Salma Hayek and Danny Trejo are quite the dynamic duo. They met co-starring in Hayek’s first movie, Mi Vida Loca, and would reunite two years later for one of the greatest Mexican films, Desperado. As for the two stars’ first encounter with each other, it is quite an unusual story, but a very sweet one that ended with, “For you, I would rob another bank.”

Before becoming an actor, Danny Trejo led the life of a real badass. When he was a teen, he was in and out of prison for armed robberies. Back in 2016, Salma Hayek spoke on The Graham Norton Show (via audiobookfanatic on Instagram) about meeting the actor on her film debut, which led to a bizarre interaction:

Funnily enough, there’s a very good reason why Danny Trejo felt he knew Salma Hayek before starring in Mi Vida Loca. Here’s what else went down in their strange exchange with a very sweet ending:

I can only imagine what an abnormal experience that was for Salma Hayek to see a woman who looked just like her on Danny Trejo’s chest! And in a way, it’s a kinda…sweet proclamation to say he’d rob another bank for her. But fortunately, the actor’s armed robbery days are long over.

Trejo has since made a name for himself in film and television, owns a chain of restaurants in L.A., and has a line of upcoming movies he’ll appear in.

Plus since their first meeting, he and Hayek have starred in many great Robert Rodriguez movies like Desperado, From Dusk Til Dawn, Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, they also had unforgettable cameos in Muppets Most Wanted. So, maybe it was fate for the two to meet.

Now, I really can't get over this story. Just when I thought I had heard all of the wild stories out there, I find out Danny Trejo has a large tattoo on his chest that resembles the woman he’d eventually co-star with in six movies. However, he was clearly very taken with working with Salma Hayek, feeling he’d “rob another bank” for her.

My goodness! As Hayek shared, after going through all the trouble to try on one hundred bathing suits and get a few of them altered for the shoot in Mexico, her bag was lost somehow, and she had to go with whatever was there on the day. Of course, you would never know it, but it is funny to hear why they are “extra small” in her book. She also said this about the experience:

I don’t know about you, but there’s something really refreshing about Hayek’s comments about her Sports Illustrated cover. She makes it look effortless, like cover models before her, including Megan Fox, Martha Stewart and even Lori Harvey doing the cover on her own terms. There is no bigger "movie star" on the planet than Tom Cruise. While no one would realistically expect Cruise to be nominated for his action roles like in the Mission: Impossible movies (though, his stunt work in those movies should really be acknowledged), the Top Gun star has put in the work with Oscar-worthy performances in films like Rain Man, Jerry Maguire, Born on the Fourth of July, and Magnolia. He has been nominated four times, but he's yet to take home the prize.

Angela Bassett

In 1994 Angela Bassett lost out on the Best Actress Oscar for her incredible, transformative performance as Tina Turner in What's Love Got to Do with It. Not to take anything away from the winner, Holly Hunter for The Piano, but it's frankly astonishing Bassett didn't win. Sadly, though she was honored in 2024 by the Academy, she still has yet to win a competitive Oscar.

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp has gotten a lot of bad press in recent years and that may hurt his future chances to win an Academy Award, but frankly, it's amazing he hasn't already won multiple Oscars, and yet he's never won even one. Despite three nominations and many other amazing performances, the Pirates Of The Caribbean star is still Oscar-less.

Sigourney Weaver

It's hard to believe that Sigourney Weaver hasn't even been nominated for an Oscar since the 1980s, when she was nominated thrice. In spite of wonderful performances in huge hits like Avatar and Aliens, she's still searching for that golden statue.

Bradley Cooper

Honestly, you can almost smell the desperation on Bradley Cooper to win an Oscar and that's completely understandable. Cooper is one of the best actors of his generation and has been nominated five times in an acting category (and another seven times in other categories), but hasn't won...yet. He'll surely get one.

Samuel L. Jackson has played every kind of character and starred in every kind of movie. From mega-franchises like Star Wars and the MCU, to more indie films like Pulp Fiction and Do The Right Thing, Jackson has done it all in Hollywood, except win a competitive Oscar and he's shockingly only been nominated once. He was honored by the Academy in 2021 for his body of work.

Scarlett Johansson

In 2020 Scarlett Johansson was nominated in both the Bet Actress category for Marriage Story and Best Supporting Actress for Jojo Rabbit. She lost out in both that year and despite an incredible career, they remain her only nominations.

Laurence Fishburne

Literally, since his breakout movie role when he was only 16 in Apocalypse Now, Laurence Fishburne has been putting in award-worthy performances. One of the most astonishing facts on this list, Fishbourne has only been nominated once, for What's Love Got to Do with It in 1994. Despite roles like Furious Styles in Boyz n The Hood, Professor Phipps in Higher Learning, and countless others, he still hasn't won.

Hugh Jackman

While he's best known for his work as Wolverine these days, the multi-talented Hugh Jackman has a ton of performances that have deserved more attention from the Academy. He's won every other award on the planet, including three of the "EGOT" awards, but he's still missing the "O."

Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams has been nominated for an Academy Award five times, starting with her breakout role in 2005's Brokeback Mountain. She has yet to break through with a win though. Certainly, she will at some point, right?

Saoirse Ronan

Saoirse Ronan was just 13 years old when she landed her first Oscar nomination for her performance in Atonement. The Lady Bird star has been nominated three subsequent times but hasn't been able to nail down an award yet. A win for Ronan at some point seems inevitable, given how she crushes every role she's in.

Matt Damon

Another one of the biggest movie stars in the world who has yet to win an acting Oscar is Matt Damon. His most recent of three acting nominations was for 2015's The Martian, and while he has won an Oscar for Best Screenplay for Good Will Hunting, an acting award has eluded him.

Salma Hayek

Despite her transcending performance in Frida, the great Salma Hayek wasn't able to win an Oscar in a stacked category in 2003 (Nicole Kidman won for The Hours). Despite numerous great performances, that remains Hayak's only nomination. For shame.

Willem Dafoe

Despite being one of the most reliable actors in Hollywood for more than four decades, somehow Willem Dafoe has yet to win an Oscar. It seems like every single role he takes on is award-worthy, and yet, despite four nominations, starting with Platoon, he still has yet to take home an Academy Award.

Carey Mulligan

2009's An Education garnered Carey Mulligan her first Oscar nom, and she's since nominated another couple of times, for Promising Young Woman in 2021 and Maestro in 2024. She's run into some stiff competition, but surely at least one of those performances was Oscar-worthy.

Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo has been acting his butt off for decades. For that hard work, he's received four Best Supporting Actor nominations, and shockingly, not for his work in Dark Waters, which might be his best performance of all. It's confounding.

Michelle Pfeiffer

The great Michelle Pfeiffer landed her first Oscar nomination in 1988 for Dangerous Liaisons and picked up two more for The Fabulous Baker Boys in 1989 and Love Field in 1992. Since then? Nothing. Zip. She has not even received a nomination as one of the best actresses of her generation. That has to be remedied, as it makes no sense.

Ralph Fiennes

Between 1996 when he was nominated for The English Patient and 2025 when he was nominated for Conclave, the great Ralph Fiennes wasn't even nominated for an Oscar despite countless award-worthy performances.

Naomi Watts

With two nominations and zero wins, Naomi Watts finds herself on this list. She was first nominated in 2004 for 21 Grams and again in 2013 for The Impossible, but she hasn't lucked out with a win yet. Surely one is in her future though, she's too much of a force not to win one.

Ryan Gosling

Year after year Ryan Gosling has put up fantastic performances, so his inclusion on this list is among the most surprising. He seems like a shoo-in to have won at least one Oscar, right? In not for Barbie or Half Nelson, both of which he was nominated for, then certainly for La La Land. Alas, he's yet to take home a trophy.

Alfre Woodard

When Alfre Woodard was nominated for her first (and to-date only) Oscar nomination way back in 1983 for Cross Creek, you'd be crazy to predict she would not get another one for what is now more than 40 years. Despite amazing performances in films like 12 Years A Slave and many others, she has been shut out.

Warren Beatty

There was no bigger movie star than Warren Beatty in the late '70s and '80s and despite a slew of hits, Beatty has never won an Oscar. Beatty has been nominated four times for Best Actor, yet his only Academy Award win came for Best Director for Reds in 1982. He didn't even win for Dick Tracy! He wasn't actually nominated for that iconic role though, which is understandable.

Laura Linney

Over her long, impressive career, Laura Linney has been nominated for many awards. She's won multiple Emmys and multiple Golden Globes, but she's never taken home a golden statue from the Academy. Linney has been nominated three times, for 2000's You Can Count on Me, 2004's Kinsey, and 2007's The Savages, but lost out each time. Linney has never been in a movie that has won Best Picture, either.

Ed Harris

Ed Harris is one of the best character actors of the last 50 years and yet he's never won an Oscar. He's been nominated three times for Best Supporting Actor, for Apollo 13, The Truman Show, and The Hours, plus picking a nomination for Best Actor for Pollock, but alas, he's never won. Weirdly, he's also 0-3 on Emmy nominations too. He has picked up two Golden Globes though.

Joan Allen

Joan Allen is an actress flies a little under the radar despite putting in amazing performances in everything she is in. It might because she's been incredibly unlucky at winning awards, despite multiple Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG nominations. That luck includes her Oscar nominations, of which she has three, for Nixon, The Crucible, and The Contender, but sadly no wins.

Richard Gere

Despite being box office gold since the early 1980s, Richard Gere has shockingly never been even nominated for an Oscar. He's been in beloved movies that have stood the test of time like Pretty Woman, An Officer And A Gentleman, Primal Fear, Runaway Bride and so many more, but no nominations. Crazy.

Isabelle Huppert

It might not be a huge surprise that a French actress like Isabelle Huppert hasn't won an Oscar, as obviously the winners are almost always from English-language films. Still, Huppert is one of the most decorated actresses of all time in her native France, having been nominated 16 times (and winning twice) for the César Award (France's version of the Academy Awards). She was nominated for an Oscar in 2016 for Elle but lost to Emma Stone (for La La Land).

Paul Dano

It almost seems pre-ordained that at some point Paul Dano will win an Oscar. In performance after performance, he just crushes it. From There Will Be Blood to Love & Mercy, the list of his amazing performances just keeps growing. Like others on this list, the fact that he hasn't even been nominated for an Oscar is mindboggling.

Those with a Max subscription can yearn for the forbidden romance between a couple who is torn apart by an arranged marriage through this new adaptation of the classic novel by Laura Esquivel that's produced by Salma Hayek. Speaking of the star producer, when CinemaBlend spoke to two of the series’ leads about this exciting project, they shared how Hayek welcomed them and how that led to a funny text miscommunication.

Salma Hayek’s latest producing credit leans into her Mexican roots as she has worked behind the scenes to bring a new version of Like Water For Chocolate to audiences over 30 years after the magical realism classic was turned into a movie. Andrea Chaparro, who plays Gertrudis, shared how Hayek first greeted the Spanish-language cast to the show, saying:

While it was certainly a lovely first sentiment from the producer and Hollywood star, Azul Guaita, who plays Tita, was not happy to see the text message at first glance. In her words:

Guaita was sworn to secrecy at the time regarding being cast as the Like Water For Chocolate lead, so she seriously got spooked when someone out of the blue messaged her about it. As she continued:

You can watch Azul Guaita’s hilarious anecdote in the video at the top of the article. As she told the story, her co-star Chaparro laughed in disbelief as she didn’t know who Salma was referring to. However, for a new talent like Guaita, she probably never thought Salma Hayek would ever directly text message her.

I spoke to the cast of Like Water For Chocolate virtually from Mexico right after they reunited with Salma Hayek (also virtually) to talk about working on the new series at a press conference spoken in Spanish. Hayek called the predominantly female cast her “goddesses” upon entering the event. She shared that she loves the 1992 film, but she felt making the series gave them “more opportunity” to adapt the book more thoroughly and is “very proud” of the casting.

For those who’ve yet to read the book or movie, Like Water For Chocolate, the romance can be compared to watching the Keira Knightley Pride and Prejudice movie. It follows Tita, the youngest of three sisters who are living in early 1900s Mexico during the Mexican Revolution. Since childhood, she’s shared a bond with a man named Pedro, but when he asks for her hand, her mother shares with him that she is not allowed to marry because she had previously decided she would take care of her until she dies. Pedro agrees to instead marry her sister Rosaura to be close to Tita.

Some things only get better with age and apparently, we can add Salma Hayek to that list alongside fine wine. The actress recently enjoyed a lovely vacation and she’s stunning fans with bikini pictures. While she’s also poking a bit of fun at herself and her white hair, it’s difficult to imagine anybody is noticing the hair when looking at these pictures.

The pictures do perhaps give us a look at Salma Hayek a bit more candidly than we’re perhaps used to seeing. The actress is among those who often don’t appear to age at all, so seeing her with a bit of gray in her hair is fairly unusual. Hayek has credited meditation with her continuing to look young. I guess when you’re on vacation you can forego the normal practice of coloring your hair.

Hayek will turn 58 years old next week, and last year she posted even more bikini pictures to celebrate her birthday. Even with the hair Salma Hayek still looks incredible for her age to the point where it’s hard to believe she’s as old as she is. Last week she posted a throwback picture celebrating the birthday of her Fools Rush In co-star, the late Matthew Perry. That movie was nearly three decades ago but you’d never know it from the way the actress looks.

Salma Hayek will next be seen in the new movie from director Angelina Jolie, Without Blood. The movie is set to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. This duo counts two megahits in their joint credits, with Awkwafina and Everything Everywhere All At Once Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh both having starred in Crazy Rich Asians (and we’re still waiting for that rom-com sequel) and the MCU entry Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Michelle Yeoh And Jackie Chan

Michelle Yeoh has been a star for several decades, and part of that reason is because of her breakout role in the 1992’s Supercop, which also starred Jackie Chan. But, they’ve made a number of other films with each other, including Supercop 2, and Hong Kong action films Twinkle, Twinkle, Lucky Stars, Project S, and both voiced characters in Kung Fu Panda 2, along with having starred in a 1984 watch commercial together.

Angela Bassett And Laurence Fishburne

While Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne were famously nominated for Oscars for their lead roles as Tina Turner and Ike Turner in 1993’s What’s Love Got to Do with It?, the duo was actually first together on screen for Boyz n the Hood in ‘91. They then later teamed up for Akeela and the Bee in 2006.

Everyone knows them for making Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail hits, but before all of that, they led one of the weirder rom-coms made with Joe Versus the Volcano, and reunited for the 2016 drama Ithaca, which Ryan directed.

Drew Barrymore And Adam Sandler

People often mention Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler as an acting duo they want to see more of and with good reason. The two have made magic in the classics The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates and Blended.

This pairing goes back decades, to the time when Adam Sandler and Chris Rock starred on Saturday Night Live together in the ‘90s. Jane Fonda And Robert Redford

Dedicated film fans probably know that legends Jane Fonda and Robert Redford starred together in Barefoot in the Park and The Electric Horseman, but their joint movie appearances do go beyond that. As you can see, film history is packed with acting duos who’ve worked together more than once, and that will probably always be the case.

Despite a limited number of seasons and episodes, Black Mirror has, since the beginning, killed it with its casting. The Charlie Brooker-led show has landed some of the biggest stars in the world for episodes and chooses some of the best character actors from both sides of the pond as well. Here are 32 casting examples that prove Black Mirror crushes it. 

Daniel Kaluuya

Before Daniel Kaluuya hit the really big time with break-out roles in Get Out and Black Panther, he had a role in just the second episode of Black Mirror, called "Fifteen Million Merits." Kaluuya played a low-level bike rider looking to escape his boring life by performing in a reality TV show. It's a powerful performance and helped set the tone for the series. 

Hayley Atwell

Season 2 of  Black Mirror started with a bang, with an episode called "Be Right Back" starring Hayley Atwell and Domhnall Gleeson in a real mind-bending episode about a couple with a classic Black Mirror twist. 

Jon Hamm

In between Season 1 and Season 2, Black Mirror aired a Christmas special featuring its first big American star, Mad Men's Jon Hamm. It's a super disturbing episode in a ton of ways, not the least of which is just how evil Hamm's character turns out to be. 

Bryce Dallas Howard

Season 3 marked a big change for the show when it moved to Netflix. It also started with a band with the episode "Nosedive" starring Bryce Dallas Howard. It felt a first like a different take on the general premise of Black Mirror, being brighter and seemingly more upbeat. But that didn't last long, of course, and Howard's performance made it all work perfectly. 

Kelly MacDonald

Kelly Mac Donald isn't often the star of her projects but she is consistently excellent in everything she is in. She does star in one episode of Black Mirror, the Season 3 episode "Hated In The Nation" which is the show's take on a police procedural, with  MacDonald playing the main investigator. 

Salma Hayek

There are few stars bigger than the great Salma Hayak and her role in the episode "Joan Is Awful" in the Sixth Season is just perfect. She plays a version of herself, playing the character Joan and her no-BS attitude is just pitch-perfect. 

Jesse Plemons

The first episode of Season 4, "USS Callister" often ranks among the best episodes of Black Mirror, and a big reason why is the performances of the actors in the episode. There is no character more important than manipulative Captain Robert Daly played wonderfully by Jesse Plemons. 

Andrew Scott

Andrew Scott elevates basically everything he is in. Whether it's shows like Sherlock and Fleabag or movies like 1917, he also turns in one of the most memorable performances. Black Mirror is no exception. While the episode he appears in, "Smithereens" isn't well regarded among fans, there's no denying that Scott's performance is excellent and even earned him an Emmy nomination. 

Anthony Mackie

Anthony Mackie has never shied away from playing Gay men, with his first breakout role coming as a Gay art student in the film Brother to Brother. His role in Black Mirror wasn't quite as clear cut, as he played a man clearly struggling with his feelings and identity in the Season 5 episode "Striking Vipers." 

Kate Mara

The Season 6 episode, "Beyond the Sea," is one of the more messed up episodes of Black Mirror and that's really saying something. Kate Mara stars in the show as a woman trapped in the middle of a love triangle by two astronauts, one her husband, and one her suitor. It's a polarizing episode, like many, but there's no question it's as disturbing as the show can get. 

Miley Cyrus

In the final episode of Season 5, Miley Cyrus stars as Ashley O, a pop star not unlike her real-life self. Of all the Black Mirror episodes, it's maybe the least disturbing, but that really makes it underrated, if anything. It still makes the viewer question modern culture and tech, it just doesn't end in tragedy. 

Topher Grace

In Smithereens, Topher Grace plays a Jack Dorsey-type tech CEO who leads a social media company. While the episode is often criticized for its simplistic social commentary, by Black Mirror standards, Grace's performance is actually pretty perfect. All the acting performances are great in this uneven performance. 

Letitia Wright

Letitia Wright had been building a solid career in the U.K. before 2018 when she exploded on the world stage with her appearance in Black Panther. Prior to becoming a big part of the MCU, however, she starred in the Season 4 finale, "Black Museum." It's a fun episode with an almost greatest hits-type vibe, as it's filled with easter eggs to previous episodes. 

Benedict Wong

Benedict Wong has low-key become one of the most popular side characters in the MCU as... well... Wong. The same year he joined the MCU, in 2016's Doctor Strange, he also starred in the Season 3 episode "Hated in the Nation." He has a smaller role in the show compared to some of the other stars (like Kelly MacDonald) but he's great, as he always is in his many roles. 

Aaron Paul

Aaron Paul will likely forever be known first and foremost as Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad. There's nothing wrong with that, but Paul has had an impressive career outside of the legendary AMC show as well. One very notable role came in Season 6 of Black Mirror when he appeared alongside Josh Harnett and Kate Mara in "Beyond the Sea." It wasn't Paul's first appearance on the show, however. He had a quick cameo in "USS Callister" during the show's 4th Season. 

Zazie Beetz

Zazie Beetz hit the big time as a member of the hit show Atlanta starting in 2016. She later gained an even larger fanbase as Domino in Deadpool 2. In 2023, she got to star in an episode of Black Mirror called "Mazey Day" which broke new ground for the show, dipping into the supernatural for the first time. Though it wasn't the most well-received episode of the series, Beetz put together a great performance as a paparazza. 

Josh Harnett

Over the last 25 years, Josh Harnett has quietly put together one of the most underrated careers in Hollywood. He's played all kinds of roles, from heartthrobs to nuclear physicists. Of course, he also appeared as part of the star-studded cast of "Under The Sea" in Season 6. 

Michael Cera

Michael Cera has never been afraid to play ridiculous versions of himself. Most notably, in This Is The End, but also in the Season 6 episode "Joan is Awful." Everyone in the episode is playing some sort of version of themselves and Cera, as the character Beppe is, of course, over the top in his performance and we're here for it. 

Tobias Menzies

As character actors go, they don't get much better than Tobias Menzies. The English actor seems to pop up constantly in "prestige" shows. He was Brutus in HBO's Rome, he was Edmund Tully in Game of Thrones and he won an Emmy for playing Prince Philip in two seasons of The Crown. In the second season of Black Mirror, he played a British politician running for office against an animated bear named Waldo in "The Waldo Moment."

Domhnall Gleeson

Sure, Domhnall Gleeson is part of two of the biggest franchises in film history as a member of the Weasley family in the Harry Potter movies and General Hux in the Star Wars movies, but he's also been one of the best actors around for a couple of decades now. He appeared in the first episode of Season 2, "Be Right Back."

Wyatt Russell

Even though he has two very famous actors as parents, Wyatt Russell originally strived to play professional hockey. When injuries cut his career short, he fell back on acting. Lucky, huh? Still, he's putting together a really nice career, one that includes an appearance in the 2016 episode "Playtest."

Jodie Whittaker

Jodie Whittaker made history when she became the first woman to play The Doctor in three seasons of the modern era of Dr. Who. That wasn't Whittaker's first dabble in  science fiction TV, however, as she appeared in the third-ever episode of Black Mirror called "The Entire History of You." She is excellent in the episode, which ranks tops all-time on quite a few rankings. 

Jerome Flynn

One of the most disturbing episodes of Black Mirror came in its third season. "Shut Up and Dance" is a complicated episode, as viewers are repulsed by the characters, including, most notably, the one played by Game Of Thrones vet Jerome Flynn. Viewers are also taken aback by what those terrible characters have to do. It's a polarizing episode, but that's part of what makes it so great. 

Rory Kinnear

There are two roles that Rory Kinnear is likely most recognized for. One is Bill Tanner in four of the Daniel Craig-era James Bond movies. He's one of the most important characters from the Craig-led Bond films. The second is from the now-legendary premiere episode of Black Mirror called "The National Anthem." His performance as the beleaguered Prime Minister forced to do unspeakable things in the episode is, frankly, legendary.  

Rupert Everett

Rupert Everett has been killing on screen for more than 40 years now and though his role in the second episode of Season 1 is small, he's brilliant. He plays a Simon Cowell-type on a dystopian version of Britain's Got Talent and he, like Cowell, steals the show as a judge. 

Cherry Jones

Season 3's first episode, "Nosedive" is a fantastic episode, and a big reason why is the acting performances, including from Cherry Jones, who appears in only one scene of the show, but it's the pivotal moment in the show. Jones is one of the more underrated character actresses in Hollywood, but she's probably best known for playing President Allison Taylor on 24 and Holly Maddox in two seasons of The Handmaid's Tale. 

Oona Chaplin

Oona Chaplin comes from a family of true film royalty. Her grandfather was the legendary Charlie Chaplin. She's carved out an impressive career as well. She's best known as Talisa Stark, the ill-fated wife of Robb Stark in Game of Thrones, where she was the first death at the infamous Red Wedding. She stars alongside Jon Hamm in the Christmas special of Black Mirror in a smaller role, literally and figuratively, but her performance is sure to freak out everyone who watches. 

Jimmi Simpson

It's hard to believe that Always Sunny In Philadelphia first hit the airwaves in 2005, but it did. Jimmi Simpson has been along for most of the ride, as the oddball frenemy to "The Gang" and member of the McPoyle family, Liam McPoyle. He also appeared one of the most star-studded casts of Black Mirror in the "USS Callister."

Annie Murphy

Annie Murphy is most famous for playing Alexis Rose in Schitt's Creek and in 2023 she appeared as a strange version of herself playing "Joan" in "Joan in Awful" alongside Salma Hayek in the sixth season.  

Kirsten Dunst

"USS Callister" has one of the more star-studded casts and one of the stars you may not have even seen, Kirsten Dunst. Dunst's cameo in Black Mirror is truly a blink--and-you-miss-moment in the episode. She appears as a fellow office worker in the show and it's so brief most people missed it. 

Cristin Milioti

The multi-talented Cristin Milioti started her career on the stage on Broadway where she became a Tony-nominated actress, but made her on-screen breakthrough as "The Mother" in How I Met Your Mother. Since then, she's shined in shows like Fargo, The Resort, and The Mindy Project, as well as starring in "USS Callister" in Black Mirror. 

Will Poulter

Will Poulter seems to like showing in prestige TV shows. In addition to starring in the groundbreaking interactive "choose your own adventure" Black Mirror movie called Bandersnatch, he's also shown up in a cameo on The Bear. That's in addition, of course, to his film roles in The Revenant, Midsommar, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3., among many others. 

Some of our best horror movies have been centered around characters who just so happen to be legendary creatures of the night: vampires. And, because of the enduring popularity of these mythological bloodsuckers, not only do we also have a number of TV vamps, but many famous actors who’ve portrayed some version of the famed, usually-human-looking beasts. Eddie Murphy (Vampire In Brooklyn)

So many vamps have been seen on screen that even a comedy and action movie legend like Eddie Murphy has played one. The 1995 horror comedy, Vampire in Brooklyn, saw the star play the last member of a group of Caribbean vampires, who hits New York to find a mate so that he can continue his family line.

Tom Cruise (Interview With The Vampire)

Who could forget the 1994 film that gave us Tom Cruise as the captivating and cruel (And blond!) bloodthirsty fiend, Lestat de Lioncourt, from author Anne Rice’s legendary novel series, The Vampire Chronicles? Of course, it also gave us Brad Pitt’s tortured vamp, Louis, and made a star out of young Kirsten Dunst.

Dakota Fanning (The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse)

While there are some obvious stars to add to this list, let us not forget that the cast of famous (and soon-to-be-famous) vampires in The Twilight Saga films was quite stacked. That roster included noted child star Dakota Fanning, who portrayed the villainous Volturi guard member, Jane, who was able to mentally create sensations of pain in those who she deemed worthy of punishment.

Evan Rachel Wood (True Blood)

Several vampire-focused TV shows have hit the airwaves over the past 20 or so years, so we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the HBO hit, True Blood. Many of its stars portrayed members of vamp-kind for most or all of the series’ seven seasons, but Evan Rachel Wood made an equally impressive (bloody) splash as the Vampire Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne Leclerq, during her recurring guest appearances in Seasons 2-4.

Robert Pattinson (Twilight)

Back to Twilight! It’s not worth mentioning this franchise without bringing up lead romantic vamp Edward Cullen, as well as the man who brought him to life in five movies, eventuall live action Batman actor Robert Pattinson. Despite the fact that his love interest’s portrayer, Kristen Stewart, would have dumped Edward “immediately”!

Chloë Grace Moretz (Let Me In)

It’s possible that we don’t get creepier than kid vampires in movies and television shows, and that’s what we got with Chloë Grace Moretz’s Abby in the 2010 film, Let Me In. She befriends a young loner after moving into his apartment complex, but is (you guessed it) hiding nefarious purposes he could have never guessed, which end up taking his life in a most unexpected direction.

Salma Hayek (From Dusk Till Dawn)

This might be the shortest movie vampire appearance on the list, as 1996’s From Dusk Til Dawn saw Salma Hayek play the fanged exotic dancer, Santanico Pandemonium, only for about five memorable minutes that simply cannot be forgotten once witnessed.

Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows)

Undead life isn’t always filled with glamorous globe-hopping adventure, gorgeous mates who can’t resist you and other perks, at least according to 2014’s What We Do in the Shadows, which concerns the rather mundane day-to-day lives of vampire roommates, of whom Taika Waititi’s uptight and nearly 400-year-old vamp, Viago, is among.

Theo James (Underworld: Awakening, Underworld: Blood Wars)

Another big screen franchise that depended on heaps of stars to populate its supernatural world is that of Underworld. Two sequels saw Theo James play the heroic vampire, David, heir to one of the main vamp covens, and lead Selene’s one steadfast ally during an important time in her journey.

Willem Dafoe (Shadow Of The Vampire)

Not many cinematic vampires are said to be based on a real person, but the one played by Willem Dafoe in 2000’s Shadow of the Vampire is. He portrayed a fictionalized version of the real Nosferatu lead actor, Max Schreck, whom the crew begins to suspect is an actual vampire because of his behavior and the strange goings-on surrounding filming.

Gerard Butler (Dracula 2000)

Speaking of vampires who are based on real people…Author Bram Stoker based his Dracula on Vlad the Impaler, and Gerard Butler played yet another version of the ever-popular character in a film from, yes, 2000. This tale sees the ancient vamp accidentally awoken by a group of thieves who find and steal his highly protected coffin, which had been watched over by generations of the Van Helsing family.

Wesley Snipes (Blade)

A Marvel character that will soon have another portrayer when the upcoming Blade reboot finally begins filming, the original action/horror trilogy famously saw Wesley Snipes take on the vampire/human hybrid titular lead, who’s a nearly unstoppable vamp hunter bent on taking down all members of the species who bit his mother and infected him with their supernatural blood while he was still in utero.

Colin Farrell (Fright Night)

If a scary and suave undead night stalker is your type, look no further than Colin Farrell’s Jerry Dandrige in 2011’s remake of the 1985 cult classic, Fright Night. He may have to eventually do battle with a couple of teenagers, but he sure looks darn good doing it.

Ethan Hawke (Daybreakers)

A movie that takes a more science-fiction approach to a world overrun by vampires is the 2009 film Daybreakers, which sees Ethan Hawke play a vamp hematologist who refuses to drink human blood and is looking for a synthetic option to their usual meal of choice that will stop humanity from being wiped out by his more brutal peers.

Luke Evans (Dracula Untold)

Again with Dracula? Why, yes! This time, Luke Evans plays a Vlad the Impaler who only becomes a vampire to have the strength, speed and ferocity to turn back an invading army in an attempt to save the people of his kingdom. Does it work out for him? Well, yes…and no.

Kate Beckinsale (Underworld)

There’s no mentioning the Underworld franchise without giving respect to the main heroine, Kate Beckinsale’s Selene. In the first film she’s a vampire looking to destroy the werewolves that killed her family, but she ends up uncovering a major secret about the two sets of creatures and falling in love with a human, instead.

Alicia Silverstone (Vamps)

This 2012 horror comedy sees Alicia Silverstone play Goody, an old vampire who tries to stay young and hip while helping her much younger bloodsucking buddy, Stacy (Krysten Ritter), get used to her powers as they try to abstain from the red stuff during their immortal and unholy (sorta) lives.

Pedro Pascal (Bloodsucking Bastards)

Ever wondered what working in an office that was slowly being overrun by vampires who care as much about the bottom line as they do about drinking blood would be like? Just watch Bloodsucking Bastards, where beloved The Last of Us cast member Pedro Pascal begins turning his employees into the titular immortals.

Jim Carrey (Once Bitten)

Jim Carrey’s first leading role came in this 1985 comedy, where he played a teen virgin turned into a vampire by an alluring, 400-year-old creature of the night, who seduced him so she could use his blood to keep her youthful appearance.

Paul Reubens (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)

In the 1992 horror comedy that eventually led to the long-running series of the same name, the late Paul Reubens starred as Amilyn, a vamp doing the bidding of a much more powerful bloodsucker who’s ruling his kind in Los Angeles.

Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood)

While HBO’s True Blood was positively filled with the undead, few of them made as much of an impact on audiences (and the lead, Sookie) as Alexander Skarsgård’s cunning and alluring (but sorta evil) 1,000-year-old Eric Northman. This also happens to be the role that really made Skarsgård famous.

David Boreanaz (Buffy, Angel)

When it comes to popular TV vampires, no one can discount the reign of David Boreanaz as evil vamp turned heroic vamp (and then sometimes evil vamp again) Angel, whom he played on Buffy the Vampire Slayer beginning with the first episode in 1997, through wrapping his run on the fifth season series finale of his own show, Angel, in 2004.

Sterling K. Brown (Supernatural)

Sterling K. Brown may best be known now for delivering heartfelt emotions as Randall Pearson on This Is Us, but for four episodes across Seasons 2 and 3 of the CW mega-hit, Supernatural, he played Hunter and dedicated vamp-hater-turned-vampire, Gordon Walker, to astounding, understandably cold-blooded effect.

Kiefer Sutherland (The Lost Boys)

Even though Kiefer Sutherland was certainly a star on the rise by the time he starred in The Lost Boys in 1987, his part as apparent vampire motorcycle gang leader David cemented his leading man qualities and turned him into a household name.

Rami Malek (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part II)

Sure, Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the best Rami Malek movies to watch, but let’s not discount his turn as the powerful (and ancient) Egyptian vampire, Benjamin, in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part II, one of the few creatures of the night in the franchise who can directly manipulate things, with his specialty being controlling fire, water, air and earth.

Bryce Dallas Howard (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse)

Yet another actor you may have forgotten was fanged in the expansive Twilight franchise is Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard. She took over the role of evil, vengeful vamp Victoria (who’s looking to kill Bella in retaliation for Edward killing her love, James) from Rachelle Lefevre, for the third movie, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive)

As one half of the very old vampire couple at the center of the 2013 dramedy, Only Lovers Left Alive, Tilda Swinton is a wife forced to visit the husband (played by Tom Hiddleston) she’s long been separated from once she realizes his lengthy undead existence has begun to bring him down, as she tries to force him to reevaluate the value of living forever.

Bill Nighy (Underworld, Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans)

Every good vampire needs a parental figure to show them the ropes, and for Underworld’s Selene, that role was filled by Viktor, who was portrayed by Love, Actually star Bill Nighy. His Vampire Elder turned out to be more of a threat than the heroine ever expected, though, leading to some tense moments between Selene and her mentor.

Gary Oldman (Bram Stoker's Dracula) 

Back to Drac! One of the most popular films about the character is still 1992’s Bram Stoker's Dracula, which saw eventual Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban star Gary Oldman play Vlad Dracula.

Christopher Meloni (True Blood)

Where there is one vampire there are generally enough to have a whole hierarchy among their brethren, and as with the series True Blood, sometimes we get to see what that could look like. In Season 5, Law & Order: SVU and Organized Crime star Christopher Meloni portrayed the Guardian, Roman Zimojic, who led the Vampire Authority and (ostensibly) set the rules for all vamps. Many, however, didn’t agree with his desire to have his kind fit in with human society, which caused a lot of problems for the calm, determined and deadly when challenged leader.

Nicolas Cage (Renfield)

If you guessed that this is yet another Dracula story, well, you’re sort of correct. 2023’s horror comedy, Renfield, stars Nicholas Hoult as the count’s titular long-time familiar, who’s tired of helping him kill innocent people and all the abuse he’s taken from the being who gifted him with immortality, as well as super strength and speed (when he eats bugs) 90 years prior. So, he gets help from a support group for people in codependent relationships in order to be able to live his own life again. Nicolas Cage is our Dracula here, and he’s a perfectly winking one, who still manages to be creepy and deadly.

Johnny Depp (Dark Shadows)

Johnny Depp has become known for his outrageous characters, and his Barnabas Collins is no different. The 2012 Dark Shadows film (which was based on the 1966-1971 gothic daytime drama of the same name) follows Barnabas after he’s cursed with vampirism in 1760, buried alive in a coffin, and then accidentally freed in the early 1970s. He rejoins the Collins family at the estate they still hold, while trying to keep his true nature a secret, but hijinks ensue as his past comes back to haunt them.

With Ramy Youssef blowing up in both the worlds of TV and movies, and long careers like Tony Shalhoub’s and Salma Hayek’s being considered iconic, Arab representation in the world of comedy has been getting better and better. So, with that in mind, it’s time to give out flowers to some of these amazing comedic actors by highlighting their best films and shows.

Ramy Youssef

Ramy Youssef is a prolific stand-up comedian and actor who was born in New York City, and grew up in New Jersey. The Egyptian-American is probably best known as the creator, writer, producer and star of one of A24’s best shows, Ramy. The series follows Youssef as the titular character, while he grapples with his faith while living between the worlds of his Muslim community and his group of millennial friends who think “life has no consequences,” as Hulu’s synopsis of the show states. 

After two seasons of Ramy, Youssef’s career really took off. Along with directing an episode of The Bear during Season 2,  he also executive produced the Netflix series Mo and voiced a character in Disney’s Wish. 

Notably, he was also part of the ensemble for the critically acclaimed Poor Things. The film from Yorgos Lanthimos, where Youssef plays the man Emma Stone’s Bella Baxter is betrothed to, ended up winning four Oscars and people fell in love with it.

Since that film, the comedian has released a new stand-up special – Ramy Youssef: More Feelings – and he joined the ranks of Saturday Night Live’s Season 49 hosts.

Tony Shalhoub

Tony Shalhoub’s parents emigrated from Lebanon to the United States, and he grew up in Wisconsin before becoming an actor. These days we know him best as the beloved Adrian Monk – whom he played on Monk from 2002 to its finale in 2009, and  returned to play again in Peacock's 2023 movie, Mr. Monk’s Last Case. 

Over the course of his career, Shalhoub has received 12 Emmy nominations and won four times, three of those wins were for Monk and the other came from the acclaimed comedy, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

In the Amazon Prime comedy that tells the perfect story of a woman finding her independence, Shalhoub plays our protagonist Midge’s father, Abe. He is full of hilarious one-liners and sass, and it’s just further proof that Tony Shalhoub is a living comedy legend.

Alia Shawkat

Iraqi-American actress Alia Shawkat burst onto our screens when Arrested Development premiered in 2003. Starring alongside the iconic Arrested Development cast that included Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Tony Hale and more, she played George-Michael’s cousin and crush, Maeby Fünke in both the OG series and its revival on Netflix. 

Showing off her comedy chops again, Shawkat starred in HBO’s Search Party from 2016 to 2022 playing Dory Sief, a woman who (in Season 1) sets out to find her missing college friend. Following Season 1, a new mystery unfolds with each installment, and overall, it’s a dark, creative and off-beat comedy.

Adding to her already impressive filmography, Alia Shawkat has also voiced characters in animated series like Summer Camp Island and Big Mouth, and she’s starred in films like The To Do List and Whip It.

Mo Amer

Mo Amer is a well-known Palestinian-American stand-up comedian, who has started taking on more scripted opportunities. Along with starring in 27 episodes of Ramy alongside Ramy Youssef, he also created, produced and led his own Netflix series, Mo. 

During an interview with CinemaBlend, Amer explained that Mo allowed him to tell his Palestinian refugee story in a way that stand-up couldn’t, as it draws from his own life growing up in Houston, Texas. 

Along with Mo and Ramy, Amer also has a stand-up special called The Vagabond, and he starred in the films Black Adam and Sweet Dreams. Overall, this comedian is just getting started!

Salma Hayek 

Mexican-Lebanese actress Salma Hayek has received lots of love for her dramatic performances in movies like Frida and Desperado. However, she’s also a comedy queen.

In 2010, she starred alongside Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock and David Spade in Grown Ups, playing the Sandman’s wife, Roxanne Chase-Feder. Along with performing alongside these comedy legends in this film and its sequel, she also brought the comedy in Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, which she led with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson.

Overall, Hayek has proved time and time again that she can do any project, and it’s always such a treat when we get to see her comedy skills in action.

Nasim Pedrad

Nasim Pedrad, an Iranian-American actress, made a name for herself during her tenure as part of some of Saturday Night Live’s best casts. From 2009 to 2014, she starred in five seasons of the legendary sketch comedy show and it showed off her range as a brilliant comedian. 

After SNL, Pedrad went on to guest star in shows like New Girl, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Big Mouth. 

Most notable, though, is her role as the titular 14-year-old boy in the comedy she co-created, Chad. She’s made two seasons of the show so far, and she wears multiple hats in the production, serving as the co-creator, producer and writer as well as star.

Kathy Najimy

The Sanderson sisters will always be iconic, and so will Kathy Najimy. The Lebanese-American actress played Mary Sanderson alongside Bette Midler’s Winifred and Sarah Jessica Parker’s Sarah in Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2. To this day, it’s one of her most beloved roles and one of the best fun Halloween movies. 

Keeping the iconic roles going, Najimy also played Mary Parick alongside Whoopi Goldberg in the 1992 comedy, Sister Act, and its sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. 

This comedic actress really left her mark on the ‘90s, and to this day her work is beloved as more and more people discover these legendary films.

Rami Malek

Now, I realize we know Rami Malek for movies and shows like Bohemian Rapsody and Mr. Robot. He tends to take on the more dramatic parts. However, have you ever seen the Egyptian-American actor’s episode of Saturday Night Live? It’s hilarious!

Season 47, Episode 3 of SNL was led by the Oscar winner, and it gave us wonderful sketches like “Rami Wants a Treat,” “Angelo” and “Bug Assembly.” 

On top of that, Malek’s first big movie was Night at the Museum, where he played Ahkmenrah, and he was incredibly charming and funny. 

Basically, what I’m saying is Malek is an actor with major range, and he should do more comedy!

Over the years we’ve been seeing more and more movies and TV shows with great Arab-American representation, and these actors are a big reason why. Along with all these projects, they have all had wonderful careers that are still thriving, and we can’t wait to see what they do next!

The top actors in Hollywood make a lot of money, but anyone will tell you that the real money is in production. That means that many of the biggest stars in the world have formed their own companies to produce both their own films and other projects that interest them. 

Often, these company names and logos appear at the beginning of the movies, along with larger, more recognizable studios like Paramount and Disney. Here is a list of many of the actors with their own production companies, along with the name of the company to look out for. 

Jordan Peele - Monkeypaw Productions

Jordan Peele has become one of the most exciting and interesting directors and producers in recent years. His Monkeypaw Productions has produced or co-produced his own movies, like Get Out, Us, and Nope, as well as other films like Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman, and Adamma Ebo's Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul.

Tom Hanks - Playtone

Tom Hanks' Playtone has been wildly successful on the big and small screens. With movies starring Hanks like Cast Away, Charlie Wilson's Way, The Polar Express, and Greyhound, as well as films not starring him, like Mamma Mia and its sequel, the company keeps winning. It has also hit it big on TV with shows like Band of Brothers, The Pacific, and John Adams on HBO, and the CNN series about each decade of the last 60 years. 

Elizabeth Banks - Brownstone Productions

Elizabeth Banks has been on a hot streak with her company Brownstone Productions. It's most notable for the Pitch Perfect franchise, but the company has also co-produced movies like 2019's Charlie's Angels, and that surprise 2023 hit about a bear that gets into something it should not have in the woods, with scary (and hilarious) results. 

Reese Witherspoon - Pacific Standard

When Reese Witherspoon started Pacific Standard in 2012, she did so with the express purpose of highlighting and producing projects with strong female leads, crews, and topics. So far, it's been a huge success with films like Gone Girl and Wild, as well as TV shows like The Morning Show, and Big Little Lies. 

Adam Sandler - Happy Madison Productions

Adam Sandler movies are not for everyone, but wow, do they make him a lot of money through his company, Happy Madison. Though the two films it's named after Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison were not his productions, almost everything he's been in since 2000 is, and it continues to make a ton of money for the actor. The company has even dabbled in TV, most notably with The Goldbergs.

Drew Barrymore - Flower Films

Drew Barrymore's company, Flower Films, has produced or co-produced a ton of movies since she founded it in 1999. With movies like Donnie Darko, 50 First Dates, Fever Pitch, and the Charlie's Angels franchise, it is safe to assume Barrymore has made a pretty penny. Of course, it also produces her daytime talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show. 

Queen Latifah - Flavor Unit Entertainment

Queen Latifah's Flavor Unit Entertainment started out producing movies with moderate budgets that she starred in, like The Cookout and Beauty Shop, but these days, it's been successful on TV with her show, The Equalizer.

George Clooney - Smokehouse Pictures

Smokehouse Pictures is the second company founded by George Clooney after he shut down Section Eight Productions in 2006. Most movies he's starred in or directed since 2008 have been produced under the Smokehouse banner, including Leatherheads, Monuments Men, and The Boys In The Boat, plus other projects like Ocean's 8 and Argo.

Sandra Bullock - Fortus Films

Sandra Bullock may not be acting as much these days, but her production company, Fortus Films, is still humming along. Through the company, Bullock has produced movies like Miss Congeniality and its sequel, Two Weeks Notice, and The Lost City.

Courteney Cox - Coquette Productions

Friends star Courteney Cox and her ex-husband David Arquette started Coquette Productions together in 2004. The business relationship continued after the couple split six years later, though they haven't actually produced much in recent years. 

Brad Pitt - Plan B Entertainment

Plan B Entertainment was started by Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, and producer Brad Grey in 2001. In 2004, Pitt and Grey bought Aniston out in the midst of her split from Pitt. Since then, the company has gone on to major success, with three of its movies, The Departed, 12 Years a Slave and Moonlight all winning Best Picture Oscars, with seven others receiving nominations for the award. 

Sterling K. Brown - Indian Meadows Productions

This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown named his production Indian Meadows Productions after the name of the neighborhood he grew up in outside St. Louis. Though it's just getting started, there are some interesting things on the way as Brown's star continues to shine brightly. 

Margot Robbie - LuckyChap Productions

Margot Robbie may have gotten snubbed at the 2024 Oscars for Barbie, but you can be sure she wasn't snubbed out of money as one of the producers of the hit movie. Robbie's company, LuckyChap Productions, has also produced movies Robbie starred in like I, Tonya and Birds of Prey as well as other projects she didn't star in like Saltburn and Promising Young Woman.

Leonardo DiCaprio - Appian Way Productions

Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way Productions produced two Oscar-winners with The Aviator (which won five) and The Revenant (which won three, including Best Actor for DiCaprio). Through the company, DiCaprio not only produced feature films, but documentaries, as well. 

Nicole Kidman - Blossom Films

While Nicole Kidman's Blossom Films has dabbled in movies, most notably the 2011 rom-com Monte Carlo with Selena Gomez, it has found its biggest successes on the small screen. With shows like Big Little Lies, The Undoing, Nine Perfect Strangers, and 2024's Expats. 

Michael Douglas

Further Films, founded by Michael Douglas, doesn't have the portfolio that others may have on this list, as they seem to have found a niche in thrillers and suspense films like Swimfan, Don't Say a Word, 2017's Flatliners, and the streaming show Ratched.

Natalie Portman - Handsomecharlie Films

Natalie Portman named her company, Handsomecharlie Films, after her beloved dog, and she's put together a nice run of movies. She's produced many of her own projects, like No Strings Attached and Jane Got a Gun, as well as a surprise that she didn't star in, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. 

Eddie Murphy - Eddie Murphy Productions

Eddie Murphy started betting on himself early in his career through Eddie Murphy Productions and it has paid off, big time. Starting with Raw in 1987, the company has produced some huge movies for the legendary comedian, including Coming To America, Harlem Nights, Boomarang, The Nutty Professor, and Norbit. 

Barbra Streisand - Barwood Films

Barbra Streisand has produced many of her own projects through her company, Barwood Films. 1976's A Star Is Born, The Prince Of Tides, and Yentl are a few of the examples of her biggest successes. Barwood has also dabbled in TV movies, like the groundbreaking What Makes a Family in 2001, about a lesbian couple having a child together. 

Alec Baldwin - El Dorado Pictures

Alec Baldwin's El Dorado Pictures has been in the news a lot in recent years due to its connection to Rust and the tragic events that occurred on set. Baldwin has produced quite a few of his own projects through the company over the years and even got into the TV game show space with the revival of Match Game, which he also hosted. 

Tina Fey - Little Stranger

Tina Fey has one of the sharpest wits in Hollywood, so it's no surprise she would use those same brains to produce. From critically acclaimed movies like 2024's Mean Girls to wildly successful TV shows including 30 Rock and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Fey, and her company Little Stranger, continue to crush it. 

Laurence Fishburne - Cinema Gypsy Productions

The biggest success Laurence Fishburne and his company Cinema Gypsy Productions has seen thus far is the sitcom black-ish, but he's also produced some great movies of his own that have flown under the radar, but are worth checking out, in Five Fingers and Akeelah and the Bee.

Jodie Foster - Egg Pictures

It's no surprise that an actor and director like Jodie Foster, who has been in show business for basically all of her life, would be a producer as well. Through her Egg Pictures production company, she produced many of her own projects, starting with Nell in 1994 and Home for the Holidays in 1995. She closed the company in 2002 when she decided that producing wasn't for her. 

Clint Eastwood - Malpaso Films

Without question, one of the most successful companies on this list is Malpaso Films, founded by Clint Eastwood. It has served as the production company for almost all of the films Eastwood has directed and its history stretches back to the mid-1960s. Many of his classic films, including Unforgiven, The Bridges of Madison County, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Dirty Harry, Escape from Alcatraz, Million Dollar Baby, Sully, and many more have all been produced or co-produced by Malpaso. 

Halle Berry - 606 Films

Halle Berry's 606 Films has an interesting origin story. Though it was formed as part of her deal to star in Extant, the name has an important meaning. She named it after CA Senate Bill 606, a law intended to protect celebrities' children from the paparazzi.

It was an important issue for Berry, and when the company was formed, her partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, said, "606 Films is named for the anti-paparazzi bill, Senate Bill 606, which Halle fought so hard for and won, when no one believed it could be achieved. It truly informs the spirit of our company — making dreams possible, one bill at a time."

Mel Gibson - Icon Productions

Mel Gibson is not the most universally loved man in Hollywood, to be sure, but he's often bet on himself with his Icon Films, and more times than not, it's worked. Since 1989, he's financed many of his own projects completely through Icon, making movies like Hacksaw Ridge, The Passion of the Christ, and We Were Soldiers, plus co-producing maybe his most iconic movie, Braveheart. 

Salma Hayek - Ventanarosa Productions

Ventanarosa Productions, founded by Salma Hayek in 1999 has most often focused on Latin-centric projects, including Hayek's own Frida and the hit TV show, Ugly Betty. Ventanarosa also works throughout Latin America, producing Spanish-language films and TV. 

Will Smith - Overbrook Entertainment

Will Smith grew up in the West Philly neighborhood of Overbrook, which he took for the name of his production company as well, Overbrook Entertainment. Through it, Smith has produced many of his own projects, starting with Ali in 2001. King Richard, for which he infamously won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2022, was also produced by Overbrook. On the small screen, the Netflix hit Cobra Kai is an Overbrook production, as well. 

Amy Poehler - Paper Kite Productions

Amy Poehler's Paper Kite Production has dabbled in movies, but most of its success has been on TV and streaming. With shows like Russian Doll, and Broad City, you can see that Poehler likes sticking with what she knows, comedy. You might be surprised, though, that the company has also found success with reality TV and even feature length documentaries.

Danny DeVito - Jersey Films

Danny DeVito is obviously proud of his New Jersey roots, naming his production company Jersey Films. He also has to be proud of the output from the company with films like Pulp Fiction and Get Shorty. He's found a lot of success on TV too, with Reno 911! Another of Jersey's films, Erin Brockovich, was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 2001.

Charlize Theron - Denver And Delilah Productions

Denver and Delilah Productions' first film was Monster, starring the company's founder, Charlize Theron. That seems to have inspired a bit of a theme, as the company has produced other serial killer-related projects, like Netflix's show Mindhunters, and the HBO docuseries Last Call: When a Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York. There are also a few non-serial killer films, like Bombshell, Atomic Blonde, and Murder Mystery.

Will Ferrell - Gary Sanchez Productions

Before Adam McKay and Will Ferrell had their falling out in 2019 and dissolved Gary Sanchez Productions, the company had been wildly successful, releasing some of the funniest movies and shows over the last couple of decades. Step Brothers, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Daddy's Home, Eastbound & Down, and Drunk History are just a few examples. Add to that a little HBO show called Succession, which has won just a few Emmys, and wow, what a success story. 

As this list shows, success as an actor often leads to success in production as well, so actors will continue to open up their own shops, and will continue to crush it, for sure. 

Fools Rush In is one of those romantic comedies that helped develop my love for the genre. I saw it many times as a child and teen. However, like many movies I loved when I was younger, I haven’t seen it in a while. Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek’s chemistry always made this a charming movie and a must-watch for me. It’s a shame that we didn’t get to see them team up for another movie, like many other great on-screen pairings. A Fools Rush In sequel about their daughter in the style of Father of the Bride could have been amazing.

With the recent passing of Matthew Perry, I wanted to rewatch the movie because I always considered it one of his best roles. It’s my favorite movie starring him, Fools Rush In not only reminded me how great Salma Hayek and he are in it — both for their comedy prowess and chemistry —, but I noticed that the movie presents a concept that I didn’t originally notice. 

It proposes the idea that Isabel and Alex are fated to be together. Let me explain. 

Warning Fools Rush In spoilers ahead. Proceed with caution. 

It’s A Movie About Destiny 

In their first conversation, Isabel talks about her belief in destiny. Alex isn’t convinced but it seems like Fools Rush In spends the rest of the film supporting Isabel’s theory. From their meeting to their second wedding it can all trace back to the idea that they were fated to meet and end up together. Even Alex’s company moving him from Japan to Las Vegas all ties back to the idea that everything that happened before and after they met led them to each other. Even Isabel ending her relationship seems to be a sign that it is their time to be together. 

Some of the great rom-coms play with the idea of two characters destined to be together. It’s a classic romantic comedy theme. Nevertheless, Fools Rush In is a little more subtle about this concept. It isn’t until the end of it that it knocks you over the head with the idea of destiny, especially when it comes to Alex and Isabel’s love story. 

They’re Pulled Toward Each Other After First Meeting 

Alex and Isabel meet and have this magical first night. It’s a night that pushes them away from their norm and allows them to behave out of character. Later, Isabel tries to cut ties with Alex only to return to him to let him know that she’s pregnant. The universe pushes them together, whether they choose to ignore it or not. 

The title of the movie implies that they’re being reckless for moving so quickly by getting married and having a child. And that’s how my younger self viewed it, but now it feels like they were just succumbing to what was supposed to happen. They fulfilled their destiny by taking a chance on their love story. Also, taking a chance on love comes with some foolish decisions. That’s part of its magic. 

Alex And Isabel Make It Work Despite Cultural Differences 

A lot of the humor in Fools Rush In comes from the clash of cultures between Isabel and Alex. She’s a free-spirited Mexican-American woman living in Las Vegas. He’s a by-the-book white man living in New York. They are very different people. This becomes even more clear with how they interact with each other’s families. 

Their different cultures create some obstacles, especially for Alex, but eventually, he learns to love and embrace her culture. Her family (mostly) also welcomed him with open arms. Later, his family begins to accept her as his wife. Fools Rush In shows that even if a couple has a lot of differences, they can make it work if they’re destined to be together. 

 Destiny trumps cultural clashes.  

The Obstacles Make Them Stronger As A Couple And As People

Alex and Isabel have many conflicts throughout their relationship. The major one is deciding to live in New York or Las Vegas. At first, these issues begin to create problems in their marriage, but they eventually make their union stronger. First, Isabel agrees to move to New York for Alex. By the end of the film, Alex agrees to live in Las Vegas for her. Compromise becomes the key to their happiness. 

The couple shows that they’re both scared of love. They’re both worried about completely giving themselves to each other. However, Isabel teaches Alex what it truly means to love someone and the importance of family. He grows into a better person because of her. 

Isabel also talks about her fears of loving Alex completely. However, she lets go of those doubts by the end of the movie. He becomes more carefree because of her and she becomes more bold with her heart because of him. Fools Rush In argues that if you’re meant to be with someone, you can overcome the obstacles. They will become a strength in the relationship 

All The Signs At The End Pointing Him Back To Her 

Fools Rush In goes full force on the idea of destiny at the end. Alex sees so many signs leading him back to Isabel, including the little girl who shares her name. Alex doesn’t believe in signs at the start of the movie, but he uses them as an excuse to find the woman he loves. 

If you subscribe to Isabel’s way of thinking, these are signs sending him back to her.

Their Worst Fears Happen And They Still End Up Together 

Isabel fears Alex leaving her, so she pushes him away. In many ways, I think Alex fears becoming like his best friend and getting a divorce. They both fear completely giving themselves to someone and getting hurt. All their fears come true but they still end up together. They are destined.

One can also argue that Fools Rush In also showcases that destiny and fate are only concepts. If you believe you’re meant to be with someone, you make it work no matter what. You don’t need signs to prove it. 

Fools Rush In is one of Salma Hayek’s best roles and a great film to watch as a romantic comedy and tribute to Matthew Perry.

Some of the biggest stars in Hollywood are also some of the most often snubbed by the Oscars when it comes to Best Actor and Actress Academy Awards. Legends like Harrison Ford, Jamie Lee Curtis, and many others have somehow had some of the most successful careers in film, but have only been nominated for one Academy Award in the acting categories. 

Harrison Ford - Nominated For Best Actor (Witness)

Harrison Ford is a national treasure, most everyone will agree. Everyone, it seems, except The Academy, as he has only ever nominated once, for 1985’s Witness. This actor has been in two of the biggest franchises in history, plus the two Jack Ryan movies and so much more. He should’ve been nominated for The Fugitive at least. 

Eddie Murphy - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (Dreamgirls)

Another icon of the late 20th Century and early 21st Century is Eddie Murphy, who has only been nominated once, for Dreamgirls in 2007. This is probably more testament to the Academy's apparent lack of appreciation for some of his best comedic performances because I dare you to find better ones in history than Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop or Coming To America. 

Gwyneth Paltrow - Nominated For Best Actress (Shakespeare In Love)

Gwyneth Paltrow will likely be a polarizing name on this list because the actor herself tends to be, but she’s had a number of wonderful performances over the years. Roles in The Talented Mr. Ripley, Emma, and The Royal Tenenbaums are all worthy of more consideration than she’s received over the years. She's earned just one nomination for Shakespeare in Love, for which she also won. 

Taraji P. Henson - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button)

Taraji P. Henson has been nominated for more than thirty acting awards across her sterling career. Somehow, only one of those was for an Academy Award. Her lone Oscar nomination was for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in 2008, and it’s frankly astounding that’s the only one. At a minimum, she should have been nominated for Hidden Figures alongside her cast-mate Octavia Spencer. Hopefully, this changes with her role in the upcoming remake of The Color Purple. 

Hugh Jackman - Nominated For Best Actor (Les Misérables)

Hugh Jackman is one award away from achieving EGOT status. The “O” is missing and shockingly he’s only been nominated once for an Oscar, for his performance in Les Misérables. The multi-talented Jackman has won so many awards, but is shut out yearly at the Academy Awards. The Oscars may not show much respect to comic book films, but everyone else does, and saying he should have been nominated for Logan isn’t a stretch, nor is saying it about his performance in The Greatest Showman.

Jamie Lee Curtis - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (Everything Everywhere All At Once)

Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the most versatile actors of her generation. Horror, comedy, drama, she does it all. And yet, she has little to show for it in terms of Oscar nominations. She finally was nominated (and won) for Everything Everywhere All At Once but where were the nominations for My Girl and A Fish Called Wanda?

Salma Hayek - Nominated For Best Actress (Frida)

It’s been more than two decades since Salma Hayek was first nominated for an Oscar, for 2001’s Frida and she’s not been nominated since. Hayek is an icon and one of the most beloved actors today, yet never seems to get the attention of the Academy. This is likely in part due to the discounting of action films, which have become Hayek’s bread and butter, but that doesn’t mean her performances in movies like Traffic and Beatriz at Dinner weren't worthy of attention.

Matthew McConaughey - Nominated For Best Actor (Dallas Buyers Club)

When Matthew McConaughey won the Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club after being nominated for the first and only time, he led his speech with his trademark “Alright, alright, alright” and while his role in Dazed and Confused is a classic, he certainly deserved nominations for other roles, like how about a nod for his supporting role in The Wolf Of Wall Street or his performance in the vastly underrated Mud?

Samuel L. Jackson - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (Pulp Fiction)

If there is anyone on the list that should be a perennial nominee, it’s Samuel L. Jackson. His lone nomination came from his unforgettable and meme-able turn in Pulp Fiction, but he’s an actor who steals every scene he's in, in a good way. Just his roles in Quentin Tarantino films alone, like Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight, are worthy of nominations, but it hasn’t happened, sadly. Thankfully for all of us, Jackson was given an honorary Oscar in 2021 for his contributions to film, which is some consolation. 

Uma Thurman - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (Pulp Fiction)

Speaking of Pulp Fiction, the Tarantino classic also led to Uma Thurman’s one and only Academy Award nomination. Despite being one of the biggest stars on the planet, Thurman seems to have no luck getting the attention of the Academy. One role that really stands out is in the under-appreciated Prime. 

Benedict Cumberbatch - Nominated For Best Actor (The Imitation Game)

One has to believe that more nominations will be coming for Benedict Cumberbatch. Thus far, his only acknowledgment from the Oscars was for his wonderful performance as Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. There are plenty of other roles he could have been nominated for, especially as William Bulger in Black Mass and Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate and that’s just the roles in which he’s played real people! 

Mark Wahlberg - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (The Departed)

In 1990, no one would have expected “Marky” Mark Wahlberg to appear on any kind of list like that, but almost 35 years later, it’s astounding his only Oscar nomination has been for The Departed (one of our picks for the 100 best movies of the 2000s). You have to question why he was ignored for Boogie Nights, for sure. The Fighter is another clear snub, though he was technically nominated for Best Picture as a producer of the film. 

Halle Berry - Nominated For Beat Actress (Monster's Ball)

When Halle Berry earned her one Oscar nomination for 2001’s Monster’s Ball, she was the odds-on favorite to win. She had become one of the biggest stars of the 1990s and now was her time to shine. She won, of course, but sadly, it would be the last time Berry would be nominated, so far, at least. It’s a shame because there are plenty of roles she’d be deserving of a nomination, like Frankie & Alice, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe.

Laurence Fishburne - Nominated For Best Actor (What's Love Got To Do With It)

This could be the most shocking on the list. At first thought, you might guess Laurence Fishburne was nominated for his amazing work as Furious Styles in Boyz n the Hood or Professor Phipps in John Singleton’s other masterpiece, Higher Learning. Alas, the Matrix star has only one nomination, for playing Ike Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It, and he didn’t win. 

Josh Brolin  - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (Milk)

Josh Brolin has been a favorite since he was a teenager in The Goonies. He’s also starred in some powerhouse movies, like Sicario and, most of all, No Country For Old Men. No Country won a slew of Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor for Javier Barden, and yet Brolin wasn’t even nominated. It frankly doesn’t make sense. Brolin’s lone nomination came from his wonderful performance in Milk, but that was the year that the late Heath Ledger won for The Dark Knight.

Sharon Stone - Nominated For Best Actress (Casino)

You could argue that while Sharon Stone was brilliant in Casino, it wasn’t even her best performance, though it’s the only time she’s been nominated. She wasn’t nominated for Basic Instinct, despite winning the Golden Globe for the role, nor for the underrated The Muse in 2000. At least we have Casino. 

Tilda Swinton - Nominated For For Best Supporting Actress (Michael Clayton)

2007's Michael Clayton was awash in acting nominations, including George Clooney for Best Actor and Tom Wilkinson for Best Supporting Actor. The only winner of the night, though, was Tilda Swinton for Best Supporting Actress. Over her incredible career, Swinton has been honored for other roles, like her parts in The Deep End, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and even Snowpiercer, but this remains her only Oscar nod. 

Liam Neeson - Nominated For Best Actor (Schindler’s List)

Long before Liam Neeson re-invented himself as an action star in summer blockbusters, he was a character actor carving out a nice career in film. Then came the epic Schindler's List. He was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor in a movie, though he lost out to Tom Hanks for Philadelphia. In the 30 years since, Neeson has not been nominated, not even for fantastic turns in The Gangs of New York, Michael Collins, or Rob Roy. For shame.  

Lupita Nyong'o - Nominated For Best Actress (12 Years A Slave)

Lupita Nyong'o burst onto the Hollywood scene with her heartbreakingly beautiful performance in 12 Years A Slave. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress and has since been racking up the accolades everywhere... except the Oscars. Despite well-received turns in Us and Queen of Katwe, not to mention her roles in the Black Panther films, she hasn't again been nominated. 

Sean Connery - Nominated For Best Supporting Actors (The Untouchables)

Sean Connery was one of the biggest movie stars in the world, and yet he was virtually ignored by the Academy for his whole career. Setting aside his brilliance as James Bond, Connery should’ve earned nods for The Hunt For Red October, and The Name Of The Rose, at least. Instead, his only nomination came for The Untouchables, which, thankfully, he won. 

Alec Baldwin - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (The Cooler)

Another fantastic performance in The Hunt for Red October that didn’t get recognition is Alec Baldwin’s as Jack Ryan. Baldwin could’ve been nominated for either of his two on-screen performances in 1992, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Prelude To A Kiss, but again he was snubbed. His only nomination came for his role in The Cooler.

Diane Lane - Nominated For Best Actress (Unfaithful)

Diane Lane found her footing in film in the late 1990s with outstanding performances in movies like A Walk on the Moon and The Perfect Storm, either of which could've been award-winning. Instead, it wasn't until 2002's Unfaithful that she got the recognition she deserved when she was nominated for Best Actress. 

Bill Murray - Nominated For Best Actor (Lost in Translation)

The Academy has missed out on great performances by one of the best comedic actors the world has ever seen in Bill Murray. Stripes, Ghostbusters, What About Bob?, and Groundhog's Day are some of the most beloved comedies of all time, and Murray was never recognized. Nor was he for his brilliant turns in Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums. Murray's sole nomination came, deservingly, for 2003's Lost In Translation. 

Jennifer Connelly - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (A Beautiful Mind)

Jennifer Connelly has been wowing audiences for decades, including in 2022's massive hit Top Gun: Maverick. It appears though, that she has not been wowing the Academy, as she's only ever been nominated for one Oscar, which she won, for her role in 2001's A Beautiful Mind. Other roles have earned her other awards, like her parts in Requiem For A Dream and The House of Sand and Fog, but to date, nothing from the Academy Awards. 

Kathleen Turner - Nominated For Best Actress (Peggy Sue Got Married)

Despite massive hits like Body Heat, Serial Mom, and of course, Romancing The Stone, Kathleen Turner has only earned one Oscar nomination, for the vastly underrated Francis Ford Coppola film from 1986, Peggy Sue Got Married. Surely this icon of the screen deserves more. 

Robert Redford - Nominated For Best Actor (The Sting)

It’s astounding that the great Robert Redford has only one acting nomination in his whole career, for The Sting. Though he defined what a movie star is, Redford never received Oscar attention for roles in All The President’s Men, All Is Lost, Out Of Africa, and Three Days of the Condor, among many others. The list is endless here. He has been nominated twice for Best Director, for Ordinary People and Quiz Show, and won for the former. Redford also received an Honorary Oscar in 2002.

Catherine Zeta-Jones - Nominated For Best Actress (Chicago)

At the 75th Academy Awards, Chicago was the biggest winner of the night, garnering 13 nominations and winning six of them, including Catherine Zeta-Jones for Best Actress. Alas, this, so far, is the only time the Welsh actress has even been nominated, despite powerhouse roles in Traffic and Entrapment. At least she shares this dubious distinction with her husband Michael Douglas. 

Micheal Douglas - Nominated For Best Actor (Wall Street)

Gordon Gekko in Wall Street is one of the all-time great cinema villains and Michael Douglas richly deserved the Academy Award he won for playing the part in 1988. An actor with a slew of amazing performances from Falling Down, to Traffic, to Fatal Attraction and more, with only one acting nomination. He was also nominated/won for Best Picture in 1976 as the producer of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. 

Lauren Bacall - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (The Mirror Has Two Faces)

Lauren Bacall was one of the true icons of the Golden Age of Hollywood, starring in such films as The Big Sleep, Key Largo, and many, many more over her career. Shockingly, it took until 1997 for the Academy to recognize her work when she was finally nominated for a Best Supporting Actress role for The Mirror Has Two Faces. She did finally receive a well-deserved honorary Oscar in 2000. 

Kevin Costner - Nominated For Best Actor (Dances With Wolves)

Dances With Wolves was the darling of the Oscars in 1991. It was nominated for 12 awards, winning seven, including Best Director for Kevin Costner and Best Picture, which Costner won as a producer. It was also the one and only time Costner has been nominated for an acting Academy Award. There are so many other iconic parts he should’ve gotten more credit for, like JFK, Bull Durham, The Untouchables, and Hidden Figures, just to name a few. 

It just goes to show that even being a huge box office draw, and a megastar doesn't mean you'll get recognition from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Oscars are incredibly hard to win and even being nominated is an honor, they say. Still, for everyone on the list, you'd think they'd have more than one.  

Salma Hayek just turned 57 earlier this month, but you would never guess it. The actress is redefining what one’s mid-50s can look like, between Hayek rocking bikinis on the regular and her career absolutely thriving more than ever. But when the Hollywood star was recently asked about the source of her fountain of youth, her answer was unexpected. 

Hayek undoubtedly takes care of her health, but her secret to seemingly never aging is not necessarily a workout routine. While speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the actress shared how she believes her meditation ritual is the real key in her everyday routine that makes all the difference for her. In her words: 

Meditation is a practice that has been implemented by people from far and wide for ages as a means to find mental and emotional clarity for oneself. There are all types of ways people meditate, but the most common definition would be taking a few minutes to sit still and focus on one’s breathing as a way to ground oneself in their surroundings and within one’s body. As Hayek continued: 

Practicing meditation on a regular basis has been proven to assist people dealing with stress, anxiety, depression or pain, along with enhancing one’s overall well-being and peace within themselves. While Salma Hayek shared that the answer to the anti-aging question is often exercising, she believes that meditation is the real secret because it allows her to take time to regularly sit with herself and to quiet her mind. 

The actress spoke about meditation while she was attending the Toronto International Film Festival to promote her producing project, El Sabor de la Navidad, which translates to The Flavor of Christmas in English. While writers and actors are currently striking Hollywood, Hayek got permission to attend the festival, especially since she does not star in the movie. 

Hayek turned 57 on September 2, and she celebrated with a gorgeous round of bikini pictures, which had celebrities like Anthony Hopkins and Bella Thorne commenting (the latter of which she recently twinned with when it came to their fashion choices). Check out the post:

If there’s one thing that celeb watchers love, it’s when our favorite famous folk just so happen to become friends. A relatively new duo apparently sprang up only a few years ago, with Eternals cast members Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie seemingly bonding as they portrayed Ajak and Thena, respectively, in the MCU outing. While it does seem like we can thank Marvel for bringing these two together, they just grabbed dinner on a night out, and I really wish I could’ve been a fly on the wall.

Everyone knows that, if anyone, moms need a night out sometimes so they can at least talk to someone other than their kids or whatever romantic partner they might have, and famous mothers are no different. According to TMZ, Hayek and Jolie took some time away from their various creative efforts and personal challenges to share dinner in Los Angeles over the weekend. However, instead of a true ladies’ night, the two each brought along their progeny.

The meal, which was held at The Nice Guy on Saturday night, saw Black Mirror’s “Joan is Awful” star bring along her 16-year-old daughter, Valentina, while Jolie was joined by her 19-year-old son, Pax. And, by the look of some of the photos that captured the two parties entering and leaving the elegant eatery, the talented twosome may have been hanging out for some time now, as Pax was comfortable when Hayek pulled him in for a friendly kiss on the cheek when they all arrived.

Now, this group could have talked about any and everything as they dined. For all we know, Pax talked to Valentina about living the high school-free life. Maybe Hayek opined about surpassing 25 million Instagram followers after rocking a bikini for National Bikini Day, or shared tips on how to go full plunge on the red carpet twice in two days. It’s also possible, however, that the Magic Mike’s Last Dance talent shared some deeper conversations with her co-star, much like their Eternals characters spent thousands of years doing.

For one thing, while Hayek had to be “dragged” to the courthouse by her family for the ceremony, she has been married for 14 years to François-Henri Pinault, and if the two ladies really have been buddies for a few years now, I cannot imagine them not talking about marriage/love/family/relationships and the like, so maybe they discussed such topics at their recent dinner. They’d certainly have a lot to talk about.

Though the Those Who Wish Me Dead actress has been officially divorced since 2019, but she and ex Brad Pitt are still fighting pretty hard in court over a number of things. Custody of their minor children is one, but something that’s really gotten both of them up in arms over the past year or so is the winery/home they used to share in France, Château Miraval. 

There have been lawsuits going back and forth over it since Jolie sold her share to a Russian billionaire, with an emotional email she sent to Pitt about it being recently submitted into evidence to support her position in selling. 

All in all, it adds up to a situation that might be taking up a lot of mental real estate for the actor/director (who helmed a movie starring her new buddy called Without Blood), and lead to her possibly needing a receptive ear over dinner, which is, hopefully, exactly what they both got.

Salma Hayek just continues to dazzle the public with her latest fashion fits. We already know she’s not one to shy away from the sheer look as evidenced by the see-through ensemble she sported on the red carpet of Magic Mike’s Last Dance. It seems like Hayek’s got more sheer fashion to show off with her bikini coverup, and Bella Thorne rocked the same one in a similar photoshoot. 

Sheer fashion seems to be a particularly popular trend for celebrities these days. Alexandra Daddario went sheer on a black carpet event and Megan Fox had a fashion moment herself with the same look. Salma Hayek most recently showed the world that she could still rock the sheer look by way of an Instagram post of her bikini coverup. Take a look at this “living mermaid” before us down below:

The Frida star looks absolutely flawless in this photo. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as she rocked a bikini for the 77th Annual National Bikini Day. Not to mention, she even demonstrated to us how to work out while wearing a bikini in the pool. With summer almost over, the Mexican-American star clearly has one swimwear photo to reveal. As you can see, she’s standing by the side of the pool with the beach and clear-blue sky right behind her. 

There’s no ignoring her sexy two-piece with her sheer purple and light-green coverup to compliment it. With her hand lifted to the sky, she’s soaking up the sun and drinking what appears to be a coconut. This photo could be enough to inspire anyone to go to the beach and flaunt their stuff like a goddess.  

One actress who commented on Salma Hayek’s post was fellow actress Bella Thorne who said, “Matching !!!!” And she wasn’t kidding, as she was totally twinning with the Oscar nominee by wearing a similar-looking sheer cover for her own bikini picture. The Babysitter star is wearing a purple and light-green coverup similar to Salma Hayek's. With the camera pointed up, she’s swaying by a blue sky background holding a red solo cup. She really knows how to make a statement. The former Disney Channel star proved she's summer goals when she wore her itty-bitty bikini last month. Seeing these two beautiful actresses wearing similar coverups and holding drinks makes me wonder if they share a photographer with a specific aesthetic. With summer winding down, I can't help but wonder if other stars might follow this trend as well. At present though, I'll settle for the sight of these two starlets' impeccable twinning.

Arguably one of the best shows on Netflix's digital library, creator Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror seems to have once again struck a relevant nerve in the consciousness of an ever watchful world. Thanks to claims of studios trying to get actors to sign away their likenesses for “eternity,” it appears that fans of the dystopian satire anthology have a lot of thoughts on the matter once again. 

It seems pretty reasonable, as this very subject was at the center of Season 6’s episode “Joan is Awful.” As that particular installment was already popular with viewers before its real-world counterpart started to rear its ughly head, the Annie Murphy/Salma Hayek starring tale has only grown more and more relevant as a result of reports stemming from negotiations and conversations between SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild) and the AMPTP (producers alliance).

The AI Proposal That Inspired “Joan Is Awful” Comparisons

The more specific scenario that’s been raised by the specific AMPTP stipulations (via Deadline) isn’t a total apples-to-apples translation of what Salma Hayek had to go through in Black Mirror, to be sure. If anything, the situation that’s been highlighted by SAG chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland is the usage of AI to replicate background extras, as opposed to featured speaking performers. 

Recalling the situation in his own words, Ireland laid out the proposal at hand, and why SAG-AFTRA is outraged by its implications: 

It’s clear why an actor would be outraged by being asked to consider what is supposedly a “groundbreaking proposal,” though this isn’t a totally new concern. Most notably martial artist/actor Jet Li had similar worries, which led to Li turning down a role in The Matrix sequels, as he was afraid that his fighting style could be copied digitally if he had signed on to star in the films. 

Then of course, there was the Robin Wright starring 2013 film The Congress, which absolutely played into the notion that a headlining actor could see their likeness used for “eternity” throughout the entertainment landscape. So the moment A.I. proposals like this entered the conversation, it was bound to be a hot topic. 

Responding to Duncan Crabtree-Ireland's claims, Scott Rowe, spokesperson for the AMPTP, attempted to debunk those concerns. Rowe's statement read as follows: 

Ongoing negotiations for both the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes are, of course, more complicated than a pair of prepped statements could ever fully cover. Viewers were almost instantly obsessed with this nightmarish story, as “Joan is Awful” reactions flooded Twitter not too long after Black Mirror Season 6 debuted. The fires surrounding Annie Murphy and Salma Hayek’s battle against the “quam-puta” that ruined their lives certainly haven’t died down, thanks to real life situations reflecting the show's bleak situation. 

Kicking off the recent round of discussion is screenwriter Seth M. Sherwood, who actually paid out some praise to a very specific party: 

Further feeding the discourse in our next example is, coincidentally enough, Luke Cage creator Cheo Hodari Coker. Coker’s response is even more interesting in that it also ropes in a recent box office release into the AI likeness debate, as follows: 

Considering how Indiana Jones 5’s de-aging process used countless hours of Harrison Ford footage, already licensed and owned by studio entities, this concern isn’t a bridge too far to cross for the estates of such big ticket talent to consider. In light of that thought, the comments made by Robert Balkovich below further refocus the concerns at hand:

While it doesn't seem that studios will be jumping into remakes of your favorite movies or shows with Meryl Streep now starring in the lead, the concern is for working actors blow the line. Just as it has been since day one of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the focus is mainly on those union members who don't have voices as powerful as their more instantly recognized peers.

Seeing as this AI driven quandary has been highly cited in two different union strikes and a subsection of social media, this topic definitely isn't going away anytime soon. So we can only hope that “Joan is Awful’s” twisty ending, which got pretty destructive, is the cautionary tale that everyone makes sure to avoid, so that life doesn't imitate art in such a way. 

While those repercussions are a more exaggerated reaction to this subject, it's a discussion that still needs severely serious rationalization. That fact is only further highlighted by public reaction to the events that played out on our screens. As the technology to more convincingly replicate actors and their likenesses continues to develop, this potential slippery slope will undoubtedly remain in view for all who are concerned.

The world will continue to monitor how negotiations between the WGA, SAG-AFTRA, and the AMPTP develop, over whatever span of time is required to bring an agreeable resolution for all. Not only is Salma Hayek killing the summer social media game with her gorgeous bikini posts, she’s also got a great sense of humor about it. While some people take their summer photos very seriously, the Black Mirror star had a cheeky sense of humor about her latest post, which included a "workout" video and a light-hearted caption, as she thanked her fans for 25 million followers. 

A few days before this video in question, Hayek rocked a bikini to celebrate the 77th National Bikini Day, and she was glowing. She looked amazing in the swimsuit with a quilted pattern and the post accumulated over 2.6 million likes. Following that image, she surpassed 25 million followers on Instagram. Hayek’s lil water aerobics workout was complimented by her cheeky caption that called out how her bikini posts get the most likes, and she noted that she hates exercising. I must admit, the video rocks, and Hayek looks gorgeous, meanwhile, this caption made me chuckle, as you can see here:

While it’s the summer of the black bikini, and many celebs like Kourtney Kardashian have been seen rocking their best Barbiecore swimwear on Instagram, Hayek has truly been killing it in her own way with these posts. Her confidence is infectious, and her posts make me want to go sit by a pool. 

Along with her fun summer-y posts, Salma Hayek has also been working a lot this year, with a film among 2023’s new movie releases and an entry on the 2023 TV schedule. Earlier this year she appeared in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, and more recently, she starred in the viral Black Mirror episode “Joan is Awful.” While the Oscar-nominated actress has been a beloved artist for decades, there’s no doubt that this year even more people learned who she was because of these great projects. 

Overall, Salma Hayek has a lot to celebrate. Her 25 million followers, spending the summer soaking up the sun, and her two successful projects are all individually wonderful things. However, having them all happen around the same time is extra sweet. 

Here’s a fun fact as summer goes into full swing: the bikini was born this week 77 years ago – on July 5, 1946 to be specific. The popular bathing suit style first became popular in Paris because of French automotive engineer Louis Réard. So, to celebrate, Salma Hayek dressed up for the occasion by rocking a bikini and well, we can all go home now, she has won Instagram.

The actress, who looks in her absolute prime at the age of 56, brought attention to the anniversary while assuring her followers that this photo is not a throwback. Hayek has been absolutely embracing the present in her life, and honestly, I think we should all take notes. Earlier this year, she spoke about how getting older has been better than she expected. The Oscar nominee is getting work left and right, and she told Glamour she’s “in love” with French billionaire François-Henri Pinault, who she had a surprise wedding with back in 2009. She also said this about her thriving career in the February 2023 interview: 

Fresh roles from Hayek as of late have been nonstop and super impressive, so obviously she deserves some poolside time. Black Mirror is back with new episodes and a loaded cast for Season 6, and if you expected them to be a positive representation of how the future will improve our lives for the better, well, you probably need to review what this show is about. Those with a Netflix subscription have already delved into the first episode, and they have plenty of reactions to the first twisted tale of the season, "Joan Is Awful." 

The story puts Schitt's Creek alum Annie Murphy in the role of Joan, whose life is turned upside down when she sees that Streamberry, a streaming service, made a show starring Salma Hayek that re-enacts and dramatizes real events from her day-to-day life. When Joan attempts to take legal action, she's informed that she already signed over her rights in the terms and conditions of the service, and that Streamberry can use her life story to make episodes instantaneously by utilizing her phone. Ultimately, it's revealed the plan is to roll this program out worldwide and make custom shows for every individual subscriber. 

It's a frightening premise, and one that some on Twitter think could actually happen one day. As such, those who were pumped for the new Black Mirror season and saw this episode are making all sorts of jokes online and maybe checking the fine print on all of their apps a little more closely: 

This episode had me shook, and I'm glad to see that many others are realizing how real the threat introduced in "Joan Is Awful" could be. It's really not that hard to believe companies could develop AI to instantly create shows based on our own lives, and furthermore, convince people to willingly make it legal for them to do so by not reading the fine print in services for which they're signed up. It's a good reminder to keep an eye on those types of things, and it made for a great episode:

Of course, there's also just plenty of funny memes about the Black Mirror episode itself. One user managed to tie it into one of the most iconic episodes of Euphoria Season 2, and I love the attention to detail with the painted in hair stripe:

Perhaps the most hilarious thing about Black Mirror's "Joan Is Awful," is that a lot of the episode paints a streamer that is very similar to Netflix as heartless and evil. In the episode, it's even said that the show is called Joan Is Awful because they learned through research that subjects engaged more with the show if it reflected the worst qualities they believed about themselves. That's pretty messed up, and the subscribers are absolutely loving it:

The Cannes Film Festival may be a great time for audiences to watch a collection of this year’s most artistic films, but there’s plenty of artistry in the dazzling fashions that took place on the red carpet. We already saw Brie Larson’s timeless look in her gorgeous Chanel gown as well as Elle Fanning wearing an impressive metallic party dress at the festival. Salma Hayek made quite the impression herself always knowing how to bring it with her Cannes dress revealed on Instagram that features an incredible plunging neckline. Through a series of photos, we see Salma Hayek on the prowl for the Kering Women in Motion Dinner at the 76th Cannes Film Festival wearing a black-sequined Balenciaga gown with a very low neckline. We also can’t keep our eyes away from her Gucci diamond chain necklace assembled with a blue gemstone. Even her makeup is fully on-point with smoky eyeshadow and cat-winged eyeliner. Instagram users like Vanessa Hudgens made sure to point out Hayek looked “so so so stunning” with other users commenting how ageless and beautiful she looked.

In her caption, Salma Hayek made sure to thank Greg Williams for his photography whose been there for her since her first Cannes red carpet as well as Jennifer Yepez, Sofia Schwarzkopf-Tilbury, and Kate Williamson for being her hair, make-up, and nails team. The Desperado actress also made sure to disclose all of the efforts that went into the stunning dress which included 270 hours of hand sewing, 1,976,000 black sequins, and 2,769 hours of hand embroidery. Do those numbers leave you just as shaken as me? All of the efforts made into this beautiful dress certainly paid off as this classy fashion choice says to me that not only is she fabulous, but she means business.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Salma Hayek has blown us away with her irresistible fashion choices. One day before her Cannes Film Festival event, she went full plunge on the red carpet for the premiere of Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon. Class and sex appeal were there in Hayek's appearance as she donned a fitted purple gown with a similarly-low neckline with giant ruffle sleeves and tapered down to a mermaid bottom. Also at the beginning of the year, she rocked a see-through look on the red carpet of Magic Mike 3 wearing a netted black gown embroidered with colorful flowers, leaves, and fruits all around it. Leave it to the Frida actress to embrace red-carpet onlookers and fans with her artistic fashion ensembles that we can’t take our eyes off of.

Cannes sported a lot of big moments this year. There was Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst walking the red carpet together, Johnny Depp’s return to the big screen with Jeanne du Barry’s premiere, and Harrison Ford getting emotional after the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. All were memorable moments, and now we can add Salma Hayek sporting not one but two completely gorgeous dresses with plunging necklines to the list. 

Salma Hayek was on the red carpet not one but two days in a row, first for the premiere of Killers of the Flower Moon at Cannes and secondly for the Kering Women in Motion Dinner at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. The first night, on May 20th, the actress wore a purple number with  architectural sleeves and a seriously plunging front. 

The fitted gown from Alexander McQueen sported a bit of an illusion panel near her belly presumably to help keep it in place. It also tapered down into a mermaid bottom (fitting with The Little Mermaid hitting the 2023 movie release schedule soon), which probably wasn’t the easiest dress to walk in, but certainly made for a striking red carpet photo. 

A day later, the actress was back in business, appearing in a slinky, black, long-sleeved number with an intriguing neckline. That dress had a plunging neckline, as well. I’m also obsessed with all the sequins that made the look stand out from most other black dresses meant for red carpets -- or in this case, black carpets. 

Cannes is known for its standing ovations and its myriad celebrity sightings. Amidst the glitz and glamor of the overall event, the fashion is also notable. Elle Fanning stunned in a metallic  dress that scrolled from her neck to cover her cleavage. Feather-like materials completed the skirt portion of the ensemble and certainly made for a head-turning look, but she wasn't the only woman making headlines for gorgeous looks. 

Other notable fashion moments came from Natalie Portman in vintage Dior and Brie Larson in a cat dress. But in particular I love that Salma Hayek made plunging a signature and repeatable look at the 76th film festival. 

Honestly, I was starting to think that it’s the year of the black bikini as Halle Berry and more have rocked that look, but with limited pool time in my future, I’d be totally OK if it became the summer of the plunging neckline, as well. Hayek has certainly been at the cutting edge of fashion trends in the past (she even beat Kim Kardashian to the pantashoes look), and she's certainly given me some outfit goals for the near future. 

If I could pick out two consistently killer fashion trends from the last year it’s see-through gowns and hooded dresses. Some of Hollywood’s finest actresses have rocked these looks over the past year, and now Anne Hathaway is hoping on not one, but two of these trends. 

While attending the Berlin Film Festival the Academy Award-winning actress showed up on the red carpet in two stunning gowns. The sheer dress complimented her film’s premiere and the hooded gown was donned while arriving at the festival. 

Anne Hathaway Rocks A Sheer Valentino Gown To The Premiere

Hathaway wore a gorgeous see-through gown on the red carpet for her movie on the 2023 film schedule She Came to Me. The dress is a Valentino column gown, according to InStyle, and the Princess Diaries star complimented her gorgeously edgy sheer bow dress with dramatic leather opera gloves, back stilettos and simple jewelry. The look is truly stunning, and you can see it for yourself here:

This gown marks another celebrity to rock a sheer dress on the red carpet. Considering the dress is Valentino, Hathaway’s look reminds me a lot of Florence Pugh’s viral bright pink Valentino sheer gown. This bow-centric number also has the classy yet edgy vibe of Kathryn Newton’s see-through gown from the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania premiere. 

Hathaway’s gown also features a fishnet pattern connected by leather bows. She’s wearing her hair in a high bun, to really let the high necklined gown shine. Salma Hayek had a similar look for the Magic Mike’s Last Dance premiere. She donned a see-through fishnet dress as she posed with Channing Tatum, and complemented the look with silver and emerald jewels. While the vibes are a bit different – Hayek’s dress feels very Miami and beachy, while Hathaway’s gown feels like edgy Old Hollywood – they are similar to an extent, and it’s a trend that I’ve fallen head over heels for. 

Hoods Are Having A Moment As Anne Hathaway Rocked A Hooded Black Set 

I told you Hathaway rocked two trends that are having a moment, and the second comes in the form of a hooded ensemble. The look, which is an Alaïa design, per Who What Wear, is actually two pieces (a bodysuit and a skit), and it looks both comfy and fabulous. 

Hathaway is another A-lister to hop on the hood trend, and much like her predecessors, it’s not only a gorgeous look, but an unconventional one. Margot Robbie rocked an ab-bearing hooded gown to the Babylon premiere, and she stunned in the unique black ensemble. Jenna Ortega also hopped on the hood trend, wearing a YSL gown that also featured a plunging back. 

One notable difference between these two ladies' looks and Hathaway’s is the cut. Both Robbie and Ortega wore dresses that had open backs and fun cutouts, while The Devil Wears Prada star’s fit covered a lot more, but was still just as form-fitting and flattering. 

Overall, Anne Hathaway is absolutely killing the game with her red-carpet looks, and as we get closer to the premiere of her movie She Came to Me hopefully we’ll get even more stunning moments from this fabulous actress. 

Salma Hayek might be confidently dancing in the steamy and sexy stripper threequel Magic Mike’s Last Dance and rocking see-through looks on red carpets, but it turns out she needed a little more than confidence and a big nudge from her family to get married. The reason I say this is, as the actress reflected on her 2009 marriage to François-Henri Pinault she revealed the wedding wasn’t the glamorous event you’d likely expect from the actress, but rather an impromptu ceremony that her family drug her to. 

The actress revealed that her family put on a sort of “intervention” for her because she had been so averse to getting married. Hayek explained she thinks she had a phobia of saying "I do," despite wanting to spend the rest of her life with her then-fiancé. She told Glamour: 

Hayek then explained the reason they did a courthouse wedding is that her family “dragged” her there. She continued the story of how they surprised her, saying: 

The actress had her courthouse wedding on Valentine’s Day back in 2009. So considering her 14-year anniversary with French fashion mogul François-Henri Pinault is on the horizon, and she’s out promoting her movie on the 2023 movie schedule (which comes out February 10), it’s fitting that she dished about her shocking wedding day.

When asked why she didn’t say no to the surprise nuptials, she said she wasn’t going to opt out of the ceremony, even if it scared her. The Magic Mike’s Last Dance star said: 

A few months later the happy couple had a bigger ceremony, which was, I’m assuming, not a surprise to Hayek. Now, the Oscar-winner and Pinault have been married for a long time, and the actress noted they are extremely happy together. 

In the years since Hayek’s surprise wedding, she’s also faced her fears and taken on challenges professionally. While shooting Eternals, the actress revealed she was ‘terrified’ of her costume, saying another phobia of hers is small spaces. However, once she put it on she was “profoundly moved.” And like the time she got married, she soon realized she could conquer her fear. 

On a similar note, the actress explained that filming the lap dance in Last Dance with Channing Tatum was physically challenging. However, she worked through it, and if you’ve seen the trailer, you know the end product came out well. 

If I’ve learned anything from this story about Hayek’s surprise wedding, it’s that even when she’s scared, she’ll follow through. She also seems to end up loving whatever it was she was challenged by.

As Magic Mike’s Last Dance becomes the hottest new 2023 movie release to hit theaters this weekend, Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek bring all the spice this time around to the stripper franchise. However, back when the production was initially announced, Westworld’s Thandiwe Newton was initially set to star alongside Tatum rather than Hayek. When the actress exited the movie, all kinds of rumors surfaced as to why. Now Magic Mike director Steven Soderbergh has responded to these claims. 

When Newton exited Magic Mike’s Last Dance, Warner Bros. reported she made the “difficult decision” to step down to deal with “family matters,” but other rumors suggested there was more to it. Among the rumors, sources claimed that Newton was “acting strange” on the movie’s set and had to leave the project to go to rehab, while another claimed she clashed with Tatum on set over Will Smith infamous Oscars slap. Here’s how Steven Soderbergh responded to the rumors:  

In other words, Steven Soderbergh has chosen not to entertain the rumors about Thandiwe Newton and keep the whole thing private. Though, in his words to Rolling Stone, he did hint at these stories perhaps all being inaccurate. Plus, as he points out, at the end of the day, what was going on with Newton was a personal matter that should remain private.

There’s certainly no bad blood between Newton and her replacement. Following the actress’ April 2022 exit, Thandiwe Newton took to Instagram to clear that up by raving about Salma Hayek’s performance in Beatriz at Dinner, which came out back in 2017. Newton shared to her story (via People) that there was “no finer performance, no finer film.” 

Salma Hayek stars in Magic Mike’s Last Dance as Maxandra Mendoza, a wealthy socialite, who meets Channing Tatum’s Mike after learning her husband is cheating on her. Maxandra commissions him for a private dance and their relationship gains steam there before she asks Mike to direct a show she can invest in. 

Magic Mike’s Last Dance follows Steven Soderbergh directing the 2012 original Magic Mike, along with classic films like Ocean’s Eleven, Out Of Sight and Erin Brockovich. Like the previous Magic Mike films, this one is spicy enough to be rated-R, but Soderbergh recently shared that he cares more about what’s “sexy” than sex itself in the movie. You can check out Tatum and Hayek in Magic Mike in theaters starting this Friday. 

For many people Super Bowl LVII will be the biggest event to take place this weekend, but for others the big game will be easily overshadowed by Channing Tatum’s "Super Bowl of stripper movies," aka Magic Mike’s Last Dance. The third and (supposedly) final movie in the franchise comes more than 10 years since Magic Mike’s premiere, and the actor has promised lap dances, a crazy opening and “less character, more dancing.” Reviews are in for the threequel that many thought would never happen, so let’s see what the critics are saying.

This time around Channing Tatum’s Magic Mike will not be joined by his motley crew of dancer buddies from the first two installments. Instead, Salma Hayek’s Maxandra Mendoza whisks the enthusiastic dancer-turned-carpenter-turned-bartender away to London to breathe life into a production she’s been running at a theater on the West End. So where will this film fall in the discourse of best dance movies? I’ll let the critics answer that. 

Leah Greenblatt of EW grades the movie a B-, saying that while the characters are underdeveloped, there are flashes of the original, and the pelvic thrusting that most of the audience is going for is still there. The critic continues: 

Jude Dry of IndieWire gives Magic Mike’s Last Dance a B, saying that while the “playground lesson in consent” sometimes feels patronizing to everyone in the audience, Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek’s chemistry gives the trilogy a satisfying sendoff: 

Katie Rife of Polygon says Magic Mike’s Last Dance often feels like an advertisement for the Magic Mike Live! shows that take place in Las Vegas, Miami and London, with the plot of the movie setting up an origin story. The review continues:  

Like other critics, K. Austin Collins of Rolling Stone also speaks to how important consent is in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, and points out that this movie isn’t actually about Mike, but rather Salma Hayek’s Maxandra Mendoza. He argues that the movie’s good intentions mute the pleasures audiences got in the first films, saying: 

Peter Debruge of Variety agrees that Last Dance — a sequel “in name only,” the critic says — has dulled its bite over the last decade. He calls the script lazy, as the film “plays more like a made-for-cable backstage musical than a gender-swapped Pretty Woman fantasy.” Debruge continues: 

The Magic Mike movies are considered some of Channing Tatum’s best work, with the original also counted as one of Steven Soderbergh’s best movies. Mixed reviews are unlikely to deter fans of the first two offerings, so for those of you who want to check out Magic Mike’s Last Dance, you’ll be able to do so in theaters starting Friday, February 10. While Barbiecore has been all the rage no matter what price point you are shopping in, there’s been one other fashion trend over the past year that’s been, perplexing, to say the least. Kim Kardashian’s rocked it. Her ex Kanye West’s other girlfriend Julia Fox rocked it. Salma Hayek’s even worn it. The trend is a popular one called pantashoes. But what the heck are pantashoes? 

Really the term pantashoes is vaguely self explanatory. You see a fashionista out in the wild and they seem to be wearing pants that bleed directly into their shoes. The look is Balenciaga’s creation and they go for a pretty penny, retailing for thousands of dollars, in fact. And they range from leggings with shoes ("pantaleggins) to waders + shoes and even athletic pants with shoes attached.

A History Of Kim Kardashian Sporting Pantashoes

Kim Kardashian’s relationship with Balenciago goes back a long time, to her early days of dating Kanye West, in fact. The mom of four went on a shopping spree with West early on in their dating timeline back in 2013. Years later, she was still supporting the brand as it entered its pantashoes phase. More recently, a controversy with a Balenciago ad campaign has caused her to reevalute her relationship with the fashion house, but she’s been seen many times in recent years in the iconic style. 

If you haven’t seen what the pantashoes look like out in a wild he’s a side look at The Kardashians star in the duds. 

During the pandemic, Kim also managed to rock out in two fashion trends at once. Her hot pink SNL outfit in 2021 both managed to encompass the Barbiecore trend and the pants-with-footwear trend in the same breath. 

In fact, Kim wore a lot of Balenciaga that year. She wore it as part as her famously covered Met Gala look. She wore it to her ex's show after her split with Kanye West. That’s changed more recently but its easy to see why pantashoes are a bit synonymous with Kim. She’s not the only big name to sport them though.

Kim may have had a previous relationship with Balenciaga, but just because she broke up with Kanye West doesn’t mean he’s on the outs with the brand. In fact, during his short-lived time with Julia Fox, she managed to rock out the Balenciaga look. (Likely sometime after Ye had her "packing up " her old life.)  She, however, did it with denim.

Salma Hayek Wore The Trend Even Earlier

But it turns out the trend of the pantashoes has been around much longer. In fact, Salma Hayek actually wore the look way back in 2017 when she wore a dress with pantashoes to an art event at the MET. That event, the “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons:Art of the In-Between' Costume Institute Gala featured the actress in a black dress and bright purple pantashoes. It was a very new and notable look at the time and while it didn’t necessarily catch fire right away, it’s worth noting the Magic Mike: The Last Dance star brought the trend to life even earlier. 

As noted prior, Kim Kardashian had maybe been the biggest advocate of the pants, but she actually re-evaluated her relationship with Balenciaga recently after an ad-campaign went awry. In it, kids were asked to hold BDSM teddy bears while photographs were taken of them, and the backlash against the photoshoot was loud enough the reality star even commented on it.

She eventually said she would reevaluate her relationship Balenciaga. Given some other celebrities have also dropped off, it's unclear if the pantashoes trend will continue into 2023 on celebrity red carpets, but there are some knockoff versions available for the non-rich and famous these days.

And those don't have a BDSM controversy attached to them. 

As if the heat emitted from the Magic Mike 3 trailer wasn’t enough, the film’s leading lady Salma Hayek increased the anticipation by wearing a fishnet dress to the premiere. The Oscar winner had the internet talking while posing with (and without) franchise star Channing Tatum. After the viral red-carpet moment, Hayek has remained silent on the matter. However, Tatum was asked about her see-through dress, and he had an interesting answer.

The Magic Mike’s Last Dance star gave his take on Hayek's see-through fashion statement while at the threequel’s South Beach premiere. Even though he posed for several photos with Hayek, Tatum was a bit shy about commenting on her floral fishnet dress to ET. So, the Hollywood A-lister chose to let the dress speak for itself.

As Salma Hayek’s fashion moment spoke for itself, Channing Tatum was right to say nothing, in my opinion. Being a southern gentleman, Tatum probably didn’t feel like it was his place to say anything. He chose to be respectful as both he and Hayek are currently in relationships.

The Eternals star’s highly talked about moment turned into good publicity for the Magic Mike XXL sequel as viewers can’t stop talking about her and the dress. The fashion translated the steamy sexiness seen in the threequel’s red-hot trailer, which Hayek called physically demanding, to real life.

Salma Hayek’s fishnet dress was on trend as sheer and see-through dresses have become the latest obsession in Hollywood. Don’t Worry Darling’s Florence Pugh channeled the free-the-nipple movement several times throughout 2022, including her internet-breaking pink Valentino dress. Her co-star Olivia Wilde also rocked a sheer dress, which some have dubbed her revenge dress following her split from Harry Styles. Even fellow Latina Jennifer Lopez hopped on the see-through dress trend at the Shotgun Wedding premiere with a nude number complete with a neon yellow bow.

The sexy and steamy Magic Mike’s Last Dance, which has led to Hayek hopping on the see-through trend, will see Tatum return to the stripping world as Mike Lane is lured to London by the Oscar-nominated actress’ socialite character as she builds up a roster of young dancers. The threequel will serve as Tatum’s final installment for the exotic dance-themed franchise. However, closing the chapter on Magic Mike doesn’t mean the 21 Jump Street star isn’t busy with multiple projects lined up to arrive over the next few years.

It’s been clear for a while but it’s been proven yet again: see-through looks are having a moment in the world of celebrity fashion right now. From Megan Fox to Florence Pugh, sheer and see-through dresses have been staples on red carpets for the last year or so, and now Salma Hayek is jumping on the trend by rocking a beautiful see-through dress at the Miami premiere of Magic Mike’s Last Dance. 

The actress walked the carpet with her co-star Channing Tatum as they premiered their steamier and sexier Magic Mike movie. Hayek rocked a see-through, netted black gown, with embroidered with colorful flowers, leaves and fruits, perfect for a South Beach premiere.  

The fit was not only on trend, but it’s also the perfect outfit to rock in honor of the third installment in the Magic Mike franchise. From the trailer alone we’ve learned this Magic Mike movie will be as sexy as ever as Hayek and Tatums’ characters work together to start the Magic Mike live show, and the actress's outfit fits the vibe and energy of these movies perfectly.  

Hayek is following in the footsteps of many celebrities to rock see-through looks since 2021, specifically Megan Fox. The Transformers actress was way ahead of the curve with this trend, rocking a nude sheer gown to the 2021 VMAs. You can check out Fox’s iconic look here:

Moving into 2022, the sheer look became that look, with many celebrities rocking see-through dresses and outfits to various events. 

Notably, Florence Pugh rocked multiple sheer looks throughout 2022, making waves with her completely sheer pink Valentino Dress. The Little Women star has been a big advocate to free the nipple, and rocked another sheer look at Pris Fashion Week last October, which you can see here:

Following in Fox and Pughs’ footsteps many more celebrities jumped on the sheer dress trend. This includes Olivia Wilde wearing a dress some called her “revenge dress” after her split from Harry Styles. Jennifer Lopez also hopped on the sheer trend for the Shotgun Wedding premiere, rocking a nude, sequined gown with a bright yellow bow beneath the dress. Allison Janney also followed in Pugh and Foxs’ footsteps, wearing a sheer, black, sequined see-through gown, that also showed her support for the free-the-nipple movement. 

Hayek is another gorgeous celebrity to jump on the see-through dress trend, and she looked fabulous at the Magic Mike 3 premiere. Hopefully, as the film continues its press tour we’ll get more iconic looks from the Oscar-winning actress. 

According to the 2023 movie schedule, you’ll be able to see Hayek and Channing Tatum in Magic Mike 3 on February 10, where I’m sure we’ll be seeing these actors in a little less clothing than what we saw in these red carpet photos. 

A long time ago, a new popular animated movie franchise came to life about a far off land, and that franchise started with Shrek. Spanning four movies, it was one of DreamWorks most popular film series and spawned plenty of TV specials, merchandise and so much more. But, in that series came a cat that everyone seemed to fall in love with that was introduced in Shrek 2 – Puss in Boots, voiced by Antonio Banderas. 

The character became so popular with audiences that he got his own, titular spinoff film in 2011, and it even scored an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Film. And now, more than ten years later, the sequel is finally out and fans of the famous cat are hankering to see him again in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

But, where might you have seen or heard the Puss in Boots: The Last Wish cast before? Be prepared, because this list is full of stars.  

Antonio Banderas (Puss In Boots)

First up on the list, we have the main star himself, Antonio Banderas, who voices the lead in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. As someone who has been around for a long time, Banderas has starred in many movies. Most recently in 2022, he was a part of the movie adaptation of Uncharted, based on the very popular game series, but has done so much more. 

Besides that, he obviously voiced Puss in the original Shrek series as well as the spinoff, but his other films include Desperado, The Mask of Zorro, Philadelphia, The Enforcer, Interview With The Vampire, the Spy Kids series, Pain and Glory, and more. He has also been a part of television shows, with a main role in the series, Genius, but movies is where Banderas really shines. 

Banderas is also set to appear in the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, so be sure to keep an eye out for him.

Salma Hayek (Kitty Softpaws)

Moving on, we take a look at a legendary actress, Salma Hayek, who voices Kitty Softpaws in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Reprising her role from the last film, Hayek has done so much in both movies and television. In terms of film, she has appeared in so many amazing ones. 

In 2021, she was a part of the Eternals cast, but has starred in other movies such as Desperado (where she co-starred with Banderas), Frida (which got her an Academy Award nomination), Bandidas, From Dusk ‘Till Dawn, Dogma, Wild Wild West, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, House of Gucci, and more. She also voiced one of the main characters in Sausage Party, an adult animated film. 

In terms of television, Hayek has also appeared in many shows. She started off her career in the telenovela, Teresa, but has since been in shows such as 30 Rock, Ugly Betty, and more.  

Olivia Colman (Mama Bear)

A true queen, Olivia Colman voices Mama Bear in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Colman has done so much in television and movies that it’s almost hard to keep track of what she’s done, but we’ll go over the highlights here. 

In movies, most recently in 2022, she starred with the Empire of Light cast, but she’s also appeared in films such as The Favourite, The Father, The Lost Daughter, The Iron Lady, Murder on the Orient Express, and so many more. She also had a voice role in the popular 2021 film, The Mitchell’s vs. The Machines. 

With television, Colman might be primarily known for her role as Queen Elizabeth in the third and fourth season of The Crown, but has appeared in many other parts in shows like Heartstopper, Peep Show, Flowers, Fleabag, The Night Manager, and Broadchurch, among others. 

Harvey Guillen (Perrito)

Next up is Harvey Guillen, who voices Perrito in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Some movies that you might have seen him in before this one are General Education, the horror film Truth or Dare, Status Update, and The Internship, but Guillen has done so much more in television. 

He’s primarily known for his role on the FX show What We Do In The Shadows, but has appeared in and voiced characters for many other TV series, including The Magicians, the underrated animated show, The Owl House, and The Thundermans, and has a recurring role in Human Resources. 

Samson Kayo (Baby Bear)

Moving on, we take a look at Samson Kayo, who voices Baby Bear in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Kayo has appeared in a few films, including 2022’s The Bubble, as well as Dolittle and Grandpa’s Great Escape, but he’s been in a few more television shows. Most recently in 2022, he appeared in the HBO Max original series, Our Flag Means Death. 

Other than that, he’s appeared in shows such as Murder in Successville, Truth Seekers, Bloods, Famalam, and Timewaster. 

Wagner Moura (Big Bad Wolf)

You remember those pigs in the Shrek series? Well, now it’s time to look out for the Big Bad Wolf, because he’s going to be making an appearance in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Voiced by Wagner Moura, the actor is primarily known for his role as Pablo Escobar in the popular Netflix series, Narcos, but has appeared in several other movies and television shows. 

Some of his biggest films this far have been Behind the Sun, The Man of the Year, The Middle of the World, Wasp Network, Sergio, and 2022’s The Gray Man, among many Spanish-language films. With television, besides Narcos, Moura also has a main role on the TV series, Shining Girls. 

Anthony Mendez (Doctor)

Moving on, we have Anthony Mendez, who plays the Doctor in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Mendez hasn’t done any major movies yet, so his role in here will be his first. However, he’s done plenty on television. 

You might recognize his voice the most, because he was known as the narrator for the popular CW show, Jane the Virgin, but he’s had roles in other TV shows such as Foodtastic, The Unexplained Files and Elena of Avalor. 

John Mulaney (Jack Horner)

You’d have to be living under a rock to not know who John Mulaney is, and now, he’s transferring his voice talents over to Puss in Boots: The Last Wish as Jack Horner. Mulaney is primarily known for his hilarious comedy specials and his time on Saturday Night Live, which he has hosted several times since he left, but he’s done plenty of other television work. 

He’s been in shows such as Documentary Now!, Kroll Show, his own series called The Mulaney Show, and more. Mulaney hasn’t appeared in any live-action films yet, but he’s done voice work for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (one of my personal favorite Spider-Man movies) and was one of the leads of the Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers cast. 

Florence Pugh (Goldi)

Next up on this Puss in Boots: The Last Wish cast list is Florence Pugh, who voices Goldi in the film (a version of Goldilocks). Pugh has been making a name for herself these past several years, appearing in many movies that have taken her to star status. 

Some of her biggest hits have been starring as Yelena Belova Black Widow, the A24 horror film, Midsommar, Little Women, Malevolent, Outlaw King, Fighting With My Family, The Commuter, The Falling, and so many more. She also starred in the 2022 psychological thriller, Don’t Worry Darling, and is set to appear in several new movies, including Dune 2, and the upcoming film, Oppenheimer. 

With television, Pugh reprised her role from Black Widow in the Disney+ original series, Hawkeye, but has also appeared in other shows such as Marvella, The Little Drummer Girl, and more. She is also going to be reprising Yelena Belova again in the Marvel film, Thunderbolts. 

Ray Winstone (Papa Bear)

Next up, we have Ray Winstone, who voices Papa Bear in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The actor has been around for a long time, and has appeared in many, many movies, so we’re just going to go over some of his most known. 

Winstone has had roles in films such as Quadrophenia, Scum, Nil by Mouth, Sexy Beast, The Proposition, The Departed, Beowulf, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Black Widow (alongside Pugh), Snow White and the Huntsman, Point Break, and more. 

With television, he’s had main roles in many TV shows, including Robin of Sherwood, Get Back, Vincent, Of Kings and Prophets, and Ice, among many guest roles, as well. 

Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Mama Luna)

Last but not least, we have Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who voices Mama Luna in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Randolph had been in several movies that you might have heard of, including Dolemite Is My Name, Office Christmas Party, Kajillionaire, The Last Shift, The United States vs. Billie Holiday, and 2022’s The Lost City. 

She’s also appeared in many TV shows in recurring roles, including the Hulu original series, Only Murders in the Building, The Last O.G., This Is Us, Birdgirl, and more. She also had a main role in the show, High Fidelity, as well as a main part in Selfie and People of Earth. 

With such a stellar cast, it’s no wonder that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is shaping up to be an amazing movie. And now, you just might find something new that they’re a part of. Time to re-watch Shrek 2 again.   

It’s been a full 11 years since we last heard Antonio Banderas as the voice of the titular feline in Puss in Boots, and his highly anticipated return in the upcoming sequel proves there’s no bad time for a new adventure in the Shrek universe. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is set to hit theaters on December 21, fresh for those seeking some holiday respite at the theater, and reviews are here to tell us if the new tale of the hilarious, sword-wielding cat was worth the decade-long wait for its arrival.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is the sixth movie in the Shrek franchise and the second in the spinoffs that star Antonio Banderas. Salma Hayek is also back as Kitty Softpaws, and they’re joined by actors including Harvey Guillén, Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, John Mulaney and Wagner Moura, as Puss seeks the Last Wish that will restore the eight lives he has lost. Director Joel Crawford has warned that this sequel will have some darker tones, as the main character struggles with mortality and a fear of death, so let’s take a look at what the critics are saying.

Zaki Hasan of the San Francisco Chronicle says there are enough swerves in the plot to make this an adventure worth going on, and that’s not to mention the dynamic animation. This critic sees more to come for this character after the whimsical, sassy journey, and says hopefully we don’t have have to wait another 11 years: 

Leigh Monson of the AV Club says DreamWorks has delivered the best of the six Shrek films, calling The Last Wish “visually striking and narratively engaging.” This critic and the previous one each compared the animation style to that of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. Monson grades the movie a B+, calling it one of cinema’s biggest surprises of the year: 

Katie Walsh of the Los Angeles Times says Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek’s characters have great chemistry, and the new additions to the voice cast are impressive as well, noting: 

Peter Debruge of Variety posits that similarly to the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, DreamWorks seems to have learned that cartoon characters get a lot more interesting if they’re not immortal. The review reads:

Emma Stefansky of IndieWire also praises the movie for not being afraid to test its young audience members with themes of mortality and appreciating the life you have. The critic grades this movie an A, saying:  

There is some question as to how the family friendly offering will compete against Avatar: The Way of Water at the box office, and based on these positive reviews, it sounds like moviegoers will have a couple of good options. Can you believe it’s been a decade since Magic Mike strip danced its way into theaters? Well, you’ll be seeing Channing Tatum play the iconic role one last time in Magic Mike’s Last Dance where you can expect all of his sexy moves to hit a whole new level. While the 42-year-old’s hyped-up lap dance in the movie has been described as “sexy” and “steamy,” Salma Hayek actually called the intense lap dance scene “very” physically challenging.

The new trailer for Magic Mike’s Last Dance showed "Magic Mike" Lane shirtless, wet, and giving Salma Hayek’s character a lap dance to show her that bartending is clearly not all that he does. Oh, the things she didn’t know. But, here’s something you may not know- Hayek told ET that this arousing scene was not a cakewalk.

Not every actress can say they’ve been privileged enough to check out Channing Tatum’s smooth moves live and in person. This actress almost wasn’t Salma Hayek. The role was originally meant for British actress Thandiwe Newton, who exited the threequel after reportedly heading to a treatment facility due to the stresses of her personal life. Hayek described her role in the movie as “a strong woman” watching and bossing around 12 semi-naked men. Not that she’s complaining or anything. 

Since Magic Mike’s Last Dance will be the final time audiences get to see Channing Tatum flaunt his stuff as an esteemed stripper, that means everything in this movie is expected to be bigger and better than ever in terms of dancing. The Step Up star calls the third Magic Mike movie “the Super Bowl of stripper movies” where the best dancers in the world show off what they’ve got. Director Steven Soderbergh wanted to up the ante of this new movie not only with Tatum and Hayek’s hot lap dance but with a big dance number featured in the film’s conclusion. I’m sure it’ll be a scene that lives on in our memories as we say goodbye to Mike Lane. The Dear John actor also wanted a strong, female central character to do a bit of dancing as well. Based on what we saw in the trailer, Hayek will be joining in on the fun with Tatum. Lucky gal. 

Some other things worth knowing about Magic Mike’s Last Dance is the plot is described as “a variation of All That Jazz.” After a business deal of Mike Lane's went bust, this on-and-off again stripper wants to return to the stage one last time to put on a show with a team of dancers that is sure to make a splash on the stripper scene. Soderbergh originally wasn’t going to make a third movie after retiring from film directing once the first Magic Mike was released. But, seeing Tatum’s live Magic Mike show and what the choreography team accomplished further inspired him to tie up the film series with a conclusion that audiences will remember. 

Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek’s “very challenging” lap dance is sure to be worth the wait. Get ready to see the steamy chemistry between the two as the 2023 movie release of Magic Mike’s Last Dance hits theaters on February 10th.

Outside of a cameo appearance in 2021’s Free Guy, Channing Tatum had been absent from the live-action acting scene since 2017, when he starred in Logan Lucky and Kingsman: The Golden Circle. 2022, however, saw him make his grand return on this front, not only starring in Dog and The Lost City, but also cameoed opposite Brad Pitt in Bullet Train. Looking ahead to 2023, we’ll first see Tatum in the new year reprising “Magic Mike” Lane in Magic Mike 3, a.k.a. Magic Mike’s Last Dance, and the actor has shared a steamy abs starring his abs… plus Salma Hayek.

As anyone who’s seen the first two Magic Mike movies knows, not showing off Channing Tatum’s well-sculpted abs in this latest entry would be downright criminal. After all, this is a film series about the world of male stripping, and while the picture that Tatum posted on Instagram doesn’t show his title character in performance mode, you can tell that Salma Hayek is relishing the experience of feeling the actor’s abs.

With a little under half a year to go until Magic Mike’s Last Dance comes out, plus the Magic Mike Live Tour having kicked off, Channing Tatum decided to share the first official image from the upcoming 2023 movie. While we don’t have any context for why Salma Hayek is touching Tatum’s abs in this scene (beyond the fact that they’re simply glorious), this looks to be a more intimate moment rather than if Hayek’s character was feeling him up at a strip club. So are these two romantically involved, or is Hayek’s character simply touching his abs for a definitely professional reason? Time will tell.

Originally the plan was for Westworld’s Thandiwe Newton to co-star alongside Channing Tatum in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, but she ended up departing the production and reportedly headed to a rehab facility. Soon after news about Newton’s exit came out, it was claimed that she’d been behaving “erratically” on the Magic Mike 3 set. In any case, Salma Hayek, who recently played Ajak in Eternals and Pina Auriemma in House of Gucci, was tapped as Newton’s replacement, though before we see her in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, Hayek will be heard as Kitty Softpaws in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

No plot details for Magic Mike’s Last Dance have been revealed yet, but Channing Tatum has described it as “the Super Bowl of stripper movies” and shared the we’ll see his character give “an intimate, straight-up one-on-one lap dance” for the first time. Steven Soderbergh, who helmed the first Magic Mike, resumed his directorial duties for this latest movie, and Magic Mike XXL director Gregory Jacobs is producing alongside Reid Carolin (who wrote the script), Nick Wechsler and Peter Kiernan.

After first being set up as an exclusive offering for HBO Max subscribers, Magic Mike’s Last Dance will now premiere in theaters on February 10, 2023. It will compete that opening weekend against Screen Gems and Thunder Road Films’ It’s All Coming Back to Me.

It’s been a hectic week or so for Magic Mike’s Last Dance after Thandie Newton allegedly left the film over an on-set disagreement with star and producer Channing Tatum. Things seemed to move in a more positive direction with Newton’s replacement Salma Hayek. While there hasn’t been much talk after Hayek came aboard the threequel, Tatum seemingly pushed the reported drama aside to celebrate his birthday while on set. Things appeared to be going swimmingly as the Magic Mike 3 co-stars shared a special birthday dance, and it’s absolutely adorable.

The Magic Mike 3 actor found time to celebrate his special day while shooting the threequel. Dancing for the film seemed to influence the sweet moment between him and Hayek. But it wasn’t Tatum who chose to share the innocent dance session as the video wound up on the Eternals actress’s Instagram. The actress posted the video to celebrate his birthday with a cute message to cap off the sweet dance. To see the two co-stars show off their best moves, check out her fun Instagram post below.

Dancing in a trailer filled with balloons would be difficult for some to maneuver around, but these Hollywood actors mastered the art of trailer jigs. Having silly balloons and party lights created the best atmosphere for a small birthday celebration. Of course, the silliness went up a notch due to Tatum’s tiny birthday hat. The two Magic Mike co-stars seemed to enjoy the sweet dance.

Dancing to Stevie Wonder’s “Happy Birthday” would make any birthday celebrations not only adorable, but jovial at the same time. Of course, the Lost City actor pulled out his best moves as he and Salma Hayek danced in his trailer. Spinning Hayek and his footwork were impressive given how small the dance floor was. But that’s to be expected from him. This is the same guy who showed off his best moves with the dance classic Step Up. Although who knew he had these specific moves stored in his dance repertoire? Hopefully, viewers will get to see those moves when the sequel drops.

The celebratory dance between Tatum and Salma Hayek marked the first time followers have seen her on the set of the stripper movie after replacing Thandiwe Newton. Hayek replacing the Westworld actress made headlines after she allegedly got into an intense spat with the franchise lead over Will Smith’s Oscar slap. Both Warner Bros. and Newton’s spokesperson called the rumors “false” citing family matters.

Despite refuting the rampant speculation, there were still rumors floating around, including allegations of the actress heading to a rehab facility and her behavior being erratic on set. She appeared to be in a better place after leaving the project despite reports of her and her husband reportedly splitting after 24 years. But things appeared to be better for everyone involved.

When it comes to the '90s, there are so many iconic movies that I’m sure every single one of you has seen reading this article. But with these iconic movies comes iconic film roles, and these actresses were some of the best in the business. Here are several actresses with some truly iconic film roles in '90s movies. 

Kate Winslet (Titanic)

Considering Titanic was once the biggest film in the world, it’s not surprising the first pick here is Kate Winslet, who played Rose DeWitt Bukater. It’s certainly one of Winslet’s best films so far, and put her on the fast track to become the famous actor she is today.  

Gwyneth Paltrow (Se7en)

While Gwyneth Paltrow known amazingly well now from her variety of film performances, her role of Tracy Mills in Se7en is certainly an iconic one, with her character playing an essential role throughout the story. It wasn’t that long after she would star in Shakespeare in Love and win an Academy Award for her acting. 

Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct)

Yes, this is Sharon Stone from that controversial scene in Basic Instinct. But no one can deny that her performance in this film was great, and she acted her butt off in this erotic thriller. Every single scene she was in, she stole the show.

Jodie Foster (The Silence Of The Lambs)

The '90s were filled to the brim with iconic horror films like The Silence of the Lambs, and was only the third film in history to win the Big Five at the Academy Awards - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress and Best Actor. Best Actress went to Jodie Foster for her amazing portrayal of Clarice Starling. 

Sandra Bullock (Speed)

While Sandra Bullock is currently busy in 2022 with her film, The Lost City, one of her first big roles ever was starring alongside Keanu Reeves in the action film, Speed, portraying Annie Porter, the main love interest of the film and a total badass. 

Winona Ryder (Edward Scissorhands)

This is definitely one of Winona Ryder’s best movies. Playing Kim Boggs in Edward Scissorhands, Ryder perfectly captured what true kindness is meant to look like, and her love story with Edward is one for the history books that anyone would adore to witness.  

Rachel Leigh Cook (She’s All That)

While the reboot, He’s All That, made plenty of references to the original film, She’s All That just can’t be beaten, and that includes Rachel Leigh Cook’s iconic performance as Laney Boggs. I mean, who could forget that memorable “Kiss Me” scene? It’s the epitome of teen movie makeovers. You have to love it. 

Meryl Streep (The Bridges Of Madison County)

Meryl Streep has been around for many years in the movie industry and has some amazing films under her belt. And while she did plenty of movies in the '90s, my personal favorite performance of hers was in The Bridges of Madison County, where she played Francesca Johnson, a married mother who has a steamy four-day love affair with a photojournalist. Her chemistry with Clint Eastwood is second to none. 

Meg Ryan (Sleepless In Seattle, You’ve Got Mail)

A legendary queen of romantic comedies, you could not stop Meg Ryan in the '90s. Not only was she in two iconic roles in romantic comedies, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail, both of those films were alongside Tom Hanks and showed just how amazing their chemistry is. 

Demi Moore (Ghost)

That damn pottery scene has been recreated by so many people - I mean, even Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart recreated it! - but no one can quite beat Demi Moore's performance. She shined in her leading role of Molly Jensen alongside Patrick Swayze. I think all of us have wished at least once we were in her shoes. 

Sarah Michelle Gellar (I Know What You Did Last Summer)

While plenty of folks know Sarah Michelle Gellar for her portrayal of Buffy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gellar starred in another horror hit that same year portraying Helen Shivers in I Know What You Did Last Summer, giving a masterclass in chase scenes in horror movies. 

Whoopi Goldberg (Sister Act, Ghost)

Whoopi Goldberg is certainly an iconic name that I am sure you’ve heard of plenty of times before, and she had not one but two iconic roles in the '90s. To me, my favorite is her lead role in Sister Act, starring as Deloris Van Cartier and bringing some soul into religion, but I can’t not mention her Academy Award-nominated performance as Oda Mae Brown in Ghost. 

Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman)

It’s one of Julia Roberts' best movies. Pretty Woman has some pretty iconic scenes, but none of them could have been accomplished if not for the charming performance that Roberts delivered as Vivian. I’m pretty sure every time I’ve watched that movie, all I want is to be in that bathtub. That looks so damn nice.

Drew Barrymore (Scream) 

Drew Barrymore was only in the first twelve minutes of the first Scream movie, and yet her scene has become iconic in every sense of the word. You go up to a horror movie fan and ask “do you like scary movies?” and they’ll know exactly what film its from as well as what scene - and Drew Barrymore is the star of it. 

Neve Campbell (Scream)

Even if Drew Barrymore was the star of the first twelve minutes, it was Neve Campbell that became the star of the Scream franchise, reprising her role in every single new film since, showing just how badass she is as the ultimate final girl. 

Reese Witherspoon (Cruel Intentions)

Witherspoon has been in many movies and some great TV shows, but back in the '90s, she was still just starting out, and Cruel Intentions was a breakthrough role for her. She played Annette Hargrove, a young woman who was the target of the two main characters of the film. In this '90s movie, she showed just how talented she is at acting. 

Alicia Silverstone (Clueless)

Ugh, as if! Alicia Silverstone truly stole the screen when she played Cher in Clueless, a story about a teenage girl who ends up befriending a new student and decides to give her a makeover. I mean, those outfits alone are definitely iconic enough for her to be on this list.  

Laura Dern (Jurassic Park)

Raise your hand if you’re excited to see Laura Dern back in Jurassic World: Dominion. *Raises hand* Regardless, Laura Dern in the original Jurassic Park was freaking amazing, and Dr. Ellie Sattler was a badass that I looked up to, and I can’t wait to see what she’s been up to after all these years. 

Julia Stiles (10 Things I Hate About You)

Ugh, 10 Things I Hate About You is one of my favorites, and it’s legit because of the chemistry that Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger have in this film. They are my all-time favorite romantic couple and Julia Stiles rocks it as Kat. 

Halle Berry (Jungle Fever)

While Halle Berry has been in plenty of badass roles over the last two decades, there was a time where she was just getting started in Hollywood. One of the first films that she had a supporting role in was Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, where she played Vivian. While she's gone on to play more prominent roles since then, it was one of the movies that broke her out onto the scene and paved the way for bigger things down the line, like X-Men and Monster’s Ball. 

Natalie Portman (Star Wars: The Phantom Menace)

Padme Amidala, known as the Queen/Senator of Naboo and Anakin Skywalker's lover (later wife) was a Star Wars character that made her debut in 1999, and was a badass in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Natalie Portman portrayed the legendary Star Wars character for the prequel trilogy, and inspired young girls everywhere - but we don’t need to talk about how her character ends in Revenge of the Sith. 

Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction)

While my personal all-time favorite Uma Thurman performance is her role in Kill Bill, one of her biggest roles prior to this was portraying Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction, earning her a nomination at the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor. I mean, she was the literal character featured on the poster for this film, and honestly, I can see why. She has such star appeal. She has plenty of great performances but this is one of her best. 

Mena Suvari (American Beauty)

This 1999 film, American Beauty, told a captivating story about a man having a midlife crisis, but the main star to me of this was Mena Suvari as Angela Hayes, the object of affection for the main character, Lester Burnham. Even if the film didn’t age too well, I think we call agree Suvari was phenomenal in it. 

Robin Wright (Forrest Gump)

If you’re not saying “Jenny” by the end of Forrest Gump in a Southern drawl, I don’t think we were watching the same film. This Academy Award-winning film starring Tom Hanks told the story of Forrest Gump and his legendary life, often times where he would think of his young love, Jenny, played by Robin Wright. Their love story is a tumultuous one, but a memorable one as well. 

Kirsten Dunst (Interview With The Vampire)

Kirsten Dunst in Interview with the Vampire is iconic for many reasons, showing how amazingly talented she was as an actress at the tender age of eleven. She later went on to star in films like Bring it On and Spider-Man, but no one can quite forget her character, Claudia.

Salma Hayek (Desperado)

Salma Hayek has been in many different kinds of films, such as being a part of the Grown Ups cast or starring in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, but Desperado was one of the early films that made her the star she is today. Starring alongside Antonio Banderas as Carolina, Hayek was badass and her character was just as amazing. It’s definitely one of her best movies, and I would watch another film with both her and Banderas.  

Angela Bassett (What’s Love Got To Do With It, Waiting To Exhale) 

Angela Bassett is a master-class actress, and has shown just how amazingly talented she is in any role. I mean, there are so many movie parts that she should have been nominated for an Oscar, However, one of her most iconic roles from the '90s did indeed earn her nominations - her portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with It. And another great role for Bassett in the '90s was Bernadine Harris in Waiting to Exhale. Both of these movies were great showcases of her acting prowess. 

Whitney Houston (The Bodyguard)

“And I will always love you.” 

You know the song, I know you do. It’s one of the most iconic songs of all time and has been performed by so many people. Even though it was originally written by Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston sang this iconic song for the soundtrack for The Bodyguard, where she played Rachel Marron, a famous singer who falls for the bodyguard tasked with protecting her. 

Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow Never Dies)

Last but not least, we have Michelle Yeoh in Tomorrow Never Dies. While she’s been in plenty of amazing movies such as Crazy Rich Asians and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, one of my personal favorites of hers is her role as Wai Lin, a Chinese spy and an ally to James Bond. 

Yeoh is a bloody badass. This James Bond alum truly defined the term “kick ass and take names” because she was one of the best Bond girls ever, in my opinion. I would gladly see her return to the franchise alongside Pierce Brosnan, but I don’t think that’ll happen anytime soon, so I’ll just re-watch this movie over and over. 

There are truly so many other iconic roles, but these are some of the best that you should check out again next time you want to watch a great movie. Now, if you don’t mind me, I’m going to re-watch Jurassic Park again before the latest sequel.  

When the MCU first got its start, it was high on the brawn and low on the girl power. Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow doing a crotch-throat grab in a tight black leather getup and Natalie Portman, Hayley Atwell and Gwyneth Paltrow as supportive girlfriends on the sidelines to the big-league heroes was all there was amidst Marvel’s boys club. Since then, a ton more female Marvel characters have been introduced into the universe that are just as badass, clever and quick-witted as their male counterparts.

That being said, the walls are still stacked behind the women of Marvel leading their own solo movies. Out of the Marvel movies released so far, only 2019’s Captain Marvel, 2021’s Black Widow n and 2023’s The Marvels is all the leading girl power we’ve seen across 35 films.When taking a look at the upcoming Marvel movies, there isn’t a single female-led or female directed Marvel movie on the way . What’s up with that? And yet, there are so many incredible female Marvel characters who are deserving of their own film. Here are our picks:

Storm

One of the most powerful mutants not only in the X-Men movies so far, but, but in Marvel Comics as well has been Ororo Munroe, aka Storm. While Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp’s version were supporting characters with only a few standout moments in the X-Men franchise, there’s a lot more to her than what’s been explored. She’s actually the daughter of a princess in Kenya and a photojournalist father and was raised between Cairo, Egypt and Harlem, New York. Of course, she has the power to control the weather.

After Ororo was orphaned after her parents were killed in a plane crash, she was taken in by a thief in Egypt and trained by him to become a pickpocket. At some point in her origin story, she becomes worshipped as a goddess for using her powers with the droughts in the African desert. Ultimately she gets approached by Professor X and joins the X-Men, but she also once married Black Panther and became the leader of Wakanda, led the X-Men and worked directly with the Fantastic Four. She deserves a lot better than being on the sidelines. Oh, and Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo already wants to play her!

Spider-Gwen

By now, we’ve arguably seen too many Peter Parker / Spider-Man movies play out, so wouldn’t it be sweet to see a twist with Spider-Gwen leading a spinoff next time around? Spider-Gwen is a comic book character that began in 2015 that follows Gwen Stacy, who is famously Peter Parker’s ill-fated first girlfriend. Except it’s about her life in another universe where she is the one to get the spider bite and it’s Peter who dies in her arms. The character was of course explored as a Sony animated character in the Spider-Verse movies.

Now that the multiverse has been opened in the MCU, it would be exciting to see another version of the Spider-Man origin story through a live-action Spider-Gwen, who by the way has a super cool rock band called The Mary Janes. It’d be an especially great idea with Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, who he could accidentally meet (both from other universes) and have a love story across dimensions. I could also see actors like Yellowjackets’ Sophie Thatcher, Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer, House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock or Wednesday’s Emma Myers playing a more age-accurate version of the comic book character.

Captain Carter

After Steve Rogers found his happy ending with Peggy Carter in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has brought back Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, an alternate version of Captain America where Peggy gets the super serum instead of Steve Rogers in the animated What If…? series and with a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Along with Anthony Mackie taking up the mantle in the new Avengers movies, it would be a blast to see Atwell’s version of Captain America in live action for longer than a single scene.

Let me remind you that Atwell’s Captain America character has long been a favorite, having a two-season run on ABC’s Agent Carter as well. And now that Chris Evans has hung up his shield, it’d be fun for the studio to take their What If idea to the big screen, perhaps as a multiverse spinoff storyline. With Robert Downey set to be Doctor Doom, I’d imagine the superhero team could use all the help they could get, but I’d watch an entire solo movie with Atwell back as the character. Even if it’s just an espionage film from the WWII days.

Scarlet Witch

Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is arguably the strongest Avenger in the MCU. The character has been featured in multiple Avengers films, the first Marvel Disney+ show WandaVision of course, and last time we saw her in 2022, she supposedly died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.They also built on the world of witches in the MCU with last year’s Agatha All Along series, which was a rare and welcome MCU series with a dominantly female cast.

While one might think Marvel is done with her, given the Vision series is still on the way and Joe Locke confirmed to be her son, Billy Maximoff, I’d love to see a feature film with all eyes on one of the most wildly complex members of the Avengers.

Okoye

In 2018’s Black Panther, the vast world of Wakanda was introduced to audiences to stunning results. Since then, I’ve always loved seeing Danai Gurira’s Okoye, who started as the General of the Dora Milaje and even joined the Avengers for Infinity War and Endgame before the events of Black Panther 2 where she was stripped of her rank by Queen Ramonda.

While we previously heard in 2021 that she might get a TV spinoff that was debunked by Marvel exec Brad Winderbaum recently who said he didn’t think she would be in a TV show but fans will be “excited to come back,” but couldn’t “say where.” Clearly Marvel sees the potential for the character to thrive further, but I sincerely hope she gets to lead a project soon.

America Chavez

When Xochitl Gomez was cast as America Chavez for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, I definitely thought she’d have much more to do than she did, but hey, there was a lot going on in that movie. Last we left her, she was brought under the care of Wong to learn the mystic arts. When she spoke to CinemaBlend about her future back in 2022, she had hopes to get into America’s connection with Kang, but now that storyline has pivoted, I’m worried the MCU won’t know what to do with her.

Of course, given America’s powers to travel to different dimensions, she could easily star in her own coming-of-age adventure where she’s perhaps exploring the multiverse on a smaller scale than an Avengers flick, but I also hope she’ll be recruited to the new team, of course.

Valkyrie

Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie quickly became a fan-favorite when she appeared in Thor: Ragnarok and since then, Marvel has promoted the character to King of Asgard as Chris Hemsworth’s hero went down a rough road during the Infinity War, along with her return in Thor: Love and Thunder. But, I’d also follow the superheroine to other corners of the universe even without the God of Thunder.

While Tessa Thompson’s specific version was created for the movies, her origins tie in with the Secret Avengers and the Fearless Defenders with characters like Misty Knight, Danielle Moonstar and Elsa Bloodstone. She could definitely lead a team of ladies in her own flick.

Yelena Belova 

We waited way too long for the Black Widow solo movie and then when it came out Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova stole the show right under from Scarlett Johansson. The younger sister of Black Widow has an intriguing way forward in the MCU given she has the chance to be the hero the studio was somewhat still figuring out with her arc. Yelena recently helped free an army of Black Widow soldiers and could have her own espionage thriller within the universe.

Of course, Thunderbolts* seems to have her potentially taking center stage in the summer team up movie also involving Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, Taskmaster, Sentry, Ghost and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, but I certainly wonder if the movie will truly give her a leading role and set up a future where she can be a key female member of the MCU.

The Wasp 

In 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet Van Dyne reunited with her family after thirty years stuck in the Quantum Realm. With that in mind, there are three decades of a missing timeline for the OG Wasp that could be a really interesting way for the MCU to explore the Quantum Realm itself.

It could play like a survivor movie where Janet finds herself in a mysterious place and learns to live in a reality where “all concepts of time and space become irrelevant as you shrink for all eternity” as Hank Pym has described it. We definitely got to see more of Janet Van Dyne in Quantumania, but I’d definitely be up for exploring more of Wasp’s life in the Quantum Realm.

Jessica Jones

Remember when Netflix made Marvel shows? Well, ever since Charlie Cox’s Daredevil made a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, these characters belong to Disney/Marvel Studios now. And the Daredevil: Born Again series has made the return of more Netflix Marvel heroes feel more possible than ever. In addition to Cox’s Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher entering the MCU, all the shows from the comic book universe Netflix explored are also now available to watch on Disney+ including Jessica Jones.

So technically, Jessica Jones could become part of the MCU, or at least have her own movie from the studio. Krysten Ritter’s character is a well-loved one who could continue her story on the big screen following the cancellation of her magnificent series. Plus, Ritter herself said she “one hundred percent would return” as Jessica Jones, citing that the character she spent five years on is “very important” to her and many fans.

So many ideas for the next female Marvel solo movie! We’ll have to wait and see which characters get movies next. Stay tuned here on CinemaBlend for more updates about the expanding MCU.

Hollywood is an industry that has become synonymous with the American Dream and what would the story of the American dream be without immigrants? The United States is built on generations of people coming in from all over the world to build a country that in many ways is a combination of many cultures from outside America. The immigrant experience is a nearly universal one many Americans can relate to, but one that cannot be defined in one way. In celebration of our immigrants, we’re highlighting some famous actors’ stories, including Shang Chi star Simu Liu. 

Breaking into the movie industry is not an easy safe to crack, but these actors not only pulled it off, they’ve also used their platforms to bring light to their personal experiences as immigrants or children of immigrants. Let’s take a look: 

Simu Liu 

Okay, so Simu Liu is Canadian, but the breakout Marvel star has taken a refreshingly candid approach to speaking to his roots having Canadian-Chinese parents. This spring he’s releasing a memoir called We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story to explore his roots ahead of starring in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Liu was born in China in 1989, at a time when his parents were given the opportunity to study in America. Liu was raised by his grandparents until the age of 5, when he was brought to Canada to live with them. 

As Liu recalled in a 2017 column in Maclean’s, he long had a difficult relationship with his parents as their wishes for him were to find a stable 9-to-5 and he got fired from his accounting firm eight months in. It was then that Liu decided to pursue work in the world of movies, beginning with a minimum wage job on a Guillermo del Toro movie. After years of odd jobs, Liu found a steady TV  gig on Kim’s Convinience before nabbing the Marvel hero role. As he’s shared, his relationship with his parents, being the child of immigrants being raised in a Western world, especially where anti-Asian rhetoric can be a concern, was not always easy, but as he grew older, he realized his upbringing helped pave his path, even if it’s much different than they envisioned. 

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek grew up in Mexico as the daughter of immigrants as well, with a Spanish mother and Lebanese father. As a young woman, Hayek quit school to pursue acting and became a telenovela star in her native country, per Biography. However, Hayek was especially ambitious and decided to move to Los Angeles to make it in Hollywood. In a 2003 guest appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Hayek shared her experience: 

Hayek’s big break was in Robert Rodriguez’s Desperado alongside Antonio Banderas back in 1995 before becoming a massive Hollywood star, beginning her own production company and becoming the first Latin actress to be nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars. As Hayek recently reflected on The Drew Barrymore Show, when she was rejected early in her incredible career, she couldn’t help but be aware of the untapped market of Latinos Hollywood was ignoring at the time. Nowadays, Hayek is one of the most beloved actors of our time with a great immigrant story about going against the grain. 

Kumail Nanjiani

Another recent Marvel star and Salma Hayek’s fellow Eternals co-star Kumail Nanjiani hails originally from Karachi, Pakistan and was raised as a Muslim. After high school, Nanjiani moved to Iowa where he studied computer science and philosophy before he started doing stand-up comedy in Chicago. Being a young immigrant, Nanjiani’s comedy has often skewed toward his experience as a topic of conversation, such as this observation, per USA Today:  

Nanjiani got his big break with a role in Silicon Valley, but when he and his wife Emily Gordon adapted their love story into 2017’s critically-acclaimed The Big Sick, Nanjiani’s immigrant story was given a larger stage. Since then, Nanjiani has become an A-list star, but continues to make his roots part of his storytelling, such as with his Little America series, which can be viewed with an AppleTV+ subscription, and has become the first South Asian superhero in Eternals. 

Mila Kunis

That ‘70s Show actress Mila Kunis was born in Ukraine and then moved to United States when she was seven, in the ‘80s, after the fall of the Soviet Union. The actress once told Glamour about her family’s immigrant story: 

As Kunis shared, her parents ultimately found their way in the U.S, with her father owning cabs and her mother working her way up to be a manager at Rite-Aid. Even though they had treacherous immigration beginnings, Kunis felt like she “never missed out on anything” because they did such a “beautiful job” of not making her feel poor. These days, Kunis is an accomplished actress and wife to Ashton Kutcher, who she has two kids with. 

Diane Guerrero

Diane Guerrero was a breakout star in Netflix’s award-winning series Orange is the New Black for numerous seasons before also being part of Jane the Virgin, the DC universe for Doom Patrol and in Disney’s latest hit Encanto, as the voice of Isabela. Guerrero is a New Jersey-born American actress, but grew up as the only member in her immediate family with U.S. citizenship, her parents being immigrants from Colombia. As Guerrero shared to NPR, when she was 14 she experienced her parents getting deported. In her words: 

Diane Guerrero ended up being taken in by her friend’s family for the school year and visiting her parents in prison. She also recalls being “looked as less” as an American citizen with undocumented parents. Guerrero has used her platform to be a big advocate for immigration reform since her experience. 

Vanessa Hudgens 

Vanessa Hudgens is also an American-born actress, with her father being a native of the U.S. whereas her Filipina mother’s native country is Manila. Following the actress’ success in High School Musical, a number of Netflix holiday films and the recent Oscar-nominated movie Tick, Tick… Boom!, Hudgens has shared that she wants to make a movie about her mother’s immigration story. She said this: 

There are many forms of immigration stories and the millions of people living in America and other countries after making the difficult adjustment is an important thing for people with big platforms like these actors to continue to discuss. 

Blockbuster actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is no stranger to sharing career news with his fanbase on social media, but he recently left a lot of people scratching their heads after sharing a feature-worthy poster of himself decked out in godly CGI'd attire for what appeared to be a new project called Zeus. As it turns out, theater audiences shouldn't be expecting another big screen franchise from the Terminator vet after all, but rather a ridiculous Super Bowl commercial from the marketing team at BMW.

As evidenced in the commercial above, Arnold Schwarzenegger went all fluffy-haired and thick-bearded not for a new film focusing on the greatest of all the Greek gods, but rather for a big-budget television ad set to air on the most-viewed day of TV in any given year: Super Bowl Sunday. While I have no doubt many people out there would love to know what kind of movie would have been birthed from the poster that the actor shared, let's all just assume it would have been a wasteful hack job, just so we can get on with our days.

For anyone confused about how this vid that feels more set up as a coffee shop ad is meant to promote consumer spending on BMW vehicles, it should be noted that the video released by BMW is only a teaser for the longer version. It's presumed that the full-length ad will be aired in multiple parts throughout the NFL game's runtime, given how expensive the 30-second slots already are. They could buy a WHOLE lot of coffees, let's just say that.

The angle here seems to be that even though Zeus is this big powerful deity of legend, he's not immune to the woes and aggravations of everyday life, such as having one's name brutally mispronounced by a cafe barista. He probably has to deal with other shit, too, like way-too-short green lights during heavy traffic, mishandled fast food orders, and spotty internet connections during storms. But if they try and tell me Zeus is losing single socks in the dryer on a regular basis, I'm going to have to tell BMW to try again. 

Another piece of super exciting news is that Salma Hayek will also be part of this BMW campaign, and will appear in the overall ad as Zeus' wife Hera. While we have yet to see her in action, we do have a first look via a revised version of the initial "movie" poster.

I bet everybody gets thy queen's name correct on coffee cups. And whatever other cups.

 I know I'm not alone in hoping upon hopes that Super Bowl Sunday will also be the day when fans get their first look at Arnold Schwarzenegger reuniting with Danny DeVito for the long-awaited Twins sequel Triplets, with Eddie Murphy having previously signed on as a third co-star. Of course, now I think I'd be equally pleased to see DeVito wearing the exact same Zeus costume that Schwarzenegger is in the BMW ad.

If I had to place my bets on what the actor will be doing on this day his big commercial makes its linear debut, I'd say that noted Yellowstone fan Arnold Schwarzenegger will be tuning into the latest episode of 1883 on Paramount+, which takes place in a time where BMWs would look like science fiction miracles. But maybe he likes the Rams or something.

As it goes each year, Super Bowl LVI will likely offer a deluge of funny, eye-catching ads when it airs on Sunday, February 13, with all kinds of NFL coverage happening beforehand, and all kinds of Winter Olympics footage airing after the big game. There are some movies that I grew up watching and loving more and more each time I saw it. While Grown Ups wasn’t the best received Adam Sandler movie, it was one of my favorites for the sheer hilarity it offered, as well as the fun cast that it gathered to portray this funny group of friends. 

Speaking of the cast, with this movie being nearly twelve years old now (I know, I can’t believe it either), where exactly is the cast of Grown Ups now? From Adam Sandler to Salma Hayek, everyone has had their own projects and big films, while also returning to do movies and films together. Here is what the cast of Grown Ups is doing now.  

Adam Sandler (Lenny Feder)

Starting off with the main star of Grown Ups, we have Adam Sandler, who portrayed Lenny Feder. And unsurprisingly, Sandler has been up to his teeth in movies. 

For one, he was the main star of the Hotel Transylvania series, up until the 2022 movie, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania. Besides his fun voice-acting skills, he’s appeared in several movies, most of which he also produced. This includes, but is not limited to Grown Ups 2, Pixels, The Ridiculousness 6, Hubie Halloween and more.  He’s also had two movie that he’s co-starred with Jennifer Aniston with, Just Go With It and Murder Mystery, which is receiving a sequel on Netflix soon. 

In addition to his numerous comedies, Adam Sandler starred in the 2019 crime thriller Uncut Gems from Josh and Benny Safdie. 

Sandler has also popped up in several TV shows, such as Kevin Can Wait, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and he guest starred on Jessie with his late Grown Ups on-screen son, Cameron Boyce.

Coming up, he has a number of movies lined up, including Murder Mystery 2,  Spaceman and Hustle.

Kevin James (Eric Lamonsoff)

Next up, we have Kevin James, who played Eric Lamansoff in Grown Ups. James has appeared in many movies, like Grown Ups 2, Zookeeper, Pixels, the Paul Blart: Mall Cop series, Sandy Wexler, Hubie Halloween and more. James also received a starring role in the Hotel Transylvania series alongside Adam Sandler. 

On television, James has had many guest roles, but two of his biggest projects were his own sitcom, titled Kevin Can Wait, as well the comedy series, The Crew. Coming up, James is going to appear in Home Team, which is being produced by Adam Sandler. 

Chris Rock (Kurt McKenzie)

Another hilarious comedian, Chris Rock played Kurt McKenzie in Grown Ups, and has been quite active in the movie industry. He has appeared in a variety of genres, showcasing his acting skills. Since the family film he's been in Grown Ups 2, What To Expect When You’re Expecting, the Madagascar series, Top Five, the Eddie Murphy-led film, Dolemite Is My Name, the 2021 horror film, Spiral: The Book of Saw, and more. 

In television, he’s guest starred on many shows, as has many of his co-stars, but one of his most notable TV roles in recent years was playing Loy Cannon on the FX series, Fargo. Rock has also had a comedy special on Netflix, titled Chris Rock: Tamborine that you should check out. 

Coming up, he’s going to be appearing in three new projects, two with titles, Rustin and I Am Maurice, and one untitled David O. Russell project, although there hasn’t been any new news about that since January 2021. 

David Spade (Marcus Higgins)

Moving on, we have former SNL star David Spade, who played Marcus Higgins in Grown Ups. Since his appearance, Spade has been active in both movies and TV. Some of his biggest roles in recent years have been appearing in the Hotel Transylvania series, Grown Ups 2, The Ridiculous 6, Sandy Wexler, Father of the Year and more. 

With television, Spade has had roles in many shows as a recurring character, including Fameless, Roadies, Rules of Engagement and more. Spade also hosted his own talk show called Lights Out with David Spade, as well as appeared several times as himself in many shows. He’s going to be in a new HBO series, but not much else is known about that just yet. 

Rob Schneider (Rob Hilliard)

Another former SNL star, Rob Schneider played Rob Hilliard in Grown Ups, and while he didn’t appear in the sequel like many of his other co-stars, he still continued to have a very successful career since the family film. With movies, he’s appeared in films such as The Outback, Wings, The Ridiculous 6, Norm of the North, Sandy Wexler, Hubie Halloween and more. 

Schneider has also been active in television, appearing in many shows such as the sitcom series, Rob, in which he starred, Real Rob, another sitcom series in which he starred, and several guest roles. He also competed on The Masked Singer in 2021. Soon, he’s also going to be making an appearance in Home Team. I’m starting to see a trend here. 

Salma Hayek (Roxanne Chase-Feder)

I think out of all the on-screen love interests Adam Sandler has had in his movies, Salma Hayek from Grown Ups, who played Roxanne, is one of my favorites thanks to her amazing personality that she adds to the movie. Since her role in Grown Ups, Hayek has continued to have a very successful career. 

She’s had roles in movies like Grown Ups 2, Here Comes the Boom, Everly, The Hitman’s Bodyguard as well as its sequel in 2021, Like A Boss, and was a part of both the Eternals cast and the House of Gucci cast, in addition to other movies. Hayek has also had some fun with television as well, with two recurring guest-star roles on both Ugly Betty and 30 Rock. 

The actress doesn’t seem to have anything coming up just yet, but I can’t wait to see what else she does after her stellar year in 2021 with both Eternals and House of Gucci. 

Maria Bello (Sally Lamonsoff)

Moving on, we have Maria Bello, who portrayed Sally Lamansoff in Grown Ups, the wife of Kevin James’ character. Since her role in the family comedy, Bello has continued to have quite the career in both movies and TV. 

In film, she’s has big roles in films like Grown Ups 2, Beautiful Boy, Abduction, McFarland USA, Prisoners alongside the lead actor, Hugh Jackman, The 5th Wave, Max Steel, Every Day, Better Start Running, The Water Man and more. Television is where Bello has shined even more. She’s had several recurring roles in shows like Touch, Prime Suspect, and Goliath, but her biggest role so far was playing Jacqueline “Jack” Sloane in NCIS, a role she left in 2021. 

Maya Rudolph (Deanne McKenzie)

Next up, SNL alum Maya Rudolph played Deanne McKenzie, the wife of Chris Rock’s character, in Grown Ups. And since her appearance in the movie, Rudolph has had quite the career. Not long after Grown Ups did she star in the Bridesmaids cast, another comedy that blew up, and she only continued to grow afterwards. 

She’s appeared in many films, including Grown Ups 2, Big Hero 6, Wine Country, The Willoughbys, Life of the Party, the Angry Birds franchise, Hubie Halloween and more. She was also a part of the Luca cast, the Mitchells vs. the Machines cast, and the Licorice Pizza cast all in 2021 - talk about a packed year. 

Rudolph has also had success in television. She’s had recurring and main roles in shows such as Up All Night, Portlandia, The Awesomes, The Good Place, Forever and more, as well as being a part of the adult animated series, Big Mouth on Netflix and having her own baking show, called Baking It. Coming up, she will be in the new Disenchanted movie, as well the Big Mouth spinoff TV series, Human Resources. 

Joyce Van Patten (Gloria Noonan)

The next cast member to talk about is Joyce Van Patten, who played Gloria Noonan in Grown Ups. Since her role in the movie, Patten has appeared in films such as Angel’s Perch, God’s Pocket and more. She’s also guest starred in several television shows like The Good Wife and Boardwalk Empire. 

Patten doesn’t have anything in the works right now, but hopefully it won’t be long before we see her on our TV or movie screens again. 

Colin Quinn (Dickie Bailey)

Next up, we have Dickie Bailey, who was played by Colin Quinn. The SNL alum has been active both in the acting world and in the writing world, having roles in both TV and film, as well as working behind the scenes. 

As an actor, Quinn has popped up in roles in movies like Grown Ups 2, Trainwreck, Sandy Wexler, Hubie Halloween and others. He’s also been active in television, having recurring roles in shows like Girls, The Awesomes, Inside Amy Schumer, and more. 

Quinn has also been very active in comedy and writing. In 2015 and 2020, he wrote two biographies titled The Coloring Book: A Comedian Solves Race Relations in America and Overstated: A Coast-to-Coast Roast of the 50 States. He’s also had several comedy specials on Netflix and HBO, and has gone on tour for his stand-up.

Steve Buscemi (Wiley)

Steve Buscemi, while he wasn’t in the film for long, had an impactful part as Wiley in Grown Ups, and has continued to succeed in Hollywood, both on the big screen and the small screen.

As well as appearing in Grown Ups 2, Buscemi has appeared in many movies such as the Pixar movie, Monsters University, On the Road, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, the Hotel Transylvania series, The Ridiculous 6, The Boss Baby, The Death of Stalin, The Dead Don’t Die, The King of Staten Island and more. 

Buscemi has also had an active career in television. Besides appearing on several TV shows, like 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Buscemi has had leading roles in both Boardwalk Empire and Miracle Workers. He also hosted his own talk show called Park Bench with Steve Buscemi. Coming up, he’s going to be appearing in a new movie titled The Year Between. 

Tim Meadows (Malcolm)

Last but not least, we have another former SNL star, Tim Meadows, who played Malcolm in Grown Ups. Since his appearance in the movie, Meadows has appeared in both film and television. With movies, he had roles in Grown Ups 2, Trainwreck, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, Hubie Halloween and a couple of other independent movies. 

In television, he had many recurring roles including The Colbert Report, Suburgatory, Bob’s Burgers, The Goldbergs, No Activity and more. He’s also had lead roles in shows such as Son of Zorn, Marry Me and Schooled (which was a spinoff of The Goldbergs). Coming up, he’s going to appear in a new film titled Saurus City as a voice actor, so keep an eye out for him. 

With so many talented actors, it’s no wonder they went on to succeed so well. I for one can’t wait for Home Team to come out as part of the 2022 movies so I can see a lot of them together again. Or watch any of their awesome movies or shows.  

Ah, the fall season. It’s often the best time of the year for movies as studios roll out award contenders and the heavy-hitters bring in audiences during their time off with family and friends. It’s also common to see our share of “based on a true story” movies during this season, one of which is Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci. The movie stars Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani and Adam Driver as her husband Maurizio Gucci, and it explores the events that led to his murder. With the Gucci family front and center, it’s not surprising they’re speaking out about the film’s depiction of them. 

House of Gucci is based on the book of the same name written by Sara Gay Forden and directed by Blade Runner’s Ridley Scott. Following the movie’s successful first weekend in theaters and audience buzz, the Gucci family released a statement, which has been translated from Italian. In part, the Guccis said: 

These comments were first reported on Italian news agency ANSA (via Variety) and show some distaste for the depiction of the Gucci family in House of Gucci. As the family shared, the Ridley Scott film chose not to reach out to them before the likes of Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Jared Leto and Adam Driver took on the roles of the fashion family. The statement also said the following: 

This is a response that has become common among dramas based on the real events for the real people they are based on to speak out, especially when they are shown in a negative light. Mark Zuckerberg did so for The Social Network, and recently, the real woman who was portrayed by Jennifer Lopez in Hustlers attempted to sue the movie’s studio for telling her story without her permission. 

The Guccis are not currently taking legal action against the production company behind the movie, and as it goes with movies such as this, it’s a story in the public domain and up to filmmakers’ own interpretation. Movies are under no obligation to consult the subjects of movies, including House of Gucci, and get their approval prior to using their names to tell a story. 

Outside Of The Gucci Family, Designer Tom Ford Also Didn’t Love The Movie

Aside from the Gucci family, fashion designer Tom Ford, who is portrayed by Reeve Carney in House of Gucci, has also spoken out about his distaste with the movie's choices. In his words in Airmail:  

There is something to be said about how the subjects of the film react to parts of their own reality being depicted on screen. Perhaps, House of Gucci is a “hurricane” when placed next to history, or maybe they are too close to the subject? House of Gucci is now playing in theaters. 

In my opinion, many of the best Ridley Scott movies are his historical biopics, such as 2007’s Black Hawk Down or American Gangster.  That is only one reason why I have been anticipating House of Gucci - based on the book by Sara Gay Forden about Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) and her conspiratorial crusade to take control of the fashion dynasty from her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver). 

The other main reason why this is one of my most anticipated 2021 movies is the Oscar darlings in the House of Gucci cast (also including Jared Leto), whose greatest accomplishments in the acting world and beyond we will summarize for you below.

Lady Gaga (Patrizia Reggiani)

Playing Patrizia “The Black Widow” Reggiani - whose marriage into the Gucci family would end in blood - in House of Gucci is Lady Gaga, whose talents outside of singing would be revealed only a matter of time after the extremely theatrical pop star broke into the mainstream in the late 2000s. 

After making her feature-film debut in in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills in 2013, the actress (born Stefani Germanotta) reunited with the filmmaker for a small role in 2014’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and played herself in Muppets Most Wanted the same year. In 2016, her performance as the vampiric Countess on American Horror Story: Hotel earned her a Golden Globe and, in 2019, she received two Academy Award nominations for A Star is Born, and won for co-writing “Shallow.”

Adam Driver (Maurizio Gucci) 

After The Last Duel, House of Gucci is Ridley Scott’s second fact-based film released in 2021 to star Adam Driver, who plays Maurizio Gucci - who was killed in 1995 by a hitman hired by his ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani. 

The former Marine and former Girls cast member has worked with many other great filmmakers including Steven Spielberg (Lincoln), Joel and Ethan Coen (Inside Llewyn Davis), and Martin Scorsese (Silence), to name a few. Driver has been nominated for acting Oscars twice (first in 2019 for BlacKkKlansman, and then for Netflix’s Marriage Story the following year), but he is most famous, of course, for playing Kylo Ren in the Star Wars movies. 

Jared Leto (Paolo Gucci)

Also known for making chart-topping hits with his band, 30 Seconds to Mars, and starring in a few blockbusters (notably Suicide Squad as The Joker and the upcoming Morbius in the title role) is Jared Leto, who looks completely unrecognizable as Maurizio Gucci’s cousin, Paolo, in House of Gucci. 

The actor (who has actually done a few Gucci ads) experienced his first breakthrough on the coming-of-age dramedy, My So-Called Life, years before scoring small but memorable parts in movies like Fight Club or American Psycho, leading to roles in surreal favorites like Requiem for a Dream or Mr. Nobody. Arguably, Leto’s best work might be his other stunning supporting performances in Blade Runner 2049 in 2017, and 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club, for which he earned his Academy Award.

Jeremy Irons (Rodolfo Gucci)

Also known for starring in DC movies (as Alfred Pennyworth to Ben Affleck’s Batman) and even DC TV shows (Adrian Veidt in HBO’s Watchmen cast) is fellow Oscar-winner (for Reversal of Fortune) Jeremy Irons, who plays Maurizio’s father, Rodolfo Gucci. 

Arguably, his best work is when he is playing a villain, such as Scar in Disney’s original animated The Lion King in 1994, or as Hans Gruber’s brother, Simon, in Die Hard with a Vengeance the following year. Next on Irons’ agenda is a horror movie called Cello, and another biopic called Frankel about Sir Henry Cecil and his titular horse.

Al Pacino (Aldo Gucci)

Only known for one comic book movie (Dick Tracy), and a favorite at the Oscars despite only one win (for 1992’s Scent of a Woman) is Al Pacino - whose House of Gucci role, Aldo Gucci, was the eldest son of the company’s founder, Guccio Gucci, and its chairman from 1953 to 1986. 

In addition to starring in other films about infamous family dynasties (The Godfather movies) and historical biopics (Martin Scorsese’s Netflix original The Irishman, most recently), the living legend’s filmography is chock full of iconic crime thrillers (such as Michael Mann’s heist classic Heat) and even a few comedies (such as Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). Pacino will next be seen in another crime drama called Sniff, and is starring in Michael Radford’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s King Lear as the title character.

Salma Hayek (Giuseppina Auriemma)

Making her comic book movie debut in 2021 with Eternals was Academy Award nominee Salma Hayek, who is actually married to François-Henri Pinault - the son of the founder of Gucci’s parent company (now called Kering) - and plays Patrizia Reggiani’s alleged co-conspirator, Giuseppina Auriemma, in House of Gucci. 

Like her co-star, Lady Gaga, the Latinx has also worked with Robert Rodriguez several times (such as in From Dusk Till Dawn) and appeared as herself in Muppets Most Wanted, as well as a few biopics (like Frida, for which she earned her Oscar nod), crime thrillers (such as Oliver Stone’s Savages), and comedies (including the animated Sausage Party in 2016). Also in 2021, she reprised her role as Sonia Kincaid in Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, and starred opposite Owen Wilson in the the Amazon Original sci-fi movie Bliss.

Jack Huston (Domenico De Sole)

Before playing former Gucci America president and current Tom Ford International chairman, Domenico De Sole, in House of Gucci, Jack Huston had already starred in a few dramatizations of infamous historical tragedies.  

He played Gerard Malanga (an associate of Andy Warhol) in 2005’s Factory Girl, author Jack Kerouac in 2013’s Kill Your Darlings, and starred as Robert Kennedy (around the time of his assassination) in The Irishman. The former Boardwalk Empire cast member also appeared in American Hustle, played the title hero of the 2016 Ben-Hur remake, and is working on a crime thriller with Robert De Niro called Wash Me in the River. 

Camille Cottin (Paola Franchi)

Former Italian model Paola Franchi - who was dating Maurizio Gucci at the time of his assassination - is played in House of Gucci by Camille Cottin. The French actress and comedian made her English-language debut in 2018 with another historical film called Allied, also starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, and would later star opposite Matt Damon in Stillwater in 2021. She is currently filming a biopic about “Iron Lady of Israel” Golda Meir with Helen Mirren.

Reeve Carney (Tom Ford)

Playing fashion mogul turned award-winning filmmaker Tom Ford in House of Gucci, we have Reeve Carney, who made his debut on the sitcom Dave's World in 1994, years before appearing in films like The Tempest from director Julie Taymor, whom he also worked with on Broadway's Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark in the title role.

After playing Dorian Gray on Showtime's Penny Dreadful, Carney played Riff Raff in Fox's remake, The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again in 2016 and acted alongside Zoë Kravitz in Gemini the following year. Next, he will star in the biopic Everybody Here Wants You as late musician Jeff Buckley - a role the Grammy-winning musician and former lead singer of the band Carney is an ideal choice for.

Clearly it would take acting royalty to portray a group of people considered royalty in the fashion industry and it looks like that is exactly what we are in for with the cast of House of Gucci, which hits theaters Wednesday, November 24, 2021.

It’s barely been over a month since director Ridley Scott’s last movie, The Last Duel, premiered in theaters, but now the filmmaker has another cinematic offering to deliver for the Thanksgiving holiday. House of Gucci delves into Patrizia Reggiani’s marriage to Maurizio Gucci and navigating the Gucci fashion empire, with its heavy-hitting cast includes Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Al Pacino and Salma Hayek. We got our first taste of what early viewers thought about Scott’s new movie a couple weeks ago, but now the fully-written reviews are pouring in. So what do critics have to say about House of Gucci?

Starting off, CinemaBlend’s own Sean O’Connell awarded House of Gucci 4 out of 5 stars in his review, describing it as The Godfather for fashion and complimenting both its story and performances. However, Sean acknowledged that the movie is by no means “subtle,” and that people should watch the movie knowing that this will be a larger-than-life affair.

Leah Greenblatt from Entertainment Weekly also leaned positively on House of Gucci, stamping it with a B grade. Leah felt that this kind of story might have been better if it “fully committed to the high camp” and ditched some of the more serious moments, but there’s still enough to enjoy in the final product, particularly when it comes to what the actors bring to the table.

But there are also a fair amount of critics who weren’t impressed with House of Gucci. Take Den of Geek’s David Crow. who gave the movie a 2.5 out of 5 score. David felt that while The Last Duel handled its sensitive subject matter “with intelligence and delicacy,” House of Gucci’s exploration of “potentially gaudy material” failed to “shape it into much of anything.” He described the movie as a whole as “bare and distant.”

Tara Bennett from IGN rated House of Gucci a 6 out of 10 in her review, saying how the movie started with “such promise” through the performances, but it becomes problematic when Ridley Scott starts focusing more on the fall of the Gucci company rather than the implosion of Patrizia Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci’s relationship.

Finally, to end on a more positive note, USA Today’s Brian Truitt thought House of Gucci deserved 3 out of 4 stars. Truitt commended Ridley Scott for creating “an extremely stylish world of runways, ostentatious estates and stunning costumes for his various characters,” and was also impressed with the performances, although Lady Gaga was the clear standout in his mind.

These are just some of the House of Gucci reviews that have been published, but overall, it sounds like while this is hardly one of the lesser entries on Ridley Scott’s filmography, it also won’t go down as one of his best. At the very least, those who decided to see House of Gucci are in for some wild work from its actors, although it’s a coin toss whether you’ll appreciate said work.

When she played Mexican surrealist artist Frida Kahlo in Frida, Salma Hayek took on the major task of portraying one of the most idealized, complex artists of the 20th Century, and a female icon. The movie gave a vibrant portrayal of Frida by giving viewers more insight into the sometimes tragic life of Frida, including a retelling of her biggest struggles and showcasing the beauty in her art. 

Frida won several Academy Awards and gained Hayek praise for her role as Frida. Frida is one of the movies that fans most associate with Salma Hayek, and it’s the role that made many take her more seriously as a dramatic actress. It’s also an important Latinx film that’s worth watching.

From Dusk Till Dawn (AMC+)

From Dusk Till Dawn is probably one of Salma Hayek’s most well-known movies, especially because of her unforgettable entrance into the film. Robert Rodriguez directed From Dusk Till Dawn and Quentin Tarantino wrote the screenplay for the movie. It stars George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Juliette Lewis, and Harvey Keitel. The plot of From Dusk Till Dawn involves bank robber brothers ending up in a bar infested with vampires.

Hayek plays stripper and seductress Santanico Pandemonium. From Dusk Till Dawn is a unique entry into the vampire genre that plays on both the strengths of Tarantino and Rodriguez with writing and directing. Hayek’s role isn’t as main as some of the other characters in the film, but she’s one of the ones people most associate with From Dusk Till Dawn.

Fools Rush In (Amazon Prime Video)

Fools Rush In is a charming romantic comedy that stars Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek. It’s an unconventional romance story that involves a one-night stand that leads to a lifelong commitment. Isabela (Hayek) and Alex (Perry) are opposites who have to figure out how to make it work. 

Though Fools Rush In isn’t a perfect film, it’s one that many millennials and Generation Xers grew up watching, so there is a sense of nostalgia and joy associated with this movie. It’s also just a cute romantic comedy that makes it hard not to root for Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek’s characters ending up together.

In The Time Of The Butterflies (Youtube)

In the Time of the Butterflies is a Showtime original movie based on Julia Alvarez’s book of the same name. It’s a fictionalized account of the Mirabal sisters. They were three sisters who took a stand against the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo in the 1950s and 1960, and it led to dire consequences. In the Time of the Butterflies stars Salma Hayek, Edward James Olmos, Mia Maestro, and Marc Anthony. 

In the Time of the Butterflies is one of those tragic stories that breaks your heart, haunts you, and reminds you of the darkness that exists in this world sometimes. The film is based on real events, so that’s what makes it even more of a gut punch. It’s one of the most powerful Salma Hayek movies.

Desperado (Netflix)

Desperado is one of Salma Hayek, Robert Rodriguez, and Antonio Banderas’s many collaborations. It’s considered the second film in Rodriguez's Mexico Trilogy: the other films include El Mariachi and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. This is the first film in that trilogy to include Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas. The cast of Desperado also includes Joaquim de Almeida, Steve Buscemi, and Cheech Marin.

Desperado, like most westerns, is about a man on a journey of revenge and bringing down a very bad man. However, it’s a western made by Robert Rodriguez so you can count on lots of action, violence, and his signature film style.

Once Upon A Time In Mexico (Tubi)

Once Upon a Time In Mexico is the final chapter in Robert Rodriguez’s Mexico Trilogy. It marks the return of Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas as Carolina and El Mariachi. The Once Upon a Time in Mexico cast also includes Johnny Depp, Mickey Rourke, and Eva Mendes. Cheech Marin and Danny Trejo also appear in both Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. 

Once Upon a Time in Mexico marks the end of Rodriguez’s Mexico trilogy, so he made sure to go out with a bang. It pays homage to classic western movies while maintaining Rodriguez’s grit and filmmaking enthusiasm. This isn’t a major Salma Hay movie, but good to watch if you want to know how El Mariachi and Carolina’s story ends.

Grown Ups (Netflix)

Grown Ups follows five childhood friends who reunite decades later for a July 4th celebration. The cast includes Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, and Maya Rudolph also have supporting roles in Grown Ups. The film was followed in 2013 with a sequel (Grown Ups 2).

Salma Hayek plays Adam Sandler’s character's wife.. The Grown Ups films are as much about these five men’s friendships as it is about their family struggles. Hayek and Sandler are a good on-screen team and you become invested in their marriage and family woes. It’s not Shakespeare but Grown Ups is a fun movie to watch if you’re in the mood for some silly comedy.

The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard (Amazon)

The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is the 2021 sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard. The film series stars Ryan Reynolds as Michael Bryce, a bodyguard who must work with a notorious hitman, Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson). Salma Hayek appears in both films as Darius’s wife Sonia Kincaid. However, she has a much bigger role in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. The film starts with Sonia seeking Michael’s help to save Darius, and then the movie sets off on its adventure.

Salma Hayek goes cartoon crazy as Sonia, but it’s what adds to this film’s fun. It’s a silly premise that works well because of the chemistry between the three leads, and because of how fully they embrace the wackiness of their characters and situations. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard also once again reunites Hayek and Antonio Banderas on-screen. This time he’s playing the lead antagonist.

Lonely Hearts (Amazon Prime Video)

Lonely Hearts is a film that follows two sets of characters. The first set is a serial killer couple who prey on spinsters and widows to rob them of their life-savings. Jared Leto and Salma Hayek play these characters, Raymond Martinez Fernandez and Martha Jule Beck. The other pair is the detectives trying to find them, Elmer C. Robinson (John Travolta) and Charles Hildebrandt (James Gandolfini).

Elmer is having a hard time coping with the unexpected death of his wife. The story of Martha and Raymond is the most interesting part of Lonely Hearts. Hayek and Leto have great chemistry together and give some of their best performances. They were magnetic together in a way only toxic couples could be; they’re terrible people but perfect for each other.

Ugly Betty (Hulu)

Ugly Betty was an ABC original series that aired from 2006 to 2010. It was one of the many adaptations of Yo soy Betty la Fea, but it was the first English-language version. It starred America Ferrera as Betty Suarez, a young woman who works in the fashion industry but doesn’t quite fit in. Ugly Betty also starred Eric Mabius, Vanessa Williams, Tony Plana, Ana Ortiz, Becki Newton, and Michael Urie.

Salma Hayek was one of the producers on the series, and according to IMDB, appeared in eight episodes. Her first appearance was in the background as a telenovela character, but then she had a guest stint on Ugly Betty Season 1.

30 Rock (Netflix)

Based on Tina Fey’s experience as a writer on Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock is a satirical comedy TV show about making a sketch comedy show. The show aired from 2006 to 2013. The 30 Rock cast included Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, and Jack McBrayer. 

Salma Hayek appeared on several episodes as Jack (Alec Baldwin)’s love interest, Elisa Pedrera. She appears in at least seven episodes of 30 Rock. Watch Hayek on 30 Rock to really see her explore her comedy chops.

In the design of superhero costumes, there are two qualities that are more important than anything else: they have to look awesome, and the actor wearing them has to be comfortable. Where this becomes tricky, of course, is when designs start to get more and more elaborate. Sometimes a bit of a sacrifice has to be offered by a performer in the name of their art, and Salma Hayek had such an experience in the making of Chloé Zhao’s Eternals, as she wound up walking away from set during some sequences with a literal pain in the neck.

The new Marvel blockbuster features Salma Hayek’s Ajak as the leader of the titular team, and part of her responsibility is communicating with Arishem, the Celestial who first brought them to Earth 7,000 years ago. There are sequences in the movie when the character is face-to-face with the god-like being, who is miles tall, and in the filming of those scenes the actor found herself in a fair amount of pain due to the combination of the additional weight on her head from the costuming, and continually craning her neck.

As featured in the video at the top of this article, I had the chance to interview Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie during the virtual press day for Eternals late last month, and it was while talking about the scenes with Arishem that she explained the special stress they provided:

Anyone who has ever experienced a neck strain can attest that it is quite terrible (you never think about how much your neck moves with the rest of your body until every shift you make sends a lightning bolt of pain through your brain). And looking at Ajak’s costume, one can instantly understand why it caused a bit of trouble.

The good news is that Salma Hayek’s scenes with Arishem in Eternals really are beautiful – and she even got a nice little extra support in the work from her co-star. Following up on Hayek’s comments, Angelina Jolie gave her friend a special complement, saying,

In the realm of Marvel Comics, there are household names (Spider-Man, The Hulk, Captain America) and there are fringe characters that comic readers know, but your friend who’s casually interested in the MCU might not. There we find heroes such as Moon Knight, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Ms. Marvel and the Eternals. Marvel hopes that by the end of this year, the entire movie-going audience both knows and loves the Eternals, similar to the way that crowds embraced Simu Liu as the martial arts expert Shang-Chi. But for the moment, Marvel isn’t too worried with the team flying under the radar, and here’s why. 

A long, long time ago, CinemaBlend traveled to London to visit the set of Chloe Zhao’s Eternals, a movie that has been delayed just as many times as the blockbusters that finally are reaching theaters now. Eternals was supposed to be the second film in Marvel’s Phase Four, and the first original swing by the studio after the prequel story Black Widow. Things changed, projects shifted, and Eternals finally is ready to reach multiplexes beginning on November 5. 

When sitting down with Nate Moore, Marvel Studios VP of Production & Development, on the Eternals set, we brought up the idea that audiences don’t really know the team, and he was quick to explain why that anonymity doesn’t really worry the company, as a whole. Moore said:

Nate Moore goes on to use perhaps the most famous actor-character combination in the MCU so far, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, to prove his point. When Marvel kicked off the MCU with Iron Man in 2008, Downey was a struggling actor, and no one knew the Iron Man  character. But Jon Favreau made a good movie, and the pieces all fell into place. Moore’s confident that the MCU model will prop up a new team in Eternals, and that audiences will trust enough in the studio as a brand to take a leap of faith and snag a ticket.

Marvel Studios’ Eternals has slowly become one of the most anticipated films of 2021, with part of that appeal being the stellar all-star cast. Of course, the biggest draw was Marvel’s ability to recruit Angelina Jolie. Being the Hollywood star she is, this superhero film could’ve turned into The Angelina Jolie Show. However, that didn’t happen during the filming of the Phase Four film, according to Kumail Nanjiani. The actor spoke on what it was like being on set with Jolie for Eternals.

From the outside, Angelina Jolie can give off a mysterious aura, but that persona is far from the truth, according to her Eternals co-star Kumail Nanjiani. Being on set with the screen icon was fun and light, according to Nanjiani. He revealed how comfortable the Oscar winner was on set with her co-stars, saying:

But Angelina Jolie wasn’t the only co-star Kumail Nanjiani couldn’t stop gushing over. He went on to talk about the presence of Salma Hayek, who plays the Eternals' leader Ajak, on set. The Eternals star said this about the Oscar-winner being so gracious:

Thankfully, Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek were able to set the tone for the rest of the cast. Being the stars they are, both actresses could’ve been standoffish toward everyone, but they decided to open themselves up to their co-stars on and off the set. As Kumail Nanjiani pointed out, onscreen chemistry is one thing, but having camaraderie off camera is just as important.

The Eternals star threw more praise on Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek for how they carried themselves on set. Kumail Nanjiani told People that both actresses were very professional while shooting the Marvel film. He noted they were always on time and knew their lines and marks. Nanjiani admitted to Jolie and Hayek wanting to create a family while being pragmatic about their work, but it was the family aspect that stuck out to the Silicon Valley alum.

Creating a community on the set made Kumail Nanjiani appreciate his time with Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek even more. The experience with the two stars left an impression on Nanjiani. The Lovebirds star said about the atmosphere the two screen legends created on Eternals:

At least Kumail Nanjiani had an amazing time interacting with Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek on set. Nanjiani’s words only echoed the same sentiments Jolie and Hayek have expressed about their time filming the Marvel film. The actor has been just as hyped for the film as Marvel fans have. Of course, moviegoers won’t have to wait much longer to see Kingo, Ajak and Thena in action, as Marvel’s Eternals arrives in theaters on November 5.

Marvel Studios fans are about to dive head first into a powerful wave of MCU programming that will expand the definition of the “Universe” that exists on screen. Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduces a new hero (Simu Liu) with a rich and fascinating destiny. And in November, a team that has been on our Earth for 7,000 years will emerge, with a purpose that connects to the genocidal actions of Thanos (Josh Brolin). If the Eternals have been on our planet for 7,000 years, as is stated in this new trailer, why then are they emerging from their self-imposed exile now? Well, the trailer finally explains that it was the restoration of the population that was snapped away that is now causing something ominous called “The Emergence.” The emergence of what? We’re not sure yet, but it doesn’t sound like it can be good for our planet. And the Eternals only have seven days to prevent it.

I’m thrilled that the stories arriving in the MCU in the wake of Avengers: Endgame are addressing the serious consequences of events like “returning half the world’s population all at once.” These are world-shaking events, and they shouldn’t be brushed away for the point of sequel storytelling. I also appreciate that, in this trailer, Kit Harington’s character questions why the Eternals haven’t stepped in to help during other devastating events. And there’s an explanation given.

Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is covering both film and television for the first time, is seriously ramping up the various directions that the studio can go in order to bring the comic books that have made up Marvel for decades. Even just on the Disney+ side of things, Loki introduced audiences to The TVA (and lord knows where that exists), as well as the Void at the end of Time. And now Eternals is about to expand on the existence of powerful beings who are on this planet to defeat Deviants, at the command of the Celestials.

It has taken almost the entire year for the massive effects needed to visualize the world of Eternals to look complete, and as impressive as is required. This trailer finally makes Chloe Zhao’s upcoming MCU drama look as vast and sweeping of a cosmic story as it is meant to be. The powers of the Eternals look more defined (those eye beams shooting out of Richard Madden’s Ikaris!!), and the threats of the Deviants look terrifying. Also, can we talk about Thena's sword? Because damn.

Beyond the effects, the final trailer for Chloe Zhao’s Eternals sells the beating heart that she is putting into the narrative. The team is emerging from its shadows, and defying its orders to largely observe when Deviants aren’t involved, to come to the defense of this planet and our civilization. Because, as Angelina Jolie puts it, “When you love something, you protect it.”

Salma Hayek has always taken a somewhat unconventional approach to her career. The actress slapped co-star Ryan Reynolds in the one place she was told not to slap him -- and it sounds like it’s a pretty funny story.

While she appeared as the brash and somewhat uneven Sofia Kincaid in the 2017 The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Salma Hayek took on a bigger role in the action-comedy sequel. Her character plays a much more central role to the film’s story, which sees her starring alongside Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson once again. That means she has more screen time, and more of a chance to get in on the action.

That’s exciting news for Hayek and her fans -- but it did pose a small problem during production. Salma Hayek recently revealed that while filming The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, she may have gotten a little overzealous when it came to some of her hand-to-hand scenes with Ryan Reynolds (via PopCulture.com):

Okay, so it sounds like Hayek may have done some real damage to Reynolds -- but it was more a product of getting caught up in the scene than any real intention to do harm. The end result of her enthusiasm for the role was probably worth it, too. While the movie itself has had lackluster reviews, fans have been on board for the latest installment, and Hayek has earned strong reviews for her performance in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.

Also, it doesn’t sound like her on-screen antics caused any long-lasting damage to her professional relationships with her co-stars. She gushed about Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds to PopCulture.com, insisting, “I love the guys; I love Sam and Ryan.” She even revealed that The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’s director, Patrick Hughes, encouraged the cast to improvise many of their scenes. So really, by improvising the finer details of her action scenes, she was just doing her job, right?

The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard topped the box office after it hit theaters on June 16, dethroning A Quiet Place II. Maybe the film’s success will be enough to greenlight a third chapter in the series -- and another chance for Hayek to have fun with (but hopefully not maim) her beloved co-stars.

On the Venn diagram of comedy sequels and action sequels, one of the key points of overlap is going bigger and harder. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard does just that, and fans have certainly noted that fact in their reactions. As you’ll see in our first tweet, the insanity is absolutely worth the ride in the end:

Yes, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is a movie so funny, it’s going to make you swear in disbelief when thinking about what it’s done. Amping up the comedy and throwing in some James Bond-style action is apparently the key to making fans sound like they’re improving dialogue with Samuel L. Jackson. Then again, the internet has used more colorful words on a regular basis, so that could just be the world talking. Still, it's led to this other creative use of profanity:

Bigger sometimes is better, or at the very least enough to please the fans. But there’s another upgrade that helped The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard catch people’s attention; as if putting Ryan Reynolds through the ringer wasn't enough. It's all thanks to one of the returning characters the film welcomed back into the fold, as Salma Hayek has gotten a lot of attention for her latest turn as the "Hitman's Wife" of the title.

Salma Hayek’s Upgraded Role Is Well Worth The Sequel

Even in her more supporting role in The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Salma Hayek’s Sofia Kincaid was a force of nature to behold. So naturally, when director Patrick Hughes thought of how he and his writers would want to up the ante, it was a natural decision to make Sofia a crucial part of the team. It’s a selling point that keeps on giving, as you’ll see below:

It makes for a simple logline when you think about it. “See Salma Hayek swearing her head off, in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.” That's plenty of tickets sold for a Friday night showing right there. It certainly seems to be the case for famed author John Scalzi, as he saw the benefit of that aspect. Though there was a bit of added incentive, as you'll see in the story he told about bringing his wife along for the ride:

So The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard has a harder and funnier approach to the franchise, and it also has Salma Hayek taking the world by storm. What else could this movie use to boost its profile? How about becoming a piece of Hollywood historical trivia? Yes, this movie actually accomplished something that the dream factory has been trying to do for some time by casting a pair of venerable actors in the same film for the first time.

Technically, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard Made An Interesting Bit Of History

How in the world have Morgan Freeman and Samuel L. Jackson never worked together before? It’s a question that’s now being asked quite often, as The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard has somehow corrected this error in cinema, and to great effect. Trying to wrap your head around it would inspire similar thoughts to the one you’re about to see below:

It truly is amazing how it took The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard to pair up such esteemed actors, especially when they use words like “motherfucker” so brilliantly And yes, Morgan Freeman has dabbled in Samuel L. Jackson’s preferred profanity. Which only causes people to question this occurrence even more, and leads one to believe that Freeman and Jackson should work together more often. Think about that as you read the next shocked reaction to this huge deal:

So The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’s checklist contains bigger laughs, Salma Hayek wrecking shop and Morgan Freeman finally sharing a scene with Samuel L. Jackson. The longer this list seems to go on, the more ridiculously fun it sounds. And apparently, it wouldn’t be complete without poking some fun at the ever expanding title scheme this franchise is going for.
