Be warned if you haven’t yet watched The Boys’ series finale streaming via Amazon Prime subscription!

Some of television’s most deplorable characters and pungent personalities are no longer with us, now that The Boys’ series finale has come and gone in all its bloody glory. (Check out what we had to say about the gross-out episode.) The ep was surprisingly free from any noteworthy Soldier Boy appearances, which creator Eric Kripke said was a purposeful move to keep the final installment focused on the mains, with Jensen Ackles’ Vought Rising spinoff having previously enjoyed some narrative set ups.

Given that the spinoff will be a prequel focusing on the rise of Supes in the 1950s, as well as Soldier Boy’s sordid relationship with Aya Cash’s Stormfront, does that mean we’ll never find out what happens to Soldier Boy’s cryosleep-induced body after Stan Edgar returned as the CEO of Vought? I hope that’s not the case, as I think it would be interesting and valuable to know what a Homelander-free version of the company would do with one of its OG enforcers.

Having delivered a finale he was proud of, Eric Kripke isn’t exactly oozing spoilers for the impending series, which isn’t set to debut until after the 2026 TV schedule has wrapped. But this is a case where his lack of an answer speaks more volumes than any other kind of answer. The creator (who is an executive producer on the spinoff) was asked by Deadline if Vought Rising will take place across multiple timelines, and here’s how Kripke responded:

There's no real way to come away from that answer thinking, "It probably won't feature multiple timelines and will consistently remain set in the 1950s no matter how many seasons it gets." If he's unable to talk about it, that means it's almost definitely happening. But in what capacity?

Obviously, my biggest hope here is for Vought Rising to provide some follow-up insight on what went down inside The Tower after Homelander's shame-inducing death, and whether or not Soldier Boy's holding tank was put back into clandestine hiding, only to be unearthed the next time a potentially catastrophic Supe attempts to usurp mankind. (I'd also like to know who had to clean up Homelander's corpse, and whether or not his body was also put into a cryo tank for DNA-saving purposes.

While not confirming or denying the timeline question, Kripke did tease the new show's ability to surprise viewers, aying:

Though The Boys is obviously where fans first met Soldier Boy, Stormfront, and Bombsight, the comic book adaptation wasn't meant to make setting up the sequel a major part of its storytelling, so fans will have to wait and see what kind of debauchery showrunner Paul Grellong has in store. I doubt it'll have the same kinds of Supernatural references that played out in Season 5, as well as the gore-filled reunions, but hopefully other vets from that world will share space with Ackles anew one day.

Maybe in the next trailer, we'll get a flash-forward to the present, where we learn that Soldier Boy's cryo-tank is being used as a coffee table for Starlight and Hughie, or that it's been set up in a public space for citizens to mock and judge accordingly. Not that I think SB would take any amount of backtalk lightly, even in his sleep.

With no date set yet for when we might see Vought Rising on the small screen, we're also waiting to hear more about the Mexico-set spinoff that went into development a couple of years ago.

The penultimate episode of The Boys upped the Season 5 body count by having Homelander kill Frenchie off (which still sits wrong with me), which will no doubt give Butcher, Starlight, & Co. even more motivation to rid the world of Antony Starr’s self-assessed messiah in the series finale. We also saw the last of another major Supe in “The Frenchman, The Female and the Mother’s Milk,” as Homelander put an unwilling Soldier Boy back into his cryosleep tube. But not before a final Supernatural callback!

During their final-for-now conversation, after Homelander tried to win his dad over by revealing Soldier Boy-related additions to Voughtland, Ackles’ character made it clear that he did not want a lasting relationship with his offspring, and that his decision to give up the priceless V1 formula was guided entirely by his love for Aya Cash’s Clara (a.k.a. Stormfront). As he put it in the ep:

Just about anyone familiar with Supernatural presumably perked up at that moment, since the show's Winchester brothers were well known for driving (and fixing up) a 1967 Impala that they named "Baby."

Obviously that wasn't as ginormous a Supernatural connection as the surprisingly bloody reunion episode with Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, but it so very obviously counts. Not just because of Ackles hiimself, of course, but because The Boys creator Eric Kripke also created and ran the monster-filled drama (which also co-starred Jeffrey Dean Morgan) for its early seasons. And he pointed out that the Impala reference almost didn't make it in there.

Soldier Boy Didn't Originally Reference The Impala

Speaking with Collider about the episode, Kripke revealed that the scripted version of that scene featured a reference to a boring old car company with ZERO links to Sam and Dean Winchester. Booo! Here's how the Impala comment eventually made it into the ep:

Kripke calls it a "danger," but I think him working with Phil Sgriccia is far more of a feature than a bug. Not that the sequence would have been a failure had he only joked about working on a Ford instead of the Impala, but it definitely helped make it that much more memorable. Especially if it's the last time fans see him until Vought Rising gets here and brings "Ben" and Clara back together. And it is.

Without any further Soldier Boy scenes to look forward to, I guess we just have a bunch of still-unrevealed cameos to anticipate. Find out when the series finale hits streaming on Wednesday, May 20. (Or if you're so brave, the episode is screening in 4DX theaters on Tuesday night.)

The Boys’ fifth and final season is streaming now with a Prime Video subscription amid the 2026 TV schedule, and it’s been intense. As part of this last stretch of episodes, there have been some fun surprises, including a bloody Supernatural reunion between Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins. That finally came to fruition in Episode 5, and it was well worth the wait. On top of that, Prime Video just dropped an excellent outtake, and it shows Collins, Ackles and Padalecki all reprising their SPN characters.

Despite both shows being created by Eric Kripke, The Boys and Supernatural are very different, especially when it comes to how they're written. With that in mind, it was hilariously jarring for me to see the outtake shared to Prime Video's Instagram. In it, Padalecki, Ackles and Collins not only channel Dean, Sam, and Castiel, respectively, but they also make reference to other elements from the beloved CW show like Chuck and Busty Asian Beauties. Take a look:

It’s been over five years since Supernatural ended, and I never thought I'd see the day that Sam, Dean and Castiel would return in some form. While this isn't like a canon addition to SPN lore in any way, it's hard not to smile when seeing the three actors slip back into versions of their beloved characters.

All in all, the trio seamlessly slide back into their respective roles, and it’s almost like no time has passed. Ironically, Ackles was nervous about working with Padalecki and Collins again but, based on this clip and what really happens in the episode, I'd say those concerns weren't warranted. Unsurprisingly, fans are absolutely loving the blooper, and you can see some responses below:

I don’t know what’s better. The fact that Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins reprised their Supernatural roles, or that the trio got pretty violent with each other on the actual show. During the episode, Ackles' Soldier Boy and Collins’ Malchemical get into a fight with Padalecki’s Mister Marathon, who ends up getting killed by Homelander (Antony Starr). Such a crushing scene is what I'd expect from The Boys and, while there's a sense of irony to such brutal moment marking a great reunion of actors, let's be glad we now have it along with this blooper.

Speaking of outtakes, I'm curious as to how long it took for them to really get through filming. Those who have seen the 15 seasons’ worth of Supernatural bloopers know that for a serious show, the stars could get completely unserious while filming. To this day, I’m not sure how everyone managed to do 15 seasons and over 300 episodes, because it always seemed like Ackles, Padalcki and Collins could not get through scenes.

After seeing this episode of The Boys, what I want now more than ever is an R-rated Supernatural revival. The chances of that happening are probably slim, but I'll continue to hold onto that hope. For now, know that new episodes of The Boys hit Prime Video on Wednesdays. Also, those who want to see Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins on Supernatural can also stream all 15 seasons of the show on the aforementioned streaming service.

The lead-up to The Boys explosive series finale has been quite the deadly one, with major characters like A-Train getting killed off early on, with Firecracker and Black Noir meeting their makers in more recent episodes. off (seemingly for realsies). You know what couldn’t be more alive, though? Soldier Boy’s filthy f--king mouth, and Jensen Ackles’ ability to deliver the hilariously foul dialogue with gravelly aplomb.

At a certain point, I just had to start keeping track of Soldier Boy's most disgusting takes on life, his most extreme sexual adventures, and his troublesome fascination with referring to male genitals. His dialogue may not be quite on par with all the amazing practical effects that are every bit as disgusting, but they're still worth remembering. (A lot of these would be great for keychains and car magnets.)

Soldier Boy's Harshest Quotes Said Directly To Homelander

To be sure, some of Jensen Ackles facial expressions in scenes with Antony Starr's Homelander are worthy of capturing all on their own, so infused with judgment and superiority they are. But the words themselves do make his points more abundantly clear. Namely that he doesn't like his own son. He's barely outside the cryo-tube before he's asking his offspring about unconsented sex.

• "Did you f--k me? Is this some kinda incest thing?" - Episode 502
• "You know, all I see is a freak. A freak with a bushel of gray pubes." - Episode 503
• "Your c-ck’s as useless as your cape. What’s the point of being famous if you’re not getting your d-ck wet?" - Episode 504

I do love that Soldier Boy takes a swipe at Homelander's cape in the same breath as he insults the Supe's manhood. Most of his views are shamefully non-progressive, but he's got a point there.

Soldier Boy's Dirtiest Quotes About Homelander

Soldier Boy has as much of problem blasting Homelander behind his back as he does saying it all to his face. Which is to say, he DGAF, and also doesn't care who he's saying any of it to.

• "He is the strangest motherf--ker I’ve ever known, and I’ve had a threesome with Gary Busey. Oof." - Episode 503
• "If he’s the second coming, what does that make me? Joseph? I mean, talk about the biggest cuck in history. Man trades his best cow to bag some hot-a-s virgin, and then God comes and squirts his baby gravy up her meat wallet. F--k that." - Episode 505
• "Nobody f--ks my son but me. That came out wrong." - Episode 505

Is there a theology course out there concerned with God's baby gravy? Is that a part of the holy trinity that I just spaced out on in catechism?

That third quote is possibly the most ridiculous one of all, but Ackles sells it so cleanly and believably. Sucks that he ends up killing Misha Collins' Malchemical immediately afterward, but I guess we knew that long-awaited Supernatural reunion was going to be violent and deadly, even if it was even bloodier than I expected.

Soldier Boy's Nastiest Quotes About Celebrities From Yesteryear

Perhaps the funniest thing about Soldier Boy's entire existence is that all of his X-rated anecdotes are about celebrities who were in their primes before nearly all of the main characters were born. (Save for some like The Legend and Stan Edgar.) So his stories get reactions of both disgust and slight confusion.

• "If the virus doesn’t get you, time will. And when you’re sitting in that wheelchair, s--tting in a colostomy bag, I’ll be running the Seven, s--tting on Shari Lewis’ t-ts." - Episode 503
• "I gotta hand it to you. I haven’t f--ked that hard since I railed Shari Lewis on the balcony of Studio 54." - Episode 503
• "The last time I let a Black woman boss me around, it was Nell Carter…with a c-ck ring, and a tub of Crisco." - Episode 504
• "It was a real Guccione p-ss party." - Episode 505
• “Buddy, the Queen sat on this face. It’s a national f--king treasure.” - Episode 506

What other show on TV has referenced Nell Carter, Shari Lewis and Bob Guccione in a three-episode stretch? Maybe The Muppet Show or something, but that's probably it. Poor Lambchop.

The Best Of The Rest Of Soldier Boy's Hilariously Awful Quotes

Not that all of Soldier Boy's most immoral lines can be classified together so easily. Ackles gets to make plenty of other derogatory and debaucherous comments that make it quite clear that his rugged and unrefined personality is not an act.

• "So what, you you asked me up here so I could watch you swim in t-t-jizz?" - Episode 503
• "I’d rather fist myself with a handful of razors." - Episode 503
• "You seem a little out of it. Did you nut? Because usually you nut." - Episode 505
• "If there is a god, he sure as hell didn’t come out of my balls." - Episode 505

I guess it's good that he cares about Firecracker's orgasm? Or maybe not. And I guess that he cares about The Deep's potential knee pains in the following quote. Or maybe not.

• "You’re looking at me like you wanna suck my hog. So I’m asking if you would like some knee pads." - Episode 505
• "My, my. How the mighty have f--ked themselves square in the ass." - Episode 505
• "Jesus, you could get pregnant with all the eye-f--king." - Episode 505

That last comment makes me wonder if Soldier Boy has a lot of other offspring running around out there, even if none of them are on the same level as Homelander. Maybe we'll learn more about that part of his life in Vought Uprising. But I can only pity anyone who learns late in life that he's their dad. Not that I pity Homelander. I'm not quite as grounded as The Legend.

Only two episodes left to go for The Boys, which is celebrating its series finale by bringing the episode to theaters around the country specifically outfitted for 4DX screenings, to give fans all the jolts and vibrations usually happen when Soldier Boy and Shari Lewis are together.

The long-awaited Supernatural reunion finally hit The Boys on Wednesday on the 2026 TV schedule, and it was pretty memorable. Fans got to see Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins on-screen together for the first time since Supernatural ended in 2020, and it wasn’t anything like The CW series. And since it is The Boys, things got pretty violent and bloody.

Ackles has previously opened up about how nervous he was about his former co-stars joining him on The Boys. While the trio frequently sees each other at fan conventions, working together again is a different story. He told Deadline how it was working with Padalecki and Collins again after so long, admitting they had to do some adjusting since they were in a different environment:

As both a Supernatural and The Boys fan, it was so fun seeing Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins on screen together. While it was definitely not like Supernatural, and they weren’t the only ones having to do some adjusting, seeing them banter and joke around, it was like nothing had changed.

Of course, there were some additional lines of coke and a whole lot of blood, but it was as entertaining as ever. It was announced a while ago that a Supernatural reunion was coming for the fifth and final season of The Boys, with very little information surrounding it, and the wait was definitely worth it. And even despite the adjusting, Ackles loved it:

When it came to filming the scene in question, it was not your typical Supernatural scene. Padalecki portrayed a former member of The Seven, Mister Marathon, while Collins was Malchemical, a Supe whose power is toxic gas. There’s a lot of fighting, a lot of violence, a lot of blood, and neither Mister Marathon nor Malchemical makes it out alive, thanks to both Soldier Boy and Homelander. But throughout everything, Ackles felt comfortable with what they were all doing, and putting on the Soldier Boy suit while filming with his former co-stars:

Even though working on The Boys together is a little different from Supernatural, it’s not like Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins haven’t dealt with crazy characters before. Ackles recalled the intense storylines that they had to do on SPN, and having to play different, villainous versions of their characters, so it’s not that big of a stretch:

While the episode ended on a pretty tragic note, it was still entertaining to see Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins on-screen together, especially since you don’t know when it’ll happen again. The Boys has once again topped itself with the episode “One-Shots,” which shockingly killed off a major Supe, set up an until-death rivalry between two others, and delivered a celebrity cameo-filled sequence that went far beyond the highly anticipated Supernatural reunion for Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. This will no doubt go down as one of the most fun and bloodiest hours in all of 2026 TV.

So let’s put our viscera-proof swimming caps on and dive into this muck to celebrate all the larger-than-usual number of wild and gory deaths, as well as series executive producer Seth Rogen heading up a murderer’s row (and eventually murdered row) of comedy stars, including Kumail Nanjiani, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Will Forte and Craig Robinson. All in a day’s work for the Supes that populate The Boys, amirite?

Jensen Ackles Got To Brutally Kill Off His Supernatural Co-Stars

The very first look at Misha Collins on The Boys surprisingly foreshadowed his death in the episode, with Soldier Boy holding his character Malchemical by the throat just before snapping the Supe's neck. I thought the show might buck that expectation somehow, but no.

From a plot perspective, Malchemical's death is pretty tragic by way of Butcher & Co.'s grand plan to kill off Homelander, since he could emit fumes noxious enough to knock the Seven's leader unconscious. Unfortunately, none of The Boys are likely aware Malcehmical exists, and thus likely won't be able to reverse-engineer his knockout gas. (That said, I'm holding out hope for Misha Collins-as-a-corpse to reappear in Episode 506 for Frenchie to extract DNA from.)

Jared Padalecki's speedster Mister Marathon was also an important introduction for the overall plot, as he confirmed where perhaps the last remaining vials of the V1 serum are. But his death was most much elaborate, utilizing some of the gnarliest practical effects I've ever seen in this show. (But only after fans got to see a hilarious assortment of Sony Pictures-produced VCU offshoot movies with Padalecki's character front and center.)

In a sequence straight out of a Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner cartoon, Marathon runs arouns his mansion chasing Soldier Boy, who amusingly puts the various celebs in his pursuer's path, causing each of them to full-on explode the way Hughie's girlfriend did when A-Train zipped through her. I guess Rogen didn't get fully 'sploded, but more on that below.

I Absolutely Loved The Dorky Nods To Superbad And Saturday Night Live

If you're looking for an SNL vet to play the weirdest dude in your movie, you're probably gonna go with Kyle Mooney. But if we're talking the second-weirdest character, that's the realm ruled over by talents like Will Forte and Bill Hader. Only, the latter isn't around anymore in The Boys' timeline, as he was outed (correctly or otherwise) as being a Starlighter, and Forte was only too happy to take advantage. As he put it:

I think hearing him refer to himself as "The Forte" could grow on me. But probably not for a while.

Elsewhere, when everyone is reacting in a panic to Homelander getting knocked out, Mister Marathon makes it clear that one of Forte's most memorable characters does indeed exist in this universe.

• WILL FORTE: Can we f--k off, please?!?
• MISTER MARATHON: Chill out, MacGruber! Everything is cool.

Forte's body does end up looking like the wrong end of a MacGruber mission, as he's the first celeb Soldier Boy sacrifices while running away.

But let's jump back a bit to before things getting so bloody. Seeing Seth Rogen and Christopher Mitz-Plasse together at the card table immediately sparked memories of Superbad, given that was the movie that put Mintz-Plasse on the map. So it's only fitting that he hilariously threw co-star Michael Cera under the bus as a possible traitor.

• CHRIS MINTZ-PLASSE: Hey, do we think Michael Cera's a Starlighter? 'Cause we're up for the same part right now, and it'd be pret-ty good if he got vanished.
• SETH ROGEN: You've been friends with him for 20 years, Chris.
• CHRIS: Yeah, but I really need this part, man.

A couple of minutes later, Homelander's ire has everyone on edge, and Mintz-Plasse once again draws attention to the Arrested Development vet, saying:

Technically, the Bill Hader comment could also count as a Superbad reference, since he and Rogen played the bumbling cops in that. Fans may recall that Craig Robinson played a drug dealer in 2007 comedy and its "Cop Car Confessions" extras. Well, he also showed up for an extremely brief cameo to gripe about Danny Trejo's tacos before Mister Marathon turned him into human salsa.

Seth Rogen Joked About Hating Weed And Then Got Half His Body Blown Off

Amidst all of the stressful happenings, Mintz-Plasse sparks up a joint and offers it to Rogen, who turns it down with the following reasoning:

It's high-ly ridiculous for this scene to imply that Mintz-Plasse wouldn't already be aware of Rogen's disinterest in the devil's lettuce after so many years. But still a funny joke, since there's a less than 0% chance that Rogen wasn't stoned while filming that very scene.

Firecracker's Fuse Was Permanently Snuffed

After all the earlier events of the episode, including Sister Sage laying out her mega-plan to eradicate humanity and catch up on reading, Homelander punctuated the episode off with another shocking death. After Firecracker pulled off arguably her most deplorable and sickening act by falsely accusing her hometown pastor and his church of being in cahoots with Starlighter, so soon after sitting with him and knowing that wasn't the case at all.

Against her better wishes, Firecracker remained loyal to Homelander's "I'm God now" turn to a fault, and likely would have continued to do his bidding for years on end. Which could have happened just so if Homelander never learned that she bagged his old man. He should have directed his anger at Soldier Boy, who knew that Homelander didn't rise to the occasion with her, but instead took it out on the one who actually had his back.

It's not quite as divisive as A-Train death scene in the premiere, since there wasn't anything redeemable happening with Firecracker. But still gave an equally cruel example of how little Homelander cares about anything or anyone around him. He's even getting breast milk from rando churchgoers now? For shame.

For many fans out there, the fifth episode of The Boys represents a special moment in pop culture, as "One-Shots" will showcase the long-awaited Supernatural reunion between Soldier Boy portrayer Jensen Ackles and former co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. Eric Kripke, who created both of the hugely popular series, doesn’t necessarily see the two projects as being all that different, at least thematically, even if they don’t share a similar level of on-screen lube and other fluids.

Kripke spoke with Comic Book Resources ahead of the key episode hitting the 2026 TV schedule, and he weighed in on the ways he thinks both The Boys and Supernatural stem from the same core idea, and it’s a link that seems perfectly clear in hindsight. As he put it:

To be sure, it's a central theme that could easily apply to plenty of other TV shows and their characters, from Scooby-Doo (which got a Supernatural crossover) to the Buffy-verse to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. (Maybe?!?) But it does absolutely hold true for both shows, even as it takes different approaches.

Supernatural is certainly more tied into the biological family is key idea, with the Winchester lineage also getting explored in the short-lived prequel series. That series also played into more religious bloodlines as well, such as Jack Kline's Nephilim origins, but the show never lost sight of the idea that Sam and Dean were the anchors, and those who joined them were family as much as those who stood against were not.

On the flip side, while The Boys has featured some complicated biological relations — the nightmare of Soldier Boy fathering Homelander — it's so much more about the idea of its titular found family. Hughie didn't grow up with Butcher, Starlight, or the others, but he doesn't know life without them at this point in the show's run. And they're slowly but surely all working towards one shared goal, although the various different sub-goals may destroy things.

Eric Kripke shared this thoughtful addendum to that idea, reinforcing the notion that nobody should feel like they have to face difficulties and tragedies alone. In his words:

Thankfully, despite an uncanny number of comparative situations between The Boys and our real world, it doesn't seem like we're ever going to have to deal with V-infused superbeings influencing the government, global commerce and the entertainment industry. So we don't all need to form Boys-esque groups just to cope. But if that time ever does come, I like to think I'd be the Frenchie of the group. Draw whatever conclusions you will from that.

Eric Kripke also shared a genuine response when asked by CBR how Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki's Supernatural brothers would fare if they lived The Boys' supe-filled world.

A prequel Vought Rising is on the way, and Jensen Ackles spoke to CinemaBlend about how his performance as Soldier Boy in Season 5 impacted the forthcoming spinoff.

The Boys Season 5 has been wild so far, including Soldier Boy coming out from ice and becoming a member of The Seven. Fans are curious to see how the flagship series will end, as well as how it'll connect to Vought Rising. In a conversation with CinemaBlend, Ackles spoke about bringing the character back for the fifth season, offering:

It sounds like his impending work on Vought Rising didn't really factor into the Supernatural star's performance in The Boys Season 5. Instead he just focused on bringing Soldier Boy back to life with this new set of circumstances, after being absent since The Boys' Season 3 finale.

But what about his work on the prequel series? Later in his same conversation with CinemaBlend, Jensen Ackles explained how wrapping up Season 5 actually informed his work in Vought Rising. As he told it:

This makes a great deal of sense. While Ackles will bring the end of Soldier Boys' story on The Boys to life, it helped inform his performance in Vought Rising. Much of the Supe's backstory is still a mystery, and it should be fascinating to see get some much-needed content about how he ended up as the brutal antihero we know him as. We've still got a bunch of The Boys episodes left before its series finale, and it feels like just about anything could happen. Homelander's mental health is reaching a new low, and I have to assume a big conflict with his father is coming. That is, as long as he can procure some V-One and achieve immortality.

New episodes of The Boys air Wednesdays on Amazon as part of the 2026 TV schedule. As for Vought Rising, that's not expected until sometime in 2027.

Spoilers ahead for Season 8, Episode 15 of The Rookie, “Survive the Streets,” which is streaming now with a Hulu subscription!

Monday’s episode of The Rookie on the 2026 TV schedule once again brought the documentary format back (as was the case with that wild truth serum episode). With that, series creator and showrunner Alexi Hawley once again served as everyone’s favorite documentarian. Like all of the doc-centric episodes, the case for this installment was intense and odd. What really caught me off guard, though, was Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles making a surprise appearance, and Supernatural was involved in an A+ way.

In the episode, “Survive the Streets,” the case centered on a retired LAPD officer, Rich Rowley, who died by suicide after he believed he was possessed by a demon. As everyone dug into what happened and recalled the events for the documentary, it was discovered that the director of a ‘90s horror film -- which the retired Rich appeared in -- located a tome that led to summoning the demon, Malaphus, since he wanted the ritual to be really specific.

Naturally, this led the documentary crew to interview none other than Padalecki and Ackles, because who would know more about demons than two people who dealt with demons (on TV) for 15 years? The actors -- playing themselves -- got on a Zoom call to reflect on meeting Rich at a convention. They recalled Rich's obsession with an episode of Supernatural, which saw Sam and Dean Winchester fighting Malaphus. Rich apparently believed the pair of stars knew about demon hunting, and he asked a lot of questions. Ackles then pointed out in the interview that demon hunters were not real and that it was all made up.

It’s a short scene, but it's as much fun as it is unexpected. Even though Padalecki and Ackles don’t reunite in person, since they are both on Zoom separately, it's still so great to see them on screen together. The icing on the cake, though, is the fact that Supernatural is even brought into the mix five years after its cancellation. As a fan of both Supernatural and The Rookie, I was pleasantly surprised at the cameo, and I’m still wondering how they managed to pull it off. Still, I won't question such a great nod!

Ironically, this Padalecki and Ackles collaboration comes ahead of a different reunion they’re set to do. The duo will appear together during the fifth and final season of The Boys, which is streaming now with an Amazon Prime subscription. Ackles is reprising his role as Soldier Boy, while Padalecki and fellow Supernatural alum Misha Collins will appear later in the season in undisclosed roles. Ackles opened up about the reunion, and he revealed just how nervous he was about his two co-stars appearing. All in all, though, it seems they -- along with EP Eric Kripke -- had a great time.

In terms of The Rookie, though, the series is getting down to its final few episodes. With that, I would assume a few more surprises could be in store. Whether those happen -- and if they'll be as big as Padalecki and Ackles’ cameos -- remains to be seen. I'm excited to see what happens, though!

Few shows will ever attain the same level of NSFW debauchery that The Boys consistently oozes from its every orifice. The fifth and final season has finally landed on the 2026 TV schedule via Amazon Prime subscription, and it’s definitely on par with past seasons in critics’ opinions. That said, co-star Jensen Ackles likely hopes at least one thing or two is different from previous years: proper prop placement.

Speaking with CinemaBlend about the new season alongside his co-star and on-screen father Antony Starr, Ackles shared a delightfully sordid story about the time when he (and allegedly “many” others on the set) mixed up hand sanitizer and body lubricant. You know, that common thing that people do, probably more often than anyone would expect. (In the sense that it happening even once is more than I’d have expected.)

Asked about any on-set mementos that may have been liberated from the set, Ackles went just so slightly over the top when sharing his response, saying:

Ah yes. Ye Olde sub-legendary “Herogasm” episode. The installment remains one of The Boys' most extreme episodes, in part for setting a penis on fire, so it only makes sense that things would skew less than sanitary behind the scenes as well. Thankfully, Ackles anecdote isn't quite as extreme as it possibly could have been. He continued:

Starr made a joke about having hands that were impossible to dry off, which seems like the kind of thing Homelander would also be into. Although with more of a bent towards breast milk rather than either hand sanitizer or lube.

I do have a question or two about this fateful mix-up on The Boys' set. Was "Lube" the brand of hand sanitizer, and that's why Ackles got mixed up? Or, on the flip side, was the lube branded as Hand Sanitizer? Probably neither is the case, but at least I tried giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm just going to blindly assume that Ackles' reasons for being Nervous about reuniting with Supernatural co-stars. has nothing to do with vats of lube everywhere. Although if it IS all connected, certain parts of this fandom would go absolutely buck wild.

With or without any additional lube on hand, the first two episodes of The Boys Season 5 are currently available to stream on Prime Video.

The fifth and final season of The Boys will be coming soon on the 2026 TV schedule, on April 8, to be exact, and there is a lot to look forward to. Now, while I can't wait to see how this action-packed series ends, I also have to admit that I'm equally excited for the Supernatural reunion that will happen during it. With Jensen Ackles returning as Soldier Boy, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins will be appearing in the series as well, but Ackles was apparently nervous about working with them again.

Supernatural ended over five years ago, but Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins are still close. They frequently attend fan conventions together, and were even still on The CW in some way, shape, or form for a bit after SPN ended. So you’d think working on-screen together again would be a breeze. With The Boys, though, things were a bit different. Ackles explained to TVLine why he was a bit nervous about his former co-stars joining the fun on the Prime hit, and it’s pretty understandable:

Ackles joined The Boys, which was created by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, in Season 3, and he’s now set to lead his own prequel, Vought Rising, alongside Aya Cash. Joining a series, especially one you’re a fan of, can be intimidating, so it makes sense that he was nervous about being on The Boys. But then those nerves just got bigger when Padalecki and Collins joined the show for Season 5, and it was more so for them rather than for him, and it really shows just how much he cares for them.

Despite the nerves radiating from the three of them, Ackles recalled just how fun filming The Boys with Padalecki and Collins truly was. As of now, their roles have yet to be revealed, but from the looks of the trailer, the three will be getting into some fun trouble, and for the Soldier Boy actor, it was like nothing had changed:

Those who have seen 15 years’ worth of Supernatural bloopers or really any panel video from any convention they’ve attended know that things can get pretty chaotic when you put Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins in one room. So it’s nice to know that not much has changed between them since the last time they were all on-screen together. And it makes me even more excited to see what they bring to The Boys.

It can be assumed that Padalecki and Collins’ roles won’t be revealed until The Boys Season 5 premieres. Regardless of what their roles are, it’s going to be pretty fun seeing them and Ackles together again, even if Soldier Boy is going to be roughing them up a bit. The Boys’ fifth and final season premieres on April 8 for those with an Amazon Prime subscription.

When The Boys finally dropped the first full-length Season 5 trailer online, the biggest group of fan reactions logically came from Boys viewers themselves. But given that this season features the highly discussed reunion between Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles and former co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, those actors’ appearances in the promo have also sparked a ton of comments from the SPN community, with many of them sharing the same idea.

The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke, who also happened to create Supernatural, knew exactly what he was doing when he first cast Ackles as the villainous Soldier Boy, and thankfully fed into the fanbase’s hopes for the actor to one again share the screen with his former on-screen bro and angel BFF. The details behind it all have somehow been kept mostly hidden from public knowledge, but the trailer heavily indicated that this won’t be an entirely loving interaction, at least going by how Soldier Boy handles Collins’ character.

At least that’s how it might come across to anyone who’s never written/spoken/embodied the word Destiel before. To those in the know, a little choking and roughhousing between these two is far closer to a dream scenario than anything antagonistic. More like Sold-rawr Boy, amirite?

No, not everyone buys into this character ship between Ackles' Dean Winchester and Collins' Castiel, or that it was made canonical in the final season before one of the most devastating deaths of Supernatural's run. Yes, an anti-Destiel crowd has long existed online. Yes, there are Boys viewers whose undies are in a bunch over SPN fans hijacking the conversation. But there's contrarianism everywhere you look online, and that's not what we're focusing on here. So on with the positivity!

These are exemplary of a much larger subsection of the commentary surrounding The Boys' trailer, although they're the more friendly-for-work comments as compared to other more lurid reactions.

Supernatural's Tumblr fame even re-entered the spotlight after the promo dropped and reinvigorated the shipdom and its most vocal proponents. And whoever's in charge of the site's social media gets kudos for acknowledging it.

Amusingly enough, with all the attention going to seeing Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins sharing the screen again, not as much of the talk has focused on the wildly gory outcome of that scene, in which Misha Collins' character is apparently turned into an unrecognizable pile of organs. Not the cleanest way to pay off on a long-awaited reunion.

And all the while, Jared Padalecki's character is just standing and watching from the side, which drew its own amusing reaction.

With the final season’s production wrap recently being celebrated by the crew, The Boys Season 5 will blast its way onto Prime Video starting on April 8, 2026. Meanwhile, fans looking for SUpernatural won’t find it at its former longtime home of Netflix, but rather using a Peacock subscription.

CBS is a prime place to be on the small screen when it comes to spooky programming, since not all networks nowadays will fully embrace Halloween. Admittedly, not all shows can feature a genuinely haunted house like Ghosts or cycle the lead through several Broadway-themed costumes like Elsbeth, but even the Tracker team found a way for Justin Hartley and Co. While the episode will technically air a couple of days after Halloween, I'd say that it still counts for CBS' tally of themed episodes!

The promo hypes it as a "special scary event," and it leaves me wishing that Jensen Ackles was still around for this episode. Once a Supernatural fan, always a Supernatural fan, I guess! Take a look at the preview for the episode, called "First Fire," that could add some spookiness to the usual Tracker suspense:

Admittedly, other than the narration, this doesn't look like a particularly spooky, Halloween-esque episode, but looks can be deceiving. The episode description from CBS sheds a bit more light, which makes it sound almost like Colter is on the case of a classic urban legend:

All this Heston Kootz needs is a hook hand, and I'd think that Tracker is deliberately leaning into classic scary stories. Colter surely has what it takes to tackle the case himself, but after Jensen Ackles appeared in the first two episodes of Season 3 as Russell Shaw, it hurts a little bit that he left ahead of the third episode that happens to be one that could deliver some Supernatural vibes.

Tracker didn't stay away from Supernatural Easter eggs in Ackles' first episode, and he doesn't seem determined to escape his Supernatural legacy. (There is one episode of Supernatural he'd likely want to forget, though.) It just would have been fun to see Ackles, who spent more than 300 episodes investigating monsters, ghosts, and demons on The CW, getting into the Halloween spirit on Tracker as Russell.

Of course, if the stars align and Tracker showrunner Elwood Reid has his way, we could indeed see a lot more of Ackles as Russell Shaw on the small screen. He recently shared that it's "always his dream" for the Supernatural vet to star in a Tracker spinoff. Prime Video's Countdown was unfortunately cancelled, so Ackles won't have more of that show on his dance card, but he's still set to star in Vought Rising for the streamer.

Whatever the future holds for Russell, fans can count on seeing Colter in action for the "special scary event." The "First Fire" episode airs on Sunday, November 2 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS, and will be available streaming next day with a Paramount+ subscription. The show cut down on its series regulars for the third season, so it should be interesting to see if that feels like a problem as Tracker moves past the premiere two-parter and into the regular season.

Tracker finally premiered its third season on Sunday on the 2025 TV schedule, and it was as intense as ever. Following the events of the Season 2 finale, which saw Colter (Justin Hartley) finding out that his mother was more or less responsible for the death of his father, Ashton, the trauma still hasn't subsided. Big brother Russell (Jensen Ackles) reconnected with his sib, and the two tried to help find a missing mother and her daughter while also dealing with what really happened to their dad. Not the most traditional form of coping.

The first part of the two-part Season 3 premiere gave audiences an emotional reunion after Russell finally tracked Colter down, and it’s the first time they’ve really spoken since the secret about their parents was revealed. But it’s not all great, as Russell shared he’s actually been in contact with their mom, though it’s not in the way fans may think. Showrunner Elwood Reid told TVLine that while Russell did briefly have contact with her, he has a different perspective about the whole situation than his brother:

For a long time, Colter believed that Russell was responsible for the death of their father, and it’s taken them a while for them to get back to normal over these first two seasons. But once Russell shared that someone else was on that cliff with Ashton that night, Colter wanted to dig deeper, and when he finally found out the truth, it was not easy.

Now that both brothers know the truth, and it was as shocking as ever, it’s not going to be easy going back to normal for the entire family. Of course, Mary’s lie won’t go away just like that, and it will continue throughout the season as Colter, Russell, and probably Dory (Melissa Roxburgh) work through what truly happened to their dad and strive to get more answers:

Since Tracker’s premiere, it’s been clear that the Shaw family is pretty complicated, but it’s now more complicated than ever. It’s unknown what exactly will happen as the two-part premiere continues next week, but Jensen Ackles will be appearing in multiple episodes of Season 3, and fans can likely expect more of their family history and drama to be aired out. Whether or not Roxburgh will be joining them is unknown, but it’s possible.

Fans will just have to wait and see how the secret continues to tear the Shaw family apart or keep some of them together when new episodes of Tracker air on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. There will be a lot more to look forward to, and no telling what will go down.

The Supernatural fandom has been buzzing about Jensen Ackles’ latest series, Countdown, which began streaming with an Amazon Prime subscription in June amid the 2025 TV schedule. Even before the show premiered, many SPN fans expressed excitement. Unfortunately, it seems that hype wasn't enough, as Amazon has officially canceled the show after one season. Now, Jared Padalecki, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and more are showing love to Ackles, who also spoke about the heartbreaking news.

How Jensen Ackles Reacted To The Cancellation News

Not long after news broke about the cancellation, Ackles, who played Detective Mark Meachum, took to Instagram to share a video to speak out about it. He further confirmed that Countdown didn’t get picked up for another season, and said it was a “bummer” since he had an “amazing time” making the series and working with the cast and crew. Ackles went on to thank creator Derek Haas, former Amazon TV head Vernon Sanders. The leading man also noted that it’s just the way the industry works while also expressing gratitude. He said:

Even though Countdown’s Rotten Tomatoes score wasn’t great, as it’s sitting at only 35% for the approval rating, it’s still a surprise that it was canceled, considering it had been lingering in Prime Video's Top 10 for a while. The show offered both action and drama, with Eric Dane and Jessica Camacho also amongst the cast members alongside Elliot Knight, Uli Latukefu and Violett Beane. The fact that Countdown’s first season ended on a cliffhanger makes the cancellation hurt even more. Having enjoyed the series, I am definitely bummed as well. At the very least, plenty of people are showing their love and support for Ackles in the aftermath of this unfortunate development.

Many of Ackles’ Supernatural and The Boys buddies took to the comments of his Instagram video along well as other famous friends. I'd imagine that a TV cancellation is rarely ever easy for an actor, but the notion of fellow actors showing love could be comforting. Check out some of the lovely comments sent Jensen Ackles' way:

It is sweet seeing so many people that Ackles has worked with and has remained close to sharing their support. Of course, I would very much prefer a world in which these comments are celebratory reactions to a second season of Countdown and not consolation over its cancellation.

At the very least, Jensen Ackles is remaining busy, as he’s set to appear in the third season of Tracker on CBS. He’s also working on The Boys prequel, Vought Rising, reprising his role as Soldier Boy. He is also returning for The Boys’ fifth and final season, which has yet to have a premiere date. Considering Ackles' star status, I wouldn't be surprised if he lands another role sooner rather than later. Still, I think I'm always going to wonder how Countdown's cliffhanger was going to be resolved.

The Boys world is expanding yet again with Vought Rising, with the action set during the early days of Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash). Those two reprising their roles from The Boys is enough to make this a stacked cast for any viewer with a Prime Video subscription; now, another four have been announced to join those two in the 1950s of that TV universe, including an SNL alum and an actress from the world of Westeros over on HBO.

In a very fitting move for a TV universe that spans genres, the new cast members hail from comedic, dramatic, and fantasy backgrounds. Count on seeing Cecily Strong, Mark Pellegrino, Eric Johnson, and Annie Shapero in Vought Rising, according to Deadline, although no details have been revealed yet at the time of writing about who they'll be playing in the midst of Ackles as Soldier Boy and Cash as Stormfront. Their roles will be recurring.

The most recognizable name is likely the musically-talented Cecily Strong, who was nominated for an Emmy multiple times for her work on SNL over eleven seasons until her departure in 2022. (She did make a cameo earlier in the 2025 TV schedule for the show's 50th anniversary.)

Mark Pellegrino is another newcomer to Vought Rising, most recently seen on TV with Jeff Daniels and Law & Order's Maura Tierney in American Rust, although a large demographic of viewers likely best remember him for his work as Lucifer in the Supernatural cast.

Annie Shapero technically has not yet debuted on House of the Dragon, as she was cast to play Alysanne "Black Aly" Blackwood for the third season. Considering that Black Aly is a fierce warrior in George R.R. Martin's world of Westeros source material, I'm wondering if this is a sign that Shapero will be part of action sequences in Vought Rising. She reacted to the announcement of her casting on Instagram, writing "SOMEBODY PINCH ME" in all-caps.

Last but not least, Eric Johnson is likely best known for his work in the Fifty Shades franchise, which of course makes me wonder if Vought Rising with have its own "Herogasm" storyline. On the small screen, he's been in projects including The Alienist, American Gods, and Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. He also reacted to the big news via his Instagram account, writing "Thrilled to be joining [The Boys] universe! 💥"

There's certainly plenty to celebrate for anybody joining the cast of a show in this world, since Jensen Ackles has proven that The Boys universe can bring characters back in pretty much any show, no matters its place in the timeline.

Not only did he debut in the contemporary The Boys, but he appeared in a surprise cameo for Gen V and of course will star in Vought Rising. The Countdown vet already teased how Vought Rising's Soldier Boy will be quite different from The Boys' version of Soldier Boy, however, so the new prequel presumably won't be just retreading old ground with the character.

In addition to these four newcomers, Ackles, and Aya Cash, Vought Rising stars Mason Dye, Will Hochman, KiKi Layne, Jordan Myrie, Nicolo Pasetti, Elizabeth Posey, Brian J. Smith, and Ricky Stafferi as series regulars. Production on the new series began in August, with no expected premiere date announced just yet. You can always stream both The Boys and Gen V on Prime Video to revisit the world of Vought as the wait continues!

The weeks are counting down until Tracker returns for Season 3 in the 2025 TV schedule, with a much smaller cast of series regulars this time around. On the plus side, Jensen Ackles is once again joining Justin Hartley as his on-screen brother, and he’ll actually be around for more episodes than I expected. As the show hypes the upcoming return on social media, I’m not even a little bit surprised to see that Supernatural fans wasted no time in finding connections to Ackles’ previous show.

Jensen Ackles’ Double Return To Tracker

Tracker will return with a two-part season premiere event spread across two weeks, with Jensen Ackles playing Russell Shaw in both. After news broke that he’d reunite with Justin Hartley for Season 3 after wrapping on Prime Video’s Countdown, I’d assumed it would be another one-off like his appearances in each of the first two seasons. Instead, it appears that Colter will have his brother on hand in a big way to start out Season 3.

Whether that’s because Russell is around to help or Russell is in need of help remains to be seen, but I’m on board with two episodes of Ackles opposite Hartley. (Both episodes with the Shaw brothers so far are available streaming with a Paramount+ subscription now.)

The first half of the premiere is called “The Process,” with CBS’ logline revealing that Russell will join Colter to try and track down the missing wife and child of one of Reenie’s clients in the wake of what he’d learned about his father’s death at the end of Season 2. Whatever happens in “The Process” presumably won’t go entirely according to plan, with the Shaw brothers racing to put an end to an underground operation in Part 2 of the premiere, called “Leverage.”

Fans Spot An Early Supernatural Reference

Tracker hasn’t shied away from nodding to Jensen Ackles’ fifteen seasons of Supernatural, with a bunch of Supernatural Easter eggs in just his first episode. Considering that Ackles celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Supernatural pilot almost exactly a month before the CBS show’s Season 3 premiere, the timing couldn’t be better for his time as Dean Winchester to be alluded to. Take a look at the video that had fans talking:

Admittedly, there’s no moment in the preview that’s as obvious as Russell climbing into an Impala or sleeping in a cheap motel room a la the Winchester brothers, but that didn’t stop Supernatural fans from hitting the comment section to weigh in on the rock-paper-scissors moment.

A running joke from back in Jensen Ackles’ CW days was that Dean almost always lost rock-paper-scissors because he almost always used scissors. Here are just some of the examples of Supernatural fans applying that lesson to Tracker in the Instagram comments (edited for clarity):

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki may have left their iconic Supernatural characters behind by this point in the 2025 TV schedule, but the two stars have proven to have sharp memories about their time on the show. In honor of the 20th anniversary of the pilot, which aired on September 13, 2005 on The WB, they opened up about which of the 327 total episodes stand out as the worst. While I was surprised by Padalecki's pick (and neither named the controversial series finale), I have to agree with both of their choices.

Jensen Ackles' Worst Episode

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles of course played Sam and Dean Winchester through some very high highs and very low lows over the course of fifteen seasons. Joined by longtime costar Misha Collins ahead of their on-screen reunion on The Boys, they spoke with EW about what went down over the years and what ultimately didn't work so well. When the Season 1 episode "Bugs" came up, Ackles revealed that he agrees with the fan consensus that it's pretty much the worst installment of the series. The Countdown star said:

"Bugs" was the eighth episode of Season 1 and aired back in 2005, so it says something that Ackles could still deem it as the worst of the series. Available streaming now with a Netflix subscription, "Bugs" brought Sam and Dean into the mix of a housing development under construction on sacred Native American lands when people start dying due to – you guessed it – bugs. It wasn't a great episode back in the day when the show was airing, and I'd guess that it really hasn't aged well.

The stars remember it less than fondly for other reasons, however, with Padalecki chiming in that they had "like 70,000 bees" on set to film. Based on what Ackles went on to say, those bees were not meant for showbiz. He shared:

On the plus side, neither of the actors had a bee allergy that could have resulted in disaster very early in the run of Supernatural, and they did have professionals on set to handle the bees. The problem? Bees aren't the most cooperative costars. Jared Padalecki recalled:

It's been a long time since I've seen "Bugs," but I definitely don't remember Sam and/or Dean gently guiding any of the bees away! And don't forget – this was back in 2005, so recording bee attacks in Supernatural's first season (on film, no less) is a far cry from all the VFX used for 9-1-1's bee-nado last year. I'm no Supernatural-esque prophet, but I feel comfortable saying that if a revival ever does happen with the stars, they won't be making "Bugs 2."

Jared Padalecki's Worst Episode

Jared Padalecki jumped forward in time from that unpopular 2005 episode for his worst episode, naming an arc that I'd also agree isn't one of Supernatural's strongest: the Leviathan in Season 7. Looking back to 2011 - 2012, the Fire Country actor said:

While Padalecki didn't name a specific one, Dick Roman was featured in six episodes of Season 7. If I had to guess, he was thinking of one of the last few, because I remember as a viewer being very tired of the dick jokes by the end of the arc. Ackles agreed with his on-screen brother, saying "It was a lot."

Well, a show that runs for 327 episodes isn't going to have 327 perfect installments! Considering the fandom that is still going strong five years after the finale and two decades after the premiere, there are clearly far more good than bad episodes. "Bugs" is also what I would say is one of just a few clunkers from the first season.

For so many years, Jensen Ackles was arguably most known for his Supernatural stretch, but the time since that show ended has seen him joining a variety of different projects, from Tracker to Countdown to The Boys. The actor is thankfully set to reprise his suped-up role of Soldier Boy for the latter’s fifth and final season, which wrapped filming in July, and he’ll be evolving the ego-driven character even more when the prequel Vought Rising is available to stream via Amazon Prime subscription.

No, Soldier Boy will not be the exact same hard-nosed asshat whenever fans catch up with his younger self in the new spinoff, and that sounds very encouraging to someone like me who kinda hates to love watching Ackles play such a prejudiced worm. For as much fun as it is to watch, the morally defunct character gets my blood boiling. So I’m happy that Ackles told Variety the character changes will be obvious to spot from one show to the next. In his words:

That explanation makes total sense, of course, as Soldier Boy's intolerance and anger weren't always so omnipresent within the V-addled supe. At least, that's what would might assume, although it's admittedly hard to assume anything positive about any of the characters that have ever been aligned with Vought International. I'm wondering how the reunion with his former SPN co-stars will go in that respect, and am hoping that Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins are both squarely on the protagonists' side.

Ackles shared more light details about what fans can expect to see from his more youthful era 70+ years before The Boys' current timeline, saying:

Never "innnocence" with this guy. But maybe more playfulness and a slice of charm perhaps? Not that the actor is capable of delivering a performance completely free from charm.

For as much as I'm pumped that we wont' be watching solely the worst possible version of Soldier Boy in Vought Rising, Jensen Ackles did deflate that balloon a little bit by making it clear that the performances won't be like night and day, and that we'll see the character's habit and behaviors forming as we watch.

Neither The Boys Season 5 nor Vought Rising have release dates set, and neither will likely arrive before the 2025 TV schedule has gone belly-up. But franchise fans cand definitely look forward to the upcoming superhero series Gen V dropping its long-awaited Season 2 on September 17.

Jensen Ackles was back on the small screen over the summer of the 2025 TV schedule, but not for another return to the world of Supernatural or The Boys. He stars in the action-packed Countdown, hailing from Chicago Fire creator Derek Haas and also starring Grey's Anatomy's Eric Dane, Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Elliot Knight, and Uli Latukefu. The drama is just days away from the Season 1 finale thanks to Countdown releasing episodes weekly instead of all at once to binge. Now, after the penultimate episode, Ackles' comments about how Countdown compares to his other projects and needing viewers to "care" are paying off.

I was fortunate enough to speak with Jensen Ackles and the rest of the Countdown team earlier this summer before it was available to stream with an Amazon Prime Video subscription. Having seen Ackles in Supernatural, The Boys, and even Big Sky, I asked how he would pitch the show to somebody who knew him best from other projects. At the time, he shared:

There are no literal demons in Countdown like he faced on Supernatural, and certainly no "Herogasm" event like what happened on The Boys, so Countdown is a departure from the genre projects that Ackles is best known for. The high stakes were clear from the start, however, and the penultimate episode of Season 1 ending with the identities of the task force members exposed to a killer sets the stage for a dangerous finale. The actor went on to share what he and showrunner/creator/writer Derek Haas (formerly of several shows in the Dick Wolf TV universe) talked about before making the show:

Admittedly, casting and then killing off Milo Ventimiglia was a pretty great way to immediately make audiences care about the show, with so many TV fans loving him for his work on This Is Us. But as somebody who has watched a lot of crime TV shows in my day, I wasn't entirely sold on whether the show could make me deeply care about the characters. Enjoy the action and adventure? Sure.

The cliffhanger at the end of Episode 12 last week was enough for me to realize that, yes, I've somehow become a lot more invested in the survival of the characters that I'd realized. Even though the episode ended without anybody's life in imminent danger or explosions or bullets flying in the final moments, the cliffhanger was enough to get me on the edge of my seat ahead of the finale.

Most of the task force was lured into a situation by a killer who could predict their every move, and their lives are in serious danger now that he knows who they are. Not every member was there, but given that this is a show that has killed people off in the past, not much seems off limits for the finale. Do I think it'll be a blood bath with most of the characters dead? No, but I'm invested in finding out. Congratulations to Jensen Ackles and Derek Haas, because mission accomplished at least with me – I care about these people.

The first twelve episodes of Countdown are available streaming with a Prime Video subscription now, with the Season 1 finale releasing on Wednesday, September 3. Derek Haas didn't debunk the possibility of a second season when we spoke earlier in the summer, so we can only wait and see if Jensen Ackles and Co. return for a Season 2. That assumes everybody survives the upcoming finale, anyway!

Jensen Ackles’ new show, Countdown (which is currently available with an Amazon Prime subscription), has made him a prominent name on the 2025 TV schedule, and he is staying as busy as ever. So, between that, his upcoming appearance on the third season of Tracker, the new The Boys prequel Vought Rising, and the final season of The Boys, he seems to be everywhere these days. He’s also done quite a lot over the years, including, of course, Supernatural, which he was on for 15 years. Considering all of that, fans were asked what he’s most recognizable from, and I’m happy that they aren’t all saying SPN.

Between Supernatural, Smallville, Dawson’s Creek, The Boys, and many, many more, it’s hard to believe just how many projects Ackles has been in, and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. And because of his extensive filmography, people know him from different things. The actor recently threw the first pitch for a Toronto Blue Jays game, and the official MLB X account asked fans where they recognized him from. There are a lot of responses, and it really shows just how much he’s been in:

It's fun to see what people know him from, and I love that it isn't just Supernatural. Of course, that one would be the most common one, considering the series ran for 15 seasons and spawned a prequel that he was also part of. So, it’s great to see the legacy that Supernatural has, even almost five years after it ended.

However, there are so many other projects he's been a part of that are worth calling out, too. And that includes deep cuts such as My Bloody Valentine 3D, and even Days of Our Lives, the latter of which my mom knows him from.

I also love the fact that fans are pointing out his most recent projects, such as Countdown. The series only premiered on Prime earlier this summer. However, a lot of Supernatural fans were excited to watch it simply because Ackles was in it. But it seems the series has drawn in a lot of other non-SPN fans, and I'm here for it.

That being said, Supernatural will always reign supreme. Ackles spent a good chunk of his life on that show. Whether or not it will ever get a reboot is unknown, but both he and Jared Padalecki have shared their thoughts on what they want in a revival. Plus, the two are reuniting on the upcoming fifth and final season of The Boys, along with Misha Collins.

So, as we wait to see if that ever happens, it's nice to see the actor in other projects and to see said projects getting a lot of love:

Ackles did well pre-Supernatural and is continuing to do well post-Supernatural. Thanks to streaming, people are also able to discover him and that beloved CW series. Although SPN is one of the most rewatchable shows ever, his role as Dean Winchester is not the only great role he’s played. And all this talk is making me want to go back and rewatch his other projects.

Supernatural will reach its 20^th anniversary in September, just a couple of months before the five-year anniversary of the show’s series finale. Since the show is streaming with a Netflix subscription, fans can have easy access to all fifteen seasons as they continue to hope for a SPN revival. As the show approaches its big anniversary, Jensen Ackles opened up about one of the best aspects of Supernatural’s legacy, and I’m in my feels.

While I didn’t get into SPN until 2017 when the show was in the middle of its 12^th season, I have seen firsthand what this whole legacy means to the appropriately named SPN Family. Ackles, who portrayed Dean Winchester on The CW drama for all fifteen seasons, spoke to Collider about the series, revealing that one of the “great things” Supernatural gave him has been hearing stories about how it resonated with fans and how people find “comfort” in it, no matter what the Winchester brothers and Team Free Will were dealing with:

Personally, one of the reasons why I love television so much is because it’s an escape, and I love that Ackles knows fans see Supernatural that way. Even though there are a lot of dark moments on the show, it can also be funny and sweet, and that's something that a lot of people can focus on if they don’t want to deal with the real world. Ackles’ comments about what people say about Supernatural are getting me emotional, especially knowing that if not for the fans, there's no saying how long the show would have ran for. He said:

Supernatural ended its run at fifteen seasons and over 250 episodes, capping at 327. Not only is that rare today, but it’s also rare for a show on The CW. The network isn’t nearly as big as ABC, NBC, Fox, or CBS, but that didn’t stop people from still watching and keeping the show on the air.

This makes the stories from fans all the more special because they truly cared about the show and still care about the show after all this time, and I honestly feel like crying after hearing what it means to Ackles:

Even though Supernatural’s attempts at a spinoff were mostly unsuccessful, the show will forever have a lasting legacy that will never go away. The bond between the actors and fans will also never go away. It's one of the most rewatchable shows ever, and the Winchester brothers will always be around. SPN will be there for fans old and new as a form of escape, and I am forever grateful to have this show.

Jensen Ackles has busy lately, going from the fifth and final season of The Boys to his new Prime show, Countdown, which is airing on the 2025 TV schedule. On top of that, he has Tracker Season 3 on his plate as well as the upcoming The Boys prequel, Vought Rising. Aside from his professional commitments as an actor, Ackles has been balancing parent duties with wife Danneel Ackles, with whom he shares three kids. As Ackles' eldest daughter, Justice “JJ,” gets older, she wants to watch Countdown or The Boys, and her pop has funny thoughts.

Having a kid who is almost a teenager not only means dealing with the typical growing pains that accompany adolescence. It also means a parent enters murkier territory when it comes to what's appropriate and inappropriate content for their growing tween to watch. Jense Ackles told People that his oldest daughter is very eager to watch Countdown, and it sounds like he'll only be able to deny his 12-year-old's request but so much longer:

Honestly, fact that his daughter is wanting to watch Countdown is pretty great, but what I also find funny is that Ackles is seemingly getting close to caving. I can’t blame J.J. for her enthusiasm, though, because Countdown is good. On the other hand, I can see Jensen's hesitation, though, given he does perform some intense stunts on the show. Supernatural, on the other hand, can vary when it comes to how scary or mature it's content is. (If there ever is an R-rated revival someday, however, that might be a different story.)

Speaking of R-rated, Ackles already knows that his daughter is not getting anywhere near The Boys, which is very raunchy and racy as can be. Even at 28, I’m still a bit unsure of some of the stuff that comes across my screen when I watch the series. When it comes to his daughter watching the wild, comic book adaptation, Ackles made his position humorously clear:

The Boys can be very intense, and it's absolutely not for children. After all, episodes have included an octopus lover storyline, a massive penis prop and plenty of other raunchy scenes that are just too absurd to name. There's also the whole “Herogasm” plot, so it makes sense that Ackles wants his daughter to steer clear of the series for as long as humanly possible.

At least Jensen Ackles might soon give in to Countdown, which is definitely a more age-appropriate than The Boys. Part of me also feels like if the actor doesn't allow it, his daughter might find her own way to watch it. I'm personally excited for a time at which J.J. will be old enough to watch all of his past work whether it be scary, action-packed or raunchy.

Stream Countdown and The Boys now using a Prime Video subscription. While they may not be optimal options for young children, a number of adults will surely get a kick out of the shows.

Tracker has made some big cast changes ahead of returning for Season 3 in the fall of the 2025 TV schedule, with the departures of Abby McEnany and Eric Graise leaving Justin Hartley and Fiona Rene as the only two series regulars left. Fortunately, cast cuts don't mean familiar faces can't return, and Countdown's Jensen Ackles has confirmed that he'll be back as Russell Shaw for Season 3. With that good news, I can't help but think it'd be great to see Hartley as a guest star on Ackles' Countdown if it returns for Season 2 on Prime Video.

Jensen Ackles' Return To Countdown

The timing couldn't be better for the official news that Jensen Ackles will reprise his role as Russell Shaw opposite Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw, as the Supernatural vet recently shared what it's like working with the This Is Us alum. No details are available about Russell's next appearance other than that filming so early likely means he'll appear sooner rather than later in Season 3... and Russell will still have a beard, based on the fun video. Well, credit to Jensen Ackles for mastering the art of dropping news without giving away any spoilers, because he didn't even say the word "Tracker" in his video! Any eagle-eyed viewer can be left with no doubt, however. Even if we considered the possibility that Ackles would somehow have taken on a totally different character on a different show who just also happens to be named Russell, the actor does slightly pan the camera over to see Hartley's "Colter" trailer.

Without much to go on to speculate, I can't help but also note that Ackles made sure to shout out the latest episode of Countdown, available streaming now with a Prime Video subscription. While the action-packed drama has yet to be renewed for Season 2, I think Justin Hartley needs to make a guest appearance if it does.

Could Justin Hartley Appear On Countdown Season 2?

Considering that Countdown kicked off by introducing and then killing a character played by Milo Ventimiglia, the This Is Us connection alone would make an appearance by Justin Hartley pretty fun. That's not to say he'd need to be killed off, but even a cameo might be enough. Plus, Ackles and Hartley are both alums of long-running shows on The WB/The CW. Hartley played Oliver Queen on Smallville, while Ackles had stints on Dawson's Creek and Smallville before landing his beloved role as Dean Winchester on Supernatural.

Clearly, the two have both come a long way from their days as CW stars, and with Jensen Ackles appearing on Tracker, why not Hartley on Countdown? Ackles seemingly has a packed schedule with Countdown, his The Boys spinoff, and now dropping in and out of Tracker from time to time. Surely Hartley could have a break in his Tracker calendar for even a tiny cameo, right?

Well, I can always hope! For now, fans of Jensen Ackles can just cross their fingers that Countdown is renewed for a second season, while Tracker viewers can keep counting down the days until the CBS drama returns in October.

After Tracker’s second season finale dug deeper into the complicated Shaw family history and revealed that Colter’s mother was responsible for his father’s death, Season 3 will likely continue to open up those wounds on the 2025 TV schedule. This hopefully means bringing back Colter’s siblings, including his brother Russell, who is played by Jensen Ackles. Even amid his busy schedule with Prime Video’s new crime drama Countdown and the upcoming The Boys prequel Vought Rising, he’s still making time for Tracker. Having appeared in a few episodes in earlier seasons, Ackles is opening up about what it’s really like working with pal Justin Hartley.

It may be surprising to know that Hartley and Ackles have actually known each other for quite a long time, and it’s actually one of the reasons why the Supernatural star is playing Russell in the first place. While the two were both on Smallville, Ackles’ character Jason Teague was long dead once Hartley’s version of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow came around, they were still on The CW at the same time and had likely become close through the various events they attended together.

For Ackles, he loves working with Hartley and playing his brother after knowing him for so long, as he told TV Insider:

Even though it’s still weird to see Ackles playing an older brother to someone other than Jared Padalecki, it has been fun to see his dynamic with someone else after all these years. And it’s better knowing how long Ackles and Hartley have known each other, which is why they make a great team, even with their strained on-screen relationship. But that’s not the only reason why Ackles loves working with Hartley on Tracker:

It’s been exciting to see Jensen Ackles and Justin Hartley portray brothers. And now that Colter knows what he knows about his dad, it’s hard to predict how things will go down with Russell once he knows, especially since it was thought for a long time that he had something to do with their father’s death. It’s unknown how many episodes Ackles will be appearing in for Season 3, but it sounds like he’s looking forward to working with Hartley again and exploring more about the Shaw family.

With Ackles saying there's "probably a good chance" he'll be coming back for Season 3, there is still the question of whether or not Melissa Roxburgh will make an appearance as Colter and Russell’s sister, Dory. Just like Ackles, Roxburgh has been pretty busy with her own show, The Hunting Party, which is coming back for Season 2 this fall on NBC. It might be hard to bring her back, even for just one episode, but nothing is off the table yet.

If anything, fans will be able to look forward to probably seeing Russell Shaw back on their screens come Season 3 this fall, and he and Colter have a lot to catch up on. Tracker Season 3 premieres on Sunday, October 19 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Meanwhile, the first two seasons are streaming with a Paramount+ subscription.

Jensen Ackles has been starring in Prime Video’s newest series, Countdown, on the 2025 TV schedule, and the series is keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. The crime drama from Chicago Fire’s Derek Haas is only six episodes in, but already, Countdown has proved its worth. And it’s partly because of the insane action sequences. Ackles previously got real about the stunts performed on the show, and now he’s opening up about his favorite action scene that sticks out more than anything on The Boys.

The Supernatural alum is no stranger to doing stunts, having spent 15 years getting beaten up by and beating up demons and other supernatural creatures. Then there’s The Boys, which really turns up the action and stunts with superheroes and explosions, and now Countdown. The most recent episodes have involved his character, Detective Mark Meechum, going head-to-head with criminals and surfing on top of a truck. When asked by TVLine which stunt he preferred, Ackles couldn’t help but give love to both while also sharing just how exhilarating one was:

The fact that Ackles actually does the stunts and does not have a stunt double, at least when it comes to certain action sequences, is pretty impressive. This type of work is certainly not easy. Of course, he’s done a lot of insane stunts on The Boys that involves fighting, superpowers, flying, and even temporarily dying. But I don’t think anything really compares to surfing on a truck and trying to not actually fall off. Ackles recalled what it was like filming that sequence, and it really makes me appreciate stunts and stunt performers a whole lot more:

It should be pointed out that during all these crazy things that Ackles’ character is having to deal with and the people that he has to fight and find and take down, he is also dealing with migraines and is hiding a massive brain tumor. Obviously, Ackles is completely fine, but knowing that at any point Mark Meechum could be getting seriously hurt to the point of no return makes the stunts all the more excruciating to watch, but probably exhilarating to perform.

There are still a handful of episodes to look forward to with Countdown, and there is no telling what else will be in store as the City of Los Angeles continues to be in danger. Considering Ackles seems to enjoy these crazy stunts, he’s probably looking forward to doing more when filming on The Boys prequel Vought Rising starts, even if it can’t compare to being on top of a truck.

Meanwhile, new episodes of Countdown drop on Wednesdays with an Amazon Prime subscription. Fans will be able to see more of Ackles in the upcoming fifth and final season of The Boys when he reprises his role as Soldier Boy.

Despite running for an incredible 15 seasons, Supernatural was still wildly popular, and almost certainly could have kept going for at least another couple of seasons if the stars had the will to continue. Whatever they end up doing in their careers, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki will all but certainly be known for this show above all others.

And considering how frequently popular TV shows from years gone by get remade, rebooted, or straight up revived, one has to wonder if such a thing will be possible here. Andrew Dabb, the showrunner for the final three seasons of the show, tells TV Insider that in his mind, it’s not even a question of if, simply when. Debb said…

The man has a point. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is getting a reboot. That's a show that, while still incredibly popular, seemed incredibly unlikely to return, especially with Sarah Michelle Gellar involved. And yet, it's happening. If Buffy can come back, it can happen to anybody.

While the Supernatural finale left things in a good, though divisive, place, as Andrew Dabb says, there’s nothing in that ending that prevents a new adventure from popping up for Sam and Dean. Besides, when God is a potential character, nothing is off the table. There are still plenty of supernatural monsters, angels, and demons who could be at the center of a new story. Dabb even comes up with an opening scene, seemingly from the top of his head. Dabb suggested…

While there may be better or worse ideas for an opening, a setup like that would certainly be intriguing. The real question of whether or not a revival would work would likely be answered in the scenes that followed, explaining just what was going on.

Dabb is almost certainly correct in his basic assessment, that at some point, in some form, Supernatural will return. Whether the two main stars are part of it or not, and whether bringing it back is even a good idea, will only be determined once somebody decides that it’s time to bring it back. Although, since it’s only been five years since the show wrapped up its run, that day is probably still at least a little ways off.

This year not only marks five years since Supernatural ended, but also the 20^th anniversary of the long-running CW series. The show remains a favorite to this day, especially for those with a Netflix subscription. The cast still remains close, too, and their upcoming reunion on The Boys is proof of that. But would Supernatural ever make a return in the form of a revival? Fans have been wanting an R-rated streaming reboot, and now, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have shared their thoughts on the matter.

Supernatural’s finale left fans divided, both with how the story ended and who was or wasn’t included. But that isn’t stopping people from still hoping that the show would come back in some way, shape, or form, and they aren’t the only ones. Over a year ago, Padalecki explained how he would want the series to come back, and his answer hasn’t changed while chatting with TV Insider about SPN’s anniversary:

Considering Supernatural ran for 15 seasons and very likely could have gone another 15 had the boys not decided that it was time to say goodbye, it makes sense that another full-blown show wouldn’t be on the table. A limited series gives fans just enough to see what the Winchesters are up to and what happened following the finale, either taking the show to Heaven or to a parallel universe, like on The Winchesters.

As for what kind of format the show would get, Ackles has some ideas, and it involves a much grittier and R-rated version. There’s only so much that can be included on a network television show. And Supernatural would be epic if it could go even harder, and if the “Ghostfacers” episode from Season 3 is any indication, I think Sam and Dean would love to take advantage of being able to swear. Not only that, but the tone would be drastically different, as the Dean actor explained:

Now, I'd sure love to see that. However, it’s unknown if a revival will ever happen.

It's not out of the question, though, considering these guys' enthusiasm and the number of reboots and spinoffs on TV right now. In fact, Criminal Minds: Evolution has been flourishing on Paramount+ with its NSFW change and darker narratives while still being the Criminal Minds fans know and love. Plus, the Supernatural fandom doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon, so it’s always possible a revival will happen in the future.

At the very least, as previously mentioned, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins will be joining Jensen Ackles on the fifth and final season of The Boys. This means that fans will be able to see them in a more NSFW setting, and it will probably be the complete opposite of Supernatural, but still as entertaining as ever. Filming has completed on The Boys, so it’s only just a matter of time before it eventually premieres with an Amazon Prime subscription.

In the meantime, I'll be thinking about what could happen on this R-rated version of Supernatural.

The Boys has completed filming its fifth and final season, meaning that it'll be streaming Amazon Prime subscription sooner rather than later, even if it'll miss the 2025 TV schedule. Without much known about Season 5, much of the hype has circled around the much-anticipated Supernatural reunion bringing Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins back together on-screen for the first time since SPN’s finale in 2020. Ackles opened up about how weird it was working with his former co-stars again for the raunchy superhero series, and as a fan of both, I agree.

While it’s been confirmed that Padalecki and Collins will be appearing in the final season of The Boys alongside Ackles, who will reprise his role as Soldier Boy, details surrounding their characters have been kept under wraps. Creator Eric Kripke, who also created Supernatural, previously admitted what it was like seeing the reunion, and Ackles has even shared that it was like being home.

That being said, The Boys is not akin to Supernatural by any means, and not just because of the tonal nature of the shows are so vastly different. Ackles told People what it was like having Padalecki and Collins on set of The Boys, and I can definitely see where he’s coming from:

Considering Ackles is no stranger to The Boys, unlike Padalecki and Collins, it makes sense why he would feel that way, especially knowing they can get into it. It’s even more pressure knowing that this is the first time they’ve acted together on-screen since 2020. But that’s what makes it exciting, even if it was weird for Ackles’ “house” to be invaded. He did direct an episode of Walker and guest starred, so now he knows how Padalecki felt.

Even though it’s unknown in what capacity Padalecki and Collins will be appearing in on The Boys, it can be assumed that they will have at least one or two scenes with Ackles. Fans can also probably expect a reference or two to Supernatural, and maybe even the opportunity to retcon the divisive series finale. Whatever happens, though, it will be nice to see the three of them together again. Although they frequently reunite at fan conventions, acting together is different.

More information about The Boys’ final season should be announced soon, but the wait will be worth it with the Supernatural reunion. There’s also no telling what else the new season will consist of and how this crazy story will wrap up. Luckily, with a new season of Gen V premiering soon and Ackles’ new prequel series Vought Rising releasing in the near future, there will be a lot more to look forward to.

Jensen Ackles is keeping these days. The Supernatural alum can currently be seen in his new Prime Video show, Countdown, which just debuted amid the 2025 TV schedule. Ackles is also reprising his role as Soldier Boy for the upcoming fifth and final season of The Boys. Ackles will play that character once more in the spinoff show, Vought Rising, as well. While filming has not yet started on the new show, Ackles is pumped about reprising the role for the upcoming offshoot, and he made a good point while explaining why.

It was announced last summer that The Boys would receive another spinoff, this time in the form prequel centered on Ben/Soldier Boy and Aya Cash’s Stormfront that takes place in 1950s New York City. The show will also cover the “humble yet diabolical beginnings of Vought Corporation.” With Ackles once again returning as Vought’s first supe, fans will have the opportunity to learn more about the character. Jensen Ackles is obviously playing the same role but, as he told Collider, fans will get to see Ben in a new light:

Ackles makes a good point in that his character is usually depicted as a world-weary vet who's disillusioned with being outside of his time. That puts him in the position of being the "old man" amongst the primary characters on The Boys. Considering that, it will be refreshing to see Ben amongst people that also hail from his time period.

This upcoming prequel series is a testament to just how much life The Boys still has as a franchise. Aside from the prequel, fellow spinoff Gen V is returning for Season 2. I have to say, though, that Vought Rising really has my attention, as I'm eager to see the beginnings of the eponymous organization. The fact that we'll get to see a somewhat different version of Soldier Boy could also allow the writers -- and Jensen Ackles himself -- to add some fresh layers to the character.

As of now, it’s unknown when Vought Rising will premiere or who else will star in the show. Despite that, I'm still hopeful for the project. Also, considering the raunchiness and goriness of its parent show, I wouldn't be surprised if Vought is on the same wavelength.

Jensen Ackles made his debut as Soldier Boy, who's a parody of Captain America, during The Boys Season 3. While it seemed like his character was done for in the finale, he made a surprise appearance in the Season 4 finale, revealing that he is indeed still alive, albeit in a pod of sorts. I'm eager to see how he causes more trouble in Season 5 -- and to see Ackles reunite with Supernatural co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, who are guest starring.

When it comes to Vought Rising, I'm pumped to see what lies ahead for Ackles Soldier Boy on that series. Hopefully, big reveals are on the horizon. In the meantime, stream the first four seasons of The Boys using a Prime Video subscription, before its fifth and final season arrives sometime in 2026.

While I’m personally most invested in seeing Jensen Ackles’ return as The Boys’ Soldier Boy in the superhero satire’s upcoming Vought Uprising spinoff, the actor has another high-stakes series that’ll hopefully keep his fanbase sated throughout the summer months. Ackles is heading up the dramatic thriller Countdown, whose first three episodes became available with an Amazon Prime subscription, with the rest of the eps hitting the 2025 TV schedule weekly.

Ackles stars as LAPD detective Mark Meachum during what is likely the most hectic time of the investigator’s life. He’s pulled into a task force whose goal is to not only track down a murderer, but also to identify and then stop a massive threat that’s targeting Los Angeles. Not to mention his own nagging medical issue: Mark was diagnosed with a brain tumor, so he’s racing the clock in every which way.

Despite his ailing health, Mark doesn’t shy away from getting his hands dirty, and to that end, Jensen Ackles didn’t balk at taking on the series’ stunts as much as possible, despite not exactly having everyone’s confident support on the set. Speaking with Collider, the actor said there were some initial naysayers who didn’t grasp how genuine his eagerness was in regards to getting physical in the role. In his words:

Now, no judgment passed on any of the stunt coordinators or any producers who were likely hesitant to give Ackles full permission to handles any stunts he wanted. It wouldn't do anyone any good for the actor to accidentally injure himself filming the first episode if his character is still meant to look like an action hero for the rest of the season. That's a definite worst-case scenario.

Ackles amusingly pointed out how others react whenever he's holding his own during a stunt sequence, saying:

Understandably, with Ackles being in his mid-40s, he has a good idea of what kinds of action sequences he's able to handle, and which ones he's maybe willing to take a risk on. He's also at a point in his career where, if he potentially has an idea for how to tweak a scene or stunt to lean more into his favor, he has the clout to theoretically bring about change.

Actors can often develop unique friendly relationships with their stunt doubles, and it's not uncommon for specific pairs to continue working together from one project to the next. After all, that kind of partnership is one that revolves entirely around trust, with both performers' safety at the center of it all. It's probably a great thing for all involved that Ackles is more risk-averse now than he was during Supernatural's heyday.

Beyond serving as a traditional drama between Ackles' Soldier Boy performances, Countdown also serves as what could be one of co-star Eric Dane's final leading TV roles after his ALS diagnosis. (Ackles had nothing but praise for Dane at the series' premiere screening event.) Only time will tell what happens there, and only Amazon's execs will be able to tell whether or not Countdown will get a second season.

Ackles told People that Dane is “incredibly resilient,” and watching him handle the recent news about his health has made Ackles “proud.” He said:

However, that wasn’t his primary concern when he spoke to Variety on the red carpet at the Countdown premiere, saying:

It also became clear that Jensen Ackles wasn’t the only member of Countdown’s cast and crew to think highly of Eric Dane. Creator and EP Derek Haas weighed in on what he’s seen from the actor since April, saying:

What Eric Dane is going through has got to be devastating for him and his family, and it is inspiring to see him continuing to work and speaking so openly about his experience. It’s also sweet to hear how much love he’s getting from his co-stars and others around him.

I’m sure there are lots of actors and others with famed talent who did some things to make money and get started in their careers who wish that certain potentially embarrassing early projects would just disappear. But, in an age where anything can be put online and live forever, that’s just not going to happen in many cases.

Jensen Ackles (who just finished filming a bit of a Supernatural reunion with Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins for The Boys’ upcoming fifth and final season) found that out the hard way recently. He paid a visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote his new series, Countdown, on the 2025 TV schedule (which can be streamed with an Amazon Prime subscription) and was shocked to find that the host had done some digging into his pre-pre-pre-Dean Winchester days as a ‘90s teen model. At first, Ackles was confused by hearing that he’d had a “modeling career” (as seen in the photo atop this article), but then he was hit with the reality of his time working for the JC Penney catalog:

Wow. Does he look ashamed or what? I have to say, this isn’t as bad as it was going to get during this segment, so he could have saved this hang-dog look for later. As it is, being seen smiling and rocking out to some ‘90s tunes (for some reason, I imagine he’s listening to Vanilla Ice) at around 13 to 14 years old isn’t that bad. At least he made some money, right? Well, the humiliation continued:

Oh, boy. To me, this is the pinnacle of embarrassment. Listen, there are no fashion eras that pass without the youth who had to suffer through those eras growing up and knowing that they’d be horrified by some of the sartorial choices that were either made for them or that they made themselves. Here, of course, the former Days of Our Lives actor was wearing clothes as work, but still…it’s not great. What’s that you say? You need a closer look? I shall humbly oblige…

He appears to be biting down on a popsicle here, which I don’t think any real people actually do. Although, young Mr. Ackles does seem rather dead-eyed and befuddled in this photo, so who knows what was going on. I do now wonder if this is just how he actually ingests popsicles, but I guess that’s a topic for a different article. At any rate, this is a dude that Dean (whose adventures you can revisit with a Netflix subscription) would 1000% make fun of, regardless of age. OK, I know this is the picture that appears to be the least mortifying, but with the star over his initial feelings of embarrassment, he’s fully playing along. Apparently, he believes that this pose was purposely modeled after one Mr. Joey Tribbiani from Friends, because he thinks it’s his “How you doin’?” look. There may be nothing more purely ‘90s than that.

Jensen Ackles is continuing his streak of new post-Supernatural shows in the 2025 TV schedule with Countdown, an action-packed drama series with sky-high stakes releasing on Prime Video. This isn't his first streaming venture or even his first series on the platform after The Boys, but he and co-star Eric Dane spoke with CinemaBlend about why Countdown benefits from a weekly release schedule, like a seemingly increasing number of other series, instead of releasing the full season at once.

Jensen Ackles was paired with Eric Dane for our interview during Prime Video's Countdown press junket, and between nearly 140 episodes of ABC's Grey's Anatomy for Dane and more than 325 episodes of The CW's Supernatural for Ackles, the two stars know what they're talking about when it comes to weekly episode releases.

When I asked why that model is a good fit for Countdown with LAPD Detective Mark Meachum (Ackles) working with Nathan Blythe (Dane) on a task force to save the city of Los Angeles, Dane said that he thinks "it's a 'I want to show up and watch it on the day' television show." Ackles elaborated:

As somebody who has been covering television long enough that I recall when streaming was still a novelty, I certainly feel the Winchesters alum's pain when it comes to just not having time to binge-watch all the hottest new shows before spoilers are everywhere nowadays. There's just too much on too many platforms to marathon entire seasons on a regular basis... if you want to fit sleep into your schedule, anyway.

Thankfully – as far as I'm concerned, anyway – Prime Video is leaning into the traditional weekly model vs. the binge model for Countdown, and I love that fans will have the opportunity to mull over events, debate episodes, and come up with theories that may or may not be spectacularly wrong. I'm surely not the only fan of what Ackles described as the "swing back" from the model of releasing full seasons at once, either. Why binge when you can savor?

Ackles was a familiar face on primetime broadcast network TV even before Supernatural with shows like Dark Angel and Smallville, as well as after the long-running show's end with Big Sky and even Tracker. Throw in nearly 550 episodes of Days of Our Lives, and not many people can claim as much network TV experience as Ackles.

Prime Video releasing episodes of Countdown weekly of course doesn't mean that it'll feel like a show that could air on network TV, but fans can enjoy the rush for multiple weeks rather than finishing it in one fell swoop or getting spoiled. He went on:

Eric Dane chimed in to say that "I like the pace of that," so the consensus between the stars was clear: this show is a good fit for ten episodes spread out over a couple of months. While Countdown is releasing weekly, the new series will premiere the first three episodes on June 25 for any viewers with an Amazon Prime Video subscription.

I won't drop any spoilers here, but having watched them myself, I'd say that they make for a great trio to kick off the series while also setting the stage for heightened drama moving forward. Jensen Ackles and Eric Dane are joined in the Countdown cast by Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Elliot Knight, and Uli Latukefu, with Chicago Fire's Derek Haas on board as creator, showrunner, and writer of all ten episodes.

The first three episodes of Countdown premiere on Wednesday, June 25 on Prime Video, with subsequent episodes continuing to release on Wednesdays through early September. Physical water coolers may be a thing of the past for many people, but this model will give viewers the chance to drag out the action over months instead of just ten hours, and plenty to talk about.

The Boys Season 3 cast saw Ackles join the fray as the Captain America parody, Soldier Boy, and it was confirmed back in late February that the trio of Supernatural talent is reuniting for the anticipated final season. As the erstwhile Dean Winchester recently said during an appearance on The Tonight Show, when taken at face value, this simply seemed like a great idea:

It appears that this was considered a potential issue here, especially because The Boys isn’t their territory in the same way Supernatural was after 15 years. Ackles added:

Yeah, while the star admitted that working with his two friends again felt like “being home,” no one wants it to feel like home so much that folks are leaving the toilets unflushed. Listen, I’m sure that Jared Padalecki is a lovely man who would never actually dare to leave an unflushed toilet behind. But, if his currently undisclosed character is that kind of trash goblin, well, he’ll totally fit right in!

As Prime Video subscription holders wait for the fifth and final season of The Boys, sweet teases and behind-the-scenes details are being shared by the cast and crew. Regardless of whether that happens, as a fan, I'm just excited to see the three actors to share the screen again.

The Boys’ final season is currently set to be released in 2026 and, unsurprisingly, a specific release date has yet to be announced at this point. Even though fans have to wait for more Soldier Boy, there's more content featuring Jensen Ackles on the way. Fans can keep occupied by watching Ackles’ newest series, Countdown. The series, which also stars Eric Dane and Jessica Camacho, will premiere on June 25 on Prime Video, and Supernatural fans cannot get enough of Ackles.

I'm hopeful that the Supernatural reunion on The Boys will be worth the wait. Eric Kripke is a shrewd producer, and I'd imagine that he would bring Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins together without having a good reason. For now, know that all 15 seasons of The CW show are streamable with a Netflix subscription. And of course, do yourself a favor by preparing for the final season of the superhero show by watching the first four.

I don’t know which is better: The fact that Garcia’s mother flirted with Ackles in the first place, or that she did it in full view of her husband and daughter. Not even moms are able to resist the Ackles charm, and it is pretty funny to learn how this went down.

Luckily, the flirting didn’t do any harm, and now Garcia has a funny story to tell for years to come. It just makes me wonder if Ackles remembers that, although there’s a more-than-good chance that Garcia’s mother was not the first or last parent to shamelessly flirt with him on set.

Meanwhile, even after all these years, Jensen Ackles is still keeping people on their toes. With his upcoming Prime Video series Countdown coming out later this month, fans have been thirsting quite a lot over his new role. The Supernatural family was bringing the heat with the comments about how good he looks, and even compared his new character to Dean Winchester. It’s clear that no one can resist him.

Supernatural and Countdown are not the only places that fans are able to see Ackles. The actor will soon be appearing in the fifth and final season of The Boys, reprising his role as Soldier Boy. He will also be playing Soldier Boy in the new prequel series, Vought Rising. Ackles has been guest starring on Tracker as well, appearing as Russell Shaw, the brother of Justin Hartley’s Colter. Of course, it will be hard to see him in a new role, but Ackles has already done a few TV parts since Supernatural, most notably his turn as Soldier Boy on The Boys, which he will be reprising in the show’s fifth and final season that will include a Supernatural reunion.

Since the trailer has made fans more excited for Countdown, people will be happy to know that the wait won’t be too long. The first three episodes of the series will be streaming for those with a Prime Video subscription beginning June 25, with new episodes dropping weekly. There will be a lot to look forward to, and if Supernatural fans are already excited, there is no telling what they will think of the show when it finally premieres. Considering it’s from Derek Haas, whose credits include the One Chicago and FBI franchises, it’s going to be a good one.

Countdown will be premiering in less than a month, and just from the looks of the trailer, the wait will be worth it. Tune in to the first three episodes on June 25 only on Prime Video. For now, if people are so inclined while they are waiting, all 15 seasons of Supernatural are streaming with a Netflix subscription.

Jensen Ackles may have spent the better part of two decades playing Dean Winchester on Supernatural, but that hasn't held him back from new shows in the wake of that series' ending. He flexed some very different acting muscles between Big Sky and The Boys, and now he's set to star in Countdown as his own Prime Video series in the 2025 TV schedule. After sharing the very first look back in early May, the star shared the full trailer on social media, and his former Supernatural co-stars hit the comment section with one clear consensus.

Also starring The Flash's Jessica Camacho and Grey's Anatomy's Eric "McSteamy" Dane, Countdown follows LAPD Detective Mark Meachum (Ackles) as he's recruited to be part of a secret task force, also comprised of undercover agents from other law enforcement branches. The stakes are sky-high, as one might expect from a project created by Chicago Fire co-creator (and longtime showrunner) Derek Haas! As a fan of One Chicago – a.k.a. Derek Haas' former haunt on TV – and a survivor of fifteen seasons of Supernatural, I was already on board for Countdown based on the team behind it. The trailer has me more hyped than before, mostly because we get to see some personality from Jessica Camacho's character. She seems set up as Ackles' co-lead or at least secondary lead, so I'm glad to experience a bit of what she'll be bringing to the action.

Jensen Ackles spread the news of Countdown's latest look on Instagram, including the trailer with the message to "Set your clocks" for the June 25 premiere and a new poster with a less certain "Clock's ticking?" caption. I for one wasn't surprised to see that it didn't take long for some familiar Supernatural names to flood the comment section, but I didn't foresee them almost all having one thing in common. The consensus from Ackles' fellow Supernatural stars is apparently that the Countdown trailer is fire! Kathryn Newton, who played Claire Novak on The CW series, went for a straight compliment, and I just had to include the emojis from Danneel Ackles as well. After all, she did appear in five episodes of Supernatural, so she does count as an alum as well as the leading man's wife!

I think my favorite of the comments is Timothy Omundson's, though, and not just because I frequently get his songs from the short-lived Galavant stuck in my head. He went full caps-locks to show his support for Countdown, in a definite departure from what Cain would have done on Supernatural.

While I'm guessing Countdown won't pack in Supernatural cast members like The Boys has elsewhere on Prime Video under creator Eric Kripke, Ackles has teased that fans of Dean Winchester will find some familiarity in his new character. For now, the wait is on for Countdown's premiere on Wednesday, June 25 on Prime Video. In the meantime, you could always check out Supernatural streaming with a Netflix subscription as well. With 327 episodes over 15 seasons, there's enough to last anybody a while!

It’s always very exciting when beloved actors are announced to star in new projects, and doubly so when comparisons can be made. While Supernatural fans are waiting forThe Boys' big reunion for its central. trio, hype for Jensen Ackles’ new show Countdown has been building. This has been especially exciting for fans of his 15-year stint as the demon hunter Dean Winchester, especially because according to Ackles himself, fans of Supernatural won’t be disappointed of his new character.

In an interview, Entertainment Weekly spoke with co-creator Derek Haas, Ackles and more cast members to get a glimpse into Countdown and learn what fans can expect. While we don’t know much about the plot beyond the initial synopsis, Ackles shared that while it’s not the exact same premise as Supernatural, fans of Dean Winchester won’t be disappointed to find similarities with his newest character. As he put it:

While we’re looking at a show closer to Chicago and 9-1-1, Ackles describes his new character as "rogue L.A. detective, wrong-side-of-the-tracks kind of guy", classic play by his own rules risk-taker. Which even for people like me who has scraped the surface of Supernatural, that’s pretty promising if you just switch L.A. detective with demon hunter. As for why the two characters are so close, Ackles had a simple but understandable response.

A statement that is quite understandable. If it ‘aint broke, don’t fix it. Considering Dean is so beloved, it makes sense to bring some of the most likable aspects of his personality and character to a new project. And from the looks of it, Ackles isn’t rehashing Dean, just using some of him as a jumping off point for his new role. How successful Ackles will be in Countdown is still yet to be seen, but hopes are high.

From sharing some photos on his social media to celebrating filming coming to a close in March, Jensen Ackles' hype train for Countdown has been quite steady. Even if we don't know every single detail about the new drama just yet, nuggets of new info such as BTS on-set pics are helping to keep the fires stoked.

Even in those posts, fans are quick to comment that just seeing Jensen Ackles on set is enough to make this show a hypothetical smash hit, without any footage out. So for the sake of fans, I hope that Countdown lives up to the hype once its available to stream with an Amazon Prime subscription on June 25, 2025.

It’s been over four years since Supernatural aired its series finale, and I've missed seeing Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins together. Thankfully, all three will reunite for the final season of The Boys. Of course, Eric Kripke, who created the long-running CW show, currently serves as showrunner on the over-the-top superheroes series (which is streamable with an Amazon Prime subscription). With that, he opened up about seeing all three of the aforementioned actors working together again, and I love hearing his comments.

When it was announced that Padalecki and Collins would join Ackles (who plays Soldier Boy) for the fifth and final series of the hit Prime Video show, there was plenty of excitement amongst fans. It's currently unclear just who Collins and Padalecki are playing and how they'll fit into the story. At the very least, when Kripke spoke to TV Insider, he made a keen confirmation that should delight fans:

The mere thought of seeing Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins on screen together again is both surreal and exciting. It may be a little jarring, however, given they won't be playing Dean, Sam and Castiel. That being said, I'll take a reunion however I can get it! Plus, there was another alum from the dark fantasy series that joined in this collaboration -- frequent Supernatural director Phil Sgriccia. What Kripke goes on to describe in his interview is a meetup that sounds so nostalgic, and I wish I could've been a fly (or a fly-sized Supe) on the wall:

Can you imagine the stories that were probably told when all five of those men were back together again? Given how much history they have, I'm sure there was a lot to talk about. The fact that they've remained close speaks volumes to their shared kinship, and the excitement swirling around their reunion is a testament to the love from the franchise's devotees. (Cast member Mark Sheppard holds a lot of appreciation for those admirers.) While there are still details about how the trio of stars' on-screen reunion, I'm ready to see how it all plays out.

Aside from the Supernatural aspect of it all, there are still plenty of general variables to consider in regard to how The Boys will wrap up. Some may be sad to see the raunchy and gory show end its run, but even cast member Jack Quaid believes now is the time for the series to conclude.

I certainly can't promise I won't get in my feels when seeing Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins together again. And, considering the unpredictable nature of The Boys, it's hard to say what it'll look like. I'm just hopeful that when the season finally airs, the actors' big moment(s) will be just as fun to watch as it was for them to work on the show with Eric Kripke and co.

In the meantime, anyone who's feeling nostalgic can stream 15 seasons of Supernatural with a Netflix subscription.

Now, on top of all that, he's leading a new series, Countdown, that will be making its way to Amazon Prime and the 2025 TV schedule soon, and after a first look was revealed, fans can’t get enough.

Countdown got some big news earlier this week, as Amazon announced that the series will be premiering on June 25. This project will also star Eric Dane, Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Uli Latukefu, and Elliot Knight, and it was created by Chicago Fire creator Derek Haas, so you know it’s going to be good. Now, Prime Video has shared some first look photos on Instagram, and boy, am I excited:

Ackles has been posting photos from the set of Countdown and even shared a lovely post after filming wrapped, but getting official stills from the series and the premiere date really solidified my excitement for this project. It also doesn’t hurt that Ackles is looking pretty good in the images, as he usually does.

It’s still hard to believe that, come November, it will be five years since Jensen Ackles’ Dean Winchester met a tragic fate in the Supernatural series finale. However, his current characters are alive and well, and knowing that we will soon be introduced to a new one is a great feeling. Of course, fans are over the moon with the fact that the actor will be coming back to television for a new leading role, and many of them will probably be watching just for him, and I can’t say I blame them.

Although I have to say, I'm interested in this show for the plot too. Countdown’s story kicks off when a Department of Homeland Security officer is murdered in broad daylight. Ackles’ LAPD Detective Mark Meachum joins undercover agents from all other branches of law enforcement on a task force to investigate. Fans have seen Ackles in a law enforcement role before, as he portrayed Sheriff Beau Arlen on ABC’s Big Sky. However, this feels different, and I can't wait to see this striking mystery play out.

Fans won’t have to wait too long to see Jensen Ackles in action as Detective Mark Meachum. Countdown premieres its first three episodes on June 25 for those with an Amazon Prime subscription. New episodes will then premiere weekly. Between the intriguing storyline and the A-list cast that Ackles is part of, Countdown will be a series fans won’t want to miss out on.

Jensen Ackles is shedding his Supernatural roots this summer in the 2025 TV schedule with the premiere of Countdown, his new Prime Video TV show. The actor, who previously worked on The Winchesters as a Supernatural spinoff and re-teamed with Supernatural creator Erik Kripke on The Boys, joined forces with Derek Haas of Chicago Fire fame to play an LAPD detective who is recruited into a secret task force.

The latest development? Prime Video has revealed a premiere date, and while that's certainly exciting, I'm thinking back to the action-packed On Call and the cast's high hopes for renewal news... going back several months.

When You Can Watch Countdown

Countdown will officially premiere for streamers with a Prime Video subscription on Wednesday, June 25. The first three episodes will drop on that first day, with the subsequent installments releasing weekly up until the finale on September 1.

Given that Jensen Ackles announced that he'd wrapped on Countdown back in March, the wait to see the series isn't too bad. He's joined in the cast by Grey's Anatomy's Eric Dane, The Flash's Jessica Camacho, and Death and Other Details' Violett Beane, among others.

The story of Countdown kicks off when a Department of Homeland Security officer is murdered in broad daylight, which results in LAPD Detective Mark Meachum (Ackles) joining undercover agents from all other branches of law enforcement on a task force to investigate.

The plot will only thicken from there, and it's a safe bet that there will be plenty of action courtesy of showrunner and executive producer Derek Haas. He filled those same roles on NBC's extremely successful Chicago Fire for years, and Fire delivers some of the strongest stunts on network televisison.

What About On Call?

In light of the Countdown news, I couldn't help but flash back to On Call, the half-hour police drama starring Pretty Little Liars' Troian Bellisario, The Good Doctor's Brandon Larracuente, Full House icon Lori Loughlin, and ER legend Eriq LaSalle as police officers in Long Beach, California. It wasn't shot quite like other crime dramas, as the first season also incorporated bodycam and dash-cam footage. The show hails from Wolf Entertainment, a.k.a. the production company behind One Chicago, the Law & Order world, and CBS' FBI world.

Fan reactions were mixed when On Call premiered back in January, despite a fan-favorite Chicago Fire alum making cameo early on. As somebody who regularly tunes in to network. TV's nine-show Dick Wolf world, I enjoyed what the creators' described as their "popcorn entertainment" approach to the story.

I was fortunate enough to speak with the On Call team back in December ahead of the premiere on Prime Video, and had to ask Lori Loughlin and Eriq La Salle if they'd be interested in coming back for a potential Season 2. Loughlin immediately responded with "Oh lord, we hope!" Eriq La Salle, who was also an executive producer and director for On Call, chimed in:

Considering that Eriq La Salle has acting, directing, and producing credits on a plethora of hour-long crime dramas (including Chicago P.D., Law & Order, Law & Order: Organized Crime, FBI, and FBI's upcoming CIA spinoff), who better to attest to On Call feeling fresh with its half-hour run time? Loughlin went on to share her hopes for the series' future, including a compliment for what her costar achieved while directing:

I spoke with these stars back in December, before the premiere in January when Prime Video subscribers en masse were able to check out the eight episodes for themselves. In all those months since the early 2025 premiere, Amazon has not announced a renewal or cancellation for On Call. I can't say if cast members have given up by this point, but I for one would just like to know.

At this point, all fans can do is wait for news and/or rewatch the first season if they want a fix of the On Call action. Jensen Ackles' Countdown does seem like a fun series that could be a hit with fans of any Wolf Entertainment viewer, and I'll be checking it out when it premieres in June.

Fans who love both R-rated superhero chaos and long-lasting genre series are set for a match made in heaven whenever Jensen Ackles reunites with Supernatural alums Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins on The Boys’ fifth and final season. But before that magnificence can be obsessed over by fans with Amazon Prime subscriptions, Ackles has another upcoming 2025 TV series on the way in the form of a new thriller titled Countdown, even if some people believe it has a far more NSFW title.

Ackles gave his many millions of followers a closer look at his latest series by sharing behind-the-scenes photos from the production in November 2024, and we finally got another peek when he shared a batch of new photos that marked the production concluding. Many shared excitement for the actor leading another series after returning for Tracker Season 2 in a smaller capacity, but others couldn’t ignore the stylized logo seemingly features the C-word.

The very first picture leading off Jensen Ackles’ Instagram post focusing on Countdown features a set chair whose backing features a logo where the first “O” in the title is a timer icon with that’s nearly been depleted. Both the lighting and focus make it seem as if the “O” isn’t there, which sparked a slew of amused and confused comments amidst all the thirsty comments and adoration. I don't in good faith believe that Jensen Ackles or anyone else involved with the creation of this show purposefully designed the Countdown title's imagery to resemble a part of the female anatomy that can't be said on network television. But it is a little weird that everyone on the show presumably worked with those chairs thoughout the production, without anyone raising a flare and suggesting that changes be made.

Of course, maybe the chair and logo look perfectly normal and would never be mistaken for anything but the word Countdown when seen in abundant light and in perfect focus. Perhaps it was only the specific elements that came together for Jensen Ackles picture that made it obvious how unfortunate that "O" design is.

I'm not even sure if the comment seen below is perfectly authentic, or if it's a snarky take on how the title looks, but I'll take it.

Countdown was created by former One Chicago showrunner Derek Haas specifically for Jensen Ackles, who stars as an LAPD officer named Mark Meachum. In the aftermath of a suspicious murder that takes place out in public daylight, Meachum is recruited into a task force set to investigate the killing, with undercover officers from a variety of branches brought into the operation.

But what initially seems like a single incident soon becomes something far larger and more dangerous than expected, and the task force must work together to stop a sinister scheme that would put millions of innocent lives in danger. And Ackles will be doing it all without his character enjoying any superpowers, which isn't the case on his other Prime Video series, The Boys, a franchise he'll be sticking with for the upcoming spinoff Vought Rising.

Without a premiere date locked in just yet, everybody waiting to watch Countdown will have to wait until future announcements from Ackles or the streaming service itself to know when we'll be able to watch this new show.

For so many years, Jensen Ackles fans were spoiled by Supernatural’s seemingly endless run on The CW, and while it’s been great seeing him pop up in a wider variety of projects in recent years, I think we can agree it’s just not enough. Thankfully, he’ll be returning to The Boys and its upcoming Vought Uprising spinoff as the villainous supe Soldier Boy, and will be reuniting with Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins in Season 5. And he apparently filmed a wholly different series in the meantime.

As we wait for Supernatural’s former co-stars to share the screen together again, Ackles dropped the celebratory news that his upcoming streaming thriller Countdown — the latest from former Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas — has now concluded filming. The actor shared the exciting announcement on Instagram, along with a handful of behind-the-scenes pics that unfortunately don’t give fans much to speculate about. Here’s how he optimistically worded things:

Here we are, still mostly in the dark about what to expect from Countdown, and Ackles is already getting his followers hyped up about a potential second season? Let's please not try to start cashing that particular check until Soldier Boy is back in uniform and making Billy Butcher's life that much more complicated.

In the post, the occasional Tracker guest star gave props to Haas as well as the Prime Video series’ producers Marc Bienstock (a frequent M. Night Shyamalan collaborator) and director Jonathan Brown (a vet of One Chicago and other network dramas). With that creative team running things, Countdown tells the story of Ackles’ Mark Meachum, an LAPD officer who joins a secret task force of undercover agents investigating a mysterious murder.

The team, which is culled from all corners of law enforcement, makes progress with their investigation, but once truths start getting uncovered, the various members personal plights come into play, and they have to get past those individual barriers in order to work together and save both their city and the millions of people that live there. No biggie. (Worth noting: the new series also stars The Last Ship vet Eric Dane and All Rise alum Jessica Camacho.)

In the years since he hung up his demon-chasing boots as Dean Winchester, Jensen Ackles has leaned hard on his innate superheroism, as complemented by lots of Batman fan art and live-action rumors. He’s voiced Bruce Wayne and Batman across six different DC Entertainment animated features, from Long Halloween to Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths. And then of course there's his work as Soldier Boy on The Boys and Gen V for his former boss Eric Kripke.

While we may not see The Boys' final season popping up on the 2025 TV schedule, given how effects-heavy that production is, here's hoping we'll soon be able to catch Jensen Ackles keeping people safe in Los Angeles when Countdown hits Prime Video at some point in the future.

We’re just a few months away from the big screen debut of the new DC Universe with James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie. There’s obviously a lot of excitement surrounding the film and David Corenswet’s debut as the Man of Steel, but many fans are also already looking toward the future. At some point, we’re going to get a new DCU Batman and Wonder Woman, and an excellent piece of fan art has some solid suggestions in the form of Alexandra Daddario and Jensen Ackles.

A graphic designer on Instagram has taken the first official look at Corensewet’s Superman and combined it with his own members of the classic DC trinity, including Alexandra Daddario as Wonder Woman and Jensen Ackles as Batman. As ideas go, it’s certainly not the worst one. Check it out.

Jensen Ackles already has a strong connection to the Batman character, as he’s voiced Batman/Bruce Wayne in multiple DC animated projects over the years. He also has a bit of live-action superhero experience from his time on The Boys. As a result quite a few fans are in favor of the idea of him becoming the DCU’s Batman.

Alexandra Daddario has her own connection to DC animation, though she’s previously voiced Lois Lane, not Wonder Woman. Still, there’s no argument that she doesn’t look the part in the art here. At this point, there are no official plans, that we’re aware of for Wonder Woman to join the DCU. While it’s all but certain that will happen eventually, there’s no way to even guess who could play the role.

Batman is a bit of a different story. A Batman movie for the DCU, not to be confused with Matt Reeves Batman movies starring Robert Pattinson, has been announced. The Brave and the Bold will be directed by Andy Muschietti. It will follow Batman and also include the first screen adaptation of Robin in years, with the sidekick being Damian Wayne, Batman's son in the comics.

It's an exciting project, however, no release date for the film has ever been given and according to the director himself, the process has been slow, so there’s no telling when the film will actually get underway or even if somebody like Jensen Ackles is even close to the sort of actor the movie will want for the version of Batman the story will need.

It’s impossible to know when a moment like this might actually happen in the DCU, or who, other than David Corenswet, will be part of it when it does. However, it seems all but certain we will get this moment on screen eventually, assuming that James Gunn’s vision of the DCU is successful enough to make it that far.

Supernatural may have ended more than four years ago, but the series creator has a big treat in store for fans who have not yet forgotten the adventures of the Winchesters and their extended family. It's not a revival of the original show or even the return of The Winchesters; prepare instead to see the big three from the Supernatural days on The Boys. Jensen Ackles already had the role of Soldier Boy that he can reprise for The Boys Season 5; now he'll be joined by fellow Supernatural alums Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins to possibly address a lingering finale issue.

How The Three Stars Are Coming To The Same Show

It's not a huge surprise that Padalecki at least is going to show up after previous comments by Eric Kripke, who created Supernatural for The WB (which would become The CW) years before developing The Boys for Prime Video. Misha Collins is more of a surprise, and his inclusion is what reminded me of my lingering issue with how Supernatural ended. But before we get into that, take a look at the announcement video and note the iconic Supernatural quote:

"We got work to do" is a line from the end of both Supernatural's 2005 pilot episode as well as the Season 15 premiere in 2019, and any fan worth their rock salt surely caught it. While it may be some time before news breaks of who Misha Collins and Jared Padalecki will play, and even though it's possible that the three actors won't even share scenes, there's an incredibly basic way that this could make up for what I still see as a shortcoming of Supernatural's last episode.

The Supernatural finale was divisive for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the very unceremonious death of Dean Winchester, played by Ackles. I've gone back and forth over the years on how I feel about how he was killed off, and the only two things that I haven't really changed my mind about at all are 1) Jared Padalecki's transformation into old man Sam for the flash-forwards was a little bit goofy and 2) Misha Collins should have been there as Castiel.

Cuts had to be made due to COVID production complications, so the finale would have likely included more Supernatural alums before the end if it was possible to do safely, but it still stings that Cas' last appearance on Supernatural was sacrificing himself to misery after finally doing the one thing that would make him truly happy.

Why The Boys Is Already A Funny Option For A Reunion

Will Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins be playing the Winchester brothers and the angel on The Boys? Of course not. For one thing, Ackles is already Soldier Boy, and plenty of Supernatural vets have already appeared on the Prime Video show without hugely meta nods to old CW series. But as a TV enthusiast and an entertainment journalist, I've witnessed the rise and fall of many fandoms, and I don't think there's any fandom quite as dedicated as Supernatural viewers when it comes to taking canon, seeing it, and then choosing what to do with it. (It's also a valuable approach to The X-Files, in my experience.)

Certainly no show I've seen approaches meta episodes the way Supernatural did, to the point that the 200th episode – called "Fan Fiction" – was literally about an in-universe musical based on an in-universe book series all about the Winchesters, complete with jokes about ship names, subtext, the Samulet, and the fact that Sam and Dean kind of forgot about their half-brother Adam down in Hell for a long time.

All of which is to say that I have full faith that Supernatural fans can watch The Boys with Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins all presumably playing different characters, and make it both funny and somehow tied to Sam, Dean, and Cas. Why not an alternate universe, a la "The French Mistake" episode that featured Sam and Dean inserted into the lives of Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles through angelic shenanigans? Not only is The Boys a hilarious option as the show to bring the three back together after we didn't get one last Supernatural of them as a trio, but I can't wait to see how Supernatural fans react to it.

The first four seasons of The Boys, including every episode with Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, are streaming with a Prime Video subscription, with Supernatural streaming via a Netflix subscription. Since Season 5 likely won't debut on Amazon until 2026, those are solid enough options to pass the time.

Supernatural fans, if you’re not into The Boys, now might be a good time to catch up with your Amazon Prime subscription. Following Jensen Ackles being established as Captain America parody character Soldier Boy when he joined The Boys Season 3 cast, he’ll be bringing along his Supernatural boys with him for the fifth and final season, which is currently in production. Ackles made the announcement with his former Supernatural co-stars, and it’s too good.

The Boys Instagram account caught Supernatural fans off guard when a video was posted of Jensen Ackles telling Jared Padelecki they have “work to do”. Check it out:

Jared Padelecki sweetly answers Ackles’ call in the video by saying he’s gotta “tell Misha,” as in Misha Collins, a.k.a. Castiel. Collins ends the post in the best way possible by answering and asking “What are we doing?” before The Boys logo pops up. It’s the best tease you could give to confirm that the entire trio from Supernatural will all reunite in the final season of The Boys. And the Instagram reactions were so on point. Check it:

If you’ve been following The Boys closely, you might not be too surprised. The show was developed by Eric Kripke, who also created Supernatural. Considering he worked with Ackles and Padalecki in particular for many years on the CW series, they must be basically family. And after Ackles was cast as Soldier Boy, he talked about getting Padalecki on board.

Fans of Supernatural are literally getting the best of both worlds now that both Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins will be coming as a package deal for the last season of The Boys. Now, we don’t know who they are playing, but per Entertainment Weekly, their roles will be in a guest star capacity. Considering the Supernatural creator is behind the reunion, we expect some cheeky, clever nod to their beloved first TV show together.

Following the events of Season 4, where Soldier Boy came back, Supernatural fans must of course be hoping that the three actors have entangled plotlines. As announced at San Diego Comic-Con last year, Soldier Boy is also getting his own spinoff, so is it possible the boys could be coming by to set up another show of their own? Can you imagine? The Supernatural fandom would break in the best way possible.

We don’t know when The Boys is coming back for its last season, but our best guess is in 2026. After this news, it can’t come close enough.

Since Supernatural ended four years ago, Jensen Ackles has been busy. He produced prequel series The Winchesters and served as the narrator, joined The Boys as Soldier Boy -- who he'll reprise on the upcoming prequel Vought Rising -- and he's guest-starred on Justin Hartley's Tracker amid the 2024 TV schedule. Now, he’s starring on another Amazon Prime series, Countdown, from Chicago Fire creator Derek Haas. It feels like I’ve been waiting too long for an update, so Ackles' recently released BTS pics are right on time.

It was announced in June that Ackles and Haas were teaming up for the new series. The show follows Ackles’ LAPD officer character, Mark Meachum, as he's recruited to join a secret task force of undercover agents. Few updates have dropped since then, but we're now in luck, thanks to the leading man. He shared some fun BTS pictures on his Instagram, assuring fans, “We are well on our way here and having a blast.” Check out the post for yourself:

From the looks of the pictures, it seems like the cast is having a good time filming. The Smallville alum shared photos of himself and his fellow co-stars, Violett Beane, Uli Latukefu and Elliot Knight, and I am definitely ready to see them all in action. It also looks like Ackles and Knight have been jamming out in between takes, and I so desperately need their characters to have their musical talents. It will also be fun to see Ackles step into another cop role after playing a sheriff on Big Sky.

As of now, a premiere date for Countdown has not been announced, but one would hope that as filming progresses as intended, it may not be long before a date is revealed. It's my hope that the wait for the show will be worth it.

It just seems like Jensen Ackles can’t stop landing roles and new shows. Even though it’s still sad to know he’s no longer playing Dean Winchester, it’s still exciting to see all of the recent work he's done, and I look forward to seeing what he will do. Given that he has a first-look deal with Amazon via his Chaos Machine production banner (which he runs with wife Danneel Ackles), there is likely much more on the way aside from Countdown and Vought Rising.

One would hope that it won't be too long before further updates on the upcoming show arrive. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it shows up early on the 2025 TV schedule. In the meantime, let's hope that Jensen Ackles and co. drop some additional photos from the set to tide us over.

Countdown's release may not be in sight just yet, but know that there are plenty of titles to stream with a Prime Video subscription while you wait for it.

As Tracker Season 2 continues on the 2024 TV schedule, the CBS hit has been hinting at a possible romance with Fiona Rene’s Reenie. While the first season seemingly teased that something was going on between her and Justin Hartley’s Colter, it’s possible that fans could be seeing her with someone else but still in the Shaw family. Jensen Ackles’ Russell has not been shy about his interest in Reenie, and Rene shared an interesting take on the dynamic.

Ackles made his debut as estranged brother Russell in the first season, with the series digging deeper into the Shaw family history and what really happened with their father’s death. Russell showed up again this season in Episode 2 to help out his brother, and in a later episode, Reenie told Colter, “It’s not like that between us” in regards to her and Russell. Rene updated People on the two characters' status, and you can’t blame Reenie for having high standards:

It would be entertaining to see Reenie and Russell together, especially after it’s been teased that Reenie and Colter have a thing for one another. It does sound like Reenie won’t be giving in that easily, though, even if it will take a while to find someone that fits her standards.

That being said, having Russell and Reenie together would make for another good excuse to bring Ackles back from time to time, but he is pretty busy with other projects, including his upcoming Prime series Countdown. You never know what could happen, though.

Meanwhile, Reenie may be known for being pretty serious and helping Colter and her other clients, but that doesn’t mean she can’t still have fun. Fiona Rene revealed that while Reenie spends most of her time working, there has to be at least some time when she can just have fun, and I need more of it on the show. As she put it:

Since we’re still pretty early on in Season 2, there is much more to dig into with Reenie and all of the other characters. Plus, Ackles will be in multiple episodes this season even despite his busy schedule, so who knows what will go on when Russell comes back into the picture. It should be interesting to see, though.

Those with a Paramount+ subscription can watch all episodes of Tracker and see for themselves if Reenie and Russell should get together or if she should settle with someone else, such as the other Shaw brother. New episodes air on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS, and there is no telling just what will happen, whether with Reenie, Colter, Russell, or another case of the week, and fans won’t want to miss a single second of it.
