Producer Harvey Weinstein was once one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood, responsible for lifting and sinking the careers of various cast/crew members. Nowadays he's synonymous with the #MeToo movement, after allegations of sexual misconduct were made about Weinstein by various Hollywood figures including Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan. He's been facing various charges and possibly life in prison, although he recently got some good news. A guilty verdict for Weinstein was recently overturned, leading to a statement by his reps. Although he's definitely not out of the woods yet. 

This report comes to us from Deadline, which revealed that the 2020 guilty verdict has been overturned by the New York Court of Appeals. Judge Jenny Rivera issued a statement about why, claiming that the courts admitted testimony for other uncharged and alleged claims. That statement reads:

As such, Weinstein and his legal team are gearing up for a new trial based around the same allegations. There's no guarantee he's getting out of prison anytime soon, and he's still kicked out of the film Academy and will likely never return to work in the industry.

In response to this legal victory, Weinstein's rep Juda Engelmayer offered a statement to Deadline about the shake-up. She said: 

Of course, this is only one charge that Harvey Weinstein has been facing over the last few years, given the bevy of allegations made against him. In addition to this charge, he was also convicted of sexual assault in 2022, and sentenced to 16 years in prison. So despite the overturned verdict, he's not able to walk freely around the world and remains behind bars. 

Only time will tell how the retrial for that dropped conviction will play out, and if he'll get another legal victory. Shortly after his conviction, reports came out that Weinstein was sick and ailing in prison. But despite any health ailments that the former producer is suffering from, he's still healthy enough to stand trial and continue fighting. Because while he made a public apology for his actions, he's also maintained his innocence related to sexual assault allegations. 

Filmmaker Todd Field has made his triumphant return to the world of movie-making with his powerhouse film Tár after a nearly 17-year hiatus. The actor-turned-director stormed onto the Hollywood scene in the early 2000s with his five-time Oscar-nominated directorial debut, In the Bedroom. But his career was almost doomed before it had time to get off the ground when Miramax Films acquired the movie. The heads of the distribution company, brothers Bob and (the now disgraced) Harvey Weinstein, requested a number of cuts. According to Field, his movie was saved due to the step-by-step advice Tom Cruise gave him.

Todd Field’s career was recently profiled, during which he revealed that he met Tom Cruise while acting alongside him in Stanley Kubrick’s final film, Eyes Wide Shut. While on set, Field told the Days of Thunder star he had an idea for a movie based on the 1979 short story “Killings” by Andre Dubus but didn’t believe he could get the rites. Cruise reportedly told him he was "making excuses" and to "figure it out." Field took the sage advice (which Cruise is known to give his fellow actors), resulting in In the Bedroom. 

However,  Field told The New Yorker after Miramax Pictures acquired the movie, Todd phoned Cruise, distraught. The Taps actor proceeded to give Field instructions, and the process was quite specific.

He followed Tom Cruise’s advice down to the T, and In the Bedroom was released as Miramax had purchased it. The film went on to gross more than twenty-five times its budget and was nominated for Best Picture, along with garnering four other nominations. His sophomore film, 2006’s Little Children, was also critically acclaimed and well-received upon release. It earned a Best Actress for star Kate Winslet, Best Supporting Actor for Jackie Earle Haley, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Field, who adapted it from Tom Perrotta's novel of the same name. 

After the release of Little Children and the reception it received, you would imagine the filmmaker would quickly follow up his second film with another project. The sky seemed to be the limit for the lauded indie auteur. However, Todd Field spent nearly 16 years in development hell on numerous projects before finally getting Tár off the ground and into cinemas. And the Cate Blanchett-fronted film has earned praise.

The film tells the story of Lydia Tár (played by Cate Blanchett), who is considered one of the greatest living composers of her time. She is also the first woman to be the chief conductor of a German orchestra. However, things get murky when the musical juggernaut is accused of abusing her power. The drama premiered at the Venice Film Festival, receiving a six-minute standing ovation after the screening. Since its release, critics have highlighted Blanchett's performances as powerful and nuanced, making her a front-runner this award season.

Todd Field definitely seems to have another winner on his hands this year. However, even as he basks in the acclaim of his latest feature, he surely hasn't forgotten his directorial debut. And one would think that he'l be forever grateful to Tom Cruise for helping him to undo the changes that Harvey Weinstein and co. tried to make.

Tár landed in theaters on October 7 but is now available to rent on all major streaming services. Last year saw Blanchett join the cast of Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio, and she is next slated for Eli Roth’s adaptation of Borderlands. Tár very well could be one of her greatest performances (but there are so many great Cate Blanchett movies to choose from). It could also finally land director Todd Field the Oscar gold that he's been dancing around for so many years. 

For the majority of Quentin Tarantino’s filmmaking career, the writer/director’s movies were set up at companies run by Harvey and Bob Weinstein, be it Miramax or The Weinstein Company. However, following the numerous sexual assault allegations that were publicly directed at Harvey Weinstein in 2017 and onwards, Tarantino ended his relationship with the brothers and took his 2019 movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to Sony Pictures. Now Tarantino has opened up about how wishing he would have had a “man-to-man” talk with the disgraced producer years earlier.

Quentin Tarantino has been promoting his new book Cinema Speculation, and one of his recent stops was Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace, which can be watched with an HBO Max subscription. During the visit, Wallace brought up Tarantino’s relationship with Harvey Weinstein, and while the filmmaker claimed that he never heard any “talk of rape” tied to the producer, he had heard stories about general sexual impropriety involving Weinstein. Tarantino admitted that he “chalked it up to a Mad Men-era version of the boss chasing the secretary around the desk,” but also wished he’d gone up to Weinstein to say “Harvey, you can’t do this.” Tarantino continued (via Variety):

Back in October 2017, shortly after the first public allegations directed at Harvey Weinstein surfaced, Quentin Tarantino said that he knew there was “more to it than just the normal rumors, the normal gossip,” and that he first became aware of the producer’s behavior while he was dating Mira Sorvino, who’d had her own unfortunate experiences with Weinstein. At that time, while Tarantino was “shocked and appalled,” he assumed what had happened was exclusive to Sorvino, and that his relationship with the actress would have stopped further attempts from Weinstein. That said, in 2018, Uma Thurman recalled that she shared with Tarantino while working on Kill Bill that Weinstein had sexually assaulted her, and the filmmaker demanded the producer apologize for his actions.

In any case, Quentin Tarantino has now recounted, not only was he supposedly not aware of the full scope of what HarveyWeinstein had done to so many women, but he chose not to confront the producer about what he did know because he didn’t want to deal with the man’s “pathetic” nature. Whatever the full story is, Tarantino cut ties with the Weinsteins, and when The Weinstein Company started selling its assets in May 2018 (the company was defunct by the following July), it was reported that Tarantino was among the filmmakers who were owed a lot of money.

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison back in March 2020, and his latest trial bringing further charges between on October 10, 2022 in Los Angeles. Actress Kelly Sipherd is among the witnesses who have taken the stand for this trial, and even Mel Gibson was roped into the legal drama. As for Quentin Tarantino, he still has his 10th and final movie to work on, and along with confirming that it definitely won’t be anything Marvel or DC-related, don’t expect it to be about his own life either.

By now we’ve all heard of the #MeToo movement and former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein’s long history of sexual abuse. What you may not know, however, is exactly how Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey of the New York Times worked with dozens of Weinstein’s victims to help them break the story and change the landscape for women in the film industry. She Said is that story, starring Carey Mulligan as Twohey and Zoe Kazan as Kantor. The reviews are in to help you decide if you think this is a movie you should see in theaters.

She Said is a biographical drama, based on the book She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite A Movement. With Maria Schrader as its director, the movie is already garnering 2023 Oscar buzz. Let’s see what the critics are saying, starting with CinemaBlend’s review of She Said. Our own Sarah El-Mahmoud rates the movie 3.5 stars out of 5, saying the movie not only humanizes a historical moment, but delicately enlightens the public about what it took for the journalists to expose the truth. The critic shoots down the idea that it’s too soon to have a full picture of the effect of the investigation and the notion that we’ve already dissected this story from every angle. She says: 

Steph Green of We Love Cinema rates it 4 stars out of 5. The critic is impressed at this story of journalistic integrity and female solidarity, and while there’s inarguably still work to be done, this story of triumph is one to be celebrated: 

Many critics took note not just of the importance of the work that Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey did in their dogged pursuit of the story, but how She Said also shows the journalists as working mothers, wives and women who sacrificed a lot to patiently work through tons of red tape in order to effect change. On October 10, 2022, the latest trial against Miramax co-founder Harvey Weinstein was set. He’s facing sexual assault charges of five women in Los Angeles County that reportedly occurred over the course of nine years. As he’s currently facing a 23-year prison sentence after being found guilty of sexual assault back in 2020, he could face 140 years in prison if he’s found guilty at this trial. One accuser took the stand to tell her story about the alleged sexual assault she experienced by him at a film festival.

Harvey Weinstein is currently facing grand jury indictments of four counts of rape, four counts of forcible oral copulation, one count of sexual penetration by use of force, and one count of sexual battery that allegedly occurred to five women in a nine-year period. According to Variety, aspiring actress Kelly Sipherd testified to a Los Angeles jury that Weinstein allegedly sexually assaulted her in a hotel room at the Toronto International Film Festival in 1991 and then again 17 years later when she confronted him at the same location. 

In 1991, Sipherd was 24 years old, and she was casually introduced to the then-39-year-old Weinstein while mingling with friends at TIFF. She said she and Weinstein initially hit it off as they had a casual conversation about art and film. She then reported that Weinstein suggested the two grab a glass of wine to continue their discussion. Sipherd didn’t see any reason to be alarmed by him during their talk and thought a connection with him would be good for her acting career.

While talking over drinks at a public restaurant, Weinstein recommended a role for Sipherd and wanted to show her the script for the movie. In her testimony, she said she followed him to the Four Seasons hotel expecting just a script read only for Weinstein to allegedly emerge from the bathroom wearing nothing but an open shirt and holding a hot washcloth. She said he took her shirt off and put the hot washcloth on her vagina saying, “My wife loves this. You’re going to love this.” Sipherd told the jury he forcibly performed oral sex on her, and he inserted his fingers into her vagina all while holding her chest and legs down. While frozen in fear, she reported feeling “nauseous, scared, terrified” with repeated pleas for him to stop. She then said that she felt his penis inside of her “for a few seconds,” and she somehow found a way to escape.

After the 1991 alleged assault, Sipherd testified that Weinstein made repeated calls to her in the following weeks. The first time he called, she said she asked him why he did what he did to her, and he denied that it was rape. He allegedly told her that he wanted her to come to New York to audition for a role. When she showed up in New York with a friend to feel safer, he was reportedly enraged with her because she wasn't alone when he called her room, leading to repeated phone calls and an attempt to angrily enter her hotel room. She skipped the audition and didn’t hear from him again for years.

In 2008 when Sipherd was temporarily living at the Four Seasons with her husband and children, she ran into Weinstein in the lobby at TIFF. Weinstein’s assistant said that he wanted to see her, and she agreed with the hope of confronting him about what happened in 1991. After asking Weinstein in his room “How does it feel to be in front of the one woman who said no to you?” he allegedly led her to a closed bathroom where he was blocking her way out. She testified that he masturbated in front of her and wanted to see her breasts while doing so. Sipherd was able to leave five minutes later.

Kelly Sipherd was embarrassed about the alleged bathroom encounter with Weinstein, preventing her from filing a police report. She told three friends about what happened to her and left it at that. When sexual harassment allegations against Weinstein first started coming out igniting the #MeToo movement, Sipherd told the jury that she always wondered if she was the only one.

The reportedly ailing Harvey Weinstein is currently at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles seeking to appeal his previous sexual assault conviction from 2020. The year that Weinstein was convicted, his victims won a huge settlement on behalf of nine different women, and actress Ashley Judd won a legal battle against him. In the current case, eight women are set to testify against Weinstein, according to CNN. 

The legal proceedings continues for Harvey Weinstein, as the disgraced Hollywood producer is facing sexual assault allegations made by five different women. Weinstein has pleaded not guilty to the charges and, right now, he’s in the midst of the juror selection process for the case. A hearing was held at the end of this past week, and it resulted in a number of notable developments. However, what’s seemingly grabbed most people’s attention is the fact that Mel Gibson has now been roped into Weinstein’s legal drama. 

According to Variety, a judge ruled this past Friday that Mel Gibson can testify on behalf of Jane Doe 3 during Harvey Weinstein’s upcoming rape trial. The unnamed woman claims that the former movie mogul sexually assaulted her at his hotel in 2010. It’s said that the purported assault occurred after she gave Weinstein a message. Apparently, Gibson is a friend of the woman, and she detailed the alleged incident to him after it occurred. 

The lawyer of the ex-Weinstein Company head argued against having the potential Lethal Weapon 5 star testify. The attorney, Mark Werksman, argued that the Oscar winner has been engaged in a few of sorts with the former movie producer for years now. Werksman alleges that this stems from a dispute over The Passion of the Christ. The lawyer also argued that the actor, who has had his own share of controversies, is now trying to “rehabilitate” his image in the aftermath of the #MeToo Movement. 

Additionally, Mark Werksman requested that the defense be allowed to question Mel Gibson about racist and antisemitic statements he’s made in the past. The judge ultimately shot down that request. Jane Doe 3’s lawyer questioned why such a thing would be necessary, and Werksman argued: 

Should Mel Gibson appear in court, his testimony could have major ramifications on the case. Essentially, if he corroborates Jane Doe 3’s story, it could possibly lead to another setback for Harvey Weinstein. The reportedly ailing Weinstein is not only embroiled in this case but is also seeking to appeal his 2020 sexual assault conviction. As a result of that ruling, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison. That same year, Weinstein’s victims were granted a major settlement, and he was also dealt another blow when Ashley Judd won a legal battle against him.

The public will likely be watching closely to see whether Mel Gibson will take the stand. In the meantime, Harvey Weinstein’s case is set to resume this coming Monday, and jury panel dismissals will be covered.

Angelina Jolie has been a bit more in the limelight recently as her divorce to Brad Pitt continues, her new movie Eternals begins to gear up for release and her new book Know Your Rights gains momentum. Oh yeah, and now that she's on Instagram too. The actress recently spoke out about her new book specifically in a recent interview, talking about how she felt assaulted by Harvey Weinstein and said she was “hurt” by Brad Pitt for working with him. Now, we’ve heard from Weinstein and sources close to Pitt on the matter.

Essentially a few days ago Angelina Jolie was promoting Know Your Rights, a book about rights children essentially have under a UN convention policy, including things like rights like, dignity, health, equality and more. As part of this, Jolie was asked about the early part of her career and working in the industry, and she stated working with Harvey Weinstein had been difficult, equating it with assault.

Harvey Weinstein spoke from jail to his publicist to note to TMZ “THERE WAS NEVER AN ASSAULT” (all caps were his) and to state he feels the actress is simply attempting to “sell books.” But that was only part of what Angelina addressed in her interview with The Guardian. The other part was about how she felt that ex Jonny Lee Miller was supportive while ex Brad Pitt made choices she didn’t agree with.

Brad Pitt worked for Quentin Tarantino as part of the Weinstein Company-produced flick Inglourious Basterds. Years later, Angelina Jolie called him out for it, but a source familiar with the situation also told TMZ that while The Weinstein Company did distribute Inglourious Basterds it was simply Tarantino that Pitt was interested in and whom Pitt felt he was working for. The source noted he never "teamed up" with Harvey Weinstein. A later movie, Killing Them Softly, was distributed by The Weinstein Company.

Pitt has since gone on to work with Tarantino on Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, though that movie was distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing after the Weinstein allegations broke. Though technically Pitt has worked on movies that were related to The Weinstein Company, his other ex Gwyneth Paltrow painted a different picture of the actor when she said that Pitt defended her against Weinstein after he behaved inappropriately toward her while they were dating early in her career.

To note, Angelina Jolie is still friendly with ex Jonny Lee Miller and the two even met up over the last year. Meanwhile, she and Brad Pitt have been involved in a long and contentious divorce for years now and given the judge was just removed from the case, it could go on for a while still. As part of this split both members of the former couple have spent a whole lot of moolah and Jolie herself has pushed to maintain custody over the kids, though she has since moved the family to a home that is closer to where their dad lives. There hasn't been a ton of positivity following their split, as Jolie has said she separated from the actor for "the well-being of her family" also alleging alcohol problems from Pitt, who is now sober. It's unclear what all happened with the Inglourious Basterds incident, but Pitt took that role in 2009 when the two were well into the throes of a romantic relationship and already shared children.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are arguably one of the most talked-about couples in Hollywood history. Both actors have fought to strike a balance between keeping the details of their personal lives together private, and making sure they speak their truth. As details of their marriage and divorce have emerged in court and in the media, it’s led to some startling revelations -- most recently, that the pair "fought" over his decision to work with Harvey Weinstein.

In addition to his work as an actor, Brad Pitt has also branched out as a producer with his company, Plan B Entertainment. In a new interview with The Guardian, Angelina Jolie discussed Brad Pitt’s decision to seek funding from Harvey Weinstein for his 2012 film, Killing Them Softly, even after knowing the producer had attempted to assault her several years before:

Harvey Weinstein is currently serving a 23-year prison term after being found guilty of predatory sexual assault and rape in 2020. According to Jolie, her own encounter with him occurred while she was promoting the 2002 film Playing By Heart, which he executive produced:

Brad Pitt also starred in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, which Weinstein’s company co-produced in 2009. He made headlines in 2018 when his former girlfriend, Gwyneth Paltrow, revealed that he once threatened Harvey Weinstein after learning he had harassed her. The actress and entrepreneur became a key witness in The New York Times’ initial story about the producer’s long history of misconduct, alongside Angelina Jolie.

The couple's relationship began on the set of 2005’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith. It has remained tabloid fodder ever since, especially while their contentious -- and expensive -- divorce and custody battle has dragged on. At present, they are still working on resolving legal issues with some of their joint business ventures.

Despite it all, Angelina Jolie told The Guardian that what she wants most is for everyone in her family, including Brad Pitt, to heal and be peaceful. She recently partnered with Amnesty International to write a book called Know Your Rights and Claim Them: A Guide for Youth, which will be released this October. She will also star in the highly-anticipated Marvel film Eternals, which hits theaters on November 5.

Film producer Harvey Weinstein had a ton of power during the height of his career, but he's had a very public fall from grace over the past few years. A variety of women came forth with allegations of sexual misconduct, with the #MeToo movement being born in the process. Weinstein was arrested charged with sexual assault in 2018, before being convicted this year and sentenced to 23 years in prison as a result. And now it looks like his health is continuing to decline in captivity.

Harvey Weinstein's health has been making headlines for the past few years, starting with the former producer appearing in court using a walker. And now that he's currently serving time in prison, there have been more reports about his declining health, as well as rumors about possibly contracting COVID-19 behind bars. And the latest of these reports indicate that he's being "closely monitored" as a result of a bad fever.

This update on Harvey Weinstein's health in prison comes to us from Deadline, thanks to a statement provided by his publicist Juda Englemeyer. While he's got a fever that has his reps concerned, they haven't confirmed or denied that Weinstein contracted COVID-19 in prison. But a written statement was provided to the outlet, which reads:

Well, there you have it. It looks like Harvey Weinstein's health is being closely monitored from behind bars, although there are still plenty of lingering questions about his current condition. Chief among them is the possibility of him having the Coronavirus that has already affected so many people throughout the world. We'll just have to wait for more official information to arrive.

Early reports about Harvey Weinstein possibly contracting COVID-19 came back in March, when information about the pandemic was still being gathered. His spokesman ended up refuting these rumors, although it's clear that the producer still has a number of health issues that are being monitored. This time they didn't give an answer one way or another regarding his possible COVID diagnosis, so there's no telling if/when they'll give more information.

It’s been nearly three years since Ashley Judd, along with a number of other women,  came forward with sexual assault allegations against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. Earlier this year, the disgraced executive was found guilty for a number of charges, including third degree rape, and was sent to prison for 23 years. This week, a court ruling has altered a sexual harassment law as a result of Ashley Judd’s specific claim against Weinstein.

When the Divergent actress spoke out about her 1998 experience with Harvey Weinstein, she explained that he had made unwanted demands in her Beverly Hills hotel room, such as asking her to watch him shower and trying to give her a massage. She believes her rejection came back to bite her when she was up for a role in Lord of the Rings. Peter Jackson has since confirmed that he removed the actress from consideration from a role after a meeting with Harvey Weinstein. He, or someone from Miramax, allegedly called her a “nightmare” to work with.

Since Ashley Judd’s claims were made, she has not been allowed to move forward with her suit because California sexual harassment laws were not in her favor. Because the actress was not a direct employee of Havey Weinstein at the time, it was struck down by a federal judge. The Ninth Circuit has now made a new ruling that will not only allow Judd to finally pursue her case, but so will others claiming sexual harassment in professional relationships.

Ninth Circuit Judge Mary Murguia said this with the ruling, per The Hollywood Reporter:

In other words, Ashley Judd’s claims are valid because although she was not officially an employee with Harvey Weinstein, the mogul was in a significant position of power over her of leverage that applies to claims of sexual harassment in the workplace. Weinstein’s attorney, Phyllis Kupferstein, responded to the new ruling with these words:

The claims against Harvey Weinstein are certainly not over yet, as Ashley Judd moves forward with the case she began back in 2017. Progress has certainly been made since she initially spoke out considering the 68-year-old is currently in prison (he allegedly tested positive for COVID-19 shortly after being placed in prison). An almost $19 million settlement was also won by nine of the women in July, though none of the money is apparently coming from Weinstein’s pockets.

The Weinstein claims have brought about more conversation surrounding the #MeToo movement and given more people the courage to speak out against sexual misconduct. Stay tuned here on CinemaBlend for more Hollywood news.

Harvey Weinstein is in prison serving time for sexual misconduct charges. However, the disgraced Hollywood executive is far from done with his legal battles. He may be facing additional criminal charges in Los Angeles down the road, but a civil case filed against Weinstein, Weinstein Company Holdings, and some members of TWC, is now in the rear view mirror as well, as an $18.875 million settlement has been reached on behalf of nine different women who sued Weinstein for sexual harassment.

While the nearly $19 million settlement was won on behalf of nine plaintiffs, if approved by the judge, it will create a victims fund that can potentially be drawn on by other victims of Weinstein in a way that will allow them to make claims without going public,

The suit was filed in November 2017 and accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment and abuse. The suit also included other current and former members of the Weinstein Company, who the suit claimed failed to prevent or stop the abuse. The settlement will require approval by the judge but as Deadline reports it is supported by both the New York State Office of the Attorney General as well as the other side, it is almost certain to be accepted.

While the settlement can be seen as a big victory for Harvey Weinstein's victims, not everybody is on board with the settlement. Attorneys representing six other women, some of whom are handling independent legal proceedings against him, call the deal a "sell out" of other victims.

Under the terms of the deal, Harvey Weinstein accepts no responsibility for his actions, and apparently, none of the money going toward the settlement is actually coming from Weinstein himself. It will also make any further civil claims difficult if not impossible under the terms of this deal.

Victims who wish to claim some portion of the settlement can fall into two categories depending on how much detail they are willing to reveal about their incidents. By submitting a claim form, with or without supporting documentation, which describes the abuse, a claimant can receive between $7,500 and $150,000. The second category adds an interview by the Special Master handling disbursements, and awards can increase to up to $750,000.

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison following a guilty verdict in February for charges including rape in the third degree and criminal sexual acts in the third degree. Charges against Weinstein for sexual battery were filed in Los Angeles in March. The process of extraditing Weinstein to Southern California had been begun, but due to the ongoing pandemic, that process has been stalled, so it's unclear when the former producer will face these additional charges against him.

In recent years, ex-movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has become synonymous with the #MeToo movement following the numerous sexual assault allegations made against him and his subsequent jailing. But before all of this, he used to make headlines for his conflicts with collaborators. Weinstein worked with numerous filmmakers including Kevin Smith, who ran into a financial issue with Weinstein and Miramax over one of his films years ago:

Kevin Smith went on to tell Variety that he still hasn’t received all of the money he was owed by Harvey Weinstein and Miramax for Clerks. Yet the fan-favorite comic book pundit stressed that the money wasn’t a major problem for him, saying that cash has never been his motivator.

Kevin Smith is the subject of an upcoming documentary entitled Clerk, which chronicles the biggest moments of his career. The film will also feature a previously unused segment about his work with Harvey Weinstein, which Smith felt needed to be added to the finished film.

As Kevin Smith mentioned during the interview, Weinstein is reportedly very shrewd when it comes to money. This is a dynamic that has been seen on various occasions, such as when he and his brother and business partner Bob Weinstein confronted Warner Bros. about their paydays for The Hobbit. Before his scandal broke, Weinstein also attempted to sell a portion of his film catalog to Netflix for $25 million.

In addition to financial quarrels, Harvey Weinstein has also had battles with directors and producers on certain projects. During the development of The Lord of the Rings films, Weinstein apparently threatened to remove Peter Jackson as director and replace him with another filmmaker.

Grace of Monaco director Olivier Dahan came to blows with the producer of the final edit of the movie. Producer Megan Ellison, who worked with Weinstein on films like Killing Them Softly and Lawless, became entangled in a feud with Weinstein over the marketing strategy for The Master.

Newly revealed details also seem to indicate that Weinstein also had issues with actresses such as Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Aniston.

Although Kevin Smith appears to be unphased by the concept of missing money, it’s somewhat comforting to hear that he and his Clerks collaborators received some form of compensation. And one can assume that the situation served as a learning experience for a young Smith, who had just entered Hollywood at the time.

Clerk was expected to premiere at SXSW but, following the festival’s cancelation, a new premiere date has yet to be announced.

As coronavirus began to spread across the country in March, it was clear very early on that no place was truly safe. Prisons were one place where there has been a large fear of major transmission. While the populations are, to a degree, already isolated, if the virus ever did make it inside, transmission among the population would be difficult if not impossible to stop. This made the rumor that recently imprisoned Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein had tested positive for coronavirus somewhat surprising, though far from impossible.

Now, however, it appears that the rumor may have been just that, as a spokesman for Weinstein now says that he has "no issues" in regards to the virus and there was "never confirmation one way or another" regarding a test for coronavirus.

The report of the positive test was never anything more than a rumor. There were two confirmed cases of coronavirus at Wende Correctional Facility, where Weinstein is incarcerated, but the names of those prisoners had not been disclosed. This made a Weinstein diagnosis plausible, but nothing more. Considering that there were positive cases in the prison, it's possible that Weinstein was tested for the virus, but even that much is unconfirmed. His spokesman, Juda S. Engelmaye, told Fox News he doesn't know if the test was actually conducted or not.

If he in fact did test positive, or had the virus without being tested for it, it appears that he's currently suffering no ill effects, but it's just as likely at this point that he never had it.

Although, all of that certainly would put him in the high risk category if he were to contract the virus.

And Harvey Weinstein's legal issues aren't over yet either. Following the guilty verdict in New York, charges were filed against Weinstein in Los Angeles for additional alleged incidents of rape and sexual assault. Certainly, under the current circumstances, no prosecution is likely to move forward, but once shelter in place orders are lifted we could see yet another trial. Charges in California could see a similar sentence to the one he's already serving if found guilty.

Prison inmate Harvey Weinstein has been placed in isolation after allegedly testing positive for the COVID-19 virus. The alleged diagnosis continues a whirlwind few weeks for the former super producer, as he was found guilty, sentenced to 23 years in prison and later rushed to the hospital.

The news definitely still needs an allegedly at this point. It was first reported by The Niagara Gazette. Following the initial publication, The Daily Beast reached out to Weinstein’s publicist, Juda Engelmayer, but he reportedly said he hadn’t heard any such thing. The New York Department Of Corrections has officially confirmed two inmates at Weinstein’s current prison, Wende Correctional Facility, have tested positive, though they have not disclosed any names for privacy reasons.

Harvey Weinstein’s recent trial was highly publicized, lasted for four weeks and featured numerous witnesses. He was ultimately found guilty of sexual assault, then immediately rushed to the hospital after complaining of chest pains. From there, he took a detour for processing to Riker’s Island. Between prison officials and inmates, 38 people have reportedly tested positive for coronavirus in New York City prisons.

Harvey Weinstein was once considered one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers, at least when it came to awards season type movies. He had a hand in launching numerous careers and won more than his share of awards. He also picked up producing credits on more than 300 projects including Good Will Hunting, Pulp Fiction and Shakespeare In Love. Rumors of alleged tyrannical behavior and womanizing followed him around, but it wasn’t until the #MeToo movement that actresses and other women working in Hollywood began speaking up in unison. He was eventually kicked out of the Academy, which votes on the Oscars, and later prosecuted for rape and sexual assault.

At 68 years old and with a failed recent back surgery under his belt, he wasn’t in particularly good health prior to his alleged COVID-19 diagnosis. Right now, Weinstein has reportedly been moved to isolation to keep him from infecting other inmates. As of right now, it’s unclear whether he’s showing any symptoms or even why exactly he was tested. If he is coronavirus positive, we’ll likely hear some kind of statement from his publicist in the coming days, but until then, there’s not going to be a lot of verified information out there. The Department of Corrections won’t comment on the record, and the flow of information in and out of prison is always sketchy.

The COVID-19 pandemic is currently ripping across large segments of the world. As the Harvey Weinstein case winds down and the former head of The Weinstein Company heads to prison for 23 years, new stories are still emerging about the former producer’s behavior. While Kate Beckinsale says she wasn’t sexually harassed or assaulted by Harvey Weinstein, she did reveal a post 9/11 story that is still fresh on her mind nearly 20 years later. Probably because she remembers Harvey Weinstein calling her a “cunt.”

In her words, the year she starred opposite John Cusack in the romantic charmer Serendipity, the premiere happened in 2001 shortly after the 9/11 attacks. In a detailed post, the actress revealed she and some of her co-stars wanted to cancel the premiere but that Harvey Weinstein insisted that the show must go on.

She chose a demure white suit and tie for the occasion, detailed in her Instagram post:

The premiere went off without a hitch, but little did she know, Harvey Weinstein was not happy about her clothing choice at Serendipity’s premiere. She says under the guise of setting up a playdate, he used the opportunity to repeatedly describe her using c-bombs and other language about her body. Per Kate Beckinsale:

In the post, she said she tried to defend her choice of costume, noting that post 9/11 wasn’t really the time for sultry looks, but according to her he didn’t want to hear it. She later touched base on the Me Too movement and Harvey Weinstein going to prison, noting that this sort of abuse is still happening in some corners of Hollywood.

The old trope of certain personalities being difficult to deal with has been a part of Hollywood’s story and its lore for a long time. I was watching THR’s writer’s roundtable some months ago and they were asked about this type of personality, with many of them stating there's no room for this behavior anymore. As a result, this type of personality has started to fade out as the times have changed in the industry. Twenty years ago, this wasn't the case.

Anyway, the point is, one related thing from the interview I learned from The Two Popes writer Anthony McCarten is that some people who worked with Harvey Weinstein actually had worked clauses into their contracts in order to enable them to get paid more if Harvey Weinstein yelled at them about something. He said he personally never worked for The Weinstein Company for that reason.

The story from Kate Beckinsale came just a few hours after Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison. Harvey Weinstein is currently 67 years old, and if he serves his full sentence, he will be 90 years of age before he gets out of jail.

In addition, the story also comes just a few short days after Jennifer Aniston was sort of brought into the Harvey Weinstein narrative after evidence of an email chain came out in which Weinstein glibly mentioned he thought Aniston should be killed. Women including Ashley Judd, Marvel actress Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose McGowan and more have all shared their Harvey Weinstein stories as well.

The past few years have seen a huge change in the film world and beyond. Conversations surrounding sexual assault and misconduct within the industry was kickstarted by the bombshell allegations made against powerful Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Although the New York Times' report of 25 years for the former producer is a hefty sum-- especially for a man of his age.

Countless actors and directors worked with Weinstein and his former film group, and there was a swift and visceral response from the community once the allegations against Weinstein were made public. His sentencing marks the end of a long journey, one that has plenty of strong feelings and memories tied to it.

Burke was the one who carried out sentencing at the Supreme Court in Manhattan. Given curtain acquittals involved in the charges brought against Weinstein resulted in a minimum of five years in prison. But the prosecution's case seems to have convinced Burke, who went for a more aggressive 25 year sentence. He heard witness testimony throughout the court proceedings, including the survivors of Weinstein's assault.

Harvey Weinstein is currently 67 years-old, so it's very possible that the former film industry titan will spend the rest of his life in prison. His defense highlighted Weinstein's age and health during the trial, no doubt hoping for a more merciful sentencing. That didn't come to fruition, with the Justice System ultimately siding with the survivors.

Sallie Hofmeister, a senior executive at Sitrick pr at the time forwarded Harvey Weinstein an email about the upcoming National Enquirer story, to which Weinstein responded:

While the comment seems to be a glib one, it’s still a window into the producer’s mind circa 2005 and relates to the a-listers he came into contact with every day. At the time the article was not published and Jennifer Aniston has not accused the producer of anything relating to sexual harassment or assault.

So, How Do We Know About The Email?

Page Six reported on the documents on Tuesday of this week, noting at the time that the email exchange was from 2005 but had been included in a set of documents that were made public after Harvey Weinstein was found guilty in his recent court case.

Meanwhile, this week Harvey Weinstein’s lawyers have laid down a plea asking the judge who will sentence Weinstein to consider his life circumstances before coming to a final verdict about the former producer’s jail time. With the conviction, Weinstein could face up to 29 years in prison, per TMZ. His legal team seems to be asking for closer to five years.

What Jennifer Aniston Has Said About Harvey Weinstein

Previously, Friends actress Jennifer Aniston wasn’t super involved in the Harvey Weinstein case. However, when the #MeToo movement was still in its infancy, Jennifer Aniston did speak out about her experience with the Hollywood head honcho, noting Weinstein was pushy about getting her to wear Marchesa to an event. She told Variety previously:

The event occurred when Jennifer Aniston was doing press for Derailed, a movie she filmed with Clive Owen for Harvey Weinstein’s company, also back in 2005. She stood her ground and did not ultimately wear the Marchesa dress and that is the only time she has accused Harvey Weinstein of any sort of bullying.

As a sidenote, Marchesa is a brand run by Harvey Weinstein’s now ex-wife Georgina Chapman. Other reports have indicated this was a favored tact by Weinstein to keep Marchesa as a red carpet favorite. Previously, Felicity Huffman (who is facing her own legal troubles) and others have confirmed they only wore the brand after Weinstein pushed for it.

Sentencing for the former Hollywood mogul is set to come down the pipeline this week.

The verdict in the Harvey Weinstein trial is in. The Hollywood mega producer, whose alleged behavior was one of the catalysts of the #MeToo movement, has been on trial in New York since earlier this month on five different charges relating to those allegations that could land him in prison for the rest of his life. Now, over two years since the allegations first surfaced, Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of sexual assault.

After deliberating for 26.5 hours, jurors in the New York trial have found Harvey Weinstein guilty. According to CNN, the former head of The Weinstein Company was found guilty of committing a criminal sex act involving one woman. He was also found guilty of rape in the third degree involving another woman. Harvey Weinstein was not found guilty though on all counts as the jury acquitted him of some of the more serious charges.

The breakdown is thus: Harvey Weinstein was found guilty on two out of the five counts against him. On Count two, where the movie mogul was charged with committing a criminal sexual act against Miriam Haley, a former Project Runway production assistant, Harvey Weinstein was found guilty. He was also found guilty of Count five, rape in the third degree of former aspiring actress Jessica Mann.

The sentencing guidelines for those two charge are as follows. For Count two, a criminal sexual act in the first degree, the guidelines recommend a sentence of at least five years in prison. For Count five, the charge of rape in the third degree, the guidelines allow for anything from probation to four years in prison. How much time Harvey Weinstein will spend in prison will not be determined until next month when sentencing takes place on March 11.

In addition to those two guilty convictions, there are three counts on which Harvey Weinstein was found not guilty. On Count four, rape in the first degree against Jessica Mann, Harvey Weinstein was found not guilty. He was also found not guilty on Counts one and three, the two predatory sexual assault charges against Miriam Haley and Jessica Mann.

Actress Annabella Sciorra's testimony was used by prosecutors to establish Harvey Weinstein's predatory behavior, so the not guilty verdict on these two charges indicate that the jury did not find beyond a reasonable doubt that Weinstein assaulted the actress. Those two charges were the most severe and had he been found guilty, predatory sexual assault is punishable by 10 years to life in prison based on the sentencing guidelines.

Following the verdict, Harvey Weinstein was remanded into custody. According to his publicist Juda Engelmayer, Harvey Weinstein's attorney is already going to the appellate court in order to file an appeal. On top of the New York case, Harvey Weinstein also faces additional criminal charges in a case in Los Angeles, where he is accused of sexually assaulting one woman and raping another in 2013.

So while Harvey Weinstein has now been found guilty and faces prison time, this story isn't going away anytime soon.

The Upside just passed the $100 million milestone at the domestic box office. It's only the second 2019 film to do that so far, after Glass. Did you see that coming? If so, good for you, 'cause no one else did.

Apparently the Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart drama wasn't expected to open to more than $10 million in its January release. But it opened to twice that -- becoming the first movie to topple Aquaman for #1 on the box office chart -- and it has kept quietly making money week after week.

As of Saturday, March 2, The Upside has made $111,588,620 worldwide, off a reported production budget of $37.5 million (per Box Office Mojo).

The Upside overcame many obstacles to get to this point.

As The Hollywood Reporter noted, The Upside was one of the final movies Harvey Weinstein made before his career blew up in the fall of 2017. The Upside also came out while Kevin Hart was named 2019 Oscars host, then came under fire for past comments seen as homophobic. Bryan Cranston even fielded some criticism for playing a disabled character. Things didn't look that great for the movie, at least behind-the-scenes.

The Upside was not a hit with critics either, only earning a 41% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However -- like so many films in the past year -- The Upside got a very different reaction from moviegoers. It currently has an 86% Audience Score on RT.

Apparently the box office also got an assist from older moviegoers. More than 10 percent of ticket buyers on The Upside's opening weekend were over 55. That's somewhat similar to The Mule, which also made more money than expected, thanks in part to older moviegoers. Take that, youth-obsessed Hollywood!

Lantern Entertainment inherited the film when it bought the assets of The Weinstein Co., and THR's sources estimate Lantern could see a return of $40M-$50M -- before talent participation -- from the box office, home entertainment, and other revenue sources. STXfilms distributed and co-marketed the film, which made enough to recoup the $25M-$35M spent on promotion, and STX may pick up about $12M-$14M from additional percentage points tied to box office milestones.

These are the surprise success stories studios hope for -- instead of biting their nails for Alita: Battle Angel, or just counting their losses for films like Mortal Engines and Replicas.

This weekend, the first in March, could see a tighter box office race than initially expected. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World may repeat at #1, or the final Madea film could pull out a surprise victory. As we've seen, box office analysts are often wrong about how much they think films will make.

The past year has been a harrowing and eye opening time for the entertainment world. A variety of powerful Hollywood men have been accused of sexual misconduct, ranging from harassment to assault. And while this wave has ruined the careers of many and started an important dialogue, it started with the Harvey Weinstein scandal. The formerly acclaimed producer has been accused of sexual misconduct by a variety of women, one of the most vocal being Oscar winning actress Mira Sorvino. Sorvino's reports about Weinstein's harassment were in the breaking story, but it appears she's been suffering from incidents like this at an even earlier age in the business. The Romy and Michelle icon recently revealed a time she was reportedly mistreated in an audition as a teenage actress, saying:

Well, this is disturbing. Coaching child actors is no doubt a challenge, but a casting director going so far and being physical with a 16 year old actress is certainly on another level. While Mira Sorvino didn't name any names in regards to the individual or movie, this harrowing story illustrates the systematic problem that seems to exist within the entertainment world.

Mira Sorvino's comments come from her recent appearance on the The HFPA in Conversation podcast. When talking about her career, Sorvino opened up about the types of sexual harassment she'd been subjected to from her decades in the business. And while her accusations against Harvey Weinstein are perhaps more high profile, this recent story shows that Sorvino has been dealing with inappropriate treatment for a long time.

Following the myriad accusations made against Harvey Weinstein, he was eventually arrested in May on rape charges, and posted a $1 million bail. Aside from the criminal proceedings currently happening against Weinstein, his downfall also proved as a catalyst for a ton of other similar accusations. Actor Kevin Spacey was notably fired from House of Cards after actor Anthony Rapp alleged he was sexually harassed by the actor as a teenager. And when crew members also came out with stories about Spacey, Frank Underwood was written out of the show for its final season. Other figures who have been accused of sexual misconduct include Louis C.K., Brett Ratner, and Danny Masterson.

Last October, the first sexual harassment allegations toward Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein were made public, which not only led to his dismissal from The Weinstein Company and numerous other consequences, but also kicked off the #MeToo and Time's Up movements. Now today brings word that Weinstein has been charged by the Manhattan District Attorney, which could ultimately end up seeing him imprisoned for life.

District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. announced today that a Manhattan Grand Jury has indicted Weinstein "on some of the most serious sexual offenses that exist under New York's Penal Law." Specifically, the producer has now been charged with an additional count of Sexual Assault in the First Degree and two counts of Predatory Sexual Assault. Back in late May, Harvey Weinstein was charged by the New York City Police Department with "rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct for incidents involving two separate women." If convicted on those charges, Weinstein could have faced as much as 25 years behind bars, but with these additional counts, now life in prison is on the table, or at minimum he could have another decade tacked on to a prison sentence.

After surrendering himself to the police on May 25, Harvey Weinstein was released on bail, surrendered his passport and agreed to wear an ankle bracelet that keeps him confined to New York and Connecticut. Weinstein plead not guilty on his previous indictment, and according to Deadline, he's expected to do the same for this new one when he appears in court for his next arraignment on July 9. Of course, these are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to legal action being taken against Weinstein. Nearly a dozen lawsuits have been filed against him by some of the more than 80 women who have accused him of sexually harassing and/or assaulting them. The Los Angeles Police Department and London's Metropolitan Police have also been conducting their own criminal investigations into the producer.

In addition to all the criminal and civil troubles Harvey Weinstein is facing, since the accusations against him started coming to light last fall, he's also been expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Weinstein Company also declared bankruptcy in the fallout of these revelations. It was rumored in late May that prior to turning himself over to the authorities, Weinstein wanted to tell his side of the story in a documentary. While such a project seems unlikely now, there is a movie in the works about the reporters who broke the story of Weinstein's actions.

Harvey Weinstein's public fall from grace is the sort of thing you might expect to see in the movies. It seems Harvey Weinstein himself may have thought so. A report has come out recently that claims that, prior to turning himself into police last week, Weinstein was reaching out to his contacts in the industry to try and get a documentary film made about the scandal. Reportedly, the former studio head wanted to tell his side of the story.

The report comes from Page Six, which gets its information from an unnamed source, and Weinstein's representatives deny this happened at all, so nothing here is entirely clear. However, the source claims Harvey Weinstein had been in communication with many industry contacts about a potential documentary film from his point of view.

It was the end of last year when the first allegations against the head of The Weinstein Company showed up in print. Harvey Weinstein was accused of various forms of sexual harassment and misconduct with numerous women over the years that he had been a major player in the film industry. Over the ensuing weeks and months, more accusations began to be made, not only against Weinstein, but against numerous others in the entertainment industry, by women seemingly strengthened by the support being offered to the victims in the Weinstein affair. Things came to a head this past week when Weinstein turned himself over to authorities in Tribeca on charges of rape and related sexual assault.

The report doesn't seem to indicate that anybody who was allegedly contracted about this documentary idea was in any way receptive to the concept. It would seem to be a delicate tightrope to walk. Clearly, if Harvey Weinstein were looking to film a documentary, he was planning to make something sympathetic to his point of view, which certainly wouldn't be popular with Weinstein's accusers or their supports. It seems unlikely that anybody would want to get too deeply involved in this scandal right now.

Which doesn't mean that we won't be seeing movies about the Weinstein scandal in one form or another. It's already been reported that a deal is in the works to see a dramatic adaptation of the work of New York Times Reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey who originally broke the Weinstein story. The idea that we could see a documentary film about the events seems quite likely at some point, but odds are any attempt will try to take a neutral tone rather than the single perspective this idea would reportedly have had.

Of course, the other thing that needs to happen before any movie can really be made is that the story needs to have a definitive ending, and we're pretty far away from that moment now, so the rest will have to wait.

It's been months and months since numerous allegations began being levied at Harvey Weinstein, leading to his firing from The Weinstein Company, as well as investigations and lawsuits. Many women, from a-list actors to smaller players in the industry, have spoken out about their experiences with Weinstein, but new stories are still coming out. Case in point, Gwyneth Paltrow recently appeared on The Howard Stern Show on Sirius XM to talk about how her then-boyfriend Brad Pitt, and how he came to her aid, confronting Harvey Weinstein when he made a pass at her. After telling Pitt what happened, the couple saw Weinstein at Hamlet, and she says Pitt stepped up and made it clear the behavior was unacceptable. Per Paltrow:

Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow dated between 1994 and 1997, and appeared in Seven together during that time. The relationship doesn't have nearly as much prominence as Pitt's former relationships with Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie, nor do they have as much prominence as Paltrow's marriage to Coldply frontman Chris Martin or her relationship with Brad Falchuk. However, for a time the couple was hot and heavy and was even engaged, and Gwyneth Paltrow even spoke out previously on The Howard Stern Show about why that relationship fizzled, noting that Brad Pitt was "was too good for me." Regardless, it sounds like Brad Pitt definitely came through for the actress while they were dating.

This time during her Howard Stern appearance, she also touched on what happened in the hotel room with Harvey Weinstein, noting,

This isn't the first time Gwyneth Paltrow has addressed what happened with Harvey Weinstein. She previously revealed that she was 22 when Harvey Weinstein got her the lead in Emma. She said she met him at the Peninsula Beverly Hills Hotel for a work meeting, saying she "was a kid" at the time. Previously, she got a little more into depth with what happened when Harvey Weinstein pursued her, noting that she thought she was going into a work meeting, but that Weinstein tried to get her to go into a bedroom "for massages." At the time, she mentioned Brad Pitt knew, but now we know how Brad Pitt reacted.

There have been a lot of reports of Harvey Weinstein attempting to coerce starlets into doing things for him in hotel rooms. Gwyneth Paltrow says she was able to refuse the producer's advances, and her story is only one of many that have come to light in recent months. Since then, The Weinstein Company has filed for bankruptcy, Harvey Weinstein's wife has filed for divorce, and the stories have led to the Me Too movement becoming prominent in Hollywood. J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings had already been a literary staple for decades by the time the movie adaptations came out, but the big screen versions of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King have also managed to stand on their own as cinematic triumphs. What started as an ambitious film project that took eight years to fully realize resulted in three movies that were widely praised by critics and moviegoers alike. However, if producer Harvey Weinstein had his way with the first Lord of the Rings movie when it was still at Miramax, we would have gotten a significantly different version of the classic Tolkien tale, one which could have seen Quentin Tarantino behind the camera rather than Peter Jackson.

In the new book Anything You Can Imagine: The Making of Middle-Earth, author Ian Nathan writes (via Stuff) that even when The Lord of the Rings was being developed as two movies rather than a trilogy, Harvey Weinstein believed that Peter Jackson had "wasted" $12 million working on such a script. According to producer Ken Kamins, who worked with Weinstein during this period, Weinstein demanded that Jackson turn Lord of the Rings into one two-hour movie, and if he didn't comply, he would replaced with Quentin Tarantino, who Weinstein had already worked with for several years at this point. Shakespeare in Love director John Madden was also thrown in as another replacement director candidate.

The Lord of the Rings movies are certainly among the longer cinematic offerings, but if Peter Jackson had done as Harvey Weinstein requested, several of The Fellowship of the Ring's best sequences and a few of its characters would have been cut. Jackson subsequently received a Miramax memo dated June 17, 1998 that pitched "a more radical, streamlined approach" that would have allowed Lord of the Rings to be told in just one movie, but Jackson knew this wasn't the right course of action, so he contacted Ken Kamins and told him that he and his partner Fran Walsh couldn't make the movie that Weinstein wanted. Fortunately for Lord of the Rings fans, Kamins convinced Weinstein to let Jackson shop his Lord of the Rings treatment to other studios. New Line Cinema expressed interest, and the rest is history.

While a Quentin Tarantino-directed The Lord of the Rings sounds is certainly fun to think about, as a fully-realized movie, I doubt I'm alone in thinking that he wouldn't have been the right creative mind to tackle a project of this scale. Even assuming that Tarantino's love of gore and violence would have fit in since the Lord of the Rings movies are filled with battle scenes, having Gandalf drop f-bombs in every other sentence or Frodo sprinkling in Middle-Earth pop culture references wouldn't have gone over well, not to mention that it would have been less accessible to younger moviegoers.

While it's been a decade and half since Lord of the Rings film trilogy concluded and four years since the last Hobbit movie came out, Amazon is dropping around $500 million on a TV series that will take place before The Fellowship of the Ring and showcase new adventures. While not 100% guaranteed, it's probably safe to say that Quentin Tarantino won't be involved with this project either.

In recent months, Hollywood has been making headlines for what's been going on behind the scenes. Now, it appears that the story of Harvey Weinstein is going to move in front of the camera as well. Two production studios have partnered to acquire the rights to the story of the reporters who first broke the story of Harvey Weinstein, which led to a flood of women coming forward regarding other people in power, which became the Me Too and Time's Up movements.

Annapurna, who co-produced last year's Detroit and Phantom Thread, and Plan B, behind films like Moonlight and The Big Short, are partnering to put together a film about New York Times Reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, the pair who originally broke the story about the allegations of misconduct against Harvey Weinstein. The focus of the movie is being compared to Spotlight and All the President's Men, as the movie won't be about Weinstein specifically, but will instead focus on the reporters as they investigate the allegations and eventually publish the story while dealing with threats of litigation and intimidation.

Interesting, according to Deadline, the deal for the rights to the New York Times reporters' story has come after the paper made a deal with a production company Anonymous Content specifically to get the stories of its investigative reports turned into film and television projects. It seems that after seeing Steven Spielberg make The Post, about the Washington Post's involvement in the Pentagon Papers, when the New York Times was actually the paper to break the story, has caused The Times to make sure they don't get scooped like that again.

It's far from surprising to see Hollywood look to make a quick turn around on this story. It's still a major headline in the news right now. True stories do well attracting an audience, and the fresher the news the better. Considering how well movies like The Post and Spotlight have been received in recent years, making the focus of the film the reporters rather than the scandal itself also makes a lot of sense. It will give the story clear heroes to root for, rather than simply focusing on the potentially difficult terrain of the scandal. The two reporters shared a Pulitzer Prize for their report.

No time frame was announced on the potential project, even with the rights being secured now there will still need to be a script written before the movie can actually go into production. Still, one would expect this one will be put on the fast track in order to ensure it hits screens as soon as possible.

It's been quite some time since we first heard Lin-Manuel Miranda was on board for a movie version of his first Tony-winning musical In The Heights. About a year ago, we learned John M. Chu was interested in directing, and the project seemed to be moving forward in development, with none other than The Weinstein Company. Given the tumultuous last several months the company has faced, In The Heights has been stuck in limbo and now that The Weinstein Company has gone into bankruptcy, the team behind the In The Heights movie project has finally nabbed the rights to the property back.

Because the film didn't go into production before the end of 2017, the rights to In The Heights recently reverted back to Lin-Manuel Miranda, Quiara Alegría Hudes and co. The latter is a playwright and composer who wrote the original book for In The Heights, with Lin-Manuel Miranda writing the music and lyrics. The movie project isn't out of hot water yet, however. According to a report from Deadline, once The Weinstein Company goes to court over bankruptcy proceedings, there could be follow-ups to the project in court. Regardless, it looks as if Miranda and Hudes will be trying to sell the movie to a different studio, presumably one that is not dealing with bankruptcy court.

We'll have to wait and see what happens; however, it's likely that In The Heights could be a good fit for a studio in the current climate. Musical-oriented movies have done better than expected of late. La La Land was a critically acclaimed hit in 2016. During the holiday season, The Greatest Showman also far exceeded expectations at the box office, earning more than $415 million worldwide on an $84 million budget. There's certainly room for In The Heights in the current movie landscape, especially considering Lin-Manuel Miranda is such a big name these days, thanks to Hamilton.

Reportedly, In The Heights and The Six Billion Dollar Man have found new homes just before bankruptcy proceedings get underway. Previously, The Weinstein Company was able to sell off other assets, including Paddington 2, but that came with its own set of challenges. Other films that are currently tied up with The Weinstein Company will have to wait until bankruptcy proceedings are over to move forward or change hands in any capacity. This includes both finished movies (among them both Mary Magdalene and The War with Grandpa) and projects that are in development hell for a little while longer.

For a while it looked as if The Weinstein Company would avoid bankruptcy by selling to Maria Contreras-Sweet and co. Unfortunately, the sale fell through reportedly due to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's interest in investigating Harvey Weinstein, and The Weinstein Company was forced to declare bankruptcy. We'll keep you updated as the case moves forward, but in the meantime, we can hope that In The Heights will finally find a studio that can get it off of the ground.

In the past 13 years, Project Runway fans have watched 16 seasons full of fashion successes, fashion faux pas, and everything in between. But the long-running reality hit's future is in jeopardy right now after its parent studio The Weinstein Co. declared bankruptcy, and there's a decent chance Project Runway may be over before Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn got the chance to show us what Season 17 would look like.

Back in 2016, Lifetime announced that it was ordering three more seasons of Project Runway to follow Season 15, with the most recent batch of episodes wrapping this past November. But the gameplan changed in the wake of the sexual misconduct controversy surrounding producer Harvey Weinstein. According to Variety, some bankruptcy paperwork filed this week noted that Lifetime apparently cancelled the three-season deal in January, citing The Weinstein Co. as having breached the agreement due to not operating a lawful workplace, for not having notified A&E of any potential legal claims, and for the failure to follow A&E's own standards and practices. (A&E claims to have alerted The Weinstein Co. of said breaches back in November.) Further, Lifetime had also pulled the plug on a different licensing agreement in place for a Project Runway movie.

Of The Weinstein Co.'s assets, the model-friendly series has quite a bit of value, but in part because of the deal with Lifetime and A&E. Without the cable entities behind the show, It's hard to know how valuable the property is. So quite obviously, if Project Runway has any shot at continuing on in its current form, changes will need to be made somewhere.

Luckily for fans, it's said that A&E is looking into acquiring the Project Runway library from The Weinstein Co., and is also reportedly negotiating with Lantern Capital to take over future seasons, with Lantern having bid upwards of $310 million for the majority of the Weinstein Co. assets. It would make a lot of sense for A&E to want full creative control over Project Runway after nearly a decade of producing it. That could even lead to more spinoffs beyond just Project Runway All-Stars and Project Runway Junior. But that's only if the acquisition goes through, and it's impossible to know how long it would take to make any of that happen.

Over the last couple of months, The Weinstein Company worked to find a buyer and thus avoid bankruptcy. At one point it looked like the company that Harvey Weinstein built would be bought out, would have its name changed, and would create a new workplace environment catered toward women, with breastfeeding rooms and more. All that fell through, and this week The Weinstein Company filed for bankruptcy. In addition, the company cancelled all of the non-disclosure agreements it had signed during the reign of Harvey Weinstein.

The bankruptcy filing, which officially happened on Monday, prompted the company to open up each and every one of the non-disclosure agreements, which means those who were silenced by the agreements may speak freely in the future. New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman has been investigating what happened during Harvey Weinstein's tenure at the studio. It has been his investigation that may have led to the deal between Maria Contreras-Sweet and buyers and The Weinstein Company to initially fall apart. Following the Contreras-Sweet deal losing steam, it seemed as if the company would file for bankruptcy and now it has done so.

About the NDAs, the company noted in a statement (via the New York Times),

Currently, Harvey Weinstein has been removed from his positions of power in Hollywood. He was fired from his role at The Weinstein Company and was kicked out of the Academy for Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. However, this may only have been the start to his troubles, as groups in New York, Los Angeles and London are looking into criminal cases against him. Another woman, Kadian Noble, is pursuing a lawsuit accusing Harvey Weinstein of sex trafficking at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.

The Weinstein Company is also dealing with the ramifications of all of Harvey Weinstein's alleged behavior over the years. The company also faces bankruptcy and additional lawsuits. The company even sold the rights to Paddington 2 to recover some of its costs a few months ago; however, now TWC is even being sued over Paddington 2. So, there's a lot that has gone on since the initial allegations against Weinstein came to light.

In the aftermath of all of this Maria Contreras-Sweet and co. pulled out and now with the bankruptcy announcement the company has Lantern Capitol as a "stalking horse bidder," which should keep the company from not having to take low bids. An auction will happen, and the court should supervise all of the bids that come in. Right now, the future of The Weinstein Company is still uncertain, but we'll keep you updated as more news develops. In the meantime, with the NDAs no longer an obstacle in the way of the investigation of Harvey Weinstein, that story seems far from over, as well.

The Weinstein Company has gone through several months of turmoil and loss after former figurehead Harvey Weinstein was outed in public as an alleged sexual predator. In the time since Harvey Weinstein became synonymous with the #MeToo movement, The Weinstein Company has begun facing numerous lawsuits and has been forced to sell off major assets as a direct result. For a while, buyers were sniffing around the company, and it seemed as if The Weinstein Company would move forward, albeit with a different name. However, that no longer looks to be holding true, as this week The Weinstein Company announced it would be filing for bankruptcy.

Earlier in February, discussions were ongoing about a potential sale when on February 11, the Attorney General's office filed a lawsuit against The Weinstein Company. The lawsuit was a civil rights lawsuit, and one that got a lot of press, especially after Attorney General Eric Schneiderman came out strongly against the sale. He also noted that The Weinstein Company's David Glasser did not do enough to protect women from Harvey Weinsten during his tenure at The Weinstein Company. Glasser was still working for The Weinstein Company at the time, but he was fired after Schneiderman came out against him and now proposes to also sue for "wrongful termination."

Deal talks were still ongoing through all of this mess but were halted after talks last Wednesday. Now, the board of directors released a statement about the decision (via The LA Times), noting,

Previously, we learned that The Weinstein Company was hoping to change names and workplace cultures by selling to Maria Contreras-Sweet and an investor group, who emerged as the sole bidders a few weeks ago. At the time, we also learned the company was planning on adding a victim fund but also changing the culture as a whole, catering more meals and including areas for women to breastfeed. The victim fund was apparently one of the things the Attorney General was lambasting, and the board of The Weinstein Company was reportedly concerned Maria Contrerar-Sweet and co. weren't doing enough in the proposal to satisfy the Attorney General's office.

With no buyer, bankruptcy looks like it will be the next step. The Weinstein Company has already sold a lot of its valuable assets, including Paddington 2, but even that led to a lawsuit. It's tough to keep track of the myriad lawsuits the company is facing, but we'll keep you updated as this story moves forward.

Harvey Weinstein has been dealing with a slew of lawsuits since news first broke about his alleged treatment of various women he worked with in the movie business. One of these women was his ex-assistant Sandeep Rehal, who worked for Weinstein between 2013 and the early part of 2015 and who is now suing the former Hollywood mogul for putting her through duress. This includes reportedly cleaning up his semen and also having to dictate while he sat in front of her naked.

The new lawsuit was filed on Thursday, and states that Sandeep Rehal was put into "a personal and severe sexually hostile work environment." During the time she was employed by Harvey Weinstein, she says her boss often called her a "cunt" and a "pussy." Weekly, the suit alleges she was asked to take email dictation from Weinstein while he was naked. She also notes she was asked to "stock Caverject shots" (which are used for erectile dysfunction) and "clean up the semen" on a couch in Harvey Weinstein's office. All of these tasks led Sandeep Rehal to "severe emotional distress" as well as anxiety, according to the lawsuit.

Per a statement given to The Wrap, Harvey Weinstein has denied the various claims from Sandeep Rehal.

This isn't the first time Harvey Weinstein has been sued. Back in December, Harvey Weinstein, The Weinstein Company and Miramax were sued by a group of women over the alleged misconduct. Their filing can be viewed here. Earlier this month, in a complicated lawsuit, Weinstein was also sued for allegedly asking an attorney to interfere with Paz de la Huerta, who had previously alleged the former Weinstein Company producer raped her. Another lawsuit cites a 2010 incident with actress Dominique Huett, who claims Weinstein asked her to perform oral sex on him in exchange for a better career. Yet another lawsuit involves a husband and wife team who are suing The Weinstein Company after the program they were working on for Amazon was pulled by that latter company. The fallout from the initial allegations has been widespread.

Lawsuits like this have trickled out after a report in October explained Harvey Weinstein's alleged behavior. Subsequently, Weinstein was fired from The Weinstein Company for alleged misconduct and the company has tried to distance itself from the former powerful producer. Actresses and others who have worked in close proximity with Weinstein have also come out to share their stories in the time since, and the producer has stopped working in the industry. Now, The Weinstein Company even plans to change names. More lawsuits may be forthcoming, and if that happens, we'll keep you updated. In the meantime, it looks as if The Weinstein Company sale will be going through shortly.

The Golden Globes are typically a rather raucous affair, with actors and filmmakers using the show to drink a bit too much and get silly. That wasn't really the tone of the 2018 proceedings, with the run of recent news out of Hollywood casting a shadow over the event, but that didn't stop some legitimately funny jokes from being told, and hilarious moments from going down. The Harvey Weinstein In Memorium Joke

Nowadays, Harvey Weinstein's name might as well be a curse word in Hollywood, and Seth Meyers treated it as such at the Golden Globes. He rightly pointed out that it's going to be a long, long time before Weinstein is mentioned at any awards show for years to come. Specifically, it will be 20 years from now during the In Memorial reel... and receive a round of boos. As noted by Meyers, the joke got a reaction from the audience that accurately predicted what it will sound like then -- but it just got laughs here at home.

Willem Dafoe Reacts To His Own Name

In recent months, distressing news has been erupting from Hollywood regularly, with actors constantly being called out for their absolutely horrible and horrific behavior out of the public eye over the years. It's gotten to a point where a context-less mention of any male star in public conversation will immediately illicit some worried requests for more details. Seth Meyers recognized this current atmosphere in his opening monologue, using a namedrop of "Willem Defoe" as an example -- and it turned out to be a perfect choice. The look on Dafoe's face was priceless, and gave us one of the funniest moments of the night.

"I've done a lot of indies and it's nice to be in a movie people see."

Sam Rockwell has a handful of $100 million movies on his resume, including Iron Man 2, The Green Mile, and Charlie's Angels, but the bulk of his career has been spent making smaller features with smaller budgets. This has resulted in him never really getting a ton of mainstream attention... but that changed majorly tonight. Winning the Best Supporting Actor prize for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Rockwell took home his first major award, and helped earn one of the best movies of the year a lot of positive attention (the wins for Best Actress -- Drama, Best Screenplay, and Best Picture -- Drama didn't hurt either). Of course, the big funny here is that Three Billboards has only made $25.3 million to date domestically - though that number could certainly grow much bigger in coming weeks if Fox Searchlight continues to put it in more theaters (as it did this past weekend).

Seth Rogen Describes His First Experience With The Room

There are plenty of movies that wind up with odd distribution methods, utilized in order to qualify for awards season, but the way The Room found its way to audience was far stranger than anything even remotely similar. Writer/director Tommy Wiseau funded a billboard campaign that had his phone number on it, allowing people to call and ask for tickets, and apparently Seth Rogen was one of the people who actually dialed the number. Rogen told this story while preparing the crowd for a preview of Best Picture -- Comedy/Musical The Disaster Artist, and just reflecting on the absurdity of it all made for one of the most smile-inducing moments of the entire show.

James Franco Keeps Tommy Wiseau Away From The Mic

As anyone who has seen The Room or The Disaster Artist can attest, Tommy Wiseau is a bit of a wild card. An enigma in every sense of the world, you never really know how he is going to act or what he is going to say at any given moment. Because of this, it's definitely best to keep him away from any live microphone, and that's exactly what James Franco did this evening. While the Best Actor -- Comedy/Musical winner was giving his acceptance speech, Wiseau made his way to the stage and tried to say something about the moment himself, but Franco made the wise decision to stop him. We may never know what he was going to say.

The 75th Golden Globes are underway, and as with a lot of award ceremonies, it kicked off with a monologue from the host. Seth Meyers is handling those duties this year, and a lot of his material was directed towards the numerous sexual abuse allegations that have rocked Hollywood over the last few months; all of which were triggered by the reports about Harvey Weinstein, one of Hollywood's top producers for more than two decades. So needless to say Meyers couldn't resist dropping a joke about the former studio mogul, but it was a particularly vicious jab about what'll happen when Weinstein is dead. In Meyers' words:

This joke immediately triggered 'oohs' and groans from the audience, to which Seth Meyers responded, "It'll sound like that." There were plenty of other memorable jokes from Seth Meyers' Golden Globes monologue, like when he asked if Christopher Plummer would replace Kevin Spacey on House of Cards, but when people look back on this, no doubt many will remember this Harvey Weinstein joke as the most biting comment from the host.

Back in early October of last year, The New York Times and The New Yorker published allegations from several women about how he'd sexually abused and harassed them, with some even accusing him of raping them. Since then, more than 80 women have accused Weinstein of such acts, including actresses like Rose McGowan, Paz de la Huerta and Asia Argento. Director Peter Jackson has also claimed that Weinstein told him not to hire Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd for the Lord of the Rings movies, which Jackson now believes was part of a smear campaign from Miramax, the studio Weinstein once ran.

Although Harvey Weinstein publicly continues to deny any allegations of sexual harassment, he's faced numerous consequences since the first reports trickled in. This includes him being booted from The Weinstein Company, being expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and being the subject of separate criminal and civil rights investigations. The Weinstein scandal also led to many women sharing their experiences of sexual assault and harassment online under the #MeToo hashtag. According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, it looks like The Weinstein Company may be close to selling for somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 million. This potential sale is not phenomenal news for Weinstein insiders; because, with the cost of running the business (not to mention the added expense of paying for legal representation), a significant amount of that price is ultimately going to cover the assumption of debt on the part of the buyers. Several potential buyers are in the mix at this point (such as Lionsgate), and bids range from total control of the company to valuable assets that wouldn't require the buyer to take on certain legal responsibilities.

Looking at this situation purely from a movies point of view, the sale of The Weinstein Company (as well as the controversy surrounding the institution) represents a watershed moment for the entertainment industry as a whole. For years, the Weinsteins have stood as kingmakers in the world of film, and their company has produced some landmark films like Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, David O. When discussing celebrities in the news, it's important to get the pronunciation of their names right. And in 2017, there were two major names that had newsreaders, linguists, and even just the general public a bit confused. So much so that those names ended up among the most mispronounced words throughout all of 2017. Those names were that of Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot, and controversial producer Harvey Weinstein's surname.

In the case of Gal Gadot, her last name is what is frequently the problem for some to pronounce, as the popular pronunciation was similar to that of the titular character in Waiting For Gadot, which is pronounced as "Ga-dough." However, the proper way to pronounce the actor's last name is exactly as it's spelled, as "Ga-dot," serving as one of those cases where the simplest solution is the one that's correct.

Meanwhile, Babbel has reported that the common mispronunciation of Harvey Weinstein's last name has some arguing that his name should sound just like famed physicist Albert Einstein's. But, common usage comes to the table once again, with the pronunciation of "Wine-steen" being the one that's attached to the name of the man who was once one of Hollywood's most influential producers. Obviously, this is a bit of a hot topic, as both Gadot and Weinstein have been pretty big figures when it came to discussing the world of moviemaking in 2017.

On the more positive end of the spectrum, Gal Gadot rose to meteoric fame this year with the jubilant reaction fans had to her performance in DC's Wonder Woman film. Currently sitting as the ninth highest grossing film worldwide and third highest grossing film domestically in 2017, the Warner Bros. film became the highest grossing superhero origin story, blazing a trail for female directors and female led comic films to take up the baton and start conquering the typically male dominated market. Weinstein, on the other hand, gained notoriety for a slew of allegations involving various acts of sexual misconduct, coming from numerous women who worked with him or were present with him at some point through his decades long career.

As for some of the other words that were mispronounced in 2017, they didn't all have to do Hollywood. Reports indicate that ice hockey star Mark Scheifele also made the Canadian version of the list, as did baseball player Justin Smoak. Outside of the celebrity spectrum, people in the States still have trouble pronouncing words like "nuclear" and "dotard," the latter of which I didn't even know was still in common use. With both notable figures in the news quite a bit in 2017, that's a lot of mispronunciations and permutations of both Gal Gadot and Harvey Weinstein's names that have occurred within the calendar year. Hopefully, this means that in the end, both of their names will be better pronounced in 2018, seeing as the world has had tons of practice with both. Though now the question seems to be who will make the list next? Only time will tell.

The first sexual abuse allegations directed towards film producer Harvey Weinstein were made public in early October, and now over two months later and with 2017 nearly over, new information is still coming out about the Hollywood mogul's behavior. Since this scandal broke, Weinstein has been dismissed from The Weinstein Company, expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the list of consequences goes on. Weinstein continues to deny these allegations, but according to a new report, he tried to raise $25 million from Netflix for himself before the scandal broke.

Weeks before The New York Times and The New Yorker published their stories about the numerous women who claimed that Harvey Weinstein sexually harassed/assaulted them, Weinstein, who know these articles were coming, reportedly approached Netflix, wanting to secure "emergency cash" from the streaming service. At the time, Weinstein didn't reveal why he wanted so much money, but according to insiders who spoke with Page Six, he was looking to sell part of his extensive movie catalog to Netflix to the tune of $25 million. However, Netflix execs passed on this deal. According to another source, Weinstein approach Netflix in the context of wanting "hush money," but rather to present the company with a business opportunity. Weinstein also allegedly went to other companies for money, though it's unclear if he had sought approval from The Weinstein Company's board to do this.

Harvey Weinstein was already in business with Netflix long before the sexual abuse allegations against him started pouring in. The streaming service airs the UK TV series Peaky Blinders, which Weinstein imported in for the United States, and The Weinstein Company was also behind Marco Polo, one of Netflix's expensive shows, and was cancelled after two seasons. It was recently reported that Weinstein is believed to have spent a lot of money hiring lawyers and Mossad-trained investigators to discredit the women who were accusing him of sexual harassment. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance is also looking into whether or not Weinstein embezzled funds from The Weinstein Company or his former company Miramax to bribe some of his accusers to stay silent.

This Netflix story is just the latest update to come out of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Last week, director Peter Jackson revealed that Miramax told him not to hire Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino for his Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Jackson now believes that this request was made as a way to discredit Weinstein's accusers. This scandal has also led to many other men in the movie and television industries to be accused of sexual misconduct, from Kevin Spacey to Louis CK to Danny Masterson.

Harvey Weinstein has faced a series of allegations since news first broke alleging he had sexually harassed and/or assaulted the likes of Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan, among other women, during his lengthy career as a Hollywood producer. Other, more recent, allegations followed, and this week, British actress Kadian Noble filed a civil suit in court that notes Harvey Weinstein reportedly forced her into sexual acts back in 2014, while she was abroad. The suit claims that The Weinstein Company violated federal sex trafficking law thanks to the reported encounter between Weinstein and Noble.

The alleged encounter occurred at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. At the time, Kadian Noble says she thought Harvey Weinstein was going to be able to make her a big name in Hollywood. He asked her to come to his hotel room at the film festival, mentioning a potential movie role. After she went upstairs to his room at the Majestic Hotel, she says he touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her in a bathroom.

Kadian Noble's lawyer, Jeff Herman, filed a lawsuit this week and has noted to USA Today that he believes fits into the definition of Federal Sex Trafficking Law. He says the reason it fits is because it "allows" his team to file a claim in the US that actually occurred while overseas. The Cannes Film Festival happens in Cannes on the French Riviera.

The actress spoke out on CBS News this morning to share her story, noting that she hasn't been the same person since the incident.

The alleged incident shares some of the similarities of previous allegations against Weinstein. It involves a hotel room, a discussion about a role, some unwanted touching, with a goal toward a sexual encounter. One key point in this particular story involves the Weinstein Company itself. The actress claims she called a producer for the Weinstein company who told her to be a "good girl." The company has repeatedly denied knowledge of or involvement in Weinstein's sexual behavior. If it were proven to be complicit, it would likely open the door to more lawsuits and legal exposure for the company.

The Weinstein Company has sold off popular movies like Paddington 2 in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Dealing with debts and mounting pressure, some analysts have expected the company to file for bankruptcy, but that hasn't happened, yet. Last week, TWC continued to attempt to sell off major properties as The Weinstein Company brand is rather toxic in Hollywood right now. The Weinstein Company fired Harvey Weinstein back in October after numerous allegations surfaced.

A scandal surrounding sexual harassment allegations against former Hollywood bigwig Harvey Weinstein has rocked the world in 2017, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit intends to tackle the controversy. Given that SVU has been telling stories about sexual harassment and violence for nearly two decades now, it's not a huge surprise that the show will doing a sort of ripped-from-the-headlines story about this particular scandal. As it turns out, however, SVU's take on what happened might take some viewers by surprise. Executive producer Michael Chernuchin said this about how SVU will tackle the issue:

Yes, it seems that the Law & Order: SVU version of the Harvey Weinstein scandal in Hollywood won't take place in the realm of showbiz at all. Instead, according to Michael Chernuchin's comments to EW, the detectives will be called upon for a case involving airline pilots. It's entirely possible that the episode won't even mention Weinstein, unless it's revealed that the Weinstein scandal exists in the SVU universe. The show doesn't always add real-life events to its plots, and Weinstein could be an example.

The Weinstein scandal being folded into an episode about airline workers should make for an interesting episode, as most of us probably wouldn't associate what happened with Weinstein with what will happen in SVU's version of the airline industry, especially considering that the episode was already being written. Any hour of television touching on the Weinstein scandal is going to draw a lot of attention; we can only hope that SVU handles the delicate issue in a way that works for fans. The show has handled past real-life cases well enough.

The episode is set to air at some point in 2018, so we may not have to wait too long. I have to wonder if perhaps SVU will cover the Weinstein story more directly at a later date, although there's no guarantee of a Season 20 or beyond at this point. We'll have to wait and see.

On Tuesday, November 14, Rose McGowan turned herself over for arrest by authorities at the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office in Virginia. The news comes but weeks after a spokesperson for The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department made a public statement about a warrant out for McGowan's arrest over felony drug charges. The 44-year-old actress and activist got booked and released after posting a $5,000 bail. She also got a mugshot, which you can see here:

Supposedly, an item Rose McGowan inadvertently left on a United Airlines flight to Washington D.C. in January tested positive for narcotics when officials at Washington Dulles International Airport examined it. In response, the Magistrate's Office of Loudoun County, Virginia, issued a felony warrant for McGowan's arrest on February 1.

As E! tells it, The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department allegedly tried to contact Rose McGowan several times throughout the year. Their supposed efforts proved futile, so they circulated a bench warrant for McGowan's arrest and sent out documents to a national law enforcement database.

When word of the warrant finally made its way to the former Charmed actress, she took to Twitter to blast the officials behind the situation. McGowan called the matter "horseshit" and directly questioned if the warrant was but another attempt to silence her in the wake of her vocalizing allegations of sexual misconduct in Hollywood. However, when McGowan tweeted about her awareness of the bench warrant, the officials working on the case decided to make their public statement.

Apparently, paranoia was at the crux of Rose McGowan's hesitation to turn herself in for the arrest, but she decided to face the problem head-on when the officials made the issue public. Now, according to Entertainment Weekly, McGowan's lawyer claims there was plenty of time for someone else to intercept the wallet while it was out of McGowan's possession. In fact, McGowan herself said,

Rose McGowan also denied she uses cocaine. McGowan said she was in Washington D.C. to attend the Women's March on Washington, and she would never have wanted a drug like cocaine in her system for such an event.

Since Rose McGowan's arrest and release this week, the Grindhouse actress has spoken out about her perspective of what went down at the airport and why she plans to plead not guilty. McGowan told The New Yorker the entire ordeal was over a wallet of hers that went missing. McGowan said she left it on her seat when she went to the bathroom on the plane, but it wasn't until after she exited the plane that she realized she had forgotten it.

Later, Rose McGowan reporetedly reached out to United Airlines for help. However, it was an investigator rather than a United Airlines employee who ended up calling her. McGowan first thought it was someone with ties to a nefarious plot to scare her into silence, after she tweeted about getting raped by a movie executive, whom she later indicated was Harvey Weinstein. Thus the cycle of paranoia began and kept McGowan from submitting to authorities until this week.

It sounds like this issue will be a big, ongoing facet of the big, ongoing stories about Rose McGowan this year. We'll have to stay tuned to see what happens.

Paddington 2 has already been advertised throughout the U.S. It has been set for a January 12, 2018 release date in U.S. theaters and it's still likely to move forward. Regardless, recent reports indicate The Weinstein Company is trying to offload the movie as the studio works to begin the process of filing for bankruptcy protection following the recent Harvey Weinstein allegations.

Paddington 2 is getting distributed in the U.S. at a different time than in the U.K. The movie has already premiered in the U.K. over the weekend, and had a very good first weekend, making $10.9 million at the box office there. It also should be noted that the first movie was a big cash cow for The Weinstein Company, and was the fourth biggest movie the company has every worked on in terms of overall earnings. Variety notes that The Weinstein Company may be up to $500 million in "debt and obligations" so even selling off one movie like Paddington 2 could be a real boon for the company. Sony and MGM are currently being touted as the studios that could be potential buyers of the live-action family movie.

Paddington 2 was actually put together by Heydey Films, which co-produced both the first and second Paddington-oriented movies alongside StudioCanal. It's in the United States where The Weinstein Company even comes in, as TWC still currently owns the distribution rights to the upcoming flick. It's a subject that the makers of Paddington 2 have already stated they are disturbed about, noting as recently as mid-October that it has been "deeply frustrating" that Paddington 2 has been connected with the Harvey Weinstein allegations that broke around that time.

In this situation, it sounds as if what would be good for The Weinstein Company would also be good for Heydey Films and StudioCanal. The latter two studios want to sell Paddington 2 to further distance themselves from the Weinstein scandal. The Weinstein Company itself is likely looking to unload Paddington 2 to get rid of the valuable asset before assets are frozen or an outside party is appointed to approve or disapprove all company matters, as can happen with bankruptcy filings. If the company can sell off the film now, it can presumably control where the cash goes.

Obviously, Paddington 2's domestic distribution rights haven't changed hands yet, and StudioCanal would have a say on whatever studio the movie went to. In addition, The Weinstein Company has yet to file for bankruptcy protection, although reports indicate that should be imminent. We'll let you know if and when either of these things happen. For now, though, we can only hope that Paddington 2 is able to stick with its January of 2018 release date. Here's what else is coming up during the new year.

It's a sobering time in the entertainment industry, as formerly respected figures in Hollywood are being accused of sexual misconduct on almost a daily basis. After allegations began pouring in about Harvey Weinstein, resulting in his firing from both his company and the film academy, the floodgates truly opened. A bevy of actors, directors, and producers have now been accused of using their power to influence, assault, or harass others, with their careers seemingly being ended in the process. And now Star Trek actor and pop culture icon George Takei has been accused of assaulting a former model in his home in 1981.

News broke yesterday at THR, with Scott R Brunton detailing how he became disoriented after a night of drinking, temporarily losing consciousness in George Takei's home. He claims that he regained consciousness to find Takei groping him and undressing him. Afterward, he fled the residence. He allegedly told friends about the situation over the years but is just now coming forward in a more public capacity with his story. You can read an excerpt below...

George Takei has since taken to social media to refute this claim, claiming he doesn't even remember Scott R Brunton at all. On his Twitter thread response, Takei said this:

So far Scott R Brunton is the only one to accuse George Takei of sexual assault, and it's not clear exactly how this will affect his career moving forward. That being said, these type of accusations often change the trajectory of a variety of projects, so it's certainly something that is being taken seriously in the industry.

That's definitely shown to be the case with some other high profile entertainment professionals in the past few weeks. After Harvey Weinstein was ousted from his various positions, Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp accused Kevin Spacey of sexually harassing him at the age of 14. A variety of other accusers, many of which were on the crew of House of Cards, have since come forward, and Netflix has cut ties with the Academy Award winning actor. And just yesterday comedian Louis CK admitted to allegations of sexual misconduct, claiming that consent means something else when you're in a position of power. Since then, CK's movie I Love You, Daddy has been canned, with FX cutting ties and The Secret Life Of Pets sequel dropping him from the lead role.

It's been a harrowing few weeks in the world of TV and film. Following the myriad allegations against producer Harvey Weinstein, we've seen the floodgates open in regards to sexual harassment and assault cases from powerful Hollywood men. These types of accusations have led to the demise of various projects and entertainment professionals like Kevin Spacey. And the past few days saw a handful of women came forward, claiming that comedian Louis CK exposed himself and masturbated in front of them. This has resulted in CK's projects being shut down, and now the actor/comedian has spoken out about the accusations. He's admitted to it all.

Louis CK issued a personal statement via social media, confirming the behavior detailed in the allegations against him. He wrote up a lengthy post (via USA Today) taking ownership for his actions, and apparently taking pause to truly listen to the alleged survivors. You can see some of his statement below.

Unlike the response from some of the other recently accused Hollywood royalty, Louis CK seems to really own up to the accusations made against his behavior throughout the years. And while taking responsibility is sure to be a bit of a relief for the accusers, it's unclear how exactly Louis CK's career could possibly move on from here.

Louis CK is the latest in a line of male Hollywood figures that have been accused of being sexually inappropriate with potential actors, crew members, or fans. While the comedian hasn't been accused of putting his hands on anyone, he was accused by five women of behavior including masturbating in front of them. He's since admitted to his wrongdoings, and seems ready to face the backlash that has already come down upon him.

And in just a day or two, we've seen all of the actor's projects shut down in quick succession. His independent film I Love You, Daddy has been cancelled indefinitely, just days before it was set to release. The film contains a fair amount of content that is unacceptable given Louis CK's behavior in the past, including a myriad of jokes about masturbation. Additionally, he has been dropped by both Netflix and HBO. Plus, FX has had to take action as well, despite the long working relationship he's had with the network through his show Louis.

But Louis CK certainly isn't alone as he watches his career decline in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations. Kevin Spacey has been disowned by Netflix and film studios, and Harvey Weinstein has been removed from both his company and the Film Academy. Accusers have also come out against Jeremy Piven, Dustin Hoffman, Brett Ratner, and Charlie Sheen. And while its sobering to hear about the misconduct that was permitted for years in Hollywood, hopefully this will lead to a change in perspective and shift for the landscape of entertainment.

Rose McGowan is one of the most outspoken figures in Hollywood. While she's not doing a ton of acting lately, the last few years have seen her public image transform into a fierce advocate for women's rights- which is also one of the reasons why she's been disinterested in taking high profile acting gigs. And as the scandal around Harvey Weinstein's allegations of sexual misconduct continue to make headlines, more information about past movies have come to light. It turns out that McGowan got her lead role in Robert Rodriguez' Grindhouse film Planet Terror as a way to flip the bird to Weinstein, who had reportedly blacklisted the actress following his alleged assault.

Robert Rodriguez recently shared this information himself, in an interview with Variety. After Rose McGowan told Rodriguez he couldn't audition for projects involving Harvey Weinstein, including Sin City, the director made it a point to give McGowan a lead role in his film.

And just like that, Rose McGowan was given an assault rifle as a leg, and we got the awesome cult favorite that is Grindhouse. The 2007 film was one of McGowan's most recent high profile gigs, and she was also given a role in Quentin Tarantino's accompanying film Death Proof. The two films were presented as a retro double feature, with McGowan serving as the common thread between the projects.

Robert Rodriguez's comments seem to point out a message that has been clear since the Harvey Weinstein allegations first surfaced just weeks ago. Namely, that there were quite a few major figures in Hollywood that were aware of previous allegations, and apparently did not speak out against the producer. But it does appear that news indeed spread, and smart minded folks like Rodriguez attempted to work their way around a broken system.

Allegations about Harvey Weinstein's apparent behavior toward women in the entertainment industry surfaced through detailed reports by both the NY Times and The New Yorker. Since then, a plethora of high profile actresses have spoken up against Weinstein and other powerful men's alleged behavior throughout the years. Weinstein has since been removed from both Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the company which bares his name.

When it comes to director/producer duos, there are few that are as closely connected as Quentin Tarantino and Harvey Weinstein. Starting with Reservoir Dogs in 1992, nearly all of Tarantino's movies (2007's Death Proof being the exception) have been distributed (even if just in the United States) by either Miramax or The Weinstein Company, the film studios that Weinstein oversaw. Now following the numerous sexual harassment allegations against Weinstein that have been made public, Tarantino has revealed that he was at least partially aware of the producer's alleged misconduct for years. Tarantino said:

Quentin Tarnatino says he first became aware of Harvey Weinstein's behavior when he was dating actress Mira Sorvino, who had told him about her own unfortunate experiences with the movie-making mogul, which included him reportedly massaging her without being asked and chasing her around a hotel room. At the time, Tarantino admitted he was "shocked and appalled" at such actions, but he assumed at the time that it was only directed specifically at Sorvino, and that his relationship with the actress would dissuade Weinstein from bothering her again.

But as the years passed, Quentin Tarantino heard stories of other women who said they'd been harassed by Harvey Weinstein, and The Hateful Eight director admitted in his interview with The New York Times that hee "marginalized the incidents" and wrote them off as "mild misbehavior," hence why he kept making movies in collaboration with Miramax and The Weinstein Company. Tarantino continued:

Fast-forward to now, Quentin Tarantino was "horrified" by the articles that came out about Harvey Weinstein's alleged misconduct, not realizing how widespread it was. Tarantino noted that Hollywood has been operating under a "Jim Crow-like system," and he's now calling for other powerful men who knew about what Weinstein was doing to admit as much and "vow to do better" for all women. Tarantino also mentioned that he's tried calling Weinstein several times since all this news came to light, but hasn't received a reply. As it stands now, not only has Weinstein been fired from The Weinstein Company and expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, he is also the target of several criminal investigations, the most recent one from the Los Angeles Police Department.

The Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment stories have pervaded every corner of the Internet for the past few weeks, leading other actresses in Hollywood to share their stories about unsavory encounters and also leading people who were involved with Harvey Weinstein to talk about their experiences. One of the people to speak out has been Kevin Smith, who admitted during his Babble-On Podcast that his entire career is "tied to the man" and that he's looking for ways to make amends with the money he has made off of someone who reportedly used women. He said that he still gets money for movies he made with Harvey Weinstein early on in his career and he's been trying to think about how he could help with the problem, so he's giving some money to women in these sorts of situations. In fact, he's going to give it to Women in Film.

Kevin Smith has worked closely with Harvey Weinstein throughout his career. Over half of the movies he has made came to fruition because of Weinstein, including classics like Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, among others. While some in the industry have claimed Harvey Weinstein's behavior was an open secret, Kevin Smith was very clear to say during his podcast that he didn't know, speaking fervently about his feelings after the news broke a few days ago. He said:

Harvey Weinstein had a huge effect on Kevin Smith's career. Clerks was filmed at the convenience store where Kevin Smith was working on an extremely low budget of $27,575. Miramax ended up buying the movie, launching Smith's career and allowing him to make plenty of other movies. As Smith himself notes, "his shit" is absolutely tied up with Weinstein.

In the time since the reports about Harvey Weinstein forcing himself on women he has worked with broke, Harvey Weinstein has been fired from his position at The Weinstein Company and was even forced out of The Academy. His reported behavior is still sparking debates and having a keen effect on the industry days later. As for Kevin Smith, the directors also said that if The Weinstein Company folds, he'll still dedicate $2,000 a month to the organization. He doesn't really have to do any of this, but as the quotes above show, it's clearly something that Smith has strong feelings about.

On the off chance you have been hiding under a rock for the past few days, Harvey Weinstein ended his own career following a series of sexual assault allegations surfaced. The prolific Hollywood producer was removed from his own company, The Weinstein Company, as the fallout spread. And over the weekend, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted to remove Harvey Weinstein from its membership, stating these following reasons:

The Academy has been treating the Harvey Weinstein situation like a standalone issue, recognizing opinions from members -- both anonymous, and those who have gone on record to the trades -- that removing Weinstein from the Academy membership because of these allegations sets a precedent that could then be used against other members who might have faced (or still are facing) similar charges. This is why the Academy, in its statement obtained by Variety, links the Weinstein decision to the handling of a growing, systematic problem plaguing the entertainment industry -- one that continues to expand as more stories, connected to Weinstein and beyond, come out.

In addition to the removal from the roster of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Harvey Weinstein officially has been fired from the Board of Directors of The Weinstein Company, costing him a seat on the board of the company that he founded with his brother, Bob, back in 2005. Though TMZ says this decision could get tied up in litigation if TWC doesn't go into mediation of arbitration with Harvey Weinstein before this decision is handed down.

We don't expect this to be the end of the Harvey Weinstein story, as more allegations continue to surface, and criminal probes increasing in New York and London, according to the L.A. Times. In the meantime, conversations continue in the film community about how to react to the bombshell that has been the reality about the extent of Harvey Weinstein's actions. And that's another aspect of this story that we don't see going away any time soon.

The shockwaves from the ongoing Harvey Weinstein bombshells continue to ripple through the film industry, with the latest coming from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, arguably the biggest body of representation in Weinstein's profession. Following the revelation that Weinstein was being accused by numerous women of being a serial sexual predator, the Academy issued a stern statement condemning Weinstein's alleged actions. Now, however, the group is meeting to discuss whether he should be expelled from the Academy... an action that has only been taken one time with an Academy member.

An emergency meeting is being held on Saturday by the 54 members of the Academy's board of governors to discuss how best to handle Harvey Weinstein's status as an Academy member in the wake of these horrifying allegations. Past Academy presidents have made it clear that Weinstein should be removed immediately, with former Academy President Sid Ganis basically stating that Weinstein was, in effect, already out of the membership.

Others, however, recognize the unusual precedent this action would cause, and question what it might mean for other Academy members who face allegations or sexual or criminal behavior. Bruce Feldman, a member of the public relations branch of the Academy, says to The Hollywood Reporter:

The ongoing Harvey Weinstein controversy really is unlike anything that we have seen in our lifetime, where a major film executive faces accusations from numerous women, and might face legal repercussions once all of the dust has settled (and it's nowhere near done settling at this moment). So the Academy has to react. But as mentioned, membership in the Academy has been on a "for life" basis, and the only person ever removed from the Academy was Carmine Caridi, who lost his membership after copies of his Oscar-contending screeners ended up online. Caridi was found to be in violation of an existing policy. The Academy now needs to figure out what line to draw in the sand regarding Harvey Weinstein and his behavior.

Most of the Academy members interviewed by THR support an immediate removal of Harvey Weinstein, even as it would establish a precedent that could impact the membership of other members. One anonymous public relations branch manager said to the trade:

They have issued a statement. Will they do more than that this weekend? We will find out soon enough.

The Weinstein Company is in for some rough sailing, what with the re-branding that the company will be undergoing in light of recent events. But there's already a party interested in buying out the portion of the company that's held by the now fired Harvey Weinstein. With projects already in the stable of what's still currently TWC, musical mogul Jay-Z is looking to take his Hollywood game to the next level, which could be a pretty interesting development; should it happen.

Jay-Z would be at the head of a group of investors that are looking to pick up 23% of The Weinstein Company, which would be a sweetheart deal for the recording artist and husband of Beyonce, as he's currently producing a movie and miniseries project in-house. But this acquisition is also a good thing for the now in-the-lurch production company, as it would manage to solve problems for more than a couple parties both internally and outside of the doors.

With some TV projects already in development at other studios like Amazon, as well as whatever film projects the company's current catalog entails on the line, The Weinstein Company is going to need some fresh capital in order to make up for whatever losses the alleged recent events have incurred. Not to mention, Harvey Weinstein's reputation was one of enormous clout, up until his firing by the company, having been known as an Oscar-whisperer. If Jay-Z were to slot into TWC, however, the clout issue becomes a thing of the past, as he has tons of connections and a lot of people on his side.

Perhaps the greatest advantage of Jay-Z potentially buying out Harvey Weinstein's share of The Weinstein Company is the fact that a person of color would have a pretty powerful position to help Hollywood with becoming a more diverse industry. He and Beyonce are already two of the biggest figures in the music world, so obviously their touch transferring to the world of motion pictures and television would be a good deal. Their eyes for talent and material would only help the studio, which seemed to already be floundering before the allegations of misconduct had hit the news.

The news that TMZ broke from their various sources is all, of course, in early days. But the possibility of a Jay-Z-led buyout is obviously going to spark up some other suitors' interests, as well as some internal discussion of where The Weinstein Company is heading in its tumultuous future. As soon as we hear any new information regarding the possibility of this sale, we'll report back.

Hollywood is still reeling from the high-profile sexual harassment and rape allegations against mega-producer Harvey Weinstein, and the ripples will likely spread out for a long time. On the business side of things, the scandal has created complications for two highly anticipated TV shows currently in development at Amazon: Robert de Niro and Julianne Moore's upcoming team-up with David O. Russell, and The Romanoffs, which is Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner's follow-up to his acclaimed AMC drama. And it's not just about having Weinstein's name attached, either.

It appears that some execs at Amazon Studios are getting kind of hesitant about being a part of two series that currently have The Weinstein Co.'s name attached, and according to THR, the streaming side of the retailer juggernaut is reviewing its options in regards to what will be done about the two heavily hyped projects. The goal at this point is reportedly to move forward on both new shows while attempting to completely distance The Weinstein Co. from the pair without wrecking anything when it comes to the creative talent that has already been signed on.

Speaking of, let's look at where both of the aforementioned shows are at right now. David O. Russell's currently still-untitled crime drama has allegedly already cost Amazon $40 million, and the most that's been done for the project involves a handful of scripts being written. Already tapped for a two-season order, this project has already made some waves for its price tag, with the proposed $160 million budget causing most interested parties (that weren't Amazon) to turn away before even knowing what the show was about. Robert de Niro himself locked up a massive payday that amounts to $750,000 an episode, and the show has yet to actually finish the casting process beyond netting de Niro and Julianne Moore.

But The Weinstein Co. apparently hasn't yet rounded up a single dollar for that crime drama, despite being brought in as a financial buoy, with Harvey Weinstein's contract reportedly excluding him from creative input. (It's stated that Weinstein talked big about being able to control the sometimes affronting nature that David O. Russell has showcased during his career.) Currently, it's expected that Weinstein's name will be removed from the show altogether.

Things are looking slightly more productive on Matthew Weiner's side, although The Weinstein Co. apparently didn't pony up any dough for this relatively pricey project either. Planned as an historical anthology, The Romanoffs is said to have completed production on the first handful of episodes, with former Mad Men stars Christina Hendricks and John Slattery brought in to star. The $75-million drama is heading into a temporary hiatus soon, but this was a planned affair, as Weiner is set to do on a book tour to promote his debut novel Heather, the Totality. When that's completed, it's expected that work will go back to normal for the Amazon series, though likely without any Weinstein associations attached.

For those who happened to miss the wall-to-wall news stories in recent days, a number of women have come forward with claims of sexual assault and harassment that Harvey Weinstein had put them through in his decades as a Hollywood power player. The accusers include actresses, filmmakers, and numerous former employees of Weinstein, most of whom say that they hadn't previously come forward due to the fear that Weinstein's influence would get them shunned in the industry. Others, like Rose McGowan, had taken legal settlements in court over their accusations. In the aftermath of the jaw-dropping stories, Weinstein was promptly fired from The Weinstein Co., and his wife Georgiana Chapman announced she was leaving him.

It's a story where the floodgates likely won't close for a while longer, so we can probably expect more fallout, as well as more behind-the-scenes issues like those mentioned above, in the near future. Harvey Weinstein is a name that is currently everywhere right now, thanks to the myriad sexual harassment stories that have been popping up in many corners of the Internet. However, Harvey Weinstein is also a name that you will see less and less frequently in the coming months, as The Weinstein Company is going out of its way to distance itself from the popular producer. This includes scrubbing Weinstein's name from upcoming credits, but more importantly, it looks as if the company will likely look to rebrand completely in the wake of the recent scandal.

News broke this week that The Weinstein Company has made the decision to pull Harvey Weinstein's name off of TV projects in the future. As an extension of that, his name is expected to be taken off of any future movies that he worked on moving forward, although that process may be a bit more difficult, as Weinstein worked a lot harder on those movie projects than he did on Weinstein TV series and may attempt to make a fuss out of those changes. According to Deadline, the company has already started making calls to make sure that Harvey Weinstein is not likened to the company in the near future. Regardless, it doesn't look as if The Weinstein Company will stop at pulling all memory of Harvey Weinstein from its projects. The company has also been cited as working with ad agencies to come up with a new overall name and branding strategy.

If you've been keeping tabs on the Harvey Weinstein scandal at all, you may know that several women have accused Mr. Weinstein of some unprofessional acts, including allegedly asking colleagues repeatedly for massages, reportedly trying to hook up with actresses like Ashley Judd on the sets of movies, and even one weird incident where he reportedly masturbated into a potted plant in front of a reporter. After multiple incidents came to light, Weinstein was fired from his position as a producer at The Weinstein Company. Regardless, since the company is named after Harvey Weinstein and his brother Bob Weinstein--the current head of the company--it makes sense that due to the actions of one brother the company could attempt to try to go into a brand new direction.

It takes years to build a brand, and a company generally needs a catchy name along with a good work ethic to make a name for itself in any business. Choosing to go in a totally new direction with branding is certainly not the easiest choice to make, but doubtless the name Weinstein is tarnished in the movie-making world right now. If the company changes names, it's likely the best path The Weinstein Company sees moving forward.

It's been a few days since news began breaking that longtime producer Harvey Weinstein had been accused of sexual harassment by several women who had professional interactions with him over the years. Although Weinstein pushed back hard, saying he would be suing The New York Times for its lengthy profile, more allegations and weird stories have come to light, and Harvey Weinstein was fired from his position with The Weinstein Company. In the wake of those allegations, Meryl Streep, who has appeared in several Weinstein Company films, has spoken out to explain that not everyone knew about this sort of behavior. The outspoken Streep has stated,

Her above comments come as part of a lengthy statement that Meryl Streep released on Monday, a statement which also notes that Meryl Streep is unhappy with how the news came to light, and a statement which The Huffington Post notes also mentions that the people who have spoken out are "brave" and that the alleged behavior Harvey Weinstein has been accused of is "inexcusable."

Meryl Streep has long been a supporter of The Weinstein Company, and when she won a Golden Globe award for The Iron Lady, she even thanked "Harvey Weinstein," listing him next to "God" in her acceptance speech. Other Weinstein Company films she has participated in include August: Osage County and The Giver. Meryl Streep went further in her statement to explain how she feels about championing a person who is now alleged to have many problems in his dealings with ladies.

Harvey Weinstein has been accused of a variety of offenses, including asking employees for massages. Celebrities like Ashley Judd have also come forward, and Judd has alleged that Harvey Weinstein made overt sexual advances to her when she was filming Kiss The Girls. Even more recently, reporter Lauren Sivan told a story about how she went to a Cuban restaurant with Weinstein in 2007, where he proceeded to try and kiss her. When she stated she had a boyfriend, he reportedly masturbated into a potted plant in front of her.

As noted prior, Harvey Weinstein has been fired from his position with The Weinstein Company for misconduct, and the studio will undoubtedly have to work to pick itself back up in the wake of the allegations. We'll keep you updated as more news breaks.
