His occupation results from years dreaming of a filmmaking career, settling on a "professional film fan" career, studying journalism at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO (where he served as Culture Editor for its student-run print and online publications), and a brief stint of reviewing movies for fun. He would later continue that side-hustle of film criticism on TikTok (@wiesewisdom), where he posts videos on a semi-weekly basis.

What He's Into: Readers may notice a recurring theme of horror and superhero-related content (especially in regards to Batman) in much of Jason's work, but his favorite film of all time is more in line with traditional action/adventure stories: Raiders of the Lost Ark. His favorite TV series is the gritty, grounded crime thriller Breaking Bad and if you catching him reading anything, it is probably a comic book (and, more often than not, one featuring Batman). More important to him than entertainment, however, are his wife and two dogs.

What He's Excited About Right Now: Jason typically tries to keep his excitement and expectations for any upcoming movies as low as possible, but he is certainly looking forward to the second halves of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Beyond the Spider-Verse) and Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, as well as Tim Burton's long, LONG-awaited follow-up to a very film in his household, Beetlejuice. However, even more than any of those sequels, he is especially looking forward to returning to Matt Reeves' vision of Gotham City in the upcoming follow-up to The Batman.
</dc:description>

Speaking of sports, he will next appear on the basketball drama Baselines with Jarrett Ellis, who starred in the Tupac biopic All Eyez on Me as Snoop Dogg.

Khailah Johnson (Ladonna)

One of the few characters in the 4400, other than Brittany Adebumola’s Shanice, who has some familiarity with the 21st Century (having gone missing in 2015) is Ladonna - played by Khailah Johnson, who is making her screen acting debut on The CW series.

The New Jersey native actually just graduated in 2021 from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama, where she notably played Little Red in the school’s production of Into the Woods, and earned the Helen Wayne Rauh award for excellence in musical theatre. Around that same time, the actor was cast in a Season 2 episode of The L Word: Generation Q - a revival of the hit Showtime series.

Judging by shots of police officers wearing masks and conversations between people separated by clear plastic barriers in the promotional material, its seems like the new 4400 takes place not in an alternate 2021, but in our very own reality (if this reality also saw the shocking arrival of reluctant, time-traveling missing persons). I suppose that also means we should also expect some interesting social commentary in each episode when the new series - developed by Riverdale producer Ariana Jackson and Walker executive producer Anna Fricke - premieres on The CW, Monday, October 25, 2021.

His humble origin story with CinemaBlend began all the way back in the pre-streaming era, circa 2009, as a freelancing DVD reviewer and TV recapper. After rising up through the ranks covering Movies, Nick leapfrogged over to the small screen to cover more and more television news and interviews, eventually taking over the section for the current era. Born in Louisiana and currently living in Texas — Who Dat Nation over America’s Team all day, all night — Nick spent several years in the hospitality industry, and also worked as a 911 operator. And if you ever happened to hear his music or read his comics/short stories, you have his sympathy. His love for his wife and daughters is almost equaled by his love of gasp-for-breath laughter and gasp-for-breath horror. A lifetime spent in the vicinity of a television screen led to his current dream job, as well as his knowledge of too many TV themes and ad jingles.

What He's Into: Nick is one of those people who won’t necessarily insert a Monty Python reference into every conversation, but is still mentally equipped to do so. Beyond such appreciation for surreal UK comedy, Nick also indulges in as much horror splendor as possible, from Stephen King novels to James Tynion IV comics to Freddy Krueger one-liners to all things Mike Flanagan. Throw in a dash of NFL, some 311 and Weird Al, fried crawfish poboys, bourbon, ‘90s-era pro wrestling, crossword puzzles and mystery-driven video games, and baby, you got a stew going. (Nick will insert an Arrested Development reference into every conversation, if possible.)

What He's Excited About: Anything Jeff Lemire, Tom King and W. Maxwell Prince think of, ever. More of Kelly Reilly’s deliriously fierce performances on Yellowstone. HBO’s The Last of Us. Clone High’s return. Colin Farrell’s Penguin being in every movie/TV show/breakfast cereal.
</dc:description>

As of a year ago, in 2019, Rickards was also signed on to produce and star in Miles Forster's horror RAGs, centered on a movie serial killer who defends a group of teenagers from another dangerous killer.

David Ramsey (John Diggle/Spartan)

The kind of sidekick/bodyguard that every good vigilante deserves, David Ramsey's John Diggle was an integral part of what made Arrow's core squad so watchable. That said, the actor did appear on The Flash after Arrow's end, so he might just stick around The CW from time to time. While he doesn't have any bigger projects publicly known to be in the works, Ramsey is currently recording Cameo videos for fans where part of the proceeds go to the Red Cross. Which is a shame, since Willa Holland doesn't have anything big on the radar as far as TV or movie roles. Thankfully, the character survived through the events at the end of Arrow's final season, and Dinah is one of the various characters at the heart of the potential Canaries-based spinoff. There's a decent enough chance we'll see her again in Legends or The Flash, but it can't be known for sure just yet.

The return of Arrow for Season 8 marks the beginning of the end for the show that started the now five-show Arrow-verse on The CW, but Mia and Connor's flash-forward journeys may be only just beginning. Joseph David-Jones, who has played Connor Hawke -- albeit in two very different forms -- since he debuted on Legends of Tomorrow back in 2016, weighed in on their relationship in Season 8, and what he had to say may surprise fans.

Is love in the air for Connor Hawke, adoptive son of John Diggle and Lyla Michaels, and Mia Smoak, daughter of Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak, as seemed hinted by their mysterious history together in Season 7? Or will they have other things on their minds as two members of the new Team Arrow? When I asked Joseph David-Jones about Connor and Mia's dynamic in Season 8, he said this:

It's going to be a love-hate kind of thing. I feel like so much of this next season has been trying to figure out how to become heroes and who should take the lead and who should help guide this team into where they need to be. And that causes a good amount of contention between the two of them. JJ gets in between the two of them, but the whole time you feel the love there. And their relationship is a complicated one. So I can't wait for fans to see what comes of that.

Hey, that's some love, right? Star City in 2040 and beyond isn't an easy place to live even despite Team Arrow 2.0's victories at the end of Season 7, which were satisfying enough to Felicity that she felt able to leave her daughter behind to apparently join a very much not-dead Oliver somewhere far away. The kids of the members of Original Team Arrow have more on their minds than romance, even if that is something they'd want to pursue if conditions were purpose. Connor does have an evil brother in the mix thanks to JJ, after all!

Original Team Arrow had a clear leader, as it was Oliver's mission to begin with, and the rest joined his cause. Although Diggle and Felicity never blindly followed him, he was the Green Arrow, and they didn't even get code names for a few years. In the flash-forward Team Arrow, the four members -- Mia, Connor, William, and Zoe -- are more or less on equal ground, which means that somebody stepping up as leader could result in some friction. And then, of course, there's the issue of Connor's seemingly villainous adoptive brother, John Diggle Jr.

JJ was revealed to be part of the Deathstroke Gang, whose choice of name makes it pretty clear that they're not exactly heroes fighting the good fight for Star City. Played by Charlie Barnett of Chicago Fire fame, JJ and Connor have a complicated history of their own, and Joseph David-Jones revealed that he and Barnett put a lot of thought and work into crafting that dynamic.

Considering the Arrow spinoff that's in the works to focus on Mia Smoak and other key female characters from the parent series, the odds are pretty good that the Connor/Mia dynamic itself will continue beyond the end of Arrow. It should be interesting to see what goes down in the backdoor pilot that will air as one of the final ten episodes of Arrow.

Will this spinoff go the way of Supernatural's many spinoff attempts and never get off the ground, or does the Arrow-verse -- which is technically comprised almost entirely of spinoffs -- have what it takes to turn a flash-forward series into a hit? It would be a shame for the Arrow-verse to continue without an archer in the mix, even if it can't be Oliver Queen following Arrow's post-"Crisis on Infinite Earths" series finale.

See what's in store for Connor, Mia, and the rest with new episodes of Arrow airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW, following new episodes of The Flash in the fall TV lineup.

While Oliver and Co. have to deal with the coming Crisis in the present thanks to Oliver's deal with The Monitor, the action continues in the flash-forward timeline introduced in Season 7, with Star City 2040. Only time will tell if more characters from the present turn up in the future, but Season 8 regular Joseph David-Jones (Connor Hawke) explained to CinemaBlend that two present characters will impact the flash-forwards: John Diggle and Bronze Tiger.

Although Joseph David-Jones technically made his Arrow-verse debut on Legends of Tomorrow back in 2016, that timeline was thankfully erased, and he joined Arrow in earnest to play Connor Hawke in the Season 7 flash-forwards. This time, "Connor Hawke" was not an alias used by John Diggle Jr., or JJ, but rather the given name of the son of Bronze Tiger who would later be adopted by John Diggle and Lyla Michaels.

The future timeline in the seventh season revealed that Connor rose above his status as the biological son of an Arrow baddie to become a hero, whereas JJ seemingly became a villain despite his status as the son of two Arrow heroes. Joseph David-Jones spoke with CinemaBlend about Arrow Season 8, and when I asked what it has been like to play with the expectations of the son of a bad guy vs. the son of heroes with Connor and JJ, David-Jones said this:

In a different timeline, in a different world, I was JJ, I was the son of John Diggle. So it's kind of funny reevaluating who I am and where I fit in with this new timeline, universe. But there's so much to play with with that, and there's a bit of turmoil and knowing what is inside of me and where I came from to be the person that Connor is now. Because we find out that he wasn't always the person that he is now. You get to see that a lot in this season that's coming up. You get to see what went into Connor becoming sort of this Diggle-esque character in Arrow now. And also you get to see what led JJ to being where he is, and playing with that and working with Charlie [Barnett] has been amazing to sort of find that defining moment within that to bring these characters to life.

Even if John Diggle and Bronze Tiger never show up in the flash-forwards -- which hasn't been 100% confirmed one way or the other -- their impacts will be felt in the form of Connor and JJ. Connor in particular comes from two words, as he wasn't exactly an infant who wouldn't remember his biological dad before Diggle and Lyla adopted him. Bronze Tiger also wasn't exactly a supervillain a la Deathstroke or Ra's al Ghul; still, the values Connor was raised with could have taken him in a wildly different direction.

Instead of becoming Bronze Tiger 2.0, even in the awful circumstances of Star City 2040, Connor became a hero fighting the good fight. The same can't be said for his adoptive brother, JJ, who is the biological child of Diggle and Lyla. According to Joseph David-Jones, Arrow Season 8 will share the journeys of both brothers to reveal how they wound up where they were when the flash-forwards left off in Season 7.

Charlie Barnett of Chicago Fire fame was cast in the series regular role of JJ, who was revealed in Season 7 to be the leader of the Deathstroke Gang in the 2040 future. Season 7 didn't drop a whole lot of details about the Deathstroke Gang, but the choice of name certainly suggests that their leader is not somebody to cross lightly.

Joseph David-Jones went on to share how Charlie Barnett has fit into the cast and helped build the key relationship between the adoptive brothers:

It's been great. A lot of the new people, we're still trying to find out what we can bring to the show, especially now that it's coming to an end. Finding times to meet and work on relationships with some of the veteran cast is a bit difficult. They all have so much that they're working on, but whenever new people come in as well there's a chance to really take time on our days off and work through these histories with these people and then personalize a lot of things. And Charlie works like that. He works very well. So we met up a couple times to sort of figure out our relationship because this bond that I have with him [as Connor] is the strongest for me in the show. I really did want to find what that was and how to personalize and how to really feel these things that I'm saying. He was amazing. He's amazing in it. You're gonna love him, you're gonna hate him. He walks that line pretty well.

While fans still have to wait to see how the sons of John Diggle -- adoptive and biological -- interact as adults, Joseph David-Jones' comments reveal that he and Charlie Barnett put a lot of effort into building a believable and personal bond. The relationship between Connor and JJ is bound to be complicated, to put it lightly.

The future timeline is a bit of a mess, to say the least, and they clearly chose very divergent paths at some point. Can their relationship be repaired? We'll have a better idea once we get a look at them sharing the screen, but it's pretty promising to know that fans will love and hate JJ!

Given that Diggle played a major role in shaping Connor on the show, I asked Joseph David-Jones if he'd met up with David Ramsey, who has played John Diggle ever since Arrow's pilot way back in 2012, about shaping Connor as a character:

Oh yeah! We had talks and hung out a handful of times, but he gave less advice on my character and everything and more advice on the show and working as an actor in general. He's been doing this for a while, and he's gotten an understanding of the industry and he's creating his own projects and everything like that. So he's given me a lot of life advice. As well as show advice and character advice and all that stuff, but the relationship that I have with him is that of somewhat of a mentor. He's a good dude. He's a funnier version of who he plays on the show. That's the best way I can describe him. He's genuine but funny.

Considering John Diggle has been one of the few consistently good characters of Arrow -- even more than the Green Arrow himself, who has fallen off the straight and narrow path more than once over the years -- I'd say that being called "a funnier version" of Diggle is a huge compliment!

Now we'll just have to wait and see if David Ramsey and Joseph David-Jones appear on screen together. Anything seems possible with "Crisis On Infinite Earths" coming up, and the flash-forwards haven't given a solid reason why Diggle can't pop up. And hey, there's always the spinoff, if Arrow runs out of time in Season 8!

Find out when new episodes of Arrow air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW, following new episodes of The Flash in the fall TV lineup.
