When I saw Crime 101, Chris Hemsworth’s first release on the 2026 movie schedule (Doomsday is coming), I was disappointed. I love a great heist movie, and I was excited for this, thinking it’d be a really fun popcorn chomper of an action flick. I wrote about how I thought it was a little too long, owing mostly to a somewhat pointless love story, and I thought the movie was full of silly tropes and lazy plot devices (plus a one-car car chase that was kind of ridiculous).

Then I started seeing a bunch of reviews from critics and fans alike who really liked the movie. The Rotten Tomatoes score kind of blew my mind. It’s currently sitting at 89% on the Tomatometer and 85% on the Popcornmeter. What in the world did I miss here? What were other people seeing that I wasn’t? I had to watch it again, so I fired up my Prime Account, where it is currently streaming, and gave it another shot.

My Opinion Hasn’t Changed

As anyone can relate, sometimes when you see a movie for the first time, you’re in the wrong mood for the movie, or you’ve got other things on your mind. Sometimes a first impression is a bad one. My most notable experience with that was seeing The Big Lebowski in theaters when it was released in 1998. I hated it. It’s now perhaps my favorite movie of all time. I didn’t expect the same thing to happen with Crime 101, but given how much some people really liked it, I felt I owed it a second chance.

So after watching this weekend, I came away from it with the exact same feelings as I had the first time. It’s a trope salad that looks slick, but just under the surface, it feels hollow. The love story between Hemsworth’s character, Mike/James, and Maya (Monica Barbaro) is still pointless. The dialogue is still stilted and shallow. The cat-and-mouse game between Mike and Sharon (Halle Berry) still didn’t get me excited, and Barry Keoghan’s character Ormon still feels unnecessarily psychotic.

All The Pieces Are There For A Really Fun Movie, But…

On paper, this movie should work, and I think it should work for me. I think it’s the perfect kind of role for Hemsworth, and, frankly, the whole cast is in roles that work really well for them. Mark Ruffalo as a down-and-out-but-brilliant detective is right up his alley. Nick Nolte as the grizzled veteran thief is also a fantastic role for him. But none of it really works for me.

As I said, it’s slick, some of the stunt work is wonderful, and I like the general story, but it never gelled. There is just something off about it. It might just be me (in fact, it clearly is, given the Rotten Tomatoes score), but it’s not going to end up on my list of best heist movies, and it really has been yearning for the next big heist movie on my radar, Michael B. Jordan’s remake of The Thomas Crown Affair. I’m hoping for big things from the Oscar-winner!

It’s become a common refrain with movies over the last few years that films that struggle in theaters frequently become big hits once they arrive on streaming platforms. The latest example of this trend has arrived on Prime Video as the heist drama Crime 101, which failed at the box office despite a strong critical reception, is now killing it at home.

Crime 101 Is The Number One Movie In the World On Prime Video

Crime 101 only debuted on Prime Video on April 1st, but the film, which stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Halle Berry, is already the top streaming movie globally on the platform and the number two movie in the United States. It’s just the latest case of audiences clearly “waiting for streaming” when it comes to theatrical releases that people clearly want to see, but not quite enough to go to the theater.

Crime 101 stars Chris Hemsworth as a thief who teams up with an insurance investigator, played by Halle Berry, to work a major job. Mark Ruffalo is the police detective trying to stop them. Over the course of the film, the cast of characters travels through LA trying to pull off their respective plans, and it turns into one intense crime thriller.

Overall, it seems that those who are watching Crime 101 are likely enjoying themselves. The movie was well reviewed by critics, many of whom compared it favorably to Heat. The film has an 89% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes alongside an equally impressive 85% audince score, indicating that while a lot of people didn’t go to theaters to see it, those who did liked it.

Crime 101’s Road To Success Is Only Becoming More Common

Not every movie that flops in theaters becomes a success on streaming, but a lot of the films that are successful on streaming struggled theatrically first.

It’s clear that audiences still want to see these movies, but many are simply unwilling, for whatever reason, to go see every movie in a theater. Whether it’s a general dissatisfaction with the theatrical experience or a feeling that only certain types of movies are “worth it,” it’s far from uncommon to see character dramas like Crime 101 have a hard time at the box office. Seeing those sorts of films succeed in theaters has become the exception, not the rule.

At the end of the day, there’s certainly some value in the movie finding a way to get in front of eyeballs. People make movies to be seen, and as long as they get seen somehow, that’s worthwhile. At the same time, the continued failure of these sorts of movies in theaters is only going to lead to fewer of them being released in theaters, and potentially fewer of them being made at all, which would be tragic.

However, thankfully, Crime 101 seems to have found its audience, and you can stream it now on Prime Video.

I’ve been a fan of Mark Ruffalo for essentially my whole life, and I’ve realized recently that he really loves to play a cop or someone who works in law enforcement. In the last year alone, he did it in the beloved series Task (which you can stream with an HBO Max subscription) and the film on the 2026 movie schedule, Crime 101. I’m not the only one who has picked up on this, either, and when CinemaBlend interviewed Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry, who worked with Ruffalo on Crime 101, they told us why he’s so good at playing a cop.

Honestly, the list of movies and shows where the actor has played a cop is long and has range. From Task to Crime 101 to Now You See Me to Zodiac, his filmography related to law enforcement runs the gamut. So, when CinemaBlend’s Hannah Saulic spoke to Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry, she asked them about their co-star’s tendency to play a cop. Here’s how they responded:

Now, let’s break all this down. In response to the question about what makes Ruffalo so good in this kind of role, Hemsworth explained:

I can totally see what he’s saying here. If Mark Ruffalo is on my screen, I want to trust him. And that level of trust always ups my interest and investment in what his characters are doing. So, if he’s playing a cop, detective or agent, I’m more inclined to be interested in him and his success with an investigation (whether his character is in the right or not).

In the case of Crime 101, where he played detective Lou Lubesnick, it was obvious that he believed in what he was doing, and that determination made his story more compelling. That’s because he got quite a bit of pushback for his investigation; however, despite everything, he stuck to his guns, and it did lead him eventually to Hemsworth’s thief, Mike.

Along with Hemsworth’s initial response, both the Thor actor and Halle Berry agreed on another quality Ruffalo has in spades, saying:

• Halle Berry: He cares.
• Chris Hemsworth: He cares, yeah.

Elaborating on that point, Berry said it’s nice to see someone who cares and wants to do what’s best on screen. That’s an energy Ruffalo brings, according to her, as she said:

Well, whether he’s playing a genuinely good cop or a morally complex agent, his care is evident. That’s clear on screen in Crime 101, too.

So, yeah, Mark Ruffalo is really good at playing cops, and I hope he continues to do it too. Crime 101 got pretty good reviews, and projects like Zodiac and Task are staples in his filmography. Clearly, he’s fantastic at this, and Hemsworth and Berry helped us define just why that’s the case.

When Halle Berry dropped by The Drew Barrymore Show while promoting Crime 101, which was released on the 2026 movie schedule this past weekend, the daytime show took fan questions. One burning query that came up is whether Berry still has her orange bikini from Die Another Day. Here’s what Berry had to say:

The answer led to an eruption of cheering over her answer. And, Barrymore said this:

It certainly makes us wonder where she keeps it. Is it casually in the back of her closet or in some kind of display case in her home? Berry didn’t elaborate, but knowing it’s still in her possession is pretty awesome.

When the movie celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2022, Berry shared the scene and got honest about how she was “freezing [her] butt off” when Jinx got out of the water. It was a real “acting challenge” for her to pretend the water was warm.

She has also gushed about how much she genuinely loved working with James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan on the film as his Bond girl. She said that he “restored [her] faith in men” in the movie and he was a “true gentleman”.

These days, Berry can often be seen rocking a bikini on her social media often to destigmatize what being over 50 looks like. Recently, she’s been campaigning for better support and education for women around menopause with her health platform Respin. She’s called the “best part of menopause” being a time where she doesn’t give “a f--k” about other people’s opinions and can “move” how she wants to through life.

The President’s Day Weekend was a big one at the box office, as it often is, but in many ways it was quite unusual. We saw three significant films open on the same day: Wuthering Heights, GOAT, and Crime 101. They were three very different films for three very different audiences, and while Wuthering Heights took home the box office crown, Crime 101 star Halle Berry is still celebrating her movie’s big opening.

Crime 101 opened in third place at the domestic box office, with only $16 million compared to Wuthering Heights ' $35 million. However, while the heist movie starring Halle Berry, Mark Ruffalo, and Chris Hemsworth may not have been seen by quite as many people, the people who have seen it seem to prefer it to Wuthering Heights. Halle Berry took to Instagram to celebrate the film’s Rotten Tomatoes success.

Crime 101 is officially a “Certified Fresh” movie, with a critics' score of 87%, slightly better than the still rock solid 84% score given by audiences. Both these numbers are far better than Wuthering Heights, which is far more divisive among critics, with a 60% score, and a 79% score among the audience.

Berry’s Instagram Stories are currently full of individual social media and Letterboxd reviews from a variety of people who saw Crime 101 and are singing its praises. The actress is certainly doing her part to raise the profile of the movie, and that, alongside the solid reviews, might help elevate the film’s box office in the weeks to come.

Crime 101 honestly feels like a movie from a different era. It’s not a franchise; it is based on a book, but for many, it likely appears to be a completely original film. Its primary selling point is its star power, like Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry. It’s exactly the sort of movie that we don’t tend to see in theaters as much anymore, which is likely why the box office wasn’t better over the opening weekend.

To be fair, since Crime 101 is an Amazon MGM production, the box office probably isn't seen as the major focus of the film. While box office numbers are always good, odds are there will be a much bigger promotional push when your Prime Video subscription gives you access to the film in a few months.

The fact that Crime 101 is, by all accounts, a really good movie, will certainly help it find an audience eventually. If people don’t go to the theater, they could find it on VOD or on streaming. Of course, if the movie does continue to struggle at the box office, it almost certainly means that films like this, will only continue to dwindle and find homes elsewhere. If they’re made at all, that is.

Halle Berry is a beloved movie star known for her roles in major movies like James Bond the X-Men films and John Wick. But, she’s noticed lately she’s being defined a lot more for being a woman over 50. The A-list let people know it in a recent interview, as she specifically called out those who reference her age when talking about her physical appearance.

While promoting her latest movie. Crime 101, with Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry took part in a segment with ScreenTime. As part of the game, the trio of stars took turns reading comments from fans. When one of Berry’s reads “Omg Halle does NOT age! Hard to believe she’s 59! Just Gorgeous!” the actress had this to say:

Obviously, the comment was meant to be a compliment toward Halle Berry, who has aged gracefully over the years. But, as the 2002 Oscar winner pointed out, she has noticed that there’s often an uneven amount of talk about how old she is, especially when you compare the comments made around her co-stars. Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth got behind their co-star as she pointed out the frequent talk of her age compared to her male counterparts. Both of the leading men are also over 40 ( Hemsworth is 42 and Ruffalo is 58) and apparently don’t receive constant mentions about about how good they look for their age. What’s up with that?

Berry thinks it’s sexism and, while the commenter probably didn’t mean to perpetuate that, it’s a good point underlying the double standards in Hollywood between men and women. In the video, the Bruised star thanked the commenter for the compliment despite being troubled by the trend. And Ruffalo even pointed out how Berry had just talked to him about how common it was for her name and age to often come up together.

Halle Berry is always exuding confidence on her socials, such as the time she posted a photo of herself in a black bikini while on vacation and made an empowering comment. At the time, she said, “We have to get older, but we don’t have to get old”. In another instance, Berry also posted a photo of herself hanging out on a balcony nude, with the caption “i do what i wanna do.” She also ended up clapping back at a commenter who said she was too old to be posting pics of her naked body.

Honestly, good for Halle Berry for bringing this up. The actress has been honest before about being in her “don’t give a f*ck” phase of life where she’s saying, moving and wearing what she wants, and moments like this show she’s walking the walk. Recently, she even got honest about the time she told off X-Men director Bryan Singer, saying “that guy deserved it.” In regard to beauty standards and sexism, I wouldn't be surprised if Berry continued to call it out as she sees it.

Years before shared universes like the MCU and DCEU were launched, the X-Men movies were among the few film series helping to popularize the superhero film genre. Bryan Singer directed the first two installments, then later returned for Days of Future Past and Apocalypse. That means he’s worked with Halle Berry three times, but it wasn’t always smooth sailing with them. The Storm actress clashed with Singer on several occasions, and she most recently recalled confronting him during the filming of X2: X-Men United.

Halle Berry has making the press rounds with Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo to promote their new 2026 movie Crime 101, which is now playing in theaters. In their interview with EW, she was asked if she ever had a chance to stand up for herself in real life reminiscent of what her Crime 101 character does in a crucial scene (no spoilers here). Berry brought up when she told Bryan Singer “just where to go and how to get there” while working on the second X-Men movie, continuing:

Halle Berry didn’t provide any specific details about what happened during this confrontation, though it was clearly a fulfilling experience for her. However, back in 2020, it was reported that she and other actors on X2: X-Men United came to Singer and threatened to quit if producer Tom DeSanto, who called for production to be paused after Hugh Jackman was injured while performing a stunt, was removed from the set. Nightcrawler actor Alan Cumming also recalled how Berry told Singer he could “kiss my Black ass” after he was angered over the cast members confronting him.

After Halle Berry recalled this moment during the Crime 101 interview, Mark Ruffalo said it was the “best story,” to which she said:

Halle Berry isn’t the only X-Men actor who’s had issues with Bryan Singer, even ignoring the multiple lawsuits claiming he sexually assaulted minors. Olivia Munn, who played Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse, detailed her struggles with Singer stemming from his lengthy absence during the middle of filming. Sophie Turner, who played Jean Grey in the same movie, said her time working with the director was “unpleasant,” and Mystique actress Jennifer Lawrence mentioned him once while talking about the “emotional men” and “biggest hissy fits thrown on set” she’s seen working on movies.

Bryan Singer hasn’t directed a movie since 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody, although he was replaced late in the production by Dexter Fletcher due to repeated absences and conflicts with the cast and crew. As for Halle Berry, although she won’t reprise Storm in Avengers: Doomsday, she is set to team up with Djimon Hounsou in the thriller Red Card.

This year has already seen some great leading duos in action movies with The Rip (Ben Affleck and Matt Damon) and The Wrecking Crew (Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa). Up next on that list is Thor vs. The Hulk, or rather an American-accented Chris Hemsworth vs. Mark Ruffalo in Crime 101. The plot sounds like your typical heist movie (i.e. hella fun), and critics who were able to catch early screenings are weighing in as the crime thriller hits the 2026 movie calendar on February 13.

The cast of Crime 101 is very promising, with Halle Berry playing an insurance broker who gets caught up in jewel thief Mike Davis’ (Hemsworth) crimes, as Detective Lou Lubesnick (Ruffalo) closes in. Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Nolte and more will also make appearances, and Damon Wise of Deadline says they don’t disappoint:

Ben Travis of Empire rates the movie 3 out of 5 stars, saying it’s “solidly enjoyable and well-constructed.” However, the movie is aptly titled, because for all of its slick presentation and impressive cast, Travis says, Crime 101 struggles to go beyond the basics. The critic continues:

Kristy Puchko of Mashable calls Crime 101 — an adaptation of the novella of the same name in Don Winslow’s 2020 collection Broken — a "competent" crime thriller, shining with star power and “stellar” car chases, with enough twists to keep audiences on their toes. In comparison to Bart Layton’s past projects, however, there’s something missing. Puchko writes:

Ryan Lattanzio of IndieWire gives the movie a B-, calling it “far from terrible,” especially thanks to Halle Berry and Mark Ruffalo. However, in expanding the novella’s story, Bart Layton adds some unnecessary ingredients to the pot, the critic says, “with characters intersecting and allegiances and motivations often contradicting one another.” Lattanzio concludes:

Clint Gage of IGN gives the upcoming action movie an “Okay” 6 out of 10, saying it has everything a heist thriller ought to have, but not much else. There are interesting ideas at play throughout the film, Gage writes, that get swapped out in service of a less-compelling plot. The critic continues:

Of all the critics’ assessments that I went through, most of them seem middling, praising the director’s portrayal of Los Angeles and providing fun action scenes. And despite the stellar cast doing apparently solid work, there’s still the feeling that critics were left wanting something more in terms of originality.

Either way, Crime 101 has been Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with 87%, so it would seem that the good outweighs the bad. If this crime thriller sounds like a fun way to spend two-plus hours, you can catch it in theaters now, as of February 13.

In Crime 101, mindfulness and meditation are a surprisingly big part of the story. So, in the lead up to the project’s release on the 2026 movie schedule, we asked Halle Berry about mantras and manifestation and how it's worked in her life. In response, she shared how she and her partner, Van Hunt, happened through manifestation and lots of sticky notes.

As the Crime 101 trailer makes clear, this movie is an action-packed crime caper. However, there’s a throughline of a character listening to affirmations and meditations throughout the movie. So, CinemaBlend’s Hannah Saulic asked Halle Berry about it during an interview for the movie. After Saulic specifically wondered if the actress had a morning mantra of her own, the X-Men star enthusiastically said she did, and recalled how she totally manifested her relationship with Van Hunt:

A few years ago, Berry spoke about manifesting Hunt by explaining that she got really “intentional” with what she wanted in a partner. The two made their relationship public in 2020, and for the past six years, they have made their adoration for each other abundantly clear. Just take a look at what she posted while hyping up her “man’s music,” and you’ll see what I mean.

However, going back to Berry’s manifestation period before Van Hunt, she told CinemaBlend that she got very detailed about what she wanted in a man, and after four years of writing sticky notes about him, he appeared:

Over the years, Berry has made it clear that people should “never settle” when it comes to their relationships. And that’s what this story reiterated. After her first comment, where she explained how she totally manifested Van Hunt into her life, her Crime 101 co-star, Chris Hemsworth and Saulic had the following back-and-forth with the Oscar-winner:

• Hannah Saulic: I need to do that. That's amazing.
• Halle Berry: It just took a long time.
• Hannah Saulic: I’m like, 'Four years!?'
• Halle Berry: It did take four years, so you gotta be patient.

Well, I guess the takeaway here is that we should all be writing our manifestations down and really sticking with them (pun intended).

While Halle Berry and Van Hunt’s relationship has raised questions because she put their engagement “on hold,” it’s clear they are very much in love. It’s also evident that manifestation really worked for her.

Halle Berry has seemingly been living her best life lately, proving at 59 that age is just a number as she and longtime partner Van Hunt vacation in tropical locales, and the Oscar winner looks as happy as ever jumping on trampolines and drinking wine with her feet. There’s been some confusion regarding her relationship with the musician, though, and when she tried to set the record straight on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she experienced a bit of heckling from the crowd.

It was learned last year that Van Hunt had proposed to Halle Berry, but rather than saying "yes," she put the situation “on hold.” As she explained at the time, she has been married three times, and she didn’t feel like she needed to be married in order for her relationship to be validated. However, as she attempted to spill the tea to Jimmy Fallon, she encountered a bit of an interruption. Check out the video below:

Now, I can imagine this was a bit frustrating for Halle Berry. She was trying to give an important update on the state of her relationship with Van Hunt and correct any misconceptions that she’d rejected the musician’s proposal. I don’t think the heckler had bad intentions, and Jimmy Fallon tried his best, as always, to keep the mood light, but to me, Berry still looked a little uncomfortable.

As the Monster’s Ball star began talking about Van Hunt, saying she wanted to clear up some confusion, she mentioned that they’d been together for six years. At that point, you can hear from the audience a distinct:

Halle Berry hilariously responded, “No!” as Jimmy Fallon chastised the disruptors for being jealous. The actress continued:

Cue the audience member, who interrupted her again with a celebratory:

Halle Berry again gave an exaggerated, “No!” at the heckler’s sentiment, ultimately completing her story by assuring fans:

The actress — whose new movie Crime 101 hits the 2026 movie calendar on February 13 — had previously said she did not want to get married a fourth time, but sources indicate that was before she met Van Hunt. Despite putting his proposal “on hold,” insiders believed she would end up marrying the musician.

Marriage or no marriage, I think Halle Berry is right that we don't need a wedding to see how much she loves Van Hunt. She certainly hasn’t been shy about it, posting topless photos for Valentine’s Day, showing their “naughty or nice?” Christmases together and dancing to his music until her bottoms fall off.

She did, however, produce proof of her affirmative response to Van Hunt’s proposal, showing Jimmy Fallon her gorgeous engagement ring, as the late-night host took one more swipe at the disruptive audience member, saying:

Halle Berry and Van Hunt appear to have such a loving and healthy relationship that I wasn’t worried about the couple lasting, regardless of whether they ever made it official. However, I’m still over the moon for the actress and happy that she shared her big news with the world to clear up any confusion.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for constantly expanding, through the release of projects in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. While there are plenty of exciting projects, the most anticipated upcoming Marvel movie is The Russo Brothers' Avengers: Doomsday. There are plenty of fans who have been hoping Halle Berry returns as Storm in that project, and Chris Hemsworth told CinemaBlend why he would love to have a crossover with Thor.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday is super limited, so there are countless rumors about what might be included. The Doomsday cast announcement revealed entire teams of heroes that will appear, including a number of OGs from the X-Men movies. As you can see in the above video, during a conversation with CinemaBlend about their movie Crime 101, Hemsworth and Berry were asked if Thor would see Storm as "stealing his thunder" in a potential crossover. The response was the following:

• Chris Hemsworth: [Laughing] To help me summon the storms.
• Halle Berry: [Laughing]
• Chris Hemsworth: No, I was bummed.
• CinemaBlend: Really?
• Chris Hemsworth: Yeah.

The God of Thunder can have a big ego at times, but Chris Hemsworth would actually have loved to have worked with Halle Berry's Storm in the MCU. It would be fascinating to see how these characters interact, as well as how their weather-related powers work together. Alas, it doesn't look like it's actually going to happen in Doomsday.

The Extraction actor further spoke about why he thinks that Thor would actually appreciate seeing the Weather Witch at work, rather than being mad about it. In his words:

After hearing Hemsworth's comments, I'm even more bummed that Halle Berry won't be appearing on Avengers: Doomsday. The actress has repeatedly denied returning as Storm, although some fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order are still holding out hope. And these two actors' chemistry is only increasing the chatter online.

Indeed, Hemsworth and Berry's reactions to these crossover talks have some fans convinced they might be keeping a secret. The Oscar-winning actress weighed in on the chatter with CinemaBlend, questioning if Storm and Thor's similarities are the reason her character wasn't chosen to join the fun of Doomsday. She mused:

Despite Halle Berry's insistence that she's not playing Storm in the next Avengers movie, the chatter hasn't slowed down as she and Hemsworth promoted their new movie together. Even Andy Cohen tried to get them to admit she'll be back for Doomsday. While it doesn't look like that's happening, Chris Hemsworth personally offered her an invitation to join Secret Wars. In his words:

I have a feeling the discourse about Halle Berry possibly returning as Storm is not going to slow down until the next two Avengers movies are shot and released. But it's fun to imagine what her interactions with Thor could look like.

We'll be getting some answers when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18th as part of the 2026 movie release. But moviegoers can see Berry and Hemsworth on the big screen on February 13th.

For many actors out there, being honored with an Academy Award is the dream. This year's Oscar nominations have made this a possibility for many artists, including a number of people of color. Halle Berry made history as the first Black woman to win Best Leading Actress back in 2002 for Monster's Ball. But she recently got honest about how pulling off that W didn't actually change her life and career much.

Berry has been open about her disappointment in still being the only Black woman to win Best Actress at the Academy Awards. Still, her teary-eyed speech remains an iconic part of film history. While speaking with The Cut, the star of the X-Men movies got real about what happened after she took home an Oscar. In her words:

Points were made. While Berry has a history-making achievement by winning her Oscar, the industry seemingly didn't change the way it perceived her. And as such, she continued having difficult conversations when it came to casting, and her being a Black woman. So not that much actually changed for her, although she is someone with a coveted golden statuette, officially known as the "Academy Award of Merit."

These comments by Halle Berry show how challenging it can be in the TV and film industry as a person of color. While she's consistently worked since snatching an Oscar, including her time as Bond Girl Jinx. But to this day she's still facing the same issues as other Black actresses who haven't managed to take home an Academy Award.

Over the past few years, the entertainment industry has been going through some changes, particularly related to the importance of diversity and representation onscreen. But there is still work to do, especially given the fact that no other Black women have been awarded Best Leading Actress. Although people of color have been recognized in other categories; just last year Zoe Saldaña won Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Pérez (which is streaming with a Netflix subscription).

Halle Berry has a number of exciting projects coming down the line, including Crime 101, which is releasing February 13th as part of the 2026 movie release list. Fans are also hoping she'll pop up as Storm in upcoming Marvel movies like Avengers: Doomsday.

Sure, the Avengers: Doomsday cast is already stacked with 26 Marvel heroes confirmed to be on the roster to duke it out against Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom. But, if we’ve learned anything from the MCU in the past two decades, it’s that the studio loves a surprise cameo. And after seeing an exchange between Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry, I’m starting to think a Storm could be brewing come Doomsday.

Why I Think Storm Could Be In Avengers: Doomsday Or Secret Wars

As if that exchange wasn’t enough to convince us all, let’s talk through why her return actually makes a lot of sense. The biggest one is a lot of the original X-Men actors are already returning to the mix for Doomsday with Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier / Professor X), Ian McKellen (Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto), Alan Cumming (Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Raven Darkhölme / Mystique) and James Marsden (Scott Summers / Cyclops) already in the cast. The characters even got their own Doomsday teaser, so you know they'll have a sizable storyline.

Plus, while Marvel announced a lot of cast members already, they are going to want to shock audiences a few times over, and bringing in Storm would be a really great moment. She may not have a name on a chair, but I do think if she doesn’t have a surprise moment, it’s possible Berry could show up in Avengers: Secret Wars rather than Doomsday.

Sure, I might be putting on my clown makeup come December 18, when Avengers: Doomsday becomes the latest of upcoming Marvel movies to hit theaters, but you can’t blame me after that video for getting some big hope for more of Halle Berry’s Storm.

It’s been a couple of years since we’ve seen Halle Berry grace the big screen, though she’s still been living her best life and proving that age is just a number with her bikini pics, jumping on trampolines and dancing her bottoms right off. Ahead of the release of Crime 101, however, the Oscar winner got all dressed up for the premiere and dropped jaws in a plunging bodysuit and dazzling sheer skirt that honestly feels illegal.

Alas, no crimes against humanity were committed by Halle Berry, as she prepared for the book-to-screen adaptation of Crime 101 to hit the 2026 movie calendar. I mean, the 59-year-old actress was perfectly innocent walking the red carpet at Wednesday’s London screening of her new film, as shown below:

The Catwoman star sported a long-sleeved, black bodysuit by The New Arrivals whose main feature was its plunging neckline that dipped all the way to the actress’s midsection. A bejeweled, floor-length skirt shone in a chainmail-esque pattern but still maintained enough of a sheer quality to show the bottom of the bodysuit peeking through.

Halle Berry kept her hair styled casually, showing off bangs as brown waves fell delicately over her shoulders. A large floral pendant necklace was a statement piece, falling on exposed skin just below her chest.

The skirt, made of large metallic sequins and tiny pearls, gave a disco ball effect but looked far more comfortable than her mirrorball dress from the 2025 Oscars — a gown that was “such a pain” for designer Christian Siriano that he removed it from his runway show.

As far as the sheer trend goes, we’ve seen some wonderful looks recently, with Teyana Taylor raising the bar at Paris Fashion Week and Jennifer Lopez giving one of my favorite versions of see-through at the Golden Globes.

But Halle Berry is no rookie in this game. She showed some skin in a fluffy, lacy number at last year’s Cannes Film Festival — even if she did suffer a minor wardrobe malfunction — and got dangerously close to showing too much at the Met Gala. She also wore see-through black lace to the premiere of The Union — another of her most recent on-screen projects. Let’s be real: This Bond girl has been rocking the sheer look since before it was cool.

Her newest movie, Crime 101, has her teaming up with Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, in what looks like what you’d get if Thor and The Hulk were slotted into Michael Mann’s Heat. In the upcoming crime thriller, a jewel thief (Hemsworth) crosses paths with an insurance broker (Berry), as a detective (Ruffalo) closes in, determined to nab the criminal before his next job.

The rest of the cast looks pretty fun, too, as Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Nick Nolte co-star. I’m excited to see Halle Berry do her thing, and I’ll also be keeping an eye out for her next criminally gorgeous look on the red carpet.

I can’t even begin to imagine the price tag for such an event, and I’m actually desperate to know what kinds of gifts are given at a party of this caliber.

After Kris Jenner and Khloé Kardashian gifted Lauren Sánchez a $7,000 purse just for returning to Earth after an 11-minute space flight, this doesn’t seem like the kind of crowd that’s satisfied with a novelty T-shirt, spa gift card or nice bottle of wine (unless it’s a very meaningful bottle like the one Corey Gamble likely dropped five figures on for Kylie Jenner’s birthday).

We’re also talking about Kris Jenner here, who spent upwards of $200,000 apiece on Birkin bags for Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian, and they weren’t even turning 70. One wonders if the famous $7,000 Kardashian birthday cake would even suffice for such a shindig.

There’s no arguing that 70 is a big birthday, and Kris Jenner has a lot to celebrate — in fact, she probably didn’t even care that Kim threatened to steal a sliver of her spotlight with her nod to Halle Berry. Additional Mark Ruffalo is seemingly everywhere, with a busy career that belies that title of the upcoming 2025 movie Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, as we’re also seeing him in HBO’s now-concluded crime drama Task, and he’s rumored to co-star in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Before that MCU flick arrives, though, he’ll be sharing the screen with not only fellow Avengers vet Chris Hemsworth, but also former X-Men franchise star Halle Berry (and The Batman’s maybe-Joker Barry Keoghan).

The upcoming 2026 movie in question is Amazon MGM’s Crime 101, which has finally unveiled its first trailer for the public, six months after the first footage was previewed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. And by and large, it looks like Ruffalo and Hemsworth have slotted themselves into Al Pacino and Robert De Niro’s roles in Michael Mann’s Heat, with Hemsworth’s expert thief attempting to pull off a major heist despite all kinds of extra attention.

It's probably not a perfect 1:1 comparison, but it's not exactly a stretch. Set in Los Angeles, Crime 101 centers on the Thor portrayer's Davis, a canny jewel thief whose core M.O. is setting up his elaborate heists at spots along the 101 freeway. (In case anyone thought the movie title was about an introductory course.) A thief who strictly adheres to a self-imposed "code," Davis is set to take on the mythical "one last job" worth millions of dollars, and after meeting up with Halle Berry's insurance broker Sarah, he takes her on as his partner in crime.

Meanwhile, Mark Ruffalo's Det. Lou Lubesnik is attempting to figure out who's responsible for the line of robberies. His investigation deepens all while Davis and Sarah get closer to their big heist, and that's when the normal distinctions between cops and criminals starts to shift. No giant hammers or clothes-destroying Hulk-outs or anything, but pretty tense all the same.

Again, not exactly the same as Heat, but the basic building blocks are there, and I can't wait to see how it all shakes out, especially since the core trio of stars is buttressed by a wealth of supporting actors, as listed below:

Crime 101 is directed by The Imposter's Bart Layton, who also co-wrote the script alongside Oscar-winning writer Peter Straughton (Conclave). The film is an adaptation of Don Winslow's novella of the same name.

At this time, Michael Mann is putting together the highly anticipated sequel Heat 2, which may bring Leonardo DiCaprio into the fold, but we'll be watching Crime 101 long before that project hits the big screen.

We can’t forget when Halle Berry made history playing the first live-action Catwoman that had her own solo movie. But over 20 years later, the Oscar-winning actress has proved that her connection with felines isn’t too far away from her leather-wearing character. Berry has revealed herself to be a real-life Catwoman posing in new pics with some little kitties of her own.

We’ve seen Halle Berry channel Catwoman not only in the 2004 movie, but also in 2021 when she posed wearing a new catsuit and also her Catwoman mask while holding rescue kitties. Her iconic character, Patience Phillips, may have been more of an anti-heroine. But Berry has unveiled what a true warrior she is in the cat community with her new Instagram post of her newest kitty rescues:

Now, that’s what I call bundles of love! These two cats are too precious for words as Berry holds them in her arms. The X-Men star made sure to say in one of her IG videos that she’s made it her mission to find homes for the cats that make their way to her yard. In the memorable words of the Catwoman herself, “What a purrrfect idea!”

It’s a shame that Catwoman’s first solo movie wasn’t well-received. It would have been a real female empowerment moment for the superhero genre to see the DC character receive her flowers on the big screen.

But due to the broken script, vicious reviews, and no Batman, Catwoman received an 8% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes and was a box office bomb. Hailed as one of the worst movies ever made, the panned flick even won four out of seven Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture and Worst Actress.

Initially, Halle Berry hated on her movie and even accepted her Worst Actress Award for Catwoman with humor, thanking Warner Bros. “for putting me in a piece of shit, god-awful movie.” But decades later, the Monster’s Ball actress admitted that she loved working on the superhero-action flick and only hated on the movie at the time because everyone else did. On the contrary, she described her starring role as “so vindicating,” with more fans today positively reacting to the movie compared to before.

You may not be seeing Halle Berry walking around in a catsuit with a whip in hand, but she’s still a total Catwoman for her kitty rescues. If she’s willing to take control in her neighborhood for all of the lost kitties out there, I’m crossing my fingers for her wish to come true to reboot Catwoman and give the famed character the justice she deserved from the get-go. Angelina Jolie's career started early. She was just 6 years old when she appeared in her first movie in 1982 alongside her dad, Jon Voight. By the late '90s, she was on her way to becoming one of the biggest stars in the world. She got into action movies with films like Gone In 60 Seconds and her biggest franchise, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and while she has always kept one foot in more indie-type movies (including as a director), she's been a steady action star for decades.

Nicolas Cage

It's hard to come up with a Hollywood star with a more diverse acting career than Nicolas Cage. His rage is actually pretty amazing, and that certainly includes starring in some great action movies, like the iconic Con Air and the National Treasure movies.

Scarlett Johansson

Like a lot of actors on this list, Scarlett Johansson can't be pigeon-holed as simply an action star. She is, however, one of the major players in the MCU as Black Widow, and has starred in other action flicks like Jurassic World Rebirth and Lucy.

Wesley Snipes

Most of the biggest box office successes of Wesley Snipes' early career were comedies like Major League, Wildcats, and White Men Can't Jump. In the early '90s he transistioned into action movies with leading roles in the likes of New Jack City, Passenger 57, and Rising Son. He also starred in Demolition Man with Sylvester Stallone, and, of course, as Blade in three movies.

Halle Berry

You might not think of Halle Berry as an action star... until you remember how many superhero movies she's starred in. Not only was she an important part of the X-Men franchise, but she was also Batwoman in 2004 and has also starred in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and others.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

This one is a little tricky. Technically, action movie legend Arnold Schwarzenegger had his first role way back in 1970 with Hercules in New York, but that was really a one-off B-movie that was soon forgotten. After he spent the 1970s winning every bodybuilding trophy on Earth, he entered Hollywood properly in 1982 when he starred in Conan the Barbarian. Everything since is action history.

Robert Downey, Jr.

Robert Downey, Jr. doesn't jump off the page as an action star. The Oscar winner has proven he can star in any genre, but as the anchor of the MCU movies for more than a decade, he definitely belongs on this list.

Tom Cruise

There's nothing to be said about Tom Cruise that hasn't already been written, right? One of the biggest stars in Hollywood history, Cruise has starred in action movies like Top Gun and its sequel, a couple of Jack Reacher movies, the Mission: Impossible franchise, and great one-offs like Edge of Tomorrow, War of the Worlds, and Minority Report, to name just a few. Plus, he famously does a ton of his own stunts, which shows just how much he belongs on any list of big action stars.

Milla Jovovich

Milla Jovovich started as a model, but transitioned to movies with films like Return to the Blue Lagoon and Dazed and Confused. Soo,n though, she started popping up in legendary action movies like The Fifth Element and, most notably, as Alice in six Resident Evil movies.

Jean-Claude Van Damme

In the '80s, a whole slew of action-first stars emerged, and one of the most popular was Jean-Claude Van Damme. Van Damme first gained fame in No Retreat, No Surrender, and followed that with hits like Bloodsport and Cyborg.

Linda Hamilton

Director James Cameron can be divisive, but you can't argue that he knows how to create female action star leads with great parts and great casting. Linda Hamilton is a legend from her appearances in the Terminator movies over the years.

Kurt Russell

Okay, we have to acknowledge that Kurt Russell's career started when he was a child star with Disney way back in the 1960s. In the '80s, he fully dove into action flicks in a big way with movies like Escape from New York, The Thing, and Big Trouble in Little China, all directed by one of the decade's best directors, John Carpenter. He's since been in a slew of action movies.

Mel Gibson

With the Mad Max franchise and the Lethal Weapon movies, Mel Gibson would be on this list even if those were his only movies. Of course, he has so much more, like Braveheart, Ransom, and many of the other best action movies of the '90s.

Thandiwe Newton

Thandiwe Newton debuted in 1991's comedy Flirting, and in the '90s and beyond, she's starred in action movies like Mission: Impossible 2, The Chronicles of Riddick, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and 2012. She's also starred in TV shows like Westworld that fit in this genre, too.

Dolph Lundgren

One of the pillars of cheesy (and awesome) '80s action is the great Dolph Lundgren. From fantasy heroes like He-Man in 1987's Masters of the Universe to communist boxers like Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, he's been a staple for decades in lots of action movies, including part of the O.G. cast in The Expendables franchise.

Lucy Liu

Lucy Liu kicked off her career in the early '90s, and before too long, she started doing some awesome action movies. Probably the most notable are the Charlie's Angels movies and the Kill Bill movies, but she's also got some less-well-known ones like The Man with the Iron Fists, directed by RZA, and even superhero movies, like Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Jason Statham

Like other actors on this list, Jason Statham didn't start in true action flicks. His first roles were in the Guy Ritchie films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, but within a couple of years, he became a full-blown action hero in The Transporter and The Italian Job. Now it seems like he's in all the biggest action franchises, like The Expendables and the Fast & Furious movies.

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron is one of the most versatile actresses in Hollywood. She won an Oscar for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the terrifying true story Monster. She's also been in acclaimed dramas like The Road, Cider House Rules, and Bombshell. Of course, she's starred in a whole slew of great action movies like Mad Max: Fury Road, Atomic Blonde, Æon Flux, and a few of the Fast & Furious movies.

Jet Li

Jet Li started out in movies in Hong Kong in the early 1980s, where he quickly established himself as one of the great martial arts stars in Chinese-language films. After a decade and a half in Hong Kong, he moved to Hollywood in the late '90s, starring first as the villain in Lethal Weapon 4 in 1998. He became such a big action star that he was included in the first three Expendables movies.

Kevin Costner

Kevin Costner might not seem like the typical action star, but he definitely is. Movies like Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, The Postman, and the incredibly underrated Waterworld prove that when he wants to be, he can be a great action hero.

Michelle Yeoh

Like some other actors on this list, Michelle Yeoh starred in martial arts movies in Hong Kong in the '90s. Her breakout film in the West was as Wai Lin in the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies, where she showed the whole world her stage fighting and stunt skills. Since then, she's been in hits like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and, of course, Everything Everywhere All at Once, for which she won the Oscar for Best Actress.

Bruce Willis

There's no way this list would be complete without the great Bruce Willis! Die Hard will always be one of the best action movies of all time and in many ways helps define what a action movie in the 1980s looked and felt like. Only Willis could have pulled off the the wit and charm of John McClane. He's been in a ton of action movies since, of course. He is now retired, due to his health, but he worked right up until he no longer could.

Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz took a long hiatus from acting, finally returning in the 2025 Netflix release, appropriately called Back in Action. While she may be best known for her roles in romcoms like There's Something About Mary and The Mask and dramas like Gangs of New York and Vanilla Sky, she's had her fair share of action hits too, like Charlie's Angels and Knight and Day.

Steven Seagal

It's easy to forget just how huge an action star Steven Seagal was in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He actually sort of dominated the box office with movies like Hard To Kill, Above The Law, Mark For Death, and Out For Justice. He reached the artistic pinnacle of his career with 1992's Under Siege. It's not just a great movie for teenage boys like his first four movies; it's legitimately a great movie, with great performances from Seagal, Tommy Lee Jones, and Gary Busey. Sure, he's not making movies on that level anymore, but he's still been churning out straight-to-video-type releases for decades.

Peter Weller

Peter Weller's breakout came in The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension in 1984, but he really hit the big time with 1987's classic RoboCop. Sure, it was insanely violent, but RoboCop had a unique political message, too. Weller's been going strong ever since.

Robert Patrick

The iconic T-1000 in Terminator 2 became one of the great action villains of the 1990s. Robert Patrick played the role of the callous, cold robot killer perfectly. It established him as a legit action star, and he's been busy ever since.

Mickey Rourke

Mickey Rourke isn't only an action star. In fact, most of his roles have been in serious dramas, starting with movies like The Pope of Greenwich Village and 9½ Weeks in the 1980s, but he's definitely proven his action bona fides with roles in Iron Man 2, Sin City, and The Expendables.

Matt Damon

Anyone who has starred as Jason Bourne in four films deserves to be on this list. Sure, Matt Damon might not be the first actor you think of as an action hero, but come on! You can't deny that he belongs on this list for those films alone. Throw in movies like The Martian and Elysium, and he definitely should be here.

Dwayne Johnson

We're making a slight exception here. Technically, Dwayne Johnson's first movie credit came in 2001 in The Mummy Returns, but he had been quite famous for years for his work in the WWE throughout the 1990s. So while he didn't get his start in movies until later, he was a well-established star years before that. Of course, in the two and a half decades since his first movie role, he's become one of the biggest action heroes of all time.

Zoe Bell

This is another interesting case. Zoe Bell's first acting role in a movie was in Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof in 2007. Wow, what dexterity! I’ll be honest, even assuming I could hold the wine glass just like Halle Berry is doing, I’d be too afraid of spilling its contents on that white bedding. But Berry pulls it off like a champ, and once again in a bikini, with this one coming from Monday Swimwear. I can do without the wine, but I would definitely be jazzed to be vacationing at a place like that.

This post follows a few days after David Justice, Halle Berry’s ex-husband, admitted that the reason they separated in 1996 was because, at that time, he was bothered by how “don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem like motherly.” Berry was definitely addressing that statement with this series of pictures, as her caption read, “Phew…! cooking, cleaning and mothering.” Berry has a daughter from her relationship with model Gabriel Aubry, and a son from her marriage to actor Olivier Martinez. The year was 1992, and she couldn’t simply drop into his DMs. So, she gave the reporter her phone number and told him to have the MLB star call. He did.

Unfortunately, the marriage didn’t last, and now the former MLB player has opened up about what happened to the relationship, at least from his perspective. Turns out, he blames his “Midwest” ideals for their split in 1996.

But this wasn’t exactly how things went with Ms. Berry. In fact, Justice said during a recent podcast interview with “All The Smoke” the actress was very much a modern woman. She was the one, for example, who asked the MLB player to marry her, and after only five months of dating. And when it came to cooking and cleaning? Well, that wasn’t happening.

Even when things went sour, he said his mom gave him advice to take “the high road” in the public eye, but that he still feels hurt about some things that happened after their marriage ended. For example, he said he felt hurt when Halle Berry just let the public think he was the person she dated who hit her and impacted her hearing.

Still, looking back he feels like in a different time maybe things would have worked out differently for him and his famous ex, also stating in hindsight that times have changed a lot since the mid-nineties.

The celebrity divorce ended up being tumultuous, with Berry asking for a restraining order and citing “personal safety” reasons in the filing. Regardless, their split was finalized in 1997 --the same year her iconic movie B.A.P.S. came out -- and the athlete says he hasn’t spoken to his ex since.

To date, Justice later married Rebecca Villalobos and they had three children together, while Berry has been married three times, and has occasionally clapped back at internet users who have trolled her failed marriages. Several of her splits have been contentious. Her current partner is musician Van Hunt, who reportedly proposed to her, though their current relationship status is not totally clear.

Halle Berry has been absent from superhero universes since notably playing Catwoman in 2004 (save showing up in one more X-Men movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past, in 2014), but she is teaming up with another DC alum for a new project. The actress has had her hands full with movies like The Union and Never Let Go releasing very close to each other in 2024, and the Oscar winner isn’t slowing down any time soon. Her new film is an intense international thriller, and I actually can’t wait to see her join forces with an A+ co-star.

According to Deadline, Berry is set to star alongside Djimon Hounsou in Red Card, which is based on real events in Africa. The thriller follows Max, played by Hounsou, who is a ranger fending off animal poachers in Kenya. The disappearance of his son leads him to form an alliance with FBI supervisor Amanda, played by Berry, who is fighting trafficking rings in Africa. Filming is set to take the duo around the continent, as shooting will take place in both Maasai Mara, Kenya and Casablanca, Morocco.

While Halle Berry may be the "movie star" here, Hounsou is a decorated actor himself. He gained prominence when he joined the cast of Steven Spielberg’s Amistad, and even more attention after being nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Blood Diamond. He starred in some of the best films of the 2000s, and has since become a recognizable actor for his performances in franchises like A Quiet Place, the MCU, where he had a role in Guardians of the Galaxy, and the DCEU, where he played The Wizard in both Shazam movies. He can be both a character actor and a leading man, and I’m predicting great chemistry with Berry, who has also had a varied career.

This must have been quite a special project for both Berry and Hounsou to be able to attach themselves to the international production. Berry has two other films that she's attached to in pre-production, including the upcoming horror film, Maude v Maude, with Angelina Jolie. Honsou has three films in pre-production, and one in production, making him one of the busiest actors in Hollywood. Red Card would make lucky number four for the Rebel Moon actor, so this story must be an important one to tell.

There is a lot to be excited about in Red Card aside from just this casting. The movie will be directed by Joel Souza and written by Oscar winning screenwriter Nick Vallelonga and Midnight Run writer George Gallo. Souza has expressed praise for the script, and the talent attached which will undoubtedly bring this story to life. The movie is still in the pre-production process, with casting of supporting parts not yet completed. However with this kind of leading talent involved, I’m sure the producers will get this project in production in no time.

It may be a while before Red Card heads to the big screen, but in the meantime, you can see Halle Berry alongside Chris Hemsworth in her upcoming movie, Crime 101, which is set to be released on February 13th, 2026. In my opinion, there are certain live-action adaptation of animated classics that shouldn't happen or shouldn't have been made. Even for all the misses out there, larger-than-life set design and A+ performers can go a long way. When it comes to 1994's The Flintstones, it's definitely elevated by the quirky aesthetics and great performances, including Halle Berry’s iconic turn as Miss Stone. Berry is pitch-perfect in the role, which makes me surprised that she was actually hesitant to take on the role in the first place due to a key reason.

My cinema-loving self is squarely focused on the 2025 movie calendar at the moment, but I love being reminded of classic flicks as well. Apparently, there are still plenty of fans who still have love for Berry's performance as the sexy and sleek Ms. Stone. The A-lister reshared an X post including some stills of her from The Flintstones, which was birthed from the '60s show featuring Hanna-Barbera characters. As it turns out, Berry was leery of taking on the role since it marked new territory for her as an actor:

The adaptation of the all-time great sitcom received mixed reviews, but the fact that many still consider Halle Berry's work to be great is a testament to her skills. As unbelievable as it may be that Halle Berry didn't jump at the chance to play Stone, I can understand why she was “shy” about portraying a character who's very much in touch with her sexuality. There's a great level of vulnerability that an actor can have when portraying such a role. Not only that, but Berry was only in the early years of her career as it was.

Sure, the maxi dress was a little sheer in places as the lace appliqué did not cover in the same way across the entire dress, but that actually was not the problem.

Instead, the soft material the dress was made of was the culprit. When Berry leaned in to take a photo with this year’s President of Feature Films, her dressed snagged on the beading in Binoche’s own look. The end result looks like the two were hugging, but that’s not exactly what happened.

Berry had already spoken out about having to change one of her looks due to it not abiding by Cannes’ rules about “nudity” and "voluminous" dresses. Given Berry nearly had a wardrobe malfunction every time she walked at the recent Met Gala, you may have guessed something along those lines was the issue, but she actually cited “too big of a train” as the reason she had to change her dress. However, she found a way to have her celebrity fashion moment anyway.

Last year, Taylor Swift wore a simple corset dress to the Grammys and the look has swept across red carpets in the time since. Jennifer Lopez tried it. Also, Florence Pugh tried it for a BAFTA event. The style works for basically everyone, but I especially appreciate the deep maroon color and the train on the gown Halle Berry wore for the Chopard Universe Gala evening.

She couldn't wear the Gurav Gupta number on the red carpet due to it's train, so she worked around it and wore the corset gown to the event instead.

Berry is generally known for taking risks with fashion. One time she even wore a mirrored Christian Siriano dress he later deemed to much of a pain in the rear to redo for the runway. And she was noticeably early to the sheer trend before Florence Pugh broke the Internet by "freeing" her nipples a few years back. (Sidebar: Pugh has no idea what happened to the famous pink dress.)

We may have to wait a bit for the actress' next red carpet run. The festival wrapped on Saturday, May 24th and Berry and her beau Van Hunt celebrated with an intimate dinner at what she called her "favorite spot." She also said "a very goodnight to Cannes" while they celebrated the night out at Le Maschou.

It’s clearly been a whirlwind of a week for the actress, and we saw so many incredible looks from her, but at the end of the day it’s the corset dress with the dreamy train I’ll still be thinking about, and it's too bad the new rules pre-empted her from wearing it when and where she wanted to. Hopefully, we’ll see her back for the duration of the film again next year.

Every good idea has a moment where it crosses over from a concept of its time straight into being a missed opportunity. For some of the upcoming titles on the 2025 movie schedule, the creation stories that led to some of our most anticipated releases include those sorts of narratives. Now, with a recent interview reviving the subject of Halle Berry’s failed James Bond spinoff, I think we have an opportunity to right a pretty big wrong.

Currently serving on the jury for this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the Die Another Day star was asked whether or not she’d be up for once again playing that project’s Bond Girl, Giacinta “Jinx” Johnson. Variety was on hand to report on the subject, which saw Ms. Berry offer this official ruling:

On one hand, the follow-up that saw the Academy Award winner asked if she’d play a female James Bond was answered with Halle Berry admitting she was unsure if that idea was viable. But when it came to her Jinx-based answer above, I think that response is open to some interpretation.

There’s clearly a lot of past tense being used in those statements, which seem to indicate that this idea’s time has passed. Whether it’s the extended period of time that’s passed since the idea for Jinx was floated, the fact that 007 has undergone a soft reboot after the Pierce Brosnan James Bond movies, or a reason I’m not seeing here, Halle Berry does seem to have this pitch in her rear view mirror.

At the same time, her resume as of late has shown that she’s still got the action moves required to get the job done. In particular, her roles as Continental manager Sofia in John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum, and in Netflix’s action-comedy The Union, may have rekindled those hopes for James Bond fans. There’s nothing that a re-write and/or casting of a young Jinx for the required flashback scenes couldn’t fix.

Or so one would think, until you realize that based on the details from those leaked Jinx script pages, pretty much the entire movie is a flashback. Clearly there’d need to be some tinkering, if not a full-on re-draft to hypothetically bring Halle Berry back to the world of 007. But with Amazon-MGM’s creative control deal now in place, new James Bond producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman could decide that it’s about time to test the waters with a spinoff or two.

Should that be the case, I think this needs to be the first challenge to see just how the Bond brand fares outside of the traditional tuxedoed adventures we’re accustomed to. However, it does help that Berry’s next film, the promising Crime 101, is also set up at Amazon-MGM. So this hard work just might have put her where the good luck can find her.

While there are several yearly events that have style watchers keeping their eyes peeled for celebrities wearing their best and most creative ‘fits, very few cause famous folk to step out quite like they do for the Met Gala. This year’s event was no different, as everyone who walked the red carpet at the 2025 Met Gala delivered some jaw-dropping looks. Never Let Go star Halle Berry has been rocking red carpets for a long time now, and she has absolutely never disappointed. The Oscar winner has done everything from give us sophisticated sheer looks before they were cool, to a glorious and incredible mirrored gown at this year’s Academy Awards and a shimmery gold halter gown, so we all know that she’ll bring it every time. Let’s take a look at what the one-time Bond girl wore to the most recent Met Gala, shall we?

Oh, my! Obviously, if you pay attention to the Moonfall actress, fashion and/or the Met Gala, you were not expecting to see her in anything resembling a burlap sack for this occasion, but still…DAAAAYYYYYUUUUMMMMMMM!

As you can see, this gown’s “stripes” are made up of sheer panels which alternate with bead-covered fabric, with those beads, seemingly, being the only thing that stands between Berry’s…berries, and the outside world. She also donned a cropped tuxedo jacket for her arrival, but that did nothing to add coverage for the badass John Wick: Chapter 3 star.

Fashion designer LaQuan Smith spoke to Vogue about why they chose to go so daring in interpreting this year’s Met Gala theme, which was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” and specifically a tribute to “Black dandyism,” and said:

“Sheer boldness” is right. As noted, Berry has rocked sheer and barely-there looks many times before, but this amazing dress kinda takes the maybe-you-can-see-sumthin’-sumthin’ cake. One wrong move and everything is briefly on display, but considering how she’s become known for owning her sexuality as she ages, I doubt she would have been even remotely embarrassed by such a slip.

The ultra-exclusive Met Gala brings out massive stars every single year, with the recent edition seeing celebs like a white suit-clad Zendaya peep Diana Ross’ red carpet walk and a juicy Rihanna/Kardashian/Jenner rumor squashed, but Berry really pulled out all the stops so that we’ll be talking about her look for a long time to come.

At 58 years old, Halle Berry continues to captivate fans with both her beauty (hello, Mother’s Day butt pic) as well as her projects on the 2025 movie calendar, and that fact is proven by how often her name appears in song. The Academy Award-winning actress took some time recently to respond to a fan on X (Twitter) who made a comment about how often artists name-drop Halle Berry and how “fine” she is, as she posted:

Honestly, there are so many. You can make a full Halle Berry playlist with all her mentions (and those definitely exist). But, as one can imagine, the Monster’s Ball star isn’t the only woman to make her way into rap lyrics, and the narrative isn’t always as complimentary.

Monica Lewinsky, who became infamous in the 1990s as the White House intern who had an affair with then-President Bill Clinton, has also had her name appear in a song or two (or 100), and she had a funny proposal in the comments of Halle Berry’s tweet:

It’s undeniable that Monica Lewinsky has had a rougher go of it than Halle Berry when it comes to how she’s portrayed in pop culture. Instead of the general public recognizing the president’s abuse of power with the then-22-year-old White House staffer, Lewinsky became the punchline of every late-night joke.

Rap artists didn’t pull their punches either, with G-Eazy titling a 2014 song “Monica Lewinsky,” and even female rappers like Beyoncé and Lil Kim taking shots. Lewinsky called out the Renaissance singer for using her name as a verb in “Partition,” when Beyoncé sings, “He Monica Lewinsky'd all on my gown.” Other Lewinsky rap references include:

So, while Halle Berry’s mentions are primarily comments on her being the epitome of beauty (honestly, how many people could have pulled off that mirrored Oscars dress?), Monica Lewinsky’s rap legacy is composed almost exclusively of references to oral sex and semen.

In the years since the Clinton scandal, Monica Lewinsky has become an activist against cyberbullying, harassment and public shaming. I honestly can’t tell you which woman has been name-dropped in more rap songs, but in this case context is everything!

There were a number of incredible dresses worn to the 2025 Oscars, but none truly took my breath away quite like Halle Berry's did. The actress showed up to the event to present a tribute to the James Bond franchise and, in a way, paid tribute to her time as a Bond girl in Die Another Day, one of Berry’s best films. She wore a mirrored Christian Siriano dress that fit her like a glove, and she looked absolutely incredible. Everyone was talking about the stunning look, however, now the designer is opening up about what made this particular dress so difficult.

Siriano explained that the dress in question was quite a difficult piece, especially because of the amount of sequins and mirrored pieces that make up the entire dress. Apparently, the pieces didn’t hold onto the dress very well, so the night before, Siriano and his team of dressmakers worked tirelessly to ensure nothing fell off the dress while the 2002 Best Actress Oscar winner wore it on Hollywood’s biggest night. He explained to InStyle:

I mean, I’d argue that it was worth it. Not only was the unique dress a perfect choice for Berry, who has never been afraid to experiment with a fashion look, but it was also styled beautifully.

Aside from fitting her perfectly, she also wore assorted diamond jewelry from Pomellato, which worked with the “mirrorball” aesthetic. The black sheer panels on the side make it even sexier, and I can’t imagine how difficult it must’ve been to adhere those mirror sequins to such a thin, delicate piece of fabric. Truly impressive craftsmanship.

Even with such an undeniably gorgeous dress on his hands, Christian Siriano ended up actually cutting the dress from his runway show.

While the garment was beautiful, it was clearly very difficult and delicate, making it likely hard for a model to showcase the piece. In addition, he explained that everything else in his collection for that season wasn’t very silver, and such a silver statement piece would’ve been inconsistent.

The dress ended up being a moment, but Siriano revealed that he still didn’t regret the decision to hold it back from his show, saying:

Instead of people seeing the dress on the runway before the Oscars, everyone saw it for the first time on Berry, making it an individual moment just for this dress.

It’s clearly stunning and probably would’ve been a talked-about runway piece. However, it also may have gotten lost in the shuffle of all of Siriano’s gorgeous pieces that were also showcased. This was THE fashion moment of the Oscars, and I’m glad he waited for the big event to show it off.

The mirrored dress moment is behind her, but Berry herself isn’t slowing down. Netflix subscription holders can see her in The Union, which was a hit on the streamer last year, and she is set to star in an upcoming film with Chris Hemsworth. She’s clearly still in full icon mode, on and off the red carpet. If this Oscar's moment was any indication, Berry’s next era is going to shine just as brightly.

Halle Berry’s 2025 movie schedule isn’t stocked with intended cameos for upcoming Marvel movies and TV shows, but she has a project that I’ve actually been waiting to hear about for some time. Attached to an adaptation of Don Winslow’s Crime 101, that title has sat rather cryptically on the X-Men movie vet’s resume. What’s even better is that while Ms. Berry won’t be returning for Avengers: Doomsday, she’s going to have some Avengers to deal with in this upcoming picture.

During Black Girl Nerds’ interview after Amazon-MGM Studios’ 2025 CinemaCon Panel, the OG Storm actor talked about how this new project is a theatrical must-see. And seeing as the cast includes Thor: Ragnarok bros Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo in the proverbial deck, this is a hand that sounds well worth playing.

That's especially the case when Halle Berry has the Extraction star playing her jewel thief partner, and our recent Mickey 17 heavy as a detective investigating it all. Let's see, Mark Ruffalo investigating cases of thievery that are carried off by a ridiculously attractive and capable crew, with tons of money on the line.

Why does this sound so familiar and welcoming? I’m sure it’ll come to me later, but for now, what I can say is that the veteran Bond Woman from Die Another Day will be playing a character who’s been passed over for a leadership position due to her age.

Seeing as the company she works for offers, in her characters words (via THR) “insurance policies for people who have more money than they know what to do with,” Halle Berry’s quest for revenge involves a lot of trouble.

While we don’t know the size of the take, Crime 101 director/co-writer Bart Layton has signaled that L.A’s famed 101 Freeway is a huge player. So this could be more of an Italian Job ‘03 sized romp than a tightly packed Heat scenario. Perhaps the final, and most impressive, credit in this constellation of stars is 2025 Academy Award Winner Peter Straughan.

Crime 101’s co-writer recently took home that trophy for his work on the Robert Harris adaptation Conclave, and it was previously nominated for his work on the criminally underrated Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, starring Gary Oldman. To say that Straughan knows his way out around twists of genre and events is an understatement.

Unfortunately, for as hyped as we all might be about this title slated to debut before the end of the year, Crime 101’s trailer is not available. All we can go by are inside accounts of that CinemaCon presentation and the images they conjure. That’s enough for Don Winslow’s novella to grab my attention, as I’ll be excited to read it while picturing Halle Berry walk away with the loot faster than you can say Now You See Me.

Last week’s massive Marvel livestream that revealed the cast of Avengers: Doomsday had so many names on it that it’s hard to believe there’s an actor in Hollywood who won’t be in the movie. But there were more than a few surprising omissions in the cast for the upcoming Marvel movie, including former X-Man Halle Berry.

The biggest surprises in the Avengers: Doomsday announcements came when several members of the original X-Men franchise cast saw their names on the back of chairs. Not only did we get Kelsey Grammer and Patrick Stewart (who had both made brief MCU appearances already), but the list also included the likes of Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden. Conspicuous by her absence, however, was former Storm actress Halle Berry. She was recently asked by Black Girl Nerds if she might still get her name on a chair. Disappointingly, she said…

While Avengers: Doomsday is now in production, it seems likely that the list of actors revealed in the livestream aren’t every actor who will be in the movie. It’s a safe bet that some surprises are still being kept behind the curtain. With so many other X-Men actors returning, fans (including myself while I live blogged the event), fully expected to see Berry’s name join the others. But it never did.

Halle Berry’s answer seems pretty definitive. Most of the time when actors are asked questions they can’t answer, they’ll talk around the question to avoid outright denying something that is actually true. Berry’s answer doesn’t leave a great deal of wiggle room.

What’s more, if you listen below to the way she answers the question, she seems disappointed and resigned to the fact that her name is “not gonna be there.” One wonders if perhaps there were talks between her and Marvel, and they just couldn’t make a deal.

There is always the possibility that Halle Berry might still appear alongside her X-Men castmates in Avengers: Doomsday. Perhaps Berry is being coy with an answer, simply saying her casting won’t be announced, even if it is happening. Or maybe Berry is taking a lesson from Andrew Garfield, and just straight up lying about whether she's in the movie. Even if there are currently no plans for her to appear, if the voices are loud enough from fans who want to see Storm return, maybe the Russo Brothers will make some changes and find a place for her. There's still time.

If we don’t see Halle Berry in Avengers: Doomsday, it will certainly be disappointing. In whatever capacity the X-Men will appear, it’s hard to imagine she won’t be missed. Still, there’s always Avengers: Secret Wars, which is certainly going to try and find some way to top Doomsday. Maybe Halle Berry will be its secret weapon.

Like millions of people around the world, I spent five hours watching Marvel slowly roll out all those Avengers: Doomsday names in March 2025, and like a lot of people, I was bummed a few of the biggest MCU stars, including Ryan Reynolds, didn’t have a chair. While it may be true that we will see more additions as we work toward the release of the upcoming Marvel movie, I was shocked by some of the names left out of the excruciatingly long cast announcement.

That said, here’s a list of some of those beloved MCU actors I really hope we see when the Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday opens on the big screen in May 2026. It’s a long list (no, not as long as that video), so let’s get started…

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds, who has played Deadpool since the Fox days, has made a habit of teasing his return to the MCU ever since the release of Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. I totally thought we’d see his name on one of those chairs in that seemingly endless lineup, which is why I’m so bummed the wise-cracking, R-rated, and lethal hero wasn’t included.

In an ideal world, Reynolds’ return would also include the likes of Dafne Keen, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, and Leslie Uggams (you can’t have Deadpool without Blind Al).

Tom Holland

With the Spider-Man 4 release date so close to the Avengers: Doomsday rollout, it would be shocking if Tom Holland doesn’t show up in the massive crossover film a few months before his new Web-Slinger adventure. The highly in-demand actor seemed like a shoo-in to be included in the gargantuan list filled with all his MCU buddies. There are rumors that Holland won’t be in the next Avengers film, but I’m not totally convinced at this point.

Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson has been a part of the MCU since he showed up in Tony Stark’s house and revealed himself as Nick Fury way back in Iron Man. Since then, he’s popped up in all of the Avengers movies, so I was a little saddened and surprised by his omission from the absurdly long cast list for Doomsday. I mean, Fury is still alive on the Marvel Cinematic timeline after the events of The Marvels.

Chris Evans

Even though his version of Captain America retired during the Avengers: Endgame ending, Chris Evans has reappeared in the MCU (Johnny Flame in Deadpool & Wolverine), so I wouldn’t be shocked if some character played by the franchise mainstay shows up by the time it’s all said and done. Evans has been cagey about a possible return in the past, but not seeing his name on the back of a chair is a little disheartening, if I’m being honest.

Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo has been one of my favorite MCU actors ever since he took on the role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in 2012’s The Avengers. He’s been there for all the major moments in the franchise since then, but now I’m starting to think his iconic character won’t be saving the planet, galaxy, universe, or multiverse with his old buddies next summer. This can’t happen. I mean, who’s going to give Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man an extra taco?

Benedict Cumberbatch

Is Benedict Cumberbatch bringing back Doctor Strange (third eye and all) for Avengers: Doomsday? I don’t know because the longtime Marvel staple wasn’t included in the longest line of chairs I’ve ever seen. The actor’s comments about his return to the MCU have been all over the place, with his most recent comments to Business Insider in January 2025 making it sound like he could possibly return.

Don Cheadle

Though the Armor Wars project seems to be up in the air, I thought Don Cheadle would for sure be a part of the upcoming Avengers movie. James Rhodes has been a part of the franchise since the very beginning, and Cheadle’s version of the character has had a part in three of the four crossover films to date.

Brie Larson

Another big name missing from the “Infinity Scroll of Chairs” was Brie Larson, whose Captain Marvel has long been one of the strongest heroes in the entire MCU. We last saw her in The Marvels back in 2023, so she’s due for a return at this point. The same can be said about co-stars Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani, who play Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan, respectively. I’d be shocked if they didn’t appear.

Jeremy Renner

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye has had one of the craziest journeys in the MCU over the years. The underrated Avenger has been through it all, and I’ll be bummed if he’s not part of Doomsday next year. He famously wasn’t part of the Avengers: Infinity War cast, so maybe, just maybe, we’ll see him in Avengers: Secret Wars in a few years.

Charlie Cox

With Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdoch very much a part of the MCU again with the recent arrival of Daredevil: Born Again, I will be shocked if the actor doesn’t appear in Avengers: Doomsday. His name is on the rise (both the actor and character), so his absence could be felt a great deal.

Also, I would love to see Cox’s Defenders co-stars like Mike Colter, Finn Jones, and Krysten Ritter have some kind of role in what appears to be the biggest Marvel movie in years.

Halle Berry

Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and several other major players from the original X-Men movies were all announced for Avengers: Doomsday, but there was one actress whose absence really bummed me out: Halle Berry. Whenever the music would change and the camera would pan to the right, I kept hoping to see the Storm actress listed on a chair, but it never came.

The same can be said about Famke Janssen, Anna Paquin, and Hugh Jackman, three other major names from the franchise who are oddly missing from the cast list.

The Guardians Of The Galaxy

Though Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff seem to be finished with the MCU after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the rest of the actors should still be in play moving forward. With Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, and Vin Diesel being major parts of the last two Avengers movies, it will be odd not to see them in the upcoming Doomsday. I really hope that changes, as I’d love to see that ragtag group of space scoundrels save the day again.

The Eternals

After Captain America: Brave New World referenced Eternals earlier in the year, it felt like maybe this oft-forgotten MCU movie would be getting some attention again. However, none of the actors from the 2021 epic were included in the Avengers: Doomsday rollout. I guess we’ll have to wait longer to figure out what’s going on with the group played by Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, and Barry Keoghan.

Other Marvel Stars I Want To See In Avengers: Doomsday

On top of all these names and various groups, I would love to see even more actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe show up in Avengers: Doomsday. From longtime staples like Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Hayley Atwell, and Scarlett Johansson (nobody stays dead forever, right?) to other fan favorites played by the likes of Benedict Wong, Dafne Keen, Lupita Nyong’o, Awkwafina, and Danai Guirara to actors introduced in post-credit scenes like Brett Goldstein and Charlize Theron, there are just so many familiar faces that could show up.

Will any or all of these actors show up in Avengers: Doomsday or its sequel? I really hope so.

Throughout the history of Hollywood, some incredible Black actresses, who’ve put in tremendous performances. Just two of those stars are the incomparable Whoopi Goldberg and Halle Berry. It’s not uncommon for the stars to be discussed together when memorable films are being discussed. However, as of late, the two have been embroiled in a rumor regarding some supposed drama. With that, Berry — who rarely ever bites her tongue when gossip swirls around her — took some time to set the record straight.

Both Halle Berry and Whoopi Goldberg were present at the 97th Academy Awards nearly a week ago, during which the 2025 Oscar winners were honored. The two icons appeared during different segments of the show, yet one entity claimed things could’ve been different on that front. A Threads account known as us_24hr_report alleged that Berry turned down the opportunity to present an award alongside Goldberg, with the allegation being that the former Bond girl doesn’t think Goldberg is a “nice person.” Berry then responded, saying:

It’s rare for the X-Men icon to shy away from social media when someone says something about her. Several years ago, the actress didn’t hold back when responding to a troll, who claimed she couldn’t keep a man. The actress also clapped back at someone else after they deemed her too old to post nude photos on social media. Aside from her on-screen talents, it’s arguably the actress’ no-nonsense attitude that’s endeared her to so many. She’s also self-deprecating, as evidenced by the time she re-donned that One Missed Call wig.

Whoopi Goldberg has not commented on the rumor as of this writing, and there hadn’t been any reports to suggest that she and Halle Berry weren’t on good terms ahead of that. Funny enough, the two actresses are a lot alike in that they’re both talented and don’t mince words when necessary. Goldberg has proven that more than a few times over the years, thanks to her presence on the long-running ABC talk show, The View.

As far as this year’s Oscars (which we live-blogged) go, Halle Berry was on hand to kick off the tribute to the 007 franchise. Berry notably played Giacinta "Jinx" Johnson (one of the best Bond girls). That celebration came on the heels of longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson handing over creative control of the IP to Amazon. Whoopi Goldberg appeared alongside The Color Purple co-star Oprah Winfrey, as they paid tribute to their late collaborator - iconic composer and arranger Quincy Jones.

It’s not uncommon for rumors like these to crop up within the entertainment space. What’s refreshing, though, is whenever a star takes the time to address such chatter directly. As a fan of these two actresses, I’m glad there apparently wasn’t any friction as far as the Oscars were concerned. Here’s hoping the Catwoman alum continues to defend herself and others as time goes on.

Halle Berry is pretty good about sharing the lessons she’s learned from various ups and downs in her personal life. And it seems her fans really appreciate he willingness to be so candid. While she’s not slated to appear on the 2025 movie schedule at the moment, the blockbuster star is till opening up about different facets of her life. One such topic is the fact that she's had a long-term partner, and she apparently responded in a lovely way after a fan commended her on that.

Ms. Berry recently appeared on Today with Jenna and Friends, and she got candid about dating history, specifically how it ultimately led to her current romance with Van Hunt. Here’s how the John Wick movie star described that very personal path:

The door of appreciation opens both ways when it comes to Halle Berry and her online interactions. After Jamie Foxx announced his Netflix special What Had Happened Was…, she shared her love for the Back in Action star and fellow booster of the mega streamer. Similar to that outpouring of support, the Die Another Day icon shared some love for Angelina Jolie’s Maria, complimenting how her “friend completely transforms” in that biopic.

But, as we’ve seen with stories such as Nicholas Hoult’s “starstruck” meeting with Halle Berry, that sort of support is easy to give when people are still fighting in your corner. That lesson doesn’t only apply to fellow celebrities, as Berry isn’t afraid to encourage her followers to take her example to heart.

Clearly, there are enough good feelings to go around, and this won’t be the last time we’ll see her iconic personality shine for all to see. As the thriller Crime 101 and other projects are in her future, there will be plenty of opportunities for Ms. Berry to teach us all even more lessons about loving ourselves, in the hopes of strengthening our relationships with others.

Every year, I try to honor Black History by writing about something important that has occurred in the entertainment industry. And, I can’t think of any greater honor than winning the Academy Award.

Yes, there have been achievements in many different categories, including directing, writing, producing, scoring, etc, but today, my focus is going to be on Black actors.

Split amongst the Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor categories, there have been a total of 23 Oscars doled out to Black performers. So, here are all 23 of them, chronologically ordered.

Hattie McDaniel - Gone With The Wind (1939)

The very first Black winner for an acting Academy Award, Hattie McDaniel won it for Best Supporting Actress with her portrayal of Mammy in Gone With the Wind.

And, even though it's a racial stereotype role, McDaniel's character was often the most sensible and attention-grabbing character on the screen. It's a landmark victory for Black people in cinema.

Sidney Poitier - Lilies Of The Field (1963)

One of Sidney Poitier’s best movies, Lilies of the Field, which is about a handyman who helps a group of nuns build a chapel, was actually Poitier’s second nomination for Best Lead Actor.

His first was for 1958’s The Defiant Ones, which was a movie that he mostly shared with Tony Curtis. Lilies of the Field, however, was a leading role purely for Poitier, and he ended up becoming the first Black Actor to ever win the award. Great stuff!

Louis Gossett Jr. - An Officer And A Gentleman (1982)

In this romantic drama that also stars Richard Gere, Louis Gossett Jr. plays a hard-nosed drill instructor who really challenges his cadets.

Before there was R. Lee Ermey in one of my favorite Kubrick films, Full Metal Jacket, there was Louis Gossett Jr. berating his troops. He was the first Black man to win a Best Supporting Acting trophy, and it was justly awarded. He’s really good in this.

Denzel Washington - Glory (1989)

Denzel Washington’s first Academy Award was a supporting one for his role as a private in the Civil War drama, Glory.

As both a leader to the men in his regiment, but also a soldier who must follow orders, Washington’s character shows the duality of a Black man in uniform. Him deciding to hold up the flag for the charge is one of the most iconic scenes in late ‘80s cinema.

Whoopi Goldberg - Ghost (1990)

An EGOT recipient (though, not the only one on this list), Whoopi Goldberg received a Best Supporting Actress Award for her role as the medium, Oda Mae Brown, in the hit Ghost.

The romance between Swayze and Moore’s character is what defines this film, but it wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable without Goldberg’s humor, and seriousness when the moment calls for it.

Cuba Gooding Jr. - Jerry Maguire (1996)

For this sports comedy-drama, Cuba Gooding Jr. received a Best Supporting Actor award for his role as a cocky but steadfast wide receiver who wants to be shown the money.

Gooding Jr.’s performance is full of energy, and it makes this romantic comedy feel even sweeter when his and Tom Cruise’s characters share more than just a player and client relationship and actually become good friends.

Halle Berry - Monster's Ball (2001)

The only Black woman who has ever won Best Lead Actress, Halle Berry, took home the trophy for her role as a conflicted woman who takes on a relationship with the man who helped execute her husband.

Berry’s character is highly vulnerable, and the events of the movie are stressful beyond belief. Still, her character, as flawed as she is (everybody’s flawed in this film) weathered the storm, and earned Berry a Best Actress statue for her troubles.

Denzel Washington - Training Day (2001)

Washington’s second trophy came as the Best Lead Actor, for playing a cop in Training Day who definitely didn’t follow the rules.

Washington’s character was both charming and terrifying, often in the same scene. Say it with me, people: King Kong ain't got nothing on him!

Morgan Freeman - Million Dollar Baby (2004)

Morgan Freeman actually had a supporting role in two of Clint Eastwood’s best movies, those being Unforgiven, and Million Dollar Baby. And, both films won Best Picture.

However, it was in the latter film where Freeman picked up the Best Supporting Actor statue, for playing a grizzled former boxer and gym assistant. It’s a mostly quiet role, but a memorable one.

Jamie Foxx - Ray (2004)

In one of the best music movies of all time, Jamie Foxx scored a much deserved Best Lead Actor award for his role as the famous blind musician, Ray Charles.

Foxx even had his eyes glued shut for the sake of authenticity. Anything for the craft, right?

Jennifer Hudson - Dreamgirls (2006)

Another EGOT recipient on this list, Jennifer Hudson, scored a Best Supporting Actress trophy in her VERY FIRST ACTING GIG!

It’s little wonder why though. Hudson’s portrayal of Effie White in Dreamgirls is powerful. Going from lead singer to starting all over again, Hudson did a “Supreme” job (Do you see what I did there?) in her very first role.

Forest Whitaker - The Last King of Scotland (2006)

Forest Whitaker’s best performance is by far his role as Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland.

In a role that netted him a Best Lead Actor award, Whitaker is utterly terrifying, but also somewhat funny, in the way that only Whitaker can be.

Mo'Nique - Precious (2009)

After watching Mo’Nique as the abusive mother in Precious, it’s hard to watch her again in one of the best Black TV shows, The Parkers. It just seems like such a smoke screen.

Anyway, Mo’Nique was awarded a Best Supporting Actress trophy for this performance, and I haven’t looked at her the same way since.

Octavia Spencer - The Help (2011)

Though The Help hasn’t aged well, Octavia Spencer’s role as a maid who was fired for using a guest bathroom is still one of her best performances.

Spencer won Best Supporting Actress for a role where she got to take a dump in somebody’s pie. It’s a feel good film.

Lupita Nyong'o - 12 Years a Slave (2013)

In her career-defining role in 12 Years a Slave, Lupita Nyong'o plays a violently abused slave.

It is one of the most brutal (and likely most realistic) portrayals of slavery ever put to screen, and Nyong'o won a Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance.

Viola Davis - Fences (2016)

In this adaptation of a play in August Wilson’s Pittsburgh Cycle, Viola Davis plays a wronged but loyal wife.

The third EGOT recipient on this list, Davis should have several Oscars, but this is her sole win, and it’s in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Mahershala Ali - Moonlight (2016)

Though only in Moonlight for one act, Mahershala Ali’s performance as a caring drug dealer was so powerful that he won the Best Supporting Actor trophy.

It would be his first of two Academy Awards so far.

Regina King - If Beale Street Could Talk (2018)

In If Beale Street Could Talk, Regina King plays the mother of a young woman whose boyfriend has been convicted of rape, and she tries to convince the victim that it wasn’t him.

King won a Best Supporting Actress Award for her quiet, but searing performance.

Mahershala Ali - Green Book (2018)

In Ali’s second Best Supporting Actor win, the skilled performer played real-life pianist Don Shirley in this Best Picture winner.

Ali’s character in this film is completely different from that in Moonlight, but that sense of vulnerability still persists, which was worthy of the award.

Daniel Kaluuya - Judas And The Black Messiah (2020)

Playing the “Black Messiah,” Daniel Kaluuya portrayed the inspirational Fred Hampton in this riveting biopic.

He won Best Supporting Actor, beating out the “Judas” (Bill O’Neal) in this picture, played excellently by LaKeith Stanfield, who was also nominated.

Ariana DeBose - West Side Story (2021)

In this second adaptation of the famed musical West Side Story, Ariana DeBose won Best Supporting Actress playing Anita, who was portrayed by Rita Moreno in the first theatrical adaptation.

DeBose is absolutely magnetic in the role, firmly earning her win.

Will Smith - King Richard (2021)

Though the unfortunate slap is likely what many people remember most about this ceremony and Will Smith's award, his Best Lead Actor-winning turn really does deserve a second look.

Playing the tenacious father to Venus and Serena Williams, Smith definitely deserved the award for his work in the lauded film.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph - The Holdovers (2023)

And finally, the most recent winner, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, won Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of a quietly grieving mother in The Holdovers.

This film speaks to me as a teacher, yes, but also as a parent. I can thankfully only imagine the pain that her character Is going through.

That’s all of them! We’ll see if Zoe Saldaña, Colman Domingo, or Cynthia Erivo pick up a trophy at the 2025 Academy Awards.

As somebody who covers the entertainment world, I’m lucky in that I sometimes get to meet some pretty big celebrities. While it’s happened a not insignificant number of times, it never gets old and I’m always a little starstruck when I meet somebody whose work I particularly appreciate. It turns out that even when you are a famous celebrity, meeting famous celebrities can still wow you, as Nicholas Hoult can attest from meeting fellow X-Men star Halle Berry.

Both Halle Berry and Nicholas Hoult were part of Fox’s X-Men franchise, though they were from two different generations. Berry played Storm in the original trilogy, while Hoult appeared as Beast in the prequel series that started with X-Men: First Class. Both actors did appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past however, and while they were never on set together, Hoult tells W Magazine that he met the actress, who he called his “celebrity crush” during the press for the film. Honestly, I’m not sure anybody could blame Nicholas Hoult. Halle Berry is one of those stars that I think would stun most of us who don’t know her, even if she wasn’t already your celebrity crush growing up. Just being in the same movie with her had to be pretty impressive, even before he had a chance to meet her.

Of course, Nicholas Hoult is a movie star in his own right, and one has to believe others would be just as impressed with meeting him. The actor related another experience when he met Sharon Stone, who might not have been starstruck by him. Anybody who doesn’t know how incredibly Nicholas Hoult is will likely find out very soon. A lot of people will likely see him in the Superman cast as Lex Luthor. If I get to interview him when the time comes, you can be sure I’ll be at least a little starstruck.

Perhaps Nicholas Hoult and Halle Berry will work together again in an upcoming Marvel movie. The future of the X-Men in the MCU is still unclear, so it's possible they could both still reprise their roles at some point. One assumes Hoult wouldn't mind meeting Halle Berry again.

The year of 2024 movies gave Halle Berry two pretty huge projects to claim on her resume. Between the horror flick Never Let Go and the action-comedy The Union, she made quite an impact on the world of popular entertainment. So seeing Ms. Berry relaxing boyfriend Van Hunt couldn’t feel more earned, especially with the X-Men movies alum debating whether she should be naughty or nice in her social media reflections.

Ever the active Instagram user, Halle Berry has shown off some more fashionable looks that fit the holly jolly mood we’ve seen people feeling in the past couple of weeks. I hope for Berry’s sake she doesn’t think to ask The Grinch for his advice on the whole “naughty v. nice” thing. That green menace is admittedly kind of biased when it comes to the matter. However, in reality it’s lovely to see Halle Berry rocking both a chic swimsuit and an oversized shirt bearing Dr. Seuss’ very creation, showing us what we should expect from either side of that moral coin.

Upon further inspection, I'm starting to think that Grinch t-shirt is the “nice” side. Which definitely makes this decision harder from the viewpoint of an independent observer. However, what isn't difficult is admiring how lovely it is seeing Van Hunt looking equally joyous in these photos from their 2024 holiday celebration.

Similar to Halle Berry’s sweet 2023 post that showed off a gorgeous see-through red dress, the couple’s vibes are immaculately matched. And as any fan following Ms. Berry and her social media exploits would know, her good natured tidings haven’t been limited to merely the December holiday season.

2024 saw Halle Berry sending love to Jamie Foxx after his Netflix special debuted earlier this month, as well as the Die Another Day star sharing her excitement for Halle Bailey’s Bond-inspired Halloween 2024 costume. If anything, this latest round of snaps is upholding the generally gracious and sweet nature that the Academy Award winner has always been known for.

Even with knowing that Ms. Berry will be seen in the upcoming 2025 movie Crime 101, we’re still not sure when to expect that performance to debut. What we can say is that if what we’ve seen in 2024 continues, Halle Berry is set to have another year as wonderful as the one we’re currently closing out, if not better.

She made history as the only Black woman to win Best Actress at the Oscars and has many badass performances to show she slays through each character she portrays. But as it’s important for one queen to support another. Berry saw Angelina Jolie’s 2024 Netflix movie Maria, and I’m loving the praise she’s giving it.

Angelina Jolie’s biopic Maria has been earning raves where the Oscar winner portrayed opera singer Maria Callas’ final years. However, an important rave review to take notice of is Halle Berry’s, who wrote in her Instagram stories strong praises for the new musical biopic:

Critics, as well as Halle Berry, have agreed what a transformative performance Angelina Jolie gave in Maria. Variety said the Girl, Interrupted actress proved herself to be “a deadly serious actor of commanding subtlety and power” and Deadline said she was “an almost magical match” for the real-life singer. Director Barry Jenkins even compared Jolie’s performance to Denzel Washington's in Malcolm X, as he received an Oscar nomination in 1993. As the actress/director has been nominated at the 2025 Golden Globes for Maria, I have no doubts she’ll score an Oscar nomination as well.

Other than being Hollywood A-listers, Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry have a lot in common. Not only were they on Fandango’s Top Ten Popular Actresses list in 2014, but they also proved themselves to be total badasses when they took on action roles, like Jolie playing Lara Croft in Tomb Raider and Berry as Storm in the X-Men movies. Plus, the two are the proud owners of Oscar statuettes that represent the remarkable work they’ve put into their roles.

The two Hollywood starlets are about to have an upcoming movie in common as well. As reported last year in Variety, Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry are set to co-star and co-produce in Maude v Maude, which is described as a mix between Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Mission: Impossible with a little comedy. Berry admitted that she and her co-star had a “rocky start” at first, but were able to bond through “divorces and exes.” After all, Jolie’s divorce battle with Brad Pitt has been ongoing for seven years. The Catwoman actress could relate, as her divorce from Olivier Martinez began in 2015 and came to a close in August 2023. So it’s nice that the two women have each other to lean on professionally and in their friendship.

There’s nothing like seeing one big screen queen send praise to another as Halle Berry says kind words about Angelina Jolie’s Maria performance. I have a feeling these two will continue to have a beautiful friendship on and off-camera going forward. Jamie Foxx has, for the most part, been largely absent from the spotlight since suffering a mysterious health scare back in April 2023, though he did return to host Beat Shazam after having Nick Cannon as replacement. Fans are waiting for his feature film return Back in Action to hit the Netflix’s 2025 premiere schedule, but first we’ll see the comedy star strutting his stuff on stage for the streaming stand-up special What Had Happened Was.

Foxx shared a teaser for the upcoming special on Instagram, which doesn’t feature any footage or joke-telling, and doesn’t even fully showcase the comedian himself on the stage. But that didn’t stop friends, fans and followers from chiming in with lots of loving support, with Oscar winner Halle Berry as a stand-out amongst the comments. As awesome as it will be to see Jamie Foxx sharing the screen Cameron Diaz in her return to acting following a lengthy retirement phase, how great would it be to see him and Halle Berry on screen together? She led the twisty 2024 horror Never Let Go after co-starring with Mark Wahlberg in the Netflix action comedy The Union, and has upcoming projects with Angelina Jolie and Chris Hemsworth on the way.

But maybe there will be time for a team-up before much longer. Not that Foxx is lacking in upcoming projects himself, but I’m staying optimistic for the sake of on-screen duo chemistry.

With O’ Hallows Eve just a day away, the 2024 celebrity Halloween costumes are in full swing! The Little Mermaid’s Halle Bailey took inspiration from the Hollywood star she always gets mistaken for – name-wise, anyway – Halle Berry. Bailey rocked Berry’s iconic outfit from 2002’s Die Another Day!

Halle Berry has played a lot of famous characters across her career thus far, between X-Men’s Storm or Catwoman, but Halle Bailey decided to pay tribute to the time she was one of the Bond girls. Check it out:

Halle Bailey looks amazing as Jinx from Die Another Day, which was the twentieth 007 film when you look at James Bond movies in order. She captioned the series of photos that just about perfectly copycat the scene as “Halleween 2024”. Halle Berry took notice of the images and posted in the comment section of the Instagram post:

Since the pair have such similar names, these two have interacted before, but it’s always from a place of absolute support. Earlier this year, Halle Berry and Halle Bailey even hung out at the Inter Miami vs LA Galaxy soccer game. It’s so sweet to see Halle Bailey embodying one of Berry’s most famous movie fashion looks for Halloween, and Berry being so honored to see it.

But considering Bailey is known for her long locks, apparently there was some question the photo was an A.I. generated image. The Little Mermaid proved it was just a very good wig with this photo:

Of course a big part of the whole look is Jinx’s pixie cut, and Bailey looks great in the hairstyle. Halle Berry actually spoke about her time on Die Another Day just a couple of months ago. The Oscar winner said Pierce Brosnan restored her “faith in men” when they co-starred together because of how much of a gentleman he was to her. In the 2002 movie, Jinx was an NSA agent whose name is derived from her being born on Friday the 13th. While he is on his mission, their paths cross multiple times, and they ultimately help one another and develop romantic interests for the film.

While talking about Die Another Day, Berry also recently shared that while it wasn’t on a “wish list” of hers to be a Bond girl, she feels like she’s “part of cinematic history” by being part of one of the 007 movies. She’s “honored” to be part of the franchise, “especially with Pierce.” Bailey dressing up as Jinx certainly makes a solid point for it, too!

The costume has us thinking the franchise should be her next after killing this look.

Following the LAIKA stop-motion movie Coraline turning 15 this year, Victoria Justice adorably became the character by wearing a yellow raincoat and a blue wig. A particularly great touch is the button glasses she wears in one of the slides of her Instagram post. Justice is known for her roles in Nickelodeon series Victorious and Zoey 101.

Dylan Sprouse And Barbara Palvin As The Phantom Of The Opera And Christine

Married couple Dylan Sprouse and Barbara Palvin were inspired by one of those Broadway shows that ran for a crazy amount of time by showing up to a Halloween party as the Phantom of the Opera and Christine. Palvin is a model and Sprouse is one half of the Sprouse twins most known for The Suite Life shows when they were kids.

Anne Hathaway As Boo York City

Oftentimes people tend to go for recognizable characters for their costumes, but why not create your own? Anne Hathaway made a funny pun come alive by being "Boo York City." She had a Lady Liberty crown on, but wore ghost makeup, bat glasses and a tee shirt that says the name of the costume along with a black leather jacket and dark lip stick. What a serve!

Kelsey Anderson As Belle

The fiancée of The Bachelor star Joey Graziadei, Kelsey Anderson, put a fun spin on The Bachelor franchise by wearing a Belle costume from Beauty and the Beast. Of course, in the ABC dating shows, its stars are known to give out roses to dates they want to keep around, so it was perfect for Anderson. The former contestant from Season 28, has recently returned to the franchise with her dad Mark Anderson being a top contender for Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor after he was a contestant on The Golden Bachelorette.

The Golden Bachelorette finalist Pascal also did a spin on the franchise by dressing up as Joan from the show. The Frenchmen wore a blonde wig and gold dress, and held up a golden rose. Now we're even more curious if he'll end up with her!

Famed filmmaker M. Night Shaymalan took part in the Halloween festivities by hosting his own party in his city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Sixth Sense director dressed up as Heath Ledger's Joker from The Dark Knight when he wears a nurse outfit.

Is Megan Thee Stallion trying to get in with the upcoming Teen Titans movie DC Studios is working on? The rapper dressed up as Starfire from the beloved comic book. She even took some photos that resembled comic book images to portray the alien princess.

Lizzo was referenced during South Park's 2024 special The End Of Obesity, which satirized Ozempic and celebrities usage of the drug and others like it. In the special, the cartoon did a commercial of a new drug called "Lizzo" which allows people to not care about going to the gym and losing weight. After the singer reacted to it in May, she dressed up as the satire for Halloween. Incredible!

Halloween is just around the corner, and Hollywood is getting into the spooky spirit—none more so than Halle Berry. The Oscar-winning actress recently stirred up excitement among fans of the best horror movies by posting a chilling photo on social media. In the snap, she posed alongside one of cinema’s most terrifying clowns—Art the Clown, the iconic slasher star from the 2024 movie release and box office history maker Terrifier 3. What was even more fun is that the actor behind the menacing harlequin even responded to the Gothika star's snapshot.

Fans of the Terrifier franchise will instantly recognize the clown in Halle Berry’s photo, as he's a sadistic, silent menace known for committing heinous and unspeakable acts. Played by David Howard Thornton, this character has appeared in three ultra-violent, unrated indie horror films yet has still risen to become a modern pop culture horror icon. Halle Berry took to Instagram to share a post of herself “clowning around” with the infamous figure. You can check it out for yourself down below along with two other clown-infused snapshots:

As fun as it was to see fans' reactions to the photos, it was most satisfying to see a response from the man behind the makeup. David Howard Thornton, who has become synonymous with Art the Clown since his chilling portrayal in Terrifier and Terrifier 2, was quick to respond to Berry’s post. The white gown Portman’s character wears from Rodarte has one of the coolest backs I’ve ever seen. Nearly 15 years later, I wish she or someone would bust it out again.

Lady Mary was a bit of a fashionista across the entirety of the Downton Abbey series and its two subsequent movies, but this lush sapphire blue Prussian gown from 2019’s Downton movie stands out as a favorite and also the one that’s most red carpet worthy. Maybe in this day and age I’d drop the gloves, though (even if celebs like Taylor Swift and JLo are bringing gloves back).

Billy Porter In Cinderella (2021)

The Cinderella cast all had amazing outfits, but Billy Porter's fabulous godmother (Fab G) dress in the 2021 Cinderella is all bold colors and lush satin. It's very much a Porter-perfect look that still stands out years later.

Keira Knightley’s green dress in Atonement is very much a dress of the era it is portraying, but it’s also the sort of classic look in the perfect color and fabric that could be worn by anyone, in any formal situation, in any time period. If I had to choose a dress to rock to a movie premiere or a wedding or pretty much any occasion, this look from the 2007 (but period) movie would be it.

Hear me out: Charlize Theron looks so extra in Snow White and the Huntsman but she never looks more extra than when she’s wearing the dress with the extravagant shoulders. I’m not sure how many people revisit Rita Hayworth’s Gilda these days, but when I think of old Hollywood glamor, her satin gown and matching gloves always come to mind. This was the role that made Hayworth a household name and that dress would still have a moment if it debuted today.

Sonoya Mizuno In Crazy Rich Asians

There's a lot of just epic fashion in 2018's Crazy Rich Asians, but the stellar standout moment is Araminta's wedding, which just has so many great looks from the main cast. At the end of the day, despite the gorgeous setting and shiny, happy people, it's the dress that's to die for.

Laney’s red makeover dress is on-trend now the ‘90s and early aughts are making a comeback. Its spaghetti straps and slim silhouette are simple, but would still really would turn heads on the red carpet today. I love the matching red pumps she pairs the look with as well.

Shug Avery's bright looks in The Color Purple stand out. It may be more of a show dress, but if I had to kick it on the red carpet, I'd want something just as sequiny. Maybe I'd throw in some pearls to boot.

Anne Hathaway In The Idea Of You

A lot of people would say Ms. Hathaway's iconic fashion movies are either The Princess Diaries or The Devil Wears Prada, and while neither are wrong choices, my pick has to go to her character in The Idea of You. When Solene meets Hayes in her beautifully tailored, creamy Fendi number, his head was turned, but so was mine.

Luckily, we're likely to see many more red carpet-worthy looks on the big screen for years to come!

Given the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4, it still remains to be seen if this franchise’s main film series will continue with John Wick: Chapter 5 or if this is indeed the end for Keanu Reeves’ title character. Fortunately, this fictional world will continue expanding thanks to spinoffs, including the 2025 movie release of John Wick Presents: Ballerina and a movie focused on Donnie Yen’s Cain. There’s also been talk of Halle Berry’s Sofia, who was introduced in John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum, getting her own spinoff and the actress is still game for this provided it happens sooner rather than later.

While Berry was talking about her new movie Never Let Go, which is now playing on the 2024 release schedule, with THR, interviewer Brian Davids brought up how he’d been expecting John Wick: Chapter 4 to bring Sofia back, specifically envisioning that she and John would have been “racing to protect her daughter.” When Davids asked Berry if she ever let herself “think that far ahead in terms of where things could go,” she answered:

To be fair, there are a lot of characters in the John Wick franchise who only appeared in one movie, with the only regular players being Ian McShane’s Winston, Lance Reddick’s Charon and Laurence Fishburne’s The Bowery King starting with Chapter 2. So it’s not entirely shocking that Sofia didn’t resurface in Chapter 4 following she and John going their separate ways in Casablanca, but I agree with Halle Berry that it would have been cool to see her return. Maybe if Sofia had been around in the fourth John Wick movie, his battle with the Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont would have been a little easier.

It’s been five years since John Wick 3 was released in theaters, and as Berry made clear, she’s still open to reprising Sofia in a spinoff, but the clock is ticking on how long she’s willing to wait around for that opportunity. For now though, she’s game for if director Chad Stahelski pitched her said spinoff movie or a limited series, saying:

Along with Ballerina and the Caine movie, there’s also a TV series in development called John: Wick: Under the High Table, which will take place after Chapter 4 and follow new characters who attempt to bring down this criminal organization. Let’s be clear, given Halle Berry’s star power, a Sofia spinoff movie should definitely be under serious consideration. However, if for whatever reason that’s not in the cards, maybe she can be squeezed into the Caine movie or Under the High Table in a supporting or even co-lead role. I’d include Ballerina too, but that movie’s already locked in following its principal photography period and reshoots.
