besides the father, obviously) to receive a name that begins with the letter "C." It's still not entirely clear why the child was given the name Crews, or why the family decided to break this tradition, but we know that it was ultimately Joanna that decided to change it up. While the name Crew isn't quite as common as the ones his brothers and sisters have received, it's still a lovely name -- and, of course, a fitting one, given the family he's now a part of.

Fixer Upper officially ended its run on television earlier this year, but Chip and Joanna Gaines have done a great job of staying in the spotlight ever since. Unfortunately, their latest spotlight grabbing moment isn't a great one as the couple recently settled its dispute with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and were fined $40,000 for broadcasting unsafe home renovation practices on their show. The Fixer Upper family is paying the price after various episodes of the show featured unsafe removal of lead paint in homes the couple remodeled.

The EPA, which first notified Magnolia Homes of its complaint three years ago, reviewed episodes of Fixer Upper for its case and found that while renovating 33 homes for the series, the couple did not take the proper required precautions in removing lead-based paint from walls. The Gaines had multiple violations regarding the removal process, including not properly covering floors and vents from paint chips and violating other statutes in place that are important in renovating homes built before 1978. The EPA reported the Gaines' company, Magnolia Homes, agreed on paying the $40,000 civil fine for the violations and had aired a segment on how to properly remove lead paint in an episode back in March. Chip Gaines also took to Twitter during the episode to provide fans with additional resources regarding the proper way to remove lead-based paint:

The $40,000 fine and news that some Fixer Upper homes weren't being renovated in a safe manner isn't great PR for Chip and Joanna Gaines, although the couple has spun the announcement around rather nicely. In addition to the fine, the Gaines are personally making amends by spending $160,000 on a lead-paint abatement program that will help remove paint from homes and child-occupied facilities in Waco, Texas. The couple will also make a stand-alone video on lead-paint removal and safety within the next 90 days and post it on their homepage and social media for fans to see. It all seems like a lot of effort and a hefty price to pay, although when measured up against the $556,000 in fines the company could've been forced to pay out by the EPA, it's a good trade-off for the Gaines.

But sure enough Chip made it to the finish line, with Joanna documenting the whole thing on her Instagram.

Chip Gaines was one of around 6,000 people participating in the Waco, TX marathon. The high-profile TV personality was competing in the race to provide donations to the Brave Like Gabe Foundation, which is a charity that supports research for rare cancers, while also promoting physical activity in survivors. He was reportdly inspired by the story of Gabriele Grunewald, i.e. Gabe, to participate in the marathon this past weekend. While it was no secret that Chip Gaines was going to be involved in the marathon race, the toolbelt addition wasn't announced beforehand. Once Fixer Upper had come to an end -- the Gaines are currently not set to return for Season 6, though that could always change -- Chip Gaines had a special message for the Twitter folks that were following him during the episode, thanking everyone for their support, and reminding fans that Waco, Texas is just around the corner, relatively speaking.

Of course, with rumors swirling that the largely private couple is already plotting their next big move, perhaps folks should hold off on plotting Waco vacations too quickly. While Chip Gaines brought more finality in his Fixer Upper goodbye, Joanna was quick to assure fans there will still be plenty of ways to keep up with the Gaines family, even if they're off television for a bit. As seen on Twitter yesterday, Chip Gaines announced the exciting baby news with the help of his new friend, Gage. And, drum roll, please... it's a boy!

The Twitter reveal comes shortly after Joanna Gaines was seen sporting the baby bump during the Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Weekend this past Sunday. The parents haven't kept shy about their upcoming baby either. Chip Gaines first announced the pregnancy on his Instagram back in January.

Joanna and Chip Gaines are also the mother and father of 12-year-old Drake, 11-year-old Ella, 9-year-old Duke and 7-year-old Emmie. As noted in the clip above, all the daughters have names beginning with the letter "E," while the names of all the boys all begin with "D." With son number three on the way, Chip and Joanna will have to rake their brains to determine a "D" name for their newest child. Might we suggest Dominic? Or Dylan? Or Demetri?

We're certain they'll figure out in due (date) time. After all, they still have several more months to go. While another baby was in the cards for Joanna Gaines from the get-go, it took Chip time to mentally prepare for their fifth arrival. As noted by Joanna last year, Chip wasn't exactly on the same page at first. Joanna noted that she would "love to have another baby -- or twins!" But Chip thought they were "done." It seems Joanna turned her husband around on the idea, and it's only going to be a matter of months before the reality TV couple brings their fifth child into their well-decorated home.

This baby update comes shortly before they're set to call it quits on Fixer Upper. As it was reported in September, the ongoing fifth season of the HGTV reality program is set to be the last, for reasons that aren't entirely clear. Speculation suggests it's either to focus on raising their family (it's growing, after all) or related to a dispute the reality TV stars had with the network over showcasing their Magnolia Market line of products on their show. While there were rumors that believed it was ending because Chip and Joanna Gaines were splitting up, that's definitely not the case -- as you can see here.

While the popular series is soon set to end, Chip and Joanna Gaines are not staying too far away from the cameras. But medically minded Fixer Upper fans began to worry about the baby, as the ultrasound apparently showed some excess fluid around the fetus. This caused some commenters on the post to freak the hell out, and worry that the baby could have mimic hydrops fetalis, which can sometimes be fatal. Joanna and Chip Gaines certainly have the means for prime medical care, and probably wouldn't have posted the video of the ultrasound if there was any cause for alarm. Still, the Fixer Upper fandom is absolutely rabid, and seems to be obsessing with Joanna's pregnancy the same way they did with the announcement of the show's conclusion.

TMZ helped break this story, and apparently got the perspective of a radiologist, who looked at Joanna's ultrasound. That individual thought the scan might show skin edema, or excess fluid in the child's skin. But more test would be needed to conclusively decide whether or not baby Gaines was healthy.

Just how hardcore Fixer Upper fans are has really been obvious in the past few months, after Chip and Joanna Gaines announced they'd no longer be filming the hit HGTV show after five seasons. This essentially set fans into a frenzy, as they debated and discussed all the litany of reasons why they might be leaving their series. Was it a divorce? Did they have a disagreement with the network?

Ultimately the couple claimed they wanted to step back from TV and fame to focus on their family. And with a baby on the way and four kids already at home, this might be a very smart idea in order for the TV hosts to keep their sanity.

Anyone who watches Fixer Upper knows Joanna is usually the big picture person during the couple's various projects, while Chip is usually the more goofy and fun loving partner.

That silly side of the Gaines' relationship is what made audiences fall so head over heels with the contractors. Their sense of humor can be seen in the above image, which features Chip sticking out his food baby to compete with Joanna's baby bump. They reversed their roles a bit, with Joanna holding onto his stomach and looking lovingly at it. Too bad the only thing in there is whatever Chip had for lunch that day.

Chip Gaines is really hamming it up on social media, following the announcement of Joanna's latest pregnancy. For all the hardcore fans, he recently revealed a bit more about how Gaines baby #5 came to be. Namely, it was a concert by folk duo Johnnyswim. It all was just too romantic, resulting in Chip and Joanne allegedly making whoopie, and another child. He revealed:

The saga continues on the real reason behind why Chip and Joanna Gaines have decided to end Fixer Upper. While the hosts have stated their reasoning for ending the show was to take a break, rumors have surfaced in the past month that there were other, underlying, reasons as to why the two wanted to step away. Now, another crazy reason has surfaced, and while nothing is confirmed, it's being speculated the two walked over disputes with showing their merchandise on the series, and they could be plotting a return to television with a show on another network.

Specifically, Vanity Fair is reporting the rumor that the couple leaving Fixer Upper had come before a dispute with them showcasing their Magnolia Market line of products in the series. Scripps, which has no stake in the Magnolia Market home decor line, apparently didn't want Chip and Joanna Gaines showing their products unless they were to work out some sort of arrangement. Now, the current word is that the Gaines' have met with a few other outlets, and could be planning a return to television much sooner than expected.

Given how detailed television contracts can be, it seems unlikely that Scripps would leave out a section that forbids the couple from doing a new home-improvement show immediately after ending their run wtih Fixer Upper on HGTV. That said, if the contract is limited to home-improvement shows, the Gaines could make the jump to a new network in some different format and presumably hawk their Magnolia Market wares all they want. While the world continues to speculate the Gaines' next move, Magnolia Market director of PR Brock Murphy is sticking to the original story and saying the hosts' leaving had nothing to do with a dispute with Scripps:

The statement appears to be a pretty clear cut shutdown to the rumor, although if it were true, it wouldn't be good PR to change the Gaines' story at this stage. If the Gaines' are planning something behind the scenes, they certainly don't want Fixer Upper fans to know about it, judging by these statements. Of course, it's also completely possible they're telling the truth and are being driven up the wall with these repeated rumors. If that's true, maybe they'll just start a new show to shut everyone up again!

That said, the couple has conceded that one big reason the show is ending is due to the same fears fans had when the couple initially announced the end of the show. Chip Gaines reaffirmed he and his wife's marriage and family are stronger than ever, but admits the couple did wonder if things could change as the show continued:

The Gaines story to Today is only a little different than their official statement they released when they announced the show's end, but it does dispute an anonymous source who said the Gaines family ended the show specifically out of fear for their children's safety. The Gaines didn't address that statement specifically, although Chip Gaines does reaffirm that their children remain one of the most important aspects of their lives-- so that statement still could be true.

One interesting thing to note is that Chip Gaines referred to the end of Fixer Upper as a "break." Usually, breaks are temporary, which almost sounds as though the Gaines family could be plotting their next move into the limelight. Of course, "breaks" have no timetables, and it could also be that the Gaines could be waiting for their last child to leave the house which would mean a very long wait until fans see them on television again. Regardless of when it could happen, it does appear as though the couple is choosing their words very carefully as to not close the door on any future opportunities.

In the meantime, Fixer Upper is slated to air it's final Season 5 in November. Ever since Chip and Joanna Gaines announced the ending of Fixer Upper, folks have been curious as to why. Recently, a rumor has surfaced that the two decided to end the series due to safety concerns for their family, which the two's PR rep responded on behalf of the hosts and said those rumors are false:

The statement, which comes via CBS 8, isn't anything too different than what The Gaines said themselves when they first announced the series was ending. The Gaines family seemed to guess correctly that some would look for a deeper reasoning beyond wanting to spend more time with their family, although at the time they guessed marriage troubles or a fraudulent skincare line would be what tabloids would run with. Now, it appears the Gaines family is looking to get ahead of a rumor that alleges they left the show so that they can better protect their children.

It's been reported this week from an unnamed source that the Fixer Upper family is looking to reduce their celebrity to prevent people from driving by their house and photographing it, and potentially their children. If those rumors are true, it wouldn't be all that surprising that The Gaines would step away from the series to lessen the possibility of any situation that could place their kids in danger, and one could imagine that's a tricky thing to express to diehard fans. At the same time, most people would see that response as reasonable and admirable, so if that rumor was actually true, why wouldn't the Gaines family just admit it?

As far as other controversies the Gaines family could be accused of, there was a family who claimed the Fixer Upper hosts sold them a home in a less than desirable Waco neighborhood without fully disclosing so prior to purchase. There have also been a few other incidents throughout the years, although nothing so scandalous to make someone believe the Gaines have something to hide by ending their show. Still, it is odd that the series is ending so abruptly when it has so many fans.

The news comes via Joanna's blog, in which she and husband Chip addressed their fans and officially announced and explained the end of their home renovation show:

It appears that Chip and Joanna Gaines are trying their best in their blog to dissuade any conversation that Fixer Upper is going away due to any of the drama that has made headlines in the past (and possibly the future), which makes sense, since the announcement kinda came out of nowhere. With Fixer Upper being one of the highest-rated shows in HGTV history and with the network on the verge of losing another big franchise show, the conversation to end the series almost certainly didn't come from the executives. And while it's unfortunate that all involved feel the need to take a break from the spotlight to do some recovery time, the good news out of all this is that there is still one more season of Fixer Upper for fans to enjoy, and it'll debut this November.

Chip and Joanna Gaines also note their spin-off series Fixer Upper: Behind The Design will be returning as well, although it'll presumably also go away after Season 5 of Fixer Upper is complete. While the Gaines appear confident that this chapter in their life is coming to a close, the couple wants fans to know they didn't phone things in for their final season, and they will continue to affirm their renovation-heavy presence in the Waco area:

So is this the beginning of goodbye to the Gaines family? A house featured on the hit HGTV series Fixer Upper was totally hit by a drunk driver, and it did some considerable damage. Ken and Kelly Downs were sleeping in their renovated home in Waco, Texas when 31-year-old Allen Wayne Miller's car went airborne and collided into the home. Now, more details are coming out about the event, and the damage that was done to the renovated home.

The house, which was featured on Season 3 episode 12 of Fixer Upper, had damage done to an exterior wall as well as the interior wall of a front office. Witnesses first on the scene said Allen Wayne Miller went airborne and cleared the raised patio from the lawn on his way into the home. Once aware, witnesses say Miller attempted to start the car to exit the house and had to be restrained to attempt from fleeing the scene of the accident. The incident happened around 1:20 a.m. in the morning and Miller was arrested under the suspicion of drunk driving.

Both Ken and Kelly Downs are uninjured but have indicated to the Waco Tribune-Herald that they feel deceived by Magnolia reality, which is co-owned by Chip Gaines. The Downs say they've received threats in the past year from neighbors complaining about higher tax rates, and that crime has been an issue in the neighborhood. The Downs allege that Magnolia made no indication that the neighborhood was unsafe, and seem to partly hold them responsible for the situation.

This might be the reason why both Chip and Joanna Gaines have been silent about the misfortune of the Downs now a week removed from the incident. Neither host of Fixer Upper has issued a comment or referenced the event on their social media, and with allegations that their reality company deceived the homeowners regarding the safety of the location, it doesn't seem likely that they will. The issues with the neighborhood are apparently so bad for Ken and Kelly Downs that the couple hasn't decided whether they will repair the home or simply move out. While the Downs have taken aim at the Gaines for putting them in a less than desirable neighborhood, they also are pointing the finger at the city of Waco, Texas, for not doing enough to curb crime in the area. Waco police indicated that crime is not any higher or lower in the Downs neighborhood than any other part of the city.

Fixer Upper is currently airing episodes of Season 4 Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on HGTV. Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines of HGTV's Fixer Upper might be ready "to renovate" their family and "put on an addition" with a fifth child. In a recent interview, Joanna Gaines explored the idea of expanding her family with another son or daughter. According to the 39-year-old home remodeler, she and her husband have talked about the prospect of more kids. She stated how happy she would be to have a fifth child. Chip Gaines, on the other hand, might not be keen on the idea. Joanna Gaines explained, saying,

Wow, Joanna Gaines would be happy with not one but two more children; meanwhile, her husband is content with four. Currently, the Gaines have a 12-year-old son, Drake Gaines, a 10-year-old daughter, Ella Gaines, a nine-year-old son, Duke Gaines, and a seven-year-old daughter, Emmie Kay Gaines. How the Gaineses find time to manage a household with four children is incredible enough. Adding one---or two---more children sounds like an enormous challenge.

But if anyone could meet the challenge, it would be the Gaineses. It seems like the industrious couple thrives when most busy. In addition to having the most popular show on HGTV, the Gaineses also have a spinoff called Behind the Design. Plus, they have an empire of businesses in Waco, Texas. They own a retail center, and they have a vacation rental home. Now they are preparing to open a breakfast restaurant in Waco once they finish restoring the historic building where it will go. So, adding more children to the mix might not be such a difficult matter for them.

In the interview with People, Joanna Gaines suggests her youngest child, Emmie Kay, gave her a sign that another baby could be on the way one day. Apparently, Emmie Kay never wanted a younger brother or sister until recent times. Joanna Gaines said her daughter's new opinion could be a sign the Stork might return. But Chip Gaines joked,

The Gaineses previously told the magazine they enjoyed looking back at the days before the kids, the business empire, and the hit reality television show. They had no money then, but they were as happy then as they are now. Perhaps that sound basis of happiness and love is the secret to their 14-year marriage and how they can continue building their empire and family.

If the Gaineses do decide to have another child, it would be interesting to see them working on all of their projects while preparing for a new bundle of joy on Fixer Upper. We'll have to stay tuned to see what they decide.

For most people who are familiar with it, Fixer Upper is a fun, light-hearted and informative series about finding just the right home to reinvent in a homeowner's image. For others, such as Chip Gaines' former business partners, the show represents a big middle finger in the form of a dollar sign. John L. Lewis and Richard L. Clark, who co-founded Magnolia Real Estate Company with Gaines, are suing the reality TV star for over $1 million in damages and financial restitution.

The allegations here aren't very complicated, but they're quite damning if revealed to be true. According to the lawsuit that was filed this week in Waco's state district court (via KTWX), John Lewis and Richard Clark claim that back in 2013, at a point when Magnolia Real Estate was largely Waco-based and employed a lone real estate agent, Chip Gaines made a deal to buy out the other men's shares of the company for $2,500 each. The litigious side here is that Gaines was allegedly making the Fixer Upper deal with HGTV on the side, without Lewis or Clark's knowledge, and the manner in which this went down also sounds very sketchy.

According to the lawsuit, Chip Gaines made a very strong push for the buyout to go down under those circumstances, and when Richard Clark didn't initially give in, John Lewis allegedly received a text from Gaines that said to pass along an ominous message of "Be careful," to Clark. Here's what else the text said, according to the plaintiffs.

Chip Gaines isn't the only one on the receiving end of the lawsuit, either, as they also call out Magnolia Realty itself, Scripps Networks Interactive, Scripps Networks LLC, and production company High Noon Entertainment. The money being sought out would include sale rescission or fair value of the company with interest, payment of salaries, as well as any other kinds of bonuses or payments they would have received had they stayed on as partners during Fixer Upper's rise to spinoff-producing fame.

From the plaintiffs' side of things, it sounds like some pretty shady business went on, especially since Magnolia Realty has turned into a nationwide company with dozens of real estate agents, but it's obviously for the judge to decide. This isn't the first lawsuit that the Gaines family has faced in recent months, either, though it's of a much different nature.

That said, viewers don't get to see every single room in the renovated houses, and Joanna Gaines has finally come out to explain why, saying this:

As it turns out, episodes don't hide the rest of the rooms because the Gaines' didn't finish the work or because the rooms don't look as good as the rest of the house; Joanna Gaines' reveal to People that the rooms are cluttered with supplies means that they were just too full of stuff to give the full picture to the camera. As somebody who has been known to cram way too much stuff into way too small of a closet when I clean, I can definitely relate to Joanna's desire to keep eyes on the most aesthetically appealing spaces of the renovated homes.

Joanna Gaines revealed the secret of the rooms kept off-camera while preparing to launch the new Fixer Upper spinoff for HGTV, which has been titled Fixer Upper: Behind the Design. The spinoff is set to give viewers' behind-the-scenes access that doesn't usually come in episodes of Fixer Upper. It will put a special focus on the design process, going into how Joanna uses her sense of style and sensibilities to update old homes to 21st century stylistic standards.

This new series will focus on the design process and how Joanna uses her savvy style, shiplap, and smarts to bring old homes into the 21st century. The episodes will be meant as a 30-minute companion to new Fixer Upper episodes. That's a full hour and a half of the Gaines family, which may seem like a lot, but there's a good reason.

Chip and Joanna Gaines have been popular among the HGTV audience with their latest Season 4 already netting over 20 million total viewers (across all metrics, presumably). Despite some drama the couple has had in the past year, the Gaines have shifted into the role of the network's top family in lieu of the divorce of Tarek and Christina El Moussa. The El Moussas host another popular series on the network, Flip Or Flop, which is also branching out with multiple new spin-offs in other cities, though the flagship show's return still up in the air. It seems like a good move to shift the spotlight to Chip and Joanna, who've won an audience with their family dynamic and cute couple antics. How that family manages to not crack under the pressure of constant home renovation and a large family, I'll never know! Let's hope Fixer Upper: Behind The Design isn't the straw that breaks the camel's back.

While there is no official start date for Fixer Upper: Behind The Design, HGTV tells fans they can get a sneak peek at the new series on March 28th at 11 p.m. ET. That's a little later than when I typically watch my home shows, but as far as couples television right before bed, it sounds like an A+ choice. Fixer Upper normally airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on HGTV. HGTV is currently one of the biggest cable networks out there, and this has led to more scrutiny regarding the personal lives of the reality TV personalities that help the cable network to bring home the bacon. Possibly the most popular of these personalities are Chip and Joanna Gaines, the lively two leads of Fixer Upper who had to deal with a mini controversy when a Buzzfeed writer tried to connect the outspoken and anti-gay beliefs of the pastor of the church the Gaines' attend with the Gaines' own personal beliefs. In the days following the release of the rather pointed article, the Gaines mostly stayed quiet about how they really feel, personally, but now Chip Gaines has finally addressed what happened and how they are moving forward.

In a pretty lengthy and open article that can be found on the website for the couples' popular Magnolia Market, Chip Gaines explains that he and his wife know that the past year has been difficult for a lot of folks. He also says that he and his wife are often not on the same page about particular issues, and that if he and his wife can't always agree, he understands it would be nearly impossible for people around the country and the world to be on the same page. However, he also says the situation isn't hopeless.

The original article, which went up several weeks before Chip's response, has taken some flack since it was posted, mostly because it really stretches to try to make connections between what the Gaines' believe and what their pastor has stated in public and then it tries to connect those two ideas to the fact that HGTV itself may not be doing enough for the LGBT community. The cable network has already made a statement that notes the channel does not discriminate against anyone by sexual orientation, and that seemed to be the end of the matter for a time. However, it seems Chip simply took his time crafting a response before he got out what he and Joanna really feel.

Despite the fact HGTV has been dealing with some Flip or Flop drama thanks to the couples' high profile split in recent weeks, HGTV is doing rather well with its business model. The company opted to pull content from Netflix this month hoping to make more moolah, which makes sense, because as it turns out HGTV spends a ton of money to produce new content each year. The amount? $400 million.

That's right, HGTV spends $400 million a year to create content for viewers, which includes stuff like new episodes of Fixer Upper, Property Brothers and Love It or List It. That's a lot of money spent on unscripted content, especially when you consider that Netflix spent only $100 million more in the past year (aka $500 million) to produce its original shows, including more expensive scripted content.

However, this is where the numbers get a little tricky. While Netflix spent $500 million to produce a whopping 600 hours of television, HGTV was able to stretch its budget--assumedly thanks to the unscripted aspect--to 900 hours of brand new programs in 2016. That's more than 900 individual episodes of TV, as a lot of HGTV's programming is half-hour content. It's also more programming than a lot of people watch in a whole year. And we wonder why our cable bill is so high...

Still, it's a concept that is certainly paying off for the network. This year, HGTV came in third among the cable networks in terms of overall viewership. The other two cable channels were Fox News and ESPN. The former is not a shock at all considering its ratings, but since ESPN has seen its viewership slip somewhat, we're a little more surprised about that network also crushing. Still, putting HGTV against the likes of those seemingly much more prominent networks.

Per Bloomberg, what has set HGTV apart is its programming, programming that tries to be pleasant and not get too intense. Sure you may see couples have a few arguments on the network's shows, but people aren't discussing politics or living paycheck to paycheck. In addition, there's no violence, profanity or other foul comments on these TV shows, and the HGTV audience, at least, seems to appreciate that. CEO Ken Lowe told the outlet:

We don't often get a ton of insight into how much networks are spending to please their audiences, and today's information is some nice insight, at the very least, although it's a little surprising to consider how much shows that we presume are made on a relatively small budget still cost. The day is finally coming. We learned a few short months ago that HGTV had not reached a new deal with Netflix, which meant some big shows would be leaving the streaming service. Today Netflix announced that the first two seasons of Fixer Upper that are currently available on the streaming service will not be there much longer. Fixer Upper is leaving Netflix on January 1.

The announcement was made by Netflix today, and also happens to mention quite a few other shows that are leaving the streaming service, unfortunately including Saved by the Bell and Murder, She Wrote. A 30 for 30 documentary is out, as well. Other popular HGTV series Property Brothers is also saying goodbye to the streaming service, although that show doesn't currently have the same buzz that Chip and Jojo have been bringing in with Fixer Upper. All in all, we really hope you weren't in the middle of binge-watching any of these shows.

Netflix has always lost some movies and TV shows each month, but there have been a lot of additional TV programs leaving the streaming service recently. Netflix has been spending its budget producing a slew of originals across a variety of genres, including dramas, comedies, movies, comedy specials, documentaries and more. With so many new programs hitting the schedule each week, it's easy to see why Netflix would have to trim the fat elsewhere; it's just unfortunate that means some really great shows and movies have to go.

In fact, a lot of them have gone. In recent months, we've said goodbye to Chuck, Psych and more popular TV shows. The recent announcement from HGTV and Netflix regarding the non-renewal of a deal also relayed that its not just HGTV shows that will be leaving the streaming service. We also learned that DIY programs, as well as shows from Food Network, the Travel Channel and the Cooking Channel will also be disappearing from Netflix in 2017. This means that stuff like Food Network Star and Worst Cooks in America are also out as part of the new deal.

In the case of Fixer Upper, the home renovation series started airing its fourth season in November, so there are plenty of episodes of the show that were not on Netflix to begin with. Chip and Joanna Gaines have become HGTV superstars ever since their show Fixer Upper hit the airwaves back in 2013, and the husband and wife work together to remodel and redesign homes that were/are in desperate need of repair. Throw in their adorable children their lovable little menagerie of animals, and Fixer Upper is a wonderfully charming series. Unfortunately for the Gaines' family, one man isn't quite so charmed by the project-oriented family. In fact, he's suing them for a million dollars as part of a property dispute.

The dispute started at the Gaines' Magnolia Market design store in Waco, Texas, which is housed across an alley from a company called Head Properties, where plaintiff Daron Farmer is a managing member. Farmer has owned a parking lot (accessible via alley) ever since he bought the Head Properties building back in July, but a pre-existing lease agreement allowed Magnolia Market employees and customers to park there. The lease expired on a Friday, according to the Waco Tribune-Herald, without Farmer and Chip Gaines having come to an agreement about a new lease. On the next Monday morning, Farmer alleges that Gaines put up a gate across the alley to restrict access to the parking lot.

According to Daron Farmer, he had planned to begin charging Magnolia customers $10 for parking in the lot, and the lawsuit claims that Chip Gaines prevented customers from parking there by blocking the primary entrance with the gate. Farmer is seeking between $200,000 and $1 million in damages from Gaines. He also asked that Gaines be compelled to take down the gate, but a judge refused the request.

The timing was unfortunate for Chip and Joanne Gaines. Their annual Magnolia Market Silobration festival kicked off the weekend after the alley mess started. The three-day festival drew large crowds to check out the vendors, entertainment, and Gaines family of Fixer Upper, so they had a lot going on without a lawsuit popping up. Of course, the huge crowds for the Gaines' event could have also meant a big profit for Daron Farmer if he had full access to his lot and could have charges $10 per car.

That said, the attorney for the Gaines' family argued that the blocked alleyway doesn't actually prevent customers from entering the parking lot and theoretically paying to park there. The gate only blocks one way for cars to get into the lot. Drivers can just drive around the corner and enter from another side. The gate is evidently inconvenient to Daron Farmer -- although he might change his tune if it wins him $200,000 to $1 million -- but it doesn't cut off access to the lot entirely.

Chip and Joanna Gaines have faced hardships in the past and come out ahead, so we'll have to wait and see how they handle being sued for a million dollars.
