I do believe there’s a good reason to feel anxious for just about every character on The Pitt. However, there are a few that live at the top of the list and receive the majority of my concern, like Langdon and Robby. Now, another character has found his way into this top tier of worry, and I need to talk about why.

The character in question is Gerran Howell’s Dennis Whitaker. That’s because, when Season 2 of The Pitt concluded on the 2026 TV schedule, I was feeling pretty good about where he was at, he was confident at work and he seemed genuinely happy. However, a new interview with the actor and a couple of seconds in Season 3’s trailer seem to imply he’s not in that state of mind anymore, which is concerning.

One Conversation In The Pitt’s Season 3 Trailer That Makes Me Worry For Whitaker

So, in the first footage we got of The Pitt’s third season, right after Abbot makes a comment about Robby’s return that has me convinced we’ll see more Nightcrawlers in the new episodes, we see Santos and Whitaker clocking in. They have the following conversation:

• Santos: Try not to kill anyone today.
• Whitaker: Yeah, you too.

Now, Whitaker does not strike me as the kind of guy who would resort to thinking these kinds of thoughts or turning to blunt confrontation during a hard day at work. He’s the wholesome farm boy. However, maybe some of Santos’ aggression has rubbed off on him since they started living together.

Overall, it just seems like Howell’s character is starting his day off in a bad mood, and that can’t bode well for him. Now, why is he in a bad mood that’s worth worrying about? A new interview helped me develop a theory that might answer that question.

Gerran Howell Made A Comment That Makes Me Think Whitaker Will Be So Sad In Season 3

Let’s remember where Whitaker’s story ended in Season 2: he got in a truck and drove off with Amy Miller, a former patient he was helping out. There were very romantic undertones there, and Robby was clearly worried about this situation.

I think that’s relevant to note, because that clip played as Howell explained what music would be on Whitaker’s Season 3 playlist. Here’s what the actor who is nominated for a 2026 Emmy told The Pitt’s Instagram:

The song in question deals with Bridgers’ “struggles with agnosticism and her lack of faith,” according to Genius. The lyrics also imply that she’s feeling lonely, as she sings lines like: “Because I think when you’re gone, it’s forever / But you know I’d stand on the corner / Embarrassed with a picket sign / If it meant I would see you when I die.” Those lyrics certainly give “sad yearning” to me.

And it makes me think that Whitaker’s feeling lonely and lost this season and potentially looking for some new purpose. In Season 2, we saw him find purpose outside of work with his relationship with the former patient. However, the apprehension others felt toward that made it clear that it wasn’t a good situation for him to be in.

If something bad happened between Whitaker and Amy, his bad attitude in the Season 3 trailer would make a lot more sense, and so would Howell’s song choice. So, I’m expecting an update on this front when Season 3 of The Pitt premieres in January.

In the meantime, I’ll be rewatching Seasons 1 and 2 with my HBO Max subscription to try and figure out why exactly Whitaker will be in a state of “sad yearning” come Season 3.

People love the Night Shift on The Pitt so much that a spinoff has been highly requested by fans. However, Noah Wyle and co. have shot that idea down a few times now, so I think we need to drop it for a bit. Thankfully, the Nightcrawlers will be more involved in Season 3, and I have a theory about why they could actually be even more involved in the season than I originally anticipated.

We Know The Night Shift Staff Will Be Featured More In Season 3

Now, before Season 2 even ended, we knew we’d be seeing at least one Nightcrawler on the regular in Season 3. Along with the announcement that Supriya Ganesh, who played Dr. Samira Mohan, would be leaving, we learned that Ayesha Harris, who plays Dr. Parker Ellis, would be upgraded to a regular. She’s a resident on the Night Shift, and she’ll be working a double during Season 3.

Alongside her, The Pitt’s Season 3 cast announcement also included Shawn Hatosy, who plays one of the night’s attendings, Dr. Jack Abbot. If he is now a regular, that means we will likely see more of him than normal in the upcoming episodes. So, the question becomes: Why is he staying in The Pitt outside his normal hours? Well, I have a theory.

Why I Think Abbot Could Play A Bigger Part In Season 3 Than We’re Used To

In the teaser trailer for The Pitt’s third season, it opens with Abbot and Shen, the Night Shift’s two attendings, commenting on Robby’s return to work after his sabbatical. Here’s what they had to say:

• Shen: Robby’s name is on the schedule. Is he finally back?
• Abbot: I’ll believe it when I see it.

Now, I know nothing about what exactly has happened in Robby’s absence and when exactly he was supposed to return. However, this conversation makes me think that he was supposed to clock back in earlier but extended his time off. The tone the two attendings use also seems to imply that they’re fed up with Noah Wyle’s character.

So, my theory is that they’ve had to help cover him and work double shifts. And Abbot is scheduled to work a double this day because they weren’t 100% sure Robby would be back.

Remember, at the end of Season 2, we learned that Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi had had a couple of seizures throughout the day. When she told Robby about them, she also proposed that they have two attendings on at all times so she could keep working, and there’d be someone else around to both help and be there in case she had a seizure.

We don’t know what protocol was put in place after that, and we don’t know if Robby reported her. However, we do know she’s at work in Season 3, and it seems reasonable that a second attending was needed during the day while he was out. To cover for that, a smattering of other attendings could have filled in for him. I think two doctors on that list would have to be Abbot and Shen.

So, that could explain why we might see more of the Night Shift in Season 3.

Obviously, it’s unclear what exactly will happen here. However, it does seem likely that the Nightcrawlers will be more involved in Season 3 than they have been in the past. So, while we wait to see if my theory is correct, you can go back and stream the first two seasons of The Pitt with an HBO Max subscription.

It’s time for Robby to clock back into The Pitt after leaving at the end of Season 2, and it’s time for us to see what his colleagues have been up to since he went on his sabbatical. In the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated third season of The Pitt, we got a pretty good look at all of that. From Noah Wyle’s character stepping back into the ER to the disasters that are to come, the tone has been set for Season 3. However, amid all this chaos, there was footage that made me very worried about someone (and it’s not Dr. Robby).

Dr. Robby Is Officially Back In The Pitt After His Sabbatical

Overall, this teaser (which you can see above) makes it abundantly clear that everyone is on edge and anticipating Robby’s return. I’m also theorizing that it might be later than expected based on Abbot’s snide comment about not believing he’s back until he sees it. We know Robby went on a sabbatical, and it was very obvious that multiple characters were worried about him leaving, potentially not returning and having suicidal thoughts after various confrontations in Season 2. Well, now he’s back; he seems OK, but there are still questions about how he’s really doing.

So, yeah, obviously, there’s reason to worry about Robby. Noah Wyle’s character is kind of reckless and a little bit of a loose cannon, even though he’s also the guy who helps run the ER.

I’m More Concerned About Langdon

However, I think I’m more worried about Langdon. Season 2 tracked his first day back at work after being ousted for stealing drugs, and Season 3 will pick up after he’s been back for a few months. I have to say, he does not look good.

First of all, he has a five o’clock shadow, which, to me, implies that he might be off his game, since he’s been clean-shaven for the first two seasons. Along with that, there’s a shot of him looking exhausted in a chair, which tells me he’s not doing great.

Plus, the final moment in this footage is of Langdon saying “Welcome back” to Robby. Wyle’s character says “thanks,” and that’s where we’re left.

As Season 2 ended on the 2026 TV schedule, Langdon confronted Robby and encouraged him to work on himself. I can only hope he’s taken his own advice too, and continued in his recovery during the months between Seasons 2 and 3. However, it seems that he will, at the bare minimum, be having a rough day when we return to The Pitt, and since he was already in a fragile place, I’m anxious.

Plus, with Season 3 taking place in the winter, months after Season 2’s Fourth of July episode, Langdon’s new place in this department should be settled.

Last season, it was clear not everyone knew exactly why he left; he wasn’t feeling as confident as normal, and honestly, he looked a little lost. I don’t think his return was met with open arms, and I really don’t think everyone will be accepting of his comeback (I’m looking at you, Santos) months later, either. So, if he’s spent his time back at work on the outside of this group and trying to get back in, I feel like he could hit another breaking point in Season 3.

So, all this is to say, I’m very concerned about Frank Langdon. And obviously I’m still worried about Robby. However, we’ll have to wait until January of 2027 to see exactly how they’re doing. In the meantime, you can stream the first two seasons of The Pitt with an HBO Max subscription.

One of the standout features of HBO’s The Pitt is its medically gory realism. Season 2 was already a bloody blast on our 2026 TV schedule with graphic trauma cases related to anything that could go medically wrong on the Fourth of July. But of all of the medical effects that are on the hospital-set TV show, I never would have thought that the vomiting scenes would be such a “hard” one to film.

Not only has ER’s Noah Wylie put back on scrubs to play Dr. Robby on The Pitt, but he’s also directed plenty of episodes for the HBO series. With all of the wild medical cases the show has had in its two-season run, the TV actor expressed to The LA Times why vomit was so “hard” to film, and I didn’t see this coming:

A “cannon apparatus” definitely sounds right. After all, vomit in real life does shoot out of your mouth in full force. You don’t always want it to look like someone is just spitting puke out of their mouth.

I’ve got to say, one vomiting scene in season 2 was very hard for me to watch. In episode 6, Dr. Langdon has a patient who was feeling very sick after completing a hot-dog eating contest. And well…you can guess what happened next.

Seeing the vomit explode out of the patient’s mouth into the bucket, as well as the retching sounds, was enough to make me want to puke next. If it made viewers like me sick enough to watch, I’d say it was a mission accomplished for Wylie’s directing.

Before, I used to think a vomit scene would be as simple as making an actor spit up fake vomit from their mouth. However, Wylie explains more to The LA Times about what it takes to perfect projectile vomiting for a TV show:

Wow, I would never have thought of the technical details that come with a fake vomit scene, like the location of the mouth or the need to go through multiple designs. But with the Primetime Emmy winner still not impressed with the final result, it makes me wonder what “Pitt-level impressive” looks like. If that's one day achieved, I’m actually afraid to see that for myself on screen.

You could argue that the graphic realism of The Pitt is almost equal to horror scenes. With “fake body parts” and “animatronic babies” having been featured on the medical drama, even the cast gets weirded out watching those shocking scenes. In terms of creating ideal vomiting, Noah Wylie said he was ready to accept the challenge:

I’m sure it isn’t easy to achieve perfection in a vomiting effect. The Pitt has experienced plenty of challenges that come from portraying the realism of the ER. For example, the messy part of filming surgical procedures when there are so many actors in one shot, or holding expensive fake organs in fear of damaging them. So, creating a perfect vomiting scene as accurately as possible for the camera can clearly come with its own set of pressures to make it look authentic.

You’d never think The Pitt would be dealing with so much stress and precision for a fake vomiting scene. But knowing how much detail is put into each graphic medical mishap is living proof of why this series continues to impress audiences and the Emmys...and even make them sick to their stomachs sometimes. The Pitt is known and acclaimed for its medical accuracy and the way it authentically represents healthcare workers. Now, when Season 3 of the hit medical drama premieres in 2027, it’ll feature a dose of real life in a different way, as Noah Wyle revealed how his arrest inspired a new patient.

Back in 2012, Noah Wyle was protesting potential cuts to Medicaid with ADAPT (the Americans with Disabilities for Attendant Programs Today) on Capitol Hill, per CNN. He and more than 100 others were arrested that day, according to CBS. Now, 14 years later, this situation and the people he met have inspired a story on The Pitt. During an interview with the LA Times, the actor, who is also a writer, producer and director on the medical drama, revealed that after being asked about how he’s “using this spotlight and [his] voice for causes that are important to [him].”

This is honestly so amazing to hear. I’ve always appreciated that The Pitt makes an effort to tell stories about all kinds of people with all sorts of medical histories and conditions. I also love that it sounds like this story will dive into topics surrounding disability advocacy too. What makes it even better is that this guy Wyle was protesting with will play the new patient in Season 3, as the Emmy-winning actor said:

Wyle went on to explain that they flew the man he met at this protest out to set, and he shot for two days. The ER star called him “phenomenal” and spoke to the importance of having him on the show, saying:

It’s inspiring to see how Noah Wyle uses his work to propel his advocacy and vice versa.

Plus, this adds to the representation that The Pitt has made an active effort to have. For example, over the last two seasons, the show has included neurodivergent characters like Mel and her sister Becca. Meanwhile, it’s also tackled issues like the affordability of health care in the United States and the mental health of the doctors working in emergency rooms. Overall, this medical drama works hard to tell a diverse set of stories that capture healthcare in America.

It sounds like Season 3 will keep doing that too, and I cannot wait to see it. I specifically am looking forward to meeting this patient who is inspired and played by a man Wyle met when he was arrested while protesting all those years ago.

However, we’ll have to wait a while to see that, as Season 3 will premiere in early 2027. In the meantime, though, you can stream the first two seasons of The Pitt with an HBO Max subscription.

While The Pitt is praised for how it represents healthcare workers and it received a ton of 2026 Emmy nominations, it’s still subject to criticism. Specifically, fans have not been pleased with the cast exits that have happened every season. So, I'm happy Noah Wyle has been asked about how this critique and negative reaction impact the show and how they make it.

As The Pitt was wrapping up its second season on the 2026 TV schedule, it was announced that Supriya Ganesh would be leaving the show. She played Dr. Samira Mohan, and while she got sweet and supportive messages from fans, it was also clear that many viewers were livid about her departure. During an interview with the LA Times, Wyle, who is the star as well as a writer, director and executive producer on the show, was asked how he navigates a response like this and what he learns from it. Here’s what he had to say:

He makes a fair point; this touchy subject is one of the very few points of negativity surrounding The Pitt. For the most part, the discourse surrounding the show is positive. So, while they should address it, it's also not a topic that should take up all this team's time and energy.

That said, this particular issue has become a sticking point for some fans, because they’ve had to deal with it two seasons in a row, as Tracy Ifeachor’s Dr. Collins left after Season 1, and Dr. Mohan was let go after Season 2. To that point, Wyle addressed fans’ reaction to this, saying:

Overall, big reactions like this one lead to some introspection behind the scenes. While it doesn’t necessarily drive creative decisions, they are taken into account, as the Dr. Robby actor explained:

However, while they have this self-review before a season begins, cast exits are unavoidable. That’s a point that’s been made over and over again, despite how much fans hate it, and it’s something Wyle brought up here, ending his statement with:

Since The Pitt takes place in an emergency room that's in a teaching hospital, realistically there would be a high turnover among the staff. So, from season to season, that means the cast has to change.

So, while they might handle doctors coming and going a smidge differently from season to season, it will keep happening, and we need to brace ourselves for it. In the meantime, you can stream the first two seasons of The Pitt and see these actors we know and love who sadly won’t be back with an HBO Max subscription.

While I fully expected The Pitt to get tons of 2026 Emmy nominations, clearly, the nods were surprising to the cast. Of the 26 total noms the series received, eight actors were recognized in the big acting categories. Five of those eight are first-time nominees, and all of them had funny yet sincere reactions, with one actress in particular not being totally convinced all this was real.

Now, before we get into the reactions, let’s go over the nominations for these actors. Katherine LaNasa, Shawn Hatosy and Noah Wyle, all of whom won last year, were nominated again for their performances as Dana, Abbot and Robby, respectively. Alongside the returning winners, Taylor Dearden (Mel), Fiona Dourif (McKay), Sepideh Moafi (Al-Hashimi), Patrick Ball (Langdon) and Gerran Howell (Whitaker) received their first nominations for their supporting performances in The Pitt.

So, they all reacted to the news, with Fiona Dourif specifically not believing it at first.

Fiona Dourif Didn’t Believe She Got An Emmy Nomination At First

Considering the number of 2025 Emmys won by The Pitt, the acclaim for Season 2 and the sheer popularity of the series on the 2026 TV schedule, lots of 2026 nominations were anticipated. However, the number of actors who got nods was a bit surprising. In fact, Fiona Dourif, who plays Cassie McKay, was so shocked she didn’t believe it at first, as she wrote on Instagram:

Well, that’s both hilarious and very sweet. I also can’t say I blame her. If I were an actor and learned I had gotten my first Emmy nomination, I too would not believe it at first. Thankfully, enough people told Dourif it was real that she eventually believed it. However, the shock she referenced in her post didn't go away, as you can see in the final image of her Instagram post:

Now, while this reaction was my favorite, Dourif’s fellow co-stars and first-time nominees also had some priceless reactions we need to talk about.

Overall, The Pitt cast’s reactions to this news were incredible. They were equal parts wholesome and funny, and overall they were all very grateful for the recognition. To prove that point, here are excerpts from the statements posted by the four other first-time nominees:

Well, this is all so wonderful to see. All these actors, and the entire ensemble of The Pitt, are remarkable, and they’re very deserving of this recognition. I’m thrilled that they’re all so excited about this news, and I was pleasantly surprised by how funny their reactions to it were.

Along with The Pitt’s general praise and multiple Emmy wins and nominations (it got 26 2026 Emmy noms), it’s also highly regarded for its medical accuracy and how it represents healthcare workers. With that in mind, I spoke to writer and executive producer Simran Baidwan about how exactly they make the series so accurate. In response, she told me how “fake body parts,” “animatronic babies,” medical advisors and more make it all possible.

During a conversation with Simran Baidwan about how they make The Pitt, I asked for examples of complex, intense and oftentimes messy medical situations that they pulled off accurately. The writer told me that the mass casualty event in Season 1 was one example, and the other was the intricate birth sequences we’ve seen. Speaking to those specifically, she said:

From a technical standpoint, they use a variety of special effects, props and more to pull off intricate medical sequences. In the case of births and babies, they even use a variety of fake newborns while filming. In the case of Baby Jane Doe, they used multiple real babies throughout Season 2’s production.

Meanwhile, when it comes to writing these scenes and producing them in the most authentic way possible, Baidwan told me that they have Dr. Joe Sachs, Dr. Mel Herbert and Dr. Joshua Troke in their writers' room. In addition to them, there are also real ER doctors and nurses on set in every episode.

So, as scripts are being written, writers will make note of topics they want to cover – like adding a death doula to the story in Baidwan’s case – and then they go to the experts. Explaining that process, and the resources The Pitt uses to make sure it's medically correct, she said:

When they get to set, that’s when the onset medical advisors come into play. They help coordinate and map out sequences. As Simran Baidwan said, shooting The Pitt is like doing a ballet, because it’s so complex and technical. However, it’s also controlled chaos. So, the medical advisors help them figure out how to make it all look not only accurate but natural:

She concluded by saying making The Pitt is an “incredible team effort,” and all this certainly proves that point. From props to people, this show uses a bunch of techniques and checkpoints to make sure what’s eventually available to stream with an HBO Max subscription is medically valid.

Before Season 2 of The Pitt even ended on the 2026 TV schedule, there was chatter about who would be leaving and who would be clocking back in for Season 3. While we knew Mohan wouldn’t return and Ellis would be working a day shift, there were still a lot of questions surrounding the cast. Well, now, Season 3’s ensemble has been confirmed, and the list left me with a question about my favorite character.

The Pitt Confirmed Its Season 3 Cast

To announce that Season 3 of The Pitt has gone into production, HBO Max shared a video of the characters’ IDs. Essentially, this served as confirmation for who is coming back for a shift in The Pitt, and you can take a look at the cast below:

Now, notably, that list is written in the order the characters are revealed in the video, which you can see above. The last name it showed was Dr. Jack Abbot. Other than him, almost everyone else on this list has always worked day shift. The only exception is Dr. Ellis, who we knew would be working a double shift during Season 3 before Season 2 ended. So, that leaves me with a big question about how much we’ll be seeing the leader of the night crawlers.

Will Dr. Jack Abbot Be Working The Day Shift?

While we’ve been yearning for a Night Shift spinoff, and Shawn Hatosy himself has said he’d be down, it would seem we’ll be seeing more of him in the daytime come Season 3. Seeing as he was the last name featured in this cast announcement and everyone else is a regular on the show, it stands to reason that he’ll be in a lot of episodes when we clock in early next year.

Now, we don’t know for sure if he’ll be a full-time regular. However, I feel like this video tells us that Dr. Abbot will be around for quite a bit of Season 3. So, will he be in all 15 episodes? Is he working a double shift? We know Season 3 will take place in the winter, so does some winter-related emergency keep him in the ER past the end of his shift? I can’t wait to learn these answers, and I really hope Abbot is in every episode of The Pitt’s junior season.

For context, the number of episodes that have featured Abbot has gone up season after season. He was in five episodes of Season 1 and then six episodes of Season 2. During its sophomore season, the show found a way to bring the attending in for a handful of afternoon-set episodes before he clocked in for his own shift. So, I’m looking forward to seeing what reason he has for being in The Pitt during the day.

So, now the wait is really on. We know who will be working the ER in Season 3, and I desperately need to know why Abbot will be there and if he’ll be around for the full shift. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too long, because The Pitt should be back in early 2027. In the meantime, you can stream the first two seasons with an HBO Max subscription.

After spending 15 years playing Dr. John Carter in ER, Noah Wyle returned to his TV genre roots by way of The Pitt. Since the show premiered in 2025, fans have been enthused to see Wyle back in scrubs for HBO Max’s hit medical drama. With all of the Emmy attention and praise that the hospital-set show is receiving, it's fair to wonder just how long the show might last. Wyle, for his part, just weighed in on whether the should could run 15 seasons like his previous medical-based series.

Noah Wyle plays the role of Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch on the series, and he's received acclaim (and won a Primetime Emmy) for his work. It goes without saying that this has been a strong TV medical drama comeback for Wyle. Given all of the success the show has generated, actress Sally Field asked Wyle on Variety’s Actors on Actors if he could see the show running for 15 years like ER (on which the two actors appeared together). Wyle isn't so bullish for a good reason:

I can understand the Falling Skies actor’s reasoning, especially given how complex the show is. There's also a major level intensity to the show, for which each season is set over the course of a single shift. All in all, actors have to be all in when working on that series, and I can understand 55-year-old Wyle possibly not wanting to do it long term. It's ironic that this is even a conversation now, given there was a time when he “turned (his) nose up” at a TV career and thought ER wouldn’t last. But hey, we all know how that turned out.

Comments that Wyle has shared about making The Pitt, though, seem to suggest that he finds the experience quite rewarding. He may not be keen on playing Dr. Robby for over a decade, but there are a few variables that keep him going while he's on set. He explained:

I won't disagree with him about this, as The Pitt truly has incredibly talented stars and a great crew, who've helped make the Philadelphia-set hospital show the groundbreaking piece of work that it is. Honestly, it's no wonder Wyle feels incredibly lucky to be where he is professionally.

We may not have a guarantee that the award-winning series could have the same run as ER, but we do know it’s already been renewed for Season 3. There will be some changes with those new episodes, as Supriya Ganesh won't return as Dr. Samira Mohan. Also, Shabana Azeez's Victoria Javadi is leaving the ER for other medical rotations. Still, Wyle has a great group of people around him, and I'm excited for however long he and his colleagues continue to make the series.

The Pitt Season 3 is expected to premiere in January 2027. In the meantime, do yourself a favor and stream the first two seasons using an HBO Max subscription.

The Pitt wrapped up its second season this past April on the 2026 TV schedule, and fans can already rest assured knowing the third season is in the works. Season 3 is set to premiere in 2027, and will take place in November, just months after the chaotic Fourth of July shift. The ensemble will look a bit different, as Supriya Ganesh will not be back as Dr. Samira Mohan. Now, another star has confirmed that at least one more character will be absent from the ER, and I have some questions.

Who Is Leaving The PTMC ER?

The Emmy-winning medical drama, which streaming with an HBO Max subscription, has already said goodbye to a couple of fan-favorites since premiering in 2025. Even though Mohan’s departure is so far the only one planned ahead of Season 3, fans should expect at least one more character to be absent, just not as permanent. Shabana Azeez, who plays Victoria Javadi, told Bustle what her character will be up to in the upcoming season, and it’s a big change:

It’s a requirement for med students to do different rotations in the hospital, so Javadi doing a psych rotation is not so surprising. That being said, it sounds like it’s going to be a big leap for both her and Azeez. This is an interesting story development, especially with Javadi not entirely being sure about being an ER doctor in the first place. Of course, she’s been able to handle herself with the two shifts fans have seen her work, so I have no doubt she’ll be able to get through this next rotation. Nevertheless, there are some key variables to ponder here.

The Questions I Have About This Next Rotation

Since The Pitt centers solely on the ER, I'm wondering just how much fans will see of Javadi moving forward. It’s entirely possible that she and her attending or resident at the time could be called down to the ER to help with a patient, which could take up a few hours in the third season. But, then again, there's no guarantee of that. Considering she’s been thinking a lot about what kind of path she wants to go down after med school, I'm eager to see how this turns out for her, and if her parents will continue to have an influence on her.

Another question I have is whether Azeez will be demoted to recurring status for Season 3, given her character's new position. Right now, there's been no confirmation of that, and she is still credited as a series regular, as of this writing. At the very least, I would hope that Azeez would appear in at least half of next season.

If anything, it sounds like the producers will have had some big decisions to make, or they've likely already made them. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and remain optimistic that Shabana Azeez's Javadi will still play a solid role within the series moving forward.

The Pitt Season 3 won’t be premiering until January 2027, so there is still a long time to wait and see what will happen with Javadi. So, in the meantime, catch up on the show by streaming the first two seasons with an HBO Max subscription.

The Pitt doesn't have any more medical emergencies set to shake up the 2026 TV schedule, but there is going to be much more on the way. A third season of the Emmy-winning medical drama will premiere in early 2027, and most fan-favorites will be returning, including Shawn Hatosy. Or should we say, Shawn Hawt-Osy. Since the HBO Max hit premiered, he’s become a bit of a sex symbol, and while he wasn’t initially ready for that public reaction, he isn't shying away from it either.

Fans have been happily thirsting over Hatosy’s Dr. Jack Abbot, and have been on the night shift spinoff train for both him and the rest of PTMC’s ER night staff. Hatosy, who won his first Emmy last year for The Pitt, is arguably one of the best parts of the show due to Abbot’s personality, quick wit, and command of the ER. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s quite the silver fox, and a Season 2 shirtless scene made the rounds on social media. Ever the humble actor, Hatosy told Variety how he really feels about his status, which is still settling in for him:

Hatosy has been in the industry for a while, and he’s definitely been good-looking the entire time. But with The Pitt, it seems there’s just something about him playing a doctor, who’s a military veteran and has a thing for a fellow doctor that just gets to people. Additionally, his status on The Pitt has opened some new and unexpected doors for him.

On the heels of the second season, which wrapped in April, it was announced around that time that he’d be starring in a two-episode immersive audio romance for Quinn, the popular audio erotica app. Per THR, Yes, Chef is the app’s latest Original series, in which the Animal Kingdom star plays a seasoned executive chef named Grant Reilly. With Quinn, he’s been able to become more confident as a “sex symbol,” and really wanting to do more with the title:

While a night shift spinoff of The Pitt is unlikely, fans will probably be seeing more of Hatosy in the third season. It’s hard to tell what exactly will be in store for Abbot in the new season, and if anything will beat his shirtless scene that evidently had 25 takes for Noah Wyle, I’m looking forward to the possibilities. It’s sad to know that Abbot and Mohan will no longer be working together following Supriya Ganesh’s exit, but that doesn’t mean the characters can’t continue their blossoming relationship off-screen.

Meanwhile, Hatosy is one of the many silver foxes these days known as a sex symbol. Law & Order’s Christopher Meloni has fully embraced his Zaddy title, so it’s only a matter of time before Hatosy is on the same wavelength. Fans can see the sex symbol himself with both seasons of The Pitt streaming with an HBO Max subscription.

Noah Wyle swept awards season with his role as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in the first season of The Pitt, and he feels poised to do it again now that the second season has completed on the 2026 TV schedule. The series marked his return to the medical drama genre since starring as Dr. John Carter on ER, and it’s been so great seeing him back in scrubs. However, since he’s been playing a doctor for so long, he made a wild claim about his medical knowledge, and fans can’t decide if he’s joking.

What Noah Wyle Said About His Level Of Medical Knowledge

Between his work on ER and The Pitt, Wyle has been working on medical shows for close to two decades. Plus, his mom was an ER nurse for a long time. So, yes, I'm sure he knows a lot of medical information. However, he's not a doctor, despite what some people seem to think. To that point, while speaking with Vanity Fair, Wyle recalled a fan wanting him to look at an incision following a surgery. While he admitted they were "all playing games" when it came to people thinking he was a real doctor, he also said this when asked about the actual amount of medical knowledge he has:

He has spent a lot of time on hospital-set shows, so he definitely knows quite a lot. Of course, it’s not the same as actually being a doctor. He also seems to have a lot of people coming up to him about things only a doctor would know, and he even gave some fans a physical exam at a charity auction last month, per Variety. That being said, I would assume Wyle is likely joking with his comments about medical knowledge, but fans aren’t too sure.

Fans Of The Pitt Can't Figure Out If Noah Wyle Is Joking

Since Wyle is known for being a bit serious, with the medical boot camp The Pitt cast goes through and the no phones on set rule he started, it can be hard to figure out whether or not he truly is joking about his medical expertise. After his quote was shared online, a discourse started about whether he was serious or not about having the knowledge of a third-year medical student, and there’s a range of opinions about it:

Considering the full interview, or at the very least the part of the interview where he was talking about being recognized as a doctor and playing games, wasn’t shared, a lot of fans were not too fond of what Wyle was saying about his medical knowledge. The Emmy winner has a lot of respect for doctors and nurses, so his truly saying he thinks he has the knowledge of a third-year med student is hard to believe, meaning it’s possible this comment is all just for fun.

Additionally, what he said is basically on the same wavelength as someone saying they’re a doctor after all the seasons of Grey’s Anatomy or ER they’ve seen. Unfortunately, it’s harder to decipher tone in an interview that’s only on paper rather than in a video. Regardless, if you want to see Noah Wyle play a fictional doctor, all 15 seasons of ER and both seasons of The Pitt are streaming with an HBO Max subscription. Season 3 of The Pitt will start airing in early 2027.

Noah Wyle might not think a night shift spinoff of The Pitt is a great idea, but fans (myself included) still really, really want it. So, with that in mind, when I interviewed one of the show’s writers, I had to ask for her take on the potential for the night crawlers to get their own show.

Simran Baidwan has been a writer and executive producer on The Pitt since Season 1, and when I spoke to her about Season 2 and what’s to come, I also asked about what fans want. Specifically, I asked her how she felt about the growing discourse surrounding a potential night shift spinoff. In response, she said:

Well, you heard her, this choice is in the hands of showrunner and creator R. Scott Gemmill. And for all you night shift supporters out there, that’s not a great sign. He told EW that while it’s fun to see the night crawlers in The Pitt, a spinoff about them is “not our show.”

So, while Shawn Hatosy, who plays Abbot, is all for the night shift getting a show, the guys who make the big decisions behind the scenes aren’t so sold on it. Therefore, at least for now, don’t get your hopes up for a full-blown spinoff. However, do get your hopes up for more night shift showing up in Season 3 of The Pitt.

That’s because earlier in the interview, I also talked to the writer about the potential role the night shift could play in Season 3. We already know Ellis is going full-time in the daytime for this upcoming cycle. So, I asked how they decide when to bring these beloved characters into each shift. In response, Baidwan said:

How exciting! In Season 2, which you can stream in full with an HBO Max subscription, we got to see the night’s charge nurse, Lena, earlier in the season because she was Roxie’s death doula. Meanwhile, Abbot showed up mid-season because he was on a SWAT call that ended with people getting injured. I didn’t expect either of those appearances, and it makes me very excited to see how they work the night shift into the November-set season that’s coming up.

While the night shift won’t get their own show, at least they’ll still play an important role in The Pitt. It also sounds like it's perfectly possible for them to show up outside their shift handoffs, too. So, while I’ll keep hope alive that someday Shawn Hatosy and co. will get to lead their own spinoff of The Pitt, I’ll be looking forward to seeing them return in Season 3.

The Pitt fans are passionate about a lot of things, but since Season 2 aired on the 2026 TV schedule, they’ve been extra vocal about wanting a Night Shift spinoff. However, sadly, it’s highly unlikely that this dream will become a reality, as Noah Wyle explained why he doesn't think a Pitt spinoff will happen. And while I understand his reasoning, I have to respectfully, but passionately, disagree.

What Noah Wyle Said About A Night Shift Spinoff

The passion for the Night Crawlers is real, and because of it, the desire for a Night Shift spinoff is strong. However, Noah Wyle has maintained that he does not think we need it. On the A Lot More podcast, he explained this, saying that one viewer called him “aggressively annoying and patronizing and pretentious” because of his take on not making a spinoff of The Pitt. However, after that, he maintained:

Wyle kept explaining why he thinks this is the case. First of all, we know The Pitt is all about accuracy and realism. With that in mind, the Robby actor said:

I do think that makes sense. When most of the world is asleep, there are likely to be fewer disasters that need medical attention.

Along with that, from a show perspective, Wyle does not want to give audiences too much of The Pitt. Further explaining that point, the Emmy winner said:

To an extent, I get what he’s saying. You don’t want too much of a good thing. However, I don’t think we'd get burnt out on The Pitt with a spinoff.

Why I Don’t Agree With Noah Wyle At All

I’ve been an advocate for a Night Shift spinoff since I met Abbot, Shen and Ellis while watching Season 1 with an HBO Max subscription. They are such fascinating characters who are so different from the day shift team, and I would think that putting them at the center of a spinoff would create something quite different from what we see on The Pitt.

Thankfully, Shawn Hatosy, who plays Abbot, is a fan of this Night Shift idea. He illustrated why it’s a good idea perfectly, too, telling Parade:

Through The Pitt, we’ve gotten to meet the team that runs the ER at night, and all I can think when we learn something new about one of them is "Man, I really wish we could spend more time with them." So, there’s no doubt in my mind that Abbot, Shen and Ellis could easily lead their own show.

Now, I get Wyle’s point about this shift being “a lot less wild.” However, I have to assume that when the Night Shift does get patients, they’re potentially wilder than Day Shift’s. I mean, if you’re going to the ER at 2 a.m., something super serious must have happened.

Anyway, to hammer home that idea, allow me to quote Dr. Abbot, who said the following during Season 2:

Abbot goes on to say that “tonight they are really gonna be crawling,” because it was the Fourth of July (and, you know, fireworks…). I have to assume nights like that or Halloween have to get crazier than the Day Shift. So, I do feel like we could get a full and entertaining season of this shift if they picked their day carefully.

Therefore, while I know Noah Wyle’s points are valid, I also think a Night Shift spinoff of The Pitt would work so well. So, I do have to disagree with him.

Ever since Season 2 of The Pitt came to an end on the 2026 TV schedule, I’ve been wondering what happened to Robby and Baby Jane Doe. When I finished watching the series, I had thought there was a chance Noah Wyle’s character would take the baby home, and he'd become a dad. However, I was also debating with myself about how realistic that really was. Well, now Noah Wyle himself has weighed in on all this, explaining exactly what he thinks happened to Baby Jane Doe.

Now, Wyle is aware that the internet has thoughts about Baby Jane Doe, and a lot of viewers think Robby took her home. Well, that’s not what happened, as the 2025 Emmy-winner explained on A Lot More:

This sentiment of Robby’s not keeping the baby has been communicated by the show’s creator, R. Scott Gemmill, too. And it makes sense. Considering the fact that Robby was having suicidal thoughts this season and was very clearly struggling with his mental health, he’s not in a place to raise a child. I think he needs to spend some time healing himself before he’s responsible for another human. Or as Noah Wyle said, “You don’t throw a drowning man a baby.”

Later in the podcast, he was asked again about the baby and what happened to her, too. He reiterated that she did not go home with Robby; he’s not a new dad. However, he does believe that Baby Jane Doe is in good hands:

So, if Baby Jane Doe isn’t with Robby, will we get an update about her? She was very important to Season 2, and thanks to how Dana said her name, the internet developed a deep love for the child. With all that in mind, the ER actor did say that they would probably give us an update about the newborn in Season 3:

Well, when we clock in for Season 3 of The Pitt, it sounds like we will probably get an update about Baby Jane Doe. The season will take place in November, about four months after the events of Season 2, which took place on the Fourth of July. So, I’d hope we get an update that includes where the baby ended up and how her early months of life are going.

In Season 2, we did get a small update about where Dr. Collins went after her exit in Season 1. So, maybe we'll get something similar about Baby Jane Doe in Season 3.

However, we’ll have to wait a bit longer for that, because The Pitt’s third season will likely premiere in early 2027. So, in the meantime, you can go back and watch this baby’s story unfold (while also hearing Dana say “Baby Jane Doe!”) by streaming Season 2 of The Pitt with an HBO Max subscription.

The Pitt’s second season wrapped on the 2026 TV schedule in April, so fans are now looking forward to Season 3. While there is a lot to get excited about, fans are also a bit sad because the series will be down at least one doctor. It was previously revealed that Supriya Ganesh is leaving the series as Dr. Samira Mohan, and her comments about the fan reactions have me even more bummed.

When Ganesh’s departure was announced, fans did not take it very well. Samira is definitely a fan-favorite, and viewers did not hold back their strong feelings about the choice not to have her clock in for Season 3. Noah Wyle explained why the departure was necessary, saying that shaking the cast up every season is inevitable, because staff turnover in hospitals is high. But that doesn’t make her exit hurt any less. Ganesh spoke to Variety about all of this and the fan reactions to it, and she said it got to a point where the love and support were overwhelming:

I have been so sad ever since finding out that Dr. Mohan will no longer be on The Pitt, and knowing that Ganesh has seen what everyone has been saying about her and her character just bums me out even more. The fact that the fans’ love and support are what will make Ganesh miss being on the series makes me emotional.

It also doesn’t help that The Pitt’s Season 2 finale left Mohan’s future up in the air. She had been deciding on which career path to take once her residency ends, but with Season 3 presumably picking up only a few months after Season 2’s Fourth of July shift, she’ll still be in her final year of residency. So the fact that there is still so much story to tell with her and she won’t even be included in the third season is a serious bummer.

Of course, with PTMC being a teaching hospital, it makes sense that doctors and nurses would be rotating in and out, especially since a single season only takes place over the course of a single shift. There are a lot of reasons that can be given as to why someone isn’t included in a season, whether they’ve left the hospital, aren’t on shift, or won’t be in until later. But whatever the reason, fans were not happy about Mohan being cut, and I’m right there with them.

It’s always possible that Season 2 won’t be the last that fans see of Dr. Samira Mohan, and I genuinely hope that Ganesh is able to lock something new down soon because I already miss seeing her on my screen. For those needing a Mohan fix, both seasons of The Pitt are streaming with an HBO Max subscription.

Noah Wyle is continuing to dominate television with the critically acclaimed Emmy-winning HBO Max drama The Pitt, which recently wrapped up its second season on the 2026 TV schedule. The show marks his return to the medical drama genre, following his role as Dr. John Carter on ER, which ended in 2009 after 15 seasons. While the role shot him to superstardom, there were rumors that he auditioned for fellow ‘90s NBC series Friends, and Wyle had an A+ reaction to that speculation.

Coincidentally, there are a couple of fun connections between Friends and ER. The two shows premiered in 1994, just days apart on the same network. Friends has a character named Rachel Green, one of the main friends played by Jennifer Aniston, while ER has a character named Rachel Greene, the daughter of Anthony Edwards’ Dr. Mark Greene, who is played by various child actors throughout the show’s run.

For some reason, fans also got the idea that another connection was made thanks to Wyle, thinking that, before landing Carter, he auditioned for David Schwimmer’s Ross Geller. That was not actually the case. Before ER, he actually turned his nose up at having a TV career, and his response to Variety regarding potentially auditioning for Friends is pretty great:

The fact that Wyle was so against doing television until he got ER, and the fact that that’s mostly what he’s done throughout his career, is pretty hilarious. It’s even more hilarious knowing that he actually went on to appear in Friends. Wyle and George Clooney guest-starred as doctors, different from Dr. John Carter and Dr. Doug Ross from ER, during the first season of Friends. It was likely a way for NBC to put eyes on both shows, which were just starting out, but it turned into a pretty memorable episode. And it makes me so happy that Wyle changed his tune about television.

Even though Wyle confirms that he never auditioned for Friends, it does make me wonder just how different things would be had that happened and he got the role of Ross. Friends and ER would be wildly different shows, and Schwimmer and Wyle would have wildly different careers. We probably wouldn’t have The Pitt, we wouldn’t have a lot of other shows and movies, too. It’s hard to imagine anyone else playing Ross and Carter, so I’m glad things ultimately worked out for both of them, especially Wyle.

So, with all that said and done, fans can look forward to a show that Wyle is definitely in, and that’s The Pitt. The show may be done with Season 2, but Season 3 is already on the way. The upcoming season will be streaming with an HBO Max subscription in early 2027, and considering the way that Season 2 ended, there is going to be a lot to catch up on, depending on how far ahead the time jump will be. Both seasons of The Pitt, as well as all seasons of Friends, are streaming on HBO Max.

When it comes to the medical drama genre, I'd argue that few actors have as much experience as Noah Wyle. The Emmy-winning actor portrayed Dr. John Carter for nearly 15 seasons on ER. Now, despite his initial desire to stay away from the genre, he is on the critically acclaimed HBO Max hit The Pitt, which just wrapped up its second season as part of the 2026 TV schedule. So, as a veteran of the genre, Wyle has acquired a lot of skills, including the ideal way to don his gloves. And I'm surprised how that led to a perfect prank.

There was a 15-year gap between the end of ER and the start of The Pitt, so it’s been so nice to see Wyle back in the scrubs. It feels as if nothing has changed, including the ability to put on gloves. Shabana Azeez, who plays medical student Victoria Javadi, spoke to People about her co-star's impeccable way of putting on gloves, which can actually be pretty tedious at times:

Considering Wyle’s experience, it makes sense that he'd have a knack for putting on medical gloves. That’s just one attribute that sets him apart from his co-stars, and sometimes for the wrong reasons. Azees recalled a harmless. but fun prank, she pulled on Wyle, who plays Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, and she ended up ruining a take because of it:

The Pitt is known to have a serious set, as there have been reports of Wyle banning cell phones, excluding the social team, and putting in a library so cast and crew can read rather than spend time on their phones. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t still fun to be had when the cameras aren’t rolling. In Yet, Azeez’s case, it can also happen when the cameras are rolling and, while I wouldn't have expected such a prank to initiated on set, I Iove it!

However, that joke still caused a bit of concern on Azees' part, as she truly believed her antics would spell the end for Victoria Jivadi. She also said:

Considering Javadi is still a big part of The Pitt, it can be assumed that the prank wasn't viewed as being super detrimental. Since it's part of a take, I would love to see the prank in a blooper reel should HBO opt to release one. I'd also like to get Wyle's thought on that prank. All in all, though, if the TikToks from HBO are any indication, the set of The Pitt definitely isn't as serious as the developments occurring within the film.

More behind-the-scenes hijinks may ensue, since The Pitt is returning for Season 3 in early 2027. I'd be curious as to whether someone else might try to pull one over on Noah Wyle amid filming or if he'll turn the tables on any of his co-stars. For now, though, both seasons of the acclaimed medical drama are streamable with an HBO Max subscription.

Despite any and all amounts of fan-wishing and medical-drama voodoo going on behind the scenes, The Pitt Season 2 didn’t deliver any massive ER reunions to the 2026 TV schedule for star Noah Wyle, though there’s always Season 3. (And presumably an endless number of hugely popular seasons after that.) Still, maybe don’t put all your eggs in the “George Clooney cameo” basket after the actor responded to Wyle’s amusingly brutal comments about his former co-star.

This back-and-forth began some months ago, when Clooney graciously (if not entirely realistically) said in an interview that he’d reunite with Wyle on screen “in a heartbeat.” The Pitt star had a sardonic response, saying the Jay Kelly star might do it in “his final heartbeat,” with Wyle pointing out that the Oscar winner wasn’t so high on teaming up during the quieter years before The Pitt became so massively popular.

Most recently, George Clooney was asked by Yahoo Entertainment about making a potential pitt-stop appearance on the HBO Max series, and he seemed far less open to the idea, while phrasing it iin a way that put the onus back on Wyle. Here’s how he put it, via Yahoo’s Instagram post:

That’s true by all means, though I don’t think fans want to see Clooney on The Pitt because they think it’s lacking in star power or convincing performances. The medical drama’s cast has racked up awards wins and nominations, and not even the major exits that went down each season have derailed anything. Bringing the Batman and Robin star into the mix at this point in the game might just be more distracting than advantageous, though I can imagine ways to pull it off.

For one, I think it would be great to bring Clooney in as some kind of a harsh administrator who isn’t there to gain any friendships or woo any women. The actor always plays very successfully into his charming nature, but I’d love to see him be more of a monster at least once. Second, I think he’d be great as a patient whose face and identity are completely obscured, so that the performance can speak for itself without Clooney’s handsome mug being a distraction.

In any case, the Oceans franchise lead didn’t want to come across as if there was bad blood behind the scenes, and point out that the core ER squad have remained friends throughout the years, saying:

To be fair, George Clooney also turned down a return to one of the TV shows that originally put him on the map, Roseanne, when it was revived (and then morphed into The Conners). So it's not just Wyle and The Pitt that he's aiming to avoid.

Maybe if The Pitt makes that night-shift spinoff happen, Clooney could return to hospital duds to head up that show without any worries about taking the spotlight away from Wyle. Or maybe he'll just continue being rich and comfortable choosing his own projects that aren't as hectic as weekly episode tapings.

Well, another shift in The Pitt is over, and we’ve clocked out for the season. However, I haven’t stopped thinking about the show since it closed out its second season on the 2026 TV schedule. In fact, there are three specific questions that I’ve been pondering for a while now that I need Season 3 to answer, so let’s break them down.

What's Going On With Robby And Baby Jane Doe?

When The Pitt’s Season 2 finale ended, my first question was: Will Robby become a dad? He’d spoken about thinking he’d have kids by now, and he was very sweet with Baby Jane Doe at the end of the episode.

Well, the answer to that question is decidedly no, as the show’s creator R. Scott Gemmill told TV Line. However, he also explained that there might be more to explore with that baby:

Now, Robby’s reckless behavior with his motorcycle and his confrontations in Season 2 showed us that he might be thinking about suicide. It’s obvious he was not in a good place mentally this season, and it seemed like he might never return from his sabbatical. However, after that final interaction with the baby, it seemed like he figured out how to believe that life is worth living again.

So, the question now becomes: Will Baby Jane Doe stay in his life somehow, and how will this storyline (whether we see the baby again or not) impact him and his return to work in Season 3?

Will Al-Hashimi Be Reported?

After a full season of wondering what Dr. Al-Hashimi was hiding, it’s revealed in the finale (which you can stream with an HBO Max subscription) that she has a history of seizures and that she had two during her shift in The Pitt. She tells Robby this information, and he freaks out, saying that she’s “not fully capable” of running the department, and she knows it. He also told her:

Speaking about how Dr. Robby reacted to her medical condition, Sepideh Moafi, who plays Al-Hashimi, told TV Line:

That leaves me wondering if she’s been reported for this. We know she’s expected to be in Season 3, but the extent of her involvement is unknown. Hopefully, when we see her again, we’ll get a bit more clarity on what happened and how it impacted her role in the ED.

Where Did Mohan Go?

A few weeks before The Pitt’s second season ended, it was revealed that Supriya Ganesh would not be back as Dr. Mohan in Season 3. Noah Wyle explained that this choice was made because it’s not realistic to keep the cast the same from season to season. ERs and teaching hospitals have high staff turnovers, therefore the show does too.

So, I started to wonder where Mohan will go after her time in Pittsburgh. In Season 2, there was talk about New Jersey (though that hope seemed dashed), and it was recommended that she look into geriatrics as a specialty. It turns out, when Season 3 returns, she won’t be in The Pitt because Gemmill said, “she’s just not working that day.”

While that technically answers my question, I need more than that. If Mohan isn’t returning after Season 3 either, I’d like an answer about what she did after her time in the emergency room. They gave us that with Dr. Collins this season, and Mohan deserves it next season, too.

Those are all the big questions I have going into Season 3 of The Pitt. Odds are it will premiere in early 2027, so we shouldn't have to wait too long to clock in for another shift. Hopefully, when it’s time to return to the ED, we get some answers.

In just two seasons, The Pitt has established itself as a HBO show that got the world talking. The second season of the medical drama (which is streaming with a HBO Max subscription) recently wrapped, with fans still reeling from the Season 2 finale. And while Bryan Cranston's daughter Taylor Dearden stars as fan favorite Dr. King, it turns out there's another Breaking Bad connection to the series. And my mind is officially blown.

Some fans out there are hoping Bryan Cranston appears on The Pitt at some point, even if one of the EPS shot down that idea. He's become synonymous with his outstanding performance as Walter White, but it turns out another Breaking Bad star actually showed up in Season 2. Namely Charles Baker, who played Skinny Pete throughout the series as well as El Camino (both of which are streaming with a Netflix subscription). The actor posted about his time on the Emmy-winning drama over on his Facebook, as you can see below:

Well, I'm shook. Despite being a Breaking Bad fan, I didn't clock that this was the same actor who played Skinny Pete. Although he did spend his first few episodes as Digby covered in dirt, so maybe I should give myself some grace. Still, it's mind-blowing that there's this second connection to the AMC drama, and I'm not the only one.

While some fans might have recognized Charles Baker when he popped up in The Pitt's second season, there are plenty of folks who were surprised like me. The comments section of the actor's post has some of those fan reactions, which read:

• I like to think Digby was Skinny Pete trying to get his life back together.
• We see you, Skinny Pete.
• Yo! Skinny in the house!
• Didn’t realize he was sneeky pete on breaking bad

Same, though. I love the top comment in particular, which creates a fan-made shared universe connecting Breaking Bad with The Pitt. Although that would mean that Skinny Pete fell on some hard times and eventually became unhoused. But in the end Mr. Digby got the last laugh when he stole Whitaker's badge and a medical training dummy.

While not a leading character, Skinny Pete was a great supporting presence throughout Breaking Bad's run on TV. He was one of Jesse's friends, and a low-level meth dealer in Albuquerque. As a reminder, you can see a compilation of Pete and Badger below:

Pete and Badger were endlessly loyal to Jesse Pinkman throughout the series, as well as El Camino, and remain fan favorites years later. I have to wonder if we'll see more of Digby in future seasons of The Pitt; the way he was treated with care and dignity by Dana Evans was just one of the many emotionally gripping plot lines from Season 2.

The Pitt has come to a close on the 2026 TV schedule, and the day shift has clocked out. Now, it’s the night shift’s turn to run the ED; however, we sadly won’t get to see that on our screens. Fans desperately want to see it, though, as the cry for a night shift spinoff has gotten louder and louder. Now, Noah Wyle and The Pitt’s creator have shared their feelings on the potential for a second series set in the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.

While it felt like The Pitt might be setting up a spinoff, and Shawn Hatosy, who plays the leader of the night shift, Dr. Jack Abbot, has shared his love for the idea, don’t get your hopes up. That’s because when showrunner and creator R. Scott Gemmill was asked about doing a show about the night shift by EW, he said:

He went on to explain that the night shift is very important to The Pitt, because they are “used as a transition to show that the ER never stops.” While that makes sense, it’s also a reason why I want to see a spinoff. I want to watch all 24 hours of work.

However, I do understand what he’s saying; they are focused on the day shift. Noah Wyle, who not only plays Dr. Robby but also serves as an executive producer, writer and director on the show, reiterated that point too during an interview with Deadline, noting:

Well, that’s not a no, so it’s not impossible. However, between these two comments, I do think we need to give up on our night shift dream (at least for now).

Of course, I was bummed to hear this. I would like to see what happens between when Shen walks in with his Dunkin and when he finishes his coffee. However, we just won’t be getting that. So, we’ll have to take the night crawlers where we can get them, and that’s at the start and end of a season of The Pitt.

That’s going to change a bit in Season 3, though. That’s because Ayesha Harris, who plays Dr. Parker Ellis, will be working a day shift in the upcoming episodes. So, we’ll get to see a staple part of the night crawlers during the day, and that’s very exciting.

Along with her working a double shift, I also feel relatively confident they’ll find a way to get characters like Shen and Abbot into the show in unexpected ways. During Season 1, they were heavily featured during the final few episodes because they were helping with the mass casualty event as their shift started. Then, in Season 2, Shawn Hatosy’s character appeared midseason because he had to bring someone who had been shot during a mission he was on to the hospital.

All this is to say, while we might not get a show devoted solely to the night shift, I do feel confident we’ll still get to see a fair amount of them in Season 3. We know it will be set in the winter, maybe November, and I’m hopeful that the conditions could give the night crawlers a reason to spend more time in the emergency department.

However, don’t get it twisted, while I’ve accepted these comments and know the chances of a night shift spinoff are slim, I still have hope that it could happen someday. In the meantime, I’ll be preparing to clock in for our third shift in The Pitt by streaming the first two seasons with an HBO Max subscription.

It’s not a surprise that Dr. Mohan left The Pitt. It was announced weeks ago that Supriya Ganesh would be departing the series after Season 2 ended on the 2026 TV schedule. However, what did surprise me was where she’ll be when Season 3 picks back up.

Over and over, it’s been reiterated that since the hospital is a teaching hospital and the show follows doctors in the emergency department, high staff turnover is bound to happen. Noah Wyle made that clear while discussing Ganesh’s departure, and it’s why Dr. Collins left after Season 1. That’s part of the reason why Mohan is leaving, and that’s partially highlighted through her struggles at work in Season 2, as creator R. Scott Gemmill told TV Line:

So, interesting points were made here. Season 3 will only jump a few months ahead to November. That is partially because they wanted to keep most of the current cast around. With that being the case, why was Mohan the one to go?

Considering how burnt out she was at the end of Season 2, and the challenges she faced both personally and professionally, I could see why she’d want to go. Plus, with multiple people talking to her about possibly going into geriatrics, I thought she could leave for that reason, too.

However, in this report, the journalist noted that since Season 3 will take place four months after Season 2, in November, Mohan would “still be in the final year of her residency.” So, that led them to ask if “she’s not on shift” during the day we’ll be seeing next. It turns out that’s exactly what will be happening, as Gemmill said:

So, she just has the day off? I really thought the answer to her departure would be more life-changing than that. I get that doctors have time off, and one day’s staff won’t look like the next day’s. Therefore, a reason like this is logical. However, I’m still in shock that that’s why Dr. Mohan won’t be in Season 3 at all.

On the bright side, this potentially leaves the door open for her to come back. If her character stays in Pittsburgh and she decides to stay in emergency medicine, it’d be lovely to see Mohan back in The Pitt. Plus, if the show gets a Season 4, who knows how much time will pass between shifts? Maybe it will still take place during her residency.

When it comes to Season 3, though, she’ll be taking the day off, which means we won’t see her in the next 15 episodes. However, you can go back and see her in Seasons 1 and 2 on HBO Max.

While The Pitt is a critically acclaimed, Emmy-winning series that fans adore, one thing about it that has caused backlash is its consistent cast changes. After Season 1, one doctor did not return to the ER, and the same thing will happen again after Season 2 ends on the 2026 TV schedule. Sadly, that’s the nature of The Pitt, and after Noah Wyle made that clear, one of the show’s stars shared a concerning one-word response.

Following the announcement that Supriya Ganesh would not be back as Dr. Mohan in Season 3, Wyle, who is the star of the show as well as an executive producer, writer and director, explained that cast shakeups like this are necessary. That's because in a teaching hospital there is high staff turnover. And the name of this show’s game is accuracy. However, while that’s a great mission, losing cast members is still scary, and it turns out the actors are nervous about it, too.

That was proven when Us Weekly posted a graphic on Instagram that said “Noah Wyle Warns of More Future Cast Changes on The Pitt After Controversial Departures,” and Patrick Ball, who plays Dr. Langdon, commented:

Last year, fans were distraught when they learned that Tracy Ifeachor’s Dr. Collins would be leaving The Pitt. The same kind of outcry happened when it was announced that Mohan wouldn’t be in Season 3. Now, it seems pretty clear that this will happen again with every season. So, I get why Ball posted that nervous comment.

Honestly, I was curious about Langdon coming back after Season 1. After it was revealed that he had been taking drugs from the hospital, he went to rehab. Considering The Pitt’s season only covers one shift, I had wondered if Season 2 would take place while he was gone. I also wondered if he’d been fired. Either way, a choice like that would have meant Patrick Ball would have been out for a whole season. However, he returned for Season 2; in fact, the shift it follows was his first one back after rehab.

It can be assumed that Ball will be back for Season 3. At the moment, it’s been confirmed that Supriya Ganesh is leaving, and we’ve learned that Ayesha Harris, who plays Dr. Parker Ellis, has been promoted to a regular. No other cast changes have been announced yet. between Seasons 1 and 2, Ifeachor’s departure was the only major one as well. So, if that set a precedent, I don’t expect many other people to leave The Pitt between Seasons 2 and 3.

However, I do expect more changes between Seasons 3 and 4, assuming the show gets renewed. And that’s all because of the comments Wyle made that caused Ball’s reaction. Here’s what the Dr. Robby actor said at a PaleyFest screening, via Variety:

So, we do all need to brace for the fact that it’s very possible our favorite characters could leave. Sadly, it would all make sense, too. ERs have very high staff turnover, and for The Pitt, it also has to account for the fact that its hospital is a teaching hospital. So, yes, we might see a day where Langdon, Javadi, Santos, Whitaker, Mel or another beloved character leaves.

That’s concerning; however, it’s also just a reality of the show. So, yeah, I feel the nervous “gulp.” For now, as far as we know, Patrick Ball is still on the show, and so is the vast majority of The Pitt’s original cast. While many streaming shows have years between seasons, The Pitt is consistently putting a full 15-episode season every April. And as such, that means that the actors' availability may factor into which doctors and nurses actually appear when new seasons air. Per his comments, that was a factor for Supriya Ganesh.

Later in the same appearance, Noah Wyle went on to share another reason why we should expect cast of The Pitt to change with every season. In his words:

Points were made. In fact, Dr. Mohan's departure won't be the first time that the HBO series has had a major casting shakeup. Fans will recall that Tracy Ifeachor didn't return as Dr. Collins in Season 2, despite being a major character in the first season and having a personal connection to Dr. Robby. So on top of casting being related to the show's scheduling, a narrative precedent has already been set that the staff of the Emergency Department has a ton of turnaround.

Noah Wyle is the face of The Pitt, serving as a producer and writer as well as the show's star. He praise what Ganesh brought to the series in its first two seasons, offering:

With only one episode left of Season 2, it should be interesting to see how Dr. Mohan is written off. She's certainly had a difficult shift, including an anxiety attack and non-stop calls from her mother. Dr. Robby recently suggested she do her speciality in geriatrics, which may be her exit ramp.

The Pitt airs new episodes Thursdays as part of the 2026 TV schedule. Only time will tell how many more casting shakeups are on the way.

For the second year in a row, The Pitt is undoubtedly one of the best TV shows on HBO Max. Its realistic portrayal of an emergency room has set a new standard for medical dramas, and Noah Wyle and his ED crew have already been renewed for Season 3. With the Season 2 finale set to premiere next week on the 2026 TV schedule, it seems highly likely that The Pitt will once again receive many nominations from the Television Academy, and there is one fan-favorite Pitt actor who could make Emmy history.

The Pitt had a great run at the 2025 Emmys, with 13 nominations and five wins. After a 26-year nomination drought, Noah Wyle finally took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama for his role as Dr. Robby. Katherine LaNasa also won for her performance as charge nurse Dana Evans, and the show as a whole took home Outstanding Drama Series.

Additionally, Shawn Hatosy received his first Emmy win for Guest Actor in a Drama Series as Dr. Jack Abbot, specifically nominated for his performance in The Pitt’s Season 1 finale “9:00 PM”, in which Abbot finds Robby on the hospital roof in a moment of emotional crisis. Now, as nomination voting for the 2026 Emmys approaches, Variety reports the Ready or Not 2 actor is in a unique position to make Television Academy history if he wins again in the same category.

The outlet noted that repeat guest performer wins are extremely rare, and even rarer for the same show. Consecutive wins for guest roles have only happened a handful of times in the comedy category, including Jean Smart for Frasier, Mel Brooks for Mad About You, and Maya Rudolph for Saturday Night Live.

However, no one has ever won Guest Actor in a Drama for the same show in back-to-back years, setting Hatosy up for a historic win if he's nominated.

It might seem odd that Hatosy is up for guest actor with Abbot's seemingly increased visibility and impact this season. However, he only appears in six out of 15 episodes, including the upcoming finale that will be available with an HBO Max subscription on Thursday, May 16 at 9 p.m. ET. According to Emmy rules, to qualify for this award, an actor must appear in less than 50% of a given season’s episodes.

I would be absolutely shocked if the Southland actor is snubbed of a nomination this year. In my opinion, Abbot's unique position to understand Robby’s frustrations and trials makes him a shoo-in for the win once again. Time will tell, though, as nominations won’t come out until July 8, and the Emmys don’t take place until September 14.

Now, as much as I love this recognition for Hatosy in his guest spot on The Pitt, I’m ready to see him take on a bigger role. Many fans are hoping for a Pitt spinoff featuring the night shift. Due to emergency events in both seasons, audiences have gotten a taste of the night crew and are dying to see more. Characters such as Abbot and nurse Mateo have hinted at The Pitt's night shift being a whole different beast, potentially setting up a spinoff, and I’m ready to see Hatosy get an Outstanding Lead Actor nod for whenever HBO decides to make it a reality.

However, for now, I hope he makes history as a guest star.

Over the last three decades, Noah Wyle has been working consistently in TV, acting on shows like ER, The Librarians, Falling Skies, Leverage: Redemption and more. Now, he's continuing his Emmy-winning role as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch on Season 2 of The Pitt, which has been airing on the 2026 TV schedule. While he has done a handful of movies, he’s kept a steady television career, even though he originally turned his nose up at having a career on the small screen. Now, he's explained how he ended up on this TV-trajectory, and yes, it does involve ER.

Wyle has been blowing up lately thanks to his critically-acclaimed HBO Max series, which saw him stepping back into the medical drama genre years after ER ended. He even recently earned a well-deserved Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. So it’s surprising to know that when he was first starting out, he “had a little snobbery about doing TV,” as he recalled to Variety. And when it came to ER, he was initially on board for it until he realized it wasn’t a movie:

Not only is ER’s first episode two hours long, but it’s written and created by novelist Michael Crichton, who is behind Jurassic Park and Sphere, along with other bestsellers. So it makes sense that Wyle would think that ER was a movie rather than a show.

It is funny that Wyle thought ER wouldn’t last when it went on for 15 seasons, was essentially the blueprint for medical dramas, and was the longest-running primetime medical drama up until Grey’s Anatomy passed it. So it’s a good thing he ended up changing his tune, because it was definitely for the better:

While some TV actors opt to do movies instead, it seems like Wyle has certainly found his calling and loves working in this episodic medium. It can be tiring playing the same role and working with the same people for who knows how long, but that’s what Wyle loves about it. And it’s not like he’s always doing the same thing. Sure, he keeps playing the same role, but with television, you never know what to expect with storylines and cast changes. There’s a reason why Wyle was on ER for 254 episodes and why he’s still doing television after all these years.

Even though Season 2 of The Pitt is coming to an end for those with an HBO Max subscription on Thursday, Wyle’s TV career is not ending any time soon. The Emmy-winning drama has already been picked up for a third season, and some details have already been shared about what to expect. Filming has not yet started, but more information on when it will come out and when it will take place should be revealed in the coming months.

The Pitt is known and beloved for how realistic it is when it comes to how it portrays healthcare workers and the patients they see. The series also includes a range of neurodivergent characters, including an autistic woman named Becca, who is Dr. Mel King’s sister. I had the chance to chat with Tal Anderson, who plays Becca, about how autism and neurodiversity are represented on this Emmy-winning series, and she opened up to me about the importance of it.

The Pitt’s Becca Actress Told Me Why It’s So Important To Have A Range Of Neurodivergent Characters On The Show

During my conversation with Tal Anderson about her work on The Pitt, I noted that Taylor Dearden, who plays Becca’s sister Mel, has spoken about how her doctor is also neurodivergent. That led me to ask about the importance of having a range of neurodivergent characters on the series. In response, the actress told me:

Anderson, who is autistic, went on to tell me that this representation “means a lot” to her, and she’s had “many people” reach out to tell her the same thing.

She also noted that it’s Becca and Mel aren't the only characters on the spectrum; there was another autistic patient named Terrance in Season 1 (Episodes 5 through 7), who was played by Coby Bird. Through his story, as well as Becca’s, we’ve been able to see autistic men and women on the series, which is vital, as Anderson explained:

Along with showing neurodivergent men and women, Anderson noted the importance of highlighting these characters' independence. While Becca is “a person with very high support needs,” she’s also very “capable,” and The Pitt makes sure to show us that:

Overall, this representation is wonderful and helps viewers see people who range across the spectrum of autism and neurodivergence in nuanced and three-dimensional ways. Now, when it comes to Becca specifically, her story in the season that’s been airing on the 2026 TV schedule also highlights the importance of her standing up for her independence and autonomy.

The Pitt’s Tal Anderson Told Me Why Becca Standing Up For Her Independence And Relationship Is ‘Everything’ For A ‘Disabled Adult’

Now, if you’ve been watching Season 2 of The Pitt, you’ll know that Becca’s storyline this season is focused on her sister, who is also her caregiver, finding out that she’s in a relationship with a man named Adam. While it’s a tense storyline between the sisters, it has a powerful message about the importance of autonomy, as Anderson explained:

Speaking directly to Becca’s storyline, which involves her going to an assisted living facility while Mel works, Anderson told me that she loves how independent her character is. Explaining the importance of that and her boundaries, the actress said:

We really get to see Becca do just that, too, as she reveals her relationship with her boyfriend, Adam, to Mel during Season 2.

Now, Mel finds out about him in an unideal way when Becca comes to the ER and learns she has a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). At first, Mel thought her sister got it from holding her pee for too long, but Becca told her that she’s been having sex (which is another way you can get a UTI). And that’s how she learns about Adam.

During our chat about this storyline, I asked Anderson why her character didn’t tell her sister about her relationship until she had to. In response, she shared the complex reasoning behind Becca’s choice:

This brings it back around to the point Tal Anderson made about autonomy and independence. Becca wanted something for herself, and she’s very happy with Adam. She knew that when she told her sister about him, things would change. So, that’s why she kept it a secret.

Meanwhile, we see Mel's side of the story too, as she struggles to accept that her sister kept a big secret from her. All together, it presents a complex and meaningful story that highlights Becca and Mel's relationship as well as Becca's independence.

Overall, The Pitt has incorporated multiple storylines involving neurodivergent characters, and we see it highlighted specifically with Becca and Mel. Hopefully, that will continue when the show returns for Season 3, and hopefully, we’ll get to see more patients who are on the spectrum, too, so this representation can continue.

The second season of The Pitt is nearly over in the 2026 TV schedule, with the exhausted doctors and nurses of PTMC’s day shift more than ready to leave the 4th of July behind. Fans with an HBO Max subscription can at least count on a third season in the works for next year, and based on some clues from star/executive producer Noah Wyle, the story will take them far from the heat of Independence Day for the next 15-hour shift.

Noah Wyle spoke with Variety ahead of the penultimate episode of The Pitt Season 2, and while he didn’t drop any clues about a spinoff fans are hoping for or the upcoming departure of Supriya Ganesh, he did tease a change for Season 3 that fits exactly with what I’ve been imagining. He said:

Admittedly, one of my top hopes for Season 3 was actually that there would be a relatively small time jump so that we don’t have to deal with R4s worrying about their fellowships. After all, even though Mohan will be absent, if we assume that Langdon is sticking around, Ayesha Harris’ promotion to series regular status means that there will still be two senior residents in the ED.

Noah Wyle’s tease of a season set during a winter may mean that I get exactly what I want for the setting of Season 3, but thought was too much to hope for. The biggest weather-related issues of Season 2 have been heat exhaustion, the water slide collapse, and my 13-episode (and counting) confusion over Mel’s holiday deposition and Dr. McKay wearing a sweatshirt on the 4th of July. Why not have some winter weather crises next?

There are the obvious possible crises to come out of a snowstorm, like multi-vehicle crashes, unhoused people suffering from hypothermia, storms taking out the power, and even common seasonal ailments like cold and flu. I also love the idea of everybody being snowed into PTMC making for a quiet day… up until something goes horribly wrong and all hands have to go on a snowy, snowy deck. (That may already be an ER episode, or maybe I just have Noah Wyle's previous medical drama on the mind after Patrick Ball posed for a pic with an ER legend.)

That said, my ideal scenario is actually the ED (and all of Pittsburgh) being taken by surprise by a freak snowstorm in November, possibly around Thanksgiving. I don’t live in Pittsburgh, but the lake effect snow that I experience every year can affect Pennsylvania as far in as Pittsburgh, and I haven’t forgotten the foot of snow we got in Northeast Ohio over Thanksgiving weekend last year.

De-icing salt wasn’t totally ready, nobody had their winter clothes out yet, shovels were still in garages, window scrapers were buried in the bowels of car trunks. Boots were still shoved in the back of closets. Getting in or out of town by road or air wasn’t a sure thing.

A Pitt snowstorm on any date between mid-December and late February could have high stakes, but a freak snowstorm hitting close to a major holiday earlier than expected in the year? Perfect for a Pitt crisis, and I’ll take it as a personal win if they have to deal with lake effect snow, which can arrive with little warning.

And hey, if The Pitt releases in January as usual, fans everywhere could be watching the snowy season while snow is falling outdoors. Suffice it to say that I’m all-in on the idea of a wintery season of the hit medical drama, but what I want more than ever out of a cold weather season is a blizzard hitting way too early in the season.

Since Noah Wyle is the star of The Pitt, we do get to see an ER actor interact with the cast of HBO Max’s hit medical drama every week on the 2026 TV schedule. However, it’s not every day that we get to see other actors from ER meeting the folks who are currently playing doctors in an emergency department. However, we did get to see that happen today, though, as Patrick Ball, who plays Dr. Langdon on The Pitt, posted a photo of him meeting an icon from the NBC medical drama. And fittingly, fans of both shows are freaking out about this.

The Pitt’s Patrick Ball Met ER Legend, Anthony Edwards

ER ran for 15 seasons and over 300 episodes. While no actor appeared in every single one, Noah Wyle was in 254 of them. Meanwhile, Anthony Edwards played Dr. Greene in 182 episodes of medical drama. To this day, they’re both considered standout stars of the series. So, yes, it was a very big deal when The Pitt’s Patrick Ball posted this photo with Edwards on his Instagram Stories:

Talk about a fun crossover! I’d love to see the Top Gun actor appear on The Pitt. However, I’m well aware that’s a long shot, seeing as Wyle has said that having other ER co-stars on the HBO Max series would be “a little distracting.” So, I’ll take what I can get, and this photo is wonderful.

It would appear that this image was taken in a theater, which makes sense, seeing as Ball is currently performing on Broadway in the play Becky Shaw. It also would appear that the Langdon actor is thrilled about this interaction (and so are the fans).

Fans Are Freaking Out About Dr. Langdon Meeting Dr. Greene

Unlike the doctors in the ER, fans of both hospital-set shows did not stay calm about this. No, when Ball co-posted the same image with No Context The Pitt’s Instagram, the fans had a proper freak out. Here are some of the comments:

The two worlds are colliding, and it really is so much fun to see! Along with people being thrilled about Ball meeting Edwards, there was also a whole lot of love for the ER doctor, specifically. What can I say? People adore Dr. Greene. Take a look at these comments:

Considering how beloved Edwards was on ER and the tragic fate of his character, I have a feeling many fans would love to see him back in scrubs. So, maybe someday that dream can become a reality.

However, for the time being, I’ll be smiling about this photo. I’ll also be tuning in for the last two episodes of The Pitt as they drop weekly on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET for those with an HBO Max subscription. Then, maybe I’ll take this whole story as a sign to finally start binge-watching Anthony Edwards’ medical drama while we wait for Season 3 of Ball’s show.

Medical dramas have a special place in TV history, with a number of shows piercing the pop culture landscape over the years. The latest addition is the Emmy-winning hit The Pitt, which is streaming with a HBO Max subscription. We're currently deep into Season 2, and I feel like the show is quietly setting up a potential sequel for one character in particular. Let's break it all down.

Season 2 of The Pitt has shown another chaotic day at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's emergency room, with the staff dealing with Fourth of July injuries as well as a tech failure. In Episode 12 "6:00 P.M." the night shift team started arriving, and I feel like the show is setting up that being a potential spinoff for the fandom. Let's break it all down.

Is The Pitt Setting Up A Night Shift Spinoff?

A number of The Pitt stars have been absent from Season 2, but we got some more familiar faces thanks to the night shift's arrival. In Episode 12 we saw Jalen Thomas Brooks' Mateo Diaz show up to do just that, flirting with Shabana Azeez' Victoria Javadi in the process. He talks about turning her to the "dark side", and while she thinks he means the Emergency Department, he reveals he's actually talking about the night shift.

This quick interaction really stuck with me, and had me thinking that maybe The Pitt showrunner/creator R. Scott Gemmill was setting up another series. There's previously been some discourse about this possibility; Dr. Abbot actor Shawn Hatosy expressed interest in a night shift spinoff. Whether or not it's actually happening remains to be seen, but it does seem to be a logical way to expand the medical drama with a brand new series in the same universe. But if Javadi swapped shifts, she would presumably have more freedom from the shadow of her mother in the hospital.

Many of the night shift characters have already been introduced throughout the first two season of The Pitt, so the audience would likely be able to easily dive into a spinoff. In addition to Dr. Abbot and Nurse Mateo, we also know the night shift Charge Nurse Lena Handzo, who was seen throughout Season 2 as a death doula for cancer patient Roxie Hamler. I'd be fascinated to see what sort of craziness comes through the Emergency Department door overnight... even if we're missing beloved characters like Noah Wyle's Dr. Robby and Katherine LaNasa's Dana Evans.

Given how binge-able The Pitt is, I have to assume fans would lose their minds over a spinoff centering around the night shift. It could also help create a bonafide shared universe, with day shift characters popping up at a guest capacity during the beginning and end of the season. We'll just have to see if Dr. Javadi is actually convinced to swap shifts, allowing Shabana Azeez to appear in a potential spinoff. Fingers crossed because I can't get enough of The Pitt.

This week on the 2026 TV schedule has been a bittersweet one for fans of The Pitt. That’s because, hours before Episode 13 of Season 2 aired, a big cast shakeup was announced. Of course, I’m referring to the news that Supriya Ganesh, who plays Dr. Samira Mohan, will not be returning for Season 3 of The Pitt, while Ayesha Harris, who plays Dr. Parker Ellis, has been promoted to a series regular. Now, this is one piece of very sad news and a piece of really good news. However, it’s all love between the cast as Ganesh reacted to Harris’ post about Season 3.

As I said, this shakeup was jarring, seeing as we won’t see Mohan next season and Ellis will become a staple part of the day shift. I do have to say, as a night shift spinoff advocate, this news about Harris being upped to a regular made me very excited. She’s clearly thrilled too, as she took to Instagram to write:

Well, it sounds like Ellis will be pulling a double shift when The Pitt returns for its junior season! While she might need to take up Dr. Shen’s Dunkin’ habits to survive the hours, I’m so thrilled about this. Seriously, I love this doctor (as well as the other healthcare professionals on the night shift), and I’m stoked that we'll get to see how Ellis really vibes with the day shift next season.

Ganesh seems to be thrilled about her castmate’s update, too, as she commented:

They really are lucky to have Harris. However, it’s still a bummer that Ganesh is leaving at the same time. Last season, Tracy Ifeachor’s Dr. Collins left the ED much to fans' dismay. So, this has sadly become a regular occurrence for The Pitt.

However, that’s part of the point. This hospital is a teaching hospital, and staff turnover is supposed to be high. Therefore, the cast is bound to change from season to season. And yes, while it’s never fun when this happens, we have to accept that it’s going to.

Thankfully, there are still a couple of hours left in the shift. So, we haven’t seen the last of Mohan, and hopefully her arc will come to a fulfilling close by the end of Episode 15. Along with seeing her story come to a conclusion, hopefully, Ellis will get a bit more screentime as the day shift hands things over to the night shift.

Episode 13 saw the late-night crew come in, as Abbot, Ellis, Shen, nurse Mateo, and more officially clocked in. So, we should be seeing more of them as Robby and co. finish up their workday (and their mountains of paperwork).

For weeks now, when a new episode of The Pitt drops on the 2026 TV schedule, my nerves surrounding Robby skyrocket. With each passing week, I get more and more nervous about him living through this sabbatical he’s about to go on. Then, this week, his confrontation with Dana served as a breaking point that fully justified this anxiety. However, a scene from earlier in Season 2 also proves why this worry has been warranted for a long time now.

Robby And Dana’s Confrontation Ended On A Troubling Note

After the tension had been building for episodes, Robby and Dana finally exploded at each other. They discussed everything that is going on, and Noah Wyle’s character specifically brought up what he was nervous about leaving behind when he goes on his sabbatical. He also ended his thoughts with a concerning admission about returning to work. Here’s how that part of the conversation went:

• Robby: I also don’t know if Langdon is going to relapse. I don’t know if Whitaker is gonna be able to take care of my shit. I don’t know if Javadi’s gonna give up on what she’s good at, or if Samira is gonna flame out because of some bullshit with her mother.
• Dana: Is there anything else?
• Robby: Yeah, you. I don’t know about you running around with a full syringe of Versed in your pocket. I’m worried about the people that I care about.
• Dana: We’ll all manage until you come back. We always do.
• Robby: Yeah, what if I don’t come back?

Then, he walks away, and the episode ends. And on that note, if you weren’t thinking Robby was having suicidal thoughts, the writing is pretty clear on the wall now. However, I’ve been wondering about this for a long time because of a conversation he had with Whitaker a few episodes ago.

The Scene From Earlier In Season 2 That Made Me Worry About Robby

While Dana and Robby’s fight was troubling, my anxiety for him started when he gave Whitaker his doctor's badge, asked him about his relationship with Amy, a former patient, and then asked him to house sit during Episode 9.

It wasn’t necessarily an odd request. I mean, Noah Wyle’s character is going on a big motorcycle trip and taking months off work. It’s normal to need a house sitter in that scenario. However, it’s the comment he made after he asked his colleague to do this that made me nervous. Here's what Wyle's character said:

For the most part, this offer came off as Robby’s weird way of getting Whitaker to realize that his relationship with a former patient might not be a great thing. However, his final words left me considerably more concerned for Noah Wyle’s character.

I thought I was overthinking it, though. Turns out, I wasn’t because Gerran Howell, who plays Whitaker, recently reacted to that scene for HBO Max and said:

Well, I’m glad I’m not the only one who was apprehensive about Robby’s offer. And after what he said to Dana, I think we all need to be deeply concerned that Noah Wyle’s character might be suicidal.

I mean, between him riding to work on his motorcycle without a helmet and some other things he’s said, I’m nervous he doesn’t see himself returning to Pittsburgh. In fact, I don’t think he thinks he’ll live through this trip.

It’s clear this season that Robby is not doing well. He needs a break, yes; however, I’m also worried that he might be thinking about suicide. I mean, Season 1 did end with him on the roof. He’s clearly not OK, and he's not doing much about it. Now, as we get into the final hours of the shift, it seems like his co-workers are clocking that too.

Now, the question is: How will they help make sure he’s safe and returns to work after his sabbatical? Well, they have two more hours in their day to figure it out as we continue to watch The Pitt on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max.

Medical dramas are a tried and true genre in the TV world, and we recently got a great new addition with The Pitt. The Emmy-winning series (which is streaming with a HBO Max subscription) is currently in the midst of Season 2, showing another insane shift in the Emergency Department of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. I absolutely love the Noah Wyle-led series, but it's making watching current Grey's Anatomy feel almost impossible. Hear me out.

Shortly after its premiere, The Pitt joined the ranks of HBO shows that got the world talking. This largely thanks to Wyle's return to the genre, its real-time format, and its gory medical procedures. I'm a longtime Grey's Anatomy fan who still watches the show's new episodes on ABC (and streaming with a Hulu subscription), but seeing how great the HBO show is makes enjoying Season 22 of Grey's even more difficult.

The Pitt Is Incredible And Makes Me Think Of The Golden Age Of Grey's

I've been watching Ellen Pompeo's show since early in its run, and regularly rewatch classic Grey's to experience the series at its pinnacle. The more recent seasons have been a bit of a slog to watch, but I'm not someone who really quits TV shows... especially ones like this that mean so much to me. But The Pitt's quality is so far beyond the current state of Grey's Anatomy that it's making it hard to even sit through.

To start, the gore that's shown in The Pitt has really highlighted how easy we've had it throughout the 22 season of Grey's (so far). And after watching the HBO show, it's difficult to feel the same thrill and scares from the medical procedures at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Then there's the actual storyline of The Pitt, which in many ways feels like the good old days of Grey's Anatomy. The show is filled with compelling medical cases, combined with the interpersonal drama of the Emergency Department staff. It's a reminder of how the ABC series used to be prestige television, and the way that its quality has unfortunately waned in the two decades it's been on the air.

When Season 1 of The Pitt was on, I urged Grey's Anatomy fans to check it out... especially when Perfect Penny actress Samantha Sloyan popped up as the mother of a young patient. Season 2 has been similarly incredible, but now it's actually giving me a sense of ennui about the days of Grey's past. I mean, think about how great we had it in the single-digit seasons!

Another reason the comparisons have been bumming me out is due to how few long-running Grey's Anatomy actors are still in the show. The news of Kevin McKidd and Kim Ravers' forthcoming departures only highlighted how the cast is mostly made up of the newbies, and I was kind of hoping that the show was coming to an end. Alas, it's been renewed for Season 23, so there's no indication that the beloved medical drama is going to wrap up anytime soon. As such, the comparisons between Grey's and The Pitt are likely going to continue for the foreseeable future.

Grey's Anatomy and The Pitt both air new episodes Thursdays as part of the 2026 TV schedule. We'll just have to wait and see how long these two shows end up staying on the air.

When it comes to workplace shows, audiences frequently have to suspend a touch of disbelief. Because audiences/productions want characters to stick around, there isn't always as much employment turnover as we see in real life, and nobody bats an eye at it. In the case of The Pitt, however, its dedication to realism has some consequences, and it would appear that fans should mentally prepare for each season of the show to feature some significant casting changes.

This particular observation is driven by the news that arrived today via Variety, which reports that actress Supriya Ganesh – known for playing Dr. Samira Mohan – will not be back in Season 3, and Ayesha Harris – a.k.a resident Dr. Parker Ellis, who works on the night shift – is getting a promotion to series regular for the next season's run. Sources say that the decision is purely driven by story decisions and the desire to reflect how personnel typically changes in a teaching hospital.

If you're presently experiencing a bit of deja vu, it's likely because you're recalling the news from last summer that Tracy Ifeachor's Dr. Collins was not going to be returning after The Pitt Season 1. Just as in this new case, the casting decision was driven by choices made for plot reasons.

As far as Dr. Samira Mohan's arc goes, one could argue that Season 2 has been working to set up her absence in Season 3, as she hasn't had the best go of it in recent episodes. While she established herself as a caring physician in Season 1 (albeit at the cost of seeing as many patients as possible), she has been dealing with a lot of stress in recent episodes due to personal issues concerning her mother. In the "4:00 P.M." episode, she had a panic attack that was briefly confused as a cardiac issue, and it earned her the ire of Noah Wyle's Dr. Robby, who tried to send her home.

Regarding Ayesha Harris, we've only seen Dr. Parker Ellis a few times in Season 2, but with the changeover to the night shift beginning, I'd expect to see a lot more of her. What plays out with her in future episodes may end up informing why she is going to have a more significant part to play in Season 3.

This casting change is definitely a surprise, especially because Dr. Mohan has such a significant role on the show, but I suppose we can look at this silver lining: while doctors sometimes leave hospitals, there always exists the possibility that they could one day return. So while we won't be seeing her in Season 3, the door isn't necessarily shut for Season 4 or beyond (assuming that the series runs that long).

The Pitt Season 2 is now moving into its final stretch, as "7:00 P.M." will be available to stream this evening with an HBO Max subscription, and it is the antepenultimate chapter, with "9:00 P.M." once again the finale hour. Back in the ‘90s, Noah Wyle came to fame as John Carter on NBC’s hit medical drama ER alongside top actors like Anthony Edwards and Julianna Margulies. Of course, it’s impossible to think about the early seasons of ER and not mention George Clooney, so now that Wyle is the star of another award-winning TV show set in a hospital — The Pitt — is there any chance of a reunion? Wyle’s response to the suggestion that Clooney would guest-star was absolutely savage.

The Pitt is nearing the end of its second season on the 2026 TV schedule (streaming with HBO Max subscription), and if you’ve been following along with this season, it comes as no surprise why actors want in on the action. Noah Wyle spoke to Greatest Hits Radio, where the host brought up his former ER co-star, saying that when asked if he’d guest star on The Pitt, George Clooney replied, “In a heartbeat.” Noah Wyle had a blunt response of his own, saying:

Unless Noah Wyle was suggesting George Clooney would come into the ER as a fatally injured character, he was quick to dismiss the idea that the Jay Kelly star would be interested in The Pitt. However, given how popular the show has been — with both critics and audiences — how would anyone pass up an opportunity?

The medical drama raked in the awards for its first season, winning Noah Wyle his first Emmy and Golden Globe Awards. The series also picked up Best Drama trophies at both ceremonies, as well as several others. Despite Wyle's curt response, the host asked him about George Clooney again, to which he said:

Noah Wyle and George Clooney have been friends for a long time — they even guest-starred on Friends together back in their ER days — so I doubt there’s any real bitterness from Wyle about not being cast in an Ocean’s movie (so far, at least; maybe Ocean's 14 will be different), but that's a pretty funny perspective.

The Pitt star previously joked that his ER castmates wouldn’t have cut it during the three-week boot camp his new scrappy ensemble endured to prepare for the HBO Max drama, but that hasn’t kept ER stars like Maura Tierney from expressing interest. However, Noah Wyle made a good point when saying that reuniting with ER co-stars or welcoming other big names might distract from the issues The Pitt is bringing awareness to.

It’s still hard to deny that it would be a treat to see George Clooney cheating his way through medical jargon again.

The weeks are counting down until the Season 2 finale of The Pitt in the 2026 TV schedule, and the stakes are getting higher as the doctors and nurses of the day shift get more and more run down. For new nurse Emma, she’s had a doozy of a first day on the job while shadowing Dana, with actress Laëtitia Hollard spending a lot of her screentime with Emmy-winner Katherine LaNasa. Unfortunately for Emma, the latest episode ended with a confused patient waking from sedation and immediately attacking her. The good news? Hollard herself had “sweet” memories from her time on set.

It felt inevitable that something bad was going to happen to one of the medical professionals after “Code Hula Hoop” was introduced, and Emma was the unlucky one at the end of Episode 11 (available streaming now with an HBO Max subscription). Curtis, who had been sedated earlier in the season, woke up when the new nurse was alone in his room with him. He wasted no time in dropping an aggressive F-bomb and pulling her into a headlock with nobody on hand to help her.

The promo for Episode 12 at least indicates that help will be on the way, but it remains to be seen how much she’ll go through before anybody can save her. On the plus side, Laëtitia Hollard evidently didn't have any traumatic times during her real-life experiences on Season 2. I spoke with the actress at SCAD TVfest in Atlanta shortly after I heard from her fellow nurse actors about their roles. Since The Pitt is her first major TV credit, I had to know: what was it like for her to join a show with such a fast pace and so much critical acclaim? She shared:

Hollard may not have come to The Pitt with a long list of credits (or even a notable background role like Taylor Dearden’s “Sad Faced Girl” on Breaking Bad), but a background in theater and some time at Juilliard certainly mean that she didn’t come to the medical drama totally green to performing. Considering that the last fans saw of Emma at this point in Season 2 was her being attacked by a patient, it's nice to know that the actress had a “really great experience” while surrounded by people who were “so sweet” to her. She went on:

In the time since I spoke with Laëtitia Hollard, Season 2 started generating even more buzz with another round of awards show wins to go along with the fun – and occasional frustration – of weekly episode releases. According to the actress, however, she’s also experiencing some touching real-life interactions that have nothing to do with Noah Wyle winning trophies. As for what’s next for Emma… well, at the very least, I’m guessing that Episode 12 will be a showcase for Hollard’s acting skills! Check out the promo below:

New episodes of The Pitt will continue releasing on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max, through to the Season 2 finale on April 16. The drama has already been renewed for Season 3, but since Emma was technically shadowing Dana in Season 2, there’s no guarantee that she will be back.

The Pitt took pop culture by storm when it arrived on HBO Max in 2025, cleaning up on the awards circuit and delivering a lot more to love beyond just Noah Wyle donning his scrubs again for the first time since ER. Nevertheless, despite the popularity, the awards, the word-of-mouth recommendations, and my very job in entertainment journalism, I didn’t get around to watching the medical drama until early in the 2026 TV schedule via my HBO Max subscription.

And once I did, I finally understood what everybody was talking about… but my binge-watch of Season 1 meant that it was a rude awakening to then have to start waiting weekly for new episodes of Season 2, even though I’m generally a bigger fan of the traditional release model than I am of binge-watching.

Fortunately, when I spoke with members of the cast at SCAD TVfest in Atlanta, they sold me on why The Pitt is a show that’s well-suited to a weekly release, even though that release schedule means I can’t watch half a dozen new episodes in one sitting. Brandon Mendez Homer, who plays Nurse Practitioner Donnie and opened up about the Season 2 episode that showcased the nurses at PTMC, shared his thoughts:

While the format of The Pitt with one hour of the workday leading directly into the next is actually a great fit for binge-watching, the show becoming such a smash hit did indeed turn it into a rare modern show that can result in water cooler moments. In fact, my only issue with binge-watching Season 1 this year was that I was too late to talk to everybody else about the mass casualty event and shocking reveal of Langdon’s addiction.

Amielynn Abellera, who plays Nurse Perlah, was also all-in on the water cooler moment comparison on the SCAD TVfest red carpet. She told me:

Yes, despite The Pitt’s status as a hit streaming show, fans don’t have to worry about HBO Max going years between seasons like what happened with Stranger Things on Netflix and what is happening with Apple TV+’s Pluribus. The Season 2 finale is coming up in April, but we can count on Season 3 early next year. And dang it, this time, I’ll be among those fans anxiously awaiting what happens next.

Amielynn Abellera also weighed in on how the weekly release model is akin to how TV shows were traditionally released on network television:

I can vouch that I’ve been taking full advantage of chatting with friends about the latest twists of The Pitt after I was forced to start waiting between episodes, and the weekly release really makes me feel like I’m watching ER again back in the day. (Not just because Noah Wyle is on board and Langdon’s drug arc is basically The Pitt’s version of Carter’s addiction story, adjusted for the 2020s.)

So, on the whole, I’m back on board with weekly releases for The Pitt, much like I am for some of my other favorite medical dramas on network television. The release format that I love on NBC, CBS, ABC, and Fox works well for the HBO Max series… even if transitioning from a binge-watch of Season 1 to having to wait in Season 2 was tough.

While we get 15 hours in The Pitt every year, there are eleven other hours in the day that we don’t get to see. However, there’s an easy fix to that, because there should be a spinoff that’s about the night shift. This concept has been floating among fans for a while now, and it’s come back up as Season 2 of The Pitt has been airing on the 2026 TV schedule. However, now, Shawn Hatosy, who plays the night shift’s attending Dr. Jack Abbot, has been asked to share his take on the idea.

In Season 2 of The Pitt (which you can stream with an HBO Max subscription), Dr. Jack Abbot and his night shift crew have been seen here and there. And despite having less screentime than the regular cast, fans adore Abbot, Shen, Ellis, and their crew, and they want to see more of them. Plus, the notion of following a night shift, which is bound to be very different from the day shift, feels irresistible. Fans have made it clear they’d be down for something like this, and now Hatosy has too, as he told Parade:

Think about it, if we got a night shift season of the Fourth of July, there would probably be a plethora of gnarly firework cases and various other unexpected and bloody traumas. It’d be a totally different set of patients from what Robby and co. face during the day, and I know I’d like to see that.

Along with it, it’d be a completely different cast. Abbot, Shen (and his Dunkin) and Ellis have become fan favorite characters alongside regulars like Robby, Whitaker, Mel and more. So, getting to spend a full shift with them would be wonderful. On top of that, as Hatosy pointed out, we’d get to see how different personalities mesh together and get through a work day in ways we haven’t seen on The Pitt:

Considering the critical acclaim surrounding The Pitt and the fact that Shawn Hatosy himself won a 2025 Emmy for playing Abbot, a spinoff doesn’t feel like it's impossible. In fact, it feels like it’d be easy considering they already have the set and a good portion of a cast alongside a crew who could work on it too. Plus, they could time the show to run whenever The Pitt is off, making it so the two shows film and come out at different times, so there isn't much or any overlap.

However, Shawn Hatosy was quick to note that he is not trying to get in the way of the flagship show with another program. As the saying goes, you don’t want too much of a good thing. So, I can see why he said:

I’m sure fans would love to see it too, I know I would. Think about it, The Pitt on Halloween during the night shift? That’d make for a great season! Or maybe we get a season where someone from the day staff has to cover for the first time during the graveyard shift, and we get to see a fish out of water situation. That'd be a great way to bridge the two shows. No matter what, I’m sure it’d be awesome, because the characters who work when it's dark out are already so beloved.

Well, now that Shawn Hatosy has voiced his approval of this idea, I’m even more stoked about it. So, maybe someday, we’ll get to spend 15 or so hours with the night shift crew. However, right now, we’re still clocked in during the day, and you can watch new episodes of The Pitt Season 2 every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.

Season 2 of The Pitt is nearing its end on the 2026 TV schedule, and these episodes have been pretty stressful and intense. The Fourth of July shift has seen a cyber attack, intense patients, depositions, emotional deaths, and much more. I imagine that filming these often technical and emotional scenes could take quite a few tries. However, out of all the scenes that could have taken 25 takes, I didn’t expect Noah Wyle’s co-star to call him out for this one.

Shawn Hatosy, who won an Emmy for his guest role as Dr. Jack Abbot for the first season of the medical drama, appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers to talk about the second season of The Pitt. At one point, the SNL alum brought up Hatosy’s viral shirtless scene from Episode 7, in which Abbot was trying to treat himself until Supriya Ganesh’s Dr. Samira Mohan offered to help him, further fueling the fans who ship them as a couple.

Meyers then brought up the second viral moment from that scene, where Wyle’s Dr. Robby walked past the room Abbot and Samira were in and saw her helping him. Robby does a hilarious double-take while walking past the door (which has been meme-ed like mad since the episode aired), and surprisingly, it took more than a few tries to get it perfect, according to Hatosy:

I'm theorizing that the reason for the many takes is because Wyle either couldn’t stop laughing or couldn’t get the right head tilt, and if those are the reasons, I can’t say I blame him. His scene is only a couple of seconds long, but it’s truly one of the funniest things to come out of The Pitt Season 2.

In context, that doesn’t seem like a lot because this season has been pretty bloody, but the series can definitely be a comedy at times when it really wants to.

It is impressive that, out of all the scenes Wyle could have done multiple takes on, it was the one walking past an open door. Of course, he isn’t a stranger to the medical genre with his almost 15 years of experience on ER, so it’s not surprising that he’s able to do medical jargon with no problem. It just seems to be the comedic timing that he needs a few extra takes for. And now I am dying to see the outtakes and wish that HBO Max would release the blooper reel.

Whether or not the blooper reel will ever drop is unknown, but since there are only a few episodes left of Season 2, perhaps HBO Max will give viewers a little surprise. If anything, since that moment went so viral, hopefully, there will be plenty more like it in the third season of The Pitt before things get too chaotic in the emergency department.

Now, I’m not a Langdon and Mel shipper; in fact, I despise the idea of them being anything more than friends. However, I am of the opinion that Patrick Ball’s character is no longer with his wife. This season, Langdon returned to work after it was revealed that he had an addiction and was stealing drugs from the hospital. Clearly, this issue is impacting his relationships at work. However, after watching the first ten episodes of Season 2, I think it’s impacting his relationships at home, too, and specifically his marriage.

Langdon Puts His Ring On After He Gets To Work At The Start Of Season 2

Isn’t it odd that in the Season 2 premiere of The Pitt, Langdon returns to work without his ring on? As you can see in the image above, he unlocks his locker with his left hand, which, notably, is missing his gold band on his ring finger. Then, in the second scene where he’s back in his scrubs, guess what’s back on his left ring finger? A gold band. Take a look:

And you know, maybe it’s a continuity error, or maybe I’m reading too far into it. However, his hand is front and center in the frame as he unlocks his locker, and it’s very obvious that his ring is missing. So, why would he put it on to go to work? The answer, I think, is he’s pretending like he’s still married, and he does not want people to know that he's no longer with his wife.

Also, to add more fuel to this theory in relation to his ring and locker (and I know this is in the weeds), in Season 1, Episode 10, when Robby makes Langdon open his locker, he unlocks it with his right hand:

While he may be ambidextrous and I'm probably wearing a tin foil hat right now, I do find it notable that he unlocked his locker with his right hand in Season 1. That, compounded with how centered his locker shot is in Season 2’s premiere, makes me think that they wanted us to notice his ringless hand and the fact that he put it on after he got to work.

In Episode 10, Langdon Gets Weird When Dana Mentions His Wife

Now, on to our second piece of evidence, which was pointed out by mediumtallrat18 on TikTok. During the Episode 10 scene in question, Dana gives Langdon “intel on Louis,” who died a few episodes ago, and explains that the county is coming to pick up his body. Langdon wants to honor Louis somehow, and the rest of the conversation goes as follows:

• Langdon: Can I get the county coroner’s number?
• Dana: What for?
• Langdon: I just want to make sure if no family shows up, Louis gets a proper burial.
• Dana: That’s expensive. You may want to run it by the missus first.
• Langdon: Uhhh, maybe I’ll start a GoFundMe. I bet people around here would pitch in.

So, two things about that stand out. First of all, Langdon totally avoided Dana’s comment about asking his wife about this. Secondly, as he said that, he rubbed his face with his left hand, putting his loose ring on full display. And as the fan who said “Langdon is divorced” explained, the focus on his ring mixed with the avoidant comment to the nurse low key implies that “that marriage is over!”

All around, the state of Langdon’s marriage is murky at best, which makes sense; they’ve been through a lot as he's worked on healing and living with addiction after being caught in Season 1. However, I think it's worse than that. I think he and his wife are fully broken up and maybe divorced. Now, the question is: Will that ever be confirmed? We have five more hours in our shift to find out.

The second season of The Pitt is picking steam as the day shift gets later into the afternoon, and that's been especially tough for Mel. Taylor Dearden's character has been dreading her deposition all season, and it finally arrived this week. In Episode 9, directed by cast member Shawn Hatosy, Mel's sister also arrived at PTMC just minutes before she'd have to go upstairs for the legal proceeding. Mel may be in that deposition for a while, and watching her stress level rising really made me see why the actress said things can get "all mushy" on set.

I spoke with Taylor Dearden at SCAD TVfest in Atlanta about her role on The Simpsons and starting her career with a credit as "Sad Faced Girl" on Breaking Bad. With an episode directed by Shawn Hatosy in Season 2, I also asked the actress about being directed by a co-star. Dearden started out by sharing something that I think fans will be able to relate to:

As somebody who binge-watched the first season of The Pitt, I can definitely understand the idea of episodes getting mushed together while working on an entire season. With each hour of the show set in the same exact day and no wardrobe changes for the actors, why wouldn't everything blend together? In fact, for Mel, part of her stress level in Episode 9 seemed to be that everything was happening all at once.

That's not to say that Dearden had nothing to say about Shawn Hatosy directing in Season 2, with his episode following shortly after Noah Wyle directed the episode that focused on the nurses. She went on to share the perks of "having the actors" on board as directors:

It would be hard to find any director with more experience on medical dramas than Noah Wyle, who was credited with more than 250 episodes of ER between 1994-2009. Shawn Hatosy also has plenty of experience on intense shows, as a regular on Southland and Animal Kingdom before recurring on Chicago P.D. and Fire Country. Apparently, both of Taylor Dearden's co-stars bring a great touch as actors to directing The Pitt.

Mel wasn't actually in Episode 9 beyond the first fifteen minutes or so, after she had to go from just worrying about her deposition to also worrying about her sister. Based on all of my fictional medical expertise from watching doctors on TV, Becca's symptoms seem to point towards a simple UTI, and Dr. Langdon didn't seem too worried after stepping up to treat Mel's sister.

But Mel didn't actually get to learn that before having to leave her sister to Langdon's care, so it should be interesting to see how she's doing once she's back in the ED. For all she knew heading into her deposition, Becca's belly pain is much more serious than a UTI. Hopefully we'll see her full reaction in Episode 10, both because I'd hate to miss Mel for a whole extra week and because Mel is stressed enough without a deposition lasting for more than an hour.

See how she's handling all the deposition pressure on top of Becca being admitted to the hospital with new episodes of The Pitt on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max. I can imagine that knowing Dr. Langdon is the one treating Becca might help Mel's nerves at least a little bit. She doesn't have the trust issues with him that Robby does, and he clearly won her over as Becca's doctor as soon as he asked Mel to turn off the lights on the way out.

HBO Max wasted no time in bringing The Pitt back for Season 2 early in the 2026 TV schedule, but the medical drama is still picking up awards wins from the first season last year. After taking trophies at the Emmys, Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and TCAs, the whole cast was on hand for a couple of big wins at the 2026 Actor Awards. The latest round of victories reminded me of comments from cast member Brandon Mendez Homer, a.k.a. the fan-favorite nurse practitioner Donnie, about the "fairy tale" of The Pitt immediately becoming such a smash hit among viewers with an HBO Max subscription.

The Pitt won in two categories at the 32nd Actor Awards (formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards) to start out March, with Noah Wyle beating Sterling K. Brown (Hulu's Paradise), Billy Crudup (Apple TV+'s The Morning Show), Walton Goggins (HBO's The White Lotus), and Gary Oldman (Apple TV+'s Slow Horses) for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. Then, the whole cast won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, beating the casts from Netflix's The Diplomat, Paramount+'s Landman, Apple TV+'s Severance, and HBO's The White Lotus.

Suffice it to say that The Pitt had a pretty big night! I'd spoken with Brandon Mendez Homer ahead of the Actor Awards at SCAD TVfest in Atlanta. In addition to opening up about getting "blisters from practicing" for the Noah Wyle-directed episode of Season 2, he also told me about his reaction to the medical drama getting so much awards love for the first season:

As Homer noted, The Pitt came along not too long after the WGA writers strike and SAG-AFTRA actors strike, which was quite an uncertain time for the entertainment industry. HBO Max didn't wait too long before renewing the show for Season 2, and it quickly became clear that fans weren't just tuning in for the novelty of Noah Wyle playing an emergency room doctor again more than a decade after ER.

Over the course of the year since the premiere, The Pitt started out on the awards circuit by winning Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Drama, Outstanding New Program, and Individual Achievement in Drama (Noah Wyle) at the TCAs. Next up were the 2025 Emmy Awards, where the show won Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor (Wyle), Outstanding Supporting Actress (Katherine LaNasa), and Outstanding Guest Actor (Shawn Hatosy).

Brandon Mendez Homer shouted out the moment at the Emmys when he knew The Pitt had a shot at winning in the top categories:

If the Emmys wins in 2025 weren't enough, the show started 2026 strong at the Critics Choice Awards, where The Pitt won Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series (Wyle), and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (LaNasa). Next up were the 2026 Golden Globes, with The Pitt earning Best Performance by a Male Actor (Wyle) and Best Television Drama.

It's too early in Season 2 for awards buzz to start circulating again, but the doctors and nurses are already under plenty of stress to require strong performers from the cast. Brandon Mendez Homer has had more drama and more comedy to deliver this season, with Donnie passing his nurse practitioner test to take on more responsibility in the ED... and also building a buddy comedy bromance with Langdon between the usual bloody crises at PTMC.

The preview for the next new episode indicates a showcase for Taylor Dearden, who opened up about how far she's come since playing "Sad Faced Girl" as her first credit. Take a look:

Well, with Season 2 set on the 4th of July, part of me is surprised that it's taken this long for a firecracker injury! New episodes of The Pitt will continue releasing on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max, where you can also stream the full first season and every installment of Season 2 so far.

The Pitt quickly became a smash hit for HBO Max in 2025, with the first season bringing Noah Wyle back to the world of fast-paced medical drama. That's not to say that the ER vet is the only factor in winning viewers over to streaming with an HBO Max subscription, and Taylor Dearden's Dr. Mel King has officially reached fan favorite status by this point in the 2026 TV schedule. The actress spoke with CinemaBlend about playing Mel in Season 2, as well as how far she's come since her very first credit as "Sad Faced Girl" on Breaking Bad in 2010.

Before the cast of The Pitt took the stage for the Impact Award at the 2026 SCAD TVfest in Atlanta, they opened up about everything from Noah Wyle as a director to Taylor Dearden's role in the 800th episode of The Simpsons. After I checked out Dearden's IMDb page, I had to ask the actress: how does it feel for her to have started on TV as more or less an extra on Breaking Bad to now playing a popular and quite layered doctor on The Pitt? She looked back to her early career and shared:

It certainly doesn't say anything bad about Taylor Dearden that her early acting work included student films and her first TV credit was as a character merely listed as "Sad Faced Girl." If anything, it's practically a rite of passage for actors to start small, and there are whole lists of Law & Order guest stars and even The X-Files guest stars who had bit roles there before making it big later on. (Fun fact: Dearden's dad, Bryan Cranston, was one of those X-Files vets to later become a big star with Malcolm in the Middle and Breaking Bad.)

It's only natural that before she became Dr. Mel King on The Pitt, Dearden would start out with a role like Sad Faced Girl, seen above. (You can find her briefly in the Season 3 premiere of Breaking Bad streaming with a Netflix subscription.) The actress went on:

It only took a few more years after Sad Faced Girl on Breaking Bad for Dearden to start landing recurring roles on projects like 101 Ways to Get Rejected, Sweet/Vicious, American Vandal, and For All Mankind, but it's safe to say that The Pitt has been her biggest break to date. (And not just because it landed her a role on The Simpsons!)

Of course, Mel isn't having the best time in Season 2, with the added stress of a deposition looming over her on top of the usual pressure in PTMC's ED. In fact, in the preview for the next episode, Mel can be spotted saying that she didn't think her day could get any worse. Take a look:

Considering that the season is only halfway through, I think Mel's day is probably still going to get much more complicated as the weeks pass! If Season 2 has a major crisis planned for the later episodes like Season 1's mass casualty event, the characters are undoubtedly in for a difficult ride. For Mel, she might not catch many breaks in the rest of her shift as long as that deposition remains on her schedule.

The Pitt is halfway through its sophomore season in the 2026 TV schedule, and the latest episode raised the stakes the highest they've been since the Season 1 PittFest disaster with the ED going analog. There's still plenty of time for things to get much worse for Dr. Robby and Co., but the department could soon get out of control with the computers down and a packed waiting room.

That said, I'm still thinking about the conversation between Robby and Dr. Langdon that was a long time coming, with Robby making a fair point in a painful way... and it's a way that I'm hoping The Pitt kinda sorta just overlooks by the end of Season 2 and instead follows the ER example with Noah Wyle's John Carter from back in the day.

Robby And Langdon Finally Talk

It may have taken about six and a half episodes, but Langdon finally more or less cornered Robby into hearing him out after the attending had taken every opportunity to avoid him up to that point. When they were alone on the roof, waiting on a medevac and barely able to heart each other, Langdon seized his moment. Shouting over the sound of the helicopter, he said:

No matter who you sympathize with the most this season, I hope we can all agree that Langdon chose his moment will after how Robby was reacting to his return. Not only was there nowhere for Robby to run off to, but this was a way that they could talk it out without actually having to look each other in the eye. Healthy? Maybe not, but Robby wasn't leaving Langdon with a lot of options, and he actually had a surprisingly measured response. He told the resident:

Ouch! Honestly, that barb might have hurt Langdon less if his former mentor hadn't started out by commending him for getting help. I've actually been on Team Langdon in this conflict, just because Robby 1) is the ED Chief who should be setting a professional example in the workplace and 2) has had ten months to prepare. He doesn't have to like Langdon to work with him.

In this case, though, Robby was expressing his personal feelings about the resident's return, and that's fair. Langdon's even the one who brought it up. Feeling uncertain about having him around after what went down last season? Totally justified. Langdon crossed legal and moral lines in Season 1, so of course Robby didn't jump for joy in bringing him back.

Now, actively punishing Langdon in the ED, avoiding him all day, and then deliberately poking at his confidence during a trauma? Totally inappropriate from the Chief Attending in the workplace.

But as much as I hate to admit it, Robby is probably right that coming back to the ED where Langdon had been abusing his access to patients' drugs is probably a bad idea on paper. The Pitt has been praised for being realistic from the jump, and the realistic outcome seems like it would be for Langdon to leave PTMC after the end of this shift, with Patrick Ball exiting the cast.

But I didn't grow up on medical dramas like ER and Grey's Anatomy to need all of my hospital-set TV shows to be 100% realistic! Langdon's entire storyline has been so similar to Noah Wyle's on ER that I can't help but compare them and recall how Carter was able to come back.

It's Time For The Pitt To Go Full ER

Before anything else, I'll come out and say that ER is such a classic medical drama that I've never blamed other shows for copying its story beats, like when Chicago Med gave Nick Gelfhuss the same happy ending that Carol got with Doug, when The Resident sent a doctor to rehab a la Carter in Season 6, or even when The Good Doctor delivered a cliffhanger that was almost beat-for-beat the same as when Carter and Lucy were stabbed.

That said, with Noah Wyle as the leading man of The Pitt, Langdon's struggle with drugs while practicing medicine in a hectic emergency room feels really, really similar to John Carter on ER. Sure, Carter's mentor's intervention involved physically getting him to rehab while Robby furiously threw Landgon out, but Langdon definitely feels like the spiritual successor to Carter.

And if Carter could come back to Country General in Chicago despite crossing major lines on the job, then I'm ready to suspend my disbelief about any twist that allows Langdon to come back for Season 3 and beyond. Even if he's not always particularly likable, he's an interesting character who mixes things up in some engaging ways. Dr. Santos' arc in Season 1 wouldn't have been nearly as strong without her persevering in getting Langdon away from patients while using.

Plus, on a lighter note, some of the best humor of Season 2 has come from him and Donnie, and I'm on board to keep any character who's actually nice and considerate to Mel as she's facing her (somewhat confusing) deposition. For better or worse, storylines including him can be pretty juicy, and The Pitt wouldn't be a compelling drama if everything just went well all the time between the coworkers.

There is the question of what Santos will do. She's one of the few people who knows that Langdon was actually stealing drugs, and she had every reason to report him and at least get his license taken away for the theft. I generally enjoy Langdon more than Santos, but no part of me would blame her if she decided to out him for what he did.

Could The Pitt Be Realistic And Keep Langdon?

I won't claim to be an expert in hospital procedure or medical licensure, but I do think that there is one factor that could keep the truth from coming out and ending Langdon's career. Ten months have passed since Langdon left PTMC to go to rehab, which means Robby had ten months to report his former mentee to the medical board himself.

Even if nobody knows how close he came to flushing the pills that incriminated Langdon last season, records would show that Robby let Langdon come back to treat the PittFest victims after learning that Langdon was using. Whether or not she knows about his off-the-books terms for Langdon to come back, I'm not sure Santos could report his theft without Robby being incriminated as well, and there's no way The Pitt is cutting star/executive producer/writer/director Noah Wyle.

If outing Langdon for what he did would take Robby with him, then Langdon's not getting outed... right? Admittedly, that's a bit of a reach from me, and I'm ready to be Team Santos with whatever she decides after the position she was put in. But dang it, can't The Pitt go full ER and just craft the story in a way that doesn't end with Langdon being forced out? Consequences for the character without Patrick Ball being cut from the cast?

Of course, there's still half the season left to go, so it's entirely possible that the rest of Season 2 will change my tune about wanting Langdon to stay. At this point, though, he's too interesting of a variable (and a friend to poor Mel) for me to want him gone. We can all find out what's next with new episodes on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max. As for ER, you can find it streaming with a Hulu subscription and via HBO Max.

This goes without saying, but The Pitt is one of the best shows on TV right now. Whenever a new episode drops on the 2026 TV schedule, I make sure to watch it as soon as possible. Though multiple storylines have my attention in the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning series’ second season, there’s one that’s hitting home for me: the frayed friendship shared by Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch and Dr. Frank Langdon following the big reveal about the latter’s drug addiction last year.

As someone who has been impacted by drug addiction (a friend’s, not my own), this ongoing struggle between the one-time close friends is striking a chord and forcing me to take a look back at what happened all those years ago and how I wish I had handled things differently. I just hope that Robby doesn’t make the same mistake I did.

I Haven’t Seen A Show Handle The Impact Of Drug Addiction Like This In A Very Long Time

If you take a look at some of the best TV shows of all time, it won’t take long before you come across an episode (or full-season arc) dealing with drug addiction. Hell, some of the all-time great HBO series spent countless hours diving into nearly every aspect of substance abuse. However, it’s been a very long time since I’ve watched a series that captures the impact of addiction as honestly as The Pitt.

From Langdon stealing pills from patients to getting caught and then having his big blowup with Robby in Season 1 to Robby’s unwillingness to forgive and forget his old pal in the early goings of Season 2, all sides are being covered, really, really well. Watching the show is forcing me to reconcile with the time I let my pain, emotion, and stubbornness get between a dear friend and me.

But The Robby/Langdon Dynamic Is Making Me Wish I Had Handled This One Friendship Better

Back in 2002, during the first days of my freshman year, I met someone who would become one of my best friends throughout high school and college. We were inseparable, almost got kicked out of school together, were in multiple punk bands over the years, and were more brothers than friends. That all came crashing down nearly a decade later when I finally had enough of my friend’s addiction, lies, theft, and the trauma it all caused.

After a couple of years of not speaking to one another, I bumped into this friend one day, and he said he wanted to make amends as part of a multi-step program. I, being the stubborn, self-centered, and still bitter person I was in my early 20s, told him, “I’ll never let you take my name off that list.” I regretted those words pretty much as soon as they left my mouth, and they still haunt me 15 years later.

Watching Robby and Langdon go through a similar situation on The Pitt is forcing me to think about that episode in my own life and how I wish I had done things differently. Maybe I could have salvaged a friendship. I hope these two don’t make the same mistake.
