The entire premise of Hannah Montana featured Miley Cyrus playing a normal teenager (also named Miley) who lived a double life as a famous pop singer (named Hannah Montana). Miley was heavily involved in the character creation and music, so, imagine my surprise when former Disney Channel fan Katie Milesky announced her husband did not actually realize Miley Cyrus played Hannah Montana or that Hannah Montana is not actually a real person.

Even Miley Cyrus was surprised by these series of events. But first, let's take a look at this TikTok.

Honestly, if you weren’t watching Hannah Montana when it came out, I suppose I could see how you’d only have a vague awareness of what the show is or was as a concept. Obviously, it’s been a bit of a Hannah Montana love fest on the 2026 TV schedule in recent weeks, as Miley Cyrus approached the anniversary of the series that helped her break big. Thanks to a little advice from Dolly Parton, it was her idea to bring the show back to the forefront with a special, and she got it done for those with a Disney+ subscription.

I’m too old to have ever watched an episode of Hannah Montana, but all the main bullet points leading up to the release of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special Event are pretty much embedded in my brain somewhere. So, it’s wild to think someone of a similar age to me just does not have this same awareness. But y'all, try it on your husbands and boyfriends, because I think some of them may be more clueless than you'd guess.

One day, you’re watching the premiere of Hannah Montana and CowBelles on the same night, with Miley Cyrus and Aly & AJ hosting the festivities. Then one day, you’re getting ready to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hannah Montana. Disney and Cyrus are going all out to celebrate the big milestone for the phenomenon that is the pop star with a brand-new special, complete with special guests. And I have some ideas as to who could join the fun.

Disney+ has been teasing the Hannah Montana 20^th Anniversary Special for quite some time. The newest trailer shows Cyrus, donning a blonde look like her alter ego, walking through recreated sets, performing, and joined by special guests. Billy Ray Cyrus, who starred alongside his daughter as Miley Stewart’s father, Robby Ray, is appearing in the special despite the two's estranged relationship. Tish Cyrus is also in the special, and that's not all. According to Variety, Selena Gomez, who portrayed Hannah’s rival Mikayla, is also making a surprise appearance, thanks to the special’s host, Call Her Daddy’s Alex Cooper, who arranged the surprise.

As of now, there has been no word on whether Cyrus’ other co-stars, such as Emily Osment and Jason Earles, both of whom have posted about the anniversary, will join in on the fun. It’s also unclear whether Moisés Arias or Mitchel Musso will appear, but all four, or even if it’s just one, would be a nice surprise considering it’s hard to imagine Hannah Montana without Miley’s best friends Lily (Osment) and Oliver (Musso), her annoying big brother Jackson (Earles) or Jackson’s annoying younger boss Rico (Arias).

Other possible special guests include Cyrus’ godmother, Dolly Parton, who portrayed Miley’s Aunt Dolly on Hannah Montana. The two superstars are still close, and Parton is partly responsible for the 20^th-anniversary special coming together. Cyrus’ on-screen on-again, off-again beau Cody Linley recently shared that he’ll be celebrating the anniversary with the cast, but did not make it clear whether he’ll be taking part in the special.

Hannah Montana has four seasons under its belt, meaning four seasons of beloved characters that aren’t just the main characters. The possibilities are endless as to who could be appearing in the special, if there are even going to be more guests in the special. Of course, the biggest question being if any more of the main cast will be in it, but it seems like Disney is keeping things pretty locked tight until the special drops.

As a Day 1 Hannah Montana fan, I could not be more excited for the 20^th anniversary special and to relive my childhood in a whole new way. Regardless of the special guests, I cannot wait to see what Cyrus has up her sleeve for it. The Hannah Montana 20^th Anniversary Special premieres on Tuesday with a Disney+ subscription.

The new look at the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special has Miley Cyrus as her beloved Disney Channel character, driving around Los Angeles, all grown up. We see her taking the stage once again for a concert, revisiting some real sets, doing a juicy interview with Call Her Daddy podcast host Alex Cooper, and having sweet moments with both of her parents. But, there’s not a single tease that any of her cast members will be joining her.

What’s Going On With Emily Osment And Other Supporting Cast Joining In?

As someone who grew up loving Hannah Montana, obviously Miley Cyrus was a huge part of it, but the supporting cast really made it what it was, too. Emily Osment’s character of Lilly, in particular, was the character I always loved, and seeing Lilly and Hannah/Miley’s antics was really the heart of the show. Now, I’m really starting to wonder if she’ll be part of the special or not.

And, here’s the thing: I do think it’s very possible that the cast, like Osment -- who currently stars in her own sitcom called Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, and was recently shown an old Hannah Montana script on the set of it -- could appear in this special. But, there's literally zero hint at that happening as of now. Osment hasn’t been sharing the Hannah Montana trailers, and it’s getting me worried that she was shut out of the special completely.

Moisés Arias, who has been in Fallout recently, Mitchell Musso and Jason Earles also make up the main cast, and are notably not brought up in the trailer. Having seen this new trailer and seeing how Miley Cyrus is reacting to her old stomping grounds by herself, I’m already kind of disappointed that the other cast isn’t with her reacting too. They were part of the phenomenon alongside her and should be included, in my opinion. But, if I had one must for the special, it’s Emily Osment.

Either way, I’m sure the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary special is going to be great, but I’m not going to lie, I’m going to be pretty disappointed if her cast isn’t part of this at all. The special is dropping on Disney+ on March 24!

The 2026 Golden Globe winners were named this past Sunday amid 2026 TV schedule, and the annual awards show drew many of Hollywood's biggest and brightest stars. The pair had a sweet reunion at the event and, in the aftermath, fans cannot seem to get enough.

While Cyrus and Gomez may have had some drama during their Disney Channel days, mostly due to their shared interest in Nick Jonas, the two have buried the hatchet. They’ve also shown support for one another over the years on social media and have been able to catch up at certain events, like award shows. During the big night, Gomez was nominated for Best Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for her role as Mabel Mora in Only Murders. Meanwhile, Cyrus received a nom for Best Original Song for “Dream As One” from Avatar: Fire and Ash. Even though neither snagged a Globe, they seemed like they still had a lot of fun, and fans were more than happy to see the two together again.

Award shows and social media are not the only places in which Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez have shown support for one another either. Shortly after its premiere for those with an HBO Max subscription, Heated Rivalry joined the ranks of HBO shows that got the world talking. The book to screen adaptation has been wildly popular, and luckily has been renewed for Season 2. There are all sorts of questions about what might happen when it returns for its sophomore entry, and it turns out that Miley Cyrus is interested in getting involved. And Scott Hunter actor François Arnaud had an A+ response to this viral story.

Heated Rivalry gave queer folks their own smutty series, although it's become a bonafide sensation that's being watched by plenty of folks outside the community. Fans have questions about Season 2, and in an interview with Variety, Cyrus addressed getting involved in the fun, enthusiastically saying:

Cyrus was specifically asked about bringing one of her songs into Season 2 of Heated Rivalry, and seems down to clown. She recently sang the original song for Avatar: Fire and Ash, and famously sang and acted in Black Mirror (which is streaming with a Netflix subscription). Heated Rivalry was a big point of conversation throughout the Critics' Choice Awards this year, partly thanks to François Arnaud attending and representing for the cast. The show has been viral at least partly thanks to its steamy sex scenes, and was even talked about by Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper during their New Years Eve broadcast. But whether or not Miley Cyrus gets involved for Season 2 remains to be seen.

Heated Rivalry's first season is currently streaming in its entirety over on HBO Max. It's unclear if Season 2 will arrive in the 2026 TV schedule, but anticipation is sky high.

Last night was a big night for Hollywood with the world premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash. The news movie includes a song by Miley Cyrus over the closing credits, and so the singer was in attendance at the big event, alongside her boyfriend Maxx Morando. While fans may not know entirely quite what’s going on, most everybody who is a fan of Miley seems to be thrilled at her apparent engagement. As we inch closer to Avatar: Fire and Ash’s release on the 2025 movie schedule, it’s been revealed that Miley Cyrus has written a song for it. By itself, this is a very surprising and exciting update, because until right now, I’d never thought to associate her with James Cameron’s franchise. However, I love that this is happening, and so do the fans, as many of them already have a specific prediction about the acclaim this track could receive.

Miley Cyrus Wrote An Original Song For Avatar: Fire And Ash

To announce her involvement in the long-awaited third Avatar movie, Miley Cyrus took to Instagram to share a personal message about her connection to the story. She noted how she lost her house to fire and had to rebuild, and because of that experience, “this project holds profound meaning.”

The singer also spoke about her love for the film’s themes and thanked James Cameron for the opportunity to be part of this project. You can hear a snippet of her song, “Dream As One,” and read her full statement below:

Along with writing about this song’s deep meaning, Cyrus also said she co-wrote the track with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. I have to agree, I do think she’s a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination. Avatar has had lots of success when it comes to nominations, and Miley Cyrus is a beloved and massive artist. So, I will not be shocked if she’s at the ceremony to represent the Fire and Ash. However, if she does make it to the ceremony, her competition is going to be stacked.

The Race For Best Original Song At The 2026 Oscars Is Already Getting Heated

I’m not kidding, I think the 2026 Oscars could have one of the best lineups when it comes to Best Original Song nominees. Along with this track from Avatar: Fire and Ash, the upcoming musical Wicked: For Good will feature two new tracks that could easily get nominated for Best Original Song.

However, the competition does not stop there. That’s because this year, we also got Sinners, the incredibly well-reviewed horror flick from Ryan Coogler that features a bunch of incredible original music. And, KPop Demon Hunters didn’t just dominate the musical movie space; it has also spent months on the Billboard charts. So, it would be genuinely shocking if “Golden” didn’t get a nod.

That is a seriously impressive lineup of music that could get nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s Academy Awards, and I love that Miley Cyrus could be a part of this now, too.

As a longtime fan of The Voice, I was over the moon with excitement at the announcement that Kelly Clarkson was returning to the revamped singing competition for Season 29. However, we recently learned the struggles her family has been facing, which caused absences from her talk show and concert cancellations. Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, died after a years-long battle with cancer and, now, it looks like the singer will miss some tapings of The Voice. So who are they looking at to fill her spot?

The Voice’s 29th season will premiere during NBC’s “Legendary February,” during which the network will air Super Bowl LX, the Winter Olympics and the NBA All-Star Game. In keeping with that theme, the upcoming cycle has been dubbed the “Season of Champions”; however, the two music superstars who are being looked at to step in for Kelly Clarkson don’t quite fulfill that criteria. The source continued:

John Legend and Adam Levine are the other Voice coaches for Season 29, and while they have each previously brought a team member to victory on The Voice, neither Kelsea Ballerini (Season 27) nor Miley Cyrus (Seasons 11 and 13) can say the same. However, Ballerini did previously replace Kelly Clarkson when she was ill during Season 20.

Kelly Clarkson isn’t the only mentor affected by the current circumstances. Season 28 coach Reba McEntire was married to Brandon’s father Narvel from 1989 to 2015, and she too will miss some tapings of her upcoming season due to the death of her stepson, who she paid tribute to in a sweet post. The insider said The Voice is doing whatever it can to accommodate McEntire and Clarkson, saying:

It’s unknown if another coach will fill in for Reba McEntire or if The Voice could potentially film around her absence. It will be interesting to see how the singing competition handles losing a coach for each of the next two seasons, but it sounds like the priority is making sure McEntire and Kelly Clarkson get the time they need during this terrible time for their family.

Miley Cyrus is at the top of her game. On the heels of a Grammy win for her anthemic song, “Flowers,” the singer/songwriter recently released her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful, which centers themes surrounding her healing journey from some of her darkest moments in her life. The album feels like a marker for Cyrus, as she begins the next new phase of her career in a reflexive way. Now, she's opening up why she's not venturing off into side businesses like Selena Gomez and Dolly Parton have.

The 32-year-old pop singer recently appeared on the New York Times-produced podcast, The Interview. During the discussion, Cyrus chatted about the different phases she has gone through in her music as well as how stardom and fame have impacted her writing. She also talked about why she has chosen to focus on music as opposed to business ventures like a clothing line or a makeup brand. Based on the comments Cyrus shared about a cosmetics brand, she just doesn't seem so enthused:

Makeup lines have certainly been huge business ventures for many popstars, and some have become incredibly wealthy because of them. Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez all have brands that have become very successful. Even Fenty Beauty has pushed Rihanna to billionaire status, despite the singer not having released an album in almost a decade. However lucrative a beauty company is, though, Miley Cyrus still seems to have no interest. Still, Cyrus does respect artists who dabble in business, like her godmother Dolly Parton:

While Cyrus may not have any external careers ventures she's invested time into, it’s important to note that she has also had a successful acting career outside of her music. She started as the lead of the Disney Channel show, Hannah Montana, and has since taken on roles in movies and TV shows like Black Mirror and The Last Song. However, in recent years Cyrus has definitely made music her main focus, and it seems to be what she's most passionate about.

The "Midnight Sky" performer isn’t the only one who's decided to focus on music. Fellow pop princess Taylor Swift also has centered music and, at present, Swift holds billionaire status. Artists like Adele, Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber have also done well in that regard.

While I love a multi-faceted creative person, I think there is something truly authentic about Miley Cyrus’ perspective and her aim to only focus on what makes her passionate and happy. To me, her music ultimately feels so personal, and she has seemingly connects with fans on a deep level across her various eras. So, if her career is in a good place, there may be no real need to change But make no mistake, I won't criticize Cyrus if she opts to release skincare line or fragrance.

Miley Cyrus isn’t afraid of a big, bold fashion moment. From her Hannah Montana days to her Bangerz era to stand-out singular instances like the iconic safety pin dress she wore to the 2024 Grammys, her career has been full of confidence and cool looks. Now, she’s proving all that again in a magazine spread that doesn’t just include a range of outfits, it also features her posing naked for the cover.

In this latest photoshoot from the singer, she posed in a variety of looks for various covers of Perfect Magazine. One of those images featured no clothes at all (much like her 2020 Rolling Stone cover), and as you can see in Perfect's Instagram post, Cyrus really did bare all by posing nude from the waist up, and covering her breasts with one of her arms.

Much like Sabrina Carpenter’s nude Rolling Stone cover from earlier this summer, Cyrus looks perfect and so confident. While I’m sure it can be uncomfortable baring all, I imagine it can also be quite empowering as well.

That’s something Miley Cyrus touched on too, saying the following about this image from her cover shoot:

I know I can certainly feel the power she’s talking about. Her confidence jumps off of the photo, and she looks absolutely stunning. Also, this has to be one of the most candid ways one can present themselves, which might add to the powerful feeling the “Flowers” singer was talking about.

Along with this nude image, Cyrus also posed in a wardrobe from Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, and she paired a pair of white Converse with the light blue gown. Another cover image also came from the dressing room, and she donned a lovely corset top while holding up her hair. All together, these three images, which appear to be in a greater set of six (the other three have not been posted yet), show the singer in various stages and styles that show off her range in style as well as her self-assurance as a person and performer.

Of course, we’ve seen that on display from “The Climb” singer time and time again through both her performances and her fashion choices. For the sake of this story, let’s focus on the fashion. From the time she wore blue chaps to the moment when she donned a crystal-covered dress, 2025 alone has been full of iconic outfits and instances from her.

The sheer number of legendary looks from Cyrus over the last few months makes sense, too. She’s had a busy year as she recently dropped her album, Something Beautiful, and its companion film. Oh, and she performed with Beyoncé, too. So, there have been a ton of moments where she’s shown off not only her talent as a singer but also her immaculate style.

Now, in her latest photoshoot, the clothes went away for one cover, and she bared all. That’s a powerful thing to do, and as she said, there’s a “level of power” to doing something like that that makes her even more of an icon.

After her album release of the same name, Something Beautiful the film just hit the 2025 movie schedule internationally, and Miley Cyrus celebrated the occasion with a sweet behind-the-scenes post highlighting her celebrity fashion journey during the pop opera's production, as well as one “opulent” look that had heads turning as she performed onstage. She claimed her ombre minidress fit like a glove, but I was honestly just waiting with baited breath for a wardrobe malfunction from the crystal-covered concoction.

To be fair, Miley's dress did fit pretty well for one she says came directly off a rack. She tried it on, and the rest is history. The fit of the dress is likely why she latched onto the pretty blue and green bead and crystal-covered number for Something Beautiful; it required no tailoring, which would have assumedly been intensive given the number of items attached. She said of the dress on Instagram:

I’m certainly not taking away from how great she looked in the dress, which featured beaded fringe, an asymmetrical hemline, a cascade of color, and a corseted back. The only concern I have here is around her chest. The dress gaps a bit where it should be fitted to her body. I suppose that was perhaps intentional so she was able to move in it more easily, but, again, I’d be super worried about it shifting in a way that led to a wardrobe malfunction.

Given we see it in side profile, she seemed confident enough in the design to not be rocking a bunch of tape, but personally I still don't know if someone handed me that dress that I’d be comfortable dancing and moving onstage in it. It wouldn't be the first time Miley might have dealt with a wardrobe malfunction, either. That's probably why Miley is the pro and I am just the girl writing about the pro, though.

Again, Miley Cyrus looked stunning in the dress and throughout Something Beautiful, and she's been championing the fashion in the movie over the last several weeks as it has made its way into theaters in the U.S. and now globally.

If you haven’t seen the musical performance film yet, as she alluded to in the video, there are costume changes, including a leather look, a suit with a partial facial cover, blue cowgirl chaps that already went viral, and even a catsuit with a gorgeous ponytail. Her 13 original songs are present in the film, but I have to say, I was even more there for the fashion.

It's a great time to be a fan of pop music, as pop girlies old and new have been consistently releasing new content. But few have had the same impact at Beyoncé, who is arguably the best performer of her generation. She's currently bringing the Cowboy Carter tour around the world, and fans in Paris were shocked when Miley Cyrus appeared on stage to perform their duet "II Most Wanted" for the cheering crowd. Afterward the "Flowers" singer took to social media to share a touching tribute to the Destiny's Child alum.

Miley Cyrus has already had a long career as a pop star, and has gotten to work with a number of acclaimed collaborators. But none are quite as iconic as Bey, with the two singers using their country roots to bring "II Most Wanted" to life. After performing the track in Paris, Cyrus' Instagram post featured footage, photos, and a message of love for the Dreamgirls star. The caption reads:

Talk about a pinch me moment. For millennials like Miley Cyrus (and myself) Beyoncé is aspirational and music royalty. We grew up with her Destiny's Child before her solo career, which has changed the music world forever with albums like Lemonade and Renaissance. So being able to work with her on a song, and finally perform it live on tour, seems like a significant experience for the Hannah Montana alum.

Upon the release of Cowboy Carter, fans immediately responded to the vocals of "II Most Wanted", and how well the voices of Knowles and Cyrus worked together. Later in her same post, Miley went on to share:

It really sounds like getting to have this experience with Beyoncé was an absolute thrill for the singer/actress, who recently released her new album Something Beautiful. We'll just have to wait and see if Miley and Beyoncé get to work on any future tracks together. While we're still waiting for a sequel to "Lemonade" with Bey and Lady Gaga, I'd be happy to see any of these possible duets happen in the future. Bring on the crossovers!

Nearly 20 years after it premiered, Hannah Montana remains a pop culture favorite among fans that can be rewatched with a Disney+ subscription. Its impact on the entertainment industry turned Miley Cyrus into the youngest celeb inducted as a Disney Legend. Despite going through her many different eras and struggling with fame after the show ended, both Hannah Montana and the Hannah persona still mean a lot to the “Something Beautiful” singer, but there is still at least one thing Cyrus would change about the Disney show.

One of the best things about Hannah Montana, if not the best thing, is Miley Cyrus' talents as a singer and performer IRL. Not only did Cyrus put on the wig and outfits and perform actual concerts, but she also had a hand in writing some of Hannah’s biggest hits. She was inspired to lend more of her voice after her attempts to maturate the character went unfulfilled.

Speaking on the podcast Every Single Album, Cyrus said she now wishes she'd been just as quick to make sure her contributions were legally recognized. In her words:

Fans of Hannah Montana know that there are some very personal songs, and although Cyrus shared that some tracks are “episodic” in that they work for a specific episode or storyline, there are certainly others that more directly reflect her personal life. Her initial reasoning for not pushing for songwriting credits makes sense, since she was just a child star trying to succeed, and naively believed that portraying Hannah Montana was simply enough.

Which is part of the reason why Meet Miley Cyrus was a thing. The character's second album, aptly named Hannah Montana 2, was a double album that also featured 10 songs sung by Cyrus as herself. The songs were inspired by a breakup, and she was truly able to be herself and have songwriting credits. But it gave fans just a taste of who she really is, and although Hannah was never able to veer into more mature storytelling with those songs' lyrics, Cyrus putting out her own music gave her that form of expression.

Regardless of Hannah Montana’s clean-cut image and Miley Cyrus trying her best to give her a mature edge, she has proven time and time again that the experience meant the world to her. She even shared an emotional letter on the show’s 15^th anniversary, showing that she will always be Hannah.

It’s hard to believe that several actresses nearly earned the lead role in Hannah Montana, such as Lucy Hale and Aly Michalka, and it's equally hard to imagine how different things would have been had Cyrus not won the executives over. It would have been nice to see a more mature Hannah from the start, but perhaps a reboot will come together in the future that finally gives the actress the chance, even if it's not part of the 2025 TV schedule.

Remember like 10 years ago when big, beaded, chunky necklaces were all the rage and mint green was seen on walls and dresses alike? That was peak wedding bridesmaid era for me, and I have so many coral and mint beaded necklaces, I don't know where to begin. It's been a minute, but Miley Cyrus recently brought both the style and the color back in a new way when she made a bikini top and chaps out of chunky mint jewelry. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Someone more brazen than me might see a look like this fit and take a pair of pliers to all that chunky jewelry I know is still sitting in a drawer somewhere, but I could never create (or pull off) anything nearly as elegant as what Cyrus is rocking here. It’s definitely a style worth checking out, though even if I did have the chops to pull it off, I’d probably be concerned about the shoulder snaps strapping.

Miley's always been big celebrity fashion accessories, and the gloves she's wearing here complement the outfit, though they are certainly not as memorable as her infamous foam finger. She doesn't need an outlandish accessory though, as the entire outfit feels like it is basically a wild accessory in and of itself.

The singer wore the style for her brand new music video “Easy Lover,” the second single off her new Something Beautiful album. The song was written a few years ago and shopped around for the singer’s last album (and then allegedly for her collaboration with Beyoncé, who also went in a different direction) before she ultimately signed on Brittany Howard to play guitar.

For a song that may never have seen the light of day, the move seems to have paid off. Miley fans are in love with the song, and the album as a whole, calling it one of her "most artistic" ventures to date. For others, her style, her music and her video is even a favorite.

I’m also loving the song, but for me, it’s the comments fans are making about how Miley doesn't follow trends that really speak to me. While Miley has had a lot of great fashion moments over the years, I'll be thinking about this beaded mint top for days.

If you are like me and grew up watching Disney Channel in the 2000s, you're probably aware of Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus' alleged feud. The two former child actors grew up alongside each other on the network, via Cyrus' Hannah Montana and Gomez's Wizards of Waverly Place. Strife-related rumors were always circling, and they seemingly remained distant-but-friendly publicly burying the hatchet some years back. At least until they crossed paths at the 2025 Oscars.

Of course, some ex-child stars, who are still acting today, also auditioned for the part all those years ago, including a Disney Channel vet who came close. Now, I've learned that Lucy Hale was also among those hopefuls early on.

It's honestly starting to feel like just about any and every notable tween actress of the early 2000s, including Aly Michalka, Daniella Monet, Taylor Momsen, were vying for Hannah Montana's lead role. Hale admitted during her BuzzFeed puppy interview (which is on YouTube) that she’s auditioned for many notable productions over the years. What's most surprising about her Hannah story, though, is that she apparently auditioned way before Miley Cyrus was in the mix:

It's honestly somewhat hard to picture Lucy Hale as Miley Stewart though, given her Tennessee roots, I can understand why casting directors were interested in her. Hale's performance in A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song and work on her country album prove she certainly has the pipes that would've been necessary for the role. What should be mentioned, though, is that if she had booked the gig, there's a chance she may not have eventually joined the cast of Pretty Little Liars. Hale may not have known it at the time, but I'd say everything worked out in her favor.

Also, it doesn't sound like the Katy Keene star holds any ill will in regard to roles she didn't land. Hale also admitted during her interview that she auditioned for Pitch Perfect, Hairspray and even the Oscar-winning film The Substance. She also previously recalled going out for Fifty Shades of Grey and not understanding the sex references. All in all, I really love the actress' take on not landing roles:

After missing out on Hannah Montana, Lucy Hale ended up being tapped to play Aria Montgomery just several years later, and she certainly made that role her own on Pretty Little Liars. Also, on a side note, Hale did appear on Disney Channel after auditioning for HM. She appeared during two episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place Season 1, playing the role of Justin Russo’s girlfriend, Miranda Hampson.

When it comes to Miley Cyrus, she was initially denied the lead role of Miley Stewart because she was too young and still won in the end. Today, Cyrus still has love for Hannah and, as a fan, I love that. As great as Cyrus was as the character, though, it's cool to ponder what someone else might've done in the role. I'll continue to think about that while waiting to see if anyone else follows in Lucy Hale's footsteps and reveals their own audition for the musical teen sitcom.

Bowen Yang is continuing to prove just how much of a force he is in Hollywood–in front of the camera and via his travel habits. Lorne Michaels’ SNL requirement for Yang to join Wicked involved a regular commute from New York City to London and back again, regularly. Once Wicked wrapped, the Fire Island actor expressed just how glad he was to have the opportunity, regardless of the hours he kept, but glad his wild and regular plane days were done. Although for The Oscars and Lady Gaga week at Studio 8H, he picked up that old Ozian habit, which didn’t take me out but his Miley Cyrus nod did.

The Saturday Night Live cast member continues to be a bright spot on the historic 2025 TV schedule season. And while he’s become one of the most recognizable faces on the titular evening, his foray into movies has helped catapult him to new heights. Between Wicked last year and his two 2025 movie schedule flicks–The Wedding Banquet and Wicked: For Good he’s become increasingly busy. And that’s not even mentioning his killer podcast, Las Culturistas, with BFF and cohost Matt Rogers. All this to say, he shared with ET (via its TikTok) his crazy NYC-LA commute for the big event, kicking it off with the classic LA Cyrus song, he shared:

It doesn’t shock me the Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens actor pulled out such an iconic line to make light of his tight timeline. That casual but pointed humor has helped his career climb as quick as it has.

Yang then went on to share that he didn’t take any special plane to make it to The Oscars. He noted that he’s just typical traveler and likes to be a conscious traverler, saying:

Again, his response is just lightly witty but honest and relatable, continuing the vibe of why his likeable factor. It’s probably just one of the reasons why he’s bonded so well with the Wicked cast and had to show up for them for The Academy Awards. In the future though, The Monkey King alum may have to change this habit with his continuing rise in popularity.

And even though he’s becoming a household name, he still has his fangirl moments. The Garfield Movie actor shared why he committed to the Miley Cyrus song-themed weekend and it’s because of the upcoming hosts and musical acts–Lady Gaga. With the Peacock subscription streamable show booking his personal "White Whale" guest for his own podcast, there’s no chance Yang would miss anything. He stated passionately:

As a fan of both, I am over the moon waiting for this weekend! Both to see the fun they’ll have on the NBC show and to know the Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld alum will maybe catch up on some sleep. Whatever sketch they’re in together, hopefully it doesn’t go viral like Yang's surprise Wicked meme. We’ll have to wait and see!

This is a big weekend for Saturday Night Live, as the sketch show celebrates its 50th anniversary with events leading up to SNL50: The Anniversary Special, airing live on the 2025 TV schedule (or with your Peacock subscription) on February 16. Lorne Michael reportedly spent an exorbitant amount of money to ensure that the biggest and best cast members and guests would return, and you know Miley Cyrus is always grateful for a reason to dress up. She attended Saturday’s homecoming concert with her mom, wearing a black leather dress that was absolutely next level.

Miley Cyrus has a long history with SNL — with multiple appearances as its musical guest, including two where she was a double threat as host and musical guest — so it makes sense that she would snag a ticket to SNL50: The Homecoming Concert held February 14. For the red carpet she donned a floor-length Roberto Cavalli gown with featured winged leather cutouts:

Miley Cyrus is often known to create big celebrity fashion moments with revealing pieces (her dress of 14,000 safety pins comes to mind or the sheer top that earned the approval of her sister, Brandi). The Roberto Cavalli was fairly full coverage, though, with bits of sheer fabric peeking through the layers of cutouts until reaching a train of tulle that pooled behind her.

She paired the dress with lace-up black stilettos and chose to do without jewelry, leaving her long, highlighted hair down and tasseled so that she ended up twinning with her mother, who she brought along as her date.

Amid drama between Billy Ray Cyrus and his son, Trace (Miley’s father and brother, respectively), the Hannah Montana star has chosen not to engage, but she did bring mom Tish Cyrus along to the Saturday Night Live event, as they walked the red carpet together. Tish was looking quite amazing in her own black leather outfit:

On a night that also saw Lady Gaga teaming with Andy Samberg to sing “Dick in a Box” — the hilarious Lonely Island song originally performed by Samberg and Justin Timberlake in 2006 — Miley Cyrus took the stage at SNL50: The Homecoming Concert to sing her hit “Flowers.”

The Endless Summer Vacation artist first hosted Saturday Night Live in 2011 and pulled double duty as host and musical guest in 2013 and 2015. She returned five more times as the musical guest (2015, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021), in addition to some cameos.

When the three-hour live event SNL50: The Anniversary Special airs at 8 p.m. ET Sunday, February 16, on NBC and Peacock, we can expect a who’s who of Saturday Night Live alumni — including Chris Rock, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, Adam Sandler, Seth Meyers, Pete Davidson, Maya Rudolph, Eddie Murphy, Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen, Tracy Morgan and more — as well as celebrity guests including (but not limited to) Ayo Edebiri, Quinta Brunson, Tom Hanks, Sabrina Carpenter (will we see more Domingo?), Kim Kardashian, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Pedro Pascal and Peyton Manning.

The focus is sure to be on the comedy more than the fashion. So I’m glad Miley Cyrus gave us this moment to stop and appreciate the black leather look amidst Saturday Night Live’s big weekend.

In the past couple of years, Pamela Anderson has really been making waves on a new chapter in her life. Known for rocking that red swimsuit in the cast of the TV series Baywatch, Anderson has published a memoir, her documentary Pamela, a Love Story that can be watched with your Netflix subscription, and stars in a new movie The Last Showgirl. After Miley Cyrus co-wrote and sang a song for the drama film, the former Disney Channel star revealed how the Canadian-American actress influenced her song. Let me just say how much I love Anderson’s reaction to hearing her music.

In The Last Showgirl, the Grammy winner has contributed to the film’s soundtrack with her original song “Beautiful That Way.” In Miley Cyrus’ X video where the two stars talk about that powerful ballad, the “Flowers” singer revealed where her inspiration came from in helping to put the song together:

The Hannah Montana actress also said her favorite part about “Beautiful That Way” was how simple it was in that “Vegas old-school groove,” and that it flowed the way it was recorded without being “overfixed.” The Golden Globe-nominated song truly is beautifully heartbreaking where it starts with the singer introducing a beautiful performer we all need to see.

In the end, it’s like Miley Cyrus is reassuring the showgirl that she must have known her show would eventually end and another girl would be the next star. However, we need to remember to “spin baby spin.” As The Last Showgirl is about an aging Vegas showgirl facing an uncertain future when her revue closes, Cyrus’ song fits in perfectly with the Gia Coppola film’s strong themes.

Miley Cyrus truly has a gift for performing music for movies that mirrors the emotions of the characters. “When I Look At You” from the teen romance film The Last Song had the pop star sing about how the presence of someone special brings comfort in dark times. In the LGBTQIA+ drama film Freeheld, her song "Hands of Love" was about the power of love. And you can’t forget about “The Climb” from Hannah Montana: The Movie about the young pop singer's journey.

If you thought you were feeling all kinds of emotions listening to “Beautiful That Way,” Pamela Anderson was right there with you. The former Playboy Playmate of the Month expressed how she felt hearing Miley Cyrus’ beautiful song and one surprising fun fact about her first listen:

It really was “the cherry on top” for Miley Cyrus to perform The Last Showgirl’s closing song, as Pamela Anderson said. The singer/actress did a flawless job giving us old-school Vegas vibes while channeling the film’s themes of accepting the next act of your life’s journey. With Cyrus and Anderson constantly changing and evolving in their careers, I’m sure the TIFF premiere film spoke volumes to both performers. You can watch the 2025 movie release in theaters now.

Lady Gaga

In 2013, years before proving she was a phenomenal actor with a Golden Globe-winning performance on American Horror Story and an Oscar-nominated performance in A Star is Born, Lady Gaga pulled double duty at Studio 8H. In addition to her earnest performances of "Do What U Want" and "Gypsy," the pop star (née Stefani Germanotta) appeared in some of the best SNL sketches featuring a famous musician, which were made classic by her willingness to poke fun at herself.

Mick Jagger

After previously hosting and performing alongside his bandmates in The Rolling Stones in 1972, Mick Jagger would return to SNL to headline the 37th season finale on his own. For his performances of classic tracks like "The Last Time" and "It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)," the legendary frontman was accompanied by Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters, and Jeff Beck.

Donald Glover

Donald Glover (a.k.a. Childish Gambino) opened his Season 43 SNL episode by singing about his ability to do "anything" in jest but was still able to back up that claim quite sufficiently with his hilarious acting and memorable musical performances. In fact, the episode famously marked the debut of the Atlanta star's hit single, "This is America."

Stevie Wonder

The most memorable highlight from Stevie Wonder's Season 8 SNL episode is when he appeared in a sketch alongside Eddie Murphy (who had portrayed the musician a few times before) as an aspiring Stevie Wonder impersonator seeking his help to perfect his impression. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter also performed "Overjoyed" that night "Go Home."

Ariana Grande

For her second appearance on SNL in Season 41, Ariana Grande pulled double duty in more than one way. In addition to performing "Dangerous Woman" and "Be Alright" between sketches, one bit saw her demonstrate her impeccable ability for musical impersonations as a Tidal intern who must help when the music streaming platform loses power.

Elton John

Elton John first appeared on SNL as a musical guest on an episode hosted by fellow musician Johnny Cash in 1982 before returning 29 years later to both host and perform songs with Leon Russell from their album, The Union. In addition to the Grammy-winning headliner, it was a pretty star-studded night at Studio 8H, with cameos by Carmelo Anthony, Will Forte, Tom Hanks and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Miley Cyrus

Twice, Miley Cyrus got to be the best of both worlds on SNL. In Season 39, she poked fun at her VMAs performance with Robin Thicke and sang "Wrecking Ball" and "We Can't Stop" and, two years later, was joined by The Flaming Lips" to perform "Karen Don't Be Sad" after an introduction by special guest Hillary Clinton.

Justin Timberlake

Qualified to join SNL's Five-Timers Club both for his hosting and musical performances is Justin Timberlake, who debuted on the show with N*SYNC before pulling double duty for the first of multiple times on October 11, 2003. The pop star and actor has contributed to some of the show's most iconic musical sketches, including three awesome SNL Digital Shorts alongside Andy Samberg as a crass R&B duo.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has appeared at Studio 8H multiple times, acquiring a number of musical guest gigs and a few jaw-dropping SNL cameos under her belt, since becoming one of the most famous people in the world. In Season 35, she showed up for the second time as a musical guest (singing "You Belong With Me" and "Untouchable") and the first time as a host, appearing in a funny fake trailer for a Twilight rip-off called Firelight, among other sketches.

Paul Simon

No one has appeared on SNL as both the host and musical guest more times than Paul Simon, who also became the first to pull double duty on the show's second episode ever before coming back to do it three more times. The singer-songwriter was also the first person to join the Five-Timers Club by musical performances alone.

Chance The Rapper

In addition to being one of the most innovative hip-hop artists of his time, Chance the Rapper proved that he can act and has some impeccable comedic timing the multiple times he has hosted SNL. The second time, in Season 45, he also served as the musical guest and was joined by Megan Thee Stallion for a performance of "Handsome."

Kris Kristofferson

In July 1976, months before leading A Star is Born with Barbra Streisand, singer and actor Kris Kristofferson both sang and acted as an SNL headliner. He was joined by his then-wife Rita Coolidge for "Eddie the Eunuch" and later performed "I've Got a Life of My Own" on his own.

Debbie Harry

The frontwoman for Blondie performed solo on the Valentine's Day episode of SNL's sixth season, which she also hosted. Between sketches, Debbie Harry sang "Love TKO" and "Come Back Jonee" before introducing additional musical guest Funky 4 + 1's "That's The Joint," which became the first rap song performed on television that night.

Garth Brooks

Garth Brooks first served as both host and musical guest on SNL in the show's 23rd season, during which he appeared in sketch where he falls for Chris Kattan's Mango. The country music singer returned to pull double duty a year later but performed his musical numbers as his rock star alter ego, Chris Gaines.

Dolly Parton

For her sole SNL appearance, Dolly Parton hosted and sang in Season 14. The country music legend appeared in multiple comedic bits poking fun at her chest size and performed a couple of tracks from her 1989 album, White Limozeen.

Willie Nelson

February 21, 1987, marked Willie Nelson's second SNL appearance as a musical guest and sole hosting appearance. The influential "outlaw country" legend, who had done some acting before and has acted plenty of times since, was a great fit for the gig and even performed a song with then-cast member Victoria Jackson.

Drake

Before he became one of the most successful rap artists of his time, Drake (née Aubrey Graham) was an actor, best known for his starring role on the Canadian coming-of-age drama, Degrassi: The Next Generation. He reminded audiences that his acting talents have not waned when, after performing as a musical guest in 2011, he returned to SNL to serve double duty in 2014 and again two years later.

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish became the first person born in the 21st Century to host SNL when she appeared in the Season 47 Christmas episode, which was met with much acclaim despite her not being able to stop laughing in a few sketches. The Grammy and Oscar winner's parents introduced her and her brother Finneas' performance of "Happier Than Ever" before they later returned to perform "Male Fantasy."

Halsey

Before lending her voice to Sing 2 and appearing in the A24 horror movie MaXXXine, Halsey was considered a non-actor who nailed her SNL hosting gig from Season 44. The self-professed fan of the show was a hilarious standout in sketches and also wowed audiences with her musical performances, such as when she painted a full portrait while singing "Eastside."

Ray Charles

Before making a cameo in, arguably, the best movie based on an SNL character, 1980's The Blues Brothers, Ray Charles headlined the fifth episode of the show's third season. The influential musical genius was surprisingly good and sketches and unsurprisingly shined with his performances of "I Can See Clearly Now," "What I'd Say," "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning," and "I Can't Stop Loving You."

Olivia Newton-John

Having gained international fame from playing Sandy in Grease, there was no question that Olivia Newton-John would be a great fit on SNL as both a host and musical guest. The Australian singer and actor actually appeared in a parody of the 1978 musical movie classic when she took the stage for the Season 7 finale, during which she also performed songs from her hit album, Physical.

Frank Zappa

Frank Zappa's hosting duties in SNL's third season were largely seen as a disaster, due to his tendency to go off-script, which is said to be why he never appeared on the show again. However, his performances of "Dancin' Fool," "The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing," and "Rollo" with the Mothers of Invention should still be recognized as highlights of that night.

Quincy Jones

In SNL's 15th season, influential music producer Quincy Jones made his sole appearance on the show as a host and musical guest. However, notably, he was not the only musical guest to appear that night, seen performing "Back On The Block," "The Verb To Be," and "Wee B. Dooinit" with the likes of Take 6, Tevin Campbell, Andrae Crouch, Sandra Crouch, Kool Moe Dee, Big Daddy Kane, Melle Mel, Quincy D III, Siedah Garrett, and Al Jarreau.

Sting

Sting is qualified for the Five-Timers Club with his number of SNL appearances as the musical guest – one of which, in Season 16, also saw him headline as the host. The one-time Police frontman would later return to host the show again in 1997 but with musical guest Veruca Salt.

Harry Styles

In November 2019, Harry Styles made his debut as an SNL host on a night that also saw his induction into the Five-Timers Club as a musical guest. The English singer and actor had previously appeared three times with the boy band One Direction and once as a solo artist in 2017.

Gary Busey

Following his Oscar-nominated performance as the late, eponymous rock 'n roll pioneer in 1978's The Buddy Holly Story, Gary Busey made his sole appearance on SNL as a host. The actor also performed the song "Stay All Night" as one of three musical guests for that episode, the other two being Gregory Hines and Eubie Blake.

Bruno Mars

As he mentioned in his opening monologue, Bruno Mars had no prior acting experience (unless you count his cinematic debut as "Little Elvis" in Honeymoon in Vegas) before appearing as a host in Season 38 of SNL. Nevertheless, he proved to be a fantastic comedic actor in an episode that was also graced with a cameo by Tom Hanks, who showed up to introduce the pop star's performance of "Locked Out of Heaven."

Desi Arnaz

Desi Arnaz used to perform music and comedy on an almost regular basis when starring in the classic TV sitcom, I Love Lucy, as Ricky Ricardo. Therefore, appearing on SNL as both the host and musical guest (alongside his son, Desi Arnaz Jr.) should have been a breeze for the Cuban-born performer.

Lizzo

Lizzo's second appearance on SNL as a musical guest (for which she performed "About Damn Time" and "Special") was also her first time hosting the series. In her Season 47 episode, she proved to be a natural – especially in one sketch as a flutist who cannot play a note with twerking in unison – but also got a few cases of the giggles, endearingly so.

Art Garfunkel

Following his appearances with his one-time singing partner, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel went solo on March 11, 1978, as the host and musical guest. In addition to his performances of "All I Know," "Scarborough Fair," and "Crying in My Sleep," he was joined by Stephen Bishop for "Wonderful World."

Lily Tomlin

For her first hosting gig, on the sixth episode of SNL's first season, comedy icon Lily Tomlin also filled in as the musical guest, performing "St. James Infirmary" with Howard Shore & the All Nurse Band. In what would now be considered a controversial SNL moment if it was not largely forgotten, Tomlin would return to pull double duty in Season 8 but, for her musical performances, donned blackface to play a male R&B singer character named Pervis Hawkins.

Fan casting. Sometimes it works incredibly well, as when DC audiences lobbied hard for Ben Affleck to step into the role of Batman, or when Ryan Reynolds made good on the promise of Henry Cavill playing Wolverine, even if it was only for a cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine. Other times, the fan casting fizzles, or falls apart before it can even come to fruition. The idea of Harry Styles in Eternals, or all of the talk of Taylor Swift playing Dazzler, come to mind when you bring that up. But a name keeps getting mentioned for the upcoming Marvel movie based on the X-Men, and believe it or not, I think it’s a perfect idea.

The X-Men movie has not been dated yet, though given the return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, a full team movie seems to be on the horizon. And on the Internet, I keep seeing calls for one-time Disney Channel star and current music sensation Miley Cyrus to take over the part of Rogue in a live-action X-Men movie.

And I think she’d be perfect.

Some Marvel heroes are blank canvases on which anyone can paint. Captain America could have been played a few different ways, and still conveyed the gist of the character. The X-Men are not that way. Each mutant hero on the team comes with his or her own unique personalities and quirks – Rogue, specifically. She’s powerful, but sensitive. She’s headstrong, and sassy. She SOUNDS a specific way, and Miley Cyrus captures that with her raspy voice, Southern lilt, and fierce delivery. It’s like Keith Urban said about Miley Cyrus one time: Her voice sounds like an ashtray, and that’s a compliment. Voice actor Lenore Zann nailed it in the animated X-Men ‘97. These clips give me severe Miley Cyrus vibes.

Maybe it’s because she was Hannah Montana, or part of the High School Musical series, or the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus, so people don’t want to take Miley Cyrus seriously. She certainly marches to the beat of her own drum, and generates headlines for her fashion choices and general celebrity exploits. But were she to commit to a major Hollywood role, I think she’d be magnificent as Rogue. She has a confidence, an attitude, and a sass that fits Rogue to a tee.

One other thing going in Cyrus’s corner? She’s 32. That’s the ideal age for a franchise trying to cast up, because Marvel Studios will want their actors to stay in character for at least a decade, if not longer. The MCU can’t keep relying on 59-year-old Robert Downey Jr., 76-year-old Samuel L. Jackson, 56-year-old Hugh Jackman, or even 43-year-old Chris Evans to bear the weight of the comic universe. It’s time for younger blood. I think we are poised to see it when the new X-Men of the MCU are united. And I’d personally love to see Miley Cyrus in the Rogue role, as several Marvel fans have lobbied.

Keke Palmer had a child star experience like few others. Compared to the common trope of growing up in the entertainment industry at a young age leading to rehab or public scandals, Palmer didn't go through any of that during her childhood. Her movies and TV shows have shown what a talented, strong force she is making a name for herself. The former Nickelodeon actress means “no disrespect” in getting honest about what she experienced as a child star compared to contemporaries like Miley Cyrus and others.

Being a child star certainly isn’t easy balancing a professional career at such a young age with the responsibility of your own well-being and the growth of your personal brand. So many exploitive documentaries like Quiet on Set and Demi Lovato’s Child Star have presented the darker side of being a young starlet and the long-term effects that can have on growing up. Fortunately for Keke Palmer, her experiences in the industry were separate from other child stars as she gets real with The Cut about not being pushed into anything inappropriate by network execs:

Looking at your career from your own perspective instead of comparing yourself to others is, indeed, a great way to survive in what can be an “exploitative” industry. Keke Palmer showed her superb acting talents at the age of 12 leading one of the best family-friendly movies Akeelah and the Bee about overcoming the hurdles of being a Scripps National Spelling Bee contestant. We were able to see the actress’s depth, charm, and emotional range as she brought Akeelah Anderson’s personal struggles and perseverance to life.

After taking on supporting roles in films like Madea’s Family Reunion and Cleaner, Keke Palmer’s career came in full force in the underrated Nickelodeon show True Jackson, VP about a teenager offered Vice President of the Youth Fashion Design Department of Mad Style. The Barbershop 2 actress said this leading role resonated with her the most in playing an independent teen who climbed up the corporate ladder just like she did in real life. However, the actress/singer said her experiences being a young Black woman in Hollywood weren’t easy for her compared to white child stars with their own shows like Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and more:

That’s truly heartbreaking that Keke Palmer’s success was unfairly labeled as “the Black girl on the network” which separated her success from others. Shows like Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, and Victorious were a hit with young audiences. At the same time, Palmer became the fourth highest-paid child star on television because of True Jackson, VP. She even received four NAACP Image Awards for her performance and approved the designs of a Walmart fashion line based on the sitcom. By any standard, those are genuine triumphs that can’t be ignored.

Back when the media was constantly comparing Keke Palmer’s career to former Disney star Zendaya, the Jump In! actress was quick to clap back about her own accomplishments from the Euphoria actress. Palmer said she’d rather people acknowledge her for being the first Black woman to star in a Nickelodeon show, the youngest and first Black woman to play Cinderella on Broadway, and having over 100 acting credits to her name since she was 11. The Winx Club voice actress continued to speak about the importance of being incomparable:

With Keke Palmer refusing to compare herself to her white peers, she’s boldly recognizing not only the biases that come with being a Black woman in Hollywood but proudly pointing out the successful career she’s created. While it was hard for Palmer to secure roles after True Jackson, VP went off the air in 2011, she still completed plenty of career milestones like being added to the cast of Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens, her first hosting gig with Password, starring in Jordan Peele’s Nope, and the producer of KeyTV which aims to present opportunities for Black talent in front or behind the camera.

Keke Palmer also has her new movie with SZA called One of Them Days about two friends on a race to make rent. With the buddy comedy having been in development for the past five years, Palmer also served as executive producer making sure the script resonated with the central theme of community among economic change. Plus, you can’t forget she’s very busy “mommy-ing” her firstborn child, Leodias. As you can see, the Daytime Emmy nominee has plenty in her schedule to help her continue to be victorious.

There really is no comparing Keke Palmer’s career to other former child actresses who were around during her prime. The Screen Actors Guild nominee has proven herself to be a pro taking on big silver screen roles before becoming a lead on a Nickelodeon show. Her determination to set herself apart and be in control of her own career are truly inspirational qualities for the masses to look up to.

Even 20 years after the debut of Hannah Montana, it still feels like Miley Cyrus was the perfect fit for that role. She and the fictional character were practically synonymous and in many ways, still are today. So finding out that a different Disney Channel veteran was not only up for the part but essentially had the job is completely jarring to me. Also, to know that it was one half of an iconic sisterly musical duo, both of who were child stars and still in the industry today is what's really blowing my mind.

Sisters and musical duo, Aly & AJ (Michalka) were two staples of Disney Channel's early 2000s era. Not only did their music videos regularly appear on the channel, but they also co-starred in the original movie Cow Belles. Aly, for her part, was also one of the cast members on the Disney sitcom Phil of the Future. While the Michalkas were guests on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the Easy A alum was asked about the rumor of her being up for the lead role on Hannah Montana, and she had this to say:

It’s crazy to think that Aly Michalka could’ve been the name attached to Hannah Montana. Gary Marsh and co. were smart to tap the Hellcats actress, since they already knew her and were aware of her abilities as an actress as well. Michalka also beat out two actresses for HM -- Daniella Monet and Taylor Momsen. Presented with those three options, though, I think Michalka was the right choice.

The now-35-year-old singer explained that possible confusion on viewers' parts wasn't her only reason for turning down the gig. She shared that while she was in talks for Hannah Montana, she wanted to know if there’d be a space for sister AJ Michalka. While the execs offered a specific role, it just didn't sit well with either sibling:

The thought of Aly & AJ taking on one of the most beloved House of Mouse-produced shows in existence is just so wild. It’s hard for me to imagine how they would've performed compared to Miley Cyrus and Emily Osment. I do understand why the iZombie actress wanted to move on though, as it was only natural that she'd want to expand beyond children’s programming. Plus, Hannah Montana ended up being a hit, which is why some may now wonder if it'll become another classic Disney Channel original series that gets revived. Though I doubt Miley Cyrus, who has love for Hannah, would return.

The world of casting can be tricky, and each decade has their fair share of "what if" stories, with the Mouse Ears station being no exception. If Hannah Montana starred Aly Michalka, it could’ve been completely different. Still, considering how everything played out, I'd say it was all for the best.

2024 was the year the “Wrecking Ball” songstress finally got her first two Grammy wins, courtesy of her empowering anthem “Flowers” off her 8th studio album Endless Summer Vacation. So, while I’m sure the last few moments of this year were a nonstop party for the newly minted Grammy winner, the “Party In The U.S.A.” singer didn’t miss the chance to pen a candid and honest message on Instagram, paired with a stunning leather-clad portrait:

Of course, Miley Cyrus has always been one to speak her mind. She’s not afraid to do what she wants, as she clearly demonstrated in the Bangerz era atop that Wrecking Ball. Yet, despite an emotional divorce from Liam Hemsworth (which supposedly was the inspiration behind “Flowers”) and a strained relationship with her father Billy Ray Cyrus, the “Angels Like You” singer seems more at peace than ever.

She's also ready to move forward to what's next, as she wrote:

It truly has been a journey, from the early days of Hannah Montana to one of the last true rockstars left in modern mainstream pop.

Seriously, if her Grammy performance proved anything, it showed us that no one is doing rockstar quite like Miley Cyrus. The big hair, the makeup, the gold safety pin dress, the powerful, husky voice with insane range, and of course the iconic ad-libs. She absolutely stole the show, and dare I say, this is the Miley Cyrus we’ve all been waiting for.

As someone who has watched her grow through all her different eras into the bold and beautiful woman she is today, I am so proud of her journey. Judging from the comments on her end-of-year post, everyone else is too. Not everyone recovers from the trials and tribulations of being a child star, but the “Jaded” songstress has certainly come into her own and appears to be thriving.

I’m excited to see what 2025 brings for Cyrus, and I hope it is just as fruitful as 2024.

The Masked Singer Season 12 was back on track this week after eliminating a contestant the previous week who didn't know she'd be singing on the show. Another contestant was unmasked, and as sad as I was to see Ice King bouncing (after being revealed as actor Drake Bell), I couldn't get over the elephant in the room surrounding "Miley Cyrus Night." Panelist Robin Thicke has a big TV connection to the Grammy-winning singer that could've been further acknowledged, but I can understand why the show wasn't keen on bringing it up.

For those in the dark, I'm referring to the 2013 VMA performance where Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke shared the stage for a performance. Let's get into how the show acknowledged the moment and likely avoided giving it a better spotlight.

How The Masked Singer Briefly Acknowledged Robin Thicke's Performance With Miley Cyrus

Robin Thicke had a chance to take the spotlight on Miley Cyrus Night and maybe even make a moment bigger than when he and Ken Jeong walked off the stage in The Masked Singer Season 7. Much to my initial surprise, when Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg opened up the conversation for him to comment on the infamous VMAs performance, Thicke played it off and said the following:

The moment made for a big laugh from the crowd and the panel, but then it wasn't referenced for the rest of the episode. I initially found this strange, considering what a major zeitgeist spectacle it was, but after revisiting some of the aftermath of that performance, it's pretty clear why Robin Thicke and The Masked Singer didn't want to dwell on it.

Why It's For The Best The Masked Singer Left It Out Of The Episode

While the 2013 VMAs may feel like a moment that the world laughed at, it was a bad experience for Miley Cyrus. The singer has talked in past years about how it kept her from wearing shorts, and though she's reclaimed some of that confidence from the foam finger performance, she still seems to feel as if she was needlessly sexualized on the stage.

Despite any acceptance she may feel now, I can see why it would still be in bad taste for The Masked Singer to dwell too much on that moment with only half of the performing parties present to speak about it. And it's not like Robin Thicke didn't have other scandalous things happening surrounding the song "Blurred Lines."

Thicke wants to stay on TMS for a long time, so remaining as noncontroversial as possible in his opinions and career references can only help him remain on the panel.

Being a Saturday Night Live musical guest makes you popular. Performing on the show a second time makes you beloved. Performing on the great sketch comedy TV show three times or more just might make you a legend. That’s how we would describe the following 32 pop stars, rock bands, and masters of the rhyme who have brought the house down at Studio 8H as memorable SNL musical guests on multiple occasions.

Billy Joel

The "Piano Man" himself first performed at Studio 8H in Season 3 on an episode hosted by Chevy Chase, which was also the first time the short-lived SNL cast member came back to host. After a return in 1981, Billy Joel's third time on the show was eight years later in 1989, which saw him perform "We Didn't Start the Fire."

Foo Fighters

Following two appearances with Nirvana and a third as an impromptu drummer for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Dave Grohl made his SNL debut as frontman of Foo Fighters in December 1995, a year after the release of their debut album. The rock band (which has gone through a vast rotation of members since) also performed with Mick Jagger as special guests in 2012 and some of the best SNL sketches featuring musicians have involved Grohl.

Miley Cyrus

Having become famous as a TV star (while leading Disney Channel's Hannah Montana) before her music career really took off, it makes sense that Miley Cyrus made her SNL debut as a host in 2011 before returning as both host and musical guest two years later. Some of the Grammy winner's most notable performances on the show include the SNL 40th Anniversary Special and a pre-taped rendition of "Wish You Were Here" that aired during the Covid-era "SNL At Home" days.

Justin Timberlake

A celebrity who qualifies for SNL's Five-Timers Club as both a host and musical guest is Justin Timberlake, who might be one of the best SNL hosts we have ever seen for that matter. His first time performing music on the show, however, was in 2000 with NSYNC but some of his especially memorable musical moments on the show have been his raunchy collaborations with Andy Samberg.

Coldplay

A year after releasing their hit debut album, Parachutes, in 2000, British rock band Coldplay was booked on SNL for the first of several gigs. Lead singer Chris Martin is known for appearing in a few sketches – including one of the most popular SNL clips on YouTube, in which he helps Andrew Garfield finish The Amazing Spider-Man 2's kissing scene – and performed solo for the first Covid-era "At Home" episode.

Beyoncé

If you include her two appearances as part of Destiny's Child and her special guest appearance alongside her husband, Jay-Z, Beyoncé has performed on SNL five times between 2001 and 2008. She also appeared in a sketch offering a humorous dramatization of the making of the "Single Ladies" video and has been impersonated countless times by SNL and Groundlings alum Maya Rudolph.

Randy Newman

The second-ever episode of SNL marked the show's first appearance by Randy Newman, who would perform five more times up until 1988. The singer-songwriter would expand his audience when he wrong captivating, award-nominated songs for several beloved Pixar movies, including Toy Story's "You Got a Friend in Me."

Eminem

Most of Eminem's many SNL performances have been collaborative efforts. For instance, the rapper made his 1999 debut on the show with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, performed "Stan" with Dido the following year, and would bring Skylar Grey along for two separate occasions – for "Survival" in 2013 and a medley of "Walk on Water," "Stan," and "Love the Way You Lie" in 2017.

Taylor Swift

Any of the several times that Taylor Swift has appeared at Studio 8H has been a notable occasion. This not only includes her many appearances as a musical guest (the second of which doubled as a hosting gig) but also her jaw-dropping SNL cameos, such as her impromptu introduction of Ice Spice in the Season 49 premiere.

Paul Simon

No one has appeared on SNL as a musical guest more times than Paul Simon, who was also one of several performers when he hosted the show's second ever episode. Many of his 15 gigs (as of 2018) were shared with musicians like George Harrison, his wife Edie Brickell, and Alicia Keys.

Rihanna

Surprisingly, it was not until 2009 when Rihanna made her SNL debut, featuring guest Young Jeezy for her performance of "Hard." She would go on to show up at Studio 8H several more time, two of which saw her appear in SNL Digital Shorts with Andy Samberg as "Shy Ronnie."

Sting

The Police had already broken up by the time Sting made his SNL debut in 1987. Before the end of the 20th Century, he would appear five more times, including one gigs doubling as host and musical guest and another as just the host, featuring performances by Veruca Salt.

Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire had the pleasure of performing alongside Mick Jagger as special guests when the Rolling Stones frontman hosted in 2012, which we will also count as their third SNL gig. The indie rock outfit has also appeared in a few sketches, such as an SNL Digital Shorts and a game show-style bit challenging host Tina Fey to guess who is a new cast member or a member of the band.

Jack White

On the same night Woody Harrelson was inducted into the Five-Timers Club, Jack White was also given a robe for preforming on SNL for the fifth time in February 2023. This would include when he made his debut in 2002, billed alongside former bandmate Meg White as The White Stripes.

Leon Redbone

Before his death in 2019, Leon Redbone appeared as a musical guest on SNL four times, first in 1976 and lastly in 1983. While the blues musician would go on to do some acting, such as voicing Leon the Snowman in the 2003 Christmas movie classic, Elf, he never appeared in any sketches during any of his visits to Studio 8H.

Linda Ronstadt

After making her Studio 8H debut in a cold open cameo in 1977, Linda Ronstadt would first perform on SNL two years later with co-musical guest Phoebe Snow. She shared her next three gigs with the cast of The Pirates of Penzance in 1980, The Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán in 1987, and Aaron Neville in 1989.

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

Rock and roll icons Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performed on SNL eight times. The last time was in 2010 – for which Petty appeared in an SNL Digital Short opposite Andy Samberg and host Alec Baldwin – before the frontman's death in 2017.

Bonnie Raitt

As of 1994, Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer Bonnie Raitt has been an SNL musical guest four times. Her debut was in 1978 but the three subsequent appearance would all occur in the early 1990s.

Aerosmith

Despite breaking out a few years before SNL premiered, Aerosmith would not appear on the show until 1990, when they also starred in a legendary "Wayne's World" segment with Tom Hanks as Barry, their roadie. The rock quartet would perform on the show three more times, the last occurring in 2001.

Neil Young

A surprising late bloomer to SNL is Neil Young, who made his debut in 1989 after being impersonated by Dana Carvey a couple of years earlier. The folk singer and part-time Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young member returned for his third time more than a decade later in 2000.

Mariah Carey

One of the most esteemed pop divas of her generation, Mariah Carey, first appeared on SNL as a musical guest in 1990. Her fourth time, in 2008, saw her joined by T-Pain for a performance of "Migrate."

Beck

After his 1993 hit single "Loser" made him a star, Beck debuted on SNL in 1997. This was the first of several appearance for the alt rock hero, the second of which saw him act in a sketch framed as a Behind the Music episode about Fat Albert & the Junkyard Gang.

Maroon 5

Pop rock band Maroon 5 made their first of several appearances in 2004, shortly after making their mainstream breakthrough. Frontman Adam Levine (also known as a judge on NBC's The Voice) has also appeared on the show solo to host in 2013 and join Kanye West in a performance of "Heard 'Em Say" in 2005.

Prince

Unless you count his performance of "Electric Chair" at SNL's 15th Anniversary Special in 1989, Prince was only a musical guest on the show three times. However, after his untimely death in 2016, the show aired a special featuring clips of all his Studio 8H sets, highlights of the recurring "Prince Show" sketches featuring Fred Armisen as the pop star, and anecdotes shared by host Jimmy Fallon.

Natalie Merchant

Natalie Merchant's first two appearances on SNL were as the lead singer of the indie rock group 10,000 Maniacs in the late '80s and early '90s. Her two subsequent gigs as a musical guest occurred in 1995 and 1998 after she had gone solo.

Justin Bieber

Following his breakthrough as a teen pop sensation, Justin Bieber made his SNL debut at 16 years old in a 2010 episode which also saw him participate in a sketch with host Tina Fey. The Canadian artist went on to double as host and musical guest for his second gig in 2013 and also made a few unexpected cameos, such as in a Church Lady revival from 2011 and in 2012 for the 100th SNL Digital Short.

Lizzo

Lizzo made her Studio 8H debut in a big way, performing as the musical guest on an episode hosted by the legendary Eddie Murphy making an epic SNL return in 2019. A couple years later, she returned as both musical guest and host and, while she could not stop laughing during some sketches, she was pretty stone-faced for a bit that demonstrated her talent for simultaneously twerking and playing the flute.

Green Day

Green Day emerged as one of the biggest bands of the '90s but would only perform on the SNL once during that decade. The punk trio would, however, return twice more during the 2000s, first following the success of their Grammy-winning album, American Idiot, in 2005 and again in 2009 to promote 21st Century Breakdown.

Billie Eilish

A non-actor who killed it at as an SNL host for the first time in 2021 is Billie Eilish, who also served as a musical guest for her second time that night. The Grammy and Oscar-winning pop sensation has gone on to participate in sketches in her subsequent appearances as well, such as when she joined Barbie cast member Kate McKinnon for a music video for the Season 49 Christmas show.

James Taylor

James Taylor had the rare opportunity to perform three songs in multiple episodes: when he made his SNL debut in 1976 and both times he appeared in the '90s. He would also play a song during host Michael Palin's monologue in 1979 and once served as a co-host and co-musical guest with Paul Simon in 1980.

Jay-Z

Jay-Z qualifies for this list by his solo appearances as an SNL musical guest alone. However, he has taken the stage at Studio 8H for a few special appearances, such as when he joined wife, Beyoncé, for "Crazy in Love" in 2003 and when he performed his rap on Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie" in 2013.

Kanye West

Kanye West's debut SNL performance in October 2005 was preceded by a cameo by Mike Myers, reference their awkward appearance together at a telethon benefitting victims of Hurricane Katrina. He would later be joined by Pusha T to perform "Runaway" for his fourth gig and memorably performed "I Love It" with Lil Pump dressed as water bottles for his seventh appearance in a 2018 episode that would end in controversy when the rapper went on an unexpected political tirade.

Keith Urban has enjoyed a long and successful career as a country music star, and even as he continues to tour and put out albums, he has paid it forward to aspiring artists as a former judge on American Idol and a coach on The Voice Australia. All of a sudden, though, I’m curious about the feedback he gave to artists on those singing competitions, after the “compliment” he just paid Miley Cyrus. Urban was asked about the “Party in the U.S.A.” singer on a podcast and described her voice as sounding like an ashtray.

As strange as it sounds, that’s exactly what happened, and it was meant to be a good thing. Keith Urban visited the Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie podcast, where he sang a bit of Miley Cyrus’ empowering yet heartbreaking hit song “Flowers”. The hosts asked him his opinion of Cyrus’ music, to which Urban replied:

I can’t say I’m personally familiar with an RSL carpet, but Keith Urban sure does paint a picture, doesn’t he? Describing Miley Cyrus’ voice as an ashtray or sticky carpet just shows why he’s such a successful songwriter, because being able to come up with those similes off the top of his head is quite a gift.

The thing is, he’s not wrong either. Miley Cyrus has always had a gravelly tone that sets her apart from other pop singers, and that’s definitely one of the things her fans love about her. Keith Urban's choice of phrase was definitely out there, but I totally buy it as a compliment.

There’s another singer with ties to American Idol who must love that ashtray/crunchy carpet sound, and that is Kelly Clarkson. She’s been known to cover Miley Cyrus’ songs during the “Kellyoke” segments of her talk show, and in fact, it’s happened so often that Cyrus apparently called Clarkson out when they ran into each other at the Grammys. Hopefully the Hannah Montana alum saw it as a sign of respect — just as I hope she takes the “ashtray” comment in the way it was intended.

There seems to be a lot of positive opinions about Miley Cyrus in the American Idol world. While the safety pin-clad fashionista has served as a coach on The Voice, current Idol judge Luke Bryan said Cyrus was one of the major pop stars who was considered to join ABC’s singing competition as Katy Perry’s replacement.

Carrie Underwood ended up getting that gig, and Keith Urban had a sweet take on that situation, too, calling the Season 4 winner “perfect” because as a former contestant herself, she brings a perspective that neither Lionel Richie nor Luke Bryan can provide.

That may be true, but she’s no ashtray.

While the list of A-listers who have joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe is long and diverse, another list that’s worth looking into is the wild group of actors, performers and others who have said yes to doing cameos. So, in celebration of those folks, here are the 32 best cameos in the MCU. 

Harry Styles As Eros In The Eternals 

Big names pop up in the MCU all the time, however, they’re almost always well-known actors. While Harry Styles has had a few acting roles, it’s not his primary profession, so yes, it was shocking when the singer showed up as Eros, Thanos’ brother, in the post-credits scene of The Eternals. However, since the film’s release in 2021, Styles’ future in the MCU has remained unknown, leaving his role as simply a cameo and nothing more.  

Blake Lively As Lady Deadpool In Deadpool & Wolverine 

Leading into Deadpool & Wolverine’s release, the speculation about who would play Lady Deadpool was running rampant. However, it wasn’t all too shocking when it was revealed that Ryan Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively was playing the female variant of her partner’s merc with the mouth.  

Sam Neill As Odin’s Actor In Thor: Ragnarok 

While the Thor: Ragnarok cast is stacked with legends like Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Mark Ruffalo, Jeff Goldblum and more, Taika Waititi also assembled quite the ensemble of cameos to play a troupe of actors in Asgard who put on a play about Thor and his family. This included Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill, who portrayed Anthony Hopkins’ King of Asgard, Odin.  

Stan Lee As Various Characters 

While future MCU projects sadly won’t have any in-person Stan Lee cameos, we can always re-watch the Marvel movies in order to see the legendary comic writer. Before his death in 2018, Stan Lee made cameos in just about every Marvel project, whether it was from Marvel Studios, Fox or Sony. 

Some fan-favorite cameos from him included his role as a security guard in Captain America: The Winter Solider, a New York resident being interviewed on the news in The Avengers and an astronaut telling a story to the Watchers in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, among many, many, many others. 

Matt Damon As Loki’s Actor In Thor: Ragnarok 

In the play Loki orchestrated in Thor: Ragnarok that tells the (not so true) story of him and his family, Matt Damon was cast to play the role of Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief. Which honestly, is inspired casting. Damon also popped in the non-MCU Deadpool 2. 

Kevin Bacon As Himself In Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Bringing a joke from Guardians of the Galaxy full circle almost eight years later, Peter’s hero Kevin Bacon finally appears. However, it’s kind of against his will, because Drax and Mantis decide to go to Earth and steal the Footloose actor to give to Chris Pratt’s character as a gift of holiday cheer.

When Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill was a kid he’d pretend that David Hasselhoff was his dad. So, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Hasselhoff was part of one of the songs on the soundtrack – “Guardians Inferno” –  and it plays during the end credits. And at the very end of those credits, you can see his face pop up as he says the final words of the song. Talk about an epic cameo.

Brett Goldstein As Hercules In Thor: Love and Thunder

In the post-credit scene for Thor: Love and Thunder, Brett Goldstein appeared as Hercules. In his brief scene, he was shown speaking with Russell Crowe’s Zeus. It was thrilling to see the Ted Lasso star show up as the son of Zeus, however, it’s been years since that happened, and he hasn’t shown up again. 

Ken Jeong As Security Guard In Avengers: Endgame

Before the Russo Brothers were making big fancy Marvel movies, they worked on Community. So, it’s always fun to see actors from that show pop up in the MCU. For example in Avengers: Endgame, Ken Jeong appeared for a quick cameo as a security guard who is watching over the storage unit that Ant-Man’s van is in. 

Nathan Fillion As Monstrous Inmate In Guardians of the Galaxy And Headpool In Deadpool And Wolverine

You can see Nathan Fillion (looking like himself) as a major member of the supporting cast in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as he plays Master Karja. However, before that, he had a cameo in James Gunn’s first Guardians movie, because he voiced “Monstrous Inmate.” After that, he voiced Headpool during the Deadpool variant fight in Deadpool and Wolverine. 

Brad Pitt As The Vanisher In Deadpool 2

Now, I fully realize Deadpool 2 wasn’t technically in the MCU, but Deadpool and Wolverine is, so this counts. One of the most fun cameos maybe ever came when Brad Pitt appeared for a split second in the Ryan Reynolds-led sequel to play The Vanisher right as he gets electrocuted. 

Joe Russo As Grieving Man In Avengers: Endgame

Joe and Anthony Russo are best known as the guys behind the camera who led some of the best Marvel movies, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and, of course, Avengers: Endgame. So, in this big finale for the MCU’s Infinity Saga, Joe Russo made a cameo as part of Steve Rogers' support group. 

Yvette Nicole Brown As S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent In Avengers: Endgame

The Russo Brothers didn’t forget their roots, and included multiple members of the Community cast in their Marvel movies. This included Yvette Nicole Brown, who played a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that Tony Stark and Steve Rogers run into when they go back in time to steal Pym Particles.

David Bradley is a legendary British character actor, and you’ll likely recognize him for his role as Filch in the Harry Potter cast or as The Doctor in various episodes of Doctor Who. As you can see the range of these cameos is wide, and frankly legendary. And we’re sure that as Marvel continues to release movies and TV shows, the iconic cameos will keep coming. 

It’s very difficult to stand out in the morning talk show game, but sometime The Voice coach Kelly Clarkson has managed to do just that. Her show has won multiple awards since debuting in 2019, and one of the reasons the series is so popular is because it has set itself apart with its ever-popular Kellyoke segments. The “Because of You” singer is now known for putting her own spin on the songs of other popular artists, and just opened up about the time she ran into Miley Cyrus at the Grammys and she called her out for all the covers of her music.

What Did Kelly Clarkson Say About Miley Cyrus And Her Kellyoke Comments?

Despite the fact that Kelly Clarkson has a real tardiness problem, there are likely few music or daytime talk show fans who wouldn't wait to see the star do things like open up about what weight gain means in Hollywood, go day drinking with Seth Meyers or even admit to peeing in the shower. But, one thing that people really enjoy is listening to her renditions of songs that others have made famous during Kellyoke performances on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Apparently, though, she got called out by Miley Cyrus while attending the Grammy Awards, and revealed:

As a dutiful singer/songwriter Clarkson always chooses great music to cover and gives props to the artist who originally performed her Kellyoke songs, so I doubt that the safety pin dress-wearing Grammy winner has any real problems with the talk show host covering her famous tunes. In fact, if anything, it just opens a new avenue for potential fans to discover Cyrus’ music.

Although, there is the possibility that the “Flowers” songstress was joking about the idea that she’s starting to get a bit worried that Clarkson is singing her songs better than she ever could, which is what happened recently when Katy Perry responded after Clarkson covered her hit, “Wide Awake” to an extremely impressive degree. Mmmmmhmmm…Look, we all know that Ms. Kelly can sang, OK? It’s why she won the first season of American Idol all those years ago and has been able to release numerous beloved, award-winning hits since then. It’s why her fellow The Voice coach John Legend would want to join forces with her on a double-chair season. Hell, it’s also why superstar country singer Keith Urban asked if Clarkson would be willing to “take requests” after she covered “Somebody Like You” on her show. Kelly Clarkson has pipes that rock the mic, and no one can deny it.

If you grew up watching Disney Channel during the 2000s, then chances are you remember the occasional crossover specials involving some of the network’s biggest sitcoms. One of the most notable mashups was 2009’s Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana, which brought together the casts of Wizards of Waverly Place, The Suite Life on Deck and Hannah Montana. The novelty of those installments was seeing the characters from each program interact with each other. Interestingly, though, Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez didn’t actually share scenes and, according to the latter’s co-star, there’s a specific reason for that.

Considering how popular Selena Gomez’s Alex Russo and Miley Cyrus’ Miley Stewart were, one would think that the producers would’ve wanted the characters to cross paths. That very well could’ve been the case, but it seems there was some behind-the-scenes drama that kept the two stars from working closely together. During the latest episode of the Wizards of Waverly Pod rewatch podcast, Jennifer Stone – who played Harper Finkle – fielded a fan question about her fellow Disney alums’ lack of shared screentime. As she put it, some “high school”-like issues seeped into the mix:

Both actresses did indeed date the Jonas Brothers member at different points in time, and all three teens received significant media attention during their respective relationships. (Nick Jonas even appeared in the poorly reviewed Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert film.) One can definitely imagine how uncomfortable that must’ve been for the two teen starlets to work together, given they once had the same beau. Despite all of that, Jennifer Stone’s sentiments suggest that it’s all water under the bridge at this point. Amid the discussion, which was shared to YouTube, the former child actress added:

The past drama that the two actresses apparently had shouldn’t tarnish your memory of the crossovers, of course. It may sound funny to say, but for younger viewers in the mid to late-2000s, they were practically appointment TV. As someone who can remember the weekend Wizard on Deck premiered, it’s wild to think that it’s been well over a decade since it aired. Surely, there are plenty of fans who feel nostalgia for the three shows involved, and fans of Wizards (which didn't always make sense) are in for even more treats.

At this time, a Wizards of Waverly Place revival is in the works, and Selena Gomez is attached as a producer. Not only that, but she’ll also reprise her role as Alex during the pilot episode. Gomez is pumped for the sequel series and, based on social media, there are plenty of millennials who are eager to see the Russo family reunite on screen. Time will tell if the show manages to recapture the magic of its predecessor.

Speaking of that classic show, it’s been interesting to hear the cast share behind-the-scenes details about the production, like the situation involving Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez. I’d say that, at this point, anyone expecting the two ladies to discuss all of that now shouldn’t hold their breath. Like Jennifer Stone said, the two are cool now, so it’s possible that they just want to let the past remain in… well, the past.

Billy Ray Cyrus’ divorce from Firerose has reignited the discourse surrounding the state of the Cyrus family’s relationships with each other. Specifically, folks are wondering how Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus are doing, and reportedly, their relationship is strained. However, apparently, that tension goes back further than this divorce that happened seven months after the country singer and his former wife tied the knot.

Reportedly, Billy Ray and Miley’s relationship is still not doing well after his split from Firerose. The two were married for seven months before they separated, and OK Magazine claimed this was an “all-time low” for the country singer.

Apparently, the “Flowers” singer hasn’t gotten along with her father since he and Tish Cyrus got divorced in 2022 after 28 years of marriage. Miley is reportedly incredibly protective of her mother, and an anonymous source claimed that she’s called her dad “a narcissist.” The source went on to say:

Things have now reportedly gotten worse between the two following the news that Billy Ray and Firerose were getting a divorce. The two got married in October 2023, and the 62-year-old filed for divorce from the 37-year-old in late May, OK reported. Per court documents, the singer cited “inappropriate marital conduct” as his reason for splitting up, and he was trying to get an “annulment on the grounds of fraud.”

The two met on the set of Hannah Montana over ten years ago, however, their romantic relationship began after Billy Ray and Tish got divorced two years ago.

Over the last few years, there have been many reports about the tension between the Cyrus family. When Tish got married to Dominic Purcell, Noah and Braison Cyrus were reportedly not there and there were rumors that there was bad blood, however, other reports suggested otherwise.

When it comes to Miley and Billy Ray’s relationship specifically, she’s been open about how fame has impacted her dad differently than her. And speculation about their rift really picked up when the pop singer didn’t name him during her Grammy acceptance speech.

Overall, things remain blurry when it comes to the two. Following the announcement of his divorce from Firerose, Billy Ray penned a sweet tribute to his daughter. Meanwhile, when Miley Cyrus’ interview on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman aired on the 2024 TV schedule (you can watch it with a Netflix subscription), she talked about her dad, saying:

She also noted that she “inherited” his “perspective on reality.” The “Wrecking Ball” singer also said in that interview that it was Tish who “raised” her, and she specifically noted that “my mom is my hero.”

So, overall, the state of Miley and Billy Ray’s relationship seems strained, however, we have not gotten explicit confirmation that that’s the case from either of them. As this situation develops, and if these two say anything about each other, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Despite a limited number of seasons and episodes, Black Mirror has, since the beginning, killed it with its casting. The Charlie Brooker-led show has landed some of the biggest stars in the world for episodes and chooses some of the best character actors from both sides of the pond as well. Daniel Kaluuya

Before Daniel Kaluuya hit the really big time with break-out roles in Get Out and Black Panther, he had a role in just the second episode of Black Mirror, called "Fifteen Million Merits." Kaluuya played a low-level bike rider looking to escape his boring life by performing in a reality TV show. It's a powerful performance and helped set the tone for the series. 

Hayley Atwell

Season 2 of  Black Mirror started with a bang, with an episode called "Be Right Back" starring Hayley Atwell and Domhnall Gleeson in a real mind-bending episode about a couple with a classic Black Mirror twist. 

Jon Hamm

In between Season 1 and Season 2, Black Mirror aired a Christmas special featuring its first big American star, Mad Men's Jon Hamm. It's a super disturbing episode in a ton of ways, not the least of which is just how evil Hamm's character turns out to be. 

Bryce Dallas Howard

Season 3 marked a big change for the show when it moved to Netflix. It also started with a band with the episode "Nosedive" starring Bryce Dallas Howard. It felt a first like a different take on the general premise of Black Mirror, being brighter and seemingly more upbeat. But that didn't last long, of course, and Howard's performance made it all work perfectly. 

Kelly MacDonald

Kelly Mac Donald isn't often the star of her projects but she is consistently excellent in everything she is in. She does star in one episode of Black Mirror, the Season 3 episode "Hated In The Nation" which is the show's take on a police procedural, with  MacDonald playing the main investigator. 

Salma Hayek

There are few stars bigger than the great Salma Hayak and her role in the episode "Joan Is Awful" in the Sixth Season is just perfect. She plays a version of herself, playing the character Joan and her no-BS attitude is just pitch-perfect. 

Jesse Plemons

The first episode of Season 4, "USS Callister" often ranks among the best episodes of Black Mirror, and a big reason why is the performances of the actors in the episode. There is no character more important than manipulative Captain Robert Daly played wonderfully by Jesse Plemons. 

Andrew Scott

Andrew Scott elevates basically everything he is in. Whether it's shows like Sherlock and Fleabag or movies like 1917, he also turns in one of the most memorable performances. Black Mirror is no exception. While the episode he appears in, "Smithereens" isn't well regarded among fans, there's no denying that Scott's performance is excellent and even earned him an Emmy nomination. 

Anthony Mackie

Anthony Mackie has never shied away from playing Gay men, with his first breakout role coming as a Gay art student in the film Brother to Brother. His role in Black Mirror wasn't quite as clear cut, as he played a man clearly struggling with his feelings and identity in the Season 5 episode "Striking Vipers." 

Kate Mara

The Season 6 episode, "Beyond the Sea," is one of the more messed up episodes of Black Mirror and that's really saying something. Kate Mara stars in the show as a woman trapped in the middle of a love triangle by two astronauts, one her husband, and one her suitor. It's a polarizing episode, like many, but there's no question it's as disturbing as the show can get. 

Miley Cyrus

In the final episode of Season 5, Miley Cyrus stars as Ashley O, a pop star not unlike her real-life self. Of all the Black Mirror episodes, it's maybe the least disturbing, but that really makes it underrated, if anything. It still makes the viewer question modern culture and tech, it just doesn't end in tragedy. 

Topher Grace

In Smithereens, Topher Grace plays a Jack Dorsey-type tech CEO who leads a social media company. While the episode is often criticized for its simplistic social commentary, by Black Mirror standards, Grace's performance is actually pretty perfect. All the acting performances are great in this uneven performance. 

Letitia Wright

Letitia Wright had been building a solid career in the U.K. before 2018 when she exploded on the world stage with her appearance in Black Panther. Prior to becoming a big part of the MCU, however, she starred in the Season 4 finale, "Black Museum." It's a fun episode with an almost greatest hits-type vibe, as it's filled with easter eggs to previous episodes. 

Benedict Wong

Benedict Wong has low-key become one of the most popular side characters in the MCU as... well... Wong. The same year he joined the MCU, in 2016's Doctor Strange, he also starred in the Season 3 episode "Hated in the Nation." He has a smaller role in the show compared to some of the other stars (like Kelly MacDonald) but he's great, as he always is in his many roles. 

Aaron Paul

Aaron Paul will likely forever be known first and foremost as Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad. There's nothing wrong with that, but Paul has had an impressive career outside of the legendary AMC show as well. One very notable role came in Season 6 of Black Mirror when he appeared alongside Josh Harnett and Kate Mara in "Beyond the Sea." It wasn't Paul's first appearance on the show, however. He had a quick cameo in "USS Callister" during the show's 4th Season. 

Zazie Beetz

Zazie Beetz hit the big time as a member of the hit show Atlanta starting in 2016. She later gained an even larger fanbase as Domino in Deadpool 2. In 2023, she got to star in an episode of Black Mirror called "Mazey Day" which broke new ground for the show, dipping into the supernatural for the first time. Though it wasn't the most well-received episode of the series, Beetz put together a great performance as a paparazza. 

Josh Harnett

Over the last 25 years, Josh Harnett has quietly put together one of the most underrated careers in Hollywood. He's played all kinds of roles, from heartthrobs to nuclear physicists. Of course, he also appeared as part of the star-studded cast of "Under The Sea" in Season 6. 

Michael Cera

Michael Cera has never been afraid to play ridiculous versions of himself. Most notably, in This Is The End, but also in the Season 6 episode "Joan is Awful." Everyone in the episode is playing some sort of version of themselves and Cera, as the character Beppe is, of course, over the top in his performance and we're here for it. 

Tobias Menzies

As character actors go, they don't get much better than Tobias Menzies. The English actor seems to pop up constantly in "prestige" shows. He was Brutus in HBO's Rome, he was Edmund Tully in Game of Thrones and he won an Emmy for playing Prince Philip in two seasons of The Crown. In the second season of Black Mirror, he played a British politician running for office against an animated bear named Waldo in "The Waldo Moment."

Domhnall Gleeson

Sure, Domhnall Gleeson is part of two of the biggest franchises in film history as a member of the Weasley family in the Harry Potter movies and General Hux in the Star Wars movies, but he's also been one of the best actors around for a couple of decades now. He appeared in the first episode of Season 2, "Be Right Back."

Wyatt Russell

Even though he has two very famous actors as parents, Wyatt Russell originally strived to play professional hockey. When injuries cut his career short, he fell back on acting. Lucky, huh? Still, he's putting together a really nice career, one that includes an appearance in the 2016 episode "Playtest."

Jodie Whittaker

Jodie Whittaker made history when she became the first woman to play The Doctor in three seasons of the modern era of Dr. Who. That wasn't Whittaker's first dabble in  science fiction TV, however, as she appeared in the third-ever episode of Black Mirror called "The Entire History of You." She is excellent in the episode, which ranks tops all-time on quite a few rankings. 

Jerome Flynn

One of the most disturbing episodes of Black Mirror came in its third season. "Shut Up and Dance" is a complicated episode, as viewers are repulsed by the characters, including, most notably, the one played by Game Of Thrones vet Jerome Flynn. Viewers are also taken aback by what those terrible characters have to do. It's a polarizing episode, but that's part of what makes it so great. 

Rory Kinnear

There are two roles that Rory Kinnear is likely most recognized for. One is Bill Tanner in four of the Daniel Craig-era James Bond movies. He's one of the most important characters from the Craig-led Bond films. The second is from the now-legendary premiere episode of Black Mirror called "The National Anthem." His performance as the beleaguered Prime Minister forced to do unspeakable things in the episode is, frankly, legendary.  

Rupert Everett

Rupert Everett has been killing on screen for more than 40 years now and though his role in the second episode of Season 1 is small, he's brilliant. He plays a Simon Cowell-type on a dystopian version of Britain's Got Talent and he, like Cowell, steals the show as a judge. 

Cherry Jones

Season 3's first episode, "Nosedive" is a fantastic episode, and a big reason why is the acting performances, including from Cherry Jones, who appears in only one scene of the show, but it's the pivotal moment in the show. Jones is one of the more underrated character actresses in Hollywood, but she's probably best known for playing President Allison Taylor on 24 and Holly Maddox in two seasons of The Handmaid's Tale. 

Oona Chaplin

Oona Chaplin comes from a family of true film royalty. Her grandfather was the legendary Charlie Chaplin. She's carved out an impressive career as well. She's best known as Talisa Stark, the ill-fated wife of Robb Stark in Game of Thrones, where she was the first death at the infamous Red Wedding. She stars alongside Jon Hamm in the Christmas special of Black Mirror in a smaller role, literally and figuratively, but her performance is sure to freak out everyone who watches. 

Jimmi Simpson

It's hard to believe that Always Sunny In Philadelphia first hit the airwaves in 2005, but it did. Jimmi Simpson has been along for most of the ride, as the oddball frenemy to "The Gang" and member of the McPoyle family, Liam McPoyle. He also appeared one of the most star-studded casts of Black Mirror in the "USS Callister."

Annie Murphy

Annie Murphy is most famous for playing Alexis Rose in Schitt's Creek and in 2023 she appeared as a strange version of herself playing "Joan" in "Joan in Awful" alongside Salma Hayek in the sixth season.  

Kirsten Dunst

"USS Callister" has one of the more star-studded casts and one of the stars you may not have even seen, Kirsten Dunst. Dunst's cameo in Black Mirror is truly a blink--and-you-miss-moment in the episode. She appears as a fellow office worker in the show and it's so brief most people missed it. 

Cristin Milioti

The multi-talented Cristin Milioti started her career on the stage on Broadway where she became a Tony-nominated actress, but made her on-screen breakthrough as "The Mother" in How I Met Your Mother. Since then, she's shined in shows like Fargo, The Resort, and The Mindy Project, as well as starring in "USS Callister" in Black Mirror. 

Will Poulter

Will Poulter seems to like showing in prestige TV shows. In addition to starring in the groundbreaking interactive "choose your own adventure" Black Mirror movie called Bandersnatch, he's also shown up in a cameo on The Bear. That's in addition, of course, to his film roles in The Revenant, Midsommar, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3., among many others. 

The chatter surrounding who will replace Katey Perry on American Idol when the show returns in 2025 following its run on the 2024 TV schedule is going strong. Now, one of the show’s current judges and country superstar Luke Bryan has thrown a few names in the ring, and while I think all three are great options, there’s one who stands out to me.

Luke Bryan Revealed Three Pop Stars Who Are 'In The Talks' To Take Over For Katy Perry

While there’s been speculation about who will replace Katy Perry on American Idol– with Jelly Roll being a fan-favorite contender and rumors about Kelly Clarkson becoming a judge on the ABC competition rolling around – Luke Bryan just dropped new names. Keeping it in the realm of pop stars, the country singer told Billboard about three people they’ve apparently been in talks with:

Those are some seriously big names to throw around, however, all three make sense.

Currently, the show is expected to feature Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie as judges, and with Perry departing, it makes sense that they want to get another female pop artist onto the show. Plus, the star power these three carry and the audiences they’d probably bring with them are incredible. However, I think that of these three, Meghan Trainor is the best choice.

I Want Meghan Trainor To Join American Idol

Now, hear me out. While I do think P!nk would be a great choice, and Miley Cyrus proved to be a wonderful mentor to artists when she was a coach on The Voice, I think it’s Meghan Trainor’s time to shine.

First of all, she has a big personality that’s perfect for TV. I just know she’d have a blast working with the contestants, joking with the judges and listening to all the singers that come on the show. Over the last few years, she’s emerged as quite the TikTok star too through her funny videos that go along with her music releases, which leads me to my next point.

Meghan Trainor could help bring a new demographic to American Idol. While P!nk and Miley Cyrus could do this too, there’s no denying the viral success the “Been Like This” singer has found on social media, and I think she could help the show through it.

All around, I think Trainor would be a refreshing addition to American Idol. She’d help balance out the panel, she’d bring the funny and I know she’d genuinely care about helping the artists on the show because she said this during Watch What Happens Live in June:

Well, I’m sold! Meghan Trainor would be a great addition to American Idol, and clearly she really wants to do it.

While we’ll obviously miss Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan will too, it’s always fun to see new stars joining panels on shows like this, and I can’t wait to find out who they pick!

Miley Cyrus’ lead single off her album Endless Summer Vacation, “Flowers,” was one of the hottest hits of 2023, winning Grammy Awards for Best Record and Best Pop Solo Performance. Thanks to her empowering lyrics, an amazing music video and plenty of speculation that the song is about her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, “Flowers” shot up the charts. But while people all over the world found strength in the concept of looking within for the things we seek out in relationships, Cyrus said she actually thinks the anthem is one of the saddest things she’s ever written.

In the new season of David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction (available to stream with a Netflix subscription), the “Wrecking Ball” artist sat down with the iconic talk show host. One topic that came up was her huge hit from last year that skyrocketed to the top of the charts, and Letterman mused that while buying yourself flowers and holding your own hand is a great concept, it’s not actually that easy in practice. Miley Cyrus agreed, noting “a real sadness to it.” She said: 

MIley Cyrus has previously said that the original lyrics to the chorus were  “I CAN’T love me better than you can,” and it’s pretty crazy how just that one word can make such a difference. David Letterman said the song made him think about all things you might miss in a relationship, saying sure, you can do all this for yourself, but that’s not really what you were hoping for. Again, he hit the nail on the head, and the artist agreed, saying: 

It really shows how talented Miley Cyrus is and how personal this song is to her that “Flowers” can take on two completely opposite — but both totally valid — meanings. The song, as she said, is absolutely a celebration of not needing to look to a partner for fulfillment, but at the same time, there is heartbreak, because it’s also nice to be loved and spoiled and not have to do it all by yourself.

Drama and a plethora of rumors have swirled around the Cyrus family for a little while now. Insiders have alleged that there’s been tension building amongst members of the famous brood, including former father-daughter tandem Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus. However, the former extended what could be perceived as an olive branch of sorts, as he posted a sentimental post honoring his daughter. As speculation regarding the state of their relationship continues, there’s now been a development regarding another aspect of Billy Ray’s life. It’s been reported that the veteran country music singer is divorcing his wife, fellow singer Firerose, after seven months of marriage. 

Why Are Billy Ray Cyrus And His Wife Reportedly Splitting Up?

The “Achy Breaky Heart” performer filed to end the union back in May, according to TMZ. Court documents obtained by the news outlet mark the date of their separation as May 22, 2024. It would seem that the fan-favorite singer also isn’t technically looking for a divorce but an annulment. His filing, which cites irreconcilable differences and “inappropriate marital conduct” as the reasons for the split, includes the claim that the marriage is the result of fraud. As part of the arrangement, Firerose would receive $5,000 on the first of each month, which would go towards her efforts to find a home in Tennessee. That arrangement would apparently remain in effect for 90 days or until the divorce is finalized.

Apparently, Billy Ray Cyrus’ soon-to-be-ex-wife was given the ultimatum to move out of the home they’ve lived in by May 24. It’s also stipulated in the documents that for 10 days, Cyrus provided her with $500 a night for temporary housing.

The 62-year-old “Old Town Road” singer began dating his 37-year-old back in August 2022. The two first met over a decade earlier on the set of his daughter’s show, Hannah Montana (a show he regrets). The two eventually married in October 2023, and it marked the country heartthrob's third march down the aisle. He was first married to Cindy Smith from 1986 to 1991, and he was later wed to Tish Cyrus from 1993 to 2023. Tish and Billy Ray's marriage saw starts and stops, with their relationship finally ending for good when they filed for divorce for a third and final time in 2022. From their union spawned five kids – daughters Miley, Noah and Brandi as well as sons Trace and Braison. 

What's Going On With Billy Ray And Miley Cyrus?

Meanwhile, the state of Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus’ relationship remains unclear, as it’s been rumored that they’ve been on the outs. Billy Ray took Instagram just a few days ago, though, and shared a post that featured a throwback photo of himself with his daughter. The Tennessee native warmly reminisced about a trip that he and his little girl took to CMA Fest when it was called Fan Fair. He also penned a caption, though which he expressed how proud he is of the singer and actress: 

Speculation regarding the relationship between the father and daughter began after the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. More specifically, many took notice when Miley Cyrus didn’t thank her father – but shouted out others – while accepting one of the awards she won that night. Us Weekly subsequently reported that Billy Ray attempted to contact his daughter but to no avail. As of right now, it can’t be said with certainty just where they stand.

It’s been an eventful time for Miley Cyrus, who’s opened up about fame and its effects on her life. She’s received acclaim for her album, Endless Summer Vacation, which won Record of the Year at the Grammys (where she wore a safety pin-clad dress). Amid this time, she’s also performed songs for friends and family. Speaking of the latter, drama has also been brewing with another portion of her kin, as her sister, Noah, and mother Tish are reportedly estranged due to a situation involving the latter’s new husband, actor Dominic Purcell. 

It’s fair to say that there’s a lot of news swirling around the Cyrus family. As of this writing, Firerose has yet to release a statement on her divorce from Billy Ray, while Miley has yet to publicly respond to her father’s post.

There are a lot of reasons that a young actor may change their name. Sometimes it's as simple as just wanting a cool new name. Often it's because someone is already in the union was using the actor's real name and they have to adjust. Here's a list of some of Hollywood's biggest stars and their real names. 

Ben Kingsley (Krishna Pandit Bhanji)

The great Ben Kingsley won an Oscar for his role in the great biopic Gandhi. It makes sense he would play the Indian freedom fighter, as Kingsley himself is Indian. Born to an Indian father and an English mother, Kingsley grew up in England and while his father was a practicing Shia Muslim, Kinglsey is not and considers himself a Quaker. He changed his name for that oh-so-common reason, that he feared a foreign-sounding name would hurt his career. 

Whoopi Goldberg (Caryn Elaine Johnson)

The story is both hilarious and heartfelt. She was born Caryn Elaine Johnson in New York, but when she started acting, she was accused of being flatulent, so Whoopi "short for whoopee cushion." Her surname came from a Jewish ancestor, Goldberg, so she could celebrate the diversity in her family line. 

Judy Garland (Frances Ethel Gumm)

Judy Garland first started in show business as a singer with her sisters, going by their names, The Gumm Sisters. After they were billed as the "Glum Sisters" for a show, it was suggested they change their name. Judy Gumm took her mother's maiden name, Garland, and the rest is history. 

Martin Sheen (Ramon Gerard Estevez)

Martin Sheen's real name is Ramon Gerard Estevez, but he changed it when he broke into the business for the same reason so many others have made the decision, to be less ethnic, as early in his career they said he looked Irish. One of his sons, Charlie Sheen, chose to use the same screen name, but one of his other sons, Emilio Estevez, chose to use his given name. Sheen's daughter, Renée Estevez, an occasional cast member of The West Wing with her father, also stuck with the family name. 

Vin Diesel (Mark Sinclair)

Vin Diesel took on that name after being born Mark Sinclair when he worked as a bouncer as he tried to break into show business. "Vin" comes from his adoptive surname, Vincent, and Diesel came simply because he wanted a cool name as a bouncer. 

Miley Cyrus (Destiny Hope Cyrus)

Though she was born Destiny Hope Cyrus, Miley Cyrus decided to go by the moniker she's best known as because that was simply what her family called her growing up. Her nickname in the family was originally "Smiley" which was eventually shortened to Miley. Her first couple of professional acting gigs, in the TV show Doc and the Tim Burton movie Big Fish, she was billed by her real name, Destiny Cyrus. 

Cary Grant (Archibald Alec Leach)

Early in his Vaudeville career, the great Cary Grant used his real name, Archibald Leach. When he got to Hollywood, as is so often the case, the studio didn't think the name wasn't "box office" enough, so he changed it to Cary Grant. 

Natalie Portman (Natalie Hershlag)

Natalie Portman's real name is Natalie Hershlag, but unlike so many others, she didn't change it because the name was "too ethnic" or not generic enough. As she explained to Vanity Fair in 2024, it was because she wanted to create a separate identity for her work and personal life. 

Portia De Rossi (Amanda Lee Rogers)

Portia de Rossi's name change came, at least originally, because she simply wanted a more exotic-sounding name when she started acting in her teens. Her given name, Amanda Lee Rogers, was just bland. She later revealed it may have been in part because she was struggling with her sexual identity as well. After marrying Ellen Degeneres in 2008, she changed it again, this time combining her real and stage names, Portia Lee James DeGeneres. Professionally she is still Portia de Rossi though. 

Joaquin Phoenix (Joaquin Rafael Bottom)

The Phoenix family has a fascinating history, one that includes time in the cult Children of God. When the family left that group, they made a collective decision to change their last name to one of rebirth, and Joaquin Rafael Bottom became Joaquin Phoenix.

Jamie Foxx (Eric Marlon Bishop)

Born Eric Marlon Bishop in 1967, Jamie Foxx took his stage name early when he was a standup. He says that he noticed women often got preferential spots during open mics, so he decided he wanted a more androgynous name, choosing Jamie. For his last name, he picked it as a tribute to his favorite comedian, Redd Foxx. 

John Wayne (Marion Robert Morrison)

It was a lot more common back in the day for actors to adopt cooler-sounding stage names and that was pretty much the case for Marion Robert Morrison, who ended up John Wayne. It's easy to see why he did it, whether it was a good idea or not. It worked for him. 

Tom Cruise (Thomas Cruise Mapother IV)

Top Gun: Maverick star Tom Cruise didn't change much, but it was a meaningful change. His real name at birth was Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, obviously named after his father, hence the suffix. Cruise had a very difficult relationship with his dad, so when he began his career, he dropped the Mapother in part to distance himself from his then-estranged father. The two later reunited when his father was on his deathbed. 

Olivia Wilde (Olivia Cockburn)

Actor and director Olivia Wilde's story about why she changed her name is pretty simple. She decided she wanted to stage name, and at the time was acting in Oscar Wilde's play The Importance of Being Earnest, which she loved. So she went with Wilde as a homage to the legendary playwright. 

Meg Ryan (Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra)

It's pretty easy to see why Meg Ryan chose to simplify her name when she started acting. Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra sure is a mouthful, so cutting a 25-letter name down to a seven-letter one makes sense. Meg is short for Margaret and Ryan is the maiden name of maternal grandmother. 

Kirk Douglas (Issur Danielovitch)

In another example of early Hollywood stars fearing their given names would hold them back for sounding too ethnic, Kirk Douglas changed his name from Issur Danielovitch. He told People it was because he feared it would hold him back and it sounded "too Semitic." 

Mahershala Ali (Mahershalalhashbaz Gilmore)

Like others on this list, it's easy to see why Mahershala Ali changed his name from Mahershalalhashbaz Gilmore. Not only is Mahershalalhashbaz really hard to spell and pronounce, but the Green Book actor also converted to Islam as a teenager, taking Mahershala Ali as his Muslim name. 

Marilyn Monroe (Norma Jeane Mortenson)

One of the most famous name changes in Hollywood history is Norma Jeane Mortensen changing her name to Marilyn Monroe. There is no big story behind it, it simply was a snazzier name and Monroe was her mother's maiden name. 

Michael Keaton (Michael Douglas)

This one is easy to understand. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star Michael Keaton's real name is Michael Douglas. Obviously with an actor already in the union (Romancing The Stone star Michael Douglas), Keaton had to come up with a new name for billing. He chose the last name out of respect for early Hollywood star Buster Keaton. 

Michael Caine (Maurice Joseph Micklewhite)

If you think Maurice Micklewhite is a bit of a mouthful, you're not alone. English legend Michael Caine thought so too. In 2016, he legally changed his name from Micklewhite to Caine, because, according to the Batman Begins actor says it caused too much confusion at airports. 

Winona Ryder (Winona Laura Horowitz)

This one is a little in dispute - though not really. Charlie Sheen once claimed he gave Winona Horowitz her new name, Ryder, after listening to The Doors song "Riders on the Storm." Ryder says she got it when her father asked if she wanted a stage name while they were listening to Mitch Ryder. 

Demi Moore (Demetria Gene Guynes)

The story of Demi Moore's stage name (changed from Demetria Guynes) is both mundane and unique. Before she started appearing in acting roles, Moore married musician Freddy Moore when she was 18. So while Moore was her married name, it was a new name, just as her career was taking off. Demi is simply short for Demetria. 

Dove Cameron (Chloe Celeste Hosterman)

Dove Cameron has never explained why she chose Cameron as her stage name, but her reason for choosing Dove is bittersweet. Dove was her father's nickname for her and after he took his own life, she decided she wanted to go by that, in tribute to him. 

Cher (Cherilyn Sarkisian)

It takes a lot of gall and a lot of talent to decide you're going to go with a one-name moniker, and Cher has oodles of both. It's not hard to see what she did, she simply shortened her first name, Cherilyn, and dropped her last. 

Olivia Colman (Sarah Caroline Colman)

Like others on this list, Olivia Colman couldn't join the actors union with her birth name, Sarah Colman, so she changed it. As she explained in 2013, Colman chose Olivia because it is one of her best friends from college's name and she loved it. 

Carmen Electra (Tara Leigh Patrick)

There aren't many people who can claim the legendary Prince gave them their name, but Carmen Electra can. Way back at the start of her career, when she was working with the Purple One, he decided Tara wasn't good enough and named her Carmen. In 2023, Tara Leigh Patrick officially changed her legal name to Carmen Electra, because who wouldn't?

Lily James (Lily Chloe Ninette Thomson)

Like others here, Lily James renamed herself in honor of her late father, James. Though Thomson was also her father's name, of course, she wanted to do more, deciding taking on the stage name "James" to do so. 

Nicolas Cage (Nicolas Kim Coppola)

Nicolas Cage's first movie role was basically just a background character in Fast Times At Ridgemont High. He is billed in the credits by his legal name, Nicolas Coppola, and yeah, it's that Coppola. While on the set of Fast Times, his co-stars would endlessly quote his famous uncle's (Francis Ford Coppola) movies. He decided then and there he needed to distance himself from his famous family (Talia Shire is his aunt, and Sophia Coppola and Jason Schwartzman are cousins).

Julianne Moore (Julie Anne Smith)

Julie Smith is a pretty common name, and when the great Julieanne Moore hit Hollywood, she soon discovered the name was already taken in the union. She tried different combinations, but they were all spoken for. In the end, she combined her first and middle names, and took her father's name, Moore, as her surname. It's like having to go through dozens of combos to find the right vanity plate, but in the end, it's hard to imagine the actor with any other name. 

Mindy Kaling (Vera Mindy Chokalingam)

It seems Hollywood is still getting people to change their names if they or people around them fear a real name is too complicated or foreign. Indian actor and writer Mindy Kaling is a recent example when she simplified her name from Vera Mindy Chokalingam to Mindy Kaling. 

David Tennant (David John McDonald)

Former Dr. Who and Jessica Jones star David Tennant has a tried and true story as well, his real name, David McDonald, was taken. He explained some years ago on James Corden's show, where he also explained that he chose "Tennant" because he saw the name from a music magazine in an article about Neil Tennant of The Pet Shop Boys. 

Chevy Chase (Cornelius Crane Chase)

Chevy Chase comes from a very blood-blue family who can trace their roots in America back to the Mayflower. Cornelius Crane Chase, the Vacation star's real name, reflects this perfectly. The reason he goes by "Chevy" is because his grandmother started calling him that when he was a kid. So, not much of a story here, but he's real name is just so posh, that we had to include it here. 

Helen Mirren (Helen Lydia Mironoff)

Like others, this one is just a technicality. Helen Mirren was born Helen Lydia Mironoff in London to an English mother and a Russian father. When Mirren was 10 years old, her father anglicized the family name to "Mirren." 

When it comes to the modern music industry, few acts are at the top of their game quite like Lainey Wilson, at least those who don’t boast the surname “Swift.” She’s fully conquered the country music scene since the release of her third fourth studio album Bell Bottom Country, which took home this year’s Grammy for Best Country Album. (To the presumed disappointment of Kelsea Ballerini.) Her star status grew larger still upon joining Yellowstone’s fifth season, and while that was her first official acting gig, it turns out she has a history of impersonating Miley Cyrus.

More specifically, Wilson used to earn a fair wage by taking the (sometimes metaphorical) stage impersonating Cyrus’ beloved Disney Channel character Hannah Montana. While she was enjoying herself ahead of the CMA Music Awards, E! News asked about her favorite track on Beyoncé’s new album Cowboy Carter, which led the Female Video of the Year winner to recall some of her earliest money-making performances. In her words:

This sounds like something that everyone needs to see, whether it’s through resurfaced videos of 14-year-old Lainey Wilson belting out Hannah Montana tracks, or through the singer-songwriter resurrecting that impersonation on TV at some point. Saturday Night Live has featured Selena Gomez’s Miley Cyrus impression, and Vanessa Bayer talked about performing her impression for Miley’s mom Trish Cyrus at one point, so it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary.

Compared to my own occupational efforts during middle school and high school, Lainey Wilson couldn’t be a more hard-working and dedicated performer. Spending as much as five years impersonating a TV character can be a bonkers way to earn money, but that kind of on-stage experience no doubt helped her perfect her approach when it came to her own music.

To that end, Wilson hilariously pointed out that she became her own opening act, which is just genius. As she put it:

Unfortunately for TV viewers, it’s unclear at this point whether or not Lainey Wilson’s character Abby will be back to keep wooing Ian Bohen’s Ryan during Yellowstone’s remaining Season 5 episodes, which are meant to start filming in the spring. Wilson talked in 2023 about not being privy to the behind-the-scenes drama that was happening between star Kevin Costner and co-creator Taylor Sheridan, and hasn’t even confirmed that she’d be returning.

However, she did speak to her interests in potentially bringing Abby back for the sequel series if she’s asked. So there’s definitely good vibes on her end, and fans definitely love seeing her on the show, as they called out Yellowstone for not posting about her during International Women’s Day, even though she only has a recurring presence.

At present, Liam Hemsworth is preparing for a major gig, as he’ll be taking on the lead role as Geralt of Rivia on Netflix’s The Witcher. In doing so, he’s taking over for Henry Cavill, who played the role during the first three seasons. While we’ve yet to get a glimpse of the incoming actor in costume, he did share a pic amid his workout efforts, and Hemsworth looked ripped. The image has since gone viral on the web, and a number of fans have seemingly taken notice. In fact, even the sister of his ex-wife, Miley Cyrus, reacted to it. 

The Hunger Games actor’s photo currently has over 370,000 likes, which is very impressive. A number of fans have since weighed in on the matter and have seemingly been keeping an eye on the growing buzz the Instagram post is receiving. Interestingly, Noah Cyrus was one of the many to drop a like on the post though, per Us Weekly, the like has since been removed. As far as we can tell, that was the only manner in which the 27-year-old singer responded. Nevertheless, many seemed to take notice, with one user on X merely sharing the comment “messy.” You can see the pic for yourself down below:

It was confirmed during the summer of 2012 that Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus were getting married, after having begun an on-and-off relationship. The two, who met on the set of The Last Song, eventually broke off the engagement in 2013 by, after getting back together in 2016, they got engaged again. They eventually tied the knot in December of that year and, by 2019, they announced their separation, with their divorce being finalized in 2020. The singer previously opened up about there being “conflict” in the marriage, and Hemsworth has also been speculated to have inspired Cyrus’ hit single, “Flowers.”

Considering the history between the two former lovers, it’s interesting that Noah Cyrus would like the Independence Day: Resurgence actor’s post. We can’t say for sure what this little like may indicate about where things stand between Cyrus and her former brother-in-law. However, at first glance, one can’t help but wonder if it means the two remain on relatively solid terms since the leading man’s split from Miley. 

This social media-related development arrives as drama is reportedly unfolding within the Cyrus family. Noah and her mother, Tish, are allegedly estranged, due to the former supposedly dating her mother’s current husband, actor Dominic Purcell, shortly before he began seeing the latter. Sources also claim that Miley was aware of the supposed relationship and is currently unhappy with the drama surrounding her mother and sister.

Meanwhile, fans of The Witcher have been looking for hints regarding Liam Hemsworth’s debut. The actor’s casting was announced in October 2022 ahead of the third season’s premiere. As of right now, it’s hard to say what fans can expect from his take on Geralt, but I’d think that he’s aiming to put his own spin on the role. Surely, plenty of Netflix subscribers will be tuning in to see how Hemsworth fares in his new gig. And, after Noah Cyrus liked his workout pic, I now can’t help but wonder if she’ll be one of the many to check out Season 4 when it drops.

Two music queens – Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus – came together for a powerful duet called “II MOST WANTED” on Queen Bey’s newest album Cowboy Carter. Now, the “Flowers” singer has posted about how much this collaboration means to her, and it’s incredibly sweet.

There’s no question that Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus are two of the biggest pop stars working. Now, they’ve combined forces on Cowboy Carter, and it’s magnificent. The album -- which also features Dolly Parton and a cover of her song “Jolene,” Post Malone and Willie Nelson -- is the “Formation” singer’s first full country album, and an explosive entrance into the country genre. For Cyrus, who has dabbled in the world of country music and is the goddaughter of Dolly Parton, this collaboration was so fitting, and it meant a lot to her. She proved that by posting a photo of the album cover and writing this on Instagram:

This post came right after Beyoncé released Cowboy Carter and spent the week promoting her album by posting its tracklist and fun moments like eating spaghetti on a private jet. Much like the sweet post Blake Lively uploaded about Beyoncé following the release of her concert film Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé, Cyrus clearly respects the “TEXAS HOLD 'EM" singer immensely and was honored to work on the project. 

Also, considering Miley Cyrus' history of working in different genres and being raised around country music -- her father is country singer Billy Ray Cyrus and her godmother, whom she’s very close with and has done collaborations before, is Dolly Parton -- makes her the perfect fit for Cowboy Carter. 

Famously, Cyrus has hopped from country to pop to rock and back through songs like “The Climb” (country) and “Flowers” (pop) as well as albums like Plastic Hearts (rock), and that’s exactly what Beyoncé is doing with her latest albums. 

Coming on the heels of the disco and house album Renaissance, its wildly successful world tour, and the box office success of Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé, the megastar released her first country album about a year later. The album was “born” out of an experience the singer had “where [she] did not feel welcomed” as she wrote on Instagram, and many believe she’s alluding to her performance at the CMA Awards in 2016. She went on to study country music, and this album is a result of her challenging herself and “taking [her] time to bend and blend genres.” 

As we’ve discussed, Miley Cyrus is a perfect person to feature on this album, and not only was she empowered by working on “II MOST WANTED,” I think many listeners were too, I know I was. Seeing these two push the boundaries of genre and create breathtaking music is wonderful, and like Cyrus said “my admiration” that we get to witness collaborations like this runs deep. 

Miley Cyrus has proven many times over the years that she’s not afraid to show a little skin (hello, “Wrecking Ball” music video), and she was given another opportunity to flaunt a gorgeous but skimpy sheer number when she won a BRIT Award on March 2. In fact, when “Flowers” won for International Song of the Year, Cyrus looked like she was having the most fun in her acceptance speech video, and even thanked the fans for giving her an excuse to get dressed up (or dressed down, as the case may be). 

The Endless Summer Vacation artist wasn’t able to attend the BRIT Awards in person, but that didn’t stop her from getting the full glam treatment to show her appreciation for the honor. MIley Cyrus donned a nude gown covered in silver sparkles with a plunging neckline and open back that showed off her array of tattoos. She posted a pic of her ensemble on Instagram: 

Her hair was styled in a huge blowout, similar to how she wore it to the Grammys, when she donned a wild dress made of 14,000 safety pins, and while she said she was flattered to have her single voted the International Song of the Year, Miley Cyrus didn’t undercut the benefit of getting to dress up, as she said in her acceptance video: 

Miley Cyrus joking that her speech was short to match her dress is absolutely iconic, and after giving a cheeky giggle, she proceeded to strut away for a few steps to show off the dress, striking a pose as she hammed it up for the camera. 

The “We Can’t Stop” singer seems to be living her best life lately, at least when it comes to her fashion choices, which are always daring and delightful. In addition to the stunning black corset dress she wore for the British Vogue cover shoot, the Hannah Montana star added some old Hollywood glam to another recent sheer look, when she shared several images from the luxe Chateau Marmont hotel, posing in her lacy black dress in hallways and elevators.

Miley Cyrus really wasn’t joking about the whole Endless Summer Vacation thing, because she seems to always dress in barely there outfits, regardless of the season. In February she indicated she was ready to bring back the black bikini summer, and who can blame her, given how hard she works on her body (as she proved in an impressive video showing her doing yoga on a paddleboard)?

Even in a room full of style superstars, Miley Cyrus always manages to stand out—this is a woman who sports teeny-weeny black bikinis in the dead of winter and sometimes lets her mother cut her hair into a mullet—a fact she proved during a historic photoshoot for British Vogue. 

The pop star kicked off the week on a high by winning her first two Grammy Awards this past Sunday for her trapeze-covered album Endless Summer Vacation, and she looked amazing while doing so, in an eye-catching sheer metal dress that was mind-bogglingly made of 14,000 safety pins. And it's looking like the good vibes are still going for the "Flowers" crooner, because she was one of the 40 megastars chosen for the March 2024 cover of Vogue UK, which marked the final issue of the mag's outgoing Editor-in-Chief, Edward Enninful.

In the cover photo from the "farewell shoot," Cyrus can be seen alongside a "sisterhood of megastars" that includes fellow A-listers Serena Williams, Oprah Winfrey, Dua Lipa, Jane Fonda, Salma Hayek and Victoria Beckham, as well as legendary Vogue models including Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Kate Moss. 

The publication posted the cover to its social media platforms on Thursday, February 8, with a caption detailing how the magazine's team managed to wrangle "the most booked and blessed women on earth" from locations like London, Los Angeles, Paris and Milan to secretly meet up in a Manhattan photo studio this past December:

Along with the "once-in-a-lifetime" cover photo, British Vogue also published individual black-and-white portraits of the famous participants, including a solo shot of Cyrus looking like a rock-and-roll goddess. In the Ned Rogers snap, the "River" singer can be seen strutting her stuff in a black corset dress kind of like the ones we saw at the Grammys from Maison Margiela, with an off-the-shoulder neckline that showed off her tatted arms. 

And folks in the comments were eating up what Miley was serving, quickly taking to the comments to praise the star's glam look:

When Miley Cyrus showed up at the 2024 Grammys, her out-there red carpet look was both dense and barely-there, a dichotomy that made the outfit feel tough and delicate at the same time. Cyrus has now shared more about the look and how it came together. I feel like kind of an idiot saying this, but I had no idea the dress was made out of safety pins. 14,000 safety pins, to be exact. 

Cyrus opened up about the look in a post on Instagram, noting how some of the intensive details on the ‘fit came together. Maison Margiela was responsible for crafting the design, which is one of several the pop singer sported during the event, as she also performed onstage and accepted awards for Best Record and Pop Solo Performance. 

It was the chain mail look that drew a lot of attention, however, and Cyrus revealed the intensive work that was done behind the scenes in order to get the dress to fit perfectly – a feat considering how many gaps safety pins have. 

The “Flowers” singer also shared myriad images from the creation of the dress. It seems that the fashion house collected a slew of beads and golden pins for the look and started forming it from scratch. Deft fingers were absolutely needed. 

As the look came together, the shape of the dress as we saw it in its final form also started revealing itself. 

I almost wonder if specialized craftspeople had to be brought in, as most people who are great as seamstresses likely don't have a background in working with metal. And even for those who have used safety pins for art in the past, I can't even imagine the logistics of designing the blueprint for this dress and then getting it to fit Miley Cyrus' body so exactly. 

Yet, through each of the behind-the-scenes images of the creation of the dress, we see Maison Margiela get closer and closer to this: 

It's a well-known fact that Miley Cyrus knows how to make a fashion moment. Sometimes there are foam fingers involved. In the event of a pandemic, she occasionally lets her mom cut her hair into a mullet. At times, Cyrus even rocks bikinis in the middle of winter. Always, she manages to be surprising. 

Maison Margiela is known for using unconventional materials in its designs. We’ve seen the brand famously make tops out of leather gloves and coats made out of duvet covers. While the safety pins are the bigger feat, here, it doesn’t surprise me in the least the brand would have gone the extra mile in order to track down vintage beads that would be the perfect addition. One should always go the extra mile for Miley Cyrus, after all. 

Miley Cyrus turned quite a few heads on the Grammys red carpet, but it wasn’t her huge hair that people were looking at. The “Flowers” singer wore a barely there gold metal dress that showed off a lot of skin on the biggest night in music. Meanwhile, Megan Fox may not have been at the awards ceremony, but somehow she still had the pop star beat, flaunting an even more-revealing look in her own gold metal dress in her first Instagram post in months.

In the first of several outfits for Miley Cyrus at the February 4 awards ceremony, the singer donned the Maison Margiela dress, which strategically covered just enough through its use of a metal panty and safety pin mesh:

But in what seemed to be a coincidental “Who wore it better?" scenario, Megan Fox returned to Instagram with her own chainmail piece, which also appeared to feature a gold panty. Her dress lacked the coverage provided by Miley Cyrus’ safety pins, though, making for an ever-so-slightly more risque look, which you can see below: 

Megan Fox also showed off a new hair color, and after channeling April O'Neil with red hair last fall, she went bubblegum pink (reminiscent of "King Kylie" Jenner's recent look). Should we expect to see other celebs going Barbiecore at the hair salon?

This was Megan Fox’s first post on social media since November, when she took a departure from her typical skin-baring posts for a glam photoshoot in an oversized Altuzarra satin coat. She said then that she was re-examining her relationship with fashion, but this latest post proves that she hasn’t completely forgone the revealing ensembles we’ve seen so much of, including her viral pants-free red-carpet look and a ridiculously steamy naked dress at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. 

Instead, Megan Fox said she doesn’t have one consistent style, and while she was trying some less-revealing or oversized pieces, she said she also had days where she tells herself, ‘No, I need to be naked this day.”

Miley Cyrus similarly seems to subscribe to the “no clothes, no problem” way of life. In fact, days ahead of the Grammy Awards, she showed that she’s already ready for black bikini summer, despite it just being February. And fittingly enough, the artist seems to associate gold with celebrations, because before she walked the red carpet in golden safety pins, she celebrated a huge “Flowers” milestone last summer by flaunting a metallic gold bikini.

Luckily we don’t have to actually choose who wore their gold metal number better, and fans get to celebrate both women and their daring fashion choices.
