It's hard to believe it's been over a decade since Elizabeth Olsen made her debut as Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. By the time she was cast in the role for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Olsen was coming off her indie success in Martha Marcy May Marlene and was steadily moving into the mainstream space. Put simply Olsen is the perfect Wanda for the MCU. Interestingly enough, though, she was initially under the impression that she was auditioning for a totally different heroine.

During a panel at C2E2 in Chicago, Olsen revealed that her MCU journey was a bit unexpected. Not only did she think she was auditioning for a character other than Scarlet Witch, she thought she was actually being considered for a different Marvel franchise altogether. And let's just say the other franchise was a bit more cosmic. Olsen explained (via Popverse):

So Olsen seemingly believed was going out for Guardians of the Galaxy and, apparently, her brothers put the thought of Gamora, the alien adopted daughter of Thanos, in her head. It's honestly interesting to think about what Olsen's take on the green-skinned warrior would've been like.

That role, however, ultimately went to Zoe Saldaña, who also ended up joining the Avengers cast for Infinity War and Endgame. I personally can’t imagine anyone else in that part, as Saldaña played Gamora impeccably, capturing the rough exterior which was hiding a much more sensitive character. She also had great chemistry with Chris Pratt, who played her love interest, Peter Quill (a.k.a. Star-Lord) in the five films they did together.

Going off of this, I can’t imagine Scarlet Witch being played by anyone other than Elizabeth Olsen either. Scarlet Witch became one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, but that power was also held by someone deeply human with complex emotions. Olsen played the character not like a superhero, but as she would play any flawed character with a power struggle and complicated relationships. The witch blossomed even more WandaVision, and Wanda was one of the brightest spots in the MCU for me before her death at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Clearly, the Marvel casting directors made the right decisions when it came to casting both Olsen and Saldaña in the franchise, however. This whole situation also speaks to the secrecy that commonly surrounds the Marvel films and how actors don’t even know what characters they are auditioning for when they are considered for a Marvel project. I'd say that Olsen's meeting ended up changing the course of her career, as she'll likely be synonymous with the Scarlet Witch for years to come.

So even though she could pop up in Vision Quest and/or Avengers: Doomsday (or even Secret Wars), Olsen's career seems to be more populated with non-MCU projects than it has in years past. In the past ten years or so, she's taken on roles in films like Wind River and The Assessment, as well as heading up the TV shows Sorry for Your Loss and Love & Death. She has around that same number projects currently making progress in some form across both film and TV. As such, it does seem like filling out her non-Marvel career with interesting new projects has gotten easier over time.

Personally, as much as I do love her within dramatic roles, I'd love to see Elizabeth Olsen's sense of humor on display more often. Though I can't exactly argue with her take on why comedy isn't such a hot commodity anymore in Hollywood. As she put it:

Picture Olsen returning in a future film or an upcoming Disney+ project, unraveling emotionally as reality bends around her, and finally delivering those three words. It would be an instant all-timer—one of the franchise’s defining scenes. But, realistically, it wouldn’t track for Wanda to immediately wipe out mutants just as the MCU is finally introducing them. So, if Marvel ever plans to pull that trigger, it may be a few years (and a few major X-Men rollouts) down the line.

In a fit of rage and power she says "no more mutants", resulting in almost all of them being stripped of their abilities. In the end the mutant population of the planet goes from millions to hundreds, with a number of our beloved characters losing their skills such as Charles Xavier.

That's the short end of this story, which is complicated and features multiple universes. Elizabeth Olsen previously expressed interest in bringing this specific comic plot to life, and fans thought WandaVision might adapt House of M.

Exactly when we'll see Olsen back as The Scarlet Witch on the big screen is a total mystery at the time of writing this story. While she reprised her role by voicing Wanda in Marvel Zombies, the actress' name wasn't included in the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement. At the center of this gory tale is Kamala Khan, who attempts to launch a transmitter into space in order to reach the Nova Corps and get help with the apocalypse. In an unfortunate twist, though, it’s revealed that the Corps not only knows about the outbreak but has actually been quarantining the Earth so no one leaves. After their spaceship is shot down by the intergalactic officers, Kamala and her surviving allies – like Shang-Chi, Katy and Valkyrie – meet up with the mystics of Kamar-Taj, who’ve aligned with Spider-Man and Ant-Man.

Both parties eventually team up to take down Wanda Maximoff (a.k.a The Queen of the Dead), who wants to use Kamala’s powers for her own purposes. Maximoff also wants to drain Bruce Banner/The Hulk, who has become a cypher since absorbing the energy of the Infinity Stones. (Those cosmic objects were destroyed when Black Panther sacrificed himself to kill a zombie-fied Thanos). The team takes on Wanda and her horde, and the casualties are massive, with Kamala watching as her friends begin to die one by one.

Kamala is ultimately enticed by Wanda – who also steals Banner’s powers – to combine their abilities. After that, Kamala wakes up in a seemingly perfect world where her family is alive as are her friends, Kate Bishop and Riri Williams. However, Kamala begins having flashes of incoming zombies, with Riri (who seemingly survived that attack in the first episode) fighting off them off. Williams also yells to the stunned Kamala that the ideal reality she’s seeing isn’t real.

There’s One Thing That Should Be Done If Marvel Zombies Returns For Season 2

It’s far from a certainty that another season of Marvel Zombies will join the lineup of upcoming Marvel shows. However, if it does happen, I have just one request – I want to see how the other half lives. In other words, I want a good look at what’s happening outside the infected Earth and get a sense of what others across the galaxy feel about what’s gone down. I’d even love the show to backtrack a bit to explain how the Nova Corps decided to launch the quarantine.

Maybe it’s because I’m an optimist, but I’d like to think there are some people within and outside the Nova Corps who don’t agree with the Earth being closed off and the survivors being left to fend for themselves. Perhaps someone like Rhomann Dey disagreed and is still making efforts to help the people of Earth.

Predicting the odds of more adventures set in this zombie-infested timeline is challenging, especially since Marvel isn’t churning out TV shows rapidly as it was several years ago. Still, it’s interesting that showrunner Bryan Andrews and co. to go with such an open-ended finale. I’d imagine that any further installments will come down to viewership.

We’ll just have to wait and see if Marvel Zombies returns, resolves the cliffhanger and provides the details I’m hoping for. In the meantime, stream the existing four episodes using a Disney+ subscription.

Since then, we have seen nothing of her in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Agatha All Along seemed to confirm that she was truly dead. Although, based on everything that Elizabeth Olsen has said, we shouldn’t be expecting to see her back in the upcoming Avengers movies. While she may be trying to prevent spoiling a return, she's been pretty straightforward that she isn't currently under contract to Marvel. Taking her at face value, if that's the case, then evidently we won't be seeing Wanda again anytime soon.

Of course, Marvel Studios is being somewhat open that Avengers: Secret Wars will be acting as a sort of soft reboot for the MCU. So certain characters who have died could return, and we’re expecting some to be recast. As such, even if we don’t see Elizabeth Olsen before this phase of the MCU ends, we might still see her in the future.

It’s also possible, maybe even likely, that while the actress may have moved on, Wanda will be back. We could see a recast Scarlett Witch in the franchise. Considering that Matt Shakman specifically says “Wanda” never dies, this could be one way for the character to return, with or without her existing MCU backstory.

It certainly does seem likely that we will see Scarlet Witch again, it’s just a question of when and how. Fans of the character will ultimately be happy either way. Anybody who wants to see Elizabeth Olsen’s particular Scarlet Witch return, however, might be a bit more disappointed.

What happened to Scarlet Witch? The ending of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness left that ambiguous. Because although Wanda Maximoff was shown inside the collapsing Mount Wundagore as she was destroying all copies of the Darkhold in the multiverse, a common rule trope in superhero storytelling is if a body isn’t seen, they’re not dead. In fact, a Marvel comic book released in February seemingly indicated that Elizabeth Olsen’s character was still alive. However, that no longer appears to be the case, leaving me wondering what this means for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, two of the highly-anticipated upcoming Marvel movies.

In case you missed it, TVA #3 saw Gwen Stacy, a.k.a. Ghost-Spider, discovering an area of the Time Variance Authority called the Department of Deferment. In there, she came across a static tube containing what looks like the MCU’s Scarlet Witch, as opposed to the version of Wanda from the main Marvel Comics continuity. Well, apparently that’s only sort of true, because according to TVA #5 (via ScreenRant), the Wanda in that tube isn’t the same one we saw in the Doctor Strange sequel, but rather a variant of her.

After freeing this Scarlet Witch from her confinement, Gwen learns from the Fear Lord known as Nightmare that the TVA found a timeline where Wanda didn’t die in Mount Wundagore and took her captive. That one line of dialogue indicates that that Wanda we followed along in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness perished when she wiped out the Darkhold across all realities. Otherwise, why wouldn’t Nightmare have just snatched her up? Also, Nightmare’s knowledge about what happened at Wundagore means he can visit the MCU, so maybe that’s how we could see him take part in Doctor Strange 3, if that possibility is on the table.

On first glance, this reveal from the TVA miniseries may appear to put the kibosh on Elizabeth Olsen ever reprising Wanda Maximoff again, but let’s not get hasty. For one thing, maybe another Scarlet Witch variant could be selected to take her place in the story that will unfold in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Or, and I’m hoping this is what happens, Wanda could simply be resurrected during Doomsday, either by Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom or some other force.

I just find it hard to believe that we’d never see Elizabeth Olsen play Wanda again. Remember, last November, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said that “we are excited to find out when and how Scarlet Witch can return.” That’s not something one would say about a character who’s been shelved and had her final fate clarified in a comic book. And yes, Olsen has also said she’s not in the next two Avengers movies, but quite frankly, I don’t believe her.

However, for those of you who’ve been hoping to see Wanda Maximoff return in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday and 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, Olsen’s shared an update that casts doubt on her participation in these upcoming Marvel movies. That said, I’m not giving up hope we’ll see her in them.

What Elizabeth Olsen Said About The Next Two Avengers Movies

Elizabeth Olsen can currently be seen in The Assessment, which opened this past weekend on the 2025 movies schedule. She discussed her work on the feature and other topics in an interview with THR, including how she was working on the Sam Esmail-directed movie Panic Carefully in London, England. When the interviewer asked if she’d be extended her stay to reunite with directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who are about to start shooting Doomsday and Secret Wars back-to-back, she answered:

Now, on the surface, that doesn’t bode well. In fact, THR’s X post sharing the interview with Olsen says that “Elizabeth Olsen confirms she will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars,” and other outlets have run with similar headlines. And to be sure, it would be disappointing if Scarlet Witch wasn’t present in either movie given the uncertainty surrounding the character following the Doctor Strange sequel. But I’m not so sure that’s what’s happening here.

Why I Don’t Think Elizabeth Olsen’s Update Is As Bad As It Sounds

Let’s chew on this first: if the Doomsday and Secret Wars shoot is anything like when Infinity War and Endgame were made back-to-back, then the Russos are looking at roughly a year of filming, maybe longer. So just because Elizabeth Olsen isn’t going to be around at the start of this shoot doesn’t necessarily mean she won’t be part of it at all. Maybe she just won’t be needed for a few months. Or maybe she will indeed not appear in Doomsday, but will return to London once cameras start rolling on Secret Wars scenes.

I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention that last October, it was rumored that Wanda will share a lot of screen time with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in the next two Avengers movies, and may even end up being his lover. Take that claim with a grain of salt for now, though it’s let to fans theorizing that Doom needs Wanda’s reality-warping magic to make his own universe. The point being, until it’s outright said by the Russos, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige or someone else high up at Marvel that Elizabeth Olsen won’t be in Doomsday and/or Secret Wars, then I’m holding onto hope.

Speaking of Feige, he said a few weeks after the conclusion of Agatha All Along that he and the other Marvel brass are “excited to find out when and how Scarlet Witch can return.” So I think we can reasonably assume that we’re not done seeing Elizabeth Olsen in the MCU again, regardless of how it ends up happening. Until then, you can use your Disney+ subscription to stream her previous appearances in this franchise.

While speaking with The Playlist, the actress revealed that her character's story wasn't affected by reshoots, as she wasn't available to film them. In her words:

Interesting. So while quite a bit could have been changed thanks to reshoots, it sounds like Wanda's story in Doctor Strange 2 was always set in the stone. That included making The Scarlet Witch a murderous villain, as well as her "sacrifice" at the end of the sequel's main narrative. Hopefully Kevin Feige and company offer fans some information about when we might see her return to the shared universe.

After WandaVision's series finale, it seemed like Olsen's signature Avenger was feeling contrite over the hex she placed on the town of Westview. But the Darkhold seemingly corrupted her, and she was willing to kill to be reunited with her sons. In the same interview, the His Three Daughters actress spoke about that pivot, saying:

While some fans took umbrage with this choice for the character, you can't deny that Elizabeth Olsen once again crushed it playing Wanda. She was equal parts terrifying and tragic throughout Doctor Strange 2, and was able to atone for her actions by destroying the Darkhold throughout the multiverse. Still, I'm hoping this won't be the last we'll see of The Scarlet Witch.

Marvel's tight security keeps things on lock, so there are countless questions about what's coming down the line. Fans are hoping to see lots of their favorite characters throughout Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, and there are a number of rumors swirling about how Wanda might factor into the multiversal story of The Russo Brothers' next two blockbusters.

Unfortunately, fans are likely going to have to try and stay patient as development on the upcoming Avengers movies comes together. After all, Doomsday isn't even on the 2025 movie release list. All I know is Wanda better be coming back, one way or another.

Rumors about Doctor Doom and Scarlet Witch have been flying around since October, including reports that she might actually be the villain's lover in the next Avengers movies. This would certainly give her reason to help him create a new universe, although fans might have a hard time seeing her with anyone but Vision at this point. And while fans not-so-patiently wait for concrete information from Kevin Feige and the rest of the powers that be at Marvel, these types of theories and rumors are likely going to continue circulating online.

While Wanda has always been popular in the MCU, she became on of the most beloved characters in the entire universe thanks to the release of WandaVision. The Disney+ series instantly became a viral sensation, one that fans theorized about while immediately watching each new episode. And since then, there's been a non-stop call for more of the Scarlet Witch from the fans.

Unfortunately, her redemption during WandaVision's finale was short lived, as she was the primary antagonist of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While she atoned in the movie's final moments, she spent most of its runtime as a cold-blooded killer who would do anything to reunite with her sons.

The next two Avengers movies aren't on the 2025 movie release list, so fans will likely have to continue waiting for official news from the studio. Hopefully we get a Wanda Maximoff update sooner rather than later.

Ever since the ending of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness unfolded the way it did back in 2022, it’s been unclear where things stand with Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch. When we left off with Wanda in the 28th of the Marvel movies in order, she’d seemingly perished when Mount Wundagore fell around her as she was destroying all the Marvel multiverse’s copies of the Darkhold. And yet, there have been rumblings for years now that we haven’t seen the last of her, and it looks as though a Marvel comic may have confirmed she is indeed alive, albeit incapacitated.

After getting their time to shine in Loki and Deadpool & Wolverine, the Time Variance Authority (TVA), which was introduced to the comics in 1986, is now the subject of a five-issue limited series written by Katharyn Blair and illustrated by Pere Perez. The series chronicles a phenomenon called “The Madness” that’s affecting the entire multiverse, and events from the aforementioned Disney+ subscription-exclusive TV show and 2024 movie have both been referenced. Additionally, Mobius and Sylvie, both from Loki, have appeared, and it’s strongly implied that they’re the MCU versions rather than ones

Here’s where things get especially interesting. In TVA #3 (via ComicBookMovie), Gwen Stacy, a.k.a. Ghost-Spider, is shown walking through a mysterious area of the title organization called the “Department of Deferment.” There, she runs into what looks like Scarlet Witch, who’s being kept in some kind of stasis tube. More importantly, this looks to be the MCU’s Scarlet Witch, as she’s wearing the same costume from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and even has the blackened fingers from having handled the Darkhold.

The general rule of thumb when it comes to superhero media, particularly Marvel and DC stories, is that if you don’t see a body, then a character isn’t dead. If the Scarlet Witch from TVA is in fact the same one we’ve been following in the MCU since 2014 (when she and Quicksilver cameoed in Captain America: The Winter Soldier), then evidently the TVA snatched her up before she was crushed to death and decided to keep her sedated. That would explain why no one knew her whereabouts during Agatha All Along, as well as nicely tee up her return in Avengers: Doomsday.

Honestly, even if the Scarlet Witch we see in the TVA comic book series isn’t Elizabeth Olsen’s version, it’s still probably safe to assume that the latter will be back in the upcoming Marvel movie. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment, said back in November that “we are excited to find out when and how Scarlet Witch can return.” That doesn’t sound like something one would say about a character who’s legitimately dead, and what better time to bring her back than in the fifth Avengers movie?

Hopefully the final two issues of TVA will clear this Scarlet Witch matter up. Otherwise, we’ll just have to wait until Avengers: Doomsday’s release on May 1, 2026 to learn if she’s back in play.

Agatha All Along offers a distinct story with more than enough charm to stand on its own. Yet it’s tough to forget the fact that the show is a spinoff of the acclaimed Marvel Cinematic Universe-set series WandaVision. That link was clear early on in the 2024 TV schedule entry, as Wanda Maximoff’s body appeared in the pilot. Most probably won’t be surprised to hear that Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda, wasn’t actually on set. Still, I was shook when the hair and makeup department heads told CinemaBlend how they made the double look like Olsen.

Cindy Welles and Vasilios Tanis – who headed Agatha’s hair and makeup teams, respectively – were kind enough to speak with me about their work. A question I had going into our chat was whether or not Wanda’s body was portrayed by a real, living actor or whether a dummy of sorts was used. Tanis and Welles confirmed that a trained professional, who had to stay “very still,” was used for that Agnes of Westview segment. That information alone was fascinating to me, but I was also intrigued by Welles’ comments about styling the hair:

On the surface, these may sound like minor details, yet they’re actually quite important in regard to maintaining continuity. Wanda’s hair is quite distinct and, even if viewers only see that curl in the morgue, it still has to appear as her hair would otherwise. As someone who tends to (over) analyze smaller elements, I certainly appreciate Cindy Welles and her team’s commitment to detail. That commitment also extends to the efforts of the team led by Vasilios Tanis, who talked more about the touches that were added to the body double:

I personally didn’t find it hard to buy into the idea that the body that was discovered by Agnes and her team of fellow law enforcement officers. They did indeed find someone with Elizabeth Olsen’s physicality, and kudos to that actor for effectively staying still. I’ll tell you who hasn’t been staying still, though – fans who want to see Wanda Maximoff return!

There’s been a lot of chatter as of late regarding the fate of Ms. Maximoff, who was seemingly killed at the end of 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Despite the fact that her body seemingly appears on Agatha All Along, the show doesn’t provide a definitive answer on the former Avenger’s mortality. As of late, there have even been rumors of a solo film involving the heroine. One person who’s down for that movie is Jac Schaeffer, who created WandaVision and its spinoff. Nothing has been confirmed just yet, though Kevin Feige’s latest Scarlet Witch comments suggest that he and his collaborators have some interest in bringing the character back at some point.

Fans can only hope that Wanda truly returns in upcoming Marvel movies or TV shows. For right now, though, let’s just marvel (no pun intended) at the incredible work that Cindy Welles, Vasilios Tanis and their co-stars did with the Agatha Harkness-centric series. You certainly have to be on your toes when working on an MCU production, and I have no problem saying that these two industry pros, in collaboration with their colleagues, knocked it out of the park.

The most recent series that hit the small screen was Agatha All Along, which featured plenty of references and connections to Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch. And Kevin Feige's latest comments about Wanda Maximoff have me feeling so relieved as a fan.

Moviegoers who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order know that certain characters have risen up as fan favorites. Chief among them is Olsen's Scarlet Witch, who fans are hoping to see appear in upcoming Marvel movies despite the character's apparent death during Doctor Strange 2's ending. During an interview with the outlet Omelette at D23 Brazil (via ComicBook) Feige teased what might be coming with Wanda, offering:

Well, I'm feeling relieved. While he didn't give anything away, it sounds like the powers that be at Marvel are interested in continuing Wanda's story at some point in the future. Does that mean she didn't actually die in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? Only time will tell.

Feige specifically mentioned Agatha All Along, which offered a ton of ties to the Scarlet Witch throughout its season. The series made her fate unclear, with Agatha giving conflicting stories about whether or not Wanda was still alive. Add in her son Billy having a role and the Agatha finale ending with him trying to find his brother Tommy, and it feels like the perfect time to bring Wanda back.

While she showed remorse during WandaVision's series finale, the Scarlet Witch came back for Doctor Strange 2 after her mind was corrupted by the Darkhold. She went on a murder spree in hopes of reuniting with Tommy and Billy in the multiverse, before seemingly sacrificing herself to ensure the Book of the Damned was destroyed for once and all.

But Agatha All Along revealed that Wanda never needed to use America Chavez's powers to reunite with her kids. Billy was resurrected after she closed the hex, jumping into the body of a nearby boy who died in a car crash. Unfortunately, Lilia's sigil prevented anyone from identifying the resurrected boy, who would be nicknamed "Teen" throughout most of the series. I can only imagine how Wanda will feel that she traveled through the multiverse when her son was actually so close by.

The next Marvel movie hitting theaters is Captain America: Brave New World on February 14th. For now, check the 2025 movie release dates.

It’d be difficult to find a current Marvel character more popular in online circles than Wanda Maximoff. The Scarlet Witch (played to perfection by Elizabeth Olsen) has proven herself to be one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And even though she eventually broke bad in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the reasoning for this turn was rooted in a reason that many of us were able to understand, as she was hellbent on finding and reuniting with her twins, Billy and Tommy.

Those who have been following along with Agatha All Along, available with a Disney+ subscription, now know that Teen – the character played by Joe Locke – is actually a reincarnated Billy Maximoff, and will go on to play Wiccan. Billy took to The Witches’ Road in order to find his missing twin, Tommy. But during an exclusive conversation with Locke on behalf of Agatha All Along Episode 6, we spoke about the current state of Wanda, his deceased mom. For those keeping track at home, Wanda sacrificed herself at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in an effort to destroy all existing copies of the Darkhold. Well, the copies that we KNOW exist.

Joe Locke had thoughts about Wanda’s fate, both from his opinion, and the opinion of the character that he plays. He told CinemaBlend:

Joe Locke was referring to a line in Agatha All Along Episode 6, where Agatha tells Billy that every witch with a beating heart can hear him now. That instantly made me think of the believed-to-be-dead Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen)... because I don’t believe that she is actually dead. For starters, there are still too many important Wanda stories that can be told in upcoming Marvel movies, particularly when the MCU refocuses on mutants. But also, there have been persistent rumors regarding a solo Scarlet Witch movie, and I’m willing to bet that is in the cards for Olsen. We just need Kevin Feige to announce it from the stage of Hall H, or possibly at D23.

In the meantime, we have the conclusion of Agatha All Along playing out in DIsney+, where I think we will meet teenage Tommy, and MAYBE get the return of Wanda. Then, we have a few months to wait for Marvel to return to the movies, when Anthony Mackie picks up the shield for Captain America: Brave New World, arriving everywhere in February 2025.

One of the biggest mysteries of the 2024 TV season has finally been addressed, with Joe Locke’s Teen dropping his Agatha All Along facade to reveal he’s actually the Scarlet Witch’s magical son Billy. (Not exactly the best-kept secret, considering toy spoilers.) Since it happened in the middle of the season, rather than near the finale, so much story is yet to play out, and Marvel dropped a new promo filled with new and unseen footage that taps into some of those details.

Now let's go through some of the biggest reveals therein, squealing and skipping all the way down.

Billy's Full Name Confirmed, No Kap(lan)

While Episode 5's final moments did indeed confirm Teen to be a magical being with a crown that absolute resembles that of Scarlet Witch, the fact that his name wasn't fully stated left some room for debate on whether the show would lean into giving him the same last name as Wanda, or if they would go with the Kaplan surname from the comics.

But the new trailer tackles that question immediately (at least assuming there aren't further twists to come), with Agatha saying:

Now, just because Agatha knows him to be Wanda Maximoff's son doesn't fully mean Agatha All Along or other connected upcoming Marvel shows will bypass the Kaplan family's narrative ties altogether. But it'll be interesting to see if and how showrunner Jac Schaeffer & Co. lay out those breadcrumbs., especially when considering the following reveal.

Billy And His "Mom" Were Involved In The Car Collision

As seen in the video, Billy (presumably) is riding in a car outside of the Westview Hex, which he can see clearly through the backseat window. And then for some currently unknown reason, the vehicle careens off of the road and slams into a tree, with Billy calling out "Mom!" But who would have been the Mom that he's calling to?

Don't get me wrong, Agatha All Along telegraphed this point fairly explicitly within the series premiere, with Teen being hit by Mrs. Hart's car in Agatha's crime-drama hallucination, combined with other possible clues such as a ripped-up sweater, injuries from glass shards (like a car window) and more. So it's not so shocking to learn that he was in a wreck.

But it couldn't have been Wanda driving the car if the Hex was already in place, and it doesn't seem like Agatha could have been driving that car outside of Westview either. So could this be where the Kaplan family comes into play? Albeit quite tragically, with Mrs. Kaplan and her son dying in the process, with I suppose only one of them being resurrected by magic.

We'll Meet Another Witch With Purple Powers

This last bit seems like kind of a footnote compared to all the exciting reveals about Joe Locke's Billy, but a few unfamiliar faces pop up in Agatha All Along's midseason trailer, and one of them shows off some magical skills that look all too similiar to those of Kathryn Hahn's morally wavering witch.

Specifically, we see the mystery character pictured above, looking very freaked out while blasting out purple magic waves that I have to assume are identical to Agatha's, though I'm willing to be wrong if there are specific differences in the hue and/or shading. In any case, I believe this is the first time we've seen another witch with purple magic in the MCU. (The other unfamiliar character's magic isn't directly shown, but has a brighter glow closer to orange or yellow.)

When the Salem Seven attempted to kill Agatha at the stake in the WandaVision flashback, they all shared the same blue-tinted magic, so I wonder if this woman is where Agatha's purple powers came from in the first place. Which certainly doesn't bode well for her survival, but it's something I hadn't fully considered before.

Whether or not these details come up in the sixth episode or beyond, I'll be thinking about them while waiting for Agatha All Along's season to continue every Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. for fans with Disney+ subscriptions.

And pairing her with Doctor Doom would be thrilling.

Of course, some fans might not be happy if this rumored character pairing actually comes to fruition. Namely because it's hard to imagine Wanda having a romantic connection with anyone but Paul Bettany's Vision. That relationship was key to projects like Avengers: Infinity War and WandaVision, so if/how she ends up being Doctor Doom's lover should be interesting.

Fan rumbling about Wanda's return have gotten louder lately thanks to the popularity of Agatha All Along on Disney+. The new series is a direct sequel to WandaVision, and The Scarlet Witch's name has been name dropped a number of times throughout the season so far. And the connection to Elizabeth Olsen's character has gotten even stronger after Teen's big reveal in the most recent episode.

For her part, Olsen has gotten real about her time in the MCU, and expressed interest in playing Wanda Maximoff again in the future. This gave extra hope to fans who were hoping that the Scarlet With was still alive. Hopefully Kevin Feige and company confirm her return sooner rather than later... whether it's in Avengers: Doomsday or another project. There were previously rumor that a Scarlet Witch movie was in development at Marvel.

Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff has to be one of the most complicated characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as the strongest. Over the course of a decade, we’ve seen Maximoff at her best and worst. We’ve also seen her realize her inner desires and fully come into her powers while simultaneously garnering a very devoted fanbase. As a result, Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the character, has become a household name and face, and she recently recalled the sweet moment she realized her character was a big deal.

For Marvel audiences, Scarlet Witch has been a fan favorite ever since her MCU debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron (excluding The Winter Soldier post credit scene). At that time, she so easily incapacitated Earth's Mightiest Heroes with her mind games. But, apparently, this was not evident to the actress herself. In an interview with THR, Elizabeth Olsen revealed that she understood her character's serious pop culture reach during a personal outing:

First of all, I would like to know if this drag queen is still doing Scarlet Witch drag and if so, where and when can I attend. One can certainly understand why he Love & Death actress would feel "proud" in that moment, and I can't even imagine the surreal nature of seeing the impact of a fictional character I played in real time. Furthermore, it's great to receive further confirmation of the true feelings towards her witchy character, given her past statements.

Elizabeth Olsen has admitted to having had conflicted feelings over taking this very important role in the MCU. She admitted that it limited her roles outside of the superhero franchise. However, this clearly does not reduce her pride in playing the complex sorceress. Many Marvel characters have tortured backstories, but Wanda Maximoff’s history is especially traumatic, causing her to forever be an unpredictable wild card in the cinematic universe.

With the release of Agatha All Along amid the 2024 TV schedule, the fate of the His Three Daughters star's character is once again being discussed. Though Scarlet Witch seemingly died at the end of Multiverse of Madness, her actions (like destroying all versions of the Darkhold) continue to have strong influences on storylines. Besides, we never saw a body at the end of Strange 2, which absolutely leaves Wanda’s story open-ended.

Given her name is being thrown around in the first few episodes of the fan-pleasing Agatha All Along, one would hope her story is not done. And, thankfully, it seems Elizabeth Olsen feels the same. Rumors of a Scarlet Witch solo movie have been making the rounds as of late without solid confirmation from Marvel. Still, even the sheer notion of such a film happening is enough for me to be excited. About a year ago, Elizabeth Olsen admitted to knowing what lies ahead and said no contract had been signed for additional movies. But a lot can happen in a year! Regardless of what happens, though, I just love that Olsen has such an appreciation for her character and was able to see it first hand during that drag brunch.

2024 marks 10 years since Elizabeth Olsen debuted as Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to the Captain America: The Winter Soldier end-credits scene. Her full-fledged introduction in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the 11th of the Marvel movies in order, followed in 2015, and as of this writing, Olsen has eight appearances as the character under her belt, including the Disney+ subscription-exclusive shows WandaVision and What If… ?. Now it’s rumored that a Scarlet Witch movie is being added to the slate of upcoming Marvel movies, and Agatha All Along creator Jac Schaeffer has shared her honest thoughts on this topic.

As WandaVision’s showrunner, Schaeffer oversaw one of the most consequential chapters of Wanda’s MCU arc yet, with the events of that series laying the groundwork for the character’s appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So one wouldn’t be faulted for thinking she’d be in the know about if this Scarlet Witch movie is the real deal or not, but when Variety asked her when the project will begin shooting at the Agatha All Along world premiere, she answered:

Per the rumor that emerged less than a week ago, Schaeffer and her fellow WandaVision and Agatha All Along writher Megan McDonnell are penning this alleged Scarlet Witch movie, which is being lined up for a 2026 release. If this is true, Schaeffer isn’t telling, though she is certainly all for Wanda Maximoff getting the cinematic spotlight for herself. The writer’s lack of confirmation shouldn’t shock anyone considering how secretive Marvel Studios can be. Outside of the few instances when a major publication like Variety or The Hollywood Reporter shares word of a Marvel movie or TV show being developed, the company usually reserves such announcements for events like San Diego Comic-Con and D23.

Not to be deterred, interviewer Marc Malkin then asked Jac Schaeffer if she thinks the Scarlet Witch movie will happen, and she told him:

When we left off with Wanda at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, she’d seemingly perished when she destroyed Mount Wundagore, which in turn destroyed all the copies of the Darkhold across the Marvel multiverse. But remember, this is a superhero story we’re talking about. Unless a body is shown (even then it’s not a guarantee), it’s safe to assume that a character isn’t truly dead. Frankly, even if this Scarlet Witch movie hadn’t been rumored, I’m comfortable assuming that she’ll be back for Avengers: Doomsday and/or Avengers: Secret Wars.

For now though, we can’t say for certain if Wanda Maximoff will get her own movie, but if the project is ever made official, we’ll let you know. Meanwhile, the first two episodes of Agatha All Along will premiere tomorrow at 6 pm PT, with the next five episodes being released weekly on the 2024 TV schedule, and the last two episodes arriving on October 30.

Fans who have spent years watching the Marvel movies in order know that the studio is a well-oiled machine, one that's constantly releasing new content in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. But some characters are more popular than others, like fan favorite Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen. There's reports that the Scarlet Witch is finally getting a solo movie, and as a hardcore fan I'm so relieved.

WandaVision was a wild success on Disney+, and since then fans have been eager to see more of the Scarlet Witch in upcoming Marvel movies. But when the character seemingly perished at the end of Doctor Strange 2, fans like myself were worried that perhaps Olsen had reached the end of her journey as the character was done. Now there's new hope, as a report by Production Weekly claims that a Scarlet Witch movie is aiming for a 2026 release, and will be written by WandaVision and Agatha All Along scribes Jac Schaeffer and Megan McDonnell.

This hasn't been confirmed by Kevin Feige and Marvel yet, so we should probably take this with a grain of salt for the time being. Still, Production Weekly is generally known for being an accurate depiction of studio's plans. And since Wanda is so popular among fans, it seems logical for the MCU to continue her story.

This news might be surprising, as Elizabeth Olsen recently reflected on the quality of her MCU appearances, and hasn't mentioned plans to get her own solo movie. Although given how tight Marvel security is, perhaps she's just doing her job and keeping cards close to the chest.

Some fans were unhappy with Wanda's story in Doctor Strange 2, where she became a full-fledged villain and ended up murdering countless heroes and sorcerers throughout its runtime. While the Darkhold's influence is seemingly to blame, this stood in stark juxtaposition to her sense of morality, as well as the remorse she expressed at the end of WandaVision. So having her actually perish while bringing down Mount Wundagore would have been a very disappointing ending for the beloved character.

The report about a possible Scarlet Witch movie comes after the original plans for Wanda in Doctor Strange 2 started circulating around Twitter. Because how beloved the character is, fans want to see justice for her, especially after her murderous plot line from Sam Raimi's blockbuster. So hopefully she does indeed get her solo flick and (perhaps more importantly) she'll return for future crossover events like The Avengers: Doomsday. The bottom line is I'm not ready to say goodbye to the chaos magic queen herself.

Fans know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is constantly growing, both in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. But those of us who have spent years watching watching the Marvel movies in order know that certain characters rise above as fan favorites. Chief among them is Wanda Maximoff/ Scarlet Witch, and Elizabeth Olsen just got real about how some of her Marvel projects are better than others. She's even quoted saying "When I started I was used well."

WandaVision was a pop culture moment, and helped to make Olsen's hero one of the most beloved heroes in the entire MCU. Despite Wanda's apparent death during the ending of Doctor Strange 2, fans are still holding out hope that she'll return in upcoming Marvel movies. During a recent interview with FM104 (via YouTube) the actress got honest about her tenure playing the Scarlet Witch. In her words:

There you have it. Without naming every project she's worked on in the MCU, she's described how its felt to see where her character has gone over the years. She seemingly enjoyed her role as an antagonist in Avengers: The Age of Ultron, before she eventually became a bonafide her and member of the team.

One can guess that Olsen wasn't quite as thrilled with her role in Civil War. Indeed, she had pretty limited material to work with in that blockbuster. She'd eventually return with a vengeance for Infinity War, but then was dusted throughout most of Endgame.

Some fans are still bothered by Wanda's story in Doctor Strange 2, where she became a murderous villain before seemingly killing herself. It's currently unclear if/when she'll return to the MCU, but some fans are hoping that'll occur in Avengers: Doomsday aka the next big crossover event. Later in the same interview, Elizabeth Olsen addressed possibly reprising her role yet again, offering:

Well, that's certainly hopeful. While there's no plans for Wanda's return just yet, at least Olsen would be down... depending on which story is going to be told. Hopefully a new deal is inked sooner rather than later, especially since Doomsday is currently expected to hit theaters in 2026.

Of course, there's a project that some fans are hoping might include a cameo by Wanda: the new Agatha: All Along series. Kathryn Hahn's title character was the villain of WandaVision, and her lack of powers was because they were drained by the Scarlet Witch herself. We'll just have to wait and see as each new episode airs.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has captured the hearts and minds of comic book fans and general movie lovers for well over a decade now. In that time, a number of franchise devotees have become well-versed in the mythos, analyzing every aspect of it. So it’s not surprising that when they have the rare opportunity to speak to one of the series’ stars, they ask appropriately nerdy questions. Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen, who’ve respectively played Loki and Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch for years now, are also faced with a lot of queries, even when they do work that’s not related to the MCU. It turns out there’s actually one Wanda and Loki-related question in particular that they receive quite often.

Don’t get it twisted, as two of the MCU’s most beloved stars receive a number of inquiries from admirers. (I myself once asked Tom Hiddleston for clarity regarding Loki’s journey following Season 2 of the character’s eponymous TV show.) However, it seems the most common question that Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen are always asked deals with what would happen if their two Marvel characters came to blows with each other. It honestly makes sense, since their characters are amongst the most powerful in the cinematic universe. When Hiddleston appeared alongside Olsen at a convention, he recalled the two of them receiving that prompt when they were doing press for a past films:

I’d imagine that the two may not have expected to hear that question during the junket for the 2015 Hank Williams biopic – or maybe they did. Regardless, both actors did respond to the question accordingly, it seems. In the convention interview clip, which was shared to YouTube, the Love & Death actress explained how she would respond, and the Night Manager star shared his two cents, too:

Elizabeth Olsen: I always said [Wanda].

Tom Hiddleston: Yeah, obviously.

Nevertheless, the humble Kong Skull: Island actor revealed that the constant question did make him think about who’d emerge victorious in a fight between Loki and Maximoff. Tom Hiddleston admitted that Wanda is incredibly powerful due to the powers she received from the mind stone. And, although Hiddleston mentioned the God of Mischief’s past victory, Elizabeth Olsen added that Wanda wiped out half a universe (in the comics). The actress did, however, also concede that Wanda has a difficult time controlling her powers emotionally.

As an MCU fan, I do find this question interesting, especially now, given Loki’s current position. The variant of the God of Mischief that appeared on his show is now the God of Stories, curating the various timelines across the multiverse. That definitely places the beloved character in a different category power-wise, and that would make a theoretical fight between him and Scarlet Witch even more interesting.

The chances of that happening now are probably slim, though. At this point, it seems that Tom Hiddleston has said goodbye to Loki, while Scarlet Witch appears to be dead. (And that latter fact seems even more concrete when paired with Elizabeth Olsen’s discouraging update on whether she’ll reprise her role.) But I suppose anything is possible in the MCU, especially if the multiverse is involved. In the meantime, until such a super-powered bout happens, I’d imagine that fans will continue to ask Olsen and Hiddleston for their thoughts, whether they’re promoting a Marvel production together or not.

As the holiday season approaches, many of us begin searching for the best gifts related to Spider-Man from Marvel or great items involving DC’s Batman for the comic book fan in their lives in time for Christmas. However, what if I told you that one of those superheroes is actually more likely to celebrate Hanukkah?

To anybody familiar with the character of Moon Knight before his Disney+ Marvel TV show premiered, it probably came as no surprise that the godly vigilante was Jewish. But there are many more famous characters from both the Marvel Comics multiverse and the DC Comics multiverse whom you know may not have realized also come from the same heritage. Let’s shine a spotlight on some of our favorite Jewish superheroes — starting with, perhaps, the most surprising name on our list.

Spider-Man

While his heritage and religious beliefs have never been explicitly mentioned in Marvel Comics, Spider-Man is, perhaps, the publisher’s most famous Jewish superhero, if not the most famous Jewish superhero of all time. Hints to this fact — as brought to light by ScreenRant — include Peter Parker’s residence in Queens’ Forest Hills (a neighborhood with a prominent Jewish population) and heated confrontation with an anti-Semitic Baron Zemo in Non-Stop Spider-Man #4. Plus, in one of the best Spider-Man movies, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson) reflects Jewish tradition by stepping on glass during his wedding, and half-Jewish former Spidey actor Andrew Garfield cited Peter’s Judaism as a definitive characteristic during a 2014 Time Out interview.

Batwoman

Two of Kate Kane's most definitive character traits from the comics are that she is openly gay and openly identifies as Jewish. Both of these aspects of the Gotham City vigilante were honored on Batwoman when the Arrowverse-canon DC series was led by Ruby Rose in the role before she was replaced with Javicia Leslie as Kane’s successor to the cowl, Ryan Wilder. Taking this fact about her lineage into account, that would mean that Kane’s cousin, Bruce Wayne — who also moonlights the streets Gotham to fight crime as Batman — is half-Jewish himself, which would also reflect the heritage of both of his creators, Bill Finger and Bob Kane.

Scarlet Witch

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe probably just know Wanda Maximoff (portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen in the franchise) as a native of the fictional country of Sokovia. Those who follow the anti-heroic (and sometimes just plain villainous, such as in the House of M crossover event) magic-wielder’s story from the comics should know that she and her lightning-fast brother, Pietro “Quicksilver” Maximoff, are of Romani and Jewish heritage, as ScreenRant recalls. This makes sense when you remember who is the twin mutants’ biological father… whom we will talk about later.

The Thing

More than four decades after he was first introduced in Marvel Comics, Ben Grimm’s Judaism was explicitly made canon in a 2002 issue of Fantastic Four called “Remembrance of Things Past,” in which the former pilot visits his old neighborhood, prompting childhood memories of his heritage. In a 2006 edition of The Thing’s solo title called “Last Hand” — which takes place 13 years after Ben’s transformation into a rock-skinned hero — he decides to hold a second Bar Mitzvah ceremony for himself to signify his “second life” as a superhero. Maybe this aspect of the character will play some sort of role in the MCU’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie, depending on who plays him, of course.

Kitty Pryde

Another one of the most highly-anticipated upcoming Marvel movies is the MCU’s X-Men reboot, which hopefully includes Katherine “Kitty” Pryde, who is otherwise known as Shadowcat for her ability to phase through solid matter. One major aspect about the fan-favorite character that has gone unmentioned in previous X-Men movies (in which she was played by Elliot Page) is her Ashkenazi Jewish-American identity. She has proudly expressed this part of herself in the comics by wearing a Star of David around her neck.

Atom Smasher

Albert Rothstein — better known as Atom Smasher — is among the few openly Jewish characters in the DC Universe. In fact, the incredible shrinking (and growing) superhero — and godson of Al Pratt, the Golden Age Atom — is noted for his devout practicing which, at one point, led him to refuse a relationship with a non-Jewish fellow Justice Leaguer named Fire. However, his heritage was not mentioned when the character made his cinematic debut in Black Adam, as played by Noah Centineo.

Polaris

Another X-Men character noted for being Jewish in Marvel Comics is Polaris, who has only been adapted for live-action media on Fox’s short-lived TV show, The Gifted, so far. Much like her mutant ability to control magnetism, Lorna Dane’s Jewish heritage comes from her father…

Magneto

Erik Lehnsherr — better known as Magneto for his mutant ability to manipulate metallic substances — was previously known as Max Eisenhart when he and his family suffered persecution for their Jewish identities during the Holocaust, as CBR recalls. The off-and-on Marvel villain is only X-Men character whose cultural upbringing and origins in Nazi-occupied Poland have been explored in the movies — namely at the beginning of both the original from 2000 and 2011’s X-Men: First Class.

Harley Quinn

Much like the late Arleen Sorkin, who voiced her when she debuted on Batman: The Animated Series, Harley Quinn is Jewish — a fact that may come as a surprise to even some of the biggest fans of the criminal psychologist-turned-criminal. According to an article on DC.com, the Gothamite’s heritage was hinted at in one of her first comic book appearances and later made official when she is visiting her interfaith family in Brooklyn during the holidays in 2010’s Gotham City Sirens #7. While this was never addressed in any of Academy Award nominee Margot Robbie’s portrayals, there is a chance that Lady Gaga’s iteration in Joker: Folie A Deux and another version from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s upcoming DC movies slate could. 

Considering how some of the most iconic creators in comic book history were raised Jewish — including Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and the aformentioned Bill Finger — it only makes sense that some of the most iconic characters from both DC and Marvel would reflect that culture as well.

Lots of people who love the Marvel Cinematic have never read any of the comic books that the characters are based on, and if you wanted to start now, it would be tough, as some of these characters have been around for the better part of a century. Of course, you can't tell stories for that long without some of those stories getting a little strange. Here are some of the wildest facts from the comics about your favorite Marvel characters.

 Iron Man - His Armor Fell In Love With Him

Tony Stark is a technical genius, having designed his Iron Man armor himself. Stark also knows a thing or two about artificial intelligence, so the fact that he created a sentient Iron Man suit powered by AI isn't that surprising. However, things got slightly out of hand when the armor fell in love with Stark. It loved him so much that it ultimately sacrificed itself to save his life.

 Captain America - Became A Werewolf 

Captain America has been through a lot, not the least of which being frozen in ice for a few decades, but one of the strangest occurrences took place in the early 1990s when Cap was transformed into a werewolf. Steve Rogers was investigating apparent werewolf killings, because werewolves are a thing in the Marvel Universe, when he was attacked and captured. When he awoke, he discovered he'd been given a werewolf serum. His own super soldier serum kept him from succumbing to the worst of being a werewolf until he was transformed back later. 

Black Widow - Cloned 

Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow was killed off in the MCU, but if they want to bring her back, they can just do what they did in the comics. After Black Widow was killed in the comics by an evil Captain America (long story) Marvel brought her back by simply cloning her. Apparently, the Red Room where Natasha Romanoff was trained  keeps clones around for just such an emergency.

 Hawkeye - Originally A Villain 

As one of the core members of the Avengers one may think Clint Barton has always been a... well, straight shooter, but Hawkeye started his career as a villain. As a young man, he met Black Widow when she was still living her life as a trained assassin and thief. He got caught up in a theft of Tony Stark's tech, leading him to become a wanted man. 

The Incredible Hulk - Last Man on Earth 

Turning into the Incredible Hulk has a lot of significant downsides for Bruce Banner, but if there is one (maybe) upside, it's that he doesn't have to worry about dying. In the Marvel Comic simply titled Hulk: The End it is supposed that Hulk is functionally immortal, and as such, even after the rest of the world has been destroyed by nuclear holocaust, Bruce Banner lives. In the end, even the Banner portion of Hulk passes away, but Hulk lives on, truly alone. 

Thor - Turned Into A Frog 

When you hang around with the God of Mischief, you have to expect some shenanigans, and Loki certainly delivered during a small Thor arc in the 1960s. Using some magic power he acquired Loki hit a human woman with a transmutation beam, and when that woman later kissed Thor, he went all Princess and the Frog and was transformed into a frog. 

Nick Fury - Was An airshow performer 

It's hard to imagine Nick Fury as anything other than the all-around badass that he is both in the comics and in the movies, but before any of that, Fury was an entertainer. Fury and a friend joined a traveling air show, where Nick performed a wing-walking act. It was while doing this that he met members of the British military, who recruited him, starting him on the path to being the secret agent we know.

Loki - Can't Swim

Loki is the God of Mischief and seems to be all-powerful. There's little that he can't do, transforming himself to look like anything or anyone he chooses, and yet he can't swim. In the early comics, it was revealed that Loki's powers do not work when he's submerged in water and that apparently means that he's so weak he can't actually swim.

Black Panther - Beat Up The Fantastic Four To Test Himself 

It's not all that uncommon for Marvel heroes to fight each other. It happens for all sorts of reasons, but Black Panther's debut in Marvel Comics involves him tricking the Fantastic Four into coming to Wakanda so he can test himself against them. The test went well, he beat all four of them single-handedly.

Doctor Strange - Met Benjamin Franklin’s Ghost 

When you're a Sorcerer Supreme it's perhaps not that unusual to meet famous people or their ghosts. Doctor Strange had a run-in with the ghost of Benjamin Franklin (alongside Deadpool). What makes this notable is that the two didn't get along because Strange had previously time-traveled, and met the living Franklin, who had put the moves on Strange's girlfriend Clea.  

Wanda Maximoff - Imagined Her Children (Sort Of)

Few of the strangest things to happen to comic book characters have actually made their way into the Marvel movies or TV shows, but one element that did was the children of Wanda Maximoff and Vision, who, in both the movies and comics, don't actually exist in the strictest sense, as they were created magically by Wanda and once the magic stopped they went away. Except in the comics, they eventually come back. 

Ant-Man - Court-Martialed For Unnecessary Violence, And Hit His Wife 

The first Ant-Man, Hank Pym, may have technically been a superhero, but he wasn't a very nice guy. In a 1981 comic Pym is court-martialed for unnecessary violence, after he beat up a villain who had already been captured. Pym also planned to attack the Avengers with a robot that only he would be able to defeat. As part of that storyline, a frustrated Hank backhands Janet Van Dyne across the face. Michael Douglas plays him much nicer.

 Wasp - Hooked Up With Magneto 

In a case that feels like textbook Stockholm Syndrome, an issue of the Secret Wars comic sees Wasp, who had previously been a prisoner of Magneto, get it on with the supervillain. Apparently Magneto has really nice eyes. Who knew?

Vision - Built From The Original Human Torch 

You might be familiar with the Human Torch who is a member of the Fantastic Four, but that character is actually the second to carry that name. The original Human Torch was a World War II contemporary of Captain America and wasn't actually human, he was an android. In fact, it was the body of the original Human Torch that was used when the android Vision was created decades later.

Winter Soldier - He Rescued Wolverine, Then Killed His Wife 

The Winter Soldier spent decades being thawed out to perform various tasks before being put back on ice, as such he ends up playing a part in many key moments in Marvel Comics history. He was actually at the Weapon X facility and he aided Wolverine in escaping from it. Their next encounter would be more heartbreaking, as the Winter Soldier was responsible for the death of Wolverine's wife Itsu.

She-Hulk - Briefly Became The Iron Fist And Also Black Widow 

Superhero team-ups are always a fun moment for fans, but while She-Hulk has had her share of chances to work alongside other heroes. She's also just... become them. In 2020 she picked up the Iron Fist ankh and briefly gained the powers of the Iron Fist. This was after the Infinity Wars comic event, in which She-Hulk was physically and mentally merged with Black Widow, giving her the powers of both. 

Wolverine - Went Feral

Wolverine has always been a character capable of great violence, but in the 1990s Wolverine lost the adamantium in his skeleton, and it was discovered that the metal in his body actually held back part of his mutation. Without it, Logan eventually became little more than a slobbering beast.

Deadpool - Beat Up Zombie Abraham Lincoln 

Deadpool is such a wild character that it's difficult to come up with any wild facts that actually seem that wild... for Deadpool, but he did once beat up a zombie of Abraham Lincoln, and no other Marvel hero can say that.

 Falcon - Telepathically Linked To Birds 

The Falcon of the MCU can fly but the Falcon of Marvel Comics is into birds in a big way. His sidekick Redwing is an actual falcon, and the two are closer than you might think, because the human Falcon has a telepathic link to his flying friend, and is able to forge similar psychic links with other birds.

Ms. Marvel - Fought A Villain From A Video Game

It's always satisfying when you beat a difficult boss in a video game, but Ms. Marvel likely felt even better when she defeated Doc.X. Originally created for MMORPG video game in the comics, Doc.X becomes a computer virus, and a sentient one. Able to take over nearly any electronic device, Doc.X was a significant foe for Ms. Marvel, but when it tried to leap out of the digital world Ms. Marvel took it down in a single punch.

Daredevil - Had To Retrieve His Father’s Body From Mole Man

Supervillains get up to some pretty shady stuff, but grave-robbing is pretty low, even for them. But in a series of Daredevil comics the Mole Man goes on a grave robbing spree, which draws in the Man Without Fear when the Mole Man steals the corpse of Matt Murdock's father. In a comic series that has no shortage of grim storylines, few have been grimmer. 

Moon Knight - Might Just Be Insane 

Moon Knight has a lot going on. He has the powers of an ancient Egyptian god, and he also suffers from multiple personality disorder. The sanity of the character has always been in question in the comics, but at various points, it's been suggested that maybe all of it is a delusion and Moon Knight has no superpowers, doesn't talk to gods, and is just completely insane.

The Punisher - Became A Black Man 

A lot of ideas in comics that may have seemed like a good idea at the time don't age well. Such is the case with this Punisher story that sees Frank Castle escape from prison, but only after having his face scarred by Jigsaw. Frank goes to a shady surgeon to get plastic surgery so that nobody will recognize him, and, uh, it works, as he transforms the Punisher into a Black man. This was undone quickly.

 Blade - Fought Dracula 

Blade is a vampire hunter so maybe it shouldn't be that wild that he has, on more than one occasion, fought the vampire, in Dracula himself. Still, it's a bit wild to see Bram Stoker's creation from over 100 years ago fighting a guy who looks like Wesley Snipes. 

Magneto - Ripped Out Wolverine’s Adamantium From His Bones

From the "why didn't you do that sooner department" we have Magneto, the mutant who has total control of metal, and has been fighting Wolverine for decades, but it wasn't until the '90s that he thought to just yank all the metal right off his bones. Thanks to Wolverine's healing factor, it doesn't kill him, though we do discover that Wolverine's claws are naturally occurring bone, and not complete adamantium, as had been previously believed. 

 Ghost Rider - Became The King Of The Underworld 

Marvel's Ghost Rider contains the spirit of a trapped demon, so it's no surprise that Johnny Blaze, the main incarnation of the character, feels at home in the Underworld. Blaze was killed in a battle with Mephisto (Marvel's Satan) in a 2018 comic, which resulted in him going to the land of the dead. Since Mephisto was busy trying to take over the living world, Ghost Rider had little difficulty in becoming the new king.

Spider-Man: Reign was a limited series comic that sees an alternate universe web-head, decades in the future, come out of retirement. A lot has happened to this Spidey in the last few decades, including the death of Mary Jane, which we eventually learn came about due to cancer she contracted by having sex with her husband. Apparently, Spider-Man's blood wasn't the only thing that was radioactive. 

 Professor X - Had His Brain Stolen By Red Skull 

If you're going to steal somebody's brain, it makes sense to get one that belongs to somebody really smart. That's apparently the strategy of the clone of Red Skull who, in an attempt to gain mutant abilities, has his minions steal the corpse of the recently deceased Professor X so he can graft the dead man's mutant brain on his own body, thus gaining Xavier's mental powers.

Namor - Fought With Captain America In WWII

Namor is something of an anti-hero in Marvel Comics. He has little love for the surface world. But he has even less love for Nazis, as Namor has been an ally of Captain America since WWII, the two fought together in the superhero team called the Invaders before Captain America was frozen in ice.

Rogue - Stole Her Powers From Captain Marvel 

The X-Men member Rogue can fly and has super strength in the comics, though she doesn't have those abilities in all adaptations. This is because Rogue used to be a villain and in a battle with Captain Marvel, used her absorbing power to gain Marvel's strength and flight. It put Carol Danvers in a coma, and while the power Rogue gains usually faded, these did not.

In an Avengers comic from 1964, Carol Danvers discovers she is pregnant, but has no idea how it happened. She gives birth, and the baby grows at an alarming rate. He eventually becomes a man, called Marcus. It's revealed that Marcus, trapped in Limbo, manipulated Carol and impregnated her with himself (comics are weird) in order to escape limbo, then wiped her memory of the whole affair. The even wilder thing is that, at the time, nobody seemed to have a problem with any of this, leading to a significant rift between Carol and the Avengers. 

 Venom - Joined The Guardians Of The Galaxy 

The Guardians of the Galaxy were already a motley crew, but they were certainly more so when Venom became a member of the team. This was when Venom had bonded with Flash Thompson, not Eddie Brock, who is most associated with the character, but that only makes the situation weirder.

Marvel Comics is always coming up with new stories, so we can be sure that even wilder things will be happening to our favorite characters down the road. 

Hold on to your astral projections, because Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still weaving its web of mystique on Disney+. (And it's a perfect watch for anyone looking for something creepy over the Halloween holiday.) The blockbuster comic book publisher Marvel took to social media to share the perfect Scarlet Witch pic accompanied by a cheeky, charming, and honestly, a little eerie PSA that I cannot get enough of. 

Marvel's official Threads account shared an image of everyone's favorite witch, capturing the essence of the madness before reminding everyone the superhero movie is still streaming for anyone with a Disney+ subscription. The image features the one and only Scarlet Witch (played by the incomparable Elizabeth Olsen) and depicts Wanda suspended in mid-air, surrounded by a circle of flickering candles. This visual is a testament to the film's mind-bending, magical atmosphere, but it's the accompanying quote that throws a fun curveball: 

This playful post from the comics company is a refreshing departure from the intense and otherworldly narrative of Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. You can't help but love that the company has such fun with some of its most famous characters like this.

If you’ve been following the Marvel movies in order, you already know that Multiverse of Madness takes viewers on a wild journey across different dimensions, introducing alternate versions of some beloved characters. Many fans, myself included, were genuinely surprised by Wanda’s shift to the role of the main antagonist, especially considering her profoundly moving and heroic character arc in WandaVision. Nevertheless, Doctor Strange’s second adventure still offers plenty of entertainment.

But I must admit that the Scarlet Witch’s brutal murder of the Illuminati left me quite bewildered. It felt completely out of sync with the Wanda we’ve come to know in the MCU. Here’s to hoping that if Elizabeth Olsen reprises her role, Wanda will have a chance at redemption. I just can’t bring myself to believe that her decision at the end of the film to meet her demise during the closing moments is the last we will see of her.

Elizabeth Olsen’s future within the MCU remains uncertain, especially given the actress' candidness about wanting to pursue new acting endeavors outside of superhero flicks. Her desire to explore Wanda’s mutant heritage and connections to the X-Men, who are poised to enter the fictional universe very soon, was evident in her statements this past summer. With luck, Olsen will have the chance to delve into these aspects while spreading her creative wings and taking on various projects that don’t necessitate donning a super suit.

Considering the unique structure of WandaVision and the subsequent character developments in the MCU, it appears unlikely that we’ll ever witness a second season, especially in the same way it happened for Loki. Nevertheless, the miniseries remains an exceptional show worth watching if you haven’t had the pleasure yet. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to give the Master of the Mystic Arts’ second movie a watch because either would make a heck of a “Girl’s night in.”

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of beloved characters, but a few stand out as fan favorites. Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff is definitely in that category, partly because of how beloved WandaVision was when it was released at the height of the pandemic. She’d return to the big screen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but fans were shocked that Wanda was actually the main antagonist. In fact, Scarlet Witch’s Doctor Strange 2 story is still bothering me, and I need to talk about it.

I’ve always loved Wanda in the MCU, mostly because her story is so complicated and rich. She’s been seen as a villain various times throughout her tenure in the shared universe, oftentimes without any fault of her own. WandaVision was no exception, as we slowly learned how her power and grief made the hex, and her family. But the end of that series saw her realizing the errors of the ways, and finding redemption by sacrificing Vision and the boys in order to set things right. So why did things go down in Doctor Strange 2 like they did?

The short answer was that the Darkhold had corrupted Wanda’s mind and powers. And that’s presumably why she becomes such a stone cold killer throughout the runtime of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But even given that macguffin, her actions throughout Sam Raimi’s blockbuster are still hard to grapple with.

It would be one thing to see the Scarlet Witch use her powers to attack Kamar-Taj in order to find America Chavez and use her powers. But seeing her massacre countless wizards was another matter entirely. For someone with a strong moral compass who displayed guilt about accidental casualties in Captain America: Civil War, this was a major change. Then there’s Scarlet Witch’s brutal murder of the Illuminati, which was extra gruesome. I know the Darkhold is bad, but this degree of change in her character didn’t feel right– even if Olsen’s performance was strong and the visuals were effective.

Aside from the bodycount Wanda accrued throughout the runtime of Doctor Strange 2, it was also strange that she was so singularly focused on reuniting with Tommy and Billy. It makes sense that she would want to be with her kids, but why not pick another alternate universe where Vision was also alive? Are we supposed to just believe that her feeling of mourning and loss were gone? Seriously, I'm still baffled.

Hopefully Wanda gets another redemption arc if/when she returns to the MCU. After all, no one believed she really died at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But we’ll have to see if Elizabeth Olsen returns to the role, as she’s expressed interest in playing other characters. Personally, I’m not going to be satisfied until the Scarlet Witch returns and gets the hero treatment she deserves.

Elizabeth Olsen is definitely a tried-and-true Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran at this point. She’s not only appeared in a total of five films in the superhero franchise but also headlined her own series, WandaVision (which is streamable with a Disney+ subscription). Olsen’s future in the role of Wanda Maximoff seems uncertain though, and that’s not just because Marvel Studios has yet to announce her next appearance. As of late, the fan-favorite actress has expressed interest in taking some time away from the character. Olsen even previously explained that she doesn’t miss Wanda all that much at the moment. She recently got real yet again about her feelings on playing the character moving forward.

It’s somewhat hard to believe that at this point, the actress has portrayed the powerful metahuman for nearly a decade. This fan still remembers when she debuted in the role by way of a cameo in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But considering just how long it’s been, it’s understandable that the 34-year-old star would be ready to step back from the MCU for a while. She sat down with The Times of London, during which reflected on her time with the cinematic universe and how she views Wanda at this point:

So it sounds like Elizabeth Olsen is certainly not ashamed of the role and wants nothing to do with it at this point. Instead, she simply feels the need to try other ventures at this point in her career. A prime example of that would be her recent turn in Max’s true crime limited series Love & Death. That production, which saw her play the role of Candy Montgomery, a Texas woman who murdered the wife of her lover. Olsen was truly able to flex her acting muscles as a result of that show, and it seems she’s keen on branching out even more:

As a fan of the actress, I would certainly hope she gets to play a wide range of characters as time goes on. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve greatly enjoyed what she’s brought to the role of Wanda Maximoff. Yet I’d be disappointed if she had to play that character almost exclusively in the years to come. To that end, Elizabeth Olsen even gave advice to prospective MCU stars, advising them not to sign an extensive contract up front. In short, Olsen has some serious acting chops and should be able to star in fare like Wind River and Ingrid Goes West when she sees fit.

Elizabeth Olsen’s desire to try new endeavors doesn’t mean she’s done with the MCU altogether either. This past summer, she admitted she still has a desire to explore Wanda’s mutant heritage and connections to the X-Men, who are set to arrive in the fictional universe at some point. Hopefully, Olsen is afforded that opportunity as well as the chance to spread her wings and jump into plenty of projects that don’t require her to dress in a super suit.

Those who do long to revisit all of her Marvel performances, though, can do just that by streaming the movies and TV shows on Disney+.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to be wildly popular, thanks to content on the big screen as well as streaming shows for those with a Disney+ subscription. Actress Elizabeth Olsen has worked in both mediums, resulting in Scarlet Witch becoming a fan favorite character. She filmed WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2 in quick succession, before finally getting a break from her signature character. And Olsen recently explained why she doesn’t currently miss playing Wanda Maximoff. 

It’s almost hard to believe, but Olsen has been playing Wanda for nearly a decade. She debuted during Avengers: Age of Ultron, which began photography back in 2014. She became a larger character in recent years, especially thanks to the wildly popular TV show WandaVision. The Ingrid Goes West actress recently spoke to White Lotus’ Meghann Fahy for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, where she was asked if she missed Wanda at all. But Olsen responded honestly, saying:

Points were made. While both audiences and Elizabeth Olsen want to see Scarlet Witch’s redemption in the MCU sometime down the line, the actress feels accomplished with what she’s already managed to achieve with Wanda. And she’s especially proud of WandaVision, which was universally acclaimed and nominated for major Emmy categories.

Elizabeth Olsen’s Marvel comments come as she’s been celebrating the release of her HBO series Love & Death. But conversations about her career all eventually turn to the MCU, and her years as Wanda Maximoff/The Scarlet Witch. And she seems to have a great perspective about her career as an Avenger, and would feel fulfilled if she found out that she was fired today. But given just how popular she is, I highly doubt that’s what Marvel Studios is planning.

Wanda’s future definitely feels up in the air, especially after the ending of Doctor Strange in the Multivers of Madness. After serving as the movie’s villain and killing a number of characters including the Illuminati, she eventually destroyed The Darkhold Castle with herself inside of it. But fans didn’t buy that such a powerful being actually died in this way.

Unfortunately, there’s been no news as to when we might see the Scarlet Witch again. Olsen herself doesn’t know, and admitted she’s not actually contracted for a return. The most obvious title to bring her back seems like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The title character is expected to be the next Thanos-level threat to the MCU, so the heroes are going to need all the help they can get.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is always growing an expanding, and we’re currently in Phase Five thanks to the release of Ant-Man 3. The last slate of projects kicked off with WandaVision, which was a wildy successful show for everyone with a Disney+ subscription. Scarlet Witch has become a fan favorite character in the process, despite her murderous actions in Doctor Strange 2. But Elizabeth Olsen recently offered a discouraging update about Wanda’s future in the MCU.

While Phase Five is jam-packed with plenty of highly anticipated upcoming Marvel movies, fans are curious about the future of certain characters, especially the Scarlet Witch. Her fate was left unclear at the end of Doctor Strange 2, with the fans not buying that she actually perished while bringing down Wundagore and destroying the Darkhold. While appearing on TODAY, Wanda herself was asked about what was coming next. While she didn’t want her words to get twisted, she eventually responded honestly with:

Marvel is known for its tight security, even with its starring cast. Elizabeth Olsen has been honest about being in the dark about her character before, and it looks like she’s once again clueless about what might come next for Wanda. What’s more, it doesn’t seem like there’s currently any guarantee that she will be back. But luckily she’s interested, which is definitely a hopeful indication of  the future.

Olsen’s comments came during an exchange with none other than Al Roker, while promoting her new HBO Max series Love & Death, which co-stars Jesse Plemons. Eventually the conversation turned to her time in the MCU, which is no doubt a common experience for the actress. But it seems like she actually doesn’t have much to offer in the way of updates.

In that same interview, Al Roker pushed with follow-ups asking if Elizabeth Olsen filmed or even seen a script for Wanda’s return to the MCU. While laughing off the questions, she gave as finite a response as possible, saying:

There you have it. Olsen has no contract and no clue what might be coming next for her signature character. But given just how popular Wanda is, fans assume she’ll be back eventually. You can see her appearance on TODAY below:

Phase Four and Five have introduced countless new characters, many of whom are expected to factor majorly into what’s coming next. Right now the next major crossover is expected to be in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in 2025, with that blockbuster currently in development. Fans would no doubt be thrilled for the Scarlet Witch to join the battle against that titular villain, but we’ll have to wait for any official announcements from Marvel Studios. 

Aside from the comic book action, it does make sense narratively for Wanda to return, and get some closure/redemption for her actions throughout both WandaVision and especially Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While she seemed remorseful for her actions in Westview, her mind was seemingly corrupted by the Darkhold. She racked up quite a bodycount while on the multiversal hunt for her sons (including those grisly Illuminati cameos), and some fans thought her actions didn’t make sense.

Wanda Maximoff has had a fascinating story throughout the MCU, going from villain to Avenger and then back again. Fans didn’t buy that she died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and are eager to see where her story will go next. Elizabeth Olsen was recently asked by ScreenRant about her inevitable return as the Scarlet Witch, offering:

Sign me up. As a hardore Wanda fan, I’m going to happy with pretty much any incarnation of Elizabeth Olsen’s signature characte. But I’d definitely love to see the lighter side of her, as well as an eventual path to redemption following the events of WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2.

Elizabeth Olsen’s comments about her possible return to the MCU came as she was at SXSW promoting her new limited series Love & Death which is heading to HBO. Eventually the conversation turned to her tenure in the MCU, as I’m sure most of her interviews are wont to do. Because after WandaVision became a sensation, the fans are still very much invested in Scarlet Witch as a character.

Aside from hoping for more comedy, Elizabeth Olsen also indicated that her signature character is in dire need of a redemption arc. Throughout the runtime of WandaVision it was revealed that the entire town of Westview was under her chaos magic, as a result of her mourning Vision. While she reversed her magic and expressed remorse, the Scarlet Witch once again stepped into her villain era in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

After her mind was corrupted by the Darkhold, Wanda stopped at nothing to try and gain America Chavez’s powers and be reunited with her children from WandaVision. Throughout the runtime of Doctor Strange 2 we watched her kill sorcerers at Kamar-Taj and savagely murder the Illuminati in another universe. Can she come back from these crimes? Is the Darkhold really all to blame? Only time will tell.

When we last saw Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it slooked like she’d sacrificed her life to both destroy Mount Wundagore and all copies of the book of spells known as the Darkhold across the multiverse. However, if a wild new rumor is to be believed, Wanda will have a big part to play in the upcoming conflict centered around Kang the Conqueror, a villain who already has a lot of fans in his corner.

Following Johnathan Majors debuting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Kang variant He Who Remains in the Loki Season 1 finale, the actor is debuting as the main Kang next month in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Just like Thanos in The Infinity Saga, Kang is serving as the overarching antagonist of The Multiverse Saga, with his schemes coming to a head in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. So what is he plotting besides causing general mayhem across time and countless realties? Well, starting off, The Cosmic Circus has heard that there’s a plan to reveal that either the main Kang or one of his other variants is the author of the Darkhold.

This on its own is interesting enough, because while Kang the Conqueror is one of the most powerful villains in Marvel lore, he usually carries out his schemes using science and advance technology. If this rumor is accurate, then either the MCU’s main Kang or one of his doppelgängers has also dabbled in magic. It’s also worth remembering that in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wong said that the demon Chthon carved his dark magic into Mount Wundagore’s tomb eons ago, and that magic was transcribed into the spells contained in the Darkhold. Now there’s the possibility that a Kang was the one who did the transcribing, and that the Darkhold has a deeper connection to the multiverse than we thought.

But here’s where things get especially intriguing. In the WandaVision finale, Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Darkness (who has her own Disney+ series on the way) revealed there’s a prophecy written in the Darkhold that Scarlet Witch, the mantle Wanda Maximoff now carries, is destined to either rule or destroy the world. That prophecy didn’t come to pass since Wanda destroyed Mount Wundagore and all of the Darkhold copies, but as Cosmic Circus pointed out, maybe that’s what Kang wanted to happen. If his goal is to rule all of existence across the multiverse, then he wouldn’t want someone like Wanda to steal his thunder. Just because Kang or one of his variants may have transcribed those spells doesn’t mean he’d be a fan of them.

So what does all this mean for Scarlet Witch? Well for now, we don’t know for sure if she’s still alive in the MCU or not, but Elizabeth Olsen hopes that her character is heading “towards some kind of redemption.” So for the sake of argument, let’s say Wanda Maximoff wasn’t crushed to death in Mount Wundagore. Because she didn’t fulfill the Darkhold prophecy, Wanda could simply resurface in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty as one of the heroes who fights back against Kang the Conqueror.  

However, even though all versions of the Darkhold were wiped from existence, Kang is a time traveler, meaning he can easily go back and retrieve a Darkhold from prior to the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Keeping that in mind, I also envision a scenario where Kang somehow channels the power of the Darkhold in a way that works to his benefit, resulting in Wanda becoming his unwitting pawn. It’s not like Kang is lacking for power, but if he can find a way to harness her apocalyptic potential, that might all but guarantee his victory.

If one of the upcoming Marvel movies or Marvel TV shows reveal that Kang the Conqueror or a Kang variant is indeed the Darkhold’s author, we’ll let you know. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens in theaters on February 17, and you can use your Disney+ subscription in the meantime to rewatch WandaVision, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or nearly every other MCU entry.

Although most of the characters featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe originally hail from the pages of Marvel Comics, there are a handful who were created specifically for the franchise and were later brought to the comics. We can now count Darcy Lewis in this group, because following Kat Dennings shining as the character across a few Marvel movies and the Disney+ show WandaVision (albeit with her subplot being scrapped), Darcy is finally making her printed page debut in Scarlet Witch’s new comic book series.

Fresh off of Scarlet Witch, a.k.a. Wanda Maximoff, serving as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ main antagonist and Darcy Lewis cameoing in Thor: Love and Thunder (both movies can be watched with a Disney+ subscription), these two characters will be crossing paths in the new ongoing Scarlet Witch ongoing series being written by Steve Orlando, illustrated by Sara Pichelli and colored by Matt Wilson. To be clear, this is not taking place in the MCU continuity, but in the main Marvel Comics universe, though it is confusing that both these realities are called Earth-616. Regardless, the series follows Wanda finally at peace with herself and jumping back into the superhero business, and with a new costume to boot!

You can read Polygon’s interview with Steve Orlando and Sara Pichelli to get a better sense of what to expect Scarlet Witch’s new comic book series, but on the subject of Darcy Lewis’ involvement, Orlando, who previously wrote Scarlet Witch for the Darkhold miniseries, shared what she brings to the story: with these words:

Steve Orlando also mentioned that readers will see the comics version of Darcy Lewis hanging around Wanda Maximoff’s new magic shop, which will help her play a more active role in her community. While it sounds like comic book Darcy’s personality is in line with the Kat Dennings version, it sounds like that’s where the similarities will end. Who knows, maybe we’ll learn in a later issue that she is friendly with Jane Foster or has ties to S.W.O.R.D., but for now, her chief purpose is to provide witty commentary on the insane superhuman/supernatural phenomena that Scarlet Witch deals with on a consistent basis.

Kat Dennings debuted as Darcy Lewis in 2011’s Thor, with the character being a political science major who volunteered to be the research assistant for Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and Stellan Skarsgård’s Erik Selvig in New Mexico for college credit. Darcy and Jane were still working together in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, but then the former didn’t appear in the MCU until WandaVision. In the time between the second Thor movie and the aftermath of the Blip, Darcy obtained a doctorate in astrophysics, and the first of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series saw her working closely with Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau during the Westview Anomaly. As mentioned earlier, Darcy also popped up in the most recent Thor movie, although Dennings initially didn’t think she’d be brought into Love and Thunder.

Until now, I had never really thought Scarlett Johansson and Elizabeth Olsen looked all that similar. Despite them both playing major roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I don’t think I ever really saw them together and never made a connection. However, this new deepfake showed the two actresses together and the resemblance is pretty wild. Although, the internet was quick to point out which actress was deepfaked, and which was real. 

The video from @TheSmarmyBum on Twitter showed a side-by-side of Olsen and Johansson. It’s the same interview, with the same hair and outfit, the only difference is their faces, meaning one of them is deepfaked. The caption asked people to guess which was real, but users were quick to point out the Black Widow actress was clearly the fake. Check it out: 

While the two moved in unison, and it was a little tough to tell the difference at first glance, fans were quick to point out why it’s obviously not Johansson. @miss_mack_23 wrote:

Admittedly, I figured it out quickly because of the hair. Johansson has never really had a haircut like that, at least that I’m aware of. Whereas Olsen has been rocking the long beachy waves and the bangs for a while now. However, if that would not have been the case I would have been tricked, because the faces are super convincing, which speaks to how far deepfake technology has come. 

Deepfakes have become more, and more popular, and more technologically advanced in the last few years, with people making tons of videos replacing actors in various movies. For example, one person imagined what it would be like to see The Boys star Karl Urban as Wolverine in a convincing X-Men deepfake. While that was more of a dream cast situation, another fan deepfaked Tom Cruise as Iron Man, which was something that almost happened in the early days of the MCU. 

Other deepfakes have gone outside dream casting, like this video of Olsen and Johansson, to create trippy and funny videos. Along with the two MCU stars, Keanu Reeves has been a subject of this type of deepfake. This is because a fan hilariously, and convincingly edited The Matrix star into a TikTok about waiting for laundry. 

Sadly, this little video is probably the closest we’ll get to seeing the two actresses in the same frame. While you can see them in the same movies if you watch the Marvel movies in order, they never really have screen time together. However, that shouldn't stop you from watching their wonderful performances. While they don’t have any upcoming Marvel projects in the works you can always go back and watch them in their respective solo projects Black Widow and WandaVision with a Disney+ subscription. 

The end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness did not bode well for the Scarlet Witch, to put it lightly. Wanda Maximoff went down a deep and dark path in an effort to save her kids which caused major damage to the multiverse. Her future is unknown, but in the multiverse anything is possible, and the actress behind the Scarlet Witch has some thoughts about this topic.

Wanda ended up being the big bad of the Doctor Strange sequel. After trying to destroy Doctor Strange in an effort to be with her kids, she realized her wrongdoings and destroyed the Darkhold. She went down with the book and is seemingly dead, however, in the multiverse anything can happen. Elizabeth Olsen explained her thoughts on the possibility of Wanda’s redemption to Variety. 

When CinemaBlend interviewed Olsen about the movie, she explained that she wasn’t sure what was next for her character. She also discussed how she was “confused” by the choice to make Scarlet Witch the antagonist of the Doctor Strange sequel. I’ll admit, I was in a similar boat. The decision was confusing to me too, and I’m very curious to see where Wanda goes next. 

As Doctor Strang once said the multiverse is something we know "frighteningly little" about, and with that anything is possible. Olsen has said herself, that it would be cool to see the X-Men in the MCU, and that she wants to be there for it when it happens. With the word “mutant” now being in the MCU’s vocabulary after the finale of Ms. Marvel, and Professor X showing up in Multiverse of Madness, I think seeing Scarlet Witch with the X-Men is not an unrealistic ask. If anything I think it will likely happen. 

It could also be interesting to see new variants of Wanda throughout the multiverse. With the Scarlet Witch, we've gotten to know, currently under a lot of rubble, it seems like if we were to see Wanda again it might be in a variant form. However, I hope we get to see the Wanda we know and love so she has a chance to redeem herself. 

There’s lots of time and projects to make this redemption arc work out. With Phases 4, 5 and 6 of the MCU planned out, it will be interesting to see if Wanda shows up in one of them, or if she gets her own show or movie further down the road. While we might not see Wanda in an upcoming project anytime soon, you can rewatch her arc from hero to villain in WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with a Disney+ subscription. 

Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a wild ride so far, thanks to ambitious projects on the small and silver screens. Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was no exception, as it covered a variety of different universes and timelines. But the movie also left audiences with some questions, with Doctor Strange 2’s writer addressing that Scarlet Witch cliffhanger.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was written by Michael Waldron, and served as a sequel to both the first Strange and WandaVision. Fans were shocked when Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff served as the movie’s primary antagonist, with her character’s mind warped by the Darkhold. The movie ended with the Scarlet Witch seemingly sacrificing herself to destroy the Darkhold forever, but is the fan-favorite Avenger really gone? Waldron spoke to Empire about this ending, saying:

Same, though. While Michael Waldron isn’t sure what the MCU’s future has for Wanda, he would definitely like to see the magical hero return to the big screen in another installment of the shared universe. Considering how many questions are still surrounding the Scarlet Witch and her powers, smart money says fans would echo those thoughts. After all, WandaVision made her into an absolutely beloved figure.

Michael Waldron’s comments to Empire come from a longer story about his work on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But given the popularity of Wanda Maximoff, it makes sense that the conversation eventually turned to Elizabeth Olsen’s signature character. Fans are still hoping to see the Scarlet Witch’s redemption, despite the bodycount she racked up in Doctor Strange 2 and the Westview incident from WandaVision. She seemingly sacrificed herself to bring down Mount Wundagore, which hinted at Wanda’s true nature. But hopefully that’s not the last we’ll be seeing of her.

WandaVision was a complicated story about Wanda’s grief and trauma, eventually resulting in her embracing her destiny as the Scarlet Witch. While fans delighted in seeing her at the height of her power in Doctor Strange 2, some were puzzled by her murderous actions. While it was explained that the Darkhold corrupted her mind, it’s unclear if her return will feature the Scarlet Witch as a hero or villain. Talk about a complicated character.

For her part, Elizabeth Olsen also claims she has no idea whether or not she’s got a future in the MCU. But considering that OG Avengers like Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Robert Downey Jr. have already departed the shared universe, it seems unwise not to capitalize on a popular character like Wanda.

If you followed the first season of What If…? last summer, you’ll likely remember one great highlight of the animated series – there was a story set in a universe where a zombie apocalypse infects the Avengers. Following that episode, Marvel announced they’d be exploring this idea further on Disney+ with the series Marvel Zombies. At Friday’s San Diego Comic-Con panel about all things Marvel Animation, attendees got a closer look at this upcoming show, and there are a ton of MCU favorites coming to the show. 

When CinemaBlend was in attendance at the first-ever SDCC Marvel Animation panel, the creators of the series announced the following Avengers will appear in Marvel Zombies in zombie form: cut-in-half Captain America, Abomination, Ghost from Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Okoye, and Ikaris from Eternals. Fighting these zombies will be Black Widow’s Yelena Belova and Red Guardian, Shang-Chi, Awkwafina’s Katy and Death Dealer (both also from Shang-Chi), Hawkeye’s Kate Bishop, WandaVision’s Jimmy Woo and the MCU's latest hero, Ms. Marvel.

In the zombies episode from What If…?, the animated series teamed up Spider-Man, Wasp, Okoye, Hulk, Vision among other heroes in the alternate universe’s zombie apocalypse, which infected all kinds of enhanced characters. We had an elevation of zombie genre past the typical zombie, because these were super-powered zombies! Marvel Zombies is based on a comic series started in 2005 by The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman. 

Zombie Ikaris in particular looks like he’ll be a problem for these MCU characters to take on given he apparently cannot become a full zombie, per the creators. Ikaris debuted in the MCU this past November in Eternals, where the Superman-like being became the main villain of the movie. Additionally, the panelists shared a team of Widows and biker gang of Skrulls would be in Marvel Zombies as well. 

During the panel, it was also announced that Marvel Zombies would be the first Disney+ Marvel series to be rated TV-MA for all the extra blood and gore it will include. The series will premiere in 2024, alongside another upcoming Marvel series, Spider-Man: Freshman Year, which was also talked about during the panel, with word that Charlie Cox will reprise Daredevil for the series following his tenure in live-action in Netflix’s Daredevil (now on Disney+) and more recently made a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Marvel Zombies is even more exciting now that we know so many MCU favorites, especially those introduced more recently in Marvel's Phase 4, will be fighting zombies in the series as we also follow their live-action arcs in Marvel movies thus far and coming in the future. It wasn’t specified how much of these characters will be voiced by their live-action actors, but the series is in early development. As we learn more about upcoming Marvel projects we’ll keep you updated here on CinemaBlend. 

We already know how close to the vest Marvel Studios keeps its movie and television projects, and as we’ve come to learn over the years, the company is just as secretive to their leading actors. Now it makes sense that ignorance might be bliss for Marvel actors like Elizabeth Olsen when promoting the latest Marvel movies like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but according to the Scarlet Witch actress, piracy worries extend to her as well. 

As it turns out, Elizabeth Olsen viewed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (which recently hit Disney+ after making $950 million worldwide), and was given the movie by Marvel in a way that has led her to not having seen it to this day. In her words: 

While Elizabeth Olsen was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actress admitted she has yet to see the 2022 blockbuster because of the circumstances of the premiere. The actress had a cold on the night, so she requested what is called a “screener” to view the movie at home. However, the copy had a watermark of her name on it. Olsen continued: 

Screeners of movies shown before their release date and at home typically use watermarks and timestamps on them. In fact, journalists who get these movies early can relate to the experience of watching a whole movie with their full name across the screen to remind one to not screenshot or record the movie before it is released to the public. But Elizabeth Olsen has to deal with this too? You’d think being an Avenger would earn one some kind of early copy of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness without a watermark. 

While speaking to Jimmy Fallon, Elizabeth Olsen shared her disinterest in pirating Marvel projects, because duh… it’s her movie! It’s pretty funny when you think about it, but then again, it is Marvel. Remember, the studio told the actress she’d be reprising Scarlet Witch in Multiverse of Madness just before the movie began production, and she’d already been on set shooting WandaVision, leaving her “confused.” Olsen has also been honest about her Marvel role, perhaps taking her away from other movies.
