Flashback to 2021, and you couldn't find a bigger hater of the Snyderverse than me. Hell, I even danced on its grave when we received word that it was finally over.

However, flash-forward (DC pun not intended) to 2026, and I've actually come around on the failed DCEU. Maybe it's because I wasn't in love with James Gunn's Superman, or perhaps it’s because I have no interest whatsoever in Supergirl (and apparently, I'm not alone), but I've been giving Zack Snyder's DC movies another chance recently, and oh, man. I think I owe Zack Snyder yet ANOTHER apology.

You see, I already apologized for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and after rewatching the four hour long Zack Snyder's Justice League, I have to apologize again, because this movie is amazing. Here's why.

I Originally Thought This Movie Was Way Too Long. But Now, It Feels Just Right When It Comes To Pacing

You want to know what's crazy? Not too long ago, I rewatched Joss Whedon's version of Justice League, which is only two hours long, and it's so bad that it actually feels LONGER than Snyder's version, which is literally double the runtime. I think this is because Whedon's Justice League feels aimless and dull, whereas Snyder's version has direction and vision. And look, no offense to Whedon, as he was given the impossible task of reshooting aspects of Snyder's movie into something feasible for the big screen, but his version just does not work.

However, after rewatching Zack Snyder's Justice League, I am in awe at how he was able to take all of these characters and still have it all make sense. For example, in his version, Batman and Wonder Woman's quest to assemble a team really feels cohesive and organic, whereas in Whedon’s version, it all feels like a hurried mess, which is strange because it also feels plodding.

We get more backstory for all of the characters in Snyder’s version, as well as a true villain in Darkseid, who I'll get into later. Snyder's version is also (surprise, surprise) way darker in tone than Whedon's version, which is also something I now appreciate over the more upbeat Superman from James Gunn.

Honestly, it's really weird that all of the things that I once hated about the Snyderverse – the overseriousness, the darker tone, etc – I now view as pluses. However, I think there's one reason in particular why I love this movie now.

Cyborg's Story Is The Heart Of This Movie

One character who I always thought never got his time to shine when it came to the Snyderverse was Cyborg. Played by Ray Fisher, you could tell that he had a bigger role in Whedon's Justice League, but there was just something…missing.

In Zack Snyder's Justice League, however, almost the entire plot hinges on Cyborg’s role in the story. The fact that his role was truncated so much in Whedon’s version just goes to show you why that film felt like such a mess, because Victor Stone's (Cyborg) role is absolutely vital in Snyder's cut.

Stone's father, Silas (Joe Morton), is kidnapped, and Cyborg joins the team. He was a former athlete and had to be reconstructed after a horrible car accident, so his journey as a broken man to one of the saviors of the world is thoughtful and surprisingly heartfelt.

Also, being that Cyborg has such a connection to this film's Macguffin in the Mother Boxes, he’s essentially the most important character in the entire film, and I really appreciate that when watching this a second time.

I Also Find All Of The Characters-Even The Flash-To Be Interesting In This Film

You know, when I first saw Zack Snyder's Justice League, I still very much loathed all of the scenes involving Ezra Miller's The Flash. Upon a second viewing, I find that I actually like him, as well as pretty much every other member of the Justice League this time around. It might be because I, like others, actually enjoyed the eventual Flash movie that came out in 2023 (I even wrote about how it annoyed me that it didn't do better at the box office).

The Flash is incredibly important in this film. When the world starts to be destroyed, The Flash has to reverse the flow of time using the Speed Force, which allows Superman (Henry Cavill) and Cyborg to get the job done.

And, what about Aquaman? I liked Jason Momoa's first Aquaman movie - to a certain extent - but I found him super annoying in Justice League. However, I guess adding more screen time for him makes him more interesting this time around. I also think that learning more about the other metahumans and the Atlanteans makes him feel more at home here.

Not only that, but this movie has freaking Martian Manhunter (Harry Lennix) in it. I mean, it's at the end, and it's pretty much just a cameo, but at least he's here. What's not to love?

I Also Love This Version Of Darkseid

I know I keep harping on Joss Whedon's Justice League, but a big reason why I feel that movie failed was that its main antagonist, Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds), was super lame. It's just that he didn't seem like a worthy opponent for the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, or The Flash.

In Zack Snyder's Justice League…well, he's still pretty lame, but much better since you don't feel like he's the REAL final boss. The main boss would be Ray Porter's Darkseid, who is a way more terrifying villain and an existential threat to humanity.

Darkseid is all about that Anti-Life Equation, and we learn that he's been a threat to Earth for millennia, what with the Old Gods waging war against him to prevent him from taking over the planet. All of this backstory really elevates the danger he presents, making him feel like a truly worthy adversary.

Unfortunately, since this was pretty much the end of the DCEU, we never got to see Darkseid get his own movie where he got to be the central villain, but I really appreciate what we got in this movie. He’s absolutely horrifying.

In The End, The Further We Get Away From The Snyderverse, The More I Find That I Miss It

When looking at the upcoming slate of DC films (and TV–let's not forget about TV), I think there's a lot to look forward to (Especially when it comes to Clayface, which I can't wait for!) Yet…I kind of now miss the Snyderverse.

I don't know what it is. It might be because I used to pledge allegiance to the MCU, and I think I viewed the DCEU as a pathetic alternative. After getting off the Marvel hype train quite a while ago, I've since been reevaluating the Snyderverse, and I think I had it all wrong.

Was it too dark and broody? Maybe, but upon reflection, it was actually a novel alternative to the overly cheery MCU. I now find that I get nothing out of movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier or Guardians of the Galaxy upon a rewatch, and I view them more as artifacts than anything else.

Movies like Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Batman v. Superman? They just seem to get better with age. So, if you happen to be reading this, Mr. Snyder. I’m sorry! Your fans were right all along, and I’m happy that the powers that be eventually RELEASED THE SNYDER CUT!

Millie Bobby Brown has had plenty of major co-stars over the course of her career, from Winona Ryder and Kyle Chandler to Chris Pratt and Robin Wright. Of course, Henry Cavill is also on that list, as he and Brown have starred alongside each other in all three Enola Holmes films. The two actors have apparently forged a tight bond on set and are apparently quite comfortable with each other. Well, Cavill seemingly felt enough comfort to make a reality TV-related confession that seemed to weird out Brown.

As of late, Brown has been promoting Enola Holmes 3 – one of the latest releases on Netflix’s 2026 schedule – and she’s been dropping some sweet BTS tidbits. What I wasn’t expecting, however, was the Cavill anecdote she recently shared with co-star Louis Partridge during a game of Lie vs. Lie for Entertainment Weekly. In a clip shared to Instagram, Brown recalled asking Cavill if he wanted to watch a popular reality show only for him to share an unexpected response:

Partridge, as part of the game, actually responded by saying he didn’t think Brown was lying about that story and, honestly, I might’ve felt differently. That’s not to say it’s weird that Cavill could appreciate a reality TV series. However, what is a bit odd is that such a revelation seemed to come amid Cavill and Brown’s work on the Enola Holmes franchise. Timing aside, Cavill is indeed entitled to his entertainment-related vices. Partridge also made a good point:

Henry Cavill does indeed seem to have some niche interests, including miniature-based war game Warhammer. That love is actually so strong that Cavill is producing a TV show for Prime Video that’s based on the game. It’s also a well known fact that the In the Grey star has a love for technology and, several years back, he built a computer and excitedly posted about it. It’s said that we as people contain multitudes, and I’d say that rings true when it comes to Cavill.

Over the years, Brown has spoken a bit about her on-set relationship with Cavill, who plays older brother Sherlock Holmes to her Enola. The Stranger Things star has spoken about how Cavill has established professional boundaries, which she respects. As for their work, it seems they have no issues there either. Brown has even praised Cavill for being able to slide into acting mode with ease even after joking around on set.

I appreciate the dynamic that Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill have forged and, from my vantage point, it really does mirror that of a true sibling relationship. And, as someone who’s gushed to his own sister (and friends) about his favorite TV shows and movies, I really get Brown’s story on a personal level. Now, I’m just wondering what TLC show has managed to capture Cavill’s attention, and I hope he reveals that at some point.

There are very few things in life that cannot be improved by adding a top hat. Apparently, that includes someone as superhero-fit as former Superman Henry Cavill. Sure, I love seeing him suited up as the Man of Steel as much as the next DC fan, but come on. The actor is as dapper as it gets, and a top hat only helps the equation.

In an Instagram post, Cavill shared a photo of himself looking extra suave in a starched collar, tails and, yes, the aforementioned top hat. The look was not tied to any upcoming DC movies, or any 2026 movie releases at all, and was instead inspired by his day at Royal Ascot, which doubled as a plug for Longines, the watch brand he serves as an ambassador for. His caption read:

Instagram user Dr. Agustín L. Santos, PhD, pretty much nailed the collective reaction, writing in the comments, “Before this picture I was 100% straight. Now I have doubts.” Well said, Doctor. And he was not the only fan spiraling a little over Cavill’s top hat outing.

As expected, the internet responded appropriately to the sight of the Man of Steel actor looking like he had wandered out of a Victorian romance novel with a gym membership and excellent bone structure. Honestly, that about covers the temperature of the room. Some fans saw the next James Bond. Others simply saw the Argylle actor in a top hat and briefly lost access to normal thought.

I love revisiting Cavill’s time as Superman about as much as Zack Snyder does with all his shares, and fans can watch all of his DC films with an HBO Max subscription. But David Corenswet is now the Kryptonian hero and is set to reprise the role in Supergirl, which hits theaters June 26, followed by Man of Tomorrow on July 9, 2027.

That said, after seeing The Man from U.N.C.L.E. star in a top hat and tails, I’m dying to see him take on another big-screen action flick. For now, I’ll settle for catching him in Guy Ritchie’s most recent film, In The Grey, which is playing in select theaters and available at home on Video on Demand.

The superhero genre is showing no signs of slowing down, and the DC side of things have been going through major changes thanks to co-CEO James Gunn's new shared universe. While fans are looking forward to upcoming DC movies like Man of Tomorrow, Zack Snyder has been posting throwbacks from the DCEU, including lots of photos of Henry Cavill's Superman. The filmmaker recently put up another one, but some fans aren't happy in the comments.

Moviegoers who watched the DC movies in order saw as the former DCEU ended after Aquaman 2, making room for the newly formed DCU. We've been treated to a handful of projects from the DCU's first phase Gods and Monsters, but that hasn't stopped Snyder from looking back at his time directing for the studio. Case in point:

Zack Snyder has tons of loyal fans who were able to convince Warner Bros. to release the Snyder Cut of Justice League years ago. I've been reporting on the director's DCEU throwbacks for a while now, and this one is the first I've seen with so many people criticizing him. This might be a sign that audiences are invested in the new shared universe, and David Corenswet's version of Kal-El. Although the comments asking the studio to #RestoreTheSnderVerse are also present.

It should be interesting to see if these naysayers get louder on Snyder's social media as he inevitably releases more Superman throwbacks. He's made his love for Henry Cavill very clear, but there's a new actor playing the Last Son of Kypton. And it looks like David Corenswet has his supporters as well.

Corenswet will reprise his role in Supergirl, which hits theaters on June 26th as part of the 2026 movie release list. Man of Tomorrow will then follow suit on July 9th 2027, with the actor once again takin center stage in his sequel.

When Enola Holmes 3 premieres on Netflix’s 2026 schedule, we’ll be faced with a big mystery and a big life event. In this latest film starring Millie Bobby Brown as the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes, her personal life and professional dreams will get all tangled. That became clear after watching the teaser, too, especially since my biggest question about this movie (seemingly) has nothing to do with the big mystery.

Why Is Enola Surprised By Tewkesbury’s Proposal?

Now, we knew going into Enola Holmes 3 that it would be darker and more grown-up than the two films you can currently stream with a Netflix subscription. However, the teaser makes that fact very clear, as it primarily focuses on the fact that Louis Partridge’s Tewkesbury has proposed to Enola.

It seems like she’s questioning this proposal too, as she says directly to the camera in the trailer:

Well, that’s fascinating, because the trailer starts with them living happily together. So, why would the titular character be unpleasantly shocked by her partner popping the question?

It’s also surprising because this reaction and their relationship are central in this teaser. Arguably, their romance is more central than the fact that Henry Cavill’s Sherlock has been kidnapped.

So, I’m left wondering why Enola was surprised by the proposal. I also can’t help but wonder how his impending wedding will impact the film’s central mystery.

I’m Sure This Proposal Will Have Something To Do With The Mystery

Overall, this trailer seems to highlight two different conflicts Enola has to deal with. One is her impending nuptials. The other is her brother’s disappearance.

Notably, the footage spends significantly more time covering Enola and Tewkesbury’s relationship than Sherlock’s kidnapping. So, that leads me to believe that this proposal that surprised our leading lady has something to do with the bad things that are happening.

It also seems that Enola will spend a lot of the movie wearing a wedding dress and getting into all the action on the day she’s supposed to get married. So, even if the proposal isn't directly linked to the mystery, the mystery will impact this ceremony, it seems.

Therefore, I have to assume that her love interest and the next step in their relationship will play a massive role in this movie’s primary mystery. The film’s synopsis alludes to that idea too, as it says that Mille Bobby Brown’s character will go far away from London, “where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before.”

Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long to see if my question and this mystery surrounding Sherlock collide. That’s because Enola Holmes 3, which is directed by Adolescence’s Philip Barantini, will premiere on the 2026 movie schedule on July 1.

Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson are certainly keeping themselves busy with multiple projects on the 2026 movie calendar, not to mention Ritchson’s continued success on Reacher. However, while fans wait on a release date for the Prime Video action series, it seems like they are finding new appreciation for a movie Ritchson and Cavill did together back in 2024. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is an under-rated gem, and it’s absolutely crushing on streaming right now.

Movie lovers with a Peacock subscription seem to have rediscovered The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, because according to the streaming service’s May 26 numbers, it holds the No. 1 movie spot, beating out titles like Another Man’s Wife (a romantic thriller starring Taye Diggs), Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair and the family-friendly Secret Life of Pets.

So why is The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare moving the needle now, two years after its release? The movie just landed on Peacock last week, so its subscribers may just now be getting a chance to see the film — or rewatch it, for that matter.

It doesn’t hurt that Alan Ritchson is always in high demand, and it’s been over a year now since Reacher Season 3 ended. One can only rewatch War Machine (streaming with a Netflix subscription) so many times, right?

However, I have to think that In the Grey's current run in theaters might also have something to do with it. Both the new release and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare were directed by Guy Ritchie, reuniting him not only with Henry Cavill but also Eiza González in one of her best roles.

In the Grey may have served as a reminder to audiences just how bizarrely fun a Nazi-killing movie can be. The movie received mixed reactions from critics at the time, but even with its tepid 68% Tomatometer score, audiences loved it, giving it a cumulative 91% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter. It seems even then that people knew The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare cast had set this movie up for long-term fandom, as reactions included:

We haven’t seen the last of Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson on our screens this year. Cavill will reprise the role of Sherlock Holmes for Enola Holmes 3, while Ritchson has Runner and The Man with the Bag slated for 2026 releases.

Zack Snyder took time out of his busy 2026 movie schedule to mark an anniversary that still means a lot to fans of his now-defunct DCEU. Not only that, but the director even made sure to give Henry Cavill a specific shoutout in the process. For anyone who followed the long, strange road to Zack Snyder’s Justice League (a.k.a. the Snyder Cut), the reason makes complete sense.

In a post shared to his Instagram account, Snyder commemorated the day in 2020 when it was announced that his version of Justice League would finally be completed. The black-and-white image shows the League together, with text honoring the film's restoration and the fans who helped bring it into existence. Via his caption, Snyder also thanked Cavill, who joined him for the original announcement, and ended with a dedication to Autumn, the filmmaker’s daughter, who died by suicide in 2017. The director specifically wrote:

That is about as Snyder Cut as a Snyder Cut anniversary post can get. It has the restored vision language, the direct fan acknowledgment, the Cavill mention and the deeply personal dedication that has always sat at the center of this particular chapter of DC history.

The Cavill shoutout is especially fitting because the actor was there for one of the movement’s biggest public moments. In May 2020, the Army of the Dead movie maker joined a virtual watch party for Man of Steel, and Cavill appeared with him when the director officially announced that Zack Snyder’s Justice League was coming to folks with an HBO Max subscription. It was a huge moment for fans who had spent years campaigning under the “Release the Snyder Cut” banner, and Cavill’s presence gave the announcement even more weight.

At the time, Cavill’s own Superman future was still a massive question mark. He debuted as Clark Kent in Man of Steel, returned in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and then appeared in the theatrical version of Justice League, a movie with troubled production and reshoots that have become infamous. Seeing Cavill alongside the DCEU architect for the restoration announcement felt like an intimate reunion between the filmmaker and the actor who helped launch that whole DC era.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the completed version, eventually arrived in 2021 as a four-hour film, restoring the director’s intended tone, structure and several character arcs that were heavily altered or removed from the 2017 theatrical release. Cavill’s Superman was a major part of that restoration, including his return in the black suit and a more mythic presentation of the character.

The Autumn dedication is also an important context, as Snyder stepped away from Justice League after his daughter’s death, and the eventual release of his version became tied not only to fan persistence but also to a deeply personal act of closure. That is part of why his restored Cut remains more emotionally loaded than the average director’s cut.

Since then, the DC universe has moved on. Cavill briefly returned as Superman in Black Adam, only for that comeback to end as James Gunn and Peter Safran began building a new DCU with David Corenswet in the role. Even so, Cavill’s Superman still has a powerful hold on a big part of the fandom.

That post from Snyder captures why. For many fans, Cavill was not just Superman, but one of the core cast members who helped carry the DCEU flame that led to the Justice League’s restored vision. When Snyder thanked him, it was not just nostalgia, but a nod to the actor who helped make that announcement all the more real.

Not only am I excited Henry Cavill’s Highlander reboot is moving forward, but I'm also personally stoked that Jumanji’s Karen Gillan is part of the cast! The star-studded revival is exactly what we need to give justice to the franchise’s immortal legacy, and Gillan is one of the better hype women out there. If you need an excuse to be more revved up for the upcoming reboot, Gillan just shared delightful on-set pics that make me wish all of her movies were filmed in Scotland.

When the actress first found out she landed the role of Connor MacLeod’s first wife in Highlander, she described it as “a beautiful, full circle moment” to film near her hometown. She's clearly enjoying herself stepping foot in her native Scottish land, and she shared plenty of delightful set pics on her Instagram stories that have me champing at the bit to see this movie. Wow, what a masterpiece! While I know this photo was taken while Karen Gillan was filming the action-fantasy flick, I have no idea of the photo's exact location or if this was near her hotel. I can only safely assume this is in Scotland, because of the time of some of her other posts, and because these landscapes are giving me serious Outlander vibes. The cloudy sky, dark waters, and billowy mountains give off an otherworldly energy that looks straight out of a timeless legend.

Karen Gillan may be an actress in Hollywood, but the Scottish actress certainly hasn’t strayed away from her roots in projects. After all, her directorial debut, The Party’s Just Beginning, was filmed in her birthplace of Inverness, and she previously filmed other projects in Scotland, like Outcast and Not Another Happy Ending.

This wasn't the end to the actress' hype for the upcoming movie release. Karen Gillan was quick to go from filming Jumanji 4 to Highlander, and it looks like she reaped some boozy awards for doing so. The Doctor Who actress posted one more photo that’s got Scottish vibes written all over it:

While still on the Jumani: Open World set she showed off her return to the crop top and short shorts, fun behind-the-scenes content with the Rock's stunt double and more, and I wouldn't expect anything else from Highlander. Precisely because of this though, I was honestly hoping she’d share some costume spoilers. The first look photo Henry Cavill posted led to a lot of chatter about the movie, and people are definitely interested in seeing more.

Now I've seen all these Highlander set photos, can she please keep it coming? With these spectacular hillside views, as well as Scottish booze and sunshine to follow, the UK location is pleasing to the eye with brilliant cinematography all over it. He is no stranger to breaking the internet, but his latest post might be one of his most effortlessly effective yet. And no, it has nothing to do with a 2026 movie release. The actor recently shared a beachside promotional image tied to a new watch campaign, and while the post itself leans into a polished, men's interest, style-magazine look, the reaction online has been anything but subtle. I honestly can’t get over the thirsty comments.

Cavill shared an image on Instagram, part of a campaign for Longines’ redesigned HydroConquest watch, shot along the coast of Tenerife. It’s a classic luxury setup. There’s the ocean backdrop, soft light, he in a crisp white shirt leaning against a rock like he’s been there all afternoon contemplating time itself. In the image, see below, everything is very refined and intentional.

His caption plays it straight. As a Longines ambassador, the Man of Steel star writes about the watch in terms like “lightness and dignity,” tying it to the ocean setting and even that galloping white horse way off in the background. It’s polished, elegant, exactly what you’d expect from a luxury campaign. The comments are a completely different story.

That contrast is really what makes the whole thing hilarious. On one side, you’ve got a carefully crafted campaign built around elegance. Calm visuals, understated tone, all about heritage, craftsmanship, and a watch that can handle anything from a casual swim to a deep dive. On the other side, you’ve got the internet collectively deciding they’d be happy to be a rock if it meant being anywhere near Cavill. The consensus seems to be that proximity, in any form, would do just fine. And honestly… fair enough. In that case, I was the watch.

At this point, comments about anything other than what the actor posts are basically part of the Cavill experience. He shares something straightforward, usually tied to an upcoming project or brand, and the comments immediately turn into their own kind of spectacle. One minute it’s admiration, the next it’s fans still holding out hope for his return as Superman in a revamped Snyderverse, or making yet another case for why he should be the next James Bond. The post might start one way, but it rarely stays there for long. And inevitably there is a lot of thirsting for the Witcher veteran.

The watch campaign's details basically feel secondary, now that the comment section has gone off the rails. Yes, the HydroConquest has been redesigned with updated indices, a new rotating bezel, and multiple finishes. Yes, it’s meant to reflect light in a way that mirrors the ocean itself. All of that is there, but like user @brittney_pnw pointed out, nobody is looking at the watch, Henry.

Henry Cavill has been a bit quiet over the last couple of years, his last major film being 2024’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and his brief cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. But that’s all about to change as he’s set to take on the role of Connor MacLeod in the upcoming Highlander remake, as well as several other upcoming 2026 projects.

The James Bond movies are one of the biggest and longest-running movie franchises in the business. Following No Time to Die's ending, there's been a ton of debate online about which actor might replace Daniel Craig as 007. Folks have been betting on James Bond odds for certain actors, and one popular fan choice is none other than Henry Cavill. The Argylle actor recently expressed interest in joining the beloved property, but not necessarily how people might have thought.

Cavill is an accomplished action star, thanks to his role as Superman (which is streaming with an HBO Max subscription), as well as Mission: Impossible and The Witcher TV series. In an interview with Heat Magazine (via Twitter), he spoke about previously auditioning for Bond, and shared how he'd like to join the property. In his words:

Honestly, I'm so in. While the pressure is on for Eon and Amazon to find a new actor to play 007, Henry Cavill would rather join the ranks of iconic Bond villains. He's got the star power to bring people to theaters, and his hulking physicality might be a great way to challenge James. We'll just have to wait for Bond 26's casting to actually begin, and see who ends up taking on the mantle of the martini-drinking MI6 agent.

At the time of writing this story, Cavill is 42 years old, which is a number of years older than Daniel Craig was when beginning his tenure as 007. There are reports that the studio is looking for a younger actor to play Bond, thanks to the years-long commitment and physical toll of the role. So putting him in the antagonist role arguably makes more sense.

Of course, there's no indication that Henry Cavill is actually being considered to play a villain in the next Bond movie. Still, you can't deny that he would be great for the role, especially as a British actor. Hopefully, we get some indication as to when casting is actually underway for the 26th James Bond movie.

It should be fascinating to see how the 007 franchise changes whenever it returns to the big screen. Daniel Craig's tenure saw the property step away from wild gadgets in favor of gritty action. Skyfall saw the death of Judi Dench's M, and No Time To Die ended by James actually being killed onscreen. So, how will Eon break new ground with another actor? Only time will tell, but now Amazon is involved.

No Time to Die is streaming now with a Netflix subscription. Fingers crossed there's some information about the franchise's future sooner rather than later.

Karen Gillan has just wrapped work on the newest entry in the Jumanji franchise, but there’s no rest for the wicked, and the actress is already jumping into her next project. She’s set to play the wife of Henry Cavill’s immortal hero in the remake of Highlander, and it appears that this morning she sat down over breakfast to go over the script.

Gillan posted an image on Instagram in which the two major stars were a bag of Scottish oats and a very nice, leather-bound copy of what is surely the Highlander script. It’s unclear from the image if she is actually on set right now, but she is surely headed in that direction.

Karen Gillan has been very excited to appear in the new Highlander movie, directed by John Wick’s Chad Stahelski. She is actually from the highlands of Scotland, making her the absolute right woman for the job.

We’ve already seen images of Henry Cavill in a modern-day setting as lead character Conor Macloud. Like the original Highlander, we know the new movie will take place both in the modern day and in the past. It appears the production is getting ready to film the sequences set in 1400s Scotland, where Gillan’s character will be prominent.

The original Highlander sees Conor MacLeod marry a girl named Heather after he is exiled from his clan for witchcraft following the discovery of his immortality. Heather is ultimately killed by the Kurgan, the movie’s villain, who will be played by Dave Bautista in the remake.

It’s unclear what deviations from the original the new Highlander may make. One that appears likely is an expanded role for Heather. She wasn’t a major character in the original film, only appearing in a couple of scenes. The flashbacks time-jumped over their meeting and falling in love. Heather mostly existed to be killed off.

It seems unlikely that anybody would hire Karen Gillan to play a role as small as the one in the original movie, which indicates the part will be a bit more substantial this time around. That could simply mean more screen time for Heather, or it could mean a more significant performance from her in the few scenes she has. It could also be some combination of the two.

Whatever the plan, as a serious fan of Highlander who always felt the franchise never really lived up to its potential, I can’t wait to see what happens with it. It seems clear that the plan, assuming the movie is successful, is a larger Highlander franchise. And if things change enough for Karen Gillan’s character, the possibility of seeing more of her isn’t out of the question.

These days, the future is looking bright for fans of DC Comics with all the upcoming DC movies on the way. From this summer’s Supergirl to 2027’s Superman follow-up, Man Of Tomorrow, there's a lot to be excited about. Still, it’s hard to forget what could have been with Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe continuity. To that point, Snyder recently talked about what he had in mind for his Man of Steel sequel.

In honor of the tenth anniversary of Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder talked about his plans for Man of Steel 2 on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. When asked if he thought about giving Henry Cavill’s Superman a sequel before landing on the team-up film with Batman and Wonder Woman, Snyder said this:

Now, funny enough, James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow is set to include Brainiac, and German actor Lars Eidinger was cast to play the famed DC villain back in December. But, obviously, Snyder’s take would have been much different and, now, I'm so curious about what that would have looked like. During his recent interview, Snyder also said this in regard to how he viewed his DC story:

As Snyder explained, when he and Warner Bros. landed on doing a team-up film rather than Man of Steel 2, he didn’t necessarily think of it as straying away from a sequel for Superman. He felt like Batman v. Superman was a Superman film as much as his initial idea was going to be, and the character was always central to the universe to him. While the age of the "Snyderverse" may be over, the filmmaker said fans should “never forget” that they helped release the Snyder Cut of Justice League.

While fans will surely continue to wonder what a solo Man of Steel follow-up might've looked like, it sounds like what came next in the Snyderverse ended up being exactly what Snyder felt like the right next move was for his universe. Bu, did the filmmaker feel any pressure to build up a universe to compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Snyder said Warner Bros was “very excited about Dawn of Justice” being on the Batman v. Superman title, whereas he didn’t “really need it” tacked on to the film.

Back in 2022, there was talk of Man of Steel 2 being developed before getting shelved due to execs handing the keys to James Gunn and Peter Safran. While Snyder's film isn't coming to fruition, at the very least, fans will get to see Superman do battle with Brainiac -- with Lex Luthor even assisting him -- in a movie, which is an exciting prospect. Man of Tomorrow is currently expected to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. In the meantime, read up on other projects announced for DCU Chapter One.

Over the last year, I’ve found myself writing about the Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill quite a bit. After more than a decade spent in development hell, the project was finally greenlit in 2023, and casting news started rolling in last year. While I was mildly interested in this new take because I like many of the actors who’ve been announced to appear, I definitely wouldn’t say I was ecstatic for Highlander because, and some of you may be surprised by this, I’d never actually seen the 1986 original. In my defense, it’s not like it’s considered to be one of the best 1980s movies.

Nevertheless, I finally decided to rectify that recently, and watching the movie that started it all was a real WTF experience, as was learning about where the franchise went from there. However, I strangely now find myself feeling a little bit of excitement for the new Highlander. But before I get into that, let me talk about the viewing experience with the original.

Highlander Is A Goofy Movie

I went into the original Highlander knowing about its premise of immortals fighting each other until the remaining victor claims the mysterious Prize, hearing names like Connor MacLeod and The Kurgan, and, of course, being familiar with the tagline “There can only be one.” But I didn’t know any of the specific plot beats, so let’s just say I went into Highlander 90% clueless. Well, nearly two hours later, I was left reeling from how goofy this movie is.

Highlander is not as serious as I was expecting it to be, although I won’t go so far as to call it an actual comedy. I actually had to check with one of my Gen X coworkers to see if people who saw Highlander when it was first released felt the same way, as people’s definition of what’s considered serious can change with time. Just compare 1989’s Batman to the Dark Knight trilogy and The Batman. But no, he confirmed to me people were all aware of Highlander’s inherent goofiness back then.

Christopher Lambert’s bizarre amalgamated accent as Connor in 1985. A pre-Shawshank Redemption Clancy Brown chewing the scenery several times over as The Kurgan. Scotsman Sean Connery plays an immortal from ancient Egypt who was masquerading as a Spaniard in the 1500s. The awkward-at-times fight choreography. The Queen-powered soundtrack. These are just some of the ways that made Highlander tonally disjointed for me, though it was certainly still an entertaining watch. And it does qualify as one of the great movies and TV shows about immortality.

The Franchise Got Even Weirder From There

After watching Highlander, I was curious about where the franchise went from there, and man, it gets way kookier from there. Highlander II: The Quickening revealed the immortals to be aliens, and the movie was so horribly received that an alternate “Renegade Edition” was cut together to remove their extraterrestrial origins. Highlander III: The Sorcerer just ignored Highlander II altogether, but neither it nor the following two movies fared much better critically.

That’s not to say everything in the Highlander franchise has been looked at unfavorably. The anime film Highlander: The Search for Vengeance received positive reviews. There’s also a dedicated fanbase for the live-action Highlander TV series that ran from 1992 to 1998 and followed along with Duncan MacLeod, Connor’s cousin, who lived in a world where the events of the first movie still happened, but they did not lead to the Gathering. Still, this is a franchise that’s seen more lows than highs, so it’s no wonder Highlander is in dire need of a reboot.

Why I’m Actually Looking Forward To The New Highlander Now

I’ll be honest, with the exception of possibly watching the TV show someday, I have no interest in checking out any of the Highlander projects from that first era. However, I’m all in on the general concept of immortals walking the Earth and fighting for the Prize, provided it can be handled with a more serious hand. This reboot may be able to do that.

For one thing, the new Highlander movie is being directed by Chad Stahelski, the man who also helmed the first four John Wick movies. So if Highlander is also rated R, we can hopefully expect the same kind of visceral, gritty action from Keanu Reeves’ film series. Infuse Highlander with that same kind of style and seriousness, albeit not going completely dour, and Amazon MGM Studios (which acquired the movie from Lionsgate) might have itself a hit.

I Hope The Reboot Expands Heather’s Role

As I mentioned earlier, Henry Cavill is being joined by a stacked lineup of talent in Highlander, including Russell Crowe as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, Dave Bautista as The Kurgan, Djimon Hounsou as an immortal African warrior (perhaps Sunda Kastagir), and Jeremy Irons as the leader of an organization called The Watchers that monitors these immortals. However, it’s Karen Gillan’s Heather, Connor MacLeod’s first wife, whom I’m hopeful is fleshed out in the reboot.

Heather’s role in the original Highlander is to show the tragedy of Connor marrying the love of his life, then having to watch her age and eventually die while he stays forever young. Oh yeah, and she screamed a lot when Ramirez and The Kurgan were fighting each other as her and Connor’s castle home slowly crumbled. With her action experience accumulated from playing Nebula in the MCU, Ruby Roundhouse in the Jumanji movies, and Sam in Gunpowder Milkshake, Karen Gillan deserves to play Heather as more than a simple damsel in distress. Put a sword in her hand and give her a more active role in the story.

Highlander began filming in late January after Henry Cavill recovered from an injury suffered during preproduction. The reboot doesn’t have a release date yet, but now that I have a better grasp on the franchise, I’m looking forward to learning when it will come out. I may not ever rewatch the original Highlander, but I’m legitimately interested now to see how this mythology can be adapted to appeal to modern audiences.

There have been attempts to reboot the Highlander franchise for years, but fans of the immortals fighting to the death can finally breathe a sigh of relief because the movie is actually happening. Henry Cavill is set to star in the reboot directed by Chad Stahelski, and we now have our first look at the new Connor MaCloud, and he looks pretty good.

Henry Cavill dropped two shots on his Instagram page, which show him in two very different locations, one appears to be the far east, and the other appears to be a cathedral. In one, he's holding a sword; in the other, he dons the classic Highlander trenchcoat, because how else are you going to walk around in public armed with a sword without making it obvious? As a fan of the Highlander franchise, I love everything about this. I've always felt Highlander was a franchise that truly needed a reboot, because the original films never really capitalized well on the franchise's potential, but I have to admit this is not what I expected from a first look.

Isn't Cavill's Highlander Supposed To Be More Of A Period Piece?

Both images appear to be set in the modern day. While the locations could be from different times, Cavill's character looks to be in more or less modern dress. While it had been reported that at least some of Highlander would take place in modern day, my impression was that the movie would be much more of an origin story, with a greater focus on the 1500s in the Scottish Highlands, than the original movie.

These two shots don't mean that isn't the case, of course, this could just be shots from the first scenes that were filmed, which happened to be the modern-day sequences for scheduling reasons. However, if I were going to release a first look at a new movie, i would want them to be representative of the movie we're going to get.

The original Highlander was mostly set in the modern day, but had significant flashback sequences giving us the origin story of Connor MaCloud. It looks like something like that might be what the new movie is going to do as well. The problem with that is that part of the reason that Highlander never worked as a franchise is that it did too much in the first movie, making sequels mostly irrelevant.

The Casting Announcements For Highlander Certainly Focus On the Past

The impression I certainly had from the comments director Chad Stahelski had made was that the new Highlander would be taking a longer and slower approach to the story, so the first film would focus more on the characters' origins.

That's certainly been the focus of the casting. Most of the major roles that have been revealed are focused on the early part of the main character's life. Russell Crowe is set to play the part of the Highlander's teacher, played by Sean Connery in the original film. Karen Gillan is set to play Cavill's mortal love interest from his time in the past.

Dave Bautista is on board as the Kurgan, the villain of the story, who dies at the end of the original movie, but who I fully expected to survive into future films, though now I'm not so sure anymore.

Although David Corenswet currently holds the mantle of cinematic Superman following his debut as the Man of Steel last year in the still-youthful DC Universe, it wasn’t that long ago that Henry Cavill was wearing the red cape. Cavill first appeared as Clark Kent/Kal-El in 2013’s Man of Steel and went on to reprise the character three more times (counting both versions of Justice League). Now a Hollywood producer has shared that during the heyday of Cavill’s time in the DC Extended Universe, he ran into the actor and heard him say “one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard anyone say ever.”

Alan Powell, the co-founder on Monarch Media, shared this story on his Instagram page, explaining how around the time that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was coming out, he was at a hotel where he ended up holding the door for a lot of people coming and going. Powell ended up standing there for a “good solid 60 seconds” until someone took over for him. The producer continued:

That definitely qualifies as a badass line to drop on someone when they recognize you for playing one of pop culture’s most famous superheroes. This encounter took place close to three years after Henry Cavill first played Superman, so between people recognizing him from Man of Steel and all the billboards and other advertisements for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it would have been difficult not to notice Cavill nearby if your attention wasn’t otherwise occupied. The same would have gone for Ben Affleck, if not more so, as he had a much bigger profile than Cavill before becoming the DCEU’s Batman.

Alan Powell talked about his encounter with Henry Cavill around the same time that Zack Snyder, who directed Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and the original version of Justice League, shared a photo of the actor in the “original Superman suit,” i.e. the one Christopher Reeves wore in his film series. The last time we saw Cavill playing Superman was in the Black Adam post-credits scene, and originally the plan was for him to appear in more DC movies. However, when James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired to run DC Studios, it was decided to reboot the character again, bringing Cavill’s Superman tenure to an end.

While it remains to be seen if Henry Cavill could play a different character in the DCU, just like how Jason Momoa is now Lobo following his time as Aquaman, at least we’ll get to see him in all sorts of other movies coming up. He has the Highlander reboot, In the Grey, Enola Holmes 3 and the live-action Voltron all lined up, though none of them have release dates yet. And you can always revisit Cavill’s Superman appearances your HBO Max subscription while you cross your fingers hoping you’ll run into him someday like Alan Powell did.

The comic book genre continues to be wildly popular, although things on the DC side of things have changed in recent years. The previous DCEU (which is streaming with a HBO Max subscription) was dropped, with co-CEO James Gunn crafted a new shared universe called the DCU. We've gotten the first few titles of the the first phase, called Gods and Monsters, although Zack Snyder has been posting some throwbacks from his time at DC, and he graced us on Christmas morning with a photo of Henry Cavill wearing Christopher Reeve's original Superman suit.

While fans are looking forward to upcoming DC movies like Supergirl and Man of Tomorrow, Snyder has been looking back while growing his Instagram following. He posted a photo of Cavill when joining the social media outlet, although the latest shows him in that OG suit. Check it out below:

I mean, how cool is that? Christopher Reeves' Superman is the OG movie version of the beloved DC hero, and his colorful costume is just one reason why it's so iconic. Snyder put Cavill in that suit while testing what he might look like in Man of Steel, and you can't deny that he looks the part. And it's for this reason that he was the DCEU's version of the hero, playing him in three movies (four, including the Snyder Cut).

Zack Snyder shared this image to his 578K followers on Instagram, with that number growing every time he posts a DC throwback. Fans who spent years watching the DC movies in order will recall how Man of Steel's success kickstarted the entire shared universe, as well as how Cavill returned as Superman in Black Adam. Unfortunately the entire shared universe was axed shortly after.

James Gunn's Superman crushed at the box office, with actor David Corenswet proving he had the looks, hair curl, and hopeful attitude to bring the title character to life. But for some moviegoers Cavill is still their favorite, which is why Snyder's posts about him quickly go viral. In fact, he shared a second shot on Christmas. Check it out below:

In the end, Cavill's final starring performance as Superman was in Justice League, although the Snyder Cut finally revealed the titular filmmaker's original vision for The Last Son of Krypton. While Cavill announced his return in his signature role after Black Adam, those plans were scrapped and we were given a full DC reboot.

Despite the years that have passed, some fans are still hoping that Warner Bros. does #RestoreTheSnyderVerse, giving the director the chance to bring his two planned Justice League sequels to life. There's no indication this is actually happening, but that hasn't stopped certain fans from keeping hope alive.

The entire DCEU is streaming now on HBO Max. The next DC movie hitting theaters is Supergirl on June 26th as part of the 2026 movie release list. As for Cavill, he's got a ton of upcoming projects coming down the line including Enola Holmes 3.

The fan-favorite filmmaker just launched his account in October and, since then, he’s been racking up followers. Henry Cavill’s Superman has appeared in a few, and Snyder just dropped another Supes pic as he marked a social media milestone.

This weekend, Zack Snyder returned to Instagram to commemorate the fact that he hit over 400,000 followers. Considering he only joined the platform last month, that’s a very impressive feat. It makes sense that he’d want to celebrate that accomplishment, and I’m digging the fact that he used a pic of the DCEU’s Last Son of Krypton to do it. When it comes to this photo, the 300 helmer – who apparently shot this on his iPhone – didn’t specify which of his DCU movies it was taken from. My guess would be that this is either from the set of Man of Steel or Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, though. What I appreciate is that Snyder’s stream of posts seem to convey just how much he still relishes his time making his superhero movies. These tidbits also serve as cool tidbits that pull back the curtain on his gigantic blockbusters.

It also seems Zack Snyder has a particular fondness for the Big Blue Boy Scout, particularly Henry Cavill’s iteration of the hero. As a matter of fact, upon joining IG, Snyder immediately made it clear that Cavill was Superman in his eyes. Opinions on that front vary, especially given David Corenswet’s winning performance as Kal-El in the DCU. However, it’s hard not to love the fact that Snyder is still such an ardent proponent of Cavill’s Supes and is dropping photos of him in his “natural setting.”

Kal-El isn’t the only DCEU character who’s been showcased on Snyder’s Instagram account as of late. The director also recently shared one of his favorite photos of Ben Affleck’s Batman, and the snapshot gives all sorts of “Sadfleck” vibes. Additionally, Snyder posted a photo of Jared Leto’s Joker, with various fans subsequently commenting that they’d love to see more of that version of the Clown Prince of Crime.

Zack Snyder’s posts seemingly have fans feeling nostalgic for the DCEU continuity, which formally concluded with 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Since then, many have been rallying for the fictional universe to be revived and built upon in some form or fashion. At present, the chances of that happening seem slim, considering Warner Bros. and the newly established DC Studios are moving along with DCU Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters.

Still, the DCEU films still exist as they are and fans can still discuss and appreciate them as they so choose. As for Snyder, I wouldn’t be surprised if he continues to drop behind-the-scenes photos from those superhero movies. If that is indeed the case, I could also see his follower count on Instagram only increasing with time.

The Witcher cast faced a serious shakeup ahead of Season 4, after Henry Cavill left and Liam Hemsworth took over the role of Geralt. While there has been a lot of noise surrounding this switch, on set, things were very merry. That became very clear too as Joey Batey, who plays Jaskier, explained the sweet way the cast welcomed The Hunger Games actor.

I think it’s fitting that the way Hemsworth was welcomed to The Witcher was explained by Joey Batey, who plays a bard and Geralt’s closest friend. While chatting about The Witcher Season 4 and the major cast shift, the actor made it clear that their new co-star was welcomed with open arms and a trip to the pub. He told SFX Magazine on CinemaBlend:

Well, that’s so sweet, and it goes right along with Batey’s feelings about Hemsworth taking over the role. During an interview with CinemaBlend, he told us that his new co-star “looked absolutely fantastic,” and brought an “animalistic nature” to his fights and a “wryness” to the way he spoke that worked really well. That's pretty high praise!

To that point, in the story for SFX Magazine on CinemaBlend, Batey went on to compliment how The Last Song actor took ownership of the iconic character. After he was welcomed, it seemed like he fit into the Witcher world seamlessly, as the Jaskier actor explained:

Liam Hemsworth did say he felt like a kid on the first day of school when he put on the Geralt costume for the first time. However, his co-stars clearly explained that he was a natural when it came to playing The White Wolf.

It also simply sounds like he was a great guy to be around. Batey said that he and Hemsworth would really get each other laughing on set, and that “mischievous” behavior he described sounds delightful:

All around, I’m so here for how The Witcher cast welcomed Liam Hemsworth into the fold. Taking over the role of Geralt is no small task. He literally stepped into the shoes of the beloved character, and a lot of pressure comes with that. So, to have a group of people who were so excited to welcome and work with him must have meant the world.

Zack Snyder’s been active on social media lately, as the fan-favorite director recently joined Instagram. During his time on the platform, Snyder has been treating fans to behind-the-scenes tidbits from his various films, including his DC Extended Universe installments. Some may not be surprised to hear that the director has been posting about Henry Cavill’s Superman. And, with his latest post about the British actor’s superhero role, Snyder managed to get fans truly pumped in the comment section.

Weeks ago, the Army of the Dead helmer shared a photo of the DCEU’s Last Son of Krypton and declared that Henry Cavill was Superman. That post was met with a number of fans who seemed to agree with the sentiment. Snyder didn’t make as bold a declaration with his more recent post, which includes a photo of a film reel with Cavill as Supes. This time around, Snyder was apparently trying to capture “Henry in his natural setting.” Check out the Instagram post:

The photos Zack Snyder has been sharing are indeed cool, and this one is no different. What this photo essentially symbolizes is the relationship between an actor and the camera. In other words, Snyder is suggesting that being on camera is the natural place for his former leading man to be, which is a kind sentiment – and a true one. Cavill has dazzled on the big screen in a number of roles, and he possesses a distinct kind of charm that continues to endear him to audiences.

Henry Cavill made his debut as the Big Blue Boy Scout in Snyder’s 2013 film Man of Steel, which kickstarted the DCEU. The actor’s tenure in the role ultimately concluded with 2022’s Black Adam, as his Supes appeared via a cameo pushed, in part, by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the film’s producer and leading man. Since then, the DCU continuity has emerged under the stewardship of James Gunn, and David Corenswet landed the role of the titular hero in Gunn’s Superman. While some fans have been upset about Cavill not continuing in the role, others believe Gunn’s take on Supes succeeds in ways that the DCEU’s MoS didn’t.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and can have their favorites accordingly, of course. Still, it seems that many are still carrying a torch for Zack Snyder's iteration of Kal-El, and that rings true for other characters the filmmaker oversaw. Just recently, his photo of Ben Affleck’s Batman garnered similar reactions. It’s highly doubtful that Snyder’s posts are meant to tease an upcoming DC movie but are instead just tributes to the actors he worked alongside for years.

There’s no ifs, ands or buts about it, Geralt of Rivia’s look is iconic and very distinct. So, as Liam Hemsworth took over The Witcher role for Season 4, I was curious what it felt like for him to put that costume on for the first time, and I wondered how the cast reacted to him in it as well. So, I asked Hemsworth and his co-star, Anya Chalotra, about it, and they made a comparison that is just as funny as it is logical.

Ahead of The Witcher’s Season 4 premiere on Netflix’s 2025 schedule, I had the chance to interview Hemsworth, Anya Chalotra, who plays Yennefer, and Ciri actress Freya Allan together. I asked them all about the fact that there was a new Geralt actor this season, and when I specifically posed a question to the Yennefer actress about seeing Hemsworth in costume for the first time, she said:

So, the three leads of The Witcher got to be together for this monumental moment, which was fun. It turns out it was funny too. That became clear as Liam Hemsworth cut in to explain that he kind of felt like a kid on the first day of school when he rolled up wearing that white wig and Geralt’s signature black look. He said:

I have to say, he pulls the fit (and the wig) off nicely, and overall, his castmates were easily able to work with him as Geralt after Henry Cavill left. However, The Hunger Games actor wasn’t the only one feeling like he was the new kid on the block. Chalotra, who has been playing Yen for four seasons, also felt that energy, too, as she explained:

She went on to say that while the whole situation was quite “surreal,” it also felt “natural.” Now, you can watch Hemsworth’s take on Geralt with a Netflix subscription, and, at least to me, it seems like he really did fit right into this world naturally.

Overall, it makes sense why putting on the costume for the first time felt like a big first day of school. It was a big first, and there was a lot of noise surrounding Hemsworth’s casting and Cavill’s exit. Plus, no matter how you shake it, it’s hard to replace a lead character after they’ve been played by someone for so long. Then, add in the lore and fandom that comes with The Witcher, as well as the incredibly distinct look Geralt has, and you have a recipe for pressure.

However, I love that they handled it all with laughs and a fun interaction.

Now, we can all see Liam Hemsworth in Geralt’s get-up too, because Season 4 of The Witcher is out now on Netflix, and Season 5 is on the way.

Zack Snyder might be late to Instagram, but he wasted no time making his stance on one of DC’s most debated topics very clear: who’s the definitive Superman? While many, including myself, think James Gunn’s take on the Kryptonian hero improved on a lot of the problems we had with Snyder’s Man of Steel, the filmmaker, known for his fiercely loyal fanbase, made his debut on the social media platform this week and immediately used his first post to reaffirm who he sees as the definitive ranked Man of Steel.

In one of his first uploads, the 300 director shared a moody black-and-white behind-the-scenes photo of Cavill suited up from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, shot on his beloved Leica monochrome 50mm Noctilux lens. His Instagram post, which can be seen below, was captioned with a short, deliberate, and unmistakably on-brand caption from the Sucker Punch filmmaker: “Henry Cavill is Superman.”

The post instantly caught fire among Snyder fans, many of whom have long championed Cavill’s portrayal as the definitive version of the iconic character. However, the update also reignited the never-ending debate on who is the best actor in the role of the Last Son of Krypton, especially since James Gunn’s reboot starring David Corenswet hit the 2025 release schedule and was a commercial and critical success–officially launching the slate of new DCU movies.

The Army of the Dead creator’s message comes through loud and clear, despite the heated back-and-forth in the comments. The wait for the long in-development Highlander reboot to start filming got a little longer earlier this month. Originally the plan had been for cameras to roll before the year was over, but lead actor Henry Cavill injuring himself during preproduction necessitated that production now begin in early 2026. Cavill has now shared a look at his injury encased in a boot has he goes through the “torment” of getting back in shape for Highlander.

Exactly how Cavill injured his leg remains a mystery, but he’s clearly putting in the work to ensure that he heals properly. That’s evidenced in the pictures he shared on Instagram of the physical therapy he’s going through, and The Witcher actor even threw in a deep-cut video game reference for good measure:

Dak’kon is one of the characters featured in the 1999 video game Planescape: Torment, which takes place in locations from the Planescape multiverse from Dungeons & Dragons. Considering how much Henry Cavill loves Warhammer 40,000 and various other nerdy properties, it’s not surprising to me that he broke out a quote like this to accompany these pictures. Cavill previously shared the poem Invictus when he first posted on social media about his injured leg.

He’ll need to be in tip top shape in order to portray Connor MacLeod in Highlander, a role he’s been officially attached to since 2023, although he was reported to be in talks for it in 2021. The reboot’s production will follow him having completed work on the live-action Voltron movie and Enola Holmes 3.

Just like the original 1986 movie, the new Highlander depicts Connor as an Immortal who was born in the Scottish Highlands in the 16th century and becomes drawn into a war amongst other Immortals to compete in the Gathering, where the Prize is up for grabs. Fellow Man of Steel actor Russell Crowe was the first person to be cast in Highlander after Cavill, with him playing Ramirez, Connor’s mentor. Dave Bautista was later tapped to play lead antagonist The Kurgan, and just yesterday it was reported that Jeremy Irons will play an unidentified baddie who leads a group called The Watchers. Other cast members include Djimon Hounsou, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Max Zhang and Drew McIntyre.

Directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Michal Finch, Highlander doesn’t have a release date set yet by Amazon-MGM, which took over making the reboot from Lionsgate. However, assuming Henry Cavill’s physical recovery goes well, presumably there’ll be an uptick in specific details about the reboot once principal photography begins at the start of next year.

Highlander’s filming may have been delayed due to Henry Cavill getting injured during preproduction, but the long-awaited reboot is still making progress forward. The latest update comes in the form of another casting, as Jeremy Irons has joined the new take on the 1986 fantasy cult classic. Not only does the role he’s playing sound fascinating, but this also means we’re getting a DC Extended Universe reunion in Highlander.

Jeremy Irons played Alfred Pennyworth in the defunct superhero franchise, and while he didn’t share any scenes with Henry Cavill’s Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, they did briefly cross paths in Justice League (both cuts). For Highlander, THR has shared that like Dave Bautista, Irons is playing one of the movie’s antagonists. While Bautista’s Kurgan has top baddie status, Irons is playing the leader of a group called The Watchers, who are, as described by the publication, “keeping an eye on the immortals and see them as a threat to humanity.”

The Watchers weren’t present in the original Highlander movie, instead being introduced to the mythology in Highlander: The Series. One in particular, Joe Lawson, ended up becoming an integral character in the TV show from Season 2 onwards as he chronicled the life of lead protagonist Connor MacLeod. The Watchers were later featured in the short-lived spinoff Highlander: The Raven, as well the movies Highlander: Endgame and Highlander: The Source, which took place in the same continuity as the first movie and the aforementioned TV shows.

I’m eager to see how the Highlander reboot utilizes Jeremy Irons’ unnamed character and the other Watchers. Judging by that description, it sounds like this version of the Watchers could also take their cue from a splinter group in Highlander: The Series called The Hunters, which believed that the Immortals needed to be exterminated. With Irons being brought aboard to play such a prominent role, it sounds like The Watchers will not only clash with Connor MacLeod in the upcoming movie, but also target other Immortals, like The Kurgan.

I should note that Jeremy Irons isn’t the only DCEU alum appearing alongside Henry Cavill in Highlander. Russell Crowe, who played Jor-El in Man of Steel, will play Ramirez, Connor MacLeod’s mentor. Djimon Hounsou has also been cast as an immortal warrior from Africa. However, Hounsou never shared any screen time with Cavill in the DCEU. He played King Ricou in Aquaman, and The Wizard in both Shazam!movies, none of which Cavill appeared in. Both actors also cameoed separately in Black Adam.

The Highlander cast also includes Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Max Zhang and Drew McIntyre. Chad Stahelski is directing the reboot off a script written by Michael Finch. Originally Highlander was a Lionsgate production, but now it’s being handled by Amazon-MGM United Artists banner. It still doesn’t have a release date, but cameras are now set to begin rolling in early 2026.

We still don’t know exactly happened to Henry Cavill’s leg while he was training for Highlander, only that, as Deadline reported, it meanders filming is now expected to begin until early next year. Perhaps Cavill was instructed by the higher-ups at Amazon MGM Studios, which is handling Highlander’s release under its United Artists banner as of this pas April, to not confirm the circumstances of how he was injured. Regardless, we here at CinemaBlend wish him a speedy recovery. I also appreciate that these pictures included cameos from that adorable Frenchie and his Warhammer literature.

Highlander still doesn’t have a release date yet, but maybe that’s for the best right now as Henry Cavill recuperates. Meanwhile, you can stream the actor’s last movie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, on Starz, which is easy enough to include as an add-on to your Hulu subscription or Amazon Prime Video subscription.

It's an interesting time in the comic book genre, as the DCU is still in its infancy. Created by co-CEO James Gunn, the first slate of projects is titled Gods and Monsters and includes both movie and TV projects. Following Superman's time in theaters, the new season of Peacemaker has begun for those with an HBO Max subscription. Sorry, Henry Cavill fans but the Justice League (and entire DCEU) was retconned in the first episode.

Peacemaker Season 2 is finally here, and the first episode set the internet ablaze. Fans who spent years watching the DC movies in order were surprised by how Gunn decided to tell fans what was canon in the new DCU. That includes the Peacemaker finale's cameos, which featured a brief appearance by the Justice League, including dialogue from Ezra Miller's Flash and Jason Momoa's Aquaman. Instead we saw the Justice Gang from Superman (Kal-El and Milly Alcock's Supergirl). And just like that, it's like the previous shared universe was never there at all.

The scene itself played out almost identically to what went down in Season 1. During the "previously in the DCU" sequence that started the episode (and clarified what was being kept from the DCEU), we once again saw the Justice Gang (not League) arriving after the final battle. They are mostly silhouettes, with the exception being Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl and Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner, who replaced Miller and Momoa. You can check out the group assembled below, this time with figures from the growing DCU.

Seeing this ensemble together, albeit briefly, is pretty exciting. But it might hurt for fans of Cavill and the original cast, who have seemingly ended their tenures as those characters. It's interesting that Supergirl was included as a member of the team, as her Superman cameo made it seem like she was more interested in partying than saving people. Plus Metamorpho was noticeably absent after seemingly joining the group in David Corenswet's movie.

While this is the final nail in the coffin for the DCEU, I thought this was a really effective way for Gunn to clarify what is and isn't canon in this new shared universe. He even shot a scene with Peacemaker and Harcourt to explain his antagonistic relationship with Green Lantern Guy Gardner. As we saw in the Peacemaker Season 2 trailer, both he and Hawkgirl are there during his interview to join the Justice Gang.

There's no telling what surprises and cameos might be coming our way with Season 2 of John Cena's DC series. The first season showed the multiverse being in use, so the sky's the limit here.

New episodes of Peacemaker air Thursdays on HBO Max as part of the 2025 TV premiere list. Although I'm not going to hold out hope that he actually joins the Justice Gang.

Following her time playing Amy Pond in Doctor Who, Karen Gillan transitioned into a full-fledged movie star from playing Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Ruby Roundhouse in the modern Jumanji movies, amongst other projects. Now the actress has added another franchise to her resume, as she’ll star opposite Henry Cavill in the Highlander reboot. While the casting itself is interesting enough, what’s even better is how Gillan reacted to the news.

First things first, THR revealed today that Gillan has come aboard Highlander to play Heather, the mortal wife of Cavill’s character, Conor MacLeod. Heather was played by Beatie Edney in the original Highlander, but it’s unclear if the reboot will use Gillan’s version in roughly the same way or if the character will be utilized differently, perhaps with her role expanded. In any case, Gillan , most recently seen in The Life of Chuck, said the following on Instagram when she passed along the news of her casting:

Karen Gillan is referring to the fact that she’s Scottish, because in the original Highlander, Conor MacLeod lived in the Scottish Highlands in the 16th century before he became an immortal warrior. It sounds like we can expect the same from Henry Cavill’s Conor, though whether or not he’ll still have that accent in the present day remains to be seen. For Gillan, this means she can be her authentic Scottish self in Highlander rather than adopt a different accent like she did when playing Nebula and Ruby. Sorry, Karen’s acting coach, you’ll need to find someone else to work with as the long-awaited reboot is shooting.

This will also now serve as a Guardians of the Galaxy reunion, as Dave Bautista, who co-starred with Karen Gillan in those Marvel movies as Drax, has been cast as The Kurgan. The lineup of Highlander actors also includes Russell Crowe as Ramirez (Crowe and Cavill previously worked together on Man of Steel) and Industry’s Marisa Abela in an undisclosed role. Chad Stahelski, whom Lionsgate gave creative oversight over both the Highlander and John Wick franchises, is directing the feature off a script written by Michael Finch.

Highlander is expected to begin filming at the end of September, but there’s no word yet about when it will be released in theaters. Karen Gillan’s other upcoming movies include Let’s Have Kids!, The Trip and Jumanji 4, the latter of which is scheduled for December 11 on the 2026 movies schedule.

We’re almost a month into Superman’s run on the 2025 movie calendar, and it seems that the public has accepted David Corenswet’s big blue Boy Scout. On and off screen, the man seems to wear his golden retriever personality on his sleeve, and as a result the DCU Chapter 1 charm offensive continues to work its magic. Which only makes the story of how Robert Pattinson didn’t reach out after he joined the DCU even funnier, and the story of exchanging letters with past Supermen all the sweeter.

If the display of “anger” shown during Corenswet’s joint interview with Nicholas Hoult for MTV is any indication, one would think that you could get away with murder in his proverbial court. Obviously joking about his rage over The Batman’s leading man not sending any word, the Twisters antagonist then reflected on this touching experience he had with two of his caped predecessors:

In the cinematic wreckage of what was supposed to be the DCEU, Henry Cavill’s tenure saw him embody Kal-El in three full movies. There was also a smattering of cameos, which ended with that infamous Black Adam post-credit scene. It was a relatively darker incarnation than Tyler Hoechlin’s leading role in the CW’s Superman and Lois; which felt to some like an antidote to the Snyderverse’s version of the character.

No one holds that cape forever, as we saw with Superman and Lois’ four season run coming to an end last December. Hoechlin’s heartfelt message on the show’s end saw him encouraging successors like David Corenswet, which is a total Clark Kent move. That fact wasn’t lost on Superman’s star, as he explained in his continued remarks:

You can take the actor out of the cape, but in most cases fans would agree that you can’t take that Smallville spirit out of the men who’ve played the defender of Metropolis. Indeed the Metahumans in DC Comics seem to be banding together; which kind of makes Robert Pattinson’s lack of communication fitting, considering Batman doesn’t have powers.

Perhaps now with The Batman: Part II’s completed script, the cinematic Bruce Wayne can get in touch with David Corenswet, and talk about trying to work on getting James Gunn to fulfill our Batman/Superman wishes. That'll have to wait, as we can all still bask in the glow of Superman, currently showing in theaters.

Audiences just witnessed the emergence of a new big-screen Superman via the release of James Gunn’s movie of the same name. However, a few years ago, there was a point at which it seemed that Henry Cavill would return to play the Man of Steel. That was due to Cavill reprising the role for a cameo in The Rock’s Black Adam. Gunn recently reflected on the situation, recalling his confusion over the turn of events. The filmmaker didn’t specifically call out Rock, but it is known that the wrestler/actor was a driving force behind that cameo.

James Gunn Talks About The Situation Involving Henry Cavill’s Return For Black Adam

The timeline of events that play into this Superman/Black Adam situation seems quite complex. James Gunn managed to provide further clarity, though, while promoting his 2025 movie release. During Gunn’s appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he recalled being brought on to direct a new take on Supes for Warner Bros. and how he was later tapped to become co-head of DC Studios. Gunn eventually discussed how taken aback he was when Henry Cavill’s supposed return was announced, given his own film:

As the Guardians of the Galaxy helmer went on to say, that wasn’t the plan for Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. So, ultimately, both James Gunn and Peter Safran (the co-head of DC Studios) had to sit down with Henry Cavill and explain the situation. While Gunn didn’t mention Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson during his interview (which is on YouTube), previously shared behind-the-scenes tidbits lay out how Johnson and the Black Adam team worked to get Cavill back.

How Was The Rock Involved In Superman’s Return To The DCEU?

The Last Son of Krypton’s return in the Black Adam mid-credits scene generated plenty of hype amongst fans in 2022, though it also generated a number of questions. THR shed some light on the matter and, apparently, The Rock and director Jaume Collet-Serra felt compelled to add Kal-El to the film after a test-screening a scene that revealed Supes only by way of a silhouette and his iconic emblem. From there, Collet-Serra and Rock felt even more compelled to get the Man from U.N.C.L.E. star back in his superhero role.

From there, Dwayne Johnson reportedly lobbied hard to get Henry Cavill back into the fold. Johnson and Cavill, coincidentally, also shared a manager, who joined Johnson in pushing for Cavill’s return. Although then-DC Films head Walter Hamada didn’t like the idea (due to having other Superman-related plans), Johnson went over the exec’s head by going to Warner Bros.’ film heads, Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy. Ultimately, Abdy and De Luca approved Johnson’s request.

The rest, as they say, is movie history. After the cameo was revealed, The Rock reacted to Supes’ return, even admitting that he and his team “fought for years” to bring the character back. The A-lister was also incredibly bullish about having Black Adam and Superman fight each other in a film at some point. By early 2023, after James Gunn and co. officially took the reins at DC Studios, the Jungle Cruise actor addressed the Supes fiasco while at the Oscars. He stated that with the situation, all he and his collaborators could do was make the best movie possible.

It goes without saying that a lot has certainly changed, as the DCU continuity is now in full swing, with James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm. Considering the cameo situation and creative overhaul, Gunn admitted to Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz that it was “terrible” having break the news to Henry Cavill. Nevertheless, he’s still open to casting Cavill in a new role. Time will tell if that happens but, for now, stream Cavill’s film appearances as Superman using an HBO Max subscription.

With the release of the new Superman movie, it was always going to be the case that fans and critics would compare the new version of the Man of Steel played by David Corenswet to the previous version played by Henry Cavill. Some of the comparisons have been more favorable to one actor over the other, but none have been quite as funny as a viral Twitter post that suggests that David Corenswet is just Henry Cavill after being exposed to The Substance.

A viral post on Twitter puts the two Superman actors side by side, in shots where they look remarkably similar, and then includes a line that will be easily recognizable to those who saw The Substance:

While there’s certainly a visual similarity between Henry Cavill and David Corenswet when they’re flying around as Superman, you don’t actually realize how much Corenswet looks like a young Henry Cavill until you see them outside the costume.

One certainly expects the different actors to have played Superman in live-action to look similar. The character has a fairly traditional design after all. They sort of all look alike to one degree or another. Although, if Nicholas Hoult had been cast as Superman, which nearly happened, we wouldn’t have quite the similarity that we have here. It seems unlikely Coresnwet’s resemblance to Cavill played any real part in his casting, but if we somehow learned that it did, I’m not sure anybody would be shocked.

Now that I think about it... has anybody seen Henry Cavill and David Corenswet in the same room? Is it possible that Cavill has taken The Substance and has actually become the new Superman and the two are trading off weeks? Henry Cavill is set to play the Highlander soon, but perhaps he's found a different way to try and be immortal.

While I find the post pretty funny, it has to be said that not everybody does. While it’s clearly meant as a fun joke pointing out that, more than a decade after Man of Steel, a younger actor of similar build has taken on the iconic role, many seem to feel the post is meant as a specific attack on the older Henry Cavill.

Nobody is saying that Henry Cavill doesn’t still look amazing. He’s aged remarkably well and is still capable of leading major blockbusters – as he’s already set to do with future projects including Voltron, Highlander, and the Warhammer franchise he loves so much. Superman is Cavill's past, but it's expected to be David Corenswet's future – and you can see the start of his legacy in theaters everywhere now.

While I have never been a huge fan of Superman, James Gunn’s upcoming DC movie starring David Corenswet is one of my most anticipated upcoming 2025 movies. So, I figured now was a good time for me to finally get around to watching Zack Snyder’s 2013 interpretation of the last son of Krypton, Man of Steel.

The ridiculously divisive reception of the Henry Cavill-led Superman film led me to pass on checking it out for more than a decade, but I had a feeling my general lack of interest in the character would benefit me with an objective point of view so I could judge it fairly. Well, I ended up not caring much for it, and for many of the same reasons that disappointed even die-hard comic book fans. However, there was one aspect I assumed I would enjoy that sadly turned out to be the one thing I disliked most about Man of Steel. Allow me to explain…

Michael Shannon Was Wrong For Zod

Ever since I saw his performance in Take Shelter, a 2011 movie that gets honest about mental health, I have believed that Michael Shannon is one of the most talented actors alive. I have especially enjoyed some of his villainous roles, such as in Guillermo del Toro’s Best Picture Oscar winner, 2017’s The Shape of Water, so I was genuinely excited to finally see how he plays one of Superman’s archenemies, General Zod, in Man of Steel when I booted up my HBO Max subscription. However, my reaction to the performance may sound like heresy to other fans of the two-time Oscar nominee.

I recently wrote a listicle about miscast movie and TV villains, and had I seen Man of Steel then, I would have included Shannon’s Zod. Forgive me, but in my opinion, he lacks an authentic aura of menace needed to pull off an antagonist capable of creating such cataclysmic destruction. On top of that, I think he just feels generally out of place in the role, especially when interacting with fellow Kryptonians in the prologue. One could argue that is by design, based on the alien warrior’s opposition to how Krypton is governed, but it simply did not work for me, and that disappointed feeling lasted for the rest of the film.

Michael Shannon's Zod Might Have Worked In A Less Bleak Superman Movie

There is a part of me, however, that believes Shannon’s portrayal of Zod could have been an all-time great DC villain performance, but not in a movie like Man of Steel. You see, another major issue I have with the movie, which has also proved very divisive among fans, is that it takes itself just a little too seriously for its own good, especially when you consider that its lead hero is traditionally depicted as hopeful, positive, and fun. I cannot help but believe that the idea of having fun was also on Shannon’s mind.

While some of his comments in the past suggest Shannon did take his Man of Steel role very seriously, watching him, I get the feeling that he also wanted to ham it up a little bit with a more traditionally over-the-top comic book villain performance. Zod’s fourth, overexaggerated yelp of the line “I will find him!” in the prologue was enough to convince me of that. I am totally all for that approach, and I believe it probably would have worked if the tone of this Superman movie matched the tone of his portrayal, as I see it.

A movie that offered a perfect opportunity for Shannon to not hold anything back, as Zod was The Flash, which I think proudly leaned into its cheesiness. However, he seemed to have less enthusiasm for the role in that reprisal, and his comments to Collider in 2023 basically confirm that. I do wonder, though, if he were to give the role one more try–with Zack Snyder’s blessing, of course–how well his Zod would fare in an upcoming superhero movie set in James Gunn’s new DC Universe. It’s worth thinking about…

As a big Highlander fan, I’ve been following the plans to reboot the franchise for years, and after multiple starts and stops, it looks like the movie may finally actually happen, as new actors are being cast in the film. The most recent name added to the list is Russell Crowe, who will reunite with his former Man of Steel co-star Henry Cavill, but it turns out that wasn’t the first place these two met.

The Story Behind The Advice Russell Crowe Once Gave Henry Cavill

Back when Man of Steel was released, the cast appeared on The Graham Norton Show, and Crowe talked about meeting a 16-year-old Henry Cavill. Crowe was on hand at the Stowe School, shooting the movie Proof of Life with Meg Ryan, where Cavill was a student. Crowe says he noticed a young Cavill as a particularly adept rugby player, and the two started talking, and Cavill wanted advice on how to become an actor. Crowe said…

Crowe says he later put together a couple of care packages, one for Merlin Hanbury-Tenison, who played Crowe’s on-screen son in the film, and also went to the school, and another for Cavill. In Cavill’s, he included a note. Crowe continued his story…

Years later, on the set of Man of Steel, Crowe apparently asked Cavill if the two had met before, and Cavill had to remind Crowe of their meeting, it seems.

Cavill And Crowe Will Reunite In The Highlander Reboot

Russell Crowe and Henry Cavill will see each other again soon, as they are now both set to appear in the Highlander reboot directed by Chad Stahelski. The pair will likely also have likely have significantly more screen time together than they did on the Superman film.

Cavill has been on board to play the lead character, a Scottish immortal who was named Conor Macleod in the original 1985 movie. Crowe has signed on to play Macloud’s mentor, who was played by Sean Connery in the original movie. Dave Bautista was previously on board the reboot to play the villain, but that was so long ago at this point it’s unclear if he’s still attached.

Highlander is expected to begin filming later this year, so Henry Cavill and his old friend Russell Crowe will see each other again soon. If Crowe has gained any more insight into working as an actor, I’m sure Cavill will be happy to hear it.

We are less than a month away from James Gunn’s Superman hitting the 2025 movie release schedule, and yet the “fandom” is still arguing as if we are at the beginning of another Supes casting cycle. This week, a new wave of online discourse took off and took no prisoners when fans reignited the age-old debate: muscle suit or no muscle suit? Somebody pass me the popcorn in my movie-themed popcorn bucket.

The latest round was sparked by the X (formerly Twitter) fan account @NOCsuperman, who shared a collage of Superman actors, which you can see embedded below, and posed the question: MUSCLE SUITS or NO MUSCLE SUIT? The post, featuring images of Henry Cavill, Christopher Reeve, Tyler Hoechlin, and David Corenswet, has racked up over 1.7 million views and counting.

The replies are, of course, delightful, and took flight. From diehard Henry Cavill and Zack Snyderverse stans to defenders of the OG Reeve, the comment section quickly turned into a superhero-themed Thunderdome.

One user, @angelus1755, argued that “Cavill is built like a statue” and never needed a suit, while another pointed out that Reeve made audiences believe a man could fly without looking like he benched a pickup truck. Others, like @MidtownMysterio, posting a side-by-side of Dwayne Johnson’s turn in Black Adam, offered a third option:

No moment got more traction than the swarm of users posting shirtless Cavill GIFs from Man of Steel in response to claims he wore a muscle suit. Multiple commenters clapped back with photos, videos, and even behind-the-scenes footage of Cavill’s grueling workouts. "Cavill was not a muscle suit," one fan insisted. "He was the muscle."

No matter how you rank the best Superman costumes, or whether you're team practical muscle or team actor-first, the conversation around Superman's look isn't slowing down, especially with the upcoming DC Movie and latest iteration of the Man of Steel gearing up for release. David Corenswet’s new take on the iconic suit has already divided fans, and with the new superhero movie releasing on July 8, the costume discourse is likely just getting started.

Until then, keep the popcorn close and the takes hot. Because when it comes to Big Blue, even a thread about spandex can become kryptonite for peace on the timeline.

While there was a time when Henry Cavill’s upcoming movies and TV shows included playing Superman for the DCEU and Geralt of Rivia in one of Netflix’s most-watched shows, The Witcher, times have changed for the actor. Cavill is no longer playing either of those beloved characters, but he does continue to hype up his Warhammer 40,000 streaming TV show.

It was announced all the way back in 2022 that Cavill would be making a Warhammer 40,000 show with Amazon Studios after being a fan of the miniature wargame for three decades. As the Man Of Steel actor still chips away at making his adaptation of the popular game he said this to Esquire:

While we haven’t heard much from Henry Cavill in the year 2025, his latest update says it all. He’s very immersed in making his Warhammer 40,000 show the best it can be, and is very focused on making something he and other fans of the property can be proud of.

And as Cavill shared with the magazine, the project is “different” from other things he’s been part of before because he has a lot more creative control than he ever has. He makes it clear he’s been enjoying being behind the scenes on it, challenges and all, likely because he already has such a passion for the whole thing.

While Henry Cavill has certainly been an actor for hire before, the 42-year-old is joining a growing league of actors looking for their own stamp on the projects they put their face on. While the project seems to still be in the development phase, Cavill has been working on it with his partner Natalie Viscuso, whom he had his first child with just a little over a year ago. His last update on the project was vague, but in December 2024 he confirmed that he and his team had “agreed upon” a “fantastic place to start” in the Warhammer universe.

After the actor’s journey with Superman and The Witcher being cut short, it’s great to hear the actor is doing something from the heart. Warhammer 40,000 isn’t all though. He’s also expected to lead a Voltron show and is already attached to a new version of Highlander. No, the actor’s name isn’t on any of the upcoming 2025 movies, but it sounds like he has a good feeling about what’s next.

Ok, confession time: I’ve never seen any of the Highlander movies. I know that’s a weird thing to share considering the headline of this article, but because I’m a fan of Henry Cavill and director Chad Stahlski, I am looking forward to diving into this mythology for the first time with their Highlander reboot. At the same time, though, I do understand the reason that’s being reported on regarding why said reboot was shifted from Lionsgate over to Amazon.

For years, Lionsgate had planned to add Highlander to its staple of big franchises, which includes John Wick (which Stahelski has spearheaded), The Hunger Games and Saw. However, last month, word came in that the reboot that Amazon MGM Studios had acquired the reboot. According to The Wrap, there were three reasons why Lionsgate decided to let go of the new Highlander: budget, audience and Cavill himself.

Per the report, Chad Stahelski wanted a $180 million budget for the upcoming movie, but Lionsgate wasn’t willing to go any higher than $165 million. The studio was also reportedly “worried” that Highlander was a “one-quadrant movie” for Gen X males who remembered the 1986 original fondly. Finally, the article says Lionsgate was “slightly concerned” about delivering a movie with Henry Cavill as the lead given that The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which came from the same studio, and Apple Films’ Argylle were both commercial flops last year.

Given that Lionsgate is one of the smaller film studios, I can understand the powers-that-be over there deciding that they didn’t want to pour resources into the project anymore. Even ignoring Cavill’s poor luck at the box office lately, $180 million, and frankly even $165 million, is a hefty asking price for restarting a property that doesn’t have nearly the amount of cache it didn’t in the ‘80s. Also, let’s not forget that none of the Highlander sequels performed nearly as well as the first movie, although the live-action TV series did fare better critically.

Now Amazon MGM Studios is taking the reims on Highlander, allowing Chad Stahelski to still fulfill his creative vision with Henry Cavill rather than see it shelved. This is the third film adaptation of an IP from the ‘80s that Amazon has coming up, the other two being next year’s Masters of the Universe and Voltron, which also stars Cavill. But as The Wrap notes, movies based off ‘80s IP in recent years have been hit or miss, so my fingers are crossed Highlander ends up being one of the former.

Highlander still doesn’t have a release date attached. However, Chad Stahelski informed Collider earlier this month, the reboot could begin filming in September, putting it o track for release sometime in 2027 or 2028.

One of the biggest questions that's been asked in Hollywood as of late is: who will be the next James Bond? Since Daniel Craig confirmed he was done with the role, the fan debates and the odds makers have been discussing the question. With all of the upheaval surrounding the James Bond franchise, it seems that there may not have been much official discussion yet regarding who might be the new Bond, but one expert thinks there’s a very good reason why Henry Cavill may have the inside track.

Author Mark O’Connell is something of a Bond expert, having written books about the character in the past. Speaking with the New York Post, he suggests that Cavill is the man to beat for the role for the simple reason that he almost landed the role once already. It’s something of a tradition for actors who are passed over once to get cast the next time around. He said…

This is certainly true as far as it goes. Pierce Brosnan also belongs on the “second time’s a charm list.” He was all set to take the role after Roger Moore stepped down, only to have to drop out due to other commitments. While that may have ended his chances to ever play a different role, it simply came back to him later when he was available.

Director Martin Campbell, who helmed Casino Royale and was part of the team that chose Daniel Craig, has spoken about how close Henry Cavill was to be cast back years ago. It’s difficult to imagine that he isn’t a major contender for the role right now.

That said, it should be pointed out that there’s a major reason that previous patterns may not play out this time around. All previous James Bonds were chosen by Eon Productions, first overseen by producer Albert R. Broccoli, and then by his daughter, Barbara. Now, Amazon MGM Studios has complete creative control over the franchise. While Eon, who is still involved, might very well lean toward the actor it didn’t pick last time, if Amazon doesn’t agree, it’s not happening.

The next James Bond movie is in the works, though it's in its earliest stages. There isn’t a script yet, as far as we know, and it seems unlikely that any casting will be discussed until all parties involved have figured out just what sort of Bond movie is being made. Maybe Henry Cavill, who was deemed too young to play Bond last time around, will be too old by the time they get around to actually filming.

Filming for the long-awaited live-action adaptation of the 1980s cartoon Voltron finally started late last year. While we don’t have a release date yet, we do know Voltron has a star-studded cast that includes Henry Cavill, Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora, Alba Baptista, and more. It hasn’t been revealed who each is playing, but I have some thoughts on this and about a whole lot more, as the afternoon cartoon holds a special place in my Gen X heart.

It All Started In St. Louis

I grew up in St. Louis, and while I didn’t realize it at the time, the whole reason we have Voltron at all is because of a TV exec in St. Louis named Ted Kopler. Kopler owned a TV station in St. Louis known as KPLR (get it?). In the 1980s, legend has it that in order to develop programming his young kids would enjoy, he struck on the idea of buying foreign kids’ shows and repackage them in the United States.

In a fluke accident, after Koplar discovered three Japanese anime at a trade show, he ordered copies of each, but one called Beast King GoLion was sent by mistake and Kopler loved it. When repacked with an English audio track and some editing, it became Voltron: Defender Of The Universe.

We St. Louisans are a proud bunch and let’s be honest, we don’t always get the best national press. So this one is ours. It came from a little TV station in the Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis and grew into a worldwide franchise. The upcoming live-action adaptation is the most recent, and most exciting, development yet.

We’re Getting New Characters

In addition to the cast, we also know the new movie will feature a “new generation of pilots,” per Deadline. As much as I'd love to see the original characters, there are still ways to bring their story into the film.

As is often the case with Japanese anime adaptations, the original story from Beast King GoLion was considerably more adult-oriented. Characters were killed, others were enslaved, and some dealt with drug addiction. I understand why most of those elements were removed from Voltron—it was an afternoon cartoon for kids, after all. A live-action adaptation is the perfect opportunity to add some of those darker moments, giving the characters new and, frankly, more interesting motivations.

One character, Sven, became playground legend when he was injured on the show and basically disappeared from the show. His fate was a hot topic of debate between kickball at bats, but in the end, he was just nursing an injury. His backstory in Beast King GoLion included losing his rank as the team leader due to his drug use.

Sterling K. Brown, who’s Hulu show Paradise just finished Season 1, and is available to stream in full on Hulu and Disney+, would be perfect as a character that incorporates some of that backstory. Sven is a complicated character in the original Beast King GoLion and while some of his darker backstory, including the drug use, was rewritten for Voltron, it’s still a heavy role, the kind Brown excels at.

It All Comes Full Circle

One of the coolest things about this adaptation for me as a St. Louisan is that not only is St. Louis native Sterling K. Brown one of the stars, but one of the producers listed on the upcoming sci-fi movie is Bob Kopler. He is the son of the late Ted Kopler, the man ultimately responsible for bringing Voltron to the world. Now that shooting has officially kicked off, St. Louis stands by, ready for Voltron to once again defend the universe.

Whoever was in charge of Reacher’s casting at Amazon-MGM Studios should get a raise every season. I don’t think fans watching the third season play out admist the 2025 TV schedule would disagree, especially since it’s a consistent excuse to stare at the baffling perfection that is Alan Ritchson's impressive physique.

But instead of merely wondering how the Titans vet isn’t one of ILM’s finest creations, the viewing public is very much invested in the "plot" for Reacher’s latest official clip to hit the internet. Someone even made a Henry Cavill comparison that actually makes a lot of sense.

That Shirtless Reacher Clip Sure Has Inspired Some Strong Feelings

I think we can all admit you clicked into this story for one thing, regardless of whether or not your Prime Video subscription is current: you wanted to see Alan Ritchson's shirtless Reacher footage. No shame in that game, and I’m about to deliver on that. But if you’re not looking to get your heart pumping too hard in the morning, it must be said that the man-mountain that is Mr. Ritchson is also pants-free in the clip below:

It's no doubt a natural law that Alan Ritchson is so physically impressive that even those who aren't attracted to him have to admire the work he’s put into his physique. Not to mention, if you’re a dyed-in-the-wool stan of this Prime Video series, Reacher’s running joke about gym time is an even greater laugh as the actor bulks up even more from year to year.

Seriously, the more someone looks at Alan Ritchson, the more they’re probably looking for the line where the human suit zips up. And if you thought that was the extent of the unhinged thoughts from the crowd, there’s one comparison I hadn’t thought to make - but continues to paint the man in an impressive light. Apologies to anyone who shares Mr. Ritchson's lack of sleep after the example we're about to discuss.

Henry Cavill’s Appearance With Alan Ritchson In The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare Brings Up Something Interesting

I’ll admit that even after covering The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare review, I almost forgot that Ritchson co-starred with fellow beefcake Henry Cavill in the World War II thrill ride. Sure enough people who watch the man’s career with a keen eye remembered that fact much quicker, especially with the insight commenter “andreea.readss” provided.

As if people didn’t already have the image of Alan Ritchson towering over them in a friendly manner embedded in their heads, there’s now a new scenario to dream about. Already you’re probably picturing The Witcher and Man of Steel vet standing in front of you. And what's that massive shadow suddenly darkening the view? It's just Reacher’s leading man.

It is worth noting that Alan Ritchson’s series is in the midst of its third season, and with a fourth already greenlit for the near future. Considering that same platform is where Henry Cavill’s Voltron movie is set up, as well as his Warhammer 40K adaptation, it could be a battle of the beefcakes fighting for viewers' attention.

As I keep telling my friends, family, and local government officials, through the Multiverse, all things are possible. While that mythical story element has been mentioned briefly on the 2025 movie schedule, we haven’t yet jumped headfirst back into that MCU brand of madness. That hasn’t stopped Ryan Reynolds, though, as his experiences on Deadpool & Wolverine and the Will Ferrell-led Spirited have collided in one single image.

Now, this photo I'm referring to is of Ferrell looking positively feral and ready for an upcoming Marvel movie that hasn’t been invented yet. It's honestly hysterical, and it's also giving big Cavillrine vibes...

I know what you’re thinking: how could the Saturday Night Live veteran possibly compare to Henry Cavill's variant we have come to know as “Cavillrine?” Well, feast your eyes on the rendering Mr. Reynolds shared to his Instagram account, and then let’s talk that out a little more:

While this is a ruggedly hysterical look at something that isn’t available with a Disney+ subscription, I can already hear the voice Will Ferrell uses for Ron Burgundy growling out of this Wolverine variant. Just imagine an X-Men movie where Logan keeps misinforming the team of the behaviors of wildlife, only to get mauled by a bear for five solid, scream-filled minutes.

At the same time, the vibes are definitely similar to that of Henry Cavill’s Deadpool & Wolverine version of Len Wein and John Romita Sr.’s iconic co-creation. Just because “The Ferrellrine” invokes memories of the funniest Will Ferrell movies, the comedy legend’s darker side does shine through in this mockup.

So, while I can have a good laugh at this hypothetical addition to the MCU, I still wouldn’t want to fight him once the claws popped. At the same time, as we've seen in the vastly underrated Stranger Than Fiction, the emotions and guilt that come with this character wouldn't be too much of a stretch for Mr. Ferrell.

Of course, there’s one angle we’ve overlooked here, and it comes down to the comedy institution known as the Ryan Reynolds/Hugh Jackman “feud.” Mr. Reynolds might be playfully teasing his sparring partner, who’s tagged in the image, that there are plenty of other claws in the woods. So if the Australian acting powerhouse doesn’t want to play the role until he’s 90, that’s no problem.

It’s just a bit of fun that we can all get when theorizing the truth behind this post-Deadpool & Wolverine ribbing. With the road to the eventual MCU X-Men movie seeming to be in play, jokes like these are good distractions from trying to figure out who will be the next Canadian ass kicker, and what the rest of the team will look like.

Though I will close with this final thought on the matter: if James Marsden wants to pitch a Cyclops/Wolverine team-up with Will Ferrell’s variant, I’d buy a ticket the moment it got the greenlight.

Marvel Studios allegedly just paused development on several anticipated TV projects, including Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror Inc. While these shows hadn’t actually been publicly announced or put on the official list of upcoming Marvel TV shows, according to recent reports, the shows may have been further along than we thought. This decision might disappoint fans eager to see these adaptations, but it aligns with the studio's shift towards prioritizing quality over quantity in its content production and it might even have a Henry Cavil-related silver lining.

Marvel Scraps Nova and Other Anticipated Shows

Nova, in particular, generated significant buzz, especially on Reddit, partly due to rumors suggesting that Henry Cavill might take on the titular role. Though never officially confirmed, this speculation fueled excitement about the Man of Steel actor’s potential entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with an upcoming Marvel movie or show. Unfortunately, that picture is currently TBD on when we’ll finally see the finished product, so we’ll have to wait a little longer. It’s a mindset I’m used to, as we’re also currently waiting on further news for James Bond 26.

So imagine my surprise when the perfect storm of both subjects arrived on the internet, as it appears that Cavill’s James Bond audition has leaked. And you know we need to talk about what’s been seen in this short, but pretty sweet look at what Casino Royale could have looked like.

Several Casino Royale Auditions Ended Up On YouTube, And Henry Cavill Aces It

I’m still wondering how YouTube user “Ron Smith” got their hands on not only Cavill’s supposed audition, but three other tapes of actors auditioning for what would be the start of Daniel Craig’s James Bond. Myself and others shared the same fears when seeing a reel of the Man of Steel star testing with a scene from Pierce Brosnan’s debut Bond flick, Goldeneye.

While it’s not entirely certain, as I’m no expert in AI deepfakes, this video does appear to be legit. Considering Martin Campbell’s reasons for not casting Cavill were his relative inexperience and the existence of Daniel Craig, I have to say that this supposed time capsule from 2005 is vastly impressive.

Even in his rough around the edges form, wearing a leather jacket and a very un-007 haircut, Henry Cavill works past some obvious nerves and rises to the occasion when recreating Brosnan’s introduction to Famke Janssen’s Xenia Onatopp. In fact, watching this supposedly leaked footage has me thinking about Bond 26’s future yet again, and I have some ideas on where the future of the series should go from here.

We Do Need A Long Term James Bond, But We Don’t Need A Younger 007

The flurry of talk surrounding what the next James Bond should be like continues to center around the subject of youth. Recently, a major 007 tone shift has been suggested in order to lure younger audiences. That’s something I can somewhat agree on, as the pendulum of this franchise’s history has always swung between pulpy espionage faithful to Ian Fleming’s vision and looser, campier entries.

However, I don’t think Henry Cavill should be counted out just yet. While he’s just barely aged out of the new 007’s “30-something” age bracket supposedly being considered, this audition that put The Man From U.N.C.L.E. star into Casino Royale’s runner-up slot shows that Cavill truly understands the material. With the ability to play camp or cruelty in equal measure, I don’t think we need to go younger to get crowds back to Bond.

Rather, we need a familiar face that can handle the mantle of 007, which only further convinces me that this franchise’s history of previously considered prospects land the role the second time around is a valid practice. We saw this most notably after Pierce Brosnan’s near casting in The Living Daylights eventually allowed him to slip into the tuxedo for Goldeneye. Imagine what Henry Cavill’s audition for Bond 26 would look like with his current skill set?

Cavill’s potential casting could navigate the difficult tonal waters ahead, which coincidentally is also another advantage Brosnan had when he played the character. But more importantly, having a face like Henry Cavill on board could also help repair the allegedly tense relationship between Amazon and Barbara Broccoli.

With a recognizable actor who has a healthy fan base, while also not being too famous, a quantum of solace that puts the series back on the rails could be achieved... that is, if this Henry Cavill footage is in fact legit. Should it somehow be debunked in the future to come, I'll simultaneously curse and congratulate whatever mastermind may have been behind it.

There are long-running movie properties, and then there's the 007 movies. Generations of fans have grown up watching the James Bond movies in order, and the franchise continues to be wildly popular. Ever since the ending of No Time To Die hit theaters and ended Daniel Craig's tenure as the MI6 agent, there's been on-stop chatter about who might take on the role of Bond next. There's been much debate about the next James Bond, with fans putting forth a number of actors' names. Somebody cue the 007 theme song! Honestly this poster gives me serious FOMO, because I can only imagine how awesome a James Bond movie starring Cavill and Robbie could be. Unfortunately this seems unlikely, regardless of how awesome the Superman alum looks as everyone's favorite secret agent.

Back in 2022, it was reported that the folks at Eon Productions were looking for an actor in his '30s to take over as Bond. Given the years-long time commitment and the extremely physical nature of the role, this does make sense. But that would also seemingly exclude fan favorite choices like Henry Cavill. After all, he's currently 41 years old at the time of writing this story.

Daniel Craig sustained a number of injuries during his tenure as James Bond, so casting a younger actor for a years-long gig makes sense. Cavill famously auditioned for the role before, so it's clear that he'd be a great choice. Luckily he got to flex those muscles (literally) opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible - Fallout (which is streaming with a Paramount+ subscription).

There is constant chatter about who might be the next James Bond, and join that iconic pedigree of past actors. Another wildly popular choice online is English actor Aaron-Taylor Johnson, who is jacked, the perfect age, and has a ton of action experience thanks to projects like Kick-Ass, Kraven the Hunter, and Bullet Train. But the timeline regarding when Eon Productions will pick a new 007 remains unclear.

Of course, Henry Cavill has also had plenty of action experience during his career, especially his roles in The Witcher (which is streaming with a Netflix subscription) and his tenure as Superman in the DCEU. While Cavill returned to the role in Black Adam, the shared universe got the axe in favor of an entirely new franchise.

Between the popular Witcher video game series and the The Witcher TV series, available with a Netflix subscription, the original novels by author Andrzej Sapkowski are more popular than ever. The newest book, a prequel to the series, was recently published in Polish, and with it comes confirmation of a major fan question. Just how old is Geralt of Rivia?

The newest Witcher book confirms the year that Geralt of Rivia was born, which, would make him about 38 years old when he first meets Yennifer of Vengerberg. Of course the thing that really has fans blown away is that by this date, Yennifer herself was quite a bit older when the two first met.

The Age Gap Between Geralt and Yennifer Is Bigger Than Most Fans Guessed, And In The Wrong Direction

The Witcher stories take place over decades, but considering that Geralt of Rivia is a mutant Witcher and Yennifer of Vengerberg is a wizard, it’s essentially impossible to gauge either of their ages based solely on how they look. It turns out that when Geralt and Yennifer first met, Geralt was 38, and Yennifer was twice that age, as she’s 38 years older than he is.

While it seems all the Witcher fans on Reddit had different estimations for just how old the various characters were, many seemed to guess that, if anything Geralt was a lot older than he actually is. The fact that Yennifer is so much older than Geralt, as a lot of fans making jokes about the Witcher and older women.

Some fans thought Geralt was a lot older than he apparently is. Others at least assumed that Yennifer wasn't quite as old as she is. In the books it's well established that wizards can halt their aging, so it's impossible to guess how old one actually is.

The Netflix Series Flipped The Ages

Since The original novels had not previously set a date for Geralt’s birth, the various adaptations of the work had to make their own determinations. As a result, the Netflix series inverted the chronology almost exactly, as Geralt is 32 years older than Yennifer in the series. The popular video game series essentially has them the same age, with Geralt just a year older than Yenn.

Of course, the ages aren't the only difference between the source material and the series. The Netflix Witcher has been criticized previously for the way it differs from the books.

Things will get even more confusing when The Witcher Season 4 debuts next year. Liam Hemsworth who is taking on the role of Geralt, is seven years younger than Henry Cavill, who played the role for the show’s first three years.

It's no secret that comic book projects are everywhere, with a number of shared universes competing at the box office. Getting this type of love and compliments from Henry Cavill was no doubt affirming for Liu, who was clearly a big fan of the 41 year-old actor. But that's not the only way that Cavill made his day. As Shang-Chi himself continued:

Ever since seeing Shang-Chi's credits scenes, fans have been wondering when Simu Liu might pop up in an upcoming Marvel movie. There's been no real news on that front, although fans are assuming he'll factor into Avengers: Doomsday. And as the Barbie actor's star power continues to grow, I wonder if the roles will reverse and he'll make the day of another up-and-coming actor just like Cavill did.

Usually, when an actor or creator is passionate about the project they’re working on, the end result benefits. We’ve seen this when Ryan Reynolds got to finally make Deadpool after those leaks or right now, with Ariana Grande playing her dream role, Glinda, in Wicked. Henry Cavill is a noted fan of Warhammer, so fans should get excited (and also get a Prime Video subscription) because the long-in-development Warhammer TV series is finally moving forward. With that, Cavill shared a sweet message, that has me hyped.

It was almost exactly two years ago when it was first announced that Henry Cavill was attached to the Warhammer series as a star and producer for Prime Video. Since that announcement, however, little had been said. There were even fears the rights might lapse without an agreement being made on what to do with the IP. However, today, Henry Cavill took to Instagram to announce that all parties are now on board a Warhammer project. Cavill wrote in part…

Cavill is intentionally mum on specifics, so the place where the universe will start is not being revealed. However, the plan was for the A-lister's project to be some sort of cinematic universe, as the Warhammer franchise is quite vast and includes elements of both fantasy and science fiction in the same world set thousands of years apart.

Accompanying the Man of Steel alum’s announcement was an image of the actor outside a game shop in Jersey, which he says was the first place he ever purchased Warhammer models. Clearly, Cavill is as excited as anybody that this project is moving forward, and his enthusiasm bodes well for the passion that will be put into this production. Check out his full post below.

One hopes that, as a producer as well as a star, Cavill will be able to make a Warhammer series that is as faithful to the source material as he, and everybody else involved, likely wants it to be. Meanwhile, Warhammer is far from Henry Cavill’s only major upcoming project. He’s set to go in front of cameras next year to start filming Chad Stahelski’s Highlander reboot and he’s also set to star in another Prime Video's Voltron adaptation.

It’s December which means for a lot of us it’s the season of holiday traditions. If you’re a celebrity who is friends with Tom Cruise or has worked with him in the past, that means it’s time for the annual and legendary Tom Cruise Christmas cake. It seems like everybody who gets this cake loves it, but one of the actor's former co-stars, Henry Cavil, apparently almost didn’t eat it when he first got it.

Many have told the story of the Tom Cruise Christmas cake. It's a particular coconut cake that he has apparently been sending to colleagues for years. Many of those who get it, like Glen Powell, make an event of eating it. However, when Henry Cavill first got it, that he originally ignored it because he assumed, coming from Tom Cruise, that it would be some sort of healthy cake. He explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live:

It wasn’t until a friend of Cavill’s came over and asked about the cake that he actually made a point to open the box and actually see what was inside it. Once that happened, however, the actor was all over it. He continued…

While Cavill’s character may have something in common with characters he has played before, the director says he sold the star on the role by promising he would do more on screen than he, or most other actors, had done before. From the moment it was confirmed that Chad Stahelski was taking on the directing role for Highlander, we knew that action would be a key part of the new film. This description alone is incredibly exciting, as it teases a character who has trained in various fighting styles over the centuries, so we’ll see him use different ones depending on where in the story we’re set. One assumes by the end, he’s even combined these styles into something new.

This opens up some really interesting possibilities when it comes to action sequences. This will certainly mean some extensive training for Cavill. We've seen the work that Keanu Reeves has done to train for John Wick, and it looks like Cavill will need to train in multiple martial arts styles and, of course, with a sword, to get ready for Highlander

While details about Highlander, including how closely it will stay to the plot of the original, are largely unknown, it’s clear that Stahelski is planning for a franchise, so it’s possible that we won’t see all of this in the first movie. One of the big reasons that a Highlander reboot makes sense is that the original movie clearly never expected to need sequels, which led to the story having to bend over backwards to justify them. A fresh take won't be tied down by all the previous baggage.

Multiple Highlander movies could be set over literally centuries as Cavill’s character lives multiple lives, learning, fighting and experiencing multiple historical eras. That would certainly be quite the character arc.
Stahelski says he hopes to begin filming Highlander in the spring of 2025, which means we’ll likely see the movie sometime in 2026.

Based on Henry Cavill’s best movies, he’s clearly leading man material. He’s donned the blue and red cape playing Clark Kent/Superman in the DC movies, portrayed CIA agent Napoleon Solo in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and brought Geralt of Rivia to life on The Witcher. Through many of Cavill's roles, audiences also see him being smooth and with the ladies. Well, apparently, the British actor has a specific approach when interacting with women in his own life. Cavill’s frequent director, Guy Ritchie, once told a story about how the Tudors star is “consistent” in how he treats women, and it couldn’t make me love him more.

Ironically, Guy Ritchie's films center on males, but they're anything but gentlemanly. For instance, The Gentlemen, a crime thriller from Ritchie, sees drug dealers and gangsters participate in shifty business dealings. And, in the Sherlock Holmes movies, Holmes and Watson go against the prim and proper Victorian ideals with their unpredictable, rebellious approach to solving mysteries. Then, there’s Ritchie’s new movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which sees Cavill play the leader of a secret British organization that uses unconventional methods to fight the Nazis.

Even if the Argylle star didn’t portray the refined “gentleman” in some of Guy Ritchie’s movies, the Justice League actor is apparently very chivalrous with the ladies in real life. While Ritchie and the actor himself talked to THR for an interview that was shared to TikTok, the talented director spoke highly of his colleague and named a specific habit that he practices when around a person of the opposite sex:

That is such a gentlemanly thing to do when a woman walks into a room! It shows that a person is willing to be respectful and draw attention to her. That's just another reason why Henry Cavill is a total catch. However, he's taken, ladies, as he's with Hollywood executive Natalie Viscuso. Henry Cavill and Viscuso went public with their relationship back in April 2021 and, earlier in 2024, Cavill announced they were expecting their first child together.

While the A-lister and Natalie Viscuso prefer privacy in their relationship, there’s been some cute documented moments on social media like when they cooked a delicious-looking home-cooked meal for the actor’s birthday. Plus, the happy couple will be working on the Warhammer 40,000 franchise, of which the actor is a fan.

As for how Henry Cavill became a real-life prince with women, you can thank his mom for that. Back in 2021, the Mission: Impossible—Fallout actor posted on International Women’s Day. He shared endearing words to describe his mother and credited her as the woman who taught him “what it is to be a good man.” You know a guy with an exceptional relationship with his mother is a keeper.

Henry Cavill has been very open about his previous auditions for James Bond over the years and remains diplomatic about playing 007 as the upcoming Bond 26 lies on the horizon. Though he may have aged out of the role, he has certainly not aged out of action or playing spies. Nor do I think he should be letting the idea go, as the recent film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare proves.

I recently caught The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare streaming on Starz, and it’s a fun movie. It has a really great opening sequence, solid action throughout, and an unusual premise. While I don’t think the plot is the best of all of Guy Ritchie’s movies, Henry Cavill is just chewing through scenes like he’s eating a big, meaty steak. That, coupled with his absolutely ridiculous Ministry mustache, was enough to make me want to see him play Gus March-Phillips again and again. And probably again.

This Is The Third Time Henry Cavill Has Played A Spy Lately, And My Favorite To Date

Henry Cavill is great at playing a spy. He does a good job with Armie Hammer in Guy Ritchie’s completely underrated Man From U.N.C.L.E., but that movie went nowhere at the box office. To that point, when Ritchie was told people love U.N.C.L.E, he had no freaking idea that people were all over Cavill’s performance. He was tickled pink, and admitted he loves the movie, but any possible sequel is probably off the table now.

Last year, Cavill also appeared as a (sort of) spy in Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle, which does get a little silly, but also has an underrated twist that makes for a fun ride. If you’ve seen the movie, for obvious reasons, this isn’t the franchise to launch Cavill’s spy dreams.

Yet, shortly after Argylle’s release, DC’s former Superman starred in another Guy Ritchie movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. It’s a WWII-era spy movie with a charming cast. Henry Cavill brought back an even better ‘stache than the viral one he’d worn in Mission: Impossible - Fallout that launched an entire Justice League controversy. And to boot, he has Reacher star Alan Ritchson at his side absolutely dominating action sequences. Honestly, there’s just so much you can do with this moving forward it would seem like a no brainer to make another.

Will Henry Cavill Get The Spy Franchise He Deserves?

The whole thing makes me think a little of Goldilocks. Man From U.N.C.L.E. didn’t pan out into a franchise due to box office and Armie Hammer-related reasons; like the porridge, it was just “too hot.” Argylle reviews were fine, but the movie had a third act not everyone gelled with; it was just “too cold.” But Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare works for me from a movie standpoint. The only real misstep is its budget needed to be lower; if it catches on, they could get it “just right” in a second round.

Unfortunately, there is that elephant in the room. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare only made $26 million at the box office globally on an alleged $60 million budget. If the movie has had a considerably solid run on streaming, there may be reason to bring it back for more, but that's a big if, given the movie didn't make enough in theaters to justify its budget. Still, I can't say enough positive things about the period special forces team up movie. With a little honing and new scripts, there's a lot the studio could do with the idea.

Personally, I can’t think of a truly bad movie Guy Ritchie has ever made. But since he consistently hits in the 3.5/5 realm and doesn’t spend hundreds of millions to make his movies, they often quietly come and go with people not talking about them all that much in the moment. I think it’s a damn shame, because Cavill + Eiza Gonzalez+ Alan Ritchson is a winning combo, and Alex Pettyfer and Henry Golding were smart adds to boot. I’d like to see the gang get another fun adventure to go on, but most importantly, I’d like to see Henry Cavill get that spy franchise he so obviously deserves.

Superhero fans are witnessing the dawn of a new era, as DC Studios prepares to launch the DCU continuity. With that comes new takes on beloved characters as well as the introduction of power players who’ve yet to have the spotlight. Beloved Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane will once again take center stage via James Gunn’s Superman, though she’ll be played by Rachel Brosnahan this time around. Ahead of her debut, veteran Lois actress Amy Adams shared her take on Brosnahan playing the role while reflecting on Henry Cavill’s Supes performance.

The Oscar nominee is currently promoting her new 2024 movie schedule release Nightbitch and, while doing so, she recently took some time to reflect on the DC Extended Universe. More specifically, she discussed the legacy of her Man of Steel co-star, Henry Cavill, who famously played Clark Kent. The Nocturnal Animals alum had nothing but kind words to share for Cavill when reflecting on his turn as the noble and powerful hero:

While the films that Henry Cavill’s Supes appeared in received mixed to negative reviews, his performances were usually received with great positivity. Even now, the British actor’s turn as Clark Kent is well regarded by fans. It’s lovely to see Amy Adams giving her colleague his flowers for the work he did. The actress has long hyped up Cavill’s work as the DC hero. Adams even shared positive thoughts when it was announced in 2022 that Cavill would play Superman in the DCEU again, before plans changed.

On that note, David Corenwswet is playing the DCU’s Man of Steel alongside Rachel Brosnahan Lois, and they’ll be seen when their inaugural film opens as part of the 2025 movie schedule. As Amy Adams mentioned during her interview with Variety, she offers “luck” to every star who puts on that cape. Adams spoke about Brosnahan a bit more specifically, though, and her thoughts were sweet:

Like the American Hustle star, I can’t wait to see what Rachel Brosnahan brings to the role of the beloved journalist. The Enchanted icon isn’t the only Lois actress who’s shown love to the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star either. Superman & Lois’ Elizabeth Tulloch also wished Brosnahan well while sending positive vibes to her, James Gunn and David Corenswet. Needless to say, it would appear that Brosnahan has some big names in her corner as she steps into Lane’s shoes.

It’s exciting to think what the future holds for Lois Lane but, of course, we shouldn’t forget the contributions that Amy Adams (as well as Elizabeth Tulloch and others) have made to the character over the years. What makes me smile is that Adams is not only excited for her predecessor but also remains high on the work Henry Cavill did. Hopefully, fans will only continue to look back on Adams’ DCEU tenure in positive ways.
