It’s hard to believe it was five years ago today that I got to experience opening day for Universal Islands of Adventure’s brand new coaster: The Jurassic World VelociCoaster. The ride was an achievement both in theming and in technical precision, and it’s still a ride I can’t help but scream on (out of both enthusiasm and terror) every time I’m going up and over that Top Hat.

My enthusiasm hasn’t waned, but it is so very hard to believe five years have passed. The time has indeed, gone, and Universal Orlando paid its own tribute to one of the parks’ most signature rides in a post that had me a little in my feels this week. This is true even though the post itself is very funny.

It's hard to believe so much time has passed, but yes, the ride opened on June 10, 2021. By November 14th that same year, it had already seen its one millionth rider go through the queue. Its popularity extended to awards. Last year, it was named best coaster for the fourth year in a row. While Universal’s Epic Universe has now put up some great attractions competing in that category, including Stardust Racers, this is still a favorite for many, myself included.

So, let’s talk about this churro stand.

The VelociCoaster Churro Stand Joke May Be The Greatest Inside Joke A Theme Park Has Ever Concocted

We’ve spoken about the funny-but-true story behind the VelociCoaster coming together before. Honestly, I’d recommend you go through that longer-form rundown, but the gist is this:

Universal Orlando sometimes keeps projects close to the vest. For example, that’s why we don’t currently know what’s going into the soon-to-be defunct Mythos restaurant at Lost Continent, also in Islands of Adventure. In the case of the Jurassic World-themed coaster, the powers that be did not want to share the news right away. So, construction walls went up and rumors began.

The joke? It was going to be a giant churro stand. Universal’s social media is one of my favorite follows on the Internet. At the time, those involved rolled with the joke for months and months, even after it became clear the coaster tracks were going up in the Jurassic Park section of the park. It was a really funny joke at the time, and allowed for an aura of mystery to surround the ride before its announcement. The fact the parks are still joking about it five years later is truly a testament to a successful marketing campaign.

It helps the Jurassic World VelociCoaster is a high-octane ride and beloved by all the thrill seekers who give it a whirl. So happy birthday to my favorite barrel roll, and my favorite top hat, and my favorite raptors hanging out near the tracks.

Usually when a theme park has something new on the horizon, there’s a great deal of press and promotion that goes along with it. However, Universal Destinations and Experiences has been known to sometimes go in a very different direction. Apparently, when it comes to Jurassic Park, the feeling is that little to no promotion is needed.

The Jurassic World Velocicoaster was mostly completed at Universal Islands of Adventure before Universal Orlando resort ever confirmed that’s what it actually was, and now a new Jurassic World experience has begun at Universal Studios Hollywood, complete with (via Inside Universal) Dr. Ian Malcolm explaining chaos theory to guests. I’m sorry to say, however, that he is not, at least currently, “shirless Jeff Goldblum.”

Jurassic World: A Journey Through The Eras is currently a “special event” at Univesal Studios Hollywood that opened this week completely without any official announcement. It's essentially an outdoor walkthrough attraction. It includes some animated dinosaur characters, as well as actors performing the likes of Ian Malcolm, Dr. John Hammond and Nedry. Guests can interact with all of them in character.

While details have not yet been confirmed, it appears that Journey Through The Eras is meant to be an offering at this year’s Fan Fest Nights, an after-hours ticketed event starting next month. If that’s the case, then this is essentially a soft opening/technical rehearsal, likely meant to make sure that everything is in working order.

The title of the event Journey Through the Eras would seem to indicate that the full experience will include not just Jurassic Park characters but Jurassic World characters as well. Thus far, only the former have appeared at Universal Studios Hollywood. Perhaps there is a lot more being kept behind the curtain for Fan Fest Nights.

If this is an official Fan Fest Night offering, then it’s also likely that not everything that will be part of the experience during the event is on display now. I’m not saying that shirtless Ian Malcolm is definitely going to happen at Fan Fest Nights, but it is an “after-hours” event, right?

Honestly, if they stage an interaction that has Dr. Malcolm inclined and with his shirt open, I might actually die laughing. That would be hilarious. That said, I won’t be convinced it’s not happening until Fan Fest Nights get started.

Last year’s inaugural Fan Fest Nights were incredible, and this year is looking to be just as great. We’re getting Scooby-Doo X Universal Monsters, an expanded One Piece experience, Sailor Moon, and the return of last year’s Dungeons & Dragons: Secrets of Waterdeep. If Jurassic World is being added to that, it's only going to make this year's Fan Fest Nights that much better.

After spending like 65 million years on Peacock, the Jurassic World movies are now streaming for anyone with a Netflix subscription. To the surprise of no one, all four are in the top half of the Netflix Top 10 (for now, anyway), including one that I have considered one of the worst movies and least enjoyable theatrical experiences for the past 1,360 days.

Seriously, it has been nearly four years since Jurassic World Dominion arrived on the big screen and left me quoting Dr. Ian Malcolm’s famous line. No, not the “Life has a way” one or that hilarious laugh, but instead the one when he sees the big pile of dino dung. You would think my disdain for this absolutely rotten movie, which CinemaBlend gave a 1.5/5 review back in June 2022, would waver over the years, but you’d be wrong. So, so wrong.

It’s Still Baffling How You Could Make A Movie This Bad

Arguably the worst Jurassic Park/Jurassic World movie (though I don’t see any counterarguments), Dominion is so bad it’s baffling. I’m not going to lie, I was excited to see this when it first came out, and did everything I could to see it after coming back from a family vacation. You have the OG JP cast back in action, you have the continuation of the decent enough arc from the previous two JW movies, and we even have Dodgson here (just played by a different actor this time).

Despite all of that, this movie didn’t just fall short of the hype; it fell flat on its face, and I’ve spent way too much time trying to understand how it could be so bad. It’s not just the lake of dinosaurs and the abundance of giant locusts, but that is part of it. Clocking in at just under two-and-a-half-hours long, this movie feels so disjointed, unoriginal, and straight up lame, if I’m being honest.

The Movie Doesn’t Know What It Wants To Be, And That’s A Major Problem

I understand that director Colin Trevorrow was forced to cut a decent-sized chunk of Jurassic World Dominion to please Universal Pictures, and maybe that explains why the theatrical cut is so bad. What’s always stood out to me is the fact that the movie seems like it doesn’t know what it wants to be.

Does it want to be a legacy sequel with those iconic characters played by Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum? Does it want to be a continuation of the arc from Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom? Does it want to introduce new characters? The answer is yes to all three of those questions, and it makes a muddled, overlong mess of a story that is sometimes beyond comprehension.

While it’s not the worst movie I’ve ever seen in the theater, an honor that currently goes to Chris Pratt’s Mercy, it’s an experience that I won’t ever forget, for all the wrong reasons. It’d be a different story if I weren’t a massive fan of the franchise, but since I am, it hurt so bad seeing how they massacred my boy like this.

If you so desire, you can watch Jurassic World Dominion and the rest of the Jurassic World movies on Netflix, though you’ll have to go elsewhere to watch the legendary 1993 franchise starter.

In the broad view of their respective careers, Scarlett Johansson and Sam Neill would probably be connected by most via their roles in one of the biggest franchises of all time: Jurassic Park. Neill, of course, starred in the original movie, Jurassic Park III, and Jurassic World: Dominion, and Johansson began the new era of the canon last year with Jurassic World Rebirth. Long before they had dinos in common, however, the two actors previously had a chance to work together on 1998’s The Horse Whisperer, and more than a quarter-century later, the Kiwi actor still has some lingering paternal feelings.

Thanks to the new Super Bowl ad in which he is featured, Neill recently got talking about his time in the Jurassic franchise in conversation with Entertainment Weekly, and he was specifically asked about his relationship with Johansson vis-à-vis her new position as the face of the brand. While it’s been nearly two decades since they last had the chance to work together, he has nothing but feelings of fondness towards his former co-star, saying,

Long before becoming formidable covert ops expert Zora Bennett in Jurassic World Rebirth, Scarlett Johansson played Grace MacLean in The Horse Whisperer – a girl who is involved in a tragic accident while out horseback riding with a friend. Both Grace and the formerly friendly equine are traumatized by the event, but Grace’s mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) learns about a “Horse Whisperer” (Robert Redford) who can help the animal, and his help leads to a healing path for them all.

Johansson is now known for big blockbusters like last year’s Jurassic adventure or all of the movies where she plays Natasha Romanoff a.k.a. Black Widow, but The Horse Whisperer was a massive hit when she was just 14 years old – the movie earning both positive reviews and $186.9 million at the global box office.

Someday seeing Scarlett Johansson and Sam Neill back on the big screen together again would be fun if not just for the trivia (maybe they can plan something for the 20th anniversary of The Horse Whisperer in 2028?). The most obvious path would be Neill’s Alan Grant showing up in a Jurassic World Rebirth sequel, and it’s hard to imagine anyone saying no to that idea after old and new generations from the franchise meeting in Jurassic World: Dominion led to over $1 billion in ticket sales worldwide.

Since the first movie released back in 1993, the Jurassic Park movies have been a vital part of the pop culture landscape. Just last year the franchise expanded with Jurassic World Rebirth, which is streaming with a Peacock subscription. This project had the potential to kickstart a new set of movies after Dominion's ending, starring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey. But would Chris Pratt return as Owen Grady in a future sequel? Here's what the actor said.

Pratt has been busy with plenty of franchise work lately, including his tenure as Star-Lord in the MCU (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription). Some fans want to see him onscreen with fellow Marvel star ScarJo in a Jurassic World movie, and while appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he was directly asked if he'd be interested in a fourth dino-centric movie. The actor responded, saying:

Do you hear that sound? It's Jurassic fans everywhere collectively cheering. It would be epic seeing Pratt and Johansson crossover for another installment of the beloved franchise, and it sounds like the Parks & Rec alum is open to reprising his role as Owen. He just would want to make sure that the story properly honors his work on his trilogy of movies. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Jurassic World was one of the ways Pratt transformed into a Hollywood leading man, and he remains a bankable action star to this day. While Dominion saw him work alongside the OG trio of Jurassic Park stars, there are plenty of moviegoers who want to see him share the screen with Scarlett Johansson in a sequel to Rebirth.

Jurassic World Rebirth did well at the box office, and ended up being the sixth highest grossing movie of 2025. Add in the fact that it stars a trio of outstanding actors including Sexiest Man Alive Jonathan Bailey, and it seems like a no-brainer that Universal would continue the franchise with a sequel. Although the studio hasn't officially greenlit another installment at the time of writing this story.

With the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise in the rear view, Chris Pratt's schedule might be more flexible for another Jurassic World movie. Because while the end of Guardians 3 claimed that Star-Lord would be back for upcoming Marvel movies, there's been no indication as to when this might happen. Unfortunately, he wasn't included in the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement.

All four of the Jurassic World movies are streaming on Peacock. As for Pratt, his new movie Mercy is in theaters now as part of the 2026 movie release list.

The Jurassic Park/World universe has seen plenty of actors play characters who’ve had dangerous experiences with dinosaurs. Some managed to come out of their respective situations relatively unscathed, while others ended up meeting their demise at the hands of the dinos. Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett survived the events of 2025’s Rebirth, and I’d like to think the actress herself could’ve, too. When it comes to whether her husband, Colin Jost, or his buddy, Michael Che would live, though, Johansson has a very clear answer.

Surviving in a dinosaur-inhabited world is no small feat, and I’m not sure many would be able to handle it. It’s because of Johansson’s physicality and cleverness that I’m tempted to believe the Marvel alum could hold her own against some of the most ferocious prehistoric beasts. When she appeared on The Tonight Show (as shared to YouTube), Johansson played a game in which Jimmy Fallon had her choose between a pair of stars and determine whether they could survive the beasts. When faced with Jost and Che, Johansson said:

So the Phoenician Scheme star attributes her hubby’s survival to the fact that he’s from Staten Island and has the potential to deal with dangerous situations. That’s a fair answer (though I’m not sure I’d advise Colin Jost to use his and Pete Davidson’s Staten Island Ferry to navigate Mosasaurus-infested waters). I’m now wondering whether Jost himself believes he could survive in a place like Île Saint-Hubert. Considering Jost’s self-deprecating nature, I imagine he’d have a funny take.

I suppose this means that – at least in this case – Michael Che would be dinosaur chow. However, Scarlett Johansson also named a few others who would fall prey and meet grisly ends comparable to those who’ve lost their lives in the Jurassic Park saga. When faced with longtime co-stars Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, Johansson gave the advantage to Aussie Hemsworth. The actress also took (marine-turned-actor) Adam Driver over Bill Murray, Brie Larson over Florence Pugh and Sofia Coppola over Wes Anderson.

Jurassic World/Park has delivered some truly visceral deaths and, while they can be brutal, they certainly add to the spectacle. Scarlett Johansson’s own foray into the franchise also included some bloody kills. For Johansson, joining the film was actually a dream come true, as she was a longtime fan of the franchise and even got to have a full-circle moment with her brother at a premiere. Rebirth also proved to be a box office success, as it grossed over $869 million worldwide against a reported budget between $180 and $225 million.

Another big-screen Jurassic follow-up has yet to be announced, so it’s unclear if Johansson will be reprising her role anytime soon. Should she do it, though, I’d now love to see Colin Jost play a character alongside her. I’d like to think audiences would pay to see the real-life couple trying to evade dinosaurs on the big screen. Alas, that’s just a pipe dream right now, though I’d still love to see Jost play a character who may or may not be able to survive.

It’s not every day a Hollywood blockbuster makes cinematic history, not just at the box office, but in the way it absolutely goes for it on screen. When Jurassic World roared into theaters in 2015, it gave audiences one of the most unexpectedly brutal death scenes in modern blockbuster and Jurassic series history. This is the wild story of how the sequence came to be and how the actress played a hand in one of the franchise's most unforgettable exits.

More than a decade later, the internet still hasn’t let go of this brutal on-screen death, likely because we can revisit it over and over with a Peacock subscription. The scene in question? Zara Young’s mid-air dino juggling act turned Mosasaurus snack attack. The conversation flared back up when X (formerly Twitter) user @DynamoSuperX posted a clip of the Jurassic character's death, with the caption:

From there, it snowballed. Another post by @americanrequiem added fuel to the fire by sharing a clip from behind the scenes. If you watch it below, you can hear the actress Katie McGrath talk about the gruesome moment about to take place, and she sounds pumped.

The sequence, if you’ve somehow avoided it, shows McGrath’s character being scooped up by Pteranodon, dropped into the maws of another, screaming mid-air before the gigantic Mosasaurus devours her—essentially the dinosaur death equivalent of a Final Destination Rube Goldberg machine death. The scene is as brutal as it is bizarrely elaborate, and it left a lot of people wondering: Why this character, and why that death? The real answer is that Katie McGrath asked for it.

Katie McGrath Demanded A Memorable Death

McGrath, best known for her TV roles as Morgana in Merlin and Lena Luthor on Supergirl, had just landed her first big studio blockbuster role when she joined the cast of Jurassic World as Zara Young, Claire Dearing’s high-strung personal assistant. Her screen time was limited, but McGrath made it count by requesting a memorable death that would leave an impression. Director Colin Trevorrow was entirely on board.

As he mentioned to UPROXX in 2016, he wanted Zara’s demise to be shocking, calling it an “unearned death,” one where a seemingly safe, undeserving character is killed brutally to throw the audience off balance.

What we got was a full-blown dino attack that is more gruesome than some of the deaths in the best horror movies I've seen. And here’s the twist: McGrath did every part of it herself. She was strapped into a harness, hoisted into the air, dropped into a massive water tank, and filmed as she thrashed underwater. In the behind-the-scenes footage above, McGrath joked about the torment they were putting her through, but it was all very intense.

Others behind the scenes reveal she's got no wire on her at first, but that stunt people had to come and add the wires mid-scene so she could get "flung" into the air. Scary.

The Scene's Over-the-Top Legacy

McGrath’s death scene instantly stood out in a movie packed with dinosaur carnage. It was the first time in the franchise a female character was killed on-screen, and it remains arguably the most brutal. Even Jurassic Park Original cast member and legend Sam Neill weighed in during a press junket, asking with a smirk:

Critics and fans remain split on the scene to this day. Some found it unnecessarily mean-spirited, even calling it “deeply unsettling” (Birth.Movies.Death), while others hailed it as one of the most memorable kills in the franchise. Whether you loved it or hated it, there’s no denying its impact. Zara’s death has been the subject of conversation for more than a decade. And all because Katie McGrath wanted to make a splash, and that, she did—literally! The actress made history as the first on-screen death of a female character in a Jurassic movie. Pretty cool.

Jurassic World Rebirth was one of the biggest 2025 movie releases at the box office, but following recent years of disappointment I’ve had about the series, I decided to skip out on going out to see it this summer. Now that it recently moved to streaming, I finally got the chance to watch it, and I have to say, it’s a lot better than I expected. I enjoyed how it included a lot of ingredients that made the original movie a classic, but also took some new turns with its storyline I hadn’t seen before. Because I watched it knowing a sequel is in development, I want to talk about what I’d want most out of a followup.

Earlier this month, a report came out that director Gareth Edwards is in “final negotiations” to helm another Jurassic World movie after Rebirth made $868.8 million worldwide after opening during 4th of July weekend. Here’s the main aspects from Rebirth I’d want to see continue in a sequel.

I Want To See Scarlett Johansson And Jonathan Bailey Lead It Again

Jurassic movies have been able to ride the line between being acclaimed and B-movie monster flicks thanks to the talented actors that have been a part of them for the past three decades. In terms of Rebirth, I found myself quickly getting invested in Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett and Jonathan Bailey’s Dr. Henry Loomis.

I’ve always liked the kind of magic Johansson can bring to the movies she stars in, but I think she especially fits well into her role as a covert operation expert. She’s set up as someone who agrees to the Jurassic mission to earn the riches she’s promised, but as the story goes along, it’s made clear that she’s not someone without values and a heroic quality to her. I was particularly impressed because there are not enough female action characters like her who actually feel like a real person, and aren’t inundated with these random superpower-like skills that make them pretty inaccessible.

And then there’s Jonathan Bailey’s Henry, who proves to be a lot more than just slutty little glasses, with his memorable performance as a paleontologist, who is revealed to have studied under Dr. Alan Grant. Bailey’s character brought the “brains” and curious wonder of dinosaurs to Johansson’s “brawn.” Zora and Henry are well written because they can balance each other out in a digestible way for a two-hour movie, and their chemistry was definitely palpable. I’d be really curious to see them evolve as characters together as they go through more dinosaur-related trials in a sequel.

As a sidenote, I also thought Mahershala Ali was a great presence in the movie – perhaps a little underutilized. I’d love to see him round out the trio, especially if he’s given an expanded role as Duncan Kincaid.

I'm Still Interested In The Idea Of The World Getting Bored Of Dinosaurs

While I was initially not very interested by Rebirth after a mixed reception (including our two-star Jurassic World Rebirth review), when I ended up checking it out myself, one main concept of the film really made me sit up and pay attention. I’m talking about the fact that the movie takes place years after dinosaurs have been reintroduced into the population. Rather than the human race continuing to use dinosaurs as a point of theme park entertainment, they’ve collectively gotten bored of the previously extinct animals, and they’ve been mostly left alone to live in the tropics.

When Zora, Henry and company seek some dinosaurs out it's in order to collect biomaterial within three of the species’ blood that could help cure cardiovascular disease. After much of the Jurassic World franchise focusing on the ways in which humans would react to the ability to bring back dinosaurs, I found it really interesting for the series to talk about the human race’s inherent tendency to get bored and take for granted new developments and technologies at a quick pace. I mean we live in a world where we can fly across the world, and there are self-driving cars, and it feels like we’ve already moved on from thinking about how amazing these inventions are, and as a society continue to be obsessed with what we haven’t figured out. Nothing is ever enough for us.

Rebirth ends with Zora and Henry having the biomaterials in hand, but I think there could be more to the story here. If a bunch of people are treated with dino DNA, there could certainly be some unintended consequences to the patients. And, what about more peril for the dinosaurs – such as mining them extensively for these materials if it does end up curing people.

I Want To See What Happens With Dolores

Lastly, I’m also quite invested in the sweet bond that takes place between Isabella Delgado and a baby dino named Dolores. By the end of the movie, the youngest Delgado family member takes Dolores out of her home to become her pet. Since Dolores is an Aquilops, which are small dinosaurs that are the size of a house cat or rabbit, the family doesn’t have to worry about Dolores getting any bigger, but I am worried about what the dino will do if they try to domesticate her.

We haven’t really seen this idea play out in a Jurassic movie, and I’d like to see more from Isabella and Dolores in a sequel. Not only does it intrigue me from a conceptual point of view, it also feels like a smart way for the series to have a little bit of Spielbergian E.T. vibes to it. We also don’t know if Dolores can survive outside the tropics, and I’m a little worried about that.

So, there are a lot of interesting threads for the sequel to use from here, and after the franchise has been mostly about theme park dinos, I’m really interested for the first time in a while. It’s nice to see Jurassic tackling new ideas rather than retreading too much, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.

Actor Jonathan Bailey's star power has been steadily growing for the past few years, starting with his debut in Bridgerton (which is streaming with a Netflix subscription). He became a bona fide gay movie star with roles in Wicked and Jurassic World Rebirth, the latter of which he went viral for wearing "slutty little glasses" in. I recently re-watched that title for the first time, and I've got to say that he's so much more than just a pretty face.

Rebirth recently became streamable for those with a Peacock subscription, so I obviously had to give it a second watch. And while Bailey, who recently was named the Sexiest Man Alive, is still swoon-worthy, he brings so much charm to his character that it really helps to buoy the movie as a whole. Let's break it all down.

Jonathan Bailey Is Insanely Charismatic In Jurassic World Rebirth

The Fellow Travelers actor has become a bit of a sex symbol in the last few years. Bailey's slutty little glasses continue to break the internet, and he famously went viral for kissing Scarlet Johansson at Jurassic World Rebirth's premieres. But sometimes that chatter can undermine just how endlessly captivating he is as an actor. And his work as Dr. Loomis is so much deeper than his chiseled bone structure and A+ harness work.

Every Jurassic movie needs a scientist or two, and Bailey's Dr. Loomis fills that important role in Rebirth. What's more, his character even studied with Alan Grant, offering a fun connection to previous installments. His wonder and respect for the dinosaurs help to give the new movie some much-needed levity, as also watch the characters (especially the Delgado family) struggle to survive their time on Ile Saint-Hubert.

While there was some criticism about the characters being surface-level in Jurassic World Rebirth, I found Jonathan Bailey endlessly charming throughout its runtime. His chemistry with Scarlett Johansson, which also extends off-camera, is another boon for this new installment in the long-running sci-fi franchise. So while the Wicked star is still easy on the eyes, he's a wildly talented actor who is endlessly watchable.

Jurassic World Rebirth performed well at the box office and is currently the fourth-highest-grossing movie of 2025. But we're still waiting on news about whether or not Universal will move forward and give it a sequel. I personally hope that a follow-up movie will be announced, and we get a chance to see the surviving characters' relationships deepen. And who doesn't want to see more of Bailey and ScarJo?

Like most people, I believe there’s only one truly great Jurassic Park movie, and that’s the original based on the Michael Crichton novel of the same name. I’ve enjoyed some of the sequels, but the Jurassic World films haven’t really delivered for me. That said, I genuinely liked Jurassic World Rebirth. Fortunately, it looks like the dinosaurs aren’t going extinct anytime soon. That assertion is based on a new update regarding Universal Pictures's dino-centric franchise.

Universal is reportedly looking to reassemble the core creative team behind Rebirth for a follow-up film. According to a report from industry insider Jeff Sneider’s newsletter (via ComicBook.com), Director Gareth Edwards is said to be in “final negotiations” to return. Also, lead stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey are all expected to reprise their roles. With no official release date locked in, the project is still in early stages, but the studio’s confidence in the IP and Edwards’ vision seems clear. Why A Jurassic Sequel Makes Sense

There’s little doubt this franchise remains a box office juggernaut. Jurassic World Rebirth currently ranks as the fourth highest-grossing film of 2025 worldwide, trailing only A Minecraft Movie, Lilo & Stitch, and Ne Zha 2. Given the shrinking window of major studio tentpoles left on the 2025 movie schedule, Rebirth is almost guaranteed to finish the year in the global top 10. That’s an enviable spot, especially as other blockbuster genres—particularly new superhero films—have seen sharp declines in theatrical interest. Dinosaurs, it seems, still have their pull.

Yet let's hope this isn’t a case of the powers that be at Universal being so preoccupied with whether they can, they don’t stop to think whether they should. The commercial case is clear; the creative one is murkier. Despite intriguing concepts like dinosaurs existing in the modern world, the newer installments have struggled to recapture the narrative spark and emotional stakes of Steven Spielberg’s original 1993 classic.

Rebirth drew flak for a formulaic plot and thin character development and, while Johansson, Ali and Bailey brought star power and charisma, their characters haven’t quite reached iconic status.

Will Audiences Show Up For A Sequel?

Universal now faces a pivotal decision: double down on what’s worked financially or take a creative risk to revitalize the franchise. As Rebirth came in well below the billion-dollar benchmark hit by 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, there’s concern that the series may be approaching franchise fatigue. Past performance suggests that mixed word of mouth could put a dent in future box office returns, just ask Jurassic Park III and its talking dino.

Universal has a strong opportunity for success with another sequel if Gareth Edwards returns as director and the proven cast comes back. If the next installment can explore new narrative and thematic ground, it could revitalize the Jurassic Park film franchise, whose own legacy has overshadowed it for decades. While the next move may be risky, the foundation for success is already in place.

As is, the Jurassic World universe isn’t necessarily one we’d love to exist within. If we’ve learned anything while watching those movies, it's that dinosaurs are super terrifying and are not meant to co-exist with humans. While the star of its latest movie, Jurassic World Rebirth, didn’t work with actual dinos, of course, she did have her own run-ins with terrifying and dangerous critters.

Scarlett Johansson and the cast of Jurassic World Rebirth ventured off to Thailand, specifically in the provinces of Phang Nga, Krabi and Trang, to make Rebirth. The actress, who admit she’s “a city girl”, said there were some “pretty serious creature critters.” This anecdote she told Today really helps sum it up:

In other words, critters were so common on the set of Rebirth that there was a “pit crew” out there with them whose job was to extinguish all the poisonous things around, if I understand correctly. This set sounds like a true sight to behold, and one that would have had me on said coffee table pointing and screaming.

While Scarlett Johansson said she was all for shooting in the "majestic settings” rather than in front of a wall of green or blue screen, there were a lot of “obvious drawbacks".” One of them is confronting a lot of critters, and her “greatest phobia” is apparently cockroaches. Oh, and then there’s the fact that the Jurassic World movie was shot during monsoon season. Johansson also said she watched her costar Mahershala Ali “melt like human candle” on set, too.

The film received mixed reactions from moviegoers overall, mostly from critics, such as our Jurassic World Rebirth review giving it two out of five stars, while another one of our writers said it was the Jurassic World movie they enjoyed the most. No matter your thoughts, you have to give it to Johansson for sticking it out, despite not being the biggest fan of some of her unexpected co-stars on the set.

It was certainly all worth it in the end considering Rebirth is one of the biggest 2025 movie releases (so far), standing at No. 4 worldwide right now, and it led to the actress becoming the highest-grossing actor worldwide. Jurassic World Rebirth has hit the box office in stride and, as its haul grows, the cast and crew have much to celebrate. Of course, that’s a testament to the hard work they put in while crafting the film. It goes without saying that it takes a lot to bring together the ingredients to make a Jurassic film. However, it would seem that everyone also had some time to relax amid the shoot as well. That downtime came courtesy of lead actress Scarlett Johansson, who treated her colleagues to a very fancy outing, which is making me feel FOMO.

Everyone needs a break once in a while, and that includes the cast and crew of one of the biggest films on the 2025 movie schedule. Scarlett Johansson seemed to be aware of that very fact, considering the story that one of her co-stars recently shared. Rising actress Audrina Miranda, who plays the wide-eyed Isabella Delgado in Rebirth, spoke to Page Six about Johansson’s generosity. The 12-year-old actress revealed that the Oscar nominee arranged for the cast to spend a day enjoying themselves on the water:

Imagine soaking up rays with the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey on a sweet yacht. Yeah, if I think too hard about it, I might become a bit envious of the whole situation. That almost sounds like a dream day for a fan. Still, I love that Johansson arranged that for her co-stars, as I’d imagine that could’ve served as some solid bonding time for the ensemble as they worked on the film in Malta and Thailand. This gesture also probably shouldn’t be too surprising, given Johansson's experience with long shoots.

For her part, Audrina Miranda had a blast and, as she explained she even earned herself $50, thanks to completing a challenge. Miranda explained that someone offered her that money to jump off the boat, and she explained during her interview, “it was worth it.” The child star also shared thoughts on the Black Widow star, and they’re so sweet:

Being a part of the Jurassic Park universe has been something of a dream for Scarlett Johansson. It was actually her longtime fandom that prompted producer Steven Spielberg to cast her in the role of mercenary Zora Bennett. Eventually, Johansson even had a full-circle moment with her brother at the Rebirth premiere. Considering her fandom, I think it’d be fair to assume that Johansson would’ve wanted to make the most of her time on set filming the flick.

Whether the fan-favorite actress will get the chance to reprise her role as Zora at some point down the road remains to be seen. Thanks to Rebirth’s ending, the future of the Jurassic franchise seems bright, as there are plenty of storytelling options for the producers to choose from. So it’s very possible that Scarlett Johansson could reprise her role and, if that’s the case, here’s hoping she treats her castmates to another fun day on a yacht. (Meanwhile, I’d just have to live vicariously through them.)

Jurassic World Rebirth's box office progress so far seems to have stirred something in the collective thoughts of fans who went to see it, and they’re not shy about sharing the directions in which they want a potential sequel to go .

Some story ideas recur more than others, while some are clearly thrown out as trolling jabs at things they may not have liked about Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey’s adventures in genetics. For the sake of our sanity, let’s start with that last group.

Ok, Jurassic World Fans: Let’s Get The Rebirth Trolling Out Of The Way

It all started with a user on Twitter offering the Jurassic fandom a blank check, asking social media users how they would craft their dream follow-up in the series. Sure enough, some less than happy campers were lured into taking the DNA out of the seventh Jurassic installment. If you’ve got one of Rebirth’s ultra cool popcorn buckets, I hope you have it ready for the following criticisms:

• “You see there was ANOTHER undiscovered island where they really kept the worst of the worst and they need to get something left in a fridge or something. Meanwhile another stupid family gets trapped there at the exact same time.” - @harosa
• “They all go to jail for breaking into a restricted area to steal biological material xD? There should be no direct sequel.” - @MDK42
• “Return to the island to take out that abomination thing (should have happened at the end of Rebirth)” - @Davidoz961

Alrighty! Now that the trolling pen has been fed, let’s get into some of the actually good ideas for where the Jurassic Universe should go next. Apologies to anyone who wanted to dig into Human/Dino hybrid pitches, as they won’t be appearing.

Jurassic Prequel Pitches With A-List Stars Are Also A Huge Hit

Did I know that I needed a movie where Sigourney Weaver plays the never-before-seen mother to Jurassic Park’s Lex and Tim Murphy? Not prior to this moment, no. After reading that suggestion, and these other prequel-centric loglines, it's hard not to think about working backwards in the Jurassic legacy:

• “I would like to see a prequel series that fill in the gaps of the cloning/genetic experiments origins to how the D-Rex and other failed/successful attempts came into reality. There is much information to fill in with not only John's Success, but also Dr. Lockwood and Dr. Dodgson” - @LeagueOf_T2
• “I think we forget Hammond had a daughter. Bring in Sigourney Weaver or something and play around with that.” - @candidshark
• “Flashback. Tom Hiddleston plays a young John Hammond. Early cloning, disaster ensues. Etc.” - @Milt98C

Look, as much as I’d love to say that Tom Hiddleston cures all, I don’t think casting him as John Hammond would work. I think we need an authentic Scot for that character, and if suggestions are being taken, I'd throw Slow Horses' Jack Lowden's hat into the ring.

These prequel ideas are good starts, but we need to hit the really good ideas – the Glengarry Glen Ross-asaurus pitches that could get a greenlight if Jurassic World Rebirth cashes in hard. Luckily enough, there is not one, but two pitches from the conversation I think could find a way to bringing us a prime adventure where dinosaurs roam the Earth again.

Two A+ Ideas Have Me Very Hopeful For A Jurassic World Rebirth Sequel

Our first crackerjack idea for the next Jurassic World movie keeps the cast of characters introduced in Rebirth but moves them into a new setting. What’s more, per David Koepp’s Jurassic Story Commandments, this idea wouldn’t ignore or conflict with the latest events in @StudiosRemember's pitch below:

All I have to say is: "dinosaur western," "Taylor Sheridan," "T. rex train station." Do with that what you will, but I'm on board with a roving adventure to save the dinosaurs.

While I admit my concern with Dolores’ post-Jurassic World Rebirth fate has been off-putting, a suggestion from user @RoarReximus sees the Delgado family’s new dino adoption leading to this scenario:

That's a lot to think about, so I think we should leave things there. Unless anyone wants to talk about the Delgado family's possible ties to the Jurassic past? Jurassic World Rebirth is still showing in theaters, ready to inspire you to dream of a better, dinosaur inclusive tomorrow.

Journeying through the 2025 movie schedule can be a beast, especially when you’re put face to face with mutated prehistoric killers. Or at least that’s what the effects wizards in Hollywood would have you believe, as Jurassic World Rebirth shows stars like Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson fending off InGen’s most deadly creations.

That’s the subject that leads to a pretty burning question, and no I’m not talking about “How real is Rebirth’s T. rex swimming scene?” Rather, the pair got together for a sitdown with British Vogue, to discuss what the “most annoying question” about the picture happened to be. As Mr. Bailey and his dear friend played a game of “Spill the Tea,” the Rebirth co-stars showed off their insane chemistry by asking each other questions.

It just so happened that Scarlett Johansson got this first question, and as you’ll see in Jonathan Bailey’s response, he was honest but fair:

Ever since the Star Wars prequels bust onto the scene, acting against tennis balls has been something people identify with big budget effects movies. Despite knowing how the dino sausage is made myself, I understand what the Bridgerton heartthrobshas to say here. To most people who don’t follow the production of projects like Jurassic World Rebirth, the snippets of the process they do know are a window of curiosity.

So as people revisit the Jurassic Park and World movies (which are currently streaming through a Peacock subscription), there are going to be a lot of questions about how they got the job done this time around. It’s as perennial an ask as the elements of a good Jurassic movie; and there’s just as many answers that can come from posing any form of such queries.

Which in turn leads to Scarlett Johansson’s take on this question. In response to Jonathan Bailey’s answer, Johansson’s title of the “all-time highest grossing actor” served her well, as her experiences led her to another thought:

This could honestly turn into a rabbit hole, but for our purposes, it’s an example of why there’s no such things as a bad question. They might get asked a lot, and it may get annoying to have to endure various variations. But with the right mind, you can bring something new to the table each time.

Jurassic World Rebirth is still in theaters, so you have plenty of time to go out to the movies and form your own questions. I could think of at least a handful that would pertain to my concerns with Rebirth’s breakout dino Dolores; and now I'm wondering just how long the batteries on her practical backpack mounted unit last?

I'm sorry, but there's only one genuinely great Jurassic Park movie, and that's the original.

Based on the Michael Crichton novel of the same name, all of the subsequent films have been either just okay for me, or verging on terrible, with The Lost World and Jurassic Park III being in the “just okay” category, and the Jurassic World movies being in the “verging on terrible” category.

Or, at least that's what I thought until I watched Jurassic World Rebirth, which is the most recent movie in the Jurassic World saga. And, while my colleague, Mike Reyes, wasn’t the biggest fan of the movie, given his review, Rebirth is actually the first film in the Jurassic World franchise that I genuinely liked. Here’s why.

I Feel Like This Movie Wasn't Just Trying To Be Jurassic Park 2.0

Do you want to know one thing I really don’t like? When legacy sequels try to throw in as much fan service as possible (Think the Star Wars sequels. Or, even more egregious, the later Ghostbusters films).

Now, I must applaud the first Jurassic World since I feel like they did their best to try to avoid this. What I mean is, with the first Jurassic World, we got mostly all new characters, save for B.D. Wong from the first movie, as well as a brand new park. That said, it really did kind of feel like a modern day retelling of the first movie when it all was said and done.

The second World movie, Fallen Kingdom, initially felt like it was trying something new with the whole volcano thing, but when it all came down to it, it still felt like it was trying to recapture the magic of the earlier Jurassic Park movies.

Dominion was the weird one with the locusts, but it also relied on bringing back fan favorites like Ian Malcolm, Alan Grant, and Ellie Sattler. And, as I alluded to earlier, I don’t like when characters from older movies get trotted back into later ones since even with a brand new plot, it still feels like it’s trying to relive the past.

However, Jurassic World Rebirth is different. It doesn’t feel like it’s trying to make you remember all about the previous Jurassic Park movies. Instead, with its simple, almost video game-y plot, its new characters, and even its new dino (The D-Rex!), it really does feel like a rebirth of sorts that’s wholly unique from the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World movies, which I genuinely like.

I Enjoyed The Super Silly Plot This Time Around, Too

Let me be real with you. Aside from the first Jurassic World movie, I think Fallen Kingdom, and especially Dominion had really silly plots. That said, even though I love so-bad-they’re-good movies, I didn’t like the silly plots in those two films. Dominion especially just felt like the series was going off the deep end at times, and I was already tired of plot devices like cloned daughters, and dinosaurs living with humans.

Even so, I really like the super basic plot of Jurassic World Rebirth. A skilled team goes out to an island that houses the dinosaurs that were too weird for the original park, and the team is there to get blood samples (One from a land dinosaur, one from a sea “dinosaur” –aka a mosasaur, and one from a flying “dinosaur”--a pterosaur).

The blood samples from these massive, almost boss-like creatures will provide a possible cure for heart disease, and so the team shoots needles into creatures, only for the needles to fly up with a parachute once the blood has been extracted.

I mean, is that kind of stupid? Yes. But is it also fun? I think so! And, fun is kind of what I feel has been missing from these Jurassic World movies. Because, look. There is no way that any movie can recapture the wonder of that first Jurassic Park movie (which is also one of those rare films that is arguably superior to the book).

That said, Jurassic World Rebirth doesn’t even seem to be trying to be like the old films. It’s just a silly, enjoyable movie with dinosaurs, and for somebody who has now seen four of these World movies, “silly” and “enjoyable” is all I really need.

I Actually Enjoyed The New Characters As Well

No disrespect to Chris Pratt or Bryce Dallas Howard, but I don’t think I would have even watched Jurassic World Rebirth if they returned for this fourth film. And, that’s because I’m pretty sick of Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, who Pratt and Howard played respectively.

I’m also sick of Ian Malcolm, Alan Grant, and Ellie Sattler. In fact, I’m just sick of everything connected to Jurassic Park/World at this point frankly. So, really, I welcomed any new characters that we were going to get, and they didn't necessarily have to be good, three-dimensional characters, either. Just different.

These low expectations were good, because the new characters are as basic as you can get.

Scarlett Johansson is our star, and she plays a mercenary. What kind? Does it really matter? She's good during action scenes. Mahershala Ali plays the team leader who pilots the boat. And he, uh…leads (and is also probably a good swimmer). Jonathan Bailey is a scientist who chews mints loudly, and Rupert Friend is an evil businessman.

We also have a father with two kids, and he takes along his eldest daughter's boyfriend as well. The boyfriend is annoying at first, but then turns out to be a good guy by the end. Yes, all of these characters are pretty paint-by-numbers, but they're also a nice change of pace from the previous World movies, and that works for me!

For Once, Everything Worked In The Story

This might seem like an odd thing to compliment, but for once in one of these World movies, I feel like everything just works. Let me explain.

The main story consists of the mission to retrieve the blood samples from the various dinosaurs. For that story, we have our main team, led by Johansson and Ali. They only have a limited time since a helicopter is going to come to pick them up, so that's solid.

The secondary story concerns the father, his two children, and the boyfriend in tow. The dad, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, is your standard protective father. He winds up sailing into dino territory, and the main team picks them up on a rescue mission. The family manages to get separated from the main team, and they also wander the island (as well as get featured in arguably the best scene in the whole movie).

And, do you know what? It all just works. The old World movies just felt like a hodgepodge of ideas, and I was often bored by both A and B stories with the other films.

But, by making everything as basic and one-note as possible in Rebirth, I actually found myself engaged in the entire package. This actually makes me excited for another World movie, which leads me to my final point.

In The End, I'd Actually Want To See Another World Movie, Which I Can't Say I Did In The Past

Do you remember the Hobbit movies? Besides being the worst films in The Lord of the Rings saga, they also got progressively worse as they went along.

I bring this up since it’s the same way I felt about the Jurassic World movies. Yes, I had seen all of them, but like the Hobbit flicks, I felt like I HAD to, rather than wanted to. I mean, once I commit to something, it’s hard for me to let go.

Even so, when it came to the Jurassic World movies, three was enough for me. And, after how bad Dominion was, I had settled on not watching another one ever again for the rest of my life. In fact, if not for my son wanting to see this new one (It was his first Jurassic movie in the theaters), I honestly would have skipped out on this one.

However, now that I saw it, I want to see another one, which I can’t believe I’m saying. But, I like the new direction of this franchise, and I’d even like to see these characters return for another adventure. How weird is that?

Jumping into something like Jurassic World Rebirth can be daunting for two very important reasons; and only one of them is the dinosaurs. Joining a 2025 movie that’s part of a legacy including iconic cast members like Jeff Goldblum is something any actor might want to get advice for. Lucky for Jonathan Bailey, not only did he have a chance to gain such wisdom on the Wicked press tour, he got a purely Goldblum response for the ages.

Appearing on Capital FM’s Capital Breakfast in a recent sit down, Bailey was lovingly grilled on everything from Dr. Henry Loomis’ “modest” trousers to accidentally headbutting Ariana Grande in a Wicked rehearsal. The focus of our story comes from promoting Jon M. Chu’s 2024 musical hit, which allowed the break out Bridgerton star to tell this lovely story:

I don’t care what you’re talking about at the moment, getting that sort of go ahead from Jeff Goldblum is gospel. As we’ve seen with Goldblum’s message to Scarlett Johansson, the Jurassic Park movie franchise vet has been uber supportive of the next generation.

So if anyone was going to be putting pressure on Jonathan Bailey during Rebirth's production, it was going to be himself. Which may or may not have included a moment to puzzle out whether those questions about Scarlett Johansson's Rebirth fate were valid or not.

While Bailey understood the weight of Jurassic World Rebirth’s various challenges, he tackled them all admirably. Though with Mr. Goldblum's voice in his ear, I wouldn’t be surprised if part of his prep included rewatching the entire Jurassic universe by way of a Peacock subscription.

Whether that’s true or not, this stage and screen vet still went into director Gareth Edwards’ picture with this beautiful mantra in mind:

One could imagine that if Mr. Bailey doesn’t already know Jeff Goldblum’s thoughts on his Rebirth appearance, he’ll find out soon enough. With Wicked: For Good’s November release date starting to rev up its promotional engines, the press tour ahead will put these legends back into the same room. Jurassic World Rebirth is currently in theaters, with Jonathan Bailey’s contribution to cinematic academia available on the big screen. As for when you’ll get to see him dance through life as Fiyero in Wicked: For Good, November 21st is the day you should be clearing off on your calendar.

The Jurassic Universe has steadily expanded since Steven Spielberg’s acclaimed 1993 sci-fi/adventure film hit theaters all those years ago. It goes without saying that the films are known for featuring plenty of spectacle, specifically dinosaur-centric mayhem. That’s not all it takes to make a good Jurassic Park film, however. CinemaBlend had the opportunity to speak to the cast of the franchise’s latest installment, Jurassic World Rebirth, during which they weighed in on what they believe to be the important ingredients for these blockbusters.

CinemaBlend's own Hannah Saulic had the opportunity to speak with Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth’s release. It was during that conversation that Hannah appealed to Johannson’s longtime love of the franchise (which factored into Steven Spielberg’s decision to cast her as Zora Bennett). When weighing in on what makes a good Jurassic film, Johansson shared some keen thoughts:

Everything the Oscar nominee says there is true, and her co-stars also made some solid points as well. Jonathan Bailey – who plays Dr. Henry Loomis in Rebirth – went on to say that a “sense of adventure” akin to the Goonies is also required for a good Jurassic installment. Meanwhile, Duncan Kincaid portrayer Mahershala Ali, also mentioned “good deaths.” That’s what led the Black Widow alum to share the following sentiment:

Jokes aside, the stars are right in that the best Jurassic Park movies (which are streamable with a Peacock subscription) manage to balance spectacle, character moments and intrigue. While the original film is iconic for its trailblazing visual effects, it’s also highly regarded for its story, which features layered characters played by impeccable actors. I mean, it’s hard to top the performances of the likes of Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sir Richard Attenborough. Of course, the visually stunning scenes hit hard as well, such as that first shot of the brachiosaurus, and the characters’ first encounter with the Tyrannosaurus rex.

Rebirth director Gareth Edwards sought to create a movie that also utilized the best elements from the franchise. He assembled a likable cast and aimed to expand upon the mythology laid out in this dino-dominated film saga thus far. Of course, there are also more than a few scares as well as a scene that sees a T. Rex swimming after scurrying human beings. If that doesn’t count as one of the “thrills” Scarlett Johansson refers to, then I don’t know what would.

When it comes to the future of the Jurassic franchise, I’d expect other filmmakers to adhere to the points laid out by the Rebirth stars. It remains to be seen just how those directors will manage to build upon what’s come before and keep things fresh. As is the case with life, though, I’m sure they’ll, uh, find a way.

It could be said that 2025 has been an interesting time for dinosaur fans thanks to Jurassic World Rebirth’s current run in theaters. Then again, that outlook may be a touch too positive depending on who you’re talking to, as critical reaction to Rebirth hasn’t been as kind.

But things could be worse! That development is a bit of a “glass half full vs. half empty” scenario, especially when put in the full context of the franchise’s critic approval rating percentages on Rotten Tomatoes. Looking at the numbers for both the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies, Steven Spielberg’s entry in the canon of the best ‘90s movies obviously sits at the top of the list. As you’ll see with the full list of the Jurassic Universe’s critic scores below, the legacy and reception of everything outside of that sci-fi classic is open to discussion:

Even putting my actual admiration for Jurassic World Dominion aside, I’m still shocked to see director Colin Trevorrow’s second dino blockbuster ranking as low it does. For now, I'll take solace in the fact that Jeff Goldblum's feelings on Dominion share the same sort of disappointment that the third Jurassic World entry is, by the numbers, the bottom of the barrel.

This then leads to scratching one's head when noticing that somehow Jurassic Park III got a stronger reception than both Dominion and Fallen Kingdom. Yes, the same 2001 sequel that broke up Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler is somehow pretty highly on the list. The exact movie – streamable with a Peacock subscription – that gave us this scene is somehow the second most rotten entry:

Reckoning with that reality only leads one to spiral further down when one recognizes that only two titles in the Michael Crichton-inspired saga are actually sporting “Fresh” ratings. Right about now is when the bleakness is kicking in, because even a Distortus Rex would be likely to read that news and start humming “What Was I Made For?” in the corner.

Don’t cry, D-Rex; I can answer that existential question with two words: “The Fans.” Though the Jurassic movies have had a rough go with critics for the majority of its run, the fans still show up. Jurassic World Rebirth’s opening weekend grosses may seem to counter that assumption, but with an apparent rebound in terms of how critics see this franchise overall, things might turn alright in the end.

Jurassic World Rebirth is pretty early in its theatrical run, which means there’s plenty of time for fans to catch Scarlett Johansson’s battle with dinosaurs. As for the rest of the franchise, everything but Jurassic World is available to stream through Peacock – which is perfect for those of you who want to update their personal franchise rankings.

Scarlett Johansson once said that for “like 15 years,” she’s wanted to be in a Jurassic Park movie. As luck would have it, her wish was granted, as she's now the lead ofJurassic World Rebirth. The prospect of getting to lead such a massive film seems cool enough on its own. However, during a premiere for the 2025 movie release, Johansson had a “full circle moment” she had with her twin brother, and this is yet another sweet sibling story from the actress.

The Lost in Translation alum is a birthday twin to longtime co-star Mark Ruffalo and even has a Black Widow look-alike on TikTok. However, Scarlett Johansson has a real twin brother of her own named Hunter, who’s apparently a huge Jurassic Park fan. While at Rebirth’s New York premiere, Scarlett told E! News just how much of a fan her twin bro is of the sci-fi thriller franchise:

It's incredibly sweet to hear that Scarlett Johansson has such immense support for her. Also, how cool must it be for Hunter to know that his sibling is now part of such an immense franchise? Of course, made the event a truly special moment for both of the siblings, however, was the fact that both siblings grew up loving the blockbuster dinosaur franchise. As Scarlett later said:

While I definitely love this affection and shared fandom between siblings, I'm always delighted when Scarlett Johansson reminds us that she’s a twin. It’s a little celebrity tidbit that's easy to forget and still amuses a person when they're reminded of it. While we've seen celebrity siblings working side-by-side like the Olsen Twins or Tia and Tamera Mowry, some stars have twins who aren’t in the entertainment business. For instance, Rami Malek’s twin brother or Jon Heder’s brother aren't working actors.

I think it'd be cool if Scarlett and Hunter Johansson were to appear on screen together. However, given Scarlett's career, I'm glad that they can still share a moment like the one they had at the premiere. I also love the notion of Hunter orchestrating the great John Williams' music. Honestly, I'm sure plenty of fans would probably have a somewhat similarly visceral reaction to hearing that iconic Jurassic Park theme song.

Scarlett Johansson may not bring up the fact that she's a twin all that often. However, her anecdotes about her sibling never disappoint whenever they come into play. I'm hopeful that both of the Johanssons will hold onto the memory of that cool-sounding New York premiere for years to come. At present, though, fans can check out Jurassic World Rebirth for themselves, as it's currently playing in theaters nationwide.

It's hardly a secret that the films of the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World franchise do well at the box office. Audiences have demonstrated a passion for seeing dinosaur-filled action on the big screen for over 30 years. The launch of Gareth Edwards' Jurassic World: Rebirth has nonetheless been a test, however, as this is the first title in the series without a direct tie to Steven Spielberg's modern classic blockbuster and the first after the conclusion of the Chris Pratt/Bryce Dallas Howard-led trilogy. Can the series sustain success at the box office?

In the wake of the movie's five-day opening weekend, the answer appears to be yes... but with a few reservations. Jurassic World: Rebirth successfully debuted in the number one spot at the domestic box office, but the ticket sales aren't 100 percent up to franchise standards. Jurassic World: Rebirth Gets Off To The Slowest Start In The Modern Era Of The Franchise Amid The Independence Day Holiday Weekend

When Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World debuted in 2014, ending a 14 year big screen drought for the franchise, it did eye-popping business. The movie made a stunning $208.8 million in just its first weekend playing in the cinemas of the United States and Canada, and by the end of its theatrical run globally, it made $1.7 billion. The franchise has been chasing that level of success ever since – and it's hard not to notice that results have been diminishing.

J.A. Bayona's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opened making $148 million in 2018, and finished it's worldwide box office run having made $1.3 billion. Arriving five years later, Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World: Dominion (a trilogy capper full of returning stars from the original movies) opened with $145.1 million and finished its time on the big screen making $1 billion. This weekend, Jurassic World: Rebirth continued the pattern.

According to The Numbers, the new 2025 movie made $91.5 million in the last three days – with the mid-week debut pushing its domestic total to $147.3 million so far. Obviously the debut was padded with a couple extra days, but still I wonder about the potential negative impact of the Independence Day holiday: Friday is traditionally a big night for movie-going, but people around the country this past week were busy putting out picnic blankets and seeing the sky lit up by fireworks.

Jurassic World: Rebirth doesn't have the distinction of being the most expensive film in the franchise (a title that belongs to Jurassic World), but it was far from a shoestring blockbuster with a pre-marketing and publicity cost of $180 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It also unfortunately doesn't seem to be getting the blessing of positive buzz, with critics not giving it an overwhelming amount of love (CinemaBlend's Mike Reyes published a write-up with a two star rating). CinemaScore surveys haven't exactly gotten terrific results either, as audiences have delivered a "B" grade (the previous three Jurassic World movies have gotten "A," "A-" and "A-" grades, respectively).

Beyond just the domestic numbers, Jurassic World: Rebirth has made $318.3 million thus far worldwide. As far as franchise legacy is concerned, the title will likely need to join the 10 figure club if it's going to be deemed a success in the long run... and that's going to be pretty tricky if one considers the near future and the other titles soon arriving in theaters.

While it's often the case that the biggest blockbusters on the release schedule are given an extra week to dominate the big screen, Jurassic World: Rebirth hasn't been afforded that runway. Instead, Friday will see one of the most anticipated films of 2025 fly into theaters: James Gunn's Superman. The two titans will be competing to attract the same audience, so how the arrival of one impacts the other will be a major storyline for next Sunday's box office column.

F1 Has A Modest Second Week Drop, Crosses $100 Million Domestically; M3GAN 2.0 Is Fading Fast

Speaking of reflecting on the previous week, the big wide releases from the final weekend of June 2025 had very different responses to the flipping of the calendar and the arrival of a big IP-driven blockbuster. For Joseph Kosinski's F1, the Independence Day holiday wasn't a total nightmare. For Gerard Johnstone's M3GAN 2.0, however, things are going from bad to worse.

Nobody expected F1, even with the star power of Brad Pitt, to stay in the number one spot for two weekends in a row, but what is notable is that the sports movie only saw its ticket sales drop 54 percent weekend-to-weekend. That's not great, but it's also not disasterous. The film made $26.1 million in the last three days domestically, which means that it has become the latest title in 2025 to join the nine-figure club (it's the tenth film to achieve that feat).

It continues to do much better overseas, where it has made nearly twice as much money. Outside the United States and Canada, the film has brought in $184.1 million, bringing its global haul to date to $293.6 million.

M3GAN 2.0 is unfortunately tanking. The genre-pivoting sequel seriously underperformed in its opening weekend, surprisingly spurring Blumhouse head Jason Blum to comment, and the situation has gone from bad to worse. After opening in fourth place last weekend, the title has slipped to a tie for sixth place with Dean Fleischer Camp's Lilo & Stitch (which is now in its seventh weekend of release). The movie saw its ticket sales drop a rough 63 percent weekend-to-weekend, and the addition of $3.8 million brings its weak domestic gross to date to $18.6 million.

How to Train Your Dragon Has Officially Made $500 Million Worldwide

To end this box office column on a more positive note, one of the year's biggest movies has crossed a major milestone. Continuing to hold on to third place in the domestic Top 10 as it comes up on the end of its first full month in theaters, Dean DeBlois' live-action remake of How To Train Your Dragon has now made over $500 million in theaters worldwide ($516.9 million to be exact). It's the fifth highest grossing movie of the year, and it's about $60 million away from leapfrogging Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning in the ranking (though, of course, the Tom Cruise film is also still playing).

How will the whole landscape be impacted with the arrival of Superman at the end of the week? That's a big question that we won't have a true answer to until one week from now – but that's why you should head back here to CinemaBlend next Sunday for our latest box office report.

Jurassic Park is one of the best sci-fi movies ever, and I'm part of the generation that was raised on the franchise. I've kept up with all the movies (which are streaming with a Peacock subscription), and went to see Gareth Edwards' Rebirth on opening night. I enjoyed the new Jurassic World movie, but as a hardcore Scream fan I couldn't help but notice scene felt a lot like Scream VI's Ghostface scene in the bodega. Hear me out.

In the third act of Jurassic World Rebirth, the surviving human heroes are at a gas station, where they're suddenly attacked by mutadons. And as the characters crawl around the aisles and try to distract the new creature, it really felt like an almost beat-for-beat recreation of one particularly terrifying sequence from Scream VI (streaming with a Paramount+ subscription). I mean, am I crazy for seeing the similarities? In the new sequence, which is included in the Jurassic World Rebirth trailers, the heroes are also silently trying to avoid a killer while in a small stores. They'e both got to crawl and try not to make noises, and throw a small can in order to distract the mutadon/Ghostface. They both also feature shots of characters behind a shelf as their stalker is shown directly above them.

To be honest, both Scream VI and Rebirth crushed and crafted thrilling scenes. So I have to give the cast and crew their props. But because I'm a horror nerd who thinks Scream is the best horror movie ever, I found myself looking to my partner/ fellow moviegoers to see if anyone else was seeing these similarities.

I'm not saying that the folks behind Rebirth purposefully ripped off, Scream VI. In fact, I could tell that the gas station scene was a modern take on Jurassic Park's iconic kitchen sequence. But there were just so many similar shots that I was a bit distracted watching that particular part of Edwards' new sci-fi blockbuster.

It's a good time to be a horror fan, and both Scream VI and Jurassic World Rebirth pack a ton of scares throughout their runtimes. While we already know that Scream 7 is on the way, it should be interesting to see if the new Jurassic movie ends up kickstarting a brand new series of movies. Fans weren't thrilled with how the last trilogy ended with Dominion, and it's focus on bugs rather than actual Dinosuars. So Rebirth might begin a new trilogy... if it performs well at the box office and folks go to the theaters over the holiday weekend.

Jurassic World Rebirth is in theaters now as part of the 2025 movie release list. I'm personally hoping for movies, for Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson's chemistry alone.

Well, really Jurassic World Rebirth, but you get the point. I recall when the new movie was announced not long ago, and I genuinely didn’t know how they were going to do more of these films, considering it feels as if every kind of Jurassic Park movie has already been done. But here we are, Jurassic World Rebirth is out, and it’s…good.

I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere near the classic that Steven Spielberg made, but honestly, I think I actually enjoyed this film more than I did the first Jurassic World, and certainly more than the two subsequent sequels. I think in terms of standouts on the 2025 movie schedule, this one surprised me in the best way.

However, even though I am an emotional person, there was one moment in the movie that really resonated with me, as someone who was not expecting much from this film in the first place. And I have to talk about it.

The Whole Movie Itself Was So Much Fun

First off, before I delve into the exact moment, I must acknowledge that Rebirth is truly a gloriously fun experience.

Is it the best movie? No, as I said in my introduction. But what it does do well is take you on a high-stakes adventure that feels a heck of a lot scarier than any other Jurassic World movie.

Obviously, this isn’t the first time that we’ve seen characters explore areas where the dinosaurs have taken over or whatever the case may be. However, I think the way they presented this – where they needed to be calm and careful in order to extract samples from these dinosaurs without being eaten alive – added a level of stakes that made me fully invested.

Many moments had me on the edge of my seat, which is nearly an impossible task for me these days. I’m the kind of person who spends her free time watching the best horror movies, so I’m so desensitized to so much. This film, however, had me clutching my pearls and biting my fingers.

Even so, despite the movie being fun, there was something that really stood out to me and caused the waterworks to start up.

However, That Moment With The Titanosaurus Dinosaurs Made Me Sob

I mean, it’s not the first time that something like this has happened in a Jurassic movie, where we take a break in the chaos for something calmer. I think it was just the way that it was delivered that got to me.

It’s the second species that they have to obtain data from. They’ve already lost a couple of people on their team because of this mission. They have been struggling to survive in this jungle and finally stumble upon a herd of Titanosaurus, and it’s just this moment where the whole team is staring up in awe.

They began coming out more and more, just purely living in their habitat, and I’m not sure how, but that moment had me bawling in my theater seat. However, when I began to analyze the reasons more closely, I realized there were actually two reasons.

It Was Like The Perfect Representation Of Love Across Species

This is the one that stands out the most. I’m the kind of girl who loves the best rom-coms, who could eat up a cute little romance book. Who just genuinely vibes well with stories that involve love.

Translating that to something as pure as love shown in another species is one that hits me hard. I think that some of us humans find it hard to comprehend that other animals can feel love and companionship with each other because, to us, they don’t possess the same emotional capacity as humans.

It’s normal to think that way. They can feel things, but I don’t think they comprehend it as well as we do.

Then this scene happened, and it was like a slap in the face to those ideas in my brain. This might not be how it went down in the prehistoric era of the world, but still, there was something beautiful about watching two dinosaurs wrap around each other, showing how much they loved each other, and the herd mentality of how they traveled in pairs and were all together in this large, open field.

It’s the perfect example of how love really is the one force on the planet that transcends everything, even species. Even in a movie, that kind of message still hit hard, despite this being a work of pure fiction. Kind of happy this didn’t end up going the route of a strange NSFW dino scene.

The Fact That Everyone In The Group Felt It And Just Stopped And Stared Had Me Smiling

The other reason that had me smiling (and crying) was how the characters were really just like me. While I’m sitting there with my kid-wonder looking at these dinosaurs, the rest of them are as well, so much so that it’s almost like they forget what mission they're on.

Of course, Jonathan Bailey’s character, Dr. Henry Loomis, is a paleontologist, so his walking up to pet the dinosaur and nearly breaking down in tears had me smiling from ear to ear. But I think what hit harder was Zora’s moment.

She’s there for one reason – to make money. Sure, she cares deeply about her team. We can see that from the very beginning. But at the end of the day, they are all there to make money so they don’t have to work another day in their lives after this. She has one job – get the sample.

Even so, she can’t stop herself from staring at the beauty of the dinosaurs. She holds the sniper and just stares in shock, her eyes widened at its beauty, before she inevitably gets the sample they need, because they’re gentle giants.

That moment, where even the agent needs to take a second to stare at beauty, is the kind of stuff that hits powerfully. Because yes, I would be the same way.

I Hope Future Jurassic World Movies Lean More In That Direction

I’m not sure if another Jurassic World movie is in the works. The ending of Rebirth seriously felt like it was a literal “ride off into the sunset to a better tomorrow” kind of movie, where a sequel really isn’t needed.

Hollywood is going to Hollywood, and I’m sure another sequel is likely. So, if that is the case, I really hope future Jurassic movies take a glance at this and incorporate more emotional moments. While it’s fun to watch dinosaurs chase people, it’s instances like this one that really stick with viewers and make them look back fondly on the movie. For that, I am so grateful.

There are still so many other great movies coming out this year, but for now, I think I’m going to be going back into my dinosaur era—time for a Jurassic Park marathon.

Jurassic World Rebirth – the latest installment in the Jurassic Universe – is finally here, and the film introduces audiences to a cast of new characters. As you’d expect, these new protagonists find themselves in some precarious situations involving dinosaurs. There’s actually one situation at the end of the film that seemingly marks the demise of one character. However, in a wild twist of fate, that development gets wrapped up on a positive note. Mahershala Ali has since spoken to CinemaBlend about what he thinks happened.

Near the very end of Rebirth, mercenaries Zora Bennett and Duncan Kincaid along with Dr. Henry Loomis and the Delgado family make one final effort to escape the island of Ile Saint-Hubert. They’re able to find a boat but are intercepted by the monstrous D. Rex, which Duncan lures away with a flare. Duncan’s actions eventually bring him face to face with the massive creature, which looks like it’s about to attack him. However, as Zora and co. prepare to sail away, they see a flare and meet up with Duncan, who swims towards them.

Honestly, I don’t know about anyone else, but I definitely thought Duncan was done for before that reveal. That upbeat ending came up while CinemaBlend’s Hannah Saulic spoke to Mahershala Ali and his cast members, Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey. While Bailey and Johansson joked about how Ali’s character survived his encounter with the D. Rex, the Oscar winner himself tried to provide a more practical theory:

That could’ve been the case, and it does make a lot more sense than Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey’s humorous assertion that the Duncan who swims back to the group is actually a “clone.” Believe it or not, Mahershala Ali himself also thought Duncan died, as he revealed during the interview. Apparently, Ali didn’t discuss the specifics of that with director Gareth Edwards either. I’m not sure if we’ll ever receive a concrete answer there, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t happy to see that Duncan survived.

Duncan Kincaid’s characterization does represent one of the best elements of the original Jurassic Park, which writer David Koepp compared to Rebirth in some respects. As much as the movie delivers on dinosaurs and spectacle, it also puts focus on human connections. Duncan is a man who’s lost a child, and it’s for that reason he’s willing to put himself in harm’s way to protect the group, especially the Delgado kids.

At this point, it’s hard to say if Mahershala Ali will reprise his role in another installment of the Steven Spielberg-produced. However, at the very least, the creative team has the option to do so, given his survival and, given the ending of Rebirth, the future of the Jurassic franchise is wide open.

Generally speaking, I like the ongoing legacyquel strategy that Hollywood has developed as a means of continuing/developing franchises. It’s certainly an improvement over the industry doing both remakes and reboots, and I won’t lie and say that I don’t appreciate the hit of nostalgia that comes with seeing actors coming back to reprise a part they haven’t played in 30 years. There is also a creative challenge that comes with filmmakers having to tell a story set within an existing continuity to which they have to be faithful. It can be interesting to see how established elements are forced to evolve when matched with modern sensibilities, technology, and more.

Starting in 2015, this strategy was certainly successful for the Jurassic Park franchise. The overall quality of the movies in the Jurassic World trilogy – Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Jurassic World Dominion – is a mixed bag, but all of the hallmarks are present. There are new protagonists to follow, but heavy ties to the original remain, with the idea of a dinosaur theme park reexamined with a 21^st century perspective and characters from the canon returning after being away for decades (BD Wong's Dr. Henry Wu is in all three blockbusters and is joined by Laura Dern’s Dr. Ellie Sattler, Jeff Goldblum’s Dr. Ian Malcolm, and Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant in Dominion). It’s textbook legacyquel stuff.

Now, Jurassic World: Rebirth has arrived, and it’s notably a horse of a different color. It’s not a reboot, as nothing about the continuity from the previous six movies has been specifically altered or ignored, but it is an entirely new story. The protagonists and antagonists are all fresh faces (there aren’t even cameos or surprise appearances from classic characters), and nobody is of a mind to try and create another dino-centric park. Instead, it’s simply a blockbuster adventure story that happens to be set in a world where dinosaurs exist.

To be frank, it’s not a film that I particularly enjoyed, as my opinion mostly lines up with the thoughts in CinemaBlend’s two-star Jurassic World: Rebirth review – but I’m nonetheless excited for what it could mean for the future of the franchise, as the creative opportunities are seemingly endless. Akin to Star Wars having now moved beyond the vaunted Skywalker Saga, there theoretically now exists potential for filmmakers to explore any kind of original story they want involving the resurrected creatures of prehistory and craft a wide variety of narratives with wildly different genres and characters. There is nothing that has to be specifically “continued;” the world is open for weird and wild exploration.

Funny enough, the best way to explain this might be to break down the stories featured in Jurassic World: Rebirth. My biggest issue with the film is that it tries to juggle two narratives that simply never coalesce properly: a team of mercenaries is on the hunt for blood/tissue samples from dinosaurs that can theoretically advance medical science, and a family on a boating trip finds themselves capsized in dino-filled waters. These two adventures clash in a way that ultimately hurts the movie, and in this new era of the Jurassic Park franchise, it didn’t need to be this way. Instead, these stories could have each been their own blockbuster with independent tones and stakes, and they could have helped evolve what audiences expect from a title in this popular series. It’s a mistake to learn from going forward.

Needless to say, it will be very interesting to see where the movies go from here (another project has not yet been announced as being in development). As much as I like both Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, I will be very disappointed if it’s reported that the next installment sees their characters return, as it would be a sign of a major opportunity being ignored. In the aftermath of Jurassic World Rebirth, there is tremendous potential for creative franchise-building, and I hope that the filmmakers and executives guiding the canon recognize and capitalize.

It remains to be seen where fans put Rebirth when ranking the Jurassic movies, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Around halfway through the movie, the group of heroes see a group of Titanosaurus who are coupled up. It's a sweet sequence, but it could have been much more steamy. In a conversation with IndieWire, writer David Koepp spoke about the challenge of bringing this scene together, in his words:

Not Jurassic PORK! I'm scared to google this term, as I have to assume there's a porn parody somewhere on the internet. And it sounds like we could have seen the Titanosaurus getting busy in the original draft of this new sequel.

While CinemaBlend's Jurassic World Rebirth review wasn't overwhelmingly positive, perhaps audiences will be more kind. Later in the same interview, Koepp shared more about just how graphic the OG script was for this sequence, saying:

Well... that would have been a very different movie. While we've seen lots of murderous dinosaurs and a giant pile of dung in the Jurassic franchise, seeing two Dinos mating has never been part of the story. After all, they were originally designed to be unable to reproduce on their own.

Since Rebirth's original cut was less than two hours long, a number of scenes likely ended up on the cutting room floor. That includes seeing two giant dinosaurs knocking boots for the first time. David Koepp reflected on turning in that sequence, saying:

There are likely some audience members who would have laughed at seeing the Titanosaurus procreate. The Jurassic franchise is known for pivoting between horror and comedy, but usually it doesn't work blue. In the end, these jokes were cut from Rebirth, but maybe we'll get more adult content if/when the property continues with another big-screen adventure.

If Rebirth does well in theaters, I have to assume that Universal Pictures will want to continue the story with a sequel. The cast is certainly winning, especially the internet's boyfriend, Jonathan Bailey, and the great Scarlett Johansson.

Mystery screenings around the country were hosted by major theater chains, including AMC Theaters, where patrons didn’t know which movie they were seeing until showtime. While fans were signing up for any experience, they got the screening of a lifetime when they got to check out the new summer blockbuster before everyone else and, based on the reactions, the hype was real following the screening.

When it comes to AMC Theaters, the theater chain holds what's called "Screen Unseen" showing featuring mystery movies. So Rebirth marked a big surprise for lucky theater-goers. Full reviews are embargoed until closer to the release date, but fans shared some initial thoughts on social media. One particular fan went in depth when discussing how they view the film's position in the Jurassic Park universe when sharing their thoughts on X:

For years, I (and maybe other Jurassic World fans) have wondered why the Jurassic Universe never fully embraced the mayhem of dinosaurs tearing through big cities. Sure, we’ve seen brief glimpses of raptors in suburban kitchens or T. Rexes eyeing helicopters over San Francisco. But, for the most part, the series has kept its chaos in jungles, islands, and remote facilities. Now, ahead of the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth, we finally know why, and it has to do with the man who birthed the franchise, Michael Crichton.

Colin Trevorrow -- who wrote all three of the Jurassic World films and directed two of them -- spoke with the The Hollywood Reporter. On the whole, Trevorrow spearheaded that trilogy's direction. During this latest chat, he shared that his restrained approach to urban dinosaur action wasn’t due to budget or scale. It was a creative decision grounded in Crichton’s original vision for the series. According to the filmmaker:

That internal logic of treating dinosaurs more like unpredictable, instinctual creatures than movie monsters informed how far the director of The Book of Henry was willing to push the premise. While he and his team explored ways for dinosaurs to interact with human civilization, including in Jurassic World Dominion and the animated series Chaos Theory (available with a Netflix subscription), there was always a limit. And that limit was grounded in tone. Trevorrow added:

That distinction, between controlled narrative spectacle and full-on monster mayhem, helps explain why even in Dominion, a film where dinosaurs are loose across the globe, the story remains tethered to rural settings and isolated locations. It’s a nod to Crichton’s science-meets-ethics worldbuilding, where the core tension lies in man's attempt to control nature, not just survive its rampage.

The upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth reportedly returns to a more familiar island setting, continuing the franchise’s preference for contained environments over full-blown city destruction. It also reportedly incorporates scenes and concepts from Crichton’s original Jurassic Park novel that were cut from earlier films, including the long-awaited raft sequence.

Still, Trevorrow is clearly proud of the groundwork he and his collaborators laid for the future of the franchise, across films, series, merchandise, and theme parks. The director shared:

As the Jurassic franchise continues to evolve, don’t expect a full pivot into kaiju territory anytime soon. According to Colin Trevorrow, the franchise’s greatest strength is its ability to stay grounded, even when the subject matter is 40 feet tall and covered in teeth.

Universal Orlando’s Jurassic Park and World experiences have long been a highlight of visiting the parks, but lately with the opening of Epic Universe the Florida park has dragons too! Not to be outclassed, ahead of the new release Jurassic World: Rebirth, the Hollywood version of the theme park has added a new dino experience, and she is so stinking adorable. You don’t even have to trust me, the Internet is freaking out, too.

It’s Mega Movie Summer in Hollywood, and the park is looking ahead to releases on the upcoming 2025 movie schedule. That includes Jurassic World: Rebirth, the brand new movie in the long-running franchise spearheaded by Gareth Edwards and starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey and more. What that means for theme park lovers is some new experiences, including the introduction of Dolores, and people cannot get enough.

The realistic puppets and animatronics at Universal Orlando are one way the world class theme park has set itself apart, and this isn’t the first time a cool new Jurassic World dino has been introduced. They are so real-looking they’ve even fooled some fans of the theme parks, or at least their moms, as parkgoers noted the realistic nature of the new character.

Obviously, right now, this is only a fixture at the Hollywood edition of the Universal parks, so if you are like me and closer to the Florida version, this may not be feasible to check out right away. I do hope if Dolores retains her popularity – as many are hedging she might – we may see more from her in more Universal parks in the future. But she will also pop up on the big screen soon in Rebirth, which will hit theaters in just a few weeks on July 2nd, and I expect to have a roaring good time.

Now, Bailey is providing a reasonable explanation for his physical transformation for the 2025 movie release.

While you’ll see both Bryce Dallas Howard and Jurassic World Rebirth mentioned quite a bit on the 2025 movie schedule, the star of the previous trilogy will not be running with the dinosaurs. However, she will be braving the criminal element with the powers of improv in the new comedy Deep Cover.

That new project, co-written by previous Jurassic mastermind Colin Trevorrow, was a convenient moment for Howard to expose a “secret” held by her former co-star/A-list beefcake Chris Pratt. While speaking with The Times for her new Prime Video subscription exclusive comedy, the Jurassic World co-lead shared her love for how comedians are “constantly putting themselves out there.”

Jonathan Bailey’s work has garnered a lot of attention as of late. In the past two years, he’s been in more projects than I can count on one hand, skipping around between the dramatic acting in Fellow Travelers, to the Regency Era series Bridgerton, to the wondrous, musical world of Wicked. Shockingly, the director of his upcoming release, Jurassic World Rebirth, was still unaware of Bailey’s acting chops before casting him. Thankfully, his girlfriend quickly (and bluntly) educated him on the British actor’s impressive repertoire.

I’ll admit, I definitely was a bit skeptical when I heard about a fourth Jurassic World film hitting the 2025 movie schedule. However, director Gareth Edwards previously said he plans on getting back to the OG movie’s roots, which is exciting. And, upon seeing the stacked cast via of Rebirth's harrowing teaser trailer, I think many people will be making a trip to the theater in July. I also feel as though some fans would've had a similar reaction to the Bridgerton star’s casting as Edwards’ girlfriend, which the filmmaker shared with GQ:

Certainly that look in his eye, paired with swoon worthy charm, has been partially responsible for the 37-year-old actor landing roles that have cemented his Hollywood heartthrob status. So, just in case you're just like Gareth Edwards, let me take this time to clue you in on Jonathan Bailey.

Bailey has acted in a number of notable British shows such as Broadchurch and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Crashing. However, it was really his role as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton in the Shonda Rhimes-produced Netflix drama that really showcased his skills as a leading man. Season 2, which focused on Anthony’s forbidden enemies-to-lovers storyline with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), is by far the best season, in my eyes. (I will die on that hill, mostly because of Bailey and Ashley’s intoxicating chemistry.)

Given Bailey's work in Wicked and Fellow Travelers, it’s clear this can play a perfect love interest, and I think he probably could have decent chemistry with a tree. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s extremely attractive, especially in those adorable glasses seen in Jurassic World Rebirth.

The project-hopping Jonathan Bailey plays the role of paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis in Rebirth. Loomis, along with covert operatives, embark on a mission to a dinosaur-filled island in order to locate multiple species that could serve as the key to producing a much-needed drug. As you'd expect though, the mission doesn't go as planned, and Loomis and co. find themselves in serious danger.

Considering how he's hyped up Jurassic World Rebirth's similarities to Steven Spielberg's original 1993 flick, Bailey seems excited for the legacy sequel. I'm confident that he'll be both wit and humanity to the role of Dr. Loomis. While Bailey's more than supplanted himself as a heartthrob, this latest film may help him solidify his status as an action hero. Fans can see his work when this latest Jurassic movie opens in theaters on July 2. I know I'll need to be seated in the theater to check this one out.

Now that Scarlett Johansson is getting her wish to join the beloved dino-centric franchise, I hope that she'll be able to get some of the group together for a screening. Now this one is great. Director Jon Favreau seems to have snuck a great reference to a classic Saturday Night Live episode into his live-action version of The Jungle Book in 2016. When Mowgli visits King Louie, he bangs on a cowbell to summon the king. King Louie, of course, is voiced by Christopher Walken, who starred in the famous "more cowbell" skit on SNL.

One of the coolest things about the Hulk-centered movies in the MCU is that Lou Ferrigno gets his due. He famously played the superhero in the 1980s, of course. Getting his due in the modern movies is a fantastic tribute.

Many years before they would meet in Predator V. Alien, it was established that the two franchises existed in the same universe. In Predator 2, there is a very clear Xenomorph skull on the wall in a trophy room of the team of hunters.

This one is wild. In I Am Legend, there is a billboard in a post-apocalyptic Times Square advertising a "Batman vs. Superman" movie. Legend came out in 2007, a full nine years before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice came out. Of course, the idea of a team-up between the two giant DC comic characters goes way back, but still, it's almost like I Am Legend predicted the future in a movie set in the future.

License Plate THX-138 In American Graffiti

George Lucas' breakout movie was American Graffiti, and he found a way to work the name of his first movie, THX-138, into the movie set in the fifties. It appears on a license plate in the movie. Lucas has snuck it into most of his movies since, as well.

The Millennium Falcon In Spaceballs

Spaceballs is one of Mel Brooks's best movies. It's a parody of Star Wars, and Brooks manages to pay direct tribute to the epic space opera by sneaking in The Millennium Falcon at the end of the movie. As the main characters pull into the space truck stop, they park their RV right next to it. Sadly, Han and Chewie aren't seen inside the diner.

OB-3PO In Raiders Of The Lost Ark

This is one of our favorites. Lots of people are aware that Steven Spielberg snuck R2-D2 and C-3PO into the hieroglyphics in Raiders of the Lost Ark, but did you know that wasn't the only tribute? The tail number of the plane at the beginning of the movie (the one with the snake in the seat) is "OB-3PO," referencing Obi-Wan and C-3PO.

Douglas Adams' Face In The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

Towards the very end of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, the filmmakers pay quick tribute the Douglas Adams, the author of the beloved "trilogy" the movie is based on. The face of the late writer is seen very briefly as the ship swings around to head to the restaurant at the end of the universe.

One of those, if you look closely towards the bottom, just left of center, is none other than Hank Hill. Judge, of course, is also the creator of King Of The Hill.

Callahan Institute in 50 First Dates

Callahan Auto, of course, is the name of the auto parts company Akyroyd's character tries to buy from Tommy Callahan (Chris Farley) in Tommy Boy.

Easter Eggs In The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Did you know that there are literal Easter Eggs in a few scenes in The Rocky Horror Picture Show? The lore surrounding the eggs is that the cast had their own Easter Egg hunt and they either left some on purpose, or failed to find a few, but there are at least three that can be seen in the "Time Warp" scene, including on top of the statue to the right of Frank's throne.

The Race In Ready Player One

I know some of you out there are still reeling from what Lumon Industries has provided on the 2025 TV schedule. As Severance’s emotional Season 2 finale blew fans' minds, the road ahead is as mysterious as the tricky corridors that make up the hellish enigma our beloved employees are investigating Part of those efforts involve knowing where you’re going, which is exactly the point of actor Dichen Lachman’s sweet story about how Jurassic World Dominion led to an adorable gesture of assistance.

During our recent conversation about Ms. Lachman’s return for Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 3, we actually took a sharp left turn into the realm of this Apple TV+ subscription hit. What started as a story about Dichen Lachman’s challenges with dinosaur names led to her sharing with CinemaBlend an anecdote about how Season 1's hallway scenes were made easier by this industrious Assistant Director:

After reading this story again, I’m kind of jealous of Dichen Lachman, and not because she’s a Jurassic Universe star who gets to command Atrociraptors. For as many things as I forget to do in everyday life, if someone drew dinosaurs on the instructions/to-do lists I have to tackle, it’d make things a lot easier.

Though thankfully it doesn’t sound like the insightful Severance actor didn’t have to tackle anything as massive as what’s happened in Season 2. And at a high enough speed, who can really tell the difference between a Velociraptor and a Baryonyx? Although now that we’re talking about it, I wonder if the unique conditions of time and space in the Lumon building could help a human outrun a T-Rex?

If you ever have the chance to talk to Dichen Lachman, I heartily suggest you take it. Not only does she have some deep theories that open up the puzzle box that is Severance, you never know what Jurassic-themed story she’ll share with you next. Which, as a massive fan of Michael Crichton and Steven Spielberg’s mythic creation, is something I highly value in a conversation partner.

Fans of Ms. Lachman can, of course, break their hearts all over again by revisiting Severance on Apple TV+. Or, if you haven’t caught up on Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, you can watch all three seasons using a Netflix subscription, with Soyona “The Broker” Santos coming into the picture from Season 2 onward. Running shoes are not required, despite what some may say.

Life has found a way to keep dinosaur fans happy on the 2025 TV schedule, thanks to Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 3! A new round of adventures has brought the Camp Fam from Camp Cretaceous even deeper into the web of intrigue connecting to Jurassic World Dominion.

The return of Dichen Lachman’s Soyona “The Broker” Santos continues to blur that line, reintroducing us all to a world where Atrociraptors still roam the earth. As we chatted about her character's Jurassic Park Universe with commanding Atrociraptors, Ms. Lachman told CinemaBlend about this very real challenge with these prehistoric beasts:

While I think I’d have fun saying names like “Atrociraptor” or “Ankylosaurus” on a recurring basis, I can still identify with Dichen Lachman’s Jurassic World: Chaos Theory woe. Even thinking of trying to pronounce “Baryonyx” or “Compsognathus” is a hypothetical weakness, so I don’t envy anyone who has this concern.

So when this Severance star laid out an opportunity that was both a welcomed return, and an unfortunate verbal exercise on Season 3 of this Netflix subscription booster, I could totally see her point. Though I have to say, after discussing this very real problem, I think we should all take a moment and appreciate the various hybrids made by Dr. Wu and his lab assistants never had names as complicated as those of academia.

While Chaos Theory understands Jurassic Park’s legacy as a beloved science fiction classic, it does allow for a bit of a breather from the Latin-intensive names that go beyond entry level difficulty. After all, they can't all have names that end in "Rex."

However, as Dichen Lachman continued to discuss why she’s particularly concerned with the matter, I was even more impressed with her Chaos Theory performance. Continuing to discuss the issue that prehistoric creatures and their names present in a recording booth, Lachman opened up to CinemaBlend with this further insight:

Admitting that “Google can only take you so far” is a lot for anyone in a career path that requires you to be able to say things properly. There have been times where even after asking for how to pronounce the name of the talent I’m interviewing I might still trip over the pronunciation.

So why would an actor willingly put themselves through the aural equivalent of wrangling an ornery Allosaurus? That question can be answered by referencing another identifiable aspect of this Jurassic World experience, shared by Dichen Lachman as follows:

As Jurassic World Rebirth brings us further into the future, and we know that Dichen Lachman’s Broker survives Dominion and Chaos Theory’s events, there’s always room for her to pop up again in the future. And as she mentioned in another portion of our interview, that’s a rumor she’d love to get started sooner rather than later.

Alas, we don’t know if Soyona Santos will be mentioned on Rebirth’s July 2nd opening weekend. However, you can watch her do what she does best in Seasons 2 and 3 of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory - both of which are currently streaming on Netflix. Of course, it is not until the stunning climax of 1980's The Empire Strikes Back that we discover Darth Vader (voiced by James Earl Jones) is the father of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who is then tempted by the Sith Lord to come to the Dark Side and rule with him.

The Story Of One Man's Catastrophic Inner Conflict (Fight Club)

SPOILER WARNING: In one of the best movie plot twists ever, 1999's Fight Club reveals that the chaotic Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) is a dissociative identity of Edward Norton's "Narrator." Perhaps my favorite tweet from Explain A Movie Plot Badly offers the funniest way to describe 2020's Wonder Woman 1984 that I think anybody could imagine. The plot of the mind-bending high school movie Donnie Darko (a personal favorite of a friend of mine who helped come up with this bit) is set in motion when the titular teen (Jake Gyllenhaal) narrowly escapes a tragic death when he follows the voice of a possibly hallucinatory man named Frank (James Duval). I am not sure where writer and director Richard Kelly got the idea to dress Frank in the most disturbing rabbit costume imaginable, but I also believe it is essential to the 2001 thriller's legacy as an enduring cult favorite.

A Woman's Motel Room Shower Is To Die For (Psycho)

I cannot imagine there exists a motel with a bathroom shower this impressive. But, do you know what is impressive? The shocking, iconic scene from Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 masterpiece in which Marion Crane (Scream Queen Janet Leigh) is murdered by who we assume is the mother of Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) while taking a shower at the Bates Motel.

One of the darkest posts on X by Explain A Movie Plot Badly references the 1993 thriller, Alive, which is based on the harrowing true story of a Uruguayan rugby team forced to do the unthinkable when their plane crashes in the middle of the Andes Mountains.

The last five years have seemingly been one incredible battle after another for the movie industry. Frist we had a global pandemic that led to unprecendented theater closures and movie delays, and just as it looked like that was finally in the past, a massive strike among both writers and actors caused more problems and delays. Hollywood, it appears has been just trying to “survive to ‘25” but will even that be enough?

The phrase “survive to ‘25” has become something of a mantra in Hollywood according to Variety, as studios try to rebuild the floundering theatrical business that has never fully returned to pre-pandemic levels. However. There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic, as this year alone will include many big names that could all become massive hits, including Superman, Avatar: Fire and Ash, a new Jurassic World and more.

2025 Has The Potential To Be A Massive Year At The Box Office

2019 was the biggest year the global box office had ever seen thanks to no less than nine films crossing the billion-dollar mark, including two major franchises culminating in Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Certainly with the global pandemic starting in early 2020, matching that success became impossible, but maybe 2025 could do it?

Certainly, the 2025 movie schedule looks pretty incredible on paper. A new Avatar movie, a new Jurassic World, and three Marvel movies would look like the biggest blockbuster slate in the world just a few years ago.

There are also other seemingly sure things, like Wicked: For Good, which is all but certain to follow its predecessor’s success. The first Zootopia was also a billion-dollar box office win, and the sequel is likely to do very well, even if it doesn’t quite match the original.

2025 Has Some Big Movie Question Marks As Well

However, not every film coming out in 2025 is quite as sure a thing. The last Mission: Impossible movie, Dead Reckoning disappointed at the box office, even though the movie in the series before that one was the highest-grossing of the franchise. Will Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning also put up middling numbers, or will the fact that this could be the final movie for Tom Cruise cause the audience to turn out?

There’s also James Gunn’s Superman movie hitting in July. While there will surely be enough interest in this one for a strong opening weekend, for the film to be a real smash it needs to bring a broader audience and that audience hasn’t been there for the last few DC superhero movies. Superman is the launch of a new era for DC films, but it’s unclear if the wider cinema audience cares.

If everything coming out this year hits as big as it can, then 2025 could truly be one for the record books, and if that happens, it could be good news for the theatrical movie industry on a wider scale.

Doesn’t it feel good to see new commercials and trailers at the Super Bowl? The 2025 movie schedule certainly feels a little more real now, as we’re adding to what we know about Jurassic World Rebirth and other big blockbusters. But what’s even more exciting is that not only do we have a confirmed list of the dinosaurs we’ve seen in the trailer, there’s one specimen that evades classification. And, just as prior JW movies have been about hybrids, it looks like the future comes down to one word: mutation.

Jurassic World Rebirth Is Bringing Back Dino Favorites Old And New

Like any good blockbuster, it’s the toys that have helped show us what’s in store for Scarlett Johansson and company’s trip to Isla Sorna. At least, that’s where I think they’re going, according to my wild Jurassic World Rebirth theory. What I don’t have to theorize about, thanks in part to information released by toy maker Mattel, are some of the mammoth beasties we stomping around in the upcoming science-fiction film.

Between advanced product listings, and the species fans saw or heard mentioned in the first Rebirth trailer, here’s who we should expect on the guest list:

• Dilophosaurus

For anyone who remembers hoping to see a Dilophosaurus in Dominion and getting that delicious payoff, your patience is about to be rewarded yet again. It’s been a while since we’ve seen what’s been positioned as a foe to the T-Rex. Now, there’s several Spinosaurus seen swimming and helping the Mosasaurus from Jurassic World to hold down the turf.

Life truly has found a way to mash up favorites from both trilogies. But since Rebirth is going to be a showcase of InGen’s “worst of the worst” in the bunch, we need to talk about that mysterious creature that’s lurking in semi-obscured sight.

We Should Definitely Fear Jurassic World Rebirth's Mysterious Mutation

You’ve likely been wondering about it, and I’ve certainly been wondering about it. So let’s talk about the mutated dinosaur that the Jurassic Park Universe is promising us. While we have several fleeting glimpses at what’s in store, we don’t know much about what could be the latest villain to join the ranks of JP’s Raptor pack, as well as the Jurassic World series’ Indominous Rex and Indoraptor.

However, in the Vanity Fair piece that primed the world for Jurassic World Rebirth’s first trailer, there were some enticing clues as to how this entry will differ from its predecessors:

• Frank Marshall, Producer: "These are the dinosaurs that didn’t work. There’s some mutations in there. They’re all based on real dinosaur research, but they look a little different."
• Gareth Edwards, Director: "Some Rancor went in there, some H.R. Giger went in there, a little T. rex went in there…"

Normally, I’d cite one of my favorite SNL jokes here, and tell you to “picture a thousand of these coming at ‘ya at night.” But, considering this unnamed threat mixes Jabba’s deadly pet from Return of the Jedi with a Xenomorph from the Alien movie timeline, and adds a little T. rex on the side, I think I’m fine with just one in existence.

Really, you shouldn’t have InGen. No…you shouldn’t have, especially when as we saw in the trailer for Rebirth, it might take out Mahershala Ali's Duncan. I'm really beginning to like this dude, and I hope he gets Malcolm'd into a sequel or spin-off.

I keep getting amped up about Jurassic World Rebirth because, honestly, I still very much love this series. The latest adventure, set to unfurl in theaters on July 2nd, feels like a dangerous return to both the awe and fear that should be involved with these creatures.

For now, I guess we’ll have to settle for the sweet ambiguity that’ll haunt our dreams until we learn more about this mystery creature. I hope for all of our sakes that when it’s revealed, it’ll stick to the menu options of chicken, beef, or fish. It probably won’t but, hey, it couldn’t hurt to ask.

For the moviegoing public, the Super Bowl is one of the first times new footage from upcoming titles is shown. While the roster of 2025 movies already impresses on paper, getting our first chance to see how excited we should get about the road ahead feels special. With my fandom driven anticipation for Scarlet Johansson’s ensemble blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth firmly in mind, I have to say that it looks like it's going to be thrilling.

What we know about Jurassic World 4 has been pretty scarce up until this point. So of course Universal Pictures’ debut of the first Rebirth teaser trailer has been hotly anticipated. As promised in this week’s earlier footage tease featuring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey’s new characters, DNA of franchise past is going to be important to this sci-fi thriller set to debut on July 2nd. In fact there were some strong Lost World vibes as we saw the pair in some long grass with some large dinosaurs that had Velociraptor reminiscent tails, while trying to survive on an abandoned island full of dinosaurs.

As a fan of the Jurassic Park Universe, this heightens my excitement for the return of legacy screenwriter David Koepp. With the scribe behind the stories for Steven Spielberg’s iconic 1993 and its 1997 sequel promising no canon clashes, Jurassic World Rebirth will keep moving forward with the story in play. Indeed, there are references to the original trilogy, as well as connections to the Jurassic World movies, as it's set five years after the events of Dominion.

Now that we’ve got the business end taken care of, let’s talk about what we’re all here to discuss. So far, there’s only been a vague promise of actual dinosaurs on this dinosaur tour, with none of Rebirth’s prehistoric denizens fully on display. We see a number of dinos throughout this first footage, usually trying to kill or gravely injure the human characters. We see giant Mosasaurus in the water, a number of raptors, as well as pterodactyls. With the team of humans looking to extract DNA from a number of dinosaurs on their expedition, it sounds like there's going to be a constant threat of danger.

It really looks like the next Jurassic movie is going back to basics, especially after Dominion focused more on bugs then dinosaurs (see our review here). And with talent like ScarJo and Wicked dreamboat Jonathan Bailey at the center of the story, smart money says plenty of fans will be heading to theaters when the next blockbuster is release this coming summer Jurassic World Rebirth will find its way into our lives, and theaters, on July 2nd, 2025. We'll just have to wait and see if more connections to the previous two trilogies are revealed as we get close to the movie's release.

With the 2025 movie schedule packed with massive releases, one title stands out for me: the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth. And, though the Jurassic Park franchise Universe has long been a towering giant in cinema, let’s face it: while Steven Spielberg’s original remains an untouchable masterpiece and one of the best movies of the '90s, later installments leaned heavily on over-the-top CGI spectacles. Now, director Gareth Edwards is determined to fix that and, as a longtime fan, I’m thrilled about his approach.

It was during an interview with Entertainment Weekly that Gareth Edwards shed light on what’s been "lost" from the franchise and how Rebirth will seek to bring it back closer to Mr. Spielberg’s vision. The Rogue One filmmaker told the outlet:

For the British moviemaker, Jurassic World Rebirth is not just another dino adventure—it’s a return to the primal fear and awe that defined Spielberg’s original film. Unlike recent entries that leaned heavily on green screens and action-packed CGI sequences, the Creator director and his team embraced real-world locations and old-school filmmaking techniques to immerse audiences.

Filmed across Southeast Asia and the Mediterranean, the movie’s backdrop is as wild and unpredictable as its prehistoric stars. Gareth Edwards–who dropped everything to direct–even revealed the hazards of shooting in Thailand’s mangrove swamps, where poisonous snakes and spiders were a real part of the production’s day-to-day.

This “back-to-basics” approach extends to the way Jurassic World Rebirth handles its dinosaurs. While recent films focused on ever-larger and more elaborate hybrids, the End Day director aims to recapture the wonder of seeing these creatures in a grounded way. It’s less about sheer size and spectacle and more about creating moments of tension and awe—something JP fans have longed to see again.

As a die-hard fan of the original, I’m thrilled by this direction. Gareth Edwards is known for delivering weighty, awe-inspiring spectacle in films like 2010's Monsters and the 2014 Godzilla reboot, an hed knows how to make his creatures feel real and imposing. That’s exactly the sense of awe the Jurassic Park franchise has been missing, and he might just be the one to bring it back. Let's hope that's the case.

Mark your calendars for July 2, 2025, because that's when Jurassic World Rebirth stomps its way into theaters, and it's one dino adventure I can’t wait to see on the big screen. What we know about the newest entry in the dino-centric franchise so far is enough to get one excited. In terms of what's ahead, the movie’s director, Gareth Edwards, recently weighed in on the future of the franchise. However, what really has me pumped is the fact that Edwards name-dropped an essential blockbuster while describing his upcoming film.

At this point, there's already been considerable hype surrounding Rebirth, and a trailer hasn't even dropped yet. Gareth Edwards dropped everything to helm the flick, which has been compared to Steven Spielberg's OG film. Interestingly, though, while speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Edwards named another Spielberg classic when hyping up his legacy sequel and weighing in on whether it'll launch a new trilogy:

If this 2025 blockbuster pays homage to some of the best Spielberg movies, including Jaws, then this could indeed be something special. The E.T. director has a specific approach to moviemaking that's hard to replicate. However, Gareth Edwards -- who's known for Godzilla, Rogue One and more -- has a keen eye as well. So, hopefully, Rebirth honors what's come before while adding some fresh elements of its own.

It’s also really incredible to hear that fans could be looking at the start of a brand-new Jurassic film trilogy. The 2015-2022 leg of the franchise isn’t bad, but it left a lot on the table for me (and I could never get past the whole high heel controversy). The leaked Rebirth photos of Scarlett Johansson have already revealed my favorite pre-premiere content. When it comes to the new film, it'll see members of a scientific expedition and a family vying for survival on a dinosaur-inhabited island. Joining Johansson in the movie are Jonathan Bennett, Rupert Friend and Mahershala Ali.

The hype of the director and his collaborators is going to have to keep me going until the latest Jurassic World movie arrives next year. Expectations are certainly high in some circles, and the Jaws comparison might amp those up a bit. Nevertheless, I remain confident that we're in for a truly thrilling sequel

Dinosaurs have been gone from the earth for 65 million years but it seems dinosaurs won’t be leaving our movie screens for any significant length of time. The Jurassic Park franchise has given us six movies already and a seventh is already underway. While what we know about Jurassic World: Rebirth is fairly limited at the moment, beyond some teases from director Gareth Edwards, the screenwriter is teasing some things that should have fans of the first movie very excited.

The original Jurassic Park was a groundbreaking movie for its use of CGI effects to create realistic-looking dinosaurs. Every movie since has largely been trying to recapture the magic of the first film, and screenwriter of Rebirth, David Koepp says he was specifically given instructions by producer Steven Spielberg to try and recapture the tone of the original franchise in the new film. He told The Discourse Podcast…

The new film, while it will follow chronologically from the events of the previous trilogy, will be an entirely new story with new characters. It doesn't appear previous actors from the Jurassic World or Jurassic Park movies will appear. A story needs a fresh start.

We know that the plot of Jurassic World: Rebirth will see Scarlett Johansson lead a team to an island in order to obtain material from dinosaurs that may be usable in human medicine. One can see how the tone of the new movie may closely match the original since the story of both sees humans stuck on an island with dangerous dinosaurs.

Certainly, many ways in which the new Jurassic World is like the original Jurassic Park are likely to be a good thing. While all the movies in the newest trilogy were box office behemoths, it’s difficult to argue that any of the sequels have been as good as Steven Spielberg’s original.

All of the Jurassic Park movies have been, at the very least, fun, even if they haven’t all become classic cinema. It’s difficult to imagine how a new film could truly match the groundbreaking original. The first Jurassic Park’s CGI holds up today, in ways that more modern CGI often does not, which unfortunately means that no follow-up can really outdo it in that regard. The best it can accomplish is to be just as good.

If there’s one way the new movie may be able to match, or even exceed the original it’s in the fact that the Jurassic World: Rebirth cast is stacked. From Scarlett Johansson to Mahershala Ali to Jonathan Bailey, whose stock is going up as we speak thanks to Wicked, the new movie won’t be lacking talent. If it can also make us feel like we’re watching the original Jurassic Park for the first time, we could have something special on the way.

The Jurassic World franchise said farewell to Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing, but the star isn’t ready to leave the dino drama behind. With a new chapter of the prehistoric saga -- the upcoming Jurassic World: Rebirth -- on the horizon, the Help actress shared some thoughts about her successor, Scarlett Johansson -- who’s joining the forthcoming seventh entry, helmed by Gareth Edwards. Naturally, Howard had plenty to say about the MCU alum stepping into the spotlight, and even joked about how Johansson could top her work.

When I heard Edwards, the creative force behind Godzilla and The Creator, dropped everything to helm the next Jurassic flick, I couldn’t help but wonder: could he take us back to the tension-filled roots that made Jurassic Park one of the best movies of the 90s? Turns out, that was his goal. In an interview with Empire, the filmmaker revealed his approach to revitalizing the franchise with the recently wrapped Jurassic World 4. He also delved into how the new installment will nod to Steven Spielberg’s original 1993 film:

This is music to my raptor-loving ears. If you’re anything like me, you’ve been yearning for a return to the suspense, discovery, and emotional weight that defined the OG Jurassic Park. Don’t get me wrong—the spectacle of Jurassic World was jaw-dropping, but that creeping sense of dread when the power goes out in the original park? That’s what truly gets the blood pumping.

The upcoming movie is set five years after Jurassic World Dominion's ending. Rebirth picks up in a world where dinosaurs roam free though, due to the ecosystem, many of the giant creatures are dying. Gareth Edwards, working from a script by original JP writer David Koepp, is bringing back some fan-favorite dinos while introducing new faces—human and prehistoric alike. Scarlett Johansson leads the charge (who has been jockeying for a role in the franchise for years) as Zora Bennett, a former military operative on a high-stakes mission to hunt down crucial dino-DNA. Scarlett Johansson’s character already sounds like she’s poised to carry the kind of emotional and narrative weight that the Jurassic Universe legacy characters had. Steven Spielberg’s classic didn’t just serve up jaw-dropping dino spectacle—it introduced a cast of richly developed characters who felt real and grounded in their responses to the madness around them.

That’s what made the mix of humanity and prehistoric chaos so compelling. And let’s be real here: while the Jurassic World trilogy delivered plenty of popcorn-worthy moments, it didn’t quite stick the landing when it came to giving us characters as layered as Dr. Grant, Ellie Sattler or Ian Malcolm. If Rebirth is indeed going back to that storytelling sweet spot, we could be in for a major return to form.

As an OG fan, I couldn’t be more excited for a director with Gareth Edwards’ pedigree to guide the franchise forward. He’s proven he can balance large-scale spectacle with deeply personal stakes. (Rogue One, anyone?)

The promise of more tension-driven set pieces has me hoping we’ll get some edge-of-your-seat sequences that rival the T. rex breakout or the raptors stalking Lex and Tim in the kitchen. As the 2024 TV schedule turns, so does the Jurassic Universe! With the debut of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 2 taking place this week, Netflix will be unleashing another round of genetically engineered mayhem. The adventure-filled 10 episodes will up the stakes within this corner of the franchise, with some new surprises lurking around every corner. And, as Executive Producer Scott Kreamer revealed to CinemaBlend, there was one note that helped push the series along after its impressive first season.

The Important Story Note That Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 2 Was Built Around

Once again, I had the honor of sitting down with Mr. Kreamer via Zoom to celebrate the return of the Nublar Six. Well, they’re actually known as the Nublar Five now, as anyone who’s seen Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 1’s big twist knows that Brooklynn (Kiersten Kelly) is currently presumed dead… but actually very much alive.

That reveal was part of the main storyline, which has seen Camp Cretaceous’ CampFam mostly reunited and digging into some dino conspiracy theories in Chaos Theory. However, as Scott Kreamer told CinemaBlend, Season 2 was written with a specific ideal in mind:

As a fan of the Jurassic Park franchise, as well as the following Jurassic World era, I’ve been having a blast with Chaos Theory. Throughout Season 1, viewers saw Darius Bowman (Paul-Mikél Williams) reunite with his fellow survivors of the incident depicted in Jurassic World six years after their rescue.

Now young adults, the gang thinks they’re being hunted to protect some sort of truth involving the black market of dinosaur sales and are on the run to chase this conspiracy to the top. Season 2 definitely continues that storyline, but it’s not the sole focus of what’s to come.

If anything, the further exploits of Brooklynn carry on the bulk of the spy-centric material in Jurassic World: Chaos Theory. As this new batch of episodes kicks off, Darius, along with Ben (Sean Giambrone), Yaz (Kausar Mohammed), Sammy (Raini Rodriguez) and Kenji (Darren Barnet) are all literally adrift after boarding that mysterious ship in the Season 1 finale.

As seen in the trailer for Season 2, Chaos Theory’s decisions on the grown up Nublar Six have paid off quite a bit, especially since new events bring the series back into that familiar Jurassic Park territory Scott Kreamer was talking about. The mission of the remaining survivors boils down to one word: survival, which is something that also ties into the fan reaction to Season 1, and why this DreamWorks Animation adventure exists in the first place.

Why The Reaction To Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 2 Means So Much To Scott Kreamer

As fans have seen in the Jurassic Park movies time and again, washing up on dino-infested land kind of narrows the odds of survival more than a little. Which leads to another reason to enjoy Chaos Theory’s wild ride, as this midquel series continues to fulfill the promise of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s gigantic ending.

Not to mention, as you can see in the photo shown above, the long-held Jurassic franchise tradition of including a river adventure into the mix is upheld. Which sees a new friend named Zayna Mballo (Anaiya Asomugha) joining up with the remaining Nublar Five crew.

Since we’re still watching events that play out only a couple months prior to Dominion’s start, we get to really dive into the world of dinosaurs and their environments clashing in spectacular form. Which, as Scott Kreamer would reveal further along in our interview, partially came from watching an early cut of Jurassic World Dominion and being taken with certain aspects of the story.

Kreamer couldn’t be happier about the end result though, and as he told CinemaBlend, the fan reaction to Jurassic World: Chaos Theory’s first season only fueled his own sense of fandom:

Much like Mr. Kreamer himself, I haven’t been able to get Jurassic Park and its legacy out of my own mind. So knowing that he’s as excited about creating stories in this universe as Universal PIctures (and adheres to keen storytelling notes) only continues to convince me that he’s a vital party in keeping the wheels turning. For a change, I’m pleased to report that Universal Studios Florida has entered the game with a new Jurassic World offering that’s shaped like a Gyrosphere from that fictional amusement park.

However, there’s one key aspect that makes this prehistoric popcorn vessel something I’d gladly purchase to keep in my own collection. Prepare for some Jurassic aww:

I don’t think I need to tell you that as a fan of the Jurassic Park Universe, and all things adorable, a baby version of Blue the Velociraptor resting on a Gyrosphere is something precious to me. While there’s been plenty of merchandise for the legendary blockbuster franchise at the Universal parks, this is one of the cutest to ever hit the market.

The fact that it’s the tastiest, thanks to the addition of some fresh popcorn upon purchase, only further endears this item to my fan-fueled heart. The only way the marketing geniuses at work here could have made the situation better is if there were other baby dinosaurs to present as guardian of any eager kid’s popcorn supply.

Considering Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 2 is debuting as part of the 2024 Netflix movie and TV schedule in October, you’d think the fan-favorite dino of that series, Bumpy the Ankylosaurus, would be a shoo in for such honors. Yes, she's grown up since her debut in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, but can you honestly say that fans wouldn't welcome a popcorn bucket throwing back to her younger years?

Perhaps if Blue sells well enough, there will be some more delightful dinosaur companions in our future. As everything we know about Jurassic World Rebirth slates director Gareth Edwards’ upcoming chapter as part of the upcoming 2025 movie schedule, it won’t be long before even more new dino mayhem will be on its way.

With this unintentional reminder of that fact hitting Universal Studios Florida, I can now only hope that the Scarlett Johansson-starring picture will inspire even cooler and/or cuter popcorn buckets for when that movie arrives in theaters. That gives Universal and its marketing partners until July 2, 2025 to dream up something awesome.

I have faith, though, as this is the franchise that taught us that if something’s worth doing, life will find a way. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to start sending some emails to Universal Parks and Experiences, in hopes that I can have one of these beautiful keepsakes shipped to me for my own enjoyment.

There's been much discussion regarding Jurassic World Rebirth, the fourth film in the franchise and the seventh installment in the overall Jurassic Park saga. While many of the finer details on the dino-filled flick have mostly been kept under wraps, some story details have been divulged. Earlier this summer, it was also confirmed by franchise producer Frank Marshall that J-World 4 filming was ramping up. Keeping up with his trend of providing updates, Marshall has now confirmed that the film has officially wrapped.

Frank Marshall teased the star of production this past June when he shared a photo from his “office” – the stunning Phulay Bay, which is a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. The gorgeous snapshot he showed off was enough to make any fan – or person in need of a vacation – green with envy. When confirming the completion of filming, the Raiders of the Lost Ark producer went for a considerably less grandiose approach. He opted to share a pic of a sweet little souvenir, which you can see in the Instagram post below:

The cap appears to be a memento for crew members and may have even been a wrap gift. Regardless, that’s a cool little trinket that I’d personally love to have myself. I’d imagine that the Seabiscuit producer has plenty of fun keepsakes like this one, which makes this movie aficionado all the more envious. That aside, though, this post should come as welcome news to anyone who’s anticipating the upcoming Jurassic World movie. With the cameras no longer rolling, it means the movie will enter post production and move a step closer to completion.

A strong team has been assembled for the latest entry in the blockbuster series – both in front and behind the camera. Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Ed Skrein and Mahershala Ali are among the ensemble. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s Gareth Edwards directs from a script written by legacy talent David Koepp. This movie marks the first Jurassic film that Koepp has been credited with penning since 1997’s The Lost World. As a whole, this combination of collaborators is surely exciting and should help bolster the upcoming sequel.

In June, the first plot details for J-World 4 were released, with the basic premise being that three adults and three teens find themselves stranded on a dinosaur-inhabited island. More official Rebirth plot details dropped in August, which confirmed that the movie takes place five years after the events of 2022’s Dominion, at which point the dinosaur population is starting to die out. Amid that, a covert ops team is tasked with obtaining genetic material from three powerful dinosaurs. But, after saving a family from a failed sailing expedition, both groups find themselves on an island holding a dark secret.

What isn’t a secret is that I’m curious to see what this film has to offer and wonder if it’ll manage to recapture the spirit of the saga’s earlier entries. On that note, fans have quite a wait before they’ll be able to see the movie in its entirety. Nevertheless, thanks to Frank Marshall’s new post, I’m now comforted by the knowledge that the flick is now officially in the can.

Jurassic World Rebirth is set to storm into theaters on July 2 as part of the 2025 movie schedule. Those who want to prepare themselves for the film should buckle down and read up on the ins and outs of the Jurassic Park Universe.

Scarlett Johansson's tenure in the MCU (which can be streamed with a Disney+ subscription) has reached an end, opening up her schedule for a variety of other projects. That includes the upcoming Jurassic World 4 movie, which will bring the beloved sci-fi property back to theaters after the ending of Jurassic World: Dominion. And here's how Scarlett Johansson took a cue from Margot Robbie for her upcoming Jurassic flick.

Barbie rocked the box office when it arrived in theaters last year, and was nominated for a number of Academy Awards. The movie also made history thanks to having women behind the camera, including director Greta Gerwig and producer/star Margot Robbie. A report from Bang Showbiz (via Yahoo) offered a glimpse into the negotiations of Jurassic World 4, revealing that Johansson signed on as a producer and star, and also had a major say in the director. The report reads:

ScarJo has a ton of star power behind, and she's also been working as a producer on some of her projects, including the upcoming Tower of Terror movie. And like Robbie was able to use her voice for Barbie, the Black Widow actress put on her producer hat to negotiate and get Gareth Edwards in the JW director's chair.

This report shows what happened before Scarlett Johansson started filming Jurassic World 4, doing double duty as a producer and actor. The contents of that blockbuster are a mystery at the time of writing this story, but folks are definitely interested now that the Black Widow herself is leading the cast... even if they didn't love how Jurassic World: Dominion went down in 2022. Hopefully we get more dinosaurs and less bugs this time around.

Gareth Edwards does seem like an excellent choice to be behind the camera, and put a new spin on the Jurassic franchise. He was able to carve out a his own corner of the Star Wars franchise with Rogue One, and has credits both a director and visual effects artist. Since Jurassic World 4 will obviously require extensive CGI, it makes sense that Johansson fought hard for him to land the gig. And Edwards has already share his excitement to play in that sandbox.
