While there have been a great number of Hollywood stars that never made it to 40, there are just as many, if not more, famous actors and entertainers that lived longer than 90 years. In fact, several eclipsed the century mark before crossing over into the great unknown. These titans of the movie industry, actors and directors behind Best Picture winners, and staples of the small screen all have one thing in common, besides being beloved by millions, their longevity.

Here are 32 Hollywood stars that lived to be more than 90. 

Sean Connery

Sean Connery, the iconic actor best known for playing James Bond in several of the best 007 movies, lived to the age of 90 years, two months, and six days before passing away on Halloween in 2020. Upon his death, the BBC said he left behind a tremendous body of work and a vacancy for the title of “Greatest Living Scot.”

Betty White 

Trailblazing comedian and cherished American treasure Betty White passed away on December 31, 2021, just a few weeks before the Golden Girls star and recurring guest on The Carol Burnett Show would have turned 100, per CNN. In her 99 years on the Earth, White lived life to the fullest to say the very least.

Carl Reiner

Carl Reiner, one of the most well-known and successful names in all of show business, lived to the age of 98 before dying in June 2020, leaving behind a massive body of work stretching decades, according to the New York Times. From creating shows like The Dick Van Dyke Show to a long-lasting partnership with Mel Brooks to stealing scenes in the Ocean’s movies, he had quite a legacy.

Cicely Tyson 

Cicely Tyson, the dynamic actress that won a Tony, multiple Emmys, an honorary Oscar, and dozens of other accolades, was 96 years old when she died in January 2021, according to the New York Times. Over the course of a seven-decade career, Tyson gave commanding performances in film, television, and on Broadway.

Tony Bennett

Though known mostly for his decades-long music career that saw him earn countless awards, honors, and other accolades, Tony Benett made several film and TV appearances throughout his life. Sadly, the legendary crooner passed away at the age of 98 in July 2023, per the New York Times.

Kirk Douglas

Kirk Douglas, the star of classics like Paths of Glory, The Bad and the Beautiful, and most famously, Spartacus, passed away in February 2020, per the New York Times. The Hollywood star lived to the age of 103. 

Mickey Rooney

One of the brilliant Hollywood stars lost in 2014, Mickey Rooney was 93 years old at the time of his death, which marked the end to one of the most prolific and tumultuous careers in all of show business, according to the New York Times. Throughout his 88-year career, Rooney appeared in more than 300 movies and reinvented himself time and time again.

Katharine Hepburn

Katharine Hepburn, who won a record four Academy Awards throughout her career, and was 96 years old at the time of her death in June 2003. At that time, the Washington Post described her as an actress of breathtaking talent and unsurpassed durability. 

Sidney Poitier 

Trailblazing actor Sidney Poitier, who became the first Black performer to win an Oscar for Best Actor, lived to the age of 94 years old before passing away in June 2022, per the New York Times. Throughout his career, Poitier appeared in films like Lillies of the Field, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, and In the Heat of the Night to name only a few. Several of Poitier’s best movies could also be considered touchstones of American cinema.

Bob Hope

After spending decades entertaining millions upon millions with his various Broadway, radio, television, and movies, not to mention his tireless efforts bringing laughter to troops stationed around the world, Bob Hope passed away in July 2003. According to the Los Angeles Times, the later entertainer was 100 years old at the time of his passing.

Gloria Stuart

Gloria Stuart, the older Rose from James Cameron’s 1997 romantic epic, Titanic, passed away in July 2010. According to the Los Angeles Times, the veteran actress died just two days after her 100th birthday.

Zsa Zsa Gabor 

Hollywood legend Zsa Zsa Gabor, known for her work in For the First Time, Moulin Rouge, Lovely to Look At, We’re Not Married, and dozens upon dozens of other projects, passed away in December 2016. According to Variety, the actress, who dazzled on the silver screen for 60 years, was 99 years old at the time of her death.

Angela Lansbury

Angela Lansbury, best known for starring roles in Beauty and the Beast and Murder, She Wrote among others, was 96 years old at the time of her death in October 2022, according to the Guardian. Following her death, Lansbury’s legacy and influence was remembered by multiple celebrities, including Hugh Jackman, Josh Gad, and Judd Apatow.

George Burns 

After 93 years in show business, George Burns lived to be 100 before he passed away in March 1999. In his obituary published by the New York Times, Burns was described as a cigar-smoking comedian considered to be the best “straight man” in the world of comedy. Over the course of his decades-spanning career, Burns performed on TV, in sold out clubs and theaters, and pretty much anywhere else where audiences would watch his trademark routines.

Bob Barker 

Bob Barker, the longtime host of The Price is Right, Happy Gilmore star, and advocate for spaying and neutering your pets, lived to be 99 years old before he passed away in August 2023, per TMZ. The TV and Hollywood icon was just four months shy of his 100th birthday at the time of his death, a passing that was met with an emotional response from his fans. Dozens of celebrities took to social media in the wake of his passing to share stories about working with the iconic figure, including Adam Sandler with whom he had a funny ongoing feud.

Ed Asner 

Ed Asner, who starred on shows like The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Roots, as well as movies like Up and Elf, was 91 at the time of his passing in August 2021, per The Hollywood Reporter. The late actor left behind a massive body of work and lasting legacy we’ll feel for years, if not decades, to come.

Doris Day

American actress and singer Doris Day passed away in May 2019 just weeks after her 97th birthday, per the New York Times. The star of Alfred Hitchcock thrillers (The Man Who Knew Too Much), all-time great romantic comedies (Pillow Talk), and her own sitcom (The Doris Day Show), Day was one of the most talented and prolific Hollywood stars of her time.

Billy Wilder

Billy Wilder, one of the most iconic and impactful directors in the history of Hollywood, lived to the age of 95 before passing away in March 2002, according to CNN. Known for movies like Some Like It Hot, Double Indemnity, Sabrina, and most famously, Sunset Boulevard, the late filmmaker gave moviegoers some of the most unforgettable moments throughout his career.

Harry Dean Stanton

Harry Dean Stanton, one of the greatest character actors of all time, passed away in September 2017, according to the New York Times. He was 91 years old at the time of his passing. Stanton, whose work ranged from Alien to Paris, Texas, and dozens upon dozens of other great films, was one of a kind.

Ennio Morricone

After spending decades crafting some of the most well-known film scores in the history of Hollywood, composer Ennio Morricone passed away at the age of 91 in July 2020, per the New York Times. Throughout his unparalleled career, Morricone created unforgettable moments in everything from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and so much in between.

Joan Fontaine

Joan Fontaine, who appeared in classics like Rebecca and Suspicion and so much more, passed away in December 2013. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she was 96 at the time of her death.

Harry Morgan

Best known for his portrayal of Col. Sherman T. Potter on the long-running sitcom M*A*S*H, Emmy Award-winning actor Harry Morgan lived to be 96 years of age before he passed away in December 2011, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Christopher Plummer

Following a decades-spanning career that saw him take major roles in The Sound of Music, Beginners, and Knives Out, passed away in February 2021. According to Variety, the multi-talented actor and Oscar winner was 91 years old at the time of his death.

Jerry Lewis

A comedian that was great in dramatic roles, Jerry Lewis lived to be 91 years old before his death in August 2021, according to Variety. Throughout his career, Lewis appeared in everything from The Nutty Professor to The King of Comedy, and so much more.

Phyllis Diller

After spending most of her life serving as one of the funniest, sassiest, and most prolific comedians in show business, Phyllis Diller passed away in August 2012. In her obituary published by the New York Times, Phyllis was credited with inspiring two generations of female comedians by breaking through doors, ceilings, and just about everything else to make her voice heard. She was 95 years old at the time of her passing.

Hal Holbrook

Hal Holbrook, who spent decades perfecting his craft in film, television, and his long-running one-man stage show about Mark Twain, lived to the age of 95, before passing away in February 2021, according to the New York Times. Throughout his career, he appeared in movies like All the President’s Men, Into the Wild, and Lincoln, to name just a few.

Ernest Borgnine

Ernest Borgnine lived to be 95 years of age, until his death in July 2012, per The Hollywood Reporter. The legendary actor appeared in countless film and television projects throughout his career and even won an Oscar for his performance in Delbert Mann’s 1955 romantic drama, Marty.

Maureen O'Hara

After spending a career dazzling audiences in movies like Miracle on 34th Street, How Green Was My Valley, and The Foxes of Harrow, Maureen O’Hara passed away in October 2014 when she was 95, according to USA Today.

Jerry Stiller

Jerry Stiller passed away in May 2020 -- the beloved comedian, Seinfeld star, and father of actor Ben Stiller was 92. Over the course of his legendary career in show business, Stiller found success with his wife, Anne Meara, appeared in movies like Hairspray and The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three, and did so much more, as covered in his New York Times obituary.

Stan Lee

Stan Lee, the man behind some of the most recognized and influential Marvel Comics characters, as well as a great cameo actor in several of the best Marvel movies, lived to be 95 years old before passing away in November 2018. Described by the New York Times as a man who revolutionized the comic book world, Lee’s impact continues to be felt today.

Joss Ackland 

Joss Ackland, who appeared in more than 100 movies and TV shows ranging from Lethal Weapon 2 to White Mischief, passed away in November 2023. According to the BBC, the legendary and prolific actor was 95 years old at the time of his death.

Hugh Hefner

Though he wasn’t an actor or director, Hugh Hefner was just as much a part of the Hollywood scene as anyone else throughout the second half of the 20th century and beyond, thanks to his groundbreaking Playboy publication. The party came to an end for the media trailblazer in September 2019 when he passed away at the age of 91. According to the New York Times, Hefner died at his longtime home, the Playboy Mansion.

While we are sad that some of these beloved Hollywood stars have passed away, we can take solace in knowing they all lived long and fulfilling lives, each having an incredible impact on the entertainment industry and culture as a whole. Five, ten, and even fifty years from now, it's hard to imagine a Hollywood, or world, where these icons aren't just as impactful as they are today.

Nearly 20 years ago, Hugh Hefner was on the hunt. The longtime Playboy mogul really wanted then It-girl Paris Hilton to be on the cover of his magazine, and he was furiously wooing her. He offered her money, then more money, than plenty of accommodations to try to entice her. According to Paris though, her mom would have lost her mind. 

In her upcoming memoir -- which has also yielded stories about attempting to sneak a young Khloé Kardashian into a club -- Paris Hilton wrote about the experience, and the dark side of being famous during this time. She considered all of the things Hefner offered, but kept hearing her mom’s reaction in the back of her mind; Kathy Hilton was firm doing the magazine would be “so trashy.” Still, the magazine mogul was on the hunt for a while: 

Recounting this portion of the experience, Hilton got candid about weighing her options at the time. She even said she considered appearing in Playboy, thinking it might be "awesome," but her mom was totally against it. And of course, she said she was still dealing with the ramifications of being branded a “slut” after a sex tape she had participated in was released. So, she said no. But that didn’t stop Hugh Hefner. 

In fact, in an excerpt from Paris: The Memoir (via People), Hilton describes how Hefner went out of the way to track down a photographer from an old photoshoot she’d participated in. He bought a photo of the reality star and gave her an award, allowing him to splash the photo on his cover. According to the former Simple Life star she only found out after the magazine was published.

Paris Hilton isn’t the first woman in recent weeks to talk about experiences with Hugh Hefner. Former  Girls Next Door stars Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt have opened up about their experience being “recruited” at the Playboy Mansion and being asked to have sex with Hugh Hefner in front of other women – some of whom hated them. 

Though Paris Hilton was candid about needing to work through her feelings about sex in her memoir, a lot of that she says stem from her experiences with her sex tape and her boarding school and not her Playboy experience. While the cover experience was emotional, she’s been willing to go back and share pics from the Playboy mansion since. And just a couple of years after the photoshoot, she attended Hugh Hefner’s 81st birthday party at the Playboy Club (as seen in top image). 

While some women have seemingly had less-than-positive experiences, others have recalled enjoying appearing in Playboy over the years, such as Dolly Parton, who recreated her infamous Playboy cover at 75.  Pamela Anderson also recently revealed Hugh Hefner was the one person throughout her entire career whom she felt actually treated her with respect.  Heather Rae El Moussa has complicated feelings about her work with the magazine, noting she realizes it “catapulted” her career, but that she has no idea how she’s going to tell her children. A slew of other women, from Kim Kardashian to director Diablo Cody, have been featured in the past and commented about the experience. Still, clearly the magazine has a complicated legacy.

Less than a year after Hulu’s Pam & Tommy turned the titular couple’s sex tape theft into a caper dramedy, that show’s biggest naysayer, Pamela Anderson herself, is reclaiming coverage about her storied career in a big way, thanks to the simultaneous releases of her Netflix documentary and her autobiographical memoir. The actress and model has already been at the center of multiple high-profile headlines so far, as she claimed Tim Allen flashed his penis at her on the Home Improvement set and rehashed past claims that Sylvester Stallone attempted to win her over with a car and more. Now, she’s shared what might perhaps be an unexpected take on one of her earliest employers, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. 

Considering her not-so-savory claims about the aforementioned Hollywood stars and others, one might think Pamela Anderson would be a key source of similarly salacious stories about Playboy magazine’s sex-consumed boss Hugh Hefner, who passed away in 2017 at 91 years old. But to the contrary, in an interview with The Times of London, the Baywatch vet named Hefner as being the one person in her career who could be counted on to not treat her the same way the rest of the world did at the time. And how did he treat her?

To be sure, Hugh Hefner has certainly been at the center of many stories and claims that paint him in a less positive light, particularly when it involved sex parties at the Playboy Mansion. But Pamela Anderson has almost always spoken of the Hef rather highly, both before and after his death, giving him much credit for helping launch her into orbit with her photo shoots for the mag, with her ascension to Playmate being quite the booster. 

As well, Anderson spoke about how much her first Playboy appearance affected her attitude and feelings about herself at the time, saying:

The Barb Wire star definitely isn’t alone in that respect, with many models over the years crediting Playboy and Hugh Hefner with inspiring feelings of self-love and confidence. It’s possible that Anderson could have achieved a similar career arc without the NSFW publication making her an object of lustful affection, but we’ll never really know what that reality would have been like.

Girls Next Door stars Holly Madison and Bridge Marquardt moved out of the Playboy Mansion more than a decade ago, but their time living with the significantly older Hugh Hefner, alongside his other girlfriends, is still very vivid in their minds. They recently launched a podcast to tell stories and talk about what their lives were like. Those lives extended to the bedroom, and the two recently got candid about what being with someone so much older was like.

On the most recent episode of Girls Next Level, Madison and Marquardt both talked about their experiences of moving into the mansion and their first times being sexually active with Hugh Hefner, who passed in 2017. Madison went first and said she went out with Hefner and his girlfriends for the first time and got drunk at a club. When she got back, they all went to the bedroom, and she recounted what happened in very specific detail…

Madison went on to describe the encounter as “traumatic” and said she felt “used,” but it made her all the more determined to get what she came for, which was to move into the mansion and bring some stability to her life. She would end up staying almost a decade, and apparently later on, the sex got “so routine”, Hefner wouldn’t move. She described him as a “bump on a log” in the middle of the bed.

Bridget Marquardt also described her first time with Hugh Hefner during the same conversation. She had just graduated with a Master’s Degree and was deciding whether to find a real career or try to make Los Angeles work. Hefner invited her to go on a date, and she said no. But as the months went by and she started thinking more about it, she decided she wanted to “live a little” and try something crazy. So, she went to a party at the Playboy Mansion, dressed as Carmen Miranda and told him she’d be willing to go on a date with him and his girlfriends.

A few days later, she went out to a club with Hefner and his girlfriends. They all had drinks and listened to a mix tape in the limo. She called walking into the club and right past the security “surreal.” They sat in the VIP area and danced all night, but she wasn’t sure what was going to be expected of her when she got back.

Marquardt revealed she went upstairs with Hefner and got in the bath with the other girls, including Madison. They all then went into Hefner’s room and she was shocked by how cluttered and dirty it was. Madison described it as “hoarder-style”, and Marquardt described it as a “disaster.” Pornography was playing on the TV, and they had to walk through a small path because there was so much stuff everywhere. There were vibrators on the bed. People eventually brought up a charcuterie board and various dips. 

After discussing their first times, Madison and Marquardt talked about the times after that and how uncomfortable it was to have sex in front of so many other women, especially because you have relationships with them, and they’re not always positive. In fact, Madison said she could sometimes hear the other women “talk(ing) shit” about her while she was having sex. Here’s a portion of her quote…

Madison and Marquardt both lived in the Playboy Mansion throughout much of the 2000s. Eventually, they got their own reality show called The Girls Next Door, alongside Hefner’s third girlfriend Kendra Wilkinson. The show was a big hit on E! And ultimately ran for six seasons, five of which featured Madison and Marquardt as primary cast members. They both eventually broke up with Hefner and moved out and created their own lives outside Playboy, which is why the final season featured other women moving in.

Supreme Leader Snoke was arguably the most mysterious part of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The true identity of the enigmatic villain has spawned countless fan theories, rivaled only by the who's your daddy question surrounding Rey. In the lead-up to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we have received a much better look at Snoke, and this time, not via a hologram. It turns out he's not actually fifty feet tall, and he overcompensates for his age, lack of hair and unwillingness to moisturize by wearing an audacious bathrobe wherever he goes. If Snoke strikes you as a Force-wielding Hugh Hefner from a galaxy far far away, this is no accident. The man behind the menace, actor Andy Serkis, made it clear that this is the look they were going for. Serkis said:

While I don't know if Hugh Hefner could be classified as a dictator, he definitely had a very distinct and unique look. If, as Andy Serkis told Yahoo, this was the look they wanted for Snoke, that has to be because it works and fits in with who the character is. We don't know anything about Snoke yet other than he's the bad guy who corrupted Ben Solo. So as we get to know him, we may learn this look is a reflection of his personality. The gold lamé robe is also reminiscent of royalty and may speak to how powerful and comfortable Snoke feels in his position and visibility. Walking around in a robe is a pretty boss move that reflects a carefree and relaxed position. That's why Hef wore a robe after all. Plus, if you're the scariest and most powerful dude around, nobody is really going to have the nerve to criticize what you wear.

The Hugh Hefner look is also a strong contrast to Emperor Palpatine, whose Sith attire reflected how he worked in the shadows. We have heard that Snoke is not a Sith, so this aesthetic is another way to visually differentiate him from the villains that came before. All big bads should have a distinct look meant to command fear and respect. This Hugh Hefner vibe, though, will require Snoke to be extra scary and imposing because at first glance, he's just a scarred, ugly old dude in a bathrobe. In addition to Hugh Hefner, Supreme Leader Snoke also took a cue from Liberace when choosing the robe's color, and he's not the first to favor gold for his villainous attire. Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon and Skeletor from Masters of the Universe also went with gold while cruelly ruling over others. If that's not good company, I don't know what is.

Hugh Hefner passed away a few months ago, but the iconic Playboy founder will now live on in a way he never expected. Last month, a week after Hugh Hefner passed away, it was announced that the movie centered on the Playboy founder was finally moving forward after spending a decade in development hell. Rush Hour series director Brett Ratner has been the driving force for getting this project off the ground, and the plan was for him to helm this biopic, which reportedly would have starred Jared Leto as Hefner. However, due to the sexual harassment allegations that have been directed against Ratner, it's been announced that the Hugh Hefner biopic has been scrapped.

Earlier today, six women, including model Natasha Henstridge and actress Olivia Munn, publicly accused of Brett Ratner of sexually harassing them. Hours after this news broke, Playboy Enterprises announced that it was putting all of its projects with RatPac Entertainment, Ratner's production company, on hold until it could "review the situation further." Soon after that, the company told Yahoo that the Hugh Hefner biopic has been cancelled. Yahoo also learned from Jared Leto's representative that the actor was never attached to the biopic, and that he has no plans to collaborate with Ratner.

The Hugh Hefner biopic has had quite a few ups and downs since 2007, when Brett Ratner first expressed interest in making the movie. At one point, Robert Downey Jr. was attached to play the media mogul. It's unclear if Playboy Enterprises will attempt to get a new version of the Hugh Hefner biopic up and running once a director and/or producer has been found, but it's clear now that the movie Brett Ratner wanted to make is no more. Hefner, who founded Playboy Magazine in 1953, died on September 27 at the age of 91.

As for Brett Ratner, whose other credits include Red Dragon, X-Men: The Last Stand and Hercules (the one with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), following the allegations directed against him, he announced that he would step away from all of his Warner Bros-related activities. THR revealed shortly thereafter that WB has severed ties with him. Along with with his first-look deal with the studio not being renewed, Ratner is losing his RatPac Entertainment offices, though he remains a partner in the production company. Ratner has also been removed as a producer on The Goldfinch, the only upcoming WB movie where he's been active in such a role. This is the latest sexual harassment scandal to hit Hollywood in recent weeks, with other allegations having been directed towards Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, among others.

In the days after Hugh Hefner's death, social media saw an outpouring of gratitude and grief from many of the famous Playboy Playmates and celebrities who were closest to the 91-year-old multimillionaire. Now Hefner's 31-year-old third wife, Crystal Harris, has opened up about her bereavement in a statement, saying,

Crystal Harris also told People that she joined others in mourning her husband's death, and she thanked everyone for their condolences. Crystal Harris' words echoed the appreciation many women close to Hugh Hefner said after his death. For example, Pamela Anderson credited him with helping to kickstart her career, as did Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra. As for Harris, she was the Playboy Playmate of the Month for December 2009, and she married Hugh Hefner on December 31, 2012. She also participated in a season of The Girls Next Door, and when notorious ladies man Hefner proposed to her, he gushed about her and said the more committed they became, the more they loved each other.

Questions remain concerning what Crystal Harris will do next now that Hugh Hefner is gone. In 2016, Hefner sold the Playboy Mansion to his wealthy neighbor on the condition that he could continue living there with his wife until he died. Now the situation is uncertain because the man who bought the Playboy Mansion previously said he wanted to connect it to his place and create one large estate, but reports say Harris is still living at the house without any problems for now.

Unfortunately, recent reports have also indicated some people on the internet have been out for blood with mean tweets directed at Crystal Harris since Hugh Hefner's death. Most of them center on how much inheritance money she might receive, and some messages suggest she does not care that Hefner died. But if Harris' statement is any indication, the death is shocking for her even though Hefner was 60 years her senior.

Besides, the past year or two has been relatively rough for Crystal Harris. Last year, for example, she announced that she had Lyme disease as well as illnesses caused by toxic mold and a breast implant rupture. Now that Hugh Hefner has passed away, it sounds like she is still figuring out what life looks like on her own. We'll have to stay tuned to see what's next for Harris and whether she might speak out in more detail down the road.

Before Hugh Hefner died, he wrapped up many loose ends, even going so far as to purchase the crypt next to Marilyn Monroe for himself. However, not everything in the Playboy empire is certain. For example, questions remain concerning the next phase for the multimillionaire's Playboy Mansion in Holmby Hills, California. But it turns out what is next for the estate is not in the hands of Playboy or the Hefner family, as someone else already owns the Playboy Mansion.

Last year, Hugh Hefner sold the Playboy Mansion to Daren Metropoulos, a co-owner of Hostess Brands, for more than $100 million. Metropoulos also acquired the vast estate next door to the Playboy Mansion in 2009. Afterward, he announced grand plans to renovate the properties and connect them to form a 7.3-acre compound and use it as his home.

Hugh Hefner bought the Playboy Mansion for $1.05 million in 1971. It reportedly was the biggest property sale ever in Los Angeles at the time. Four decades later, Hefner sold it for nearly 100 times the price he paid. That raised price tag was not all inflation; the Playboy Mansion was legendary. In fact, Daren Metropoulos apparently knew how vital Hefner and Playboy were to the value of the place because he struck a deal that let Hefner continue living there for the rest of his life.

So, Hugh Hefner never had to move, but there is no word what his 31-year-old wife, Crystal Harris, has to do now that Hefner is gone. Harris reportedly is living at the Playboy Mansion without problems, and the arrangement might remain in place for a while. Then again, it could change if Daren Metropoulos wants to connect the two estates. Still, some people hope Metropoulos' expansion plans will not alter the Playboy Mansion too much because of its history.

After all, Hugh Hefner and many of the women who worked for him called the sprawling Playboy Mansion home after Hefner relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles in the early 1970s. Since Hefner's passing, we have heard about a lot of happy memories from celebrities and Playmates who stayed at the Playboy Mansion or attended events there. For instance, People says Carmen Electra spoke fondly of her time at the Playboy Mansion and called it "an adult Disneyland." Similarly, Kim Kardashian tweeted that she and Paris Hilton were messaging back and forth reminiscing about the famous Playboy Mansion Halloween parties.

Architect Arthur R. Kelly originally designed and built the Playboy Mansion for Arthur Letts, Jr., the son of the businessman and designer who turned Holmby Hills into a fancy community of grand estates for affluent clients. According to Daren Metropoulos, the original plans for the property showed the Playboy Mansion was supposed to connect with the estate next door. Thus, Metropoulos' expansion would realize the original design ideas. It sounds like Metropoulos has done his research, so the final result should look great.

News of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner's death has saddened many people in the entertainment and publishing industries. Now many of the Playmates and celebrities Hefner showcased in his men's lifestyle magazine are paying tribute. For example, Pamela Anderson graced the cover of Playboy a record 14 times, and Hugh Hefner even selected her to write the forward for Playboy's Greatest Covers, a coffee table book. The 50-year-old Baywatch actress and model hopped on Instagram to share an emotional video that showed tears running down her face. Anderson attached a lengthy caption to express her extreme grief, but also thanked Hefner for helping her build a career in show business. Take a look:

Hugh Hefner also had a profound impact on former Playmate Kendra Wilkinson, with whom Hefner shared a polyamorous relationship along with Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt. Hefner and the three former Playmates filmed six seasons of the reality television show The Girls Next Door together. Wilkinson opened up to reporters in response to Hefner's death and said:

So, as you might imagine, many of the famous faces have been joining former Playmates in sharing condolences via social media. Clearly, Hugh Hefner had a major positive impact on many women in Hollywood, so it is heartening to see many of them speak out with kind words for their friend after his death.

Hugh Hefner, the founder of the best-selling men's lifestyle magazine Playboy, has died at 91 years old. The businessman created the lifestyle and entertainment magazine in 1951 and managed it into a global brand. Cooper Hefner, Hugh Hefner's son and the Chief Creative Officer of Playboy Enterprises, issued a statement about the death of his father and said,

As a child growing up in Chicago, Hugh Hefner enjoyed writing comic books and horror stories, and in high school, he created a comic strip called School Daze. Afterward, Hefner enlisted as an infantry clerk in World War II. During the war, he continued his love of writing by contributing comic strips to the army gazette. Later, Hefner completed a bachelor of psychology with a double minor in creative writing and arts from the University of Illinois. By 1951, he had begun working as a copywriter for the men's lifestyle magazine Esquire. He reportedly quit because the magazine denied him a five dollar raise.

Afterward, Hugh Hefner decided to launch a new publication, so he raised about $9,000 from 45 investors, including his mom. Hefner first called his new magazine Stag Party but then changed the name to Playboy. The first issue featured nude pictures of Marilyn Monroe, and it sold more than 50,000 copies at $0.50. Miles Davis was the first person interviewed in Playboy in 1962. A year later, Hefner got arrested for "promoting obscenity" when Playboy published nude photos of Jane Mansfield, but the jury in the trial could not reach a verdict, so all charges were dropped. Hefner continued his work on the magazine and became a trailblazer in the publishing industry by thinking up inventive ideas for Playboy, including a Braille edition that made Playboy, of all magazines, the first men's lifestyle publication for the blind.

While nude pictures were Hugh Hefner's foot in the door for Playboy, the entrepreneur strived to provide writing of value in the magazine and often invited world-renowned writers to write for the publication. For example, Hefner had writers like Hunter S. Thompson, John Updike, Ian Fleming, Joseph Heller, Chuck Palahniuk, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Margaret Atwood, P. G. Wodehouse, Jack Kerouac, Haruki Murakami, and Kurt Vonnegut contribute works to Playboy over the years.

In fact, Hugh Hefner decided to stop showing nude images of women in Playboy and focus on the articles and interviews for a year in 2016, and sales of the magazine reportedly jumped about 28 percent. However, Playboy returned to nude images this year.

Hugh Hefner dabbled in monogamous and polyamorous relationships with dozens of women over the years. In 2012, he married Playmate Crystal Harris, whom he had dated off-and-on since 2008. Before that time, Hefner had relationships with many other Playmates. For example, his polyamorous relationship with Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt, Kendra Wilkinson was the subject of the reality television show The Girls Next Door in the early aughts. Hefner married his ex-wife, Kimberley Conrad, in 1989 and appeared to remain mostly monogamous in the marriage through the 1990s, but he began dating multiple women again by the end of the decade and officially divorced Conrad ten years later in 2010. Before Conrad, Hefner was married to his first wife, Millie Williams, from 1949 to 1959.

Romance aside, Hugh Hefner's life was still a veritable treasure trove of fun facts. For example, he earned two spots in the Guinness Book of World Records, one for having the longest career reign as Editor-in-Chief of the same magazine and another for owning the largest collection of personal scrapbooks. Also, he acquired the New Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles in 1971 for $1 million and sold it for around $200 million in 2016 on the condition that he would not move out.

Hugh Hefner is survived by his wife and four children. He left a lasting legacy on the publishing industry and American culture.

Well, there’s just no easy way to tell all you fine gentlemen this, so I’ll simply give it to you straight. Playboy is planning to stop printing pictures of ladies in all their naked gloriousness. I know, it’s the end of an era. But, honestly, if you think about it, you didn’t really need Playboy to see naked women any more, did you?

The announcement came yesterday via The New York Times, and the Playboy website wrote about it this morning. After some, obviously, careful consideration, Cory Jones, chief content officer at the magazine, spoke to Playboy creator and institutional naked lady icon Hugh Hefner and the final decision was made.

The magazine is planning on a more modern design that will be “more accessible” and “more intimate.” Playboy is looking to create images that are less highly produced that have a more toned down feel. The overall look is intended to be more PG-13 and a lot more like the naughtier photos you could see on Instagram. The property is also planning a sex column by a “sex-positive female,” possibly hoping to distance themselves from the idea that the magazine has an old-fashioned and sexist view of women’s worth. The editors stress that there will still be a Playmate of the Month, but haven’t said whether or not a centerfold will continue to be a part of their monthly plan. The changes will take effect with the March 2016 issue.

The first issue of Playboy, which came out in 1953 and featured Marilyn Monroe on the cover, set off a cultural turning point that began to legitimatize nudity and even straight ahead porn for the American public. Many competitors followed, most closely by Penthouse, which tried to take the dawn of the internet nudie age in stride by going even more hardcore, and failed as a result.

Playboy's decision comes after the magazine has seen its sales numbers drop significantly over the past few decades. The circulation was at its high point in 1975, where it peaked at 5.6 million, and has dwindled to about 800,000 currently. The very revolution that the magazine set off in the early 1950s seems to have doomed the all-naked-all-the-time policy to unnecessariness. Playboy has already made some content safe for work so their images could be included on popular social media sites. And, in August of 2014, they dispensed with nudity on their own website.

I happen to be a woman who doesn’t have any problem with Playboy being all about ladies and their nether regions and whatever else it is that they show. As long as everyone is 18 or older and no one has been coerced or tricked into posing, what can anyone do about it?

On an even more personal note, I remember being at home as a 12-year-old, with no adult supervision, and sneaking my dad’s copy with my best friend Danielle. We were looking for two things: to see what the big deal was, and to see how we were supposed to turn out. Danielle was a tiny little thing, even for a pre-teen, and I was, well, a bit of a chunky lass. We both looked at the pictures and said, “well, that’s not gonna happen,” and that was it. But, if some little girl somewhere saw the images in Playboy as yet another reason why they weren’t worthy, I can easily say good riddance. And, if this decision to change the magazine proves to be a good one, it seems like the men of America won’t miss it either.

We’re still a few days away from Halloween, but judging by how the holiday always works and the trends we’ve seen thus far, it’s pretty fair to say you’ll probably encounter a lot of Miley Cyrus costumes as you make the rounds, some of which will be far better than others. Currently leading the pack thanks to surprise and shock value is without question Hugh and Crystal Hefner who dressed as the starlet and her Video Music Awards performance partner Robin Thicke, as seen on Instagram.

As you can tell in the above picture, the two were, by all accounts, pretty cheerful during the annual Playboy Halloween party, which is really nice to see. They have had more than their share of rocky moments over the years. She called off the wedding just days before she was supposed to walk down the aisle, and later, she took some pretty aggressive shots in the media. After the anger subsided, however, she wound up returning to mansion and later followed through and married Hefner. For basically the last year, all has seemingly been great on the home front, and at this point, there’s no reason to think that bliss won’t continue through many more Halloween parties.

We won’t know for sure until Halloween actually passes, but I’m pretty sure the creepy bear Miley costume is going to prove less popular than the flesh-colored one she rocked opposite Thicke. As such, Paris definitely deserves a few extra points for going that route. In addition, she deserves a few extra points because that costume is obviously harder to recreate. That being said, she doesn’t have an eighty-year-old man opposite her to participate in her scheme.

After an engagement, a break-up just prior to the wedding, a series of public spats, a reconciliation and another engagement, Crystal Harris finally became Mrs. Hugh Hefner yesterday in a New Year’s Eve ceremony at the famed Playboy Mansion. The bride wore a poofy, faint pink dress and carried her dog for extended spells while the groom went with the classic black tuxedo.

The affair was far more low key than the grandiose spectacle that was planned for the first wedding, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t still awesome. According to US Weekly, the reception flowed directly into the annual New Year’s Eve party, and famous guests included Jon Lovitz, Gene Simmons and Joe Don Rooney from Rascal Flatts.

Over the past few months, Harris has stepped forward and taken responsibility for what happened the first time around. She had never really been on her own and apparently needed some space to realize the Mansion was where she belonged all along. Fortunately, Hef welcomed her back with open arms, and by all accounts, they moved past the brief period of turbulence.

Later this month, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and former Playboy model Crystal Harris will reportedly walk down the aisle. The publisher and much younger fiancée were actually set to do the exact same thing roughly a year and a half ago, but just five days before the wedding, she got cold feet and called the whole thing off.

In the aftermath of the canceled nuptials, Hef was extremely polite and said nothing but nice things about his former love. He even let her keep the ring. She, on the other hand, was less than pleasant and blabbed to several outlets about what it was like to date an old man.

Pretty much everyone assumed these two would never speak again, but shockingly, she moved back into the Playboy Mansion earlier this year. Not long after, they officially became a couple again, and earlier this week, news broke that they’d use New Year’s Eve to follow through on the original plan. Not surprisingly, plenty of jokes have been made at the couple’s expense over the past few days, but there are actually legitimate reasons as to why it could work this time.

Her biggest reason for leaving Hef last time was that she needed to live on her own and grow up. For approximately a year, she did that. She experienced life on her own terms, and the fact that Hef was still waiting when she came back, despite the fact that he’s famously not waited on many women in the past, is a sign of just how invested she is. That being said, he’s eighty-six, she’s twenty-six, and they already failed once; so, this certainly could be a disaster.

A little less than a year ago, Crystal Harris unceremoniously broke it off with Hugh Hefner right before their wedding. The Playboy founder took the news like a champ, let her auction off the engagement ring and generally played nice in the press. She, however, did not. The former bunny said plenty of negative things publically and pretended as if she was never super down with him. Apparently, she’s changed her tune.

According to Radar Online, Harris moved back into the mansion earlier this week. It’s unclear whether that means a wedding might once again be in the cards, but her arrival was supposedly met by Hef’s angry girlfriend Shera Berchard moving out. That would seem to be a sign of a serious reinvigorated romance, but I suppose we shall see. Anonymous sources are claiming Harris had to beg Hef for the keys back, but given what transpired before, it seems like begging was warranted.

I have no idea what either of these people see in each other, but I suppose that’s what makes the world go round. So, Cinema Blend sends out a tepid congratulation to Hef and Harris as they begin spending more time together again. The last attempt may not have ended so well, but that doesn’t necessarily mean this try will end the same way. We’ll keep you updated if any event planners are booked.

When this project was first announced, I did a lot of griping. It's not that a show revolving around the infamous Playboy Club in the 1960s is a bad idea for a series, it's just a bad idea for a network television series. Oh, and it doesn't help its cause that it's one of about five new shows copying the Mad Men period drama mold. Oh well, we're getting the show so I might as well enjoy the bunnies, uh, the view.

Before getting to the brand new banner for the upcoming NBC hour long drama, let's take a second to highlight the most recent addition to The Playboy Club. No, unfortunately it's not another attractive bunny (but with Amber Heard, Naturi Naughton and a whole slew of young, beautiful women I guess we'll get by) but instead another mobster.

TVLine announced that Golden Globe nominated Troy Garity (best known as the sole white barber in Barbershop), "has landed the recurring role of John Bianchi, the 'connected' son of Bruno Bianchi, a Chicago crime kingpin who meets an unexpected and grisly fate in the series premiere." Garity's character won't appear until the second episode and he's kind of like a surrogate brother to lead Eddie Cibrian's Nick Dalton... only there's trouble brewing in this family as Dalton might know a little more about 'their' missing father then he's leading on. Cue the drama. And the bunnies.

Former Playmate, Hugh Hefner ex-girlfriend and wannabe musician Crystal Harris continued to speak Playboy founder yesterday, telling Howard Stern she only had sex with the eighty-five year old once and that it lasted like “two seconds." Also among her list of grievances with the publisher were never seeing him naked and his lack of sex appeal. I get it. Sleeping with someone old enough to be your grandfather probably isn't as appealing or stimulating as bedding a twenty-something, but that task is also what she signed up for. Whether seeking money, fame or comfort, Crystal Harris not only dated Hugh Hefner, she accepted his marriage proposal.

I like to think of myself as an open person, but there are limits to what is appropriate to talk about in public. For example: it would have been okay for Crystal Harris to tell Howard Stern how many sexual partners she's had because that is her secret. Details in bed are not. Those little tidbits are only half hers to share and without Hefner's consent, it's poor form to reveal those intimate moments. Besides, it's not even clear whether or not any of these accusations are true. Hefner took to his Twitter late last night to call bullshit on Harris' story. He later deleted a few of the more blunt retorts, but he did leave one up saying he thought his former fiancée seemed “lost”.

It's easy to tear a former love down. It's hard to put on a smile and publicly speak the best of him or her.

It seems impossible that an icon on the level of the Hollywood sign could be subject to destruction or relocation, but for a time there was a danger that the land surrounding the sign would be sold to developers, leaving the Los Angeles landmark's future in jeopardy. But Hollywood is a town packed with millionaires who are also attached to their city's fame, and many of them came out in force to pony up enough cash to save the land-- including a $900,000 donation from Hugh Hefner.

Variety quoted Hefner with a pretty moving tribute to the landmark, which now sits on 140 acres owned by the Trust for Public Land:

Other individual donors included Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and Norman Lear, along with organizations ranging from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to The Walt Disney Company Foundation. None of these peoople may be able to agree on anything normally, but it's charming that they banded together to save a symbol so important.

Actress Pamela Anderson surprised Playboy entrepreneur HUGH HEFNER on his 82nd birthday with a naked lapdance.

The star - who has appeared on the cover of the publication 12 times - gave the media mogul the unique gift during celebrations at the Palms Fantasy Towers in Las Vegas on Saturday (05Apr08).

As Hefner walked into his luxury suite, Anderson, 40, emerged from a bedroom in nothing but high heels and proceeded to perform a the seductive routine for him.
