Cop shows have been part of television since the medium's earliest days. From Dragnet in the 1950s all the way through into the first half of the 21st century police shows, and the detectives that make them great, have long been favorites, even if many have been forgotten. Here is a great list of those shows and the detectives who made them so memorable.

The Wire

There are a lot of detectives on The Wire. A few, like Kima Greggs (Sonja Sohn) and Lester Freamon (Clarke Peters), get promoted during the show's run. Others, like the great Bunk Moreland (Wendall Pierce) and Jimmy McNulty (Dominic West), have their own ups and downs. All of them are, of course, incredibly realistic in their strengths and their flaws and are a major reason The Wire is one of the best shows in TV history.

Law & Order

Over the shows many years, there have been quite a few detectives in Law & Order. Too many to name here except to highlight the dean of Law & Order investigators, Lenny Briscoe, who was played for 12 seasons by Jerry Orbach. His main partner, Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) teamed up with Brisco for nine of those seasons.

Cagney & Lacey

It's pretty easy to guess who the main detectives are in the '80s hit Cagney & Lacey. Career-minded Christine Cagney, played by Sharon Gless for most of the show's run, and her partner, family woman Mary Beth Lacey (Tyne Daly), were the two detectives for all seven seasons. Female detectives were rare on TV, and two partnered together was unheard of, which is part of what made the show stand out.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

The original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was a little different than most of its predecessors in the police procedural genre, in that most of the main investigators weren't actually cops, but a separate branch of law enforcement tasked with crime scene science. There was a detective they worked with though, Paul Guilfoyle's character Captain Jim Brass.

Hawaii Five-0

There have been two versions of Hawaii Five-0, the original that debuted in 1968 and the reboot that began in 2010. The original featured Jack Lord as Steve McGarrett as the lead detective along with his partner Danny "Danno" Williams played by James MacArthur. In the reboot, McGarrett was played by Alex O'Loughlin and Danny, rarely "Danno," by Scott Caan.

Dragnet

Originally Dragnet goes all the way back to radio. It was a revolutionary show at the time, in the early days of commercial television, and completely the vision of its star, Jack Webb, who played Sergeant Joe Friday on radio and in the first and second versions of the show in the '50s and '60s. Friday had a few partners in the original series, but for most of the run, his partner was Frank Smith played by Ben Alexander. In the late '60s reboot, Friday's partner was Bill Gannon, played by Harry Morgan of MASH fame.

Without A Trace

Without A Trace was really more about the team than it was about any one investigator as the FBI agents worked to track down kidnapping victims. The team was led by Jack Malone (Anthony LaPaglia) and his team that included Samantha "Sam" Spade (Poppy Montgomery), Viv Johnson (Marianne Jean-Baptiste), Danny Alvarez, (Enrique Murciano), and Martin Fitzgerald (Eric Close)

NYPD Blue

When it debuted in 1993, NYPD Blue was one of the edgiest and grittiest shows ever seen on network TV. It was led by David Caruso, who played Detective John Kelly, and his partner Andy Sipowicz, played by Dennis Franz. Caruso left after Season 2 and Jimmy Smits stepped in as Detective Bobby Simone. Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Dana Delaney also played detectives at different times during the show's run.

Law & Order: SVU

Law & Order: SVU was the second show in the Law & Order franchise, which has seen countless actors show up in and over its many seasons, like its sister show, it has had quite a few detectives. From day one, however, Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) was a mainstay of the unit. Other detectives have included Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), Fin Tutuola (Ice-T), and John Munch (Richard Belzer), among others.

Homicide: Life on the Street

Richard Belzer's character Detective John Munch famously showed up in a whole slew of shows, including as a regular on Law & Order: SVU. The character's origin story comes from Homicide: Life on the Street. Some of the other main detectives on the show included Frank Pembleton, played by the late, great Andre Braugher, and Beau Felton, played by Daniel Baldwin.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

The late Andre Braugher made his name as a detective in Homicide: Life On The Streets. His work on that show is part of what makes his role as a captain on Brooklyn None-Nine so funny. He's not one of the main detectives though. Those roles are filled by Andy Sandberg as Jake Peralta, and Stephanie Beatriz as Rosa Diaz.

Blue Bloods

Donny Wahlberg has been in show business since he was a teenager in New Kids on the Block. And despite being a big part of the cast of Band of Brothers, the role he'll most likely be remembered best for in the end is Detective Danny Reagan on Blue Bloods. Danny had a couple of partners over the years. His first was Detective Jackie Curatola, played by Jennifer Esposito and his second was Maria Biaz played by Marisa Ramirez.

NCIS

NCIS isn't really a typical police show, as it's about the investigative unit within the US Navy. Still, there are investigators who operate just like detectives, led by Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his team including Senior Field Agent Anthony DiNozzo (Micheal Weatherly) and Senior Field Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) among others throughout the show's long run.

Hill Street Blues

When it debuted in 1978, Hill Street Blues was an instant hit. It won a slew of Emmys over the years and is generally considered one of the best cop shows of all time. It wasn't just about the detectives, though a few detectives were important to the story, including and most importantly Detective Mick Belker, played by Bruce Weitz.

True Detective

Since each season of True Detective is a stand-alone story, there have been multiple detectives, each unique to their season. In Season 1 it was Detective Rustin "Rust" Cohle, played by Matthew McConaughey, and Detective Martin "Marty" Hart, played by Woody Harrelson. Season 2 saw Colin Farrell as Detective Ray Velcoro and Rachel McAdams as Detective Ani Bezzerides. In Season 3, the two detectives were Wayne Hays and Roland West, played by Mahershala Ali and Steven Dorff, respectively. Season 4 saw Jodie Foster take over in the lead detective role.

CSI: Miami

Unlike its sister show CSI, CSI: Miami and its forensic unit are led by a detective. David Caruso played Horatio Caine, the lieutenant in charge. Rex Linn plays Detective Frank Tripp, who is one of the homicide detectives who works with the unit often.

The Shield

In The Shield, the lead detective, Vic Mackey, is played by Michael Chiklis. He leads a crew of sketchy cops and detectives in the gritty show. Detective Shane Vendrell, played by the great Walter Goggins is another key detective on the show.

Bones

Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) and Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) are FBI forensic investigators on Bones. Together they investigate... well... bones and human remains. It's definitely a unique twist on the genre and one that was wildly successful for 12 seasons on CBS.

Cold Case

For seven seasons, Kathryn Morris starred as a homicide detective named Lilly Rush. As the name of the show implies, her specialty was cold cases, or cases that long run short on leads and promising clues. In the show's first season, her partner was Chris Lassing (Justin Chambers) and later she teamed up with Scotty Valens, played by Danny Pino.

Criminal Minds

Another FBI investigative show, Criminal Minds followed the office of the Behavioral Analysis Unit, led at first by Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin), followed by Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) for much of the show's run. They over an office with a number of detectives over the years, including Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore), JJ Jareau (A. J. Cook), and Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster).

CSI: NY

In the third installment of the CSI franchise, audiences were transported to the New York City version of the crime scene investigation where the team was led by Mac Taylor, played by Gary Sinise for the entire run of the show. He didn't work alone, of course, and some of his team members included homicide detective Don Flack (Eddie Cahill), and Detective Stella Bonasera (Melina Kanakaredes).

Miami Vice

In the 1980s, there was one detective duo that stood above the rest. Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson) and Rico Tubbs ( Philip Michael Thomas). The two coolest detectives north of Havana on Miami Vice got to wear stylish clothes and drive fast cars. It was a different kind of cop show for a new era and nothing says the '80s quite like it.

FBI

CBS's FBI is all about the team of investigators led by actor Jeremy Sisto as Jubal Valentine, the head of the "fusion center" and coordinating their operations from there. In the field, the two lead investigators are Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym) and her partner OA Zidan (Zeeko Zaki).

Starsky And Hutch

Before Miami Vice hit the air in the 1980s, the two coolest detectives on TV were Dave Starsky And Ken Hutchinson, or "Hutch." The two, played by David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser respectively, starred in Starsky And Hutch for four seasons in the late '70s but they cast a much longer shadow over TV cop shows for decades. They were a little edgier, a little grittier than the usual TV detectives viewers were used to and that influence has been seen in shows ever since.

Rizzoli & Isles

As the name implies, the main investigators on Rizzoli & Isles are... well... Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander). Though technically Only Rizzoli was a detective in the Boston PD. Isles was a medical examiner who teamed with Rizzoli to investigate crimes in the Bay State. The show is notably for being having two female lead detectives, though they had all the same tropes as two male leads who don't always see eye to eye.

21 Jump Street

In the early days of the Fox Network, they took some real chances and one of those risks was 21 Jump Street about a team of cops charged with going undercover in high schools to unearth crimes. The two main detectives for the first four seasons were Tom Hanson, played by Johnny Depp in his breakout role, Judy Hoffs (Holly Robinson), Harry Ioki (Dustin Nguyen), and Doug Penhall (Peter DeLuise). For the show's fifth and final season, much of the cast left, including Depp and a new bunch of detectives came in, like Doug's brother Joey, played by Peter Deluise's brother Michael. It's also worth nothing that Richard Grieco played a reoccurring character named Dennis Booker. Eventually, that character got its own spinoff, called Booker.

Law & Order: Criminal Intent

The third installment of the Law & Order franchise, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, ran for 10 seasons on both NBC and USA and had four main five main detectives at various points. Some, like Detective Alexandra Eames (Kathryn Erbe) and Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio), appeared in all ten seasons. Others, like Mike Logan (Chris Noth) and Zack Nichols (Jeff Goldblum), appeared in a few dozen episodes in the middle seasons.

Police Squad!

Leslie Neilson has delivered some amazing lines in his various roles in spoof movies in the late 20th Century, including The Naked Gun franchise. That franchise started with a very brief run as a TV show called Police Squad. Just like in the movies, the main detective, played by Neilson, was Frank Drebin, the hapless-yet-effective detective in the LAPD.

Body Of Proof

The short-lived Body Of Proof followed the professional and sometimes private life of a surgeon-turned-medical examiner played by Dana Delaney. She helped the main homicide detectives, played by John Carroll Lynch and Sonya Sohn solve the worst crimes in Philadelphia.

Person Of Interest

Really the two main detectives in Person of Interest aren't cops at all. Harold Finch (Michael Emerson) is a billionaire who developed a software program for predicting crimes and is basically the "guy behind the guy." On the street, John Reece (Jim Caviezel) is an ex-soldier who does the dirty work of stopping the crimes. Taraji P. Henson plays an actual police detective who works with Reece.

Crossing Jordan

In a lot of shows, the medical examiner is a key character, but not always the main investigator. On Crossing Jordan, that isn't the case. Jill Hennessy plays Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh, a forensic pathologist. There were quite a few Boston homicide detectives throughout the show's run, most notably Woody Hoyt, played by Jerry O'Connell.

Fred Dryer

In the 1980s, there was no tougher detective than Sergeant Rick Hunter on Hunter. Played by ex-football player Fred Dryer, Hunter wasn't a cop who always played by the rules, but he always got his man. The show was one of the more popular cop shows in the '80s and even had a very brief revival in 2005.

It’s hard enough for a TV show to be greenlit for a pilot and then officially ordered to series, let alone run for many seasons. Many of these shows don’t make it past their first season, and those that end up running between five-10 should definitely be considered successes. But over the decades, there have been a handful of shows that have achieved the incredible feat of lasting more than 10 seasons. Most have been live-action programming, whether we’re talking exceptional dramas or the best sitcoms of all time, and some are among the best-animated TV shows of all time. Whatever the case, these 32 TV shows deserve to be spotlighted as small-screen programming that ran for amazingly long times.

NCIS

The series about agents solving crimes for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service spun out of JAG, which had its own impressive run from 1995-2005. However, it’s safe to say that NCIS far surpassed its predecessor’s level of popularity, as not only did the main show end up running over multiple decades, but it also launched a franchise encompassing many spinoffs, one of which will be mentioned later.

The Simpsons

The satirical depiction of suburban life in Springfield centered around Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart, Maggie and their family members and friends quickly became a pop culture phenomenon after it started in 1989. As the longest-running American animated series, longest-running American sitcom and longest-running primetime show, The Simpsons has become a beloved TV staple to multiple generations.

Cheers

From 1982-1993, viewers could visit a Boston bar where everybody knew their name… or rather they could pretend they were hanging out with folks like Sam, Carla and Norm. Cheers proved to be a sitcom sensation that earned numerous accolades, including winning 28 Emmys out of 111 nominations and six Golden Globes out of 31 nominations.

The Big Bang Theory

What started out as a show about a group of scientifically gifted young men and and the gorgeous blonde woman who lived across the hall from two of them became something so much more by the time its 12-season run was finished. Not only did The Big Bang Theory spotlight geek culture in a way that made it more than just the butt of jokes, but its legacy lived on through the prequel spinoff Young Sheldon.

Gunsmoke

Gunsmoke achieved popularity as a radio program from 1952 to 1961, but in the middle of that run, it was additionally adapted for TV, and that was an even better success. With a 20-season run, plus five TV movies made after it ended in 1975, the series about Marshal Matt Dillon protecting the citizens of Dodge City, Kanas in the post-Civil War era ranked for a long time as the longest-running, primetime, live-action TV series.

Law & Order

Police procedurals obviously weren’t anything new when Law & Order debuted in 1990, but the Dick Wolf creation about New York City police detectives and prosecuting attorneys has arguably become the most well-known of this type of programming from its own merit and the massive small screen franchise it launched. The show originally aired on NBC for 20 seasons, and then the network revived it in 2022.

Family Guy

Family Guy didn’t get off to the best of starts, as it was canceled by Fox in 2002 after just three seasons. However, thanks to syndicated reruns and DVD sales. Peter Griffin and his family and friends from Quahog, Rhode Island returned to the network in 2005, and the show has since delivered so many hilarious episodes, though it’s not without its controversies. We’re lucky there’s still a man who positively can do all the things that make us laugh and cry.

Dallas

The primetime soap opera about the Ewing family, which owned the Ewing Oil company and Southfork Ranch, captivated audiences over its 14-season run, which is also just as long as the spinoff Knot’s Landing lasted. Dallas would later receive a revival that ran from 2012-2014, though it ignored the events from the two TV movies that followed the original series.

American Dad!

In 2005, the same year Family Guy returned to the airwaves, Seth MacFarlane also delivered American Dad!, which started out as the first show on Fox’s Animation Domination block, and was then moved to TBS years later. It might not have quite the name recognition as Family Guy, but the hijinks of Stan Smith and his family and associates have assembled their own sizable fanbase.

Bonanza

Bonanza is another Western that had a lengthy run in the earlier years of television, running on NBC from 1959 to 1973. Week after week, viewers turned in to watch the stories centered on the wealthy Cartwright family who lived near Virginia City, Nevada in the 1860s, and the series was followed by three made-for-TV movies, as well as a short-lived prequel called The Ponderosa that ran in 2001.

South Park

Y’all ever come down to South Park to meet some friends of mine? Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s Comedy Central show started out as two animated short films before it was ordered to series in 1997. South Park is unquestionably one of the most controversial pieces of programming on this list thanks to its many outrageous episodes, but there’s no questioning how much of an impact it’s left on pop culture… when it’s not making fun of it, that is.

Blue Bloods

While Tom Selleck will always arguably be best known for leading the original Magnum P.I., he spent a lot longer on the CBS procedural Blue Bloods. He played NYPD Commissioner Frank Regan in this series following the Reagan family and their various jobs in law enforcement that lasted for 14 seasons.

Supernatural

As one of the pieces of programming that weathered The WB’s transition to The CW, Supernatural, which followed brothers Dean and Sam Winchester battling demonic creatures across the United States, had an impressive 15-season run and assembled a passionate fanbase during that time. It’s the longest-running live-action fantasy series and was followed by the short-lived prequel The Winchesters.

Criminal Minds

This procedural is about the criminal profilers who work for the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. The original incarnation of Criminal Minds ran on CBS for 16 seasons, which is obviously a big deal on its own. Then just two years later, it was revived as a Paramount+-exclusive show, albeit now titled as Criminal Minds: Evolution.

M*A*S*H

In 1972, two years after the M*A*S*H movie achieved critical and commercial success, the same-named TV series inspired by the same premise first featured in the 1968 novel MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors started airing on CBS. This comedy/drama about doctors during the Korean War ran for 11 seasons, and its finale was the most-watched TV broadcast in the United States from 1983 to 2010.

Law And Order: Special Victims Unit

In 1999, nine years after Law & Order began, this TV property officially became a franchise when Law & Order: Special Victims Unit began airing. This series specifically focused on sexually-based crimes became just as popular as its predecessor, if not more so. Mariska Hargitay anchors SVU as Olivia Benson, with her being the only main cast member to have been around since the show started.

Grey’s Anatomy

Viewers have spent a long time with the employees at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital, which was later renamed the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Grey’s Anatomy began on ABC in 2005 with Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey leading the large cast, and other notable cast members who’ve appeared on the show over the years include Katherine Heigl, Patrick Dempsey, Kate Walsh, Eric Dane and Jesse Williams, among many others.

Frasier

Frasier Crane didn’t appear on Cheers until Season 3, but after that show concluded, Kelsey Grammer’s character took center stage for the spinoff that saw him moving to Seattle, Washington to host his own radio show. Like Cheers, Frasier ran for 11 seasons and racked up a lot of Emmy wins. Nearly two decades after the series ended, Grammer returned to lead a revival/sequel on Paramount+.

Modern Family

Over the course of 11 seasons, Modern Family followed along with three kinds of connected families: nuclear, blended and same-sex. The result was the series starring Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara and Ed O’Neill, among many others, becoming one of ABC’s most popular pieces of programming, and by the time it ended in 2020, it had won 22 Emmys.

ER

While not the first medical show to be called ER (though the first was written as E/R), this drama hailing from the mind of Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton obviously left a much bigger stamp on pop culture. From George Clooney and Angela Bassett, to John Stamos and Ming-Na Wen, as well as a lot of ER cameos, this NBC series about the staff of the fictional Cook County General Hospital highlighted a lot of major talents during its 15 seasons on the air.

Bob’s Burgers

Fox strengthened its lineup of adult animation in 2011 with Bob’s Burgers, which is about the Belcher family running their hamburger restaurant and their interesting clientele. The series has spawned a theatrical movie and a comic book series, but the show more than holds up on its own, as evidenced by its Emmy wins and nominations, among other accolades.

Two And A Half Men

Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen, two actors closely tied with the Brat Pack, teamed up in 2003 for Two and a Half Men, which followed Cryer’s Alan Harper and his son Jake, played by Angus T. Jones, moving into the Malibu house of Sheen’s Charlie Harper, Alan’s brother. Both Sheen and Jones eventually left the show, and Ashton Kutcher came aboard as Walden Schmidt, but in the end, Two and a Half Men had a great run with 12 seasons.

NCIS: Los Angeles

Just like how JAG aired the backdoor pilot for NCIS in 2003, in 2009, NCIS aired special episodes to set up its first spinoff, NCIS: Los Angeles, which followed the Office of Special Projects in the title city. The procedural starring Chris O’Donnell, LL Cool J, Daniela Ruah and more ended up running for 14 seasons on CBS.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

In 2000, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation premiered on CBS, and it quickly became a worldwide phenomena, both in positive and negative (the show’s violence and graphic imagery being a frequent source of criticism). The show ended after 15 seasons, and then in 2021, a revival called CSI: Vegas aired on Paramount+ for three seasons, following previous spinoffs Miami, NY and Cyber.

Hawaii-5-O

Although the Hawaii-5-0 reboot had a healthy run of 10 seasons, the original, spelled Hawaii 5-O, lasted just a little longer at 12 seasons. From 1968 to 1980, viewers spent time with characters like Steve McGarrett, Danno Williams and Chin Ho Kelly as they tracked down and apprehended criminals around the Hawaiian Islands, and the series’ popularity led to “Book ‘em” becoming part of the pop culture lexicon.

Murder, She Wrote

Having already made a name for herself on the stage and in movies like The Manchurian Candidate, Angela Lansbury left her mark on TV when she played Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote. For 12 seasons and four made-for-TV movies, her character, mystery writer Jessica Fletcher solved murders that were being committed in her town of Cabot Cove, Maine and other locations around the world.

Bones

Bones stood out from other procedurals by focusing on forensic anthropology and forensic archaeology, as Emily Deschanel’s Temperance “Bones” Brennan would study the human remains brought in by FBI agent Seeley Booth, played by David Boreanaz, for investigations. Clearly audiences liked this approach, as the show ran for 12 seasons on Fox.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Originally starting out on FX, and then moving to FXX in 2013, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has spent years chronicling the exploits of Charlie, Dennis, Mac Dee and Frank, a.k.a. “The Gang.” They run the Irish dive bar Paddy’s Pub in Philadelphia and are some of the worst people who’ve ever walked the Earth, but their misadventures have produced some of TV’s greatest comedic moments, and it’s become the longest-running live-action sitcom.

The X-Files

The X-Files originally ran on Fox from 1993 to 2002, with David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson’s Dana Scully looking into cases involving paranormal elements. While the show in its original run wouldn’t have qualified for this list, The X-Files came back for two more seasons from 2016-2018. A theatrical movie, also just called The X-Files, was additionally released in 1998, and The X-Files: I Want To Believe followed in 2008.

King Of The Hill

In yet another example of how much Fox has killed it with adult animation, King of the Hill earned critical acclaim during its 13 seasons originally on the air. The looks at the lives of the Hill family and those in their orbit earned two Emmy awards, among other accolades. In 2023, nearly 15 years after the series ended, it was announced that King of the Hill would be revived, which those with a Hulu subscription could watch.

Will & Grace

Will & Grace originally ran on NBC from 1998 to 2006, and thanks to returning for three more seasons between 2017 and 2020, it makes the cut for this list. The lives of best friends Eric McCormack’s Will Truman and Debra Messing’s Grace Adler, plus cohorts Jack McFarland and Karen Walker, played respectively by Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally, earned 18 Emmys and 96 total nominations.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Following his time show running all but two seasons of Seinfeld, Larry David took center stage for Curb Your Enthusiasm, which was based on his 1999 one-hour special Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm and saw him playing a fictional version of himself who frequently found himself in awkward social situations. While Curb Your Enthusiasm didn’t air consistently between 2000 and 2024, it racked up 12 seasons in the end.

TV shows come and TV shows go, but sometimes fans help to boost a series so much that it sticks around for a looooong time. It may seem that our favorite dramas and comedies are always gone way too soon, but there are an impressive number of popular shows that actually stuck around for the long haul. Here now is a list of 32 shows that incredibly ran for more than 250 episodes.

Grey's Anatomy

It was in 2019 that the popular and formerly Ellen Pompeo-led drama, Grey’s Anatomy, celebrated a big milestone when it officially became the longest-running medical show by surpassing the 331-episode record of another series you may have heard of, ER.

Family Guy

For every immediate success, there’s also at least one long-running series that got off to a bumpy start, and Fox’s hit comedy Family Guy fits that bill. Originally canceled after the third season finished airing in 2002, network execs changed their minds after strong DVD sales and syndicated rerun ratings proved the series still had legs. It’s gone on to become one of the best-animated TV shows of all time.

Frasier

No series survives 11 seasons on network TV for nothing, and Frasier’s many accolades during its run certainly prove that rule. Of course, the series had a very solid jumping-off point, with Kelsey Grammer’s fussy academic lead, Frasier Crane, having been a strong and beloved part of the Cheers cast since 1984 by the time his spinoff kicked off in 1993. Frasier is one of the longest-running live-action characters on prime-time television.

 Lassie

You can be forgiven if you’ve never heard of Lassie, seeing as how the series ended over 50 years ago, but it made quite the impact when it was on. The show, a drama about the adventures of the titular heroic collie and her friends/owners, began in 1954 and remarkably lasted through 1973, racking up 19 seasons and 591 episodes. 

NCIS

You’ve likely heard of NCIS, considering that long dominated viewership on a regular basis, and has been known to top the ratings for a year more than once since its debut in 2003. The procedural crime drama about a team that investigates naval crimes has been so successful that it’s spawned multiple spinoffs (most of them also long-running) over the years.

Supernatural

Fantasy/horror series don’t usually get much time to shine, but that cannot be said for Supernatural. The CW show that followed brothers Dean and Sam Winchester as they hunted the United States to stop supernatural beings like vampires, werewolves, witches and demons from hurting people and destroying the world ran for a whopping 15 seasons and became the longest-running live-action fantasy in America by its eleventh season.

Hawaii Five-0

In 2010, we got a reboot of this classic series that was a success story in its own right. But, it was the original Hawaii Five-0 starring Jack Lord that aired from 1968 through 1980 that actually passed the 250-episode mark. We never would have gotten that iconic theme song otherwise, and may never have casually begun calling all police in the U.S. the “five-0” without it.

Bob's Burgers

We certainly haven’t forgotten about the impact that animation has had on primetime TV, and one hit that beat the odds is Bob’s Burgers. The series focuses on the Belcher family (parents Bob and Linda, their kids Tina, Gene and Louise), their struggling mom-and-pop burger joint, and their many friends and family, who reside in a quirky seaside town. It’s been a hit ever since its 2011 premiere and even has a theatrically released movie from 2022 to its name.

Dallas

Nighttime soap operas used to be big business, and one that ruled for over a decade was Dallas. Focused on the scheming, rich Ewing family and their oil business in the titular city, the drama ran for 14 seasons from 1978 through 1991, spawned a popular spinoff we’ll talk about later, and even led to a revival that began in 2012 and ran for three seasons.

Blue Bloods

Of all the shows canceled in 2024, Blue Bloods hurt the most for fans and cast members alike. The police drama that brought Tom Selleck back to weekly television focuses on cases of the week and how they affect a family of cops in New York City, the Reagans. 

The Simpsons

If you know anything about TV for the past 30 or so years, you must have known that The Simpsons would be on here. The animated comedy about the eponymously named family and their many friends, family, allies and foes in Springfield, USA is an institution at this point. It stands as the longest-running American scripted primetime show, American sitcom and animated show in the States.

Criminal Minds

As we’ve seen, viewers love crime solvers, and they embraced another team of them with the FBI agents of Criminal Minds. The criminal profilers we watched traveled the country to catch unsubs who’d committed some heinous acts, and the show was so popular that after it ended in 2020 with Season 15, it was brought back a mere two years later with Criminal Minds: Evolution on Paramount+.

ER

Do you know what other genre of series seems to have enduring popularity? Medical shows. And, for a long time, there was none more famed than NBC’s ER. The drama that made George Clooney, Julianna Margulies, Eriq La Salle and many others household names started in 1994 and ran for 15 seasons with a total of 331 episodes, lasting through a number of cast changes. For many, it’s still the benchmark of what a medical drama should be.

American Dad!

A lot of the credit to our love of primetime animation over the past few decades goes to Fox, which was also home to another of Seth MacFarlane’s notable wacky comedies: American Dad! The series ran for 11 seasons there, and then moved to TBS.

Law & Order: SVU

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is a spinoff. A spinoff that went on to surpass it's original show, Law & Order both in the number of seasons and in the number of episodes. It's just remarkable. 

Gunsmoke

So, what shows could have beaten SVU when it comes to episode numbers, aside from The Simpsons and Lassie? You guessed it: Gunsmoke! The Western series following U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon and friends ran for two decades, from 1955 through 1975, and racked up 635 episodes.

King Of The Hill

It seems we just never get enough of our animated families, and the same was true of Hank, Peggy and Bobby Hill on Fox’s King of the Hill. The comedy was a hit for 13 seasons and makes the list with 259 episodes.

Knots Landing

You’ll remember what a big deal Dallas was, managing to air 357 episodes. Well, its fellow nighttime soap spinoff, Knots Landing, was also a big hit. It ran for 14 seasons and 344 episodes.

Murder, She Wrote

Cozy mysteries have never really gone out of style, but they used to be all over TV, and Murder, She Wrote is still the favorite of many despite it having been off the air for nearly 30 years as of this writing. The Angela Lansbury-led drama about a mystery writer who solves crimes in her small, murder-prone community of Cabot Cove, Maine had a great run from 1984 through 1996. 

The Jeffersons

If you’d like to talk about some of the longest-running sitcoms, The Jeffersons lands squarely in that category. Going for 11 seasons from 1975 through 1985, this Norman Lear hit that followed an upwardly mobile Black couple after they moved from Queens to Manhattan to begin a fancier life was a spinoff of All in the Family that surpassed its parent show by netting 253 episodes, compared with the earlier series’ 205.

Cheers

Sometimes it takes a bit for a show to really catch on, and that was the case with Cheers. The comedy, set largely in the eponymous Boston bar, was so close to ranking last during its inaugural 1982-83 season that it was nearly canceled. As we know, however, things did pick up, and enough that the show would last for 11 seasons and launch the careers of Ted Danson, Woody Harrelson, Kirstie Alley, Kelsey Grammer and more.

Married...With Children

Fox hit pay dirt again in 1987 with Married…with Children. Seen as the first risqué sitcom to air on American network TV, the show that followed the Bundy family rode all of its controversies through 11 successful seasons and ended as the longest-running live-action sitcom from the network.

The Big Bang Theory

After a slow start in the first two seasons, Season 3 saw The Big Bang Theory (about a group of scientists and their pretty neighbor) begin to take off, eventually becoming one of the most-watched comedies of its time. The series ran for 12 seasons, until 2019, and spawned multiple spinoffs.

Law & Order

DUNH DUNH. Those serious, gavel-esque tones are still familiar to everyone who’s paid any attention to television crime dramas over the past few years, as even though Law & Order (which began in 1990 and led to numerous spinoffs, including the previously mentioned SVU) originally ended its run after 20 seasons in 2010, not only has it been in syndication for decades, but in 2021 it was revived and added more to its episode count. 

CSI

We got a very different kind of crime procedural in 2000 when CSI premiered, and we adored it. The Vegas-set drama that liked to zoom in on wounds not only began a franchise that led to a number of spinoffs, but the original show ran for 15 seasons and had a three-season revival that meant it wrapped with 378 episodes. 

The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet

Here’s another series you can be forgiven for not realizing it had a long run. The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet (which focused on the titular married couple and their family) began way back in 1952 and ended in 1966. While it’s not our longest-running live-action sitcom (that honor goes to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), it does still have more episodes than any other at 435.

Two And A Half Men

From powerhouse sitcom creator Chuck Lorre (who was also behind The Big Bang Theory), Two and a Half Men was yet another megahit. The series followed down-on-his-luck divorced dad Alan and his son after having to move in with Alan’s rich, partying bachelor brother, Charlie. The comedy ran from 2003 through 2015.

My Three Sons

Don’t remember My Three Sons? That’s OK, because it ended its 12-season run in 1972. The comedy that followed a widower and, yes, his three young sons, was clearly beloved and racked up an impressive 380 episodes.

NYPD Blue

NYPD Blue quickly became one of our most acclaimed (and controversial) police dramas, which meant big business and a long run. Lasting for 12 seasons, from 1993-2005, it was ABC’s longest-running hour-long drama until Grey’s Anatomy left it in the dust in 2016.

Beverly Hills, 90210

This is our last nighttime soap, but it was a doozy. Beverly Hills, 90210 was the first primetime teen drama to become a pop culture touchstone, launching the careers of stars like Jenny Garth, Luke Perry, and the late Shannen Doherty. With 10 seasons (1990-2000), it led to a franchise of five spinoffs/revivals, though most were short-lived, with the exception of Melrose Place.

Perry Mason

Series about those in the legal profession can give thanks to Perry Mason, one of the first such shows to garner both critical acclaim and mass popularity. The drama followed the title character, an L.A. criminal defense attorney, as he attempts to prove his clients' innocence (usually after they’re accused of murder). After nine successful seasons, which ended in 1966, the show eventually led to a short-lived revival and a long run of 30 made-for-TV films.

NCIS: Los Angeles

And here we have another of the uber-popular NCIS franchises, this one focusing on Naval investigators in Los Angeles. For a spinoff, 14 seasons (2009-2023) and 323 episodes is nothing to sneeze at.

As you can see, TV fans have helped to keep many of their favorite shows on the air for well over 250 episodes, and there’s no doubt that this list will continue to grow!

The notion of a TV show going through cast changes for one reason or another isn’t all that unusual. In some cases, an actor might choose to leave a show in order to pursue other opportunities. And, at other times, a character naturally runs their course and is written out, leading to a star being ushered out of a production gracefully. However, there have been a number of instances in which an actor has dramatically exited a popular show for more salacious reasons. And we’re going to talk about a number of those situations.

Mackenzie Phillips (One Day At A Time)

Mackenzie Phillips dealt with substance and alcohol abuse during her tenure on One Day at a Time. As her problems increased and she allegedly became erratic on set, the actress was fired after the fifth season of the Norman Lear-produced sitcom. After voluntarily receiving treatment, Philips was invited back to the series at the start of Season 7. But, as mentioned in her Biography special she was fired one more time early in Season 9.

Delta Burke (Designing Women)

Designing Women cast member Delta Burke, who played breakout character Suzanne Sugarbaker, left the beloved CBS comedy after its fifth season. At the time, Burke was having issues with series creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason. While appearing on the Glamorous Trash podcast years later, Burke said she and the EP “tried to kill each other” but “survived.” They eventually patched things up and teamed up again for a short-lived spinoff series, Women of the House.

John Amos (Good Times) 

Fans, like myself, would probably argue that Good Times – one of the greatest sitcoms of all time – changed tremendously after John Amos’ James Evans Sr. was written out following Season 3. That creative decision was the result of Amos being incredibly vocal about his frustrations with the direction of the show and even threatening the writers. As the actor explained during an interview, series EP Norman Lear called him up personally to tell him he’d been fired. 

Rob Lowe (The West Wing)

Before he dazzled on Parks and Recreation and after rising to prominence as a “Brat Pack” member, Rob Lowe starred on The West Wing. The show was originally set to center around his character, Sam Seaborn, though the focus shifted early on. Feeling underutilized as time went on, Lowe left the show after four seasons.

Roseanne Barr (Roseanne)

Roseanne Barr’s eponymous ABC sitcom was revived for a tenth season that aired in 2018, and it saw considerable success. Following its renewal, Barr was fired after posting a tweet about former government official Valerie Janet that was condemned as being racist. Her dismissal led to the cancellation of Roseanne and the conception of a spinoff sequel series The Conners.

Janet Hubert (The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air)

Two actresses portrayed Vivian “Aunt Viv” Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the first being Janet Hubert. By the NBC sitcom’s third season, she and lead actor Will Smith began to butt heads. Both were also dealing with situations in their personal lives. Ultimately, Hubert left Fresh Prince due to getting an unsatisfactory new contract offer and, years later, she and Smith made amends during the show’s 2020 reunion.

Kevin Spacey (House Of Cards)

House of Cards experienced a significant shake-up after Kevin Spacey was accused of being inappropriate towards actor Anthony Rapp while he was still a minor. Netflix eventually cut ties with Spacey and, as a result, he was replaced as the lead of the show by co-star Robin Wright.

Charlie Sheen (Two And A Half Men)

When it comes to an exit from a TV series, few get more dramatic than Charlie Sheen’s departure from Two and a Half Men. During the eighth season of the hit CBS show, he made headlines for partaking in wild parties and even entered rehab. Sheen’s fate was sealed, however, when he made disparaging remarks about series co-creator Chuck Lorre. Men would continue for four more seasons, with Ashton Kutcher taking over as co-lead.

Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) 

There are a lot of moving parts to Katherine Heigl’s Grey’s Anatomy exit, but it was truly set in motion after the actress kept her name from Emmy consideration in 2008. Heigl did that because she didn’t think the work she’d done for that particular season was Emmy-worthy. In 2009, the Izzie Stevens actress accused series creator Shonda Rhimes and the producers of initiating long work hours for the cast and crew. And, in 2010, amid Season 6 of the drama series, Rhimes released Heigl from her contract early.

Valerie Harper (Valerie/Valerie’s Family/The Hogan Family)

Amid the second season of Valerie, lead actress Valerie Harper became engaged in a salary dispute with both NBC and production company Lorimar. It was after that season that the Emmy winner was fired, and she ultimately sued both of the aforementioned companies for breach of contract. The series aired for four more seasons – and had two more names. But, ultimately, Harper won her case and was awarded $1.4 million and future show profits.

Robert Downey Jr. (Ally McBeal)

Robert Downey Jr. had experienced a number of personal issues by the time he was cast for Season 4 of Ally McBeal, and they continued throughout his tenure. During that season, he was arrested in November 2000 for drug possession and was taken into custody again under suspicion of being under the influence in Culver City in 2001. With that, Downey was fired from McBeal.

Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent)

In 2017, amid the MeToo Movement, Jeffrey Tambor was accused of inappropriate behavior by his former assistant. Shortly after, one of Tambor’s Transparent co-stars accused him of misconduct as well. Amazon, which had renewed the Emmy-winning dramedy for a fifth and final season, officially fired Tambor in early 2018. His character, who was the lead, was ultimately killed off in the musical series finale special.

Esther Rolle (Good Times)

Esther Rolle took issue with some of the creative decisions made on Good Times, not unlike her co-star, John Amos – who was fired after Season 3 even though Rolle was more publicly vocal about her disdain. Given her discomfort, Rolle left after the fourth season when her contract expired. She did, however, return as a main cast member for the sixth and final season. 

Suzanne Somers (Three’s Company)

Some TV devotees may not be aware that Suzanne Somers exited Three’s Company after five seasons due to a salary dispute with ABC’s execs. Her attempts to renegotiate a new deal proved to be unsuccessful, and her contract was not renewed. Throughout the remainder of the show's run, Somers' Chrissy Snow would be succeeded by two other characters.

Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill)

Many were likely surprised when Chad Michael Murray was one of two major stars to exit One Tree Hill ahead of its seventh season. At this point, there’s been no clear reason as to why Murray, who played Lucas Scott parted ways with the show. Some contend that he was ready to leave, but Murray was even recorded saying that the network wanted to drop him to save money.

Lori Loughlin (Fuller House)

Veteran actress Lori Loughlin was starring on Netflix’s Fuller House when she was indicted as part of the 2019 college admissions scandal. In 2020, Loughlin pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and was sentenced to two months in prison. Given her legal woes, Loughlin’s Aunt Becky was excluded from the sitcom’s final season.

Isaiah Washington (Grey’s Anatomy)

It was in October 2006 that Isaiah Washington made headlines after it was reported that during an on-set conflict with Patrick Dempsey, he insulted their fellow Grey’s Anatomy co-star, T.R. Knight, with a homophobic slur. Washington reportedly issued an apology though, by the summer of 2007, his contract with ABC was eliminated after Season 3. Washington did, however, reprise the role for a Season 10 episode.

Thomas Gibson (Criminal Minds)

Criminal Minds fired Thomas Gibson amid production on Season 12. As has been reported, Gibson, who was directing an episode at the time, had a disagreement with the episode’s writer. The scribe was on set at the time and, during an encounter with Gibson, the actor apparently kicked him. Gibson subsequently expressed regret over his actions.

Shannen Doherty (Charmed)

Few TV deaths were more tragic than that of Shannen Doherty’s Prue Halliwell during Charmed’s third season finale. In the years since she departed the show, Doherty has claimed that her on-set tension with co-star Alyssa Milano caused her to be let go. For her part, Milano said she was “sad” that Doherty blamed her for how everything panned out.

Danny Masterson (The Ranch)

While starring on Netflix’s The Ranch, Danny Masterson was investigated by police due to allegations of assault by multiple women. Masterson was soon fired from the series amid production on Season 3 and, in 2023, he was sentenced to prison.

Ruby Rose (Batwoman)

After leading Batwoman for just one season, Ruby Rose exited the Arrowverse show in 2020. The actress initially attributed her decision to the “taxing” nature of heading up a TV show as well as an allergic reaction to the latex in her costume. However, Rose later made claims of an abusive workplace against her ex-co-stars, The CW and more. Warner Bros. TV denied the allegations as did Rose’s former scene partners.

Cindy Williams (Laverne & Shirley)

Laverne & Shirley lost co-lead Cindy Williams early into the show’s eighth and final season. Williams became pregnant early into production and, as she explained to Today, she wouldn’t sign a new contract due to the producers having her work on her due date. So Penny Marshall’s Laverne DeFazio finished out those last episodes without Williams’ Shirley Feeney.

Chevy Chase (Community)

It’s been well documented that Community’s Chevy Chase had creative differences with series creator Dan Harmon over his character, Pierce Hawthorne. While working on Season 4, the veteran funnyman reportedly had an on-set tirade during which he dropped the N-word. Chase departed the show shortly after that.

Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-0)

Daniel Dae Kim’s exit from CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 reboot after seven seasons came down to a salary dispute with the network. After the news of his departure was reported, Kim himself (who was one of the procedural’s most recognizable stars) addressed the situation, confirming that he and the network couldn’t agree to terms on a new deal.

Lisa Bonet (A Different World)

Cosby Show spinoff A Different World finished its first season on NBC in early 1988 and, afterward, lead actress Lisa Bonet announced her pregnancy with then-husband Lenny Kravitz. The sitcom’s incoming showrunner, Debbie Allen, wanted to keep Bonet on the show and depict her character, Denise Huxtable, as a single mom. But, as Allen explained years later, series creator Bill Cosby preferred that Bonet be dropped from the show.

Columbus Short (Scandal)

After three seasons on ABC’s Scandal, Columbus Short was removed from the cast of the hit drama series. It was during that time that the actor was dealing with personal issues and was even arrested on a domestic violence charge. Short later explained that he was cut due to his struggles with drugs and alcohol.

Gina Carano (The Mandalorian)

MMA fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano established a polarizing social media presence during her two-season stint on The Mandalorian. Among the controversial posts she shared was a message that seemingly compared being a modern-day conservative to being a Jewish person during the Holocaust. Disney and Lucasfilm fired Carano in 2021 ahead of the highly popular Star Wars show’s third season.

Nicollette Sheridan (Desperate Housewives)

Desperate Housewives star Nicollette Sheridan was written out of the show after the show’s fifth season, with her character, Edie Britt, being killed off. Several years later, the actress filed suit against Marc Cherry, the show’s creator and ABC. Sheridan alleged that Cherry assaulted her on the set and that she was fired for reporting it. Cherry provided an account of events and, in time, the harassment claims were thrown and Sheridan was unsuccessful in getting a retrial.

T.R. Knight (Grey’s Anatomy)

In 2009, T.R. Knight – who played Dr. George O’Malley on Grey’s Anatomy – left the show after the fifth season. Knight said his reason for leaving was due to a “breakdown of communication” with series EP Shonda Rhimes, his own decision to come out as gay and more. This also all came a few years after Knight was allegedly insulted with a homophobic slur by ex-co-star Isaiah Washington. 

Hilarie Burton (One Tree Hill)

Much has been said about Hilarie Burton’s exit from One Tree Hill after the sixth season. The most common assertion has been that the Peyton Sawyer actress couldn’t agree with the network on a new deal. Interestingly, while Burton recalled filming her final scene for the show, she noted that while shooting another sequence, a producer announced on set that the show was renewed for Season 7. However, both Burton and co-star Chad Michael Muray were surprised as they apparently hadn’t been offered new deals.

Justin Roiland (Rick And Morty)

Rick and Morty actor and co-creator Justin Roiland was fired from the Adult Swim show in 2023 after it was revealed that he was facing a domestic violence charge and other offenses in court. Roiland’s case was eventually thrown out later that year. However, the animator and voice actor was later accused of assault and messaging underage girls.

John Rhys-Davies (Sliders)

The sci-fi cult classic Sliders lost cast member John Rhys-Davies when the actor opted to depart after three seasons amid other cast changes. Sometime later, Rhys-Davies explained that he left due to conflicts with the writers. The veteran actor later explained that by the time he left the show, the scripts had become “incomprehensible gibberish.”

Actor Taylor Wily’s entertainment journey began in part with the onset of the UFC, as he was a celebrated sumo wrestler at the time, but it was Forgetting Sarah Marshall and later Hawaii Five-0 that turned him into a fan-favorite. Unfortunately, Wily’s manager confirmed going into the weekend that his client passed away on Thursday, June 20, citing natural causes as the reasoning.

Understandably, the news came as a shock to Wily’s former CBS TV family (or families, if one counts his multiple appearances as Kamekona on Magnum P.I.), as well as to the fanbase that has grown over the years. Many shared their respects on social media, including some of the drama’s stars and its creator.

Creator Peter Lenkov Pays Respect

As the main creative force who was behind putting Taylor Wily in the Hawaii Five-0 universe, the reboot’s developer Peter Lenkov has clearly been taken aback by Taylor Wily’s death, and after posting his initial state of shock online, he then shared a tribute filled with fun pictures on Instagram, along with the touching message seen below:

It’s awesome to hear that Lenkov and Wily were still in touch as recently as a week before the actor’s passing. It’s been a little over four years since Hawaii Five-0 was canceled and its unplanned Season 10 finale aired, though Kamekona’s final TV appearance actually took place on Magnum P.I. in an episode that aired a few weeks after the former drama’s final ep. Lenkov (who was fired from the latter drama) shared another post that reflected on the hypothetical plans to open a single Kamekona Shaved-Ice stand for Wily to visit. In his words:

Maybe that dream will still happen one day, though I don’t know if they’d ever extend those entrepreneurial goals to opening up a Kamekona Shrimp Truck and/or a helicopter tour business.

Daniel Dae Kim's Tribute

Though Daniel Dae Kim’s time on the network drama was controversially cut short when he and co-star Grace Park exited Hawaii Five-0 early over contractual disputes, the Good Doctor vet shared an Instagram Stories tribute to Taylor Wily, as seen below.

Kim vacated the role of Chin Ho Kelly during the hiatus between Seasons 7 and 8, and didn’t return at any point during the following three seasons. But it does seem like Taylor Wily left as much of a mark on the actor as he did with everyone else.

Jorge Garcia Shares Love For Taylor Wily

Lost vet Jorge Garcia is another Hawaii Five-0 vet who didn't make it through to the end of the series' network run, as his character Jerry Ortega was written out in the Season 10 premiere. But it certainly seems like he had a solid bond with Taylor Wily, as seen in the costumed post below.

As Garcia revealed in his post, it wasn’t even Wily’s Kamekona that first won him over, but rather the Hawaiian actor spoofing Garcia’s Lost character Hugo “Hurley” Reyes in a local ad. If only that could have been turned into a full-length project.

Will Yun Lee's Video Post

Though he wasn’t one of the main characters in Hawaii Five-0’s run, Will Yun Lee is one of the CBS drama’s most memorable recurring guest stars, having appeared just under a dozen times as informant Sang Min Soo, who just loves to get under the team members’ skin. Lee also took to his Instagram page to share love for his former co-star with the following post:

The first couple of decades of television produced some really great shows, and a couple of decades after that, once the Baby Boomers grew up and had children, a ton of those shows were rebooted for a new generation, Generation X. There was definitely some Boomer-nostalgia going on with some of the shows on this list as well. Not all of them worked, either, in fact, many didn’t work at all, but some launched an entirely new era of classic franchises. Without further ado, here are quite a few of the classic shows that were later rebooted for Gen X (and their parents). 

Hawaii Five-0

The original Hawaii Five-0 was one of the hippest shows on TV when it debuted in 1968. It was so popular that it lasted all the way to the 1980s, ending its run in 1980 after 12 seasons. In 2010, CBS rebooted the show for a new generation of fans, updating it for a new millennium, but doing its best to keep the “cool” factor. It made sure to make throwbacks to the old show, including the iconic line, “Book ‘em, Danno” on occasion. It also updated the always cool theme song. 

Perry Mason

Perry Mason has quietly been one of the most enduring franchises in modern media history. There have been books, movies, a radio show, and, most notably, the TV show starring Raymond Burr as Mason that ran for 271 episodes from 1957-1966. Burr returned in the ‘80s for a series of TV movies, 30 of them in all, between 1985 and 1995. Most recently, it was rebooted yet again for a critically acclaimed run on HBO with Matthew Rhys as the titular character which ran for two seasons. 

The New Adam-12

The original Adam-12 isn’t as remembered today as other shows from its era (it ran seven seasons from the late ‘60s until the mid '70s), but that didn’t stop a reboot from happening in 1990. The reboot wasn’t all that successful though, lasting only two seasons that ran consecutively for 52 weeks in a row. It really only shared a premise though, as none of the characters from the original appeared in the reboot. 

The Twilight Zone

The Twilight Zone is one of the most legendary shows from the early years of television and starred an incredible amount of big-name actors. The dirty little secret is that it was not as appreciated in its time as it was later. Ratings were never great during its original run from 1959-1964, but that didn’t stop CBS from rebooting in 1985 after the middling success of the controversial film. The new show didn’t fare better, as it was never a ratings success either, but still did manage to run for three seasons, even including an updated theme song by the Grateful Dead. It was rebooted again for one season in 2002, and yet again in 2019 by Jordan Peele to great fanfare, but again struggled to find an audience. 

The New Leave It to Beaver

One of the strangest entries on this list has to be The New Leave It to Beaver. It’s really more of a sequel to the original Leave It To Beaver than a reboot, as it starred most of the original actors in their original roles, all grown up with their own children in the 1980s. As much about Boomer nostalgia than anything, somehow the bizarre “sequel” worked and aired for four somewhat successful seasons. 

Jeopardy!

Even classic ‘60s game shows got the rebooting treatment in the 1980s. Sure, we look at Jeopardy! today and think of the Alex Trebek era as the definitive era, and it is, but Merv Griffen first created the show in 1964, when it aired during the day for 11 years with host Art Flemming. Other than a short run in the late ‘70s, the franchise was dormant until 1984 when Griffen relaunched it with Trebek at the helm and the rest is history. 

Star Trek

Of course, any list like this must include Star Trek. The original series ran for three seasons, from 1966 to 1969 and then it was 10 years before the first movie was made. 18 years after the original signed off, the series was first rebooted with The Next Generation in 1987. That series, starring Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard was a huge success in syndication and now, the franchise is ubiquitous, with more than a dozen movies and almost as many TV shows. 

The Outer Limits

In 1963 ABC launched The Outer Limits to go up against The Twilight Zone on CBS. The Outer Limits was more sci–fi than its rival, and it wasn’t quite as successful, lasting just two seasons. It was much more successful 30 years later when it was rebooting in 1995. The second incarnation of the show lasted seven seasons and 152 episodes on Showtime and the Sci-fi network. 

The New Dragnet

Dragnet, starring Jack Webb as Sgt. Joe Friday began as a radio show, starting in 1949. In 1951, it moved to TV and ran for eight legendary seasons of “just the facts.” Jack Webb returned in 1967 for another, updated Dragnet, that ran for four more seasons. In 1987, Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks teamed up for a Dragnet movie, one of many films based on old TV shows as well. Finally, in 1989, The New Dragnet launched in first-run syndication, lasting two seasons.

Ponderosa

Two of the longest-running shows of the ‘50s and ‘60s were westerns. Gunsmoke which ran for 20 seasons on CBS, and its rival on NBC Bonanza, which aired for 14 seasons. In 2001, Bonanza’s creator David Dortort created Ponderosa on PAX-TV as a prequel to the original show, though it only lasted for one season. 

New Monkees

In the mid-’80s, Gen X discovered The Monkees when MTV starred re-air the episodes of the original show. It proved popular enough that Coca-Cola (yes, the soda company) produced New Monkees, with an entirely new cast, and new characters, but with the same premise following the life of a fictional band. It was about you expect for a show made by Coke, and it lasted only 13 episodes, mirroring New Coke with its lack of success.

The Prisoner

The British show The Prisoner from 1967 is one of the coolest and most influential shows in the sci-fi genre. Showrunners from shows like Lost and The X-Files have cited it as an inspiration and it has been rebooted in many forms over the years, including in 2009 when AMC remade it for more modern times, starring Jim Caviezel as the titular character. 

Love Boat: The Next Wave

Producer Aaron Spelling helped define Gen X with Beverly Hills, 90210, and Melrose Place, but when he tried to reboot another classic show of his, The Love Boat in the ‘90s, it didn’t work out as well. Love Boat: The Next Wave, starring Robert Urich as the captain, somehow managed to last 25 episodes, but I dare you to find anyone who saw even one. 

The New Gidget

In the mid-’80s, it was popular to reboot classic shows with “New” in the title. The New Gidget was one of those. Gone was Sally Field in the title role, along with the rest of the original cast. The show managed to last two seasons in first-run syndication. 

The Munsters Today

The Munsters Today is kind of like The Brady Bunch movies that came out in the ‘90s. The premise is that the Munters all get put to sleep by Grandpa Munster in the ‘60s, and don’t wake up until 1988. It’s amazing that it lasted three seasons in syndication. 

Route 66

No show conveyed the American optimism of the early ‘60s quite like Route 66 did. Just two guys, a big American sports car, and the open road. 30 years later, however, NBC made a misguided attempt to reboot the series, this time about the son of one of the original characters. The show lasted less than a month in the summer of ‘93, airing only four episodes. 

The Fugitive

Everyone remembers the 1993 movie The Fugitive starring Harrison Ford based on the ‘60s TV show of the same name, but that’s not the only reboot of the wildly popular show. Fewer people remember that in 2000, CBS rebooted the show, starring Tim Daly as Dr. Richard Kimble. The show was good and was nominated for some awards, but failed to find an audience and was canceled after just one season. 

Sea Hunt

In a lot of ways, Sea Hunt was ahead of its time. Not only was the show about a scuba diver (Lloyd Bridges), which was a very new activity in the early ‘60s, but at the end of each episode, Bridges would appear as himself and plead with viewers to protect marine life. It makes sense that in the ‘80s, when scuba diving and environmentalism were more mainstream, it would be rebooted, alas it only lasted one season. 

Lost In Space

The original Lost In Space from the mid-sixties was set in…1997. So while the future didn’t quite work out the way it did on the popular show, even further into the future, in 2018, the show got rebooted for a fairly successful three-season run on Netflix. 

The Untouchables

The Untouchables movie starring Kevin Costner, loosely based on the TV show of the same name from the early ‘60s, was a massive hit. In 1993, the show itself was rebooted by Paramount TV, starring Tom Amandes as Eliot Ness, though it lasted just two seasons in syndication and has been since forgotten by most. 

The New Lassie

Will Estes is best known as Jamie Reagan, as part of the cast of Blue Bloods, but did you know he was a child actor as well? In fact, he starred in a reboot of one of the most beloved kid shows, Lassie, which ran for an astonishing 19 seasons. The New Lassie launched in 1993 and didn’t last quite as long, making it just two seasons. 

Get Smart

In the wake of the wildly successful James Bond series came Get Smart in 1965, starring Don Adams as secret agent goofball Maxwell Smart. 30 years later, the show was rebooted by Fox, with Adams reprising his role as Smart as the head of CONTROL. It only lasted seven episodes. 

Mission: Impossible

Tom Crusie has taken stunts to the next level in the seven Mission: Impossible movies, based on the hip show from the late 1960s. Cruise’s take on the series wasn’t the first reboot, however. In 1988, Peter Graves, who played Jim Phelps, returned to the role in a new version of the show that lasted just two seasons on ABC. 

Columbo

Less of a reboot than a continuation of the original series,  Columbo which debuted in 1968, took a decade-long hiatus between 1978 when the first show ended, and 1989 when it returned to TV, with the great Peter Falk once again playing the bumbling but brilliant detective. The show proved it had staying power, too, lasting four more seasons in its second life. 

The Brady Bunch

There is no show that Gen Xers watched more in reruns than The Brady Bunch, so it makes sense that the franchise would be rebooted multiple times, including a continuation series with many of the original cast that aired for six episodes on CBS in 1990 called simply The Bradys before getting canned for poor ratings. 

Burke's Law

It’s fair to say that Burke’s Law, which ran for three seasons in the early 1960s was not the most remembered show of the era, but that didn’t stop CBS from trying to revive the franchise in 1992 starring the show’s original lead Gene Barry in the titular role. Somehow it made it two seasons, though not many remember that, either. 

Mockingbird Lane

By far the oddest show on this list has to be Mockingbird Lane, which was a pilot/special that aired on NBC as a reboot of The Munsters, starring Jerry O’Connell as Herman Munster. The one-off had hopes to turn into a series, but it was a ratings bomb and one episode is all audiences got. 

Ironside

Raymond Burr may best be known for Perry Mason, but in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s he starred as Ironside on the show of the same name about a wheelchair-bound private detective. It was a big hit in its day and that led to a reboot in 2013 starring Blair Underwood as Ironside. Sadly, it didn’t work and only four episodes aired before it was canceled. 

Bewitched

This is the story of what could have been or what might be. The original Bewitched, which aired for eight seasons in the ‘60s and early ‘70s was beloved by Boomers and Gen X alike, the latter finding it in reruns. Multiple attempts have been made to reboot the show, but all have failed, most recently in 2018. At least fans have an episode of WandaVision to bring back the nostalgia. 

The Flintstones

The Flintstones remains one of the most popular franchises of all time, and while the original ended in 1966, it’s been rebooted many times on TV and in movies, most recently in a show called Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs on Max which ended in 2022 after two seasons.

Flipper

It’s hard to believe you can make a successful show about a dolphin, but Flipper was very popular in the mid-'60s. So popular, it turns out, and so enduring, that PAX-TV rebooted the show in the mid-’90s and it lasted three seasons, starring a young Jessica Alba, of all people. 

Doctor Who

What can you really say about the enduring legacy of Doctor Who that hasn’t already been said? The original run lasted an amazing 26 seasons on BBC from the early ‘60s until the late ‘80s. Even years after it was canceled, it continued to find a dedicated audience and finally, in 2005 the show was rebooted and updated for modern times, and again found that audience. It’s still going today, with no sign of slowing down. 

Not every reboot is a good idea, as this list can attest, but that doesn't mean they won't keep trying. When there is nostalgia and a built-in audience, Hollywood will always try to revive a good franchise. 

Today, TV theme songs just don't have the same pop that they used to have. Back in the day, they had real style, and they almost told a whole story in the little time they had before the show started. You could make an entire mix tape of nothing but great themes and play it at a party and it would get the place jumping. Here are some of those great songs that still slap, all these years later. 

Magnum, PI

One of the best shows of the '80s deserved one of the best theme songs and Magnum, PI has one. Did you know the one we all love, written by theme song master Mike Post and jazz musician Pete Carpenter wasn't the original? The classic didn't actually become the theme until mid-way through the first season. The original one, written by Ian Freebairn-Smith wasn't bad, but the producers made a good call in changing it up. 

Barney Miller

A lot of classic themes start with a great bass line, but few have the style and pizazz of the line that starts the Barney Miller theme. Played by bassist Chuck Berghofer, for a theme written by Jack Elliott and Allyn Ferguson, it immediately immerses the viewer into the vibe of the show. A true classic. 

Welcome Back, Kotter

The theme to Welcome Back, Kotter, written by the lead singer of The Lovin' Spoonful, John B. Sebastian, was a huge hit in the summer of 1976. The song went all the way to #1 on the charts and remains a favorite to many. The show is mostly remembered for two things, helping launch the career of John Travolta, and the theme song. 

Sanford And Son

Leave it to a genius like Quincy Jones to compose one of the all-time great themes that is certainly to get you on your feet and dancing. The theme to Sanford and Son is a stone classic that has endured far longer than the show ever did. The show was great, but the theme is an all-timer. 

Dallas

Every Friday night when I was a kid, I was allowed to stay up to watch the intro to Dallas before bedtime. I loved the song so much that while I had no idea what the show was about, I still needed to hear the theme every weekend. Written by composer Jerrold Immel, the song is a perfect blend of late '70s disco and '80s synth. 

Good Times

The late, great Norman Lear produced a slew of classic TV shows in the '70s and '80s, and most of them had great theme songs. Take, for example, the theme to Good Times. Written by Dave Grusin and the team of Alan and Marilyn Bergman, and performed by the duo of Jim Gilstrap and Blinky Williams, the song sets the perfect tone for the show. 

CHiPs

For a kid in the 1980s, there was nothing cooler than CHiPs. The intro, with the California highway patrolmen on their bikes and the big brass sound and funky bass line of the theme, written by John Parker, signaled the upcoming hour of police excitement perfectly. 

Knight Rider

Composer Stu Phillips did a ton of TV score work, but by far his most remembered piece is that futuristic, funky theme to Knight Rider, which he co-wrote with series creator Glen A. Larson. Decades later, the tune continues to live on in songs like "Turn It Up (Remix) / Fire It Up" by Busta Rhymes and "I-E-A-I-A-I-O" by System of a Down. 

Starsky & Hutch

The theme to Starsky & Hutch changed over the years. The original, in the first seasons, isn't remembered at all, but the theme from the rest of the seasons, though altered a bit over the years, is still beloved. Written by saxophonist (and former member of The Blues Brothers) Tom Scott, it is as '70s as a song can get and matches the show's aesthetic brilliantly. 

Charlie's Angels

No TV show has ever been cooler than Charlie's Angels. Its legacy is so great that a small franchise of Charlie's Angels movies emerged decades after it went off the air. The theme, composed by theme music legend Jack Elliott, oozes the same cool that the show did with its smooth jazz sound. 

Hill Street Blues

Nobody has a resume for writing TV hit songs like Mike Post. The composer scored multiple Top 40 hits in the '70s and '80s and even a couple that landed in the top 10. The Hill Street Blues theme was one, reaching #10 on the Billboard charts in 1981.  

Miami Vice

Musician and composer Jan Hammer is a legend in the jazz world. In the broader world, he's known mostly for his brilliant theme song to Miami Vice. The song hit #1 on the charts in 1985 and scored Hammer two Grammys for "Best Instrumental Composition" and "Best Pop Instrumental Performance." Truly one of the all-time greats. 

What's Happening!!

Henry Mancini wrote more than 20 TV theme songs and contributed to dozens of movie soundtracks. One of his best is also one of his most underappreciated, the theme to What's Happening!!. It couldn't be more different than his most well-known songs, like the theme to The Pink Panther, but the whimsical number fits the vibe of the show perfectly. 

L.A. Law

Mike Post wrote a banger when he composed the stylish theme song to the ultra-stylish L.A. Law in the 1980s. It's based around a steady beat and a sax intro that is guaranteed to get stuck in your head after just one listen. It's a show you should check out if you love Suits and has great theme music.

One of the more underrated shows of the '80s was 227. Because it flies so far under the radar in modern times, so does its excellent theme song, called "No Place Like Home." Written by Ray Colcord and performed by the star of the show, the great Marla Gibbs, it deserves to be better remembered. 

Cheers

No list like this would be complete without the theme to Cheers. Truly an old-time banger, and a song that is a sure-fire way to get a great sing-a-long going. Co-written by Gary Portnoy and Lucy Hart-Angelo, "Everybody Knows Your Name" (which Portnoy also performed) had a longer version of the theme that was a minor hit on the charts and won an Emmy. 

The Rockford Files

Mike Post is the unofficial champion of TV theme song composers and one of his best is the super-'70s sounding theme to the James Garner show The Rockford Files. It defines the way theme songs sounded in that era and it's just perfect for the show. 

The Muppet Show

There isn't a more perfect theme song to match a show's vibe than the theme to The Muppet Show. It's bold and bombastic, smart and funny... it's everything you expect from a theme co-written by the legendary Jim Henson (along with composer Sam Pottle). It's time to raise the curtain. 

One Day At A Time

Songwriter Jeff Barry has written or co-written dozens of hit songs, working out of the famous Brill Building in New York. He also co-wrote the theme to One Day At A Time alongside his wife and writing partner Nancy. It's no surprise the song is so great and matches the hit show so well. The tune, called "This Is It" is so good, it was used again (sung by Gloria Estefan) for the rebooted version of One Day At A Time.

The Dukes Of Hazzard

There is plenty of controversy surrounding The Dukes Of Hazzard, like the Confederate flag on the roof of a car named after a Confederate general, but there should be no controversy surrounding its theme song. Written and performed by country legend Waylon Jennings, "The Dukes of Hazzard (Good Ol' Boys)," was a #1 hit on the country charts, and now, all these years later, a true classic. 

Three's Company

The theme to Three's Company asks us to "come and knock on (their) door," and that's exactly what everyone did during the show's run. It's that iconic guitar lick that leads into the verse that really slaps, though. Composer Joe Raposo nailed that. 

The Jeffersons

Admit it, as soon as you saw this you immediately started singing "Well, we're moving on up!" Everyone loves the theme to The Jeffersons. Everyone. While the comedy in and of itself is one of the best sitcoms in television history (even if the show never even hit 100 episodes), the theme song has taken on a life of its own. 

WKRP In Cincinnati

A TV show about a fictional rock radio station better have a great theme song, and WKRP In Cincinnati definitely does. Evoking what it's like to "live on the air in Cincinnati," the song, written by Tom Wells and show creator Hugh Wilson, features one of the best bass lines in TV history. 

Diff'rent Strokes

For many in Gen X, there is no bigger show in their collective memories than Diff'rent Strokes and the theme song is a major reason why. Not only was the show on weekly on NBC, it was in syndication for years. The theme, written by Alan Thicke (yes, that Alan Thicke), Al Burton, and Gloria Loring, told the whole backstory of the show perfectly each time it was on. 

Full House

Composer Jesse Frederick was the go-to guy for theme songs for the series that were part of ABC's TGIF lineup, including Family Matters and Step by Step, but his masterpiece is the theme to Full House. Frederick performed the original version, and Carly Rae Jepson was brought in to record the version used in the Netflix reboot Fuller House, which wrapped up after five seasons in 2020. 

Airwolf

Airwolf is pure 1980s and that extends to the theme song, which is a synth-driven banger by composer Sylvester Levay. Levay was also quintessential '80s, scoring or co-scoring soundtracks for movies like Cobra, Scarface, Flashdance, and many more. 

Night Court

Bass lines play an important role in TV theme songs, especially the ones that slap hard. Nothing slaps harder, literally, than the theme to Night Court. It's no surprise it was composed by Jack Elliott, who is also responsible for the funky themes to Barney Miller and Charlie's Angels.

Hawaii Five-O

One can't hear the Hawaii Five-O theme song and not immediately think of surf and sand. The song evokes the spirit of the show (both the original and the reboot) like few others do. Written by Morton Stevens, it's been reworked and recorded by different artists over the years, but its core is the same. Those drums! 

The Mary Tyler Moore Show

The Mary Tyler Moore Show was all about female empowerment and that goes double for the theme song, written by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Sonny Curtis. The chorus is an anthem; "You're gonna make it after all!" says everything a viewer needs to know about the show. Add in Mary Tyler Moore's hat toss at the end and you've got a pure classic. 

Mission: Impossible

Composer Lalo Schifrin won a Grammy for his original version of the Mission: Impossible theme song in 1967, and the song has lived on and on for decades since. It's been re-recorded, remixed, sampled, and covered countless times over the years, including for the movie franchise starring Tom Cruise, of course. 

Speed Racer

The theme to the original 1960s version of Speed Racer has all the drama and excitement that the anime show brought into homes every day for decades in American syndication. The melody was written by Nobuyoshi Koshibe for the Japanese version, with the American lyrics written by producer Peter Fernandez, who was responsible for bringing the show to the U.S. 

Fish

Jack Elliott has written some of the best TV themes of all time, so it makes sense that while the Barney Miller spinoff Fish, starring Abe Vigoda, only lasted 35 episodes, the theme still lives on in the minds of fans. It is even referenced (appropriately) by the band Phish in their song "Wombat."

For some shows, it's hard to imagine a different theme, like how The Office almost had a completely different one. It just wouldn't be the same.  The '90s and beyond have had some great ones, but there is nothing like those retro themes that really slap like those from the '70s and '80s. 

NCIS: Sydney is almost here and will open up a whole new world for the long-running franchise. The series is NCIS' first international spinoff, and CBS was even celebrating by airing Sydney commercials upside down to get people interested. While the NCIS: Sydney's main cast is completed, there’s always the possibility more stars could be added--particularly in the realm of guest stars. Could that even include Hawaii Five-0’s Australian lead Alex O’Loughlin? 

In 2011, NCIS: Los Angeles’ Daniela Ruah appeared on Hawaii Five-0 to reprise NCIS Special Agent Kensi Blye, and this brought the Hawaii-set series into the NCIS franchise. Even more, the two shows had a two-part crossover event the following year. Although Hawaii Five-0 ended three years ago, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the end for the show's characters. 

Creator Morgan O’Neill told TVLine there’s always a possibility they could be brought back:

To note though, O’Loughlin’s last acting credit was Hawaii Five-0, with nothing new planned yet. It’s been three years since fans last saw the actor on their screens. He was pretty steady with the acting since 2003 and starred on all 10 seasons of the CBS procedural, so it’s not surprising that he would want to take a bit of a break. However, his return to television is definitely long overdue. A show filming in his home country and returning to CBS would surely be icing on the cake. Bring on the crossover!

Even if Alex O’Loughlin does eventually appear on NCIS: Sydney, it’s always possible that Steve McGarrett won’t. The actor could portray a completely different character instead, as it’s been done before. Take Katrina Law, for instance. O’Loughlin’s former Hawaii Five-0 co-star now stars on the mothership NCIS series as Jessica Knight rather than Quinn Liu. Either way, it would definitely be nice to see him on NCIS: Sydney, no matter what who he plays. It doesn’t seem like that will be happening any time soon, but hopefully the series will be renewed for a second season, so there are more chances.

Meanwhile, NCIS: Sydney may be taking place Down Under, but that isn’t stopping the series from referencing the rest of the NCIS franchise. Morgan O’Neill previously teased that there are Easter Eggs, but obviously wouldn’t specify what and how. NCIS is a big organization, so it’s likely the U.S. agents on Sydney have come across or at least heard of some of the agents that fans know well. It’s also possible that Sydney could get in on some crossover action once NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i finally come back following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike. 

Fans will have to tune in to NCIS: Sydney on the 2023 TV schedule to see what happens in this franchise's new series and hope that familiar faces will show up on Sydney sooner or later. The drama will officially premiere on CBS on Tuesday, November 14 at 8 p.m. ET, and can also be streamed with a Paramount+ subscription.

CBS has had a string of hit series set in Hawaii, but Hawaii Five-0 ended a year before NCIS: Hawai'i hit the airwaves. The shows do technically share a universe, however, thanks to a crossover back in the day between Five-0 and NCIS: Los Angeles, and it turns out that Five-0 and Hawai'i have a surprising connection that many fans may not be aware of. They use the same filming studio. 

NCIS: Hawai'i uses Hawaii Film Studio in Honolulu to film scenes that require the use of a sound stage and interiors, according to Decider, which is the same studio that was used during the production of Hawaii Five-0. That show ran for ten seasons. Hawaii Film Studio has also hosted Magnum P.I., which started off on CBS in 2018 before moving to NBC in 2023. 

The connection between NCIS: Hawai'i and Five-0 is particularly interesting in light of the timing. The series starring Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan was cancelled back in 2020 with just weeks left before the Season 10 finale was scheduled, turning that episode into a series finale that aired in May of the same year. 

The newest NCIS series premiered in September 2021, after filming began in June. NCIS: Hawai'i filming in the same studio as Hawaii Five-0 could have made for a pretty seamless transition. At the very least, it suggests that Hawaii Film Studios proved to be a great place for CBS series to film, if an entry in the NCIS franchise would film there as well!

There are further connections between the two shows, including former Hawaii Five-0 actress Katrina Law joining the cast of NCIS and then returning to the Aloha State for the three-show crossover event with NCIS: LA and the Vanessa Lachey-starring spinoff. There was even talk of more Hawaii Five-0 characters turning up in the NCIS franchise, although that hasn't happened. 

While Hawaii Five-0 is finished and no sign that CBS or any other network plans on bringing it back, NCIS: Hawai'i was renewed for Season 3 back in February. The hit show will not return as part of the fall 2023 TV schedule, however, as the WGA writers strike and SAG-AFTRA actors strike mean that production could not begin on the third season. The break meant that star Vanessa Lachey had time to go see Taylor Swift with her daughter, but she also spoke out about the Maui fires as well despite her show filming on O'ahu. 

Now, if all of this talk about CBS and the Aloha State has put you in the mood to revisit these shows, you're in luck. Both seasons of NCIS: Hawai'i so far and all ten seasons of Hawaii Five-0 are available streaming with a Paramount+ subscription. Five-0 crossed over with Magnum P.I. for a two-parter in the former's final season, although Magnum P.I. is not available on Paramount+ since the show was rescued by NBC. 

Before it was canceled, Hawaii Five-0 ran for 10 seasons and nearly 250 episodes from 2010 to 2020. It's an impressive run, to say the least, and it certainly kept itss cast and crew employed for a while. Despite that though, at least one star can think of a major drawback that comes with that kind of longevity. Series alum Scott Caan was the one to open up about the downside of working on the hit CBS show (and his reasoning makes sense).

Scott Caan, who portrayed Detective Sergeant Danno Williams of the HPD, was the latest guest on the podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum. While speaking to the Smallville alum, Caan said that he mostly had a great time filming the series. However, what he had a hard time with was the sometimes repetitive nature of the storytelling, which he believes isn't the best thing for an actor. When making his argument and discussing his work, he said:

What he seems to be saying here is that after playing a single role over hundreds of episodes, it's hard for an actor to truly surprise the audience with their skills. He also makes a fair point in that if material becomes too repetitive, it can become stale or schtick-like. This a very interesting dichotomy. Because on the one hand, you have job security, and that's certainly something that many people (and not just actors) seek. But in Scott Caan’s case, he also wanted to spread his wings a bit and flex his acting muscles with other projects, which is fair. As he even said during the convo, he wasn't able to make a movie for a decade.

The 46-year-old actor didn't appear in every installment, however, as he would miss multiple Hawaii Five-0 episodes per season, which he's provided an explanation for. Earlier this year, he clarified that he could've appeared in every one but would block time off to spend with his family. Later in his conversation with Michael Rosenbaum, he named his loved ones as some of the blessings to come from his time on the procedural:

At the very least, it's good to hear that there are a number of positives that he can take from the experience. You can see his interview in its entirety by watching the video below:

As mentioned, Scott Caan landed a new series, as he's one of the stars of Fox drama Alert: Missing Persons Unit, and it marks his first series regular role since the Hawaii-set drama ended. He's also done a few other things and most recently starred in One Day as a Lion, which is available with an Amazon Prime subscription. He's also set to star in the upcoming drama series Topangaland. Given his feelings about Hawaii Five-0, you have to wonder just how long Scott Caan would stick with his newest series, should it prove to be as successful. We'll just have to wait and see, but one does get the impression that he'll be a bit more thoughtful when it comes to choosing his projects moving forward.

Hawaii Five-0 wrapped its 10-season run back in 2020, just ahead of the massive production shutdowns that stemmed from the COVID lockdown. The show had a strong cast, which included series co-lead Scott Caan (who's now starring on the Fox series Alert). Though he's moved on, Caan still holds a special place in his heart for the CBS procedural. Something that many take note of during his tenure, though, is that he would miss multiple episodes every season. And the actor is now offering up an explanation for that.

Scott Caan appeared in 208 of Hawaii Five-0’s 240 episodes, which is impressive, though it's not surprising that fans would want to know why he didn't show up in more. During an interview with TVLine, his absences were brought up, and Caan provided a personal reason reasoning for not joining those installments:

The fact that the Ocean's Eleven star could have been in all of the episodes but chose not to so he could spend time with his family is more than understandable. Honestly, he could've also just left the series altogether but clearly wanted to stay on and continue playing Danny "Danno" Williams. So all in all, we can chalk this situation up to his desire for an effective work-life balance. 

It should also be said that Scott Caan seemed to give it his all whenever he did appear on the show, and fans would probably like to see him and the cast return at some point. The producers had major plans for Hawaii Five-0 following its cancellation, though it may still be possible for a reunion or crossover to happen in the future. Showrunner Peter M. Lenkov previously revealed that he wanted to have Adam and Kono reunite and, who knows, maybe he's still eager for that to come to fruition.

But what we know for sure right now is that Scott Caan is gearing up for his first major TV role since saying goodbye to Danny Williams. Alert is a Philadelphia-based thriller that centers around a Missing Persons Unit, and early footage gives the impression that it's going to be intense. Also, from a BTS standpoint, I'd imagine that Caan has worked out a schedule with producers that allows him to spend the optimal amount of time with his loved ones. Caan was initially supposed to star in and develop another CBS drama, Topangaland, which would have been his first Hawaii Five-0 follow-up. Unfortunately, progress on that eventually seemed to stall.

You can't keep Scott Caan down for long, though, as the man always bounces back. It's nice to have this clarity regarding why he missed episodes of Hawaii Five-0. We'll see how things progress on that front when his new show hits the small screen.

After having spent the first 15 years of his career almost entirely as a film actor, outside of pilots that didn’t move forward, Scott Caan flipped the TV script on that status quo first with a recurring role on Entourage and then with a decade-long starring role on CBS’ influential (if problematic for its own reasons) drama reboot Hawaii Five-0. After ten years of portraying Danno Williams in the Aloha State, Caan took a step back from the small screen to write, produce, and star in the upcoming crime drama One Day as a Lion, and it was announced last September that he would return to CBS for the drama Topangaland. That project’s fate is currently unclear, but Caan has now signed on for another big broadcast series that appears destined for a quicker debut. 

Scott Caan is set to take on a leading role for the new drama Alert, according to Variety, and fans don’t need to worry about this project falling through at any point, as Fox already confirmed its straight-to-series order in May 2022. For the new drama, Caan will be joining the previously cast Dania Ramirez, another Entourage vet whose recent years have been spent working on more fantastical TV series such as Once Upon a Time and Netflix’s soon-to-return hit Sweet Tooth. 

Alert will be set in Philadelphia (rather than its previous setting of Los Angeles), and will center on the officers comprising a missing persons unit. Scott Caan will be portraying a character named Devon who, surprisingly enough, isn’t inherently a higher-up within the MPU. A smart and exceptionally brave guy, Devon was in his element while in the unpredictable turmoil of war in Iraq, but after his eleven-year-old son disappears, his world is ripped out from beneath him. 

Six years after the boy first vanished, Devon’s existence has only darkened as he lives on in the ruins of his crumbled marriage. Then one day, he’s called up by his ex Nikki (Dania Ramirez), who is the lead supervisor of a missing persons unit, in the efforts to get him to help track down the young victim of a kidnapping. While there will no doubt be procedural elements involved, it already seems clear this show is destined to connect the cases together. And given this isn’t a premium cable network, the chances are far higher that the son will be found alive before all is said and done.

Alert is the creation of longtime writer and producer on The Blacklist, John Eisendrath, who will also taking on executive producer and showrunner duties for the Scott Caan drama. Given Caan’s recent push to put more creative efforts into the writing stages, it’s certainly possible he could also hop into the writers room on this project down the road. 

Since it's still in the casting stages, that likely means Alert has a production window in mind in the nearish future, though we probably won’t see Scott Caan in the role until late-Spring or Summer 2023. The Masked Singer Season 7 rounded out its first group of competitors with a double-elimination, which resulted in the dramatic Firefly’s advancement and the elimination of Cyclops and Thingamabob (who was the always busy NFL star Jordan Mailata). Cyclops’ Season 7 elimination revealed him to be actor Jorge Garcia, who audiences likely know from his time on Lost or Hawaii Five-0. According to the actor, working in Hawai'i helped him cope with a typical complaint of contestants on the Fox series regarding costume comfort.

The Masked Singer’s costumes are extravagant, but the contestants who use them often complain of vision and mobility problems in the masks, claustrophobia, and heat issues. Jorge Garcia didn’t have any issues with the last of those complaints and credited that bit to his time in Hawai'i, where he filmed Lost and Hawaii Five-0:

Jorge Garcia spoke about spending time in Hawaii, which isn’t much of a surprise. Both Hawaii Five-0 and Lost filmed extensively in Hawaii, so Garcia learned to live with being hot and coping with that feeling. That’s a super handy advantage for someone going on The Masked Singer, as the heat can really get to contestants. Hanging around in a big costume is hot enough, but adding stage lights and dancing around almost certainly heats things up a lot. 

Cyclops had a solid run in The Masked Singer and got a chance to sing a few songs before his elimination. While it’s fair to say that Firefly was the right choice to advance in the competition, it’s also fair to say that in another season, Jorge Garcia’s character could’ve gone a lot further, but that’s just the nature of any competition series. At least the world got to see Garcia showcase his skills as a singer and that there’s much more to him than his past iconic roles on television.

The NCIS universe is getting even bigger in the not-too-distant future thanks to the upcoming premiere of NCIS: Hawai'i. Unlike previous entries in the NCIS franchise, Hawai'i isn't launching with a backdoor pilot on one of the other series, and premieres just months after NCIS: New Orleans came to an end in the spring. Of course, Hawai'i also shares a universe with more shows than just the others that bear the NCIS name, with plenty both past and present. And one executive producer has weighed in on future potential crossovers between NCIS: Hawai'i and Hawaii Five-0, among other CBS shows.

Although NCIS: Hawai'i obviously shares a universe with NCIS, NCIS: LA, and the recently-ended NCIS: New Orleans, it also has connections to a number of other shows. Thanks to some crossover magic between the CBS shows, Hawai'i also exists in a world inhabited by characters from Magnum P.I., Hawai'i Five-0, Scorpion, and MacGyver. When asked at CBS' TCA Summer Press Tour about who from the other shows might be available to NCIS: Hawai'i, executive producer Christopher Silber weighed in:

Before helping to launch NCIS: Hawai'i for the fall season, Christopher Silber was a co-executive producer on the original NCIS for several years, and then executive producer on NCIS: New Orleans until it wrapped in the spring. So, he's certainly not kidding about having plenty of experience in the NCIS franchise! The most obvious shows for a potential crossover are Magnum P.I. and Hawaii Five-0, even though Hawaii Five-0 technically ended after ten seasons back in 2020.

Plenty of characters were still alive and around when Five-0 ended, so they could certainly turn up in theory. Plus, Magnum P.I. is just a few weeks away from premiering its fourth season on CBS. It would make sense for some of these characters to cross paths every once in a while. After all, if NCIS: Los Angeles could find a way to make a crossover with Hawaii Five-0 work, why can't NCIS: Hawai'i pull something off with Magnum P.I. on the same island?

In fact, NCIS: Hawai'i leading lady Vanessa Lachey already has an idea of how the characters from the shows could mingle. While it's not exactly the kind of plan that Gibbs over on the original NCIS would approve of (or Lachey's Jane Tennant, for that matter), it's definitely fun to imagine. She shared her vision for a crossover of sorts:

I can't speak for anybody else, but I know I would watch a dodgeball game between those three casts! Based on what has been previewed of NCIS: Hawai'i so far and the kind of action that Vanessa Lachey's Jane Tennant and Co. will face, I think it's safe to say that they'd be a formidable team in a game of dodgeball, no matter what kind of jerseys they'd get. Whether or not NCIS: Hawai'i ever gets to cross over with Hawaii Five-0 characters, an episode of Magnum P.I., or any other kind of connection to different shows within its shared universe, fans will soon get to see Vanessa Lachey and the rest of the cast in action. NCIS: Hawai'i premieres on Monday, September 20 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, immediately following the Season 19 premiere of NCIS that will presumably set the stage for much less of Mark Harmon moving forward.

For 10 seasons and 240 episodes, CBS's modernized reboot of Hawaii Five-0 became a mainstay on the popular network. Starring Alex O'Loughlin, Scott Caan, Grace Park, and Daniel Dae Kim, the procedural detective drama was a dependable franchise, spanning a few more shows, before its cancellation. Now that a year has passed since the series finale, fans are wondering what the Hawaii Five-0 cast is working on now. Let's find out!

Alex O’Loughlin (Lieutenant Commander Steven “Steve” McGarrett, USNR)

As Lieutenant Commander Steven "Steve" McGarrett, the Navy SEAL who founded and led the Hawaii Five-0, Alex O'Loughlin was the star of CBS's long-running reboot series. He also served as a writer, producer, and director. O'Loughlin's other TV credits include Three Rivers, Moonlight, The Shield, Mary Bryant, Criminal Minds, and White Collar Blue. Additionally, in film, the actor starred in The Back-Up Plan. Also, O'Loughlin can be seen in August Rush, Whiteout, The Invisible, The Holiday, Man-Thing, Oyster Farm, and Feed, which he also co-wrote and co-produced. His next project hasn't been announced yet.

Scott Caan (Detective Sergeant Danny “Danno” Williams, HPD)

In the role of Detective Sergeant Danny "Danno" Williams, a former New Jersey police detective who moves to Hawaii to be closer to his daughter, Scott Caan was the co-lead of CBS's Hawaii Five-0. He also played this part in NCIS: Los Angeles. The son of screen legend James Caan, the actor's other TV credits include Entourage and Vice Principals.

Away from television, Scott Caan starred in Ready to Rumble, A Boy Called Hate, Into the Blue, Black and White, Boiler Room, American Outlaws, In Enemy Hands, Brooklyn Rules, 3 Geezers!, and A Beginner's Guide to Endings. He's also known for his role as Turk Mallory in the Ocean's movies. Also, Caan appeared in Gone in 60 Seconds, Meet Dave, Novocaine, and Varsity Blues. Additionally, Caan wrote, directed, and starred in Dallas 362 and The Dog Problem. He also wrote and acted in Mercy. Outside of this series, Caan was most recently seen in Untogether. The actor's next project is unknown.

Daniel Dae Kim (Detective Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly, HPD)

Playing the part of Detective Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly, a former HPD cop who gets recruited to the Five-0, Daniel Dae Kim played a main character on this series for seven seasons. The actor also directed an episode. Most notably, Kim appeared in ABC's Lost and The WB's Angel. His other TV credits include ER, 24, Star Trek: Enterprise, and Beverly Hills, 90210. Additionally, Kim plays recurring roles in NBC's New Amsterdam, Amazon Prime's Flack, and CBS's The Good Doctor, where he's an executive producer.

Outside of television, Daniel Dae Kim starred in Hellboy (2019). Also, the actor appeared in Always Be My Maybe, Crash (2004), Hulk, Cradle 2 the Grave, For the Love of the Game, The Jackal, Blast Blast (which he also produced), The Cave, and The Divergent Series: Insurgent and Allegiant. Most recently, Kim was seen in Netflix's Stowaway and heard in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. Next, he'll star in National Geographic's The Hot Zone: Anthrax, and he'll be seen in FX's The Premise and heard in AMC's Pantheon.

Grace Park (Officer Kono Kalakaua)

As Officer Kono Kalakaua, an expert sniper in the Hawaii Five-0 Task Force, Grace Park played the female lead in this long-running detective series for seven seasons. She also played this part in an episode of MacGyver. Most notably, Park is known for her role as Lt. Sharon Valerii in Battlestar Galactica. The actress can also be seen in Edgemont, The Cleaner, The Border, The Outer Limits, Dark Angel, Stargate SG-1, The Dead Zone, CSI, and LA Law: The Movie. Her other TV credits include Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, Jake 2.0, Human Cargo, The Immortal, and Secret Agent Man. Furthermore, as a voice actress, Park lent her voice to American Dad!

Additionally, in film, Grace Park appeared in Romeo Must Die, West 32nd, Adventures in Public School, Run Rabbit Run, and Freaks, as well as two short films, 2003's Fluffy and 2012's The First Days. Currently, she stars in ABC's family drama, A Million Little Things.

Masi Oka (Dr. Max Bergman)

In the role of Dr. Max Bergman, the Chief Medical Examiner for both the Honolulu Police Department and the Hawaii Five-0 Task Force, Masi Oka was a prominent character throughout the majority of the show's time on television. Most notably, Oka played Hiro Nakamura in NBC's Heroes and Heroes Reborn. His other TV credits include Mozart in the Jungle, Scrubs, The Jamie Kennedy Experiment, Gilmore Girls, Dharm & Greg, Yes Dear, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Reno 911!, Reba, Still Standing, and Without a Trace.

Outside of TV, Masi Oka played Bruce in Get Smart and starred in the direct-to-DVD film, Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd: Out of Control. His other film credits include The Meg, Jobs, Friends with Benefits, Fired Up, The Promotion, Balls of Fury, House of the Dead 2, Legally Blond 2: Red, White & Blonde, Along Came Polly, Searching For Sonny, Austin Powers in Goldmember, and Death Note, which he also produced. Also, Oka is heard in The Proud Family Movie and Spies in Disguise. Next, the actor will star in Bullet Train.

Michelle Borth (Lieutenant Catherine Rollins, USNR)

Playing the part of Lieutenant Catherine Rollins, Steve McGarrett's on-and-off love interest, Michelle Borth was a recurring presence throughout Hawaii Five-0's 10 season run. Away from this show, Borth played main roles in ABC's The Forgotten and Combat Hospital and HBO's Tell Me You Love Me. Her other TV credits include Law & Order: SVU, Supernatural, The Cleaner, and Dark Blue. Additionally, Borth starred in Lifetime's Devious Nanny. In film, Borth can be seen in Shazam!, A Good Old Fashioned Orgy, Easy Rider 2: The Ride Home, Timer, Trespassers, and Teenage Cocktail. She also appeared in John Mayer's "Bigger Than My Body" music video and Burger King's "Lunch Break" advertising campaign. Away from acting, Borth is an executive producer on 2010's Everything Will Happen Before You Die and the co-founder of Roll Up Your Sleeves.

Most recently, Michelle Borth starred in the TV movie, No Good Deed, which is also known as No Good Deed Goes Unpunished. Her next project hasn't been announced.

Taylor Wily (Kamekona Tupuola)

As Kamekona Tupuola, Hawaii Five-0's loyal, confidential informant and the local entrepreneur behind Wailoa Shave Ice, Taylor Wily played an affable and dependable character throughout this reboot's entire run. Previously a sumo wrestler and mixed martial artist, Wily made his acting debut in a 1982 episode of Magnum P.I. He can also be seen in Marker, One West Waikiki, North Shore, MacGyver, and, to bring things full circle, the Magnum P.I. reboot, where he reprised his role as Kamekona Tupuola. Away from television, Wily is best known for playing Kemo in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He can also be seen in Radical and a pair of short films, 2014's Where I Come From and the upcoming Gut Instinct, respectively. Next, Wily is attached to Here Comes the Sun.

Dennis Chun (Sgt. Duke Lukela)

In the role of Sgt. Duke Lukela, a good friend of the Hawaii Five-0 Task Force, Dennis Chun could be seen throughout the show's extensive TV tenure. The son of the original Hawaii Five-O's Kam Fong Chun, the TV actor is among the few stars to appear in both iterations of this procedural detective series. His other TV credits include The Brady Bunch, Jake and the Fatman, Raven, and the original Magnum P.I. Additionally, Chun's film credits include Inferno in Paradise and Goodbye Paradise. Outside of acting, he produced and directed 2012's short film, Family. Most recently, Chun reprised his role as Sgt. Duke Lukela in Magnum P.I. Next, he'll be seen in the short film, Same T'ing.

Chi McBride (Captain Lou Grover)

Playing the part of Captain Lou Grover, the former captain of the Honolulu Police Department's SWAT team, Chi McBride was a main cast member on CBS's Hawaii Five-0 following his Season 4 introduction. In addition to starring in the long-running show, McBride also wrote a few episodes. Most notably, McBride is known for playing Principal Steven Harper in Fox's Boston Public, Emerson Cod in ABC's Pushing Daisies, and Detective Laverne Winston in Fox's Human Target. His other television credits include House, The John Larroquette Show, Monk, Golden Boy, Suits, and The Practice.

Furthermore, as a voice actor, Chi McBride can be heard in Max Steel, Rocket Power, Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble, Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel, Lego Marvel Super Heroes: Maximum Overload, and Hulk and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Outside of TV, he's best known for The Terminal, Gone in 60 Seconds, Roll Bounce, Draft Day, Narc, The Kid, Waiting..., Undercover Brother, Let's Go to Prison, and I, Robot. Most recently, McBride guest-starred on NBC's This Is Us. Next, he'll star in CBS's Smallwood.

Jorge Garcia (Special Consultant Jerry Ortega)

As Special Consultant Jerry Ortega, a conspiracy theorist who regularly consults and assists the Hawaii Five-0 Task Force, Jorge Garcia was a main character on this CBS series following a recurring role in Season 4. Most notably and memorably, the actor played Hugo "Hurley" Reyes in ABC's Lost. His other notable TV credits include Becker, Alcatraz, Once Upon a Time, Californication, Tim and Eric's Bedtime Stories, How I Met Your Mother, Spin City, Columbo, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Additionally, in film, Garcia appeared in The Ridiculous Six, Deck the Halls, Cooties, The Wedding Ringer, Get a Job, The Healer, iSteve, Little Athens, and The Wrong Missy. He's also heard in Rock Dog.

Outside of acting, Jorge Garcia co-hosted the podcast, Kaiju Podcast. He also produced the 2014 documentary, Extinction Soup, and wrote 2012's short film, Shredded. Most recently, the actor starred in Netflix's Nobody Knows I'm Here. He also guest-starred in CBS's MacGyver. Next, Garcia will star in When We Were Pirates, which he will produce.

Meaghan Rath (Officer Tani Rey)

In the role of Officer Tani Rey, a young member of the Hawaii Five-0 Task Force, Meaghan Rath became a primary character in the final seasons of this CBS drama. Outside of this series, Rath starred in 15/Love, The Assistants, Being Human, Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life, and Rogue. She also had recurring roles on New Girl, Banshee, and Secrets and Lies. Her other TV credits include Kingdom, Schitt's Creek, Motive, and Flashpoint. Additionally, Rath reprised her role as Tani Rey in Magnum P.I.

Away from television, Meaghan Rath co-wrote, produced, and starred in Three Night Stand. She can also be seen in The Clinic, Another Kind of Wedding, Prom Wars: Love is a Battlefield, and Lost and Delirious. Most recently, Rath guest-starred in The CW's Supergirl. Next, she'll star in and executive produce CTV's Children Ruin Everything.

Ian Anthony Dale (Adam Noshimuri)

Playing the part of Adam Noshimuri, the head of the Special Division of Organized Crime, Ian Anthony Dale was a long-standing recurring character on Hawaii Five-0 before he became a main player in the final seasons. He also directed an episode. Outside of this series, Dale starred in Surface, The Event, Day Break, Murder in the First, and Salvation. He can also be seen in Charmed, Criminal Minds, JAG, Angel, Las Vegas, CSI: Miami, Cold Case, Burn Notice, American Horror Story: Coven, and Hart of Dixie.

Additionally, Ian Anthony Dale starred in the web series, Mortal Kombat: Legacy, where the actor reprised his role as Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion from Mortal Kombat: Rebirth. Furthermore, his other film credits include Mr. 3000, The Bucket List, The Hangover, Tekken, XOXO, and Wakefield. Most recently, Dale was seen in CBS's short-lived All Rise.

Hawaii Five-0 is available to stream on Paramount+.

You may know him as the lovesick husband on Lost or the level-headed detective from Hawaii Five-0 but, in real-life, actor Daniel Dae Kim is also an advocate for justice. Following the Atlanta shootings this past week, Kim appealed to Congress about the rise of anti-Asian violence in America.

At a Congressional House Judiciary subcommittee hearing, Daniel Dae Kim virtually addressed the representatives and asked for the passage of the No Hate Bill and the Covid-19 Hate Crimes Act. Per Deadline, Kim said:

The situation that Daniel Dae Kim refers to in his address is the growing number of occurrences of violence and hate against Asian Americans. There have been numerous reports of attacks against Asian American citizens across the country as of late, many of which involve the elderly. Many believe the attacks directly correlate with the rise in racist rhetoric aimed at Asians in regard to the coronavirus pandemic. The latest tragic event in this growing patten was an incident in Atlanta, Georgia, which saw the murder of eight people, six of whom were Asian women, by a white man.

The situation received even more attention after the Cherokee County sheriff's spokesperson gave a statement to the press, saying the alleged killer was having “a really bad day” and that the murders were not racially motivated. In response to the officer’s statement, Daniel Dae Kim said this to the subcommittee:

The Hawaii Five-0 actor also participated in a roundtable interview for Asian entertainers recently that included the likes of Olivia Munn, George Takei and Hari Kondabolu, to name a few, addressing the ongoing plight of Asian Americans. Takei noted that racism against Asians has a long history that dates to Japanese internment camps during World War II and beyond. The panel also discussed the need for further and deeper Asian representation in media, as well as the need for solidarity between the various minority groups. Daniel Dae Kim said at the panel:

It is disheartening to think that in many cases, necessary change and conversation happen only after shocking tragedies, as with the recent shootings in Atlanta. But perhaps we can all take a page out of the book of veteran actor Daniel Dae Kim, and others like him, by being proactive for causes that matter.

Daniel Dae Kim has been a mainstay on television for a long, long time. He’s had major roles in Hawaii Five-0, Lost, 24 and so many more--to the point where you probably couldn't name them all. However, what all of those gigs have in common is that they have been prominent roles in ensemble dramas where Kim has never been the main person on the posters or the first person on the call sheet. Now however, that’s changing, as Daniel Dae Kim has landed his first starring role on TV.

It only took the actor 31 years -- as he wryly noted in a celebration post -- but Daniel Dae Kim is set to headline the new installment of The Hot Zone, a National Geographic series that looks into diseases in the world in an anthology format. It’s also the first time Kim will be the official lead in a television series, as he himself noted on Twitter.

Daniel Dae Kim is set to star in The Hot Zone: Anthrax for Nat Geo. Scandal’s Tony Goldwyn will also star in the series. In an announcement, Nat Geo says the new season of the show will be set just after the events of 9/11 but will still be “timely,” given it will follow the country facing a National threat. The series will be a fictionalized version of the true events that did happen in 2001 leading to the deaths of five people.

Principal photography on Season 2 of The Hot Zone is expected to start this winter, though there’s no mention of when we will actually see the series on the network. Season 1 aired in 2019. Returning from the first season will be executive producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson.

The first season of The Hot Zone was set in 1989 and followed the story of the threat of an Ebola disease that was being studied in primates. Julianna Margulies, Noah Emmerich and Topher Grace starred in the first installment. It did well enough that Nat Geo ordered a second season and the rest is history.

As for Daniel Dae Kim, the actor was memorably a star on Hawaii Five-0, though he and fellow co-star Grace Park left the series before it ended on CBS. There was a dispute over pay between the two actors and the network, with reports mentioning Kim and Park wanted pay parity with two other starts on the show, Scott Caan and Alex O'Loughlin. CBS said the network offered raises, but declined to reach those requests and the two ultimately left the show. So Daniel Dae Kim’s comment about being a lead ties back in some ways to not being seen as a lead on that ensemble show.

Meanwhile, Daniel Dae Kim knows firsthand there’s bigger stuff to contend with in the world right now. The actor was one of the first to admit he’d struggled with Covid-19 early on in the pandemic and even shared his experiences with the medicine he received when he was sick. It's been a long year and not simply due to the pandemic, but now it seems there's at least good news for Kim's career. We wish the actor the best as he jumps into The Hot Zone: Anthrax. May his first leading role in 31 years on television lead to many more.

After 15 seasons as a beloved star on CBS' NCIS, Pauley Perrette made her exit as Abby Sciuto back in 2018. The career shift appeared to come out of the blue at the time, though Perrette has since made troubling claims of behind-the-scenes abuse that influenced her decision to bow out of TV's most-watched drama. In the wake of CBS firing Hawaii Five-0 reboot creator and now-former MacGyver showrunner Peter Lenkov over various behind-the-scenes complaints, Perrette fiercely recalled her NCIS problems and pointed out how nothing has changed on the show.

Not long after it was reported that MacGyver star Lucas Till felt suicidal over the way Peter Lenkov treated both him and others on the set, Pauley Perrette took to Twitter with an emotionally driven set of messages that recalled similar allegations that she and others leveled against certain CBS employees. Here's how she put it when sharing Vanity Fair extensive look into the complaints made against Lenkov.

With her use of "that other guy," Pauley Perrette is very likely speaking of her former NCIS co-star Mark Harmon, whose Leroy Gibbs has been the core lead for the drama's entire run. Perrette has made several accusations of abuse about Harmon in the past, though not always directly by name, and said she would never return to NCIS because of him. She does use "MH" in a later tweet, but Perrette first brought up a conversation she reportedly had with The Talk creator and The Conners star Sara Gilbert. In her words:

To date, Pauley Perrette hasn't publicly divulged very many details about her assault claims and other complaints, for various reasons. The above message is about as direct as it gets, calling him and others guilty of using racist, gender-biased and homophobic language, and again implying that was the reason why she quit the show. Perrette then points out that neither Harmon nor anyone else that she made HR complaints about were ever removed from NCIS.

Though Pauley Perrette clearly has issues with Mark Harmon and others involved with NCIS, those issues didn't extend to the entirety of the CBS network. After taking some time away from the small screen, Perrette followed up on NCIS by returning to CBS with the sitcom Broke. Though the show was cancelled, the actress still celebrated its existence, having said it was a more natural fit for her than NCIS was.

Mark Harmon reportedly sought to get CBS to defend him against Pauley Perrette's claims, with rumors of a potential lawsuit also floating around. It doesn't appear that anything major has happened on that front since, though it's possible that more will come from this situation in the future.

At this point, CBS is still planning on bringing the next season of NCIS to fans this fall, though with productions still on lockdown, it's unclear if that will still happen or not. Daniel Dae Kim may have most recently been in the news for his bout with the virus currently spreading around the world, but he’s also just had a sick run on TV recently, hopping from Hawaii Five-0 to The Good Doctor and now New Amsterdam. In fact it's been a solid run of TV shows for the actor, particularly in the network sphere, and if you know anything about Daniel Dae Kim, his iconic roles don’t stop there.

In fact, Daniel Dae Kim has solidly done work on some major TV programs since his breakthrough in Lost back in 2004, though it’s worth pointing out he had big roles in Crusade and Angel and even 24 before becoming a household name. Let’s take a look at some of his biggest roles below.

Hawaii Five-0’s Chin Ho Kelly

On CBS’ recently ended popular series, Daniel Dae Kim played Chin from 2010-2017. He ultimately left the series before the end of its run due to himself and co-star Grace Park not being happy with their salaries at the network. The network ultimately did not reach an agreement with the actors, but they were still fondly remembered by the fanbase until the end of their runs.

Lost’s Jin-Soo Kwon

Though Daniel Dae Kim was technically on Hawaii Five-0 for more episodes, Lost was really the series that brought the actor to the forefront and made him a household name on television. Jin is credited with appearing in 116 episodes of the hit series and the actor actually had to re-learn Korean for the role after having not spoken it since he lived at home with his parents.

New Amsterdam’s Dr. Shin

Daniel Dae Kim was actually expected to be introduced on New Amsterdam at the end of the most recent TV season. However, NBC executives ultimately pulled that episode from the schedule, as it was expected to follow a flu epidemic hitting the hospital. Obviously, the timing wasn’t great and it’s unclear whether that episode will see the light of day; however, Kim will be rejoining the show for the 2020-2021 TV season in what is expected to be a recurring role.

The Legend of Korra’s Hiroshi Sato

He’s a man of many talents and did voicework for the popular animated series The Legend of Korra as well. Unlike some of the other shows listed so far, Hiroshi Sato only appeared in seven episodes of the iconic show’s run. He popped up from 2012-2014, but as I said before, Daniel Dae Kim has been a part of a lot of big shows over the years, so voice work should be no surprise. Speaking of…

The Good Doctor’s Dr. Jackson Han

Like New Amsterdam, Daniel Dae Kim was involved in The Good Doctor in an acting capacity. But The Good Doctor has also allowed the actor to flex his muscles elsewhere. He also executive produces the ABC series starring Freddie Highmore, which has been on the air since 2017. Also acting in the series you also executive produce? Not too shabby.

ER’s Ken Sung And Other Guest-Starring Roles

Paging the doctor... again. No, but seriously, if you want to get into all of the guest stints Daniel Dae Kim has signed on for, he’s been in even more shows than you can count. This includes Star Trek: Enterprise, in which he had a three-episode stint, as well as one off stints on a wide variety of major shows like Charmed, Walker, Texas Ranger, CSI, Without A Trace, NYPD Blue, and Beverly Hills 90210. Another big guest stint? Daniel Dae Kim had a role on ER well into that show's run, appearing during several episodes in 2003 and 2004. Back in Season 10, the actor played a social worker at the hospital for several episodes.

24’s Tom Baker

Just before landing the role in Lost Daniel Dae Kim finally started gaining momentum on network TV. From 2001-2003 he popped up occasionally on Angel. Then, around the same time, he landed gigs with Star Trek: Enterprise and ER. Just before Lost, he nabbed a role in 2003-2004’s 24 season, playing Tom Baker, going on field assignments with Jack Bauer during his stint on the show (which encompassed Day 2 and Day 3 that season). Then Lost came calling and the rest was history

These are some of the big shows that have come to define Daniel Dae Kim’s lengthy and prolific career, but they aren’t his only roles. He also has done voice work in 20202 for She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and appeared in the British series Flack. Hopefully, on New Amsterdam he’ll end up being a good fit and will stick around for some time to come. There aren’t a lot of people who have constantly been able to push forward a TV career like Daniel Dae Kim has and we hope he keeps sneakily adding big hits to his resume for years to come.

The bad news: Hawaii Five-0 has ended. The worse news: the series is not available to stream on Netflix. The good news: there is plenty of content available on the streaming service that will appease fans of the long-running drama.

For 10 seasons, the hit CBS crime procedural, itself a remake of creator Leonard Freeman’s classic CBS crime procedural that ran from 1968-1980, gave viewers a taste of the darker side of paradise. Reserve Naval officer Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Laughlin), Detective Danny Williams (Scott Caan), and their task force dubbed “Five-0” investigated a series of crimes in the Hawaiian Islands ranging from organized crime as far as terrorism.

Now that the series is over, where can fans find more justice under the sun (not including CBS’s Hawaiian-based remake of the classic Hawaiian-based CBS crime show Magnum P.I.)? While I cannot promise a tropical climate for all of them, I have compiled numerous TV shows, and even a few movies, available to stream on Netflix that those already missing Hawaii Five-0 will have a ball with. Let’s “book ‘em.”

Criminal Minds

A federal law enforcement team that specializes in the psychological analysis of the most dangerous people in the United States tries to predict their next move in an effort to catch them in the act in this fan favorite that recently had its series finale after 15 seasons.

Why Hawaii Five-0 fans will love it: Inspired by the cases of FBI’s Behavior Analysis, but presented in a far less brutal fashion than Netflix’s Mindhunter, Criminal Minds is yet another long-running CBS procedural drama featuring an ever-evolving, often interchanging cast of likable people (initially led by Mandy Patinkin, but then by Joe Mantegna from the series’ third year until its end) who have dedicated their lives to studying some very unlikable folks.

The Blacklist

On her first day as an FBI profiler, Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) finds an unexpected ally in elusive master criminal Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader), who shocks the bureau by turning himself in with a proposal to offer his assistance in the hunt for the country’s most wanted criminals.

Why Hawaii Five-0 fans will love it: This Golden Globe-nominated hit crime drama, currently in its seventh season on NBC, is a deliciously mysterious and addictively exciting series about unlikely partnerships that happen to pay off nicely.

Person Of Interest

Outside the knowledge of the authorities, a wealthy tech wizard (Michael Emerson) teams up with a former CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) to form a preemptive task force that uses a highly sophisticated artificial intelligence software he designed capable of detecting impending crimes in the New York City before they happen.

Why Hawaii Five-0 fans will love it: This Emmy-nominated series, executive produced by J.J. Abrams and creator Jonathan Nolan (Christopher’s brother, and co-creator of Westworld), may not have ran for as long as most CBS procedurals tend to last, but its grounded, Minority Report-esque concept and dynamite cast make for five seasons of unique and clever entertainment.

Lethal Weapon

Veteran Los Angeles detective Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) must set aside his differences with loose cannon Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) when they are thrown together as partners and assigned to nab a drug smuggling.

Why Hawaii Five-0 fans will love it: This 1987 buddy cop classic directed by Richard Donner, and also one of many Shane Black-penned thrillers appropriate for the holiday season, is one of the top action films of its time, or any time, especially for the dynamics of its mismatched pair of heroes.

An ordinary, young New Yorker (Jake McDorman) comes into possession of a pill that unlocks the full extent of his brain, which at first makes him the prime suspect in a murder tied to the drug, before eventually earning him a consulting position with the FBI.

Why Hawaii Five-0 fans will love it: Bradley Cooper produces, and occasionally appears on, this continuation of his 2011 film of the same name that, despite lasting only one season on CBS, is remembered as an enjoyable combination of science fiction, comedy, and, of course, good old fashioned crime procedural drama.

Speaking of TV series inspired by popular movies, a vengeful former Green Beret named Bryan Mills (Clive Standen) is enlisted by the CIA to use his “particular set of skills” for a potentially “long career” of dangerous operations involving people whom he could prove to be “a nightmare” for.

Why Hawaii Five-0 fans will love it: This short-lived prequel to the blockbuster action movie franchise of the same name starring Liam Neeson was two seasons of high-octane thrills that took audiences on adventures all over the world.

NCIS

Former marine turned special agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) leads his team from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service in cracking cases, particularly involving Marine or Navy personnel and their family members, in Washington D.C.

Why Hawaii Five-0 fans will love it: Currently in its 17th season and having inspired two hit spin-offs along the way, this top-rated drama from veteran producer Donald P. Bellisario is one of the longest-running procedurals of all time, and most definitely the longest to air on CBS, kept afloat by its first-rate writing, Emmy-nominated action choreography, and dynamic cast of colorful characters.

The Good Cop

For straight-laced New York City detective Tony Caruso (singer turned actor Josh Groban), solving crimes is nothing compared to sharing a home with his father, Tony Caruso Sr. (Tony Danza), a troublesome former police officer recently released from prison.

Why Hawaii Five-0 fans will love it: This is yet another Netflix original series which the streaming service’s premature cancellation of had fans devastated, wishing they could see more of the irresistible wit and endearing characters that this crime dramedy from the creator of Monk had to offer in its sole season.

After enduring a double-cross against her by the government agents who hired her, a highly skilled black ops soldier turned freelance covert operative (MMA athlete and future The Mandalorian star Gina Carano) seeks to punish on her betrayers.

Why Hawaii Five-0 fans will love it: Director Steven Soderbergh convinced screenwriter Lem Dobbs into rewriting the central protagonist of Haywire as a woman so that Carano could lead the all-star cast (which includes Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, and Channing Tatum to name a few) of this action-packed espionage thriller that, like Steve McGarrett character arc in Hawaii Five-0 began, is a thrilling quest for revenge.

After becoming the prime suspect of a devastating terrorist bombing, FBI agent Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra) recalls the early days of her recruitment in hopes to figure out which her former fellow trainees may have framed her.

Why Hawaii Five-0 fans will love it: Like any good network television drama, Quantico is a decent balance of lighthearted, sometimes funny, and often sexy character-driven side stories wrapped up in dark, titillating mysteries that, in this case, lasts over the course of three seasons.

After being released from prison, ex-Boston cop Spenser (Mark Wahlberg) teams up with his aspiring MMA fighter roommate (Winston Duke), his longtime friend and landlord (Alan Arkin), and his feisty on-and-off girlfriend (Iliza Schlesinger) to investigate the murder of two of his former colleagues, one of which he was suspected of killing.

Why Hawaii Five-0 fans will love it: Inspired by author Robert B. Parker’s famous private investigator, director Peter Berg’s offbeat Netflix original feels a bit like the pilot of network TV procedural drama (despite frequent F-bombs) extended to 110 minutes, from the tense score, cinematography, and the creation of a ragtag group of justice seekers right before your eyes.

Malibu Rescue: The Series

A team of scruffy young lifeguards run into the occasional problems faced by the average teenager while carrying out their oath to protect the beachgoers of Malibu, even if it does not involve the same glamorous style, action-packed thrills, and slow motion running shots they had anticipated.

Why Hawaii Five-0 fans will love it: This comedy series that acts as a continuation of a 2019 Netflix original movie of the same name, may not have the same grit and dramatic narrative style of a crime procedural targeted at a more adult audience, but it has its fair share of high-stakes adventure in a sunny, ocean side environment and what more can a Hawaii Five-0 fan ask for?

Hawaii Five-0 recently wrapped its ten-season run with a series finale that was jam-packed with a lot of action, surprising twists, and a lot of heartfelt moments between each of the characters. Oh, and Chuck Norris also made an appearance, too! While showrunner Peter M. Lenkov had hoped the series would go on for a “few more seasons,” he made due with what he had and scrapped some major plans before reworking the Season 10 finale into a series finale. What’s more, Lenkov recently revealed the reunion he always wanted to make happen before the end of Hawaii Five-0.

Characters have come and gone on Hawaii Five-0, but the loss of Grace Park’s Kono Kalakaua always stung because she and Ian Anthony Dale’s Adam Noshimuri had a good thing going for a long time. However, Park parted ways with the show ahead of Season 8 over salary disputes, leaving her character’s relationship with Adam up in the air. It wasn’t until halfway through Season 9 that the show gave an update on their relationship status, with Adam revealing that he and Kono had broken up due to distance and having changed as people. Suffice it to say it was heartbreaking. Over on Twitter, a fan recently asked Peter M. Lenkov whether there were ever plans to have Adam get back with Kono. Check out his answer below:

A reunion between the beloved couple would have been lovely and would have provided Hawaii Five-0 fans some closure regarding their marriage, which ended offscreen. Adam took it pretty hard when he revealed that he and Kono were over, so it would’ve made sense to reunite the pair at some point. Perhaps there could’ve even been a storyline where Adam actively decided to leave the islands and head to Nevada to be with Kono. I’d imagine fans would’ve been thrilled by that prospect.

All that said, I personally doubt Grace Park would’ve ever returned to the show following her departure. Still, Peter M. Lenkov probably could’ve made it work so that Adam would’ve been the one to leave in the end. However many scenarios there might have been, we’ll unfortunately never get to see that reunion play out onscreen or off now that Hawaii Five-0 is over for good.

Season 10 saw Adam further explore his relationship with girlfriend Tamiko, whom he began dating in Season 9. But this being Hawaii Five-0 and all, Adam’s journey to get Tamiko back after being kidnapped got a bit “dark and twisted” along the way.

After a rather brief period to mourn its cancellation, Hawaii Five-0 took its last bow this past Friday. Hawaii Five-0 signed off with what was initially planned to be the long-running series’ season-ender. As Hawaii Five-0’s showrunner promised, the show ended with lots of action and heartfelt moments. However, it was initially supposed to have a different ending scene.

Fans are probably well aware of the significant plans that had to be scrapped in the reworked Season 10 finale/series finale. Hawaii Five-0 showrunner Peter M. Lenkov initially explained, for instance, that a rejuvenated McGarrett would have returned to the task force next season, among other developments. Now, Lenkov is revealing other changes made to the ending.

Years ago, Peter M. Lenkov had envisioned Hawaii Five-0 ending differently. And as it turns out, viewers already saw the original ending a few years ago in Season 7. That was when a CGI version of the original McGarrett, Jack Lord, chatted up the reboot’s McGarrett.

The scene would have been the one to send Hawaii Five-0 off into a picturesque sunset. Peter M. Lenkov ended up changing his mind when he believed the show would continue a while longer. It was a hope Lenkov still had before the series’ recent cancellation.

Between Peter M. Lenkov’s sense of Hawaii Five-0’s longevity and a desire to beat another show to the CGI punch, he decided to go ahead and go for it in Season 7. So how exactly were things going to go down? Lenkov told TVLine:

What do you think, Hawaii Five-0 fans? Would that have been a better ending? Or did you like the way Friday’s send-off worked out for McGarrett and company? Had Peter M. Lenkov’s original conclusion unfolded, it would have offered a touchstone between past and present.

For some Hawaii Five-0 fans, the fact that a new "de-facto" ending had to be crafted may come as somewhat of a disappointment. This may only add on to the unfortunate notion of why the show really came to a close.

Although viewers didn't get to see that fateful meeting, what they ended up seeing was McGarrett heading off to parts unknown with Catherine Rollins after he chose to step away from the task force. In addition, Steve appointed the newly introduced, Lincoln Cole, as the leader of the Five-0. Despite some bloody teasers beforehand, Hawaii Five-0 ended with some semblance of a happily ever after for those involved.

Before it came to a close, Hawaii Five-0 even welcomed Chuck Norris as a guest star, a development that was years in the making. But in regard to the finale itself, fans are now left to contemplate which one they think would have worked better.

With Hawaii Five-0 over, fans will need some new television options. Thankfully, Netflix will have a lot to offer in 2020, and that's not where the possibilities end. There are also this spring’s premieres to consider!

Warning! The following contains spoilers for the Hawaii Five-0 series finale. Read at your own risk!

CBS said goodbye to Hawaii Five-0 last week, and did its best to give the long-running series a proper send-off. Of course, all series finales are bittersweet, especially when the showrunner reveals that there were plans for another season had the network signed off on one. It turns out the series let go of some pretty major plans and, following the series finale, showrunner Peter M. Lenkov was willing to share the details.

Hawaii Five-0 managed to shore up its characters' stories rather well, despite two of them going through some massive changes in the hypothetical following season. Actor Lance Gross, who was introduced in the final batch of episodes as Lincoln Cole, was poised to take the lead in Season 11, while Steve McGarrett was taking some time away to go find himself.

Lenkov told TVLine that, in a perfect world, McGarrett would've eventually returned after a trip. The season would've started without him, and then picked back up with McGarrett fresh from his journey and perhaps somewhat changed. Of course, Alex O'Loughlin's contract was up at the end of Season 10, but Peter M. Lenkov believed CBS could've convinced him to stay on:

Once Lenkov learned that CBS intended to drop Hawaii Five-0 from the lineup, the original episode that became the series finale was altered in order to make for a more conclusive ending. That meant dropping some stories that would've picked up in Season 11, some of which fans may have liked to see.

One story teased a small "romance beat" between Tani and Junior. As previously shown, Junior had killed the boyfriend of an ex-girlfriend, and Tani would later find out that he's been supporting them in the time since, due to the guilt he's felt over the killing. Peter M. Lenkov cut all that so characters could have a more definitive end, though it's always possible Hawaii Five-0 could return in the future. Lenkov even said CBS told him it's possible a revival could come down the way, though one wouldn't assume that's coming anytime soon. For now, this is the end of Hawaii Five-0, and a pretty good run for a beloved CBS series.

The legendary Chuck Norris hasn't made many appearances in movies or on TV as of late, so fans were very surprised to hear that he had decided to visit the lush islands of our 50th state and grace CBS' Hawaii Five-0 with his presence right before the series finale. Norris' guest spot on the long-running drama might have been relatively short, but it still got people talking.

As usual, Twitter was a hotbed of activity when it comes to public reactions about pretty much everything, so, as you might imagine, fans took their hot takes on Chuck Norris showing up on Hawaii Five-0 right to the platform when his episode aired. It turns out that not everyone was up to date on the news about Sir Norris (OK, he's not actually a knight...but, I'm sure that's just an oversight at this point) being on the penultimate showing of Five-0, but no one was disappointed to see the man who just scares the shit out of toilets instead of flushing.

I don't know if Snoop Dogg actually watches Hawaii Five-0, but I bet he loves Chuck Norris just like all sane humans do, so I think he'd really approve of this tweet using his joyous fist pumps to celebrate the man who uses pepper spray to season his meat. Not dangerously so; I don't think this person would have accidentally fallen out of a hot air balloon in mid-flight or anything, because, you know, they were probably sitting at home to watch the show. But, I can totally see this fan gently slumping down in their preferred easy chair, only to wake up and realize that Chuck Norris time was completely over for the episode. Oh, well. While everyone who was watching Hawaii Five-0, obviously, loved seeing Chuck Norris on the show, some people felt that it was especially apropos considering the status of the show and guest star, who is a badass of such epic proportions that he was able to build the very hospital that he was born in.

Of course, one can't be blamed for mistaking the patented Norris badassedry seen in this episode of Five-0 for that of some of the man's classic characters. I mean, it's hard for the gentleman who can bake a cake in the freezer to tamp down that kind of magnetism.

Sure, Chuck Norris has many similarities with his characters, Cordell Walker (who I still say should show up as Jared Padalecki's grandfather on the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot) and the Missing In Action franchise's Colonel James Braddock, but let's not confuse the man with the cinematic legends he's helped to create. Hawaii Five-0’s showrunner, Peter M. Lenkov, is weighing in. It is important to remember that Lenkov had expressed his hope that the series would continue for multiple seasons. CBS executives may have felt it was the right time, but fans arguably feel differently. Hawaii Five-0 had been showing no signs of slowing down during Season 10. It has to be a lot to take in. Hawaii Five-0 vet Daniel Dae Kim, who left the show back in Season 7, has expressed his sadness over the show ending. Now, that ending is drawing ever closer. Originally planned to culminate in a two-hour series finale, Hawaii Five-0’s sendoff was broken into two parts airing over two weeks.

Between Danny being bloodied, MacGyver’s Lance Gross coming aboard, and Chuck Norris showing up, Hawaii Five-0 is going out with lots of excitement. If you were hoping that Hawaii Five-0 would go out with a memorable ending, it seems ready to do so.

It's never easy to say goodbye to a beloved TV show, especially when it's been on the air for an entire decade. Such is the case with Hawaii Five-0, which is vacating the island after ten seasons on CBS. Originally set for a two-hour series finale, Hawaii Five-0 split things up due to scheduling changes, with the Chuck Norris-infused first half airing this past Friday. And guess what? The crime drama pulled in the biggest audience of the night, and hit its highest viewership in over two years!

That's right, Hawaii Five-0 is going out with pride – no, not NCIS: New Orleans' Dwayne Pride – with fans turning up in droves to catch Chuck Norris making his short-lived debut as the retired Sergeant Major Phillips. The episode, titled "A 'ohe ia e loa'a aku, he ulua kapapa no ka moana (He cannot be caught for he is an ulua fish of the deep ocean)," was watched by 8.21 million people on Friday night, according to ShowbuzzDaily, which is the largest audience Hawaii Five-0 has earned since Season 8's fifteenth episode, which aired on February 2, 2018. (8.56 million were watching that installment.)

In fact, the series penultimate episode is only the third Hawaii Five-0 ep since that point to hit the 8-million-viewer mark for a live broadcast. It even managed to top the crossover episode with Magnum P.I. that served as the midseason premiere in January of this year. So just in case anyone out there was engaging in thought experiments about whether Chuck Norris or Thomas Magnum would win in a showdown, Norris would take the crown hands down.

Hawaii Five-0 also impressed when it came to the key 18-49 age demographic, which isn't always the case with longtime CBS series. The pre-finale episode scored a solid 0.9 demo rating, which tied for highest of the night alongside ABC's Shark Tank. Both of those series also saw the numbers rise to a 1.4 rating when accounting for the slightly older 25-54 demo.

As far as how that demo rating stacks up to the recent past, it's the highest since Hawaii Five-0's midseason premiere in January, so it's not quite as big of a hallmark. That said, no other episodes this season hit the 0.9 rating mark beyond those two , and it hadn't happened before that since the episode that aired on March 9, 2019.

In the episode, the Five-0 take on a case that involves tracking down a former Marine who went AWOL (played by MacGyver's Lance Gross), which leads them to his former commanding officer Lee Phillips, played with bearded glory by Chuck Norris. No spoilers here, but Gross will be back in the proper series finale, while Norris presumably won't. That said, fans can look forward to William Sadler returning as John McGarrett and James Marsters reprising the role of Victor Hesse, as well as Mark Alan Dacascos' return as Wo Fat.

Could Hawaii Five-0's bloodied-up series finale reach even more people during the broadcast than Chuck Norris' episode? Perhaps, if Norris himself tunes in, since he counts as his own audience demographic. The fact that the coronavirus pandemic continues forcing people to stay inside likely only means good things for Hawaii Five-0's ratings.

It was big news when action icon Chuck Norris turned 80 a few short weeks ago. The actor hasn’t been doing as much acting these days, but he did recently appear in a big episode of Hawaii Five-0 that hit the schedule just before the long-running series will wrap on CBS. Now, Hawaii Five-0 executive producer Peter Lenkov has explained how he got the former Walker, Texas Ranger lead to guest star on the veteran show.

As it turns out, Peter Lenkov wanted Chuck Norris to pop up in the Hawaii Five-0 universe for a long time. It makes sense, as Lenkov actually works with Norris’ son Eric Norris, so he’s likely been reminded he’s far fewer than six degrees of separation away from the action icon at any time. Per Lenkov,

Look, I’m sure any action series in the vein of Hawaii Five-0 would love to have Chuck Norris make an appearance, but in the case of the CBS drama that added connection likely helped. As Peter Lenkov noted to TV Insider, he begged and begged to sign on Norris and it ultimately happened – in the nick of time too.

Hawaii Five-0 was recently cancelled by CBS. Chuck Norris actually appeared in the part of the two-part finale episode of Season 10, which is doubly serving as a series finale. As part of wrapping up the show, Norris’ character was on the scene to help out Lincoln Cole, who was also key to the episode.

The appearance also comes as Jared Padalecki will be hopping from the CW’s Supernatural to a brand new Walker, Texas Ranger reboot, giving fans hope that perhaps Chuck Norris could eventually make a special appearance on that new and upcoming series as well.

Of course, only time will tell. Most of the entertainment industry has currently been shuttered due to coronavirus. However, although a lot of TV shows are going to have shortened seasons this spring due to coronavirus, the silver lining is there is typically a summer break of sorts between one season and the next.

With a little luck and some fairy dust, once all of this passes the TV industry can hopefully wrap up certain shows with specials or bump plenty of already-written finales to next fall. The end is nigh for Hawaii Five-0 on CBS, but the good news is that it was not one of the shows with production halted due to the coronavirus. While Hawaii Five-0's two-part series finale is already completed and scheduled to start on March 27, fans shouldn't count on nothing but nostalgia in McGarrett and Danny's final on-screen adventure together. Images from the series finale have hit the web, and they reveal Danny quite literally a bloody mess and McGarrett looking pretty upset about it. Oh, that McDanno bond!

But first, how do they get to the point of Danny potentially bleeding to death in front of McGarrett's eyes? The official episode descriptions courtesy of CBS have some intriguing teases to tide fans over until the finale. In the first half of the two-parter (which will include none other than Chuck Norris), Danny will be attacked by somebody willing to kill to steal the posthumous letter McGarrett receives from his mom that contains a cypher.

In the second half, Danny is abducted and badly wounded by the person after the cypher. McGarrett will seemingly solve the case his dad left him all those years ago, but will Danny be alive to help him? Take a look at some images that will likely leave fans concerned about Danny in the Hawaii Five-0 series finale:

McGarrett will evidently be the one to find Danny after he was abducted and wounded. Between the look on McGarrett's face, Danny's bloody shirt, and the pool of blood already on the floor, it's probably safe to say that Danny is in serious danger of death.

In true McDanno spirit, the duo evidently won't just wait up in that room for paramedics to arrive and take Danny to the hospital, despite all the blood and Danny not seeming all that mobile. Check them out:

All things considered, Danny doesn't look all that bad in this picture, compared to when he was lying in a pool of his own blood on the floor. McGarrett seemingly put some pressure on the wound and is supporting Danny, but Danny is upright, conscious, and hasn't lost his gun. That said, he doesn't look especially alert, which may be part of why McGarrett looks so desperate.

Fans will have to wait for the finale to find out how Danny gets to the hospital, but McGarrett seemingly won't leave his side until he has to:

Keep holding that pressure, McGarrett! I've seen enough TV over the years to guess that this scene ends with Danny being rushed through double doors to surgery while McGarrett waits outside for news, still covered in Danny's blood. That said, Hawaii Five-0 could surprise me. Either way, Hawaii Five-0 isn't ending without delivering some classic McDanno drama, hopefully followed by a touching reunion fit for a finale.

It would definitely be a bummer if Hawaii Five-0 ended after ten years with one half of the McDanno partnership dead after the other half found him bleeding on the floor. Pretty much everyone around the world has been taking measures to try and stop the coronavirus from spreading. This has included working from home, not going to theaters or other places where large crowds gather and washing our hands as much as possible. People are also on the lookout for signs that they may be ill, so that they can get tested for the virus if need be. Unfortunately, we've seen some celebrities come forward and reveal that they've been infected, and we can now add Hawaii Five-0 vet Daniel Dae Kim to that list.

Daniel Dae Kim took to his Instagram recently from his home in Hawaii to reveal his diagnosis, as well as talk about his symptoms and what he's going through right now. Take a look:

Man, I feel like I need to personally thank Daniel Dae Kim for going into so much detail about how his symptoms presented themselves and how he was diagnosed and has been taking care of himself since getting sick. He wasn’t kidding when he noted in his caption that he wanted to share his “journey” with us in the hopes that we’d find it “informative or helpful,” was he?

As he said in his very thorough video, Daniel Dae Kim had been working on his new role as the head trauma surgeon on NBC’s hit medical drama New Amsterdam, Dr. Cassian Shin. New Amsterdam eventually stopped production to try to keep its employees safe, as almost every show has now done, but as Kim was landing in Hawaii he began to feel a bit of a tickle at the back of his throat. Luckily, he was very aware of what that could mean, so when he got home he immediately sequestered himself in one room of his house so as to not infect his family.

We all know that Daniel Dae Kim is not alone in being someone in the entertainment industry who's been diagnosed with the coronavirus. We've seen celebrities like Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Idris Elba and Olga Kurylenko all come forward and talk about having the virus. It took a while for production shutdowns to become a widespread occurrence, and actors do a lot of flying and working around teams of people all the time, so it's no surprise that they've been hit by the illness.

I'm sure Daniel Dae Kim's fans are glad to hear that he seems to be getting better and has been getting the rest and treatment he needs, along with knowing that his family has tested negative. It's never good to be sick at a normal time, but being diagnosed with a virus that's caused a pandemic has to be rough on anyone's mental state. Yet, Kim looks to be pretty positive and even took time out of his message to thank everyone from medical professionals to people working at grocery stores for helping to keep things moving while so many of us hunker down.

Daniel Dae Kim was also very apologetic to everyone he worked with on the set of New Amsterdam, noting how sorry he is that he put them all at risk, even though he had no idea he was sick at the time. He also managed to end on a light and positive note by reminding us all of how important it is to keep doing the things we know stop the spread of the virus...and then telling the toilet paper hoarders to stop that mess with "seriously, how dirty are you down there?"

Hopefully, Daniel Dae Kim, and everyone else who's been diagnosed with the coronavirus, will be healthy soon, we will have stemmed the tide of infections and can get back to regular life before much longer. The finale was set to arrive via a two-hour series finale that was scheduled to air on Friday, April 3. Well, CBS has tweaked things in a way that fans might like.

What is this change? Instead of concluding with that two-hour finale, CBS will be splitting it over two weeks due to March Madness getting cancelled amid the coronavirus outbreak. The first half Hawaii Five-0’s series finale will now air on March 27 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS, per TVLine. Does this take the sting out of Hawaii Five-0 ending? Not necessarily.

Hawaii Five-0 will still say goodbye on Friday, April 3. The last episode will air at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. The news means that instead of the Eye Network packing the finale into a single night, fans will have two weeks to savor what is left. It is a move that CBS did not employ with at least one recent goodbye.

By announcing this, Hawaii Five-0 will not end the way Criminal Minds did last month. That long-running procedural called it with a two-hour finale that aired during a single night. Fans will now have a week to digest the first half of Hawaii Five-0’s series finale, which should be a lot to take in.

A couple of seasons ago, longtime Hawaii Five-0 actors Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park left the CBS drama and it wasn’t on the best of terms. Kim and the network would later recount that salary disputes with the network kept him from returning to the series. However, now that CBS has cancelled the drama, Daniel Dae Kim has spoken out about its legacy and lasting impact.

Shortly after Hawaii Five-0 was cancelled this week, Daniel Dae Kim took to Twitter to share his feelings about the series ending rather abruptly, mentioning he’s “sad” to hear the long-time procedural will be calling it quits.

Though Daniel Dae Kim reportedly left the show after wanting to be paid closer to what lead Scott Caan made, the actor has always been nice about and “grateful” for the experience, even after leaving. He previously thanked CBS after his exit and didn’t seem to have any lingering anger, so it’s not a huge shock he has kind words for the show here.

To be frank, the cancellation of Hawaii Five-0 came a bit out of left field. The series has been on the air for 10 seasons and was a mainstay on the network. It was still doing decently in its Friday night timeslot and was a good pairing with Blue Bloods.

While last minute cancellations still happen to shows that are early in their runs a fair amount, in more recent TV seasons, networks have given fans a little more closure by announcing cancellations well in advance. This, I suppose, sort of happened with Hawaii Five-0, as we do know the series will be ending a few weeks before its April finale.

However, it’s not as if CBS ultimately opted to give the series and its creative team a little more time to end on a high note, like it has done with shows like The Big Bang Theory ending (although ultimately that was Jim Parson's choice and this seems to be the network's). So, unfortunately, whatever the writers and team already had in the pipeline is how the show is going to say sayanara on the network.

There have been plenty of TV cancellations that have already occurred this TV season and there will be likely to be more down the line. But if you are a fan of Hawaii Five-0 in particular, at least you can rest easy knowing the people who are involved with and love the show are just as sad about it ending as you probably are.

Though Hawaii Five-0 showrunner Peter M. Lenkov had hoped that the long-running series would go on for a “few more seasons,” CBS announced that the drama would be ending, with the Season 10 finale set to be its final bow. However, given that Hawaii Five-0 is ending without much advance notice, fans are heartbroken about McDanno — the term used to describe the relationship between Steve McGarrett and Danny Williams — and worried about what the series ending will bring for them.

While Hawaii Five-0’s ending is sad and there are various storylines that still need to be wrapped up, fans should at least expect to see plenty of familiar faces returning for the series finale, including James Marsters’ Victor Hesse and William Sadler’s John McGarrett. Still, it’s rare for a series finale to please everyone and, for those who have long shipped Alex O’Loughlin’s McGarrett and Scott Caan’s Danny together, there’s a lot of concern that the series finale won’t offer a satisfying end for the long-time friends. One fan expressed that worry, believing that the series finale would not be the one many hoped for McDanno.

Meanwhile, another fan felt that something was amiss because Season 10 was seemingly pulling out all the stops in terms of McDanno moments, though they had no idea that it would all culminate in the series ending for good.

McDanno means a lot to fans of Hawaii Five-0 and when the news broke that the series would wrap after Season 10, many took to Twitter to express their sadness. One fan even wrote a heartfelt message about what McDanno means to them, tagging the series’ showrunner and writers in hopes that they would see it.

Yet another fan shared their heartbreak over the series ending, suggesting that it wasn’t just McGarrett who made the show. Rather, it was his relationship with Danny that made Hawaii Five-0 that much more memorable and worth the watch.

However, the idea that McDanno may not get a happily ever after in the series finale agitated some fans. Peter M. Lenkov had quite the scathing response to a fan’s tweet that threatened harm upon him should the friends not get a good ending.

The showrunner went on to conclude that, while he genuinely believes the Hawaii Five-0 series finale will be satisfying for everyone, he’s sure a contingent of fans may find something worth venting about.

Whatever the end of Hawaii Five-0 brings for McGarrett, Danny, and the rest of the characters, ten seasons is quite a good run for any show. Hawaii Five-0 is coming to an end on CBS, and the end is unfortunately in sight. The show has run for ten successful seasons and fans had reason to hope that more seasons were in store, but the series finale is officially on the way, and fans likely will feel that it's coming way too soon. As in, within weeks.

Hawaii Five-0 will end for good with its tenth season finale on Friday, April 3 on CBS. While that is still more than a month away from the date of cancellation, the cancellation is coming a lot sooner than anticipated. In fact, showrunner Peter Lenkov (who is also behind MacGyver and Magnum P.I. on CBS) recently said to TVLine that he was "hoping that this show goes a few more seasons."

There is some good news coming out of the end of Hawaii Five-0. Even though the series finale is coming in a matter of weeks rather than multiple months, it won't be just an average-length installment. The grand finale will be a two-hour TV event, running from 8-10 p.m. ET on Friday, April 3. The end is nigh, but at least it will get to end on a high note. Assuming there are some happily-ever-afters, anyway!

Additionally, the two-hour finale will bring back some recurring cast members. James Marsters will be back as Victor Hesse, William Sadler will be back as John McGarrett, and Mark Dacascos will be back as Wo Fat. It will also presumably include the MacGyver alum who seemed destined for a major role on Hawaii Five-0 before news of the ending.

CBS didn't confirm any other cast members who are returning for the series finale, if any. Any fans holding out hope to see Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park back on Five-0 at some point may want to prepare for disappointment on that front. Donnie Wahlberg may also want to prepare for disappointment, given his hopes for a Blue Bloods/Hawaii Five-0 crossover

The Eye Network also didn't give an official explanation for why the series is ending with the April 3 finale, although CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl shared that "It’s never easy to say goodbye to a hit franchise that carried on the legacy of the original with such distinction while establishing its own signature style."

As for the why, Deadline states that original series stars Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan's contracts are up at the end of Season 10. O'Loughlin reportedly felt he could not continue on Five-0 due to lingering effects from a back injury years ago on the series, and CBS allegedly considered carrying on with the show with a new partner for Caan before the decision that it was time to wrap.

Considering CBS ended another long-running show by giving it a final, albeit shortened, season to wrap everything up, the end of Hawaii Five-0 coming at the end of the current season without much advance notice has to come as a shock to longtime viewers. Admittedly, Criminal Minds and Hawaii Five-0 don't have a whole lot in common beyond crime and hitting the 10-year mark on CBS.

For now, you can catch new episodes of the final run of Hawaii Five-0 on CBS Fridays at 9 p.m. ET following new episodes of MacGyver at 8 p.m. ET.

CBS' pre-weekend lineup has been as big of a success as any Friday night primetime blocks out there, with MacGyver, Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods dependably bringing in audiences en masse. One thing that usually helps get network shows a ratings boost is a crossover episode (which are more common than ever these days), and fans can soon expect to see Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver cross paths in a way that also allows for a fun Lost reunion.

That's right, CBS' MacGyver will be welcoming former Hawaii Five-0 star Jorge Garcia to an upcoming episode. That news should give comfort to any fans out there who were worried that Garcia's Jerry Ortega wasn't doing too well in the aftermath of his exit. Jerry is back, baby! Check out the former co-stars in the tweet below.

The news about Jerry's return to Friday nights, though not on his own show, was first revealed by Jorge Garcia's former Lost co-star Henry Ian Cusick, who stars as MacGyver's newest main character, Russ Taylor.

Given that Russ Taylor isn't nearly as sweet of a guy as Lost's Desmond Hume, fans shouldn't get too excited about seeing Henry Ian Cusick getting chummy on screen with Jorge Garcia's Jerry. But perhaps the episode will give fans a more heated exchange between the two.

Just in case anyone was afraid that Jorge Garcia would be returning to CBS as a new character, the official MacGyver Twitter page confirmed it'll indeed be Jerry coming back.

With all of Jerry's interest in conspiracy theories, it's easy to believe he might have some kind of an angle on Cusick's character. Given that it's still very early in MacGyver's troublesome fourth season – it only premiered at the start of February – viewers still have a lot to learn about ol' Russ Taylor. So if Jerry can shine a little light on Taylor's past, he might find something that sparks emotions in others.

Of course, that's assuming Taylor hasn't covered any and all of his more controversial tracks with precision. Given that he's more or less filling the void that originated when George Eads left the show as Jack Dalton, Taylor is clearly a consummate professional, and it's possible that he doesn't have any freaky skeletons in his closet. But if he does, expect for them to be revealed as Season 4 continues.

After joining the cast in a guest capacity in Season 4, Jorge Garcia was a major part of Hawaii Five-0 throughout Seasons 5-10, choosing to leave at the end of the tenth season. His final episode drew out a lot of worry in fans, since the show set it up to look like he might be killed off. Alas, all is well, and Jerry will be back at a currently undisclosed time.

Oddly enough, this past week also brought the news that MacGyver vet Lance Gross will be heading to Hawaii Five-0, but not as his former character Billy Colton. He'll be a character named Lincoln Cole that needs the Five-0's security to keep him safe.

Ten seasons in and Hawaii Five-0 is still thriving. While the CBS drama currently has a great cast, it’s always good to add new people to the series every once in a while to shake things up a bit. In a fun turn of events, MacGyver alum Lance Gross will be headed to Hawaii Five-0 in a major new role and his storyline will require the Five-0’s full cooperation.

Lance Gross, who played bounty hunter Billy Colton in six episodes of CBS’ MacGyver, has been cast as Lincoln Cole in Season 10 of Hawaii Five-0. Lincoln is a former Marine Gunnery Sergeant with the Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team. When his attempts to do good land him in a dangerous situation, Alex O’Loughlin’s Steve McGarrett and the rest of the Five-0 team work together to ensure his safety and protection.

The former Star and Sleepy Hollow actor will appear in the final two episodes of Hawaii Five-0’s Season 10, which had an Easter egg-filled crossover with Magnum P.I. in January. Lance Gross will be credited as a guest star in the episodes, but Deadline is reporting that there’s an option for Gross to become a series regular should Hawaii Five-0 be renewed for Season 11.

However, while Hawaii Five-0 hasn’t officially been renewed for another season, showrunner Peter M. Lenkov says that he hopes the show “goes a few more seasons” because there are still plenty of character stories to tell. Considering that the opportunity to become a series regular is on the table, it sure seems like Lance Gross’ character will be hitting it off fairly quickly with the Five-0 gang.

Season 10 is still a couple of months away from ending, so there’s still hope that CBS will renew Hawaii Five-0 for another season. Whatever happens, though, the Five-0 crew will have their hands full protecting Lincoln and there’s no telling what these Season 10 episodes will bring. As is usually the case with the drama, I expect the final episodes to be full of action and suspense.

Earlier this season, Hawaii Five-0, which got very dark and twisted for Adam, lost Jorge Garcia’s Special Consultant Jerry Ortega, who departed the series at the end of the Season 10 premiere. Although Katrina Law’s Quinn Liu filled that void when she joined the series this past season, there’s always room for other characters like Lincoln to join in on all the fun.

Be Warned: Spoilers for the series finale of Arrow are talked about beyond this point!

Arrow had a lot of stars return for its series finale. The plentiful turnout included a bevy of actors both past and present from the Arrow-verse. There was one star the show just about didn't get to have back for the momentous occasion. Arrow almost ended without a final appearance from Katrina Law, who played Ra’s al Ghul’s daughter, Nyssa al Ghul.

Cameos are never easy. They require a lot of planning, and as Arrow-verse executive producer Marc Guggenheim told TVLine, it is a complex undertaking. The actor has to be willing to return, and schedules have to allow for it to happen. Guggenheim credited Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz with making all of the phone calls to necessitate the appearances made in the series finale.

When it came to getting Katrina Law back for Arrow’s series finale, it almost did not happen. Last year, Law joined the cast of CBS’ long-running reboot, Hawaii Five-0, for its tenth season in the role of Quinn Liu. Marc Guggenheim revealed the intense logistics that went into making Law’s appearance materialize, telling TVLine:

Arrow managed to bring Katrina Law back before. However, getting Law to reprise her role as Nyssa for Arrow’s series finale undoubtedly brought another level of urgency to things. It is tough to imagine the stress that must have comprised getting it to happen! As you would probably expect, Marc Guggenheim has nothing but praise for the star.

Due to Katrina Law’s busy schedule, she was apparently not able to stick around long for the filming of Arrow’s series finale. The actress is now an integral part of Hawaii Five-0, which meant a literally quick cameo. Responding to the musing of Law having to get right back on a plane after filming Oliver’s funeral scene, Marc Guggenheim said:

There you have it! Arrow fans have Hawaii Five-0’s crew for helping make Katrina Law’s appearance in the series finale happen. Thus, giving Nyssa the chance to pay her respects at Oliver’s funeral. He died early in the “Crisis” crossover. Her reappearance also meant closing a chapter on Law’s run on Arrow.

It is lovely that it worked out. I think it would have been strange for Nyssa to not have attended. Arrow’s showrunner did say that the series finale would offer a lot of “wish fulfillment.” You have to imagine that Katrina Law appearing was definitely near the top of countless fans’ wish lists.

Emily Bett Rickards and many other fan-favorites joined Katrina Law in returning for Arrow’s sendoff. Here is hoping that Arrow got to utilize Law as much as they initially envisioned. For understandable reasons, that did not happen with everyone. For instance, Arrow’s series finale initially involved seeing a lot more of Rickard's Felicity. As you can tell from Law’s situation, scheduling made that very tricky.

The Arrow-verse bore witness to a ton of cameos during its latest crossover. Getting the cast desired to return for the show that started everything had to be a gargantuan task. The team got creative in a way for the series finale’s opening scene, which meant the actors did not have to film new footage. Thankfully, Katrina Law was able to!

You can currently stream past seasons of Arrow on Netflix (including episodes with Katrina Law’s Nyssa al Ghul) along with new content arriving in 2020. The Arrow-verse will live on as it continues airing new episodes throughout this winter and spring.

For a TV series to make it to ten seasons is an impressive accomplishment. While there are always shows being cancelled in their early days — Sunnyside was cancelled only a few episodes into its low-rated debut season — and pilots not getting picked up to series, CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 is thriving. While the sunny crime drama hasn’t officially been picked up for Season 11, Hawaii Five-0 showrunner Peter M. Lenkov isn’t done telling the characters’ stories and wants to go “a few more seasons” beyond Season 10.

However, like with any series that goes on for a decade, Hawaii Five-0 has hinted at potential storylines without immediate follow-ups. One such instance occurred in the Season 8 episode “Dog Days.” When Junior Reigns shows up on Steve McGarrett's porch, he's asked if he's out of the Navy, to which Junior’s replied: “It’s a long story.” Asked whether the series would ever regale viewers with why Junior left the Navy behind to join the Hawaii Five-0 task force, here’s what Peter M. Lenkov told TVLine:

Okay, so there’s a plan, but it might not happen for seasons to come. Got it. Can fans really wait that long to find out? I’m now hoping the show goes on for a few more seasons as well because it sounds like Junior’s story could be an intriguing one.

While it’s wonderful that Hawaii Five-0’s showrunner seems to have more storylines he wants to explore in future seasons, CBS hasn’t renewed the show for Season 11 yet. Though it’s not unheard of for a network to hand out multiple season renewals in advance – like NBC did when it renewed New Amsterdam for three more seasons – getting picked up for several more seasons is obviously not a guarantee. That said, I think it’s probably best to introduce Junior’s “long story” sooner rather than later, just in case.

There’s optimism to be had, though. Even if it sounds like Junior’s pre-task force days won’t be explored just yet, Hawaii Five-0 has lasted ten seasons already, so there’s a chance that the series could go on for longer. And hey, Law & Order: SVU has had a spectacular 21-season run, so nothing’s completely impossible. And CBS has a knack for keeping shows on the air for ages.

Hawaii Five-0’s crossover with Magnum P.I. saw Junior Reigns being called back to active duty and the series will hopefully provide an update on his relationship status with Tani soon. The time is almost here! Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I.’s highly-anticipated crossover is about to hit the airwaves, and you will want to watch it closely. There are even more reasons to be excited beyond the characters from the two shows hanging out. Why? Because the crossover is filled with Easter eggs.

In the crossover happening Friday, January 3, the two reboots will collide for an event that will provide ample inside winks to fans. Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I.’s showrunner, Peter M. Lenkov, teased the abundance of Easter eggs for both shows during the crossover. On paying close attention to what unfolds, Lenkov told TV Insider:

Prepare for Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I.’s characters to learn a lot about each other! While viewers of both series are familiar with their backstories, it should all be new intel for the shows’ characters. So, sit back and watch the fun flow of information!

Whether you only watch Hawaii Five-0 or Magnum P.I., you will still want to stick around for both installments! Hawaii Five-0’s devoted fan base has had ten seasons to develop a keen understanding of it, while Magnum P.I. is currently in its second season.

Can you imagine the amount of Easter eggs that could have been worked in if MacGyver was also part of the crossover? Or if Tom Selleck or Donnie Wahlberg’s Blue Bloods character shared the screen? That would be quite a frenzied playground for CBS characters. There is certainly a lot for Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I. to draw from without needing that extra infusion.

Speaking of references, Hawaii Five-0 already created a bit of a pickle for itself having previously referenced Tom Selleck’s Magnum P.I. as existing in its universe. The problem? Hawaii Five-0 referenced it as a show. Yep. The two series’ showrunner jokingly responded to the situation, which has taken on new meaning in light of the upcoming crossover.

The crossover should be a party! It all starts on Hawaii Five-0 as McGarrett and company end up pursuing a suspect in the theft of a classified list that contains the identity of undercover CIA agents. Cue Magnum P.I.’s Magnum and Juliet Higgins, who are after the same guy for a totally different reason. He is a husband suspected of cheating.

In a surprising development, McGarrett and Magnum will not instantly hit it off. Peter M. Lenkov teases that “conflict” will take root between the hopefully soon-to-be buddies when the crossover begins. Do not worry, though. Team Hawaii Five-0 and Team Magnum P.I. will still work together to resolve this whole situation. Shows that cross over together, stay together!

Excitement has been building for this crossover for more than a month. Originally announced back in November, it is about to make its way on-screen. Television has been going big on the crossover action between series lately. It will be interesting to see what Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I.’s yields, as well as if the imminently returning MacGyver could someday take part in a sequel crossover of sorts.

See McGarrett and Magnum go toe-to-toe when the crossover event occurs as one of this winter’s premieres. Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I.’s Easter egg-filled crossover happens on Friday, January 3 at 8 p.m. on CBS. New episodes of Hawaii Five-0 air Fridays at 8 p.m. ET and are directly followed by Magnum P.I. at 9 p.m. ET.

Ian Anthony Dale’s Adam Noshimuri is in for a rude awakening in Hawaii Five-0’s upcoming episode, “O 'Oe, a 'Owau, Nalo Ia Mea.” After an intimate moment with girlfriend Tamiko is interrupted and she’s kidnapped right in from of the character, Dale says things will get very “dark and twisted” for Adam.

Adam and Tamiko have taken the next step in their relationship, but that hopeful spark won’t be a happy one for very long after she’s taken by Yakuza rivals. Desperate to get her back, Adam will briefly abandon the Five-0, which has already suffered a recent loss, in search of Tamiko. Ian Anthony Dale previews that Adam's mission will get very intense. Here’s what he said:

It sounds like Adam will go to any length to get Tamiko back, which possibly even includes breaking the laws he’s sworn to uphold as a lawman. According to Ian Anthony Dale, that puts him “between a rock and a hard place” in terms of his relationship with the Five-0. Since he won’t be involving his fellow authorities, it leaves him in a sticky situation.

However, this dark journey will circle back to Masuda’s idea that Adam has always belonged with the Yakuza, even though he’s been trying to avoid becoming that person his whole life. Speaking with TVLine, Ian Anthony Dale says Adam will struggle with the decision of simply giving into his “fate.”

While Adam and Tamiko are suffering, though, Hawaii Five-0 is not all intensity and Man on Fire journeys. After experiencing a tunnel collapse in Season 10, it’s good news ahead for Tani and Junior, who will “take the next steps toward finally (finally!) seeing what is right in front of them.”

Perhaps it’ll happen just in time for Hawaii Five-0’s big two-part crossover with CBS’ Magnum P.I. Ahead of the crossover, however, showrunner Peter M. Lenkov jokingly called to shelve a Season 3 episode of Hawaii Five-0 that referenced Tom Sellick’s original run of the show instead of the reboot (which technically didn't exist yet). For Adam’s sake, I hope that he isn’t too far down the rabbit hole by the time the crossover rolls around.

Hawaii Five-0’s Season 10 continues Friday, December 6 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. The series’ fall finale will air next Friday, December 13 and will return midseason January 3, 2020 — which is when the Magnum P.I. crossover will happen. Much like other CBS shows before it, Magnum P.I. and Hawaii Five-0 will soon have a two-part crossover. There are many excited to see Thomas Magnum rub shoulders with Steve McGarrett, though there are a few longtime fans with an issue with the meeting of the two parties. Showrunner Peter M. Lenkov is aware of the issue, and recently joked about shelving a past episode that makes this fateful meeting a bit bizarre.

For those out of the loop, Hawaii Five-0 had a scene in the Season 3 episode "Hoi Pili" in which it referenced the characters and theme song of Magnum P.I.. Unfortunately, McGarrett was making a direct reference to the classic 80s series that starred Tom Sellick, and not the cast of his modern reboot that currently airs on CBS. Lenkov talked about why the moment happened, as well as what Hawaii Five-0's plan will be in addressing the moment in the crossover.

So for anyone hoping there would be some confirmation Magnum P.I. exists as both a show and real life situation in the Hawaii Five-0 world, that's not going to happen. It turns out the answer is to just pretend that never happened, though Peter M. Lenkov is only joking to TVLine about actually removing the episode from the rotation.

So, why did Lenkov add that little nod to Magnum P.I. if he knew the show may one day crossover with Hawaii Five-0? The simple answer is, he didn't, and only included the joke because he had given up hope that his idea for a Magnum P.I. reboot would ever get off the ground.

The moment may have made things slightly problematic for the upcoming two-part crossover between Magnum P.I. and Hawaii Five-0, though after so many episodes it's hard to imagine too many fans would immediately point out the discrepancy. The bottom line is, if the showrunner isn't worried about it, then it's safe to say the crossover will be plenty fun and the moment will live on as a funny plot hole that will simply have to stand so that an action-packed crossover may happen.

Sounds Like Hawaii Five-0 Finally Has Good News For Tani And Junior Fans

Will they or won't they? It sounds like Hawaii Five-0 may finally push Tani and Junior to answer that question in Season 10 on CBS. Both Tani Rey (Meaghan Rath) and Junior Reigns (Beulah Koale) joined the Five-0 team in Season 8. Fans have been loving their chemistry, and they got so close to kissing during that wedding dance in Season 9.

Well, now we have a promising update. Or at least I think it's promising?

A fan asked TVLine for an update on Tani and Junes. The site replied that they heard, from a Hawaii Five-0 source, that in the coming months "an unlikely person" will be helping Tani and Junior "possibly (possibly!) take the next steps toward finally (finally!) seeing what is right in front of them/us/the whole world."

Nice! Not sure who that "unlikely person" might be, but let's thank them in advance. The news should please Tani and Junior fans, who've been hoping for more scenes like these:

However, "in the coming months" suggests Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 may not play matchmaker before the winter break. There are only three episodes left before the CBS show takes a mini holiday hiatus.

The good news, though, is that Tani and Junior fans won't have to wait to see more of them together, if not together together.

Tonight's November 22 episode, called "Ka la'au kumu 'ole o Kahilikolo" -- which is Hawaiian for "The Trunkless Tree of Kahilikolo" -- is the show's 2019 Thanksgiving episode. While Junior and Tani track down the thief who robbed his parents' home, Five-0 investigates the murder of a beloved philanthropist and the theft of his ultra-valuable koa tree. Also, Danny moves in with McGarrett, which should be interesting.

The next new episode airs Friday, December 6. When Adam's girlfriend Tamiko (Brittany Ishibashi) is kidnapped right in front of him, he shuts out Five-0 and breaks all the rules in order to get her back. Also, Five-0 investigates three seemingly unconnected homicides.

After that, we only have the December 13 fall finale before the show goes on break until January 3, 2020 -- which is when Hawaii Five-0 will have its big crossover with Magnum P.I.

Hawaii Five-0 continues Fridays at 8 p.m. on CBS, followed by Magnum P.I. and Tom Selleck's Blue Bloods. The 2019 TV season is winding down with midseason finales, but keep up with everything heading to TV in early 2020 with our handy schedule.

It’s official! Hawaii Five-0 is crossing over with Magnum P.I. for a supersized TV event. Move over Arrow-verse, because CBS will have its own crossover to contend with. The rebooted dramas will go back-to-back for a special block of primetime that is bound to thrill fans who have been waiting for this kind of event.

Let's get into the details! When is it happening? Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I. will cross over on Friday, January 3, 2020. What is the story? Well, Peter M. Lenkov, who serves as showrunner on both series, teased it in a significant way, by telling TVLine:

What is this “big-stakes story”? Here is how the Hawaii Five-0/Magnum P.I. crossover begins. The cast of Hawaii Five-0 will be tracking down a person of interest at a hotel. That is when they discover some special people already running surveillance on the hotel room. None other than Magnum and Higgins!

What does this mean for the two Magnum P.I. characters? A lot of action, because it puts them right in the heart of the crossover storyline! Describing how that happens for Magnum and Higgins, Peter Lenkov said:

Interesting! Hawaii Five-0 airs first on Friday nights, so it will welcome Magnum, Higgins, TC, and Rick. The second half of the crossover, a.k.a. the Magnum P.I. installment, will feature Hawaii Five-0’s Junior, Tani, and Quinn.

News of the crossover comes not too long after Blue Bloods’ Donnie Wahlberg expressed interest in doing a crossover. Wahlberg wants one between Blue Bloods, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Hawaii Five-0. With this crossover underway, could more follow? Time will tell if CBS starts spreading the love!

One person you can rule out of any future crossovers involving the new Magnum is original Magnum P.I. star Tom Selleck. The actor originated the title role back in 1980. Now into his tenth season of Blue Bloods, Selleck has explained why he will never appear on the Magnum P.I. reboot. One crossover hope is gone, but more are possible!

Earlier this year, there was talk about a three-way crossover between Hawaii Five-0, Magnum P.I., and MacGyver. Viewers are currently awaiting MacGyver’s fourth season after it got moved to the midseason. Even though MacGyver will be sitting this one out, fans of the reboot still have a lot to look forward to.

It has been a season of change for Hawaii Five-0 as it has already bid farewell to a fan-favorite character and welcomed a new one. Hawaii Five-0 comes into the crossover as the veteran. It is on its tenth season, while Magnum P.I. is on its second. It should be interesting for fans to see how the long-running series and the newer one play off each other.

The crossover event airs on Friday, January 3, 2020 on CBS. New episodes of Hawaii Five-0 air Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on the Eye Network. It is directly followed by Magnum P.I. at 9 p.m. ET. Both shows are among this fall’s new content.

Christine Lahti returns to Hawaii Five-0 as Doris McGarrett, Steve McGarrett's mother, in Season 10's powerful new tearjerker episode written and directed by McGarrett actor Alex O'Loughlin.

The Friday, November 8 episode is called "Ka 'i'o" -- Hawaiian for "DNA" -- with the CIA informing McGarrett that his mother has gone rogue on her undercover mission and may have killed her partner. So Steve goes solo to bring her home and prove her innocence.

Executive producer Peter M. Lenkov had teased that the "brilliant" episode would be one to watch:

The great Christine Lahti has been in nine previous episodes of Hawaii Five-0 from 2012 to 2016, playing McGarrett's mom, aka CIA agent "Shelburne."

This is star Alex O'Loughlin's third time directing a Hawaii Five-0 episode -- after Season 8's "E Ho'Oko Kuleana"/"To Do One's Duty" in 2018, and Season 9's "E'ao lu'au a kualima"/"Offer Young Taro Leaves To" earlier in 2019. He has a story by credit for Season 8, Episode 24, but this is his first time as the sole credited writer, which is pretty exciting.

Back in 2018, Alex O'Loughlin talked to EW about his directorial debut, saying the most difficult part was that his extra duties as director prevented him from spending as much time as he wanted prepping as an actor. Usually, he said, he studied every beat of a scene and put hours of homework into it before stepping on set.

That was then, though, and I have no doubt he learned a lot in the next two directing trips -- especially since he's so heavily involved in the new one. But even after just getting his feet wet with that directorial debut, he knew he had the directing bug:

After Alex O'Loughlin's "Ka 'i'o," Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 continues with "Ne'e aku, ne'e mai ke one o Punahoa"/"That way and this way shifts the sand of Punahoa" on Friday, November 15 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg must wait every year hoping this will be the season CBS says yes to a crossover with one of the other network shows. He has a funny, albeit practical, reason for wanting a crossover with Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J of NCIS: Los Angeles, or really anyone from Hawaii Five-0: It gets cold in New York. That's pretty much it! As much as the NCIS: LA or Hawaii Five-0 stars may wish Wahlberg was just dying to act across them, it's all about Blue Bloods filming in NYC in the winter.

Speaking for myself, though, I'd pay good money for a scene between Blue Bloods' Tom Selleck as Frank Reagan and NCIS: LA's Linda Hunt as Hetty Lange.

Heck, he could add NCIS: New Orleans to the mix at this point. Donnie Wahlberg made his comments in a Blue Bloods fan chat that was held a few years ago, before NCIS: New Orleans even premiered. Interestingly enough, there have been multiple NCIS: Los Angeles and Hawaii Five-0 crossovers -- along with a crossover for Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver, and a nice little NCIS crossover for NCIS: New Orleans just last year. I know Peter M. Lenkov has been talking about a three-way crossover for CBS reboots Hawaii Five-0, Magnum P.I., and MacGyver.

But what about Blue Bloods?

Sure, it's a show about NYC cops and lawyers, but I'm sure they could come up with a storyline that would allow for some national travel. As Donnie Wahlberg noted, it takes eight working days to shoot a Blue Bloods episode, so that's close to two weeks' worth of work. Just a nice "vacation" in warmer weather.

Blue Bloods Season 10 is currently airing Friday nights after Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I. (MacGyver will be returning soon with Season 4.) It would make sense for CBS to set up a crossover between Blue Bloods and one of those shows, and then maybe it could crossover to the next Sunday night on NCIS: LA.

I get that production companies and filming schedules and other factors have to be involved, but I do think it's time Blue Bloods got more crossover action. The show just celebrated its 200th episode with the Season 10 premiere in September 2019. That's a lot of family dinners. Donnie Wahlberg's fan chat even included jokes about farting through those family dinner scenes, which may be the REAL reason why Tom Selleck thinks they can be miserable to film.

How Blue Bloods Season 10 Will Put Frank And Jamie At Odds Over Treatment Of Cops

February is coming up soon, so maybe this will be the year CBS greenlights a Blue Bloods crossover so Donnie Wahlberg can get some winter sunshine. In the meantime, watch Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods on Fridays on CBS, with NCIS: LA airing Sunday nights on the network.

Hawaii Five-0 made some big changes when it returned for its tenth season on CBS. Katrina Law of Arrow and Training Day fame joined the cast as a new series regular, and longtime Five-0 cast member Jorge Garcia departed. Garcia played Jerry Ortega starting all the way back in the fourth season, and he was a beloved member of the Five-0 family by the time the Season 9 finale rolled around and left his fate in question. Fortunately, Jerry didn't die, but he did depart, and Katrina Law's Quinn Liu's stepped in.

Now, Jerry and Quinn aren't even close to being the same character, and their entries into the Five-0 team couldn't have been much more different, but she still felt like she was filling the void left by Jerry. Katrina Law spoke to CinemaBlend about joining such a long-running show in its tenth season, and when I asked what it was like to step into Jorge Garcia's shoes, she said this:

While the departure of such a key character as Jerry and such a beloved actor as Jorge Garcia could have meant a difficult transition for Katrina Law and the existing Hawaii Five-0 team in the eyes of the fans, she was evidently welcomed "with open arms" even as she stepped in for Garcia.

The show is already exploring some new directions with Quinn Liu in the mix and now officially part of the team, and viewers have clearly responded positively to those directions so far. Of course, Hawaii Five-0 also gave Jerry a pretty great sendoff, so surely nobody could complain that his character was mistreated as he made his exit.

When the Season 10 premiere revealed that Jerry was the one shot in the Season 9 finale cliffhanger, it fortunately didn't waste any time in reassuring viewers that Jerry survived the injury. That said, being shot made him think of all the things he hasn't done, and he made the decision to leave the team, work on a book, and presumably not get shot again. He pulled everybody in for a group hug at the end, including "new girl" Quinn Liu! It felt more like a changing of the guard than a replacement, and it made for an engaging way to start a season.

Although Quinn Liu quickly proved she was bold and badass enough to fit right in with Five-0, Katrina Law went on to explain that she was dealing with some serious nerves when the time came to begin her first day of filming for Hawaii Five-0. Here's how she put it:

Who can't relate to feeling nervous and needing pep talks on the first day of trying something new? Fortunately, Katrina Law clearly pulled it off, because it wasn't long before Quinn was chasing down bad guys, bantering with McGarrett, eating croissants, and even powering through a gunshot wound. When a character on Hawaii Five-0 complains that McGarrett is driving too slowly, you know she has what it takes to keep up with the team.

Next week's venture will see the return of a past Hawaii Five-0 character for what promises to be an exciting Halloween episode, so be sure to tune in! Only time will tell if Katrina Law gets her wish to work with Hawaii Five-0 alum Grace Park, but fans can always cross their fingers and hope.

Arrow veteran Katrina Law joined the cast of Hawaii Five-0 in Season 10 to continue to tradition of badass female characters helping take down the bad guys of the islands. Her character, Quinn Liu, debuted in the Season 10 premiere and quickly proved that she could keep up with the Five-0 unit, banter with McGarrett, and power through a gunshot wound with no problem. Recently, Law weighed in on the idea of teaming up with Grace Park, who played Kono Kalakaua for the first seven seasons of the series.

When one Hawaii Five-0 fan on Twitter suggested that it was too bad Katrina Law's Quinn Liu and Grace Park's Kono Kalakaua weren't on the show at the same time, Law shared her response:

Could Quinn and Kono share the screen at some point? It's certainly fun to think about at this point, and Hawaii Five-0 isn't showing any signs of slowing in its tenth season, even though the last few seasons have seen the departures of a surprising number of characters. Katrina Law is on board as a series regular, so she's definitely be around. Grace Park is the biggest variable in a potential return of Kono to Five-0 to meet up with Quinn.

Grace Park famously left Hawaii Five-0 in the hiatus between Season 7 and Season 8 due to a salary dispute with CBS, which also resulted in Daniel Dae Kim leaving the series ahead of Season 8. That could have resulted in some bad blood between the actress and Hawaii Five-0's network, but her stance seemingly softened a little bit after she departed. Although that's not to say she would return if she could, it's enough to hope.

That said, Grace Park is pretty busy with another show on another network. Following her departure from Hawaii Five-0, she landed a key role on ABC's A Million Little Things, and as Katherine on that show, she's gone through the emotional wringer. In fact, the show may have destroyed her relationship with her husband for good, but we can bet that she's not down for the count for as long as her son needs her. So, Park has plenty going on in her career without returning to play Kono.

Whether or not Katrina Law gets to work with Grace Park on Hawaii Five-0, we can be pretty confident that she'll have a lot to keep her busy now that Quinn has joined Five-0. The show took a few episodes to let Quinn and McGarrett get to know each other before McGarrett made the move to invite her to join the unit, and she happily accepted. Of course, she was also arrested on a sham charge immediately after receiving her badge, but McGarrett took care of that.

Hawaii Five-0 is bringing former star Masi Oka back to the show in the greatest way! Oka previously starred on the crime drama from Season 2 until the midpoint of Season 7. Now, he is headed back to guest star on a super special episode of Hawaii Five-0, and he is doing so in costume!

If you guessed that Masi Oka would return just in time for Hawaii Five-0’s Halloween episode, then you were right! Oka is bringing Max back, and he will once again go to the annual Halloween party as a famous Keanu Reeves character, per TVLine. Can you deduce which of Reeves’ beloved characters it will be?

Yes, Max will be going as cinema’s assassin extraordinaire, John Wick! Hawaii Five-0’s Halloween episode will air Friday, October 25, so fans will not have to wait too much longer to see Masi Oka don his John Wick costume! There is more good news, too!

Masi Oka’s Max will not be returning alone. He will make his visit along with his son. It is going to be a family affair! There is no word on if Max will have his son go in costume too, but I think it would be neat if he did!

While Max has gone as various Keanu Reeves characters in the past, John Wick is an excellent choice for his return. A new movie in the hit franchise debuted earlier this year, and more are destined to follow. Can you think of a better one of Reeves’ characters to go as this year? Me neither.

It will be nice for Hawaii Five-0 fans to have a familiar face return. After a lot of back and forth, mystery, and speculation, Season 10 did witness the exit of Jorge Garcia’s Jerry. Thankfully, his arc was left open, which means, like Masi Oka’s Max, Garcia’s Jerry could make a return visit.

Masi Oka has previously revealed why he left Hawaii Five-0 after five seasons on the crime drama. Oka’s decision, which he made in advance, helped the show craft a feel-good farewell for his character. Max’s farewell storyline saw him retire from his position as the medical examiner in Honolulu. He then took a job working with Doctors Without Borders and moved to Africa with his wife, Sabrina.

In the episode Max is returning to Hawaii Five-0 in, the Task Force will be busy. There will be an investigation into a deadly home invasion after a “monster” gets loose from the basement. Will the team need Max’s help to help solve this case? It would make sense if they did!

New episodes of Hawaii Five-0 air Fridays, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Masi Oka’s Max returns in the Halloween episode airing October 25! The crime procedural’s return is another one of this fall’s premieres.

Oh, Jerry.Hawaii Five-0 star Jorge Garcia confirmed he is leaving the CBS show, for now, but the door is open for fans to see Jerry Ortega sometime down the road. Maybe once he's finished his book?

The Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 premiere was bittersweet for fans of the CBS drama. We knew per the first episode synopsis that the team would "say goodbye to one of their own," and after the gunshot cliffhanger of the Season 9 finale, that led fans to fear for Jorge Garcia's Special Consultant Jerry Ortega. Fears were fueled by Jerry being missing from CBS's early intel and photos promoting Season 10.

Answers came last night with the Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 premiere, "Ua 'eha ka 'ili i ka maka o ka ihe," aka "The skin has been hurt by the point of the spear."

Jerry was shot and in recovery for most of the premiere. It gave him time to think. When he was shot, he said his first thought was of letting his Dungeons & Dragons team down. That made him think maybe he hadn't done enough living. (Hey, don't knock D&D, man!) At the end of the episode, the healed Jerry revealed that he didn't plan to rejoin the team. He planned to leave Five-0 to write a book. However, the door was open for him to pop in from time to time.

On that note actor Jorge Garcia shared a statement with TVLine on his exit:

Hawaii Five-0 showrunner Peter M. Lenkov also praised Jorge Garcia and said there will always be a place for him on the show, saying they'll miss him very much. So it sounds like it was the Lost alum's choice to take a step back from the show, but also leave one foot in the door.

Hawaii Five-0 has lost a lot of characters and their actors across 10 seasons. But, as Peter Lenkov has said in the past, if they don't kill a character off, there's a solid chance you'll see them again someday.

As Jorge Garcia exited, Arrow vet Katrina Law entered as Sergeant Quinn Liu. There were other changes on Friday night in general, as many fans wondered where MacGyver Season 4 was hiding on the CBS schedule. (Here's the answer.)
