Meghan Markle and Prince Harry just moved back to the UK. However, it's been alleged that they could come back to the United States soon. No, they are not moving back to the U.S. permanently. Instead, they’re potentially coming back for the holidays to spend time with the Suits actress’s family.

It’s being reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are planning to spend Christmas with Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland, specifically. Apparently, they don’t expect to be invited to the Royal Family’s holiday festivities, and they’re going to go spend quality time elsewhere, per a friend who spoke to The Times:

Ragland lives in California, per this report, so it’s possible that’s where Markle and Prince Harry will spend Christmas. According to People, the couple will “likely travel to California” for the holidays.

Since Harry and Meghan moved back to the UK in August, there’s been discussion about the two places they’ve lived and their work in them. On the one hand, the prince’s family is across the pond; however, his turbulent relationship with them has been the cause of rumors and strife (and stories in his memoir Spare). On the other hand, Markle is from the US, and over the years, she and Prince Harry have done lots of work with Netflix. However, that gig is facing trouble, and it’s unclear where exactly the streamer and the couple stand – though we do know their adaptation of Meet Me By The Lake is happening.

Along with all that, no matter which continent they live on, part of their family is far away. Apparently, that makes geography an issue for Meghan and Harry, especially because the Duchess is so close to her mother. According to one source who spoke to Express, the actress is “bound to feel homesick and miss California.” They also alleged she’d really miss her mother, especially since they lived in the same country for years before this most recent move.

Now, while it’s been reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will spend the holidays with Markle’s mom, the location is not confirmed. It’s alleged that they could go to California for Christmas. However, where exactly Christmas and Thanksgiving will be spent is apparently up to Ragland. No matter where they end up celebrating, though, it likely will not be in Norfolk with King Charles and the royal family.

Reportedly, Prince Harry and his father stay in contact over the phone, and they met for tea in July. However, the younger prince’s relationship with his brother, William, is allegedly still not great.

So, all things considered, it would make sense if Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made their way back to the States for the holidays. However, time will tell if they choose to hop across the pond (again) or if they decide to stay in their new home.

Ari Emanuel has represented everyone from Oprah Winfrey to Larry David. He also used to be one of Meghan Markle’s agents. Now, as she moves back to the UK and we wait to see how her work on various projects evolves, her former agent got snarky about her.

Speculation still surrounds the royal couple, though Harry’s uncle, Charles Spencer, may have just added fuel to a work-related rumor.

Charles – the 9th Earl Spencer – has been promoting his new book, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister. Prince Harry told his own story in his best-selling 2023 memoir, Spare, and that’s not the only way he’s been productive in recent years. In 2020, after they announced their decision to step back as senior members of the British Royal Family, the Sussexes signed an overall deal with Netflix for their Archewell Productions banner, and it spawned several docs and a lifestyle show. In July 2025, reports began to surface about the agreement essentially being done, but a new (and lighter first-look) deal was reached in August of that same year.

Still, it’s been alleged throughout 2026, that the Netflix deal is done and, while Archewell has sought to squash those rumors, they persist. Markle and Harry also hit a setback this sumer when their acclaimed documentary, Cookie Queens, flopped at the box office. That film’s financial shortcomings prompted royal commentator Kinsey Schofield to advise the couple to “disappear professionally for a little while, dramatically reduce the number of announcements, and identify one genuinely compelling project” with the help of skilled people.

The overall consensus from insiders seems to be that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s projects needed to do better. So, theoretically, a documentary about Princess Diana – from Harry himself – could inspire interest and simultaneously be a cathartic passion project for the Duke. The OG version of Saturday Night Live isn’t back until later this month, but the UK spinoff officially launched its second season last night with a political cold opener. The sketch took shots at new British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, as well as King Charles and Queen Camilla, but the biggest laughs came at the expense of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The much-discussed ex-Royals recently moved back to the UK and have started making public appearances again. It’s a little unclear what the pair’s long-term plan is, and SNL leaned into that uncertainty with some pretty direct shots. We got jokes about blowing their Netflix money. We got jokes about hiring staff. We got jokes about needing support from the Royal Family again. We even got jokes about Megan being proud of the fact that she made ice herself.

Of course, it would be unfair to say the above sketch was merely an excuse to roast Harry and Meghan. The two were the subject of many of the more memorable jokes, but others took plenty of shrapnel too. He got roasted for his meteoric rise from nowhere, his desperation to be liked and his appeal mostly being in contrast to the leaders that came before.

In only its second season, SNL UK is still working to find its footing and figure out how much it should take from its American predecessor and how much it should chart its own course. The import initially got mixed reviews during its debut season, but by the end of its short run, the buzz was starting to build. Last night’s episode appears to have continued that momentum, thanks in part to host Jeff Goldblum. The long-term goal is obviously to become intertwined with popular culture to the point where people proactively look to you for commentary, but that’s going to take a lot more than two seasons.

Regardless, SNL UK will return for the next two consecutive weeks with British comedian and actor Jamie Demetriou up first, followed by Chicken Shop Date host Amelia Dimoldenberg. Together with premiere host Jeff Goldblum, the trio are a good example of SNL’s hosting philosophy, which is to bring in all sorts of different celebrities who are able to be funny and relevant in very different ways.

As for Harry and Meghan, their future remains uncertain. The two quit the Royal Family and moved to California six years ago. A huge Netflix deal to produce content generated a lot of early momentum, but a lack of buzzy content that came from the deal, as well as some divisive media appearances, halted a lot of momentum the couple had in Hollywood. Maybe a return to the UK or even a return to a more formal role in the Royal Family will improve public perception. Regardless, you can expect SNL UK to have plenty to say about it.

While Archewell, the group that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry formed in 2020 to manage both their philanthropic works and for-profit ventures, has refused to speculate on “unfounded” claims about the couple (an interesting response in itself), there’s supposedly a lot being said by former Archewell employees behind the scenes. According to a “knowledgeable source” for Page Six, several former members of Archewell’s production staff are part of a text chain, where they keep in touch and bond over being part of what the insider called the “Sussex Survivor’s Club.”

That’s pretty brutal, if true! It's possible the group chat's got quite a few members, too, because there has been a wild amount of turnover on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s staff. That's not even to mention the alleged layoffs of their entire communication team in 2025, which was a reported cost-cutting measure. In fact, in the six years since they started Archewell, more than two dozen employees have reportedly left or been let go, including at least 10 publicists.

Some sources have spoken out about how the Sussexes prefer to be referred to by their staff, while author Valentine Low has written articles and a book regarding the alleged bullying of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s staff. Low said the former employees he spoke to were still in a “very fragile state” more than two years later, citing Markle’s alleged “infinite” capacity for “revenge” as one of their reasons for being nervous to speak out.

The duchess’ team firmly rejected the bullying accusations.

Now, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex having returned to the UK, there are a lot of questions regarding what that means for Prince Harry’s estrangement from his father and brother, if Meghan Markle will return to acting and if they will still attempt to be “half-in, half-out” when it comes to balancing Hollywood and the royal family.

One royal commentator gave an interesting perspective on why more of their business ventures haven’t worked out, saying Harry and Meghan’s “curiosity” factor is gone — people may still want to consume content about the Sussexes but they may not be as interested in content that comes from the couple.

That sounds like an issue the Archewell employees might have to tackle, and I think I’ve heard of an alleged “Survivors” chat whose presumed members would probably have strong opinions on the topic.

Harry and Meghan took off on a private jet with seven-year-old Prince Archie, five-year-old Princess Lilibet and their two dogs, a black Lab named Pula and a beagle named Mia. They opted for a global private aviation company called Planet 9, per a Page Six report. The private jet charges $12,000 per hour, and it’s a 10-hour flight, so it’s estimated the flight cost them around $120,000.

The luxurious jet reportedly seats just 13 passengers and includes five beds, two bathrooms and enough storage for 12 to 15 medium suitcases. Since the family is planning on staying in the UK for a while, they very well might have packed the whole plane up. Unfortunately, the family’s chickens have to stay in Montecito, where they will continue to be taken care of. Prince Harry and his family have not disclosed where they are going to establish a new home base to keep their privacy, but it will not be on royal grounds.

Why The Couple Are Moving Back To The UK For Awhile

The Duke and Duchess’s move back to the U.K. was revealed just last week. While some reports thought the decision was made due to their struggling business ventures, it’s been suggested that it was made in light of King Charles III’s ongoing battle with cancer. The king is reportedly looking forward to spending a lot more time with his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren following the move.

Archie and Lilibet are already enrolled in school in England this September, and Harry and Meghan will remain private citizens rather than working royals. The Duke and Duchess continue to work closely with Netflix, despite their original deal with the streaming service falling through last summer. As of late, the couple has been dealt a few blows with their business ventures, such as their feature film Cookie Queens flopping at the box office and Netflix cutting ties with Meghan’s jam brand.

Through their production banner Archewell, they are currently helping adapt Carley Fortune’s book Meet Me At The Lake, a war film called No Way Out, and a scripted drama series focused on the sport of polo. According to Variety, long-running BBC soap EastEnders is going to introduce a new series regular, coincidentally named “Meghan.”

Producers describe her as “confident, gorgeous and ready to cause chaos.” The character was first mentioned on-screen back in April, and it seems like fans will finally be meeting her. She is a member of the Hawkins family and has been in development “for months.” While Meghan was not inspired by the former Suits star, it does come at a pretty convenient time. The character will work as a “senior member of the team behind a bar.”

Per the casting call, producers are looking for a female around 30 years old. She is an “Essex bombshell walking to the Love Island villa” and is “funny, fearless, and fiercely loyal.” Meghan is also “quick-witted and impossible to intimidate.” She “never backs down from a confrontation” and has spent “her whole life proving she can handle whatever is thrown at her.”

As of now, no one has been cast in the role. Whether or not they look like Markle is hard to predict, but at the very least, it sounds like the character is going to be inspired by her. When she’s eventually introduced, Meghan will be part of the Hawkins family, who fans recently met. They are Nicola Mitchell’s estranged family, and also include Gemma, her husband Ned, and son Ryder. Meghan, who is Gemma’s daughter, is “warm, charismatic, and effortlessly charming.” However, she is also “equally capable of throwing someone out of their ear if they cross a line.”

Meanwhile, Markle has been busy with business ventures aside from plotting her potential return to acting. Her and Prince Harry’s move back to the U.K. has been causing some controversy, with Harry previously expressing his hopes to reconcile with his family. And after the cancellation of her lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan has been nominated for the 2026 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lifestyle Program. A new report is allegedly shedding some light on the financials of the former Royals. An insider told Page Six that cash flow may be a main reason for the family to return to the UK.

That insider also specifically cited some big expenses in California, noting the couple has taken out two mortgages on their $14.5 million home in Montecito. They reportedly pay around $3 million a year just for security, a hot button topic that has come up quite a lot for the couple as the Royal family has not provided security when they return to the UK.

They have a vacation home in Portugal. A household staff, though the outlet also reports that number has dwindled from more than a dozen to around four. Meghan reportedly drives a Land Rover that retails for $140,000, amidst owning other vehicles.

Beyond the simple cost of living in Montecito, Harry and Meghan’s ventures have largely not done so well. Their relationship with Netflix has reportedly soured in recent months, and the streaming service even pulled out of her jam brand As Ever. Her show, With Love, Meghan was canceled after viewership dwindled in Season 2. Their attempt at a big screen venture, Cookie Queens, also landed in the headlines after flopping at the box office this month.

Then, just to touch again on the situation with the lawsuit filed against the Daily Mail, Prince Harry and other high-profile names (including Elton John), lost a lawsuit against the news outlet. Just this week, news broke they’ll have to pay around £9.5 million (or around $13 million USD) in reparations to cover The Daily Mail’s legal costs after losing in court. This is only the first payment, and not the full total that will ultimately be required to be paid, as well (via CNN). Though the initial amount is certainly a hefty sum on its own.

No, Harry And Meghan Are Reportedly Not “Running Out Of Money”

We don’t know the couple’s reasons for slashing staff etc, but with a move across the pond potentially looming, there could be more than one reason they are looking to make changes. In fact, other insiders stressed the situation is absolutely not in dire straits in any way, shape or form. Insiders stressed firmly that “they are not out of money,” also saying Prince Harry had inherited plenty not withstanding the revenue they’ve had coming in.

That insider stressed that despite Netflix pulling out, As Ever is allegedly doing well (though some reports claim otherwise), and of course, the couple made a reported $100 million from their initial deals, which include things like the Netflix contract the streamer reportedly got the raw end of the deal on and Prince Harry’s book deal. (Spare was a viral hit when it came out in 2023.)

I think it’s probably safe to guess Meghan and Harry’s foray to the US six years ago hasn’t played out exactly how they hoped. If their business ventures had worked out differently, I can imagine an alternate timeline somewhere out in the universe where The Duchess of Sussex made a name for herself in a way similar to what Gwyneth Paltrow or Martha Stewart (though she has some thoughts on that) did. What their next chapter will be is yet anyone’s guess.

Moments from the show did go viral, but often in a mocking way, such as when Markle transferred pretzels from a regular bag into a smaller, cuter bag to hand out. The Internet found this very amusing.

To be clear, the curiosity factor was there when With Love, Meghan premiered on the Netflix schedule. People interested in the life of the former royal turned in for the early episodes, but interest in the streaming program dwindled rapidly once people understood what the show was. So, this commentary makes sense. The Sussex name might give the two famous individuals the opportunity, but they still need to create a product people care about. It really does matter.

For McCain, it’s good riddance. She took to X (Twitter) and said some incredibly pointed things about the former Royals, writing:

Things started off well, as their company signed a deal with Netflix. The show was cancelled after many Internet memes and two seasons. To be clear, a lot of people actually gave With Love, Meghan a shot when it first premiered, proving there was at least some interest in this type of content. It’s also up for a Daytime Emmy (with limited competition) this year. However, it does not have a sterling reputation, nor did it push Markle further into the cooking or home show space. In fact, it got to a point where even Martha Stewart got a bit snarky.

For his part, Prince Harry was honest in a BBC interview earlier this year that he would like to see a change in his relationship with his family, particularly as his father King Charles has battled health issues in recent years. (Though rumors of his demise have been greatly exaggerated.) Prince Harry said this month:

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were also producers on a recently released documentary, which has since bombed at the box office. Now, an expert is giving some blunt advice on how the couple should move forward.

The film in question is Cookie Queens, and it was released in the United States on August 7 following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this past January. Directed by Alysa Nahmias, the film centers on four girls who seek to sell copious amounts of Girl Scout Cookies. While the movie has received critical acclaim (and holds a 91% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes out of 51 reviews), it’s only earned a little over $513,000 worldwide, as of this writing.

Following the film’s less-than-stellar debut, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield shared some thoughts on the matter. Schofield spoke with Page Six and acknowledged the continued recognition of Markle and Prince Harry’s names within the public sphere. However, she also noted that they haven’t been able to leverage that for the sake of financial gain. As for what the Duke and Duchess should do next, Schofield says:

Regardless of what lies ahead for the two royals, at present, this latest venture does indeed mark another setback of sorts for them. Their new chapter in Hollywood began with serious promise back in 2020 when Markle and Harry signed an overall deal with Netflix to produce a wide array of content. Several major productions were birthed from that agreement (like the Harry & Meghan docuseries), but they were met with mixed reactions. And, by July 2025, it was reported that the deal had broken down.

Uncertainty regarding the Sussexes’ deal would remain throughout the summer of 2025 until a new agreement with Netflix was announced in August of that year. However, that new deal wasn’t an overall deal but a first-look agreement for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Archwell Productions banner and her lifestyle brand. However, throughout 2026, it’s been reported that the “mood” is that the royals’ deal is essentially done, and the streamer even dropped Markle’s jam brand, As Ever, earlier this year.

Questions certainly remain in regard to what the Duke and Duchess might do next. Something that’s been wondered for some time now is whether Markle might return to acting years after having retired to marry her beau. Insiders alleged earlier this year that Markle had been “bombarded” with offers, though she’s given no indication as to whether she might step in front of the camera for a scripted production again.

Of course, that acting move would go against the brutally honest advice given to Markle and Prince Harry by Kinsey Schofield. I obviously can’t speak to how much the royal couple actually listens to commentary from pundits. However, with Cookie Queens having underperformed, I’m genuinely curious as to whether the couple will indeed opt to take a step back and evaluate their options.

Martha Stewart has not been afraid to share her thoughts on Meghan Markle entering the home and lifestyle entertainment space. However, it’s not those comments that have gotten attention. Instead, it was Stewart’s claim that Markle had attended a dinner party after being at “the palace” that has prompted a source to speak up and allege that what was said was “untrue.”

Now, for a bit of context, during an interview where Stewart didn’t hold back about Markle’s experience in the home and cooking industry, she also divulged that she saw the Duchess of Sussex at a dinner party. While commenting on that during an interview with People, Martha Stewart said:

It is true that Markle, Prince Harry and their kids had been traveling around Europe and reunited with King Charles. However, according to a source who reportedly hosted the dinner party that the Sutis actress and Stewart were at, the royal apparently did not go into detail about the trip:

Again, when Stewart was talking about this dinner party she and Markle were at, she claimed the royal couple had “just gotten back from the palace.” According to this source, that’s not what the royal said, and apparently what the Martha Cooks host said was “simply untrue.”

Allegedly, Markle was not supposed to talk about her meeting with King Charles. According to a source (via Soap Opera Spy), “everyone was sworn to secrecy so that the meeting could remain private.” The insider then went on to claim that Stewart was incorrect in her claims, alleging that:

Over the years, there have been many claims about the turbulent relationship between King Charles, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. It’s been reported that they weren’t talking, and there have been lots of allegations about whether their relationship could be mended or not. Then, in July, the king met with his son and daughter-in-law for the first time in four years, per Page Six. It would seem details about this meeting are supposed to remain private.

With all that said, the insider at the party who spoke to People did say that Markle enjoyed meeting Stewart, claiming:

However, they also made sure to allege that details about Markle’s time at the palace were not spoken about at this gathering.

Outside of this party, Martha Stewart has spoken about Meghan Markle before. As the Duchess of Sussex entered the world of cooking and home television, Stewart took the high road with her take at one point. However, during her recent interview with People, the longtime host did make a comment about it being “hard” to transition from being an actress to a princess to a “homemaking guru.”

Since With Love, Meghan’s release, the royal’s show has been criticized by many, and because Martha Stewart is one of the icons in this space, she gets asked about Markle from time to time. However, her most recent comments didn’t spark a problem because of this; instead, it was over her mention of Markle’s time at the palace.

That comment wasn’t the only thought about Markle that Stewart shared. Earlier in the interview, she was asked: “What are you like at a dinner party?” The Martha Cooks host then explained that her friends say she’s “LIFO: last in, first out.” That was followed by a story about a dinner party she recently attended that the Duchess of Sussex happened to be at. While they didn’t chat, the TV personality did share her thoughts on seeing the actress there:

Again, this is not the first time Markle has been brought up to Martha Stewart. Back in 2025, she took the high road when questioned about the royal, saying she was “not going there.” However, a few months after those comments, Stewart was asked about Markle again, and this time, her response about the royal stepping into the world of lifestyle content was, “I hope she knows what she’s talking about.”

I feel like Stewart’s latest comment has that same energy, as she noted that the career and life changes Markle has gone through are jarring.

Overall, Meghan Markle’s time in this space hasn’t been easy. Her shows have been met with lots of criticism, and there have been reports and rumors about her deal with Netflix. The streamer also dropped her brand As Ever earlier this year; however, the Duchess of Sussex is still working with it on an adaptation of Carley Fortune’s novel Meet Me at the Lake.

With all that said, we’ll have to wait and see how Meghan Markle’s work in the home and cooking space, as well as her collaboration with Netflix, evolves. Meanwhile, I’ll also be waiting to hear Martha Stewart’s take on it all.

2026 Was Not Always Excellent For The Duke And Duchess Of Sussex

This past year has seen struggles for the Sussexes on several fronts. The year kicked off with Netflix canceling (the now Emmy-nominated) With Love, Meghan, then quietly dropping out of their jam partnership with her. With the streaming business spinning its wheels, rumors started quietly running around that Harry and Meghan might return to the U.K. years after their highly publicized exit. All this happened just six years after they’d signed an overall deal with the streamer.

Now, the aforementioned Dan Wakefield, a pop culture scooper, said he had some insight into what’s really going on with Fox News. He noted the figures Harry and Meghan allegedly made were obscured, citing deals closer to $60 million and not $100 million for what they made from the streamer.

Amidst this, Prince Harry visited the U.K. in July and there was some brouhaha surrounding that visit, whether his family could come, whether there would be security available for them and whether there was potential for them to leave the United States. While he and his wife haven’t spoken out about any of this personally, Wakefield spoke on the record about that, too:

How Archewell Combats The Rumor Mill

What I found most interesting about it is that Archewell, the group that manages the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was actually contacted, and managed to comment without commenting. They told Fox News:

So, if you're hoping to get more specific word from Archewell you may be disappointed, but this is how the group replies when it comes to any rumors running about. Still, that’s not an outright denial, and I think it actually leaves a lot of room for tongues to continue wagging on the topic, particularly as we wait and see what the famous couple could do next. There has, as always, been some chatter about Meghan Markle returning to acting...

Again, we'll have to wait and see what the next act is for one of the world's most famous couples. Hopefully, when they know, Archewell will have a more official comment.

The Internet has, frankly, been brutal toward Meghan Markle ever since people found out she’d earned a 2026 Emmy nomination. I mean it when I say brutal. People have been roasting her chopping skills and joking about how she’s so good at “transferring pretzels from one bag to another,” a nod to a now-viral moment in which the actress-turned-royal-turned lifestyle host took the snack from a normal bag and dumped it into a fancier plastic bag. The jokes are ripe for the taking, and have been since With Love, Meghan released, but I do think most fans who are kidding around are missing one important piece of information.

First, here’s one particularly brutal tweet about the Emmy nomination, and a whole slew of people who are befuddled by or snarky about the news.

Like I said, anyone who has actually seen an episode of With Love, Meghan, the lifestyle series that made it for two seasons on Netflix before the streamer canceled it, knows the show is fluff. According to the Emmy nomination, it’s apparently also daytime fluff, as it got put up for a Daytime Emmy Award this TV season, surprising many.

Here is where I think people are missing a major facet of this nomination. Markle isn’t competing against The Bear. She’s not competing against The Pitt (though even the cast thought those noms were fake) or Zendaya in Euphoria. She’s not even competing against other reality shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race or Survivor’s big deal Season 50 nom. She’s not competing against variety programs like SNL or the many various late night programs.

Here are the shows With Love, Meghan is competing against at this year’s ceremony:

• The Motherhood (Hallmark Channel)

So, how could a show that was so panned (aka "painful to watch") land itself an Emmy nomination? Relatively easy, actually. Shows get submitted via application and then get voted on by a judging panel; it's that simple. Anyone can basically submit. The main criteria is the program needs to be able to be viewable by 50% of "eligible U.S. Households." However, a separate note in the official rundown mentions that programs "made online" and "intended for a national audience" fit the criteria, which seemingly works for With Love, Meghan.

It’s not even the only low-rated show to land a nomination. In fact, the only other show I was fairly familiar with was The Motherhood, a limited Hallmark program featuring Connie Britton working with single moms to help make over their lives with coaching, self-help and more. It’s also not a particularly well-received series, with a 5.0/10 rating on IMDB.

Of these other shows, at least the home renovation series George to the Rescue and the prosthetics for animals show The Wizard of Paws are well-rated on varying platforms. A Different Breed also has reasonably solid reviews, but I think the point is, the average person has probably not heard of the majority of these programs. It’s a relatively easy category to enter, and Meghan Markle could very well land an Emmy if her cards have been played correctly.

When Will We Find Out?

The Daytime Emmys are a little different than the Primtime Emmys you probably think about when awards shows come to mind. Those will hit the 2026 TV schedule on Monday, September 14th on NBC (or for anyone with a Peacock subscription). Meghan Markle and her show will not be in that lauded group, however. The Daytime Emmys happen later this year.

If you want to find out more about the Outstanding Lifestyle Program category and its winners, the Daytime Emmy Awards will be on October 30th, 2026. The big difference between the two programs is the Television Academy hosts the Primetime Emmy Awards. The Daytime Emmys are put on by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Clearly the barriers to entry are different too, but please note that no matter which Emmy you win, the statues are exactly the same.

So, that’s something.

For a while now, there have been reports and rumors about the state of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s deal with Netflix. In 2020, the couple signed an overall deal with the company; however, as of 2025, they are on a first-look deal with it. The streamer also dropped her brand As Ever earlier this year, and there have been questions about their overall relationship. However, the royals’ Archewell Productions and Netflix are still collaborating, as Every Summer After author Carley Fortune provided an update about an adaptation she’s working on with Markle and the streamer.

In terms of scripted projects in the works between Archewell and Netflix, Variety noted that there are two: The Wedding Date and Meet Me at the Lake. Today, we’re focusing on the latter, which is a book-to-screen adaptation of Fortune’s novel, Meet Me at the Lake. Right now, we don’t know much about it. However, the author did explain that it’s very much still in the works, telling Jenna Bush Hager on Open Book with Jenna:

Well, this is very exciting. Meet Me at the Lake was the second novel Fortune released, following her bestseller, Every Summer After.

Notably, Every Summer After’s adaptation, Every Year After, premiered earlier on the 2026 TV schedule for those with an Amazon Prime subscription. It was quickly renewed for Season 2, which will adapt Fortune’s novel set in the same universe as ESA, One Golden Summer. Meanwhile, there is also an adaptation in the works at Netflix for another one of her novels, This Summer Will Be Different.

All this is to say, there’s clearly a want for these books to be turned into shows and movies. That includes Meet Me at the Lake. Speaking more about collaborating with Markle and Archewell Productions on this project, Fortune said:

As a diehard fan of Fortune’s books, this means a lot to me. I want to see her work adapted in meaningful ways, and it sounds like she’s confident in the team behind Meet Me at the Lake.

For context, the book follows Fern as she runs her mom’s lakeside resort. As she works to make it better, she reunites with Will, whom she spent one very memorable day with a decade ago. So, as that old flame is reignited, they also work to rebuild this hotel, and the story, as Fortune said, also focuses on Fern’s relationship with her mom, and it dives into topics like grief and mental health.

That story will find its way onto screen in the form of a movie, and Fortune made it clear that Markle, Netflix and more are still working on it. So, as we wait to use a Netflix subscription to watch Meet Me at the Lake, we’ll be sure to keep you updated about both this film and the state of Markle’s deal with the streamer.

A few months ago, frequent Netflix collaborator (and pal of Meghan Markle) Tan France appeared on her lifestyle show With Love, Meghan. He did it to support the woman he jokes he’s in a “textual relationship” with, but as a British-American, France does understand the criticism the actress and entrepreneur has faced.

He was asked about popping up on With Love, Meghan recently by Vanessa Feltz, who questioned how the reality star got involved in the show, and asked if he knew about the “tumultuous criticism” the series faced back in the UK. With the former, France explained he’d been asked to film two days and go to the beach. He learned from Markle, and also taught her how to make his “mother-in-law’s french toast,” which he seemed to have a good time doing.

However, when it comes to the latter bit, France is well aware, telling the CH5 Show his theory.

France went on to defend the streamer adding With Love, Meghan to the Netflix schedule, calling the premise “very American” and “very Hamptons.” I would like to remind France that most Americans also don’t live on a beachy, bougie, playground, but I do think his idea that in theory the show could have worked in the US is not that unsound if the content had been super engaging. That’s not what happened, though.

The show briefly peaked on the Netflix charts thanks to the curiosity factor, but a lot of people who tried the first episode didn’t stick around. By the end of its first week, the show was already in 10th place and only landed at #383 for the year among total views. Despite this, Netflix inexplicably gave it a second season, which reportedly did even worse in the ratings.

There’s been a lot of discourse about Meghan Markle and Netflix over the last several months. What started as a match made in royal heaven seemingly turned as sour as Markle and co. kept putting out content that didn’t really resonate with viewers. Then, in March, Netflix stepped away from its deal with her lifestyle brand As Ever, and reports indicated at the time “the mood in the building is, ‘we’re done.’” A Netflix insider has refuted this, though, saying working on As Ever was only ever a "side hustle," so it's not weird this venture went by the wayside.

In short, though, it's clear what Netflix and Markle were trying to do wasn't fully working, and Netflix allegedly spent millions on a deal that never saw returns. What's unclear is what she'll do next. There's been some conversation about her returning to acting, with an insider saying there's Hollywood "interest" in the prospect. It's too bad Queer Eye ended after years of heartwarming episodes on Netflix, because I feel like the "textual" pals could have maybe done some fun work together there.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are truly forging their own path, both within the royal family and the world of Hollywood. After stepping away from life in England and all of the perks and pitfalls that came with their royal duties in 2020, they have continued to use royal titles while making deals within the entertainment industry and continuing their service trips in a way that has drawn concern from those in the palace.

Queen Elizabeth II made it clear that there was no way for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to cash in on private ventures while still fulfilling the obligations they had as senior working royals. Their ensuing move to the United States came with a bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview, a Netflix docuseries and a tell-all memoir from the Duke of Sussex, and their continued moves within Hollywood remain an issue, according to Richard Fitzwilliams. The royal expert told Fox News:

Netflix has been a big part of the Sussexes’ plan since moving to the U.S., but it’s seemingly been an up-and-down relationship. A year ago, it seemed negotiations had broken down on their yearslong relationship, only to see the two reach a new agreement — albeit a downgraded one — that kept them in business together. However, speculation remains that all may not be well, with the streaming giant cutting ties with Meghan Markle’s jam brand and other merchandise this year.

As for other Hollywood moves, Meghan Markle is set to return to acting with a small part in the upcoming movie Close Personal Friends and is allegedly being bombarded with offers for leading roles.

The way that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can do this while still making service trips to places like Nigeria, Colombia and Ukraine that resemble royal engagements highlights those previously mentioned differences from what Harry’s father, brother and sister-in-law are doing as working royal members. Richard Fitzwilliams said:

Indeed, they do seem to be both making moves to benefit their own lives while continuing the life of service Prince Harry was born into — but somehow doing it without wholly committing to either Hollywood or the royal family. As British royals expert Hilary Fordwich said:

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have made some major business moves in recent years. Chief among those would be their five-year partnership with Netflix, and that was signed shortly after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to step back from their positions as working royals. The pair don’t have that same kind of relationship with the streamer anymore and, all the while, they allegedly have a pricey way of life to keep up. At the same, there’s the question of whether the two might leave the states and return to the UK.

How Expensive Is Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Lifestyle?

A recent report lays out claims in regard to just how much money the Duke and Duchess must shell out per year to maintain their household. Emily Andrews of Woman & Home calculated the costs and, in her estimation, Markle and Harry reportedly £4-5 million per. In terms of USD, that sum equates to somewhere between $5 million and little more than $6 million. It’s worth mentioning that the royals currently live in a mansion in Montecito, California and also have a staff consisting of a security detail and other employees.

This report comes after the end of a few of Markle and Prince Harry’s professional partnerships, specifically those with Netflix. It was in 2020 that the couple signed that multi-year media deal with the mega-streamer, and that partnership yielded several projects, including the much-discussed Harry & Meghan docuseries in 2022. Subsequent projects didn’t receive as much buzz, however, including the criticized lifestyle series With Love, Meghan.

It was that reported lack of public interest as well as changing business dynamics and more that reportedly prompted Netflix not to renew its exclusive partnership with Markle and Harry’s Archewell Productions and settle on a more general first-look deal instead. That decision reportedly cost the streamer a lot of money and, more recently, the company also dropped Markle’s jam brand, As Ever. Per insiders, the mood at the streaming giant is that the partnership between both sides is essentially done.

Questions remain regarding what the royals might do next. As of late, though, there have been reports regarding the prospect of Markle returning to acting. Markle – who stepped away from acting eight years ago following her engagement – even recently filmed a cameo for the MGM film Close Personal Friends. Also, both Markle and her husband have been taking on speaking engagements, and it’s believed that could be an indicator of their future.

Could Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Actually Move Back To The UK?

The notion of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moving back to the United Kingdom doesn’t seem too far-fetched to some analysts right now. However, that seems to be far from a certainty at this point. However, at the very least, insiders claim that, at the very least, a trip to the UK may be in the cards for the couple. They’re about to embark upon speaking engagements in Australia, and a source alleges that the couple are using that as a way to test the waters for a tour in the UK. They explain to The Sun:

Markle and Harry returning to the UK in any form would be significant, especially given the familial drama that has surrounded them and the British Royal Family as a whole in recent years. As for whether or not they would move personally, it’s possible it could cut down some financial costs for them. Plus, it’s also been alleged that the pair have dropped out of their neighbors’ good graces in California due to the consistent buzz that surrounds them. Of course, all of this can only be taken with a grain of salt for now.

There are always a lot of opinions and questions surrounding Meghan Markle amidst her and Prince Harry’s ongoing estrangement from the royal family, whether it’s tension between the Sussexes and their neighbors, the constant turnover of their staff or a number of other topics. What we don’t talk about all that often is whether or not the Suits alum might return to acting. A former co-star’s comments have changed that, leading to the duchess apparently being “bombarded” with work offers.

Eric Roberts, who played Charles Forstman starting in Season 4 of Suits, raised eyebrows last month when he told The Daily Mail at a red carpet event that Meghan Markle “will return” to acting. According to a senior casting agent in Los Angeles, this has led to directors and producers “scrambling in the last couple of weeks” for opportunities to hire her. The agent told Page Six:

Meghan Markle retired from acting eight years ago after getting engaged to Prince Harry, and since then, she has only appeared as herself in series like Harry & Meghan, With Love, Meghan, and other docs available with a Netflix subscription.

Now, projects in a variety of genres are available to the Duchess of Sussex, according to the casting agent, who said:

In fact, Meghan Markle has already filmed a part for the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends from Amazon MGM Studios. The film is still in post-production, so it’s unknown if it will be finished in time to make the 2026 movie release calendar, but it stars Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid and Henry Golding. Markle will reportedly play herself in a small cameo.

We’ll have to wait a little longer to see her take on fictional roles, but if and when that happens, the casting agent predicted it’s going to generate “stratospheric” hype:

The timing of these comments is interesting, as Meghan Markle’s partnership with Netflix is in question after the streaming giant dropped her jam brand, which some think signals the end is near for their overall deal.

Only time will tell what will happen between Netflix and the Sussexes, and whether or not Meghan Markle goes back in front of the camera.

It sounds like Meghan Markle is looking to continue growing the As Ever brand, which sells jams, honeys, teas, wines and even a candle that smells like the royal wedding, with some arrangements costing more than $200.

However, the expert seemed skeptical that Netflix would drop As Ever if the product were as “hugely profitable” as Meghan Markle’s team alleged, but either way, the rep said the Duchess of Sussex was relieved to be able to “go it alone.”

The soured deal has reportedly cost Netflix quite a bit of money, and some insiders have suggested growing frustrations from the company over their partnership with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. However, Netflix maintains publicly that it values their relationship, saying they are glad to have played a role in bringing Markle’s lifestyle vision to fruition and even that this separation was one they’d planned for. A Netflix spokesperson said:

The positive spin from Netflix hasn’t stopped the speculation. Last July it appeared that the deal between the Sussexes and the streamer had broken down, with both sides walking away from negotiations. However, a deal was struck a month later to keep Netflix in the Harry and Meghan business. The new first-look agreement, however, is a downgrade from the royals’ initial contract.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have had more than their share of public troubles over the years, including numerous rumors about everything from their relationship with the royals they left behind to how the bigwigs at Netflix feel about Meghan and Harry. Their contract with Netflix has been winding down for some time, and now it appears that the streamer isn’t the only one distancing itself from them, as it’s being reported that some of their neighbors are no longer aboard the Sussex train, either.

What’s Being Said About Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, And Their Neighbors

Shortly after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left their duties as working royals behind in 2020, they did two additional things in the hope of changing their lives completely and for the better: signed a mega deal with Netflix for their Archwell production company and moved to Montecito, California. The ritzy locale is also home to stars like Jennifer Aniston (who bought Oprah’s former manse in the city), Sharon Stone, Tyler Perry, Ariana Grande, and Gwyneth Paltrow, but now it’s been alleged that things aren’t copacetic between the Sussexes and those who share the neighborhood with them.

A new report from Page Six claims that others in the area are now “avoiding them,” and that the alleged frostiness has been brewing for years, with one source noting:

Obviously, this is the type of situation where we will be unlikely to get any kind of official statement from any of their famous neighbors, but it wasn’t that long ago that actress-turned-lifestyle influencer Paltrow publicly gave Markle words of encouragement as she started her own As Ever brand of products. Then, after the former working royal launched her lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan (which you can watch with your Netflix subscription), and took tons of flak for it, the Oscar winner went viral for a video that showed her letting the Suits actress into her home and then very neighborly sharing some pie with her.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a rift between Meghan, Harry and at least one of their neighbors. It was a few years ago that an 88-year-old resident claimed he was turned away at their gate while attempting to “be neighbourly” and gift the couple with some films he’d made about the area. It was around the same time that it was also reported that the couple were considering relocating to Malibu, but it seems that they’ve decided to stay put, at least for the time being.

A source close to the couple had a rebuttal to the rumors of there being issues with the parents of two and their neighbors, and simply told the outlet:

You can maintain good standing in your community without having close personal relationships with your neighbors, after all. So, hopefully, that’s true in this case.

Netflix may have just saved itself a lot of money by not buying Warner Bros., and even made a couple of billion thanks to a healthy kill fee attached to the deal. But that money will help balance the books. Netflix may have lost millions of dollars in its lifestyle brand deal with Meghan Markle.

Netflix has been a place where a lot of public figures have gone over the last few years. Barack and Michelle Obama have a deal there, but that one appears to be doing much better than the one signed by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Netflix recently got out of a partnership with Markle and her As Ever lifestyle brand. It was a deal that, according to an unnamed insider who spoke with Page Six, was a total loss for the streamer. Certainly, if Netflix invested money and saw nothing from it, that’s a reason to reconsider. Not making a profit, or not even making back an investment, would be one thing, potentially worthwhile if the relationship was worth it. But if Netflix never saw a dime, that’s reason to change your strategy.

New business ventures are always difficult, even if you have clout and the money that Markle and Netflix are able to put behind it. As Ever, which sells luxury flower boxes with special arrangements for over $200 a pop, was launched alongside With Love, Meghan, the home and lifestyle show (available with a Netflix subscription) that was hosted by Markle for two seasons.

As Ever was only launched 11 months ago. The exact reason for the end of the partnership isn’t clear. While the loss of money was almost certainly a contributing factor, reports are that the Netflix series won’t be returning for a third season. And some inside the studio are saying that since the Netflix series was done, it simply didn’t make sense for Netflix to continue in that business.

Of course, that leaves open the question of why the series isn’t getting another season. While there have been rumors of conflict inside the Netflix/Markle relationship, the two sides did re-up the deal last summer, so things didn’t appear to be so difficult that it wasn't worth continuing.

It's possible Netflix is just getting out of the Meghan Markle business. The way that Netflix cancels shows, even ones with a lot of fan support, this just may be another case of that. Either way, Markle will now be able to focus more on making As Ever the success she surely wants it to be.

Sources reported last July that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s deal had broken down, with both sides walking away from negotiations. However, it was later said that talks were still ongoing, though now it seems those “new deal talks” may not have been as solid as they once appeared. For a deal that once felt like a major Hollywood power move, the couple’s partnership with Netflix could be done, heading toward a very different ending than most had expected. So what really happened with their Netflix Deal?

In 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed an overall deal with Netflix, with big plans to build a content empire through Archewell Productions. Surprise, surprise, Meghan Markle is under fire again from critics, and her upcoming Netflix special is involved. With Love, Meghan drew lots of attention when it was released on the 2025 TV schedule in spring, thanks to an awkward exchange with Mindy Kaling over her name, a viral one-pot pasta and lots of opinions about the duchess entering the lifestyle space. This time it’s a green dress that’s at the center of the brouhaha.

Meghan Markle’s series is returning to the Netflix schedule for the holidays, with a trailer for With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration showing a new batch of guests assisting the hostess with baking, decorating and spreading plenty of holiday cheer. However, one portion of the preview caused people to take pause when they recognized one of the dresses she was wearing:

This one-shoulder emerald green number appears to be the same one she wore in a 2022 issue of Variety, as she allegedly “took the dress from the shoot without asking,” according to a source for Page Six, which was reportedly for purposes of archiving her wardrobe as a royal.

The source confirmed rumors that the $1,695 Galvan “Ushuaia” gown had disappeared from the photoshoot, and a second source verified that Meghan Markle did end up in possession of the dress.

As some begin to speak out about Prince Harry’s wife removing clothing from photoshoots, a third source for the trade is calling the entire situation a “misunderstanding” and saying that they understood this to be a common practice. They continued:

Yet another insider, however, denies that this is part of royal protocol, calling it a “fib.”

Whether or not Meghan Markle was required by royal tradition, protocol or standard operating procedure to procure the $1,700 dress for her archives, the big issue seems to be the manner in which she took it. A fashion source explained:

I’m personally not sure of what was done or how the gown ended up back in Meghan Markle’s closet, but if she did knowingly take a dress that wasn’t hers to keep without asking, wouldn’t it be strange to then wear it on Netflix?

But, I understand there are things that can’t be explained, like why photos of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attending Kris Jenner’s birthday party were deleted from social media or why fans are upset that Meghan Markle uses expensive cookware on With Love, Meghan or why anyone would need a candle that smells like her royal wedding (OK, if it smells good, I do understand that one).

As Meghan Markle prepares to launch With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration on the 2025 TV schedule (you’ll be able to stream it with a Netflix subscription on December 3), she spoke to Harper’s Bazaar about her life, her family’s move and her career since then. Those close to her opened up about it as well, including her collaborator Terry Wood, who said:

Wood, who is the former executive vice president at Oprah Winfrey’s production company Harpo Productions, has worked with Markle on a few occasions. She was most notably an executive producer on Oprah’s revealing interview with Harry and Meghan back in 2021. She also worked with the Duchess of Sussex on her podcast Archetypes.

So, Wood has experience working with the couple, and Markle specifically, and she feels like the actress has a very good grasp on her voice and image. Explaining how the With Love, Meghan host tries to present herself, her collaborator said:

Since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got together, her fame has skyrocketed to insane heights. She’s beloved by some and scrutinized by others, and with that has come a lot of viral noise. From stories about behind-the-scenes drama between her and Kate Middleton at her wedding to the couple’s reportedly rocky relationship with the Royal Family, there have been unfavorable pictures painted about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Their work has been criticized, too, with some calling Markle’s show, With Love, Meghan, “painful to watch.” Meanwhile, there are others who defend the duchess and her projects.

Now, these comments from Wood make it clear that Meghan Markle is self-aware and knows how she wants to present herself amidst all this noise.

As I mentioned, as people continue to talk about her and her choices, Markle’s career is expanding. She’s releasing the Christmas special for her show, With Love, Meghan, and her brand, As Ever, is growing, as it's selling candles now. The Duchess will also return to acting by making a cameo in the movie Close Personal Friends. So, it seems like she’s working on things she’s passionate about, and these new quotes show that she likely knows how said work impacts her image, too.

Practically everybody who’s anybody was at Jeff Bezos’ and Lauren Sánchez’s $165 million mansion this weekend to celebrate Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday, with celebs like Oprah Winfrey, Martha Stewart, Mark Zuckerberg and more posing for pics with the birthday girl and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner family members. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were also among the revelers, but a photo initially posted of the Duchess of Sussex with Kim Kardashian has mysteriously disappeared from the Instagram post.

Kim Kardashian and her mom shared plenty of star-studded photos from the huge James Bond-themed birthday celebration, so it’s understandable if fans didn’t notice that one slide went missing from one of the multiple posts. Kardashian — dressed in a sparkling purple homage to Halle Berry’s character in Die Another Day — had been pictured with Meghan Markle in one shot, but now it’s gone. (Below you can see some others though!)

The photo, which seems to have been removed from Instagram, showed the Suits alum in a black turtleneck dress, while Prince Harry — seen having a conversation with someone in the background — sported a tuxedo. Their wardrobe options fit the 007 theme well but were actually the same outfits they were pictured wearing earlier in the evening, when they attended Serena Williams’ annual Baby2Baby Gala.

The big mystery is why the photo would have been removed. Did either Kim Kardashian or Meghan Markle object to how they appeared in the pic? Did the duchess ask for it to be taken down? Whatever the reason, it seems that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s association with America’s rich and famous rubbed some the wrong way. One insider who allegedly works with the royal family told Page Six:

Could the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have asked the Kardashians to remove their photos from social media because it was a step in the wrong direction of a possible reconciliation?

It’s hard to say, because this isn’t Kim Kardashian’s first disappearing photo mystery. Just this summer she removed a bikini photo from a post about her family’s lake vacation, seemingly because it contained a Photoshop fail. In fact, that's a move she’s been pulling for years (as if fans aren’t screenshotting everything anyway).

It may have been a potential photo editing issue, an attempt to head off royal backlash, or something else altogether. Unlike at party hosts Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding, phones were allegedly prohibited from Kris Jenner’s party, and sometimes celebs prefer not to be photographed.

We can’t be sure what exactly happened, but if removing the photo of Kim Kardashian and Meghan Markle was an attempt to downplay the Sussexes’ presence at the bash for any reason, I’d say the plan has backfired.

While Meghan Markle certainly hasn’t been absent from the public eye for a long time, it has been close to a decade since she was getting attention for her acting. But now it looks like that performing hiatus is coming to an end after eight years, as word’s come in that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has scored her first acting role since she made her last appearance as Rachel Zane in Suits Season 7. This time around, she’s appearing in a movie that’s going to co-star Brie Larson.

As reported by Variety, Markle is set to have a cameo role in the comedy Close Personal Friends, which Larson will star in with Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, Brie Larson and Henry Golding. The movie is currently filming in Los Angeles, and the story follows a “regular” couple that becomes friends with a celebrity couple while they’re on a trip to Santa Barbara, though this leads to lines getting crossed and things getting awkward. Melissa Villaseñor, Natasia Demetriou, Anna Konkle, Patti Harrison, Jack Shalloo and Dustin Demri-Burns will also appear in Close Personal Friends.

It’s unclear which character Brie Larson will play in this upcoming comedy, as well as exactly what this cameo for Meghan Markle will entail. If I had to guess, she’ll play a fictional version of herself who knows the celebrity couple, and some kind of hijinks will ensue. Perhaps it’ll be something like when Keanu Reeves appeared as himself in the Netflix subscription-exclusive movie Always Be My Maybe, where Markle’s personality sharply contrasts with how she is in real life.

Behind the scenes, Jason Orley is directing Close Personal Friends, and he crafted the story with Isaac Aptaker, who’s writing the screenplay. Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are producing the comedy, and they previously worked with Orley on I Want You Back, which can be streamed with an Amazon Prime Video subscription. Close Personal Friends hails from Amazon-MGM, but it’s unclear if it will get a theatrical release or be streaming-only.

In addition to her seven-season stint on Suits, Meghan Markle’s other notable acting credits include movies like Remember Me and Horrible Bosses, and guest spots on TV shows like Fringe and Castle. Although she left acting behind upon marrying Prince Harry in 2018, Markle has continued to be active in the media since then. This ranges from the couple’s production company Archwell Productions partnering up with Netflix for various documentary series, to her narrating the 2020 Disneynature documentary film Elephant.

In a report about how Meghan and Harry have been working in Hollywood, Page Six spoke to a source who made claims about how "hopeless" they are in the workplace. They alleged:

They went on to recall how Prince Harry reportedly showed up late to a meeting with Netflix and proceeded to ask an executive for a cup of hot chocolate. Apparently, this isn’t the first time that the prince was focused on his beverage of choice.

A Spotify employee alleged to Vanity Fair earlier this year that Prince Harry came into the LA office and asked for a cup of hot chocolate too, and since there was none, the employees “scrambled” to round some up. Then, he was apparently pitched an idea to review hot chocolate every week, and he and his team rejected it.

This news comes after there have been rumors about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s troubles with Netflix. Over the summer, it was reported that Netflix might back out of its deal, partly because of Markle’s As Ever brand. Additionally, their projects have faced criticism, with people calling Markle's culinary lifestyle series "tone-deaf," for example. A source close to the couple also told THR that they are “both poor decision-makers,” with Prince Harry being an “enabler.” Meanwhile, Markle just lost another publicist.

Since Netflix wound up renewing the deal, albeit with a downgrade, the streamer seems to be on good terms with the couple. However, it's also possible that the hot chocolate and lateness are signs of or factors in the couple’s ongoing problems with Hollywood and their overall Netflix deal.

Of course, this is all rumor, and it’s not confirmed that Prince Harry showed up late to a meeting and immediately wanted hot chocolate. But, as we mentioned, this might hint at some larger issues he and Meghan Markle could be experiencing in Hollywood when it comes to their businesses.

In the description for “Signature Candle No. 519,” it explains that this product is As Ever's signature scent, and represents “love at first light.” It also reveals that the product was fully inspired by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding day:

Turning that description into a smell, No. 519 has “grounding notes of Moroccan mint leaf, white tea leaves, and a back note of woodsy cardamom.” It’s also explained that this fragrance is meant to evoke “the freshness of a day in the English countryside, a long walk in the garden, and a spirit of happiness that is hard to resist.”

Now, there’s been a fair number of rumors about the drama that happened behind the scenes of Markle’s wedding. She and Prince Harry also now live in California, away from the other royals, and these days, Prince Harry’s relationship with his family is rocky.

However, this product highlights the happiness and joy that came with that royal wedding. I remember the Suits cast congratulating her on the day, and I remember how gorgeous the ceremony was. Meghan Markle caused quite a stir with With Love, Meghan, the lifestyle series that aired on the Netflix schedule earlier this year, with everything from an awkward interaction with Mindy Kaling to freaking out the Internet with her one-pot pasta. As questions remain about the fate of the series amid her and Prince Harry’s new deal with Netflix, the Duchess of Sussex has lost yet another publicist — her 10th since stepping away from her royal duties in 2020.

Emily Robinson joined the Sussexes’ team as Meghan Markle’s director of communications in June after previously doing publicity for Netflix. It was announced last week that she was already leaving the position, with a spokesperson for the duchess telling US Weekly:

The move comes soon after other changes to their communications staff and after years of turnover. In July, it was reported that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle cut ties with their entire comms team in an effort to save money.

It’s unclear if Emily Robinson’s exit is related to the future of With Love, Meghan. Meghan Markle remained coy regarding the future of the lifestyle series that aired two seasons on the 2025 TV schedule — one in March and one in August, which can be streamed with a Netflix subscription. Earlier this month at a Forbes panel, she said of a potential Season 3:

The latest departure in the Sussexes’ staff follows a big shakeup this summer, when the couple’s Los Angeles-based deputy press secretary Kyle Boulia and UK press officer Charlie Gipson left alongside two other members of their private team.

Archewell’s director of communications Deesha Tank and head of operations Lianne Cashin also departed, in addition to Meghan Markle’s social media manager and a personal assistant.

Last year, Ashley Hansen exited her role as global press secretary and head of communications, per People, in order to launch her own firm. Two of the duchess’ former publicists — James Holt and Miranda Bardot — did not leave but rather were promoted to non-public relations roles.

There’s been much speculation, articles and even a book about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s treatment of their staff. Valentine Low has reportedly spoken to many former employees who allegedly say they’ve been bullied. Low recalls the “very fragile state” of his sources, as he said even more than two years after leaving their positions, they allegedly remained afraid of Meghan Markle’s “capacity for revenge.”

The duchess’ team has firmly rejected Valentine Low’s claims, saying the author “continues to desperately recycle false, offensive, and long-discredited allegations in an apparent bid to sell books and resuscitate relevance.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have seen a lot of change since relocating to the United States, so we’ll have to wait and see what’s next for the couple. in the meantime, both seasons of With Love, Meghan along with the Sussexes other shows, are still available to stream on Netflix.

Prince Harry admitted there probably have been times when he didn’t look cheerful, due to the stress of what his family has been through, what’s come out through the lawsuits and the online hate Meghan Markle receives.

He said he thinks there’s a disconnect between how he is portrayed in the media and how the British public sees him, and even though he feels he’s “been destroyed by certain members of the British press,” he trusts that the people “can speak and think for themselves.”

The duke’s memoir may have increased friction between him and his father and brother — William and Harry remain estranged despite reported “reconciliation efforts” — but Princess Diana’s younger son doesn’t regret writing Spare, because he said it serves to correct many stories that were already out there.

Only time will tell if Prince Harry can mend his relationships with his family, and in the meantime maybe we shouldn’t jump to conclusions if we see photos of the Duke of Sussex looking “miserable.”

All the while, rumor has it that the rest of the Royal Family is “reluctant to engage in reconciliation efforts”. Months ago, a source claimed that “nobody trusts” Prince Harry or his wife in the Royal Family right now after they haven’t held back about their issues with the royal lifestyle publicly. Despite continued tensions, it sounds like Markle is living her best life and being genuine to herself.

Five years have passed since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped away from life as royals in the U.K., moving to the United States for a fresh start away from the notorious British paparazzi. Their contract, which saw the royals produce a variety of reality series/documentaries for one of the best streaming services to the reported tune of $20 million/year, is due to end in September, and a source noted that while there was “no animosity from either side” those at the streamer simply “feel they’ve got all they can from the couple” so no renewal of the contract would be made.

According to the Daily Mail, which spoke to its own sources recently, that’s supposedly not the case. One insider said:

One of the things that was pointed to as a reason for why Netflix was going to let the deal end without a new contract was the performance of the shows that the Sussexes created. The first docuseries, Harry & Meghan, proved to be a blockbuster hit (though viewers were brutal in their assessment of the content). Unfortunately, the shows that followed failed to light streaming viewership numbers on fire in the way Markle’s Suits had, with Polo, Heart of Invictus, and Live to Lead barely making a dent. With Love, Meghan also had issues when it came to eyeballs on the product, having placed below several seasons of her legal drama.

Why Aren’t Netflix Or Harry And Meghan Talking About The Alleged New Deal And What Might It Mean For Their Shows?

First of all, it’s worth noting that Prince Harry is said to not be a part of this alleged new Netflix deal, as he’s more focused now on his charity work than producing streaming programs. As for the silence of Markle and the grandaddy of all streaming, another source said:

We’d previously heard that one of the reasons Netflix was stepping away was that Markle is more interested in building her As Ever brand, and they didn’t want to play second fiddle to it. What’s Been Said About How Netflix, Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Feel As Their Deal Reportedly Breaks Down?

The early days of the 2025 TV schedule brought those with a Netflix subscription what might now be the last program formed from the partnership between the streamer and the Sussexes, the hotly contested home entertaining show With Love, Meghan. That series (which saw Meghan Markle launch herself into the celeb lifestyle influencer marketplace occupied by the likes of Martha Stewart and Gwyneth Paltrow) has now been revealed to have placed below several seasons of Suits, the former actress’ legal drama, right as we’re hearing that the multi-year, multi-million dollar deal will be allowed to lapse when the contract expires in September.

This report comes courtesy of The Sun, which spoke with an insider who claims that part of the reason the deal (allegedly worth a total of $100 million) will be scrapped is because Markle has made her As Ever brand her top project, as opposed to creating programming for the streaming service. That source claimed:

Late 2022 saw the couple and streaming service launch the first part of Harry & Meghan, the docuseries which saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex detail their experience as a couple while they were still working members of the British royal family. The revelations held within that and part two of the doc included many allegations of bad behavior on the part of the press and royals, and while it was certainly popular in terms of viewership, it proved just as controversial as much of what the couple has done.

This was hardly the only program planned for Netflix, but all of them have been embattled in one way or another. While Markle’s lifestyle series had to delay its premiere because of the L.A. wildfires, their animated show, Pearl, was axed before it could even really get off the ground, the extreme delay for Heart of Invictus led many to think it had also been canceled before it could air (it wasn’t), and their other shows (Live to Lead, Polo) barely made a dent when it came to viewers. The source, however, noted that there are no hard feeling for either party, adding:

Shortly after With Love debuted, Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos said that they were still working with the duo because he felt “Meghan is underestimated in terms of her influence on culture,” and added that he thought she and Harry have been “overly dismissed.” While there’s been no confirmation that the deal really won’t be re-upped, there have also been claims that the regal marrieds are also now attempting to save money by cutting their personal full-time PR staff, along with many who handled things for their various brands, and are instead employing a PR firm. Meghan Markle has 100% made her mark on Netflix. Between her and Prince Harry’s popular docuseries Harry & Meghan to her cooking show With Love, Meghan, there are plenty of opportunities to keep up with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex by way of a Netflix subscription. However, she’s also made her mark on the streaming service with Suits. So, I’ve been wondering how the two shows compare in terms of popularity. Well, we have an answer.

I have to say, while the answer doesn’t necessarily shock me, it is a bit jarring. I fully expected Suits, a very popular and long-running drama, to have more viewers than the new cooking series With Love, Meghan. However, I didn’t expect their rankings on Netflix’s What We Watched report to be so far apart, as the legal drama’s first season sits at No. 151 while the new cooking show landed in spot 383.

Now, let’s break these numbers down further. Out of Suits' nine seasons, the first four of them outrank With Love, Meghan. The order of their ranking is as follows:

• No. 151 – Suits Season 1, 86 million hours viewed and 9.3 million views
• No. 242 – Suits Season 2, 82.9 million hours viewed and 7.2 million views
• No. 306– Suits Season 3, 72.2 million hours viewed and 6.2 million views
• No. 378 – Suits Season 4, 61 million hours viewed and 5.3 million views
• No. 383 – With Love, Meghan, 25.5 million hours viewed and 5.3 million views

Seasons 5 through 9 of Suits all rank lower than the cooking show, with Season 5 at No. 424, Season 6 at No. 465, Season 7 at No. 479, Season 8 at No. 595 and Season 9 at No. 623. It’s worth noting that Markle left the show after Season 7.

Overall, it is a bit jarring that a brand new show, like With Love, Meghan would bring in a significantly lower number of viewers than Suits, a show that’s been out and over for years. However, it’s also not surprising.

Suits had quite the resurgence a couple of years ago, and it absolutely dominated on Netflix in 2023, specifically. Plus, it’s been proven time and time again that long-running and popular shows that are completely over can retain and grow audiences on streaming as they continue to find new viewers while old fans re-watch – just look at the sustained popularity of shows like The Office (which you can watch with a Peacock subscription) and Friends (which is now streamable with an HBO Max subscription).

Also, in With Love, Meghan’s defense, it has had less time on Netflix than Suits. This report tracks numbers between January and June. The legal drama has been on the streaming service since 2023. The Duchess of Sussex’s series was delayed on the 2025 TV schedule due to the LA wildfires, and ultimately premiered in March. So, the USA Network series had a head start.

However, it’s still a bit wild to see the numbers, considering the interest the public has in the Royal Family and Meghan and Harry specifically. Although never doubt the power of a comfort, long-running show, they were on the air for a long time for a reason, and clearly have the power to keep viewers interested on streaming, too.

When it comes to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their family feuds, it doesn’t get much bigger than the estranged relationship between the Duke of Sussex and the rest of the royals. However, let’s not forget that Markle has an equally strained situation with some of her own relatives. The rift between her and her dad became really apparent when he staged photos for the paparazzi ahead of her 2018 wedding, but one author claims things went wrong long before that.

In his royal fly-on-the-wall book Revenge, author Tom Bower delves into a big sticking point in the relationship between Meghan Markle and her father. Bower claims that as a lighting director in the entertainment industry, Thomas Markle tried to help his daughter get her foot in the door in Hollywood, distributing her headshots and taking her to the Emmy Awards when she was 17. However, the relationship allegedly soured not long after when she lost the role in a play. Bower writes (per the Daily Mail):

Because Meghan Markle chose to attend the retreat, her drama teacher reportedly cast a different student in the leading role, which infuriated the actress, the author says. The book continues:

Tom Bower writes that according to Thomas Markle, Meghan was “furious,” screaming that he should “obey her wishes.” Markle presumably did go on to do the lighting for the school play, and it reportedly wasn’t long after that his daughter moved in with her mother Doria Ragland.

Thomas Markle made headlines in 2018 when it was discovered that he’d staged photos of himself preparing for his daughter’s wedding and sold them to the tabloids, reportedly making upwards of $100,000. The palace was displeased with this turn of events, to say the least, and responded by uninviting Meghan’s father to the wedding, where he had planned to walk his daughter down the aisle.

A source is now saying that Markle could have helped to prevent that, had she not turned down a guest appearance.

The Duchess of Sussex, who portrayed Rachel Zane for seven seasons of the original show, did not appear on Suits LA before it became another of the shows canceled in 2025 — dashing our hopes of a Prince Harry-on-set story. There may be some bad blood there, too, as a source for Radar says the cast and crew of the spinoff is allegedly disappointed that Meghan Markle reportedly turned her back on the show instead of helping. The insider said:

There were rumors that she might appear on the spinoff, and certainly there was hope. Aaron Korsh, the creator of both Suits and Suits LA, said the door was open to Meghan Markle for a cameo, either as Rachel or even playing herself.

The insider alleges that as the show failed to get good ratings, Suits higher-ups were begging the duchess to make an appearance, as her co-star Gabriel Macht had. Macht reprised the role of Harvey Specter for a three-episode arc, but it didn’t move the dial the way a different cameo likely would have. The source said:

That clearly didn’t happen, and the source went on to say that not only could Meghan Markle possibly have kept Suits LA from cancellation, but doing a solid for her old friends might have benefited her down the road. In their words:

It is always good to be owed a favor, and especially if money’s a little tight these days — the Sussexes reportedly had to make some staffing cuts to save some cash recently — it might have been nice for Meghan Markle to have that in her back pocket, if the insider’s allegations are true.

Apparently, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are making moves to save money. Since they moved to the US and became estranged from the Royal Family, it’s been reported that they’ve let some of their staff go in an effort to cut costs. Now, it would appear that a few more people who worked for the couple are no longer employed by them.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle allegedly cut ties with their communications team, Page Six reported. This was reportedly done in an effort to save money, and it comes a month after quite a few other employees left. This brings the reported count of staff members who have exited or been cut since 2020 up to 25, the outlet reported.

Last month, it was reported by Hello! that Kyle Boulia, the LA-based deputy press secretary for the couple, and Charlie Gipson, the pair’s UK press officer, both left alongside two other members of their private team. Page Six also noted that Archewell’s director of communications, Deesha Tank, and the head of operations at Archewell, Lianne Cashin, have also departed. The exits also included Markle’s social media manager and a personal assistant.

Notably, Emily Robinson is their only other in-house rep, and she hired Method Communications to help. An industry expert commented on that choice, too, saying:

Now, at the time of this writing, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix deal is set to end this year. Allegedly, it’s worth about $20 million as opposed to the reported $100 million some thought it was worth. It also noted that while they had hits with their docuseries Harry & Meghan and With Love, Meghan, those with a Netflix subscription didn’t tune in as much to Heart of Invictus and Polo.

It was also reported a year ago that Markle was struggling to get Netflix projects off the ground, and the couple lost their deal with Spotify in June 2023.

According to the story, these kinds of developments could make covering costs harder. The couple travels a lot, they own a very expensive home in Montecito that they reportedly paid $14.65 million for, they reportedly have to pay for part of their “faux foreign tours,” and their annual security bill is allegedly around $2 million.

So, there are a lot of costs for them to cover. Whether this has anything to do with their staff departures is unconfirmed.

The report also notes that while some of this might have been to save money, there are also claims that suggest the couple might be difficult to work with.

According to one insider, these developments aren’t surprising, because they’ve had high turnover among their staff, they claimed:

Over the wedding weekend, there were also reports about Leonardo DiCaprio and his girlfriend being in Venice for the festivities. Sydney Sweeney was also at Bezos and Sánchez’s celebration, allegedly, because she’s making a blockbuster for Amazon MGM Studios. The guest list included Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Tom Brady and more, too.

Meanwhile, Charlize Theron wasn’t invited and spoke out about it, saying that it was OK “because they suck.” Now, if this rumor about the royal couple is true, Markle has the opposite opinion about not getting invited.

A report from the Daily Mail (via Page Six) notes that in 2022, as Meghan Markle was celebrating her keynote address at the One Young World Summit in Manchester and promoting her (eventually failed) Archetypes podcast, she was set on landing the cover of Vogue in September.

Markle and the editor of UK Vogue at the time, Edward Enninful, were friends, and supposedly were already working on an extensive feature for his September issue, but then had a falling out over the cover. The host of the highly criticized With Love, Meghan wanted the cover, but he’d already selected a cover star in supermodel Linda Evangelista. According to a source:

Apparently, the realization that she would not be granted the cover led Markle to go above Enninful’s head to Anna Wintour, who, along with being the long-time editor of US Vogue, is also chief content officer of the magazine’s publisher and global editorial director for all Vogue publications. Wintour met with the Goop brand competitor (though Gwyneth Paltrow is willing to appear on Markle’s lifestyle series), but also put an end to her cover hopes for the popular issue.

However, a source who spoke with Page Six has said that the fact that a cover star had already been chosen was not the main problem that The Devil Wears Prada inspiration had. As they said:

Well, this report, if true, does put a different light on things. If a ginormous star like Beyoncé can’t command what is basically total control over the conditions of their magazine cover, along with getting a global cover (meaning her image would have been on at least the US and UK Vogue September issues), then it makes sense that absolutely no one would.

While there are claims that the whole dust up led to the former working royal and Enninful no longer being friends, Page Six’s sources say the opposite. And, if nothing else, it does seem that Markle needs as many friends and “warm and respectful” acquaintances as she can get.
